Hi fellow adventurers!! A few weeks ago i caught wind of "Delicious in Dungeon". I'm not really an anime person, but I am a TTRPG, CRPG, and cooking person- . And holy shit. It is so good i  convinced my partner to binge read the whole thing. I'm caught up on dungeon meshi, the anime, and just yesterday i also finished dungeon meshi, the manga.
Its rare to come across a serialized story that is so thematically cohesive and knows its characters so well. All of the bonus content like the artbooks and monster tidbits are just the icing on top.
So, inspired by Ryōko Kui's writing and illustration I'm going to attempt to create a recipe for every single Delicious in Dungeon recipe!-
Today that means Huge Scorpion and Walking Mushroom hotpot is on the menu!
(As always you can find the cooking instructions and full ingredient list under the break-)
MY NAMES CROSS NOW LETS COOK LIKE ANIMALS
SO, “what goes in to a Huge Scorpion and Walking Mushroom hotpot?” YOU MIGHT ASKThis is one of the pricier dishes until we get to the kelpies and dragons of the menu-
Rock lobster tail
Porcini mushrooms
Shiitake mushrooms
Snow fungus
Small potatos
Fensi (glass noodles)
Water
OPTIONAL: your choice of dipping sauces
There was a crossover/promotional event in Shibuya which featured various realworld dishes from the series. They had one for Huge Scorpion and Walking Mushroom, but they used prawns.  while those cook better in a hotpot, they also didn't look enough like the scorpion for me, they also used udon noodles for the slime and a seaweed/kale(?) mixture for the algae. If you're looking for substitutes due to price or availability i would start with those ingredients.
AND, “what does a Huge Scorpion and Walking Mushroom hotpot taste like?” YOU MIGHT ASKI hope Senshi would forgive me for technically cooking the lobster outside the pot, once he tastes it.
Okay im always partial to veggies but wowowowowowowoowowowow the snow fungus and the mushrooms tasted soooooooooooo good in the lobster stock
A nice delicate layering of different flavors
Try to get a bite with the lobster meat and shiitake together, dip in butter then chili- trust me
Its up to you what texture you prefer if you want to put the noodles in at the end or put them in halfway through the meal. Either way dont go for eating those first as theyre very filling
I think this would pair well with a citrus drink, something light and clarifying
This would also pair well with being extremely high and hungry (if you feel safe cooking while inebriated lol) very calorically dense
For the trial run I did one lobster tail in the pot with everything else, and one lobster tail off to the side to be picked apart. The former is more in spirit with a hotpot, but it got rubbery as the meal went on and lost its nice taste. The latter may be a bit more work but all you have to do still is boil it and set it aside. I found it held up much better. It was also easier to get inside the shell.
. If you have hardshell maine lobster available, i think it would be superior to rock lobster (keep in mind crustaceans will get rubbery if cooked too long in the pot) . Green onions and/or lotus root would make excellent additions
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From getting the ingredients out to sitting down and eating, id say it took maybe 30 minutes max? It'd vary on how fast you can prep vegetables and get the various implements heated.
Hotpots are not something i do very often as i'm usually just feeding myself. I think thats why a hotpot makes perfect sense to start the series off. If you want to set the tone of "take care of yourself, eat food with others, and use what you have" (generally speaking) there is nothing more simplistic, flexible, and defeats-the-purpose-if-you-eat-it-alone than a hotpot. Gather around and let your friends bring ingredients to the pot if you want to fill your heart up extra full <3
I'm doing something different here because unlike previous recipes where i used a bunch of different sources and made my own recipe out of hodge-podging it, or just used another persons recipe entirely if they did it really well, i made this more whole-cloth based off of what i had available, what I could discover through research, and my existing knowledge. Instead of the recipe being 50/50 original, this one is more 20/80. So. I'll pass the final verdict off to you guys :D
What would you rate this recipe out of 10? (with 1 being food that makes one physically sick and 10 being food that gives one a lust for life again.) Did you love it, did you hate it? What're your thoughts on what I could do different, and what would you have done instead?
🐁 ORIGINAL RESIPPY TEXT BELOW 🐁
Ingredients:
2 Rock lobster tails
3 Porcini mushrooms
2 Shiitake mushrooms
Snow fungus (a good handful, should rehydrate in the hotpot)
2 Small waxy potatos
Fensi (glass noodles)
Water/lobster stock
Method:
Lightly rinse all of your vegetables beforehand and let them dry.
Vertically slice the porcini mushrooms. Cut off and dice the stems of the shiitake mushrooms. You can slice the tops if youd like.
Peel and cube the potatoes, roughly an inch each.
For the lobster tails; Boil a pot of salted water. Keep the shell on. Weigh the largest tail and add 1 minute of cooking time for every ounce of weight.
When done, strain the lobster from the water. Pour the water into your hotpot as the base. Serve the lobster on the side so people can pick the meat out to dip into the hotpot.
Bring the hotpot to a simmer. Add the potato cubes, snow fungus, mushrooms, and noodles.
OPTIONAL: this wasnt in the show, but its fun having sauces on the side :) i had oyster sauce, dry seasoned chili dip, melted butter, and soy sauce available

The Beach Omake And Authorial Intent
initially i was going to save this for a big teru analysis i had cooking however i eventually ended up deciding that it would feel like a really long tangent in its original context and probably deserves a separate post.
when it comes to the whole "teru's parents" thing i generally see two competing ideas on it
a. terus absent parents are the real villains of mob psycho and are the direct cause of everything wrong with his life and any and all teru analysis must center around this fact
b. terus parents being absent in the first place is only revealed in an omake and only exists for plot convenience and is not something that should be focused on at all when writing him
and whenever i see either of these my mind always drifts to the question of authorial intent. i know how people are reading this information, but how are we supposed to? i know death of the author is becoming more of a common thing in fandom spaces (albeit usually misused) but i feel like a better understanding of why this omake exists and how we're supposed to read it might help to better synthesize two takes that seems to be completely at odds with each other.
okay first i want to go over the actual placement of the beach omake in the update schedule of the manga because, unlike most other omakes, i feel like this ones placement in the schedule of page releases is actually super relevant
the vast majority of omakes come at the end of weekly updates. you finish reading the usually 15-20 pages ONE put out and then you get a little bonus comic at the end, usually something funny or a slice of life but but occasionally more serious. multi part omakes are usually spread out over multiple updates, making you wait a couple weeks for a punchline.
beach omake is not that. between chapters 99 (mob gets hit by a car) and 100 (the whole rest of the omake) there was a 6 week hiatus from normal pages and in this hiatus is where we get beach omake. reading it all together immediately cuts away the sort of "slice of life sunday paper comic" tone other multi part omakes have and make you read it as a part of the actual main story, since that's how you're used to reading these weekly updates.
now the actual tone. generally the multi part omakes exist to be long punchlines and the rare emotional ones are a single page for maximum impact. beach omake has a very different structure compared to, say, the haunted doll omake or the pot of happiness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
off the bat from the first two pages there's not really a joke. the tone mostly seems kind of melancholic. mobs expression for the middle section of the second page (maybe purposely) is obscured by the panel breaking off, it's hard to tell his reaction, all our attention is directed at teru. with all of the panels taken up by dialogue (primarily his own), we're being asked to focus on what he's saying:
-teru lives alone
-he lives alone because his parents live overseas
-he hasnt seen them in a while
-he doesnt like having nothing to do
-he doesnt like being alone
Tumblr media
all of this information is delivered with an extremely casual expression from him, implying that it's not something that seems ll the out of the ordinary for him. mob, on the other hand...
Tumblr media
the hesitation before he says anything and the way his expression is obscured seems to imply something is... off... about this information to him. this isn't a handwaved "oh mob is walking home from school after passing out because he needs to for plot reasons", we're reacting to this information like it's weird.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the next two pages are, mostly, a lot more of what we expect out of a mob psycho omake. the first one works as a standalone joke page, teru is bad at identifying animals which leads to him showing reigen a roach, something reigen is terrified of, instead of a beetle.
the second page starts similarly, we get a dumbass joke about reigen trying to pick up women at the beach (note: i think this is the singular time we get an indication reigen is even into women) but then the next two panels take on a more melancholic tone again. we get a small panel of mob and ritsu playing on the beach and a much, much larger panel of teru sitting on the beach, watching them. the dialogue bubble forces us to pay attention to the fact that he is silent.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the ending of this omake is where we bring it home. generally the last panel centers the punchline of the page, or of the whole omake, but the final panel of this isn't really what was being built to in this case.
Tumblr media
we start our second page on teru. his expression is obscured, reigens speech bubble is shoved to the side so we can see that teru's hat is being held in his hands.
Tumblr media
when we see his face in full view he looks... confused. he looks like he doesn't know how to react to someone going through all this trouble for him. teru is a character who, up to this moment, we have seen as extremely independent. he always rushes into things alone, he always has to be the hero, he always has to be the one to save the day. hell, this omake is immediately followed by the confession arc. where... you know.
Tumblr media
so what are we supposed to get out of this omake?
Tumblr media
teru's been doing everything on his own up to this point
Tumblr media
but he doesn't have to anymore

Hello, can we get cuddling and just sweet head canons with Souya? 🥹
Tumblr media
a sweet day in!!
synopsis: how does souya like to cuddle with his s/o?
Tumblr media
☆ a/n ˎˊ˗ hello anon thank you for requesting !! this is pretty short but sweet, so i dont have much to add ! hope you all enjoy and have an amazing day !! xoxo
☆ characters ˎˊ˗ souya [angry] kawata x g/n!reader
☆ wc ˎˊ˗ 700+

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
❥ souya is 100% the little spoon most of the time, and this is not arguable!! he loves to be held in your arms, (although he’s very shy about admitting it) and he finds having your presence right behind him to be very comforting. this position sometimes changes when he turns around, in which he’ll wrap his arms around your waist and have his head tucked underneath your head, (his hair gets in your face, but you will never ever admit that to him).
❥ he tends to slowly trace different shapes and words on your back, which can sometimes lead to impromptu naps when you really aren’t supposed to be napping, (usually leads to the two of you waking up in a panic when nahoya bangs on the door asking why you still haven’t gone home yet).
❥ definitely mumbles random things in his sleep, which can be quite amusing to listen to.
“...th..ramen…(y/n)...”  “huh? souya?”  “...no, the…pepper…”  “oh, okay.”
❥ absolutely adores whenever you play with his hair! he doesn’t care what you do with it whether you braid it, brush it, or just mess with it in general, he never wants you to stop. if you do stop, he won’t say anything, but he’ll have a bit of a frown and will put your hand back on his head in hopes that you’ll continue.
❥ on the same note, he also likes to play with your hair as well! he’s extremely gentle with it because he doesn’t want there to be any chance of hurting you, so he’s either smoothing his hand over your hair or lightly massaging your scalp, (he doesn’t have a reason behind this aside from the fact that you seem to enjoy it).
❥ it is a common occurrence for the two of you to be playing video games while cuddling! he’s specifically set up his ps2, gamecube and television in front of his bed, which makes for a perfect cuddling / gaming session! contrasting his usual little spoon position, he will actually sit you right between his legs and will tuck your head under his chin while the two of you play.
❥ your go-to games are mario party, mario kart, and animal crossing, (for when the two of you are tired and want to play a relaxing game). surprisingly, you guys never really use the ps2, most of the games you two play being nintendo!
❥ souya is very sweet, so the the most he will do when he is losing in a game is grumble under his breath and hold you a little bit tighter. he still enjoys every second of it though!
❥ in relation to this, the two of you will cuddle while doing almost any hobby such as this! it usually depends on your mood, but it can range from anything; gaming, reading manga, or eating snacks and watching a show.
❥ he makes sure to be stocking up on all your favorite snacks because of this!
❥ when the two of you are reading manga together, you usually have to read a little bit slower because souya likes to soak in all the little details and moments that happen. it ends up being useful whenever you get confused about what’s happening since he’s able to explain it to you perfectly!
❥ he’s a bit shy about it, but he’ll plant small kisses on your face from time to time when you’re asleep, (he thinks your face is so kissable, but he gets embarrassed when he kisses you and you’re watching him).
❥ when you’re asleep, he does his best to not move around and not make any sound. he knows that life and school can be stressful, so he feels grateful that you trust him so much to fall asleep around him. because of this, he will genuinely not move a muscle; he would rather he has numb limbs than have you wake up.
❥ adding on to this, the only thing he will move for will be so he can very slowly grab his phone and text nahoya to shut up.
ssouyaa.12: shh murdersmile: dont tell me 2 sh ssouyaa.12: (y/n) is sleeping murdersmile: smh
❥ nahoya thinks you two are cute, but gross at the same time, (he will protect you two with his life but also wants to punt you both like a kickball).

So one of my fav fic author, just wrote a non-power AU of GoYuu (gojo/yuji) & SukuFushi (sukuna/ fushiguro) and...... I don't know what to feel. Like, have you know someone who ship them (it's the first for me) ? The fic's not underage, yuji's and megumi's age had been aged up by the author, but still the age gap, the dynamics, right? Can you think the reasons to ship them? Well, creativity really knows no bound.....😂😶
Oooh I have actually come across both of these ships very often on ao3. The ItaJun tag has a bunch of them on top hehe. I actually used to ship Sukuna and Megumi a little back when the anime was first airing(not anymore though).
For Gojo/Yuuji I think the first episode scene where their faces are super duper close probably kickstarted it
Tumblr media
(Gojo: tf is personal space??? what's thaaaat???) GoYuu has a very popular ship dynamic I've observed in many fandoms; Student x Teacher. There's always a kind of jaded, aloof and distant teacher-figure who's shipped with the cheery, open-minded and sunny student-figure. I've heard that dynamic is really popular in East Asian fandom spaces(it appears a lot in danmei novels I've read). GoYuu was apparently the most popular ship in Japan (it beat out SatoSugu). Gojo argued to keep Yuuji alive and gave him time, so that's probably a point of appeal too. Gojo usually has no serious reactions to anything, he could have easily killed Yuuji and been done with it but he wanted him to live(Megumi did but eh, technicalities). What made this distant and carefree person take interest in the well-being of this stranger? Why would he risk the world for this one boy? That's probably the start of it. And then in the development, it's probably about how Yuuji can break down Gojo's walls and make him be more honest in his emotions.
2. Sukuna/Megumi: I used to ship it because I thought Sukuna was interested in Megumi as a person, assumed he'd be someone who can give him a good fight or wanted him as an ally.
Also this probably, look at that aesthetic appeal:
Tumblr media
(Damn Mappa had a thing for these, ItaJun also had this. Why???? Fuel fujo-bait??? I thank them for the ItaJun version)
Right before this Sukuna's all giggling laughing asking Megumi to give him more(to fight against, but like, SukuFushi enjoyers probably enjoy taking that to mean something different). I think we all assumed he was interested in Megumi's evolution as a sorcerer. He takes joy in fighting and if anyone can catch his interest, it'd be someone who's struggling to get stronger and sees him as a rival.
It seems like he doesn't give a shit about anyone but Megumi. Like that one time he verbatiom said "Aside from him, I truly don't care". Also in Shibuya arc he heals Megumi and fights Mahoraga and everyone though it's because he cares about him(I was a fool).
On Megumi's end, okay idk what the current SukuFushi shippers expect but I personally wanted Megumi to kill Sukuna even when I was shipping them. Enemies to lovers except one of them is permanently in the enemies phase. As far as I've seen, there's always this non-con element to it? Like Megumi is extremely reluctant, Sukuna is unrelenting in pursuing him, and Megumi goes through a bit of a corruption arc and Sukuna.....well he isn't redeemed but he tones down because Megumi asks. A Beauty & The Beast situation.
I was talking about it to my bff and she was (rightfully) roasting me like we were joking around. Me: "Sukuna wants him for his body.....but like literally he wants to be inside him." My friend: "You mean possess him???" Me: "That's the word yes!"
The age-gap thing for SukuFushi feels more okay because I grew up on a bunch of fantasy shojo manga where a high school girl fell for an ancient spirit with a minimum age of 100. This isn't even an animanga thing, it's there in western media too(....Twilight). A lot of people just don't see the point of mulling over age gaps when the differences are centuries, even if the other half is a minor.
As for GoYuu, well I guess it's fiction, they're just lines on a page at the end of the day and it's less about the legalities of the gap and more about the dynamics it brings to the table that people can find interest in. The power difference, the difference in ways they view the world, the younger one is always more innocent, etc.
I personally don't find these to be my interests 99% of the time but I get why others would enjoy it (my few exceptions are Scum Villain and ErHa but if I start trying to explain THOSE messes we'd all lose it).
I guess people would be confused why I'm still hung up on ItaJun too huh? XDXD But as you said, fanon and creativity has no limits and people do as they like and enjoy.

Tumblr media
➳ lucifer looks up from his work when he hears the door to his study open. “oh, mc,” he says, “how’d it g-” the words die on his lips when he sees the crestfallen look on your face, the way you’re biting your lip. something bad has happened, and it doesn’t take a genius to put two and two together, especially since you had told him you were going to be with the person you liked. “i’m sorry,” he says after a moment, sincere. he knows you had liked them a lot. “do you wish to talk about it? if not, that’s totally fine too.”
Tumblr media
➳ mammon swoops you into a big hug when he sees your glassy eyes. “’m sorry,” he says, doing his best to infuse you with warmth. “heartbreak is never easy, and believe me, i know.” he can’t count the times he’s come home and wished someone was there to console him, which is why he hadn’t hesitated when seeing you. “yer amazin’ and anyone who can’t see that is a royal idiot.” you wrap your arms around him and hold mammon there, and he’s more than happy to stay for as long as you need.
Tumblr media
➳ levi had had high hopes for you, thinking about how similar the love story could be to one of his mangas or games, but when you come home sad, instead of elated, he knows it hadn’t gone well. “hey,” he says, a little unsurely. he’s not really used to comforting people. “want to go to my room and watch a horror movie or something? i have lots of snacks to share. i’ll even let you pick the game we play afterward,” he tacks on hopefully. you take his outstretched hand, gratitude clear on your face, and levi resolves to do the best he can to make you feel better.
Tumblr media
➳ satan brings out his special tea blend, sitting you down on one of the plush couches in his room. he has to clear away a few books to do so, but he had you comfortable within a few minutes. “do you want to tell me what happened?” he asks gently. it was times like this he really wished he had a cat! they were great comfort animals! “i’m always willing to lend a listening ear, you know that. but if you’d rather not, i can read you some of this book i’m reading. it’s about a scorned lover who gets revenge.” he pauses. “maybe i’ll choose a different book, actually.”
Tumblr media
➳ asmo can’t believe someone would ever dare to break your heart! you’re the most awesome person he knows, besides himself, that is. “you were too good for them anyway,” he says, settling you into his styling chair. this calls for some facemasks and ice cream, and he has both of those, thanks to the minifridge he’d recently bought. “seriously,” he insists with a scowl. “the nerve of people these days! you’re a total catch.” you don’t seem all that consoled by his words, but he knows things like this just take time to recover from.
Tumblr media
➳ beel usually isn’t angry, but right now he is. how could someone put this expression on your face? what could they have done to make you feel like this? “oh, mc,” he says, catching you by the elbow. you press your lips together to stop the tears and beel’s heart wrenches. “c’mon,” he says, carefully leading you to the kitchen. “i’m pretty sure we have some cookie dough left, and that always helps when i’m feeling low.” his mind is already set to thinking about other comfort foods he can make to help cheer you up.
Tumblr media
➳ belphie widens his eyes upon seeing you, quickly jumping up. “mc, are you okay?” he asks. you had been in such good spirits earlier, setting off on a date with- oh, that asshole. “come here,” he says, pulling you back to his bed. “what’s wrong? did they do something to you?” you shake your head quickly, and some of his panic eases, but he’s still really concerned. you usually bounce back quickly, so you must be really upset. he’s never been the best at making people feel better but he’s going to try his hardest for you.

How to Give a First Kiss ~ *Jiro Yamada*
Tumblr media
Summary: Jiro has yet to have his first kiss. However, since he's met you, he's wanted to give it a try. But he has no idea how to go about it. Perhaps all he needs is some brotherly advice.
Pairing: Jiro Yamada X G/N!Reader
Genre: Fluffy Oneshot
Word Count: 1326
Warning: one swear word
Masterlist
When Jiro was a little boy, Ichiro used to tell him that the person he gave his first kiss to would be his spouse in the future. That was his biggest reason as to why he had never kissed anyone. Of course he never told his brothers that, especially Saburo, as he knew he’d tease him relentlessly for believing it. His excuse for why’s never had his first kiss was that he wasn’t interested in things like romance. In reality, he was just scared about giving his first kiss to the wrong person.
This was all before he met you.
You were different. You were special to him. You were someone he didn’t want to mess things up with because you were everything he wanted in a significant other and more.
He loved you so much he wanted to give you his first kiss.
Now how to go about giving you his first kiss was tricky. The whole concept was completely foreign to him. But he was sure he could figure it out. After all, there were plenty of anime and manga out there that had to deal with the topic of kissing, especially first kisses. There had to be answers there.
So he started studying. And Jiro quickly learned that it wasn’t as simple as he thought. There were so many different kinds of kisses, from quick, shy pecks to long, sloppy French kisses. It was overwhelming! He knew more about kissing than he actually cared to know now. And he wasn’t sure which kind of kiss you would prefer for your first kiss as a couple.
While Jiro was watching another romance anime, Ichiro just so happened to walk through the door with Saburo. However he wasn’t paying attention to them. He had research to do.
“Whatcha watching?” Saburo asked, plopping down next to his older brother.
Pausing the show, he turned his attention away from the TV. “I’m just doing a little research, that’s all. Are you curious?”
Ichiro nodded at the paused show. “It’s a good anime, a super cute slice of life. But that’s not usually your type of show. What kind of research are you doing?”
Before Jiro could explain, Saburo burst out laughing. It took him a minute to catch his breath before he spoke, “So there’s a certain special someone you like huh? That’s the only logical explanation for why you’d watch something like this! Wow, you really are pathetic!”
Jiro blushed and looked away. Just as he suspected, Saburo was teasing the shit out of him. He should have watched this anime in his room, where he wouldn’t be disturbed.
Ichiro shook his head and put a hand on the middle brother’s shoulder. “There’s nothing wrong with being a little nervous when it comes to your feelings, Jiro. Why don’t you tell us all about them!”
Jiro’s cheeks flushed. “I’d rather not, thank you.”
“Ah c’mon, why not?”
“Because it’s embarrassing!”
“For you it is!” Saburo stuck his tongue out at him. Jiro raised a fist to punch him, when Ichiro squeezed his shoulder.
“Hey, being in love isn’t embarrassing! Besides, as your big brother and your surrogate parent, you have to tell me!” Ichiro laughed.
With a defeated sigh, Jiro mumbled, “Fine, I’ll tell you. But not with Saburo around.”
His younger brother scoffed. “Alright, fine! I’ll be in my room if you need me, Ichi-nii. I’ll figure out what you tell him sooner or later, Jiro!”
He laughed as he walked off, causing Jiro to bury his head in his hands with a groan. Ichiro patted his back. “Are you okay? I’ll tell him to keep his mouth shut if he finds out.”
Jiro shook his head. “It’s not that.”
“Then what is it?”
“I…” He didn’t know how to explain it. It was embarrassing! He didn’t know how to deal with the emotions he was feeling for you. But he was getting nowhere by himself. Perhaps he really did need to reach out for some help. And who better than Ichiro, who he was sure had dozens of admirers fawning over him.
“The person that I like, I want to give them my first kiss.”
Ichiro’s eyes widened. “Really? That’s a big step! You must really like them, huh?”
He nodded. “I do. I really do. But I don’t know how to kiss someone and I want it to be special. I mean, I plan on marrying them in the future, so this has to be perfect!”
“WHOA!” Ichiro all but shouted, placing both hands on his brother’s shoulder as if to steady himself. “It’s just a kiss, Jiro! Not an engagement!”
Jiro frowned. “But when we were kids, you said that whoever I kissed I had to marry.”
His brother gave an anxious chuckle. “Ah, yes, that. Well, I just said that so you didn’t go around kissing every person you saw just because. Kisses are very powerful, as you’ve already guessed.”
He felt his cheeks warm with embarrassment. “Oh. I see.”
Ichiro smiled at his brother and shook his head. “Look, you’re thinking way too hard about this. The best  way to go about it, in my opinion, is to sit them down, tell them how you feel, and ask if you can kiss them. This kiss is just as important to them as it is to you. Make sure you’re both comfortable with it.”
Jiro nodded, finally having some good advice after all his hours of research. He should have known better. Of course Ichiro was a love expert! He should have gone to him first! Standing up, he thanked his brother and called you right away. He had an idea.
Not even half an hour later, Jiro was escorting you to his room. Granted he thought it was far too intimate for your first kiss, but he wanted to do it now, as Ichiro had taken Saburo with him to complete a job. He wouldn’t get another chance like this for a while.
“Y/n, we haven’t been together for very long, but I have very strong feelings for you. At first I wasn’t sure what to do with them, much less knew what they were. But after hours of research and reflection, I realized that what I feel for you is love. And my research has told me that the next step in our relationship is the first kiss. I should let you know, I have yet to actually have my very first kiss, but I would be more than happy to give that to you. So may I kiss you?”
You didn’t say anything at first, and for a moment, Jiro believed he did something wrong. He was about to reassure you that you shouldn’t feel obligated to kiss him, but that he really did love you. However, you beat him to the punch by smiling softly.
“Jiro, you know, you don’t need to prepare a speech to ask me to kiss you. We’re both still new to this whole relationship thing. If you want to kiss me, just ask simply. I’m sure we’ll figure it out, okay?”
He nodded. “Yes, of course. Alright. I’m going to kiss you now.”
You giggled, making his stomach flip. “Sounds good.”
Hesitantly, his lips touched yours. He watched your eyes slip close as you pressed against him a little harder. As he also closed his eyes, he got lost in the kiss. It felt like fireworks and electricity shooting through his body. He could almost feel himself shiver from all the feelings he was feeling. But he was more concentrated on how your lips fit perfectly against his. It felt like he’s been waiting for this moment his entire life.
When you both pulled away, he sighed and looked deep into your eyes. He knew then that what Ichiro said to him when he was younger was absolutely true. He was going to marry you one day.
“Can we do that again?”

I really really hope you're right, this just killed my motivation for everything. What happened with Solomare's story jar already left a bad taste in my mouth too.
I know I'll feel better in a few days, but I felt lied to when they said they'd continue the story and the app. And it's going to be even lighter and fluffier and a replacement for the main story line? One that new players will perfectly fit into? I was so looking forward to learning more about what would happen to Simeon.
Also not announcing it until last minute? For once I'm really glad I can barely afford food, because I'd be devastated if I had spent even a dollar. But maybe that's just me being poor.
I'm mostly likely going to stop writing for a while until I've archived everything important from the app, which is gonna take ages just in case anyway.
But anyway, are there any recent events you thought were better than usual? I've been too sick to grind lately so I haven't unlocked them. I want to know which ones to archive as soon as possible once the six months are up.
Sorry for bringing the mood down and the rant, but you seem to be the only positive one I follow that isn't outright calling people stupid or pathetic for being upset so I'm really hoping your positivity rubs off on me.
I do hope you keep posting for Nightbringer too! I have several issues with my hands so I don't think I'll ever be able to see the end of the og story line, and I especially love your analyses out of anyone else's.
Okay okay so they are continuing the og app and continuing the story, the only difference is they'll be continuing the mainstory in nightbringer and the og app will just be getting events. So the og app will continue the way it has since the end of s4 and new main story content will be uploaded to nightbringer (the devs did says this)
Not sure what happened with story jar but Obey Me! is solmare's most popular game. Objectively, nothing solmare has created has ever come near to reaching om! And I'm talking purely in the money making side of it - the anime? mangas? songs? merch? cons? VAs getting heavily involved in everything? Solmare's a business. As long as there's a fandom and a demand for it they're not gonna kill the og app.
Plus the majority of om's content is on the og app, with new content and old events still being released. If they wanted to kill the og app they'd stop releasing new content and updating lonely devil.
Since nightbringer will be continuing the mainstory from where they left off, they'd also need to move all of S1-4 the chats, call & devilgrams to nightbringer if they were gonna kill the og - and I'd imagine that's more hassle than it's worth
I do think we'd learn more about what happened to simeon;
• devs said they'd be continuing the main story in nightbringer so that'd include simeon
• nightbringer's current plot is about time travel and mc trying to find a way back home - so they will end up back in the current time at some point, where simeon's whole thing can be addressed
• s3 established that luke wasn't alive when the brothers were angels. If they intended to keep mc in the past they'd either have to scrap luke's entire character (?????) or retcon s3 which so far dropped the most lore
• thirteen (who's supposed to turn into a LI)'s first visit to the devildom happens in s4 and in nightbringer's op we see her in Diavolo's castle. Which means we're seeing the present timeline as well
....i think you're maybe panicking a bit too much? You definitely don't need to archive anything anytime soon. For well all of the reasons I mentioned above.... Maybe someday you'd have to but definitely not right now
Honestly I liked all the events🤷
No worries! And Yeah I think the thing people are forgetting is that Nightbringer is STILL Obey Me! I'm definitely going to be still talking about it
Ok so I have an exam in 2 days and I think I've answered every possible question about Nightbringer you could possibly have so I'm calling it here.
Won't be answering new asks until sunday. Everything posted will be from queue.
If you want to see my others asks/answers regarding Nighbringer just hit the tag on this post

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks....
You're all good! This is the first time I've been asked this. I'm usually terrible with favorites so I always feel like I don't pick the "best" in hindsight, but I'll try to be as accurate as possible. These will also be in no particular order since they all occupy such different areas.
(edit: I just realized in my incredible morning brain state that this said male or female, but I only read the female part haha. So this is just the female lineup, I guess).
Iwakura Lain - Serial Experiments Lain
Tumblr media
Lain's a character that has, and will always remain enigmatic. Subjectivity and personal experience remain intertwined with works like Serial Experiments Lain, so what each individual takes away from it will change. Personally, what makes me love Lain is her desperation to communicate, to connect with the people around her. To make friends, to do fun things with them, to understand the people that comprise her life. But that desire spirals, she gets absorbed (like so many do) and becomes something else entirely. Fracturing and separating herself, spreading those instances across the internet in a desperate way to connect. For existing prior to essentially all forms of social media, it depicts the struggle and addiction that trouble countless people in freakishly accurate fashion.
Iwakura Mitsumi - Skip and Loafer
Tumblr media
Had to put them next to each other on this list haha. Iwakura Mitsumi though. I don't hate the approach of a lot of Shojosei in terms of high school slice of life/romance, but I find much more to love with the more grounded ones than the more fantastical, just a personal preference. Anyways, Mitsumi. She's just the perfect representation of high school life. A dash of confidence, a good bit of deep seated anxiety, lots of stress over school and friends, but a positive and hopeful outlook in spite of her stumbling and struggles that's wonderfully accented by blossoming feelings of love. She just occupies a space that is very rare these days, so of course I love her.
Ryougi Shiki - The Garden of Sinners
Tumblr media
Okay, hot take since (spoiler) Saber's not going to be on the list. I just haven "completed" Saber's story if that makes sense. I've read a lot, experienced a lot, but I haven't gotten 100% of it like I have with Shiki. That said, Shiki's story. I mean, as a character they're so damn hard to really capture. After all, there's more than one of them, and their story is told through the experiences of others. Shiki as a character, and The Garden of Sinners as a series, just holds a special place in my heart as Nasu's first real creative work that remains untethered by the requirements of a visual novel. If Nasu's work on the VNs is the base level, then The Garden of Sinners stands a cut above from start to finish.
Hatsuseno Alpha - Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou
Tumblr media
A robot that is startlingly human, but surprisingly childlike. Alpha was is just the perfect vehicle to experience YKK through. Vast understanding and interest, but meaningful naivete and curiosity. She explores a world peacefully accepting its death, and is able to pull such beautiful moments from it. She doesn't struggle or bemoan the end, but rather takes it in stride and focuses on the beauty of humanity, how it's adapted, what's been lost and what's been created in its stead. It brings it all together under this character that is so deeply passionate about exploring life even under these circumstances, that you can't help but feel an indescribable warmth in her story.
Biwa - Heike Monogatari
Tumblr media
Okay, maybe I'm cheating a little bit with Biwa here, but it's just a character that I think is incredibly beautiful. Witnessing the murder of her father, she's taken in by a clan doomed to death, where a man possesses a similar ability to Biwa. Together, she struggles to create the family she never had, all the while forced to come to terms with their deaths. She fights tooth and nail to keep them alive, but her attempts are futile. In the end, she is given her adoptive father's ability and completes what one might call the "cycle". Seeing life and death, the eternal struggle that will never change, she experiences her life, her family, her future and past to its fullest, and commits her life to telling the story of the Heike that she was so fond of. It's a beautiful story centered around Biwa's experiences, and her fear of death and not having a family, truly wonderful stuff. Also Aoi Yuuki kills it as Biwa.
Kusanagi Motoko - Ghost In The Shell
Tumblr media
This was baby's first big kid series for me. I'd always watched anime here and there, but mostly things like Bleach/Naruto/DBZ. Ghost in The Shell was the first really big series I'd dip my toes into via those 4 minute YouTube videos at 480p. Kusanagi's nature as the bridge between technology and humanity is endlessly explored and just such a great idea, that through the countless (good) iterations, there's a wealth of her to experience. Undoubtedly an iconic series, and one that's certainly remembered very fondly by me.
Kirigoe Mima - Perfect Blue
Tumblr media
Mima's an incredible character driven to the psychological breaking point. Under the scrutiny and pressure of being an idol, the facade begins to crack and what seeps out from the gaps is nothing short of incredible. Satoshi Kon remains a wizard in what he did with his works, and for me, Mima's character in Perfect Blue is the pinnacle of that. An implicit story of the stress and strain placed on idols (and the entertainment industry at large) by those that string them up and sell the souls of these girls, Perfect Blue and Mima remain in a realm of their own in a lot of ways.
Nozomi - Sonny Boy
Tumblr media
Well as they say, the proof is in the pudding, and the pudding in this case is Nozomi's name. Translating from Japanese it means "wish" or "desire" in English, and is the personification of Nozomi's role in Sonny Boy. As close to a catalyst as one can be, she spurs on the wishes of the characters around her, providing the foundation for our main character Nagara to grow and develop. In the end, the desires of each individual can be connected to Nozomi, even in her death. She's arguably more central to the plot of Sonny Boy than Nagara, so of course I see her as a deeply special character.
Kamikoshi Sorawo - Otherside Picnic
Tumblr media
A somewhat different pick to help round out the list. Sorawo Kamikoshi, and Otherside Picnic at large, are certainly things that I don't think most people would fall in love with. But I did. The vitriol that her character expresses, the toxicity and self hatred and destruction. Her character is a very damaging and "bad" one, but that's what I love about it. There's no grand scheme behind Sorawo's personality, or any ideal that her character chases. She follows the whims and curiosities of her life as she willingly casts herself into the abyss of the Otherside alongside Toriko, and along the way, she learns to slowly grow and improve as a person while maintaining her core personality.
Osaki Nana - Nana
Tumblr media
The duality of Nana as a character is just so well done to me. A character with two sides isn't anything special, but I think the way that Yazawa approaches her as a character, and introduces those cracks in her façade and the struggle that they represent is just really, really good. It has me really desperate for Yazawa to return from hiatus and continue on with Nana.
And that's the list. I know I've left off characters like Tohru or other massively popular (and well written) leads and characters from shojosei series, but a lot of what I desire out of a character can't quite be found in a lot of what ends up popular and translated (and what I tend to remember) I feel. If you take a look at the list, for example, you'll find that the majority of my favorites are from older series, as well as ones that feature more "tragic" or "twisted" characters. Personally, I find a flower most beautiful after you've understood how it's wilted and withered before it fights to bloom once more. Endless blooms that grant an eternal summer are undeniably beautiful, but that beauty tends to lack context and in turn can become simplicity. So that's my list, as imperfect and everchanging as it is. If I'm asked once more in a year, it will probably look startlingly different, but that's how these things will go with me.

In honor of the books I picked up today that I ordered a week ago (finally got more kimi ni todoke!!), what series of manga can you see some of our haikyuu favs reading? Or if not manga what kinds of books can you see them reading, YA, thriller, mystery, etc. Feel free to pick whomever you want for hcs, I humbly ask for Tanaka thou <3
A/N: Look at you getting two answered in one day, it's like you own my ask box at this point bestie lmao but yes I have so many vibes for this one, okay <3
TAGS: manga/reading headcanons, fluff, general
CHARACTERS: Tendou Satori, Tanaka Ryuunosuke, Kenma Kozume, honourable mentions at the end
TENDOU SATORI
Okay so we know he used to collect shonen jump magazine when it was around in a physical form. I say he was a subscription owner who would get each issue.
He strikes me as the kind of guy who likes collecting things. Especially artsy types things like his movies. Especially in physical form so his shonen jumps are no different.
He's a constant but casual reader in terms of what he keeps up with in terms of series.
By that I mean he's not like 'OMG I NEED TO READ ALL OF ONE PIECE I'LL BE SO UPSET IF I MISS ONE CHAPTER.' Absolutley not. He's a casual One Piece fan. I know it seems like they don't exist because once you're in you're in BUT HE IS.
He enjoys reading it, don't get me wrong, it's just he's not tearing the issue open for the next chapter.
Tendou's an allrounder with his reading. Will try everything in the issue. Really liked The Disastrous Life of Saiki K the year it was published! He just vibed hard with it.
With Shonen Jump, he's collected it forever so he's read all the early 2000's classics like Naruto, Bleach and Death Note. He watches the anime too.
Outside of the shonen jump I feel like the only manga he would go out of his way to purchase and read would be something of the horror vein because he's a horror fan.
The first time he went into a manga store and saw the covers of the Junji Ito works he HAD to know what they were about. Started with one and ended up collecting them all.
Still prefers watching horror and thrillers over reading them. There's just something more satisfying about cinematic terrors BUT he does enjoy his small collection of manga too.
He just over all prefers reading manga to chill out. Which is why his go to is more the popular shonen series.
Tendou is pretty good with recs too! If you handed him a romance and told him it was the best series in the world and he had to read it he would. He doesn't care, you like it so why wouldn't he? It's just not something he would usually pick up for himself.
He's pretty good at recommending things too. If you're unsure he'll just hand you a shonen jump mag and tell you to go nuts. Just don't read the ads like Ushiwaka please, he can't handle another one. lmao.
Hanging out with Tendou as teens reading manga together would honestly be the best lowkey date every. Just vibing in each others company. Probably watching anime together after too.
TANAKA RYUUNOSUKE
I see Tanaka as more of a manga reader too over anything lengthy like novels. He just doesn't have the discipline to sit there and read for long periods of time.
This is why studying is so hard for him! He just gets bored! Would rather be doing something where he can move around.
Definitely doesn't mind picking up a manga every now and again though.
Now as for what he reads. Well. Here's the things. He's actually a real softy at heart and a sucker for romance.
How does he discover this? Totally by accident, he swears.
He went in to pick up a couple shonen series and the shonen jump issue (he doesn't have a subscription he just picks it up on occassion) and the cashier accidentally mixed up a shoujo series into the bag that was on the counter on the side.
Tanaka didn't realise until he got home and for some reason he just never bothered returning it. He had paid for it after all. He might as well read it.
The thing is once he did, he couldn't put it down! He had to read another and another. He was hooked. And what was this serious? Well guess what it was also Kimi ni Todoke!
That gets him hooked on Shoujo romances and has him going in buying more series. He buys one for every two shonen series he gets, hiding it under them at the casier mentally telling them 'They're totally for my sister.' as if they can read his mind.
Doesn't get too embarassed if you ask him about it though it's just an awkward flush of the cheeks and 'Yeah, I like them.' Because Tanaka is one to stay true to himself.
Okay but because he reads a lot of it he kind of gets real sappy ideas about romance and dating.
All those ideas about being a gentlemen? Carrying your bad, walking on the side of the sidewalk closest to the road, standing in front of you during confrontations? All further reinforced by reading those manga.
Has a cute little blushy face when he reads the confession scenes too. Hopes to be that cool when he confesses on day.
If you like manga he really likes sharing that with you. Going to bookstores together, he vibes on just watching you browse with a content look on your face.
Will buy you anything you want. Even if its a whole stack. Tanaka is slamming those bills down and paying. Anything to make you happy and see that smile on your face.
KENMA KOZUME
Kenma started reading and collecting manga when his parents forced him to have a hobby other than gaming. Something about resting his eyes from screens.
He did already sort of like reading manga anyway. Was into series like the legend of zelda because of the game. Also collects the standard shonen jump series like one piece, hunter x hunter and naruto too.
The thing about Kenma is he started out with the popular stuff and then he branched out and collected a bit of everything the more he read.
He has a bit of everything from each demographic. Has your Sailormoon, Fruits basket and NANA from your shoujo. Josei like Chihayafuru, shonen/seinin like JoJo's bizarre adventure, fullmetal alchemist, AOT, Gintama, Tokyo Ghoul.
As time goes on he'll collect ones like Given, I hear the sunspot and Blue Flag too.
Likes going to art stalls and places he can collect fan djs and art books too. Isn't really big on chit chat but will say a sweet 'I like your work.' Then pays and scurries off with a little happy face.
Like buying work of his favourite games and characters at the same time. Especially at conventions. Hates the crowds but finds this worth it.
Appreciates being able to do these things with you. Bonus if you like doing them too. If you simply go just to be with him he'll just swoon lol.
Back to the manga. He likes the anime adaptions too but doesn't always get a lot of time to watch them. Prefers games after all. If he does though he prefers to watch the anime after he's read the manga.
Loves watching the anime as a way to spend time with you though after you both have read the manga. Loves being able to compare and criticise it together. Just cuddling and vibing.
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Reads books/manga: Semi Eita, Kuroo Tetsurou, Yamaguchi Tadashi, Yaku Morisuke
Reads manga: Hinata Shouyou, Atsumu Miya, Kunimi Akira, Hoshiumi Korai, Nishinoya Yuu, Kindaichi Yuutarou
Reads books: Sugawara Koushi, Yachi Hitoka, Oikawa Tooru, Kita Shinsuke
Reads food packaging and social media: Kageyama Tobio, Suna Rintarou, Kiyoko Shimizu

Warning for mention of abuse
Tumblr media
This isn't too relevant to my main point, but I am interested in the MBTI and decided to break down Goemon's personality from both the manga and the anime. Something interesting I've found is that they have the same personality (INFJ), and extremely similar enneagrams (Manga - 2w1, Anime - 1w2). However, the similarities do not end there. After thinking about it, and going over the manga and anime's canon, it seems that Goemon from the manga and anime are in fact the same person (in more than just name), but with different responses to trauma. I personally headcanon that both started off as warm, loving individuals who were abused into becoming the people they are today (as evident by Anime Goemon's subtle yet deep compassion and care for others, that really begins to show itself once Momochi is dead and he makes true friends). I want to go over what I have concluded, and would like to hear other's insights. (Also please tell me if I have gotten anything about Manga Goemon wrong, Anime Goemon is my area of expertise)
Tumblr media
I will begin by going over their core similarities:
Both grew up in abusive homes, and this in turn has had an impact on their social skills and relationships with others (Manga Goemon strengthened his social skills and became extremely kind and warm, while Anime Goemon's social skills suffered and he became colder)
Both have the same core values in regards to friendship, justice, and various other morals
Both present a dishonest version of themselves to the world as a defense mechanism (more on this later, but Manga Goemon pretends he's okay when he's not, while Anime Goemon pretends he wasn't hurt in the first place)
Both want people in their lives, and for someone to care about them
Both do not want to needlessly kill despite being assassins (in the anime, this can be seen with Goemon putting off killing Lupin and showing a "demonstration of mercy" which allowed Lupin to get away), and do not belong in the profession
Both are disturbed by their master's cruel treatment of the bird
Both have healed from their trauma by letting people into their lives
Both have inappropriate emotional outbursts, due in part to their underlying trauma (Manga Goemon can be stuck up on justice and honesty, while Anime Goemon can be easily angered by minor inconveniences)
Now, as for differences:
Tumblr media
Manga Goemon:
Is overly accommodating
Needs to be with others, even if they violate his values (he merely swapped his masters for Lupin, rather than going off on his own)
Sacrifices his needs to be with others
Suppresses his feelings with a smile
Is afraid of being alone
Pretends he's happy when he's not
Tumblr media
As for Anime Goemon:
He is overly hostile
He pushes people away too easily, if he feels his independence or morals are at risk
He sacrifices his relationships with others to be himself
He suppresses his feelings with anger
He is afraid of being hurt
He pretends he's stoic when he's not (a great example of this was in Episode 13 when Lupin faked his death, he initially felt devastated until snapping back to his usual demeanor when he realized that Jigen was watching him, and it makes me wonder if Momochi had any part in "training" him to do this)
They are like mirror versions of one another, with one taking in the world to heal from trauma, and the other pushing out the world. Manga Goemon is heavily dependent on relationships with others to feel stable, and alters himself to be of use and worth keeping around. Anime Goemon is heavily dependent on his independence to feel stable, and alters his relationships to maintain his autonomy. Manga Goemon responds to trauma with happiness and putting on a smile, while Anime Goemon responds to trauma with anger.
The interesting thing though is that both approaches are flawed. Manga Goemon does not find a happy ending from the continuous suppression of his morals and feelings, and he loses himself for the sake of ensuring that he is loved and has someone, anyone, in his life. Anime Goemon's attempts at isolating himself from the world make him miserable and unhappy, in stark contrast to the joyful and silly person he normally is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anime Goemon, however, does find a happy ending. He gradually works on allowing people into his life over the course of Part 1, and directly addresses his flaws and shortcomings. He works on his anger by maintaining his calm and trusting in Lupin, which is demonstrated in the train conductor episode. He works on allowing others into his life, and gradually spends more time with Lupin and friends. He becomes much more emotionally expressive, with lines such as "We're afraid of him, too." He is no longer as afraid of being hurt, and is willing to take the risk for the sake of friendship, love, and intimacy. He gradually becomes less stoic, and openly displays his joy at silly things like impersonating a police officer, or a chef, or a edo period samurai.
Tumblr media
I love how Part 1 has this subtle message of it being possible to recover from trauma, and that better times await for those who keep trying. As for Manga Goemon, he needs a hug

(THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE CONTROL DEVIL ARC AND CSM PART 2)
OKAY SO HERE IT IS! So can i request platonic hcs of Nayuta x best friend human reader. So in the manga, it is said that Nayuta goes to public school. So what if she meets someone that looks to be around her age and later becomes best friends with her. The both of them are inseperable, they do everything together. Also i like to think that the reader would sometimes joins Nayuta on walking the dogs while they just talk about anything
How would Denji react to Nayuta’s best friend who is overall a positive influence to Nayuta?
Also would Nayuta reveal that she is a devil to her best friend?
Thought i should send a fluffy request rn. Hope this is alright and have a good day/night!
(Also quick question, since your now reluctant to do HSR, does that mean my other 2 requests i sent before are on hold or what? If it is, im okay with that. Just take your time)
- Flower anon 🌸
-----♡
A/N: Hey there! I absolutely love this idea! Nayuta is so cute and I love the way she interacts with Denji! So thank you for the fluffy request!<33
Also, like I said previously, I cleared out my entire inbox before going into a break to reduce stress!
Content: SPOILERS FOR THE CONTROL DEVIL ARC!, Fluff, Platonic relationships, kid reader, sfw
Reader has no set pronouns!
((Not fully proofread))
-----♡
Tumblr media
Nayuta didn't know what to really think of you at first. To her, you were just another kid in her class, nothing too special. She respected you as her classmate and that was about it for a while, until she saw you drawing some cute dogs in your notebook during class. She sat next to you, wide eyes watching with curiosity and interest, as your hand moved across the paper.
She complimented your talent and you thanked her with a smile, telling her that dogs were your favourite animal. She warmed up to you pretty fast after that and eventually asked you to join her on walking her dogs. Denji was a little confused, when he saw her eagerly getting ready and seemingly in a much lighter mood than usual. "What are you so happy about?" "Wouldn't you like to know?" She sasses with a huff, but at the sight of you happily greeting her and Denji for the walk, the older boy quickly realised what was happening.
He couldn't help but smile, glad to see Nayuta finally having a good friend, as he waved you both a small goodbye. He also hoped you'd be a good influence on her. She really needed someone to show her how to be normal human kid and surely you could help her with that. You began visiting Nayuta alot, always playing together with her dogs and talking to Denji, who you considered pretty cool, despite Nayuta finding him annoying sometimes.
Nayuta eventually begins calling you her bestfriend too, just like you did with her. You two knew everything about eachother and never had any secrets... except for the one single thing that Nayuta kept from you. She wasn't the one to care much about what other people really thought of her. But things were different with you. And her being a devil could possibly ruin the friendship with you that she loved so much.
It takes her months of friendship to finally feel safe and confident enough to tell you and when she does, she's surprised at how casual you are with it. You don't judge her for it, nor seem to care all too much either. Nayuta is Nayuta to you, devil or not. She's surprised by your acceptance, but figured she shouldn't have expected anything else either.
You're her best friend after all.
-----♡
A/N: Alright, I hope this is okay! Thank you again for the request, it's great to write smth not hsr related!<33

Travel Blog Anime Festival Kassel! - Part 1
27.-28. October 2023
The last convention for me this year, read further for my impression of this event which was held in Kassel for the first time, me being super chaotic, enjoying things and attending the cosplay competition.
And yes I was totally going as past!Allen the times I was "not" in costume as my glasses are round too and I had to put on the shirt/waistcoat anyways. I just HC him as an explorer when he goes to places, its my kind of having silly little fandom moments. But now to the travel blog.
Friday, Travel & Coming 'home'
Tumblr media
Travel day. I started a bit chaotic from home and later than planned but rain was forecasted the whole day and a serious hiking day was not really possible. I noticed I forgot my phone charger as I was already out and my first mission was to buy a replacement. As I arrived in Kassel I had to take a reroute as there was so much traffic but I know the city and its corners it was fine to me. All the familar places and ... I just felt home. For 19 years my favorite convention was held in Kassel until it moved to Wiesbaden this year and I was completely devastated how they handled it and left Kassel crying last year and I am just so SO happy to be able to return.
I quickly checked into the Hotel and went to the convention hall and just the feeling of seeing it again made me so content, even with the rain, the cold weather, the phone charger etc. AND the fact the Con contacted me that my script for the Contest has to be changed as there was some equipment different.
Tumblr media
I went through the park and was just thriving. Then into the city checking a few places, actually got a charger after asking the sales manager of a itty bitty corner store if they have some - i was super proud I did that, past-me would have given up and just searched for a big electronic store to drive to to avoid talking to people.
Tumblr media
As I walked back to the hall I came across a very fancy bakery/café I had discovered last year and they sold halloween themed confectonary again and ... this time I actually bought some. I dared to go in there and bought two petit fours and even as the seller asked me something twice I was just casually replying I am .. so proud. You know I suffer from severe social anxiety and a situation like this would have been enough to break me for a whole weekend, on top with the charger thing. But I was managing well. It was quite late then as I got back to the hall but still decided to ask if I could get my ticket for the next two days already to avoid waiting. Another step further for me, usually I would have chickened out. Everyone there was very darling I am looking forward on how they organize the actual convention days.
Tumblr media
Back in the hotel I had (very late) dinner, but I was just mentally in such a good place that it didn't mess with my head.
Saturday - 28. October - Contest day
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Slept okay for the fact I usually sleep bed when not home, super excited for the day. But took it slow, went through my script a few times (finally after not doing so for the last days) to recall it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then headed out to Kassel to fetch a few things, I like to give myself small tasks to have something to do when I am alone. Like just getting some snacks.
Tumblr media
After returning to my car I started painting... my make up. I actually avoid doing a lot of make up for Allen as my eyes hate it and I don't think he is a make up type but as it was for the contest I wanted to upgrade everything a little bit.
It was starting to rain again and ... someone please remind me more often that the first Uniform has a HOOD I can use. I ... will come back to that later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After a bit of waiting time due bag control I finally was able to enter the hall. It felt again like home but also different. When you came in you had several vendors, Manga, Merch, some artists inbetween. Even a tattoo artist?! And like at the Polaris you had several vendors of dried fruit... ehm.. okay? Like I am always for more healthy options aside the vendors selling tons of asian candies and ramen.
What I really liked about the structure they had for the hall is that they actually used the hallways better than the other con, less "lost" space. Yes they have a smaller audience but it seemed so much smarter to me to use the hallways for artists instead of putting them into super small rooms with no space to move in.
For the vendors and all there was .. lots of Genshin Impact again and Demon Slayer I think? I am a bit spoiled by the last cons especially the bookfair and the polaris in regards of a great diversity of artists, this was alright I guess. Not much for me to buy.
Tumblr media
What was interesting is that the city had rented the hall to another convention but for ... doctors. Weird, but worked. As I got recognized as Allen later on I was able to talk with the two and one told me a few interesting things about the Con that moved to Wiesbaden and some facts that the Anime Festival will be bigger next year. I got encouraged to voice my opinion more often by them, as all they heard was only positive about the other Con (they didn't attend as well... reasons).
Tumblr media
Then .. the contest. I was quite nervous, got in my snacks and some lunch before I went to prejudging. Was able to chat with the other attendees during the wait and was quite a lil hyper bunny as it was my turn. I have to say the judges were super darling about everything. They were all cosplayers, some super expierenced and one even a super huge name here. I got complimented for my make up (which I adjusted a bit more after lunch) to try to get my lashes white and all. That I made pockets, that the uniform has a lining, that the pattern was selfmade and the functional buttons. etc.
Tumblr media
We were supposed to meet up 30 mins later, I waited with No. 6 (I was No 4) and got a bubble tea because my anxious mind needed something to do and I was super thirsty. I downed it so fast they went "WAIT HOW". Haha. I am used to drink a lot.
After it we were brought to the backstage and it seemed to take forever until it was my turn. No 3 before my was in a wheelchair and the crew did a great job to help her getting up the stage and stairs. And with the applause I was sure they would get the 1st rank. They did a performance as Sheego from Kim Possible.
Tumblr media
My turn was. I walked, babbled my text, actually looked at the audience and noticed it was indeed THE MOST BIGGEST STAGE they have and the whole room was full of people, I had to improvise a bit as I was not able to stuff everything into Tim but I managed well.
I was super proud and watched the rest of the contest in the audience (they had seats reserved for us). Overall it was 10 performances. The majority was voice clips/moving to them, or just music and doing a dance/pose.
Mine was actually a small sketch that was Allen looking out for Timcampy, finding and scolding him for flying away. All during the search for Cross. Then I asked the audience if they had seen the master and showed my drawing of him. Then I scolded Tim for not getting my stuff back in as I was handling too many things at once. Haha.
Tumblr media
The ranking later on was well, place 3 was a huge ass Spamalot/Monty Python and the Holy Grail Group and I was sure they will be ranked. 2nd was the Sheego, whom I had seen on 1. And 1 was a Kiki (Kiki's delivery service), I found hers rather boring to be honest as it was just an english voice clip that didn't fit the outfit or any acting at all, but well, Ghibli and cutesty bonus I guess. I would have seen others ranked.
Later on I went to pick up where I got ranked but ... in fact the voting system was hacked/there were annormalities and therefore there was no ranking other than the main 3.
I talked with some other of the contestants about the results and all were quite baffled. The two started last even said the results were not into their favor anyways as the moderators procrastinated 5 minutes to get them on stage and the majority indeed already had voted.
One last thing here: I am amazed by the positive words I got, that the performance was good and that you couldn't tell that it was my first time joining a contest, that I should do it more often. This really means a lot to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The rest of the day was me strolling through the halls & park again, sometimes in the park too. But the weather was not that good, it was raining a lot. I was torn about getting a maple themed bowl but as I got to really buying it it was sold out, so I got the chestnut kitkats I had eyes all the time.
I noticed I was super done for the day, there were several concerts left but I was just feeling the day and the snacks weren't holding me longer. But it was pouring... and the food vendors were outside.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After another 30 minutes I remembered I HAVE A HOOD and quickly went to the car to scrub the make up off my face and get some cotton pads from the store along with something to go with my instant noodles + tofu I had brought along. I wanted to eat in peace and not cramped outside in the rain.
Tumblr media
The day ended for me in the hotel, tired, exhausted but quite well. What annoyed me though was that there was an event with a live band in the hotel. Good bye sleep.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ending the day with food in the hotel, my little haul from stores and the fact the make up refused to get off. I would have some "fun" the coming days with that.

Pika Rambles about the new OP because why not
If there’s anything I’ve learned from season 6 of MHA, it’s that whatever Twitter’s reaction is to something, I’m likely to have the opposite reaction.
I’m not often one to go into my opinions on things in MHA I feel are “good” or “bad.” Sometimes it happens, but just generally I’ve been trained to read and analyze a lot of things without respect to whether or not I like them or agree with their philosophies. I’m usually trying to understand a story more than anything.
But OPs are a different matter.
I have a weird thing for OPs. I’ve watched many over the years, and in some cases even decided whether or not I would watch an anime based on its OPs. (I’ve also...made a lot of AMVs.) OPs are supplementary material that are opportunities for animators to showcase their creativity and their understanding of the story’s themes. For that reason, I’ll happily ramble about my love for MHA OPs 1-4 and 7 anytime (god, especially 7; I’ll never get over the candy apple sakuga).
This time, OP 11, the ramble isn’t a good one. “What? Really? But everyone agrees it’s the shiniest one yet! Is it just that weird Ochako shit they threw in there?” No, stock anon. It’s so much more than that.
I have opinions.
If you like OP 11...you may not want to read my thoughts under the cut.
I’m just gonna complain in list form from here have fun.
1. First, all the good: I like the song. I realize not everyone’s gonna like the song, but I happen to like it. I also like some of the OP, particularly the first bits of it before the title card drops. I think it’s a good use of some of the cover/non-story artwork Horikoshi drew during this arc. Except already saying that, I can’t help but notice a huge missed opportunity. This cover art would’ve made for an EXCELLENT theme in the OP:
Tumblr media
It would’ve made up for the egregious lack of All Might too.
2. That title card is awful. Come on. They used to do fun things with the design or colors or something. This is just...weird effects that maybe will cause someone a seizure. It’s certainly not pleasing to the eye.
3. I don’t have a problem with the split screen bit. It’s not great, but it’s not terrible. Except the animation they give Ochako was basically already used in OP 8 so I don’t know what that’s all about.
4. All the Lady Nagant art is super lame sorry why do they repeat the same angle and pose twice? They could have used other camera angles at least, or even do something more with her younger self and angst? This is about as one-note as her actual role in the story (okay maybe it fits then).
5. I don’t need to complain about the weird ship bait that is the Ochako scene in the way everyone else already has done for me. I have a pressing urge to bring up though that Bones once again shows their lack of creativity here, and it feels like they have a vendetta against Ochako too. Where is her action shot? Her sakuga? There are plenty of moments from this arc that could’ve made a much nicer action shot here. Her smile is so weird because this whole arc she’s getting serious for Izuku’s sake and frowns at him a lot and stands up to him essentially. This feels like heroine-ization and it’s awful. Ochako does much more impactful and moving shit this arc than whatever the hell this is.
6. How dare you cheapen the hand-holding symbol of this series do you even know what the fuck is happening in this manga??? [clings to Iida’s leg]
7. The sakuga of Izuku swinging around is okay, probably the best part of the OP--except then we run into the Lady Nagant issue again
8. What the fuck is the weird white corpse from AoT doing here? What? What is that? Hello?
9. It needs to be said: the sakuga of Iida et. al. looks like absolute ass. I’m sick of fandom just salivating for nothing but sakuga while having absolutely no standards. “Action lines? Cool angles? Speedy animation? Yay it’s perfect!” No, seriously, if everyone’s gonna be so critical of the story and animation and pacing all the time, where’s your criticism of the actual sakuga? This shot looks awful and no one is talking about it. Not only do all the characters involved move awkwardly, you can’t even tell who they are. I wish we could have seen better highlights of the characters themselves, their faces even, including Shigaraki’s. YEAH THAT’S RIGHT. THEY’RE FIGHTING SHIGARAKI IN THAT SHOT. DID YOU EVEN NOTICE? YOU PROBABLY THOUGHT IT WAS IZUKU, RIGHT? SEE HOW DUMB THIS IS? IT MAKES NO SENSE FOR THAT TO BE SHIGARAKI EITHER, BUT IT IS. GO PAUSE A FRAME AND CHECK IT OUT. The special effects of their super attacks at the end also look like ass. This was the worst sakuga we’ve seen since the third movie and I am not impressed and I’m mad other people are.
10. Epilepsy colors Izuku is also terrible sakuga he’s so off-model it hurts I can’t stand watching this bit.
11. The Izuku+Tenko sequence is nice and a good show of creativity, and yet Izuku also looks off-model and I can’t stand how this is NOT the right season for this imagery. So that makes this a spoiler, basically? It doesn’t belong here. I like the subtle hint at the OFA star with the sun glare behind Izuku’s offered hand, but still this feels like they have no idea what this arc is about.
12. Exhibit #999999 that it feels like the animators have no idea what’s up with this arc: the ending image of Izuku doing the All Might fist in the air pose. Like, maybe it works if you read it as “he’s able to represent All Might because everyone else is there with him,” but it just doesn’t...feel right. It’s not earned based on the rest of the OP. Why couldn’t we just have them all be around the All Might statue? I don’t know what are you all even thinking when you draw this shit

“A Dance with the Devil” | Dabi x Reader
Tumblr media
Fandom: My Hero Academia  Pairing: Dabi x Reader Words: 6.2k
A/N: This is my very first attempt at writing for a non AoT character, and of course it had to be this guy! On my recent rewatch of MHA to prepare for Season 6 my crush on him was reignited (no pun intended I swear) and now with recent events in the anime and manga I’ve fallen into a hole I can’t seem to get out of. I started this as some basic angst/comfort, but it quickly morphed into something I couldn’t really stop writing. So here’s roughly 6k words of shameless self-indulgent comfort, fluff, flirting, suggestive talk, and awkward pining over some cigarettes and booze. The title’s partially inspired by that “dance with the devil in the pale moonlight” quote, honestly I had a really tough time coming up with a title for this because titles aren’t my thing! But I think it works for what it is. This is also my first time writing for him so I apologize if it’s a little choppy in some places; but I hope you guys enjoy! Oh and happy birthday Dabi you menace to society!
Warnings: mostly SFW, smoking, alcohol consumption, suggestive language, Reader can be very insecure at times, Dabi is an asshole but he tries his best to comfort Reader, this is just very self indulgent and I want to give him a hug and maybe a kiss or two
Tumblr media
He’s waiting for you on the rooftop, in your usual spot at the edge. A lit cigarette hanging from his fingertips, flicking the ash down on the city streets below. At the scuffle of your shoes on the stone he shoots you his trademark smirk, motioning to the tiny cooler at his heels.
“About time you showed up.” You give him a shrug as he settles down on the edge with his legs dangling below, practically pulling you down to join him. “Worried you might skip out on me, doll.”
“I had…” Your throat runs dry beneath that burning blue gaze. “…Just had some shit to do.”
He reaches into the cooler and pulls out a beer for himself, before pressing a bottle of cider into your palms. He’s always teased you for your dislike of beer—the way your face scrunches up at the tiniest drop on your tongue, the way it seems to suck out every bit of moisture from your mouth. It took you guys a while to find a drink that didn’t make your insides squirm. Finally settling on a brand of hard cider that was too sweet for his taste, but gave you just the right amount of liquid courage to keep these little midnight trysts afloat.
The bottle opener hanging from your keys trembles against your fingers; you can barely fit the cap into the little slit before Dabi’s hands close over your own, snapping it off in one swift movement. You mumble a quick thanks before tipping back the bottle, hoping to drown out the low chuckle he gives in liquid fire. Or the sight of that damn cigarette barely hanging on between his lips.
“Thought my presence didn’t make you blush anymore,” he croons, and all you can think of is how to make the alcohol work any faster than it already does. “Nice to see it still works, though.”
“It doesn’t…”
But your voice dies in your throat as you nurse the bottle close to your chest, counting the lights of the city sprawled below. It used to be able to calm you down, sitting up here at night, with or without the company of someone else. But tonight it’s different, and no matter how many sips of cider slide down your throat, you can still feel that heavy weight against your chest.
Crushing you until you can barely breathe. Reminding you of just how tired you are, how much of a failure you can be—how much you already are—
“Doll.”
Your jaw tightens when you look over at him. His fingers are already tracing the fabric of your jacket, just above your shoulder.
“…Yeah?”
“You’re quiet tonight.”
“Oh… It’s okay, I’m—”
“Tell me what’s bothering you.”
Oh.
You clear your throat again before raising the bottle one more time. “Nothing’s bothering me, I’m fine. I promise!” It’s the same lie you tell yourself every other day, hoping that just this time, it’ll actually be true. “Nothing you have to worry about, I swear. I’m all—ah!”
His palm is suddenly pressed against the mouth of the bottle, your lips barely brushing over the skin of his knuckles. You yank yourself back as far as you can—with his arm still around you of course—as he plucks the drink from your hands and holds it up to his face. The glass glints against the moonlight, painting his face in a pretty amber shade.
“More than halfway done. You never drink this much this fast. So tell me,” his voice is deeper now, making you tremble all over again, “what’s bothering you?”
Fuck, he’s right! You’re not the fastest when it comes to drinking alcohol—you both know he comes in first in that regard. But from the looks of his beer on the slab of stone beside him, he’s probably had three or four sips tops. And here you are making a fool of yourself, knocking it back like you’re some idiotic girl who’s just gone through her first breakup.
“…I didn’t think you were that observant, Dabi,” you try to brush him off with a laugh, but it only makes him tighten his grip on your shoulder. And then your insides are twisting up again, your fingers itching to grab ahold of something.
Answer him already. He’s caught you, it’s too late to try to save this.
“…Just had a shit day at work… Well, a shit week, more like it.”
But how is that different from any other week at work? It’s always the same, every day rolling by as slowly as possible, little events and annoyances piling up on top of one another until the tears start spilling. Until the weight in your chest becomes too much to handle, and you end up shutting yourself away from the rest of the world to scream into your hands—or a pillow, whatever’s closest to you at the moment.
But it’s not just work—sometimes it’s the neighbors across the hall or next door, others it’s family members with their incessant poking and prodding, or maybe it’s just a random stranger on the street who’s too focused with their own problems to make room for anyone else’s.
Grin and bear it. Be as nice as you can be. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Everyone likes to see a smile, right? So smile until you can’t, until your face begins to ache.
Even if they don’t always smile back.
“I’m just…tired. And I know I shouldn’t be, but I guess I am.” Fuck, why are you even telling him all of this? It’s not like he cares, right?
He’s got more pressing matters to deal with. More important things to worry about, besides your sudden change of mood.
“Sorry, I know I’m being stupid…” Your tongue feels thick against your lips, nails biting into the skin of your palms.
“It’s not stupid if it’s makin’ you this upset.” He drags his thumb below your eye, catching a lone tear before it can fall down your cheek.
No, don’t cry, don’t you fucking start, not now, please not now!
“I…”
You swallow hard and reach for the bottle, whimpering as he holds it just out of arm’s length. You don’t want to feel like this anymore—like you’re a burden, a child, so fucking helpless you have to be coddled.
“One more—just one more sip—”
“Not if you’re gonna suck it all down one go.”
His voice is firm, almost enough to get you to stop reaching for the bottle. But he’s quick to place it down beside his beer, before catching your wrists in his hands. You can’t bear to look him in the eye, instead staring down at the line of staples holding his hands together. Your cheeks are flared up as he leans in close; you can practically taste the smoke on his breath from the cigarette he’s been nursing all night. The same one that’s currently burning on the rim of his beer can, lying forgotten as he brings you close to his chest.
“B-but I—”
“’S fine,” he mumbles, pressing his scarred cheek against your temple.
You snap your mouth shut. What is he doing? He’s never this tender, never one to initiate any kind of touch on his own, unless it’s inherently sexual. The closest you’ve ever gotten was holding hands when the nights got too cold—and he wouldn’t let you live it down as you sat there in your apartment shivering, at least three blankets already wrapped around your shoulders, practically begging for him to warm you up.
He’s never shown any physical interest in you like this, apart from the constant flirting and lighthearted smirks he’s thrown your way over the last year or so you’ve known each other. Never gripped your arms or kissed your cheek or even hugged you. Apart from tugging you down onto the couch and pressing his chest against your back. But you know better than to think there’s more to those touches. You know better than to expect that kind of affection from a man like Dabi.
So then…why now?
With a shaky breath, you squeeze your eyes shut and begin to speak. “I’m just…tired and pissed. Tired of being the only one around here who seems to give a damn. Tired of feeling like nothing I do is good enough—no matter how hard I try. It’s just so…fucking frustrating!”
Your eyes are no longer hot with tears; instead your nails are cutting into your palms, teeth bared against the chill of the night air.
“I try and try and smile as much as I can, but it never gets me anywhere, and I’m just so damn sick of it! And some people only make it worse—no, most people do! But if they don’t really care then why should I? Maybe that’s my fault though, for expecting too much from…”
Your voice dies in your throat when you feel a faint tremble against your fingers. You hadn’t realized that, in the midst of your ranting, you’d grabbed ahold of the lapels of Dabi’s jacket, and now the man was snickering against the top of your head as he cages you in against his chest.
…What the fuck?
“Fuckin’ hell, doll,” he breathes out in a gentle voice, “if I’d known you’d look as hot as you do when you’re pissed off I would’ve ramped it up ages ago.”
Is…is he serious? You roll your eyes and shove him away, nearly knocking over the pair of drinks resting at his side.
“Shut up! I’m practically pouring my heart out and all you can do is laugh, asshole!”
But you’re giggling alongside him, despite everything. It’s weak and pitiful, but at least you’re not crying anymore. And your chest does feel a bit lighter now…
You hold out your hands for the bottle of cider, putting on your best puppy dog pleading face…to no avail as he stubs out his forgotten cigarette and reaches into his coat pocket for a fresh one.
“Don’t know, doll. I don’t want you getting sick or passing out on me.”
“C’mon, just give it to me.” At least the air is less tense. The two of you are back to normal for now. “I won’t pass out, I’ll take it slow. Now give me the drink!”
“Mmm… Dunno.” He slips a second cigarette through his lips and lights it with the tiniest blue flame from the tip of his finger.
“You got it for me in the first place, it’s not like you’re gonna drink it yourself. Now give it to me!”
“You mean the drink or something else? ’Cause I can think of a couple other things to give you right now, dollface.”
“Stop it, you know that’s not what I mean!” You shove his shoulder as hard as you can, eliciting a smug laugh from his lips. “Come on now!”
But then he leans in close—so close you can spot the little rusting staples on the corners of his mouth. “Only if you say the magic word.”
“…You’re joking.”
“Not in the slightest.” And the little upward twitch of his eyebrow pushes you over the edge.
You groan and throw your hands up in defeat. “Such a pain in the ass, fine then! I’ll do it!” Acting like you’re fucking five years old again…
A deep breath fills your chest, as you shift your eyes to meet his own. He takes a drag of his cigarette, blowing a puff of smoke directly into your face.
“…Please? Pretty please?”
“Ooh, I love when you beg for me like that,” he says slyly, and just when you prepare to swat that stupid cigarette right out of his mouth, he’s hovering the bottle of cider over your outstretched palms. “Take it slow. No need to get yourself wasted for the wrong reasons, doll.”
You huff out a soft “thanks” before taking the smallest sip you can muster, well aware of those bright blue eyes on your body. When you’re done you let out a sigh, watching him as he takes another drag, a coil of smoke pooling past his mismatched lips.
“Although,” he continues with a smirk, “I like watching you speak your mind. Should do it more often; let everyone know what you really think of ’em.”
“Ah, I don’t know about that…” You clear your throat when some of the smoke slips past your nose. “I’m not…very good at that.”
“Seemed to be just fine a few minutes ago.”
“Yeah, well…I guess you’re the exception, then.” Unfortunately.
“Aww, I’m flattered.” He presses his hand to his chest, cigarette sealed between his fingers, and holds out his beer in the thin space between you. “So I’m just that special to ya, huh?”
“As if,” you murmur, clinking your drink against his own. “You just know how to push my buttons that much.”
Never mind the fact his face comes to mind practically every day of your life, even when you’re a handful of cities apart. Or the fact you keep the bathroom window unlocked every night just in case he decides to slip in for a quick visit. Or the rolls of gauze and bandages you have stuffed away under the bathroom sink, so you’re prepared if he ever comes in bleeding or burned beyond repair again.
The sly remarks, the taunting tone of voice—even the occasional dirty joke whispered against the shell of your ear. Every little bit of him just grinds your gears and makes your fingers curl. Sends a bolt of heat down your spine until you’re almost sure you’ll pass out…at least until he decides to shift that burning gaze onto something else instead.
“Anyway, how are the others?” Desperate to get his attention off you, despite the tiniest flutter in your chest. “The boss not running you too ragged, I hope?”
He shrugs his shoulders, stretching his arms above his head with a soft groan. The pit of your stomach flares up when the hem of his shirt rides up, showing a sliver of the scarred skin of his abdomen. “Not really, hasn’t been too demanding the last couple weeks.”
“That’s good to hear. At least you have some time to kill between jobs, too.”
“All the more reason to swing by here,” he adds, tapping his drink to yours before taking another sip.
You’re well aware of his less than favorable views of the world you live in, and the profession that comes along with them. It wasn’t hard to piece together; one too many refusals of going to the hospital rather than your tiny apartment when he needed some patching up led you to convince him to cough it up. Not that he shied away from villainous activities in your presence. Just spared you from the details of some of his more gruesome jobs. And at the end of the day, a small part of you is thankful for that, even after all this time.
The two of you slip into easy conversation between sips, a thin trail of smoke hovering over your heads. He keeps the names of his cohorts under wraps, as though they’re not blasted over the evening news every other day or so. You’ve only had the pleasure of meeting Toga, after she stubbornly—and not so stealthily—followed Dabi to one of your nightly meetups on this very rooftop. She’s not so bad, once you look past the sharpened blades strapped around her waist and thighs. A bit hyper and outgoing, but she can be a lot of fun to hang around with.
She’s always begging you to spend a girls’ night with her to talk about boys, but you know you’ll never hear the end of it from Dabi if you agreed—meeting up with a dangerous villain on your own, knowing full well they could kill you at any moment, and everything along those lines. He fails to see any irony in this; when you asked him about it one night, he simply slung his arm around your shoulders and pulled you in close.
“You said it yourself, doll, I’m the only exception around here.”
Still, once in a while you’ll get a text from an unknown number (probably one of those burner phones Dabi’s always using), and you’ll end up spending the rest of the night talking to Toga. She’s a great listener, too—and a master at keeping secrets. Even without the threat of a fiery demise, she’s promised not to spill to the rest of their little band about your relationship with Dabi.
If you can even call it that, at this point.
“Just so you know,” he breaks the silence with a grunt, “don’t look for me in the next week or so.” His voice is softer now, taking a longer drag from his cigarette than before. “Something’s come up, boss needs everyone this time.”
“Oh…okay.”
Your knuckles hurt from how hard you’re clutching the bottle. He never means it, whenever he gives a date like that. A few days could easily turn into a few months—a couple weeks at most, if you were lucky. Worst case scenario, this could very well be the last time you saw him.
Heroes did it all the time. How many sullen faces flashed over the news at night, sharing bittersweet memories of their loved ones lost to needless combat? You never saw yourself as a fan of heroes growing up, never even aspired to be one yourself. It wasn’t a lifestyle that appealed to you, with how isolated it seemed to be. And you were well aware of the risks that came with being one, or even caring for one.
It’s the same for any villain out there, maybe even more. Treat each day as though it’s your last. Otherwise you’ll end up cuffed and chained in a cell—or maybe even six feet underground. There’s no room for meaningless attachments or unwanted feelings. Squash those down now while you can, or you’ll regret it even more down the line.
This would be the sixth time Dabi’s left you. At least this time he’s given you a fair warning.
“…How long will you be gone?”
“Can’t say.” Another drag, just one more sip of his beer. The hollow sound it gives as he places it down makes you feel a bit better about your own drinking. At least I’m not the only one who’s almost finished. “No way of knowing how long this’ll take.”
“Oh.” Just drop it, you’ll only get yourself worked up. “…So no Toga either then, huh?”
He scoffs and rolls his eyes. “Sadly no—but she’s never gonna shut up about you until we get back. Little shit,” he adds under his breath.
“…Okay.”
This time he turns to look at you; you give him a smile, trying to ignore the swirling in the pit of your stomach.
“You don’t sound okay.”
“Hm? Nah, I’ll be fine. You got shit to do, I get it. I’ll just be waiting for you until you get back.”
If you come back.
It makes your stomach squirm, the thought of not having Dabi in your life anymore. He’s an asshole, no way around it. He’s the reason your couch constantly smells of burnt skin and smoke, the reason for all those bloody bandages clogging up the little trash can you have in the bathroom. He keeps you awake until the ungodly hours of early morning, has a habit of stealing snacks from the fridge whenever he pleases, and always has you on edge whenever you’re out in public. As though any random passerby will catch a whiff of smoke from your clothes and immediately trace it back to Dabi.
But he’s also the reason you’re not as scared walking home in the dark anymore. The reason you watch the sun go down with a smile, wondering if tonight he’ll stop by for a quick visit. The reason you’re not as lonely as you used to be. He might be a villain, but he’s a damn good security blanket. Not to mention a free heater whenever the nights get cold.
“You go do what you gotta do, and don’t worry about me, alright?”
You can’t help but grimace at the bottle in your hand—not a drop left inside. Wordlessly he plucks another from the cooler, flicks the cap off with ease and passes it towards you. The alcohol still burns down your throat, though not as strong as before.
Just don’t leave me out here all by myself.
The next few minutes crawl by in complete silence, save for the sounds of the city below. He presses his cigarette into the stone before lighting up a fresh one with the flame at his fingertip.
A sudden boldness grabs ahold of you, and you find yourself motioning to the little cancer stick between his lips, before tapping your finger against your mouth. He shakes his head with a soft laugh, taking another puff and plucking it from his lips.
“I’m startin’ to think I’m a bad influence on you, doll. Drinking, smoking… What happened to that good girl image of yours, huh?”
Your nose scrunches up at the smoke near your face. “You were the one who thought I had that image—I never claimed to have it myself.”
A quick inhale, a glowing speck of blue, and suddenly you’re coughing up a storm, pounding at your chest with your fist.
“You sure about that?” He’s outright laughing now, as he reaches in the cooler for another beer. “Still can’t handle a tiny bit of smoke, huh?”
“I can handle it just fine. I spend all my time with you, after all!”
The laughter dies down, the cigarette’s back in his hand…and your stomach twists when you start to feel that heavy weight settling back in your chest.
You’re going to miss these nights. Just being stupid with him over a couple of drinks, as though you’re the only two people in the world. That damn smirk, those cocksure blue eyes, the way he always seems to find his grip on your shoulder, your hips, your—
“Pass me your phone.”
You quirk an eyebrow but obey nevertheless. Not the smartest move, handing a well-known villain your phone, but you’ve done worse than that in his presence. You still remember the night you gave him your number, the second time he found himself in your apartment, bloodied and beaten and leaning on the edge of the kitchen counter. You had rolled your eyes, grabbed the nearest pen you could find, and scrawled the digits on the palm of his hand.
“In case you need a doctor again,” you sneered, and he only responded with a smirk. “Keep this up and I might start charging you for your visits.”
But he kept coming back, and you never did charge him.
It takes him a few moments to find whatever he’s looking for. Hell, he could be sifting through all your personal texts to your family and you would be none the wiser.
A cool breeze slips through the air; you bring my knees up to your chest and continue to stare at the city below. Listening to the furious clicking of keys, the soft hum when Dabi finally seems to find what he’s been looking for.
A soft tune fills the air around you. He places your phone on the little slab of stone between you, looking rather pleased with himself as he turns the volume up to the highest setting. And before you can blink he’s pushing himself to his feet, his cigarette forgotten beside his drink.
He snaps his fingers, taps his heel with each beat of the song. It’s an older one, a song you haven’t heard in quite a few years. Not something you would associate with the villain beside you. Then again he’s always been full of surprises, hasn’t he?
He spins on his heel—nearly knocking over his beer can—and flashes you a smirk. It’s hard to keep a straight face as you watch him swaying from side to side, the elated look on his face making your throat close up all over again.
“What are you doing?”
He doesn’t answer you, only twirls around once more in time with the music. But then he’s smirking again, stretching a hand out to you. You shake your head as fast as you can, and that fuzzy feeling in your chest only worsens as he slowly makes his way over to you.
“Ah, I…I don’t really dance.”
“Too bad.”
A startled yelp fills your ears, your shoes scraping against the rooftop as he pulls you into his chest. Fingers laced around your wrist, his other hand pressed against the small of your back. Too warm—your hand slips against his chest, in the dip of skin between his scars and the collar of his shirt.
“D-Dabi, I’m serious!” Another gasp as he tugs you in and spins around. It’s a miracle you manage not to step on his heavy boots. “I can’t dance!”
“If you think you can’t dance, you haven’t been doing it right, doll.”
It’s almost overwhelming, being this close to him, face to face like this. So close you can count each individual staple embedded in the skin of his face, holding him together. The ridges of scarred skin beneath his eyes, the glimmer of the triple piercings on the side of his nose—
Fuck, he’s staring—I’m staring—!
“Aww, what’s the matter?” You can barely hear the music anymore, with his voice so close to your ear. “Still scared of me? Thought you were braver than this.”
“I am! You’re just…” An insufferable piece of shit. A constant headache to deal with. A cocky villain who thinks he can sweet talk me into anything he wants to do. “…Just…you.”
“I’m flattered, doll. That’s probably the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me.” He spins you both around one more time, keeping his hand firm against your back. “If I didn’t know any better, I would think you got a soft spot for me.”
“As if!” You hate to say it, but it’s getting a bit easier to move your feet, keeping rhythm with his own. “I don’t think I could ever have a soft spot for you.”
“No? Well, that’s a shame. I was kinda hopin’ for a different answer.”
Suddenly he’s pushing you away, keeping his hold on your wrist, snickering at the soft grunt that slips through your lips. He yanks you back in, twirling you beneath your clasped hands, before your back slams into his chest, and his arms coil around your waist.
“For someone who claims they can’t dance, you’re not half bad.” You can feel him smirk against your cheek as your blood freezes in your veins. So close, so fucking close. “You have no problem keeping up with me.”
“I don’t really have a choice,” you choke out as he readjusts his grip, shifting you around so your chest is against his own once more. “You’re throwing me from side to side. Is this what you call dancing, Dabi?”
He traces his lips with his tongue, and suddenly you can’t stop staring at the little silver piercing right on the tip. Wait, how long has he had that? And have I seriously just noticed that now?!
“It’s dancing as long as you’re having fun.” His voice is a low growl in his chest, sending a surge of heat right to your stomach. “And I’m having a blast right now, doll.”
You suck in a breath at the touch of his fingers against your back, slipping under your shirt to graze the skin beneath. He quirks an eyebrow, readjusting his grip on your wrist, before spinning you around one more time.
Fine. He wants to play like that then, huh?
Before you can think about it, you’re wrapping an arm around the back of his neck, pushing into his chest with all your might. He stumbles briefly before regaining his step—but you’re already leaning in close, lips pressed against the shell of his scarred ear.
“And what would you do if I said yes?” Suddenly you’re grateful for the alcohol coursing through your veins, giving you that extra leap of courage to pull this little act off. “If I told you I had a special spot for you, huh?”
But he doesn’t falter like you thought he would. Instead he jerks his body to the side, tugging you down until he’s dipping you towards the edge of the roof. The city sounds are little more than low hums; completely irrelevant with those bright blue eyes on your own.
“That depends. What would you want me to do?”
“Dunno.” The words spill out faster than you can stop them. “I’m down for anything you have in mind.”
“Is that so?”
It’s only when he pulls you back into his chest that you realize the mistake you’ve made. The hand around your wrist comes to rest against the column of your throat. The tiniest squeeze has you wincing, your face flushed with heat, your heart exploding in your chest. His fingers heat up ever so slightly, and a shiver drips down your spine.
His flames have never frightened you. They’ve killed plenty of people, reduced countless buildings to rubble and ash. They’ve left ragged scars along his body, a testament of just how dangerous they can be if left unchecked. He could easily kill you if he loses control—or simply if he feels like it.
But fear is the last thing you’re feeling right now. All you can see are those beautiful blue eyes, the same shade as the sparks emitting from his palm, the scent of smoke still strong in the air…
And the sudden rush of heat that’s pooling in your stomach at the mischievous glint in his eye.
“Be careful, doll, or else I might get the wrong idea.”
I can stop and leave right now if you want. Tell me what you want.
You should listen to him. You should shake your head and admit he’s right, that you’re way in over your head, so your night can continue underneath the stars. Before one or both of you has drunk too much and you stumble back down the fire escape and into your apartment. You should stop this before you do something you know you’ll regret in the morning. Before you end up ruining whatever dynamic you have, crushing any sparks of that forbidden something else you’ve been wondering about for the last few months.
But instead you curl your fingers around his own, pressing them deeper into the skin of your throat.
“Trust me,” your voice is barely a whisper, “I want this.”
In the few times you’ve imagined kissing Dabi—when you’re unable to fall asleep in the dead of night, or when you’ve had a few more drinks than usual—you always thought he would be rough. Quick and searing like his flames, leaving no room for you to breathe. You wondered if he would be demanding with his hands, tugging at your hair, nipping at your mouth, or slotting himself between your legs. He seems like the kind of guy to have priorities like that.
You suck in a breath as he leans in, mismatched lips pressing against your own. The first thing you notice is the slight tremble of his palm, the way his fingers quiver beneath your own. But he’s pulling away from your throat before you can blink, curling his hand around the back of your head.
His skin is burning against your own, but his mouth is startlingly soft. Even with his scars and piercings he’s still so gentle, cradling you into his body as though you might break. Soon your hands are in his hair, fingers tugging at black tendrils and pulling him in as close as you possibly can.
The song finally ends, a breath of silence before another one takes its place. It’s a slower beat, one meant for romantic dances or sensual dates between lovers. A part of you wonders if he chose these songs on purpose, just to try to win you over.
Your breaths are getting shorter with every traded kiss; your knees begin to buckle as he slides a hand down to rest at your waist. Every inch of you is blazing with heat, the alcohol making your head swim, your nails desperately scraping at the hem of his shirt, your chest tightening at the ragged patch of skin splayed across his stomach—
Your heel knocks into something on the roof, the sound of a splash filling your ears. The two of you jerk away from each other in time to see the bottle of cider tipped over, the alcohol dripping down the edge of the roof.
“Better watch yourself there,” he snickers against the shell of your ear. “Don’t want you getting hurt all the way up here.”
“I’m fine!” But your words are already starting to blend together, the faint pounding of your head matching the beat of your heart.
“Like hell you are—two drinks in and you’re already tipsy. Let’s call it a night, sweetheart.”
“I said I’m fine!” You can’t stop yourself from smiling as you swipe your palms over your eyes, watching as he leans down to grab the (now) empty bottles and cans. “You…you just made it worse, you know!”
Kissing me like that, how can I not act a little tipsy?
“Aww, you’re so sweet.” He throws the rest of the drinks into the cooler, flicks the remains of his final cigarette over the side of the roof. “C’mere, let’s get you to bed.”
“But you’re tipsy too, aren’t you?”
“Only a little,” he replies with a smirk, leading you down the fire escape as carefully as he can. “I know how to handle my alcohol, unlike a certain someone I know.”
“…Shut up or you’ll be dancing alone next time…”
“That’s a shame, I had a completely different dance in mind.” He licks his lips again, flashing that damn piercing on his tongue, as though you’re  not already lightheaded enough. “But we’ll save that for next time, doll. When we can both remember it.”
“Huh, bold of you to think I’d want to remember it.”
His arm presses into the rung above your head, caging you against the steps of the fire escape, just outside your balcony door. It’s hard to stop the smile on your face as he leans in close, looking rather insulted at your little comment.
“You really don’t think I can make you feel good?”
“I don’t know—if you’re half as good as you are at annoying me…then I might have some pretty high expectations.”
He chuckles, his smoky breath warm against your cheeks. “Then I’ll just have to prove you wrong when I get back.”
His words are a kick in the gut, a grim reminder of the reality around you. He slips your phone back into your hand and slides the door open to let you both in. All the while your mind is racing, wondering if anything you say will get him to—
“Stay with me.”
“Already planned on it, doll.”
He sets the cooler down on the counter before flopping down in his usual spot on the couch. His long legs bend over the arm as he shuffles out of his coat, the scent of ash strong as you settle into his side.
But before he can kiss you again you grab his face with both hands, bringing his eyes up to meet your own.
“I mean it—stay with me. Not just for the night…” Your mouth goes dry, the words aren’t coming as easily as you want them to. “…You just…you better fuckin’ come back to me, alright? Or else I’m locking you out of my apartment for good!”
You expect him to roll his eyes, to laugh you off or even tease you for being so clingy. But instead he tugs you into his chest, his lips warm against your forehead.
“Yeah, you got it. I’ll come back, doll.”
You don’t know if you believe him, if you should believe him. Not when you both know you’re going to wake up to an empty couch tomorrow morning, only the lasting smell of smoke to keep you company.
“I’m holding you to that,” you murmur, pressing a finger to the line of staples running down his chin. He twists away with a grimace, and the ache in your chest slowly begins to melt away.
“Fine, whatever. Just go to sleep already, before you really do end up kicking me out.”
You roll your eyes before nestling your face into the crook of his neck. “Suit yourself—goodnight, asshole.”
“’Night, dollface.”
You know it can’t last—not for tonight, maybe not ever. Maybe it’s the alcohol swirling around in your veins, or the smell of ash so strong you think it might choke you. But suddenly you’re smiling against the scarred skin of his neck, idly tracing over the ridges and stitches left behind from his flames. The effects of the alcohol and touch of his skin are lulling you to sleep…but before you feel yourself slip away, you lean in close and press your lips to the shell of his ear.
“Better come back to me, I’m still counting on that second dance.”

Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts #5 - The Holy Beast of Immortality and Rebirth

Screenplay: Seishi Minakami Storyboard: Kiyotaka Kanchiku Episode Director: Masako Sato Chief Animation Director: Masahiro Fujii Animation Directors: Brian Barredo, Kazuyuki Ikai, Konomi Sakurai, Shinichiro Minami, Wei Xulong, Wei Feng Du
Still catching up on anime and started watching Sacrificial Princess some more. I'm a huge fan of the Sacrificial Princess manga, that is no secret, and I was a little worried about cramming so many volumes into the given amount of episodes, but after watching 5 episodes so far, the script has been genuinely very accurate to the manga.
I have no idea how he did it, but I will never doubt Minakami again. Each episode contains a lot of content, yet it never feels rushed. The way he handles the storytelling of Sacrificial Princess is so impressive. This episode, in particular, is one of the best parts of it. They only had about 5 minutes after introducing Bennu to give us some background on him, his character, and his personality, and to provide us with the satisfying moment of him being able to fly. I looked at the time left in the episode and thought, 'There's no way' they're going to do all this in one episode, but they did, and it felt perfect, honestly. I felt what I did when I first read this in the manga.
Of course, that also has many things to do with the episode directors and storyboard, who gave us strong visuals for Bennu's past and Sariphi's summoning. It was a darker and grittier visual than the show usually presents, but it doesn't get too dark as we always have cute-faced Sariphi shining in the light (literally) in shots to let the viewers know everything is okay. The visuals for the summoning of Bennu (especially the failures) reminded me of something almost like a Vanitas-type visual – a bit mystical yet somewhat foreboding.
Sato has worked on episode 1 and 5 of the show, which has been arguably 2 of the best episodes I've watched so far. They just stand out greatly in my opinion just in terms of how refined and visually potent it is. She just has such a great way to show the brightness that Sariphi exudes to others, while showing us the really dark and gritty nature of what's actually going on.
The animation for this episode was also consistent, while remaining conservative. People often give J.C. Staff a lot of crap, but I do not think they're a bad studio. They do sometimes push out mediocre material, but when they have a lot of their in-house animators like in this episode, it genuinely looks refined and animated enough. It only really got a bit janky in Episode 3, where the entire key animators were outsourced to Jumondou Seoul, Giza Studio, and Sonsan Kikaku. There was a noticeable drop in animation quantity and quality in that episode, having extremely limited amounts of animation and when it did move it was very stiff. However, when they come together to work on episodes like 5 and 1, it genuinely looks good. I don't think we should blame the entire studio for projects like Requiem of the Rose King because it doesn't really make sense. There are many factors that go into a project, and while upper management has a lot of control, each project, even if it's from the same studio, has different people working on it. Many projects also involve a bunch of freelancers, some great, some not so great, so the quality of a studio's projects can vary greatly. I see J.C. Staff as a decent studio that is sometimes judged too harshly.
If Sacrificial Princess can push out episodes like these, I wouldn't mind those dips in between the less important episodes. So far so good, hoping it keeps up for the rest of the series.
