I love the process of figuring out how to make my lizard’s tank more interesting and comfortable without being able to communicate with him. I wove this free form cave/tunnel for my lizard thinking he would like the extra coverage with some of the heat from the heat lamp dappling through. It has two openings so he could sleep or walk through it.

….and he hated it. He wouldn’t go near it most of the time, and when he did he looked uncomfortable and wouldn’t linger. He is generally pretty change adverse, so I kept it in the tank for a couple of weeks thinking he might warm up to it, but he never did so I took it out.

From watching him (grumpily) interact with it, the biggest issue seemed to be that the rattan I used wasn’t smooth, so he was getting poked when walking along the walls. I ended up hot gluing cardboard along the bottom edges, the openings, and a few bands along the top, which made it look a little less nice but was definitely better in texture. It also seemed like it was almost too open, so not good for sleeping without him feeling exposed. I decided to move it to a different place in the tank and lean it against a rock, so that the top of the cave was lower.

And these changes worked! Within the first week with he was hesitant but not nearly as agitated, and by the second week he’s spent most days hanging out under it.

Something about making things with your hands for a little creature living in your house and seeing them sleep and feel safe in it…literally the best

Brothers

(When they get a little manic) Floyd usually frowns and his eyes go wide, while Jade usually smiles and expresses with his eyebrows instead of his eyes. While I adore that the game doesn’t make them ridiculously identical, allowing them to have actual personalities outside of each other (even small details of difference, like eye shape, ear lobes evidentially cuz they said so, height, and their hair) , I enjoy occasionally seeing them so alike. It’s a nice reminder that they are equally crazy (y’all need to stop pretending Jade isn’t as fucking crazy 🤔)

I finally made a dandelion basket that I’m completely happy with! It’s tiny but firm, I managed to control the colors on the bottom, and the rim looks great! And it got a little cord handle.

I need to wait until all of the blackberry bramble dries, and then I can go make bigger baskets for foraging. This is not a fast paced hobby.

I tried to make an ivy basket, but regardless of how long I soaked it or waited for it to be pliable, it kept snapping on me. I think I took home some very old and gnarly ivy, and I should have collected some younger, thinner vines. I quit trying to use it in a basket, and decided it would make a wreath, for which it needs less bending. I did bring home a new batch of ivy so I’ll try again!
