i know swiping food off wilson's plate is house's love language but house just brought an empty plate to wilson's table in the cafeteria, used his hands to take half of wilson's food and put it onto his own plate, wiped his hands and pulled a FORK out of his jacket as if he keeps one there at all times for this express purpose

and it wasn't even a plastic fork or anything it was ACTUAL silverware

i really do love that that's house's love language though it's 'i feel incredibly comfortable with you' it's a level of familiarity you can only get to after spending hundreds of hours with that person. i remember in an episode in one of the earlier seasons wilson's eating a salad and house asks with obvious disgust, 'since when do you eat beets?' but swipes one anyway... he does it just because he can and wants to, much like i'm always poking my brother in the stomach and annoying him to bits to express affection. 'i'm going to make a point of eating your food whenever i see it because i love annoying you harmlessly because i love you'

i was going to write a long post about food in this show with regards to hilson, especially as a stand-in for the love that they have for each other and the extent to which they're willing to show it without words, but it's been months and i still haven't done it so i thought i'd share an observation which i haven't seen anyone point out before

in season 5, episode 3 "adverse events", there are what i can only assume are carrots and tomatoes on house's countertop

when have we ever seen vegetables in his kitchen? when have we seen this man ever buy his own ingredients pre-learning how to cook in season 6?

we know for a fact he avoids cooking as much as he can, eats the majority of his meals from the hospital cafeteria or from wilson's plate, and if he must eat at home it's usually toast or canned soup, or takeout with wilson

only wilson isn't talking to him at the beginning of this season. a major food source has been cut off

i can only draw one conclusion from the appearance of these vegetables: no wilson = house has to make his own food

the only other time house has made this many excuses (fewer actually) to check up on a duckling has been with thirteen. and we all know they're like this 🤞

also chase being absolutely fatherless accuses house of wanting everyone to be like him but my god it's house with the steel chair, the BIGGEST dad move possible, what was essentially "please don't turn into me." a vulnerable, honest plea. no deflection, rationalization, or making this about himself... uno reverse card of all time. sobbing throwing up etc

"you reassess your life when you've made mistakes. you didn't. you just got stabbed." the way house's voice got so soft during the last sentence... cue that cameron line from season 3 "he almost looks like he's... caring." hugh laurie makes me want to eat glass
