Alrighty I’ve finally finished season 5

I hate how obvious it is they’re trying to tone the show down completely to even lower audience demographic. The first 3 seasons were for kids but there was actual peril and darker concepts and stuff that were much more interesting damn you Nickelodeon and your desperate attempt to keep the most squeaky clean image ever not only does it not work it’s costing stories and plot

I REFUSE to believe Stella would be a bad fashion designer with how much she loves fashion (I know it was a joke in s1 too but I still refuse). Plus, avant-garde is a thing and she would serve

That boat that was sent from Andros was def made exclusively for the winx there is NO WAY that style exists anywhere else on that planet for land related peoples with all of its hard lines and industrial style architecture with its limited color palettes

The nautical themed outfits are cute but Bloom’s looks SO overdone to me and Stella,, my sweet babygorl,, wtf did you do to your own fit?? Aisha’s poodle puff braid ftw also

Harmonix was totally useless BUT I still like the flower petal aesthetic vibe (even tho only Flora is a nature floral lady) and some of the color combos. Bloom in pink is still a no tho, which is something I mainly hate because of how obvious it is they started integrating it into her more to make her more marketable for toy lines and shit

Where did the gems that were already on the starfish thing for sirenix come from?

The only good things I can say about the dance outfits is that Flora’s purple leg warmers were cute, Aisha’s color palette was nice, and Bloom’s was very Bloom core

thank u for the ask!! and thank u for reading i’m so glad you like it <3 i’ve actually thought abt this quite a bit!! the thing with collabs, is that either i could use an irl celebrity, or i could make a character a celebrity and make them work with nico—so here are my thoughts on both options:

1) a real celebrity - i try to stay away from involving real life people in the fic, as in interactions, because i don’t know any of those people irl and i would hate to, like, mischaracterize someone or write positively abt someone who eventually gets revealed to be like a shitty person, yk? the most i’ve ever done, i think, is that one time i mentioned nico taking a picture with lorde - but even then, it wasn’t him talking abt her, it was just a picture that was posted. that, and the absurd amount of taylor swift name drops that i have, which i will never stop😭

basically, though i have considered it (my mind is literally CONSTANTLY imagine collabs of nico and other celebs/other songs), i literally have a playlist of them, i don’t think i would ever include it in the fic. simply bc of the concerns mentioned above :/

(however, i would like everyone to know that ive been imagining nico as a surprise guest on the rep tour, and having him featured on rep tv, for like- literally as long as ive had this au in my head. ill never write him collating with taylor (bc again idk i just feel strange writing abt real ppl) but in my head, it’s canon)

2) creating a new celeb - this one is hard, pretty much bc i’m… out of characters.

like, i still HAVE characters to use, but i already have plans for most of them and a majority of them aren’t actually part of the music industry. i could justify a collab between alex and nico bc she’s like the only music person i have written, but i also don’t wanna force that

if i ever do, which i doubt, bc i don’t have any plans to at the moment, it’ll be a pjo character, i just don’t have any idea of who that would be :/

oh and! last reason why i’m hesitant to add a collab - i feel like nico writing music is so engrained with him working with apollo as a producer, and their studio dynamic. obviously, it’s good to step out of your comfort zone, but i think that it’s also some sense of caution and comfort between them, that they’re the same people who will work on every nico di angelo song and album.

either way, i have seven albums outlined in total. the time span of greatest of luxuries goes from 2018-2024. that may be subject to change, but im feeling pretty confident abt it (it used to be 2028 btw😭) and anything PAST that time range is completely up to the reader!! i have lots of ideas of what could happen beyond that seventh album, and i have an idea (and a playlist) of the eighth album, but i can definitely imagine a lot of features in the future as he branches out. (and also him on rep tv. or ttpd. will update when ttpd comes out if i think there’s a specific song he’d slay as a feature on)

and lastly, for features. yes. he is on the hunger games tbosas soundtrack bc i say so‼️

Eurovision 2023 PRESHOW - part 2: the irrelevants

Sometimes you come across countries that try their best and still somehow, fail to make it past the stage of mediocrity. These entries aren’t going to make a splash, they merely attend the contest where they’ll likely not make much of an impact. Nothing to be offended by. That doesn’t take away they’re still kind of shit though. 💔

33. SAN MARINO Piqued Jacks - “Like an animal” Semi 2, slot #12

Another year of me not caring about San Marino. Hooray! 😐

Though let’s be honest that on this occasion I’m in the majority. 🙂 I don’t dislike PJ as much as most fans appear to do though. I think it’s  because there are days (most days) I forget San Marino are in this year’s rotation?

But when I am forced to remember San Marino are in and THIS is their entry and... has there ever been an entry this far away from the concept of “a slay”? The goat noises at the ends, jeeeesus. There probably are more inane entries out there, but not in 2023. Everything about Piqued Jacks is painfully heterosexual ranging from their nicknames to the song and its lyrics.

Speaking of the lyrics, um, yeah let’s pick apart its many issues I guess? First and foremost the narrative is that of a random straight man chasing after a woman on the dancefloor (so: IN PUBLIC) because she looked at him funny and he is failing to control his impulses to grind all of his appendages against her bodice. YIKES. 😬 

This image is then further enhanced by the..; um... colourful metaphors in which body parts are being assigned animalistic properties (SNAKE eyes, BITING tongue) and suddenly this flirty song about a hopeless normie desperately trying to get laid has taken a turn towards sinisterville. There are plenty of vibes you can go for here, but “accidentally preditorial” is not one of them. 😐

Still better than Salvaje though. 🙂

32. NETHERLANDS Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper - “Burning Daylight” Semi 1, slot #14

To be honest, when I first heard Duncan Laurence would write a song for Eurovision and it would be sung by two indie randoms who barely knew each other, I instantly assumed I’d hate the Dutch entry this year. Yeah, Arcade was good but I am SO sick of it and Duncan at this point (in a similar vein to other people having had enough Måns and KEiiNO) . Mia/Dion meanwhile were giving off Isaiah/Evie vibes. ALLL the worrying signals were there!

So it is any surprise "Burning daylight” churned out to a few stilted, horrendous messy lives that have made it abundantly clear that Mia and Dion do NOT mesh together, at all? No, of course not. 

That said, the song’s like........... fine, I guess? I don’t fucking understand why Burning Daylight had to be a duet or you know, this insipid. DE DIEPTE JUST HAPPENED, AND GOT IT ALL RIGHT. 

I did get a small snort out of AVROTROS outright admitting that they hadn’t known in advance about the juries getting nixed in the semi, and if they had they probably would have picked something else. Is that admission more painful than the preparty performances at Madrid and Amsterdam? I’ll let you decided. Moral of the story if the selection offers up a choice of MEROL, you always fucking take the MEROL. Morons.

Odds at Eurovision - Netherlands

 “GOODBYE OLD LIIIIIIIIIIIFE” -- Netherlands saying goodbye to the Success Era.  

Like, seriously. Logically, I feel like good staging and Netherlands’ excellent draw should be enough to clinch a qual on paper. In reality: We’ve all seen the footage. 

To be fair though, I was there when they flobbed in Amsterdam, and it seemed not as bad as some others (then again, ESCUnited’s Sean was standing next to me drunkedly SHRIEKING the chorus down my ear canals so i may have missed most of the essence). Alessandra was VERY bad, and Vesna weren’t too great either - too bad Vesna and Alessandra actually have competitive songs where the vocals matter less~

What is going to secure this NQ though is that the Dutch have already lost their fooken MINDS about what have been two supbar lives, and are going to drag Dion and Mia down in their negative spiral. I do feel that if the home country doesn’t support you, your press doesn’t support you and worse, if foreign media and commentators pick up on that and report it back to their audiences, you’re in for a miserable experience and a headfirst collision into a bottom of the scoreboard finish. There is a small window for Netherlands to qualify because, you know.. .Malta aren’t secure. Latvia aren’t secure. Switzerland aren’t secure. SERBIA aren’t secure, Czechia aren’t secure either. And since only five countries die (note that I am not mentioning the two obviously dead NQs)  there is a chance for NL to slip through if they fix their most pressing issues.

There is sadly little fixing can do if you’re song’s unvotable. 

Qualifier tier: D Projected placement: 10-15th (semi), 23rd-26th (Grand Final)

31. ALBANIA Albina Kelmendi & Family - “Duje” Semi 2, slot #14

A family! isn’t it CUTE!!!

I’d argue that thanks to the awkward shuffling in every live of “Duje” and the strangely sinister narrative of the music video (are they GENUINELY implying that Albina is having the hots for her own brother?! lol?!), Albania’s song is the fucking antithesis of “cute”. 🙂 “Duje” is so strange man. If you were to just listen to the track without any other input you may find it pleasant enough, I guess. The Kelmendii are just... not very gifted at performing live (Albina excepted), and ESC IS a live performance contest, soz. They’re like D-mol, but less funny and only slightly less embarrassing.

So of course Albania became the object of an irony-fueled lovefest by the fans, because “lololol so inept bless” but i’ve decided I find that particular discouse patronizing, and the entry itself off-putting. 🙂

Idk, an entire family singing a song about LOVE CONQUERING ALL, while awkwardly touching each other and exchanging meaninful creates a cult-like undercurrent that I’d rather steer away from as much as possible. 

Odds at Eurovision - Albania

Okay so semi 2 is a really fucking crapshoot in that there are 7 obvious qualifiers, and the others (not counting SM) have a shot at claiming the last 3 spots. 

Even with that information in mind, I still feel like Albania are one of the three LEAST likely countries to qualify in that semi? (after, of course, Romania and Poland). As I said before, the Kelmendi’s unironically remind me of D-Mol,and their song is a strange off-putting janky mess that even the Albanians will be reluctant to vote for. 

Albina’s only trump card is that she’s brought her family along, and this is a dicey USP when most of them aren’t particularly good at doing Eurovision things. 

Also, Albania are missing their biggest allies which are Switzerland (semi 1), Montenegro (not in), and NoMac (not in). So yeah, it will be a huge uphill battle. BUT AT LEAST LOVE WILL CONQUER EVERYTHING (when Gustaph destroys the concept of homophobia and wins the semi)

If Albania do qualify, bottom 4 in the finale seems very clear, here?

A blistering 9th-to-last place for everyone’s favourite act to hate! Hooray!

I don’t know, I do think Wild Youth are strangely... overhated? Like, if you’re Ireland and you want bring a typical sound to the contest your country is known for, then why not go for a U2 B-side track? It seems really valid choice to me. how you can despise any act that DENIED Johnny Rotten’s bid for ESC is beyond me, tbh. 

But yeah, “We are one” is really fucking insipid. Musically I don’t have anything negative to say about it though? The composition is fine, if unexciting. 

Its message though is where I lost all interest - being INCLUSIVE and DIFFERENT and UNIQUE so that WE ARE ONE. It is meant to be inspirational and instead achieved the opposite effect - annoying clichémongering is not a way to go, ever in life, anywhere.  🙂

Now, I will say that I feel a bit sorry for Wild Youth because their Eurovision experience so far has been a big pile o’ misery.  Like at EIC, Connor was DENIED ENTRY to the afterparty by the security guards because he didn’t have a wristband, eventhough he showed up in the SAME outfit he had performed in earleir that night.

When the cunts yelled “NUNCA AL FINAL” at them in Barcelona, they lowered the bar even more in terms of fanbase toxicity - and even this distinction was immediately taken away from Wild Youth when the same crowd chanted “RONELA” at Piqued Jacks (the most pathetic thing i’ve seen eurofans do, aside from maybe that Andromache shell tattoo)

so um yeah. Wild Youth don’t make it higher than NL or SM specifically based on musical merit - although they, unlike Mia and Dion can at least hold a tune.

They made it this far because I feel sorry for them. 😬

Odds at Eurovision - Ireland

Yeah this is NQ. I know, you know, Wild Youth know, let’s not rub it in. Notionally there are scenarios where other countries could fuck up and crash themselves out of the Grand Final, but if I’m honest if that were to happen, it'd probably benefits the other hopeless NQ more?  

Besides, Ireland have already run their reputation into the ground through their HORRIBLE non-qualification streak; inept leadership and uninspired entries. At this point everyone expects them to be last place because that’s what we’ve been led to expect from them over the years.  I don’t think WY necessarily place dead last though. I could see the parents that tune in liking it enough to cast a vote for it, granting it a random 12th place. Qualification is too big a feat to pull off here though. Qualifier tier: F Projected placement: 12th-15th (Semi)

I loved this entry- something about your pure vibes led me to the answer. Sometimes I really think these through with my brain algorithm, and I love doing that, but Anton himself just led me to you, and I can’t explain why.

I think it’s something about the sheer range of interests you have and the amount of energy with which you engage with them. Like, let’s be real- Anton is probably a nerd. He’s a soft-spoken, introverted-ish technician who was probably a stem major; dude is hella nerdy and probably in his own little world if someone doesn’t turn his head. It’s giving that introvert/extrovert, STEM/liberal arts couple that works really well and is super cute.

I can very easily picture you as his “Blossom” as some people like to call his listener. Anton would miss you dearly while he’s on assignment at ETS and all the little things about you like the way you sing along in the car to your favorite girl songs or the way. He would miss window shopping with you and the way you might get distracted, hopping from one display to the next as he makes mental notes to spoil you with the things that catch your eye. He misses your constantly changing playlists that act as time capsules of him months with you, (Maybe, if he’s lucky, you’re allowed to share them with him, and Anton can at least listen to them and know you and he might have the same song stuck in your head.)

Baggy Jeans-okay first of all the mv is absolutely wild. im like gagged. my jaw was dropped the whole time. probably screamed more times than i'd like to admit. 30 Day Song(fic) Challenge: Day 18

I hadn't thought I'd get this one done, but here's today's Song(fic) Challenge entry! The prompt was "A song you like from an artist who is no longer living", and after multiple hours of going through playlists and discographies, I eventually ended up on "Grapefruit Juicy Fruit" by Jimmy Buffet. Yes, I am just as shocked as you are that this is my second Jimmy Buffet song of the month.

Compared to my other works this month, this fic is primarily based more on vibes/tone of the song and only a few lyrics, as opposed to fitting the majority of the lyrics, which I found surprisingly freeing! Additionally, this fic is brought to you by the fact that I just completed the Lurelin pirate quest in TotK today, and it just felt right to stick Link in the part of the game I myself ended at.

Of course, he couldn’t leave Lurelin, even when the job of pirate-slaying was done. Not when there was a promise of healing the scarred village, of rebuilding the charming huts he’d visited so often with Zelda. Of helping the Lurelin diaspora return to their homes.  Everyone deserved to be able to go home.

Ocean water, still warm from the sun beating on Lurelin’s shallow bay all day, rushed up and over Link’s ankles before draining back in a motion that felt like it was pulling him ever so slowly further into the surf. He could feel it leaving debris clinging to his feet and legs—sand, mostly, but also small, dark particles he knew to be pulverized chunks of charcoal from Lurelin’s burnt buildings. They scraped, ever so slightly.

If Zelda were here, she might have commented on how they acted as an exfoliator, how charcoal was actually beneficial for the skin and even teeth.

Link raised his fermented palm fruit cider to his mouth, and took a long, deep swallow.

It was his third day in Lurelin, his fourth night. He’d arrived as the village fell into darkness, and eliminated one lone monster after the other when possible; whole camps at once when it wasn’t. He snacked on the roasted fish he stole from their fires. He napped between kills to keep his strength up. Even when the sun rose, he doggedly continued around the crescent moon of the village, finishing with the pirate ship in the bay. He’d been worried about the silver boss bokoblin, but between the two muddlebuds he’d fired onto the deck and the six shots from his savage lynel bow as he launched himself from the upper deck, it had gone down easier than his tropical beverage currently was.

Of course, he couldn’t leave Lurelin, even when the job of pirate-slaying was done. Not when there was a promise of healing the scarred village, of rebuilding the charming huts he’d visited so often with Zelda. Of helping the Lurelin diaspora return to their homes.

Link looked up into the heavens despite himself, at the galaxies reflecting on the sea that stretched out before him. Somewhere, on the other side of it, there was land, and people he’d never met and probably never would. He wondered if they’d ever heard tell of Hyrule’s Light Dragon in the last ten thousand years. Surely her story would have made it somewhere besides his own ears in all those lifetimes.

His gaze fell back to the surf, and he took another long draught of palm fruit cider.

He and Bolson had spent the last two days rebuilding. Link had harvested logs from the evermeans along Atun Valley, loath as ever to cut down normal trees that wouldn’t just return from the blood moon’s gloom each month, but would have to slowly grow back themselves. Rather than utilize Rauru’s arm the entire time—he tried not to use it if he didn’t have to, it just didn’t…feel right—he pushed the fifteen logs one by one down the slopes towards the village. Luckily, he hadn’t needed to leave and return for the sheafs of rice Bolson requested; the lynel fight he’d struggled through in the rice field on the Kamah Plateau had been good for something, after all.

Tomorrow, Bolson was meant to finish up the foundations for the headsman’s home and Armes’ home. They’d decided to prioritize those buildings first, for the sake of the displaced and shelterless people already in the village; they’d move on to the inn next, for more housing while the news spread and Lurelines began to return in greater numbers. Bolson had mentioned something about central pillars as a next step as Link handed him a nail, but Link hadn’t been able to hear anything in detail over the pounding of his hammer. 

That was okay. Link wasn’t in a rush. The wind had rather ceased filling his sails after he’d collected Zelda’s final Tear. Thank Hylia he’d already helped with the crises around Hyrule before that, or its people might still be languishing in their disasters.

His palm fruit husk ran dry. He tossed it lightly in his hand, appreciating its heft, and then let it drop to the sand beneath him.

Maybe he’d fall asleep on the beach tonight. The crashing of waves as the tide rolled in could drown out his thoughts as he tried to fall asleep; the eastern sun over the bay could awaken him bright and early for a long day of hard work. If he got washed out to sea, well, maybe that wouldn’t be too much of a problem either. Hylia would never free him from his labors, after all. He’d probably just wake up out on Eventide, or maybe some other island with some other problems he’d need to solve. 

Somewhere out in the water ahead of him, a waterbird swooped down to spear a fish with its sharp beak. He couldn’t see it in the darkness, but recognized the whistling thrum of wingbeats, and the slightest dying splash of the porgy. The circle of life went on, even when something so horrible had happened to their habitat.

Link supposed he would have to go on, too. To finish his task here, and then take his rightful place in the cycle of violence, of blood moon and bloodshed, until he could finally rest.

Even if he rested alone.

Rating TDP Soundtrack Pieces ! Part 1

captain of the crustacean - 8/10 its sad and nostalgic but starts out kinda peppy, then goes almost into this glitch mode at once place?! like woah. great way to incorporate the music style but make it still seem scary

into your mind and heart - 10/10 JUST FOR THE BEGINNING the chords?? they are absolutely gorgeous and then it continues with the same basis its so pretty yet urgent ?!

the eclipse of lux aurea - 10/10 its mysterious yet eerie at the same time and still fits with the classical vibe. slightly feels like horror

i am aaravos - 2/10 its just a bunch of creepy noises and music. i may or may not be biased, but like cmon, "i am aaravos" ?! and the same bases of notes, its not even exciting. its predicable too, the ending where it gets louder and more urgent. thats probably the best part honestly. 

bringer of tarts / beneath the sands - 6/10. cute, starts off small- uses a version of the main theme, like most of them do. its oddly eerie, like most of the songs in the show. urgent as well, in the middle. and then like eerie and urgent interchange.

shadow of the ambler - 7/10 its slay i like the upbeat / fast paced rhythm but its constantly repeating notes and also one point off bc i did not like that ambler <3

deadwood deserves dignity - 5/10 ooh its a bit bouncy, not upbeat but again- urgent. urgent and eerie are two words that describe almost every song here.

up to us now - 10/10 wooo this song is **upbeat**. rushed, definitely seems like something serious is happening and things need to be done fast. and then when the excitement dies down, its just... time to get things ready. and then ofc, the main theme remix but its more hopeful and wistful then melancholy. then the step beats, which make it seem like theres some sort of impending doom? its a masterpiece, honestly. also of good size, about 2 1/2 minutes.

ultimatum - 9/10 starts off with the main theme in a different key, then repeats in the main key. uses a version of a later part of the main theme next. then becomes somewhat sinister, like the rest. i'm sensing a theme here lol

the trial - 5/10 it started off kinda bouncy i thought id be different and then it just became like the others... slow and creepy. not very special 

the jelly tart heist - 10/10 a nice break from the eerie music, its very urgent but its cute. the context is adorable. literally fully points just for it being for ezran. but its super short

moving too fast - 9/10 damn this. this hits hard. its slow and then nostalgic and then welcoming and ? and the sudden urgent part and then getting slow again... its oddly relaxing yet sad i wouldnt listen to this if i was in a bad mood

captain of the crustacean - 7/10 its slow, its calm. no sudden urgency, with im thankful for. majority of it is a part of the main theme so there is that. its nice.

breaking the cycle - 10/10 its ?? i don't know how to explain it. it starts off extremely slow almost unsettling, and i want to know what's going on. it feels like something big is about to happen. and then the middle where it gets so urgent and even slower?? and then... changing into folk?! and then picking up the pace?! this piece is playing with my mind /pos

the prince of neolandia - 8/10 i kinda like this its regal and cool but how is it so short it ended in 40 seconds

waking the dragon - 5/10 its average. just the back and forth from slow to extremely urgent and so on. its definitely a more sudden or compelling piece. its pretty long as well, 4 minutes

tomorrow the sun will rise - 5/10 so a point off for starting with the main theme, again. its being overused and this one copied a whole measure. and then it gets creepy ?! and then that random break in the middle and then going to slow classical music (its pretty though) ?! huh?! i like this one violin solo though. and then ends on a creepy beat. interesting, i dont hate that part.

soren's truth - 7/10 damnn this is a bit emo for soren but its understandable, a bit out of character in the middle, like a battle scene? but its good

last sunset - 9/10 completely different vibe from the others. slow, steady, upsetting. a few of the notes from the main theme, just enough to recognize but not too many that its repeating it. its sad yet gorgeous, like its the end and everyone's just... accepted it, this is the last thing they'll see, and they want to enjoy it peacefully

worse than death - 2/10 this scared the hell out of me. oh gosh. its too scary for my liking, thank you

going home - 10/10 this feels like going home. they use a version of the the main theme, but include a few major notes and make it seem a bit hopeful- although still the same vibe as before. the ending is rushed, yet it seems like someone running to reach their home, more excited then sad. its truly beautiful.

the war of blood and ash - 6/10 the soundtracks for season four and five are all very similar, with the slow start and then cresendo, and this one isnt very different. still has the sinister vibe to it while also starting calm, but definitely not peaceful. its predictable for me though. and the wind ?! im noticing that sound in almost all the 4/5 pieces. interesting.

quick note: im rating all the pieces from season 1-5 in random order, chosen by spotify. i listen to every single one fully before writing the review. therefore, ive noticed a lot of similarities in style, season 1, 2, and 3 are more composed and royal, simply more classical and urgent, while 4 and 5 are all absolutely nervewraking and odd. practically all of them include a hint of the main theme- sometimes in a different octave of pitch- so you have to listen carefully to find it.

Like alot of their songs have like gloomy meanings but such happy instumentals. they're rly talented tho! oh no i get the nwjns thing i call min heejin wretched evil every chance i get...txt debuted around the time the whole "i wanna be me" kind of concept was starting to pick up so i wasn't surprised that their music turned emotional when cysm dropped. i did lose my interest after lovesong dropped bc i thought they weren't the best at rock and the whole growling thing didn't fit their vocals + for the majority of their tracks their voices are autotuned to achieve a tinny effect which works best with their edm songs personally i don't like when voices are autotuned in rock bc i prefer live instruments used in production so autotuned voices stick out really badly. also for the mainstream rock trend that took over kpop they used electronic guitars and drums which sound different from recorded guitars n stuff so i wasn't really interested. i was rllyyy glad when they dropped the rock bc rock doesn't have danceable music in the first place you just kinda headbang and scream along with the singer 😭

i think they do rock influence better or when they integrate electric guitars and stuff like that in their music compared to full on rock because the rock songs they released felt super super sanitised for the gp. I'm obvs not an expert in rock but compared to bands like day6 or rock groups like dreamcatcher you could reallyyyy hear the difference

i also think a huge part of why nwjns is so popular is because theyre so young ik a LOT of people hate and are concerned over the fact that the youngest member is 14 but i also feel they'll forget about it just as they forgot how young leeseo is... the styling for their debut was superrr concerning and the backlash ador got gave a good impact but :/ eventually theyre gonna be put in tank tops again i feel. it's not even a new problem bc kpop has been debuting young idols for ages and we move on VERY quickly i dont remember belift getting backlash for fever even though niki was like fourteen when it released

[wolf-and-bard]

The Geraskier dark academia AU of my dreams (because writing these up keeps me sane; TLDR at the bottom because this escalated):

-Jaskier is so ready for college. Like, the readiest he's ever been for anything in his life. He couldn't wait to get out of his stuffy family home, away from his narrow-minded hometown, he is ready. He signs up for a Liberal Arts major, moves into a dorm, drinks his brains away during the first week. He makes an archnemesis, he makes friends, he live-documents the whole affair on Snapchat for his friend Triss who lives across the country, but is always with him in spirit. Life is good.

-Jaskier doesn't think twice when his roommate Zoltan invites him to come along to a party at the Kaer Morhen fraternity house because hello? Orientation week was last month, high time he goes to an actual frat party full of guys like wardrobes that eminate sexual self-assuredness and hopefully some sexual flexibility as well. He puts on his most revealing shirt and too tight jeans and joins Zoltan. The fraternity house is old, red-brick with sandstone pillars and iron-wrought gates which would seem rusty if not for the ivy that curls around them. It's chock-full with people of every kind of major and age, most of them drunk beyond reason by the time Jaskier and Zoltan arrive. Zoltan disappears in a tangle of rugby-players and leaves Jaskier to his own devices. He befriends a group of Archeology majors, their leader being a cute blond called Filavandrel, and they share a bottle of red wine, round and round. He meets his archnemesis, the one he spent all orientation week bickering about music with, Valdo or some nonsense, and they do tequila shots. It’s a nice party and Jaskier has the time of his life until he returns from the bathroom to find a god of a guy standing in the hallway.

-"Oh hello," Jaskier mutters under his breath. Before, his evening was aimless, he let the wave of the vibe take him wherever, let the alcohol blur the world around him. But now, he has an objective. And that objective stands all by his lonesome, scowling down the hallway. Man, does he brood well. Jaskier usually goes for people that are easy to read if some casual fun is what he has in mind -and it's not out of his mind just yet - but this guy intrigues him; there is more to him than simple dudebro-ness. He has shock-grey hair and startling amber eyes and seems to cast the longest shadow. Jaskier wants to ride him. Jaskier also wants to serenade him on a starlit wooden bridge and collect all the guy's deepest secrets and desires to keep under his pillow and draw divine inspiration from. Okay, that may be the Tequila shots talking. He scurries over to the bar, downs another two, then approaches the guy.

-"Hi," Jaskier says as he sidles up to him. The guy half-heartedly raises his beer in greeting.  Taciturn, dark, dramatic. Jaskier decides to go for it. "I absolutely adore the way you just stand here and brood." (Jaskier will only learn much much later that he accidentally used some weird Kaer Morhen frat code and set off a chain of events that changed his life forever). "Lamb," the guy calls out instead of answering, something that makes Jaskier think he's so far gone that he's actively hallucinating. But no, seconds later a guy with equally lush red hair and equally thick arms appears from the crowd. He wears a scowl which has Jaskier's throat tighten. "What is it, Wolf?" Wolf, huh? "Go collect Goat and Kitty-Cat. I found him." And Wolf-Guy grabs Jaskier by the back of the neck and hauls him through a door, down some stairs - is that marble? are those torches? GARGOYLES? - and into pitch blackness. Jaskier squeals. This is what he imagined when he dreamt of college. Well not exactly this, but close enough.

-They bind him with silk scarfs and put a blindfold over his eyes which, okay. Jaskier knows he shouldn't find this as sexy as he does, but he can't help it. He has no sense of self-preservation and this will just be the best of fuel for the first assignment in his screenwriting class. "Oh, this is fun," he murmurs when someone tugs off his boots and someone else smears a fatty paste onto his lips. It smells like... okay it smells lot like his uncle Matthew's pigsty. Weirdly disgusting. "Who are you guys anyway?"

-They don't speak at all that night, don't take off the blind-fold until way later. All night, Jaskier can hear them rustling around him, chanting in some language he doesn't understand. They give him several drinks, most of which honestly taste like asphalt, but make his insides go fuzzy. When the blindfold comes off eventually, Jaskier finds himself on the front-seat of a pick up truck, Wolf guy behind the wheel. They are parked behind the frat house. "Look, I don't think you're a suitable candidate. The guys all said they want to keep you, but my friend recognized you from the freshman introduction party and we usually only inaugurate sophomores." Jaskier blinks. He has absolutely no idea what's going in anymore. His friend Triss is probably worried sick because he hasn't checked in all evening. The faint taste of burned rubber clings to his lips and all Jaskier can think is: Fuck, is this man hot. "Go out with me," he blurts. "Go out with me, I'll show you how suitable I am."

-Over the course of a month's worth of introductions, preparation and inauguration traditions (which, among other things, have him dropped butt-naked in the middle of the forest, requiring him to find his way back to campus; have him spend more time learning long-dead languages than he is comfortbale with; have him getting thoroughly intimate with Eskel's (Goat) helper syndrome, Lambert (Lamb) and Aiden's (Kitty-Cat) ostentatiously loud fucking, Coen's (Hawk) frequent absences and Geralt's (Wolf) quiet, but passionate idealism) Jaskier learns the truth at the core of Kaer Morhen. It is more than a fraternity, it is a brotherhood of students that spend their free time in rituals to protect the college, its city, likely even the whole state from supernatural creatures that threaten to cross over into the world. The existence of these is no surprise to Jaskier who's come out of an adolescence of escapism and coping through fiction and song, but the fact that there are handsome tough guys who work to banish him is too much of a dream to be true. It is true. Unofficially, the call themselves Witchers. They catch wraiths in cricles of runes, they re-direct necrophages into Kaer Morhen's basement and slay them with blades of silver. They brew potions and cast minor spells to get rid of mutated insectoids. And Jaskier is to be one of them. They call him Lark.

-His first ritual goes bat-shit wrong. Jaskier is reasonably sure he did everything right, but the wraith doesn't stay contained after they bound it . "Fuck," Geralt growns after, pressing a cloth to the gaping wound in Jaskier's shoulder while they wait for Eskel to whip out the first aid kit. Jaskier shudders, can taste blood. "There shouldn't be fireflies here, right?" - "Ah, nope," Lambert says. He keeps snapping his fingers before Jaskier's eyes. "Hey, Lark, stay with us, okay?" - "He's fine," Aiden says, inspecting his nails. "If anything, it's Geralt we should be worried about. He's about to have a full blown panic attack." Geralt grunts and holds Jaskier closer.

-"Does this mean I can ask Priscilla to let me copy her homework," Jaskier asks later. He's in bed, bundled up in one of Kaer Morhen's bedrooms. Portraits of alumni line the wall and a hearth crackles away. Geralt sits next to the bed, a pretense-book on his lap. His eyes bore into Jaskier, wide, haunted. "Jask," he breathes out shakily. - "Hello, big guy. How are we doing?" - "Better now that you're awake. We... we had to call in Vesemir. He will want to talk to you." - "Alright, okay," Jaskier says. He knows who Vesemir is of course, but he has no idea what exactly his job entails or what having to talk to him means. "Geralt?" - "Hmm?" - "What did I do wrong?" - "Nothing. You were uncharacteristically precise... but it turns out I was right all along. You're not suited for this kind of work." - "Because I'm not big and buff like all of you?" Jaskier asks, pouting. Geralt has the audacity to laugh. But he also takes Jaskier's hands and kisses his knuckles and huh? What? Jaskier's brain short-circuits. Fuck when did he fall so hard for Geralt? "No, Jask, you're perfect. I mean, uh, ah, perfectly annoying." That bastard. "The wraith went crazy because it turns out you're an amplifier. That means supernatural creatures are pulled to you and can draw from you to manifest easier in our world. You wouldn't have noticed this unless you ever passed by a spot where the spheres overlap significantly. As it is, your participation in the ritual poses a danger." - "TLDR: I'm fired?" - "That's for Vesemir to decide... truth be told, I don't want you to go. But I can't stand the thought of you being in danger. Because of me, this." - "Go out with me, Geralt. Please. One coffee," Jaskier practically begs. Yes, his shoulder is minced meat and he feels exhausted from the blood loss but Geralt has never been this open and honest with him. "...fine."

-Jaskier heals up under the diligent care of his friends. Priscilla is allowed over too, practically drags him though his classes with tutoring and copies of her homework and sugar-coated emails to his various professors. Triss video-calls him three times a day. Eskel's med school expertise leaves Jaskier with the most neat scar he is ever going to get out of this, Lambert and Aiden hang out to play Gwent with him, a strange card game they invented and custom-painted, Coën even pops in to bring Jaskier his guitar and a venti Matcha Tea Latte even though the nearest Starbucks is miles away. Geralt... Geralt is there almost all the way. He sleeps in the chair at first, then - on Jaskier's stern insistence - in the bed with him, though careful to keep his distance. He helps Jaskier into the shower, something so strangely intimate without feeling innately sexual, he takes him out on slow walks. Geralt doesn't talk much, but Jaskier knows he feels responsible. It's fine. Sure. Absolutely fine. Jaskier is so far gone for this man by the time he moves back into his own dorm that he considers getting injured again just to have Geralt by his side. They never do go out for coffee.

-Vesemir doesn't so much invite Jaskier as have him called out of his choir session by a girl about Jaskier's age. She has the same hair color as Geralt and Jaskier thinks he's seen her around Kaer Morhen's bigger parties. "Hello, Jaskier," she says sweetly, but one look at her tells Jaskier she's deadlier than any of the frat boys. If his drunk memory serves correctly she also does a phenomenal keg stand. "Ves sends me to collect you." Which has Jaskier even more impressed with her. None of the boys dare to call him anything but Vesemir or Sir, even when he's not around. - "I've been expecting this," Jaskier says, shouldering his bag. The girl laughs and grabs his arm to guide him out of the building and across campus. - "You are cute," she says. "Geralt said so, but I thought that was just because he's so infatuated with you. I'm Ciri, by the way, his younger sister." Infatuated, huh? Jaskier has just enough brainspace left to save her name. Ciri. They will have to become very good friends. Infatuated.

-It turns out, Vesemir isn't half as scary as the boys made him out to be. He's closer to sixty than fifty, has a stern face, but a kindly voice and the first thing he does after dismissing Ciri with a meaningful glance is offer Jaskier a glass of whiskey. Jaskier sneaks a photograph of the bottle's label when Vesemir stands at the window and glances down at the campus, hands clasped behind his back. Triss will never believe this. It's the sort of alcohol that exists only in myth, at least to college students. "So, Mr. Pankratz. I'm afraid apologies are in order." - "Please, I prefer Jaskier." - "I know," Vesemir says and turns. "I would kindly ask you to delete that picture, my office and its contents fall under the terms of the non-disclosure agreement you signed when entering our brotherhood." Jaskier gulps heavily, the whiskey suddenly sour on his tongue. But he's quick to paste over a smile. He's gotten this far with the mysterious Kaer Morhen fraternity, he can pull all the way through. He deletes the picture. "Good," Vesemir says. "Now down to business." Vesemir gives him two options. Jaskier can consult a local magical artisan and have his memories of Kaer Morhen's true purpose removed. It is an easy procedure, won't cost him anything. Except for his new-found friends and the love he feels for Geralt. Except for the only place he's ever truly felt at home. Jaskier chooses the latter option which is to become the fraternity's chronicler.

-After that, things are supposed to calm down and they do, for a bit. Geralt still dodges any and all attempts Jaskier makes at flirting even though it's evident his resolve is thinning out. Jaskier observes and documents the rituals, begins to collect old notebooks. He's planning to go above and beyond his job and compile a comprehensive history of Kaer Morhen and its members before he's graduated. He may not be able to partake in the rituals or help the guys protect this city from monsters, but he can play his part. Leave behind a legacy.

-Between that and his normal studies, hanging out with his theater group, meeting Triss on alternate weekends and throwing epic frat parties, all of Jaskier's time is consumed. There are several instances in which Geralt and him almost manage to have their coffee, but then they have Eskel on the phone because Lambert and Aiden managed to give themselves poisoning over a simple Endrega job, or Priscilla needs an emergency stand-in for her weekly performances at a local bar, or Jaskier is simply too tired and falls into bed, sleeping over Zoltan's aggressive snoring. Jaskier doesn't mind so much. They catch glimpses of intimacy, Geralt's hand on the small of his back as he guides him downstairs for another ritual, a good night kiss on the cheeks once it's done, a spot of quiet homework-doing in Kaer Morhen's common room together, their legs pressed close under the table. One of these days, Jaskier will find the courage to close the last bridge between them. He just wants to wait until Geralt seems absolutely comfortable with it.

-All is as well as can be until Vesemir comes up with an idea. Because more and more creatures have been getting through and they are unable to hold off all, he wants to capture one of them, an Archgriffin, to bind in their world and act as guardian against lesser creatures. "You're mad," Aiden says. "That's fucking brilliant." - "It's a good idea," Eskel and Coën agree. Lambert keeps exchanging grim glances with Geralt because they both know what this means. They will have to use Jaskier to lure the beast. Which is why they both protest the idea heavily and Geralt gets into a fight with Vesemir. Jaskier is not there for it, but Aiden and Lambert tell him later, once he's back from theatre rehearsal. He watches them fight over it too and then it's only him and Lambert. Jaskier steals one of Zoltan's bottles of spirits and they get stupidly drunk, wandering around campus all night until Eskel collects them and tucks them into bed at Kaer Morhen. "I will not stand to lose you," Lambert slurs, arm dragged over Jaskier's chest. "You're like, almost my best friend. -In the end, Geralt and Lambert are outvoted, not that they can stop Vesemir. Geralt is more silent than usual throughout prep and Jaskier can't seem to cheer him up. He knows his life is likely on the line, but he wants to help so badly. These guys are his family after all. If he can make their lives a little easier by doing this... well, he wants to. He needs to. Being in Kaer Morhen is the first time he seems to have a purpose other than writing angsty teenage songs. Eskel keeps checking up on him. Vesemir writes preliminary excuses for all Jaskier's exams which leave him with only A's, something Priscilla does not appreciate in the slightest. Lambert and Aiden fight and fight and won't stop fighting over this whole affair until Jaskier sits them down and makes them talk. Geralt... remains quiet. Jaskier can tell he doesn't sleep. Can tell he rarely eats. He decides now is as good a time as ever.

-It's the night before and the others have all returned to their dorms, but Jaskier stayed in Kaer Morhen under the pretext of Zoltan having his girlfriend over, and Geralt rarely ever goes home. He has a flat off campus, but Jaskier suspects it's drab and lonely. He gets it. Kaer Morhen has soft fluffly beds and fire places and wards and books. Currently, it has the two of them, bundled up in one of the upstairs rooms. They share an armchair before a low fire, not an unusual sight for them, not anymore. And still, Geralt pretends they're just friends. It's ridiculous. "You know I'll be fine, right?" Jaskier says. He has his head tucked under Geralt's chin and has been humming show tunes under his breath for the last half hour, something that usually puts Geralt right to sleep. Not so now. "I can't know that," Geralt replies. He lifts Jaskier's hand which he's been holding and traces the veins on the back of it with his thumb. "You've no idea how dangerous the ritual is. Even more so with you being an amplifier." - "So protect me." - "I will. I promise, I will." - "Geralt, when are you going to finally give in?" Jaskier sighs and pulls back a little. Geralt stares at him, a little cross-eyed and Jaskier gives a shaky laugh. "I'm going to kiss you now. Pull back if you don't want to, but allow it and I'll never let you go." Geralt allows it, kisses back. It's the first night they indulge in a love that has been growing for almost a year and it's gloriously sweet, blazing, beautiful. It leaves Jaskier with faith that, even if things go sideways, Geralt will get them both out of it alive.

-The ritual goes well thanks to the Witchers' meticulous preparations, the dozen or so warding spells they put on Jaskier and Geralt's reflexes that save him from a swipe of the Griffin's claw. They bind the creature to one of the basement holding cells and celebrate with excessive amoutns of vodka and cake. "All is well that ends well, huh?" Jaskier asks from where he sits on Geralt's lap. Strong arms hold him and his chest is full of nightingales that flutter and sing. He watches Eskel drunkenly dance-offing with Coen in a corner, watches Lambert and Aiden make out in another. Vesemir took off, but Ciri is there, lounging next to them on the couch, nose buried in her phone. "I will never put you through such danger again," Geralt grunts, his nose buried in Jaskier's hair. "Of course, love." Jaskier relaxes into the embrace. All is well, though it is not nearly the end of this story.

-TLDR: Kaer Morhen is an occultist fraternity that keeps supernatural beings away from campus. Jaskier, unable to participate in the actual rituals due to a genetic predisposition, becomes their chronicler. Geralt worries a lot. Jaskier tries for the longest time to get him to go on a coffee date or something. Lambert and Aiden are a disaster couple. Eskel keeps them all together, literally and figuratively. Ciri is the one who got all the brain cells.

Eurovision 2021 Semi-final #1 Review

Strongest Semi-Final ever since I started watching this show. I’m fully prepared to lose faves.

1. The Roop - Discoteque - Lithuania 🇱🇹: Singing “There’ noone here, I feel safe to dance alone” in front of millions of viewers perfectly illustrates our current state of mass surveillance, change my mind. There were no major changes to their performance at the national final (why would there be when the underlying concept got them a record win at Pabandom iš naujo!), but the bigger stage definitely added another (violet/pinkish) dimension to it. I wouldn’t mind at all if the checkered flag background image forshadowed their win this year.

2. Ana Soklič - Amen - Slovenia 🇸🇮: Ana’s performance sucked me in like the black hole on the background screen at the start. Great gestures to enhance a rather static show and the staging, just wow. One half of planet earth on screen reflected on the floor, the big bang bursting beneath her feet at the climax, it was simply a presentation of galactic dimensions. I do wish her pronounciation was clearer, since every time I was tempted to sing along her words seemed to devolve into gibberish in my ears.

3. Manizha - Russian Woman - Russia 🇷🇺: DON’T BE AFRAID, DON’T BE AFRAID, DON’T BE AFRAID! OF MANIZHA TAKING THE WIN!!! Cause that’s where she’s headed for! That. Was. So. MINDBLOWING. It truly exceeded all my expectations. The charisma, the drive, the vocals, holy shit. I was close to bursting out in tears during the folklorish chanting segment. Like, there was just something swelling up in me that’s hard to describe. All while I’m head-banging like crazy. Perfect execution starting with the patchwork fabrics and clay art in the postcard melting my heart. Ana really had bad luck being stuck between two crazy (good) entries lol. 

4. Tusse - Voices - Sweden 🇸🇪: It seemed like Tusse was caught in a permanent state of crouching. Tbh I was warming up to the song, but then the key change happened and I just went nope. I think the song would have benefitted from incorporating the harmonica element at the start more. 

5. Montaigne - Technicolour - Australia 🇦🇺: The dancing condoms from Lena��s 2011 entry for Germany made an unexpected comeback. I feel so bad for Montaigne, especially now that it’s become apparent what a drawback not being able to perform on the real stage really is. Also, that “technicolor” effect every few moments did nothing but harm the entry.

6. Vasil - Here I Stand - North Macedonia 🇲🇰: Vasil seems to like rock-climbing, that interesting to know. It could not, however, prepare me for the disarmingly sincere performance that Vasil gave us. Nothing he’s singing is ground-breaking at all, but it’s the sum of its parts that makes it so special for me. How could I not fall for  someone who’s dedicating a song to his lover in front of all of Europe.

OMG I first thought Nikkie told Montaigne to stay away, instead of awake lmao.

7. Lesley Roy - Maps - Ireland 🇮🇪: I thought Jendrik’s entry was the most kindergarten-y entry this year, but clearly I was wrong. I think Lesley bit off more than she could chew. Poor thing was so visibly nervous I was almost having a nervous breakdown from all the anxious energy she was giving off. Also, was she crying at the end??

8. Elena Tsagrinou - El Diablo - Cyprus 🇨🇾:   Tomboy Elena is not what I expected from the postcard. Hmm, some of the more questionable lyrics (taco, tamale...) suddenly became a lot more difficult to ignore. Still, surprisingly strong vocals for how much Elena is moving around, so major props for that6. Elena Tsagrinou - El Diablo - Cyprus 🇨🇾:   Tomboy Elena is not what I expected from the postcard. 9. TIX - Fallen Angel - Norway 🇳🇴: The song gains another dimension when taking Efentix into account, doesn’t it... For some reason I don’t think this song got elevated by the new stage at all. 

10. Albina - Tick-Tock - Croatia 🇭🇷: I feel like accidently stumbled into a showing of the Starlight Express musical. I think I know what they were going for with the outfits but they made me go more aww than oof. Still fierce. In an endearing way. Which works btw. Also, some nice ideas like turning Albina into a quintuplet and her dancers raising her up above their heads. Damn, her being all excited to be on stage at the end was super cute.

11. Hooverphonic - The Wrong Place - Belgium 🇧🇪: I think I’d have preferred an even darker song if that’s the attire they wanted to go for. In the end I really think they were in the wrong place.

12. Eden Alene - Set Me Free - Israel 🇮🇱: I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an unnecessary outfit change. I really like how Eden went for a warmer tone for the beginning before turning up the sass. I love what she did with her hair. Queen vibes. Also, my favorite dance choreography so far, the guys can get it.

13. ROXEN - Amnesia - Romania 🇷🇴: It really feels like she’s lost herself, including her voice. Okay, that was mean. Dancing while executing such an intricate stage choreography can’t be easy. Still, I think Finland got upstaged when it comes to edge factor. I was not sure, but then the font on screen last-minute basically confirmed it.

14. Efendi - Mata Hari - Azerbaijan 🇦🇿: It’s official, the true successor of “Fuego” has emerged. Elena who? Albina who? Efendi slays them all. All hail the snake goddess from the orient who ensnared millions of men in her pit this very night. Whoever came up with the ring-around-the-rosy circle dance is a god damn genius. So many circle elemnts too like the revolving flower pattern on the floor, the golden pear and the revolving fireball of doom turning into an all-seeing eye at the end. I’m positively hypnotized. 

15. Go_A - SHUM - Ukraine 🇺🇦: Kateryna’s piercing eyes stare right into my soul. Not sure if I’m in the mood for some winter vibes but interesting cyber-druid look. Is that what people mean by technopagans?

16. Destiny - Je Me Casse - Malta 🇲🇹: I’ll definitely add this catchphrase to my dictionary.

Nikkie dragging past Eurovision entires lmaoooo. The audacity. And of course they had to put Duncan’s ass shot into the promotion video I’m diiiieing. I don’t know what a double platinum disc is but I didn’t think someone would get it randomly handed to without pre-announcement.

Aaaand I was right except for Croatia instead of Belgium. Damn, that kinda hurts. But in terms of staging it had the least effective staging among the many bops in this semi-final so it makes sense in retrospect.

rating walpurgis night / gfriend’s latest comeback :)

i’m a new buddy! nothing i say in this post is meant to insult the girls. i love them with all of my heart and i would never try to hate on them or hurt them with my opinions. checking through the comments of the videos, apparently they have sub-unit songs so i’ll make sure to look out for those!

1. MAGO (6/10)

I listened to this song yesterday, so listening to it again might change my opinion. Already, it gives me very disco and like 2016 American pop vibes. Not too into it, but it’s still a decent song. I love the outfits and the choreography is alright. The aesthetic of the M/V was super cool from what I remember and the STRIPPER POLE! LIKE SLAY QUEEN (correct me if this is wrong) YUJU! The bridge of this song was probably my favourite bit of this song but overall it’s pretty good.

2. Love Spell (4/10)

Already not too into the opening of this song. It’s getting better the longer the song goes on, though. It’s different, but not really my kind of song. I don’t have much to say for this song because it’s not getting better or worse for me.

3. Three of Cups (5/10)

Funky opening, I’m lowkey kinda into it. It definitely still gives me a disco vibe, with a part of it that reminds me of their older songs and the sound that they used to associate themselves with. For some reason the pre-chorus and parts of the chorus remind me of Mario haha? Once again, another song that I’m not too into, but it isn’t getting any better or worse.

4. GRWM (7/10)

Loving it already! The beginning is so nice and I’m definitely liking it a bit more than I’ve liked the other songs so far. It’s definitely getting better the more it plays. It’s another song that gives me like 2016-17 American pop vibes, but I really like it. I’m actually kinda surprised that they actual sing ‘let’s get ready with me’ in the chorus, like I thought the whole ‘GRWM’ thing was just one of those random song titles that people throw in sometimes. Overall, I’m really liking this song!

5. Secret Diary (3/10)

Okay, so I heard this one is a Yerin and Sinb sub-unit? I liked the first few seconds but once the verse began, it slightly went downhill for me. Not much to say. Secret Diary is just not really my kind of song, unfortunately. This isn’t anything against Yerin and Sinb, of course, it’s just not my style. Their vocals are on point, like always, of course. The last few lines were nice, though.

6. Better Me (5/10)

So second sub-unit song with Sowon and Umji, I think people are saying. Really liking this song already. The opening was great and I’m still invested in listening to this song throughout the first verse and pre-chorus. Chorus isn’t as great, but it’s not awful. I’m really vibing with this song a lot more. I’m really just liking this song a whole lot better than the others. Better Me and GWRM are both on an equal level for me. Overall, I would definitely listen to this on the bus and sometimes when doing school work, so it’s less likely to be skipped than other songs.

7. Night Drive (3/10)

Last sub-unit song, with Eunha and Yuju. Already just not really enjoying this song, unfortunately. Once again, Night Drive is just not a song that suits the style of music that I enjoy. It’s a very aesthetic and chill song, so I can see myself possibly putting it into my chill study playlist or something in the future, but it’s not a song I would listen to for the enjoyment of it.

8. Apple (9839757398759/10)

Well let’s just not pretend that we all haven’t heard this song before. Apple is absolutely one of my favourite GFRIEND songs of all time and I listen to it all the goddamn time. It’s just SO good in my opinion. The dance is fun, the possible theories behind the M/V are cool and interesting, the outfits are immaculate and AHH I JUST LOVE APPLE SO MUCH! I swear this song will never get old for me. I loved this mature concept for GFRIEND and overall, I loved this comeback. Getting to listen to it again whilst going through this album was a nice surprise :)

9. Crossroads (5/10)

Unfortunately, Crossroads was just another one of those songs that I didn’t vibe with. No matter how many times I listen to it again, it’s still just not that interesting to me. I’m going to sound like a major bitch when I say this but it does sound quite similar to some of their other songs - like in a way, it’s a mix of them. However, despite me enjoying a lot of their other and older songs, I just didn’t really like Crossroads.

10. Labyrinth (10/10)

If I remember correctly, I really enjoyed listening to Labyrinth when I heard it a few months back, but never got round to putting it in my playlist and I eventually just forgot about it! I’m in love with the opening of this song and it’s beat. It’s such a great song and I’m glad I’ve been reminded of its existence because it will definitely be put into my playlist now. Labyrinth does sound a tiny bit similar to some of the other songs, but unlike Crossroads, I feel like Labyrinth just has it’s way of still sounding unique and I just like it a whole lot better.

11. Wheel of the year (5/10)

A small pre-listen commentary, from what I’ve been seeing and hearing, people have been saying that this song sounds a lot like an anime opening or ending - can’t remember which - so I do have high expectations from this song lmao. Beginning of this song reminds me a tiny bit of like the background music of like a semi-emotional scene in like an early 2000s animated film hahaha. I wasn’t too interested in the beginning of this song but it is getting better. It kinda sounds now a little bit like a song you’d hear in Frozen...? It’s an alright song but not something I’d put into my playlist. Was kinda expecting something a bit better, but that doesn’t mean Wheel of the year was a huge disappointment or anything, because it was still good. Jokes on me for going in with such high expectations, I guess lol :)

Final Thoughts: (5.7/10)

Was a little bit disappointed by this album, but the title track and the tracks from earlier in the year were good though.

Overall: 63/110
