Quickie #26: Thrift Stores

You can look in thrift stores for old objects that seem powerful, sometimes they have candles too! Not only is it environmentally friendly compared to buying all new stuff, but you can also utilize the old magic to make something new and possibly connect with something new! Recycling is very good, it’s a nice way of giving back to nature!

A couple things to keep in mind:

Absolutely keep in mind the auras/general vibes of each item you want to get and take home

Cleanse things when you get home, even if you like the aura; just keep in mind you want to keep that part as you’re cleansing and your intentions should be set properly

There is magic in moments.

We can spend a lot of time and energy preparing for a complicated ritual on an Instagram-witch-perfect altar with all manner of herbs, stones, candles, and other assorted items. We can write long, rhyming spells to raise the energy we want to shift.

But, I find there is strong magic in moments that come to us. You know that moment when you first sense Autumn? When around 6pm one evening, the air suddenly shifts to cooler, crisper, sweeter? You find yourself taking a deep cleansing breath as your entire body takes one small step toward the next season. Or, one morning in the early part of the year, you feel the top of your head warming from the sun, and you just know you’re going to see a robin in the next few moments.

Seasons rarely announce themselves as lions. They are more kittens tiptoeing in on wee toe beans. But, if we’ve shifted and softened our gaze, we can see and feel these moments when they occur. And the magic we can make in those moments, to me, is some of the most powerful of all. Because, in those moments, you are attuned to the energy around you. You are one with it. You are magic.

In spite of living where we don’t really have seasons, or maybe because of it, I am keenly aware of such a shift. And, my heart is especially thrilled when Autumn peeks out from behind the late summer sun. My soul dances with excitement at this turning of the wheel, because I know what is coming. Shadow work, Ancestor work, and more of the great unbecoming. So much personal magic happens in the Fall, and my soul knows when it’s beginning again. This year is no different, and my soul has already begun my Autumn dance with Spirit.
