#they don't like my relationship on any level
Note
Hi, could i request Alastor x reader where one of them does something nice/gives something to the other not realizing that in their culture it's equivalent of courting/proposing? And since the other is in love with them, they don't mention the connotations and it takes someone else to point it out for them to realize? :)
Going to be honest, I wasn't sure how to write this one, since I'm white and to my knowledge Alastor's a Creole man from 1930s, so I wasn't sure what from either of those cultures could be mistaken for a proposal. After doing some research I'm going to tweak this ask a bit, simply because I am not entirely comfortable representing other cultures that I am not a part of and only have a few hours worth of google research knowledge of. I'm sorry if that's not what you wanted. If you or anyone has more specific traditions to use as examples, I'd be happy to try and expand on the idea.
(Or reinterpret this as like, flower language, gift giving symbolism by pagan standards, or crow language. Which not gonna liez my ADHD ass really wants to write a crow sinner giving them weird random stuff they find that they think the others would like.)
Anyway, I'm going to do things you'd do for each other that make you both wanna get married. Hope that's ok!
Alastor
It's not so much a single thing you do, but more like there is a single moment where he realizes he wants to marry you. And to be clear, his idea of marriage is going to be based off of what he grew up with and his own personal level of comfort with romance and intimacy (remember folks, aromantics have a spectrum as well and can get married and have perfectly happy, functional, healthy relationships and marriages).
It's probably not even a big grand gesture or anything. It's more likely something domestic and really sweet. Like it's post the finale fight with Adam, and he already knows he's getting attached because he let you help him get patched up. He lets you in his room, his space, and being touched by you is as easy and comfortable as it is with Rosie and Niffty, who have pretty much a free pass whenever.
Yet you're still always so respectful of his boundaries, of giving him subtle ways to avoid or redirect your touch if he's not feeling up to it. You never push, chosing to take what levels of affection he's willing to express but always letting him know you love him, and this last small thing is the thing that makes it click in his brain.
You bring him his coat, newly patched, cleaned of any trace of blood. The stitching is a little sloppy, crooked, and the fabric isn't lined up as well as it used to be, but you tried. He can see the effort and knows you spent hours holed up in your room after patching him up.
"I know it's not perfect, but it'll hold until you feel well enough to visit your tailor again." You say timidly, as if you expected rejection or critique. And while criticism wouldn't be unwarranted, he's just too emotional to say anything. His smile is gentle, a little wobbly, and he reaches out and brushes the coat aside to grab hold of you and pull you into a hug.
You're just so sweet and considerate, you understand him. He's not going to change, he doesn't want redemption, he thrives off the bloodshed and chaos of hell, but at the same time he's still just a man. And he wants you to be by his side for eternity, if he you want that too. He's never thought of marriage before but now...now he can't stop. He wants to have that with you. Domestic life, something to come home to.
He won't say anything right away, he wants his proposal to be perfect. He's going to have Rosie help him plan this every step of the way, but regardless, one day, you will be his partner.
As for what your moment with Alastor is, I think it entirely depends on what you value most in a partner. However, a general consensus I've seen in most of the fanfics and tumblr posts is the idea of Alastor showing us a softer side.
Not just showing us that he's more than a serial killer and cannibal with his own sense of morality. More than just feeling comfortable enough to let us initiate touch, hut genuinely letting us see past the Radio Demon persona.
Maybe it's by cooking for us and talking about how he learned the recipe from his Mama, which leads into him slowly opening up about her, how much he adored her. What she meant to him.
Maybe it's him and you at the bar in the hotel or in his room, sipping drinks, his jacket off, sleeves rolles up. Letting himself be casual and in a compromised state around you. Maybe he'll even take your hand and spin you across the dance floor like he used to with Mimzy. He doesn't even care if you're not that good, he can teach you, practice makes perfect, he just has fun with you.
Maybe it's a moment where he let's you touch him. Or seeks you out for help because he knows you won't say anything. Or if he humors you and flirts back when you tease him. Or let's say he has a tail and he doesn't snap your head off for accidentally touching it as you go by. Or he agrees to watch a movie with you or listen to a podcast despite how he feels about technology.
Maybe it's just a quiet night, sitting next to each other, each reading a book, his radio playing softly for background noise, and you look up to him to ask a question or say something and he's already watching you, a small, adoring smile on his face.
Take your pick of which one is the moment where your heart stops, your breath catches, and you realize that you wanna marry this man.
And then your delulu ass wakes up, lol.
Decide for yourself if you'd go through with a proposal or if you just accept how things are.

So I'm suffering from life threatening levels of Perturabo brainrot and got a lil scenario idea stuck in my head while I was taking a shower: One of the serfs that does mundane housekeeping tasks throws all self-preservation aside when a curious little contraption Perty made catches her attention while she's tidying his quarters. It's a harmless trinket he made in his spare time, a clever little puzzle box, and she can't resist the urge to get a closer look.. Cue Perturabo catching her touching things she shouldn't be touching. He feels a flash of anger, but its quickly doused by the look of genuine wonder and awe at something he made simply as a mundane time-waster between campaigns. When she notices him in the doorway staring(glaring) at her, it's like being doused in ice water and she hurriedly sets the trinket down and apologizes profusely as she scurries away. Over the next few weeks, Serf quietly fears for her life due to her impropriety.. While Perty decides he wants to see that look again and sets about making a little courting gift - a music box that plays a lullaby/tune that is popular on Olympia.
Sorry if this is way too specific, you can change whatever you'd like about it to fit your tastes!
PS: I love your writing style so, so, much. Thank you for all you've created and shared with us 💕

Author's note: I like the idea! I changed it a teeeny tiny bit, but only because I didn't want it to run on into a massive block of text. Enjoy, here's some Perty meetcute.
Relationships: Perturabo/Fem!reader
Warnings: Not really any other than Perturabo's attitude
Tumblr media
Returning to his private workshop Perturabo can tell by the door being slightly ajar that someone is inside cleaning it, and opens it fully to let himself in. Out of his armor he's wrapped up in clothing more suitable for the cool evening, walking underneath the dimmed lights.
He's always hated bright rooms; The few windows in this room provide enough sunlight during the day to work, and at night to keep it bright enough to work but dim enough to avoid a headache.
Not long after entering he notices your form in the corner, picking something up off the floor. He pays no mind and walks past, completely ignoring your presence other than that momentary glance. He's seen you before; You're usually the one cleaning the innermost parts of his chambers like this workshop. Perhaps you're the only one brave enough, and the only one that hasn't gotten thrown out for being in his way.
Sitting down the chair creaks in complaint but he ignores it, leaning forward over his desk. For awhile he simply glosses over his designs, old and new blueprints with a lack of interest, before his eyes wander away from it all. They're all just improvements for already existing war machines, nothing that keeps his attention for long.
He sees you now working on cleaning an area close to where some of his smaller projects are sitting, collecting dust, but he can tell as you clean one in particular has caught your eye.
It's the old puzzle box he had made when he was far younger; It's simplicity makes him scoff now in shame of his less experienced hands so long ago. Though even then, it far exceeded what anyone on Olympia could dream of making. Perhaps that's why it caught your eye, a stand out among little automatas, music boxes and miniatures.
He sees you looking at it, curiously gazing over the pieces that interlock together. It seems like you're trying to figure it out in your head rather than picking it up and risk his anger. You don't notice his gaze on you, his brow still furrowed but not in anger- deep set eyes hooded in lazy curiosity.
Once you either give up trying to figure it out or realize you need to return to your work you turn away from the box, but your sleeve accidentally catches on the sharp edge of the metal. It shifts and falls off the table, thinking that you're moving it as if attempting to solve it. You uncharacteristically swear, and snatch the box out of the air before it hits the ground.
You look at Perturabo momentarily and see him watching you, and he can see you swallow the knot in your throat. Your back straightens as you look away and towards the puzzle box in your hands, fingers brushing over it as you make sure it's unharmed.
With a grunt of effort Perturabo gets up out of his chair, and he sees you noticeably freeze up at the fear of his approach.
"You're supposed to turn it."
You look up at him surprised for a moment, before looking down at the box again. It's large in your hands, he'd scaled it for his own, but you're still able to fiddle with the mechanisms with little issue. He watches your eyebrows raise as you gain understanding.
"Oh, I see."
He hears the soft clink of one of the mechanisms inside unlocking- he knows there's four left. Your eyes are locked on it trying to figure out the system, and he can see you're making progress, faster than he might've expected you to. He doesn't stop you because of it; He's curious how far you can get.
You stop about halfway to figuring out the next part, and slowly go to place it back onto the shelf where it had been collecting dust.
"I think this would take me quite awhile to s-" Perturabo jerks his chin slightly towards you.
"Keep it."
You look at him wide eyed, and pull back from the shelf to continue holding it in your hands.
"It stopped amusing me long ago."
You thanked him for it, with a soft and sweet smile that made his nose wrinkle, and you got little more than a grunt in response before you finished your duties and left him in silence.
You returned the finished box to him three days later, opened. Perturabo, amused by it, had plucked another puzzle box he'd made in one of his moments of particularly sour moue off a high shelf, and handed that one to you. You'd returned it six days later, solved.
You had detoured from your assigned tasks to return it to him, and left shortly there after. Your hands had barely closed the door behind him before he pulled out a fresh piece of parchment and started to draft a new one, the first he'd be making in many years, something finally keeping his mind busy as he glossed over his old and forgotten creation to make this new one.
He had noticed your tiny fingerprints on the metal one time he'd looked up, pen stopping for a moment as he stared at them before returning to his work.
Tumblr media
He's not here today, you notice.
The workshop is empty, though you aren't entirely surprised. The Iron Blood left port this last week, and you assume Perturabo went along with it.
What is surprising is that quite quickly you notice that there's something set out on his desk, in clear view. There's parchment being weighed down by it and you can't help but take a look, having to near climb from how high the tabletop is.
It's yet another puzzle box, you quickly realize. You pull the parchment with it and read the few words at the center of it.
This one should keep you entertained for awhile.
That's all it says, sitting the parchment back down and turning your full attention to the box instead.
It's significantly more ornate than any of the previous ones he'd given you, and still smells of oils and greases presumably from it's recent creation. The puzzle itself seems far more in-depth than the previous ones as well, and you can't help but smile at the realization that he's trying to stump you on purpose. Your fingertips brush over the etchings of symbols and the decorative grooves; He clearly spent a lot of time on this one.
You hold it close before sitting it down, and get to work cleaning. You keep a consistent schedule in this room so there isn't much to be done, and once you finish you're able to take the puzzle box back to your personal quarters and begin figuring it out.
Perturabo seemed to spare no expense in figuring out how to make this one more difficult, having to do puzzles to figure out parts of another puzzle. It takes you well over three weeks to figure out, slowly working at it between your work.
Once you crack it open, you're so excited you barely even realize there's something inside, pulling out the folded parchment. When you unfold it, you notice something that falls into your lap. A necklace.
You weren't exactly allowed to wear jewelry, it got in the way, but you suppose if it came from Lord Perturabo, none of your superiors could complain.
Putting the necklace around your neck you read the words on the parchment, pursing your lips. Your cheeks feel slightly warmer as well, realizing that you're holding something the primarch crafted specifically for you, and now you have not one, but two handwritten letters from him.
Perhaps they're quite short letters, but you count them anyways. Lord Perturabo has never been the wordy sort.
Meet me in my workshop the day the Iron Blood returns to port.
You wonder if Perturabo has always been this roundabout and obtuse. Or if he's for some reason toying with your odd knack for puzzles. You suppose he's bored, he seems to have plans for abandoned ideas all around his workshop. Bathhouses and ornate buildings, unfinished and pushed aside for efficient weapons of war.
You're glad you managed to open it before the Iron Blood returned, but just barely; Two days later is when it- he, returns, and you meet him in his workshop.
He turns to you, wearing lighter clothing given the warm weather. The sun is just starting to set however, the sky turning orange and purple. You notice he's grown a slight bit of stubble on his jawline since returning, and that his expression is surprisingly relaxed.
"How long did it take you?"
He says with not even a hello. Though you suppose you don't really need one.
"I finished it two nights ago. Just barely made it, it seems." He chuckles, much to your surprise. It's a deep rumble you can feel in your chest, and makes you swallow at the feeling of your heartbeat up in your collarbone.
"It seems they'll need to be even more complicated in order to slow you."
You notice his eyes look away from your face and down to your collarbone. The necklace is what caught his eye, you can only guess. you've been wearing it nonstop since you got it. His hand reaches down to grasp the pendant that hangs from it between his two fingers, before he lets it go moments later.
You wonder if perhaps it meant something a bit deeper than what you'd thought at first glance. He wouldn't just give out such ornately made things for no reason. Your face grows a bit warm at the sudden realization that you'd completely overlooked the implication of a man, a primarch, giving such a gift to a woman, but Perturabo either doesn't notice, or doesn't care.
"Sit with me. And tell me your name."
There's a chair beside his own that is similar in size to his own, though vastly oversized for you. You sit down in it and pull your legs up onto the chair and curl them to your side. Then you put your hands on your lap and look towards him and start talking, beginning into a conversation that leads well into the night.

If Elriel isn't endgame, then what is the point?
Speaking from a purely narrative and writing perspective, what would all the Elriel scenes have achieved character wise or story wise?
To build tension for Elucien? There is already plenty to work with if SJM wanted to go that route, Elain dealing with losing Grayson and gaining Lucien with one blow, Lucien being part of Elain's trauma which she acknowledges to his face, coping with a mating bond that she doesn't understand and doesn't want but feels a pull to...prime material that SJM has not capitalized on. (I can't think of any reason Elriel would serve Azriel/Gwynriel in a build up to their relationship.)
Instead of building little scenes like she has for Elriel, she sent Lucien away (to another woman to boot!). I've stated before that if Elucien was endgame, 100% it would have been Lucien that figured out Elain was a seer. It would have been so easy to include that, it's not even a romantic scene but it speaks to the connection between characters especially after Madja stated a mate would know what's wrong. If there was any other scene, that needed to between Elain and Lucien to convince their endgame, it was this one because then you're left wondering why did Azriel know and Lucien didn't, especially since Lucien has the bond that gives him insight to Elain on another level than anyone else?
The same could be said for Gwynriel. It would have been so easy for her to set up scenes for them if that's the route she was going during ACOSF, even a crumb of what Elriel has gotten would suffice. Once again my main sticking point for Gwynriel like Elucien with the Seer revelation is Azriel not caring enough about Gwyn in the Blood Rite. Siphons flashing doesn't speak to any other feelings besides being upset equally at all 3 women he knows and trained being in danger. We can compare to how Azriel reacted to Elain being kidnapped, which around that time, Az had spent the same amount of time with each character and did not have the same reaction.
All of SJM's relationships have served a point or fully run their course. An interrupted kiss is not a culmination or a end to a relationship being set up. If Elucien/Gwynriel happened, there would always be the what if. What if Rhysand didn't stop Azriel hovering in the background narratively. What if they had kissed? What if they had been able to pursue the relationship? SJM's other relationships have been allowed to explore this possibility so you know when they end up with other people, you don't question whether it worked with someone else or what ifs because you know because the relationship was allowed to run it's course and ended because of internal factors.
What paused the relationship growing between Elriel was an external factor, not an internal one. Internally, Azriel and Elain have no reason to stop having their feelings because nothing has happened between them to stop it, if anything they are exacerbated more by being denied and haunts the characters narratively (And Azriel in story).
But again, what's the point? What would be the factor narratively that Elriel would have served for both Elain and Azriel, especially since it's left unfulfilled?
There isn't one unless they are endgame and why it would be bad writing if not. This is one of the big factors that convince me about Elriel 100%. You don't just throw in these scenes between two characters as filler or background noise and you definitely don't leave it open ended if you are planning to pursue other options. Narratively, that's unsatisfying and poor set up if an author plans to move forward somewhere else. It means something and there's only one road that it all leads to.

Hello there!
The first thing that I wanted to say was that today is my birthday! 🎂
It's irrelevant, but anyways... I read an earlier post, and I wanted to make an early birthday request.
Can I please request general headcannons of Headphones from the Splatoon manga? (Platonic/Romantic.)
She's my favorite, and apparently, she is 21 in Splatoon 3, so that's a cool little detail.
Sorry if this was made a little late, I have a lot of work to do, and I won't be able to make the request period tomorrow.
Still, I appreciate you reading this. Thank you, and have a good day/night!
Happy (really) late birthday! Sorry I never got to this immediately, I hope you can take it now :(? Hope you enjoy :D! I haven't started Splatlands so this is just a general concept where you're both at least 18.
Yandere! Headphones Concept
Pairing: Platonic/Romantic
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Obsession, Overprotective behavior, Manipulation, Jealousy, Stalking, Social isolation, Clingy behavior, Dubious Companionship/Relationship.
Tumblr media
Headphones is down-to-earth and one of the most reasonable members of Blue Team.
She's serious like Specs while Goggles and Bobble Hat are often goofy and carefree.
However... she's often easily worried and easily intimidated.
Later on she's more determined and confident but can have her moments.
On her team she's usually the long distance player, specializing in Splat-Chargers and Squiffers.
She acts like an older sibling of the group, often looking out for everyone during battles and other adventures.
Maybe for this concept your bond starts with you being part of Blue Team.
You aren't a main member, but you are childhood friends with them.
If one of them can't make it to a Turf War or Ranked Battle, you'll step in.
Headphones looks after you when you're one her team and off it.
If she can't be near you in a Turf War, she invites you to watch.
If she isn't in a battle, she takes some time away from her team to hang out with you or invites you to join her and the rest of your friends.
She seems like she'd always be overprotective with you.
Even when you're all adults now.
I don't imagine Splatoon yanderes are all that intense to write. (I'm known to keep things as close to canon as possible)
But I can imagine some petty things happening between rivals.
Especially if two Inklings/Octolings are put on opposite teams.
For example, since Headphones sees herself as such a close friend to you, she'd get into fights with friends you have on other teams.
You'll be in a Turf War with a friend from another team, only for Headphones to target them the whole time.
I mean... even if you're just watching she's ruthless.
That's the most I can see Splatoon rivalries going without going into darker and OOC territory.
Headphones would do really petty things if you're too close to others.
Like, she's normally really level-headed... but I can imagine her being passive aggressive.
Headphones tends to like music, she'd probably listen to the Squid Sisters with you.
If you had any music you liked she'd do her best to listen to it.
Sometimes hanging out with one another just includes listening to music and talking.
If you two were on opposite teams in a Turf War, she'd want to go easy on you.
If she can't then she checks in with you after the battle to see if you're okay.
Now while she gets jealous of you hanging out with other friends on different teams... she will defend you if anyone tried to harm you in anyway.
For example, maybe someone like Emperor or Vintage is a bit too harsh on you?
Headphones quickly steps in to defend you, even if you didn't ask for it.
No matter the intentions, she really defends you and your happiness.
She wants you to have fun and she wants to (hopefully) be the cause of such happiness.
Although, you could say that her attempts appear to isolate you.
Her being so protective and jealous of anyone near you but Blue Team harms you more than helps you.
Headphones may not even realize what she's doing is bad.
She's... just so used to looking out for others since you all were young.
She forgets you're all not children or teens anymore.
By the time her obsession peaks you're all adults.
Yet she still treats you like a kid she has to care for.
Her obsession definitely doesn't happen on purpose.
She doesn't even acknowledge it half the time.
She wouldn't do anything like kidnap (Squidnap...?) or murder.
She's more like... an overbearing friend.
It doesn't matter if she sees you like a sibling or even has a crush on you.
She's unintentionally suffocating even when she's oblivious to it.
The times she does catch herself is when she finds herself following you around.
Specs notices this and asks about it, which makes Headphones pause.
Yeah... why does she keep following you around?
Is she really that worried about safety... or is it something else?
Maybe deep down she worries you'll move on from Blue Team... maybe you'll move on from her and your other friends...
That would give some sort of explanation to the way she's been so hostile towards friends you make from other teams.
Don't even get me started on how she feels when she learns you have a crush on said other friends.
She will slowly isolate you without needing to lock you anywhere.
After all... you both might be unhappy at such an arrangement.
But... on the other hand...
She'd do anything to keep her most precious friend, right?
Overall, Headphones isn't violent or anything... but she is smothering and overly concerned.
Her obsession may very well come from the fear of you moving on from her and leaving Blue Team due to growing up...
So she plans to stick with you for as long as she can... she doesn't plan on leaving you or letting you leave. Ever. No matter what it takes.
"What do you mean you want to meet up with other friends...? I already made plans with you! Maybe another time... or I can come with?"

Well dang. Talk about reaching on the parts of everyone who looked at Obi-Wan and Dex and thought "oh, that's obviously the exception to the Jedi rules!"
My understanding for the longest time has been that the "no attachments" rule is basically "think rationally when it comes to shit you end up caring about". Anakin Skywalker, Dagan Gera and Bode Akuna are cautionary tales about people who weren't able to do that.
It's not just "think rationally about the things you care about" to me, it goes a little deeper than that. All three characters you brought up have certain deep-seated fears and traumas that led to their inability to let go of something. Anakin lived the first nine years of his life as a slave, Bode went through Order 66, and Dagan dealt with the threat of the Nihil and that thing they were unleashing on the Jedi that was killing them in a horrific way with zero explanation.
The no attachments rule is about learning to recognize when your fears causes you to cling to the things you care about because you're too scared to lose them for one reason or another. No attachments is about recognizing when your fears are controlling you to the point that you're hurting other people and even yourself. No attachments is about understanding where this feeling comes from and being willing to face your fears head on rather than making excuses for your choices.
It's not just "think rationally" but "look deeper" and "really understand who you are and why you're reacting the way you are to things in your life" in order to even be ABLE to then think rationally.
The point of characters like Anakin, Dagan, and Bode is to see that they have really sympathetic reasons for why they get scared and react the way they do, you're supposed to relate to that fear on some level and recognize that the fear isn't entirely irrational to begin with. But their REACTIONS to the fear is what ends up irrational because they usually aren't willing to actually recognize that fear for what it is or they use the fear to justify causing pain to others. No attachments is asking people to make the harder choice.
There is no fear involved in Obi-Wan's relationship with Dex. Not that we ever see, anyway. No attachments obviously doesn't forbid emotions of any kind, it doesn't even forbid fear, or forbid ACTING on those emotions. No attachments just says to look deeper and understand yourself well enough that you can be ABLE to think rationally about your emotions and your reactions to them so that you don't cause harm inadvertently or let your fear control you to the point of becoming selfish and greedy. Obi-Wan's friendship with Dex has none of this, it appears to be a perfectly normal, healthy friendship. There's nothing in it that anybody in the Jedi Order would take issue with.

Shine A Light Into The Wreckage
Chapter Six - Bob's Place
Bob Floyd was many things. He was an instructor at Top Gun, a lover of Tolkien books and a huge fan of coffee. But Bob was also clumsy. That was how he bumped into the table, knocking her drink onto her notebook. He felt bad about it. Bad enough to come back time and time again, in the hopes that she would be there. And, every time, she is. Each time looking a little worse for wear. It doesn't take Bob long to realise he has to save her.
2.1K
Warnings: Abusive relationship! Abusive hair pulling! Abusive choking! Forceful sex! Domestic abuse! Seriously don't read if you're affect by stuff like this! Talks of stalking (but in a non serious manner), talks of non consensual groping. THIS ONE IS HEAVY WITH DOMESTIC ABUSE THEMES RIGHT FROM THE GET GO, she gets called a whore, choking
Because of the level of the things in this one, if you'd like to skip the domestic abuse part, please skip the italics at the start of the chapter. The italics are only there so people have the option to skip

As soon as they were hidden from the view of The Hard Deck, hidden behind the cars, Ken let go of her. He released her shoulder with a not very friendly shove, sending her to the floor.
She pitched forwards, falling to her hands and knees.
Bob sped up his steps.
"You fucking whore," Ken spat as she wiped off her hands and got to her knees. As usual, Ken wrapped her hair around his hand and pulled her up. At the whimper that left her lips, Bob felt his blood boil. But he just couldn't get to her fast enough.
"Ken," she whimpered. "Please."
Again he pushed her to the ground. This time, as soon as she hit the tarmac, his foot connected with her side. He only kicked her once before he had her on her feet again, twisting her arm behind her back. "You think you can leave me, huh? Run away with some scumbag navy pilot?"
Neither of them knew that Bob was there, that he so desperately wanted to get to her.
But then Ken shoved her against a car and wrapped his hands around her throat. Bob stopped. He couldn't risk getting any closer, couldn't risk him snuffing her life out before his very eyes. As much as he wanted to go up there and punch him, he couldn't do anything, not without putting her in danger.
And then, Ken released her. He pushed her to the floor one last time. "Sleep out in the hall tonight," he said and, literally, spat. Suddenly Ken was over her, searching through her pockets as he searched for her keys.
Once he'd found her keyes, he climbed into the car he had her against while she stayed on the ground. He slammed the door shut and her body visibly flinched.
Ken pulled out of The Hard Deck parking lot. For an anxiety inducing second, Bob thought he was going to drive over her, but he backed up and drove away.
As soon as he was gone, Bob ran over. He dropped to his knees beside her, but even that had her flinching away. "Hey," he said softly and used his gentle fingers to move her hair away from her forehead.
That was when he saw she was crying, but it wasn't all that surprising. "Bobby," she croaked through a gasp, her hands wrapped around her stomach.
He'd done all of this because she'd gone for drinks with friends. What would he do if he knew that she and Bob had kissed.
"D'you think you can get to your feet?" He asked, voice soft as he took her hand and started brushing the gravel away from her skin.
She closed her eyes as she nodded her head. "C'mon then," he said and helped her to her feet.
As soon as she was standing she grimaced and reached for her neck with the hand that wasn't holding Bob's. "I should've left my phone at home," she mumbled, voice barely above a whisper. "He tracked me through my fucking phone, Bob."
There was a moment where Bob didn't reply. He checked her face, gently moved her head from side to side as he checked her neck.
He couldn’t help the way he pulled her in after that. He tried not to squeeze her as he kissed the top of her head. A bold move from a shy man.
Suddenly she moved away from him and patted her pockets. "Fuck, Bob, he took my keys."
Bob knew, but he said nothing. "Let me take you back to mine," he said and took her other hand. He inspected it just the same, brushed away the gravel and looked at the scrapes and bruises. As much as he wanted to kiss away her pain, it wasn't going to help in that moment, and Bob knew it.
If she didn't want to go back to his, he was at least gonna get her to sit while he pressed ice to her sore neck.
She gave a slow nod, but even that had Bob worried about her neck. He took her hand and gently led her over to his truck. The truck he'd driven all the way from Montana. It was a hell of a drive, but it had been worth it to have his truck with him.
Bob held her hand as she climbed into the passenger seat of his truck. It was only when the dome light was turned on that he saw the state of her jeans. The knees were both ripped and ever so slightly bloody.
When she caught Bob staring, she used her hands to cover the scrapes. Bob couldn't help the sigh he released as he leaned against the side of the car. "Let me take care of you, please," he said quietly as he placed his hand on her leg.
She didn't make any indication that he could have moved his hand. But she did speak, voice bitter. "You're not my boyfriend," she said and folded her arms over her chest.
"Well, that guy shouldn't be."
It wasn't a shout, but his voice was certainly louder. Her eyes were wide, watering as she looked at him. "I'm sorry," he said immediately, his head falling forward. "I shouldn't have said that."
But then he felt her fingers moving through her hair. He should have been trying to comfort her, to take care of her, and here she was, doing that for him.
Bob gently removed her hand from his hair. Something in him wanted to kiss each of her fingertips, but he didn't. Not until she broke up with that awful man. Bob couldn't stand the thought of her staying with him. If he could have, he would have driven straight to her apartment and gotten her stuff.
He climbed into the driver's seat of his truck and began driving away. They sat in silence, the radio buzzing, not playing any music. It was a needed silence, Bob realised as he took the quickest look at her.
"I, uh, I hope you like cats," he said as he pulled into his driveway.
She looked up at the quaint little house. It was cute, with an incredibly well taken care of garden and a trellis by the White front door. It didn't look as though it should have been in San Diego, looked like a little country house. It just screamed Bob.
He climbed out of his truck and immediately moved around to the other side. Opening the door, he took her hand and helped her to step down, pretending not to notice when she winced.
He fumbled with his keys before he opened the door. "Frodo!" He called the moment they stepped into the house.
"Frodo?" She asked as she looked around at his house. There were so many pictures of those he could assume were his family. Pictures of his fell aviators and little model planes. His coffee table was so full but so neatly organised. He had a couple of little plants by his television and a Star Trek: The Wrath Of Khan movie poster on his wall to the right of it. On the left there was a book shelf, filled to the brim with a mixture of classics, comics and more.
Suddenly, a little black cat was running through the house. He ran straight over to Bob and rubbed his head against his head. "Hi Buddy," he said and reached down to scratch the top of his head. Frodo let out a scream, one that had Bob scooping more food into his bowl.
Immediately Frodo was ignoring them. He ran to his bowl as Bob took her hand and led her through the house. “I have a first aid kit in the bathroom,” he said.
Wordlessly, she followed. When Bob asked her to sit on the closed lid of the toilet, she did, watching as he pulled the first aid kit from the cupboard. He looked down at her, look at the cuts on her knees.
"Think you can step out of those jeans?" He asked and she did just that. She hissed as she stepped out of her jeans and left them on the floor, sitting back down with nothing but her underwear covering her lower half.
Bob got to her knees in front of her. He grabbed the antiseptic wipes from the first aid kit and gently pressed it to her knee. When she let out a cry, Bob couldn’t stop the way his heart lurched.
"Do you wanna know what Bob stands for?" He asked her, trying to keep her distracted from the pain.
She swallowed and nodded her head. "Talk to me, doll," he said, wiping away the blood around the cut.
"Yeah," she said quietly, leaning her head against the wall. "It... doesn't really stand for Baby On Board, does it?"
Bob let out a chuckle and shook his head. "No, it doesn't mean Baby On Board. That's just something Jake came up with because he's a dick. But it, uh, actually means Big Ol' Balls."
She let out a laugh, but it was quickly cut off by a hiss as he moved onto her other leg. "Bobby," she said quietly, quieter than Bob had ever heard her before. Rip his heard out and throw it to the ground already. Stomp on it a little if you had to. Anything would have been better than the way she said his name.
"Yeah, Doll?" He began, trying to make his touches as gentle as possible.
She grabbed his hand, the one that wasn't wiping the blood away from her skin, and squeezed. "I... I don't know what to do," she admitted, head falling forward.
Bob brushed her hair away from her face. "Leave him," he replied, his voice just as soft as her own. "He treats you terribly and I hate it."
But she shook her head rapidly from side to side, which couldn't have been good for her neck. (Bob grabbed her gently, stilling her movements). "You don't get it, Bobby." He tried to release his gentle hold on her face, but she kept him there. "My entire life is entwined with his. He controls the money, the apartment is in his name, and I drove off all of my friends because of him."
Bob was so gentle as he placed plasters over her knees and wrapped up her sore hands. It was a touch of kindness she hadn't felt in so long, she had forgotten what it felt like. She couldn't stop herself from leaning into his touch.
"Can... can I check your neck, Doll?" He asked, his hands resting on her legs. It was another one of those touches that had the potential to be intimate, but Bob was treating her with gentleness, kindness. The kind of touches that made her want to escape into his arms and never leave.
She swallowed thickly, her own hand reaching up. But she never touched her bruised neck. Instead, she nodded, letting Bob do all of the work.
Once he had her all cleaned up, Bob took her to his room. "I have spare pyjamas or old shirts, if you want them," he offered as he pulled back the covers of his bed.
She mumbled out her response and Bob grabbed an old shirt from the drawer. He passed it to her and began backing out of the room. "I'll get you some water," he said and pulled the door shut.
As Bob went to get her some water, she pulled her shirt over her head. She hadn't bothered to put her jeans back on after Bob cleaned her up. He'd seen her in her panties now, what was the point of covering up.
Leaving everything but her panties in a pile, she pulled on Bob's shirt (a star wars shirt, the picture on the front long since faded) and climbed under the covers.
Bob knocked on the door. He waited a moment before walking in to place the glass of water on the night stand. "I'll be on the couch," he said.
"G'night, Bobby," she whispered as she laid her head onto the pillow.
"Good night, doll," he said and pulled the door shut behind him, leaving her alone in his bedroom. Bob stood there for a moment, head against the wood of the door as he breathed.
He headed to the couch and laid down on it, not bothering to get changed. The moment he laid down Frodo climbed onto his stomach and settled there for the night. "I'm worried, Bud," Bob whispered as he scratched Frodo's head. "So fucking worried.”

You told no lies about the misogyny in the 9-1-1 fandom. Anytime one of Buck's ex-gfs left him, they were raked through the coals. However when Tommy leaves Buck on the curb after their date, the fandom makes excuses for him. Buck was wrong for lying to Eddie, but Tommy could have handled the situation better.
Overall I like Tevan, I just don't like the double standards. The fandom is giving Tommy so much grace compared to the women on the show and it doesn't sit right with me.
I feel you on some personal level. I really thought for a second that I was tripping.
Not only were they raked, anything they did was dismissed, stomped into dirt. Every romantic gesture was percieved as unimportant, manipulative, overshadowed by other bad actions from the character, or ignored altogether.
I really don't feel good being in this fandom anymore, I feel like I'm back to my teenage self, hating female characters because they are not worthy, not good enough, not perfect, they embarrass me, make feel less.
When I was a 12 year old kiddo, my misogyny strived on the notion that a woman will never be as valuable, she will never be an equal.
Men are equal to each other automatically. Men are allowed to be complex, to make mistakes, to have history and past partners, to have redemption arcs, to be morally grey and so on.
There's a person in my replies who was sarcastic about my thoughts on Tevan chemistry, they said something like "he was only in two episodes 😂, you can't make decisions of off that" as if I shouldn't judge at this point.
Like what the whole fandom does right now.
They have accidentally proved my point.A dude appeared for two episodes, and the whole fandom lost it's shit.
Tommy is given much more freedom and space by the fandom than any other LI.
And that's not even the end of it Buck has made a lot of mistakes in his relationships, as well as Eddie. We are willing to hear them out and give them other chances as we see their growth.
Some LIs were there to make them grow, but it doesn't mean the LIs didn't grow outside of these relationships and off screen.
I'm just baffled by the difference in the reception of Tommy and any other LIs.

"The Bad Batch" S3 Review- Spoilers
Alright guys, we made it. After 3 years of this lovely show, it has finally come to an end. I definitely plan on doing a review of the entire show and see where it fits with the other big animated shows. However, that will come after my Crosshair Character Study. For now, let's focus on S3. Like Season 2, I'd definitely say it's a solid 8.5/10 for me. Although, S2 might still be my favorite. I honestly think Rebels might be the only show that has a 9/10 final season for me. Look, I loved CW and Siege of Mandalore is phenomenal, but that Ahsoka arc was not it. The final season of TBB has so much I absolutely loved and so much I wished it handled better. So, let's jump right into it!
This season felt so different for me and I definitely know why. The story is much more plot driven than the first two. In the first two seasons, the Batch were more worried about survival and kinda just went on adventures all around the galaxy. The Empire really didn't know where they were so the stakes weren't as high. Crosshair himself was stuck in the Empire meaning he didn't focus on the Batch as much until they crossed paths with him.
S3, however, sees the Batch and Omega specifically being hunted relentlessly. They need to figure out what's going on or else they will never be free. This shift from the Batch galavanting around the galaxy to a more plot driven narrative does change things up. Looking back, I think the creative team just needed more time. S3 has so much going for it and there just isn't time to flesh out the ideas to their fullest potential. That being said, I am overall satisfied with everything they pulled off, especially Crosshair. This show has solidified him as one of my top 3 favorite SW characters and fave clone. He's so well-written and I adore him.
What I loved:
The atmosphere this season was so dark and I loved it. There was a maturity to the ideas and threat level that I honestly really appreciated. Just like Andor, TBB really demonstrates just how monstrous the Empire is. There is nothing that Palpatine won't do in order to achieve total domination and subjugation of the entire galaxy for all eternity. And Hemlock is right there beside him. That man's passion for his craft knows no bounds; it doesn't matter who's strapped to his table. It's so horrifying to think how Tantiss is probably just one of the many, many inhumane and monstrous things the Empire has running. TBB, like Andor, is peak Empire imo. If there was any doubt that this monstrosity could last as long as it did, these two shows erase it.
I also really loved the character relationships, particularly Omega and Crosshair. Their bond is so beautiful and reminiscent of ones I see in my own life. There's nothing Crosshair wouldn't do for her and it fits really neatly with who he is as a person. Omega brings out the best in him, just as she does all her brothers. This season really emphasized how much Omega's brothers have influenced her. Their lessons really come into play by the end of the season. To see her grow from a naive young girl into a mature (but still childish) teenager/pre-teen was beautiful.
Crosshair this season was everything to me. I could be here for hours talking about him. I was beyond thrilled with how they handled him. He has changed so much and this season highlights that growth in every way. Crosshair remains to be the best written character and nothing about him felt OOC. I loved his dynamics with the Batch and Omega. (The hugs were perfect)! I loved how his struggle was something he worked on the entire season; it wasn't just one and done. I love how the themes of trust were woven so perfectly into his story. Crosshair was perfect (I'll touch on the hand thing later). I couldn't have asked for more (except just give me more Crosshair. I will never be tired of him. I could watch a whole show of just him doing stuff).
I don't have a burning desire to punch Hunter anymore. Yay! But in all seriousness, I have developed a soft spot for him. As much as he got on my nerves in S1, I really do appreciate him a lot more. He does care deeply and has a lot he's struggling with.
Echo showing us why he's the ARC Trooper. Seriously, those scenes of him will always live rent free in my head.
Emerie! Really great character and very interesting.
*hides in a corner* Rampart.
The music and animation were phenomenal. Honestly, both were flawless. The music in particular moved me to tears several times. Props to the animators and Kiners because this is some of their finest work yet. That one shot of Crosshair catching CX-2's knife was outstanding.
I also loved the action, seeing the boys fight together, and final shot of the Batch + the epilogue. There is so much I adored in those moments and the rush of emotions I got each time. The epilogue was so personal and I might do a separate write up on it.
The themes of family and hope were also front and center and I loved every second of it. If anyone asks why I love TBB, it's because this is show about family more than anything. The Batch are a family and seeing them learn to be one is so beautiful. It means so much that Hunter, Wrecker, and Crosshair got to settle down together and raise Omega. It's just beautiful.
What I didn't like:
I wanted more deep convos. Whether it was because of a preference for action or time constraints, the writers just needed to have more deep character emotions and let them sink in. It's why "The Outpost" and Tech's convo with Omega are so well loved; they let us really be with the characters. I wish S3 had more of those moments because they make this show that much better. I just wanted more. And I know this show is capable of that. It sucks knowing what it could've been. So many moments could've hit more had they been given time to breathe or worked in a bit differently.
The way Tech was handled. Hats off for actually keeping him dead. I just wish we got proper closure on that 😐. Although Tech's death looms largely over the Batch, it feels like the writers brushed it off. Why didn't we get a scene of Crosshair learning what happened? I know the time skip implies they all processed Tech's death, but it still felt like something was missing. It felt like the writers expected us to also process it like the Batch and move on. Except, we're not the Batch. We don't know what went on in their heads because they're fictional. The audience relies on the writers to show us that grieving process and we don't get it. It also didn't help that it felt like they were baiting us with CX-2 at times.
Some of the plot lines being dropped for plot/time reasons. Look, I know that it's about the Batch and their journey on becoming a family. However, it felt like more was being set up and it might go no where. One thing I love about TBB in general is how it showed us how the Empire began to change the galaxy the moment Palpatine got what he wanted: total dominance. Clones began to take a stand. Talks of rebellion were already being whispered. I just hope that these storylines revolving around Rex, Riyo, and Echo don't wither away because TBB has ended. Or the Ventress thing. I know they said she'll be back but who knows when that'll happen. I also wanted to know more about the CX Program. That’s what fanfics are for, am I right?
The pacing was brutally fast. This ties into my points about the narrative being more plot driven and lack of time to fully flesh out ideas. It felt like there was almost no room to breathe at times because we jumped from plot point to plot point as each episode progressed. Don't get me wrong, TBB handled this way better than Ahsoka, but I just needed like two more episodes of the boys and Omega running around, ok?
Overall, this season just needed time.
What I am neutral on:
Scorch. Man was done dirty, but I didn't know who he was til this season. Sorry guys. Including him and not giving him anything wasn't a good idea imo though.
Crosshair's hand. I get both sides of the argument, I really do. First off, I'm a sucker for whump. I can't help it. Also, you can say that him losing his hand connects to him severing himself from Tantiss and the pain he went through. But at the same time, Crosshair's trauma isn't going to magically vanish by just chopping off his hand. If anything, it'll just add to the trauma. I applaud the writers for dealing with such a sensitive topic, but from a certain POV the hand chop is a quick fix to a storyline that could've had more substance with another season. I'm neutral on it because again, I see both sides of the argument. I think if we got more of a reaction from Cross, the situation would've been more clear (he was doing some crazy compartmentalization during the back half of the finale, let's be honest here).
Anyways, that's my review of S3 of TBB. Despite it's flaws, this little show still went out on a high note and I am very pleased with it. I love TBB with all my heart and I will hold it cherish it forever. Until next time everyone. I will still be talking about Crosshair and this show, don't worry. No matter what, I will never tire of this beautiful family ❤️

Hey there! It's been a while, but I'm the same anon that asked for advice redesigning the Aerialbots (still haven't gotten around to that...)! But I'm here to ask for some more advice, if that's okay...
I wanted to make a fanfic including Sunstreaker, but there's barely any canon content (specifically animated, which I watch the most) on him... any advice on writing him? You're the Sunny expert, after all... 💛
Hello Aerialbot Anon, nice to have you back hehe. I don't know about being the Sunny expert, all this just started with the brain-rot from @shyspider fanfics and fell into Lambo hell… But! I'm happy you sent in an ask and will do my best to help!
I've been thinking hard about how to answer your ask. Since I'm an artist, I spent a lot of time designing how he looked and worked his personality into his finished design. Writers don't have the luxury of just adding visual cues though, so I scratched around in my head and made up a quick list of the main points I kept in mind that might help you figure out what kind of Sunstreaker you want.
Tumblr media
When he manages to show up in canon, he's usually a narcissist and very difficult to get along with, so I made him very confident in his looks and very good at his job while being dismissive of people who don't outright impress him.
I wanted him to have more than one dimension, so I decided that he bases most of his worth around his appearance and competence. He's a little jaded and belittles those around him because he doesn't want attachments that can hurt him later. (Also, I made him sarcastic and difficult to get along with in contrast with Sideswipe as the "friendly" twin.)
He's used to, and dislikes, superficial relationships. Sunny is always getting surface-level compliments and so he's numb to them and actively avoids them. That scene in Guardians of the Galaxy where Drax said "beautiful people never know who to trust"? That's Sunny.
Looking at this list, my Sunstreaker is essentially a beautiful but aggressive shelter cat.
Of course, all of this is just for my interpretation of Sunstreaker. Yours might be a bright-eyed sparkling or a pretty-boy assassin, or a battle-hardened old coot with loads of scars. Who knows? With so little canon content for the mech, he's almost a blank slate, which can be a little daunting to work with.
If you can find a fanfiction with Sunny that you like, or even a similar character to get ideas from, that'll help too... I hope I went into enough detail and that this can help you out?
Feel free to drop by my inbox any time if you have any more questions or just want to chat~

Hiiii!
I just wanted to butt in and say how much I love your hinny fanfics especially the once’s set in hbp. (I’m not going to say how many times I have reread them, it’s too embarrassing 🙈) The way you write them, the banter and chemistry!! Honestly sometimes it feels like I’m eavesdropping on someone else conversation because you make them seem so real. I love the pinning. :)
It’s fun to read about how tortured harry is and how he feels ‘normal’ and not under so much pressure when Ginny is around! I have a suggestion if you don’t mind (ignore this otherwise and accept my apology <3). I would love to read something you about Harry pinning over Ginny while she is with Dean and see his thoughts. The monster in his chest! I love reading about the early stages of their relationship it’s so cute! Or something like that
I hope you have a wonderful day and I hope you know that your writing is spectacular!!
Hi anon!
First of all, thank you so, so, so much for this! It literally made my day! The idea that anyone re-reads my fics makes me so happy, I can't even explain 🥺🥺🥺
And now I fear I must disappoint you 😭 I've tried writing this prompt three different ways, and I can't make it work… I very rarely explore Ginny's relationship with Dean until they're broken up and there's a reason for that (I hope you're ready for some less than complimentary takes about my two faves): Both Harry and Ginny use Dean as a coping mechanism.
Ginny stays with Dean way longer than she should, to an extent it's almost out of character for her. Why? In my opinion, because if she breaks up with Dean, she has to deal with something that's increasingly staring her in the face, the fact that Harry likes her, and despite all the work she's done on herself, she still wants to drop everything to be with him. It's an uncomfortable realisation for someone as independent as Ginny.
The sheer force of her feelings for Harry is a lot for her to accept, and it's easier for her to just stay with Dean who, while nice, inspires no such depth of emotion. It's not fair to Dean, but it's a self-preservation tactic that Ginny appears to be subconsciously committed to throughout HBP.
Now, onto the reason I'm struggling to write your lovely (and appreciated) request. Harry James Potter, number 1 avoider of emotions, actually finds the Dean relationship very convenient tbh. Do you know who doesn't have to deal with their ever-increasing feelings for their best friend's little sister? The guy whose best friend's little sister has a boyfriend.
There's a large section of HBP after Harry sees the Dinny kiss (and the chest monster is born), where Ginny lingers at the back of Harry's mind (and in his dreams) but he never really consciously dwells on his feelings for Ginny. Harry isn't ready to face it, and he doesn't have to because Ginny has a boyfriend.
It's only when Ginny and Dean break up that Harry starts to panic, not that Ginny won't reciprocate his feelings, only that Ron will be mad. It's one of the reasons I love hinny as a couple… on some level they both know. Even when neither of them want to haha.
Harry never views Dean as an obstacle in canon, because really he's not (sorry Dean, I still love you). I think he probably had very fleeting moments of envy (I wrote about Harry not liking Ginny wearing Dean's West Ham jumper 😅), but I don't think Harry believes for a moment that Dean is competition (I did write him having a little crisis of confidence about Dean post sectumsempra incident in FAIY, but that's really just Harry looking for ways to make himself feel bad because of his guilt). Dean is just a convenient reason for Harry not to deal with a messy emotional situation.
Really, is it any wonder Dean smashes that glass?
Anyway, apologies for the essay, I do really appreciate being sent prompts and I wish I could fulfil this one to your satisfaction! I hope someone with a slightly different hinny interpretation than me might be inspired by it ❤️❤️❤️

Tom's line about Shiv being selfish and "find[ing] it very hard to think about me" is actually so telling because while it's absolutely true that she rarely takes his position into consideration, Tom never once thinks about what he can do to help Shiv unless it also benefits him.
Every single time he makes a move or sacrifice that might help her, it's always something that he thinks will give him a leg up. He volunteers to take the fall for cruises, not for Shiv, who is in no way implicated, or even for Waystar, but because he thinks it'll ingratiate him to Logan, and the second it seems like he might have to actually follow through on that, he immediately tries to get out of it and even throws Shiv under the bus. Meanwhile, for all that Shiv disregards his interests, there are a number of things she does that only help him, and she's the one who actually sacrifices something and undermines her position with Logan to beg him not to let Tom go to jail.
It just makes it so clear that no matter how much he might love her (and I think he does, in his own compromised way), for him their relationship was always built on the underlying assumption that it's her job to prop him up, but it's not his job to help her.

whats ur beef?
My favourite manga lost the plot so now i cope by being a hater 👍
#long answer is i have beef with the direction that the bsd manga has taken#it only superficially resembles the beloved mystery and character-driven detective agency story with atsushi as the main character#i'm dissatisfied with major developments like killing off fyodor and reviving him and pulling this#PSYCH his ability wasn't what you thought it was. with zero foreshadowing or buildup#because the manga has become full of marvel-movie type plot twists that serve little to no coherent narrative purpose except shock factor#it cheapens the story and it cheapens the development of characters and it cheapens the reader's experience#because we can't speculate and we can't draw connections and parallels and engage with the story on a deeper level#what connections there exist (for example between manga and anime) are shoehorned in after the popularity of the anime and#specific characters (e.g. fyodor who was shoehorned into untold origins in the anime) and mostly the characters who bring in money#i.e. fyodor and dazai and chuuya and their relationships especially soukoku. all this at the expense of characters like atsushi or#the majority of the female cast. who have been MIA for god knows how long and who were barely given frame each in the anime's finale#bsd treatment of its female characters has been subpar shounen level at best and now they're completely sidelined#as with most of the original cast and the original themes of the story. in fact i struggle to identify a coherent overarching theme#for the current arc. other than military action scifi movie go brrrr#compared to early arcs where each chapter had a meaningful message to say about the importance of living and what it means to stay alive and#keep going and why we are fighting to keep important people in our lives and to keep ourselves alive#and what it means to belong somewhere and what it means to be good or bad and how your place of belonging affects that#as a long term reader i just feel betrayed and disappointed. by how a story with complex and vibrant characters has become another#generic cashgrab shounen. and i mourn for the lost potential it had and everything the series has build up#only to have plot points abandoned at a whim.#so that's why i'm a hater now 👍#i know a lot of my bsd mutuals are still big fans of bsd so i try not to be obnoxious about it and mainly keep it comedic#like i don't actually hate the manga. because it's so important to me. and i respect the creators of the manga and anime#but it's frustrating to watch a train wreck in real time. and it's my blog i can hate what i want 😔#sorry if there are typos i wrote all this on mobile and can't edit the tags. i didn't wanna put any of this in the main post

truly i did not appreciate the fruitiness of futari wa (and max heart) when i was younger. because it's like. you and i couldn't be more different, but i want to know you anyway. loneliness was my best company before i met you. if i were a guy, you'd definitely be my type. this handmade charm you gave me may as well be jewels. i doodle you in my notebook. it's okay if you need to hold my hand too tightly sometimes. no i can't act, but these are the words of romeo to juliet and i'll say them to you like they're from my own soul. the thought of you in danger has me scared out of my mind, but the need to save you pushes me past all my limits. i know you'll come for me. please never scare me like that again--what would i do with myself if something happened to you? always we get stronger when we grow closer. no this isn't going to be easy. i can't protect you from pain but i'll go through it with you. you're my greatest strength and my one insurmountable weakness. i would rather you kill me than raise a hand to you. you're the most important person in the world to me. i love you i love you i love you.

Alright, the jack in the box is wound, and the coherence is coming to me. Halsin and the dryad, I was talking about his response if the PC indicates that he is most comfortable after a supper large enough to induce hibernation:
"Mindless gorging...? No, that is not right. I did not realize you thought that of me."
And why this keeps catching in my mind is not necessarily what he says, but how he says it (so I am commending Dave Jones' voice acting here). The rest of Halsin's responses to incorrect answers are generally even toned and corrective; firm, usually, but not inherently overly emotional. Much like a teacher correcting a student. But this one...he sounds genuinely surprised and taken aback that the PC would even suggest that. The "no, that is not right" is even firmer on its heels. And the last part...the last part, his voice is smaller. Less forward. I would not go so far as to suggest hurt, but it is approaching that territory. It comes so fast after his firm no, that it almost sounds like something that slipped by accident. Like something that was meant to be muttered under the breath, but it slipped from him because the surprise was so organic.
Alone, it doesn't mean too much. It's a slight offense to an obviously nonfactual statement. And that's likely all it is. I'm about to read too deep into this, I am aware.
But combined with the other things spread throughout Halsin's dialogue, particularly the implication that he is otherwise used to people making commentary on his physical appearance or the physicality of his being, it suggests an extra layer of hurt. An extra layer of: "I did not expect this from you, of all people." Not quite a betrayal, but approaching one.
What makes it particularly catching, is that one of the things you are able to wrench (and I say wrench because getting Halsin to share mundane personal details about himself is a production - and it makes *sense* it's a production if a. We keep in mind that Halsin himself doesn't seem all too sure who he is beyond his preoccupation - which elves are prone to but Halsin also just has...a lot on his plate that have evidently stunted his identity formation - to the point where he even claims he was forgetting who he was, and b. If he is used to questions concerning himself and his experience leading into questions regarding his sex life or his physical activities, see: the companion banter with Wyll and Karlach, he likely...doesn't really keep ready details about himself personally on tap anymore. He's so unused to people being interested in Halsin, that he's taken aback when they are. It becomes the "In the moment, I forget everything and anything I like to do for fun" mentality - no one really cares about what I like to do anyway - if you will. He even goes so far as to joking that the PC may be a doppelganger because *why else would they want to know these things*) out of Halsin when you ask him about himself is that he has a sweet tooth. That he likes honey, and people find that amusing. He chuckles, but his face falls, evidently prepping for the PC to make a similar comment (and he attempts to beat you to the joke about that, though a PC can still call that "on the nose" to which he responds that there is little point in denying oneself if it doesn't hurt anybody - indulging isn't a bad thing). If the PC instead chooses that he should pay little attention to what others think, he gives that infamous: "sometimes I think people look at me and imagine my feelings can't be hurt" line. Which implies - regardless of whether he verbalizes it or not - things in this thread hurt his feelings. Comments or assumptions about his body and his person hurt his feelings. He won't say it, but they do. The PC is likely aware of this by this point in the relationship.
Halsin does not otherwise bring up eating or food to any level of significance or directness - the sweet tooth comment was the only time (you could assume outside of canon interactions that they've had other conversations between them and that perhaps this was brought up, but we are going to base this solely in what Halsin reveals in canon). He brings up hibernation, but specifically the sleeping part of it. Nothing else.
So, the PC then potentially goes ahead and makes an assumption of him during the dryad. How'd they arrive at this conclusion, as it obviously surprises Halsin that they did? It reads, very much, that the PC is making this assumption based on the comment about his sweet tooth, his comment on indulgence, and his physicality (note: the ha ha bear and hibernation thing almost seems like an afterthought - Halsin latches *very* quickly onto the "mindless gorging" part). All things that he has shown very evident discomfort (which is ironic because the question is when he feels most comfortable) or hesitance towards (he claims there is nothing wrong with indulgence, but never seems to indulge himself beyond sex, if that. Gee, what does that remind you of?)
Halsin entrusted this individual with this information, as frivolous as it was, potentially revealed that it hurts his feelings when people make assumptions of him, and this individual then went used that information and made the assuming connection: "So, this is a big man. He said he liked sugar, so he must like to eat and indulge. It must be his favourite thing to do because look at him." I am going to essentially ignore everything else I could have possibly heard, and make a bear hibernation joke that has nothing to do with sleeping being a comfort, but emphasize the eating part.
So, yeah, he's a little taken aback - incredulous, you might say. A little hurt. Resigned, almost. Because at that point, you can make a very logical assumption that Halsin came to a very quick snap realization that perhaps this person was not so different from the others as he thought. That it always eventually comes back to that. What else was he expecting? When has it ever been any different for him?
#BG3 Musing#Halsin Posting#does this make sense i don't think it does but it's like...jumping from a - z based on assumption and you know what they say about that#note: this isn't actually this deep i am just making it this deep - also yes i'm aware it probably means none of this#i have a degree in bullshit#but this is also why halsin should have had a legitimate bear like build of a body#i understand why he didn't - but this is *verbatim* what fat individuals receive as assumptions on their person#*all the time* that oh you must overindulge yourself you must eat a lot you must you MUST#and in that thread of thought of halsin's relationship with his body#there's also something to say when halsin says 'my ears are all yours...any part of me is yours should you wish it'#because he *begins* by offering his sympathy and understanding...but follows it up with 'but if i am more valuable to you in this way#then that's fine too - i'm used to that'#almost parallels (inadvertently) astarion's:#'i think i'll enjoy having halsin around not for his wit or wisdom he'll just make an excellent shield if we're attacked'#he's self aware#and in regards to how halsin sees his body as a separate entity - a. body dysmorphia and b. i don't think he truly does#halsin claims he sees his body as a vessel to serve nature and wrinkles his nose at vanity - but i feel there is enough old hurt in him#that this can never be true of him even is he so desperately wishes it was#does he have a level of confidence in himself? obviously he does - but it is marred - it's an exchange#there's always going to be that little voice in the back
