S3 EP6 (thoughts + theories)

I want to get all the insane predictions out so I can look back on how much I clowned.🤡

These are ideas based on the moments that were in the trailer/teasers/stills. Or things that I feel might be addressed before the end...

Hillerska closing down🏫

We aren't directly told what Felice said in her interview. It's left ambiguous. So why wouldn't they tell us? Sure, there's a chance that she just praised the school but....

we got that very small snippet of the forest ridge boys yelling at each other. Could this be because they heard that Hillerska was going to shut down?

Simon (and his family) might move away 👋

they have the money now ig. this could be a reason why the ending, as ive seen around, has occasionally been described as 'open'.

this could be the context behind the shot of Linda's head on Simon's shoulder.

or maybe the 3 of them are doing smthn related to micke?

Abdication or King Wille? And August...👑

I think one of the reasons for August's storyline this season was for us to understand him more as a character so that if he becomes King, we know that he'll actually try or that he may not have been as bad as we thought. (my opinion of August isn't necessary here).

we really see how much the monarchy consumes Wille this season. Though I don't know how we'd approach the topic of abdication in just one episode.

wille has said that one of the reasons he wants to remain Crown Prince is bcos of Erik. Knowing what we now know, i'm intrigued as to what will happen.

will they acknowledge more of August's eating disorder?

we know that 'Alice' by Rhys will play at some point. Doesn't mean it'll be a wilmon scene. it could be sara and august OR frederika and stella (?)

normally, there's a song in ep4 that's repeated in the final moments of the season. ep 4 in s3 doesn't end with a song and (from the one check I've done), i can't really hear any of the other songs used in that episode as the final song of the season. then again, i could be wrong

ELIAS SONG?? they could play 'revolution' again to make it a full circle (dont think this will happen tho). they might use a new song. i just rlly hope we'll hear an Elias song and...i feel like we will.

THE TRAILER SONG? I really pray this will be in the episode. I pray i pray i pray i-

we'll hear Simon's new song. I don't know how or when (especially if this is simon's gift to wille) but...c'mon

initially, i didn't think Redlight would appear in YR. Omar has a career outside of the show, but i do agree that the lyrics fit wilmon quite well. also, if we're gonna hear Simon's new song then I don't know how the script would work around Simon singing another song. He told Wille that his present isn't yet finished (which im sure is the song simon is currently working on), tho ig we could argue that he may sing a brand new song.

BUT then i realised that simon doesn't have to sing this song. redlight could just be part of the soundtrack ( it seems that everyone got to that conclusion before me). and the way that it's being promoted this week has me suspicious. I don't wanna get my hopes up, and maybe Omar is just being clever and promoting it during the week of YR hype, so i dont think redlight will be in s3. BUT I WILL BE VERY HAPPY IF IM WRONG❤️

like the end of ep5 gave me no hope cos idk how they're gonna get back together in one episode. but anything is possible.

arguably, the promo we've got since then leans towards endgame (?), but i dont think they'd reveal they're gonna be endgame if there wwen't gonna be more issues.

theres so much to cover in the final episode!! so i dont think everything will be acknowledged/addressed. things will be left ambiguous to keep the viewers thinking.

imagine if the break up at the end of ep5 wasnt that huge. that theyre still together (with tension) at the start of ep6, then they kidna ignore their disagreement. this culminates until the end, where they break up ( but very unlikely)

the future letters were there to show august's past. but could there be more to it? could we get a time skip? (again, unlikely imo. but would be sweet if done well)

a reference to the heart simon drew? maybe? probably not...

will simon give wille his orange jumper back? id love to see this on our screens but im sure we wont.

there are plenty of moments that happen that we don't see as viewers. so that jumper simon wears at the start of ep 2 looks like wille's. and if it is, then we didnt see the moment simon stole it wille gave it to him.

and when simon mentioned a mental health foundation, it implied that they may have had a discussion abt wille's anxiety before.

the piano scene in ep2 could have been a piano lesson that wille was giving simon, which probably means a lot more of these happened without us knowing

this makes me wonder how much wille knows about micke??

simon told august that sara's with her dad and all that- so does wille also know?

WHEN I FIRST WATCHED AND FINISHED S1 AND S2 OF YOUNG ROYALS, i knew wilmon would be together by the end of s3. like i was 100% convinced the show would end with them happy bcos that's what it had leaned towards the entire time. the vibe of it just screamed wilmon endgame to me.

i really hope past me was right, bcos the s3 promo really had me wondering. and then ep5 had me proper questioning. but netflix (and lisa) will have to pay for so much therapy if they arent endgame sooo🤷‍♀️

hi everybody :3 i didnt really read a lot in february i was busy 'doing school' and 'looking for employment.' sad! i have spring break coming up so im planning on using that time to read a bunch (and also apply for more jobs -_-) this post and previous can be found on my neocities!

books:

revenant gun by yoon ha lee: the last book in the hexarchate series, starting with ninefox gambit. (slightly edited from my discord review, SPOILERS INCOMING). in machineries of empire, there a disconnect between what the audience craves and what the book is willing to give them-- for example, things like Whats up with the calendar + the hexarchate, why did jedao do all that, etc. this works in the books favor (imo) by increasing tension, creating a sense of discovery, and avoiding clunky exposition.

however in the two sequels it expands not just to what the audience wants but also what they like. care about? some big examples are the weight of the remembrances* and less cheris, but also stuff like jedaos focus. which isnt bad like i like jedao. but like, if you Dont you sure do get a lot of him. also did anyone actually like brezan sorry. hes fine like for example with the end of a memory called empire, when the protag (forgot her name sorry) loses her brain buddy, it feels like a second coming of age almost--her brain buddys been a crutch but now she gets to stand on her own (albeit as a changed person, with brain buddys influence). vs cheris who kinda starts to feel like a cameo character who literally fucks off for nine years??? there is also a sort of ongoing sense of "these sacrifices for the greater good are ok (if sad) and these are not" whihc ngl sometimes feels pretty arbitrary to me. and given that machineries of empire focuses on like the Littlest most downtrodden people it really is wild yhat we dont see a lot of civilian life? anyways i enjoyed it and i think its worth finishing out the trilogy but it wasnt as satisfying as i could have hoped (ALSO NINEFOX GAMBIT IS A REALLY FUN SOLID READ. I LIKED IT A LOT)

*the rememberances are a set of ritualized tortures that create a power structure that literally powers a lot of the empire's technology. this is a very cool concept! a big part of jedao and cheris' rebellion is about making a place that Doesnt have to run on torture. except that like, besides the intellectual knowledge that Torture Is Bad as a reader i didnt really feel that invested in this? like we only get to See a remembrance happening midway thru book 3. im not like advocating for torture porn or anything but it seems weird to have that be the focal thing when neither cheris nor jedao had any scenes where they were affected by it (and so the audience didnt have anything like that either). idk it kinda just stood out to me. like yes i care about these characters but why should i care about This specifically

hexarchate stories by yoon ha lee: an anthology set in the world of machineries of empire, expanding the world and fleshing out some stories. this was pretty solid! theres a wide range of stories and lengths, and i liked the variety :3 its like a little charcuterie board. (yoon ha lee's bias for shuos jedao really stands out here though..) its kinda essential reading to me imo though bc otherwise the ending of revenant gun isnt that satisfying :| lol anyways once again if youve read ninefox gambit check it out! spoilers for the whole series tho

exordia by seth dickinson: hard scifi about agency, impossible choices, and how they shape you. also, international geopolitics! like ninefox gambit, exordia demands your attention and concentration. you kinda have to read it at a time when you have brainpower to spare. however, exordia rewards everything that you put into it :3 i ended up learning so many random facts during this book… like AGL meaning above ground level. i feel like i need to read a book about democratic confederalism now also. a couple of my other friends read this book and got lost in the large cast and intricate web of events--i didnt have as much of an issue but u might need a piece of paper or sth. exordia is a book that's dense enough to feel like three books, and that can be good or bad. seth dickinson has this really spare, concise prose that leaves a lot to your imagination but also like. can sum up a person or situation in just a couple sentences? and that leaves a lot of room for the reader to investigate which i like :3 hm what else to say…. i really liked clayton (clayton!!!!) but i found erik super annoying ymmv. the ending kinda leaves you at a loss which i honestly kinda like? like yeah obv a sequel would be nice but i like it the way it is. anyways not for the faint of heart but id still recommend<3

accidentally engaged by farah heron: f/m romance aww so cute <3 really nice contemporary romance which tosses together a bunch of tropes--arranged romance, fake dating, baking together--into something that actually works really well! the two leads were very charming and i liked reading about the good food. i liked the way the protagonist's almost-stereotypical portrait of a loving but strict south asian family (am i allowed to say this) gets fleshed into a group of honestly kinda bizarre people that love her and that reena can genuinely connect with. yay family! overall, not especially memorable to me personally but still enjoyable. rec if youre into contemporary romance

last breath: the limits of adventure: realistic fiction (?) about what it feels like to drown, die of dehydration, fall from a cliff, etc. lots of research, very thorough! (well sometimes they live and sometimes they dont). an expansion of this absolutely fantastic article about hypothermia. honestly none of the stories quite live up to this one imo but this is still a really solid and exciting read! i couldnt put it down! although it does have a touch of the orientalism that you get from like, a lot of extreme sports circles lol. i would definitely recommend reading the article, and maybe read the book if it especially interests you.

video games:

pokemon legends of arceus: a pokemon game set in the past that breaks the mold by letting you dodge roll. my opinions here coincide pretty closely with the dunkey video, which is that this is a really fun game that is also literally half finished. controls are clunky, story is paper thin, graphics are fucked, overworld is extremely empty but its also just very fun?? it took over my life for like two weeks and i missed class???? anyways i would not get this at full price but if you can borrow it from a friend its super interesting to experience. im looking forward to the kalos one :3

slay the princess: a horror? romance? visual novel about saving the princess, slaying tbe princess, and everything in between featuring the vocal chops of that one magnus archives guy. dudeee this is so fun! i think its very kind to the guy inside of me who is Embarrassingly Anxious about any and all video game choices that can like, affect the narrative. lmfao its fun to fit in a couple runs or two between other things, but i did start losing track of what previous paths id taken after a bit of a gap. however!!! i would definitely think about playing this game if you like visual novels or Narrative or Loops! or girls who kill lol theres a free demo if you want to try it out

movies:

velocipastor: action movie about a priest who turns into a velociraptor to punish the wicked!!!! so fucking cool a lot of love put into this (low budget) movie made me so sad i dont speak cantonese (? at least i think thats what it was) watch this with friends

music:

Gato by nobonoko: really fun 80s synth jazz? album written by two fictional gay furries. no wait come back ok this is one of those things i got recommended by youtube and then actually listened to it a bunch of times its just very soothing and nice :3 ive been listening to jazz pretty much my whole life so i have a huge bias. also im a sucker for fictional bands eg splatoon… also the art is so cute?? those two guys?? its hard to pick a favorite song but i think i like the titular gato! also theres a bunch of other stuff made by the same two artists

option by Crosses: i totally forgot what the genre for this is but its like when metal guys are like i need to have a song for my metal wedding. song recommended by neil -_- anyways very sappy im fond of it nonetheless. i definitely did think it said "can you promise me to the grave"

Roy by Idles: from british rock band idles new album tangk! im going to be honest i did not like this album as much as some of the other ones by idles, but thats ok! hmm when i play this song out loud during crew shifts i feel embarrassed. but i really like seeing how idles' vocalist's voice has evolved over time! the way hes branched out into more melodic and belty stuff over time is very fun. the prechorus + chorus are very fun to sing along to as well :3 its just a fun song

anyways if you read any portion of this thanks as always :3 what else to say.. i made pandesal recently and its been my only successful bread that i can remember. go me! anyways see you guys in a bit

k so in light of the new ofmd trailer (:DDDD !!! <333) i must yeet my thoughts here

so at some point, stedes gonna be in china. idk how he would end up there, but its before his reunion with ed, which is probably where we pick up that new susan character

ed is absolutely not dealing with the breakup well. hes shown crying (again), states he had a bad night, and the whole “no more booze, no more drugs and no more stede” part implies he absolutely got high and blackout drunk. when did he do this tho? it could have been the night directly after the breakup, which is possible, but what i think is he did thing at 0:26 and went full blackbeard for a day, then had a super-mental-breakdown at night after he did a bunch of piracy. cmon he had it coming dude got abandoned by the first person to value him as he was and after coping well was promptly told by his like oldest friend to act like the media version of himself again and then killed a guy+ and probably more.

where did the pearls ed is wearing come from? i think hes wearing them at the scene where they raid a wedding and also above picture, idk. he wasnt wearing them in the last appearance in s1 right? i wish for a timeline when did he get those

i dont think remus can be solely blamed for not believing in sirius blindly tho. that doesnt mean that sirius cant be angry, but like, the entirety of the wizarding world was convinced sirius did it both because there were witnesses that heard peter scream how sirius was to blame for james and lily's death, then saw him sirius "kill him", and sirius was driven mad with grief and practically confessing when they arrested him. that doesnt mean it wouldnt be interesting to explore that while recognizing remus' flaws (there's a lot of fics doing that), but like. it's not so black and white. was remus supposed to suspect peter, his other bff and the new martyr? and given that sirius also suspected him, so we can probably infer there was even more going on that we dont know about. idk i think it's more interesting when both characters are both right and wrong at the same time (while holding both accountable AND giving them their rightful moments of anger, ofc, i hate one-sided shit lmao)

I agree! I will defend Remus to my dying breath. There's definitely a LOT more nuance than "Remus should have trusted Sirius."

Remus never had malicious intentions with anything he ever did. When he distanced himself from the Marauders during the war, he had orders from Dumbledore to stay quiet about his secret missions. And I know we all hate Dumbles around here, but Remus respected and revered him and was terrified of disappointing him. So obviously he went along with it.

So now Sirius is starting to suspect him because Remus can never explain his whereabouts. They're fresh out of school, living in a world that hates werewolves and Remus is already struggling enough that James has to support him financially. There's so much story to explore during this short period of time, themes of prejudice and class divisions and discrimination. It makes sense that Sirius would consider the possibility that Remus could be lead astray when the "bad guys" were promising to make life better for werewolves while Remus was fighting for the "good" side that made no such promises.

So no, we can't place all the blame on Remus. He was a kid, too, thrown into a war immediately after school. He knew that he was the only werewolf on the Order's side, and the weight of that must have been overwhelming for REMUS, the coward with a predisposition for running away from his problems (a trait of his that Sirius was probably well aware of, further cementing his belief that Remus could be the traitor).

Remus believing that Sirius could have betrayed James is one thing I really struggle to get my mind around. I like to imagine that some part of him doubted his guilt, but as a werewolf living alone in a society that hates werewolves, recently bereaved of every person he had ever loved, I don't think there was anything Remus could have done even if he was in the right state of mind to do it. Especially not when Dumbledore, the man Remus looked up to the most and the one he would be most likely to address these doubts with, also seemed convinced of Sirius' guilt.

The way the fandom tries to blame one or the other (these days, usually Sirius) for what happened to James and Lily is frustrating. They are both very flawed characters, and they both have things they need to answer for.

I hope this is coherent. I feel like I just rambled in circles.

oh for sure i can share!! 5k old grima anon again, and honestly i feel like my math might even be off since i based this mostly off the timeline laid out on this wiki page in a single fevered afternoon (https://fireemblemwiki.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Archanea,_Valentia,_and_Jugdral) so if it doesnt make sense uhhhh do take me with a grain of salt x'D ill summarize it down into bare bulletpoints for better reading, and im using the arcahnaen calender for the dates

sometime between -4000 and -2794 (i use -2894(ish) specifically): rough estimate for creation, sinces thabes has to exist to have forneus create him before duma sets the place on fire

-1000: beginning of the dragons decline, naga's war w the earth dragons happens about ~350 years later

607: (yes, no more negatives) alm and celica go into the labyrinth, weakening the seal and thus (to me) being the first instance where grima can Leave the labyrinth and is likely his first contact with real, alive humans besides forneus (rip,,)

(this is more of a heacanon, but i usually put the grimleal faith coming into being sometime around 900-1000, even tho the countries as awakening shows us are said to be founded proper much later bc i like slower developments)

1609: grima is sealed by the first exalt/the mysterious schism is here now in which we know nothing about how anything was created except whoops theres countries now lookit that!!

2585(ish): grima is reborn as/awakens into robin's body!

and because of one more headcanon, i see grima as following lucina to the past in the year 2633, which means the non-amnesiac robin timelines take a bit Longer to "complete" than the awakening we play through, because of all the added grima threat involved and other major events which are changed (emm's death, chrom's injury, there was something about ferox too i think?)

SORRY I DIDNT THINK IT WOULD BE THIS LONG STILL... i hope it was entertaining and makes sense!!

OHOHOHO I HAD NEVER SEEN THIS TIMELINE BREAKDOWN BEFORE I've been trying to puzzle my way around correlating the Valentia and Archanea calendars from the Accordion, this is FANTASTIC!! It looks like your math is pretty much spot on using that timeline as a basis -- plus, I deeply appreciate that you account for Lucina's Doomed Timeline taking more time than the Revised Timeline we see in Awakening, because I hold to the exact same theory.

Even with this timeline, though, the biggest point of logical dissonance for me remains in Naga giving Duma the Falchion before his exile. According to the Wiki's timeline, it states that Naga gave Duma the Kingsfang (aka Falchion) "in the inevitable event that they degenerate into madness" -- but it's not until almost 3,000 years later that degeneration becomes a recognized phenomenon and the Divine Dragon Tribe seal their powers and become manaketes. To my knowledge, Naga's not gifted with precognition -- if she were, I suspect she'd have dealt with Grima a lot earlier than she did. That's not on you! That's on my brain rioting at how the events don't make sense in this order.

If degeneration was a known issue and enough of a risk that Naga gave Duma a weapon that would end his and Mila's suffering should they be afflicted by the condition, that makes me think that they've seen how bad it can be -- which would mean that they've seen the Earth Dragons degenerate and likely gone through the Dragon War. And considering that Naga's death is recorded in the timeline about 500 years after dragon degeneration becomes a known condition and a mere ~250 years after the end of the Dragon War and the sealing of the Earth Dragons at the Dragon's Table, Duma and Mila only making it about a millennium after their exile doesn't seem that unreasonable.

No, I don't know why my brain is like this. I want to be able to take the timeline at face value, but every time I see events ordered with Duma and Mila's exile first and the discovery of degeneration second I start gnashing my teeth.

Hey I dont think jumping from a cult to another one will be helpful to you. You should check deeper into a more broad generalisation of life experiences instead of making your whole life about your gender again. Radical feminism isn't helpful because it doesn't take women accountable for the shit they do to other women too. Blaming males all day long won't work or do shit because we have to solve our own issues between females to live better lives. Sure men can be awful. But so are women. Radfems are also full of shit and attack peoples physical flaws at the second they have the occasion to. They don't really understand that women come in different shapes and ethnicities. Shit like "oh look at her body hair/facial hair" for exemple will come on the table all the time. Or while trying to make fun of transwomen they'll insult women that are less GC too because they don't give a shit anymore. So be careful with "communities"... Those women aren't full on accepting. its interesting youre talking about making gender my whole life again tho. its not something id expect someone to acknowledge. most people dont want to acknowledge that thats what its like in the trans community. but this isnt making gender my whole life again. acknowledging misogyny and sexism isnt obsessing about an identity. these are judgement calls about peoples lived experiences as well as my own. and yeah, absolutely both men and women can be awful as individuals, but thats an entirely different issue from recognizing how women are treated as a sex because of their reproductive capabilities. that capability is a resource people want to take control of (if you support abortion rights then thats the cause youre addressing for an example of how thats a real issue that needs to be discussed). if you recognize that, you recognize that theres an imbalance between what sex holds power. were not “blaming males”, were recognizing who holds the power in the situations we are disadvantaged in. you have to find a source to a problem *somewhere*. women doing bad things to other women doesnt mean that power imbalance doesnt exist. and looking inward to address an outward disadvantage doesnt make any sense. if we examine ourselves enough, will the pay gap close, for example? is it womens fault theres a pay gap to begin with?

also idk where youre getting your information about what radfems think about other women, but do you think theyd even tolerate me here if they only wanted a certain type of body? my tits are gone and im hairy from testosterone. if they were anti-body diversity, why am i accepted anyway? why are they accepting any detrans woman? ive seen these women come in every shape and ethnicity, and praise women of every size and ethnicity (from thirsting to beautiful photography).

if you want to look into it, check out @ laetitiaky on instagram. shes a black woman who describes sex-based oppression from her own experiences, essentially (also makes p cool art). if you want to see examples of radfems of colour the blogs @oneblackbraid and @rad-by-nature are two off the top of my head (hopefully im not mistaken rip). im sure if you scroll enough youll find them talking about radical feminism in relation to racial issues.

i can see that theres a matching theme going on. the younger boys get the light blue/dark colors casual matchy theme and the older ones get a more sophisticated and primarily black deal

and also asymmetrical designs. which, as u said, theres nothing wrong with that! i even like asymmetrical designs a lot! but these ones have me tilting my head JHVSKJDHKF

artem is the lesser evil here. his shirt isnt bad, per se, it just takes me a second glance to understand whats going on cuz the pattern acts a bit like an optical illusion at first

but vyn....

okay, the one half of the shirt being untucked is something i maybe couldve gotten used to. eventually

but having just a Single Suspender is making me go nuts omfg. additionally, there seems to be a second strap coming out of the longer portion of his shirt? is that the other unused suspender?? or is it something else altogether? i have No idea what it does but unlike the chain in belt loops for marius and luke, my confusion trumps the an aesthetic merit i'd end up seeing JHKJSDHFKSD

full verdict: luke finally gets his moment to shine with an R card outfit that makes sense. vyn has had too many wins in the past with awesome outfits, so for the sake of equality, it is Him who gets the confounding piece of apparel this time

Cemetery Mary: True End (Crowven's Route)

here i am!! time to get the true end, where i will hopefully get all of the answers to my questions (or at least most of them)

since the ending guide says that the true end is the same regardless of the route you got it on, i will be doing Crowven's and not twyla's or Reginald's because i just really like seeing Mary and Crowven have a good time together

spoilers below

since im gonna get the true ending, i've decided i wont skip anything so that i'll be going through a complete story (does that make sense??)

lol its kinda funny (not really) that Mary's parents were so worried that she'd be a victim of 'the Blackwood Butcher' im sure Reginald would find it funny since the only reason he's killing people is for Mary

i wonder why Reginald killed Mary's aunt and uncle (well i think he did) but only kidnapped her parents (unless he killed them at some point but if he did he would have let the bodies be found yk? for a funeral) maybe its just cuz it was her parents

man the tension between Mary and Crowven at the beginning,,,, at least in this route it will fade away

man,, i wonder what would have happened if Mary had told someone about the mystery number instead of like,, talking to them in secret

Vasilis looks cool i know theyre the mc of Blackout Hospital, and ive been planning to play that game after Cemetery Mary so after i get the true ending im gonna play that game afterwards lmaoo I wonder if Crowven shows up in Blackout Hospital or smth it would be interesting to see more of their relationship

he could be lying OR im wrong and the mystery number isnt Reginald at all but then who could it be??? well i guess i'll find out in the true end

Three Hopes Live Reactions Part I - Azure Gleam

I’m doing the routes in reverse order of how much I like each house leader, saving the best for last - plus, I’ve heard that while the other routes are good, Azure Gleam sucks to the point even the dimitri stans are torn on it.

“claude time? Claude time”. claude continues to be the worlds funniest person.

This is not at all how I’ve been imagining Byleth’s voice all this time. Gotta check if the jp one is better.

“Finally a protag with a personality” people said, and then it’s a Bland generic hot blooded hero. Then again, I’m biased as someone who actually liked Byleth.

i hate it when ppl accuse less expressive characters of having “no personality”. I like them because they require paying attention & reading comprehension to puzzle out where they’re at. Also, i instantly assume you would be one of those ppl who bullied me in highschool for being “weird and creepy”.

That said, it is a good thing that they’re contrasting, I like the basic premise of seeing a different side to all the characters because you’re interacting with them from a different PoV

Here’s another hint for the dummies that the point of the bandit attack was to make the church look bad

And we see right away how shady they are in how Shez is essentially bribed to avoid bad publicity

It is funny how Shez has a mostly good impression of the house leaders whereas Byleth smelled their hidden skelletons right away

As if poor, poor Dimitri needed yet more terrible backstory stuff

So we found out Conelia’s real name

At least Dimitri is given a reason other than naivity for why he patiently waited to turn 18 (unlike Claude, who was already half ruling the alliance, and Edelgard who was making takeover preparations) - it was mentioned in some dialogue from the OG game that Felix wanted him to take the throne early. Though, while wanting to prevent civil war gives him more understandable reasons, it's still a *tad* naive. If he knew there'd be a fight & didn't prepare for it.

we actually get to kill kleiman? i mean an execution after a trial detailing what he did would have been better, but ill take it

I would have expected Dimitri to have more of a reaction to the “I should have killed you at duscur”. Like holy tomb scene style. Though I suppose that was preceded by a long pile of stuff that simply did not happen here.

Still, again, he was much more shocked to learn of Kleiman & co being behind it in the original game. I feel like the drama & emotional torque are just not up to standards.

MASSIVE props to Dimitri and Rodrigue for not doing a coverup here / wanting to disseminate the truth to the people.

I suppose an explanation for the plots moving quicker here might be that the agarthans might have wanted to watch and wait on Byleth. Who should be cluelessly frolicking in the meadows somewhere now

Though calling off the academy phase early means the students from the different houses hardly knew each other

I hope Scarlet Blaze will explain why there were 2 years between the takeover and the war, though I appreciate that it wasn’t forgotten that Edelgard’s war declaration was adressed at the central church only and that the Kingdom did not HAVE to get involved. Like, the fact that the war escalated to the point that it did was always 100% on Dimitri. I blame him alot more her than in the canon timeline, tho, because there he wasn’t in his right mind, which wasn’t his fault. Don’t get me wrong, Edelgard knew she might end up fighting the whole continent and wilfully chose to risk the consequences of that but it was never about conquerring the neighbors.

So Dimitri never snaps in this one. Which is interesting, but also they’re gonna have to work hard to keep it from being boring.

It makes sense that he wouldn’t, he thinks he’s fulfilled his vengeance already - Rufus and Kleiman were responsible.

like, there is a lot you could fill out here for more efficient emotional torques. fanfic writers get on it

Like emotional torque wise there seems to be a chunk missing where he reflects on this or whatever. But I guess at this point he didn’t know Shez well enough to get into it. He may have discussed it with Dedue or Gilbert.

I like the nod to Crimson Flower with Seteth & Rhea asking Dimitri to let them hide out in Faerghus

Aaargh the discussion on wether to remain neutral was so painful to watch. It’s a horde of conservative old men and a boy who was obviously raised by / guided by them. but this was precisely the attitude he showed in the crest conversation in the OG game. He always was this half-assed centrist guy.

Even if you want stability, I’d reckon that No War would be better than War. He could just deal with uprisings if they happen. He frankly got steamrolled/ talked into it by his elders.

This is precisely why edelgard is onto something with getting rid of hereditary rule. Dimitri is on all accounts a good, charitable and empathetic person, but he is simply no leader, at least not one suited for times of crisis. He would be a great middle manager or something, but he lacks vision.

Seriously, is Sylvain’s dad someone you should listen to?

Something in the OG game is that he didn’t get to implement a political platform or even have one cause he was busy losing his marbles. So here we see his politics & they’re consistent with early game Dimitri - he’s certainly pacifistic, idealistic & fair-minded - he did some good stuff making stuff more egalitarian fixing the duscur situation etc, but he’s painfully naive.

Horrible as it sounds, I think Dimitri sort of became a better man by the end of AM than he is here. The humbling did him good (as did being 3 years older)

Not to get too down on Dimitri. He acts like an average 19 year old would which I suppose is what makes him "relatable". Whereas Claude and Edelgard are wise beyond their years, or rather, they have exceptionally self-reliant and resilient personalities.

But this does sort of offer a glimpse of how things may have gone for CF!Dimitri. Though he’d still be considerably less hinged than here.

the lore tidbits on the different territories in the kingdom were neat. so we know how to describe the landscape in fanfics

Hubert looks so hot, the 3D model more so than the portrait. I love that he picks Petra/ generally has this respect for her when they’re on the same side.

Felix telling you to give ppl gifts is surreal XDD As is Dimitri advising everyone to stay calm. They did pretty much end up going in very different directions.

So the recruiting works here by persuading ppl in mid battle? That’s kinda a lot more unrealistic than getting them on your side after, like, winning their trust after living together at the academy. Makes them seem rather indecise and half-hearted imho, or the whole thing too much like a gimmick. i dont like it. they dont even all get ambivalent-sounding dialogue

Rhea is really channeling peak blue diamond in whinging on how she doesnt wanna sacrifice cyril’s life to save hers after he already took the rear guard

“Skirmish in the fog” shows a rather more pragmatic Dimitri - I can’t see his late AM self “ok to slaughter a 100 to save a 1000″ that was his whole opposition to edelgard. He’s gone down a rather different trajectory here. He didn't snap in this one but neither did he learn the humility that comes with regret. He’s more pragmatic, yes, but also more conservative. I can’t see this Dimitri inventing constitutional monarchy like his AM self.

So far I find the characters to be in-character but the writing weaker overall at least in terms of emotional beats. Like if they had inserted just a few scenes of Dimitri reflecting on what last happened...

Even in the OG timeline Dimitri was someone who emphasized listening to others - which can be a good thing, sure, but it can also backfire depending on who the others are.

I really appreciated the scene where Felix calls him on how playing politician doesn’t suit him, & you do get a glimpse that he’s no less soft on the inside, also very in character for Dimitri to blame himself for killing Rufus through the man treated him like dirt.

And here’s Lonato making trouble later than the last time. Appreciate the irony: They thought not taking the church in would cause rebellions, but so did taking them in. Now they have rebellions plus war, ppl defecting to the enemy.

17 year old Dimitri was a lot more conflicted about axing Lonato. Though I think the difference is mostly a bit more impulse control.

Is that Byleth? I did not see this comming.

That thing with Miklan came out of nowhere. Wasn’t he like a horrible bandit famed for all sort of atrocities? Yuri’s dialogue in that chapter in particular... It’s not inconceivable that Dimitri somehow brought him into the fold, but this is kinda random & cheapening the drama/ bit of a half-assed plot thread.

So there is the explanation. Being captured by your abusive father after you escaped him must be a nightmare, even if you’re a bandit who needs locked up. Not that Dimitri would get it, he is mister unwanted pity. He didn’t get why Edelgard would rather die than be captured alive. I guess this somewhat explains it as a Dimitri pacifist thing. Miklan’s essentially been put to do community service. It’s an ambiguous situation really, like the punishment is fitting, he did enough to deserve far worse - it’s a mercy. I just wish his father weren’t involved. We’ll see how this goes. It could lead to redemption.

this is very very dimitri thing to do. guilt fueled, merciful, idealistic & zealot-like at once - I like that the connection to Rufus was explicitly made.

Dimitri still hates/judges himself/ regrets it even after he did get his revenge on a treacherous family member. And this is even though he got one who was actually guilty (and actually his relative) this time, compared to the misinformation and projection fueled crusade against Edelgard in the canon timeline.

Felix got a point. At this point Dimitri is listening more to Gautier senior and Gustave than to his same-age classmates.

Sylvain’s analysis about how Miklan was basically given the position out of tokenism tho... well, he’s optimistic about it - maybe he feels he needs to be, out of guilt, but that’s kinda what it is. Still, it’s some improvement compared to before Dimitri’s rule. The random duscurian generals are proof of that - though you’d think there’d be more NPCs grumbling about that.

Finally we've been granted our longtime wish of stabbing Bernadetta's dad, ig only in a side mission

Once again Dimitri promises to help you with your vengeance quest. But Shez is alot more chill/ambivalent about it.

Going straight to thinking about hiring the Eisners however is also very him.

Byleth seems so wasted as just an ordinary soldier when you know what a terrifying general they can be. Though one sees also how their time as a professor softened them up, which didn’t happen here.

Only Dimitri would sigh fondly about getting a dressing down by Felix. He’s so hopeless. which is endearing in its own way.

Not sure - on the one hand it kinda spoils the “they blamed the minorities” aspect of it, though the disproportionateness of the backlash is certainly not erased by that, the brutal collective - on the other hand it’s the sort of politically inconvenient, narrative-defying complexity that can occur IRL and be a mess for the leaders to spin. It is realistic - like pointing at one minority criminal to justify demonizing a whole people. It was an attempt to do complexity but realistically invoking the party that did the mass murder just a few years back would have been political suicide for the duscurian leadership, or, seen differently, it kinda makes it look like Duscur is basically still a vassal state. Why isn’t the possibility of complete independence brought up? Guess Dimitri couldn’t convince all the old lords to agree and didn’t want to go against all of them in his usual wishoe-washyness or something. I appreciate that they’re trying to do complexity here but it might have been done better. well. video game writers are not necessarily into political theory/discourse.

Though this is another instance of the emotional torques just being done better in the OG game. Let Dedue be conflicted over sympathizing with the insurgents but maybe chosing to oppose them for the sake of stability; Let Ingrid reflect on how she gets why they hate Faerghus given how prejudiced ppl were including herself in her younger years. Let it ~land~

wasnt Duscur described as a more arid region in the supports from the OG game? Im dissapointed that it kinda looks like everywhere else.

That said, props to Dimitri for wanting the Insurgent caught and put on public trial rather than just axing him. Big political show of punishing only the guilty rather than the indiscriminate retaillation of the previous regime. Though again, better yet if the duscurians had their own judiciary & THEY put him on trial.

I do appreciate how Dedue tries to act all stoic throughout but then in the end he cracks & wants to visit the once destroyed flower meadow from his childhood days :( I appreciate how the pair who used to hate him now volunteers to come along as moral support, but they should have at least asked if he wants to go alone.

It’s a sensible direction to take him on this path, but I#m a bit sad that Felix while still being the same fierce pragmatic person, has basically completely gotten over his whole rebellious phase, even going so far as to align with his brothers’ knight ideals. He isn’t recruitable in this game so we can’t really get Rebellious!Felix. I guess with the academy phase cut short & other developments happening Felix never got the chance to get serious about cutting ties with his house, it’s unrealistic that he would ditch his childhood friends after just 2 months as opposed to a full year & a charismatic figure like Byleth being involved. I always thought defector!Felix making his own path was the more interesting version of his character.

Ah. Edelgard has come to mop us up personally. Things are about to get phun. Very logical to come take out the kingdom while they’re busy with internal squabbles.

This Dimitri doesn’t have any particular obsession with Edelgard - he hardly got to know her, and the misunderstanding never happens - he’s chasing the right enemy this time: Cornelia. Though overlooking an elite army to keep busy with interior squabbles is a dumb decision. This just proves all I’ve always said about how he just projected his mother complex onto her as his sanity went out the window. Here, the treacherous relative he chased for revenge was Rufus (who truly betrayed him, and truly is his relative) - so it makes sense that securing his position & chasing traces of Cornelia is more “personal” here than Edelgard. She is simply a rival - that is what she actually is, and how she thinks of him, so in a sense viewing her that way is a sign of this Dimitri being less obsessed, or channeling his obsession on other things.

One has got to appreciate how chill Shez is. "Not really that keen on the bloody vengeance thing"

Oooh. This is new. Obviously what Cornelia is saying here is a misdirection or misrepresentation to sic Dimitri on Edelgard, but I wonder if we’re gonna end up finding out what actually happened to Anselma.

Since Cornelia only dies late in Crimson Flower she could’ve put that idea in his head in that timeline also. Or it was that Agarthan Abyss NPC who mentions failing & trying to sway Dimitri to ally with them.

They might’ve mucked this up.

I’ve been saying it from the first, the war was not a one-sided affair. Edelgard knew it would be the likeliest result & accepted the collaterals, so she is responsible, but so is Claude breaking his neutrality because he’s opportunistically plotting to take over (for his own grand noble ambition) & Dimitri for refusing to let go of the old order (or a personal grudge, though this is less the case with this version). As well as Rhea & Thales for making Fodlan an unstable pwderkeg in the first place.

Don’t get me wrong - Dimitri is a nice, sincere guy trying his best. I can’t hate or blame him personally. He just didn’t think things trough ‘cause it’s beyond him, not as a moral failing. He is a product of his surroundings & relative to those he is much better compared to the culture that produced him- besides, his hopeless overemotional manner is quite endearing. But he is just. Not. Leader material. I guess from a storytelling perspective its compelling to see someone without leadership talent try & do his best, but if you’re going to ask me about who the best leader is, Dimitri is just leagues below the other two. Dimitri would be a good middle manager or enforcer, but not a policy setter.

But this Dimitri is clear-headed enough to realize that the empire was infiltrated same as the kingdom was - to recognize the actual relationship between them & the slitherers. Granted, you’d have to have tomatoes on your eyes to miss it after seeing Thales try to off her.

It’s worth noting that Edelgard had to be taken out of comission for Dimitri to seem like a hero. He’s incompetent but he’s the only one left who can stop the Agarthan’s anymore. In that sense at least he must be commended for raising to the occasion.

Now the Empire has gone full evil under Aegir, Edelgard is basically dead whatever sad pupettry Thales is doing with her empty shell, so, it’s clear that only defeating them will lead to a good outcome.

It’s a nice detail that Claude’s uncle apparently died trying to defend the merchants. However, i would have liked to see the Agarthan involvement hinted in the shadow library documents hinted at. It kind of was (I suppose that the implication was that the mysterious emissary was an Agarthan, but Lorenz’ dad not really knowing about it seems like a copout) i kinda prefer my own headcanon here. Or that Lorenz’ Dad pretended not to know.

i prefer to think that Lorenz fed them all the ham equivalent of the extra fancy wedding ring from his S support.

Dedue’s put it together that Edelgard’s probably dead, out of power or bodysnatched. Thank you, token level-headed person. Which at least avoids a cliched repeat of Azure Moon’s plot in which Dimitri waltzes in and finds the person he’s been wanting revenge against has been effectively dead for months. That could have been interesting as a tragedy tho. like fortinbras waltzing in at the end of hamlet.

They seem to be going with a willingly evil reading on Anselma here. The letter showing calculation. Not as helpless as Dimitri supposed in the hapi support. It was my headcanon that that was cope, but I thought it was merely that, a headcanon, cause I didn’t like that they made her seem innocent & thought it was way too unrealistic that the KING can’t be alone with his WIFE. I mean was Cornelia watching them fuck? Probably not.

I’d say Cornelia was bodysnatched soon after curing the plague (”she asked no reward... at first”) suggesting it was already Cleobulus who ordered Anselma brought. Though the dsplay mae to Hapi suggests a self-rightheous human played like a fiddle by Cornelia rather than an Agarthan.

I like that she continued to be characterized as weirdly distant (as per the Mercedes support) and that Dimitri’s rosy memory of her seems to have been cope. Again that was my headcanon cause it just fits how Dimitri acts, but I didn’t expect to see it confirmed.

Looks like Thales is going to be the endgame villain for this route so he will probably spit out the whole truth before Dimitri axes him.

I mean she left him to die in cold blood. A little kid who adored her & tried to get along despite his hurt feelings. It was not hard to deduce. No one who did this could be a good person. If she was an innocent victim motivated by maternal feeling, wouldn’t she take pity on a motherless child?

The writers seem to have forgotten a bit that Gautier senior was supposed to be an asshole who treated his sons like tools. It’s ok to show nuance or even redemption, I, but the assholishness hasn’t been shown, acknowledged or adressed in a while.

This is truly the alternatest of timelines. Though from what I’ve heard this has 2 separate endings depending on wether you axe the Eisners or not, this lets player didn’t seem to have known you could spare Jeralt.

You know, it strikes me that Sothis, too, seems to have had significant character development in the OG timeline that she didn’t get here. You see a hint of this side when she wants the bandit in abyss executed. It’s striking that here she tells Byleth that she could have prevented this when in the OG timeline she tells them it was inevitable. Also she refused to possess them. She seems... more fierce, like you can tell she’s Rhea’s mom. I used to think that the bad stuff was all Rhea, but now I’m thinking she may have been not so unambiguously benevolent in the past, for all that she does have a level of actual care.

I appreciate Sylvain being very strict & fierce in telling shez not to guilt-trip themselves. He saw his friends go down that hole.

Poor Shez, cause, he was clearly starting to think of Rodrigue as a father figure, but not as long as Dimitri or the man’s actual son. It’s this crap situation where you’re definitely grieving but also arguably the one least affected.

ive looked it up - apparently you have to avoid triggering the ambush and make a beeline for randolph. then the Eisners surrender and you can hire them - Dimitri agrees to keep them out of Rhea’s sights, and thus everybody gets to keep their dads. well, back to the former lets play. ill miss out on hearing what byleth says if theyre standing around in your camp but im sure someone will upload the “recruit byleth” variant eventually. back to the first lets play for now

I’ve looked it up and apparently, Azure Gleam is the route where it is the hardest to recruit Byleth. Makes sense since Jeralt is hiding from the church.

Ok, this is worse than Azure Moon, actually, cause at least there Rhea steps down, only 3 of the main characters are necessary deaths, & Dimitri implements some proto-democratic or constitutional features. In this one, nothing changes other than that Adrestia's wiped off the map and what's it matter if its two territories or one? One could theoretically hope that Claude assassinated her & tracked down Shabhalla, but there's no guarantee. There's no guarantee that the peace between the Kingdom & the Alliance even held, it's kind of implied that it might not. The best case scenario really is, "Everything stays the same & Dimitri is remembered as a somewhat upstanding King" - One in a line, not a radical break. It's a status quo ending. Mildly improved status quo, I guess, I'm not saying Dimitri's reforms were nothing, but, its pretty bad.

I wanted to strangle the youtube commenters that were like “finally all 3 lords survived” I would not consider Edelgard alive in any meaningful sense of the word. She’s been dead for 6 months as this point (and everything was worse off for that). Being a vacant meat puppet is not being alive. Plus it’s heavily implied that Claude might well turn on the Church & Kingdom.... this is a pretty bad end. again, its objectively worse than azure moon or heck, even silver snow.
