How to make an archery target using recycled materials!
I’m still on the injury recovery bandwagon, but GOOD NEWS: there’s a massive stock of archery references available on my Patreon so you don’t have to miss out on watching me do cool stuff!
Edit: I found the spelling error, thanks everyone for being snarky about it 😉
Do you want to see how muscle engagement varies when using bows of different weights? Or draw an archer running, seated, crouching or leaping? More image packs from my collaboration with @null-entity are now up on Patreon!
P.S. give @null-entity a follow for more excellent image references
This also goes for those “revolutionary bow designs” that are only ever shown piercing an empty drinks can from 3 feet away!
Have fun, enjoy this stuff, but be realistic about it! (Especially when the trick shooter in question is actively telling you something isn’t very effective!)
That said, warbow pole archery is clearly a historically useful technique! 😉
As always, please support these videos if you can!
Putting aside the fact that I specifically visually referenced Atlatls, they’re also just not really relevant to this trope. Nobody is going to stop mid-way through shooting a bow, whip out an atlatl, and launch the arrow with that (not least because they use a completely different type of arrow) because it would be slower and less effective than just using the arrow launcher that you’re already holding (which is called a bow!)
You might as well say ‘throwing arrows is effective because you could have a backup bow’.
When I said “don’t throw the things”, this is why!
(Unless of course you have magic arrows from Santa)
Hey Nerds, Artists, and fans of fun and weird stuff: Exciting news!
Some of you know that I recently did a collaborative photoshoot with @null-entity to produce a bunch of stock reference images of archery, pole, and general fantasy combat nonesense. Well, the first of those image packs is NOW AVAILABLE. You can purchase individual packs, or sign up for the relevant Patreon memberships to get them for free!
More sets, including archery hand references, paired archery poses, and archery muscle references, will be uploaded in the coming weeks.
I don’t know for sure, but I’m reasonably confident that the combination of them being ENORMOUS and also very soft means that they won’t hold their shape in flight, and the subsequent distortion of the fletchings will give the arrow a LOT of drag compared with say, goose wing feathers.
Which isn’t to say that you /couldn’t/ use them, but the result would be more like a flu-flu fletching, which is used to reduce the range of arrows for target or show shooting and looks like this:
Hey does anyone know any particular reason why peacock train feathers could not be used for feathering arrows?
