You and your husband cuddle on the couch, where the low glare of the TV casts over your bodies and melts you together. The curtains are drawn and the room is dark except for the flashing television, occasionally leaving the room in pitch black when an especially dark scene plays.

One of your arms dangles over the side of the couch, envious of the other which is wrapped snugly around your boyfriend's waist. Soft, ash blonde tufts of hair poke at the hint of skin exposed feom your low-cut top, the hem riding up your stomach. No doubt that it's covered in wrinkles as you use Katsuki as your very own weighted blanket.

His head rests on plush breasts as he had previously went through the trouble of adjusting you perfectly so that "boob physics" would allow him to use them as pillows, and by now this has become regular enough for you to just roll your eyes at this, but on lazy days you like to wear a thin bra to help him keep them in place. You just find it so oddly endearing.

His eyes are half lidded as he lays with his head turned to his left to watch the TV while laying between your legs and on his belly, and his right eye leaks slightly from the pressure of laying on it. He must be tired.

You trail your hand to gently scratch at and massage his scalp, using it as an excuse to play with his hair and stroke it between your fingers, and a pleased twitch of your lips paints your face at his reaction, feeling him push his head into your hand like a pleased cat and sigh quietly.

After a few more minutes of Katsuki getting progressively twitchy and fidgety, you finally notice that something's up, but what you don't realise is that what's up is his dick.

Iranian film director Mohammad Rasoulof said Monday he had left Iran after being sentenced to jail on national security charges, a day ahead of the opening of the Cannes Film Festival where his new film is in the main competition.

"I am grateful to my friends, acquaintances, and people who kindly, selflessly, and sometimes by risking their lives, helped me get out of the border and reach a safe place on the difficult and long path of this journey," Rasoulof, whose film "The Seed of the Sacred Fig" is to premiere at Cannes, wrote on his official Instagram page.

Rasoulof was sentenced by an Iranian court to eight years in jail, of which five were due to be served, on charges of "collusion against national security", his lawyer Babak Paknia said last week.

"I can confirm that Mohammad Rasoulof has left Iran and will attend the Cannes festival," Paknia told AFP on Monday.

Rasoulof, 51, was not believed to have been in jail. It is common in Iran for defendants to be outside prison when sentences are handed out and later called to jail to serve their terms.

'Dangerous journey'

A statement from his French distributors was more circumspect on his attendance in Cannes, saying Rasoulof was "currently staying in an undisclosed location in Europe, raising the possibility that he might be present at the world premiere of his most recent film."

"We are very happy and much relieved that Mohammad has safely arrived in Europe after a dangerous journey. We hope he will be able to attend the Cannes premiere," Jean-Christophe Simon, CEO of Films Boutique and Parallel45, added in the statement.

It was not clear how Rasoulof had left Iran. Dissidents who feel in danger from authorities in the Islamic republic have been known to seek to cross to Europe via the mountainous land border with Turkey.

Rasoulof, who won the Golden Bear, the Berlin Film Festival's top prize, in 2020 with his anti-capital punishment film "There Is No Evil", had himself been detained in July 2022.

He was released in late 2023 after anti-government protests that began in September 2022 subsided.

Paknia had said earlier this month that some crew members had been "interrogated" this week and last week while actors on the film had also been questioned and barred from leaving the country.

The subject matter of the film and its cast remain under wraps, according to film industry media. It was not immediately clear how many people working on it were interrogated.

The Amazon: The most dangerous place in the world for environmental defenders

On the afternoon of September 28, two teams from the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), an agency linked to Brazil’s Ministry of the Environment, were attacked in the southern part of Amazonas state, in the Aripuanã National Forest.

The institute’s agents were carrying out an inspection of illegal logging and despite being accompanied by members of the National Security Force — a special unit of military and civilian police — they were ambushed in the forest. A group of illegal loggers surrounded them and set fire to two ICMBio trucks.

ICMBio’s communications coordinator, Karyna Angel, told Brazil Reports that the inspection carried out by ICMBio agents identified 550 cubic meters of illegal timber, as well as weapons, equipment and vehicles used for illegal deforestation.

The equipment was seized and four suspects were identified and fined R$7.6 million (USD $1.5 million). The spokesperson also said that operations to combat illegal deforestation in the region will intensify and those responsible for the attack will be punished in accordance with the law.

Attacks like this are an unfortunate reminder that the Amazon is now the most dangerous place in the world to work as an environmentalist.

A report released last month by Global Witness, an environmental watchdog, revealed that one in five of the 177 environmentalist killings that happened in 2022 occurred in the Amazon. Colombia and Brazil, two countries with vast territory in the Amazon, topped the list for most environmentalists killed at 60 and 34 respectively.

“This frightening figure is the translation of the absence of the State: The absence of public policies focused on the protection of defenders, the preservation of traditional territories and the preservation of the environment,” Gabriella Bianchini, Senior Consultant and COP Project Lead at Global Witness, told Brazil Reports by email.

-natural born magic users are rare and most people in this world use magic via a tool or amulet. elenor and her mom are natural magic users -elenor's mom went missing and all she left behind was a map and her spacious bag. -elenor isn't particularly great at magic, she's nine. but she knows enough to do some small spells. the limited knowledge she has would force players to get creative (using a levitation spell to lift latched on loot boxes, tripping jinxes to run away from guards, small elementary things) -her full name is elenor ruby grace -loot boxes scattered around contain food to either heal or restore elenor's mana (which would be shown in a gem/meter near the top) -different towns have different minigames to earn money to spend at the shops (cosmetic changes like new a new coat or similar, or food) -not all npcs are friendly! be careful of people who seem suspicious, they will try to grab you and force you to fight your way out -different spells use different amounts of mana. small spells like magic bullets don't cost much and can be used in frequent succession. larger spells like causing a gust of wind uses more and there for players should be careful when using that (different spells are used by pressing different buttons on a gamepad or on the keyboard) -elenor's umbrella acts as a way for her to mask magic usage and not get caught -cosmetic changes are totally optional except for a mountain town you have to pass through. to get there you need to go through a portal, but due to dangerously low temps (and the fact you play as a child who's all alone) the person in charge of the portal will not let you go through without proper attire, aka a winter outfit you can get from them free of charge once you tell them ur ready)

My Chemical Romance (commonly abbreviated to MCR or My Chem) is an American rock band from Newark, New Jersey. "Banks that profit from climate chaos invent new greenwash every year, but we have the receipts that show how much money they put into fossil fuels," said one report author.

The world's 60 biggest banks funded fossil fuels to the tune of $6.9 trillion in the eight years following the Paris agreement.

That's the conclusion of the 15th annual Banking on Climate Chaos report, which was published Monday and also found that the financial institutions lavished $705 billion on oil, gas, and coal in 2023—the hottest year on record.

"Financiers and investors of fossil fuels continue to light the flame of the climate crisis," Tom BK Goldtooth, report co-author and executive director of the Indigenous Environmental Network, said in a statement. "Paired with generations of colonialism, the fossil fuel industry and banking institutions' investment in false solutions create unlivable conditions for all living relatives and humanity on Mother Earth."

U.S. financial giants JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and Bank of America topped the "dirty dozen" list of the banks that gave the most to fossil fuels since 2016, at $430.9 billion, $396.3 billion, and $333.2 billion respectively. In 2023, U.S. banks provided 30% of total fossil fuel finance, the largest share of any country. JPMorgan also topped the 2023 list at $40.88 billion, with Japanese bank Mizuho Financial overtaking the No. 2 spot with $37.04 billion, and Bank of America remaining in third place with $33.68 billion.

"The science shows that over half of fossil fuels in existing fields and mines must stay underground to limit global warming to 1.5°C, and our Big Oil Reality Check analysis finds that none of the major oil and gas companies we analyze plan to do anything even close to what is needed to hold global warming to 1.5°C," report-co-author David Tong, the global industry campaign manager at Oil Change International, said in a statement. "By injecting a staggering $70[5] billion into fossil fuel financing in 2023 alone, the world's largest banks fund the climate chaos fossil fuel companies wreck on communities worldwide."

The report also tracks how much the financial institutions spent on companies that had fossil fuel expansion plans, according to the Global Oil and Gas Exit List and the Global Coal Exit List. The banks spent $3.3 trillion since 2016 and $347.5 billion in 2023 alone on these companies, or nearly half of total expenditures. Report co-author April Merleaux, research and policy manager at Rainforest Action Network, called the 2023 expansion finance figure "dangerous and inconsistent with real climate commitments."

Overall, Citibank has spent the most on fossil fuel expansion since 2016 at $204 billion, while JPMorgan was the top funder of expansion in 2023 with $19.3 billion.

"As this report is worth nothing if it doesn't turn into action, we call on the banks to finally become fossil free banks, and on the wider climate justice movement to use this data to mobilize for a fossil free banking world."

The researchers also looked at what fossil fuel companies and activities the banks were financing. All told, they considered funding to 4,228 companies. Clients with major expansion plans in 2023 included the pipeline companies Enbridge, TC Energy Corp, and Sempra as well as NextDecade Corp and Rio Grande Valley LNG, which are developing new liquefied natural gas (LNG) export capacity.

Fossil fuel financing did decrease in 2023, down from $778.7 billion in 2022.

"The trend of decreased financing from traditional banks to fossil fuel companies is good news, tempered by the reality that financing for fossil fuel expansion should be zero," the report authors wrote. "But there is little evidence that the decline is driven by voluntary commitments by the banks, especially given the policy rollbacks among major banks."

Indeed, in 2023, Bank of America rolled back commitments to not fund Arctic drilling, thermal coal, or coal-fired plants. Instead, the report authors suggested the downturn in finance was due to external economic and geopolitical factors.

"Unless banks take action to rule out finance for such clients, the decline may not be permanent," they warned.

When it came to the funding of individual high-risk fossil fuel activities, funding for overall expansion, fracking, tar sands, coal- and gas-power plants, and Amazon, Arctic, and deepwater oil and gas all declined. At the same time, funding for metallurgical coal, coal mining, and methane LNG all increased, with LNG funding rising from $116 billion in 2022 to $121 billion in 2023.

"In a year with record climate impacts, I am shocked to see financing for any category of fossil fuels increase. And yet in 2023 this report shows a big increase in financing to companies developing methane gas terminals and related infrastructure," Merleaux said. "Banks should be listening to those on the frontlines and stepping away from these projects."

This year the report—which is a collaboration between Rainforest Action Network; BankTrack; the Center for Energy, Ecology, and Development; Indigenous Environmental Network; Oil Change International; Reclaim Finance; Sierra Club; and Urgewald— features updated methodology that primary sources revealing the role of banks in corporate financial deals. The banks were given a chance to review the data and respond.

"Wall Street's top concern is its profit. Our top concerns are the climate and human rights. Banks that profit from climate chaos invent new greenwash every year, but we have the receipts that show how much money they put into fossil fuels," Merleaux said. "Our new methodology uncovers previously unreported details on banks' support for fossil fuels and gives campaigners new tools to hold them accountable."

Accountability is the report's main goal, according to co-author Diogo Silva, who leads the banks and climate campaign at BankTrack.

I've watched way too many cartoons in my life and the influences are just slightly under the surface. I'm not satisfied with the style or quality but that's just art's way of art-ing.

The stories are soft (and I hope) sweet, slice of life (or unlife, for the ghosts and vampires and undead).

You are a vampire. Prim and proper, you need order and rules, you need structure.

You fall in love with a swamp witch, who on a semi-regular occasion, drinks a potion she forgot to label -- specifically drinks it to remember what it does -- and finds herself transformed. "Guess I'm a frog today?" she'll shrug her shoulders, unbothered, then hop off to handle frog-business.

You are struggling with your vampiric feelings as this witch's life is so chaotic that you almost forget that her familiar, a winged-black cat, is meowing in annoyance at you. Dinner is late in as much as it hasn't been served yet.

The cat regards himself as the ruler of the entire Netherworld, and you, the vampire, are another subject under his benevolence that need live up to your duty.

Such is the nature of the Netherworld -- infinite in width, innumerous in monsters, ghosts, witches mermaids -- that said cat may as well be the ruler. Impossible to know.

The dimension around you is rich in magic and resources, there is more than enough for all.

Adventures abound, big and moderate and small. The dangers are silly, non-sensical.

Halloween is celebrated daily, trick-or-treating several times a week -- you swap places, sometimes as the host, sometimes as the costumed parade.

There is joy. And books, aplenty.

And a goat that eats herbs that allows him to breathe fire.

A mermaid, canonically the most powerful magic-user to exist since the beginning of time, whose dual motives in life are "acquire candy" and "have adventures with her wife." Unbothered, entirely, with ambition.

There is a goblin, her co-worker, so attracted to this orc that rather than introduce herself she takes up a career as an adventuring thief.

It's easier to steal jewels from queens than to say hello.

The next 5 years or so are planned out -- the rest of 2022 is going to be set in getting things in order, really, so that takes us to... 2028?

Which is plenty of time to figure out the following five years.

RE: 2022 Is the Year We All Finally Got Tired of Narcissists

Joanna Weiss states in her article about Narcissists in 2022 that she grew irritated by the Harry & Meghan documentary during the 5th and 6th episodes. She claimed that it was of the same stuff that:

Turned Elon Musk into a terror on Twitter, that prompted Ye to up the ante of outrageous behavior until he crossed the line into blatant antisemitism, that sent Bankman-Fried from the top of the world to a Bahamian jail.

In the article, Meghan (Harry is mentioned just as much, but he didn't make the article's header or opening paragraph surprisingly) seems to be the catalyst for Weiss's theory. According to Weiss, Meghan thrives off the attention given to her post-royal exit—be that from her Netflix deal or Oprah—and Harry & Meghan was something of a vanity piece that presented Meghan in an uber-flattering light meant to stroke her ego and showcase her wealth and glamour. However, she doesn't think the Sussexes are malicious like Kanye or Trump she concludes:

. . . the Sussexes’ addiction to the public eye is benign — they seem tiresome, but genuinely well-intentioned — a narcissist’s constant quest for eyeballs and acclaim can get a lot more dangerous.

I feel that what's missing from this article is that it fails to actually describe how Meghan is a narcissist, a word that means more than just having an "addiction to the public eye", or how it resulted in her falling out of favour in the public eye. One bad review of the documentary doesn't mean much, especially when compared to the other big names mentioned in the article.

Elizabeth Holmes and Sam Bankman-Fried are both in legal trouble after their once-lucrative scams fell apart; with Holmes having to serve an 11 prison sentence; YE and Elon have faced near-universal criticism for their current antics on social media, and Trump is on his way to political irrelevancy after his endorsed candidates underperformed during this year's elections. Weiss was smart enough to realize Meghan isn't on the same playing field as these others, but when compared to her other examples, Meghan seems more and more out of place. The article would have been stronger if she was excluded altogether because Meghan is just taking focus away from the main point of the article. The way it's been received is indicative of that, all anyone is talking about is how Meghan can be compared to Donald Trump in good faith, no one is interested in the article's thesis of how high-profile individuals destroy themselves through their quest to sieze and maintain the public eye.

To continue, I'm not sure this article was written in good faith. While Weiss doesn't read as someone with an obsessive hatred of Meghan, her selective recounting of the documentary does have me raising an eyebrow. The 5th and 6th episodes of Harry & Meghan, where Wiess states she reached the limits of the Sussexes ego, were some of the most intimate. They were the episodes where Meghan talked about her miscarriage and talked about how the harassment campaign has led to her living in constant fear for her life, that is not something a person with a huge ego would easily talk about as it conveys vulnerability. Nor her experiences with racism, trauma, and family woes. I find Weiss's characterization of the documentary as something "which suggests that there is no one more in love, no one more socially conscious, no one more aggrieved" to be totally inaccurate. The documentary is focused on Meghan and Harry's relationship, that in itself does not equate to narcissism or self-delusion.

I think it's interesting how Meghan's existence and her telling her story (twice), is enough for her to be branded an attention-seeking egoist when she's not on social media and attends public events and photoshoots sparingly, sometimes months at a time. It really raises the question, is Meghan a narcissist or are you just annoyed by her presence? Weiss answers this question within the first paragraph of her article.

Hi Jess, thank you so much for opening up book rec and congrats on 100 followers :D I'm looking for books that can be comp to a novel I'm writing (so similar things are my target). Can you find sth that is a spy thriller that leans more toward James Bonds-y, Kingsman-y sorta spy flick where there are colorful villains and world-ending scheme? (rather than realistic intelligence business). If they have a strong element of romance, that would be super swell as well. I would love to read about 3 of these, if you can find them, and hopefully they are recent releases, or as new as possible.

I am so sorry I took so long to reply. Real life got in the way, but I'm happy to share some titles I found that might fit the bill for you.

I avoided suggesting most books in series, and it seems like all spy novels are in series!

The Secret Service of Tea and Treason by India Holton (April 2023) is the third book in her Dangerous Damsels series. Alice (aka Agent A) is in charge of thwarting an assisnation attempt on Queen Victoria, but must partner with her rival, Agent B. This book got all the stars in the major library review journals, and it doesn't look like you need to read the first two books in the series to read this one. Definitely historical, and the romance element is strong.

Stars and Smoke by Marie Lu (March 2023) paris up Winter Young, a 19-year-old male pop star, with Sydney Walker, a 19-year-old operative, who must take down a crime boss together. The crime boss' daughter is a hige Winter Young fan. There's romance, villains, and takes place in modern day.

Hawke by Ted Bell (June 2003) is an homage to James Bond. As a child, he watches pirates murder his parents. Thirty years later, he is charged with saving the United States from being bombed by the Russians in the Cold War. He's a playboy, has toys, and there are over-the-top villians that we expect in a Bond book or film.

Alias Emma by Ava Glass (August 2022) - Secret agent Emma Makepeace has 12 hours to bring the son of Russian dissidents into custody without being detected in London, one of the world's most surveilled cities. Definitely action based.

Finally, The Moneypenny Diaries by Kate Westbrook (January 2005) is written in Miss Moneypenny's point of view. The description sounds cheesy but fun, and it will give you the James Bond fix you might be looking for.

While Domi has you Alun and Zacc are outside the locked door trying to bust it open to get to you. However, you know what Dominic is doing and why he's doing it. He's an omega, and he sees you as his mate. So please won't you let him mark you some more! NO! Don't leave the safe nest stay here! He'll dress you up in pretty clothing and you can have a spa day right where you are laying! Order servants to get food and water, no use waste energy for such a mundane thing!

Alun Prothro

Alun, as alpha as they come always trying to impress you with his strength and sharp skills. Guarding you all the time, he takes precautions to his... alpha-ness... such as taking hormone suppressants for when his rut comes. He can not leave you to fend off these rapid animals you call concubines! That would be the opposite of protecting you. Who needs ruts when he has to protect you the most important person in the world.

He has no mate nor does he want one. They'd take time away from making sure you're safe and healthy. His hypothetical mate is more trouble than dealing with the side effects. It would put you in more danger! His mate would get jealous of you and try to cause harm to you! NO! He won't allow that to happen. Not again. He is going to protect you til the day he draws his last breath, and then protect you form the afterlife. A very sweet and protective Alpha that isn't bothered with romantics.

Izacc Rinefern

Zacc is an alpha that hides his violent tendencies when he knows you're around him. However as soon as you are out of hearing range threats that were once thoughts are now promises to the people who have gotten to close for his comfort. You're just a naive beta, you don't know the dangers of the alphas and omegas that surround you. Omega's are known for being manipulative especially that mutt, Finch. Alpha's could over power you at any moment, little comfort he feels when an alpha (Alun) is to watch over you 24/7. Zacc does background checks on every knight or guard that tries to join the imperial rankings.

Zacc has more intellectual strength than physical strength, lost a bit of muscle after becoming your concubine and being pampered. He uses his wit and sharp tongue to cut down anyone who thinks is worthy of even a glance at you. Still gets called to the war rooms and council meetings with the generals of the armies under you. Zacc uses his strategic skill to impress you and gain your affection. Please just let him scent you! Let him chase off that mutt and stay by your side instead. You don't need to pamper Finch, if you really wanted to pamper someone he'd be willing to act like an omega and let you pamper him and dress him up. It's not alpha like to think like that but he doesn't care about what others think. Just you, only you. Please just let him scent you! Mark you! He begs of it.

Thiago Amos

Thiago is an omega, but you don't know that, you don't need to know that. He'll play beta to get closer to you, wants to bond over you two being the only "betas" around. Tell him all of your troubles with all the alpha's and omega, (so he can know what not to do of course). Thiago comes to your room with no problem. You trust him, don't believe what the others say! Does he act like an omega or an alpha? No! He's a beta just like you please continue being close and trusting him more than them.

Hides his heat by saying he needs to report to his father that he is well. Zacc and Domi don't like him and how smart he is about hiding his second gender.

The two men glared at each other as they locked eyes. Dominic held a slight growl to his voice. “You, me, Courtyard, when the sun is at its highest.” Dominic walked away, not waiting for a reply. Izacc stood there still glaring at him, ‘Mutt, this is your fault. Not mine. But very well, whomever wins gets the empress to himself.’ He stalked off to his own room.

Alun walked away from the corner when he heard the men go into their rooms. Thankfully, the concubines didn’t stall any longer than they had. Of course, he had heard the threating tones and razor sharp words that were being shared between the two men, however… the empress doesn’t have to know just yet. Dominic and Izacc need to be taught a lesson, after all.

Dominic was in the Courtyard before the sun was at its peak, hoping that he could plan to win in peace. When the idea of tripping him came to mind, he picked up some random objects that were laid across the courtyard after a training session with the top guards. It was a hot, humid, horrid day. Sweat was dripping off of him as if he were a leaking water pump.

Dominic’s fingers touched the metal piece of equipment to move it. The heat made it unbearable to touch, burning his hand. But this is more than fine. A little heat is just what he needed to get his blood pumping. Izacc entered through the large, heavy doors opposite to where Dominic stood. Neither of the men were smiling. Domi goes to grab the sword laying on the ground. Zacc had his on his hip, always prepared to protect his empress.

The first clash of metal rang hard and shrill in Alun’s ear as he watched, curiously devious as the empress’ pets fought like cats and dogs down in the courtyard. He stood in watched, enjoying the breeze that floated near the balcony he was standing on, watching with little interest as blood spilled below him.

After an hour of waiting for something interesting to happen between the two. Alun left to inform the empress on what he “stumbled upon” leaving out that he watched them for a while. He turned to leave and closed the door, still hearing the clashing of sword and shouting that the men were doing.

At a quick pace, he raced to the Empress’ room, where she sat drinking some herbal tea to calm herself from the letter she had received later that day.

“Empress, Izacc and Dominic, they are in the courtyard!” Alun said, as he burst through the door. The Empress pulled the curtains away from her window. What she saw angered her.

“Stop them. Bring them to the throne room.” She said it with such a cold tone, Alun shivered. The punishment must be great if you’re sending them to the throne room. Alun then walked away from her room. She was still looking out her window, seeing her beloved concubines fighting like rapid animals. She glanced at the letter she hadn’t finished writing.

“King Afonso Amos of Zandonia,

The offer you purposed would be beneficial to both of us. An alliance between two great monarchs. A wise decision on your part to offer it. Already better than over half of the allies I have.”

The Empress picked up the quill and the parchment and began to write.

“I accept the proposal between me and your son, Thiago Amos. He is to be my concubine in a week’s time.”

Greetings from the Kingdom of Zandonia. I, King Afonso Amos , wish to offer my son, Prince Thiago Amos, to you as a consort or concubine of your choosing. I offer you my son in exchange of peace and a treaty between us. A war not fought is the greatest kind.

Long live the Empress- King Afonso Amos”

The Empress released a breath after reading through the letter at least 3 times. She wanted peace between the Kingdom of Zandonia and the Masal Empire. However, the concubines she already has would probably seek to destroy the prince if given the title of consort. The empress thought over her response carefully, for now she will leave this for when she comes back from seeing her other second concubine.

She looked up from the letter and saw Alun standing there holding back Dominic from running to her and ripping up the parchment in her hands. It was taking up all her attention, and he wanted all of her attention. Dominic already had to share with… him. The Empress took the paper and held it to the lit candle and let it burn to a crisp. Alun let go of the Main Concubine. Dominic instantly latched onto the empress’ dress in a desperate attempt to bring her close and make her focus on him.

“My empress!” Dominic cried as he saw her dress rippled as she turned. “You can’t leave me here! Shouldn’t you take care of me more? Besides, that guard can wait, after all, I love you the most between the two of us!”

The Empress gently held his cheek with one hand as the other hand waved Alun away to get Izacc behind her back. With Dominic melting at her touch, he hadn’t noticed her dismiss Alun. She heard the grand door of her room close softly, alerting her that Alun had left. When she had finally taken her hand away from his nuzzling to run her fingers through her loyal hounds’ hair, did he notice Alun’s disappearance.

Dominic was rather thankful the oaf of a man had left. Just more time alone with his one and only empress, as it should be. Not long after Alun had left, Dominic heard quick footsteps approach the door. He already knew who it was. A large scowled formed on his face as they drew closer and closer. “Domi be-” The regal empress was cut off by the door slamming open. Izacc rushing in from his room two doors down. A loud growl was released from Dominic’s throat as he bared his teeth at the male.

“Empress… I didn’t realize a stray had gotten in,” Izacc sent a glare Dominic’s way, “want me to rid you of this diseased pest?”

“Izacc. You know I detest the fighting between the people I cherish most.” The Empress said to the newly arrived male. That is not the nickname she gave him, that was his full name. He looked away from her, displeased with himself at how he acted in front of her.

He stood straight and saluted, something he did when he was punishing himself by distancing himself from the empress when he had displeased her.

“Is something the matter, my empress?” A formal question. One that was spoken with a tone a guard would use as respect to her.

“She burned a letter,” Dominic growled out, not wanting the two of them to interact with each other more than they already had. The Empress stopped running her fingers through Dominic’s hair and stood straight. She cleared her throat as he pouted at the loss of attention.

“The King of Zandonia sent me a letter.” She walked over to her chestnut writing desk. “As a peace treaty, he wishes for me to have his son as a concubine. Seeing you two argue this often, it might be good to have a buffer other than Alun. He has a job other than making sure you don’t kill each other.” The empress fingers gently moved the pieces of paper to pick it up. Dominic and Izacc tensed up at her words.

‘A third?!’ They thought at the same time. The two of them can’t handle sharing you with just them! How would a third man help?! No, not a man, a worthless insect. She wrote with a quill and the ink jar next to the large pile of documents of trade. A response to the King, no doubt.

The Empress stopped writing when the eyes that stared at her became too intense for her to think. She looked up at the two men. She could practically see the imaginary ears pop up at the attention she gave them. They looked hopeful, however if they are going to make things this uncomfortable she needs them out.

“Zacc, Domi, I need you to leave.” The empress now spoke in a strict tone, no room for argument. Both of the men glared at each other as they turned to leave. Blaming the other as the reason for making the empress want a third concubine.

A murderous look came across both of them as soon as they shut the door to their beloved empress bedroom.

Dominic woke up to the empty bed of the Empress. The bed was still warm on her side, meaning she couldn’t have gone far. Dominic played with the blood red leather collar around his neck. The panic of not being able to see his empress makes him aggressive and on edge. He finally had the strength to get up off the silk bed sheets, his knees almost giving out on him. Last night was amazing! Of course it was! He spent it with his Empress!

The thought of it making his mood so much better than before and walked to the bathroom door on the west side of the room. Dominic knocked on the door and stayed leaning against it for a while waiting for a response.

“Yes, you can come in Domi.” The sweet, irresistible voice of his empress called out to him. Her nickname for him gave him shivers down his spine. He opened the door after the chills calmed down and the bumps on his tanned skin went away. The sight before him made his eyes wide and jaw drop. Drool leaked out of his mouth. There in all her beauty stood the Empress with a bathrobe on fresh out of the bath.

The Empress looked at the reaction he had to seeing her in such atire, it amused her greatly. She let a small smile grace her beautiful face and Dominic practically melted. Knees growing weak and brain turning to mush, she smiled at him after all, which is already a rare occurrence.

She walked past him with ease and elegance, headed for the walk-in closet next to the bathroom. Dominic followed her like a puppy following its master. A door shut in his face by the Empress herself, wanting to change without prying eyes. He felt hurt, but knew she likes the privacy she so rarely has.

Suddenly the main door slammed open by a guard needing to speak to the empress about a letter that came from the Kingdom of Zandonia. Curious, Dominic went over to the guard to see what it said.

“Sorry Sir Dominic, this is for the Empress’ eyes only.” The captain of the guard stated to him while holding the precious parchment away from Dominic’s desperate hands.

“Give it to me Alun!” Dominic said in a feeble attempt to persuade the man to give him the letter. In response, Alun just simply held it above his reach. Contradicting his name Alun, meaning little, he is the largest man in the palace. Alun heard the click of heels before Dominic could. He straightened up his back and stood at full attention.

The Empress came out of the closet wearing a simple but regal, deep blue dress. Walking to where the two men were, she took the parchment out of Alun’s hand and read it. Her eyebrows creasing in thought, deciding what to do next with the offer she just received.

“Your Majesty,

Long live the Empress- King Afonso Amos”

Timothée Chalamet Is British Vogue’s First Solo Male Cover Star

For the first time in British Vogue’s 106-year history, this month a man is flying solo on our cover. Not that men haven’t found their way on to the front of the magazine in the past: the first was actor and It boy Helmut Berger, alongside Marisa Berenson, photographed by David Bailey for the July 1970 edition. In my time here, impressive men have occasionally had their moments too: one example, footballer and campaigner Marcus Rashford, joined Adwoa Aboah in September 2020 to spearhead our “Activism Now” special, alongside many other brilliant faces, both men and women.

But I always held off from a man-only print magazine cover. Forever conscious of Vogue being a space that celebrates women first, I didn’t want it to be a stunt or a statement. Are men in dire need of more places to dazzle on their own, I pondered. The answer, of course, is no. Yet, in turn, it increasingly felt to me that there was something at best old-fashioned, at worst dangerously retro, about these tired old gender boxes. Fashion doesn’t always work that way – is every last piece in your wardrobe strictly designed for the gender with which you identify? I doubt it. Sex and fashion these days is no longer about va-va-voom dressing, it’s about expression and personal ease. It’s about politics and playfulness. It’s about dressing to make yourself feel good. So a man on the print cover? Perhaps I was waiting for the right man. Certainly I was waiting for us all to evolve a little further, for the moment to feel right, to have it feel like less of a “thing”. I wanted it to feel effortless. And then, one day, it… did.

Timothée Chalamet is modern man incarnate, as an actor and as a person. The 26-year-old star has enjoyed a breakneck ascent to the top of Hollywood in the past five years, from an Oscar nomination for Call Me by Your Name in 2018, to box-office dominance in Dune in 2021, to his detailed, nuanced and heartbreaking performance in Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming Bones & All. If this person can make playing a teenage drifter cannibal move your soul, as you will see on cinema screens this autumn, then I figured he was certainly ready for the chameleonic journey of a Vogue cover shoot.

Then, of course, there is Timothée’s feverishly followed fashion persona, a style so innate and self-assured that it inspires women and men alike. From shimmering genderless suiting to his daily wardrobe of vintage T-shirts and easy denim, he doesn’t like to label himself whether he’s off to a concert or caught in the glare of a thousand flashbulbs. When we began talking about the possibility of this cover several months ago, it became immediately apparent that Timothée is just Timothée. Neither tooled nor marketed by the Hollywood and fashion machines to appeal to teens or grandmothers, women or men, he is simply himself. He is a man for everybody.

And so here he is, a young actor at the peak of his early career, who calls to mind the Deans and DiCaprios of past decades, but with a relationship to a new generation that dismantles old-fashioned notions of masculinity as a matter of course. He brought so much energy, humility, joie de vivre, as well as a delightful clutch of character play, to our day on set with photographer Steven Meisel. It made me very happy to hear him describe the shoot as the favourite of his career to date. Sure, we played with gender, incorporated womenswear and generally had a ball, but for Timothée it all felt like the most natural space in the world. In the accompanying profile by Vogue’s Giles Hattersley, he tells all about living at the crossroads of quarter life. By the nature of his unfiltered authenticity, he is leading a quiet revolution in fashion, the arts and celebrity. It was a thrill and I’m honoured to have him as British Vogue’s first solo male cover star.
