Every day I’m haunted by the fact the boys happily swim in sewer water
Even if it’s filtered somehow there’s no way it’s not still nasty 😭 Bet they can defeat any of their villains just by accidentally giving them diseases I swear
#rottmnt#rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles#bless their hearts but they’re nasty#it’s funny because like#each and every one of them has moments#where they’re a typical disgusting teenage boy#and then the next they have STANDARDS#can’t blame Leo for being so determined to go to a spa#even if he nearly licked his own foot that’s prob cleaner than anything else the boys have been up to in years 💀#thank you shelldon for all your hard work cleaning after then 🙏#they’re all gross teenage boys!!!#even Donnie he is NO exception here#bro was DRINKING A BEVERAGE while wading through sewer water he is just as gross as his bros#bro also talks with his mouth full he is no more refined than his equally gross bros fr and I love it#but yeah no way that water isn’t disgusting even filtering it would still leave grime on the walls of the sewer for yearsss#pros of them moving into an abandoned subway system is fixing their sense of smell enough to not be as gross#100% that’s part of why they didn’t mind being so filthy pre shelldon#because I mean they were literally raised in the sewers and they’re teenage boys like that’s a double whammy#THEY ALSO DONT WEAR SHOES#the few times any of them do the shoes are discarded before heading home 💀#I love them tho they are endearing anyhow#April’s immune system must be godlike just being around them fr#honestly no joke Mikey’s probably the cleanest of them all#just by virtue of being a chef#Leo I see as a mixture since he no doubt loves to pamper himself so he’s clean like#a percentage of time before he goes out and ruins his own hard work#Donnie is similar in that he’s just VERY SELECTIVE about what he thinks is too gross#Raph may be more on the stinky end but it’s not his fault he has his stinks and eats things of dubious origin(esp since his bros ate poison)#Donnie and Leo really have the gall to be sick about Raph eating the origami salami but they have no room to talk#all their villains are prob like please stay away from us we have salmonella now

ATLA and Marvel have the same misogyny
So... I've finally made it to episode 8 of Netflix's Live Action ATLA.
This may be shocking for some of you, because I wrote a post about how Netflix ATLA is misogynistic a month ago, but now I'm back again.
I specifically want to talk about the absolutely ridiculous and bullshit feminist virtue signaling that we are habitually forced to endure.
The scene I am specifcally referring to is the scene in which Katara demands that Master Pakku let's her fight. Then all of a sudden, the camera pans to all of the healers in the Northern Water Tribe (the female water benders) who stand ready to fight.
Yet, despite their immense power, they are begging this old as man for permission, instead of just doing what needs to be done.
This scene is giving... stupid. It's giving the 999th Marvel movie that NOBODY freaking wanted... okay! Does anybody remember that scene from Avenger's End Game (of course you do), in which all of the female avengers assemble, and it's one female cameo after another? I have no idea who liked this scene, but I didn't. I HATED this scene! I thought it was tacky and cringe, and I didn't understand why I felt that way.
Then in the Marvels, there's this scene in which Captain Danvers gets knocked down, and then there's this sequence starting from when she was a little girl playing softball in which she gets knocked down and gets back up.
The whole thing is soooo cringe.
It's cringe because it's heavy handed. It feels like one of those inspirational quotes you put on your wall that says something stupid like "She believed she could so she did..." or "Shero" or "Herstory".
It feels like a moment in which the male writers were like, we got to make women feel seen, so let's stop the flow of the entire movie and series and whatever is going on and have this really stupid overproduced moment in which the women look like bad asses, before we hide the women back in the background and let the real heroes (the men) take over.
All of this despite the fact that in hindsight, of all of the avengers assembled there to fight Thanos that day (both male and female, alike), Scarlett Witch and Captain Marvel were the only one's canonically strong enough to stop Thanos. Yet, we can't have that, because a man needs to be the hero.
Like stop stealing women's W's. It happens all the time in shows like Naruto, in which the most powerful kunoichi will get caught up by the most stupid insignificant thing, so that a man can end up saving her and she becomes the damsel in distress.
The narrative of women can be strong but never as strong as men because men need to be the hero is weak and tired, tell a new story!!!
Especially, because it really isn't all that true anymore. After the industrial revolution and the boom of tech, women and men's physically strengths have become increasingly more similar for decades. Why, because very few people need to carry giant logs and chop down trees to survive anymore! You don't need to be swol to complete a spreadsheet.
I digress.
My point is what these scenes from ATLA and Marvel have in common. It's the reason why they are both cringe.
Men don't see women as women who are unique human beings with our own unique desires. Therefore, male writers force powerful female characters to embody male characteristics that appeal to men.
You know all that flexing and all the abs and the sweat and the thirst trap scenes of half naked men like Thor and Captain America (even the scene with Sokka in it). Do you think those scenes are for women? Well, they are not. They are for men. Men get hard-ons for these kinds of scenes, and these scenes are specifically created for men and the male gaze.
Then they try to extend this to female characters, to show that they are feminists. However, this completely ignores the female gaze and female motivation.
The scenes really are women quietly asking for permission (not really) and then men loudly given women permissions to stand out and be powerful, but only in a way that satisfies the male gaze. Which considering the fact that men are socially conditioned to like feminine or overly sexual women, I have no idea who these scenes appeal to!!!
Like bro... read a freaking book. Learn about history!!! Real history!!! Women do not need the permission of men to be powerful, intelligent, strong, tactful or ambitious. Women have already been all of these things since the dawn of time.
Therefore, women don't need weird cameos that break up the pacing of the story or scenes of little girls playing sports, getting knocked down, and getting back up to feel seen. Women and girls do not need to be convinced that we are powerful. We already know it. We've been working in the background for centuries while men have taken credit for our labors, efforts, and endeavors.
All we need is for men to get the hell out of our way! We can see it right now with education and employment. Ever since women were allowed to attend school, women have outperformed men in education is almost every subject (and men and women are at par with each other in Math and Science). Women are also out enrolling men in college 2:1.
So instead of giving women 5 minutes of permission to be powerful in movies and shows and embuing them with masculine characterists, write a compelling female character from the beginning of the show. Develop her character as a person, who has to deal with the unique intersectionality of being a woman. Don't make her whole personality being a woman.
And if you cannot, write a compelling female character, then get a woman to do it!
End Rant. Thank you for attending my TED Talk.

Post-true ending art for Sifu, this time with Fajar! Along with the MC turning the bosses into allies, I love the idea of her displaying the respective Five Virtues that each boss is associated with and lacks in-game.
In Fajar's case, it's Humanity, more commonly known as Benevolence, iirc. He offed the MC when she was only a child, and we never find out how he feels about the deed, though the spare option implies that he probably felt guilty about it for years afterward. I suspect he only did it because Yang asked him to, and Fajar trusted him (just as he trusts Yang to treat his illness).
The MC sparing Fajar can be seen as an act of humanity (and benevolence), but I like to take it further and imagine that she went back to Fajar after, and they somehow formed a sort of "gremlin uncle and compassionate niece" dynamic, if that makes sense XDD
I'm also not sure how to explain what's going on in my painting; I just wanted to draw Fajar experimenting with some pretty flowers other than the purple ones used to make drugs lmaoo and the MC supports his endeavours! :D

“That’s not a very nice way to greet the man that saved your life.”
“You’ve done nothing to save our life,” the man scoffs.
“On the contrary…” James trails off, snapping his fingers in expectation.
“Greyback,” the man mutters, a mocking smile on his face exposing his sharp, white teeth.
“I’ve done plenty to save your life, Greyback, because all you have to do,” he takes a step closer, crouching down right in front of their faces, “is answer one simple question, then I let you go back on your ship. You go back to your master, and I go on my merry way.”
“You know nothing about him if you think we’d get off for this,” Alecto hisses, her foul breath spilling between them. “A traitor is as good as dead.”
“Then you take your ship and you run,” James shrugs. “I don’t care what you do, or where you go. I have my question, and you…” James grins, “are at my mercy.”
The two share a glance. A silent agreement.
“What’s your question,” Greyback says.

the association in wolf 359′s sound design between memory and water, and the association between water and hera by extension; the artificial construct of a beach as imagined by someone who has never seen a beach but wants to. what’s expected of hera, the parts of her that were programmed to serve a certain function... “or end up in other places, doing things not because you’re good at them but just because of what you are" ... is so much in conflict with who she is, what she enjoys and feels drawn towards. the natural world, appreciation of music and literature, even spirituality... in one AMA, sarah shachat suggested druid as an rpg class for hera, and i’m fascinated by that. hera’s draw towards the natural world and, broadly, things the text associates with the Human Experience is such an interesting and deliberate choice. that alone feels like such a statement about isolation and loneliness as obstacles to personal growth and self-discovery: to have some innate longing for things she literally was not designed to experience.
#wolf 359#w359#hera wolf 359#hera w359#the association of water + memory is its own topic#esp. storms in the sound design. in memoria in change of mind in brave new world#even paradise valley is lyrically About Water#there is something to that. i don't know. if memory is more than the incidental. if memory is the You part. the way you interpret the world#then there is something intrinsically human tied to the concept. and by extension#the conflict between technology and structures and situations#that aren't designed for or are actively hostile to human life and the human spirit#paired with these motifs of. nature and music and all of the connected associations#is certainly. well i think at the very least you can interpret it in the context of capitalist disregard for What Makes Us Human.#all things considered#and i do think that's particularly interesting with hera#the divide between WHO she is and WHAT she is#the things she values and the way she thinks as a person#this draw towards a natural world she has never experienced and wasn't made TO experience#vs. the way she's expected to think by virtue of programming and automated functions and the job she has to perform#she can also be. surprisingly spiritual#i just think it's such an interesting choice. when i have the time and inclination i'd like to expand on this#re: potential options for hera post-canon and why i feel the way i do about them. i think there's some interesting potential thematically#also yes this ties into the way i think you can read her character arc as a trans narrative. of course it does.#oh i thought i'd mentioned this but reading this back. i didn't. so#i also think that even#hera's appreciation of space. the way she observes it and the way she describes it. is in ways both appreciation of art and nature

i'm reading blood, water again ❤️
does max not have his license, or does he just not have a car in high school? i'm realizing that everyone else is giving him rides to places
he does have a license but his father refused to buy him a car and refuses to let him drive because that's not a skill he "needs to have" really and because it's clearly way too dangerous to let an irrational omega drive 🙄

You know reading vol 5 of mdzs before all the rest (don't ask me why I'm a clown and there were Circumstances) has to be the craziest experience of my life. Because it took all of ten minutes of wwx talking to literally hit me so hard in the gut I had to sit down and listen to really loud music for a while to calm down.
Who needs therapy when mxtx is alive and writing, I guess????? 🤡
Can't wait to get to the actual tragic parts I just know I'm gonna be that "help" frog phone meme
#mdzs#i was really out here thinking svsss would be my fave bc of lbh#and then i finally get around to reading mdzs and it blows my expectations out of the fucking water holy actual shit#and i just had this feeling the first time i read parts of it like 'oh. this series is going to kill me. im not coming back from this.'#and here i am booboo the fool getting my clown ass make-up on#idk how to explain it like i just fucking LOVE mxtx's takes on arrogance#that wwx is constantly being perceived as a show off and an incorrigible flirt and a know it all#how wwx cant always help the ways he acts out the desperation that has embedded itself into his very bones#how wwx only ever wanted to do the right thing and that having been so much of his downfall#how his worth and talent would always be eclipsed by virtue of his circumstances#how he's above needing recognition at his core but at the same time longs for an ounce of good will and positive recognition ->#how human he is despite his brilliance. how he never gets it no matter how hard he tries to be worthy.#like to me wwx is emblematic of what it means to be poor/an immigrant in high places#always villified always alien always wrong always unwelcome#no matter how clever or capable or kind youll always be an eyesore because you don't 'act right'. not 'one of them.' you never will be.#i just...the way he just wanted it all to be over by the end. the way he didnt even want to come back to life. that he was sick of it all.#im rattling the bars of my cage i love him I LOVE HIM i love him#i understand you lan wangji (and i love lwj too)#and even lan wangji too like. the way so many of their issues in the beginning stems from that self-same problem#how lwj couldn't live with his out of control feelings how he too couldn't quite lay down his pride#how lwj was also trapped by the expectations of his clan in his own way how so much of their separation was a form of penance#that the calamity of wwx's loss forced him to reconsider everything he thought he knew about himself and his life#how he was left with nothing but regret. how when wwx returns--lwj refuses to leave anything to chance this time#he refuses to let wwx be alone anymore--refuses to let him hurt himself for the sake of others refuses to just let it all happen#even if it means overstepping a boundary or propriety it doesn't matter--as long as wwx stays with him. pride be damned#god i just can't i just can't do it im biting im ripping things apart GOD#will also say the jokes about lwj being like. 'strict moral compass or BUST.' and then wwx literally committing like 17 felonies in the bg#while lwj is like 'crimes? what crimes. nothing to see here.' NEVER stops being funny. like i was pissing myself laughing#i know its a known trope but by god are they hilarious about it#also. lan qiren how many times do your nephews have to go catatonic for you to stop with the catholic guilt and repression

The Elements / Tau Retammas
Tumblr media
Water / Sumon ---- The Rain / Tau Reye
(Sometimes "Rain" can be substituted with "The Stream" {Tau Fold} )
The next point represents all the aspects of Water (Imagination, Forgiveness, Sensitivity, Easy-going, Blood, Tears, Emotions, Cleansing, Creativity, Healing), but concentrates specifically on waters elements of the forest. Water flows and ebbs within our oceans and weaves its way through various terrains. We use it every day from drinking to cooking, we swim in it on hot days. It gives our bodies comfort from aches and pains, as steam rises from the hot water soothing the stresses of the day. From the forest's waters we see the waters within the womb and the blood that flows through our veins. The rain nurtures the forest and us, quenching our thirst, and within the rain we also find our emotions- specifically tears of sorrow, pain and joy. The mist and dew cleanse the forest and us each morning, so we can start the day anew. In water we can scry into the depths and see what needs to be seen. The waters of the forest cool us down when we get too hot, both physically and emotionally. It is an element which supports all life, not just sea creatures and freshwater fish. One of the great forces on earth encompasses the earth with its wondrous colors and covers the vast, virtually unexplored, deep terrain below the water's surface. With water we are given the chance to create - inks, paints, clay, thus bringing out our creativity. It is the element associated with Faith – immutable and ever present, our emotions and beliefs change even if ever so slightly following what we feel to be right and true for ourselves and the world around us. From the rapids of the stream, we learn how to navigate our ways towards stillness. Faith, like water, fills us with peace and serenity if we let it wash away all our troubles and pains. We constantly seek peace in the faith that life will continue onward and that the Gods (or whatever we choose to believe in) are out there watching over us and protecting us from harm while guiding us on our life's journey. Water flows where others disdain, where it is in harmony with all things. The path of water is shaded in the hue of blue. The lesson of ecology was important to our Ancestors and should instill sacredness for our planet today. All life - every being, should strive to co-exist and live in harmony as nature intended, as the earth does. The virtue associated with the earth is Peace, because water gives us a chance to calm and relax. The earth path is one that is richly green.

no but really… i had a friend who loved a lot of pop artists and she'd constantly recommend their songs to me (not a problem, i love finding new music regardless of genre) but if i didn't like them i always got the impression that she was disappointed because this artist is a feminist or pansexual or brown or whatever why don't i like their music
she also got mad at me once for saying to a mutual friend something about how nobody's doing it how abba used to do it (which is the truth, nobody's doing it like abba used to do it) because apparently that was closeminded. should've known right then
she ALSO got mad at me when i was surprised that she didn't know who kurt cobain was. it was genuine surprise not haha wtf you don't even know who kurt cobain is judgment. with her it was always "i hope you won't pigeonhole or judge me because you're a rock fan/musician". i wonder if she realized she'd already pigeonholed me by asking that of me

What are your thoughts on Finn and Millie’s fans dropping them for going to Starbucks? Personally I support organic boycotts when I can-and when the reasons for them make sense to me-but I’ve never cared which celebrities join me in doing that. I’ve never been in a fandom this parasocial, and I kind of want to get out. I feel like the focus is always on the younger cast too, when the Duffers could and have done worse without getting cancelled. Some of these same fans are still begging strangerwriters to come back to twitter! You can’t ‘boycott’ the show or its cast and still hang on their every post imo.

that's all i have to say about that tbh

Virtues We Write In Water
The baby clawed her way out of her mother, leaving a torn up and bloody corpse behind. Her first cries caught fire, and the house smouldered. The midwife picked her up from the mess before the flames could reach her, thinking she was doing a kind thing. When they were safe under the light of the moon, she looked down into the little girls green eyes, and something in them looked back.
Charles Evans found her curled up in the woods, screaming her throat raw, clawing at her eyes. Monster, she was screaming, a hound of hell. And there was his little babe, swaddled, covered in blood, sleeping peacefully on the forest floor.
The midwife begged him, spit flying and blood dripping from her fingernails, take her to the river. Let it have her.
But Charles couldn't bear it, riddled with grief he looked at his child and all he saw was that she had her mothers eyes. He carried them both to the village shaman, who took the babe with shaking arms.
She’ll be worse than her mother, he said. This one will show no mercy.
But Charles Evans was a sentimental man who loved his mad wife with every part he had to give, and chose to refuse the warning.
There was no celebration for her birth, and in a town that worshiped cats, she was named after their deadliest foe.
