My once-and-future fixation entangled with my current obsession during work today, and so, consider:

Post-Sunnydale, Andrew and Dawn are in touch in some way, and he talks her into reading Tolkien because he's sick of having no one to talk to about it anymore. Dawn finally gives in so he'll leave her alone, and she likes The Hobbit okay, and LOTR is better, and then she finds out about the appendices and her scholar/language learner brain kicks in.

And then she reads the Silmarillion without Andrew even having to bug her to do so, and he's Thrilled, and doesn't she just love the tale of Beren and Luthien? Isn't Turin's story just the best and worst thing she's ever heard of?

And Dawn would actually like to know more about the part where one of the protagonists from LOTR was apparently adopted by a centuries-old killer, and how exactly did that work, but she can agree with Andrew that Luthien kicks butt with her magic and her singing.

She eventually badgers Spike (who is alive and part of the Summers household through whatever circumstances) into also reading the whole shebang. Somehow, he never got around to it during the twentieth century, but he always meant to and now he has motivation. He is also quite interested in the adoption thing, and also in debating back and forth about the ending and whether it was possible for Maedhros and Maglor to be redeemed. Not to mention all the poetry involved.

He and Dawn definitely-maybe learn some Quenya or Sindarin phrases to secretly talk in front of Buffy about surprises or things that would get them in trouble. She comes to regard this habit with a kind of bemused tolerance.

Well... This was a sight she never expected to see. Sakura had to cover her mouth to stop herself from giggling at his antics. So this is what he's like drunk? How cute! "Oh, Shasuke, I don't need the moon when I have you but I shall cherish this rock always!~" Even though it was just a regular rock he probably picked up off the ground on the way home. It made her happy that even while drunk, he was still thinking about her. She'll put the rock on the windowsill later.

I think its a rite of passage to make an au at least once, and ive been thinking super hard about how Sonic raised tails lately. So obviously an age swap au had to happen.
