Thanks! My request, please, for Jack is with shy, new to hockey reader, maybe with him getting busted for spoiling her in ways she didn't know (I love every single dynamic you write). After the first game she attends Jack has to brush off Nico's comments that he got her a front row seat, claiming it's just because it was her first hockey game. Especially Luke teasing because Jack just so happened to give her his jersey from his best game, and the skates Jack got her are coincidentally top of the line. All the while he's trying to not seem to desperate to go all in with her bashful self. This is so bad tweak or ignore all of this please and thank you.

Everyone had noticed it, yet it was none other than Ellen Hughes who pointed it out.

It was a somewhat surprise to the people in Jack’s life when he told them he had a girlfriend. Like a proper, ‘she’s the one for me’ kind of girlfriend. Ever since he had been drafted, Jack had been hesitant to dive into anything serious, anything beyond a fling or a situationship. 

He was the new face of the franchise. He had the weight of everyone’s expectations on his shoulders. He had to prove that he wasn’t just some pretty boy who was decently good at hockey. He had to prove he deserved to be in the NHL, that he deserved to be first pick of the draft.

And at his age, a serious relationship wasn’t exactly high on his priority list.

Until he met you. 

The boys had noticed a shift in his behaviour in the early stages of Jack’s relationship with you. The way he would be quick to check his phone after games and practices. The way he seemed quick to shrug off any advances in bars, more than happy to nurse a few drinks and giggle away to whoever he was texting before he disappeared early into the night. The way he just seemed…happier.

Luke was the first to notice something really odd.

“Yeah, my job means I travel around a lot,” he overheard Jack one day, when the boy hadn’t realised Luke had returned early from the option skate. “They are, uh, like road trips, I guess? We are heading down to Dallas tomorrow.” 

And then Dawson heard something weird after a game.

“You don’t have to watch,” Jack reassured the person on the other side of the phone, a giddy smile on his face and a blush on his cheeks. “It can get quite long. It doesn’t last twenty minutes, just twenty minutes of actual playing time. It pauses when calls need to be made.”

And then it was Nico.

“No, not a suite seat. I need it beside the glass,” he overheard Jack asking one of the workers at the front office. “Preferably behind the bench. For the next home game.” 

It was easy to piece together that Jack was seeing someone. It was clear that she didn’t have much knowledge on the hockey world or how the sport itself worked. And it was clear that Jack seemed eager to teach you, splurging on you in any way he could without you really catching on.

But that plan quickly failed when you finally met Ellen Hughes. 

It was coming up to almost a year together when Jack asked you to come to the family skate. It wasn’t the first time you would be meeting his parents, but it would be the first hockey event you showed up to outside of the games. It was the first time you would really be setting foot on the ice yourself.

“Are those your own skates?” 

You lifted your head, finding Ellen standing a few feet away with a kind smile on her face. She was already laced up and ready to get on the ice, wrapped up warmly in a similar fashion to yourself. After all, she was the one to give you tips after Jack was unhelpful with his ‘I don’t know, my jersey is pretty warm’ response.

“Yeah, Jack got them for me!” You answered, unable to bite back your smile as you glanced down at your unlaced skates. “He said they were a good starter pair, nice to have a pair of my own so he could drag me out on the ice more.”

“A starter pair?” Ellen questioned, something quite like amusement in her voice.

“What? Are they not?” You asked, a hint of hesitation lacing your words as you glanced down at the skates with doubtful eyes. 

“I mean, they are hell of a pair to start with,” Ellen said with a gentle laugh. “Recognise the brand?” 

You glanced back at the older woman, shaking your head. 

“They are skates for professional skaters, quite a renowned brand too,” Ellen told you, still seeming like there was an underlying joke you weren’t understanding.

Your brows furrowed together. “Oh god, are they…expensive?”

Ellen simply smiled in response.

“Oh my god,��� you breathed out, staring down at the skates with a conflicted expression. 

“I think I’ll let my son explain everything,” Ellen said before she wandered off, the silence quickly being replaced by Jack who approached with a huge smile on his face.

“Need help?” He asked, but never gave you a chance to answer as he kneeled in front of you, already reaching for the laces of your skates to begin tying them.

You watched him closely. “Jack?”

“Hm?” 

“How much did these skates cost?” 

The boy froze, his fingers pausing for a few moments too long before muscle memory began to take over. 

“Uh, I don’t remember,” Jack eventually blurted out, making a point of keeping his eyes on your skates. The swift movements were quickly slowed down, like he was purposefully dragging it out so he wouldn’t have to look up. 

“Jack,” you scolded, though your voice was softer than he expected. “You have to let me pay you back.”

His head snapped up. “Baby, no—”

“You can’t just spend insane amounts of money like that on me!” You argued before he had the chance. “Especially on skates I’ll hardly be using!”

“But we could make you use them more?” Jack bargained with a bashful smile.

You shot him a look.

“Baby,” he sighed as he placed his hands on your knees, squeezing them softly. “I want to splurge on you sometimes. I just wanna show you I care, you know? And I wanna share my love for hockey with you. Help you love it just as much as I do.”

“You don’t need to spend stupid money to make me love it,” you retorted, but you melted at his admission as you placed your hands over his. “No more big purchases without telling me, okay?”

He sighed deeply before nodding. “Okay. Promise.”

“Good,” you smiled as you leaned down to quickly peck his lips whilst you had the chance with no cameras on you. “Now, c’mon. Teach me how to actually use these skates and make them worth your money.”

Jack snorted. “I’ve got you, baby.”

“Good because I haven’t even stood up and I still think I’m about to fall over.”

Monster Con info from the discord

I thought I'd share some of the info we got about the game/characters from the monprom Discord last night. Disclaimer this is just me summarising conversations from the devs and I might be misinterpreting stuff, plus everything is subject to change in the game anyway

General

All the characters obviously have geeky hobbies but some of them have more focus on it than others.

Release is looking at sometime in 2025 hopefully!

Omen (she/they)

this isn't canon yet so might change, but Omen was a normal monster, ascended to a magical evil energy being, got imprisoned (possibly by the Slayers but this isn't final yet) and has only recently escaped. Omen isn't tied to the 'The Old Ones'.

She uses she/they because she doesn't care for mundane stuff like gender anymore but also is somewhat attached to who she used to be. Omen is the most lore-heavy character.

"Omen is a friggin' gremlin" apparently and Mihail is a fan of their dynamic with Liam.

Omen's arm looks to be amputated on the left. It's unknown if their existing arm is a prosthetic or original. This makes her the first disabled romance option! (Mihail also said the team have notes on looking at an RO with mobility aids for MP5)

Doug (he/him)

Mihail said "Doug is a nice dude who can't manage his own finances and blows up his money instantly in nerdy stuff"

April (she/her)

So clowns are mentioned as a monster type in Prom but April wasn't really created with that in mind. The team have been discussing what it means for clowns to be in the Monster Realm and have some answers that the game might explore eventually.

April is an idol/streamer. She has a contract that means she needs to be 'camera perfect' all the time, so using magic (?) all of her 'bad thoughts' get repressed and come out through those balloon animal mascots. "The different mascots are different sort of not-OK-thoughts". Mihail lists some of the existing ones as 'sad, nervous, lazy/glutton (the Garfield one), angry' and 'psycho' which is the bunny.

Nico (they/them)

Nico is a mimic and their gimmick is cosplay. We're going to see a lot of different cosplays from them, like over 5 likely.

They're a bit of a 'thembo' Mihail says "they surely feel like the choice for anyone who liked Scott. They have their differences; but it is evident Nico would fill that spot"

The way the fandom somehow forgets that the only reason Iapetus became Bob is because he was straight up trying to kill Percy. Percy didn’t actually have an obligation to the murderous Titan he memory-wiped to save his life and his two cousins. The only he thought about Bob after SOH was probably something along the lines of “one less Titan to fight” and nothing else, because again, he tried to kill Percy. This doesn’t even touch on the fact that Hades would not allow Percy to visit the Underworld to visit Bob; the very next time Percy comes to the Underworld, he gets locked in a cell. Like, nice of Nico to talk to Bob and all, but Percy had no reason to think this was occurring or to ever think about what was going on with that one Titan who almost killed him. I beg of some of y’all to think about context

bestie i love Bob but i could list reasons why Percy has no obligation to him, and vice versa.

Bob came into being because Iapetus was trying to kill Percy. he was borne from a fight to the death that Percy only survived because he was smart enough to use his surroundings to his advantage. Percy could have left him alone, confused, and empty on the banks of the Lethe. it would have been well within his rights as a kid who'd just almost died at this being's hand. instead, he took him to Hades, who would, if not take care of him, at least keep him safe. any obligation Percy may have had to the titan ended there.

and Bob? he didn't have to go down to Tartarus for Percy. that he did just shows how kind Iapetus could be, at his base, with no memories interfering with his loyalties. Bob remembers Percy saying they were friends, and that's it. nothing more from him. he goes to help because Nico told Bob how good a friend Percy could be. and once he gets to Tartarus? Percy immediately starts manipulating him again. rather than 'this is who you are,' it's 'this is what to do' and it's subtle enough that it can be disguised as a friend helping a friend! and Percy may even think of Bob as a friend, but that's not what he is first and foremost. first and foremost, he's a titan who needs to be kept in check.

Sorry I found it hysterical that TSATS felt the need to give Will 'dark' plague powers after going on and on about his sun powers because we literally had an entire book about how dangerous and violent and destructive the sun can be. That was definitely a theme in The Burning Maze. When Nico's upset the air around him freezes and when Will gets upset it should get uncomfortably hot to the point where his touch burns. Normally he can calm people down by making them feel like standing in the sunshine on a nice day but he can also make it sweltering and stifling. If Nico feels too dead to the living then Will should feel too alive to the dead. Will doesn't mean to make Nico uncomfortable with his light- but it often means there's no longer any shadows for Nico to fall back on; there's nowhere for him to hide or reach out to for comfort.

I mean. Yeah it's great that Rick went for the "opposite but actually complement" and I like Plague!Will as the next person but like. There could be more to the originial Dark & Light dynamic - which happens to be the one major thing about them.

Especially considering the fact that - as you've mentioned - part of it has already been established. Gosh Rick needs to keep notes of his canon materials. There're also abundant materials to work with, as well! Those you sent^^^ for example. Brilliant representation. I'd take it anyway.

I guess Rick thought Plague is a somewhat resemblance of Nico's Death-thing so it'd be a figure of their Death vs Life dynamic. And in a way, it is! I'm just disappointed that we could have had so much more, you know?

Among Apollo's children, we have Kayla as the archer, Austin as the musician, and Will as a healer. We have yet to have any child with his Driver of the Sun Chariot status - which, as it is, turns out to have the most potentials to be downright destructive if you play your cards right (I mean. look at Hyperion).

Though, in hindsight, I suppose we might be a little bit delusional to put Will in that Sun category. I'm not sure. Rick plans to have Will as the healer - who inherits Apollo's healing talents, not a fighter who supposedly embraces his Sunny side, so maybe that's why our ideas don't align.

(Also? Forever salty that Will's plague power is brushed away like it's nothing. The guy gave the primordial of Night hay fever for Tartarus' sake. Srsly the next step should be wrapping him up to avoid spreading and treating him like a biology terrorist)

Reader has a motherly, pacifist, and cinnamon-roll personality, (or similar to Ryuiichii Kashima from Gakuen babysitter). She also has a 'shackles' like Jyugo but different, this shackle are look similar to ribbons and Their also irremovible as well.

Jyugo and his twin sis were very close and his sister always been take care of him, even they're the same age. Until they got seperate and both were like gloomy w/out each other.

Until they meet again at the Nanbaka, (takes place before new year's tournament)

Jyugo and Reader soon notice and recognize each other, then had a good reunion to each other.

Jyugo and Reader has close siblings relationship/dynamic like the Kashima brothers from Gakuen Babysitter. Reader's like Ryuuichi and Jyugo's like Kotaro.

-You had always been together, even before you had been born, you and your big brother, Jyugo. He had always been there for you, just as you were for him, there wasn’t a day that the two of you were apart…until the incident.

-Not a day went by when you didn’t think about your brother, and he always thought of you, but he never mentioned anything to his cellmates, why? Because they didn’t need to know.

-It was at the tournament when he saw you, another prisoner, sitting in the stands, shouting out his name from your seat. You couldn’t believe that he was there! It had been years since you saw him, after the two of you had been ripped away.

-Jyugo’s eyes went wide, seeing you there, “Y/N!!” his cell mates and Hajime saw him running towards the stands and people all over screamed out as you leapt from the stands, having no fear. You knew that your big brother would always catch you.

-He fell to his back, his arms wrapped tightly around you as your arms were around his neck as you sobbed loudly, clutching your big brother.

-Uno and Rock were glaring hard, tick-marks surrounding them as they watched Jyugo hugging such a cute girl while Nico was sparkly-eyed, wanting to hug you as well.

-Hajime’s eye was twitching, his stomach immediately churning to life with annoyance, seeing that there were two of you as he knew that this was going to be an issue.

-Due to your good behavior, something Hajime didn’t believe for a second, thinking you were the twin spawn of Jyugo, you were transferred to Jyugo’s building and his cell.

-Nico had immediately embraced you and you beamed, twirling with him in your arms, “You have such nice friends, big brother!... Big brother?” you looked around and you Nico saw Jyugo wrapped in his bedroll, being interrogated by Rock and Uno who were comically crying, demanding to know why he had never told them about you.

-Jyugo only made things worse for himself when he finally answered, after he got free, “I didn’t think you guys needed to know since Y/N wasn’t here.”

-Hajime was there only minutes later, the three of them sitting on their knees, steaming lumps on their heads as he yelled at them for the very intense pillow fight.

-When he turned, seeing you and Nico looking at magazines together, his eyelid twitched again, thinking it was a ploy to lure him into a false sense of security.

-When he came, not yelling at you both, but basically putting fear into you, you both had tears well up in your eyes, looking so small and innocent as Jyugo and the others all yelled at Hajime for making you and Nico cry as Uno held you, patting your head while Rock did the same with Nico, which only made Hajime more irritated.

-A few hours later, when you escaped with the others, Yamato caught you easily, mainly because you had stopped to pet Kuu who was meowing happily, content in your arms and you walked with Yamato, “Does my brother escape a lot?” Yamato just laughed warmly, thinking it was funny while Hajime was yelling, “All the time- but my captain always captures them! It’s like a game!”

-You were happy, seeing your brother having so much fun, you were glad that he made such good friends! And you were happy that you were now back with him where you belonged.

For army au, Lewis coming back from deployment and he expects to find Max happy to see him but Max doesn’t seem like himself at all. He’s very jittery around Lewis and is trying to avoid physical content. Lewis is so worried that something has happened while he’s away. Meanwhile Max is feeling incredibly guilty for having a heat with another alpha (which they agreed on before he left) and he feels sick to his stomach about another alpha knotting him. He thinks Lewis can smell it on him and will be angry with him. Max breaks down crying that he’s been a bad mate and he should’ve just pushed through and spent his heat alone, which would be so dangerous for his already compromised health. Lewis tries his best to make Max believe that he’s not mad and he understands. He also talks to Toto about Max’s breakdown and if something happened during the heat

Toto having helped Max in heat (woth his own omega nico there to soothe max who was so torn and confused about Lewis not being there!) Msx consented to this all, as did Lewis, but Max feels so guilty because he enjoyed it? He felt safe and taken care of and maybe he isn't used to pack dynamics so to him it feels like cheating that he enjoyed his heat...

Lewis being so confused about how jittery Max is when he comes home. Max keeps looking so excited and relieved bur stops himself from approaching Lewis, seems stuck on something. Lewis just trying to be nice and patient snf then suddenly Max breaks, sobbing that he betrayed Lewis by having Toto help him in heat snd he is so so sorry, will spend his next heat alone to prove he is loyal to his Alpha and softly begging Lewis not to punish him more! Lewis gathering his mate in his arms to soothe him he knows Max had a rough past bur it hurts him a lot whenever Max doesn't trust him to be kind and keep him safe...

Max quieting down eventually and finslly letting Lewis properly hug and scent himcwhile Lewis whispers how much he loves Maxy! And after they go to see toto and nico, nico taking Max aside to nest while the Alphas talk about how to help Max properly to cause him less panic!

Dark Percy Jackson - WIP

My Review - 7/10, Must read! Author really knows how to capture character dynamics and the writing is simply fantastic. Updates can range a few months but each new chapter is nice and long. Also! Percy's descent into darkness is just done so so well.

PJO Crossover - WIP (Might be perm hiatus)

My Review - 8/10, Bro this has got to be it. Just simply chef's kiss. It's actually crazy how good this is. Hunger Games x PJO. Unfinished.

My Review - 9/10, Unfinished. Hunger Games x PJO. Mind the tags. BTW everything by this author is 10/10. Look at all PJO works. Off topic, but there's also a pretty good Marauder's one-shot somewhere in there.

Actually I'm gonna take a moment to just obsess over hanpersands (the author who wrote the fic above). Ok so, I think I've read all of their PJO fics. There's some very good love triangle Luke-Annabeth-Percy fics in there (10/10). Me personally? I don't like Luke. Big groomer vibes. But I don't think these fics necessarily portray the relationship as a healthy one at all. It's just kinda -- these kids are messed up, their feelings are messed up, there are no good role models around, and their hormones are whack. Let's see how this all comes together. Then there's a good dark Annabeth Chase fic and a good Nico/Percy fic and there's just a lot of gold hidden on this author's profile. Pls go check it out.

My Review - 10/10, probably the best PJO fic I've ever read and I'm very upset there aren't more. Like this is a terribly short list of good fics and now I'm upsetty spaghetti.

I absolutely hate these kinds of posts so I thought I'd do it to see first hand how many people actually like it and care about other people's opinions on their ships so...

my arbitrary ratings of non canon pjoverse relationships and why I think they would never work (or would) (scroll down for canon)

perachel: 3/10 nothing but platonic vibes, their brief stint felt more like an experiment than genuine romantic feelings or attraction; they both deserved better

percico: 1/10 a reiteration of an earlier post: their relationship would get bogged down by unshared feelings and grief, plus nico's crush was just a crush, and percy never had feelings in the first place

perlypso: 0/10 their whole interaction was percy being half dead and calypso being manipulated, not to mention she cursed him

pereyna: 2/10 any het relationship with reyna feels icky to me, she just seems so queer coded (which makes sense cause she literally joined an ace club), and percy was so focused on annabeth when they first met it just doesn't seem fair to either of them

pipercy: 4/10 this is a FRIENDSHIP I wanna see them figuring out they're bi together so much platonic potential

jercy: 7/10 honestly if I had to put these two with anyone else, I would choose this ship solely for the tension in mark of athena and that an alternate ship name is person

percypollo: 0/10 icky, pedophilic, and honestly kinda homophobic. percy would never enter a relationship with a god anyway

percy/literally any god: 0/10 see percypollo

lukercy: -1/10 imo there is no way to write this in a way that's not abusive, predatory, and just bad in general. i will not take the "enemies to lovers" storyline for this one either because there are some things that just aren't redeemable, and i consider luke's actions irredeemable. plus both their histories with annabeth make this ship very, very icky

pipabeth: 9/10 favorite non canon pairing, I can totally see a threesome with Percy, these two have such a great dynamic, only minus a point because I love percabeth too much

jasabeth: 2/10 nothing but platonic vibes

reynabeth: 4/10 they would be so powerful together, but feelings and emotional skills would be their undoing

theyna: 8/10 see reynabeth, but also I would love to see their similarities come to a head when they actually have to confront their feelings

apollo/reyna: 0/10 this is a thing?? ew???? reyna has such a huge issue with authority and the gods in general, it would never work, and see pereyna and percypollo

Nico and Serafine having an older sister is the greatest headcanon I’ve heard in ages and I cannot stop myself from imagining it.

Just them having this older sister who is thought of as being the calm and reasonable one, which is an assumption that has lulled many a victim into a false sense of security because, in actuality, she is just as dangerous. She is nice and polite with an innocent face and ladylike manners; but she also thinks that everyone is expendable apart from Nico and Serafine. To her family is everything and she takes her role as the older sibling very seriously.

I cannot stop thinking about this and their relationship and childhood and I will be thinking about this all weekend now.

Yeah its such an interesting dynamic now that I think about it... this is the kinda stuff I like exploring ....

I like the idea of her being slightly more "dangerous" bc she is so fierecely devoted to her siblings that she'll do and has already done very awful things (tm) to keep them safe, and she hides this streak well with a polite, reasonable facade. Probs removes her accent and country mannerisms entirely when speaking to "outsiders".

Heck she may have been more of a mother figure than simply an older sister. Parentification at a young age and all that, even if shes only 3 or 4 years older .... abandoned by their parents either intentionally or by circumstance and left to be the Protector and the Grown Up .... food for thought

i need to know everything about your pjo voltron au

okay so basic plot premise: Thalia, Luke, Jason, Percy, Maria di Angelo, and Bianca all work at the Garrison and get sent on 3 separate missions (Thalia & Luke, Jason & ??? or maybe he's just by himself, then Percy & Maria & Bianca) which are all "lost" and they're declared dead by the Garrison.

Of course they were actually all abducted by aliens. Maria probably dies pretty early on in that whole situation. Thalia gets separated from Luke and ends up escaping and becoming a rebel. Luke, Jason, and Percy & Bianca all separately (except for Percy & Bianca) end up gladiators. Luke becomes The Champion and basically ends up a Kuron/Sendak-type character situation. Is he being mind-controlled? Unclear. He has a giant alien scythe-sword though. Bianca probably dies buying Percy time in the arena. At some point Percy and Jason find each other and decide to try and stick together.

Hazel is a human raised by her galra dad in space with the Blade of Marmora. She knows she has a half-brother through her dad out there somewhere but not anything else about him. She ends up running into Jason and Percy on a mission and helps them escape cause they're humans too.

Back on Earth, Piper, Leo, and Annabeth are all Garrison students. Or Annabeth is possibly in a Keith-type situation where she used to be a student but got Kinda Pissed Off about all her loved ones disappearing into space and ended up getting kicked out. Nico is in a Pidge-type situation where he snuck in as a student under a false name to figure out what happened to his family's mission. Percy and Jason crash on earth, the gang finds them, they find the Blue Lion, and Percy pilots it to the Altean castleship where they meet Reyna and Frank. Reyna is the Altean Princess, because her sister Hylla was queen. Frank is the son of a high-ranking general or something and he and Reyna are a duo.

Rest going under a cut cause this got long -

Lion adventures happen - Annabeth pilots the Green Lion, Jason pilots the Black Lion. Nico finds the Red Lion and meets Hazel when he does and brings her back to the castle. Hazel pilots the Yellow Lion. Nico very quickly realizes he's half-Galra and Hazel's brother and joins the Blade of Marmora. Percy swaps from Blue to the Red Lion. Piper starts piloting the Blue Lion. Leo, Frank, Reyna, and Nico end up the home-base support team. Percy probably keeps the blue paladin armor and Piper gets the spare pink armor for color association reasons and also cause that's usually the format for every iteration of Voltron anyways. It works out nicely. Everybody has extra lion compatibilities too/every Lion has a back-up basically cause I'm still mad vld canon dropped the lion lore/sentience plotlines and we never got cool dynamic lion swapping instead of just the usual single switch. We're having fun here.

Then everything else I don't have much for other than Annabeth and Nico basically swap Keith and Pidge roles once they join Voltron so Nico goes and has his galra identity crisis adventures and Annabeth reunites with Thalia at some point, who is basically in a Matt-type role. And Luke functions as the Sendak-level antagonist who Annabeth probably gets to fight with a swap back to Keith's role in a whole Keith & Kuron emotional situation. Kronos and Gaea are probably analogous to Zarkon and Haggar/Honerva here but not necessarily in that order, and obviously it's more of an either "Emperor and his advisor mom" or "Empress and her prince son" but in either one somebody's doing magic and people are probably getting possessed. Hades, Persephone, Iaepatus/Bob, and Damasen are all with the BoM. The Titans/Giants are probably all Empire generals. Who's Lotor? Octavian? Calypso? I don't know. Who are all the gods? I dunno. We'll workshop it.

Just another day of losing it over brocedes... Thinking about their dynamic in terms of winning/losing.

Warning: long ass (900-word) post ahead. Lowkey just over-the-top wailing but I!!! *said like a madman* have connected the dots!!! This is definitely subjective–hopefully not unbearably so because I did reference Actual Lore™ and shit.

In another unnecessarily lengthy post I listed some instances of Lewis and Nico being unbelievably competitive over every little thing, including Lewis stating on two occasions that his favourite and least favourite thing about racing were winning and losing. Therein lies the tragedy of it all...

I was digging around trying to soak up more Lore™ and I came across this Lewis quote:

“I think for me, my whole life has been about winning. I have been racing for 29 years, so I think having that mentality of always knowing you can be better... but I think during this time, realising that winning is not everything. Sometimes, when you lose, you actually win and grow.”

This is great!! It demonstrates how Lewis' mentality has matured. What's there to be sad about? Unfortunately for me (it would've been so nice for my sanity if I didn't make the connection), the phrasing in the first bolded part immediately reminded me of this Nico moment @box-box-blorbos had brought up in the tags of my aforementioned brocedes brainrot rant post:

"The fact it was Lewis I took the title from is extra sweet as well because to me it feels that I've been racing him all my life and all my life he's just edged me out for the titles," added Rosberg.

"I've been racing him all my life" "my whole life as been about winning" I'm going to start fucking crying. Not because of the flimsy connection I just made based on the quotes having a couple of words in common, but because of the brothers-cedes’ difference in mentality.

People always talk about how hung up Nico is about Lewis, which is sometimes overblown, but in this case it's absolutely true that Lewis had an indelible presence in Nico's mind. For a large part of his career, his winning/losing was defined not only by his own performance, but by the success of his friend slash rival slash a lot of other things. The opposite is of course true, but I think Lewis generally was better at dealing with that–taking that coveted title in 2008 and "edging" Nico "out for the titles" later on at Mercedes probably helped. Lewis has had significant championship battles with other drivers, whereas for Nico, Lewis was proclaimed by everyone (including himself) as his One True Rival of sorts. Not "I've been racing to win all my life", but "I've been racing him all my life". Winning wasn't just about getting to the top anymore, it was equally about surpassing Lewis.

It was such a terrible way for Nico to look at things. He took the pressure intrinsic to the sport and increased that shit tenfold by developing a devastating mindset which zip-tied together winning/losing and his relationship with Lewis. Really, the deterioration of the worsties' relationship was inevitable.

As a freshly minted Nico Rosberg Apologist™ I of course occasionally bemoan that it seems impossible for people to talk about Nico without bringing up Lewis (yes I'm aware of my hypocrisy here). However, Nico just proves it again and again that Lewis occupies a special place in his heart deranged little brain. Here's another quote from Nico after winning the WDC:

“And I took the World Championship away from him which is a phenomenal feeling.”

Truly, this is a mind-blowing insight into his psyche. Insert screeching and sobbing. Of fucking course he didn't see the WDC as something that started anew each season! Of course he saw it as something belonging to Lewis that he had to earn the right to take away!! Nico Rosberg you were a sick, sick man–not that he isn't now, but he's decidedly less maladjusted (being, as the joke goes, the most therapised man on the planet does wonders for one's mental health).

Of course, Nico's decision to retire was motivated by multiple reasons, and it's disrespectful to say he did it solely because of some twisted desire to deprive Lewis of the chance to get back at him, but it's not a reach to say that having beaten Lewis, to some extent, enabled him to say goodbye so early. Nico has said that he gave up a core piece of his "identity" by deciding not to race anymore. Racing meant trying his damndest to win; winning meant having Lewis Hamilton, the subject of his love and hate right there on the podium with him. Borrowing some of @box-box-blorbos 's tags here, as it was the brilliant words she left under my piece that inspired me to write another one:

To end it on a less depressing note, at least we can rejoice over the fact that while Nico has gotten over f1 racing he clearly hasn't gotten over Lewis... Taking a step back and adopting a more detached grid role has helped him make the distinction between the Lewis that was his rival–who won and won and won against him why couldn’t he just lose for once–and the Lewis who he once promised to, under Greece's night sky, that one day they would conquer the world grid together. In his heart, Lewis is still his best friend–this was of course a joke, but don't jokes always have an element of truth to them?

I regret to inform you that I, in fact, have nothing regarding this AU except for maybe a few visions that would do much better were I an artist instead of a slow-as-snail writer.

I have some reasonable explanation for the di Angelos - Maria had many siblings, and therefore Nico has many cousins who are actually still alive. One of them being the current head of the family (?) and he recognizes Nico. He has a vague sense of the whole Hades thing, so when Nico tells him the truth, he believes him and welcomes him back to the family. Nico then lives with them as his grandson.

I like to play around and imagine that it's like a big family staying together. And Nico now has an 'older brother' - who is actually his... grandnephew?? idk i probably just made that up. It'd be 10x times funnier if said grandnephew is actually aware of the truth. So they have this weird dynamic of "I'm 70 years older than you, son" - "Not in the adoption papers you are not, grandpa" LMAO. And then maybe - just maybe! - a boyfriend who is friends with said older brother/grandnephew? LOL

My plan, as of currently (which is code word for: all the prompts I can think of), is only an one-scene oneshot (you know, typical me).

Initially, I was going to merge it with another prompt I've got in store - which is about Grover coming across Nico in Italy again when he's traveling the world as the god of the wild. The plot would be quite simple, obviously: Grover lands in Venice, recognizes Nico who is just having a nice morning out with his (new) family, and then spends some time together on a bench sightseeing as they contemplate Nico's life story.

It's a one-time encounter between old friends to reminisce about your past - that sort of thing.

On the other hand, I just realized maybe five minutes ago that Reyna can fit quite well in Grover's place, as well. Mainly because:

1/ She is traveling around, too.

2/ She's close to Nico, too.

3/ She's now a Hunter of Artemis, which is a whole other branch that can connect to Bianca in case I want to go there, too.

Hazel is also a good candidate, though in her case I'd have to modify the plot a little, figuring out a good reason for her to cross the freaking Atlantic, what kind of transportation she'll have to take, their reactions upon reuniting - just. a bunch of things, really. I reckon if I'm going to pick Hazel, I would need to bring Percy too bc 1/ Frank would never let Hazel go that far alone but CJ needs at least a praetor; 2/ It allows for more interesting interactions.

But alas - I hardly have enough willpower for both Hazel and Percy, so there's that.

This is everything I have in mind. I'm sorry if you were expecting a multi-chaptered fanfic bc honestly I can't do longfic and half of the time I say I have an AU - it's like a 2-sentence prompt at best 😭😭😭

went on a little drive, which is where i get my best ideas, and wanted to add onto this little headcannon about the devils having a sibling trip

i'm taking inspiration from some of the incredible hockey content i see from specific teams (ex. umich hockey, the bruins, the sabres) and incorporating that into my au hoping that one day the devils get there (i'm not a social girl but i have so many ideas @ devs social content production department you should hire me)

ANYWAYS so on the sibling trip, let's say it's a trip that requires somewhat of a long plane ride. so lets say the players and their siblings / mentors are going to dallas

the social person has an idea of doing a little boyfriend v brother bit and clementine is 100% down. anything to do to pass the time.

there's a debate on whether to do luke or jack. ultimately i think jack does it, with luke laughing in the background the whole time and claiming that he could've done better (he so could've)

so picture them on the plane, all with mics attached to them, nico and jack both having a whiteboard and a dream

questions range from the basics like birthday, favorite food, colleges she attended to obscure things like names of her three housemates at UCLA, name of her first car, and the name of the cafe she likes to indulge in during a rough shift

(yes clementine absolutely thought of these questions and she's well aware some of them are not fair. she's not here to play nice!)

i wish i could word it better but the editing is god tier. i'm talking zoom ins to nico and jack's gulps, quips heard from people off camera (luke, nina, other staff) because most everyone on the plane is gathered around to watch this

like can you just picture jack not knowing some of the answers and trying to be casual about it but it actually kills him inside and nico just leaning back with his dimples and laughing the whole time. incredible dynamics at play.

it ends up becoming one of their most viewed pieces of content

i just feel like this is a fun way to showcase the siblings trip with a subtle nod to clem x nico in a way that's respectful and makes sense. if only the devils social team would step it up (hire me pls. and i could go on a whole rant about nhl / team marketing via social content but that's an essay for another time)
