Okay I’m here to suggest you read part 4 imagining Norm working late in the lab and wondering what the hell all that banging and scraping is coming from outside and just assuming it’s some animals getting in a scuffle because that’s what I did while writing.

That's What You Get When You Eat a Mandrake~ (Beel Butt L-Card Story: Ch.1) *React I*
Tumblr media
-the bby
WE ARE LIVING IN AVISOS LATELY HUH?? Sure we got a healthy dose of our Hades bois, but there's been a lot of content with Avisos popping up lately and I'm like huh...it seems the fave locations are Gehenna and Avisos as opposed to Tartaros and Hades. Anyway this is the first node of the Beel booty story (hooray everyone that got it!) I would technically say this isn't spoilers unless you were unable to get the card then it's technically spoilers but everyone's seen it I assume but just in casseeee
LETS GO another two-parter...this time because there's a new boo I get to ramble about. Get yourself a snackkyyy snack and let's go ( ˘▽˘)っ♨
Tumblr media
First we enter Dong-gyun that is at this gift store having his home-made butt shaped chocolates get wrapped professionally
Let me just say that Dong-gyun is a d o r a b l e. And I love him so much. For some reason he reminds me of Yoosung from MYMES and idk why when they clearly aren't the similar just the blonde hair lmao
Maybe it's the soft boi casual hoodie-wearing vibes I'm loving? Anyways
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Poor bby was kicked out of the store for being a bit overbearing lol that and it's busy with everyone celebrating their first valentines day in Avisos because MC is also there (they truly do party for any reason it's great) Because they're out here making out, doing shit in the streets like this is wild lol
But DonBear (my nickname for him) made the chocolates for MC :)))) he has like a huge one-sided crush on them and I think that's just the cutest thing.
I also want to add that he's not one of the 72 either, he's just a regular day-to-day lower-level devil and I love that we get to see that. I wanna know how life is for devils who just are "there" ya know?? Like Nina for instance (RIP ;.;)
Tumblr media
So he finds out where MC is at and he notices everyone and their mom (except for the 7 grandmothers, i wanna know more about that actually :o) are there with chocolates they have given MC. But he doesn't mind waiting in line.
Tumblr media
I only wanted to add this screenshot because I'm crying, Minhyeok forever in the friendzone trenches because "friendship chocolates?????" free this man please.
Tumblr media
Ahhh so our DonBear was able to to make it and he prepares to give his chocolates until....
Tumblr media
Oh
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First. Why
Is
He
So
HOT???
I can imagine how his jaw had to unhinge unhumanly to eat that pile of chocolate and I'd just be like o__o oh
Second...girl...he gonna give you back that chocolate alright if you want (yes this is a poop joke. no i am not into that i just find it funny mc really sat there and asked for it back like you're either gonna get vomit or poop which one?)
The funny part tho is Beel is casually like "I already ate it tho"
Yes bby we know that. I'd like for you to replace it because you prefer to be childish and eat things that don't belong to you to show your dominance or whatever okay <3
Tumblr media
See? See the fucking snark this one has?
>:P he's getting bitten
Tumblr media
Leave DonBear alone D: at least let us eat our butt shaped chocolates he spent time making from scratch (also look at his face I'll protect you omg)
Tumblr media
Beel.
Beel. Beel. You're going in time-out I swear. The naughty corner.
Tumblr media
Sigh....maybe you'll be forgiven if you let DonBear make another batch of chocolates for me
Tumblr media
AND this part? Where Beel fainted and is having some kind of episode???? I was like omfg it's whatever was in the chocolates isn't it? It's the damn mandrake stuff isn't it?
And our Avisos bois came to the rescue immediately because they thought it was some kind of attack. (it's really cool how they can sense stuff like this immediately)
So while everyone's trying to help Beel and figure out what's wrong with him and take him to the hospital and such (and dragging DonBear along because they suspect it's him that did it) we go into a flash back!!!
So Dong-hyung was hanging out and being the designated driver kinda friend (the one that stays sober and watches the others) but he doesn't really drink like that anyway so he doesn't mind babysitting.
Tumblr media
LMAO so these two characters waltz into the bar and DonBear is kinda side-eyeing them because I mean I'm crying why is MC a clown? xD it makes me think of those memes again dammit
Tumblr media
MC showing their ID at the bar 💀💀💀💀💀💀
anyways
Tumblr media
So what's funny is that MC is me because they're drunk asf slurring and saying some shit and Beel is just thinking this is cute and just letting it happen such a bad influence... xD
Tumblr media
ME coded.
Silly drunk clown bitch hours.
My ass would be laughing at everything and saying the floor is lavvvaaa Beel...the floor is lavvvaaaaaa carry meeeeee
xD
Tumblr media
So iirc MC ends up bumping into DonBear and he just knows how to handle the situation perfectly and this was after he realized that it was Beel and MC in disguise and not just two randos in the bar.
Tumblr media
Beel gestured for him to come outside with them and he's fanboying about the situation and I find that entirely cute. He's a sweetie and I want good things for him.
Tumblr media
DREAM ON DONG-HYUNG I BELIEVE IN YOUUUU????
even though we all pretty much know how this works though for the most part when it comes to who is the designated 72. Someone should draw him in the uniform though (throwing this idea out there)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOL so he flopped MC on DonBear and is just like so this kind of night arouses angels...so hold MC for me in case I have to fight or something. And I'm just like oh dear...the poor bby is kinda struggling to carry MC are they that heavy? Lol
Tumblr media
He's so determined. I love it
Tumblr media
So here, DonBear is asking a lot of questions and one of them is if Bael and Beel are twins, and Beel is like yeah Bael would not like it if I said yes so I'll say no even if we are.
Beel your roundabout answer is killing me lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He....he....he almost came from being petted on the nape of his neck?????? *screams*
He's perfect for dry humping, and anything of the sort that doesn't involve penetration because he's so sensitive I love him. I could hug him and rub his back and he'd love it. (granted this means tho that this is only for his favorite person or the person he's crushing on this sounds like he wouldn't react this way to a stranger)
Tumblr media
So Bael was getting onto Beel for MC being in this state and just going on and on and Beel is like "Well it's not like I could have just left MC there no way they're drunk :D" so gentlemanly like and Bael agrees that the devils in Avisos are gentleman (are they...? I would assume some aren't)
ANNDDD I've hit the limit my lovelies. (on screenshots allowed in said post) So we're gonna stop here until we get to the other post ^^ see you thereeeee

star trek update time. earlier tonight, my eyes were cursed with star trek generations, a very very bad movie. if you don't know the big spoiler for this movie (the character death), please stop reading here. or keep reading actually i'm not your mom. fuck this movie anyway.
with the tos movies, i tried to keep notes on notepad as i watched so as to better type up a "liveblog" later. i was a bit spotty at remembering to do that this time, but i have enough to put together a reasonable write-up. here's kind of how it went
cried multiple times during this movie. first time was when kirk showed up because i knew it was the last time we were ever gonna see him. got bonus aftershock tears when i saw scotty and chekov - i was under the impression it was JUST kirk. second time, i THINK, was when he showed up again, though i just misted up a little. big boo-hooing when he mentioned spock, naturally. MORE crying when he finally bit it, though it was mostly because i was angry!!! and finally, even though i promised myself i wouldn't cry over data, i did start sobbing when he was reunited with his cat. gave myself a crying headache.
it was difficult watching kirk be on the bridge and want to be captain and he's not captain. and then crisis strikes and oh yeah he is. and really, the captainly thing to do WAS to go down to the lower decks and do whatever the fuck. needs of the many. he saved that guy's life. that would have been a fine death.
it was a little ruined by chekov going "was there somebody in there?" like to me it struck me more as funny than anything
oh, spotting guinan in the tos era made me absolutely thrilled btw. i missed her so much in s7 it was UNREAL.
OH YEAH AND. sulu's daughter. wah. ik aos sulu is gay do we think tos sulu is gay too. either way i;m very happy for him
apparently one of the guys in this is from succession. i'm choosing to blame this whole debacle on him.
switching directly to a fucking holodeck scene KILLED me. i HATE the holodeck. at first i thought they were giving worf a retirement party to send him to ds9 but they were just doing all of that for fun. deanna's outfit was hot though. also, data shoving beverly WAS FUNNY tng writers just hate autistic people
i have mixed feelings about data and the emotions chip. i was surprised they never covered it in tng proper and i think it would have been handled better there...data having the chip WAS the reason soren got away, which makes it plot-important, but it felt like a b-plot to a normal tng episode and this is supposed to be a feature film. instead it was a tng two-parter with a budget and william shatner. it was fun watching data experience emotions (happiness, terror) and struggle to control them, but there ironically wasn't enough time to really get into it, except when picard gave him the tough love speech, which i think was uncalled for. why is he so against suicide when it's data when he was out here telling worf to kill himself over an empty barrel??
titty klingon sisters. i never remember their names or their faces but i ALWAYS recognize those boob windows. at first it was really annoying because it is pretty sexist but honestly i've become very endeared. it's absolutely devastating that this movie killed them too. they were everything to me 💔
hey, sorry, side bar, were they watching geordi bathe through his visor? freaks.
also, geordi in the bondage gear while he was kidnapped. ALSO, wasn't he growing new eyes in the tng s7 finale? whatever happened with that???
stellar cartography looks better than it did in tng but it brought back memories of picard running around on poor beverly. idk what he's so worried about continuing his family line for wesley crusher IS his affair baby
hey, also, the lighting??? the "distant sunlight" atmosphere when the lights are off vs the brightly lit interior of the show? truly, the upgraded lighting was probably my favorite part of the movie. it looked SO fucking good. i really felt like we were on a spaceship.
no, wait, ACTUALLY my favorite part was data getting to say "oh, shit!" that was really good. they got one bad word for this whole movie and used it in the perfect place
no, my favorite part was the spock mention.
did not like kirk referring to picard repeatedly as the captain of the enterprise. kirk's the real captain here, bitch. picard doesn't have what it takes to die for his ship. he doesn't love his ship the way kirk loved his.
i did like the nexus reference to the tmp wife. in the novel she was named lori but she didn't show up in tmp proper much less get a name so i'm ok with them calling her the wrong name, but i just know it's the same woman. less okay with kirk's nexus dream being all about some random woman we've never met. he's in love with the IDEA of a woman to come home to, sure, but it's just lazy writing. we don't have any reason to care about this girl. at least if it had been carol ruth marcus or something we'd have SOME basis to give a shit on. the nexus was the perfect place for spock and bones! i wish they and uhura and sulu had had cameos...
i also liked him warning picard to NEVER retire/accept promotion, bc retiring wound up being so traumatizing for him. this is not really consistent but i'm making it that way in my mind palace.
also, kirk being a horse girl is FAKE. they just made him be into horses bc picard is into horses. gross. he was really good at chopping wood though lol
the scene with the kids evacuating the spaceship...WHY WOULD YOU HAVE CHILDREN ON THIS SHIP. i also worried about the pets the entire time, which is part of why i lost it when data found spot :(
it's sad that a piece of guinan was left behind in the nexus...does that happen to everyone? is a piece of kirk in there too? i really wanted to write a fix-it for this someday but they have given me so little to work with that it's hard to imagine a fixit that isn't just 80% "yeah we're ignoring that" which isn't very satisfying.
the crash was SO long. also, why was data holding troi? she's got 2 different boyfriends who could be doing that for her
since i was going into this knowing kirk died, i expected that he was gonna die because the nexus swallowed him or something. i was expecting something grand. instead it was like, tos scene, an hour and a half of very mid tng content, and then half an hour of rushed and poorly paced kirk and picard scenes. typical tng episode that it didn't get to the point until it was almost over, but jesus. i can't believe they got shatner for their movie and then barely had him in it. like, kirk at the end was a total surprise narratively (obviously everyone watching it knows bc of the opening at LEAST that he'll be back, but imagine if this guy had been some rando - it would have been so unsatisfying and weird).
see, this is the thing. the nexus actually has the potential to be incredibly compelling. the way picard's scenes were shot were very very good, if one could ignore the clothes from 1790 and the horrific portrait of himself looking like he stepped out of les mis and also how creepy his kids were and WHY WASN'T HIS WIFE BEVERLY I HATE HIM. kirk's were rushed and messy (he likes horses? his dog? none of this connects us to the character we knew in tos...), and picard's involved, well, picard. but the CONCEPT absolutely fucks, and i did love the creep factor in spite of it all. this whole movie had huge potential and instead it's a steaming pile of shit. i could have learned to live with a good kirk death but living with a bad one is gonna kill me. at least he had good last words. "oh, my" right before he dies kinda fucks tbh.
my final note is that i think sir patrick stewart got sunburnt filming some of those scenes near the end. there were a few shots where he looked quite pink. give the man some sunscreen. oh yeah also why did some people randomly wear the ds9 uniforms...what on earth
anyway, terrible movie, 0/10 stars, i'm never gonna recover. tng never disappoints in disappointing me.
NEXT TIME: back to ds9, thank god. we're doing "meridan" and "defiant."

Okay, well, what would you prefer then? The Dustmen?
Sleep No More! this season's dedicated spooky episode. I feel like I ought to have vibed more with this one than I did and I dunno why it didn't work with me that well. maybe I powered through s9 too quickly (EDIT: I have now analysed why it didn't work so well for me, ey!)
also: is this the first out trans actor we've had on this show? definitely some things to say about that
sexism rank objectification (female character is ogled/harassed/turned into a sex joke by the doctor and/or a lead we’re supposed to root for and/or the camera): 10/10
sexism rank plot-point (lead female character is only there to serve plot, not to have her emotional interiority explored, or given agency to her emotional interiority): 4/10
interesting complex or pointlessly complex (does the complexity serve the narrative or does it just serve to be confusing as a stand-in for smart, this includes visually): 6/10
furthers character and/or lore and/or plot development (broader question that ties into the previous ones, at least two of these, ideally three should be fulfilled): 3/10
companion matters (the companion doesn’t always have to be there, but if the companion is there, can they function without the doctor– and overall per season how often is the companion the focus or POV of the story): 3/10
the doctor is more than just “godlike” (examines the doctor’s flaws and limitations, doesn’t solve a plot by having it revolve entirely around the doctor’s existence): 9/10
doesn’t look down on previous doctor who (by erasing or mocking its importance, by redoing and “bettering” previous beloved plotpoints or characters, etc.): 6/10
isn’t trying to insert hamfisted sexiness (m*ffat famously talked a lot about how dw should be sexier multiple times, he sucks at writing it): 10/10
internal world has consistency (characters have backgrounds, feel rooted in a place with other people, generally feel like they have Lives): 6/10
Politics (how conservative is the story): 4/10
FULL RATING: 61/100 (if I can count….)
ok ok let's get into it!
OBJECTIFICATION: see, cured!
PLOT-POINT: I mean, it's a standalone episode that doesn't do much beyond the episode itself, so it doesn't really need to give Clara much development. still, I think in a season in which Clara doesn't have many emotional beats, considering what's coming up in the very next episode... I'd have liked something perhaps
COMPLEXITY: it's complexity lies in its structure and I am nooot convinced by it. there's nothing wrong as such with found footage, but it feels gimmicky very fast, and I think there should have been more done with the fact that the dust was "watching" them
the fact that it's basically the beats of a low-budget horror should have meant I vibed with it more, but I think because in the end a lot of it is just running from place to place while going "whaat is even happening here" makes it feel a bit thin
also the ending is probably an "either you like it or you don't" type ending, so I have nothing against it as such. I think the single-episode characters were thinner than a lot of the other ones we've seen throughout the years, which is kind of a shame, because there is some interesting Stuff to dig into with the wider world they inhabit (which we'll get to) but these are all -- with the exception of Nagata I think -- relatively threadbare. this might also be a feeling arising from the other episodes being two-parters, so we got more time with the "under the lake" gang idk. but maybe actually that's why I'm judging it a bit harsher -- this is a concept I've seen before a few times, done better
CHARACTERS/LORE/PLOT: nothing much here either, although there is a delightful little exchange between Clara and the Doctor right at the beginning that goes like this --
CLARA: Looks like a Japanese restaurant. Oh! Have you brought me to a space restaurant? DOCTOR: People never do that, you know? CLARA: Do what? DOCTOR: They never put the word space in front of something just because everything's all sort of hi-tech and future-y. It's never space restaurant or space champagne or space, you know, hat. It's just restaurant, champagne or hat. Even if this was a restaurant. CLARA: What about spacesuit? DOCTOR: Pedant.
I just think that gives me more on them as characters than often exists in their episodes together, which often feel like they go so fast and are so specific to Plot things, that I've often struggled to engage with their dynamic as ostensibly good friends. this was actually something I highlighted in "the girl who died" which was the way everything with them was constantly framed around danger and high stakes and how that takes me out of understanding what draws Clara to travelling, and this is a little counterpoint to that
COMPANIONS MATTER: ehhhh not really from my memory. she's there.
“GODLIKE” DOCTOR: the Doctor just fully runs around like a headless chicken in this one. no that's not fair, he solves most of the puzzle. crucially not the really important piece at the end though, but I'd assume that happened offscreen, as the implications of that ending have never been brought up again on this show to my knowledge
PREVIOUS DOCTOR WHO: couple of tiny references. actually it's more of a big send-up to league of gentlemen, considering Gatiss wrote it and Shearsmith plays the main bad guy
“SEXINESS”: again, cured!
INTERNAL WORLD: I think if this had had more world-building and less attempts at being a PG horror movie it might have been more horrifying actually, because the implications are already horrifying enough. but yeah, this, because of the characters, is quite a thinly built world, made all the more noticeable because the ideas within it are kind of compelling as heck and I do want to know more!
POLITICS: there's a couple of things in this, the first and more intentional of which is it brings up some good horrific capitalist world-building, and I wiiish whatever the story was was actually more about that. I mean, actually there's a really good TV concept on its own in it, that this episode didn't have the time or focus or ability to tell, because it's Doctor Who, we're not spending a season dwelling on the implications of functionally removing sleep from people, but ooooh I'd be interested in a story that did!
the other thing is that this has the somewhat dubious honour of featuring the first ever out trans actor in a lead role, played by Bethany Black, and... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I mean. I mean. she's a vat-grown grunt referred to with "it" pronouns (and not, I get the sense, because of personal choice, if personal choice came into this in the first place), who "cannot speak properly" because these "grunts" are frequently not... bred well enough? there's a loooot of episodes on Doctor Who that are about personhood and respecting that, and this... is not one of those episodes. 474 is never a focus of the Doctor in this episode, and in fact relatively early on both (she?) and this cis guy who frequently insults her the most (whom she is in love with???) are separated from the others. she then sacrifices herself for this guy, but it doesn't really matter because he's killed anyway shortly afterwards
it's just kinda messy and badly thought-out, but Bethany Black is great, and we know it's going to get better at some point. I want to make a point though as well that Bethany is fat and was in her 30s during this episode I think, and her character is presented in a relatively genderless way and smeared with camouflage paint or oil or smthin (and again, referred to with "it" pronouns), so I don't think a lot of people casually watching would have noticed that this character was a woman (if indeed, the episode understood that), in the sense that obviously trans people should get to play everyone and not "just" have to be prettified in order to be allowed onscreen, but it's a shame we couldn't see a fat trans woman being respected as a woman in this story, or youknow... get to assert her personhood, considering this is Doctor Who, and I hope that the wonderful onscreen transness we're getting will not be equated with thinness and youth exclusively in the future
but like, they could fully bring Bethany Black back as another character and I don't think people would recognise her as having been on the show before, so... do it cowards. you did it with fuckn Capaldi and Gillan and Cribbins and and and...
FULL RATING: 61/100 (if I can count….)
so I did actually check what the feedback to this episode was, and apparently at the time it was the lowest rated episode apart from Love & Monsters, which if anyone has been on this blog for a bit, you know I'm so into that episode. and I think that's worthy of a little comparison, because the thing about Love & Monsters is that while it is a bit gimmicky in format and to the left of a traditional episode, it does all of this in service to something. it's about specific people who exist in the sphere of the Doctor's influence, and that in turn explores a tertiary character (Jackie) who herself occupies a difficult space in this universe. it is, fundamentally, a very very human, softly tragic tale that builds up ideas that we'll return to many times over the course of the show
this episode does not have that. it's characters aren't very fleshed out, its world-building is shallow, and its purpose as the episode before a Very Important Episode seems to be to just. be there. and I think that's its fundamental weakness. if this were in another season, and given some tightening here and there to give it some kind of focus (my preference would be on giving some emotional insights on the Doctor and whoever the Companion is and/or making this very much about the single-episode characters For A Purpose, with the Doctor and Companion taking a backseat) I would have liked it better
as it is I don't dislike it, it's just oddly situated and relatively forgettable to me. Bethany Black should come back though

hey everyone, fortis (@iamf0rtis) here. i just started working on the finale of part 4, which is a two-parter that will start on december 23 and finish on the 30th. so i decided to hop on here and get sentimental about the red mafia for a min. when we first came up with the original idea for the red mafia, it was a stupid bit. we had all shown up to homecoming one year with something red on and jokingly called ourselves the red mafia. the dance came and went but we took the bit further, as we do. we created alternate personalities and storylines that we were going to "play" online, mainly on the tumblr we made. it wasnt until a week or so later when i was like "hey wait, i could write something with this". and so the red mafia loUre doc was born the beginning of the end, in a way lol the original idea with the doc was just cute little short stories that wouldnt have any like overarching lore. think a sitcom but with velvet, mad, and maroon. oh yeah, the others were barely ideas at this point. the people who were supposed to play them had some idea but i hadnt been given character files until later, so they were cut from the initial bit. thats why the red mafia didnt start completely together and part 1 is spent collecting solana and thorn. there was also another guy named krim, whose only lore was he was an anarchist punk who really just hates the government. yeah, suffice to say he was cut lol. theres a lot of other funny things that were cut in the final character designs, but i want to save those for some posts after part 4 is over, which once again is december 30th, 2023. make sure you all are caught up, cause its gonna be a banger :) i just wanna end this sappy ass post with a thank you. the red mafia has grown from a small bit me and my friends have to a 512 page, 162,000 word project that has taken over nearly every thought in my brain for the past two years. because oh yeah, the red mafias tumblrs 2nd birthday was in october and i missed it cause idk how to check my email lol. all of this couldnt have happened without the support from our tumblr followers and the near 700 people who have read the red mafia on wattpad. so yeah, go read the red mafia. i think thats enough sappiness for today. ive got a finale to write fortis, signing off

Anyone want to hear about my episode ideas for my fan companion (and secret zygon), Erin? No? Well your getting them! :D
Episode 1: Bats in the Belfry aka, "That is not a fucking bat"
We are introduced to Erin as she drives up to a property. This property is in the north east of England, and is a kinda crumbling, old country house/estate. It has recently been bought by a new family, and they want to do it up (as much as they can since something like this is probably listed lol) or even like perhaps it's a new property that has come into the hands of the NHS. Either way, the owners are having a bat survey done. Enter Erin, a 29 year old Ecologist.
There are hints or even scenes, building up tensions as the audience but not the characters can see that these possible bats... that ain't a bat. Erin decides, as per surveying thingy I need to research more, to come back at night/dusk when the bats are more active as there is stuff that suggests bat activity, but haven't been able to see anything since it's daytime and bats are nocturnal.
On return, hyjinks! Or rather more scary than simply hyjinks, but the adventure begins. Enter, Doctor. Why is he here? Plot reasons, that's what. Perhaps he's been tracking these things - that to absolutely no doctor who fan's surprise, are not bats, but actually aliens.
Plot. Ending. She's gonna travel and be a companion, tada! I know that didn't sound that interesting, but I've got a lot of thoughts I can't really express on mini scenes and visuals and relationships between how the characters interact that I can't put in writing, frustratingly. Just know that there's a vibe.
Episode xyz: The one where a bird gets stuck in the TARDIS
I'm surprised this hasn't happened before - or perhaps it has, and we just haven't seen it. This episode takes place for the majority, just inside the TARDIS. Unless I'm wrong, we haven't had a tardis as the setting episode since... Series 7? It's time to bring that back, with a low stakes episode.
Most people know the frustration of trying to get some animal, be it bird, insect or even something else, out of your house. And that animal like, never, wants to go out the way it came, it's like it wants to bang into the wall or window instead of the wide open door. Now imagine your house is an infinite complex of tunnels and rooms, stretching on for ever and ever and ever and ever... and ever... and ever....
Yup, that's the tardis, and there's a frightened animal, earth or otherwise, that we need to get out. Perhaps add possible tension by it damaging wiring or getting into places it really shouldn't, or the TARDIS ain't happy about all that jazz. Watch Erin and the Doctor bond as they hyjinks inside the TARDIS, and we get to see some rooms, and mechanics, and dimension-breaking stuff that we haven't seen before.
I've also got ideas for a two parter - somewhere in the second half of the series, possibly even like last two episodes. Not really anything about the big bad or whatever arc the series has, but about The Reveal.
And also the flashback and montage cold open at the start of the second episode of said two parter - Mwah! Chefs kiss! What I've got in my head I adore, each little scene and interaction, character building, little threads and stuff. The big bad ain't important, nooo it's this stuff it's delicious and I ship my own characters so damn much, but like... not in a straight up romantic way? It's complicated. They're alien. They're simultaneously Tudors, Millenials and Gen Alpha all at the same time. They're in love. But is it romantic love like humans have? Do zygons have a concept of romance? Idk but Rahul and Erin are soooo cute and I love them even though I made both of them up in my head.

Looks like Zwijo's the true "winner" of ep 98 in several ways. He got his last duel against Yudias, he even defeated him (with the (emotional) support of his henchmen) and then could leave this world like he wanted. Maybe that's why I don't find his death that sad?
I still think we should've gotten a 2-parter. Not for the duel itself (that had enough good back and forth) but so we had more time for other scenes/dialogs.
Like am I the only one who would've liked to see some talk between Dinois and Mitsuko after the former was caught by the latter? Ngl, I was a little disappointed how they didn't appear until Zwijo's legs gave up. Sure it's nice how both supported him but considering how long it took them to arrive where Zwijo and co. were, they could've done some little talking. After all, these two aren't exactly on good terms with each other so it would've been interesting to see them "making up" and then be there for the guy they both like.
Mitsuko in general was kinda interesting here. We knew before that she wanted to meet Zwijo to tell him something. But in the end, not only did she bring him his right-hand woman (whom she couldn't stand but she still saved her from falling) back but also didn't care for any personal talk but held his arm to support and smile along with him. I've seen several jpn fans praising her for simply being there for Zwijo instead of doing what she had initially planned. So she put Zwijo above herself. That's nice and considerate but now I wonder: Will Mitsuko ever get the chance to tell Zwijo what she wanted him to know? I do believe in him returning one day (season 3 completely without Zwijo? I doubt that) but that doesn't mean that Go Rush will actually care to have a scene of them having a proper talk without any negative feelings involved. Like I really want them to talk and just have a good relationship again, no matter if it ends in them being just friends or actually more.
I'm a bit surprised how Yuhi and Yuamu didn't shed a tear at all. Yes, there were moments where they looked like they're close to cry but in the end, they never did. Not for Valvelgear (I really thought Yuhi would react more considering he was very close with Valvelgear) nor for Zwijo. Besides Yudias, it's just Tazaki and Damamu crying. Speaking of Damamu: I still don't get why he has this good relationship with Zwijo. Like he was happy to see him, happy to lend him some power and then very emotional when seeing him die. But why? Yeah, Zwijo started to actually ask him for his power from arc 5 on but before, he would just take it without consent. So at least for me, Damamu being so emotional about Zwijo is a little strange.
The episode ended with Yudias crying Zwijo's name with tears in his eyes - just to have the preview showing him all happy with the others in the Nanahoshi theme park. I swear, this feels just weird. Not saying that Yudias should start his depression arc now but he seems genuinely happy in the preview as if nothing bad had happen before. Some think he might just pretend that he's fine but Idk about that. Yudias isn't good at hiding his true feelings and he's known for being very honest. So I do think he's laughing and having fun for real.
Now that we get counterparts for Nanaho's henchmen, there's a good chance that we will se her own counterpart soon too. After all, one of the dudes was holding a puppet (?) that looks like her. I do wonder why the Nanahoshi theme park is suddenly relevant. Will we finally get to know more about the Nanahoshi family? Will Yuga be a topic considering he has visited that place before in Sevens? I still expect him to show up and talk with Yudias before the arc is over...

now that I've more definitively finished series 5 I can comfortably say that it was probably my least favorite run of the revival to this point lmao. at the very best it's on part with series 3 - the weakest of the RTD era - while at its worst it's genuinely unwatchable
there's definitely some merit here though. it's very entertaining if you stop expecting character beats to be sprinkled in while in a general sense it performs its role of entertainment really well. it's flashy and snappy and loud from the first minute of The Eleventh Hour and rarely slows down from there. there was a clear desire to continue the more Epic nature of the show that had started bubbling up during series 4 where it was, yanno, kind of earned
but that bombastic nature is kind of the biggest positive about it. gone are the deeper meanings and narratives, character introspection is often relegated to jokes or just kind of unearned. any depth the RTD era might have carried did not get passed on here, with 11 being a huge asshole for like 9 out of 13 episodes while you could remove Amy from every episode and I doubt I'd notice
Moffat clearly leaned more towards a fairy tale interpretation of the Doctor and the world around them, but it largely falls flat because characters are rarely humanized. everyone seems to be carrying the punchline to someone else's joke and little else. there's a magic to certain things, sure, and it does start to trend upwards near the end of the series, but it's bogged down by this weirdly incessant need for quips and jokes regardless of the situation. imagine if at the end of the Library two parter, the Doctor and Donna had a fuckin laugh in the TARDIS. like c'mon
generally speaking too I found 11 to be more annoying than I remembered. he constantly talks about not having a plan and constantly makes these weird little aside jokes during his ramblings but we don't really see him ever be genuine or nice to anyone for a long while - certainly not towards Amy, either, who he at times seems to fucking hate lmao. multiple times I wondered why she kept on with him, but she never once really seems to want to go home because of how she's treated and only does after some harrowing adventure seems to wake her up - until it doesn't! like idk if she just wanted to fuck the guy that badly - the scene where she both jumps him and spreads out for him is so sincerely embarrassing I cannot believe it got filmed - or if she was just. stubborn? stupid? we don't get much from Amy, not enough to know her at least, to the point that fucking Rory, a guy in like five episodes, is a better character than her. what the fuck!
there's also more of a reliance on CGI this series than before and while I don't tend to fault TV CGI all that much it really starts to get difficult to brush off or otherwise ignore when a lot of elements are CGI'd in and that CGI just. doesn't hold up. the CGI during RTD's era wasn't great, but it was often more skillfully utilized and so it was at least more charming than it is here. similarly, I noticed the ADR was way fucking worse this time around than I'd ever noticed before. entire exchanges come through that were clearly recorded in a booth somewhere and it's really funny honestly
ultimately I think series 5 does play to Moffat's strengths to good effect at times - the opening of Eleventh Hour with 11 and Amelia is still really solid, a lot of the timey whimey fucky wucky stuff is done with consistency enough that you can sorta easily follow it - but all too often you can kinda see his stories straining now that they aren't just one offs in someone else's narrative. a lot of the other writers similarly seemed to struggle, given just how bad some stories get. the Silurian two parter was genuinely so bad I wondered why they brought them back, while the Angel two parter feels as if it was made to sabotage the angels as a concept lmao
it's not all bad, and it's certainly entertaining enough all the same. Vincent and the Doctor still holds up, the Lodger was more fun than you might expect, Amy's Choice is largely fun while I even enjoyed the finale stuff to a point, and Christmas Carol is a genuine standout among the holiday specials (mostly because it's. actually focused on Christmas this time around. lmao), and there's solid moments spread throughout even the worst of the episodes, with the best of them being obviously focused on humanity and relatable traits - a thing the RTD era unabashedly leaned into
but it's such a step down from the peak that was series 4. all the character work is just gone, everything feels so much less thoughtful and the characters themselves tend to range from annoying to boring and little else. there are always gonna be growing pains when crews behind the scenes change like they did here, but some of series 5 is worse beyond that excuse. I can see why it stayed hot, why it caught on even more so and why so many fell in love with this series - it's entertaining if you don't look too deep, the characters enjoyable if you don't expect much from them, Matt and Karen have obvious chemistry as leads despite the best efforts to stamp that out - but as I feel right now, it's super overrated and largely just sort of okay at best with a few great highlights and some drastic lowlights all the same. far from a classic, but still not the dirt worst I guess
at least series 6 is. Moffat at his Moffiest!

spyfall pt1 salt commentary
i think a problem with ch*bnall’s writing is that he can’t seem to write two-parters. with both spyfall and the finale they feel like two episodes stuck awkwardly together, the first part will be it’s own thing and then second part will go on to do another thing. like here with spyfall, the first part is about barton and the kasaavin invading tech on earth and then the second part derails to become a run around through time trying to escape the master, it feels like a complete detour from the plot.
the fact that spyfall was originally an single episode that didnt feature the master is so obvious. this pisses me off so much that ch*bnall couldn’t even be bothered to write an original master story and instead just got an old story and stuffed him in it. the interconnection/ cohesion of the two parts also are not helped by having two directors for one story. i can only guess this was a production issue because i cannot see how anyone would favour this approach.
i’m not a big fan of the spy theme. i think it isn’t done as well as it could be but that could just be the story itself. i feel like it also comes across as quiet cheesy (bad) at times. anyway on with the episode.
as with other instances in dw, i don’t understand why organisations seek out the companions specifically. in this case, why the fuck would MI6 seek out these 3 random civilians who have no discernible skills for the situation. i feel like this was only put in here so graham could make an uber joke. and this is easily fixed, you just have MI6 approach the doctor first and then she says she not going anywhere without the fam etc episode goes along as normal.
yaz skipping work could be an actual conflict point for her character which could be explored but it’s literally never addressed again after this scene. (i mean in flux it’s unclear whether she still works for the police or not so idk 🤷‍♀️) also where is she getting the paperwork for her secondments from? is the doctor forging it for her? or is she forging it herself? idk this doesn’t matter because ch*bnall says so.
(additional point why does she need to skip work? she travels in a time machine).
as usual we have our classic exposition heavy ch*bnall dialogue where characters says everything that’s happening to them out loud. so glad to see this never changes(!)
yknow if a car had just gone out of control and tried to kill me, i would not continue to still drive said car.
Classic Ch*bnall Doctor Gender Joke ™️. isn’t the doctor being a woman so funny guys?(!)
i don’t understand why O has been kicked out of MI6/ is off grid, like this doesn’t add anything. just feels like an excuse to go to another location. like there’s so much location hopping in this two parter and it really doesn’t add much.
i have to ask why does the doctor hold the phone like that? Quirky™️ amirite?
O replies extremely quick to that message. i honestly don’t think he even had time to hear it! (okay so call me pedantic but i timed it, the doctor’s voice message is 17 seconds long and O replies within 3 seconds).
i find it funny the doctor sends ryan and yaz off on their own as they don’t really have much experience of handling things on their own especially in a situation where they are suppose to be undercover which they definitely don’t have any experience in. also ryan does not agree to this (and then yaz gives him a super dirty look for… some reason). even graham points this out lol. and then the doctor replies that it’s ‘minimum 40% safe’. lol as we know from the tsuranga conundrum the doctor doesn’t actually give a shit about her companions, if they die they die.
‘trust no one’ says the doctor who’s gonna trust a person she’s met once (i mean it’s not important the audience never saw this bc ch*bnall says so, i mean it’s not like the master is an important character or anything right?(!) like the whole O reveal would hit more if we as the audience had met O before. like it would make little difference to the plot if O was some random character the doctor hadn’t met before. but hey what do i know about writing?
don’t worry everyone sacha is here, so this episode just got 1000x better 😉 wow if only ch*bnall had thought to put sexy man in front of me to distract me i wouldn’t complain about his era nearly as much.
this is purely my own headcanon so i can’t really complain but to me i feel like the doctor would know if they were inside a tardis?
surely if you’re doing security checks you’d do that before they got inside the building?
i guess i should applaud yaz and ryan for actually doing something to contribute to the plot as this is rare.
why would you invite two complete strangers to your house for a party?? (i don’t buy it as ‘barton apologising’ nah that’s just weird) but pretty convenient for our characters huh?
wouldn’t they have someone to escort yaz and ryan out? barton literally just leaves them in that room alone?? wow security is right shit at this place. convenient for our characters though thank god.
‘is he just here for the running commentary?’ lol the master hates ch*bnall’s dialogue as much as i do. honestly though i don’t know if this is ch*bnall being self aware or him trying to be funny because if he was self aware surely he’d improve his dialogue, ugh it’s so frustrating.
the doctor’s interrogation tactic where she asks a dozen questions consecutively without the other person responding to any of them is back and is still very annoying.
what’s with this thing about ryan and yaz’s sister is a bit weird, i mean how old even is sonya?
yaz being kidnapped would be interesting if they actually did anything with it but as usual this is never brought up again. also if she was kidnapped for anything longer than 10 seconds it would give the episode yknow actual stakes. ch*bnall just refuses to commit to putting any the companions in any kind of danger without immediately undoing it.
and like why do the kasaavin return yaz so quickly? it’s feel so pointless like the situation is way too short to have any proper impact.
also im not sure what it is suppose to be that terrifies yaz so much? like i’d buy it that she felt alone and thought she had died if the situation was longer but it’s over so quickly, it literally only lasts a couple of minutes (with no indication that yaz spent a longer time in the other dimension).
i also find it weird that we don’t see the doctor comfort yaz on screen after this ordeal. but hey why would we see the doctor actually care about her companions?
okay surely the tardis would know if it were inside another tardis definitely, come on this has to canon right? like this has happened at least twice in classic who.
sacha is honestly the best actor here. like hospitalised for his back after carrying this era honestly.
all the men wear black tux… boo boring zero points.
the casino scenes are so pointless.
‘remember our trip to the great kalisperon bike off?’ yay more referencing things that happened off screen! that counts as character development right? just once i’d actually like to see someone that happens in a previous episode pay off in a future one, yknow because that’s how character development actually works in a satisfying manner to the audience not just being told a bunch of stuff happened off screen.
‘mate this is one of the quite days’ yes yaz because your adventures with the doctor have all been so thrilling haven’t they?
why would you get on a plane with no escape? nah what was the plan? what if barton just shot you all dead on the spot?
what i don’t like about the master reveal is that the audience is never given the information to work this out. the doctor only works it out because of a piece of information which is never told to the audience prior (and i don’t really count the ‘spymaster’ line. many times in doctor who have we used the word master and it has not been the THE master). O never does anything suspicious to make the audience question him. unless you notice O not running to the plane at the same time as the rest of the fam but the reveal happens 30 seconds so it doesn’t really count.
this reveal is very cheesy. i can’t decide whether it’s good cheesy or bad cheesy.
nitpicking but the master says ‘close to my heart’ instead of hearts. wow amateur hour chris amateur hour.
don’t know why the master says ‘stick with me yaz’ when this is literally never followed up on. why doesn’t the master kidnap her or something idk. so annoying that master doesn’t interact with the companions post reveal (although i guess this will change in the centenary).
and honestly the story on set where the others had to tell bradley walsh what had just happened when the master revealed himself, because he didn’t understand what was happening is just wild. honestly if the actors themselves don’t understand what’s happening in the story that is never a good sign.

Series 2 Episodes 8 & 9: The Impossible Planet & The Satan Pit
The intro of the ood, a base uder siege floating around a black hole, and fking SATAN HIMSELF. This is one hell of an episode of Dr Who, let's go.
So, this is the the arguably first or second proper base under siege episode of new who, depending on how you see Dalek. Personally, I feel this is the first time the true modern dr who base under siege formula is nailed down. With a crew of 4/6 alongside The Doctor and their companion trying to survive an alien attack in a confined base. I have mixed feelings about the B.U.S. formula. I think in some episodes it's pushed to it's fullest and creates some of the best episodes of new who, but in others it makes the story very formulaic and drawn out. In this episode, I feel it sets a good baseline for how a base under siege episode should go. It's got a strong plot and a fantastic threat, with albeit some slightly less interesting characters.
Speaking of that fantastic threat, let's talk about it. The Ood are a another iconic addition to the whoniverse, and as a "slave race who wants to be slaves" it creates so many good opportunities to explore historic or current events through their episodes. I do feel they're a bit underutilised in this episode compared to others (they become satan lackeys for the entire second episode which is a shame), but we get to explore them more in future episodes so I'm not up in arms about it. But they're the tertiary threat we've got two more to talk about.
SATAN. WHAT? HUH?! I adore seeing The Doctor in episodes where they are just out of their depth and do not understand who/what they're dealing with and the confusion/curiosity you see with 10's actions when he figures out he's dealing with the devil. Dangg it's good stuff. However the best use of this villain is what Satan does to Toby. There are so many great little horror moments where you as a viwer get strapped in and are forced to sit and watch as Satan's puppet sabotages the group from the inside out. Will Thorp's performance is amazing, and there are so many little moments that are beautifully scary. My favourite being his lil shushing motion towards the chasing Ood as the group are climbing out of the air vents. Amazing.
I do think there are some holes in the script though. The TARDIS being down in the Satan pit is just, not explained at all. And the fact that there were legit 0 consequences to The Doctor's decision to throw the planet into the black hole at the end kinda irks me? It did just feel a little bit too convenient, but hey maybe there's some divine intervention there idk slkgdhj.
TL:DR/Overview: A strong base under siege two-parter that has some creative running themes and an amazing antagonist. This episode does sacrifice some of it's character work and leans on doctor ex machina's at the end in order to support it's strengths, but I'm willing to forgive that because this episode is an awesome ride. I'm going for A tier here. (also woah my opinions on this series have balanced into perfect symmetry this time LMAO. well, so far at least :3)
Join me tomorrow for Love and Monsters, the first Doctor-lite episode of new who!

———————————————————————-
“Hey you okay?” Leo asked, concerned, you had been looking and sounding so depressed and sad lately which is why he asked. “Huh? Oh! Yeah I’m fine.” you answered smiling gently, you were lying you had been feeling extremely down lately, feeling like you were useless since you never got to really help the four brothers. But you also didn’t know how to help them, but that wasn’t the only reason you were down. “Are you sure? You know you can talk to me if something is bothering you okay?” he said, placing a hand gently on your shoulder, which made butterflies start to burst in your stomach as your face gently turned pink. He was the other reason you were down, the handsome turtle mutant in front of you was the other reason you were down. You knew he could never love you, how could he ever love a useless, hopeless romantic human like you? “Yes I’m sure.” you said, nodding your head with a smile on your face still, hoping the blush on your face wasn’t noticeable. He looked at you suspiciously before sighing, and walking off. Your smile fell as soon as you saw him leave, you couldn’t let him know how you felt he would probably be disgusted by you and how you felt about him. Feeling your stomach growl you decided to go to the kitchen, as you neared the entrance of the kitchen you heard the four brothers talking, wanting to know what they were talking about you hid behind the entrance and listened in. “Okay so we need to find a way to get into big mama’s, D! What did you get?” Raph said to Donnie who was currently looking at the screen on his tech arm brace. “Well it says here that big mama is holding a masquerade ball, which would be a great time to try and get in since at masquerade balls you need to wear a mask. Specifically either a columbina, bauta, volto, arlecchino, dottore peste, pulcinella, or pierrot mask.” Donnie said, listing off the masks while showing pictures of each mask. You got a smile on your face, maybe you could follow them to the ball! “Perfect! We can go in with one of these masks on and no one will recognize us!” Raph said smiling. “I call dibs on the arlecchino mask!” Mikey said excitedly. “Hey no fair I wanted to wear the arlecchino mask!” Leo said, whining. “You both can wear the arlecchino mask!” Donnie said annoyedly, shaking his head. “Alright I’ll wear the Bauta mask then, what about you Donnie?” Raph asked, looking at his younger tech obsessed brother. “I’ll be wearing the volto mask, also to disguise ourselves more I say we get some Victorian eques clothing, so we can fit in since the requirements to attend are to wear masks, and wear traditional Victorian era ball clothing. WHICH I already got!” Donnie said, pointing to a rack full of outfits for each turtle. “Great, then all we need are the masks!” Raph said smiling, before Donnie pointed out another thing. “We also need to learn ballroom dancing which we can learn because big mama’s masquerade ball isn’t till next week.” Donnie said, still looking at his tech arm brace. “Alright then we just need to learn ballroom dancing and get masks” Raph said, sighing, crossing his arms. “But how are we gonna learn ballroom dancing?” Raph said in thought. “Wait (Y/N) knows ballroom dancing! We can ask them to teach us!” Leo said excitedly, you froze, how were you gonna get ready for the ball while teaching the brothers how to ballroom dance FOR said ball!? Cause you need an outfit, you already have a mask but you need an outfit! Then it hit you, the ballroom dress your mother gave to you cause she knew how much you loved it when you were little, cause you were into sewing and dancing and when you were little and still are. You can fix up the dress to make it look like new while teaching the brothers how to dance! Plus the dress would hide your true identity even more! “Alright we got everything figured out now! Now let's go ask (y/n) to teach us how to dance!” Raph said his footsteps coming closer to the entrance, you quickly ran away to the projector room and sat down on a bean bag. “Yo! (y/n)! Can you teach us how to ballroom dance?” Raph said walking
into the room and to you a smile on his face, you smiled back happily standing up dusting yourself off. “Of course why though?” you asked innocently already knowing why but you didn’t want them to know that. “Well-” he was cut off by Leo. “we just found interest in it and really want to learn such an elegant art” Leo lied expertly, Raph sighed in relief when Leo said that. “Oh that's great! How about we start tomorrow at my place?" you said smiling, Leo smiled back. "perfect! thanks!" Leo said smiling warmly at you, those butterflies erupted in your stomach again and your face slightly turned pink. "no problem" you said somewhat shyly as you stared at him the feeling of sickeningly sweet love filling up your chest, you snapped yourself out of your love filled trance and smiled. "I gotta get home see you guys tomorrow!" you said quickly leaving, Leo watched your form leave still with that warm smile on his face, but his eye had a more dreamy look in his eyes. "and in three, two, one" Donnie counted down then pointed to Leo and as if on cue. "god aren't they just perfect..." Leo said, dreamily still looking at the spot you were standing at. his brothers rolled their eyes at him and how love sick he was with you. "Just confess to them already!" Mikey said exasperated, Leo seemed to snap out of his trance from what Mikey said. "WHAT?! NO! no! I-I can't confess! I-I mean I'm a mutant turtle! and their- their...the most perfect and beautiful being ever in existence.." Leo said in a bitter sweet tone, before walking to his room. his brothers looked at him as he walked away sadly they knew you loved Leo just as much as you loved him. but they knew the both of you were to scared to say anything to one another, they just hoped something would push you two to confess to on another.
TIME SKIP!
over the last two and a half weeks you taught the brothers how to ballroom dance, and they learned quite fast! while you fixed up dress in your spare time which you were able to fix just in time. But during the weeks you saw Leo was acting weird, you saw whenever it was his turn to practice with you he became nervous when he placed his hand on your hip, and would just stare at you as you two danced, and whenever it was his brothers turn to practice he looked angry and upset about it. You wanted to know why he was acting so weird but you didn't want to annoy him, you couldn't ask him today anyway cause today was the day of the masquerade ball the day you were gonna prove yourself useful. You grabbed a pair of black stockings you had and put them on before putting on the jeweled white high heels you got on, before walking over to the ball gown you fixed over the weeks. Looking at its full restored beauty of jewels, lace, satin, delicate white fabric, puffy sleeves, beautiful gold embroidery. and many skirt layers, you realized it looked like the ball gown Sarah wore in Labyrinth in the ballroom scene with Jareth. Gently taking the dress off of the mannequin, you put it on and it fit like a glove hugging the curves of your waist defining it. walked over to your dresser and grabbed the glittery white mask off of the dresser, the mask had white lace trim, the eyes having rhinestones around the edges. the left side of the mask was mostly covered in fake white roses and fake rose petals, and on the right side another fake rose with see through white ribbon, plain white ribbon and strings of white beads coming from behind it. you put the mask on and grabbed your white cloak and put it on before leaving your apartment and heading to where the masquerade was being held. At big mamas hotel...
mean while with the turtles
the four brothers were fully dressed, Donnie wore a purple velvet Victorian jacket, with a white poets shirt underneath, he was also wearing black pants with black Victorian shoes. his Volto mask was ornately designed with gold lace around the trim, black lace around the eyes, and purple and gold wispy paint strokes around the face and a gold painted stick that was attached to the mask so he could hold it up to his face. Raph was wearing a dark red Victorian trench coat that had a hood that was draped over his head, he wore a black Victorian dress shirt underneath the cloak paired with black pants and leather Victorian shoes. his Bauta mask was a much more simpler design then the other three, it had a gold lace trim with a black, white, and red diamond pattern across the face with gold lace outlining each diamond. Mikey wore a elaborate orange and black patchy Victorian Harlequin outfit with a puffy white collar around his neck. his Arlecchino/Harlequin mask was the most elaborate, the mask was made to be smiling the lips of the mask painted gold, and around the eyes had an odd gold, black, bronze pattern, had another black, gold, bronze, and white zig zag pattern near the crown of the masks, speaking the crown of the mask small black with gold wrapping around, and even smaller white rope with gold accents came to a widows peak near the front with gold lacing on top, and dozens of gold, black, cream colored fabric wired spikes with embroidery and bells at the end were all on the top of the mask and around it. Leo though.. well he wore a outfit similar to Jareths outfit from the ballroom scene in Labyrinth with Sarah. his mask was a columbina mask that was simple it was midnight blue with open parts on the nose, and barely noticeable ornate painted patterns. they all roamed around dancing with people a few times trying to find a way to get to big mama's office, while Leo was doing so he stopped and looked at the person that just walked in. they looked like a masked Sarah from Labyrinth, Leo couldn't stop looking at them, he decided to walk over to them and ask for a dance. and just as he reached them the band started playing "as the world falls down" by David Bowie from Labyrinth. he tapped the persons shoulder, and stared at their (e/c) eyes hypnotized, he held his hand out and gently said. "may I have this dance?" the person stared at him before taking his hand saying a quiet. "of course" he gently placed his hand on their hip, them taking the end of their ball gown and placing their hand on his bicep. The two began to dance to the music playing in the background as they stared into each others eyes, hypnotized by each others eyes. but something about this persons eyes felt so familiar for some reason, still he continued to gracefully dance with them through the crowd. as the song ended the two still stared at each other, before the other let go of him and the end of their dress before saying. "you're a wonderful dancer." they sounded quiet shy and Leo found it so cute. "you're a great dancer as well..but I have to ask" he said still looking at them grabbing their hands gently in his, the person gave him a nod as to let him ask his question. "who are you under that mask?" he asked still entranced by their eyes, they chuckled a little. "I'm afraid you'll have to find out after midnight, but I have a feeling you already know." they said gently taking their hands from his and walking away, Leo stood their and looked at the place they were thinking about what they said and what it meant when it hit him. it was YOU, WHY WERE YOU HERE?!

Is it just me or the way the companions of colour are treated in the show is truly unfair? Martha goes without saying, the violently gruesome ending Bill got and how Ryan and Yaz are (arguably) the least loved companions in NuWho just cause we don't really know who they are. Especially when Dan came along and suddenly his character is well written and we can connect with him even though it's only been 2 episodes?? Idk, is it just me?
I feel like I should start this by saying I am very white so if anyone feels like coming in here and adding more to this that I didn’t say or tell me I’m wrong about something, then please do so. Also this somehow turnt into a full on essay so strap in I guess
MARTHA (& MICKEY & MARTHA’S FAMILY)
You’re right, Martha for sure goes without saying, but imma talk about her anyway lmao. Imo Martha is absolutely the companion of colour (or just companion in general) that has been treated the worst in the show. I’d almost go as far as to say she is the only companion of colour that has truly been treated awfully, because it was a constant thing throughout her series and not just how she left (Bill) or whether or not you think the writers have done a good job at connecting you to the characters (Ryan, Yaz).
And really it’s like, the thing of Martha loving the Doctor and him barely even noticing her would literally not be so uncomfortable if she was some white girl and not the first ever black companion or if it was toned down even just a little bit. The Doctor being sad about Rose is not, in itself, a bad thing but the amount it goes on and the way it just happens to be when we get the first ever black companion is a choice if ever I’ve seen one.
Then away from Martha’s loving the Doctor thing you have the line in The Shakespeare Code about how it’s probs gonna be tough for her to get around because she’s black and the Doctor is like, ‘Just walk around like you own the place, that’s what I do.’ And it’s like yeah, it works for you because you’re a generic white man and Martha clearly isn’t. It would have been sooo much better if they had an episode that actually focused on how much harder it would be for Martha sometimes (like Rosa does) because this was the first opportunity the show ever had to do it as she was the first companion of colour (unless you count Mickey which I guess you could but doing an episode like that with an Official companion and not just a tag along would have been better I think)
Then you have Human Nature/Family of Blood where she’s a maid in 1913 for however many months and had racist jokes/comments thrown at her by kids and staff. And I know that that two-parter is an adaptation of another DW book but again giving this story to the Doctor and his first ever black companion was a choice and they really could have adapted it in a way that didn’t turn Martha into a maid with barely any rights. Like, Martha is already gonna be bogged down enough with having to keep an eye on John Smith’s ass so why tf would the TARDIS send them to live in a place where Martha would also just like, struggle to even get treated like a person half the time.
And while we’re talking about Martha, we might as well talk about her family, who get captured by a guy who is literally named the Master and have to spend a year basically being his slaves which is like, sure, it’s defo in character for the The Master to capture a bunch of people and make them work for him but it’s just a bit unfortunate that those people happen to be black and he happens to be called the Master. Like, I don’t think this is a huuge deal, I just think it’s a bit uncomfortable for no one to point out how bad it looks
And while we’re in RTD’s era, we might as well talk about Mickey who was treated like shit by Rose and the Doctor a few times. And again I’m like, yeah, Rose binning her boring human boyfriend in favour of a cool alien makes sense but Mickey being black is a bad look on RTD’s part, even if, like Martha, he ends up getting a great arc and comes out on top. It’s just one of those things that’s like surely the people making the show knew that it looked bad idk.
I kinda feel like people of colour being treated like shit in DW is mainly an RTD era problem, even if both Martha and Mickey do have great arcs, there is no denying that they are the characters in that era that are worse off and just generally treated poorly because some white characters are being assholes. And it’s like, them being treated like shit, in universe, is nothing to do with their skin colour most of the time. Like, Ten wasn’t ignoring Martha because she’s black and Rose didn’t leave Mickey because he’s black, but it was defo a choice, intentional or otherwise, on the casting people’s part to pretty much only cast black people in roles where they’re being put down in favour of Rose and/or the Doctor.
BILL
Bill’s death is objectively brutal as fuck but imo it’s a great story and I’d probs say it’s my fave companion ending we’ve seen in New Who so far. And while killing off a black lesbian could have been a really bad look for Moffat (and I can see why people may not like her ending purely for that reason), for me it’s just not a big deal.
Idk how to explain why I don’t think her race (or sexuality) really factor into her death being brutal other than to say Bill was an amazing character who was treated really well and given the respect she deserved throughout the whole of Series 10. So killing her off doesn’t feel brutal because she is black or a lesbian, it just feels brutal because she’s a great character and obviously no one likes to see a great character die.
However, if say, Martha, a character who we have established was treated poorly quite a lot, on top of all that, ended up brutally dying at the end of her series, I would have had a bit of an issue.
And also Bill’s death doesn’t even end up being permanent so I struggle to see the point in holding onto it potential being really offensive. But tbh even if she didn’t end up surviving, I still don’t think I’d really have a problem with her ending.
RYAN & YAZ
Correct me if I’m wrong but it seems like you’re coming from the POV of Ryan and Yaz have been done dirty because Chibnall just isn’t that good at writing characters and getting you connected to them but that actually has, like, nothing to do with their race at all. It’s more like you (and many others, I’m sure) just aren’t a fan of how Chib writes his characters.
With Martha, we can all she was treated like shit. With Bill, brutally killing a black lesbian is possibly not everyone’s cup of tea. But with Ryan and Yaz it’s just.. some people don’t like the quality of the showrunner’s writing. Which is fair enough, we all know the writing of Chibnall’s era isn’t as good as previous eras but I just don’t think it really has anything to do with POC companions being treated unfairly. Just not being able to connect with a character feels like more of a ‘you’ problem than a race problem.
Because I’d say that out of all of Thirteen’s companions, Ryan and Yaz are actually the ones that have grown and changed the most during their run and I feel like I know them the most.
In terms of Dan, I connected with him in episode one but I also connected with Ryan, Yaz and literally every other companion within the first couple of episodes as well so

Tumblr media
People around you ate their lunch but you chose not to- not yet at least… not when he wasn’t here yet
Looking at the lab in front of you, it was so simple and so straightforward, it made you feel a little embarrassed at what you were doing
But all you had to do was wait for him since you needed all the “help” you could get since the class was “challenging” for you
Reading over the directions for the second time to spare time, it was so painfully easy
All you had to do was perform several experiments and for each one, write out an equation and indicate which kind of reaction it was- composition, decomposition, single replacement, or double replacement
You really could’ve done it without any parter or anyone. You excelled in your STEM classes but if it you “struggling” just a little meant help from him and his undivided attention on you, so be it then
After letting out a bored sigh for the nth time, he finally appeared
He peaked his head through the door and stepped in when he saw you, giving you a little smile
It was happening again. Your heart beat faster when you saw his smile, the way the uniform, that so many others also wore, fit him so well
The uniform actually looked since since he was tall and his stature broad
He settled his blazer and bag down on the counter beside the window out of the way and sat in the stool beside you
“So what do you need help with today?” He asked. He rolled up the white sleeves of his uniform shirt, revealing his nicely tanned, and toned, arms, resting them on the black lab table, leaning forward and close to you
His eyes were so so enchanting. Since the two of you sat at the lab stations in the back of the classroom, it was beside the windows so the lights made his hazel eyes seem so golden and ethereal
“Uh, reactions and um, equations,” you snapped yourself out of it, glancing at the paper you had stared at since class
“Hm, let me see..” He took the paper and slid it in front of him, reading through it
You sat on the stool beside him, waiting for him to finish reading through
This was almost always the routine. Whenever you needed help, you made sure to take the opportunity to ask Kuroo
“Did you already eat?” He paused from his reading, looking over to you
You shook your head. “I didn’t want to eat while doing the lab”
“Well, very lucky for you, I remember doing this lab last year. And.” He leaned closer. “I can help you out with the actual procedures,” he whispered, sitting back up to continue reading. “Plus you need to eat so you can grow taller or else you’ll just stay as my arm rest”
To which this comment made you slap his arm playfully but he insisted you ate anyways
He made sure you watched how he did the procedure, every step so next time if you guys did it again in class, you wouldn’t be “clueless”
He pointed out which ones for you were which kind of reaction, explaining thoroughly as to why they were those
He glanced back and forth to you, catching the way you nodded along to his words, your eyes wide looking at the reactions, differentiating them
Now it was time for you to write out equations
He wrote out one of them for you, helping you out and letting you try them out
You nodded along, tilting your head every now and then pretending you were understanding for the first time
When he let you try it out, you did the second one slowly, putting a wrong number here and there, mixing up the variables for Kuroo to correct you
After getting it right, you tried the third, going a little faster, getting the “hang” of it
When it came to the fourth one, you got a little carried away and did it flawlessly
“When’s this little game going to end?” He asked, resting his chin on his folded arms, looking to you, making you freeze
“Game? What are you talking about?” You stuttered over your words, furrowing your brows
“This game, where you pretend to not know what you’re doing,” he slid your paper away and took the pencil from your hand, setting it aside. “After the first few times, I actually thought you needed help but you’re as transparent as glass”
“I played along but I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty over it.” He stood from his stool, standing up and resting his arms on both sides of the lab table, trapping you in the little space where students sat
He leaned close to your now flustered face, a light blush tinting your cheeks. “Why don’t we play… a different game?” He looked down to your with his teasing eyes but it was like there was something behind them that you couldn’t figure out
“What kind of game?” You bashfully asked
“Any game you want. What do you say?” He leaned close, his voice and breath hot against your ear, one hand taking yours

Custom Toonami Block Week 92 Rundown
Stone Ocean: Jolyene’s continuing prison life stuff and we do your basic Orange is the New Black stuff about how you have to be a hardass in prison (at least I assume that’s what it’s about idk) so Jolyene poisons a bunch of people with quarter dust crushed by her new Stand which is admittedly pretty badass and she gives another girl down on her luck advice about standing up for herself even though she doesn’t have a punching ghost to back it up and will probably get the shit kicked out of her as soon as she doesn’t have the advantage. Anyway we continue the weird oscillation of badass Jolyene to confused doe-eyed Jolyene when weird Stand shit starts happening with a baseball kid and a blind sniper with a name that’s weird and long and I won’t remember it. Jotaro finally goes to see his daughter and tells her about Stands and shit and then Jolyene gets shot and a card dies and the blind sniper has a weird Metal Gear Solid power and Jolyene protects herself on instinct with her Stand but Jotaro can’t despite his ability literally being stopping time and being unreasonably strong and precise. Stone Ocean (the Stand, not the show) seems to be oddly defensive and works automatically to protect Jolyene more often than other Stands, I’m not sure if it’s because she’s new to Stands and isn’t actively commanding it as much or if it’s a quirk of the Stand itself or if it’s just Araki’s weird writing idk. Anyway a guard is dead and Jotaro and Jolyene are stuck in a room with bullet holes in each of them and a blind sniper using a plastic bag in the wind to hunt them down… yeah this is Jojo alright.
Inuyasha:  Still on the Filler train here like we will be for the forseeable future but I always found this one to be kind of interesting. The Fake Sacred Jewel mini-arc has boring generic villains that are legit reskins of past villains but also brings the series back to the reflections on the nature of the jewel and the human heart that we got back at Sango’s village and I always thought that was a neat thing to double back on. We also get Izumo who stands out in the feudal era by actually having a brain and talking like an emo poet, it’s neat to see him try to break down science and shit despite being in the complete wrong era to even begin to understand it, also he likes birds so I guess he’s a relative of Android 16. This one’s actually a two parter and we end off with a bull demon that has a club full of fake jewels and a lot of bullshit powers but it’s weird because he sounds like dumb muscle but starts waxing poetic about the nature of the jewel and the soul and it’s honestly kind of fucking hilarious.
Yu Yu Hakusho: It’s time for the Yusuke vs Jin fight!! This is probably the one I remember the most form the Dark Tournament since when I was little I kind of only half-watched the Toguro fight since it’s hard to tell people you have to schedule things around a tv show when you’re twelve years old. But yeah this one’s kind of straightforward, not a huge amount to say on it, Jin’s just a supremely likeable guy, dumb irish accent and all, Yusuke’s struggling with the fact he can deflect ranged attacks with wind and can out-maneuver him with flight for melee. His last trick is shooting directly into one of his vortex fists to blow them both up but Jin catches on and so they only both get blown a little up. Jin’s response to this is “What’s worse than one Whirlwind Fist? TWO WHIRLWIND FISTS!” and so Yusuke has to use his ultimate technique: The Spirit Wave… problem being he never actually learned it. It’s one of those deals of “I’ve seen the diagram and practiced all the steps but I’ve never DONE it before” as anyone who works retail can attest, that always happens at the worst time.
Fate Zero: It’s Finale time again and we basically know where this is going, Saber Getsuga Tensho’s the Grail and Gilgamesh and Kirei get drowned in Grail Cummies and become zombies or some shit so they can stick around for the real series. Kiritsugu apparently gets Plot Cancer from the Grail Cummies although that’s never actually stated it just kinda happens, Saber gets trapped in her own personal hell thinking she’s awful while Lancelot gets a voiceover saying she’s great, so glad we got that character arc done, like net zero character development, all those discussions about if Saber was this fantastic leader everyone loved or if she was a foolish child too worried about being an idol to actually let people stand on their own two feet are basically waved off with a shrug. Kiritsugu finds Shirou and is so fucking relieved he only murdered 11,999,999 people today instead of 12,000,000 that Shirou decides to dedicate his entire life to pursuing that high. Rin has a fucked up life and it makes me just wish the story was about her anyway because even her story wasn’t really about her. Also apparently her mom isn’t dead and Kariya just choked her enough to drive her crazy and make her paraplegic which idk the medical info about that but it doesn’t sound right. I think she’s dead by UBW anyway so idk what it matters aside from putting more shit on Baby Rin’s shoulders. Also she gets the thing that makes Dolphin Sex so Shirou can do Unlimited Blade Works which it’s never really explained all that well but it hurts and it sucks so of course they gotta give it to Rin. Also Kiritsugu gets yeeted out of the Einzberns because he fucked up so his daughter’s just gonna live in the castle for a few years until she can summon the hulk and die anticlimactically. Waver’s the only person with a full arc in this story so he decides to go travel the world and become a better person and shit so that’s nice. Kiritsugu’s still like ‘It was a calculated risk but man am I bad at math” and passes his terrible ideas onto Shirou so we can repeat this again with slightly fewer people dying next time so that’s the good end I guess. This immediately kills Kiritsugu and Shirou is just like “I’mma take that as a sign that I should keep doing what I’m doing” after watching this vague misguided poorly thought out attempt to wave a wand and fix everything choke the life out of this man he’s just like “Yeah let’s try it again but with less murder” and there we have it, one full route of Fate done between this and UBW, considering Heaven’s Feel essentially doesn’t exist because it’s not streamed anywhere and Fate has CGI dragons that everyone tells me are terrible, guess I’m onto the side stories next, haven’t decided between Extra and Apocrypha yet I’ll figure that out later this week, hopefully one of these series’ won’t leave me scratching my head at the end.
Bakemonogatari: This episode is really weirdly paced, it’s another one of those “Hitagi and Araragi circletalk for 50-75% of the episode” deals. I mean their circle talk is fun and all but it doesn’t help that everything goes so fast I feel like I’m watching Gilmore Girls in a different language. Basically Araragi fought with his little sisters on mother’s day because his mom likes them better and now he’s pouting about it and Hitagi comes to cheer him up by saying she owes him a favor in the most sexual tension inducing way possible. But yeah they dance around this for a long time but the general gist is Aragagi doesn’t want anything from her because that’s weird and she can’t do things normally anyway. Meanwhile while talking about his problems with gradeschool girls there comes another gradeschool girl with a giant backpack that looks like Birdomon from Digimon got run over by a truck. This is Mayoi and she’s basically like any grade school kid in a show about teenagers ever which means she’s a stubborn brat and Araragi trying to help her ends up accidentally beating the shit out of her which Hitagi hilariously walks in on and gives him this weird scum of the earth look for the rest of the episode. Anyway not much happening plot-wise but they’re gonna go help Maiyo get to where she wants to go for some reason because I guess Araragi just has to put himself into other peoples’ business because he’s that kind of guy and also something about Snails or something.
Sailor Moon Crystal: We continue the season climax from last time and my god does this show drag these out, I much prefer the early-season character development stuff to this thing where they drag out the planet about to be destroyed for three episodes. Dimande’s about to destroy the world by crossing the streams so Sailor Pluto ZA WARUDO’s him but also it kills her because you’re not supposed to do that so why did they give her the power to do it idk. Anyway they get the crystals back from Dimande and Pluto’s death turns Black Lady back into Chibi-Usa because the lesbian feelings of a 900 year old 12 year old are complicated. It also makes her transform into a Sailor Guardian which I kinda forgot she hadn’t done before just because of how common it is to see Sailor Mini Moon in her outfit in art and stuff. But yeah, there’s still a Planet about to Majora’s Mask the whole place and Sailor Moon tries to stop him with her moon beams and then Dimande tries to stop them with his eye beams and then Dimande gets fried and then we’re back to Moon Beams again and Death Phantom turns into Andross from Star Fox 64 and we’re inside the planet talking to a floating head which is pretty final bossy I guess. I just feel like it’d be more interesting to have the villain be a dude, guess we don’t want Sailor Moon just murdering a dude though so it’s better to have her murder amorphous blobs of darkness. There’s even a line where Sailor Moon’s like “I won’t let that shapeless ball of evil do whatever he wants with the Earth!” and I’m like that’s it, that’s the whole show summed up.
Durararax2: We pick up where we last left off with Celty getting decapitated which is kind of funny because apparently the Russian Assassins that were hired to off her so they could abduct the girl she was hired to find and protect didn’t do ANY research into hr aside from being a magical motorcyclist since they see some of her tricks on video but have no idea the other name people call he is “Headless Rider” instead of just Black Rider, like half the people of Ikebukuro could’ve told you decapitating her wouldn’t work. Anyway I like these Russian psychos, one’s basically a dude that’s just shouting questions you type into Google at random and the other’s a stoic walking Wikipedia article so she can answer all of his questions. The girl at the center of all this ironically, a Yakuza heiress with some sort of connection to a disappearing talent agency president maybe, is ironically already at Celty’s place being taken care of by Shinra after she tried and failed hilariously badly to assassination Shizuo. Mikado still has Masaomi’s ominous yet vague warning on the brain but agrees to take Aoba out again since if he doesn’t, Aoba’ll get alone time with Anri and this is still a high school story on some level after all. Celty goes on about how she’s leaving her ordinary life behind and jumping into the extraordinary and I’m just like girl you are a literal dullahan who’s best friends with a possessed sword, a dude that breaks all his bones to be able to throw cars around and several gang leaders, I think we left ordinary behind a while ago. Anyway turns out the Dollars have been supposedly picking fights in another territory and it has the Tiger gang worried so Mikado’s looking into it and also Anri’s about to get home invasion’d again, this is like what the third time?

Ask Explo--
Tumblr media
...you know what, you’re right. Name change effective immediately.
Askplosion #10:
(unrelated to everything by the way but I DEMAND THE ANON WHO MENTIONED “REMARRIED EMPRESS” A WHILE BACK COME FORTH AND ANSWER FOR THEIR CRIMES. IT’S SO GOOD BUT IT’S UNFINISHED AND I’M HOOKED, HOW DARE YOU)
Asks responding to previous posts:
Tumblr media
It’s okay! I figured that was what it was but it’s been so loooong.
Tumblr media
Ah, wow.
Um, that’s definitely not a part 2; I think that’s more like a four-parter/five-parter or something.
Sorry! No can do!
Tumblr media
That’s totally fair!
I think the reason I so quickly agreed with it is like--
I’ve been watching the Inuyasha sequel and it’s not like I don’t think the narrative’s apparent punching bag Moroha (who is fourteen years old) shouldn’t be punished when she does something wrong/sneaky/manipulative, but they punish her as if she’s Miroku (who was eighteen years old).
Basically, I want the punishment to take the age into account, or at least only affect Marinette on a more personal level and not be “Heart Hunter” where they take totally understandable feelings of heartache (remember, it wouldn’t have mattered which miraculous she took because Hawk Moth got the Miracle Box and Fu regardless; even beyond her emotions, I feel like she chose the best option available to her considering which temps she knew the location of) and then punish her for them by memory wiping Fu and taking away all of her temps and giving Hawk Moth the grimoire translation.
Tumblr media
Yes!! I really wanted to respond to this one, thank you! (It’s this one and then there was another one talking about Luka and Adrien, then talked to me about how I refer to Luka as “soft” but not in a bad way; I unfortunately don’t remember the whole thing.)
Ahaha, and yeah, I feel you. Anti-salters are a very strange conundrum I still haven’t figured out; like, I get not liking salt, but...
I mean, when I don’t like certain content, I just blacklist it. If I end up seeing it anyway due to cross-tagging or a lack of tagging, then I just blacklist the person themself. You won’t see me going after people for that very reason; I only see what people send/ask me if it’s content I don’t like.
I’m glad you’ve found some peace in this blog! Hopefully it continues to be that way for you in the future!
(and yay, a fellow INTJ!!)
New Asks:
Tumblr media
There are female writers? ;P I just assumed they were all locked in a closet until the male ones were like, “okay, pretend to help us here, we need one female writer to claim girl power.”
As for Ladybug all like, “Cute, isn’t she?” I think it was rhetorical (she could also be messing with him but “Glaciator” tells us that she didn’t know he crushed on her so who knows). The writers do this thing where Marinette is all panic-y and occasionally self-conscious as herself, but then as Ladybug, she suddenly gets a bit of an ego. I think it’s meant to be there in order to make Chat Noir look less... idk, “obnoxious” when he starts boosting his own ego; trying to balance the two by giving them both big heads, so to speak.
Tumblr media
Honestly, I feel like Adrien needs less screen time. :|
Even when he’s not on-screen, characters are usually talking about him, or you see his face in Marinette’s room/somewhere in Paris. I’m become so jaded by the guy that I don’t even think it’d matter if they remade the series and gave it a “totally good and interesting Adrien.” That’s how badly the show has made him out for me; “Adrien Agreste” the character is just... sigh, I’m so done with him.
And yeah, this whole idea about, “Marinette is [x], we need more AAAAAADRIEN!” comes off really bad, lol, especially when Adrien has very little going for him.
Tumblr media
(this ask ends off like there should be a part 2 but there isn’t one in my inbox, so sorry if there’s meant to be something else!)
The exact lyrics according to the wiki:
My wish for a cat who's in love, with our own Ladybug. Is that he'll get what he's always wanted! She doesn't know she loves him, only sees Adrien, But Christmas miracles always happen!
Yeah, especially nowadays, those lines bothers me. Not only does it imply “true selves,” but that it’s Chat who should be getting what he always wanted and Ladybug is the one with a problem.
Like, excuse me?
Tumblr media
Probably Stormy Weather, even in the first episode. Ladybug and Chat Noir couldn’t even touch her until they arrived on top of the TV station.
+ With all those effects and shots, it made it feel more action-y than typical episodes.
Tumblr media
Marinette, Aurore, Luka, Anarka, Jagged...
basically any name that I haven’t really heard before (”Luka” makes me think of Vocaloid but the Luka there was female), or a name that relates a lot to the character (like “Aurore” for “aurora” since she loves weather things).
Tumblr media
dfjbghfkdgfdgnjfdg this anon really like, “I NEED ANSWERS!!!”
It’s as if these characters hit 18 or something and just grow overnight, I swear. I’m hypothetically fine with some more variety in character height (it’s not like the show tries to be realistic, after all), but maybe don’t give us official heights if they’re gonna be this weird/inaccurate.
Especially when they change it just for the sake of a shot anyway. If you watch “Simon Says” when Ladybug and Adrien stand next to each other while looking at the picture of Adrien’s mother, the very next close-up has an obvious difference in their heights from what you just saw.
They’re 3D models!!! This shouldn’t happen!
Tumblr media
I... honestly never thought of the “less threatening” thing! Dang!
And yeah, Marinette isn’t helpless or incompetent, but because of the Adrien crush, it makes her that way at times since she’s always falling on him and--
...ugh, actually, yeah, don’t wanna think about those implications. Hard pass.
Gross.
Tumblr media
I’m not familiar with that one, though Astruc deletes his tweets all the time (there was one tweet where he confirmed that Luka was poor and it only exists in screenshots now because it didn’t get archived and he deleted it almost like he realized that he was pointing out the blatant classism in the show, oops).
Yeah though, I haven’t seen anything like what you’re describing. Sorry!
Tumblr media
It’s okay! Sorry for having you clarify but him choosing and Marinette deciding to never give it back are very different things.
I don’t recall Chat Noir having much purpose in the final fight (in terms of both contributing and actual fighting; I know Cataclysm broke the object to release the akuma but was it needed?) so Marinette might either go cat-less or get a temp. Plagg could also be helpful in his own right because he’s small and blends in with the night, so he could hypothetically sneak up on the bad guy.
Afterwards, there’d need to be a new cat, but Adrien would also have to reconsider his actions and really think about what happened. I could also see Plagg going to Adrien’s house, half to apologize for giving the idea to Adrien that Adrien leave without telling Ladybug, but also half to call him out for giving up without consulting anyone. Adrien is a lot of conflicting things (see Adrien’s passivity compared to Chat Noir’s recklessness) so he’d have to find a middle ground within himself.
Marinette might carry Plagg around in her purse for a while and let Plagg have a say in who he goes to. Plagg might grieve for a bit over not having Adrien around (even if Adrien was flawed, Plagg didn’t ask for any of this so Marinette is doing her best here).
Tumblr media
O-oh.
That’s always the rough patch with “endgame ships.”  Once it’s obvious to the audience that they’re endgame, no more effort needs to be put into them.
The other thing too is how Kagami, for example, is friends with Marinette. Even once Adrimi sinks, she’ll presumably stay friends with her. Luka, meanwhile, is Juleka’s brother.
They have lives outside of their love interests. Adrien is so into Ladybug that he doesn’t have that; I mean, Nino is Adrien’s best friend like once in a blue moon.
Tumblr media
The entire class is just watching an episode and then calling on raised hands to answer what was wrong with what they just watched.
“Everything?”
“I mean, yes, but I’m sorry, you have to be more specific to get credit.”
Tumblr media
I think Aeon herself is fine. It’s mostly just her transformed and that transformed name that I have a problem with (she doesn’t even look uncanny so I don’t get it). I heard there was something wrong with the name “Aeon” but searching the name doesn’t give me anything I would qualify as such so I have no idea. I just wish she was given a little less “I’m programmed to--” (makes her seem less sentient) and more “[anything that doesn’t have to do with pushing the love square]” because I feel like they might’ve done the latter to make her more “likable”? I think fans of anything usually like the “matchmaker” character provided it’s for a ship they like. Also strange that they make her a robot but Max and Markov don’t extensively interact with her, but that’s a nitpick and not a criticism of her character.
...I’m rambling, my bad lol.
(Ohhh, she was supposed to be a mummy? Like, foreshadowing her “dying”?? That went right over my head but I guess that’d be where the name Uncanny Valley came from? No clue.)
Tumblr media
Best case scenario is probably the middle or the end of Season 4.
And yeah, it really doesn’t matter to me what they do with the love square. Marinette had gone through too much suffering and the show goes out of its way to show how much stress Marinette is being put under (and also keeping Luka away during episodes like “Gamer 2.0″ even when it makes sense for them to be there, as if trying to make sure Marinette doesn’t have enough moments with him to forget Adrien).
Like, ah, yes, I totally believe that Marinette is in a position where she can make reasonable decisions about her love life while all circles of her life are on fire.
Tumblr media
If the Sonic movie of all things can have an interracial couple, there’s no reason why this show can’t, just saying.
And, even with Marinette, she’s white-passing (according to what basically everyone says, I’m really awful about recognizing race so this isn’t my field; I wasn’t aware that Ondine was Asian, for example).
Does Nadja count? Manon’s dark-skinned (I’m still not over the fact that all the kids in this show are dark-skinned; it’s not like it’s a problem from a representation standpoint - though all the kids are also all generically bratty/whiny so there’s that - but the percentages in this show are weird) while Nadja is really light-skinned, meaning either a dark-skinned husband or Manon is adopted.
Though I guess the problem then is that we don’t know, so there’s no established couple there.

w-who gave you the right to say such things????
Tumblr media
Uhhhh, that might be too broad of a question, I’m sorry!
I know this isn’t satisfactory, but I will say that my favorite genre is Fantasy/Romance (it’s why I adore Red Shoes so much; by the way, an anon asked for my opinion on that a while back and I will get to it! I’d need to watch it again to get screenshots) and my least favorite is probably Tragedy/Horror.
Tumblr media
I don’t think I’ve watched enough to really be able to say? I’ve kind of been all over but I’ve never fully gone through any of them outside of Miraculous. I’ve seen bits of Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew, Star VS the Forces of Evil (don’t know if that counts), and I meant to watch Yuki Yuna is a Hero but never got around to it. I saw the entirety of Puella Magi Madoka Magica but you guys know how I feel about that one.
Maybe Cardcaptor Sakura by default then? It was definitely not perfect but I liked some of the character dynamics (I also have a clipcut of it - basically where I go through a series/movie and cut out parts I don’t like so it’s only good stuff - so I’m cheating a little) and the male love interest was a tsundere type that I actually ended up liking, which is really rare.
Tumblr media
!!! That sounds sweet~ I know Sailor Moon is popular so I’ll definitely take your word for it on that one.
I would also accept a “reincarnated”/”destined lovers” trope if maybe the ship themselves are the one who set it up in the first place. I have a Lukanette AU, for example, where they basically got together and then prayed to the shrine of the renewal god that they’d “always be together,” which ended up allowing them to reincarnate over and over (as if they set up their own soulmate AU ;P) and continuously find each other.
Though I guess that’s not technically a “meant to be trope,” but still, it’s a form of it but where it was totally consensual on both sides.
Also, I finally thought of a show that ended with the ship I wanted: Gargoyles. I didn’t see the entire series, mind you, but I saw most of it and Goliath and Elisa were just... quality, I adored them.
+ With Beauty and the Beast being my favorite Disney movie, they fit right in with my tastes.
Tumblr media
I forget that AangToph (I think the “official” name for the ship is Taang, but don’t quote me on that) exists sometimes, maybe because I’ve never shipped Aang with anyone; I’ve got no problems with the ship though.
Ugh, and this is what I mean when I talk about people who set up these reasons behind people shipping something based on what they saw a few people do. It’s like, “you only ship Adrimi/Lukanette to spite Adrienette!!”
Meanwhile, me having shipped all three at one point and then dropped off the love square.
Also, me shipping Zutara has nothing to do with it being dark/edgy because I’ve never seen it that way (intriguing, sure but dark and edgy? lol) and also avoid dark/edgy ships like the plague.
I still laugh at people who are like, “you can’t ship it because it’s not endgaaaaame!” as if shows can dictate how and why I enjoy something. Like sure, if you want to let a show/movie spoonfeed you how you’re supposed to feel, then by all means, go ahead.
I suppose people may be theoretically happier that way, but it doesn’t make for an analytic mind.
Tumblr media
I legitimately thought that “AssClass” must’ve been the actual name for something until it registered with me what it actually meant.
And eh, I guess it depends on the comparison and how accurate the comparison actually is? Like, comparing Puella Magic Madoka Magica to Miraculous... they’re not really close at all, but comparing... idk, Bunnyx to Homura or the concept behind “backfiring wishes”... maybe?
-
(note that the rest of this post is more Puella Magi Madoka Magica salt so you can stop reading here if you’re not interested in that; I’m not sure if this is all the same anon but I don’t mind letting people vent so I let them go off~)
Tumblr media
why can’t we just have nice things
I agree, and I give a little eyeroll every time it’s like, “oh, this person had [miraculous]”
+ even just in general, I feel weird about any show that mentions/implies that real world famous people are [x] or [y] in their show. It breaks my immersion; real world locations are one thing but when it’s specific people (unless they’re made up characters like Santa Claus) or games just--break me.
I also don’t know what to think when there aren’t magical boys but you have these magical girls in this frilly outfits/skirts. The demographic is girls so I presume the reason must be like, “you can look pretty and still beat people up” (;P) but having so many magical girl shows without a hint of a magical boy makes me suspicious that it’s for fanservice. Sailor Moon has Tuxedo Mask but I also don’t know what that guy did outside of the meme of him doing nothing so I’ve got no clue.
(edit: I should correct myself that I’m not talking about Sailor Moon specifically; I don’t know magical girls that well, though I do know there are ones clearly intended for fanservice (you could say that for anything, to be fair, but still). It’s just that I see things like super short skirts or very “questionable” shots and I’m just like, “hm”)
Tumblr media
Hmmm, good question. I feel like there has to be a lot but I’m also the type who doesn’t watch a lot of TV lol. I’m just familiar with cliches and tropes and such.
Tumblr media
The reason I try not to use “ism”s of any kind is mostly because it’s too broad. Like, you know how the English language only has one way of saying, “I love you,” but other languages like Spanish have multiple?
It’s like that, and sometimes I think it’s too easy to throw those words out there. A “small” (possibly completely unintentional/misunderstood) offense is sexism, and then a “large” offense is called the exact same thing. I’d rather go into why something is sexist than just call it that, y’know? The only exception I make is “classism” because I feel like that’s not as... I dunno, divisive?
Anyway, for that same reason, I can’t answer firmly that, “Madoka Magica is sexist.” I will however say that it makes me uncomfortable with how the show makes out the girls being emotional because they’re young and female and then proceeds to make their life a living hell before they’re old enough to properly answer to it (I know that’s the point but that kind of makes it worse?). It doesn’t help with how all the girls have different personalities, so it’s not like you have only “crybaby girls” who are being taken advantage of; it’s basically like... all girls.
Not helped is the fact that their soul gem not only deteriorates naturally, but it can also do so faster if the girl falls into despair, which then turns them into a monster (and I know it’s kind of like an akuma thing, but the fact that it’s only girls is... I dunno, it comes off wrong?). It seems cheap that the soul gem deteriorates no matter what so it constantly needs fed even if the girl is consistently happy.
I would probably opt for the show being centered more around Kyubey being new to this or something - like, magical girls are a new thing - and then have Kyubey being surprised because they presumed that the soul gem would deteriorate naturally since “emotions are powerful but destructive to the person having them,” but then all the girls team up and help each other work out their problems. Maybe the reason magical girls are usually alone isn’t even because of the grief seed (I think that’s what it’s called?) thing not being able to be shared, but because Kyubey intentionally separates magical girls so they can’t do what the main group is doing, but Madoka is so into the idea that, “We shouldn’t have to be alone,” and so she’s constantly pulling all the girls together, which keeps them healthy.
Maybe Homura’s backstory could be that Madoka originally was more sheepish and more afraid to put herself out there, especially since she was a magical girl (who are encouraged to go it alone), which is why their soul gems were both deteriorating; they were friends but kept more of a distance, or maybe they were a team but that’s all they were. Then Madoka gives Homura the last grief seed to save her and that’s what inspires Homura and makes her see Madoka as something more than a teammate, which is why Homura actively tries to save Madoka specifically (which then encourages Madoka to want to keep everyone together as friends).
In the case that Kyubey doesn’t separate them out of concern of fRiEnDsHiP, but for another reason altogether, and then it’s ultimately their own downfall when they allow the girls to hang out and realize that it’s doing a lot of good for them.
Tumblr media
“cute and innocent”
That was exactly it. It’s on Kyubey’s trivia section on the Puella Magi Madoka Magica Wiki.
Before the anime's first dark plot twist aired, head writer Gen Urobuchi said on his Twitter account that the "Kyu" in Kyubey's name comes from the English word "cute". This was a lie meant to further mislead fans into thinking that Madoka Magica is an innocent happy show. In a later episode, it was revealed that "Kyubey" is, in fact, short for "incubator".
In my personal opinion, a spoiled plot can’t be “ruined” if it’s a good plot. If you told me that Kagome was trapped in the Modern era for three years and then decided to stay with Inuyasha at the end of Inuyasha, it wouldn’t/shouldn’t decrease the value when I finally see it for myself because it’s good. That’s not to say that everything should just be spoiled right out of the gate, but it’s saying that maybe your plot isn’t good if you have to rely on shock value to make it work??
Tumblr media
I FEEL THAT “ASSIGNING IT TO THE WHOLE GENDER” THING SO BAD. It just adds to my “the girls all have varying personalities so it’s not like Kyubey’s only after emotional crybabies or anything” salt.
I have no idea about any of the stuff about the writers so I can’t confirm or deny them. I will very much agree on the target audience thing though, especially with the whole “keeping the dark plot a secret” because really? Who is this for then? Like, the first two and a half episodes are for one demographic and then the others are--???
I dunno. Me personally, I just like feel good stories. I do like some good conflict and drama (for context, Remarried Empress is basically a webtoon that gives you things to feel salty about and then makes its own salt fic as its plot, allowing for endless streams of feels and catharsis, so I’m definitely not against drama), but there are other times where I just want to feel good watching something.
I feel like the show expects the characters to be selfless/perfect and then punishes them even though it’s their writing that’s causing them to act out. I can’t really talking about “out-of-character” but sometimes it’s just obvious where “we did this because we needed a plot/conflict.”
Like, hello? We don’t need the main characters screwing up; why can’t we just have some feel good thing where they take the day for themselves (seriously, imagine a Miraculous episode where Chat Noir actually tells Ladybug to take a couple days for herself, like maybe someone else gets the earrings for a few days as a temp while Marinette gets to breathe; IMAGINE IT). Not everything needs to be high-stakes to be interesting and you need those calmer moments so that the action-packed ones feel more intense.
Tumblr media
SAYAKA DESERVES BETTER.
I feel like the magical girl genre as a whole can be way more complex than it’s made out to be. I think people hear the word “magical girl” and think “cute girls in short skirts talk about girl problems and fight evil with the power of friendship and accessories.”
Ugh, just the mention of Rebellion makes me sigh internally.
Congrats on working on your own magical girl story! I hope it goes well for you!
I know it’s not technically a magical girl show, but there was also Totally Spies that Astruc worked on to some degree (I think there was some characters who were based on/a loose reference to the mains from that show but I don’t remember exactly).
The thing about the female characters suffering is that they could make for good lessons on positively directing one’s emotions (like Usagi from Sailor Moon, for example, maybe having a problem with taking her anger out on her friends, but learns that she can save that rage for the bad guys; “Gamer 2.0″ from Miraculous could’ve done that, honestly, by having Ladybug absolutely WRECK all of her gaming opponents in “violent” (cartoon violence obviously) fashion). It’s just a shame that it’s not taken advantage of.
Tumblr media
Sayaka??? Selfish???????
*does not compute*
(Also, I wasn’t tired of them, don’t worry! It was a little overwhelming in my inbox but it’s me who’s allowing all the asks to flow in so the blame isn’t on you lol.)
I’m not sure where this obsession came from with, “you have to be selfless and you’re not allowed to use your powers for yourself.” It’s like the world’s going to end if a character leaves to go Self-Care or something. I think what happened is that shows got this idea that promoting only the giving of others is great and it’s not important to take time for yourself (even with “Gamer 2.0,” it was still Marinette playing games with everyone else, and they treated her dedication and seriousness like a bad thing when she literally did not have time to waste and they didn’t give a reason why it was good for her to take a break, only that she should).
This usually leads to the “demonization” of characters who sport a lot of self-confidence or any sort of ego. It works on both sides; Marinette is a punching bag because of her anxiety and occasional lack of confidence, but if she had an ego as Ladybug, there are parts of the fandom who deem her “obnoxious” (i.e: “Reflekdoll”). There’s a delicate balance between “be confident” and “be humble” and it’s a tightrope act.

Oi kip, give us your Zelda Mallory takes
How I feel about this character:
LOVE SHE. SHE WAS LIKE THE BEST OF THE BEST IN HKU. SHE WAS THE BEST OF THE BEST AND WE LOVE HER FOR IT. Unfortunately she recently found out that she was the best of the best and it got to her head and now I’m like ;-; Mallory plz do you hear yourself
All the people I ship romantically with this character:
I’m not really hardcore into Zavis/Zelda, but theoretically with the right author it could work. Don’t really see it happening in canon though. But also Zelpha is always a win!!
My non-romantic OTP for this character:
THE IMPA AND ZELDA FRIENDSHIP BREAK HITS SO HARD GET THOSE GIRLBOSSES BACK TOGETHER PLEASE :CATSCREM:
also Zelda and Link for obvious reasons. I need these pals to intereact more in hku pspspspspspsPSPSPSP LINK GET BACK FROM THE GARRISON ALREADY
My unpopular opinion about this character:
OK I WAS GOING TO JUST PUT SOME STUFF ABOUT HER CHARACTER IN RECENT ARCS BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I JUST REALIZED NO ONE EVER TALKS ABOUT THE FACT THAT SHE BASICALLY LIED TO SIV FOR LIKE A YEAR LIKE I KNOW THE WHOLE CONVO IN GERUDO TOWN WAS IFFY, BUT SHE WAS LIKE, PLANNING TO RELY ON THE TERRAKO PLAN FOR YEARS AND THEN WHEN SHE FOUND OUT SIV’S LIFE WAS PRETTY MUCH HINDERED ON HER AND HER POWERS SHE JUST LIED AND IGNORED IT LIKE YES, OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A POWER DYNAMIC HERE BECAUSE SHE IS A WHOLE ASS CHILD, BUT ALSO LIKE, HOW MANY **MONTHS** DID SHE PULL SIV ALONG BECAUSE SHE WANTED SOME UNCLE DUDE TO VENT TO WHILE ALSO LYING ABOUT TRYING TO SAVE HIS LIFE. WHAT DID SHE DO TO TRY AND SAVE SIV THROUGH ALL THOSE MONTHS??????? HELLO???????? SIV HAS ALL HIS PROBLEMATIC SHIT DONT GET ME WRONG BUT SHE REALLY WAS LIKE “I’m not gonna tell the guy who’s entire life is in my hands that I have no plans about doing it nor any idea how to find an alternative but I’m just gonna let him continue thinking that it’s fine because he’s fun conversation GIRL. LIKE AS SOON AS THAT YIGA HIDEOUT HAPPENED AND SHE WAS LIKE “I was gonna find some other way!” WHEEEEEEEEEEEEREEEEE???? THAT IS A LIE. STOP PIVOTINGGGG. JUST ADMIT YOU DIDNT HAVE A PLAN JUST ADMIT YOU WERE TOO SCARED TO LOSE HIS FRIENDSHIP. LIKE YOU EVER THINK ABOUT HOW SHE NEVER *REALLY* APOLOGIZED FOR ALL THAT? YOU EVER THINK ABOUT HOW NONE OF SIV’S TIES EVER REALLY APOLOGIZED FOR THEIR ACTIONS??? LIKE DONT GET ME WRONG ZELDA IS MOSTLY IN THE RIGHT ESPECIALLY IN THE SITUATION IN THE YIGA HIDEOUT ARC BUT ALSO I FEEL LIKE WE DONT TALK ABOUT THE SEVERITY OF THIS TIE ENOUGH. SCREAMING
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
mallory can you, uh,,,admit when you’re wrong? and change for the better? instead of digging in?? and stop using your pass experiences as an excuse to value your view over others? and maybe also get a sword sometime soon because yes ok thxs
my OTP: I honestly have NO IDEA. Like Zelpha is so good, but do I consider it an otp in hku???? idk idk, maybe just zelda x good mental health
my cross over ship:
zelda x real life, wassup girl. hey. ;)
a headcanon fact:
Ok this is a bit of a two parter headcanon but I known Aryll makes plushies in canon, but I believe Aryll also ships plush commission and Zelda commission a horse plush from her named Tophat.
