A mistake I don't regret | Hazel Callahan.
AU established in the modern world
I don't know what's happening to me but I can't seem to stop writing. So I wrote this 👍
English is not my first language.
Song recommendation: I Know Places by Taylor Swift
Enjoy 🧡

"I finished." You celebrated by throwing your arms up and your head back, you could already feel the end of the semester at the tips of your fingers, you just had to hand in a few assignments, pass a test and you would be completely free for 3 months. The best moment of your life is coming, the holidays.
"I'm going now." You turned to Hazel's voice coming out of the hallway, she was dressed in brown jeans and a green flannel, the gray shoes were the same color as the backpack that hung from one shoulder. She stopped behind you, resting her hands on your shoulders and leaning down to look at the computer screen. "Now that you're done, are you sure you don't want to go?"
"I need to turn my brain off with a low-budget movie with lousy audio, but thanks."
"Good luck finding one worse than the one we saw yesterday." She told you as she messed up your hair.
From what you understood, Josie had received a new video game so she wanted to have a sleepover to try it out, she invited all the girls to spend the night together but this week had consumed you so you had to decline, you knew that Annie would bring her brownies and not being able to try them broke your heart, luckily Hazel knew you well enough that she promised to bring you some, you didn't know what would happen to you without her.
Getting up from the chair you followed Hazel to the door to say goodbye, this had become a routine that you had developed in the 4 years you lived together, every time one went out the other would leave her at the door, they had been doing it for so long that you no longer remembered who had started it.
"Tell them I said hello." You said, leaning on the nearby wall with your arms crossed watching the blue-eyed girl put on her shoes.
"Okay, I'll remind them not to call you so they don't bother you."
"Also remind PJ not to drink so much, I won't be there to clean up the vomit."
"I know." Putting on a red baseball cap in front of the mirror you had in the hallway, she sighed with false sadness. "We will miss you very much."
"Asshole."
Listening to her laugh you were grateful for having crossed paths with her in your life, she was one of the kindest, sweetest, most attentive people you had ever met. You met about 6 years ago when you moved in the middle of your high school years, you connected almost immediately that when you managed to get into college moving in together was more than decided. Everything had been perfect until now, or at least it was until you developed a crush on her earlier this year. It had started when she excitedly told you how she had started talking to a new girl, in the past when she did it you were genuinely happy for her, after all she deserved the best and more, but at that moment you felt like you had been punched in the stomach and spit in your face, the jealousy didn't last that long since that relationship lasted about 3 months, but afterwards you still felt guilty for feeling that way with your best friend.
"Take." You handed her the keys to your car, it was a fairly old one but it kept running, which was the important thing.
"Are you sure? I can order an Uber."
"Take it, it's much safer this way."
"Thank you." She said taking the keys and putting them in her pocket.
She began to approach so you began to stretch your arms waiting to receive the usual hug, when suddenly Hazel's left hand traveled up to your cheek and her lips collided with yours. Although you had looked at her lips an embarrassing number of times you could never imagine how soft they would be, it was just a small pressure but you could still feel something exploding in your chest and your pulse was beating so fast that you could hear it in your ears. You stretched out your right arm catching her waist but as soon as it started it ended and she pulled away from you.
"Tomorrow I'll arrive early so we can have breakfast together." And with one last toss of your hair she walked out the door.
What the fuck just happened?
Hearing the commotion from outside Hazel entered the house without knocking, at this point those formalities were not necessary with the trust they already had. Humming a song, she entered the kitchen to leave some snacks and drinks that she had bought for the night. After having almost everything organized, she called Josie to help her carry everything to the room.
"Hello Haze, what's up?"
"Glasses please." She ordered as she opened a Coke. "And nothing very interesting, did they all arrive?"
"Sep, you're the last to arrive. How is Judas?" She asked, leaving the glasses on the table and eating some potatoes that were on a plate.
Mr G had once called you that after he caught you cheating on a test, they never let you forget it.
"Well, she just finished some work so she was going to rest."
"More food for us then."
"By the way, is there alcohol? She asked me to take care of—."
But before she could finish saying anything, an image came into her head. Your mouth, her mouth, together. Holy shit. Dropping the glass of drink she put both hands on her head as she cursed. No. No. No. It couldn't be, she couldn't have done what she was remembering that she had done, that she had done to you.
"Hazel what the fuck? What happened, are you okay?"
It had to be some trick of her mind, it just couldn't be real, but it was, what the fuck had she done?
"Hey, what's wrong? Are you having a heart attack?"
"What happened, why so much noise?" She could hear someone's voice in the background but she couldn't identify who.
"I think she's having a stroke."
"What?!"
Trying to control her breathing, she turned to see the two girls who were in the kitchen with her.
"I kissed her." She whispered, unable to say it out loud.
"What?"
"I kissed her." She managed to articulate more clearly.
"What? Who?" Making eye contact with Annie she didn't need to say anything else, they had understood.
"Holy shit." Josie said with wide eyes.
"Was it with tongue?" Sylvie asked as she had just entered the kitchen.
"I kissed her." She repeated to herself without being able to believe it.
Leaving the video game more than forgotten, everyone settled into Josie's room as best they could.
"Why the fuck do you kiss her if you're going to regret it later? What a pussy." PJ judged Hazel sitting upside down in a chair.
"I didn't realize what I was doing, don't judge me."
"We don't judge you, we make fun of you." Sylvie clarified.
"But seriously, how do you kiss someone by accident? Aren't you hiding something from us?"
Although Annie's question was not intended to upset or offend, Hazel couldn't help but feel a hint of discomfort upon hearing it. Sure, you were her best friend and she loved you very much but it's not like she had those kinds of feelings towards you, right?
"I don't, I don't know what you mean."
"Looks like." PJ stung with intention.
Well, maybe she thought about you more than she should or looked at you for long periods of time when you didn't realize it, thinking how beautiful you were, but you were best friends, that's what they do, they care about each other and think they are the most beautiful people they have ever seen. What they probably didn't do was kiss each other and not feel a bit of remorse, because yes, Hazel didn't regret having kissed you, in fact, she had enjoyed it and suddenly found herself wanting to leave everything here and go home to finish what she had started.
"Oh my god, you want to fuck her so bad." PJ exclaimed when she saw the blush appear on the blue-eyed girl's face.
"Don't talk about her like that." It was the only thing she could say before remaining silent again with her head racing.
Okay, she could admit to feeling a small attraction towards you, something insignificant, or was it something more than that?
Suddenly a conversation came to her mind, one that she had with her ex-girlfriend before breaking up a few months ago, one where she complained that Hazel spent too much time talking about you and that she should choose between her or you. Swallowing hard, she remembered how she chose you in a heartbeat, without any regrets afterwards, because maybe, and only maybe, it was always you.
"I'm so screwed." She admitted with his face in her hands.
"Think positive, I had started to think that you were the problem with all your relationships ending, and that was the case, so."
"How is that positive?"
"That I was right."
She silently thanked Brittany for hitting PJ on the head.
Exhaling she turned to Isabel. "So, what do I do now?"
"Amm, I can help too, you know." Josie said hurt.
"Shut up, no, you can't, in your first kiss with Isa you almost fainted." Sylvie reminded her.
"Did you tell them?" She asked, very offended.
"Not now, baby."
"Okay."
"Look, Hazel, we can give you a thousand tips but the only way to clarify everything is to talk to her."
"I don't know, I don't even know if she likes me." She suddenly remembered something that made her want to dig a hole in the ground and never get out of it. "Holy fuck! I kissed her without even asking her, I'm a disgusting person."
"Oh please, if she hadn't been dying for you to do it." Annie told her, looking at her as if she were stupid.
"What?"
"It's true, she was dying those months you were dating that girl at the beginning of the year." Brittany said after a silence. "It was too obvious, actually."
"No, that was for something else, she told me. Why would she lie to me?"
"Why are you so worried about the kiss you just gave her?"
Confused by Isabel's sudden question, She decided to just answer it. "Because I don't want to screw up our friendship obviously." The raised eyebrows of everyone in the room made her understand. "Ah."
"Yes, ah, so now get up and go eat her mouth, you both deserve it." In the middle of her realization, PJ had walked towards her to pull her by one arm out of the room to leave her outside the house and close the door in her face.
Without really understanding what was happening, she got into the car and began driving towards her house with the screams of her friends behind her.
"Yes, queen!"
"Go get some pussy!"
"Good luck."
"Don't be like Josie!"
"I was very brave when I kissed Isabel!"
Standing outside the apartment she couldn't have the strength to enter. Would you be sleeping or watching TV? Maybe you locked yourself in your room so you wouldn't see her, maybe you hated her. Pushing those thoughts out of her head, Hazel inserted the key into the lock and with a sigh she opened the door and entered the apartment.
Her first impression of the place is that it was exactly the same, your computer was still on the table next to an empty glass, both the hallway light and the kitchen light were on, the only thing different was the sound coming from the living room and the darkest sky. She took off her shoes, taking more time than necessary, to finally stand up and give herself a mental cheer, at the end of the day you had been the one who was kissed out of nowhere and you needed answers.
The first thing she saw was the movie you had put on, on the screen was a very 2000s looking movie that she didn't recognize, going a little further into the room she could finally see you, you were looking at the screen but it was very clear that your mind was somewhere else.
"I thought you were arriving tomorrow."
Hazel jumped a little in her place, she didn't expect you to have heard her coming.
She shifted in her position and with a hand on her neck she tried to find her voice. "I came earlier" How smart.
"Why?"
"Um, I have to talk to you, because of what... I did, because of what I did to you."
"What did you do to me?" This time you turned to see her. Hazel scared and worried eyes looked bright from the reflection of the TV, you could see how she couldn't sit still and her messy hair confirmed that she had passed her hands through it many times, a sign that she was anxious.
"Are you angry?"
"I'm confused." You responded.
Hazel nodded her head and moved a little closer to you but without sitting down.
"To be honest, I don't have a clear explanation for why I did what I did, I'm sorry if it inconveniences you and if you want me to leave I will do so immediately."
"You regret it." It wasn't a question, from the blue-eyed girl's reaction you were sure that she considered the kiss a mistake, but her response made you swallow your thoughts.
"Unless it made you uncomfortable, I would never regret it."
A little shaky, you slowly got up from the couch without breaking eye contact, you were tired of so many crossroads and unanswered questions.
"I liked you Hazel, I liked you so much that it hurts, and, and I didn't know what to do or say because-because losing you would be the worst thing that could happen to me, but, but then you kissed me and I went crazy and I realized that I don't like you. I love you Hazel. I can't live a life without telling you how I feel, 'cause some part of me hopes that you feel the same way."
Your hands itched to grab something to distract yourself but you refused to move, you wanted your words to reach her with nothing but pure sincerity.
"You love me? Me?" Hazel's voice came out shaky and her eyes grew brighter with tears.
Shit, had you been too direct? There was no longer an opportunity to retract it and you didn't want to, if this was the end you were going to repeat it as many times as necessary. "Yes Hazel, I love you."
In less than three seconds Hazel was all over you, the impact of the body almost threw you back but her arms around you stabilized you, her face was buried in your neck and one of her legs was between yours. Although it was a fairly tight and suffocating hug, you never felt lighter and calmer.
"I love you too, you have no idea how much I love you." She said making her breathing tickle you. So you laughed as you wrapped her in your arms too, your chin ended up on her head where you placed a kiss and heard several I love yous coming out of Hazel's mouth.
You hugged each other for what seemed like an eternity, both of you holding onto each other not wanting to let the other go. After another while Hazel raised her head and one of her hands went to your cheek, where she caressed your cheekbone with her thumb.
"I love you." She said again with a smile full of emotions. Love, calm but excitement, happiness.
"I love you." You repeated to her, feeling the same way.
A shaky sigh escaped her lips directing your attention to them, you had kissed those same lips a few hours ago.
"Can I kiss you?" You asked with as much self-control as you could muster.
She didn't even respond to you when her mouth collapsed on yours, the hallway kiss had been just a small bump, two lips together just sharing an innocent moment, but this kiss was the opposite. Her mouth moved desperately over yours, while one of her hands went to your neck where she began to play with your hair, the other remained firm on your hip, keeping you glued to her. Tasting your lower lip you opened your mouth allowing her entry to explore, your hands went under her shirt, you were grateful that it was a loose fabric as it gave you more freedom to touch everything you could. With a shudder she pushed you towards the couch where, changing position, she sat down and you fell on top of her. Her wet tongue began to run along your neck, her hands went to your hair, pulling your head back so she could explore everything about you, your hands went in the direction of her bra that you unclasped almost expertly. Her mouth returned to yours where she began to leave wetter but slower kisses, her two hands went to your lower back, pressing you closer to her, after a few seconds the kiss began to become a little calmer to end with her placing small kisses all over your face, laughing breathlessly you rested your head on her neck.
"Are we something now?" You asked stupidly, it was obvious that oxygen still wasn't reaching your brain.
"Shit I hope so because I need to kiss you like that again."
With a sigh of relief you moved away from her neck so you could look into her eyes.
"Hazel, I love you."
"And that's why I'm the luckiest girl in the world." Savoring the moment, and her lips, you decided this was the best moment of your life, screw the holidays.

Tumblr media
You lean against the sink, palms flat against the countertop, your head hovering over the sink bowl, water dripping from your face. You, in a poor and ultimately futile attempt, splashed yourself with water to try and calm your nerves. Tomorrow was your first day at college, but not just any college; no, it was your first day at UA, the ultimate hero college. How could you not be nervous for something like that? You sigh deeply before standing up straight and grabbing a nearby towel to dry your face off; once finished, you begrudgingly shut the bathroom light off and make your way back into your room. You stop at the side of your bed, looking down at your bedside table and the clock on it.
The clock reads one a.m., and you groan; even if you somehow manage to fall asleep right now, you’ll still be completely dead in the morning. You ignore that thought and slip back under your covers, sighing. You lie there for what seems like an eternity with your eyes closed, tossing and turning, trying desperately to fall asleep but to no avail. You quickly return to lying flat on your back before turning your head to the side to check the time. You let out the loudest and most guttural groan in frustration, realizing it’s barely been ten minutes. Once you’ve accepted that you can’t fall asleep and probably aren’t going to for a long while, you decide to just lay there glaring at your ceiling, as if that would help your situation at all. Eventually, your mind starts to wonder toward everything and anything, from your first day of UA tomorrow to your childhood, and you suddenly remember him.
You frown at his remembrance; you haven’t thought about him in ages, nor have you seen him in ages—which makes sense given that the him in question is an imaginary friend from your youth, and typically, most college students don’t have imaginary friends anymore. Now that the first thought of him has occurred, you can’t stop the rest from coming. Recalling how you spent your entire childhood with him. You first met him a few months before you turned five. You had just come to the realization that you weren’t a late bloomer in developing your quirk; no, you simply didn't have one. So it’s safe to say that almost five-year-old-you was absolutely devastated and you cried yourself to sleep that night.
You ended up waking up in a cold sweat, soon realizing that this was not your bed—nor your room, for that matter. There were All-Might posters plastered all over the walls, and even the new sheets that covered you were All-Might themed. After looking around the room in confusion, your attention was drawn to a desk in the far corner of the room and the video playing on the computer that sat atop it. You made your way out of the bed and toward the desk only to find a little boy sitting there, a boy who didn't seem shocked to see you there at all. After a few minutes of talking with him, you learn his name is Izuku, and he’s also quirkless like you, something you were excited about considering how terrible and alienated you felt about it.
The two of you were inseparable after that day, or as inseparable as you and a figment of your imagination could be. Considering that you only ever saw him once you fell asleep, you spent more time sleeping than what would be deemed healthy your whole childhood, constantly sleeping just to spend time with your only (imaginary) friend. You appreciated having him around since he was constantly going through the same things you were at the same time. Like when, you realized you truly were just a late bloomer in middle school, and then that night when you saw Izuku, it turned out he was also a late bloomer. Though it was bittersweet, yes, you appreciated it, but how sad and lonely were you that your brain felt the need to provide you with an imaginary companion for all of your huge life experiences?
Though in high school you stopped seeing him when you slept completely, you were relieved at first to finally feel normal. Relieved to not be the only teenager who still had an imaginary friend, but that relief very quickly faded when you realized how lonely you were without him. Even though he wasn't real, Izuku was your closest and dearest friend, and you missed him so much it hurt. Most days, you'd take sleeping pills in hopes of seeing him again, but to no avail, your childhood best friend seemed to have been completely wiped from your brain. So you accepted it; it took a long time, but you eventually came to terms with the fact that he was just your imaginary friend, and that was all he’d ever be; he wasn't real, and he’d never be, so you stopped thinking of him. Until tonight, when you ended up dozing off while thinking about him.
☆。*。☆。☆。*。☆。☆。*。☆。☆。*。☆。☆。
You groan as you awaken to a faint light shining in your face. Your eyes shoot open when you remember that you didn't leave any lights on or leave your curtains open.
You’re not in your room.
Your heart begins to race.
You are not in your room.
You sit up straight, anxious yet impatient, and are pleasantly surprised to see the familiar walls filled with All-Might posters and the familiar All-Might themed bed sheets, which you can't help but laugh at because if Izuku ages when you do, he'll be a college student with All-Might sheets. Suddenly, your gaze darts all around the room, hoping to spot Izuku, but he's nowhere to be found, and you frown.
“I can make up his room again, but not him?” you mumble angrily to yourself.
You get out of his bed with a sigh and begin looking around his room; everything is mostly the same as you remembered it, but there are some new things. There are new pictures of him and his friends on his walls scattered amid the All-Might posters, as well as clothes thrown haphazardly on his floor and a messier desk. All in all, it appears to be his room, but a more mature version, which you chalk up to your brain just taking after your own room since it seems like your brain likes to do that a lot. You attempt to pick up some things from his desk only to be brutally reminded that anything you touch here simply ripples away before returning to normal, as if you just touched a puddle of water. Except for his bed, you can't physically interact with anything here. You dont hear the door creak open because you're too busy glaring at the stuff on his desk that you can't touch.
“Y/n?” someone calls out breathlessly from behind you.
You whip around so fast that you momentarily lose your balance, mouth agape, as you stare at the boy in front of you. “Izuku?”
He cracks the largest grin you’ve ever seen from him. He looks exactly how you remember him, yet different all at once. He still has his curly green hair that messily falls in his face despite his best efforts, and his cheeks are still permanently flushed with his constellations of freckles, but this Izuku is bigger. He’s tall and lean, you can see all the muscles that have grown on him, and you think if you ran a finger down his jawline, it would cut you. But it doesn't matter; you can't touch him anyway; he's not real.
“Holy shit! I can't believe it's you!” He exclaims excitedly, and he looks just like he used to when he would tell you about All-Might as a child.
You can't help but giggle at his excitement because you're feeling the exact same way. “When did you start cussing?” you ask, still giggling.
He rubs the back of his neck sheepishly. “Ah well, I picked it up from a friend of mine…”
“It’s really nice to see you, Izuku," you mumble softly with a grin as you take a step forward toward him.
Izuku’s entire face turns into the perfect hue of pink. “It's really nice to see you too, Y/n,” he mumbles back, “I missed you.”
He’s not real, what are you doing?
“I missed you too,” you say without missing a beat.
Izuku poorly attempts to bite back from smiling even harder than he’s already been this whole time as he walks to his bed. Once he's sat down, he pats the space next to him, and you go wide-eyed. He remembers that you can only interact with his bed?
You sigh and murmur to yourself, “Of course he remembers; he’s pretty much you, Y/n.”
He tilts his head at you. “What’d you say?”
You shake your head quickly and sit down. “Nothing,” you squeak out far too hastily for belief.
“Where have you been?” He blurts out quietly, and the way his voice wobbles ever so slightly sends a twinge of agony directly to your heart. God, your brain is very good at making him seem like he has actual emotions.
You sigh and fidget with your hands, which are resting in your lap. “High school was rough, but at least it's over now, right?”
He hums in agreement. “It was rough for me too... Do you wanna talk about it?”
You shrug. Oh fuck it, why not? This is essentially your brain giving you free therapy; you might as well indulge yourself. “I’ll talk about it if you talk about it.”
He nods enthusiastically. “Deal.”
You sigh before lying down, and he does the same, turning your heads to look at each other. “I’m gonna be honest, high school was only rough for like a few reasons.”
He frowns. “You say that like you think it means it shouldn’t have been rough... Any reason is reason enough.”
You give him a small smile before continuing, “One of them was just me pushing myself to my limit to try to get into college, another was just not really having any friends, and uh... The last one was because I missed you.”
You don’t miss how his eyes practically flutter at your words. “Would you believe me if I said all of those reasons were also why high school was rough for me?”
You hum. Yes, because he's literally just made up to make you feel less alone. “Zuku, you have pictures of yourself with your friends.”
“I know, I know! but I didn’t really make them until senior year…” He explains sheepishly. “You mentioned college; you’re going, right?”
You nod. “Yep, I’m assuming you are too?”
“Yeah!” he exclaims. “What college are you going to?”
You exhale heavily in defeat, remembering that you do, in fact, have college to attend when you end up waking up from this. “UA, I actually start tomorrow.”
Izuku sits up excitedly. “No way! I’m going to UA too!”
Of course he is.
You sit up with him. “That’s great, Zuku! I’m so proud of you for getting in. Not like it’s been the only thing you’ve ever talked about since we were little.”
He laughs, and if you were standing up, the sound would’ve made you weak in the knees. “I did talk a lot about that, didn't I? But didn’t you also talk about not wanting to go to UA?”
Even though you know he’s not real, you're flustered by how much he remembers about you. “Yeah, changed my mind.”
“And what made you change your mind?” he asks, coyly.
“Definitely not you.”
“Rude."
“Okay, maybe it was you,” you admit sheepishly, mostly because you’re embarrassed at how a figment of your imagination could have such an effect on you.
He smiles at you warmly and places his hand mere inches away from yours. Lord knows he’d love to hold your hand, but he also knows that if he even tries, you’ll disappear. “I never forgot about you, Y/n.”
You go wide-eyed at his unexpected confession, and a lump forms in your throat. “I—I never forgot about you either, Izuku,” you practically have to choke out the words past the lump in your throat.
“You know, we practically grew up together,” he reminisces fondly. “And we've still never actually, um, I don’t know, met in person?”
Cause he's not real.
“I know.”
“You should find me,” he whispers, his voice deep and low, and his eyes never looking away from yours, sends shivers down your spine.
You swallow harshly. “Find you?”
He nods, his gaze still unwavering. “At UA, we’ll both be there. Find me.”
You can’t.
“Okay."
He smiles softly, but there’s a hint of melancholy in it, and you realize why when he says, “One of us is probably gonna wake up soon.”
You feel your heart drop; he’s right; you’ve been here far longer than usual; it’s only a matter of time. “Izuku."
“Yes?”
Oh god, this is so humiliating. What has gotten into you? Why are you seriously about to confess to someone who isn’t even real? “Izuku. I lo-“
He puts his hands out in front of him in a stop pose and immediately interrupts you, “Don’t.”
If possible, your heart drops even more; actually, no, it doesn’t drop; it breaks. This is your brain, your imagination. Why is this not going as planned? How is someone you made up rejecting you?
“Don’t?” you ask quietly for confirmation, like you don’t even really want him to clarify what he meant.
“I know what you’re going to say, and I want to say it too, but I want to say it in person.”
Okay, well, that’s never going to happen.
“Izuku.”
“Please?" he pleads, his expression softening. "Find me and tell me that face to face.”
You.
Can’t.
“Okay.”
He can’t help but smile. “Okay.”
You return his smile before sighing. Oh fuck it, this is most likely the last time you’ll ever see him again. “I’m going to do something, but the minute I do, we’ll wake up.”
He looks at you wide-eyed, slightly afraid even. “Do wh-“
He doesn't have time to finish his sentence before you’re pulling him into your embrace, or you would be if you could touch things here, so the minute you do "touch" him, both of you are rippling away like reflections in a pond.
☆。*。☆。☆。*。☆。☆。*。☆。☆。*。☆。☆。
You jerked awake at the sound of your alarm clock, sitting straight up. Your chest heaves as you take in the fact that you’re back in your room and you just saw your imaginary friend, whom you're evidently not over, which is, within itself, embarrassing that you even caught feelings for someone who's not real in the first place, but you digress. You cringe as you have to practically peel your covers off of you from how much you were sweating. You quickly find yourself back in your bathroom, your head hovering over the sink and water dripping from your face. You, again in another futile attempt to calm yourself down, tried splashing your face, but like last time, it didn’t work. Every time you close your eyes or let your mind wander for even a second, you're met with Izuku telling you to find him. You can’t seem to escape how he was staring at you, like he could see right through you, like he was real and sentient. Like he wasn’t just a figment of your imagination. You slap your cheeks softly as if to slap the thought away.
After a few moments, you take a deep breath and point at yourself in the mirror. “No. Nope. We are not going to be delusional today, Y/n. We have places to be,” you say to yourself, half-heartedly.
And someone to find.
You shake your head at the thought before ignoring it ever happened and getting dressed.
☆。*。☆。☆。*。☆。☆。*。☆。☆。*。☆。☆。
By the time you were finished getting ready, it was already a little past eight in the morning, and class starts at nine, which wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the fact that you have to walk. You practically flew out of your house and down toward UA, never stopping for a second, even when you were breathing so heavily that it sounded like you needed medical attention immediately. You start to calm down a bit when you can begin to see UA, but you’re still running, even through the other college students who are calmly heading toward the entrance. But you can’t stop now because, honestly, if you do, your legs would most certainly give out on you and then you really would be late, so it’s either you keep running or you'll tumble to your demise. The closer you get to the entrance, the more people you have to run past and the more crowded it becomes, so it’s no surprise when you run into someone's back just as you're about to enter UA.
“Shit, I’m so sorry!” You exclaim breathlessly as you stumble backward from the impact.
The person stumbles forward momentarily before regaining their footing. They turn around to face you, reassuring: “It’s okay! Don’t wo-“
Both of you grow wide-eyed when you’re face to face with each other, and you feel your mouth go dry.
“Izuku?”
“Y/n?”
You don’t say anything; you simply stare at each other in disbelief until recognition flashes in your eyes, then excitement; your whole demeanor shifts as you realize what's happening.
“Izuku!” you exclaim excitedly as you quite literally jump into his arms, causing him to stumble backwards, falling down and taking you with him. You instinctively cover the back of his head with your hands to save it from hitting the pavement. It dawns on both of you simultaneously that you’re touching him. He’s real, you’re real—and you’re touching him, and he’s actually alive. He’s actually a person, a true thing, no longer just a figment of your imagination.
He smiles up at you, who’s straddling him from the fall, your face hovering over his. “You found me.”
You nod fervently. “You’re real,” you remark breathlessly.
Izuku reaches up and cups your cheek with one of his hands. “You’re real.”
You can't say anything or do anything but laugh with glee; he’s real. His curly green hair is real; his constellations of freckles is real; he’s actually real. You push a strand of his hair out of his face and watch how his cheeks flush scarlet.
“You’re staring, Y/n.”
“How can I not?”
You notice his adam's apple bob up and down as he swallows harshly and brings up his remaining free hand to cup your other cheek, both hands engulfing your face, and you know there's no way in hell he doesn't feel his palms burning from your face growing hot.
“Can I kiss you?”
You go wide-eyed, your mouth falls slightly open, and you catch his attention flit down to it before returning to your eyes. You nod slowly and lean down hesitantly.
Izuku meets you half way by lifting his head off the ground, and with his mouth just inches from yours, you close your eyes, nervous from the anticipation. You can feel his breath fan against your face as he prepares to kiss you. But when he does, he doesn't kiss your mouth; he more so kisses the corner of your mouth before pulling away slightly to see you staring at him in confusion, though you aren't confused for long when he suddenly and roughly crashes his lips against yours passionately, as if he’s been waiting for this, dreaming of this, and who's to say he hasn't?
You can't help but smile into the kiss, and he does as well. You pull away slightly, both of you trying to catch your breath, but even so, Izuku is looking at you puzzled and disappointed. Before he can ask why you pulled away, you lean back in and cover his whole face in tiny kisses, eliciting little giggles out of Izuku that make you kiss him even more just to hear the warmth of his laugh.
“I love you,” you mumble inbetween pecks on his face.
Izuku pulls away from your kisses, causing you to stop momentarily and pout, before he's leaning back in and kissing you all over your face.
“I love you.”

It was a Friday night your brother had invited his friends over to the house while you were out, they were all sitting in the living room, talking, playing video games, and scrolling on their phones. as Niki scrolled on his twitter time line, he noticed something which you posted not too long ago, when he clicked on the post he saw an unfamiliar male next to you. he furrowed his brows, the night before he had ask you if you wanted to hang out today but you declined,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“sunghoon, do you know who the guy is in Y/N’s post?” Niki asked as he gripped his phone in his hand tightly.
“yeah, his name’s Jeongin, he’s from Stray Kids. why?” your brother said as he mindlessly scrolled through social media, gazing up at Niki to see him making a displeased face at his phone.
“It’s just— yesterday I asked Y/N if she wanted to hang out today but she said no because she was tired but now she’s posting about being out with some guy I’ve never met before?” Niki says a frown as he sighs and puts his phone down next to him.
“she said it was a last minute thing, he asked her like last night and she said sure, she said she didn’t want him going alone of something like that.” Sunghoon shrugged his shoulders.
“how do they know each other?” Niki asked
“they met a few months before you two met, they bumped into each other at the mall and her coffee spilled on his shirt so she offered to buy him a new one but he said it was fine and asked to hang out instead.”
“that sounds like some sort of love story if you ask me.” Jungwon says, looking up from his phone and to the two boys sitting next to him. Niki’s eyes widen when he says this.
“no it doesn’t!”
“Riki’s got competition~” Heeseung teases as he pulls his gaze away from the game on the screen, Niki rolls his eyes at him, causing everyone to laugh at him.
“oh shut up.” Niki
“someone’s jealous~” Sunghoon says, laughing as Niki groans and runs his hand through his hair.
“I’m not jealous.” Niki protests which causes Sunghoon to smirk.
“oh yeah? don’t you remember what happened last time we had this conversation?” Sunghoon smirks as he looks to the younger, who was sitting there with a scowl on his face.
“fine. I am jealous, so what?”
“so what are you gonna do about it? are you just gonna let him steal her from you?” Jake asks with a raised brow and a knowing smile which was directed at Sunghoon.
“what— no! he’s not gonna ‘steal’ her from me.” Niki says with a scoff as he rolls his eyes, he then sighed and excused himself to go to the bathroom.
“so is this Jeongin guy interested in Y/N?” Jungwon asks Sunghoon, gaining the attention of the others as well.
“nope, they’re just friends. if anything, he sees her as a sister even more than a friend.” Sunghoon says with a smile, knowing he had started something. Jakes eyes widen before saying
“you had something to do this with, didn’t you?” he asks with an almost amused smile and wide eyes, Sunghoon nods.
“they’re taking way too long, I need to speed up the process.” Sunghoon shrugs as he pulls out his phone.
“this is so unlike you, Sunghoon! what happened to the protective brother Sunghoon?” Jungwon laughs along with the others as Sunghoon rolls his eyes in a playful manner.
“wait— check the timeline, Niki is losing his shit.” Sunghoon says with an upside down smile as he tries to hold in his laugh.
“well isn’t that why he excused himself to the bathroom, so he could take a shit?” Heeseung says, silence. it was silent as all of the boys turned to look at him. suddenly Sunghoon burst out laughing, along with the others. they spent a good while laughing until Niki finally came out of the bathroom.
“why are you guys laughing so much?” Niki says with a raised brow as he plops back into his spot on the couch.
“nothing…” Jungwon says, stifling his laugh.
“did you have fun losing your shit?” Jake says, Niki’s eyes go wide and everyone starts laughing once again.
“what the hell? are you guys on something?” Niki says, his face going slightly red, only causing the others to laugh even more. “you’re all insane…”
“yeah sure we’re the insane ones. at least we don’t have competition!” Sunoo says, Niki’s jaw drops and he yells
“I don’t have competition!”

In front of you a cake with light purple frosting and exactly thirteen candles sat on it . Your mom had ordered it and it was a special order for your birthday. You were excited to finally get into your teen years , and you were grateful your mom didn’t force you to invite your old classmates from school to your home, despite your father’s initial ideas. Instead, you sat at the table outside in your backyard, the same oak tree you always played under as a kid provided your family shade as you sat by the cake, whose candles you blew out just minutes before. You were content to just be with your brother, mom, dad, and a few cousins for the afternoon, rather than surrounded by strangers masquerading as friends. And now, you were excited to dig into the cake.
“ Wait wait wait- Before we eat,” Your brother spoke up, while your mom removed the candles with smoke still spiraling off their tips. “I wanted to give you my present.”
You gave him a confused chuckle. “Matty, you already gave me the present this morning, remember?”
“I have something else,” he said with a sly grin before jogging off back into the house.
You looked up at your parents, as if silently asking them if they knew what he was up to. Your mom shrugged while your dad only huffed.
When your brother came back, your jaw dropped and you gasped. In his hand was a bundle of fur , but most importantly, the said bundle was moving and when you looked closely you recognized it as a small German Shepherd puppy. He couldn’t have been older than 2 months. In typical puppy fashion, he wiggled out of your brother’s arms to scamper toward you.
“I just picked him up from the humane society an hour ago.” He let out a breathy laugh.
When he let go of the puppy, immediately the fur bundle tried to leap onto your lap, sniffing your face and giving small kisses near your nose as you bent down to carry him. You giggled at the tickling of his whiskers against your skin. You cooed lovingly and caressed his head and felt his soft fur between your fingers. Purposefully, you sang the dog praises loud enough to drown out the sound of your parents trying to reprimand Matty for this ‘expensive’ gift and the “ Matty, we’re going to talk about this later ”.
You beckoned your brother to come over to you, and when he did you hugged him tightly.
Your brother knelt down in front of you. “ So? You gonna give him a name? ”
You furrowed your brow, still petting the dog. “Oh shoot ! Now I have to think about that don’t I… ”, your brother shook his head amused at your conflict.
Before you could begin brainstorming, you heard the door from the house open and looked up. You saw Phillip there, closing the door behind him holding a gift box. When he glanced at you, he gave a small wave and one of his soft smiles. You stiffened, but you waved back hesitantly. You didn’t expect him to come. Suddenly, you felt nervous, embarrassed. Scenes from the night of that disastrous dinner flashing in your mind, him kissing Marisa by the pool also invading your thoughts. But you tried to brush them aside. And when you did you felt a hint of the same joy you always felt when Phil appeared. As if feeling your emotions too, the new puppy sitting on your lap yapped and barked happily at the sight of the new human.
Your brother glared briefly at Phil. “Dude, you’re late.”
Phil ignored his comment, focusing instead on you and the dog on your lap. “Holy shit, Matty—” Phil’s cursing prompted a low grumble from your dad “—I thought you were joking when you said you were getting her a puppy ,” he said as he approached you. “And you actually got her a German Shepherd. Jesus, he’s gonna be as big as a bear when he’s fully grown.”
The puppy then lept back off your lap and landed on the floor, clambering up Phillip’s leg trying with his front paws. He knelt down and gave the dog a few pets as well. “Man, I don’t know if my gift can top this,” he said with a small laugh as the dog also l icked his face. You felt your heartbeat quicken a bit at the mention of him getting you a present. You were surprised he even kept your birthday in mind, let alone wanting to give you something after what had happened.
He stood back up and dusted the grass off his knees. “Sorry, I’m late. Had to meet up with someone real quick on the way , it took longer than I thought.”
“Don’t worry, Phillip, we were going to save you a slice of cake just in case,” your mother warmly added, to which Phillip thanked her.
He handed you the box gently and said, “I made sure to bring you something though.”
You felt your throat tighten and you felt your eyes wanted to water from the emotions flooding you. Regret, from the dinner. But also adoration for this boy who felt like a second older brother to you, but even more than that. You couldn’t find the words to describe it. Instead, you held the present, unwrapping the lilac and silver wrapping paper slowly.
When you opened it, you felt your heart soar in your chest.
“Oh, my god…” you exclaimed, looking up at him in surprise. Phil had gotten you the artist kit that you had been dreaming about for months, but you could never afford with what little money you had saved. Your eyes shined with joy as you held the gift in disbelief. “I can’t believe you got this! You—you actually remembered!”
He furrowed his brows for a split second, but he continued to smile and tenderly placed a hand on your shoulder. “Of course I did.”
Standing much shorter than Phillip, you had to crane your neck to look at him, but your heart fluttered when you saw the warmth with which he looked at you. Without a word, you jumped forward and wrapped your arms around his chest, hugging him tightly. With the hug, you could feel all the shame and hurt from the past couple of weeks melt away. He hugged you back, his larger arms making you feel safe.
“ Oh, god! The dog is trying to eat the cake!,” your mom was panicking.
You pulled away from the hug and found that, yes, the puppy had its two paws on the edge of the table, his nose dangerously close to the slices of cake that your mom had put aside while she cut the rest.
“ So , what’s his name?” Phillip asked you gingerly but also choked back a laugh at seeing your dad scratching his graying head of hair in annoyance.
“I’m not sure…” you frowned at the thought, grabbing the dog and carrying him, you held him to your chest while he panted happily at Phil beside you.
He hummed in return.
“Why not name him Bear then ?”
He blinked and mulled over this for a few seconds, but gave you a playful smirk. “Bear… Yeah, I like it.”
The start of the school year was quickly approaching. You sat in your brother’s room as he was packing his bags for college and with a now slightly larger Bear chewing on a toy beside you. The next day, he was going to drive with your dad to College Station, where he was going to start his first year. You watched as he begrudgingly packed his clothes into bags, asking him questions about it. “Are you nervous?” “What classes are you taking?” and most importantly “How often are you coming back to visit?” You couldn’t deny you were going to painfully miss him. You were glad he had gotten you Bear to keep you company in his absence, but it wasn’t the same.
“I’ll try to drive back home every few weeks, okay?. And I’ll definitely be back for Thanksgiving.”
When he started packing his video game discs, you froze for a few moments, before asking him. “Hey, is Phil going with you too?” You now wondered why your dad didn’t mention also driving him to College Station with Matty.
Matty stopped packing and looked at you with a small frown, puzzled. “No, of course not. He shipped out last week.”
It was your turn to frown now. “Shipped out? What does that mean?”
He grimaced . “ Oh, he never told you…” He paused and ran his hand through his hair in frustration now. “What the fuck, Phil,” he mumbled under his breath. With a heavy sigh he looked up at you with regretful eyes. “What I mean is… he left to start boot camp with the Marines a few days ago, Y/N.”
You leaned away and stared in confusion “Wait, w-why would he…” you stammered, unable to finish the question. “He… left?” You felt your heart shatter but you were still so confused. A thousand thoughts ran through your mind. Since when did Phil want to join the military? He never did mention college to you, you suddenly realized. But when did he decide to just get up and leave? And why did he never tell you?
Your brother sighed again, “Yeah, that’s why he got here late as fuck on your birthday. ” Annoyance flashed in his eyes for a brief second. “He was at the Marines’ recruiting office, getting the paperwork done, setting up dates and… finalizing his decision to join, I guess.”
Your eyes were watering. You fought so the tears that were gathering behind your eyes . “Why… wouldn’t he tell me ?”
Matty opened his mouth to answer but he couldn’t find the words. “I don’t know, to be honest. I told him he should, but he didn’t say anything .”
You stood up from his bed and headed towards the door. Your heart ached at knowing Phil didn’t trust you with this information, or worse, you fear that he didn’t care about you anymore to tell you anything . “ Why did you keep this from me…?” you asked as you gripped at the door frame. You felt betrayed, ignored, small once again. You felt like the dumb little sister once more.
Your brother stood up and gently held onto your shoulders. “Listen, if I know Phil like I think I know him, he’d surely have a reason.” ‘What reason would have been big enough for him to hide about his enlistment?’ “Don’t forget, he cares a lot about you.” ‘Does he?’
You felt like your knees would give up , you leaned into his chest slightly as you tried holding back your cries, but ending up staining his shirt with your silent tears . “I didn’t think… I didn’t think he would actually hide this from you . He said something about not wanting you to worry about it. ”
On the bed, Bear nervously whined seeing you in tears. Matty wanted to guide you back to his bed to sit you down, but you removed his hands from your shoulders as you started to leave the room. Bear trailing behind you.
In your room, you sat on the bed as it became gloomy all of a sudden. Whenever something plagued your mind with concern or a wave of depression hit you, the atmosphere changes drastically in your room. Bear’s cold, wet nose poked your hand. You slowly raised it to gently caress the dog, feeling your cries grow into quiet sobs . Sniffling and your vision blurred from more tears gathering in your eyes, as you slowly laid down on the bed . Curling up on your side you cried into your pillow. You breathed deeply as you realized now: Phil could in a matter of months be in a warzone tens of thousands of miles away from home. The heartbreak and sense of betrayal that had stunned your senses were now inundated and replaced with fear. You didn’t know if you’d ever hear back from him. Knowing him, he maybe didn’t even have plans to come back to your town because his parents were never home. His house was never really his home.
“Oh, god, please ,” you thought to yourself, “please stay safe Phil. ”

idol!jimin x fem reader
wc: 1.8k
genre: one shot/smut
warnings: a little somnophilia kink but reader is consensual, dirty talking, unprotected sex (don’t do that), dad!jimin and mom!reader... i think that’s it?
SO i originally wanted to do this about jungkook on his birthday (the  for karaoke stuff) but i completely forgot i had this in my drafts so here we are… kinktober, jimin’s bday is coming you already know…
“Nianna? I’m home! You called out your nanny’s name, entering your apartment, which was in complete darkness.
As you were closing the door the lights lit up and the whole house entered in a completely different atmosphere.
"Happy birthday baby!" He chanted entering the living room with a cake in his hands.
You didn’t think you would cry, but you missed Jimin more than you could even imagine.
Not that he didn’t warn about what would have happened while he was on tour from the first moment you both started dating, almost 3 years ago. You remember vividly him kissing your lips quickly but so lovingly it felt like a last kiss goodbye, caressing your daughter and telling her "appa will be back soon", tears threatening to escape his eyes, knowing this tour would have took him away time from the biggest loves of his life, he looked at you with a shy smile before heading out of your apartment’s door with his luggages, knowing a van with blacked-out windows was waiting for him to head down to go to the airport and fly to chicago.
It's been seven months since you last saw your boyfriend.
Your daughter was an eleven-months-old and full-of-joy human being now, and she had her dad’s eyes.
Your little girl was starting to babble some words and search for her dad, you started to put videos of him on the tv and his voice lulling a song sweetly singing a lullaby on facetime to make her sleep.
You just wanted him back in your embrace to hug him tightly.
Jimin was lucky enough to come back home on your birthday, but he didn’t tell you one single word about it.
“You’re home!” You left your bag on the floor and jumped in his embrace, just to know it was real and not a dream.
You felt a little voice resonate in the house and Jungkook came out suddenly with Haewon wiggling happily in his arms. All the members came out behind them.
He put your daughter down, which immediately ran to her dad as you hugged the other 6 boys. “What’s with the surprise? I thought you were going to stay around the world for another good while!”
“Plans got changed and we came home to rest a while” Jimin smiled, kissing you on the temple. “That’s great!” you smile happily seeing how your boyfriend was picking up his daughter and letting her sleep on his shoulder. “I know you can’t know that because you’re not used to her routine Jimin but if you let me I should probably put her to bed, it’s way past her bedtime” “Let me do that, mommy” Jimin winked and went to Haewon’s bedroom, while the boys decided on doing a vlive as they usually do after concerts.
You followed Jimin and you stopped on the doorframe looking at the man you loved trying to ease your little creature to sleep and then, when her eyes were closed, he came to hug you, then he kissed you gently and you cuddled a little watching Haewon inside her crib.
Luckily she didn’t have any problem sleeping like a rock, nothing was going to wake her up, not even her uncles doing karaoke at 1 in the morning.
You were already asleep when the laughs and the songs they were screaming on vlive started to get a little too high. You didn’t want to hear not a single complaint from your neighbors in the morning, it was time to make them stop. So you got up, checked on Haewon (but as said she was sleeping like a rock) and headed to the living room, where 7 men were having the best laughs of their lives. It was amazing seeing them happy, but it would have been more amazing if they went to sleep, preferably in their own houses and not on your couch.
You got their attention by waving your hand while laying on the doorframe of the living room, then made the sign to stop. They nodded and said bye to the fans, closed the vlive and said goodbye to each other, while you immediately went back to bed, too tired to wait for Jimin, who came to the bed around 3 am after taking a shower.
He changed into pajamas and quietly entered under the covers just to immediately hug you and tell you he was sorry for not being present enough for you and Haewon.
He kissed your temple and then he fell asleep pretty easily.
In the middle of the night, he felt something on his chest that woke him up suddenly and it was you. Unconsciously, you moved over his body and tangled your legs in his. He was a little uncomfortable, but he couldn't be happier about the fact that you were finally physically around him.
You shifted a bit too fast on his body, causing your knee to lock with his legs and brush against his crotch, and if he didn't notice because he was falling asleep again holding a hand on your waist, his dick and your thigh definitely did.
You both haven't had sexual intercourses in months, and as much as Jimin wanted to keep himself stable and hug you tightly, his enormous and painful erection growing in his pajama wasn't helping him fall asleep calmly, he had to do something about it.
He tried to move you from him, to go in the bathroom and calm himself down without having to wake you up.
But when you suddenly babbled  "J-jimin" in your sleep, which almost sounded like a plea, his mind went blank and just needed his cock buried inside of you.
“Jimiin…” you whined lowly. "Baby that’s me, I'm here" he caressed your hair. "Are you ok?"
"Mhhh" a low pitched moan escaped your throat again. His eyes widened at the sound. “What are you thinking of, love? ” he understood by the way you were moving that you were trying to get some friction between your legs, and as he sneaked a hand in your joggers he felt your panties drenched in your arousal, and when he moved them a little to run a finger over your folds you jolted, so he knew you were having a wet dream about him.
He thought he needed to get you up to fuck and calm you both down, but then he remembered you saying you were ok with somnophilia, and his mindset completely revolutioned
"Oh my little girl is dreaming of me fucking her mercilessly as soon as i come home, isn’t she" he whispered in your ear, trailing kisses on your neck.
You move a little, his dirty talk entering your dreams and making you more wet. He quickly flipped you so he was spooning you from behind and he moved your undies to the side, and even though you were completely soaked, he carefully pushed a finger inside your wet folds to prepare you a little for his aching dick.
"My naughty little one, imagining taking my dick in your perfect tight cunt even when you are dreaming” he inserted two fingers in your heat and you gasped at the sensation, still not properly waking up.
He trailed his lips down your neck and kept pumping two fingers in and out of you while with the other hand he freed himself from the restraining sensation his boxers were giving him and started stroking his cock. "Jimin… please…"
"Please what, angel? You need to cum?" he said, pecking your nape with kisses, making your eyes open slightly at the contact with his lips. "Yes…Sh-it…don't stop please" you threw your head back just to see the smirk on his lips and kiss them hungrily. You felt your stomach tightening, you needed that release.
"Don't you dare cum now, doll" Your boyfriend spat as he removed his fingers abruptly from where you were aching from someone's touch. "But I need it..” You said sleepily. He turned you to his side and made your foreheads touch, his digits following the curve of your hips up and down. “Yes baby i know, but also my dick needs it and is so hard it hurts…if i promise to cuddle you tightly as we finish, can you please help me with my problem…maybe i will also make you cum.” he said with a grin while his finger gently traced between the valley of your breasts under his shirt you were wearing. “God Jimin please…I missed you so much I need you so bad right now.”
“Wanna ride me?” he asked softly “I'm tired…” you whispered “Oh baby I know, i just want you on top of me,then i will do the rest.” with a swift movement you were crouched on his chest, his tiny waist between your tights and his hard dick grazing between your folds to collect some juices.
“May i?” your boyfriend gently asked, and as you nodded you felt the tip of his cock stretching you open. He didn’t stop anyway, the squelching sound of your skins filling the room as he went all the way in to brush your cervix. “shit- Jimin!” you moaned in his neck as he thrusted quickly in your core, he kissed your neck and made sure to leave it blue.
He held you tightly in his embrace as he thrusted up into your hole. You were completely overwhelmed because your orgasm was denied at the very last moment, and you just wanted to let that go. “You close, princess? You're clenching fucking madly around me” “Y-yes!” you yelled, eyes rolling to the back of your skull. “Then be my good girl and cum for me” the rush of emotions made you clench around him so hard he came just seconds after you and splashed the white liquid where he wanted it to be, in your warmest point. He brushed some hair out of your face and kissed your cheeks.
“Hi” you whispered smiling as he was caressing your back in an attempt to calm your breaths. “Hello” he smiled fondly at your fucked up state. His dick was softening but he wanted to keep it there where it belonged.
You kissed his lips and sneaked your hands in his hair. “I missed you” you said, snuggling closer to his heartbeat. “I missed you too, but would you care to explain to me what you were dreaming about?” he giggled a little. “Trying different things in the sheets” you chuckled.
“Like what?” he asked, honestly curious. “We have the whole night and our whole life to try them all.” “Yeah… maybe tomorrow i'll speak up to you about the 'things'', but actually I just want you to hold me as I sleep”
"Sure" he replied. Those were your last words as he started to stroke your hair, cockwarming together and finally falling asleep too.

Car Accidents for Writers and/or The Curious
So two days ago (as of first writing it's now been two weeks) I was in a major car accident at highway speed. Luckily, I'm mostly okay, my car protected me and only my heel is broken. But going through that was an experience and a very weird and foreign one so I wanted to write it down, especially for any writers depicting car crashes.
So first of all I was driving a brand new 2023 Kia Forte. A car with lots of technical bells and whistles, full modern safety everything. Thank god, although it was only 3 months old, it probably saved me from further injury.
So what happened immediately before the crash is what I'm most hazy about in my mind. I remember seeing the car on the left, it was at a crossroads where my highway traffic doesn't stop, but the crossroad traffic does. So I THINK the other car was stopped at the intersection when I first saw him, but honestly I am not sure. I saw the car, it was heading for the space in front of me, and I had time to think "he's gonna see me and stop right...what the FUCK" --impact.
(Edit: Two weeks later - Upon thinking more about it, I think that I saw him start to move but thought he was surely turning right, because he wouldn't go straight when I was right there. It would have been perfectly legal for him to turn right then. But then by the time I realized he wasn't turning and was coming right for the space in front of me...it was too late to do anything.)
Rest of the post cut for EXTREME Length as well as accident details and medical details of the ER trip both of which could be triggering. Nothing bad or gory or anything, just, some people might not want to read them.
I think I may have actually been yelling WHAT THE FUCK as I hit him. It felt like I had a split second to hit the brake, which was not nearly enough time to accomplish something. In that I did hit the brake but it barely slowed me before I hit. I was traveling around 70 mph (which is the speed limit there).
So the impact. All I remember is sudden whiteness blocking my view, along with the force, something impacting me in the face. I had a split second where I thought "Okay this is it, this is real, I might be about to die." (Note: I was also able to accurately report where on the car I hit (rear passenger door) but not the type of car. I said sedan, but it was a minivan. I said white, it was silver.)
Oh and right as the impact happened, as I saw the door of the car I was about to hit, right before the airbag popped, I had the thought/sensation of "wait, no, do it again, wait rewind, wait, reload the game." It was the sensation that I, as a gamer, have when I fuck up in a video game. The instinct that has you reach for the pause button or the reload button or whatever. That's what I felt, except of course it was real life and I couldn't try that again.
So the air bag popped and blocked all of my view, so I suddenly had no idea where I was, which way I was headed, etc. Except the car was still moving, my foot was probably/possibly still on the brake and my hands were I think still on the wheel. (All of this, I don't really know for sure.) Probably not still steering, but I feel like I was? IDK.
The next thing I knew I felt a second impact as my car hit a metal pole with a highway sign on it, shearing it off entirely. I saw the sign fly past my car through whatever gap was visible to the upper left side past the airbag. So I knew what I had hit. After that I was on grass and the car came to a pretty quick stop. (note this car also has auto-braking when it senses something in front of you, but obviously it couldn't stop itself fast enough either. )
So the car stopped and I was sitting there and my first thought was "okay I have to get out of the car." I could smell smoke and oil/fluidy smells and my car was making a bunch of weird sounds so I was scared it might catch on fire or whatever. So I reached under the side airbag which was blocking the top half of the door and opened my car door, which opened fine. I undid my seatbelt and grabbed for my phone from it's place on the center console under the dash. I knew in my dazed brain that my phone was Important. I needed to Call Someone? Maybe 911? Maybe my husband?
So, clutching my phone in a death grip (not thinking about taking anything else) I crawled under the side airbag and basically fell out of the car onto the grass.
Immediately upon trying to get out I knew my right ankle was hurt. I've had a lot of ankle sprains in my life and I looked down and saw it starting to swell and knew I couldn't stand on it.
Pretty much immediately, or within seconds there were people there. There was a gas station on the corner so either they were there or they were stopped at the intersection waiting to turn going the opposite direction from me. (God I've just thought I could have easily hit them if I'd gone left instead of right. . . that was lucky.)
The two people who arrived, who had witnessed it were a black man and a white woman, I can vaguely picture them, though couldn't pick them out of a lineup fyi. They kept offering to help me up and I told them no, my ankle is hurt, I can't stand. They asked if anyone was in the car and needed help and I said no. As new people arrived I heard them tell new people that no one was trapped. I guess I was vaguely aware that there was a second car also stopped, but I filed that under Someone Else's Problem and focused on me.
Oh wait, I've just remembered I think I was standing on one foot, holding onto the door at first, when the woman came up and asked if I was hurt. Because I was brushing off my front...so here we get into weird details okay. So I was wearing a steel boned corset under my clothes that I always wear when I go out, for back support. It's custom made by me. And I noticed right away that the impact had bent the front busk of the corset. This is a heavy duty steel busk, extra wide, so it's almost 2.5" wide piece of heavy steel. And instead of my stomach impacting the steering wheel or WHATEVER, it bent it up to almost a 90 degree angle.
So I was noticing that, but also, I thought I might be on fire. I was very HOT. My clothes were hot to the touch, the front of my dress felt like it had almost been singed. I kept touching and checking myself to make sure I wasn't on fire anywhere because of how hot my clothes felt. I assume this is from the air bags and the force of the impact and the explosions that send them out...IDK. But yeah I was hot. So I kept touching my stomach and clothes and people kept asking if I was hurt and I said "No, I don't think so, just my ankle."
At first, though, I couldn't form words. People were asking if I was okay and I couldn't answer. I think maybe I nodded. So my responses were probably more like Yes and No and "Ankle" than I remember. I just remember some serious floaty, disconnected, stunned mindset where I couldn't make words right. Lasted maybe less than a minute or a minute or two, not sure.
Basically I laid on the ground and just breathed and tried to chill for a few minutes, responding as people came up and asked me things. I think I repeated a couple of times "he just drove right in front of me..." and witnesses backed me up, saying they were there and saw the whole thing and yeah he just drove right out in front of me.
Throughout this, the surreal thing was that my car was still running and still playing my music. So poppy Janelle Monae was playing from my car. I finally was able to coordinate enough to pause Spotify on my phone so it stopped. I asked one of the bystanders if he could turn my car off with the on/off button because I was worried about it.
A state trooper arrived fairly quickly and came over and asked me first if I was hurt and if anyone else was in the car. I told him about my ankle and no. He said "okay you just sit there [on the grass] that's probably the best place for you. EMS is on their way, should be a few minutes." To which I nodded. He then asked me for my ID. I told him it was in my purse which he fetched from inside the car and handed to me to find my wallet and pull out my ID. He asked me for my basic version of the accident, which I was pretty vague about "I was driving and he just pulled right in front of my car and I only had a split second to brake."
He asked which direction I was traveling, how fast I was going. When I hesitated over that answer he said "highway speed?" and I said "yeah, 70-75." I was slightly worried about admitting I was technically speeding to a cop, but he just nodded and was very chill about everything, so I wasn't TOO worried. He asked a little more after a couple minutes like which direction the other car was coming from and which lane I was in." Then he said he was going to talk to the other driver. At which point I remembered there was another human being involved and I asked if they were okay and he said yeah seems like it, they're just a little queasy from the seatbelt.
So from where I was on the grass and not moving, basically I was sitting in the V formed by my car and the open driver door, so I couldn't see the other car and had literally no idea about the other driver, couldn't have told you their gender or race or anything. I never saw them. (Later the police gave us their details and it seems to be a man, but their name and city is literally all I know.)
At this point I was starting to feel more together. I had been playing with my phone, trying to call my husband. But for a while I couldn't make my fingers find how to call him. And then I did it, but the call wouldn't go through. I was in a fairly isolated area with poor cell coverage, it's basically in the middle of a bunch of fields of corn and cotton and shit. So I was calling but not hearing anything on the line. And meanwhile people kept talking to me and the car was honking nonstop. Even after I got him to turn off the car, it was still making honking car alarm noises. Like yes car, I know you are in distress but please shut the fuck up.
I texted my husband instead. He was texting me by then because he could hear when I called him and he knew something was WRONG. So here are the texts. It's pretty funny.
Tumblr media
Cat totaled. Of course I didn't have my glasses so I couldn't see anything very well. I had been wearing sunglasses with bifocal reading glasses in them but they were uh, removed by the airbag. No idea what happened to them. He called me thankfully and that call worked so I told him where I was and that I was okay except for my ankle, etc. Of course I'm like the car, the poor car our new car is totaled and he's like fuck the car are YOU okay, etc.
Also when I exited the car, the witnesses kept telling me I was bleeding on my lips. I touched them and could tell my bottom lip was split. So I was like, yeah it's okay just my lip. Presumably from the impact with the airbag. It's cut on the inside from my teeth and still very swollen and in my way.
So I pulled my backup sunglasses from my purse and put them on to block the sun and laid back in the grass to chill. What sucked was that this is Texas and the grass had ants and they were crawling on me, but what could I do. I looked behind me and there was only more grass with car shrapnel and the highway which didn't look more comfortable to sit on. I asked the officer to get my tote bag out of my car, the bag with my dnd stuff which had a water bottle and can of coke in it. He got it but the coke can was totally dented and I couldn't open it. So I drank the water very gratefully because I was super thirsty.
oh and about this time the cop gave me a long speech about "You should drink a lot of water tonight and try to do some moving around because you're going to be sore and being in a car accident releases a ton of lactic acid into your body like you did a very strenuous workout...etc. " I basically just nodded and was like yeah i'm gonna be really sore.
At this point I figured I just had a sprained ankle and I would go to the er and they would check me out and I'd get an ACE bandage and be fine basically. I realized that the injury was from me trying to brake, standing on the brake and when the impact happened all that force transferred directly into my almost straight leg.
So the ambulance arrived and they came and asked the same questions. They had a bunch of people come to help get me to the stretcher. Basically they grabbed my arms and shoulders and pulled me backwards, telling me to push myself with my good leg. So I did that with them holding me up until we got to the stretcher and I sat down and swung myself around and was strapped down and lifted into the ambulance. They asked me if I had a preference for hospitals to go to and I told them the name of the big hospital nearby which I know our insurance works with because one of my doctors is there.
Then they just started asking me a bunch of medical questions about medications and conditions which I basically had to simplify, leaving out some of the minor things I have going on. Like I didn't mention depression or the antidepressant I take. I only told him some of my meds for my back. Not sure why, it just seemed like I needed to get important things across only.
He asked about where I hurt and I at that point told him about my shoulder hurting in addition to my ankle. He also told me about how bad that intersection is for accidents and how he'd been out there about an hour before for another (more minor) one and we talked about whether they needed to install a light there.
He was really nice and I liked him. I sent a text to my dnd chat while riding that told them I wouldn't be at the game. In the ambulance they checked my vitals and also took my blood sugar which I thought was kinda weird. I guess it's just standard.
We got to the ER and as they wheeled me through I heard the people saying "trauma 2, trauma 2 in room whatever, the trauma is here." So I realized that was me and they were treating me like a Serious Patient and not just an ankle. As I was rolled into the room a veritable swarm of people came with me and pulled me from the stretcher to the bed, bringing a lot of grass and dirt with me, by the way, which no one but me seemed to notice (And the nurse later).
Then they were trying to get my clothes off and a young man approached me with surgical scissors and said "Okay we're just gonna cut this off you" and I was like "No, please, can you not, I just finished sewing this!" and thankfully they were like well let's try. I was already like, I can do this, and pulling up my dress and wiggling. They probably didn't want me moving myself that much, but fuckit, I spent months on that dress I didn't want it ruined. (It ended up torn about an inch down at the neckline and has a couple inch long tear in the skirt from either me crawling out of the car or them pulling me to the stretcher.)
Oh and I had to tell them "I'm wearing a back support corset under here so it will be weird" but they were like "that's no problem" and they just reached down and pried the busk apart, (with me sucking in to help them) and pulling it free. So that was one anxiety gone. So anyway, they finally got the dress and all my shirts off while they pulled my bra free also. It's definitely weird having a swarm of people you can't really see grab you and start tearing off your clothes. I wasn't feeling at all worried about being exposed or anything, my only concern was for my clothes. Finally I was naked except for my underwear and they put a gown over me.
And then hooked up a bunch of wires and stuff. The EMT had started an IV in my hand but not given me anything. They also didn't give me anything yet, though I THOUGHT they'd hooked me up to saline or something but turned out no.
Then I talked to the doctor and repeated all my pains. They were like okay we'll get xrays and check you out all over. So they did the xrays in the bed and I had a really hard time moving my foot/ankle the way they wanted because I was like "I can't move it" and they were like, but okay flex more and I'm like "I can't." And then turn it to the side and I'm like, uh, it's not moving. And finally I had to like turn my whole body to the side to get the position they wanted.
Then they took blood and mostly left and there was one nurse left. "Can I have some water?" I asked, my most pressing concern because I was DYING of thirst. She was like "uh we have to wait and ask the doctor." And then a little while later she was like "is there anything I can get you?" and I'm like "again, water?" and she's like okay lemme go check.
So I finally got water and I asked the lady taking my blood if she could hand me my phone from my purse. So I had my phone hurray although I still had no glasses and couldn't see. But my texts showed my husband was outside so I asked if he could come back and they said sure. It still took a little while but they finally came and asked me again if family could come back and I said yes and then there he was.
Obviously that was a huge relief because I could ask him for stuff from my purse like my glasses. And we mostly just talked and looked at stuff on our phones while waiting for results. So finally the doctor comes back and is like so okay actually you have a broken heel bone and we're going to put you in a splint for now and then you will follow up with an orthopedist. And he did that and that was pretty painful. By this point they'd given me something in my IV that was helping with the pain but still having them try to force my foot upright was super painful.
Then they said they needed a urine sample and the nurse was like do you want to try a bed pan or me to do a catheter. And I'm like I guess bed pan. Which, I didn't know, is basically just a hard plastic bowl that you sit on and the edges dig into your butt and thighs. And she tries to explain how to go and I'm like okay I'll try but I totally failed. Because I was still massively dehydrated. I'm like "if you'd given me more water like I asked, I might be doing better at this." Finally they started me on IV fluids and I got my husband to get me my water bottle. Then they did a catheter except they still couldn't get urine and they did it a second time with a better nurse and finally they made me laugh and that made some come out so they made me keep laughing until they got enough of a sample. So I'm definitely making the nurse stories for that one.
By the way, did the catheter hurt. Yeah, a little. It feels like what you'd expect. It's pokey and doesn't feel good, but once it's in you can't feel it. Also I was told my "anatomy" made it easy to see what they were doing which, I'm like is that a compliment on my pussy or what?
Anyway after that it was just waiting waiting waiting. They were checking for damage to my kidneys or I guess other indicators through blood tests because they came back to draw more blood twice.
Finally like five hours after the wreck they let me go. And gave me very little information about anything, actually I could complain a lot about the way the ER handled things but like that's not the point here.
We were both obviously starving because we hadn't eaten so we had to drive through the only thing open which was a 24 hour mcdonalds.
They didn't give us crutches, just told me to use them, so we had some from when my husband was in a car wreck and wheelchair bound for months. So he had to go in the house and find those and bring them out to me. Our door is very far from the driveway so I had a long way to go on crutches and it was very difficult given my pain situation and how my shoulder and ribs on the right side hurt. So once I finally got to the door he got a rolling chair that I sat on and he wheeled me to the bedroom.
That night once the meds they gave me in the ER wore out I was in terrible terrible pain. I'm a chronic pain patient on an opioid patch and it was insane. Ten on the pain scale. I wont go into too much detail but god I wanted to die or like, just cut my foot off. I took pretty much anything I could to try to help the pain, after some quick interactions googling. And took an edible we had and that was what finally let me get any sleep about 5 in the morning once it kicked in.
It's now two weeks later and...what is recovery from a crash like that like? Well it sucks honestly. I got very lucky in my injuries but the broken heel is way more painful that I would have imagined, sometimes radiating pain all the way up my leg to the crotch. And worse than that has been the rest of my body that didn't get diagnosed with any injuries but obviously went through major trauma.
My ribs have been very sore in a couple different places, making it difficult to move, sit up, lay on one side, reach for things, laugh or cough. And I pulled something in my right shoulder though they didn't see any damage on x-rays but it's taken two weeks to start to feel like I can use my right arm much or move it without terrible pain.
I've spent most of my time on pretty heavy meds, thanks to my pain doctor, but still all the time I've been massively uncomfortable. And trying to do anything is really difficult because I have to use weird muscles to pull myself up to standing or whatever without putting weight on my right foot, and then those muscles have gotten sore. It was about two days after the accident I reached peak Body Pain, after trying to get around on crutches with an injured/bruised ribs and messed up shoulder. I got to the point I couldn't get myself up to go to the bathroom on my own at all. Thankfully then I got a kneeling scooter thing which is an absolute requirement for getting around in this state.
So yeah today is two weeks and I feel like I'm just starting to get back to almost normal functioning, except for my broken foot. Taking meds less often, and then only because the foot starts throbbing. (Did you know heels are very painful things to break? Neither did I? I'm lucky I don't need surgery because frequently this injury can cripple you if you don't have surgery.)
Anyway, I don't know if anyone will have read all this, but I feel like it's worth documenting the experience. I was originally going to post this within the first few days of the accident but then the real bad effects started kicking in and then uh, there was the Lahaina thing. (My closest family lives there. They are safe along with their house but...my little tragedy didn't feel important in the face of that.)
At any rate, please drive safely, this experience sucks and I don't recommend it.

A Choice To Make
CW: Restraints, Drugged Whumpee, Imprisonment, Threats, 15 year old whumpee, whumper is his dad, technically post-apocalypse, human weapon
Synopsis: Everyone was told that Asa was unwell, that he's crazy, and that Adam is treating him with the utmost care. But Bella believes otherwise. So she goes to find Asa herself.
-
She creaks the door open, waiting for the inevitable alarm or siren. But somehow, the silence is even more disconcerting. There, sitting in a chair at the center of the room, is Asa.
From a distance, he looks like less of a human and more of a doll. His black hair falls limply over his face, head lolled down to his chest. His arms and legs seem to dangle from his frame like pipe cleaners, held in place by metal restraints. Restraints that are wholly unnecessary, given his physical state, and must only be there to prove a point.
Bella swallows as she approaches. Her footsteps sound like gunshots in the quiet of the cell. And yet, Asa does not lift his head. Up close, the reason why is obvious. An IV, sharp and glaring, protrudes from the back of his hand. Bella follows the line with her eyes to the bag of clear liquid hanging on a hook above him.
Then she looks back to him, to the boy that she so quickly dismissed. To the boy who was right about Adam all along. With a trembling hand, she nudges Asa’s head up to see his face, expecting to find him fast asleep.
Big brown eyes are staring back at her, hazy and unseeing.
“Jesus Christ…”
Adam did this. Adam turned his own son into a weapon. And when that weapon stopped being useful, he left him here. Restrained, drugged, and so utterly alone. Bella has never been a very emotional girl… but this just might be enough to make her cry. That is, until her sorrow is quickly replaced by rage.
With a huff, Bella rips out Asa’s IV. Golden blood pours out behind it. Bella swears, scanning the room for a bandage, some gauze, paper towel, even. But the cell is as barren as it is tiny. Finally, with a groan, Bella uses her shirt to apply pressure to the wound. It isn't without difficulty. Asa’s blood seeps into her clothes, making her look like she's been gilded. But eventually, the bleeding comes to a stop, and Bella breathes a sigh of relief. All the while, Asa’s enhanced metabolism fights off the remaining drugs.
“Hnn…” He groans. Bella puts a hand on his shoulder.
“Asa… you alright?”
He moves at a snail’s pace, but sure enough, he lifts his head, blinking in the synthetic light. His eyes land on her. For a moment, there's no recognition, but his mouth forms the word.
“B… Bella?” He whispers.
Bella tries for a smile, but it probably comes out more like a grimace. “Hey, Asa.”
Asa swallows several times, probably buying time for his brain to come back online. Finally, the haze in his eyes seems to clear up completely. He looks at Bella with an awareness that wasn't there before.
“What are you doing here?” He asks, suddenly very serious.
Bella opens her mouth to answer, but finds she doesn't have one. What is she doing here? Asa isn't exactly her friend. She should be in her room, playing video games, drinking coffee, sucking up to Adam when she wants something. But here she is, potentially getting into huge trouble just to talk to a boy she can't stand.
And then she remembers what she saw. The pillars of fire with golden smoke. The news reports of people dying on the streets, before the news went utterly silent. She remembers Adam's cold grin, looking out to the wreckage he had caused. And she remembers what Asa said, all those months ago.
He's not going to save the world, he's going to destroy it. And he's gonna use me to do it. You have to help me.
You have to help me…
He tried to warn everyone, but they didn't listen. Bella didn't listen. She was too blinded by Adam’s mask, his kindly, generous disguise. And now it's too late. As much as Bella hates it, she can't help but feel a crushing guilt.
Maybe that's why she's here.
“I… I was just-” she stutters, lamely. Reaching for a plausible excuse. But luckily, Asa cuts her off.
“How long have I been down here?"
The question catches Bella off guard, but she's thankful for the distraction. She thinks back to the last time she saw Asa, kicking and screaming as Adam dragged him to the basement.
“About two months, I think.”
Asa doesn't seem shocked by that. Just resigned.
“Oh.” He says. An awkward silence falls over the two. Until Asa gasps, meeting Bella’s gaze with renewed intensity. “My dad- the- the serum! Did he do it? Did he release it on the world?”
Bella considers lying, but decides against it. Asa’s already in a cell, the least she can do is be honest with him.
“Yeah… yeah, he did.”
Asa falls silent at that, but the expression on his face makes it obvious what he's thinking. It's all my fault.
“How many…” Asa falters. He can't bring himself to ask. He doesn't need to. Bella knows.
“He released it on the day he locked you down here. Since then… about 80% of the world population has died.” She tells him, trying not to think too hard about the scale of that number. About the children waking up to find their parents cold and unmoving, about the airplanes that fell out of the sky, about the fear and confusion permeating the whole world. Instead, she looks back at Asa and really takes him in. He looks so small in his chair, so… defeated. Like the only thing keeping him from crying is the fact that he has no more tears left to shed. The fact that someone as pathetic as him is technically the cause of the end of the world would be laughable in any other context. But now Bella feels only pity.
“I’m sorry-” She starts, but Asa cuts her off.
“You shouldn’t be here.” He says, with a startling amount of intensity.
Bella can’t help but be slightly offended. “I came here to visit you, asshole. I didnt need to come here.”
“You shouldn’t have.” Asa insists, “Dad comes down here every once in a while to feed me. You can’t let him see you.”
Bella bristles, realizing that the feisty and stubborn boy she knew is long gone. Maybe he’s even more of a doll than she thought.
“He can’t just keep you down here like this, drugged to hell and back. Maybe I can talk to him-”
Asa pales, “No, please don’t. Don’t let him know you saw me. Just go.”
“He’s your father-”
“HE’S A MONSTER!"
Bella falls quiet. They both do.
Asa is the one who breaks the silence.
“Please, Bella… just forget about me. Don’t come back down here. It’s not worth getting on his bad side.” He starts to tear up. “I can’t… I can’t handle anyone else getting hurt because of me.”
Once again, guilt rises to the surface of Bella’s chest. She swallows it down.
“O-okay… I’ll go.” She says. And for the first time since she’d met him, Asa smiles.
“Thank you.”
Bella turns to go, but a thought occurs. “Wait, what about your IV? He’ll notice it’s out.”
“It’s fine, I manage to rip it out all the time. He’ll blame me.”
“But won’t you get in trouble?” Bella frowns.
Asa shakes his head, “I’m already sitting in a cell. He can’t do much worse.” He laughs. It's the kind of humorless, dry laugh that Bella would associate with a war vet, not a 15 year old boy.
“Now go,” Asa says, smile fading as quickly as it came. “Get out of here before he notices you're gone.”
Bella doesn't wait to be told again. Her mind is racing as she sneaks back up the stairs and through the halls of Adam’s compound. How can she continue on as normal, knowing that Asa’s deep underground, a plaything to a mad man? But more than that, how can she keep what she knows a secret? Every day, more and more refugees of the apocalypse seek shelter in Adam’s vast commune. They worship Adam like a king… like a god. But if they knew the truth about Adam, about Asa, about everything, they would revolt.
She slows down as she arrives at the courtyard, and one thing becomes clear.
…She has to tell them. They can't go on believing that Adam has their best interest in mind. If he'll do something this horrible to his son, then none of them stand a chance. She has to warn the others before it's too late.
Thoughts of revolution and chaos dance around Bella’s head, pulling her attention away from her surroundings. That is until she all but collides with the very person she's plotting against.
Adam steadies her shoulders with firm hands, “Woah, watch where you're going.” He chuckles.
His suit is pressed creaseless and his hair is groomed to perfection, as always. Bella has long thought he more closely resembles a mannequin than a human. If Asa is a doll, then clearly this is where he gets it from.
“A-Adam!” Bella balks, heart and mind racing. “I'm sorry, I was just…” She trails off. Normally, she'd whip out an excuse from the tip of her tongue, lying with all the ease of a practiced politician. But it seems the day’s events have left her brain scrambled.
Adam looks her up and down with an unreadable expression. It's not unusual for him, and yet Bella can't help but feel like the word GUILTY is written on her forehead. She needs to escape his scrutiny and fast. Before she buckles completely.
Luckily, Adam clears his throat and offers his own change of subject. “So, what have you been up to?”
“O-oh, y'know, just hanging out. Taking a walk.” Bella smiles weakly. Adam replies with a smile of his own.
“Of course, of course. It's a beautiful day.” He gestures to the wide expanse of greenery within the courtyard. Looking out at the clear blue sky, the birds flapping their wings in the distance, it's almost like nothing's changed. Like just beyond the compound walls, people aren't dying by the thousands.
“Yeah…” Bella says, taking a step back. “Anyway, I'd like to continue my walk if it's all the same to you.”
“Oh yes, excuse me.” Adam nods, and Bella takes that as her sign to get the hell out of dodge.
She begins to speed walk in the opposite direction. Is it her brightest moment? No, it's not. But right now she couldn't care less about appearing “tough.” All that matters is getting to the others, telling them the truth, and figuring out a way to bring a stop to Adam once and for all.
She only gets a few steps away before Adam calls out behind her.
“Oh, Bella?”
She freezes.
“Y-yes?” She asks, turning slowly. Adam’s golden eyes seem to pierce directly into her soul. He smiles.
“If you’re going to lie to me, at least wash your shirt first.”
Time slows. The birds stop chirping. Her heart stops. She looks down, and to her horror, she sees Asa's shining, golden blood staining her shirt. In her hurry to leave, she'd completely forgotten about it.
When she looks back up, eyes wide, Adam is towering over her. Smile gone, replaced by a scowl.
“I- I didn’t-” Bella stammers, trying to come up with some sort of lie, but Adam silences her with a hand on her shoulder. He squeezes tight enough to leave a bruise.
“Save it.” He says. Bella’s mouth snaps shut. He stares into her eyes for a moment, as if looking for something. Before finally letting out a sigh. “I’m curious. Why risk your position here for a boy you hardly know?”
Once again, Bella wracks her brain for an answer. Why? Why did she do it? Guilt yes, but there has to be something more. And then it hits her.
“You need to be stopped.” She whispers, voice weaker than she'd intended it to be. Adam hears her all the same. He tilts his head.
“Stop me? Why would you want that?”
Still playing the hero of humanity, even now. Even when his hands are drenched in blood, he claims to be a savior. Bella would be offended that he's still putting on an act, but it's clear that Adam truly believes in what he's saying. That's what makes him dangerous.
Bella glares, “He… Asa was right about you… every word.”
The hand on her shoulder tightens to a painful degree.
“Well, now you know what happens to people who are right about me. They end up underground, where no one can hear them scream.” Bella's eyes dart to the entrance of the basement, where Asa is sitting in his cell, alone and miserable.
“So is that what you want? To be right? Or do you want to keep living in this paradise I’ve created? With everyone else who’s wrong. The choice is yours.” Adam pauses, giving her time to think.
And Bella does think. She thinks about Asa, about what he'd choose. But in the end, it doesn't really matter what he chose, does it? He stood by his ideals and paid for it with his life. Sure, he's not dead. But the life he's living is no life at all.
All Bella wants… all she's ever wanted is to be happy. So the question is, can she be happy living a lie? In a paradise built by blood? Can she be happy walking in the sun while Asa rots underground? She's not sure. But she's sure of one thing.
She wants the chance to find out.
She nods, lowering her head. Adam removes his hand for a shoulder with one final squeeze.
“Go near Asa again, and you'll end up in the cell next door. Got it?” He says, and Bella doesn't doubt that he means it. She nods once more.
Adam’s smile returns, as if it never left.
“Good. I’m glad we understand each other.”
Then he walks past, whistling a happy tune, leaving Bella to think about what she's done.

𝙰𝚏𝚝𝚎𝚛𝚐𝚕𝚘𝚠: 𝙰 𝚝𝚜𝚒𝚝𝚙 𝚛𝚎𝚠𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚎
Synopsis: You return to Cousin’s beach after three years and suddenly everything has changed. Torn between the two brothers, a complicated family and a new job you try to make the best of this summer, hoping that maybe different can be good.
Tumblr media
Part 1: Summer nostalgia
Word count: 3k
It’s finally summer. For the first time in three years you are finally returning to Cousin’s beach. You are sitting in the passenger seat, your mother driving while your older sister sits in the back, headphones in her ears. The radio is playing softly and the wind is blowing through the car.
You have been waiting for this for months now.
The last time you walked these paths was when you were fourteen, and it seems forever ago that you last swam in the ocean. You can still remember the way you swam around with Belly, Steven, Conrad and Jeremiah.
Over these past three years you had only really kept in contact with Belly, her being the only one to know what actually happened. You kind of froze the two Fisher brothers out which had not been fair to them but you had been overwhelmed at the time.
Now you regret your choice. You missed, still miss them. They had been your best friends and the few ‘Happy Birthday’ and ‘Merry Christmas’ texts weren’t nearly enough.
Belly had sent you photos and videos of all of them together, but it was not the same. She had never been allowed to tag along with them, Steven always making sure to exclude her while you had always been allowed to go. Half of the time you still spent your time with Belly, not wanting her to be lonely but the memories you made with the boys had been special too.
You look down on your phone and see that you missed a text.
Belly:) : i’m here already (3:28pm)
Belly:) : please tell me you are coming over for dinner (3:28pm)
Belly:) : i’m completely drenched and miss you :( (3:29pm)
You had never stayed at the Fisher’s house in the same way that Belly had. Your family had always rented out the same small apartment a few minutes away from the Fisher’s house, but you often slept over anyways.
“Mom, can I go over to the others for dinner tonight?”, you asked your Mom.
She made a left turn and you were only a few minutes away now. “I’m sorry sweetie, but I think you are going to have to make dinner tonight.”
Not trying to show your disappointment you smiled, “Yeah sure. Are you both okay with noodles and red sauce?”
Both of them nodded.
Your mother caught your eyes and worded a ‘thank you.’
You: i can’t today, have to make dinner (3:56pm)
You: i’m totally coming over after tho (3:56pm)
Belly:) : can’t wait!! (4:00pm)
You lean back in your seat and look out of the window. This summer was going to be different than usual but it was going to be fine. Everything was going to be fine.
~*~
When you had settled back into your room you walked past your Mom’s room and you realised why she had asked you to take care of dinner. A little over three years ago your parents had gotten divorced. Then, one day on the way to court your father had been in an accident and passed away. Your mother had never truly gotten over the guilt she felt because she had been the one to suggest the divorce.
This apartment was still full of memories of your Dad and your Mom must remember them the same way you did because she was only sitting blankly on the bed, staring at the wall opposite her.
You clenched your fists and walked away. There was nothing you could do for her when she got like that. Her therapist had told you that these episodes would fade but with these new memories it must be a setback for her.
In the kitchen you boiled the water and put in the salt. Everything was going to be fine. You knew how to make a few basic dishes without burning them or you now and you knew how to take care of your mom now.
It was going to be fine.
After setting the table you called your sister. When she saw the way you had only set out two plates instead of three she shot you a betrayed look and left the table. Mom had always been her favorite parent and she was mad at you for wanting to come here even though it meant that mom wasn’t going to eat with you for a few weeks.
You eat alone.
After washing your dishes you prepared a plate for your Mom and knocked on her door.
She doesn’t look up from that sopt of the wall and you sit down next to her.
“Hey Mom, you haven’t eaten yet.”
She barely hummed in response.
You sent a text to Belly to tell her that you were going to come later than expected.
Cutting the spaghetti in smaller pieces you put some on the spoon and nuged your Mom with your shoulder.
“Look, I even cut them in the way you like.”
She turned her head to you but her eyes still seemed far away. Still, you put the spoon in her hand and made sure she ate at least half of the plate while chatting about your friends back home.
After you looked in the mirror and hung your head. Was this really worth it? When you talked to her therapist she told you it was, but now you weren't so sure anymore. While changing into your favorite jeans, a top and a button down texted Belly that you were on your way now.
Climbing out of your window and landing soundly in the grass you almost ran over to the other’s house.
You had never been more glad to live on the ground floor.
~*~
When you arrived at the house you saw Belly sneaking out the back. You waved at her and she made a sign to come and follow her so you did.
“What are you doing? I thought we were just going to stay in?”
“Shhh, keep your voice low,” she gestured toward the living room window where Laurel and Suzannah sat on the sofa.
You nodded.
Around the corner on the way to the beach she let out an audible breath and giggled, “I can’t believe I’m sneaking out of the house now.”
“Me neither,” you answered, “what are we doing anyways? Not that I mind going out with a pretty girl like you.”
You winked at her, she laughed some more and linked your arms. “Tonight you see, we are going to go to the bonfire.”
That peaked your excitement. You had always loved the bonfire. “You look so pretty in your dress, but are you sure you aren’t going to be cold?”
“Yeah I think I am. I just, I don't know, I wanted to be the pretty one too, you know? But I kind of regret it now.”
“We aren’t having any of that today,” you said and took a step away from her to stand in front of her, “this summer is going to be your summer and you are going to look pretty every single day, okay?”
Shaking her head at your words but smiling she agreed.
You still took off your button down and handed it to her and when she accepted it you made your way down to the beach.
~*~
At the bonfire you made sure that the creep that approached Belly was really gone and when Steven came over with a girl by his side you made sure to introduce yourself to her too.
The four of you chatted for a while but it was clear that Shayla and Steven wanted some alone time so you and Belly made your way closer to the bonfire.
“I want to get a drink, you want something too?”, you asked her.
She shook her head and after making sure that she was going to be fine there you made your way to the cooler. From what Steven told you you were allowed to just take the beer so you did just that.
“Hey there, are you here alone?”, you got asked by a guy standing next to the cooler.
Not really wanting to talk to anyone new today you said that no, you had company but he didnt seem to get the hint and kept talking to you. When you searched for Belly you found her at the side of the party, sitting in the sand with another guy you didn’t know. You wanted to yell her name but when the other guy put his hoodie over her shoulders you hesitated because she looked really happy.
The guy was still talking to you and you really tried to get away but you didn’t want to be rude in case this was his beer.
But when he leaned closer and asked you, “Do you want to get out of here?” you panicked a little but still said, “I’m sorry, but I-” when you get interrupted by an arm around your shoulders.
Who-
“Dave, hey man, but she is actually here with me today, aren't you, love?”, he looked at you and fuck you knew you had to answer, so you mumbled a ‘yes’ and the other guy backed away.
Jeremiah Fisher.
It was Jeremiah Fisher. And he had grown up. Really grown up. Before you had always thought of this little idiot but now he was taller than you and he looked good. Better than good even. Your breath got taken away for a second there.
“Y/N it really is you, I can’t believe it!”, he said as he put both of his hands on your shoulders.
“Jeremiah?”, and that smile he gave you was the same it had always been, but his teeth seemed a little straighter than years ago.
His expression melted into something softer and he swept you off your feet, literally and twirled you around. You laughed because nothing had changed. There had been no reason to be nervous about the boys, they had always been your best friends and a few years wouldn’t change anything.
When he put you down you both just looked at each other for a second before he buried his head in the space between your head and your shoulder and you hugged him back just as tightly. He whispered, “I really missed you.”
Your throat closed up, but you whispered, “I missed you too.” back anyways.
Then the moment was over, he put his arm around your shoulder and you took a sip of your still cool drink.
“Come on, I have to find Conrad so that we can all catch up together,” and with that he leads you a little further away from the fire, in the opposite direction of Belly.
“I actually have a job this summer.”
He turned his head at that, “No way, me too? I’m a lifeguard at the country club.”
“No way, I’m a waitress there!”
“We totally have to take the same shifts. Steven is probably going to have a weird schedule because I bet that Shayla is going to rope him into being an escort.”
“Steven? An escort? I can’t believe this.”
He laughed and tilted his head back and you admired his face, illuminated by the moonlight and the fire. Your eyes trailed down his jawline and his throat and against your best wishes you blushed a little. This was insane, it was only Jeremiah.
“Me neither, but when you really like someone, you sometimes do really dumb shit, right?”
And for a second time today you looked him directly in the eyes and you suddenly felt very aware of the fact that you haven’t slept through a full night in a week.
A figure moved closer and you broke eye contact. It was Conrad. And fuck when did the two of them become hot?
Jeremiah tightened his arm around you but when Conrad came closer he happily said, “Look who I found getting a free beer!”
Conrad, whose eyes haven’t left you since he saw you nodded at you, “Y/N. I didn’t know you were gonna be here today.”
You were still kind of distracted by his height, his hair and his eyes, just a shade darker than Jeremiah’s.
“Belly kind of sprung it on me, but it’s nice to see you too.”, you said with a smile.
He just shook his head and smiled a little. When he held out his arms you left Jeremiah’s side and hugged him. His hands felt larger than before.
“I’m glad you are here,” he said against your hair, and you answered, “Yeah, me too.”
Behind you his brother cleared his throat, “A very touching moment, but I’m pretty sure that someone just said cops so we should really get out of here.”
You let go of Conrad immediately and the three of you ran your way up the beach while you tried to find Belly in the crowd. When you saw her and the other guy hand in hand you smiled to yourself.
At Jeremiah’s car the five of you met up and when Jeremiah pushed a still slightly uncoordinated Conrad into the car you got into the other side of the back of the car. When the car suddenly stopped and you realised that you were still missing Steven you got out as well, and when you looked back to the car you saw that Conrad was reaching out to Belly. Something constricted in your heart but you weren’t sure if it was jealousy, pity or understanding.
When there was a knock on the window and the cop asked you, “Have you kids been drinking?” you knew you were fucked.
~*~
Laurel’s lecture was not as harsh as you expected, but as you stood in the doorframe to the kitchen you realised that you didn’t really want to go home.
So, after she dismissed all of you hung back. You heard her and Conrad exchanging a few words when she turned to you, “I’m sure that you can sleep over in Belly’s room. I’m going to text your Mom in the morning.”
You couldn’t tell her that your Mom’s phone was currently in your possession, knowing that otherwise she would keep scrolling through old pictures, not sleeping, so you only nodded.
After making sure her door was closed upstairs you snuck out to the pool. There you sat, your head tilted back to look at the stars. It was a clear night.
Then, to your surprise, the door to the patio opened again. At first you were scared that it was Laurel but it was only Jeremiah. You breathed out. “You scared the shit out of me. I thought it was Laurel, ready to chop my head off now.”
“Sorry to disappoint you. I noticed you weren't behind Connie on the stairs so I came looking for you.”
Of course he did. It was Jeremiah.
“You could never disappoint me, you know that. Aren’t you tired?”
He sat down next to you. “Yeah, but never enough to not hang out with you.”
Warmth spreads through your body. Both of you enjoy the silence for a while.
“Last year I broke my arm while surfing”, he told you.
You hummed in response. “Did it hurt?”
“At first not so much, I was more focused on getting back to the land, but once my Mom asked if everything was okay I started crying really hard.”
“Last year I stopped playing the piano.”
“A few years ago I had a marshmallow eating contest with Connie and won.”
“Last summer my cousin taught me how to skate but I was miserable at it.”
You talked for what seemed like a few minutes and a few hours at the same time. Both of you had missed so much of the other’s life that it made your heart ache.
After a while you felt your eyes start to get heavy. Jeremiah nudged you with his shoulder and when he offered you his hand to get up you took it.
When you got into the house you realised that Belly was most likely still asleep. “I really don't want to wake her. Maybe I should just go home.”
He dragged you upstairs with your interlocked fingers. “You can crash in my bed, I don't mind.”
Too tired to refuse, you said yes.
He closed his door as quietly as possible and tossed you a green hoodie and some of his old basketball shorts.
“I’m just gonna,” he pointed at the wall, “turn around.”
You mumbled a thanks in response and started to up on the hoodie and take off your jeans. Here you were, in Jeremiah’s room, in his hoodie, taking off your pants while he stands not even five feet from you. This time you really blushed.
“I’m done now.”
“Do you want me to sleep on the floor?”, he asked, nodding towards the bed.
“Don’t be ridiculous, your bed is big enough for the two of you. Besides, we have shared a bed before, right?”
“Right. I wanted to ask anyway.”
You ruffled his hair and deliberately did not notice that it was really soft. “Thanks.”
With your phone secure on the nightstand you flopped down to his bed, opening your eyes when he didn’t immediately follow you. He just stood there, on his side of the bed, looking at you, with something indescribable in his eyes.
Then he broke away and laid next to you.
Trying not to think about how everything smelled warm and just like him, you fell asleep, calm and comfortable.
~*~
When you woke up in the morning you were huddling closer to the warmth. Sleepily blinking you eyes open you noticed that this wasn’t your bed. Your sheets weren’t blue. Then the events from yesterday came back to you and you opened your eyes completely.
You were cuddling with Jeremiah. His arms were around your waist, your head slightly tucked under his chin. It seems that in your sleep you did the same, your arms in the same position as his, your legs tangled. Immediately you wanted to get up and leave, but you were still so tired that you couldn’t bring yourself to. So instead you cuddled a little closer, enjoying this moment for as long as you could and closed your eyes again.
The next time you opened your eyes you were alone and you ignored your disappointment.
----
And that's it!! I hope you all enjoyed it! I will reveal the endgame after the next chapter and add content warnings as soon as I figure out how to do a masterlist.
I'm sorry that this is a week late but my depression kinda took a turn for the worse over the last few weeks so. yeah. fun.
Stay tuned for the next part coming at the end of the week. [if you want a sneak peek you can send me an ask and maybe I will share something ;) ]

Outlast: Chapter One (Sam Giddings x Reader)
Tumblr media
Series Masterlist
Word Count: 2.1K
Now
Sam’s Girlfriend
Dependable ● Tenacious ● Resolute
Tumblr media
21:02 ; Ten hours until dawn
“Well hello friends and fans…alright let’s do that again…” Josh’s voice rings out from Sam's phone through the shared earbuds. She adjusts the angle of her phone so you can see her screen more clearly and she leans over to rest her head on your shoulder.
“He sounds so different…I haven’t talked to him in months,” Sam says. She tilts her head to look up at you. “What about you? Didn’t you try to call him a couple of days ago?”
“Yeah,” you answer, “last week. It was a quick conversation, he didn’t say much. I can’t tell what’s going through his head.” Josh was one of your closest friends and you had been trying to get in contact with him for awhile now. When you, Josh, and Chris had finally woken up from your drunken stupors and found out about Hannah and Beth’s disappearances, Josh was absolutely crushed. He had completely ghosted you all for the first couple of months, and the last you heard only yourself, Sam, and Chris had any sort of contact with him since the incident.
“Hopefully this is just his way of coping,” Sam replies, “I’m just looking forward to seeing him again.” You nod in agreement and begin to play with her fingers that are grasped around your hand.
When Josh had suddenly sent you all an invitation to go back to Blackwood Pines a year after the twins’ disappearance, it was safe to say that Sam and yourself were a bit hesitant. You were worried about Josh and how closed off he had been, and this sudden change in attitude didn’t help to ease your concerns. However, Sam didn’t want to disappoint him so nevertheless you agreed to go along with her. You of course wouldn’t let her go by herself,  having to stay alone in your shared apartment for a weekend. Your stomach churned just at the thought of being alone, not knowing if Sam was safe.
You weren’t going to let Sam know about the couple of flasks that you had snuck into your bags when you packed for the trip. You used to be a fairly heavy drinker, taking the opportunity to get drunk whenever it arose. No one knew why you drank so much, not even Sam. You were never really intending to give it up, but after failing to be there for your friends last year when they were in need, you tried to cut back as much as you could. It was difficult to quit, and you had a feeling that you might need some when you saw your friends again.
“...And make this one a trip we will never forget, alright? Yes!”
When Josh’s video ended, Sam closed out of it and played some music for the rest of the bus ride to your destination. The silence between you was comfortable. The two of you never really needed to talk to keep each other company. Just being in each other’s presence was a nice reassurance to have.
You squeezed her hand, a gesture you always did to show your affection in a subtle way, and Sam squeezed back. You relax in your seat and bask in the little comfort the two of you have alone together before you have to brace yourself for the reunions to come.
Tumblr media
Blackwood Pines was just as desolate as you last remembered.
The view of the snowy peaks and trees that shimmered under the moon’s glow in the distance was gorgeous as usual, but the dark woods and the howling of the wind made the environment all the more ominous.
The snow was soft as it crunched beneath your feet, facilitating your path to the gate. The air was frigid and you rubbed your hands together in an attempt to keep warm. As you approached the entrance gate, a note taped onto it caught your attention. You pulled it off to inspect it. It was from Chris, notifying you that the gate was busted. There wasn’t anywhere else to get in leaving the two of you no choice but to climb over.
“Ugh, he couldn’t have at least warned us?” Sam grumbled.
“No service out here, babe. Don’t worry, I’ll give you a boost,” you reply teasingly.
You put the note back where it was and bend down to pick up your girlfriend who was considerably shorter than you. You grip her waist gently as she gives you a coy smile.
“Slow down there, Tex. No copping any feels until we get nice and toasty, preferable indoors.”
You let out an exaggerated gasp. “Well excuse you, missy! I try to be nice and look where that gets me.” She chuckles as you adjust your grip even tighter. “Up you go.”
Once Sam’s over, you pull yourself up and around, making a few quick jumps to save yourself some extra seconds.
“This place is a lot creepier then I remember,” Sam observes as you wipe some flecks of snow off your jeans.
“No kidding,” you reply as you get a good look around. “Well let’s not dwell on it too much,” you add, “Come on. Chris is probably waiting for us at the ski lift.” You give your girlfriend a light pat on the butt and hold her close to you as you trek through the woods.
“You ass!” She jumps from the sudden contact. “I swear, you better not be doing this when the others are around, I will literally murder you.”
You groan. “God, don’t mention that. I don’t know how I’m going to react seeing all of them again. I haven’t talked to most of them since last year.”
Sam kicked a large pile of snow away from you two as you continued on. “I actually forgot to tell you. Mike called the other day. He wanted to speak to you.”
You almost tripped over your boots at Sam’s comment. “Are you serious?”
You and Mike dropped all contact the day after Hannah and Beth’s disappearances. In fact, you didn’t keep in contact with most of your friends, only getting the most important updates through Sam. When you sobered up, everyone had initially refused to tell you what happened that led to the scrambled chaos and the lack of two of your friends. When the others couldn’t prevent Sam from caving in, finding out Mike’s part in the whole “prank” was really what sent you over the edge.
The bruise on his cheek had lasted a while, based on what Sam had told you.
Mike had been your best friend since you two were little, the person you were closest to right after Sam. You never would’ve imagined he would use Hannah’s fleeting feelings for him to utterly humiliate her, and inadvertently causing both her and Beth’s disappearance. He tried to apologize to you for it, but nothing he could possibly say would make you forget what the end result of his mistake had been.
Mike was a cocky guy and he screwed up often in his actions, but never to this extent. This was something you couldn’t forgive him for. You simply refused to.
“As serious as I can be. He wouldn’t tell me what he was going to say. Just that he wanted to speak with you.”
“And why didn’t you tell me about this then?” You raised an eyebrow at your girlfriend.
“Oh come on.” She rolled her eyes. “You know how you would’ve reacted when I brought him up. I already knew you were going to reject it and then get all pissy.”
Sam was right about that. Just hearing Mike’s name puts you in a sour mood.
Sam was there for you after that whole fight. You were drinking heavily at the time, wishing to forget the pain and guilt of all that had conspired that night. You felt bad that she had to take care of you, but Sam dealt with grief in her own way, and taking care of you made her feel better, too.
“I love you. You know me too well.”
“I love you too, Tex.”
The two of you finally make it to the cable car station, but there’s no sign of Chris anywhere.
“Chris? Are you here?” Sam calls out. You walk around and see his backpack lying on the bench, gesturing to Sam. Suddenly, his phone starts buzzing and Sam picks it up.
“Check it out.” Sam nudges you and points to it, snatching the phone and turning the screen to face you. “It’s from Ashley.”
“Ooh, does our boy finally have some game?” You joke.
“Hey nosey.” The two of you gasp as Chris plucks his phone right out of Sam’s hands and looks at you both accusingly. “I can take it from here.”
“Sorry Chris,” you say apologetically and hug him from behind. You swing him and lift him off the ground as he swats you away, “we just want to know how much longer we have to force the two of you together for the two of you to become official.”
“Okay well, I found something kinda amazing.” Chris leads the two of you to an area a few feet away from the back of the cable car station, which you quickly realize is a small shooting range. Before you head over, you stop to look at a wanted poster that was taped on the side of the building. Milgram, Victor, it read. “Check it out guys,” you point the poster out to your friends.
“Huh. I’m surprised we haven’t noticed this before now. You going to give it a go, Tex?”
“Dude! I’m right here. And I literally found it. I should be the one showing off here.”
“You’re just going to embarrass yourself in front of  good ol’ Tex, gun connoisseur.”
You laugh. “You’re so sexy when you use big words.”
“Hey, hey! No flirting allowed when I am gracing you with my presence,” Chris complains. He takes the rifle before you can grab it and aims at the first sandbag with a painted target. After he misses the first two shots, you snatch the gun from him.
“Let me show you what a real professional looks like.” You point the gun and shoot first at the two targets Chris missed and then at two glass bottles that were farther away.
Sam whistles at you. “Nice shootin’ Tex,” she says in a mock southern accent. “Always here to please, ma’am.” You tip an imaginary cowboy hat in her direction and kiss the back of her hand.
You can hear Chris gagging behind you. “Okay, enough you two!” He snatches the rifle from your grip and places it back. “Come on. Let’s head back to the station.” As he pulls ahead you and Sam giggle amongst yourselves and follow.
Chris addresses the elephant in the room as you approach the station. “Man it is…definitely weird coming back up here after a whole year,” he says.
“Yeah, I swear the moment we got here it all just came flooding back.” You squeeze Sam’s hand to comfort her.
“If it’s like this for us, I can’t imagine how it feels for Josh.” The three of you fall silent for a bit after that until Sam speaks up.
“We’ll be there to support him if he needs it. He probably won't ask for help though, you know how he is.”
You all enter the cable car when it finally arrives, Chris electing to sit across from you and your girlfriend.
“Oh! Have I ever told you how Josh and I met?”
As Chris tells his story, you think back to the very first time you met Sam. It was your very first party of your high school career, and of course you and Mike had to go and get piss ass drunk to celebrate. Mike didn’t know at the time, but that wasn’t your first time drinking, and that heavily for the matter. When you couldn’t manage yourself anymore, he had spotted a mutual friend who was sober and asked if she could help you–that girl being Sam. Even while you were intoxicated, you knew that Sam was the prettiest girl you had ever seen. With Mike’s help she got you settled into a bedroom and stayed with you as you drunkenly flirted with her. Whenever you bring it up to her she always mentions how she was “totally not interested” but you distinctly remember how gorgeous she looked when her cheeks flared with a blush.
Despite your less-than-amicable relationship with Mike right now, you had to credit him with getting you and Sam together. If he had never wanted to start the school year off at a party and if you hadn’t drank yourself into yet another stupor, you and Sam may have never been a couple.
After your thought, Chris’s voice comes back into focus.
“Boom. Butterfly effect.”

What was the last bad thing that happened to your phone? Not really bad per se, but getting a notice in the middle of filming something that I had no storage left. I'm a hoarder through and through, so even though I have files backed up and even have Google Drives to store my photos in, I like keeping most things on my phone and I'm very familiar with running out of space haha.
What are your plans for tomorrow? We have an all-day team building thing. The company even booked a hotel for us overnight, so I'm here in my room right now while taking this.
Have you ever been with someone while they were throwing up? I honestly can't remember if that's happened. I'm usually the one they accompany lol...
What kind of outfit are you wearing right now? Sweatshirt + sweatpants. I'm savoring this moment now because I'm in a hotel and the aircon is freezing and this will never ever happen anywhere else this time of the year lmao.
Would you go out in public right this moment? I am technically in public right now.
Who was the last person you talked to on instant messenger? My sister. I was asking for photos of the dogs earlier because I was missing them.
Have you ever done something illegal with a family member? What about with your best friend? Hmm. Probably.
Would you rather get high or get drunk? Drunk.
Would you rather get pregnant at too young an age or never be able to reproduce? I don't want kids, so.
What was the last thing you cooked? Can it be the last thing I reheated instead because I don't cook? Hahaha. Spaghetti from Jollibee.
What were you doing 45 min ago? Playing Rhythm Hive.
What will you be doing in 20 min? Changing into my sleeping clothes for tonight.
What did you do yesterday? Worked, played my game, and for like three straight hours I watched videos from this local vlogger that I really really like. I actually already started watching his stuff months ago, but then he disappeared from my algorithm never to come back. I suddenly remembered him yesterday so I looked him up and saw that he had been posting new videos the whole time, so last night was dedicated to catching up.
Did you get a full 8 hours of sleep last night? Nah. Never on weekdays as I do revenge bedtime procrastination.
Have you ever gotten alcohol poisoning? I would never drink that much in one go to be at risk of alcohol poisoning.
Are you in a good mood right now? I'm feeling pretty damn great lmao. I'm in a hotel, I'm taking surveys, I have a plate of macarons beside me, I don't need to worry about work tomorrow since we'll be team building-ing...it's all lovely.
What’s the hardest thing you have done all week? Get through a meeting with a difficult client. He's so negative, never once seemed grateful, gave very strong know-it-all vibes, even his own teammates were on edge around him...I never thought a meeting could be so soul-sucking until that happened, and I honestly wish the deal would fall through or that the event we are planning for them gets cancelled. Not worth it.
How did you feel when you woke up today? LOLfuckit's9:30andIoversleptwhydidIoversleep
Do you want to see someone at this very moment? No.
Think of the person who has hurt you the most in the past year, who is it? My mom.
Do you think two people can last forever? Sure.
Do you find it in your heart to forgive? No.
Last person you talked to on the phone for longer than 5 min? Idk, that doesn't really happen a lot. Maybe with my dad? it's always more a call between him and my mom, though. We kids just chime in from time to time to greet him and such.
Are you a morning person or night person? Night.
Did you go out or stay in last night? It was a Tuesday evening, you best believe I stayed in haha.
Who was the last person in your bedroom? My sister, if I remember right.
Are you afraid to tell your true feelings? Doesn't it always depend on the situation? I'd feel more hesitant if I'm not around people I'm super close with.
Can you honestly say you’re okay right now? Sure.
How has this past week been for you? Nothing out of the ordinary.
Do you currently have a hickey? No.
Did you ever lose a best friend? Yes, I have.
How many piercings do you have? Just two, but I never have anything on them anymore.
Do you bump into someone’s arm if you want to hold their hand? No...
Are you listening to music, if so, what song? Continued from last night. Nope.
Favorite part of summer? My birthday.
Where was your default picture taken? A museum in Makati.
What is your middle name? Eh...
What color underwear are you wearing? Beige.
What color shirt are you wearing? Orange.
Ever had a near death experience? Not really.
Have you ever kissed in the rain? I don't know. Probably?
What is your natural hair color? Black.
Could you handle living with the last boy you texted? No, I barely know them.
What are you excited for? Seeing my dad again, traveling to Vietnam, and getting the notification for Jin's first live back.
Have you been to the beach this year? Yes, twice – both related to work but it's fine haha. The first time was at a TVC shoot that needed to be set at the beach; The second was our team bonding day where Leah invited us all to her beachside house.
What makes you happy? My dogs, day offs, and BTS.
Anything happen to you within the past month that made you really happy? Sure. My birthday happened and my birthday is always one of my favorite days of the year; that's one.
Could you go the rest of your life without smoking weed? Yes.
Held hands with anyone in the past month? I don't think I have. I've linked arms with my grandma since she needs help walking now, but we haven't held hands.
Would you put your life on the line for anyone? Yes.
When’s the last time you did something you knew was wrong? Three seconds ago, lol.
Do you think that someone is thinking about you right now? Doubt it.
Are there any bruises/cuts on your body? No but there is this very uncomfortable knot(?) on the right side of the back of my neck right now that is preventing me from bending my head to the right.
How late did you stay up last night? 2 AM, as usual.
Do you want someone to call you right now? Not really.
Are you a loud person? With the right people, I can be.
Are you a shy person? For the most part.
Does it take a lot to make you cry? No. I was crying uncontrollably the other night over BTS videos.
If your parents didn’t like the person you were dating, would you lose them? Depends on the person, I'm guessing. With my last ex, I imagine I would have fought for it. Hard to imagine with anyone else since I've never dated since then.
How’s your heart lately? Steadily working its way towards peace.
How was Saturday night? Pretty uneventful. I dyed my hair and stayed in.
Will you be in a relationship in 4 months? No.
Are you tan? Yes.
Do you think you can last in a relationship for 3 months? I did. Nearly 20 times that length.
Think a lot before you fall asleep? Sometimes.

Their gaze lingers on the pond as they sit alone by the park pond , rubbing their shoulder for ease . A few weeks of being in Los Angeles , ⅋ they still worry over how their family will treat them when they visit for the holiday . With their severe injury ⅋ the lack of Warlock's presence , as expected otherwise by their parents , Micah knows that they will receive some concern from their family ⅋ they don't think they can bear any more of it at their current position . A shaky sigh leaves Micah , their head lowered . Please stay with me . ❝ Mikey Way ? ❞
Micah sees Mike staring back at them on the water surface   ─    A deep breath is taken before Micah glances over to see a teen present before them . ❝ Angelstar , ❞ they whisper , amazed to see how much @hopeborn have grown since they last saw her in person seven months ago . Photos ⅋ videos , they can never carry the same life as seeing another in the same space . ❝ I ─ ❞ Their back suddenly meets the surface from Evangel tackle hugging them .   A choked laughter leaves their muscles aching ,  yet ,  how they still shine more for their sister .
❝ I missed you so much , Micah , ❞ Evangel whispers into the crook of their neck , her arms tight around them . It hurts more to breathe in this position , but catching the crack in her voice, Micah tries to ignore the worsening soreness ⅋ embraces Evangel back , smiling against her hair . They tear up , also , their lips quivering from the gradual rise of their emotions . Their home is close to heir childhood house where their parents ⅋ Evangel live , so they can't be stunned they would meet Evangel somewhere around soon , but it is still a pleasant surprise to think of the timing . ❝ I missed you just as much dearly ⅋ more , ❞ they softly return , headbutting her . Their heart swells at the giggle , real , all real .
❝ Mom ⅋ Dad told me you’ll be coming here for Christmas , ❞ Evangel sits by their side , leaning against them , ❝ But you didn’t say when . Do they know that you’re here ? ❞ Micah rubs the nape of their neck at the inquiry . ❝ Ah , not yet , Angel , ❞ they reply with quiet honesty , feeling guilty once more that they haven't , ❝ I’ve been going through a lot lately , so I wanted some time alone to adjust here ⅋ compose myself first , y'know ? ❞ Evangel analyzes at them , processing , then nods in understanding . ❝ I’m sorry that you’re struggling so much still , ❞ she sympathizes , ❝ Are you sure you’ll be okay enough to come home ? ❞
Micah’s gaze softens at the word , home . ❝ Most positive , but I haven’t got to be with you guys for . . . seven months . ❞ Too long since they could be with the Everlove family . Micah misses them all so painfully much . ❝ I am here mainly for work business , but I would love to at least take the opportunity to spend some time with you guys . ❞ The Break Beyond Heads doesn’t know that , though . . . Surely , Bluebreak ⅋ Angelparadox would in the end while they have stronger Awareness , but Micah does not intend to have their personal plans be taken down from them .
Micah wants to be with their family again . Tears over their cheeks , they quickly glance away from Evangel ⅋ wipe their cheeks . Warmth embraces them whole , reminding them Evangel is here with them , loving them still . They weakly smile ⅋ rest their arm over her shoulder . ❝ How you've been ? ❞ they question , ❝ I deeply apologize that I couldn’t make it to your graduation , but I do wish to remind you that I am so beyond proud of you for getting through high school . ❞ They vaguely remember their time at that period . Now , they can only remember the freezing ─ the burning ─
❝ Thank you so much , Micah , ❞ Evangel offers them a gentle squeeze of hand , though , they can't feel it . ❝ Work takes a lot of time ⅋ energy , I understand. I still appreciate you telling me this a whole lot . ❞ Micah wasn't able to come to her graduation when it happened at the time when they were in a severe physical and emotional state after the massacre event at the Break Beyond Festival . The lie was that they were struck with illness from work , yet had friends in D.C. who could look after them . The guilt of not being there to see their youngest ⅋ closest sibling reach to an important milestone will always haunt them .
❝ I've been doing the most I can do , really . The first semester is very overwhelming , but I'm sure it gets better over time . I still can't believe I'll be eighteen in a few more weeks . ❞ Micah's head perks up as their body straightens , having to forget that her birthday is approaching so soon . ❝ Ye- yeah , ❞ they say more quietly , unable to believe she is going to be an adult ─ a flash of Evangel as a child flickers ─ they see Mike again ─ ❝ It is overwhelming to be at this stage , but I promise your future will be clearer to you over time . You're a brilliant star , so I have no doubt that you'll have everything beautiful waiting ahead of you . ❞
Evangel softly laughs at the genuine support , glancing down , rubbing her eyes . Micah pulls Evangel closer to them . They know she will have a future that is most kind to her . ❝ Did Mom ⅋ Dad tell you any birthday plans ? ❞ Micah decides to change the topic for Evangel's comfort . They will take her to an amusement park . A shake of head is given . ❝ Must be a big secret , ❞ she assumes . Micah tilts their head ⅋ sees the sense that their parents would make the plans a secret . They try to remember their eighteenth birthday . They see the present still . ❝ It'll be one of the best ones , ❞ Micah cheerfully adds with a huge grins , excited for their sibling . Evangel matches their expression .
❝ Do you have one for me ? ❞ she asks them , innocently tilting her head . Micah places a finger on their lips as they pretend to think . ❝ I do , but it's a secret as well , ❞ they reply with a hum , earning a playful roll of eyes . Before Evangel can say anything in response , Micah tickles her , laughing at the shriek . ❝ Here it is noowww ! Eighteen seconds of tickling ! ❞ Evangel tries to stand ⅋ run , yet , Micah manages to grip her arm tight enough to keep another still . While having only one functional arm , they then use their legs to as a weight against Evangel to hold her still . Their hand reaches to tickle her side once more , laughing louder & longer with Evangel . It hurts so much being in this position , yet , within this soft moment now , Micah feels more than alive .

THANK YOU SO MUCH for that very informative post about Namor's biracial native roots. After reading more and more I can only say Ryan Coogler is a damn GENIUS. Casting someone as talented as Tenoch, having a mesoamerican background instead of Atlantis, AND using colonialism (if the leaks/spoilers are true) as a parallel to the white men that invaded Atlantis and killed Atlanteans in Namor's earlier comics is such a smart move. I realized that both versions, as far as we know, mirror each other in that aspect. AND it truly sets Namor apart from DCEU's Aquaman, which is interesting since Momoa is not even a white guy either (but there wasn't backlash with him, was there? I don't remember). Man, they truly made such a rich culture with Talokan that I can't even believe the assholes saying they ruined Namor when in fact this adaptation couldn't be more perfect. As a Latin American, and as a new fan of comics!Namor and MCU!Namor, I love and support this.
You're welcome! I'm glad my meta was helpful. I agree, the direction Coogler has gone with is an amazing idea and I'm very excited to see the movie! I'm very glad Coogler is handling Namor because you can't have Namor without his roots, and a lot of that is very political, dealing with outsiders/invasion/the devastation of their homeland and people. Which is why all these people online crying #namormynamor are very annoying because Namor isn't some white guy in a speedo swimming around talking to fish. I really dislike when people erase the fact that Namor has always been a white passing biracial coded character, but I also understand no one does extensive reading into older comics and it's not mentioned throughout later comics so the only time it really annoys me is when people try to argue against it with the limited knowledge they have.
Iirc there were some people going "that's not aquaman!" but it's the same kinda people who argue against Namor now, but for the most part I never saw extreme dislike of Aquamomoa because, let's just be honest, Aquaman was always considered a "lame" character. He was the butt of so many jokes over the decades, so when they made him BADASS suddenly people were more on board with this. The weirdest thing is they literally changed Aquaman to be more like Namor. (I talk more about Aquaman and Namor here)
Aside from the fact Aquaman is DC's copycat of Namor and they took alot of stuff from Namor over the years, then they went and took even more for the movie version, giving him bullet proof skin (like Namor), the whole biracial aspect of Namor being non white, even the imagery is really close to his Savage Sub-Mariner run. Yet people were totally fine with a white character being played by a non white actor because it "made him better and cooler" but they want to hate Namor for being non-white and woke because Namor is dealing with not so pleasant issues when that's his literal origin.
I honestly don't care what other fans think, just a few months ago those people weren't even talking about Namor so alot of this is just people jumping on the hate bandwagon, and while I have my criticism of the mcu as a whole, I also think alot of these people are just hating to hate, they don't care about the character, they are just upset it's not being catered to their white male power fantasy self insert fanon. There is alot of bad fanon that surrounds Namor's character but the actual character is so layered and interesting and complex.
I'm so excited to learn about Talokan, and the inspiration from Mesoamerica it takes, I'm working on a master post for all this information so far but I have to mention that I love that the cast came up with a hand symbol that has meaning with their culture
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ¡Líik’ik Talokan! hand gesture is based on ones seen in many Mesoamerican codices. Here's my comparison between a detail from the Codex Nuttall and #Namor Thanks
I couldn't insert the video here but check out the cast talking about it! Talokan Rises! (¡Líik’ik Talokan! means Talokan Rises!)
Tumblr media
Also another detail; The conch shell Namor carries! Here & Here!
Tumblr media
I just so happy about everything they have done with Namor and his world and I'm excited that now we have two versions but ultimately I feel the same core of the character/his story is intact.
MCU!Namor & Comic!Namor are perfectly wonderful!

So, I just had a good cry. Good meaning a proper cry. I wanted to make an online blog or a journal, or whatever, and I remembered that I used to have a Tumblr. I came here to see if I could still log on, and I could because I've had the same email forever.
I logged in and I saw that I hadn't been here since 2013, and back in 2013 my son was a baby, my daughter was a year old, their mother and I were still together and things hadn't gone south yet. So I was scrolling through and there were all these photos of my kids as babies, their mom, me, and them altogether has a family, and at the same time I had these posts where I was like "I'm going to be a rockstar one day I'm going to make music and travel the world, etc etc etc..."
Okay, well, I saved the photos I wanted, not all of them, some memories were too painful. But I saved most of them, and then I started to delete everything. As I'm deleting everything I'm reading my posts as I go and suddenly I got very emotional.
I was deleting posts that were photos of my little family that I loved so much but I lost in the end...
Their mom and I didn't work out, she left, I couldn't support my kids as a single parent, so my mom took them, and then Covid happened and I got furloughed from my airline job, ended up in Florida, then ended up here in St Louis last year. (That's not to say I don't see my children, I see them as often as I can, every couple of months, and we talk on the phone and video call almost everyday, but still... )
Then on the other hand I'm reading and deleting these posts where I'm frantically telling the universe how I'm going to do this, this, and this, be a rockstar, write music, travel the world... -as I'm deleting posts to make room so I can document me writing music, collaborating with artists, and traveling to the UK from time to time to write music.
Like, I'm not very far down the path yet, but I'm so much further than I was a year ago, let alone 10.
That's why I got emotional.
I'm doing it. I'm doing the things that I always wanted to do, but at the same time I lost everything, and truthfully I would trade how far (what little) I've come now to go back and save everything. But I can't. So I have to keep going forward because if I do all of this right then I can get my family back, at least my kids, and we can all live under the same roof again and be happy.
I don't know, it was a whirlwind of sudden emotion. Not the way I wanted to start this but it happened and I wanted to write it down.

Cotton Tails and Borrowed Time: Chapter 5
Edited (and planned) with the help of my friend Bucky! Couldn’t do this without you!
A couple notes: And we're back! After this chapter expect slightly longer waits between them, but not quite as long as this wait. So this fic doesn't end up taking 3 months and 20 chapters to post we are trying to make these chapters a little bit longer!
Also, I would like to shout out blizthegoatboi, pyggy-baby, and mysteriesinmyminds for their art inspired by the fic! Thank you all so much, all links are directly within the appropriate usernames!
Check out the AO3 link and look at the chapter titles for a fun little Easter Egg, btw.
“So, what up, Monkey King?” MK asked once they were out of the door to Tang’s apartment’s line of sight. “You got a plan for how we hunt down the bros?”
“Sorta,” Sun Wukong said with a half a chuckle. His successor’s excitement and eagerness to help his friends and family (and he knew very well who the younger considered family) was something that the sage found endearing about him. It was part of the reason why he picked him in the first place, part of what made him a fit for the role of Monkie Kid. “What do you remember about that fight the other day?”
“Nothing all that exciting,” MK answered with a shrug. The two stopped at the bottom of the stairs, leaning against them as they talked. “Jin and Yin were following us around for a while. I think they thought we didn’t notice... but it was kinda obvious. They attacked us once we were closer to home and gave some kind of speech about how they were gonna ‘prove they could outsmart the Monkie Kid!’ And then they actually tried to fight me. Put up a decent fight for once.“
“What do you mean?” Sun Wukong asked with a raise of his brow, suddenly a little more intrigued.
“Most of their past schemes were basically a two-step plan they either didn’t think through or thought too much about,” MK said with a cringe, clearly remembering his past run-ins with the Metal Brothers. “It was weird though...”
“Weird how?” The Monkey King asked, interest piqued immediately at the confused tone of his successor.
“It was like they planned out the fight in advance,” MK muttered as he scratched the back of his head in thought. “That’s not really their thing, ya know? It was almost like—”
“They had help,” Sun Wukong said simultaneously with MK. “Makes sense, with everything that happened a few months ago. A lot of the demons in the area have relocated and formed new alliances. I know I saw the Bull family welcoming a few people from the Lantern City whose homes were damaged, and now there’s a lot more travel to their fortress on the regular from demons and humans alike who they’ve helped.”
“Really!?” MK shouted in surprise, laughing once he processed the information. “That explains why Red has been so tired during our video calls and game streams! He still doesn’t wanna look soft in front of us, he keeps saying he’s working on robots but I bet he and his dad have been cooking for everyone.”
Sun Wukong couldn’t help but smile at the thought. From what he had seen flying over the area on his cloud? MK’s guess was probably right on the money. His nose could always pick up the telltale smell of that spice the fire wielding demon liked to add to his cuisine.
Things had changed so much since the defeat of the Lady Bone Demon. Yet at the same time it was almost like they were back to the simpler times before the Lunar New Year. New friends, old foes, new allies. Sometimes old foes became new allies.
They hadn’t had the chance to visit Chang’e again, though it wasn’t exactly a secret that Pigsy and her had exchanged contact info to work on recipes together. Nezha visited from time to time now that his duty of guarding the map was no longer necessary. Sun Wukong still found it odd to see the Third Lotus Prince rolling around on roller skates, instead of his fire wheels. Nevertheless, the Great Sage was happy that Nezha was able to enjoy parts of modern life with MK, Mei, Red Son, and Bai He.
Speaking of Bai He...
He knew that wasn’t her actual name, but no one would tell him what it was! It was almost like a running joke to keep him out of the loop, making it so he only knew her nicknames instead of her actual name. Bai He and Nezha made up the “Lily and Lotus duo” next to the “Traffic Light Trio” of the others. She was always ready and willing to get the Great Sage tongue-tied with wordplay or make him fall into a joke he didn’t see coming.
To think that the Hostess of the Lady Bone Demon was such a joker... it made him happy. He was glad that they were able to save her and that he hadn’t had to do what he feared he might. She was a smart kid—young but incredibly bright—and creative to boot. She adored Sandy’s cats with all of her heart, loved helping Pigsy making noodles, listened to MK and Tang talk for hours, helped Mei and Red Son with their tech, was the key player in helping Nezha get used to things around the city, and played games with everyone. It turned out she was quite the tabletop roleplay enthusiast!
The more she hung out with MK’s friend group the more she blossomed. “Uh, Monkey King? Earth to Sun Wukong! HEY!”
“AH!” Sun Wukong yelped in surprise, blinking and finding his vision filled with two angry eyes and a whole lot of pink. “Pigsy! Hi! W-When did you—?”
“When you were lost in whatever thinking you were doing,” the chef answered as he straightened back up and walked down the rest of the few stairs he had stopped on. “So... what’s the plan? I assume you two are cooking one up already.”
The two powerful monkies looked at each other and then back at Pigsy with a simultaneous shrug.
“We’re still workshopping it,” MK said honestly. “We need to figure out where they are and, since they’re probably working with someone, we need to figure out who that is too. And then... figure out the rest of the plan?”
If the enthusiastic smile the young man gave Pigsy was reassuring in any way? The chef didn’t show it in the least.
“Please promise me you’re actually gonna come back after you leave tomorrow?”
“Aaaactually...” MK chuckled nervously, glancing at Sun Wukong for a split second. “I was thinking we should start now? I mean, the sooner we start the better for Tang right?”
“Makes sense to me!” Sun Wukong agreed. “The sooner we start on recon, the sooner we can come back and make an actual game plan.”
“Are you both sure you’re ready to head out?” Pigsy asked with a raise of his brow. “Shouldn’t you get some sleep or lunch first?”
Sun Wukong opened his mouth to protest, but he was beaten to the punch by his own stomach growling at him. “...Heh... I might have... been making myself something before MK picked me up.”
“Yeah, you’re not goin’ anywhere,” Pigsy said with a sigh and a shake of his head. “Let’s get you fed, at the very least. And set up a time limit, I don’t want either of you flyin’ around when you’re half awake!”
“Does that mean you’ll buy us coffee on the way back to the shop!?” MK asked in excitement.
“Only because Bai He asked me to pick her up some cheese tea, but Monkey King is—”
“Still banned from caffeine, I know. Geeze, you punch a hole in a wall one time...”
~
“And that’s the gist of it,” Pigsy said as he finished his recounting of what happened before he came back with dinner. “They flew off right before I started working the lunch rush so they’re probably still flying around as we speak.”
Tang couldn’t help but smile at this information. He knew that they would do anything to figure out what this was, of course they would, but the fact they wanted to do it immediately? That just... made him happy. To remember that everyone cared for him this much.
“You think they’re going to find the brothers in time?” Tang asked softly as he rolled the fruit back and forth in his palms. It felt odd, if he were to be honest, to not quite feel the strawberry under his fur. Like feeling it through mittens.
“Even if they don’t?” Pigsy said in return, grabbing a blueberry and popping it into his mouth. “You’ll still be you. We’ll figure out a way to make it work.”
The words made Tang pause.
Pigsy was right, when he thought about it. As long as they figured out what the curse was and made sure he wouldn’t turn into an actual rabbit after his demon transformation was done? It wouldn’t be impossible for him to get used to it all. Sure, the fur would be difficult to get used to, and his ears would take time to work around. His increased hearing would take a long time to adjust to. But... he was still him, human or rabbit demon. And besides! Maybe some of whatever new abilities he had could come in handy in day to day life. He knew the hearing would make it a lot easier to hear and corral any unruly students in his classes at the very least.
It was just... scary. Knowing he had no control or consent over the changes, that they weren’t even meant for him at all. The uncertainty of when they would stop, if they even would. And the reason...
If he was just turned immediately—poof and Bunny Him!—that would be one thing.
But why did he have to change when he thought of Pigsy? That was the worst part. Worse than even the pain of the transformations themselves. It felt like he couldn’t even be honest with himself in his own head anymore, lest he change without meaning to. He wished it was easier to be honest. To just come out and tell Pigsy how he felt. Heck, he’d met his parents! His parents liked him! Tang had nothing to worry about except the cold harsh dose of rejection he was certain he was in for. But then again..
When one denied their feelings for over a decade... could they really be surprised it was hard to admit them at all?
Tang popped the strawberry in his mouth while he thought, smiling a bit at the sweet tartness of it. It tasted... better than he expected. “These are good!” he said with a chuckle. “I was never that big on strawberries but if this change means I like them more now? I could totally live with that.”
“Heh, and here I thought I would never see the day you admit you disliked a food that wasn’t carrots,” Pigsy said with a soft chuckle and a smirk. Tang couldn’t help himself.
Just... the way he smiled. The relief he seemed to have on his face.
It just slipped out of him.
“Stop being cute like that.”
“You think I’m cute?” Pigsy asked in slow surprise, the smallest hint of an awkward smile forming on his face.
“N-NO!” Tang said without thinking, immediately regretting his knee jerk reaction and attempting to fix it. “I-I mean! You’re more... uh, h-handsome?”
A blush might have formed on the other’s face. Tang wouldn’t know. He was too distracted by the urge to sneeze that took over.
Then the sneeze, the feeling like he’d been slapped in the face, and then the sound of his glasses hitting the table.
The two stared at each other for a moment. Tang was lucky that he was nearsighted and thus still able to see Pigsy even without his glasses on. The chef stared as Tang reached up and touched his nose. His very much no longer human nose.
“Uh... Y-You... Uh...” Pigsy started slowly, gesturing to Tang’s face slowly.
“Oh, COME ON!” Tang yelled in frustration, holding his nose and squeezing it to make sure it was really a rabbit nose now. The pinch of pain confirmed it. “No, no, no, no, I wear glasses! Now how am I going to see? They were already barely staying on squashed onto my human nose! They’re definitely not going to stay on like this!”
“Tang...”
“Is every part of me going to change!?” Tang groaned out in frustration. “Is every part of me going to be different at the end of this? I can’t keep one thing? Are my eyes going to change? Do contacts work on rabbit eyes? What if my eyes get worse!?”
“Whoa, whoa, breathe Tang,” Pigsy said softly. He reached up, putting his hands on either side of his face and...
Tang froze.
It was... nice.
He had never had his face held like this by anyone before. And Pigsy’s hands were so warm, not too soft and just barely pressing against his fur.
He felt silly in that moment, for reacting as strongly as he did.
“Sorry...” Tang said softly, leaning into the touch without meaning to. “I’m...”
“Scared,” Pigsy finished for him. “I get it. But we can figure something out in the meantime. You got any of those hair clips Mei bought you for your birthday lyin’ around?”
~
“There,” Pigsy said with a soft chuckle. “Shake your head and see if they stay on.”
Tang frowned, slowly shaking his head from side to side to test out the solution. He could feel the hair clips pulling on his fur... but his glasses stayed mostly in place. Just to be sure, he decided to shake his head a little harder to test the limits of this solution.
Or he would have had he not immediately smacked himself in the face with his own ears and yelped in surprise. The sound of Pigsy’s laugh made him freeze before he could even react further, moving his ears out of the way to look at the other through his crooked glasses.
“We probably should have factored those in,” Pigsy chuckled. He reached up and righted Tang’s glasses again.
And then booped his nose.
Just. Reached up. Poked his nose with a finger. With the same kind of little “boop” Tang had heard Mei do before.
Pigsy was redder than Tang had ever seen him once he realized what he had just done.
“I’M SORRY, THAT WAS WEIRD!” Pigsy yelled out before he realized what he was doing, immediately grimacing and turning away as he groaned out. “I’m sorry, really, just... just forget I did that! I can’t believe I did that, so stupid, aaaaahhhhh—”
Pigsy continued to mutter to himself, embarrassed to a degree the scholar had rarely seen before. Tang was going to say it was okay, that he wasn’t bothered by it so much as he was shocked. It didn’t seem like something he would expect the chef to do! But then...
His ears picked up something just under Pigsy’s muttering. Maybe it was because he was getting used to his hearing. Maybe it was because somehow all of his neighbors were out or quiet at just the right moment. There were fewer cars on the road for him to hear through the walls.
Whatever the reason, he heard it all the same as clear as day.
"Shhh,” Tang said as he held up his hand for a moment. Without meaning to, he tilted his head, ears lifting softly as if on instinct to pick up the sound clearer.
“Uuuuuh Ta—”
“SHHHH!” Tang cut Pigsy off, tilting his head the other way. His eyes widened as he finally realized what the sound was. Smooth and rhythmic and relaxing to hear. “I... I think I can hear your... heartbeat?”
~
“OK, snack time is over!” MK announced as he shoved the last bite of the bun Pigsy had packed for them in his mouth. “TIME TO GO!”
“Hold on, bud,” Sun Wukong said as he wrapped his tail around MK and pulled him to stand next to him. “I have an idea.”
“Is this going to be a surprise lesson again? Right now?”
“Yes.”
“Seriously?” MK groaned in mild frustration, though the Monkey King was not in the least bothered by that. Not this time. “We need to get moving, now, I—”
“I think it’s about time you learn how to ride this thing properly,” Sun Wukong said with a smile as he moved aside and gestured to his cloud. “Can’t have you holding onto me forever, after all.”
MK looked between his mentor and his somersault cloud, mouth agape in shock. “Wait... Seriously?”
“Seriously! I’ll help you until you get the hang of it, then you’ll call the shots. It’ll be way faster than you guiding me around the city like we’ve been doing.”
“I take back my complaining. This is the third best day of my entire liiiiiiiiiife,” MK breathed, immediately falling face first onto the cloud and giggling as he sunk into it.
“What are the first two?”
“Day I met Mei and the day Pigsy taught me his noodle recipe.”
“Fair enough!” Sun Wukong said with a laugh as he helped his successor jump onto the cloud and find his balance. He joined him quickly, hands on his shoulders and tail wrapped protectively around his waist like a lifeline. Just in case. “Alright, make your movements purposeful and light, the cloud will listen to your movements. A small press with your front foot will make it go, but a huge one will make it zip fast enough to knock us off.”
“It’s kinda like riding a hoverboard!” MK laughed out as he wobbled slightly on the cloud. “A poofy, not completely flat hoverboard.”
“Never rode one of those myself so I wouldn’t know,” Sun Wukong said with a chuckle. “But if it is anything like this, the key to both is balance. Once you get that and you know how to convince it to listen to you, you’re good.”
“Wait, is your cloud sentient?”
“You know, it’s really unclear.”
The glance MK gave him was a mix of confused and concerned, but he listened intently as he was guided through the basics.
And then they were off. Soaring through the air, a little too fast at first at first but MK got the hang of it in no time. The yells of excitement as he somersaulted them through the sky made Sun Wukong almost forget why they were out and about flying.
Almost.
“Hey...” MK said almost so quietly that Sun Wukong could hardly hear him over the rushing wind around them. “Mr. Tang is going to be okay, right?”
There was a moment of quiet between them, the wind the only sound either could pick up as it rushed through their hair.
“I don’t know,” Sun Wukong said honestly. “But whatever happens, it would be without us doing our best to make sure he will be.”

• Found You (P.JS)
Part 2 coming soon
It hurts to remember everything from the very beginning.
Adjusting to the life that she wasn't used to, she tried her best to act neutral cause of the arena she got for making ties with an artist who's in an incredible platform.
But after a few months, she quickly got the hang of it, all the ups and downs of their relationship immediately fixed the cause of the power of their trust.
"Can we stay like this, for a moment?" After saying the same thing a few hours ago, being trapped in his arms and can't move a muscle.
"I forgot to say something to you" he hummed waiting for an answer, "My auntie from the province asked me to live there with her"
He slowly let go of her and faced him "Is there something wrong? Why are you suddenly saying that?"
"It's not like I'm staying there forever, my family members are so busy with their work, so I think I'm the only one who's available as of now" she holds his hand and kissed the back of it.
"I promise, I'll talk to you every day, she's in a very bad condition right now, something might happen to her as we speak" he sighed and held her tight in his comfort "I understand that, don't worry I won't stop you"
"Jay, even if I'm far away, you're not alone, I'll still support you, my dear, please... wait for me" she slowly teared up, she back away from him and left the room.
===
Before she left the city, they made a time capsule to remember each other, going to the place only they would know, a remembrance of their activity before her departing.
"[Name]! I've been quite busy lately, how are you doing? How's your auntie?" their first video call, a few weeks after she left, they couldn't talk that much cause of his tight schedule.
"Ah, I'm doing okay, and good news, my Auntie's recovering, the doctors said something triggered her nervous system but it wouldn't take too long for her to recover" she explained.
"Good to know she's getting better" she smiled and nodded "Yeah, I mean, she was one of the women who raised me from diapers to prom days"
The call lasted for five hours, Jay who secretly spoiled lyrics for his comeback to her and found the new song amusing.
And everything was just a voice of them laughing "Take care of yourself okay?" he chuckled "Yes ma'am"
That was a memory he remembered seven years ago.
He stared at the glass window, having thought about her a third time today, it's almost been a decade since he last saw her, and he decided to go to the hometown of his lover and check for himself.
===
"Oh, you mean [Name]? The last time I talked to her was a few years ago, but yeah, they moved out of this place two years ago" one of her neighbors answered his desperate question.
"Thank you so much for the information" now that he knew, he was confused why didn't she tell me she had to move out here? And why was she last seen three years ago?
He drove around the neighborhood and ask for random residents about the woman, and all of them answered the same thing 'we never knew what happened to her
He banged his head on the stirring wheel, still confused about her whereabouts, that is until one person came to his mind.
Riezza, her inseparable best friend. He tried to look for her location and ended up finding it at the end of the day.
"Your [Name]'s friend, right?" he looked up at her house and saw her head popping out in the window.
"yare yare daze"
She went outside her house and answered him directly "Don't ask me, I also can't contact her, that woman always does things on her own"
"Is that so, well sorry for distributing you, you might be busy"
As she watched his vehicle drove away from the second floor of her house, she took out a box of cleaning sponge and soap to disinfect the objects the man held in her home.
Her loud sigh exhaled while scrubbing the cleaning materials. That man's desperate, so, how long are you gonna keep hiding his child, [Name] Ackerman?
