CRUSH (ushijima wakatoshi x reader)
Tumblr media
summary: wakatoshi has a crush.
word count: 720
warnings: fem!reader, its all just fluff
tags: @keiva1000
Tumblr media
Ushijima knows he has fans. He might be simple-minded and a little oblivious, but he’s not stupid.
He knows girls stare at him from the balcony during practice. And he can hear their giggling when he passes them in the halls. Tendou often calls him Shiratorizawa’s Golden Boy, which Ushijima wholeheartedly disagrees with, but never voices out loud. Tendou often says strange things. He doesn’t mind.
Ushijima doesn’t understand his popularity. Sure, he is a good player. The best ace in the prefecture. But most of these girls have no understanding of volleyball. So why are they spending hours upon hours in the stands, watching him play?
“They’re not watching the match, Wakatoshi-kun. They are watching you.”
Hm. Strange. His play is very consistent. Watching him do the same thing over and over has to get boring, especially when they aren’t watching for the sake of the game.
But then he sees you for the first time.
You are in his third year English class. In his three years of high school, Ushijima is sure he has never seen you before. Because if he had, there was no way he would forget you.
He is curious. And a little enamored by you.
You are, by all means, a regular girl. You sit on the same chair every day, bring your own bento instead of eating from the cafeteria. It is always wrapped in a pretty multicolored patterned cloth, done up in a knot on top. You have a small stuffed cat chain on the zipper of your backpack. And you wear your hair differently every day. Some days it is tied up, some days it is let down. And some days it is half-up and half-down. You have one pink bunny hairclip that you wear maybe once every two or three days that Ushijima thinks is very cute. Your uniform is always immaculate.
There are so many tiny details about you that Ushijima has learned, and he finally understands why girls would stay hanging over the gym balcony to watch him for hours, because he could watch you for hours too.
You are very smart, he could tell. You always answer correctly when the teacher would call on you, and he has glimpsed at your notes. Simple, but neat and easy to understand, just the way he likes it. There are no crazy colors and highlighters, and your handwriting is neat and beautiful, just like the rest of you.
You are also quiet. You have a select group of friends that you talk to, and while you are nice to anyone who interacts with you, you don't go out of your way to stand out. Again, Ushijima loves that. It seems he loved everything about you. All the minor details that make you a little bit more unique to everyone else.
When you show up at his game, he nearly loses his focus.
It in’t an important game by any means, just a practice match with another local university team. So why are you here? Have your friends dragged you along? Or are you here by your own volition? Ushijima feels how sweaty his palms are when he clenches his fists, and it surprises him.
Is he….. nervous?
Why? Because you are watching? How ridiculous. Ushijima has never once doubted his own strength, or his ability to win. How could your presence alter that? The thought annoys him, and he is determined to prove that you being here would not be a hindrance to his play.
Turns out, he needn't have worried. It seems your presence had sharpened his senses more than ever. Shiratorizawa won in straight sets, and of the 50 points they scored, 39 had been from Ushijima’s hand.
“You were on fire today, Wakatoshi-kun.” Tendou comments as the final whistle rings. Ushijima unintentionally glances at you in the stands, cheering for the team. Cheering for him.
His heart is beating a mile a minute, and he doesn’t think it is because of the game he had just played. He hears Tendou let out a dreamy sigh.
“Ah, the miracles of having a crush.”
He feels his lips tick up in a tiny smile as he throws a towel over his shoulders. Tendou is wrong. Ushijima doesn’t think he has a crush.
He thinks he is in love.

Tutorial: How to Embed Gifs (and get the one you actually want from the set)
There have probably been posts about this before, but since reposting is still a (deeply unfortunate) thing, I figured I'd give this a shot in case it's not a well known trick.
The tumblr Gif tool will allow you to embed gifs directly into your post without saving and re-uploading (reposting) someone else's work.
When you're building your post, just use the yellow GIF icon in the post builder:
Tumblr media
You can search here by tag or keyword. If you happen to know one of the tags used on the original post you're looking for, that can narrow things down:
Tumblr media
To narrow down to a SPECIFIC post, you can also paste the URL into the search field. This will pull up the very first gif in that set:
Tumblr media
If you select that gif, it will pop into your post with a credit and link back to the OP (specifically back to the OPs post with that gif in it):
This is a properly attributed gif embed. The credit on the bottom right points back to the original post:*
Tumblr media
Often, the first gif is not actually the one you want to embed, but there is a way to swap the image out for the one you want without losing the source attribution.
*It's helpful to put some reference text near your initial embed so you're able to swap the right image out later on. For this post, I'm going to use that short block right above the embedded gif as a reference.
In another tab/window, go to the OPs post and find the actual gif you want to embed from their set. Right click the image and Copy Image Address:
Tumblr media
Once you have the URL copied, go back to your post and scroll to the gear icon at the top:
Tumblr media
Open that menu and in the dropdown, where it says Text Editor, swap Rich Text to HTML:
Tumblr media
Your post will turn into a bunch of code once you do this. Don't worry, we will change it back.
For this post, I put reference text above that first embedded gif so I could easily find the URLs I need once it becomes HTML. This is super helpful if you're embedding more than one gif. The reference text is highlighted below. This indicated the block that my currently embedded gif lives in:
Tumblr media
In order to swap the first gif out for one that's later in the set, you just need to replace the SRC gifv and SRCSET gifv URLs with the image address you copied:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once you've pasted the image address into these spots, you can go back to the gear icon and switch the Text Editor back to Rich Text:
Tumblr media
Your post should return to it's previous, glorious state, but instead of the first gif embedded, you should now see the one you actually want from the set. The credit and source attribution back to the OPs post should remain intact on the bottom right:
Tumblr media
This might seem super complicated at first, but it's pretty straightforward once you've tried it, and also a lot less frustrating for gif makers to see this than seeing our stuff just get reposted.
Anyway... If you found the gifs outside of tumblr or you didn't make them yourself, don't save and re-upload (aka. repost) them to tumblr, 'cause someone probably stole them from here to begin with and that's not cool. Search the tags and find the ones you want. Reblog from gif makers. If you want to embed a single gif from a set, try to do it this way, or minimally, credit the person you took it from.

ao3 skin that i made!! (copy code under "keep reading")
it's a messy combination of pieces of code from other people's skins and my own changes
here are some of the skins that i can remember using as part of this, but i've been building it for years so forgive me if i forget some:
Shortening long tag fields by Xparrot (on ao3)
Slim Shaded by AO3 (on ao3)
Lily Garden by tealtiam (on Tumblr)
AO3 Tag category coloring! by ao3css (on Tumblr)
Background color: #26303C
come back here to my tips or leave a comment if you need some help customizing the code!
Text color: #CBC6C3
Header color: #46626D
Accent color: #993F33
steps to create a new skin using this code:
log into ao3 account
go to dashboard >> skins
click "create site skin"
make sure TYPE is "site skin"
add a unique title
copy all code below
paste into field 'CSS'
click on "use wizard" at the top
copy and paste the four colors written above into their corresponding boxes
click SUBMIT
how to customize this skin:
click USE
FONT SIZE: at the very top of the code, change the "90%" to be bigger or smaller to change the font size within a fic
MAIN COLORS: to change the main colors, select "use wizard" when editing the skin and replace any of the four hex codes under "Background color:", "Text color:", "Header color:", and "Accent color:"
SECONDARY COLORS: find all hex codes within the code and change those numbers as you like! i changed all colors to match with the color palette of the header photo that i chose to make it feel cohesive
TAG COLORS: towards the end, the "relationship", "character", and "freeform" tags alternate three colors to make them easy to separate. in this skin they are all very similar, so you can change those to be whatever colors you like!
HEADER PHOTO: find the link towards the end of the code right before the warning tags and replace it with a link to any photo you like! it loops, so you don't have to worry about sizing or anything
FONT: i'm unsure how exactly to do this, but the in-fic font is currently set to Georgia Serif, so i suppose just go find that and replace it with your preferred font!
BORDER STYLES: wherever you see the code "border-style:", replace the word that comes after it with one of these options: none, solid, dashed, dotted, double, groove, ridge, inset, outset, or hidden
WARNING TAGS: at the very end of the code is a list of words or phrases that, when they appear in the tags of a fic, are highlighted in a contrasting color so that they are easy to avoid if necessary. you can add or remove those tags however you like, or change the warning color!
COPY AND PASTE ALL CODE BELOW
#workskin { font-size: 90%; } li.blurb .tags { max-height: 7.5em; overflow-y: auto; } #header { min-height: 0; } #header a, #header fieldset, #header ul.primary, #header ul.primary .current { border: 0; background: 0; } h1 a img { height: 50px; border: 0; } #header .landmark { clear: none; } #header ul.primary { background: rgba(0,0,0,0.65); border-bottom: 1px solid rgba(0,0,0,0.75); } #header ul.primary, #header ul.primary .current, ul.primary.actions a, #header ul.primary .current { color: #CBC6C3; } #header ul.primary .current, #header #search input, #header #search input:focus { background: rgba(0,0,0,0.25); color: #CBC6C3; box-shadow: inset 0 0 3px #131A2A; border-color: #131A2A; } .actions, .actions input { text-transform: lowercase; } blockquote.userstuff { font-family: "Mido", "AUdimat", "Ostrich Sans Rounded","Lucida Grande", sans-serif !important; position: relative; background: rgba(0,0,0,0.1); padding: 2%; border: 1px solid rgba(0,0,0,0.15); box-shadow: 0 0 2px rgba(0,0,0,0.4); } blockquote.userstuff:after { content: "\201D"; right: 0; top: auto; left: auto; } body, .userstuff { font-family: Mido, Georgia, serif; } .heading, .userstuff h3, .userstuff h4 { font-family: "CabinSketch", Georgia,serif; } #main .heading { color: #993F33; } #inner .group, #inner .heading, fieldset, .verbose legend, table, table th, col.name, span.unread, span.replied { outline: none; background: transparent; border-color: #131A2A; border-style: double; box-shadow: none; border-radius: 2em; border-bottom-right-radius: 0; border-top-left-radius: 0; } #inner .group .group .group, col.name { border-style: double; border-color: #CBC6C3; box-shadow: 0 0 2px #000; } #inner .bookmark .user.module, #inner .wrapper { border: 0; border-radius: 0; border-top: 3px double #bbb; box-shadow: none; } .filters { font-size: 90%; } .toggled form, .dynamic form, .secondary, .dropdown { background: #fff url("/images/skins/textures/tiles/white-handmade-paper.jpg"); } a.tag, a.tag:visited, a.tag:link { display: inline-block; padding: 1px 3px; margin: 2px 0px; border: 2px solid #46626D; border-radius: 5px; } .commas li:after { content: ""; } h5.fandoms.heading { color: transparent; } .favorite a.tag { border: none; } .tags li.relationships:nth-of-type(3n+1) a.tag { background-color: #1d3954; } .tags li.relationships:nth-of-type(3n+2) a.tag { background-color: #264663; } .tags li.relationships:nth-of-type(3n+3) a.tag { background-color: #305475; } .tags li.characters:nth-of-type(3n+1) a.tag { background-color: #214154; } .tags li.characters:nth-of-type(3n+2) a.tag { background-color: #294c61; } .tags li.characters:nth-of-type(3n+3) a.tag { background-color: #31576e; } .tags li.freeforms:nth-of-type(3n+1) a.tag { background-color: #234e54; } .tags li.freeforms:nth-of-type(3n+2) a.tag { background-color: #2a585e; } .tags li.freeforms:nth-of-type(3n+3) a.tag { background-color: #316269; } .tags li.freeforms a.tag:hover, .tags li.characters a.tag:hover, .tags li.relationships a.tag:hover { background-color: #26303C; color: white; } #header .logo { display: none; } #header ul.primary { box-shadow: none; padding-top: 30px; padding-bottom: 30px; background: #FCC191 url(https://i.pinimg.com/564x/8c/bc/ae/8cbcae1760dc88ae8730566337a5d2eb.jpg); background-attachment: fixed; } li.blurb a.tag[href*="suicid"], [href*="suicide"], [href*="Suicide"], [href*="rape"], [href*="Rape"], [href*="consentual"], [href*="Consentual"], [href*="non-con"], [href*="consent issues"], [href*="Kidnapping"], [href*="kidnapping"], [href*="Canibalism"], [href*="cannibalism"], [href*="Cannibalism"], [href*="Dove"], [href*="dead dove do not eat"], [href*="murder"], [href*="Murder"], [href*="harm"], [href*="self harm"], [href*="Harm"], [href*="Torture"], [href*="abduction"], [href*="asphyxiation"], [href*="blood"], [href*="Blood"], [href*="death"], [href*="Death"], [href*="gore"], [href*="Gore"], [href*="incest"], [href*="Incest"], [href*="trauma"], [href*="Trauma"], [href*="torture"] { color: #000000; font-weight: bold; background-color: #993F33; }

there is a tree as old as me
rating: teen tags: future fic, outside POV, trespassing, established relationship, engaged steddie💍 ✨for @kallisto-k at my BIRTHDAY MONTH PROMPT FEST for the prompt: To Build A Home—The Cinematic Orchestra: 'and now, it's time to leave and turn to dust // out in the garden where we planted the seeds // there is a tree as old as me
She catches the trespassers by chance, really.
She’s awake early even for her routine, age doing nothing for the capacity to sleep in on a good day but her hip’s been a trial, and she needs buy a new mattress but Richard’s insistent he can’t bear to sleep on a stone slab, Patricia, good god—she wants to get one of those Select Comforts that splits their settings between two sides as a compromise; he argues those are for lesser mortals, which she’s long learned has evolved in recent years to mean not just that he thinks he’s above something in general, but more now that he thinks he’s better than technological advances.
And Patricia Harrington has standards, certainly, but she can also recognize when
She’s also old enough to remember when ‘new’ was an opportunity to throw her Black Card and gloat a little in the rush of the novelty, the momentary shine until the next new thing appeared to repeat the cycle.
She might be feeling her years, but she doesn’t understand when her husband got so damn old.
At least he’s still savvy enough to the time that they’ve got an airtight security system for the house itself, given the trespassers—more likely would-be-burglars, given the evaluation they’d just paid taxes on for the property—that she spies out the window, hears where she cracked the window in the kitchen to light a cigarette as she brews an early coffee.
Maybe Richard will agree to motion sensors for the yard, if she tells him about these…miscreants.
They’re moving carefully, like they don’t want to be seen, or more likely caught—suspicious, obviously—but they’re also moving like the know where they’re headed, as if they’re familiar with the space they’re traversing even in the pitch dark: even more suspect, really, and she wonders if they’ve cased the home, adds full-property camera surveillance to her list of proposals for reevaluating their security.
“I can’t believe you convinced me to—“ she barely catches the hiss from one of the criminals from across the yard, but it doesn’t last.
It doesn’t last because the second party drags the first close and: the lighting’s horrible, the moon’s crescent at best, but there’s really only one thing to be doing when two bodies press close, and then break apart with a pop she makes out on the breeze and, well. She was young, once.
“Believe it, baby,” the second trespasser rumbles low, and, oh, good god: “we gotta hit all the landmarks.”
They’re men. They’re both of them men and they were just—
“Landmarks?” the first one hisses sharper, this time, and Patricia…she doesn’t care nearly as much as Richard does about what people do in their bedrooms that she personally doesn’t agree with.
But this isn’t anyone’s own bedroom. This is her lawn.
“Of our story,” the second one, he—he—has got such curly hair she likely would have assume it was a very tall women, if it weren’t for the voice; “all our highlights.”
“What, exactly, was—“ the first man, he sounds a little exasperated as he whispers, but…fond. Fond like Patricia hasn’t heard in…well.
A very, very long time, at least.
“Here,” the curly haired fiend traipsing her property stops at a redbud tree Richard had always despised, said it looked tacky, common. Patricia canceled every removal service he’d had whichever secretary he instructed to send.
The second man turns, moves slow toward the tree before reaching, placing a hand on the trunk almost carefully, reverently. There’s something…familiar about him. The shape of his face, the way the the coif of his hair catches in shadow—
“My nanny used to tell me this tree was planted the year I was born, that it grew up with me,” and oh, oh, that’s, he’s—“so that I’d have to eat my vegetables and stuff, if I wanted to see it grow.”
He sounds so nostalgic, so soft at the edges; Patricia doesn’t know if she’s ever heard her son sound like that.
Because that’s who it is; why he seemed familiar even at a distance.
Even if she hasn’t seen or heard from Steven in nearly twenty years.
“And look at you both,” the other man, with the curly hair, he’s holding Steven by his arms, and the motion, the body language is…tender even before she hears the words filter over:
“Big and strong,” the man says, and then he’s cupping Steven’s cheek and Steven leans in so quick, like he trusts deeply, here: “fuckin’ beautiful.”
She can’t see it, not in the dark, but something tells her Steven’s smiling for the words. It makes her feel…uncomfortable.
Because it’s not as if they hadn’t seen it; she doesn’t know where Steven’s moved, where he ended up when he moved out while they were gone, left his key and a simple, terse little note about the furnace needing looked at—she only knows he’s nowhere near here, anymore, and she suspects there are some, like the former police chief and his wife, who know where he went but she never asks. She’s too proud for that.
But the point is: Steven doesn’t live in Hawkins anymore, and likely lives nowhere near Hawkins. But when The Post ran the engagement announcement it had only been implied, she’d never have been able to place is, but: when and S. Harrington and E. Munson announced their happy news in print, in a town that didn’t house people by those initials, even if it still housed residents by those family names?
Well. Patricia had suspicions. And she remembers the Munson boy largely because his hair was an unmistakable mess.
Apparently some things didn’t change.
“This,” the Munson boy, because that’s who it is, that’s who’s still cradling her son so close and so gently: “this was the first place I knew you wanted me.”
Steven’s head, she sees, still tilts just so when he’s baffled.
“What?”
“I knew you loved me like I love you, I knew that way before but you,” and the Munson boy, he pulls his hand across his face like the night isn’t doing the hiding for him. Preposterous, really.
“The urchins were inside, we were going to grab more pop to bring in and you pushed me up against this very tree,” and the boy—man, they’re men, they’ve long been men and Patricia doesn’t want to pry up the implications of how she saw no part of the becoming part of that process with her own eyes—but the man’s voice is so warm, so…smitten.
It should be nauseating. Another thing she doesn’t want to pry at is why it…isn’t. At least not quite.
“Couldn’t wait, you said, couldn’t keep you hands off me,” and he’s turning Steven, walking him back against the tree as he speaks the words, like he’s reenacting something nigh-sacred.
“And I knew that I was out of my mind with wanting you like that, on top of loving you more than fucking life baby, but,” and Munson, she can see the way he breathes in his deep for the heave in the line of his back, and she can see the way he…brushes the line of his nose back and forth against Steven’s.
Who still has her father’s nose.
“You were hard as soon as you pinned me,” and Patricia frowns at the glass, when she hears that; and she barely hears is, in fairness, it’s pitched low even as they think they’re alone which is the least they can do but they are not alone and Patrician does not need to be subjected to—
“And it was like a light switch, or a lightning bolt,” the Munson boy—they’re boys they are still boys—but the Munson boy whispers it, and sounds like he’s wondering at it;
“He loves me,” he breathes, the line of his back breathing so deep again; “and he fucking wants me.”
And no, Patricia does not need to hear that at all, but.
There is a part of her, buried somewhere, who…does miss the idea of wanting. Of being wanted. In the abstract.
“You’re absurd,” Steven snorts and oh; oh, she remembers that tone, that testy little snark that always riled Richard enough that he’d largely stomped it out of the boy but oh: Patricia did love when Steven failed to rein it in.
Because it always reminded her that Steven was her son.
She doesn’t intend to start rubbing at her chest, but it…it feels kind of tight, there, just now.
It aches, there. Just now.
“I love you,” and Steven’s voice, she’s never heard him speak with that much feeling, and it’s difficult not to…to react to even just overhearing, to eavesdropping, though in fairness: it is, again, her property.
“And I want you,” Steven leans in, and kisses at Munson’s cheek with such affection, a devotion that’s obvious, near-blinding even in the dark; “just as much now as then,” and then Steven, Steven—
He laughs.
He laughs and it’s such a light and carefree sound and it’s so foreign to Patricia’s ears that it almost makes her anxious, or something of the like.
“But then so much more, baby,” and the warmth in those words: those are foreign too.
Those feel strange to hear, not least in Steven’s voice which…
She thinks she may not have recognized, if the first thing she hear were these words, in this tone.
She’s not wholly sure how to sit with that suspicion.
“Ten days,” the Munson boy’s hands go to Steven’s hips and he rocks them back and forth a bounce in the motion, a levity.
“Ten days,” and Steven…no.
No: she would not have recognized that voice.
She would not have known her son.
“You’re gonna be my husband,” the Munson boy whispers, Patricia only hears because she’s trying to, now, she…she wants to even if it hurts unexpectedly, the tightness under her hand in her chest a pain, now, a small little stab when this man cups her son’s cheeks, cradles him so careful and so…so loving, undeniable even like this, and says what she suspected from that notice in the paper.
Steven is getting married. Steven is getting married and he is proud enough to flaunt it in a town who could never prove it, where he no longer has tied; to a a partner who is proud enough to do the same just as brazen, and she doesn’t know if she’s proud or put-off, but she does know here, now—
Steven is in love. And he is loved deeply in kind. And the person who loves him sounds in awe at the idea of pledging forever not as a contract, but maybe more as a privilege.
She wasn’t paying attention for a strand of seconds as she acknowledged this, and decided ultimately to stop trying to do anything deeper than just that.
But she sees them pull apart; they’d been kissing the entire time she’d been thinking it through.
She isn’t even interested in acknowledging the…niggling little feeling of that kind of prolonged affection, let alone the way they reach for each other, steady each other in the coming apart, as if they have no desire to wholly come apart.
The idea of trusting another pair of hands like it looks as if they do, in the dim of these early hours, is…another foreign thing.
“Okay, okay,” the Munson boy laughs, no, giggles; “let’s get out of here before the owners notice.”
And he turns, would meet her eyes if he could see her; she knows he can’t, knows she’s standing just beyond the capacity to be caught and how absurd, caught inside her own house.
But then he’s turned away again; the house, and whatever it holds, far less compelling than the man at his side.
“Wayne’s place?” Steven’s asking and the Munson boy grabs his hand, lifts it to his mouth.
“Yeah,” the Munson boy says so low, so soft and sweet; “we can hit some more landmarks before that bagel joint he likes opens, we can take him breakfast.”
“More landmarks?” Steven sounds baffled, but so very fond and his partner doesn’t let go of his hand once, reels him in to peck his cheek.
“Of course, sweetheart,” the Munson boy nearly…purrs, how ridiculous; “so many. Because we’ve got one hell of a story.”
But ridiculous or no: the moon shifts out from the clouds as they make to scamper off the lawn and Patricia sees her son’s face for the first time in decades, now, and oh.
Oh: she’s never seen him smile like that. Not…not once.
She turns away, because the sting in her chest burns behind her eyes, a little; because the joy on Steven’s face is…
It feels private; like something she’s not meant to see.
She goes to pour herself the coffee she’d largely forgotten, and, well.
She’s still going to talk to Richard about security, but maybe…
Maybe not just now.

December Creator of the Month: Oh-So-Youre-a-Nerd
Tumblr media
Each month, CFWC highlights one of our talented fanfic writers or artists, and this month’s creator of the month is @oh-so-youre-a-nerd . We're very excited because Ascindio is our very first artist to be highlighted! We hope you will enjoy learning more about them and their work below! The writer is selected at random. More info can be found on the navigation page.
Quick Links:
Tumblr Blog Instagram
How do you want to be known on Tumblr?
Ascindio
More below...
1- When did you start playing Choices? What was the first book you played?
I started playing in 2016, I can't remember if I read Endless Summer or Rules of Engagement first, but I ended up deleting the app after like 2 weeks cause I couldn't stop buying diamonds 😅🤦
I re-downloaded it about, ohh idk 2 years ago?
2- When and why did you join Choices fandom?
I joined the Fandom specifically on Tumblr and specifically for It Lives Within, which happened to come out right after I read the first two books
3- How did you pick your blog name?
I always try to seem cool and mysterious when I meet people irl, and then as soon as I open my mouth, I ruin it with some niche trivia or something, and they say,  “Oh, so you're a nerd.” 😂 Can't tell you how many times this exact phrase has been uttered to me.
4- Pull up the first post in your archive, and tell us about it!
This is the first Choices related post I made 😂 I was just thinking about the concept of what if characters make terrible decisions cause they're controlled by a player who is out of diamonds lol I was going to do a whole series of them (next was going to be lotr “fly on eagles to mordor?” *30 diamonds* or “simply walk”) but got lazy lol
5- Do you write fanfiction, create fan art, or are you one of those really gifted people who do both?
Only art. God, I  WISH  I wrote too. I've thought about trying cause I have so many ideas floating around in my head, but at the end of the day, I'd rather spend my free time drawing.
6- How long have you been creating for Choices and for any other fandoms?
For Choices, since early 2022
For other fandoms, since well, forever, but I only started posting around 2017/18
7- What is your favorite Choices book, and what is your favorite Choices book to create for?
Favorite Choices book is probably It Lives in the Woods. All of the characters were so interesting, I never got bored reading it, and it had an incredible twist that made sense but I still didn't see coming.
Favorite to create for is probably Blades of Light and Shadow though because I am such a sucker for the fantasy aesthetic.
8- Share your first Choices fanfic or fan art that you posted with us. Do you still like it, or would you change it if you were creating it today?.
This isn't the first Choices art I made, but it IS the first I actually shared
And honestly, I DO still like it because I still remember the way I felt absolutely POSSESSED while drawing it (I hadn't drawn anything for *months*). I would definitely change the background, though. Those trees look like shit, and they're not even the correct type for the kind of forest they're in.
9- What is your favorite piece of fiction or art that you created?
My favorite Choices art I've done is probably this piece.
Tumblr media
10- Do you have a fic/art that you didn’t expect to be well received, but it was? What about one you expected to do well but found it could use a little more love?
I definitely didn't expect this one to do well at all as it was so hastily drawn
And I was sad this piece didn't get more love, it was such a dope scene and I was so excited about how the sword turned out
11- If you could only draw one style or type of art for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
I'm not sure if I'm interpreting the question right, but if I had to pick like a specific type of art, it would be digital, and I would want to do fan art. I have a hard time painting anything that I don't already have a deep connection with (so original art with no story behind it is usually a chore for me), and digital art is just so incredibly convenient and not messy and so so versatile.
12 - Do you ever recognize yourself in any of your MCs or in your writing?
Because I use fiction as a way to safely process trauma/ grief/ other big emotions, each MC I make has a small part of me, whichever part I feel the need to explore at the time.
There's an amazing quote by Patrick Rothfuss that I feel explains it perfectly.
It's from Wise Man's Fear
“These folk knew all about death. They killed their own livestock. They died from fevers, falls, or broken bones gone sour. Death was like an unpleasant neighbor. You didn’t talk about him for fear he might hear you and decide to pay a visit.
Except for stories, of course. Tales of poisoned kings and duels and old wars were fine. They dressed death in foreign clothes and sent him far from your door. A chimney fire or the croup cough were terrifying. But Gibea’s trial or the siege of Enfast, those were different. They were like prayers, like charms muttered late at night when you were walking alone in the dark. Stories were like ha’penny amulets you bought from a peddler, just in case.”
13 - What element of writing/art do you struggle with most?
I have a very difficult time making the poses seem natural and flowing. My all time favorite art is Baroque/Renaissance style and how fluid the poses are, how soft the skin looks, how delicately it's all done. Obviously, I will always have my own style, but those are things that I so want to incorporate but never seem to get quite right, and it drives me crazy 😂
14 - Do you have any neglected work you really want to finish?
Not really. I mean, I have a ton of unfinished work, but as soon as the window of inspiration passes, I just can't get myself to care enough about it to finish it (insert Jake the Dog, “now it's gone, and I don't care about it anymore!” )
15 - If someone you know in real life (who isn’t involved in fandoms) asked to see your work, would you let them? If yes, what would you show them first?
I would, and have.  I typically show them whatever most rendered recent picture from my Instagram because I don't post any nsfw there and usually try to post only my prettier work for this specific reason haha. (As opposed to here, I post everything here, ain't NO ONE from real life invited to see my tumblr 😂)
16 - Are there any writers (published authors and/or fanfic writers) who influenced your writing or art? Are there any artists that influence you?
Writers: Brandon Sanderson, for sure. He's the reason I got back into art back in 2017 ish. His stories are just so emotional they push me to create. Same with @saibug1022, there is always at least one scene from every story he shares that I desperately want to draw to try to capture the emotions.
Artists: God, sooo many, here are just like my top 3 favorites and their instagrams.
Audra Auclair
Obsessed with her unique style, and specifically the way she draws eyelids and noses
f3lc4t
The way they draw those dripping, glowing wisps. I stare at their pieces for hours (no lie) trying to dissect them stroke by stroke to figure out how they do it.
Miho Hirano
Their art has a delicate whimsy-ness I would SELL MY SOUL to achieve
17- Which one of your creations would you like to see a fiction written about?
JC, this is the shit I DREAM of.
Definitely this one.
So this is love.
This little comic means a lot to me.
18- Do you write original fiction or create non-fandom art?
Very rarely, but I do, every so often. This is my favorite original piece.
Tumblr media
20-  What other hobbies do you have?
Gaming, singing, walking through the Cemetary with my wee daughter, reading, that's about it 🤷
21 - What’s your favorite emoji?
🙇
22: BONUS - tell us anything you’d like (if you want to).
I really wanted to say that I don't believe in “good” art and “bad” art (just ethical vs non-ethical). That being said, I know what it's like to hate your art, like soooo intimately. If you ever are feeling shit about your art, you can ABSOLUTELY message me (I don't care if we're mutuals or not, I don't care if we've never interacted before) and just say, “I am feeling shit about my art” and I will go through your art and tell you every specific thing I love about it and why it's wonderful. I am not joking; I am so so serious rn. 💗💗💗💗

I've seen some Reddit refugee PSAs going around, so I thought I'd contribute a few tips of my own that I haven't seen covered:
If you go to the original iteration of your post (not any subsequent reblogs, your ORIGINAL post) you can delete any comments you don't like. This does not apply to text added by reblog, only to the message bubble section.
Ublock Origin has trouble figuring out which parts of desktop to get rid of. If you want to delete a certain element (for example, the store widget), and your usual method isn't working, what you want to do is: - Right-click - Inspect Element/Inspect (Q) - Look at the thing that's highlighted, then go all the way up until you hit the nearest "div = class" marker - Right-click - Hover over "Copy," then pick "CSS Selector" - Click your Ublock extension icon - Click the gears - Find a blank space on the list that pops up and type "www.tumblr.com##" without the quotes - Paste whatever you copied with CSS Selector after that, with no space between it and the ## - Click "Apply changes"
You can hide your follower lists and liked lists. This is actively encouraged. Desktop solution: - Account (the person icon in the corner) - Scroll down until you find your blog name and click "Blog Settings" - Scroll through the page that pops up until you find "Share posts you like" and "Share the Tumblrs you're following" and toggle them off. This is the 3rd and 4th section of that page for me, respectively Mobile solution: - Your blog (the person icon in the bottom right corner) - Settings (gear in the top right corner) - Scroll down to "Pages" - Toggle "Likes" and "Following"
Desktop only: Left your Tumblr logged in on someone else's phone/computer? Worried about account security? No problem! - Account (the person icon in the corner) - Settings (NOT Blog Settings. Just Settings. It has a gear icon) - Scroll all the way to the bottom - You have a list of any logins that have happened on your account. They come with the IP addresses used to access it. It tells you where it happened, and from what operating system. Deleting those with the X next to the listing logs that iteration out. If you have any on that list that you DON'T recognize, I recommend logging them out and changing your password. Note: It says the list is only for the past 30 days. This is a lie. I have some that date back over a year.
Desktop only: You can make gradient text in your posts by following these instructions.
If your post has been blowing up and you're sick of the notifications, deleting the original post will delete its notes from your activity. THIS CANNOT BE UNDONE. If you would still like to check on the post, just not have it in your activity, reblog it before deleting it. You can continue to check the notes tab from the reblog while the original is gone.
It is common etiquette to tag spoilers for new games/shows/etc (ie, released in the last two months) as #[insert fandom here] spoilers, sensitive subjects as #[insert sensitive topic] tw, and long posts as #long post. Yes, even if you have a readmore (which you can add by clicking the weird squiggly line when you start a new block).
There is a bug on desktop involving readmore lines. Whenever you go back to edit a post that has a readmore in it, it moves the readmore down by one block. Make sure you move it back into its proper place each time by clicking and dragging.
You can click and drag different blocks of text to reorder them. Only regular blocks, though; not lists like this one. You can also do this with images you've inserted.
Desktop only: You can delete/remove tags/add tags en masse to posts using the Mass Post Editor. - Account (person icon in the corner) - Scroll down to your blog - Mass Post Editor - Select any posts in the grid you want. "Edit tags" is only for removing tags, you need "Add tags" to add more
Desktop only: You can see any blog's history of posts by typing in [blogname].tumblr.com/archive. The page that pops up looks very similar to the Mass Post Editor. You can filter posts on that blog by any of their most used tags, by month, or by post type. This is especially useful for locating pornbots. Some pornbots will try to legitimize their place by picking a random popular tag (for example, #horror) and reblogging the top 10-100 posts in that tag without commentary. See if they've been active for more than week with the archive month filter. Granted, the person may also be a new user, like yourself. It takes some deduction. But it's much easier to use the archive than it is to scroll through all of their posts until you hit the bottom.
Desktop only shortcuts: J = move down one post. Useful for scrolling fast or getting past a notoriously long post (as in "Do you like the color of the sky" and all its cousins) K = move up one post Shift + R = reblog a post. Does not add tags L = like a post C = create a new post (brings up options on what kind of post) . (period) = return to the top of the page Shift + Q = add a post to your queue. Does not add tags Shift + P = cycle through the color palette

Index of Enhanced Edition Con Videos
I'll maintain this index in a pinned post for easy reference. Click the links to go to the YouTube videos, or click here for a more readable Google Docs table which includes these links plus a tab noting which events I skipped, temporarily or permanently, and why.
2007-11-11, Chicago - J2 Breakfast (00:23:42)
2007-11-11, Chicago - Jensen Solo (00:21:55)
2007-11-11, Chicago - Jared Solo (00:29:44)
2007-11-11, Chicago - J2 Main (00:38:24)
2008-07-27, San Diego Comic Con - SPN Panel (00:50:52)
2008-11-16, Chicago - J2 Breakfast (00:26:16)
2008-11-16, Chicago - Jared Solo (00:26:20)
The main panels from CHICON 2008 are up next. They'll have better video quality (for the most part) than the Breakfast panel from that event.
Thank you to everyone who has shown an interest in these videos. The reblogs and likes all made me very happy, and I especially appreciated the kind comments some of you left in your reblog text and tags. I'm unsure of the proper Tumblr way to respond directly to that in a way that won't annoy people, but I've definitely noticed and appreciated it!
An explanation of this project and my tentative plans for it are listed below the break. A lot of it will be familiar if you've read my earlier posts, but it's more detailed -- and excessively long! There's also some info on how you can help, especially if you have any old videos or audio files that you'd be willing to contribute.
Why Do You Call These "Enhanced Editions"?
The videos I'm using are not my own, but I've spent many hours adding enhancements to them. Credit and links to the original videos are in the video descriptions. These are the typical enhancements you'll see:
I'm upscaling the videos as best I can. It isn't remotely perfect, but it's a little more watchable than the originals. I'm not experienced with this and the videos I'm working with are very low quality by today's standards. They were also recorded under difficult circumstances. Video taking wasn't permitted at most of the earlier cons, so the people who took them did so at the risk of getting kicked out. They couldn't exactly come waltzing in with a tripod, so the videos are shaky, they don't always have a clear view of the stage, and sometimes they cut off at unfortunate moments. They can be frustrating to watch, but we owe these people a debt of gratitude for capturing this footage because otherwise it would have been lost altogether.
The original videos are usually in multiple parts, but I'm editing them together into a single video as cohesively as possible. I may use videos from multiple sources to provide the most complete video possible, and I'll select the ones with the highest video quality available. Sometimes there just aren't a lot out there, though.
I'm adding extra content to help clarify references people make during the panels. The videos I've worked with so far don't take up the full width of a modern video frame, so I've taken advantage of that extra space to display the extra content to the side where it's less obtrusive. There are explanations for obscure references that are way funnier when you understand what they mean, plus episode references to help jog the memory for those of us who haven't rewatched the show a million times. In rare cases where I think it will enhance understanding, I'll insert brief episode clips that highlight what they're talking about.
I'm putting a LOT of time into adding good, color-coded English subtitles that can be turned on and off with YouTube's CC button. These videos can be frustrating to understand because the audience often drowns them out and Jared and Jensen tend to talk at the same time when they're together. I can't always figure everything out, but it's far better than the crazy, auto-generated nonsense that many videos have. The color-coding helps with telling who's saying what: red for Jared, blue for Jensen, green for the general audience, yellow for the current fan at the microphone, and white for other people such as staff.
If there's missing footage that I can't find anywhere, then if I can find a source that seems to have reliable details about what was discussed, I'll add still images with a brief summary and a link to my source in the video description.
What Conventions Do You Plan to Enhance?
I don't want to make grand promises that I'll enhance videos for every old convention, although I definitely love the idea of doing so. How far I go with this will depend on how much sustained interest there is from other people and how much spare time I have myself. My output speed will probably be erratic depending on what's going on in my life at the time.
My general plan was to start with the oldest conventions and work my way forward. For now, I only plan to enhance the panels with Jared and/or Jensen since they're my main interest. I may temporarily skip over conventions that they didn't both attend, but with the intent to go back and fill those in later.
One big constraint will be whether I can find enough videos to work with for a convention, and just how bad the quality is. I've found that some videos are too poor of a quality to upscale, at least with my limited skill. Since these videos are painful to watch in their raw form, I suspect people will be less interested in watching "enhanced" videos that don't include at least some noticeable improvement in visual quality, but please do let me know if I'm wrong. For that reason, I'll probably skip past cons if I can't upscale the videos, at least for now.
As I work through the old conventions, I'll make a good attempt to upscale the available videos. If I don't have much success, then I'll skip over that convention with the hope that someday either the technology or my skills will improve, or maybe a more skilled fan will be able to accomplish more with it. If I make it through all the low-hanging fruit, I might come back to those problematic conventions and just create a cohesive edit with special content and subtitles even if I can't substantially improve the video quality.
These are just my general thoughts right now but the project is young, so my strategy may change.
Can I Help?
If you have any old convention videos or audio files that you're willing to contribute, please message me! For now, let's limit it to content from 2010 or older. Maybe I can use them, maybe I can't, but the more I have to work with, the better chance I have of creating something more complete. If I do use your material, I'll credit you in whatever manner you prefer.
My main source of videos has been the Supernatural Wiki convention pages and the playlists that sil9800 has put together on YouTube. If your videos can be found there, and if the links to them still work, then I've probably found them already. There are a lot of dead or private video links on the Wiki though, and also dead links on various LiveJournal pages linked to from the Wiki, so there were more videos out there at one point. (If you have any videos you don't want me to use for this project, let me know and I'll respect your wishes.) I also run keyword searches on YouTube, but I rarely find anything that I hadn't already found from those other sources.
Even if your video looks terrible, you might just have a missing piece of footage that I couldn't find anywhere else, or your video might upscale more easily than another. If nothing else, I might be able to hear something in the audio that will help me fill in a subtitle I couldn't figure out.
Likewise, audio files can be helpful even without video. If nothing else, they may help me fill in some subtitles. If the audio file is consistently easier to understand than the audio on the videos I'm using, I can also substitute the audio from your file in place of the video's audio. If you have audio of sections of the panels for which no known videos exist, that could also help me fill in those gaps.
If you're watching my enhanced videos with the subtitles turned on, please do let me know if you catch any errors or if you can clearly understand something I marked as [inaudible]. I can't change the videos themselves on YouTube, not without breaking the links and causing confusion, but it's pretty easy to update the subtitles because they're a separate file. It's important to me to try not to put words in their mouths that they might not have said, so I'm trying not to guess based on context. However, there were times when I felt like I should have been able to understand what they said but I just couldn't manage it, and I'm sure someone with different ears may be able to figure out some of the parts I couldn't.

Hello Everyone!
Tumblr media
This is a long one, so apologies in advance!
You may notice the Klaine Advent looking a little different this year! As noted in an earlier post, we’re rebranding to the December Klaine Fanworks Challenge!
There are a handful of reasons we’re doing this, but hopefully this little refresh will get people excited about participating all the way to the end. For consistency this year this event will remain attached to the Klaine Advent blog, and we’ll determine after the event whether we need to change that in the future.
So, how are things changing?
There will be still be a daily word (yay!), these are chosen via a random word generator, and are NOT themed in any way. These words will post on this blog every day around 6 am Eastern Standard TIme.
That said! Since it is December, and Glee comes with a Christmas episode every year, and Klaine do have a Christmas duet tradition (more years than not anyway…) we will also be posting a weekly theme! These will be holiday flavored, and we are kicking off this inaugural event with the theme of Christmas Songs. Each weekly themed post will highlight a different song and some selected lyrics.
On to the details!
The Dates. December 1 - December 21
The Words. Every day around 6am, US Eastern Standard Time, a fresh new word will pop out of the queue. This year the words are not alphabetical, and were chosen by a random word generator. The wonderful @caramelcoffeeaddict did all of the artwork again this year!
How to participate. Anyone can contribute, no need to sign up! There will be a single word prompt post each day for 21 days (December 1-21), and a holiday themed post every Friday beginning December 1, with the final themed post dropping December 22. You can write a drabble (or a sentence or a novel, if you like), create an art piece, make fresh gifs based on the prompt - whatever inspires you! This year the tag will be: “december klaine challenge 2023” and please tag with the word of the day so volunteers can ID the posts they need to reblog (please please please make sure all of your contributions are tagged so we can find them!).
Contribute however works best for you. You can do something every day, every 4th day, once a week, altogether at the end, whatever works for you and your schedule. Use all the prompts or pick and choose what speaks to you. Set your own challenges. The only requirements for the Challenge are that it be Klaine centered, and that it references or uses one the word (or theme) prompt in some way.
Volunteers will be reblogging fics to the @todaydreambelieversfic blog, so you can always go scroll the blog to find the latest entries.  Of course everyone (especially the authors!) would be delighted if people reblogged to their own blog - the more people who reblog something the wider the potential viewing audience. We want to encourage everyone to reblog as many fics as they like all throughout the month!!
Partnership. This year again we’ll be partnering with @todaydreambelieversfic.  Authors and other creators for Klaine Advent who would like an additional place to promote their works are welcome to join as members. Just send a private message to @todaydreambelieversfic with your email address and they’ll add you to the blog membership.
Archive of Our Own. We have created a collection on AO3 for those people who don’t post to tumblr, and where those folks who do post to tumblr can share their advent works if you like! The collection will be up this weekend and I'll make another post when that's rolling.
Want to Volunteer? We can always use people to help with the daily reblogs!  If you can spare one or two days please signup here!!
“But what if I don’t write or make art and don’t have time to volunteer?”  You are the most important person in the Advent!! Read the fics, look at the art, let the authors and artists know how much you appreciate their work by reblogging and commenting and liking and all those things creators like. Nothing helps a writer or artist losing steam get motivated more than a nice comment from someone.
I think that covers everything, so if you have any questions or there’s something that’s not clear, please ask!
Happy Writing!!

PDF Readers: What Do You Want? What Do You Need?
Hey all! I promised a series of posts on resources that have helped me during undergrad, and I'm going to start with the basics: how to read your coursework. I'm going to tag a few people who mentioned being interested in this series, but please let me know if you'd like to be untagged!
@anyto @wocinstem @youneedtostudyives @studyblr-perhaps
Now, I'm an English major, so I can't speak on behalf of the sciences, but almost all of my course materials have been given to me in the form of PDFs. I also download almost all my research in PDF format, and when I find books for free online, they're usually PDFs. Clearly, this means I need some easy way to read and edit PDFs. Below the cut, you'll find information on how to choose a PDF reader that's right for you, as well as information on Xodo, my personal favorite reader.
What should you consider when choosing a PDF reader?
Well, first, there's cost. There are all kinds of PDF readers at all kinds of price points. Xodo, my favorite, is free. I've never used the paid version, because for my purposes, the free version is more than enough. Now, let's talk about those purposes.
As an English student, I'm mostly concerned with annotation. I want to be able to mark my documents up, highlight them, write on them, leave comments, all that good stuff. However, what I need might not be what you need. Do you need to sign a lot of documents? Do you need to build PDFs from scratch? Are you more concerned with appearance, or with functionality?
Once you've answered these questions, you'll be able to search online for reviews dealing with the specific kinds of functionality you need.
Why should you use Xodo?
Well, for starters, the free version has more than I will ever need. I can edit, I can annotate, I can sign, I can highlight. I can do pretty much anything my English major heart desires, and I can use my Apple pencil to do it (I'll make another post about ipads and Apple pencils and link it here once it's finished).
Tumblr media
This screenshot shows a lot of my favorite parts of Xodo. I can highlight in different colors (I use green to make information on further reading stand out) and I can write (also in different colors) with my Apple pencil, all while scrolling and navigating with my hand. I don't have to constantly click back and forth between marking and scrolling like I do with some apps, and I can lay my hand on the screen without disturbing anything. This, the ability to confine the text marking to the pencil, is really important to me. I don't like to be constantly clicking around and making accidental marks.
I've also been able to read almost every PDF I've put on here without much trouble. Between the size of my ipad screen (which will be the subject of another post), the high resolution, and the ability to zoom and scroll at the same time, I can read even pretty low-quality PDFs with very little trouble.
You might also notice the little box with the "4" in it in the upper right corner. This indicates the number of tabs I have open because yes, you can have multiple tabs open in Xodo. I've had over ten tabs open at a time, some containing 300+ page documents, and I've never had lagging or glitching problems.
Tumblr media
Here's a selection of other actions Xodo allows. I've never scanned anything to PDF using it, but if the rest of the app is anything to go by, it probably works just fine.
I've had the occasional problem with glitching (maybe once per every five hours of reading I do, if that) which usually just involves a section of the text going black and can be solved by closing and reopening the app. Closing and reopening is no problem, either, because Xodo saves your place.
All this to say, I've used Xodo for a little over a year now, and I have no complaints. I cannot recommend it highly enough, and I'm sure the paid version is even better. That's all for now. Happy reading!

Ship: Edge/Burgerpants (aka Edgepants)
Summary: BP isn't a sweet-piece. He's a janitor. Papyrus picks him anyway.
Explicit version linked above--please read the tags for kinks, etc. Clean version under the cut.
Relevant tags: crack taken seriously, sex work, power imbalance, bad boss MTT, dubcon themes but main pairing is consensual, anti-work BP.
Enjoy.
-
BP grumbled under his breath, scrubbing at a sticky black stain. “Did someone fuck a squid monster?” he groused, “They could have at least put down a towel—hrk!”
Mettaton swept into the room, stepping directly on BP’s back and forcing his face into the stain. Fur bristling and ears folded back, BP sat up to glare at his boss’ back. Mettaton didn’t even notice—he just clapped his hands together to get the gathered ‘pieces’ attention. “Are all my lovelies here? Yes? Marvelous! We have two very important guests on their way over, and I expect everyone to be especially solicitous.” He smirked, chin lifted. “It’s not every day the Captain visits, and this time, she’s bringing her Lieutenant with her. We’ll be sure to show them a good time, won’t we?”
The gathered sweet-pieces nodded. Technically, they weren’t open yet, but they’d make an exception for the Captain. BP ignored the announcement. He wasn’t a sweet-piece—he was just a janitor, and as soon as this stain was gone, he would be too.
A shadow eclipsed the black stain. He looked up to see Mettaton looming over him, hands on his hips and smile frozen. “And what, exactly, are you doing here?”
His tail curled closer to his thigh as he sat up, ears folded against his scalp. He gestured to the stain. “I’m cleaning. You want the place clean, don’t you?”
Mettaton’s head twitched slightly to the side, and he said through gritted denta, “Finish up. We have customers.”
BP’s fur bristled, and he gestured to the stain. “I’m trying! This is oil or something—it’s not coming out!”
“Then cover it up! I don’t want to see it—or you—in here when our guests arrive.”
With that, he spun around and returned his attention to the gathered ‘pieces, fluffing their hair, adjusting their clothes, or dabbing at their make-up. Not that they needed his fussing. Each and every one of them was coiffed and styled to perfection. Make-up and paint highlighted their best features. Chrome was polished, skin was painted, fur was brushed until it shone, and hair was elegantly styled. They dressed in soothing pastels, each like a perfect flower in Mettaton’s garden.
BP stood up and brushed at his dirty apron, trying not to feel self-conscious of his scruffy fur or his well-worn clothing. If they were the flowers, he was certainly a weed. He desperately wanted to go outside and take a smoke break, but Mettaton would throw a fit—and possibly BP himself—if he did that. So, he just grumbled under his breath as he swept out of the room, determined to find a rug or something to cover the stain.
Once he dug a spare rug out of the closet, he hauled it back to the main room, still grumbling and still itching for a smoke. The ‘pieces were busy arranging themselves for selection. They weren’t so crass as to line up; instead, they seated themselves on settees and couches, gathered as if they spent their days having tea and sharing gossip, rather than trying to quell and calm high-LV monsters. It was a pretty illusion they painted, and he couldn’t help but stop and stare.
He knew that life as a sweet-piece was not nearly as soft and sweet as they pretended—he’d seen terrible things in this line of work, seen their pretty faces smashed and broken, seen Mettaton sigh over a pile of dust and haggle with the killer about the price of replacement—but the fantasy was still compelling. After all, at his low LV he was little more than free EXP anyway, and no one would even bother to sigh over his dust or demand compensation when he died. What would it be like to be one of them? To be considered such a compelling beauty that even the most LV laden monster must hesitate to harm you? To be considered worthy of kindness?
“What are you doing here?” Mettaton squawked, “They’re going to be here any moment—and what is that?!”
Ears flat, BP looked down at the rug. “It’s—the stain won’t come out, so I got this to cover it.”
“Are you insane?” he demanded, arms raised, “It clashes!”
BP looked from the rug to the rest of the room. “It’s green, isn’t it? It figured it would match the wallpaper.”
“This is mint green! The wallpaper is clearly seafoam!” BP stared at him blankly, and Mettaton stared back, eyes wide and mouth stretched into a broad, manic grin. “Are you trying to ruin this? Is that what you want? To upset the Captain and thereby upset my patron? Is that what you’re doing?”
BP cringed away as he approached, eyes on Mettaton’s hands. “No! No, I thought—they’re the same, aren’t they? The colors? They look the same to—”
“Are you blind?!”
Sweat dampened his forehead as he looked from the rug to the wall. “I—maybe?”
Fury lit Mettaton’s eyes from within, LED bulbs lighting up one by one. Before he could take hold of BP, though, the little bell rang as the door opened. “—relax, gutter-rat!”
The fury turned to panic, and a metal arm clamped over his shoulders and hugged him to Mettaton’s side. In his ear, he hissed, “Say nothing and pretend you belong here.” Then he turned on his megawatt-smile and spun them both to face the door, steely arm still tight around BP’s shoulder. “Ah, hello! Captain Undyne, Lieutenant Papyrus—such a pleasure to have you both with us today!”
Undyne was a familiar sight, and her good eye swept the room appraisingly. Her grin was sharp as ever, but the twitch of her fingers and the dust on her hands made it plain the LV was riding her hard. Her companion was not nearly so familiar. He held himself preternaturally still beside her, eyelights burning. “Is it?” he asked. The caustic edge in his tone earned him a sharp elbow from his superior.
“Heya, Metts,” Undyne said, and BP felt the hand on his shoulder tighten upon hearing the nickname. “I need to blow off a little steam—” Given the way she drummed her fingers against her thigh, BP thought that might be an understatement. “—and I think my Lieutenant needs some help getting the stick out of his ass.” Her grin was sharkish as she clapped him on the back. “Preferences, gutter-rat?”
He glared, swatting her hand away. “I said I’d escort you here; I didn’t agree to anything else. I’ll wait for you outside.”
Her hand closed over the back of his neck, and BP’s fur raised in sympathy, noting how he stiffened in her hold, eyelights flaring. “You need this just as badly as I do,” she hissed, pulling him close. Her voice was a rough rasp, and his hand curled into a tight fist in response.
“Fuck you,” he snapped, still glaring, “I don’t—”
She shook him a little, holding him so she could look into his eyelights. “Pick someone or I’ll pick for you.”
“Fine!” He slapped her hand away and cast his eyelights around the room. Then he pointed—straight at BP. “Him.”
BP blinked. “I’m not—”
Mettaton’s hand clamped hard on his shoulder. “He’s not on shift.” He gave BP a brittle smile. “He’s not even dressed! Surely you’d prefer…” He cast his eyes on the gathered ‘pieces, who were watching with carefully concealed amusement. “Harriet, perhaps?”
The Lieutenant eyed the rabbit monster. “Harrie,” he said, and she offered a sardonic smile and a respectful nod. “How are your kits?”
“Just fine, Lieutenant. Your brother’s well?”
He scowled. “I believe you’d have more cause to know than I would.”
She giggled. “Send him my love.”
He huffed, arms crossed as he turned his attention back to Mettaton. “The cat will suit. Let him change, if it matters so much. Or—” He noticed that Undyne’s attention had shifted to one of the sweet-pieces, no longer focused on him. “—I can simply go. I have no need of—”
“Absolutely not! I wouldn’t dream of sending you away unsated, darling. Though...” He stepped forward, sweeping his gaze over the young Lieutenant and circling him slowly. “…if it’s a rougher touch you’re after, I’d be happy to provide. I know sweetness doesn’t suit all tastes.” He reached out, and the Lieutenant caught his servo at the wrist, glaring up at him.
“The cat, then. If you insist.” He released his wrist, and Mettaton stood frozen for a moment, unused to rejection.
He turned his head to glance back at BP, and he tried not to cower; Mettaton could not express his aggravation on a customer, but he could certainly vent it on his beleaguered janitor. “Oh, I do. We’ll get him prepared, and I assure you—he’ll be more than satisfactory.” BP’s ears drooped, and he glanced at the guardsmen, only to find himself locking gazes with him. His eyelights burned in his skull like embers in a void.
BP swallowed hard, wishing he’d called in sick today.
-
While their guests were shown to their rooms, a strong hand clamped over the nape of BP’s neck, and he was force-marched to the staff showers. Before he could protest or even think to respond, he was shoved—still clothed—under the spray of cold water, face pressed to the tile.
The hand tightened, and he couldn’t hold back a whimper. “Listen here,” Mettaton hissed, “you are going to do whatever he asks of you, and you are going to do it with a smile—and without any of your back talk, do you understand?”
“I wouldn’t—”
He was shoved more forcibly into the tile. “Do. You. Understand,” Mettaton bit out. He nodded frantically, not daring to speak. “Good,” he purred, and the hand loosened. “Get cleaned up. I don’t need you servicing a customer smelling like that.”
BP nearly asked what he meant by that, but feared Mettaton would take that as license to strip and scrub him down himself. So, he just nodded, Mettaton turned away, still frowning, but BP had to ask, “Uh, what am I supposed to wear?” His now wet coveralls and utility apron didn’t seem suitable. Unless the Lieutenant was into a very specific sort of role-play.
“I’ll find something for you,” Mettaton said dismissively. “Though where I can’t imagine—orange clashes with everything.”
On that note, he left, and BP looked down at the striped orange fur on his arm. “It doesn’t clash with everything,” he mumbled. He began his desultory scrubbing, ears drooping and the tip of his tail twitching. He barely managed to rinse the soap out of his fur before he was being rushed out of the shower and into the dressing room.
He flushed under Mettaton’s scrutiny, yelping when one of the older ‘pieces pulled the towel out of his hands and started vigorously drying him off. “Hey—!”
“Nothing I haven’t seen before,” they said, looking up at him with disinterest. Their features were heavily scarred—they’d been retired from work in the front of house after an incident a few years back. They still had a stable of loyal clients willing to overlook their scars, though, so Mettaton kept them sweet. “The Lieutenant picked you?”
BP glanced at Mettaton, not sure if he was going to be yelled at for talking back, but he was busy picking out a robe. “Uh, yeah. I guess.”
The older ‘piece nodded to themself. “Hmm.” They glanced at BP again, and the fur along his spine lifted when he detected a hint of pity in their gaze. “Mind yourself with that one. He’s going to be a difficult client. His LV’s riding him, and he didn’t come here willingly. Worse, he’s got a reputation for being uptight. Monsters like him….” They shook their head. “They don’t relax; they snap. Don’t provoke him. Do what he says. And remember—” They glanced at Mettaton, then lowered their voice. “—no one is looking out for you but you.”
BP stared at him. “Thanks for the pep talk.”
They tossed the towel over his head and ran it over his scalp and cheeks. “And for stars’ sake, keep your tongue in your head.”
Mettaton made a pleased exclamation and rushed over at that moment, dove-grey robe in hand. Blue, yellow, and black flowers and accents swirled over its surface. “Perfect!” he said, rushing BP into it.
At the end of their fussing, BP caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror. If he’d hoped, for a moment, that he’d look different—better, sweeter—after their makeover, then he was doomed to disappointment. He looked the same as ever, just less comfortable and maybe a little cleaner.
Mettaton picked an orange strand of fur off the front of his robe with a loud sigh. “This will need cleaning after. But it will work! He’s clearly nearsighted in any case, if he thought you were a sweet-piece.”
The scarred ‘piece gently pushed a tray into BP’s hands. “Good luck,” they said, steering him toward the stairwell. “First door on the left.”
“And don’t forget, darling,” Mettaton said. “If he seems at all dissatisfied, then I’ll fashion a robe from your skin. Am I clear?”
BP nodded numbly. The delicate cups rattled against their saucers as he climbed up the steps. He fumbled at the door, trying not to spill the tea as he opened it. He nearly tripped over himself as he entered the room, fur lifting when the Lieutenant looked up at him. He froze and forced an awkward smile, tail curling close to his thigh.
How did the real sweet-pieces manage to do this silently? Gracefully, even.
He cleared his throat and set the tray on the table, causing more rattling. The guardsman ignored him, looking back to the book he’d been reading.
Who brings a book to a sweet-piece parlor?
BP stood awkwardly in front of the table, tugging at the front of his robe. The guardsman ignored him, still lounging on the chaise and…reading. “Um.” His fingers twitched over the robe’s edge. Stars, he wanted a cigarette. “So….”
The Lieutenant sighed, sticking a thumb in his book to mark his place. He looked up at BP, leaning back in the chaise and surveying him. His brow-bone lifted, and he snorted softly. “I’m impressed. In only fifteen minutes, Mettaton managed to turn a janitor into…something that looks almost like a sweet-piece. He should incorporate that into one of his gameshows.” He turned back to his book. “I hope you have some way to entertain yourself for however long we’re stuck here.”
BP stared. “You…you knew?”
The brow-bone crept higher. “Of course I knew. I’m not blind.” He looked back to his book. “If I wanted a sweet-piece, I’d have asked for a sweet-piece. I picked you so Undyne and the android would leave me alone.”
The insult was too much. “So you dragged me into this because you were—what? Annoyed? You’re having a bad day, so I have to be stripped naked, insulted, humiliated, and-and threatened? Is that what’s happening here? Do I have that right?” His breathing was unsteady after the tirade, and for a few blissful moments, he had the satisfaction of glaring down at the guardsman, who stared back with wide sockets.
Then, like a rubberband snapping back after being stretched too far, his righteous indignation crumbled into panic. The Lieutenant’s shock was quickly hidden behind an indifferent mask, and he closed the book, setting it aside. BP’s heart started to race and his mouth went dry. Oh, stars. “Wait,” he said, forcing a smile even as his tail bristled, “I didn’t mean….” His voice was tight. It sounded like he’d breathed in a lungful of helium.
The Lieutenant stood, stepping around the table to stand in front of BP. Stars he was tall. BP swallowed, looking up at him. “Just-just a joke,” he tried, voice still strained, “Haha? Just…” He swallowed, glancing back at the door. If he ran, how long would he have before Mettaton went searching for him? And how long would he have to hide before he lost interest in finding him?
“My apologies.”
BP blinked, sure he’d misheard. “I’m—what?”
“I chose you because I didn’t want a sweet-piece,” he reiterated. There seemed to be a weight in his words, as if there was more behind them, but he didn’t elaborate. Instead, he huffed and looked away. “I didn’t mean to insult you, only to reassure you that I don’t expect anything from you.” He gestured to the door. “You can go. Tell your boss I changed my mind—”
“No!” BP’s eyes went wide, and his fur puffed. He glanced back at the door, sure Mettaton was going to come through it and skin him on the spot. Then he saw the Lieutenant’s brow-bone lift again, and he forced a smile, trying to smooth down his fur. “I mean….” He swallowed. “Do you want tea? They had me bring tea.”
The guard stared at him for a long moment, then he cocked his head slightly. He gave a subtle nod and gestured to the tray. “Tea would be fine.”
“Great!” He sat in front of the table, on the cushion provided. For a moment, the Lieutenant just watched him, looming at his back. BP’s fingers shook as he poured the tea, causing the cups to rattle in their saucers once more.
The guard walked around the table, sitting on the chaise again. He didn’t pick up his book. “What would you have done,” he asked, leaning forward, “if I really thought you were a sweet-piece?”
BP froze, looking down at the murky green liquid swirling in his cup. “Uh. You know. Sweet-piece stuff.”
Again, he lifted a brow. “I imagine you’re relieved that I don’t expect that of you.”
BP shrugged. “Sure.”
The guard tilted his head. “’Sure’?” he echoed.
“Well—I mean. You’re not exactly hard to look at,” he said, “and sweet-pieces….” He stopped.
“What about them?”
He shrugged. “People’re usually nice to ‘em. That’s all. It’s the point, isn’t it? They’re so sweet, you gotta be sweet back. I mean—I know that’s not how it always works out. Believe me, I’ve seen some shit.” The guardsman nodded, and BP had to imagine he’d seen just as bad, if not worse. “But…the Captain wouldn’t bring you here, if you were like that.”
BP rubbed the back of his neck, realizing he’d said too much. “So, yeah. Wouldn’t have minded being your sweet-piece for a day.” He laughed, wishing again for a cigarette. “Beats trying to get oil stains outta the carpet!”
“Baking soda.”
BP blinked. “Uh…huh?”
“Baking soda. Use a toothbrush to work it into the carpet, let it sit for fifteen minutes, then vacuum it up. So long as the stain hasn’t set, it should help.” BP stared at him for a beat, unsure how to react to that. “Maybe you should be a sweet-piece; janitorial work doesn’t seem to be your forte.”
BP snorted. “It’s a good gig, if you can get it. Too bad I don’t qualify anymore.” Any amount of LV was too much for a sweet-piece, even his low level.
The guardsman leaned forward, hands cupped around his tea. “I never really considered that some monsters would seek out this line of work,” he said softly, eyelights down. “I’ve mostly seen the less savory side of the trade. Not everyone comes to it willingly.”
BP understood all at once why he’d been so resistant before. “Hey, uh, I got my problems with the boss, but everyone here came here willingly. I mean—as willing as anyone can be. Cleaning the floors isn’t exactly how I’d choose to spend my free time, you know?” He laughed, but the Lieutenant looked away, brow-bones furrowed. His job entailed a good deal worse than cleaning floors, and he probably didn’t need the reminder.
BP cleared his throat, searching for a change of subject. “So. What would you have wanted from me, if I were a sweet-piece?”
The Lieutenant choked on his tea. “I—” He shook his head and cleared his throat. “Nothing. I don’t use—I have no need of a sweet-piece and no desire for one either.”
“So you’re going to read and I’m just going to sit here and twiddle my thumbs until the Captain’s done getting her rocks off?”
A faint flush of red magic touched his cheekbones as he glared. “If you don’t think you can carry a conversation, then yes. And I don’t pretend to know what Undyne is doing—nor do I wish to.”
BP shrugged. “Okay, okay. You just seem a little tense—”
“I am not tense!”
BP couldn’t hold back a snort, though when the guard’s expression darkened, he swallowed and reminded himself it was unwise to mock a high LV monster. “Right! Of course not.”
On cue, the teacup shattered in the Lieutenant’s grip. Before BP could react, he swore and stood, bits of porcelain cupped in his dripping phalanges. He dumped them in the trash can, glaring at his hands as if they’d betrayed him. “You, uh, you want a towel or something?” In answer, he held out his hand, open and expectant. BP grabbed a cloth napkin off the tray and scrambled to stand. “Here.”
He wiped the tea from his fingers, watching BP out of the corner of his socket as he did. When he was finished, he held the napkin out for BP—but instead of releasing it when he took it in hand, the Lieutenant used it as leverage to pull him closer and catch his eye.
Staring into his sockets immediately made BP’s hackles rise. He swallowed but held his ground. He didn’t back away, even when a skeletal hand lifted slowly to hover beside his face. He had plenty of time to pull away but held still as a bony thumb stroked over his jawline. His heart beat hard, and he wondered if the guard could hear it. “You know my name?” the Lieutenant asked.
 “Papyrus.”
“So you know who I am. What I’ve done.”
He swallowed and nodded. “I—yeah. I know.” Everyone had heard the stories. Papyrus was not as infamous as Undyne, but as he’d risen through the ranks, people started to whisper. And when he successfully took control of the infamously uncontrollable denizens of Snowdin, those whispers grew louder.
“And still you offer yourself to me?”
Fuck. Something in the way he phrased that—his words archaic and weighty—sent a bolt through BP, making his knees feel loose and his breathing go thready. In that moment, it was impossible to separate fear from desire. “I—yes?”
The Lieutenant snorted, drawing his hand away and leaving BP holding the napkin. He returned to the chaise, his back to BP. “Most people would rather not attract my attention. But you….” He glanced over his shoulder, then shook his head again before taking his seat. He swept his gaze up and down BP’s body, and BP stood rigid, breath held. Finally, his gaze rested on BP’s face. “Alright, kitten. It’s your choice. Either sit and pour the tea, keep quiet while I read, or come here and be my sweet-piece for the day.”
BP stood frozen for a few moments. Some part of him was silently screaming at him to sit quietly and just enjoy the break, but the Lieutenant made an arresting sight. He lounged against the chaise, feet planted firmly on the ground. His features were set and stony, his eyelights hard. There was nothing welcoming in his pose. Rather, it looked like he was daring BP to approach, confident he didn’t have the nerve.
Something in him stirred at the perceived challenge.
With a subtle smirk—as if he’d won, somehow—the Lieutenant turned to pick up his book and resume reading. No longer speared by his gaze, BP was free to move. It made sense to just sit down and pour the tea, but nothing about this day was normal or sensible, and BP’s feet carried him past the table, until he stood between the Lieutenant’s spread thighs.
The guardsman looked up from his book, cocking his brow-bone again. Never taking his eyelights off BP, he shut it once more and set it aside. He brought his hand to BP’s waist, just above the hip, and BP’s heart started beating faster.
-
After, when they’d been drawn from the room and the Captain and her Lieutenant were taking their leave—and BP was curling in on himself as he grew conscious of Mettaton’s eyes on him, of the cruel smile forming on his glossa—Papyrus paused to pass him a few pieces of gold. BP looked up at him. “Um.” He looked to Mettaton, but his smile had frozen and he was staring at the Lieutenant.
“For your service,” he said, closing BP’s hand over the G. “I believe a tip is appropriate?” He glanced at Mettaton. His expression was mild, even as it dared Mettaton to contradict him.
“I…” He didn’t look at his boss. Instead, he kept his eyes on Papyrus. “Yeah. If you think…think I earned it.”
“I do,” he said calmly. Then pulling away, he looked to Mettaton to say, “I trust he’ll he available next time we visit.”
Mettaton’s frozen smile shifted into his megawatt grin, though BP could see the strain around his eyes. “Of course, darling! Anytime! Though if you would prefer someone more experienced—”
“No. Thank you. I rather like his inexperience,” he said, “It’s…refreshing. Now, if you’ll excuse me.” He offered them both a nod and departed.
BP tensed as soon as the door closed, but Mettaton just sighed. “It’s a shame,” he said, “You’d think such an attractive monster would have better taste.” He eyed BP, then shook his head in disgust. “Whatever. You’re on call from now on,” he said, “So keep your phone on you when you’re off duty.” He gestured to the carpet. “Now get rid of that.”
He left and BP stood frozen for a moment. It felt, somehow, as if everything and nothing had changed. Then he turned and went to fetch the baking soda and a toothbrush.
It was probably too late to do any good, but it was worth a try.

Inspired by your Drarry fic recs and your amazing Flintwood fic, do you have any Flintwood recs or personal favorites?
ah! fantastic ask, anon! flintwood was, incidentally, my earliest hp ship & maintains a soft spot after all these years. their functions in canon (quidditch captains of rival houses, pinnacles of a certain kind of obsessive, single-minded, aggressive athletic masculinity) conduce some of the most raw and gritty characterisations— kind of like if tracing your tongue along the jagged, broken end of a tooth was a ship. flintwood encapsulates a very specific kind of mood— a foregrounded physicality, a delicious emotional dimension balancing both subtlety and brashness. this ship is especially delightful when you're in the mood for some deferred emotional payoff, a little out of reach and more satisfying for it.
(tw for some discussions of queerphobia & masculinity!)
flintwood also works with and subverts some common stereotypes & tropes associated with sports as a site of exalted & amplified masculinity. oliver and marcus are both, in fic, often representations of what a popular (largely homophobic & patriarchal) culture understands as 'masculine ideal stereotypes'— physically hulking, emotionally repressed, narrow-focused, a little dangerous. and flintwood, as a ship, is crucially also about these 'ideal men' making the choice to step away from the hallowed halls of homosociality towards explicit queer desire, dynamics and love.
i'm getting into this because a large selection of flintwood fics i've loved deal (overtly or covertly) with coming to terms with queer awakenings, reckoning with being queer men in sports and similar explorations. my flintwood fic (thank you for reading it, anon!), addictive tendencies (~4k, T, tw for internalised homophobia) also grapples with this fairly significantly. in fact, even when the central tension isn’t explicitly about a queer reckoning, and the worldbuilding has little/no queerphobia, many excellent flintwood fics have some of the themes, ideas and tropes you find in literature accounting for our society’s (often disparaging) attitude towards queerness: a desire both intense and grudging, a sense of “i can’t have this person” justified through rivalry and/or jealousy, poignant internal conflicts, etc.
anyway, enough talk, here's a selection of flintwood fics i've dearly enjoyed, hope you do too! mind the tags & notes & remember to send some love the authors' way :)

To new tumblr users:
please turn on custom blog theme in your settings. custom blog theme is something that is actually so wonderful about having a tumblr, and we need to show @staff how important of a feature this is to this site.
Propaganda:
Having a custom blog theme gives you a yourURL dot tumblr dot com site. Having your very own website is cool as fuck.
Having your own site makes it much easier to search and view your blog, and use tags to sort posts.
Another fun thing that you can do is create custom side pages for your blog with useful static information, like an about page or a tags page.
show off your personality and interests with a cool site. organise your posts to find them later, and to give your followers the ability to view all the posts on your blog with a specific tag, like a tag for your writing or your art. This can be done by providing a link to a specific tag that looks like this: yourURL dot tumblr dot com/tagged/myCoolTag
You can have a cool site, even if you don't know how to do web code, I promise. Here's how your turn this feature on:
go to the little person icon in your top ribbon (circled in red):
Tumblr media
2. in the resulting pop up, scroll down to "blogs" < yourBlog (highlighted in red):
Tumblr media
3. click on "blog settings". This will take you to a new page. (highlighted in red)
Tumblr media
4. on this new page, scroll down to "custom theme" and flip the toggle switch to on. (circled in red)
Tumblr media
5. now click that "edit theme" button. This will take you to a new page that will look something like this:
Tumblr media
depending on what theme you end up using, the options in the white sidebar will be different. For now, that's not what we're actually interested in though!
6. to get started with your theme, click the edit HTML button.
Tumblr media
7. This pops open a thing with the code from your blog. This is where you can edit or paste code into to customize your blog. This is where the fun starts!
Tumblr media
If you know code, you can write code yourself, but I'm going to just assume that you don't know enough code to write a tumblr theme. Fortunately for you, there are lots of people out here on tumblr dot com that do know how to write code and make tumblr themes and do this AND make these themes publicly available for anyone to use.
8. Where do I find this, you might ask? Great question! A good place to start is Theme Hunter, which is a blog where they share lots of independent theme creators themes. Typically when you use someone's theme, you should reblog their post about it, as this is often a term of use. Theme hunter is nice because they are really organized so you can find some nice categories to start you theme hunt in their "more" drop down:
Tumblr media
you'll notice that they also have pages about how to install tumblr themes. The "page themes" section is for side page themes. We'll get to that in little bit, but for now what you want is the "Tumblr themes" Most themes will have a set of easy to use customization options for stuff like background colors, font sizes, sidebar images, links, accent colors, etc. Most theme posts will have an example or "live preview" of the theme in question so you can play around with it and see if you like all of the features. Remember that you can change all of the colors and the font sizes if you like.
9. Once you find a theme you like, click on the "code" link in the post which typically takes you to a pastebin page with the code of the theme.
Tumblr media
10. click "raw" in the top ribbon, which takes you to a new page that has nothing but the code on it. (highlighted in red)
Tumblr media
the new page will look something like this:
Tumblr media
11. click anywhere in this page, and hit ctrl + a (on windows) or command + a (on mac) this selects all of the code. Now hit ctrl + c (windows) or command + c (mac). This copies all of the code to your clipboard.
12. Now go back to the theme editing page for you blog and click anywhere in the code box. hit ctrl + a (windows) or command + a (mac) to select all of the text in the code window. hit backspace (windows) or delete (mac) to erase the text.
13. now that your code window is empty, click in it again. Hit ctrl + v (windows) or command + v (mac), which should paste all of that code that you copied before into the code window.
14. Now hit "update preview" (highlighted in red)
Tumblr media
this will update the preview of your blog so that you can now see it with the theme! It may not look quite right yet, but that's because you haven't set up all the customization options yet! Note that until you hit "save" the theme does not become live on your site.
15. hit "save" then hit the back arrow on the code window next to the gear symbol.
16. Now for the fun part! Customizing! Scroll down In the little sidebar to the section called "theme options." This is where you'll get to select stuff like colors, sidebar images and fonts. Sometimes, things still won't look right in the preview, but once you go to your page, you can see what it actually looks like. I recommend having a copy of your blog page open in another tab that you can refresh every time you hit "save" while customizing your theme, to make sure that things look right.
Tadah! you have a new cool website. share the news with your followers.
If you want to get into learning how to make your own themes, check out buildthemes or buildatheme or theme-hunter's tuts page. To learn about web code in general you can sign up for an account through codeacademy or dash general assembly or W3Schools or html dog

here you will be greeted to a blank text post. there's a space for a title and text. if you don't want a big title, you can just backspace and it'll default to regular text. feel free to experiment a little here. the colorful icons to the right allow you to insert photos, gifs, links, and more. if you type something and highlight the text, you'll find even more options!
Tumblr media
enter whatever you'd like to greet people with if they visit your blog. some sort of introduction. i threw out some random basics here. you certainly don't have to format it like this! get crazy, insert some photos and use colored text if you like. at the bottom of your post, you'll see a section for tags. i recommend using tags relevant to whatever content you'll be posting, so others can find your blog easier. if you're on ao3 or another fanfic platform, i'll show you how to link that to your intro post! for now, just type something like "link to my fanfiction" or "link to my ao3", or whatever tickles your fancy.
Tumblr media
then, highlight whatever part of the line you want to serve as your hyperlink. in this case, in the "link to my fanfiction" line, i highlighted "fanfiction". a small menu should automatically pop up above that. the second to last option looks like a chain link. that will allow you to insert a link on whatever you've highlighted. click on it.
Tumblr media
an "http://" option will display. paste your desired link in the display bubble! for instance, i pasted the link to my ao3 dashboard.
Tumblr media
next part is posting! don't worry, your intro post isn't done, i know. in order to move on, we need to make some more posts to link, so for now, we're just going to post this "incomplete" intro. you can always go back and edit posts, so it's no worry! the post button is at the bottom right.
Tumblr media
in order to ensure the post stays at the top of your profile, you need to pin it. (i used a random post in my example because my intro is already pinned, but the mechanics are the same.) in the top right of your intro post, there will be three little meatball dots. click on those.
Tumblr media
that'll open up a dropdown. click on "pin". then your intro will always remain at the top of your profile, even as you keep posting/reblogging.
Tumblr media
next part is making the actual masterlist! create a new post (button on the bottom left --> text post) and fill it out however you wish! i listed some different things you can include to describe your stories, but i've seen people organize these by characters instead, or themes, or fandoms. basically, you're creating something that will link from your intro to this post. so write up whatever you want someone to be brought to after clicking the hypothetical "my fanfiction masterlist" link in your intro post. if that's just at temporary list of characters without any stories linked to them yet, that works! you can link stories to the masterlist later.
Tumblr media
once you posted the masterlist (it's okay if it's incomplete), click on the meatballs for the masterlist post. (again, i'm using a random post here, disregard that)
Tumblr media
click on the "copy link" option to obtain the link to that post.
Tumblr media
then, find your intro post and click on the meatballs for that!
Tumblr media
this time, you're going to click on "edit".
Tumblr media
somewhere on your intro post, write up some text that will serve as the source for your fanfiction masterlist post. for this, i used "link to my fanfiction masterlist". then, i highlighted "fanfiction masterlist" to open the additional options menu, and clicked on the chain link to paste the link to my new fanfiction masterlist post! this process of copying links and implementing them into other posts is the foundation of making a masterlist. from here, you can make as many subcategories as you please and link them back to your main masterlist, which is linked to your intro. (or you can just make a few giant masterlists like i do XD)
Tumblr media
BONUS LESSON: another fun part of tumblr is the tags! you can invent your own! if you're a writer, you can make your own writing tag. i use "genwrites" because it hasn't been used by anyone else, so anyone who clicks on that tag will only see posts of my writing. you can link tags to your intro post as well! i'll show you how.
Tumblr media
creating a tag is as easy as slapping it on a post, even if tumblr doesn't seem to recognize it. that's a good sign. once you've posted something with the tag, it exists on the website. when you click on the tag, it should open up a page like this. it's alright if your tag page is mostly empty, it'll fill up as you create posts with your unique tag! from here, you're going to copy the URL of the entire page.
Tumblr media
then, the same way you inserted your fanfiction website and your masterlist, you can link the URL of your tag page to your introduction post! linking things to posts on tumblr helps keep everything connected. you can link individual fanfics from their source site to titles on tumblr, link specific reference posts and analyses, and so much more!
Tumblr media
this was a rather lengthy post, so it's totally understandable if you get confused or lost along the way. feel free to reach out and i'll try to help out however i can! i'm no master - i learned all this stuff by trial and error. takes some patience , but i hope this guide is at least a little helpful! ♥ happy writing and creating folks ♥

🛼 🥤 🍄 📚 🌿 🪲 🐝
for that ask game^ you don’t have to do all of them this is simply a curated selection by yours truly
🛼 ⇢ describe your latest wip with five emojis
i mean, you have classified knowledge on which one i last worked on but here ya go: ☕️👀😇👋🤡
🥤 ⇢ recommend an author or fanfic you love
been reading a few fics from Inquillitory (Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone is a good angst read and i’ve been following It Hurts To Hope for a few chappies now)—can i recommend your own writing on an ask you sent in?? ksdljf;lsfsdlkj people who are not melon, go check out 1watermelontea they have a fun fantasy au and a co-written mer au with me :)
📚 ⇢ what's the last thing you wrote down in your notes app?
the actual last thing was me reminding myself that i lent a friend a book (ninth house, if anyone’s curious) but the last fic related note i jotted down was written two days ago at like. 3am and it simply reads, “LT inspired au: gem = vanja, pearl = ragne???” (kudos to anyone who catches what i’m referencing)
🌿 ⇢ give some advice on writer's block and low creativity
in my experience, there are two main types of writer’s block, generally: there’s the “your body is rebelling against the idea of creativity bc you haven’t eaten or drank in ten hours or you’ve been criminally overworking yourself,” in which case, the fix is just… a break and self care. then there’s the “brain will not write/generate ideas for seemingly no reason,” which is about 10x more annoying to work around but usually i either table whatever i’m struggling to work on and work on smth else (hence why my google drive is a Monster lmfao), get my brain warmed up by rereading and sometimes editing a finished fic, or doing this trick i learned in english class ages ago and just. writing all my thoughts in a list format until my brain spits out a new idea or decides it’s ready to actually write.
🪲 ⇢ add 50 words to your current wip and share the paragraph here
did. did you just trick me into adding to our wip ksldjfl;sajfs
since the full paragraph is not 50 words (and also bc technically melon wrote the first word lol), y'all get an extra sentence from the next paragraph as well:
"Totally.” Her gaze flickered briefly over to her… imaginary friend? Scar watched as he clamped a hand over his mouth, seemingly concealing an amused smile. Pearl shot him a pointed look before turning to Scar. “What floor are you heading to?”
Scar blinked at her, then upon realizing he hadn’t thought this far ahead in his plan, instinctively blurted out, “Same as you!”
🐝 ⇢ tag your biggest supporter(s) and say one nice thing about them
@1watermelontea hello melon, the answer to this question is just. you. i’m gonna use this as an opportunity to respond to that secret author’s note (for those of you who are not melon/have no idea what note i’m referencing, my dear co-author decided to be sappy in the notes of our fic chasing the horizon line go check it out <33): i’m so touched?? writing with you has been so so much fun and i get so excited whenever i see you’ve added things to our docs and just. chatting with you is always a highlight of my day :D

One Stitch at a Time — An Advent Calendar story by ZeldaElmo
Announcement, posting schedule, and story info for the Advent Calendar 2023
Starting from the 1st of December, I'll publish a modern AU with 24 chapters, posted day by day, to pass the time until Christmas and have fun!
The story is t-rated. It contains minor totk spoilers as it references some characters and some outfits, but otherwise it's spoiler free. The chapters are around 2k words so that reading them daily is doable. The story is set during Christmas time but it's by no means a story with religious connotation, so feel free to tag along even if you don't celebrate. Some chapters contain references to Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice, but most is understandable without having read/watched it.
Kindly beta read despite her packed schedule by @silentprincess17!
One Stitch at a Time
Summary: Zelda is taking over the fabric store from her mother and struggles to balance traditions, new ideas, and financial problems. The last thing she needs in her sewing class is a guy who disagrees with her every word and threatens to ruin her favorite time of the year: Christmas.
Teaser from chapter 2:
Zelda turned on her heel, walking with firm steps toward the stack of fabric she had prepared for the class: A selection of pastel colors for the bodies of the sand seals, some earth-colored woven fabrics for the Koroks, and the occasional patterned cut for highlights.
When she came back, Link angled the pattern in his hands, squinting through the plastic sheet. Then, he raised his hand again. "Ah, Ms. Zelda? This isn't going to work. The sand seal is cute and all, but I really need to sew the dress I mentioned.”
He put the pattern down and pushed it to the corner of his desk. “This was promoted as a sewing class for beginners, no? So it will surely be no problem to guide me through the process of putting a dress together.”
The nerve of this guy! Annoyed, Zelda sucked at the inside of her cheek and set her fabrics down. She was not going to let him ruin her class. If he needed a dress so badly, he surely knew a designer who could help him out and customize what he wanted. He was the one working for CeCe’s after all! Or he could just order one from Beedle’s like everyone else. Three different styles, colors, whatever. All of them size 6. Click, click, delivered. Skies, he could even have them wrapped in tissue paper if he paid a little extra!
She licked her lips and clasped her hands in front of her. "You booked our 'Sew a plushie class'."
I'm excited to share what I've worked on these last two months with you all! Feel free to follow if you're interested!

Silhouette
Relationship: Julian Kaye x GN!Reader Fandom: American Gigolo Rating: M Word count: 2717
Summary: You work for a men's wear store and Julian comes in, looking for a new suit.
Additional tags and warnings: Flirting – Fluff – First meetings – Suggestive Themes
AO3 Link
This is the last thing I'm posting before starting work again. Hopefully, it won't take me too long to find my new rhythm.
Tumblr media
You walk around the racks of formal jackets in the men’s wear store that you’re working at and check that all tags are visible and intact to pass the time. It’s a slow afternoon, and you’re bored out of your mind. Only a handful of people are currently in the store, and all of them have declined your offer to help look for something. Which leaves you with doing what you’re doing at the moment. You hold back a deep sigh and a yawn and look to your colleague at the register, who perks up as she sees a couple nearing her with a suit.
You’re considering checking the inventory, despite knowing that it’s already been taken care of the previous afternoon, since you’d been the one doing it, when someone new walks through the doors. You can’t help staring for a moment as you watch the man stepping towards the most expensive side of the store, his hands skimming over the shoulders of the designer dress shirts. He’s dressed in casual clothes, but they have been carefully selected to highlight each aspect of the man’s body. His pants fit tightly over his hips and his truly deletable behind, while the material flows straighter over his long legs. His shirt hugs his torso and wide shoulders, highlighting the obviously well taken care of body that lies underneath. As you make your way over to him to offer your guidance, you find yourself observing his profile. He has a sharp jawline, a broad but alluring nose, and his lips have an intriguing curve. All of it sits under a mop of soft looking, dark brown hair.
“Good afternoon,” you address him with a bright, professional smile, and have to clench your teeth together, so you don’t make a weird face or sound once the man has turned to face you.
He has lovely, soft, brown eyes that also have a playful glint to them. Those eyes follow your finger as you introduce yourself and point to your name tag on the left side of your chest.
“Welcome to Silhouette. Are you looking for something specific, or should I just let you browse through the store for now?” You’re proud of yourself for keeping your voice steady and professional as always.
The man’s lips curve into a small, friendly smile, while his head slightly inclines to one side as he looks at you.
“I’m good right now, but I might take you up on that offer in a minute.”
“Of course. Just call me if you need anything,” you nod, and point to the section of the store that you take care of.
“Thank you.” The man gives you another charming smile and starts going through the shirt selection.
“You’re welcome.” You take a few steps backwards before turning around and returning to your spot.
A few more people enter the store, effectively getting you back to work as you show them to the requested sections or suggesting a specific piece of clothing when asked for your opinion. You keep throwing quick glances at the man from before, in case he’s looking for you. Hoping that he’s looking for you, if you’re being honest. Your job comes with the benefit of also getting to take care of beautiful men at times, and this man is at the top of the list of best-looking men. It’s particularly because of the natural and effortless charm that surrounds him. He holds himself tall and with confidence, but it’s not boastful or arrogant.
Out of your peripherals, you notice him heading towards the changing rooms, and sigh dejectedly. Looks like he found what he needed without you. With a small twist of disappointment to your lips, you return your focus on the people milling around you in case someone asks for you.
A few minutes later, one of your colleagues from another section walks up to you.
“There’s this hot customer asking for you in the changing rooms,” she says with a wide grin.
Your eyes widen, but you snort at the way your colleague winks at you and her have fun quip.
You quickly make your way to the changing rooms. Because he’s waiting for you, and not because you’re excited that he called for you. Of course not… Right. You find him in the last one, the curtain to the stall fully open, and you have to physically stop yourself from just plain on staring at all the exposed skin. He’s standing with his back to you, sans shirt, and with only a pair of slacks on that seem a tad too big in the legs but sit perfectly on his behind. Your eyes glide over the smooth looking, tan skin and the tattoo written in Russian over the shoulder blades. You can also see more tattoos through the mirror he’s facing, and something about them makes you frown slightly. You don’t have the time to think more about them, since that’s when you catch his eyes watching you through the mirror, his expression amused. Your face feels warm under his gaze, and you quickly blink as you walk into the stall.
“You asked for me, sir?”
“I did,” he smiles as he turns and holds up two shirts. “Which one?”
You stare at him for a second, confused. You’d thought that he’d need more help than just for choosing a color, but you’re on board with anything he asks. Lowering your eyes from his to look at the two shirts and then at the pants he picked, you frown and twist your lips to one side. You hear him chuckle and meet his gaze again.
“That bad?” He asks, humor in his eyes.
“No, both are great, but… if it’s not asking too much, where do you intend to wear this to?” You cross your arms as you think and go over the other colors you know you have for this shirt.
“I’m meeting a … client for dinner at Nobu’s.”
You make a thoughtful sound at the name of that restaurant. It’s high end, but you can wear more relaxed attire as well.
“As I said, those shirts would suit you well, but if you’re open to suggestions…” you deliberately trail off and lift your eyebrows at him expectantly.
“Yeah, sure. Go ahead.” He nods, visibly intrigued, and starts putting the two other shirts back on their respective hangers.
You turn on your heels and quickly head to the racks where the shirts you’re looking for hang on. You slide them to the side one by one, looking for the color you’d been picturing in your head, and then for the size. He hadn’t told you his size, but it’s your job to figure it out. Finding the one you need, you pull it off the rack and hurry back to the changing rooms, your customer waiting with a curious smile as you close the curtains behind you. He lifts a hand for the shirt, but you remove it from the hanger that you put next to the two others on the right wall, and open the buttons before holding the shirt open for him. He obligingly turns around and lets you slip it over his arms and onto his shoulders, getting you that much closer to him and letting you catch a whiff of the warm fragrance he’s wearing. You step back a few paces and see him looking down at the shirt through the mirror. He turns to face you with a nod of agreement. The color suits him perfectly, and it would look good with the rest of his outfit. You force your eyes away from the skin that’s still showing through the open shirt. He’s not shirtless anymore, but somehow, with the shirt only sitting on his shoulders, he looks even sexier, if that’s even possible.
He starts buttoning up the shirt, however, and you’re able to breathe a little easier. After fitting the shirt into the pants, his hands go to the cuffs, about to fasten them.
“Sir? Allow me?” You tentatively ask, motioning to the sleeves.
He blinks at you in surprise, but nods his assent. You step closer again and take one hand in both of yours to lift it slightly for you to work better on the sleeves. Instead of closing the cuff, you start rolling the fabric over itself, revealing his strong forearms. You have to swallow thickly at their sight. This man has stunning hands and arms. Is anything about him not ridiculously attractive? You repeat the same action with his other sleeve, while trying to ignore his eyes on you.
“There,” you say at last, and grin at him. “You can move them back down, but also keep them that way and still look perfect for Nobu’s. Fashionable but relaxed.”
He stares down at himself and at his arms, before he turns to the mirror to observe himself.
“Not bad.” He meets your eyes over his shoulder and nods with a pleased grin. “And it’s Julian, by the way.”
You blink once, twice, before returning his smile.
“Happy I could help, Julian… But…” You take a critical look at the slacks. “If it’s alright with you, I’d like to make some adjustments to the pants.” You allow yourself to put your hands over his hips, keeping it professional and only explaining your thoughts. “Here, they fit perfectly.” You go down on one knee and pinch the fabric on the back of his thigh to get the pants to sit tighter. “But I’d take off an inch here. You have long legs, and that would make them stand out more.”
Julian hums in understanding and pivots to you, getting your face level with his crotch. And, oh. You can tell, just from how the fabric stretches over it, that it’s hiding something impressive. You slowly slide your eyes up, until you reach his, only to find him watching you with curiosity.
“How long would the changes take? My appointment is tomorrow,” he wonders, his eyes never leaving yours.
“It can be done by tomorrow. I’ll just have to pin down the fabric and if you’re satisfied, you’ll be free to leave and get everything tomorrow.”
“I’m convinced you’ll make sure I’m satisfied,” he chuckles, with something deeper to it, and oh, he’s definitely flirting now.
You try to hide the way you want to squirm at his change of tone, your body feeling hotter from it.
“I will,” you breathe, before clearing your throat and getting up. “I’ll get the pins.”
You fight the urge to run out of the changing room, glad to leave Julian’s presence before you do something stupid. You take a minute to slowly breathe in and out a few times after reaching the storage room and try to get your focus back before you return to Julian with pins, a notebook, and a measuring tape.
He’s trying on the jacket over the shirt when you arrive, but removes it and puts it on the hanger after seeing you and waits for your instructions.
“Just stay still, please.” You close the curtains once again and go to both your knees, this time, to begin pinning the fabric to the length you find more fitting.
You work methodically, jutting down an information or two in the notebook for the seamstress later. You lose yourself in your work, putting a pin between your lips, sliding the material together, taking the pin out of your mouth and carefully placing it in the pants. It helps you to not think about the fact that Julian is watching you throughout the whole process. You can practically feel his eyes on your exposed neck, but you remain concentrated. At least as much as you can once you change to the other leg and notice the slightly more prominent bulge at his crotch. It’s nothing obvious, but your face is right there. You close your eyes and breathe out as inconspicuously as possible, not wanting to show how affected you’re getting by his sheer presence. The fact that he’s reacting to your touch, as work related as you keep it, is having a thrill running through you. It’s obvious that he knows that you’re attracted to him, and it would be embarrassing if he wasn’t reacting to you as well, or behaving as gallantly as he is and not commenting on it. He’s not saying or doing anything besides watching you. You bite over your lower lip with the urge to glance up at him.
“I’m almost done with the pins,” you comment after another minute, your voice barely louder than a whisper, and finally do look up.
Heat floods your body. Your neck and face feel hot as you see his expression. His lips are quirked to one side in a faint smirk, not mocking, just highly entertained, but his eyes are alive with intensity, dark with something that has you swallowing hard.
“Take your time,” he rasps.
You can only nod and lean your head forward again. You lick your lips and breathe in deeply, before going back to finishing putting the rest of the pins in the pants. Leaning to the side to get the measuring tape, you begin by measuring from heel to knee. You force your hands to not tremble as you slide the tape from his knee to crotch, making sure to not actually touch anything you shouldn’t. You keep your head lowered as much as you can, not wanting Julian to read your emotions on your face. You write down the new information in the notebook sitting between your legs and start again with the other leg. With the curtains drawn and you being so close to him, you find yourself surrounded by his scent, his body exuding warmth from the repeated action of putting clothes on and off. And maybe something else. You can’t begin to image who Julian is, something about his tattoos telling you that there might be some hint of danger, but the pull that he has on you doesn’t feel dangerous at all.
Taking a few other measurements, you’re done not long after that, and quickly get up without meeting his gaze, trying not to fumble with the tools you’d brought to work as you set them to the side.
“Alright, you can take the pants off now, and I’ll take them with me. Would you like to purchase the rest of the clothes today, or should I put them to the side for you tomorrow?” You mentally pat yourself on the back for your even voice.
“I’ll get them all tomorrow, if that’s alright with you.”
“Of course.”
You see him remove the clothes through the corner of your eyes and purposely keep your back to him as you write more annotations in the notebook, giving him privacy. He hands you the clothes that he’s put back on their hanger, and you take them with a tiny smile and barely a glance at his face. He keeps moving behind you, the rustling sound of fabric continuing while he dresses into the clothes he’d come in with. You’re unfolding the sleeves of the shirt that he’ll be buying and smoothing them out with the thought of ironing the creases out before giving it to him tomorrow, when you feel him right behind you.
“What time do you get off?” He breathes in a deep rumble right into your ear.
You exhale sharply, your eyes widening.
“Whenever you decide, sir… I – I mean… At – at 7.” You clasp a palm over your mouth at your automatic response, your body burning with the highest of embarrassments.
Julian stills at your back, before a warm chuckle tickles the back of your neck.
“Is this what you like?” There's no hint of mockery in his tone, just genuine curiosity.
“No! I… I don't know. I… I've never-” you babble, your thoughts a mess. You have no idea where this came from. You only know that under all his sweet smiles, there's something that had you reacting that way.
“Hey, hey. You're alright.” He gently turns you around by the shoulders and makes you look into his kind eyes. “I can give you whatever you want… Whatever you need… But how about we start with dinner?”
