The reason why it took them two months between winning the war and suzaku actually killing lelouch is bc suzaku was lost looking for clothes in the soup store

Meliodas Never “Betrays” the Demons Au
Since I saw @sullina answer this anon post on a Monday some months ago, I’ve been working on this. I thought this was so interesting that ideas just started springing into my head. Here’s the post for context.  https://www.tumblr.com/sullina/712945738391437313/au-where-meliodas-never-betrayed-the-demon-race?source=share
What if everything else changed to reflect this premise? It could be like a spin-off of the Seven Deadly Sins with a bit of psychological horror. That could be genuinely gritty and thrilling. And... I'd watch it.
My dialogue-loving imagination is perfect for making this, I have decided.
Forgive me for what I’ve done to this show omg. Or demand more details. Or both.
A classic adventure saga begins!
The story would still have some cheery flashbacks/mention of Liz from time to time - more of them than in canon I'd say - but as usual, we wouldn't see Meliodas's own thoughts. After a while, the series's premise seems to be: two people with an unforeseen connection and growing love for each other go on a journey to reunite old friends to save the kingdom from a horrifying fate. Fun!
There's a bit more . . . blood than the viewer originally thought there would be when characters get injured. (realistic blood loss anyone?) And the monsters they encounter are steadily getting creepier the further they get into the wilderness, slowly proving to the viewer that humans are not the dominant species in their own kingdoms, only the most numerous. Over time it becomes clear that humans have been stuck in a “medieval” age of sorts for this long because this beautiful fantasy world is such a dangerous place. Occasionally, the Sins will swerve their course to avoid this specific city that exists simultaneously in six places at once, and where humans are . . . not welcome. The question of who exactly lives there is brought up several times and everyone looks at Meliodas as if to say buddy give us the tea. He only chuckles and says it’s not fairies or giants or beastmen when pressed. The druids live somewhere weird too. and give us some fun and wacky architecture for villages while we’re at it. There are rumors circulating that some kind of life has returned to the ruins of Danafor, with adventurers swearing that there was nothing there while others swear that there is, and the villagers the sins encounter are more creeped out by that than rumors of the actual evil going on.
Meliodas, despite his poker face and guarded personality, would make it very clear to Elizabeth how much he respects and cares for her, even more so than in the original manga. She reciprocates his feelings and they quickly become as inseparable as if they’d been together for years.
The rest of the Sins' romances/backstories might have twists as well. (Except for Merlin, who would be genuinely appreciative of the sins being together and being found family, because she's already too weird in the original). The truths of that would gradually unravel, but they'd work through it in as much of a healthy and mature manner as they're capable of, with the support of their friends. Everything is going pretty well for the Sins as people, despite the world going to trash fast with the efforts of whatever villains there are. The story pivots from Elizabeth's POV routinely to show other characters' struggles and the growing darkness of the evil they set out to vanquish.
The Sins bond, address a bit of their pasts, (even Meliodas feels safe to open up a bit!), and Elizabeth is learns to kick ass with Meliodas's help. A really wholesome show despite whatever new horror elements are added.
Enough with the premise though, let’s get to some actual scenes!
Enjoy!

A big thank you to @zeldriszezinho for coming up with fantastic ideas for the plot details. Which you all will see play out later when I gather up all the scenes I’ve been cooking up and force them onto paper. It was a lot of fun, hope to collab with you again (and anyone else who wants to join us) in the future. <3

my dream is to write a novel, get it published, become rich. or at least moderately well-off. If I can get off my lazy ass… Anyways, this is to say, I love writing fanfic.
And tbh most of the meta I write is entirely from brainstorming ideas and details for fanfic. I wanted to really understand the characters, really get into their heads and write them as in-character as possible. Every word, every action, every neurochemical that might run through their brain and affect their heart rate. Obviously I’ll never know them as well as Horikoshi-sensei does, and I take some minor liberties to get the story where I want it to go, but like, I just wanna get it right.
How a character behaves and reacts to things - meta about their reasons and motivations. Need background events and to know norms the characters might follow - meta about details of the world, setting, history, etc. Making something that hopefully ‘resonances’ - meta about themes and development.
Soooo much of my meta is from me thinking up AUs. The compare and contrast really helps in figuring out why and how the canon story went the way it did; what is the essential and immutable cores of the story that I gotta keep in the AU, and what can be changed or do away with completely. I think it would be cool if this and that happened to this or that character - so why didn’t it? What factors would need to be changed to achieve this AU? What facts and theories would I need to pull out of the canon to do that - or rather, what is in canon anyways?
AU where Sako finds Tenko during The Walk and takes him in - why would magic marble man even do that in the first place? What life would he be living back then at age 17, and how would incorporating a traumatized 5 year old effect that. What’s Tenko’s as-in-character-as-possible reaction to that - guess I’ll have to squint at his every word and movement in the manga. Sako’s got family and Harima’s legacy - gotta fill in those blanks, so what’s most probable and reasonable, accounting for HeroAca culture, history, social structure? All For One has to let Sako keep Tenko (for now) for this AU to work - he’ll need a reason, he’ll need to have limitations on his actions, so can I look at his goal and motivation in a different light without changing the core?
And then suddenly i’m writing an essay about Harima and All For One and what the environment must have been like all those years ago and theorizing…idk, something-something about the politics among metas back then that must have happened to lead to the modern day situation. But really, I was probably just trying to figure out if I can wring out an awkward meal scene from this.
This also probably sounds all pretentious but in reality I usually never have a clear outline or vivid thought. My brain just spins bits and pieces around and sometimes things smash together into a realization. Then it might even just make it onto paper. I rarely have the discipline to actually sit and plan meta, and much less make it coherent. 😔 I usually don’t have the discipline to write the fic either. But I have lots of fun imagining it and thinking about how I might write it.

some of the best fantasy au fics for bnha that i've read
i decided to make a fic rec list of one of my favourite aus/fusions. mostly midoriya-centric, there are some crossovers (with hp), and a lot of different ways in which the authors have taken them - so it could be Quirks, ghosts, outright fantasy aus, spirits, witches etc etc. there isn't a specific order and there aren't a tonne (these are the ones i could find buried in my bookmarks lol), but the ones on the list are all really well written i love them.
i've tried adding relevant information, the summary (shortened if it's pretty long) and just. adding some random tags that may be important. not all of them though. obviously this is not a complete list and there will most definitely be more fics out there, if there are some really good fics that you know that aren't on this list, feel free to tell me, i'd love to read them!!!
i hope someone enjoys these!

Since it’s Pride Month, I decided this year I wanted to raid the library for a bunch of different queer books to read. Mostly graphic novels in this case, because I’ve had a hard time settling into much reading lately... thought hopefully now that it’s summer and I finally have my second shot I’ll be able to relax a bit more and dig into some heavier novels again. For now, enjoy some light, queer reads that I indulged in this June.
Tumblr media
A Wolf Called Wander
A beautiful novel I had been hearing lots about. This story follows the young wolf Swift, who grows up knowing that he and his pack are the mountains, and the mountains are them. It’s in those mountains that he grows and learns and loves… until disaster strikes and he finds himself viciously torn apart from his family and forced out of the mountains that have always meant home to him. Forced to survive on his own. Swift then begins a gruelling journey that makes him face injury, starvation, and the everpresent danger of humans as he seeks a new place he can call home, and new people with whom he can form a pack.
This is all based on the true story of a tagged wolf known as OR-7, following the unbelievable route he took through Oregon and northern California! It was a very neat read, and I’d definitely recommend it if you enjoy stories told from an animal’s perspective because this book is a master class in it.
Tumblr media
Bloom
I decided for June to try to read a handful of different queer books, and this was one of the first graphic novels I picked up. It is a super sweet story and the art is lovely. It’s about Ari, a boy who has just graduated high school and is now desperate to move away from his small town and his family’s struggling bakery, to join his band in the city where they hope to make it big. An agreement is finally reached: Ari’s father will let him leave, if he can find someone who can replace him in the bakery, which is how Ari meets Hector, someone who sees artistry and peace in baking. For anyone that’s read Check, Please, it gives off those types of vibes!
Tumblr media
Boule et Bill: Bill est Maboul
Another book of Dupuis comics, because I can’t get enough of them! This one I just stumbled across and ended up reading on a whim but it was very cute. Geared younger than the others I’ve read, but still quite funny. It’s the charming hijinks of a young boy, his dog, and the family they live with. Each page or so is a different stand alone joke, a bit like Calvin and Hobbes except expanded beyond a single strip.
Tumblr media
Chicken Run: Chicken Pies for the Soul
This was a ridiculous urge I got and had to follow. I recently rewatched Chicken Run (which is, of course, one of the best movies ever made) and felt the need to see if it had ever been novelized. Well, I found something better than a novelization! This is a chapter book with “advice” and stories written by the various characters, post-movie. It really does a good job with grasping the different characters’ voices and making something simple and funny out of it. It was very cute (and available on The Internet Archive if anyone else feels like reading something ridiculous!)
Tumblr media
Doodleville
I picked this up on a whim and honestly, I shouldn’t have bothered. It was not very impressive. Very mediocre, awkward feeling artwork, and a story that only slightly manages to redeem it. The concept was kind of neat, and I did like how the ending came about, the rest was rather… plodding. I did not like the main character at all, her friends felt very Intentionally Quirky Aren’t We Cute :3 in a way that just tries too hard, and… yeah. Meh. It technically gets the “queer graphic novel flag” but it’s so in-passing that it feels rather excessive to give it that.
If you are interested, it’s about a world were doodles actually exist as living creatures that can be drawn into existence (the rather unsettling implications of which is never fully explored). This is all well and good, until the main character draws a monster and takes it with her to her art club... where it begins ravanging not only her doodles, but those of her friends. Together they need to work together to figure out how to stop this menace.
Tumblr media
FRNCK v4
Phenomenal. I adore the FRNCK series, and book four wrapped up the first “cycle”, revealing several of the big secrets dogging the series so far, and changing how things are going to be able to run in the future.
If you haven’t seen me talk about it before, FRNCK is a graphic novel (a franco-belgian bande dessinée) about a young orphan, Franck, who’s chafing under the constant parade of uninterested foster parents that visit the orphanage he lives in. Determined to learn about his mysterious abandonment instead, he flees the orphanage… but finds himself tumbling through time, landing among a family of cave-people who rather reluctantly take him in and ensure this modern boy doesn’t die in the strange, dangerous new surroundings he finds himself in. You can get these ones in English as e-books, so if you want a really kickass graphic novel series to read please try these.
Tumblr media
Haikyu!!
I’ve heard so much about Haikyu!! that I finally gave in and picked up the first book from the library. And I gotta say, it’s well worth the hype! This series really does capture the best parts of a good sports manga -- which is to say the team is filled with interesting, enjoyable character who all need to learn to pull together, boost each other’s strengths, and cover for each other’s weaknesses. Love me some found family tropes and this series oozes it in the best possible way. And then you also get some very cool action scenes as it makes high school volleyball seem like the most intense thing on earth. I can’t wait to continue it
Tumblr media
Queer Eye
I haven’t been keeping up with Queer Eye but I was watching it ravenously when it first came out, and this seemed like a very cathartic book to read… and it really was. It had the same gentle, loving encouragement as the show. It doesn’t expect you to change your entire life, but to learn to embrace who you are, and take small steps to enhance those things. There a segment written (presumably) by each member of the Fab Five, explaining the mentality behind what they do on the show and how you can grow in those areas too. It’s very zen.
Tumblr media
Spinning
I got this graphic novel out at the same time as Bloom, but it was the one that interested me less of the two... though that’s just because I have less interest in “real world” slice of life as a genre and this one is meant to be autobiographical. If you’re into that, you’ll probably love this because it really is stunning. Very pretty, and the format and pacing is all really well done. It’s a coming of age story for Tillie as she grows up dealing with a crosscountry move, complicated friendships, a burgeoning attraction to girls, and attending competitive figure skating classes.
Tumblr media
This Place: 150 Years Retold
A stunning and heart-wrenching graphic novel told by a collection of different First Nation’s authors/artists, recounting oral histories about the 150 years since the colonialist formation of the country known as “Canada”. In other words, this is a post-apocalypse story, but one that really happened and that entire peoples are still fighting to survive. It’s very eye opening and beautifully told. Very strongly recommend the read, especially if you’re at all interested in history.
Tumblr media
Torchwood: Serenity
Whoops, not technically a book. I had thought these were technically audiobooks at first, but rather they’re audio dramas that were played on the radio. Still, I decided to include one because I’ve been listening to them like a person possessed and they’re too fun not to at least mention. Let me indulge in my obsessions.
If you don’t know Torchwood, it’s a BBC series that spins-off from Doctor Who, focusing on the enigmatic and flirtatious Captain Jack Harkness, who is running the covert organization known as Torchwood, which is tasked to protect humanity from and prepare them for alien contact. It’s goofy and campy but also more adult and heavy than Doctor Who tends to get, so it is (in my opinion) a really fascinating series. Though it also has content warnings coming out the wazoo so maybe make sure it’s for you before delving in.
Serenity specifically is possibly one of the best Torchwood stories I’ve ever experienced. The Torchwood team concludes that there’s an undercover alien hiding in the idyllic gated community Serenity Plaza, and so that means it’s up to Jack and Ianto to go undercover as a happily married couple and flush out the alien without being discovered first. Even if it means being sickly sweet together, pretending to care about the local neighbourhood barbecues, and actually caring a bit too much about the Best Front Lawn competition. What is truly magical about this one, is that it manages to make it a Fake Dating AU despite the fact that Jack and Ianto are actually dating in canon. But they’re both used to dating as a pair of alien hunters with insanely dysfunctional lives, and who now need to figure out how to deal with domesticity. It is marvellous.
Tumblr media
Wilderlore: The Accidental Apprentice
A middle grade novel that felt a bit like a cross between Harry Potter and Pokemon. It’s about orphan Barclay Thorne who wants nothing more than to be accepted in the rule-bound village of Dullshire, and live up to his apprenticeship as a mushroom farmer. He certainly wants nothing to do with the fearsome Beasts who live beyond the village, deep in the Woods or the sinister Lorekeepers that bond with them. It was, after all, a Beast that had killed his parents all those years ago. But when he finds himself at the very edge of the forest, hunting for an elusive mushroom, he is suddenly unable to avoid any of that. Not when a wild girl and her bonded dragon appear to summon a horrible Beast and end up getting Barclay bonded to it instead. Now, if Barclay ever wants to be welcomed back into his home, he has no choice but to venture into the Woods and find a way to sever the bond imprisoning him to the massive, monstrous wolf now imprinted on his body as a living tattoo.
I honestly can’t decide how I felt about this one. I feel like it’d be a really fun read for maybe a grade 5 to 7 student? I was a bit more meh about it. It was fine, but it was very hard not to draw unfavourable parallels to Harry Potter. But for a kid who’s never read Harry Potter? Or even an adult that has but is looking for something different to scratch that itch, this might be a good book to try. I’ll probably try reading the second book when it comes out.

Chapter three! I already skimmed through it and just. Holy fuck I’m falling in love with this series all over again, and this is just the opening arc, how the hell is this so good??? I’m genuinely just in awe and fuck is it making it hard to decide where to have a cut-off point for this chapter. I suppose we’ll just have to see what fate decides.
(Also, the temptation to just paste in all of the last three pages of the chapter is so incredibly strong, you don’t understand.)
[No. 3 - Entrance Exam]
We start off with some exposition: UA’s hero course is designed to give students all they need to go pro, and is the toughest and most popular hero course in the country, with only a 1 in 300 acceptance rate. Discounting the four slots that are recommendation students, that’s 36 slots a year, which is about…
Tumblr media
Yeah. That’s a lotta applications, and that’s just for the hero course!
Several alumni are mentioned: All Might, who declined the people’s choice award; Endeavor, who’s stopped more crimes than anyone else in recorded history; and Best Jeanist, who’s won the Best Jeanist award eight years running. (One of these things is not like the other~ One of these things just doesn’t belong~) The exposition suggests that graduating from UA is basically a requirement for becoming a great hero - something which we’ll learn soon enough isn’t quite true.
But yeah, Endeavor with the record for crime handling, even above All Might. Quite the impressive hero, though that face…
Tumblr media
Not precisely reassuring.
So yeah, Izuku here mentions the date of the exam - February 26th. I figure that this has to be a Sunday, for the simple fact that Japan has a slightly different school schedule than us. Most notably: Japanese schools (some of them, anyways) have 5.5 day school weeks. Yes, that means the first half of Saturday can still be a school day.
While I couldn’t confirm for sure whether this is more common among the higher end schools, I feel like a school like UA, with its ‘Plus Ultra’ motto, would definitely be a school to have a half-day (or even a full day) on Saturdays, and since they also have to accomodate for middle schools that have Saturday morning classes, I figure that it would make the most sense for UA to schedule this exam on a Sunday.
The benefits of this, as we’ve already seen, is that we can then narrow down the timeline for the rest of the series, just based on that single, confirmed date. We know from the last chapter that the Sludge Villain had to happen on a Thursday or Friday of the first week of school (April 14th/15th), with the first training session two days later (the 16th/17th). But what this also gives us is when Izuku’s first year of UA starts, AND the possible years it could start on.
Since we see the glowing baby is in a modern hospital, we can assume that’s correlated to about our times. Give it a few generations, and we can guess that we’re in the 2200s or 2300s for the current era. Based on that assumption, we get the following years that have February 26th on a Sunday:
23rd century potential years: 2204, 2209, 2215, 2226, 2232, 2237, 2243, 2254, 2260, 2265, 2271, 2282, 2288, 2293, 2299
24th century potential years: 2310, 2316, 2321, 2327, 2338, 2344, 2349, 2355, 2366, 2372, 2377, 2383, 2394, 2400
As a side note, when I got into the series, my brain weirdly latched onto the idea that this had to all be happening in the year 2317. I don’t know why I decided on that number, but that’s what I rolled with, and hilariously I could be RIGHT about the year the current manga arc is happening in, provided Izuku’s first year is in 2316. Sometimes you just know, ya know? I know at least one other friend made these calcs independently of me and chose to run with 2237, which is totally valid! Probably makes more sense to be in the 2200s, but there’s room depending on how much time one thinks has passed.
As for when Izuku’s high school school year starts, we know that Japanese schools start on the second Monday of April. Since we don’t know if this is a leap year or not, we’ll end up with two dates, but that’s fine!
Feb 26 (Sun) -> Feb 27 (Mon) -> March (6/5, 13/12, 20/19, 27/26) -> April (3/2, 10/9)
Therefore, Izuku’s first day of classes (not counting the orientation, which I’ve seen a few other timelines assume is on the Sunday before classes start) is April 10th (or the 9th if a leap year)! I know this is all in the future from this chapter, but still, I wanted to share this at some point and figured now was as good a time as always.
Math!
Tumblr media
Sorry, I’ve just wanted to share this math I did for a while now, I put a lot of work into it and I am very proud of it. Let’s get back to the chapter.
So Izuku lives a 40 minute train ride away from UA, and has made it just in time for the exam. Apparently, this is only the practical portion? Or well, that’s the part that gets focused on in this chapter, with no mention of the paper exam. I would imagine they’d be the same day, though? But I suppose one can do whatever they like with it.
He’s standing there looking at the school, thinking about how he didn’t have a chance to test the power, while the other students head in-
Tumblr media
Excuse me, Toga?? I know that hairstyle is just a bit off, but… ???
...right, anyways. Izuku is wondering whether the hair really did anything (also, it was apparently sour, which, ew.) Katsuki comes up behind him and tells him to move aside.
Tumblr media
Truly a flattering image. Izuku panics a bit and greets him, but Katsuki just walks by without another word or gesture, leaving Izuku confused as he watches him head on into the building. The narrative notes that since the villain incident, Katsuki hadn’t bothered Izuku, while the unnamed characters in the background apparently recognize Katsuki from the ‘sludge’ incident (well, not shocked how the fandom held onto that name).
Izuku notes that he’s gotta stop flinching instinctively, and then tries to hype himself up, noting that it’s not like before, and think about the past ten months while taking a wobbly step forward- and then tripping over himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m sorry Izuku just has so many fantastic faces in this chapter I am crying trying to limit myself to just a few. But yeah, that little derp as he realizes what’s happening is adorable, especially while Ochako gently sets him back on his feet. She mentions that it’s her quirk, and apologizes for using it, but that it’s a bad omen to trip and fall. (I wonder if that gets played with again during later parts of the series… will have to check to see.)
While Izuku freaks out over talking to a girl, Ochako notes that the exam is nerve-wracking, and then heads off while wishing both of them luck as Izuku stares after.
Tumblr media
This fucking kid. I love him so much. His flustered excitement gets him some weird looks from the others still outside.
We transition to a new character (Present Mic) who immediately shows off his performative side by calling for a ‘hey!’ which… is met with silence from the crowd. He doesn’t let this throw him off, instead letting them know that he’ll present the guidelines for the practical, followed with a ‘YEAH!’ that gets met with an even heavier silence.
Izuku and Katsuki are seated next to each other, with Izuku descending right into excited muttering over Present Mic and how he listens to his radio show every week. Also with the assumption that all the UA teachers are pro heroes, which I mean, true, but still. Katsuki tells Izuku to shut up.
Present Mic explains the test: ten minute long ‘mock cityscape maneuvers’, with the applicants split among seven arenas, labelled ‘A’ through ‘G’. With more than 10k applicants total, that’s about…
Tumblr media
Yeah, more than 1500 per arena. Fucking hell, no wonder the robots deplete so quickly in only a few minutes. Also of interest:
Tumblr media
“Bring along whatever you want.” So technically, if Izuku were able to procure the tech and training to handle the robots, there would be nothing keeping him from getting into UA quirkless… though I imagine any kid who gets in mostly on tech probably gets side-eyed… though if said kid made their OWN tech, they might also get an offer from the Support department.
(AU where Mei accidentally took the heroics exam and got a shitload of points, but she ended up taking the offer for Support instead despite setting the record for most points in said exam. Katsuki forever wants to fight her. Izuku and her are good friends.)
Also, another thing I love is how Katsuki just told Izuku to shut up a moment ago, and then:
Tumblr media
He’s the one to initiate conversation on the details of the test, basically agreeing on the reasoning behind dividing up the students between arenas. Katsuki is annoyed at not being able to crush Izuku, which has Izuku awkwardly silent.
Also mini-Mic.
Tumblr media
Poor, poor Mic. He just wants audience participation. Anyways, he continues on to explain the points system, with the help of cute little Mario-themed silhouettes. There are three kinds of faux villains, with different points awarded for defeating each based on their difficulty levels. Also, attacking other examinees is prohibited!
A student (cough Tenya) raises their hand to ask a question, going on to note that the handout sheet appears to have four varieties of villain, and that such a blatant error (if it is one) reflects poorly on Japan’s top academy. He then spins around and points at Izuku, calling him out for his muttering and how distracting he’s been, and that ‘if this is some sort of game to you, then please leave immediately!’
Tumblr media
Is that… Mineta seated behind Izuku? I can’t find another panel that disproves that theory, so. Whelp. If you ever for some reason want to have Izuku accidentally deal with the grape early, he’s right there.
Anyways, Present Mic brings the convo back to the initial question/comment, noting that the fourth villain is worth zero points, and is more of an obstacle. He then brings up Super Mario Brothers, the old retro game, and compares the Zero Pointer to a thwomp. There’s one per site, serving as a gimmick that’ll rampage in close quarters. Tenya thanks Mic and apologizes for the interruption.
And so we get our final words from Present Mic:
Tumblr media
??? either he's referencing the original guy (which I think would be a misquote because I doubt OG Nap ever noted anything like that) or some French hero or the like who took on the name.
Discord offered this to me while putting together the post:
Tumblr media
So there you have it. Tentatively confirmed.
Tumblr media
Those EYES man, dude’s got the Rinnegan going on.
Honestly, I have to end on this panel just because of that last line from Present Mic. Like, look me in the eyes and tell me this isn’t the exact point to end on.
The discord’s takeaway from this:

ALL FUCKIN 35 OF THEM SKLNWESDJFPXO
Tumblr media
I SHOULDVE EXPECTED THIS FROM YOU
1. From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!)
A three! I think I’m mid range cause I ain’t terrible but there is still shit I gotta improve and grow in my writing
2. Why do you write fanfiction?
to manifest what canon won’t give me and to write more! (though yes it is mainly about the smooching and the— I’ll stop there LOL)
3. What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?
Hm! My weird research details? I’m that “fun fact, did you know...” in my fics sometimes LOL! I plan on giving a penthouse for erina in a fic and I went through penthouse listings in Japan for floor layouts and locations💀 my research gives me inspo and depth to stuff I think I lack in comparison to others sometimes.
4. Are there any writers that inspire you?
In terms of fellow fic writers, one of them I can’t name here but she’s an inspiration with her exceptional gift for prose period and her lovely skill at comedy! I want to be as funny as her when I write, I love her ironic situational humor. Other fic writers are @takoyakitenchou, @royaldragonsevgisi15 who I always love sharing ideas with and motivate me to create more! For non-fic writers it would be V.E. Schwab, Leigh Bardugo, Oda, and Horikoshi! The last two may be mangaka, however they are writers as well to create their stories! The depth these creators have given their worlds and interesting characters theyve given life to are all what I aspire to be like!
5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?
so far uh?? hm everything I’m currently writing are wips lol!! im proud of my wip that has been nicknamed ‘soma panics’ that is a multi-chapter fic that spans like probs 20 plus chapters maybe
6. What element of writing do you find comes easily?
dialogue! it’s so much fun! and character thoughts. I’ve said to people I may be better suited for script writing
7. What element of writing do you struggle with most?
I think it’s description, of like setting and showing action. also an expansion of my vocabulary LOL
8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?
erina! I think it’s because canon has shown us many of her different faces and range of emotion.
9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?
SOMA!! chill ass mofo whos more carefree compared to the common shonen protagonist! for other shokugeki characters I’m not sure just yet because I haven’t flexed my fingers enough for the rest of them.
10. What’s your favorite genre to write for?
I guess I should say romance cause that’s what I mostly write LOL!
11. Who or what do you find yourself writing about most?
sorina and I try to get them to smooch eventually KEK and yeah it’s..usually romantic fluff lmao
12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.
HONESTLY ALL OF THEM but “soma panics” is my brain child
13. First fandom you ever wrote for?
pretty sure it’s digimon....
14. What’s your favorite fandom to write for?
currently shokugeki no soma!!!!
15. What’s the weirdest fandom you’ve ever written for?
uhhhh I guess SNS? LMAO fandoms...all have their quirks to them.
16. Any guilty pleasure trope(s)?
characters cuddling!!!! or getting the urge to smooch!!!!
17. A trope you’ll never, ever write for.
unrequited love GOOD FUCKIN BYEEEEEE
18. Wildest fic you’ve ever written?
I have plot ideas thst can be wild potentially but so far nothing fits this criteria so far that I actually have written.
19. Do you prefer canon-compliant, AUs, or something in-between?
depends on the fandom, but if written well, all of it!
20. Gen fic or shippy stuff?
shippy 100% like I said I like smoochin
21. Favorite pairing to write for? (platonic or romantic!)
romantic is...*drumroll* SORINA! platonic, soutaku and erina and alice!
22. Do you listen to anything while you write?
Sometimes! There are times songs will be on loop and times I just shuffle a playlist. and if I’m writing in random bursts it’ll be with no music but it really does depend lmao I think music is when I’m forcing myself to write?
23. Do you prefer prompts and challenges, or completely independent ideas?
completely independent ideas, I’ve realized in the past prompts shoot me in the foot often unless I luckily figure something out. but I’m often driven by my own sporadic self interest with shitty ping ponging attention
24. One-shots or multi-chaptered works?
multi-chap I guess cause I can post without being finished LOLLL but tbh can I really answer? I haven’t finished anything.....
25. Have you ever daydreamed about side adventures/spin-offs from your fic? Tell us about them!
I can’t answer this question imo because I haven’t finished a fic yet so technically stuff could all fit in the one fic?
26. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?
MYSTERY AND CRIME! I love the genre and I have plot ideas once a blue moon but I can’t dive in because I want to make details that work and reduce plot holes where suspension of disbelief isn’t as needed. I need to study it more (I need to study all the details for any of my fics imo to be confident sometimes LOL)
27. What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?
I don’t think I can say one comment was the nicest because I’ve gotten comments that have given me quite the smiles to my face many times! I know this is a cop out but it’s true!
IS WHAT I WAS GONNA SAY UNTIL REINA SENT ME THE FOLLOWING ON DISCORD LIKE TWENTY MINS AGO:
and also rad. i am never this vocal about my emotions like EVER but this needs to be said your fics are obviously far from perfect, as are mine and everyone else's. but the thing about your works is that they're so well-sanded that it's impossible to find any rough edges or faults in them in terms of cohesion to a plot. your cast is never OOC and the amount of effort you devote to developing your takes on the characters as accurately as possible is unimaginably awe-inspiring.
BITCH I WANNA CRY 😭
28. How well do you handle criticism when it comes to your writing?
I’d like to believe I take it often well to try and improve because that’s always my goal. if someone is rude lol that’s not constructive snd is unhelpful. If I disagree with criticism I’ll explain why !
29. Have you ever gone outside of your comfort zone for a fic? How did it turn out?
Not yet, but I have some plot ideas I think will let me test this.
30. Tooth-rotting fluff or merciless angst?
F L U F F.
31. Do you have any OCs? Tell us about them!
elliott fuji, a japanese-american award winning photographer who is erina’s boyfriend in ‘soma panics’ which..causes soma’s panic LOL he’s 30 with slightly wavy black hair. I still haven’t pinpointed his personality just yet...he kind of humble brags for sure an artsy fucker and flirts maybe I’ll make him a lil shy though. he teaches sometimes, and becomes an adjunct photography professor in Tokyo so he can be with erina.
32. Summarize a random fic of yours in 10 words or less.
a cook is unfashionably late in realizing his feelings.
33. Is there anything you wish your audience knew about your writing or writing process?
I am a slow. so slow. motivation who is she? I also write out of order, unfortunately a bit too often.
34. Copy and paste an excerpt you’re particularly fond of.
this should be for the fic ‘soma panics’ it’s either megumi or satoshi talkin to him rn, I’m leaning towards satoshi
“You thought she would always wait for you, didn’t you Soma-kun? To always welcome you home.”
Soma drags his palms down his face and groans. He doesn’t like this at all. He doesn’t shy from confrontation but this is a whole different ballgame. Soma doesn’t play any ball.
“I guess..?” Is his reply, because he thinks he isn’t sure how to answer that.
“You guess?”
Just being questioned again is enough to crack Soma’s pathetic facade as if it was dropped chinaware and he lets out the longest sigh.
“No.”
Coming home means coming home to Nakiri Erina too.
Nakiri Erina is his forever.
this is @takoyakitenchou’s excerpt she’s most proud of that I’ve written, which is also from you guessed it, the long fic soma panics
SOMA: I am, I mean I will be, I swear I will always come home to you, not spend as much time abroad, once I’m done with work I’ll come right back. I’ll make sure to message you. Nakiri, I’m in love you with you. Maybe for a really long time. You know how I say I dedicate my food to you? My dad—my dad said that the key to become a good chef is to find someone to dedicate your cooking to. A special someone. For my dad it was my mom, you know? For me it’s...
(this is a good piece of dialogue tbh so I am also proud of this)
35. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!
I’ve mentioned it throughout this but the WIP I’ve nicknamed ‘soma panics’ is something I’m super excited to write, but it’s going on slowly...and almost completely out of order. out of all of my writing it showed off that particular habit of mine, along with “what is this, a shoujo manga?!” though the latter is currently being written chronologically now that I’ve posted chapter one and is pretty solid in direction. it was originally supposed to be a one shot but I got impatient and wanted to post at least something for the sorina / soueri fandom.
however, because ‘soma panics’ (I won’t call it that LOL) is my baby I want to keep true to my rule of refusing to post it until I have a draft of the entire fic finished and I’m satisfied with the main points pretty much. due to my writing out of order, I’m worried I’ll change my mind about scenes or want to reflect things in earlier chapters for later ones etc etc
I joined the SnS fandom extremely late, as season five was airing. I was a fan of the manga five years ago and dropped it because I forgot to check for updates when I caught up 😔 I really want to bang out the different fics and aus for sorina that I have before the fandom fizzles out entirely but tbh I’m writing for myself, I’m manifesting what I want to see and I’ll just share it with all my friends to read if no one else will. cause I’m slow broski I dunno what writing fast even is like LMAO I do really want to write faster though, so I can contribute more and let the words free from the discord dms....

i may or may not watch fate series but what's the order
My time has come
A random guide to watching the Fate series by moi
Tumblr media
What is Fate and where do I start?
The “Fate” series follows the Holy Grail War, where seven magi are chosen by the Holy Grail to each summon and team up with one of the greatest heroes or villains from history and make them fight against each other until only one of them is left. The last person standing will have a wish granted by the Holy Grail.
And there is a lot of Fate stuff. Games, Manga, Visual Novels and Anime but to narrow it down I’ll stick to the main Fate series and of that only the parts that have anime adaptations
The main series that has an adaptation is “Fate/Stay Night”, a Visual Novel from 2004 that has three routes to play (think of them as alternative universes idk): Fate (also sometimes called “Stay Night” but “Fate” is the official name), Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven’s Feel. It also has a prequel, “Fate/Zero” that also has an adaptation
With only the main series and its anime adaptions, you’re still left with quite the collection to choose from:
Fate/Stay Night (2006 series, Studio Deen) and Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (2010 movie, Studio Deen) - Adaptations of the Fate and Unlimited Blade Works route but do NOT watch those. They’re both bad, contain spoilers or assume you’ve read the visual novel. Just don’t watch them
Fate/Zero (2011-12 series, ufotable) – An anime adaptation of the Prequel “Fate/Zero”. It takes place 10 years before the main series. A possible starting point
Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (2014-15 series, ufotable) – An anime adaptation of the Unlimited Blade Works route. Another possible starting point
Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel (2017-20 three movies, ufotable) – An anime adaptation of the Heaven’s Feel route split into three movies so it’s like an alternative universe to Unlimited Blade Works. Not a starting point and at this point not all movies are out in English yet. Should be watched after Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works; edit: all movies are out in English
Leaving out the stuff you shouldn’t watch, you’re left with Fate/Zero, Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works and Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel
So you can either watch the prequel “Fate/Zero” first
Meaning: Fate/Zero -> Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works -> Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel
Cons: When you go on to Fate/Stay Night, you will know some spoilers for Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven’s Feel, like family relations, who some people are and what they have done, what happened ten years ago etc etc Fate/Zero does not explain what’s going on. It only very briefly explains the Holy Grail war, the master and servant stuff but it can be very confusing because it doesn’t explain a lot BUT: Honestly the spoilers aren’t that bad and once you get over the confusion everything’s fine
Or you watch Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works first
Meaning: Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works -> Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel -> Fate/Zero
Cons: At this point, not all Heaven’s Feel movies are out in English Going back to Fate/Zero you’ll already know how what happens to some characters, how Fate/Zero ends etc etc BUT: Unlimited Blade Works explains the whole setting in great detail and makes it easily understandable
Conclusion: There is no ideal starting point to the Fate series. Do not watch “Heaven’s Feel” first though, the movies assume that you’ve watched Unlimited Blade Works. Either Fate/Zero -> Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works -> Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel Or Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works -> Fate/Stay Night Heaven’s Feel -> Fate/Zero
Here is a good video that helped me figure everything out, it also goes into the games, visual novels, spin-offs and AUs a bit
My brother and I started with Fate/Zero because back when I got into anime only that one existed and I didn’t know what Unlimited Blade Works was oops. We were extremely confused at times but it got better over time

Name: Ezralia Vali, but all my friends call me Elv
Writing Blog URL(s): @ezralia-writes (@haylo4ever was my OG writing account 5 years ago)
Age: 19
Nationality: Asian American
Languages: English and un poco Espanol
Star Sign: Aries
MBTI: INFJ
Favorite color: As of now, red
Favorite food: Pasta
Favorite movie: The Golden Compass, but Howl’s Moving Castle and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time are close choices too
Favorite ice cream flavor: Vanilla with chocolate syrup or caramel
Favorite animal: Narwhals
Go-to karaoke song: Uh, Who Do You Love (Monsta X)
Dream job (whether you have a job or not): TBH, my dream job is being a manager/CEO of a tech job (realistically) or a backup dancer for kpop groups (unrealistically)
Coffee or tea? What are you ordering? Neither, hot coco (coffee in the future to keep me sane)
If you could have one superpower, what would you choose? Mind-read
If you could visit a historical era, which would you choose? Sengoku Japanese period or in England when kings and queens were bloody powerful
If you could restart your life, knowing what you do now, would you? Yes
Would you rather fight 100 chicken-sized horses or one horse-sized chicken? 100 chicken-sized horses
If you were a trope in a teen high school movie, what would you have been? Please, I wanna be in the nerdy girl and jock romance but honestly, I’m probably just the side, hermit character.
Do you believe in aliens/supernatural creatures? Yes but I know they don’t exist
Fun fact about yourself that not everyone would know? Uh, I talk a lot about myself but I have trypophobia - there should not be holes in things that are supposed to be whole.
What fandom(s) do you write for? As of now, I write for BTS, GOT7, NCT, Monsta X, and Stray Kids
When did you post your first piece? May 26, 2020 (Dec 7, 2014 was my OG post on ff.net haha)
Do you write fluff/angst/crack/general/smut, combo, etc? Why? I write fluff, angst (lots), and sometimes crack. While I can rec some awesome smuts, I don’t feel comfortable writing explicit smut as of yet, although I will elude to some smexy time. I do have a WIP that I will one day write that will definitely include smut because it’s part of the story.
Do you write OCs, X Readers, Ships...etc? I have some OG OCs and my starter fics on Tumblr were third-person female reader. However, recent works include x you (reader) and I find that really fun and easier to write! I don’t really write any ships for Kpop.
Why did you decide to write for Tumblr? Having read so many awesome works on Tumblr made me want to write and hopefully have other readers experience the same feelings I do when I read that great piece. However, my original goal was just to write for Monsta X since there aren’t a whole lot of fics for them but also because I have too many ideas running in my mind. Lastly, I just write for myself.
What inspires you to write? The groups I write for, other things I read (like mangas and/or shows), and especially songs!
What genres/AUs do you enjoy writing the most? I write best fluff for established relationships because otherwise it’s all just angst, which is a lot of fun to write while keeping it not too toxic unless stated otherwise for plot. I also love silly fics for giggles. As for Au’s I enjoy regular day to day life with a spin or fantasy based Au’s.
What do you hope your readers take away from your work? I hope they just feel a strong emotion - depending on the genre. I hope that they get to the end and find all the nuances I try to sprinkle throughout the story hinting to clues or plot devices. That’s always what I try to aim for.
What do you do when you hit a rough spot creatively? Cry. Jokes aside, I take a break/breather to refocus and take time for myself. I also read professional works to take my mind off things or get inspired.
What is your favorite work and why? Your most successful? My personal favorite of my published works would be my Han Jisung x reader, Promise. It was my first kpop fic and a gift to my friend. I think it’s a hallmark of my return to writing and I look forward to publishing more of my favorite plots! My most successful is Spiderling, a Jeon Jungkook x reader fic, not surprised at all that my first official BTS fic would be the most popular one of my current works haha.
Who is your favorite person to write about? Honestly, I have so many ideas for Changkyun haha. I feel like he’s totally boyfriend material and can fit different roles from a total fratboy to a soft boyfriend. But I’m trying to expand both my writing and pairings and it’s a fun challenge to write for the different boys.
Do you think there’s a difference between writing fanfiction vs. completely original prose? I actually do! In my honest opinion, fanfiction is work about an already established character/person/universe. It’s easier for me to think up ideas for characters already prepped because I personally get lost in the details already of thinking up terms/universes to place the story in. I have a character that’s already established and people know about without having to elaborate on those finer details.
What do you think makes a good story? Proper formatting goes a long way. While I don’t judge on grammar and spelling mistakes, it is a much smoother read if people follow basic narrative-writing skills. I feel like anyone who can embody their own style and ideas (without being discriminatory or mean), then they’ve really got me hooked.
What is your writing process like? A mess. I know a lot of people outline, and I try that sometimes. But, normally I just get straight into writing what I’ve brainstormed, maybe adding some notes for future events here and there. If I get tied up at a certain part, I make a messy line break and start another scene.
Would you ever repurpose a fic into a completely original story? Yes. Funnily enough though, I repurpose my original storylines for fics, but if I could, I would write an original story.
What tropes do you love, and what tropes can’t you stand? I can’t stand cliches but I WILL cry over them if they’re well-written and/or have a spin on them. So, ultimately I’m down for anything. Enemy to lovers isn’t always my favorite but @gukyi does a great job, since that’s her renowned trope.
How much would you say audience feedback/engagement means to you? A lot! I have a few lovely mootz that always have something nice to say, but I would love more reader interaction! Of course, I’m a newer writer and haven’t blown up so it is to be expected that I’m a little lonely right now. I hope that’s not a long-term thing.
What has been one of the biggest factors of your success (of any size)? Who I write for. I hate to be blunt about it, but certain members and/or groups truly are more popular which is a shame at times. Plus, interacting with more mootz and authors as well as joining discord chats and networks helps by meeting new people who will interact with you and your content.
Do you think fanfic writers get unfairly judged? Yes, at times and with certain topics. We all know people will go on anon and tear anyone down for whatever reason.
Do you think art can be a medium for change? Definitely! Writing for the public,(especially fanfic and reader-based fics) especially in these times, means you have to adapt and adhere to the ever-changing times. We have a role to play in how people perceive things, whether that’s regarding an IRL person or how we view others with representation.
Do you ever feel there are times when you’re writing for others, rather than yourself? Huh, as of now, I feel like I’m writing for myself. Without a lot of interaction, I don’t feel pressure. I do want to write for other groups, but as of now I’m trying to pick up speed with certain groups. I have a lot of WIPs, so we will see where I end up.
Do you ever feel like people have misunderstood you or your writing at times? Not that I know of, haha.
Do your offline friends/loved ones know you write for Tumblr? No, haha.
What is one thing you wish you could tell your followers? I love you!
Do you have any advice for aspiring writers who might be too scared to put themselves out there? Don’t be afraid! It’s scary, but the worst that can happen is not writing!
Are there any times when you regret joining Tumblr? HAahaha, only because the site’s interaction roles have drastically dropped and a lot of the features suck. But the people I’ve met… priceless. I love them all and a lot have impacted my life so positively.
Do you have any mutuals who have been particularly formative/supportive in your Tumblr journey? Yes! All of them!

🌹🌹🌹🌹 (this is me poking your brain with a stick and muttering "c'mon, move" interpret the multiple roses as you wish!)
Alright, 4 WIPs! (Some have a rather thick coat of dust on them, haha)
1. Doug’s Boys (A Harvest Moon greaser AU where the boys at Doug’s Inn are in a turf war with a Yankee Girls gang in Forget-Me-Not Valley) In this excerpt, Cliff was spotted doing some recon in enemy territory and it didn’t end well...
“S-Seigi…”  His blurry eyes traveled across the weapon.
Nami set down the camera she was preparing to load with film.  She was surprised the boy was still conscious; she looked around them cautiously before squatting down beside him.  “What are you going on about?”  Her voice was serious, but he caught a hint of curiosity in it despite the ringing in his ears.
“Th-The kanji on your bat…  seigi… m-means ‘justice’…”  He slurred as he coughed and retched on that last word.  Cliff looked up at her with dilated pupils; the signs of his concussion strongly evident.  “I-I take it you knew that…”
She gave a slight nod.  “Wrote it myself.”  He was sure there was a smirk under that surgical mask as she stared at her pride and joy.  The young woman pointed at the first character.  “Sei.  It means ‘right’.  Gi. ‘Morality’.”  She gestured toward the second half of the calligraphy.
He felt a wave of adrenaline rush through him again; he was so angry he could hardly stand it, but his body was too sore to move.  “A-And do you see any of that in wh-what you do?!”  He choked on vomit and blood.
So now he was willing to talk… She leaned into him so closely that they nearly touched.  Nami kept her voice low.  “Sometimes the right thing isn’t always the easiest…  Look, I don’t hate you, so don’t give me a reason to.”
2. In This Corner of the Farm (A crossover between Harvest Moon and the movie/manga “In This Corner of the World” where Claire agrees to an arranged marriage and learns to live with her new family (Akiyama Village from TSN where Cliff’s family is still alive) away from a world she grew up in.  My friend challenged me to combine the two, and it’s kinda been my secret little project only a couple of people have seen - written specially for a close friend.  It’s pretty... explicit, so I’m not sure if there’s much interest from readers.  Anyway, here’s a blurb from early on:
For as long as she could remember, Trent had helped clean her bumps and scrapes with a tender, steady hand that seemed to have experience well beyond his fifteen years. As a girl who lived on a farm and played outdoors every day, Claire was no stranger to minor injuries, but Trent always faithfully came to her side.
“It’s all I know.  I’m going to be away at school all the time and never get to see anyone anymore.” There was a hopelessness to his voice that Claire wasn’t sure how to remedy.
“They’re just trying to help you have a good future,” she insisted with a sad smile.  “I bet someday you’ll be saving peoples’ lives and you’ll be happy doing what you do.”
There was something so sincere about those clear blue eyes that the uptight boy couldn’t help but relax a bit.  “Well, when you say it, I almost feel like I could believe you.”
Claire’s face lit up; Trent rarely gave a genuine grin, and when he did, it felt like she was the only one in the world he smiled for.  She took his hand and twirled herself, her blonde hair fanning out as she drew out a soft chuckle from him.
“You’ll get to meet and help so many people!  Just focus on that!”  She spun once more and when he shyly let go of her hand, she continued to dance in the grass.  The gentle breeze played with her loose hair like a set of celebratory streamers.
“Maybe it won’t be so bad…”  He watched, entranced, as the girl moved to music he couldn’t hear, her natural talent a delight to behold.  Claire’s face glowed as her eyes met his, and the color rising in her cheeks wasn’t solely from her movement.
3.  The file is simply titled “MM”.  It’s a Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask I was working on several years ago.  After Link releases the spirit from the Deku Mask, he finds himself compelled to wear it, eager to understand this timid voice that keeps calling out to him in his mind when he dons it.  He becomes obsessed with the mask, slowly forgetting which memories belong to him.
“Go ahead, try it on.  You’re a brave kid, aren’t you?”
He gave an emphatic nod.  That was the way it always was with the boy; he was always eager to let others define who he was.  The princess had once referred to him as a ray of light, a courageous symbol of hope for her kingdom.  That was his favorite description of anyone gave of him, and he did everything he could to live up to those expectations.
He held the mask up to his face and felt his head spin as a searing pain traveled across his body.  He could hear the crackling of wood as the mask fused to his flesh and it felt as if his skin was being torn apart.  He let out a muffled cry of pain as he doubled over and he realized at once that his body had become more rigid again.
4.  The draft is titled “stale chocolate”.  A small bit of original fiction I wrote a couple years back, and in a way, it almost feels complete as is.  I'm on the fence about whether or not I want to play around with it some more.
While Renee couldn’t remember the last time she had been there, she definitely recalled the way she had left – doors slamming, gritted teeth, acid tears burning the corners of her eyes, and the awful flavor of stale chocolate lingering on her tongue.
Indeed, it had been an unpleasant experience.  She had promised herself she would never go back there again.
It didn’t do well to dwell on the past, she reminded herself as she shifted in her seat on the bus. Knees closed, feet pressed together, posture erect, purse in her lap – she hated the overly formal stiff posture she had adopted in public since then.  Perhaps it was because she wanted to prove to herself that she still knew how to conduct herself.
Renee always thought of herself as a sensible, practical sort.  She didn’t read too much into daydreams, she always carried around something to write with, and she bought milk with the latest expiration date she could find on the shelf.
Perhaps practical and mature were two different categories altogether, she mused.
After all, an immature person could go off on a humiliating tirade and still buy fresh milk.

The Deal with the Yakuza (SKW2019d6)
Prompts:  Edelweiss - Power, Courage + Crossover/Fusion
AU/Fusion. 5,666 words.
Chie:  This is essentially a retelling of the first chapter of one of my favourite manga of all time: Tokyo Crazy Paradise.
I've (obviously) changed the characters to Inuyasha cast, and made some minor adjustments here and there, but the plot is all courtesy to Yoshiki Nakamura. (In advance to those who might want to ask for more, I don't intend to continue this fusion story any further BUT I thoroughly recommend you go and enjoy all 19 volumes of the awesomeness that is Kurepara.)
-------------------------------------------------------------
Once upon a time, Tokyo had been hailed as the safest city in the world.
And then the 21st century happened, bringing in the worsening climate change, rising inequality, weakening democracy, the struggling economics, growing global tensions and unrest, the discord between work and technology and the ever waning natural resources. And decade after decade, things grew worse.
As a result of all this, the Tokyo of 2050s was far from the safest city in the world: it had become a pale shadow of its former self.
In certain parts of the city the streets were a lawless jungle. And if there was a crime in process in the middle of the day, the passersby would turn and look the other way, pick up their pace and hurry past.
Higurashi Kagome had been five years old when her mother and father had pulled her aside for the talk that would change her life.
Both of her parents worked as police officers and had seen first-hand how cruel the world could be, especially towards women.
So they had explained to Kagome that from then on, they would disguise her as a boy and raise her the same as her brothers.
Her mother had crouched down in front of her, clutched her small shoulders and told her that she would grow up strong.
And so Kagome had.
Although on some days, it was harder to stay strong than on others.
Never had it been as hard as on this day, when she stood on the curb with her three brothers, clutching at what meagre possessions they had left, and staring at the door their landlady had just slammed at their faces.
It had been inevitable, really, Kagome had to admit to herself. They couldn’t pay rent themselves; all four siblings were still in school.
But the sudden change in demeanour was startling.
The landlady had always been nice to them before, but now that their parents were dead, she was suddenly treating them as if they were garbage.
“What are we going to do?” Shippou grumbled, plopping down to sit on the curb. “Unless we figure something out we’ll starve to death.”
Souta sat down next to his twin. “No generous relatives to swoop in to save us either. Maybe a rich person somewhere will take us in.”
“Maybe we’ll need to join a Yakuza gang, that’d at least put food on the table,” Shippou said.
Kagome perked up, her mind spinning.
“Don’t even joke about it,” Miroku scolded Shippou. “Yakuza are the reason our parents died, we’re not going to sell our souls to our parents’ enemy –”
“I’ve decided,” Kagome cut in, standing straight, hands propped on her hips. “I’m gonna sell my soul to the yakuza.”
-------------------------------------------------------------
Sesshoumaru sat at the head of the table, growing increasingly frustrated as his underlings went over the facts of the recent shoot out over again, debating which rivalling gang could have been involved in the altercation and the assassination that had cost his father’s life.
The discussion was going nowhere; gritting his teeth, he slammed his fist onto the table.
Dead silence filled the room, and the hardened criminals paled as Sesshoumaru directed his cold glare at them.
“So essentially what you’re saying is that you haven’t found anything yet,” he growled. “Quit playing around and find some answers!”
AhUn chose that moment to walk over. He bent down so he could whisper into Sesshoumaru’s ear.
“Boss, a friend of yours is waiting in the guest room.”
Sesshoumaru raised his eyebrow.
A friend?
As far as he knew, he didn’t have friends – he’d been groomed to become the successor of the largest Yakuza syndicate in Tokyo since he’d been in his diapers, that hadn’t really left him much time to make nice with people.
Still, it was clear the meeting wasn’t going anywhere and there were still no news about the incident that had led to his father’s death, so Sesshoumaru stood up, the legs of his chair screeching, and strode out of the room.
Sesshoumaru paused at the guest room door.
His ‘friend’ immediately greeted him, flashing him a smile.
Sesshoumaru swallowed a sigh. He hadn’t thought he’d ever see the day that Higurashi Kagome, the child of police officers, would willingly walk into the headquarters of the Kyuryuugumi syndicate.
And yet, he wasn’t at all surprised that this so-called friend had turned out to be Higurashi.
Sesshoumaru slanted a glance at the person on guard duty.
“Send them home.”
“Ah, Sesshoumaru-kun, don’t be so cold. Please listen to my story, I’m asking as your friend – we’ve been in the same class since the first grade and have sat next to each other for nine long years!”
“Friends?” Sesshoumaru scoffed. “We may have sat next to each other in class, but in all those nine years we’ve never spoken to each other.”
Kagome squirmed. “But you always kept to yourself…”
“Doesn’t matter,” Sesshoumaru said, turning away. “I don’t have any time to spare for a police brat.”
“I’m not really a police kid anymore, though,” Kagome said, half to herself. She slipped her hand into her trousers pocket, to touch the ring her parents had left her. “My parents, they were following a suspect while off duty and went to the place where your father got killed four days ago, and they…”
Sesshoumaru turned to face Kagome and walked over in quick strides.
“Did you see him?” he asked, the words coming out clipped with urgency. “The criminal? What do you know?”
Kagome wasn’t intimidated even when he was in full glower and towering over her.
“I’ll tell you all about it,” she promised, “but right now I’m hungry.”
Sesshoumaru’s hand balled into a fist.
So that’s how it was going to be, eh? Fine. If he could discover who his father’s killer was, feeding Kagome and her brothers would be a small price to pay.
“Very well. Follow me.”
   -------------------------------------------------------------
Kagome and her brothers had fully been intending to dine and dash, but as soon as they were finished eating, Sesshoumaru had rounded them up.
Maybe he had seen through her, or maybe there was no honour among thieves so he was suspicious by nature.
Whatever the reason didn’t change Kagome’s current predicament: She was locked in a room alone somewhere inside Tokyo’s biggest yakuza syndicate’s headquarters.
She hadn’t been exactly truthful earlier with Sesshoumaru either: her parents hadn’t told her anything about the case. Even though one day she wanted to join the police force like they’d had, didn’t mean that her parents would let her in on what they were working on; their first priority was keeping her and her brothers safe.
She wasn’t sure what she was going to do. She didn’t know where Sesshoumaru had taken her brothers.
To confess the truth or to continue the lie were equally dangerous paths to take.
For nine years, she had sat beside Sesshoumaru in class and he’d rarely shown any emotion. But when he had asked her if she’d seen the criminal, there had been something almost desperate in his eyes.
It seemed like he really wanted to catch his father’s killer.
Having all too recently lost her own parents – and most probably because of the very same culprit – Kagome could relate.
The lock clicked a moment before the door burst open.
Sesshoumaru walked into the room, all his attention focused on Kagome.
“Where are my brothers?” Kagome asked.
“They are safe – for now. But that can change very quickly, I promise you,” Sesshoumaru replied.
Kagome swallowed. Perhaps she had made a mistake coming to the yakuza after all, even to a gang led by her classmate.
“Now, if you want your brothers to remain in good health, you will tell me what you know about my father’s killer.”
Kagome bit her lip and avoided Sesshoumaru’s eyes.
“Don’t tell me you lied to me,” Sesshoumaru hissed from between gritted teeth.
Uh-oh. This was bad.
“What makes you think I lied to you?” Kagome said, nervousness bubbling up inside her.
“You glanced to the left just now. That’s always been your tell when you’re lying,” Sesshoumaru replied, each word heavy with accusation.
“Fine, okay,” Kagome babbled, close to panic now. “I don’t know anything about the case. But I saw a picture of the suspect once.”
Kagome was sure she saw murder in Sesshoumaru’s eyes.
“You saw a picture?” he repeated, his voice low and deadly.
Tears pricked Kagome’s eyes and she blinked them away.
“I will recognise him if I see him. I swear.” Voice trembling, she added: “Please.”
For a long tense moment, Sesshoumaru simply stood there, regarding her, assessing her.
“Fine. Then, starting tomorrow, you will be my bodyguard. After my father, I’m most likely to be the next target.”
Kagome stared at him, her mouth hanging open. That had not at all been what she had expected to hear.
Apparently, she wasn't the only one, because an evil-looking gang member who'd been passing by the guest room stopped in his tracks.
"An amateur kid from the streets? Recruited to be a bodyguard?" His eyes were cruel and his voice dripped with contempt. "Boss, you should take more care since your life's under threat."
"I’m a leader of a Yakuza syndicate, my life is always under threat," came Sesshoumaru's unconcerned reply. "And I know Kagome's skill. Walk on, Bankotsu."
The man bowed his head and walked away.
Kagome released the breath she'd been holding, shoulders slumping from relief.
She met Sesshoumaru's gaze. “You can count on me,” she promised.
“I know I can,” he replied coolly, “because until we have caught the killer, I’m keeping your brothers hostage.”
With that and one final glare, Sesshoumaru left the room.
-------------------------------------------------------------
The next day, when Kagome arrived to school together with Sesshoumaru, it sent their classmates into a confused uproar.
But Kagome barely noticed this: she had much bigger problems to worry about.
Problems that had nothing to do with her current predicament of getting entangled with the yakuza.
She had forgotten they were going to be swimming today for P.E.
Sesshoumaru picked up on her consternation, because he slanted her a glance.
“You’re looking pale, Higurashi,” he drawled. “Now that I think about it, you always seem sick when we have swimming in the curriculum. You’re always the last one to change, too.”
Kagome bit her lip but didn’t reply.
“I wonder why that is,” Sesshoumaru mused to himself, before heading towards the locker rooms.
Kagome sighed in relief that he hadn’t prodded the issue any further.
Her reasons for skipping out swimming in P.E. were valid, but not any she could confess to. She couldn’t compromise her disguise.
Besides, she couldn’t swim – she’d nearly drowned a few years back when she’d fallen into a river. Needless to say, Kagome didn’t have much fondness for water.
She waited until she was the last one around before slipping into the locker room to change into her gym clothes. She spent the lesson sitting to the side, and didn’t go back to the locker rooms and the showers until she was sure they’d been emptied out.
Only, this time she had miscalculated.
She was in the shower stall, just finished with her washing up, when she heard noise and voices.
Panicking, Kagome realised that some other class must have finished with their lesson and had come in to shower and change.
And there was no way to lock the stall door.
What should I do?! Please, please don’t let anybody try to come into my stall.
Of course, right on the heels of that desperate plea, there was shuffling noise directly outside her stall.
Kagome did all she could – she shielded her chest with one arm, while pulling the other one back, ready to punch the daylights right out of whoever had the misfortune of trying to come in.
The door opened.
She lunged into an attack like a coiled snake.
And at the very moment he casually dodged the strike, she realised she was face to face with Sesshoumaru.
He gave her naked body a dismissive once over.
“I see you haven’t thrown away your feminine side yet, trying to cover yourself up like that. Not very effective if you need to take someone down, though,” he said nonchalantly.
Then, he tossed her a towel, the protector she’d received from her parents to wear over her chest and her uniform.
He slammed the door shut and left, leaving a thoroughly flabbergasted Kagome behind.
She dressed slowly, too preoccupied by what just had happened and the implications of it.
How did Sesshoumaru know?
Moreover, had he known and actually come out of his way to deliver her things so she wouldn’t get caught?
Why would he had helped her keep her secret? If he’d known for some time, as his words seemed to suggest, why hadn’t he exposed her or tried to exploit her?
Naturally, when Kagome returned to the classroom and took her seat next to Sesshoumaru, she was feeling a little skittish.
When he turned to her, she actually flinched away from him.
The corner of his lips curled up. One haughty eyebrow rose.
“Why so cautious?”
He leaned towards her, the pose clearly meant to intimidate.
Sadly, it was working because Kagome definitely felt intimidated.
“You have no need to worry, Higurashi. Even if there was a shortage of women in this world, I wouldn’t lay a finger on someone like you.”
Kagome stared at him for a moment, dumbfounded.
Then she found her tongue.
“Oh, that’s right. You only go for the dumb, big-breasted type.”
Tempter flashed in Sesshoumaru’s eyes and the expression twisting his face could only be called a snarl.
Kagome was ready, her hand balled into a fist, but then Sesshoumaru shrugged and turned away, ignoring her for the rest of the class.
-------------------------------------------------------------
There was something about Higurashi Kagome, Sesshoumaru thought gloomily, as he was leaving school for the day.
Somehow, she could make him do things he wouldn’t normally do – like let her essentially blackmail him into feeding her family or go out of his way to save her sorry ass when she had got trapped in the shower stall.
It was probably those blue eyes of hers.
They were so damn expressive. Unlike him, she wore her heart on her sleeve.
But perhaps there was more to it than that, because even now, he was aware of her as she walked by his side.
That awareness distracted him, because he didn’t notice the danger until Kagome suddenly spoke up.
“Did we come with two cars this morning?”
Sesshoumaru looked ahead.
Sure enough, next to their car there was another vehicle parked.
“No, we didn’t,” came AhUn’s grim reply. He stepped in front of Sesshoumaru and Kagome, reaching into his jacket for his gun. “Leave this to us and escape, boss.”
Sesshoumaru didn’t bother replying. He simply jumped to the side, not a moment too soon because in the next second, bullets were flying and spraying everywhere.
He broke his fall smoothly and was up and running, sparing a quick glance behind to see Kagome still on the ground where she had thrown herself, grimacing.
“Get up, idiot, and hurry,” he commanded her, relieved when she pushed up and caught with him.
“Why are we running? Aren’t those the guys that you’re after?”
“They can’t be,” Sesshoumaru replied. “My father was shot with a single bullet to the heart. These sloppy bastards who’re lousy shots couldn’t have been behind the assassination.”
There were more thugs ahead, at least six men, and one of them was aiming straight at Sesshoumaru.
He dodged to the side and Kagome moved in tandem with him, pulling out her weapon.
The long chain flew out in a deadly arc, taking down two of the men.
Sesshoumaru went low, punched one of the thugs right in the gut and kept on running.
“Quit playing, Higurashi and come on!”
She scrambled to follow him.
Sesshoumaru came to halt. The thugs were still coming after them, but there was a river ahead. They’d been boxed into a corner, with only one way out.
Sesshoumaru’s jaw clenched.
“Jump in,” he told Kagome.
“Eh?!”
“Jump in!”
“But I can’t swim!”
“I know that! Just go!”
He gave her a good shove, then jumped after her.
It was no easy feat, making his way in the water.
The current was carrying him away from their pursuers at a rapid pace. His clothes and shoes were weighing him down. And once again, he had to save Kagome’s ass.
What a useful bodyguard she was turning out to be.
Once they were safely enough away, Sesshoumaru made it back to the bank. It was no easy feat to struggle against the pull of the current while dragging Kagome’s limp and unconscious form along, but he managed.
He pulled Kagome and himself out of the river, took a quick second to catch his breath, then unbuttoned Kagome’s uniform shirt in a quick, no-nonsense fashion.
He found the latch for her chest protector and pulled it off as well. She’d likely swallowed water going in, she didn’t need to have anything constricting her chest right now.
Seeing her lying there, prone and lifeless, was giving him a real sense of deja vu.
But there was no time to waste on pondering or reminiscing.
Sesshoumaru pinched Kagome’s nose, sealing her nostrils, and then leaned in to blow air into her lungs.
After two more long breaths Kagome’s eyelids fluttered.
Sesshoumaru sat back as she convulsed and coughed up water.
At least this time he hadn’t needed to go for full CPR.
Still coughing, Kagome sat up, disoriented, her chest heaving for breath.
It took her a moment to put together two and two, but when she did, she blushed madly, clutched her uniform shirt closed around her naked upper body and scooted away from Sesshoumaru.
Sesshoumaru shook his head.
“Looks like you haven’t improved at all since the last time.” He picked up the chest protector and offered it to her. “Hurry and put this on. We need to get back.”
-------------------------------------------------------------
Returning to the Kyuryuugumi’s headquarters, Kagome was more confused than ever.
She’d always believed that because Sesshoumaru was the heir to a yakuza clan and she’d been the kid whose both parents were in the police force, that Sesshoumaru would have hated her; seen her as his natural enemy.
But both his words and actions from earlier implied that when she’d fallen into the river a few years ago, it had been Sesshoumaru who had saved her.
That was how he knew her secret.
It was so much at once for her to wrap her head around – and it didn’t help that a part of her was still flustered that he’d seen her (half) naked twice in one day and given her mouth to mouth.
The moment they stepped on Kyuryuugumi’s grounds, Sesshoumaru’s two attendants Jaken and AhUn rushed over.
“Were you guys hurt?” Sesshoumaru asked, accepting a towel from AhUn.
“We’re all right,” he replied.
“Did you learn anything about them?”
“We weren’t able to catch them. It seemed like they wanted to scare us.”
“Hnn. If they wish to do that, they will have to try harder,” Sesshoumaru said.
“What about Hizakigumi? Aren’t they your rivals?” Kagome asked. “I remember my dad saying they were a big syndicate. What are the possibilities they were the one to kill your father?”
Sesshoumaru clenched his jaw, but didn’t reply.
“That’s not possible,” AhUn said. “Bankotsu and his men say it wasn’t Hizakigumi.”
Bankotsu? Kagome knew she’d heard the name before, but it took her a moment to connect it with the right memory. That guy passing by the guest room last night, with the mean eyes and the haughty sneer had been Bankotsu.
“I’m not sure I follow,” she said slowly. “If there are people who saw the perpetrators, couldn’t they describe what the killers looked like?”
“It was dark and they don’t remember the shooters’ faces,” AhUn explained patiently.
“Then how can they be sure it’s not Hizakigumi?” Kagome asked, genuinely baffled.
Sesshoumaru looked grim and shared a glance with AhUn, but before either of them had a chance to respond to Kagome, they were interrupted.
“Boss!” the guy from yesterday, Bankotsu walked over to them. “I’m so glad to see you’re all right; I heard you were attacked.”
“I’m fine, it was nothing,” Sesshoumaru said dismissively.
“If I may, I have a request to make.”
“Go on then, Bankotsu.”
A moment later, Kagome entered the Kyuryuugumi headquarters after Sesshoumaru, scowling at his back.
“I don’t like him,” she blurted out.
“Who, Bankotsu?”
“Yeah. His eyes are cruel.”
Sesshoumaru huffed. “We’re gangsters, we all have eyes like that.”
“I don’t like how he’s trying to look like a good person in front of you.” Kagome caught up with Sesshoumaru, stopped to stand in front of him so she could look him in the eye. “He’s the one who was there when your father was shot and he’s the one saying Hizakigumi isn’t responsible. Don’t you think it’s all a little suspicious?”
She was pleading with him, hoping he’d see reason. Kagome trusted her instincts, and now she needed Sesshoumaru to trust her.
“In the underworld, the punishment for betrayal is death,” Sesshoumaru said, his voice cold. “Therefore, I do not doubt my men when there is no evidence of wrongdoing.”
“Fine,” Kagome spat, angry at his stubborn reaction. “Then I’m going to find you proof.”
With that, she stomped away without a backward glance, feeling the weight of Sesshoumaru’s gaze prickling between her shoulder blades.
-------------------------------------------------------------
After his argument with Kagome, Sesshoumaru returned to his room, unsettled.
As a member of the underworld, confrontation wasn’t something that normally bothered him. But those damn blue pleading eyes of Kagome’s – there had been a look in them just then, imploring and so vulnerable that it had got under his skin.
Even though he’d just told Kagome that he would not doubt his own men, there was a nagging voice at the back of his mind that kept repeating Kagome’s arguments and saying there was definite logic to the questions she’d been asking.
There was a knock on the door and then AhUn stepped in.
“Boss, I just got a call from Bankotsu, he’s ready and coming to pick you up.”
“Very well,” Sesshoumaru replied. “Where’s Kagome?”
“Kagome left. He seemed to have some business to attend to.”
“What?” Sesshoumaru hissed. “What kind of business?”
“I have no clue,” Ah Un replied. “He requested an odd assortment of things and then just took off.”
Sesshoumaru pinched the bridge of his nose.
Kagome had left in a huff, telling him she’d go find proof. It couldn’t be that she…?
What was the idiot planning? Couldn’t she see what danger she was putting herself in?
The vehemence of that thought gave Sesshoumaru a pause. His hand balled into a fist.
If he was worried for her safety, didn’t that actually mean that he was starting to be persuaded by Kagome’s words and giving into doubt?
AhUn cleared his throat. “Boss, I’m sorry. I didn’t think to tell him you’d be leaving with Bankotsu. Should I have?”
Sesshoumaru shook his head and walked out.
He barely acknowledged the men he passed out in the hallway, who stopped to bow their heads to him in a sign of respect. His thoughts and feelings were all muddled right now, which wasn’t something he was used to.
And when he stepped into Bankotsu’s car, alone, he couldn’t help but wonder if he’d just made a huge mistake.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Kagome had thought that getting involved with the underworld and the yakuza would be something way out of her comfort zone but that had been nothing compared to this.
Heading to the Kyuryuugumi’s subclan headed by Bankotsu to prove her hunch she actually felt uncomfortable in her own skin.
She was certain she looked like a weirdo.
The irony of it all was that, in her current disguise, she felt like a crossdresser.
She had requested a bunch of items from AhUn and the attendant had got them for her, even if he had been very confused as to why she would need such things.
Kagome felt oddly exposed without her chest protector. The dress was weirdly clingy and alarmingly short. The long hair of the wig was annoying and the bangs were very distracting. The make-up felt strange on her skin, the jewellery was big and clunky.
It was just all too much, and very inconvenient, but if Sesshoumaru wanted proof, she could get it for him.
Although she wasn't sure why it was so important to her to prove that he should trust her.
Approaching Bankotsu’s subclan, she was met by two men standing guard near the entrance.
Kagome pulled her shoulders back and straightened. It was show time.
“Who are you?” one of the guards asked. “What are you doing here?”
“What do you mean by that?” Kagome snapped back, acting as if she owned the world. “When are you going to finish the job?”
“What?” the other guard exploded. “Who the hell are you?”
He grabbed Kagome’s arm.
Kagome yanked herself free and immediately retaliated with a powerful kick right into the guard’s stomach, making him double over.
She pulled out the gun replica AhUn had got her and pointed it at the gangsters. “It’ll be a problem for us if you take too long to do your part,” she said, hoping her hunch was correct and she’d get the answer she needed. “You know we’re looking to make an alliance with a large foreign syndicate.”
The first guard was looking her over, putting the clues together. “You’re Hizaki’s woman? Seems like you’re having some problems with communication, I just contacted Hizakigumi to tell them we’ll be finishing the boss off at the Red Cross building.”
“Hmph,” Kagome huffed, trying to stay in character even though inside she was panicking. “Never hurts to make sure, I’ll be passing the info along.”
Kagome sauntered away, her stomach heavy, her heart plummeting in her chest.
She’d been right, but at the same time it was even worse than she’d imagined. Bankotsu wasn’t the only traitor; his entire subclan was turning their coats.
Whatever vindication she might have felt about her instincts proving to be correct were now overshadowed with sheer dread.
Sesshoumaru would be so angry when he’d learn he had so many traitors in his clan – assuming that she wasn’t already too late to save him.
-------------------------------------------------------------
“I’m sorry, boss, that I sprang this meeting on you like this. It’s just that the client really wants to meet you,” Bankotsu said, offering him a smile.
Sesshoumaru did not respond.
The longer he’d sat in that car, the more resolved he’d grown.
When they pulled up was the moment he finally chose to speak.
“Say, Bankotsu… Don’t you think even my father could have been gunned down with a single bullet through the heart if the one to pull the trigger had been someone he’d up until then had believed to be his ally?”
“Please,” Bankotsu smiled, “the client is waiting.”
Sesshoumaru got out of the car and then stood there, stuffing his hands into his pockets.
He wasn’t very surprised to see the leader of Hizakigumi waiting for him with his men.
“Standing there as if you weren’t at all affected,” Hizaki said, “especially when you’re so young, it’s pretty impressive.”
Sesshoumaru stood still, while one of the thugs came over to strip him of his gun.
If he tried to reach for the weapon himself he’d be gunned down in a blink of an eye; there wasn’t much he could do against all these men alone.
“It’s nothing personal,” Hizaki grinned. “It’s Hizakigumi’s destiny to become the top syndicate in Tokyo.”
Sesshoumaru slanted a glance at Bankotsu, who stood next to him, holding a gun.
“Are you prepared to face the consequences of betraying your gang?” he asked him.
In response, Bankotsu pressed the muzzle of the gun against the back of Sesshoumaru’s head.
“No need to worry about me when you’re about to be killed,” he replied.
Hizaki’s smile was wide and smug. “Say hello to your father for me.”
“Goodbye, boss,” Bankotsu sneered. “That Higurashi Kagome will join you in no time.”
Up until then, Sesshoumaru had remained cool and collected.
But upon hearing those words, he simply reacted.
His elbow smashed into Bankotsu’s nose. It broke with a crunch and spray of blood, throwing the traitor off him.
Hizaki was much less sure about himself now, yelling orders at his men. “Fire! Surround him! Kill him!”
  -------------------------------------------------------------
“Come on,” Kagome muttered under her breath, sitting on the front seat of the car next to AhUn.
She’d hurried back to Kyuryuugumi, just to hear that Sesshoumaru had already left with Bankotsu.
Before that she’d wasted many precious long minutes finding AhUn, which hadn’t been easy when she had also been forced to dodge Kyuryuugumi’s guards. They hadn’t recognised her in her disguise and had tried to bar her entrance.
It had taken even longer to persuade AhUn and the rest of the clan that Sesshoumaru was in danger. After all, what proof did she have about Bankotsu’s betrayal, save for her word – the word of an outsider and the child of police officers – against that of the leader of a subclan.
Or so at least she had thought, until in frustration she had slammed her fist against the wall, accidentally activating the ring she’d been wearing; the ring she’d received from her parents and which had apparently contained a recording device.
They’d all heard, caught on the tape, a part of conversation sketching out the plan to take down Kyuruugumi.
She could only hope they still had time to thwart it.
-------------------------------------------------------------
When the bullets actually started to fly, they didn’t come out from the direction Sesshoumaru would have thought. All of a sudden, everything went into chaos.
Somehow, Kyuryuugumi was there, and the tables had been turned on Bankotsu and the Hizakigumi.
A black car pulled up, tires screeching, and even before the vehicle had fully stopped, a figure shot out from the front seat door, yelling fiercely.
It lunged straight past Sesshoumaru to plant a wicked high-kick on Bankotsu’s jaw, clocking him out and sending him flying.
Following the kick’s momentum, she gracefully pivoted on the spot, coming to a stop in a protective stance before Sesshoumaru.
For a few moments, the fight faded into the background. Sesshoumaru could only stare at the long dark hair flowing down her back, the red lipstick she’d put on and the long legs exposed by the dress she was wearing.
Dimly, he was aware that his men had subdued the people from Hizakigumi and taken Hizaki himself captive, and were now shouting questions at him, expecting further instructions on how to deal with their adversary.
But when his eyes were locked with Kagome’s it was all too easy to tune it all out.
She looked nothing like the Higurashi Kagome he’d known most of his life, yet at the same time she looked very much like a woman he’d like to get to know.
Later, when they’d wrapped up the mess at the Red Cross building and returned to Kyuryuugumi, it had been both a relief and a disappointment to see Kagome return to her typical choice of clothing: the boy’s school uniform.
She’d also removed the wig and her make up and put the chest protector back on.
Even so Sesshoumaru was now more aware than ever of just what she was hiding under that pretence of being a boy.
“Did you really show no expression on your face even when they were aiming guns at you?” Kagome wondered aloud. “I mean I know you’re not supposed to. AhUn told me on the drive over about how you were raised to be the next leader and gain the respect of the gang so it makes sense… But still!”
“Hnn,” Sesshoumaru replied. Then, he looked at her. “Your expression would change all the time. It was kind of fascinating. You were always making friends wherever you went, and even my eyes were drawn towards you in the classroom.”
“That’s funny,” Kagome said after a while. “I kept an eye out on you too, you know. You were always poking at your lunch by yourself. You had this dark look in your eyes, as if you’d never had any fun in your life. Often I wanted to just come over and talk to you, but my parents… Well.” Kagome shrugged. “I’m glad I finally did.”
She turned to him and smiled – and though it was very, very slight, he smiled back.
“Well, I shall keep my word,” Sesshoumaru said at last. “You helped me find my father’s killer, so your brothers can now go free. There’s only one thing.”
Kagome crossed her arms. “And what is that?”
“This,” Sesshoumaru said, pulling out a cheque and handing it over to Kagome.
Her eyes bugged out when she saw the number scribbled on it.
“W-what’s this?”
“That’s the amount for which your brothers ate and drank on my expense while they were in our custody. And I’m having you pay back every yen.”
“You’re a heartless monster!” Kagome accused, gnashing her teeth. “Where do you think I am going to get this kind of money? I came to you in the first place because I was broke!”
Sesshoumaru arched his eyebrow and gave her a long look.
“Well, if you don’t have the money, you could always pay with your body.”
Kagome stared at him, stunned.
Then she straightened and proffered her hand to him.
“All right! Until the debt is paid, I’ll be your bodyguard.”
So that’s how she took it, Sesshoumaru mused. If nothing else, it would be very entertaining having Kagome around.
He took her hand in his and gave it a firm shake.
“Deal.”

Hijack Week June 2019 Day 6 : Mythological Creatures AU
Summary : In my bathtub lives a young man with white hair. He has been living for a short time, he only comes out very rarely, the air alters him and if he does not quickly return to the bath, he risks fainting or perhaps even dying... Why is he staying in my bathtub? Well, to put it simply: He's an octopus man.
We met one month ago, one evening, which logically would be more like the morning, after midnight, I had wanted to go swimming. It was summer, so there were a lot of people in the daytime and I'm not a fan of people, you could say I'm a little antisocial, and that's fine with me. But even during the evening the lagoon was infested with no one equipped with lamps and others on their boat in the middle of a search. I didn't understand why, for me, it was either drunk people who acted like jerks or the crab fishing that takes place at this time of year. And after looking for a moment for a quiet place surrounded by vegetation where you couldn't even see the inhabitants anymore, I found it. The upper part of his body was out of the water, clinging with one hand to a rock, so I hadn't seen anything in particular, except for a man seriously injured in his left arm who was losing consciousness. Then when he came out, it was a surprise. He looked like a human, until I saw the beginning of his thighs where eight huge, long tentacles, four for each, replaced his legs. He hadn't tried anything, he was just too exhausted to try anything, I don't even think he was actually conscious, so bandaging his arm with my shirt and bringing him to my car was pretty simple. I mean, simple, it's a very big word. It was just necessary to avoid all his assholes who chased him, to carry him without making his condition worse, and to hold a slippery body is not an easy thing, and especially to get him back in the car. Why did I do that? I was. . . Panicked. And I was afraid for him. If they had found him, they would probably have killed him or else they would have wanted to study him, lock him in a small cage when hundreds of eyes are watching him no matter what he does and when seeing him alive would not be interesting anymore, they would open his body to see how he works. Why would you want to deprive a creature of its freedom? Just in the name of science? It was and will be without me. When I got home, I hurried to put him in my bathtub and heal him, as his tentacles had also been damaged, and then put a little water on the bottom so that he would not dry out. The questions about what he was were spinning in my head, but before that, I wanted to make sure he felt comfortable. I didn't know if tap water was good for him, logically yes, but I didn't know what to do at the time so I just took as many empty coke bottles as I could, that I kept in reserve, which I was supposed to fill with water originally, threw them in the car and went to fill them with sea water. When I come home, we had our first face-to-face meeting. . . . An exchange that was. . . a little brutal. We were both terrified, me by this mystical creature, naked, who was moving and that I didn't know, except from the monstergirl fanart on the internet, and him by a member of the species who had attacked him, in addition to being in a place that he didn't know. Our first reflex was to back away, going up to the wall and then he started to attack. My reflexes were sharp, I had narrowly avoided his. . . His. . . Leg. However, it was my poor door that was hit hard, exploding suddenly. It didn't take me long to run away from the room with a scream. I'm a very. . . Brave person, I guess you could say. But I didn't particularly want to end up like my door. He had also followed me, walking on the ceiling, and tried to hit me, and although slipping to the ground, this time his blow was likely to hit me, he too picked himself up as he screamed in pain as he held a tentacle. The idiot had reopened his wounds. Once again, I don't know what had gotten into me, but I dropped the runing away to go see him and heal him again, after reassuring him and building his confidence, although I had taken a sticky slap, less strong than I expected, probably due to his condition, to bring him closer. After a few seconds, he let himself be carried out, held back from the moans of pain and finally returned to the bathtub now filled with sea water, without taking his eyes off me. That night, neither of us slept for a second.. My main reason was to make sure that his condition did not regress, the other was a mixture of fear and excitement. He was fascinating. The next few days were a little. . . . difficult. The food, the hygiene needs, not to mention the fact that I had a job nearby. I had found him at the end of my holidays so I had three days left to try to explain some things that would make our lives easier before I left home all morning. I didn't want to imprison him, just wait for him to heal completely before giving him his freedom back, so I was a little afraid that he would try to leave the house and get caught outside, but apart from visiting the house, leaving traces on the floor and ceiling, he never tried to leave. He was well aware of the danger waiting for him outside. The communication was also hard, he seemed to understand me, but he didn't speak. I thought that was normal, you could say he came from the marine world, so the probability that we would have the same language would have been surprising. At least, that's what he had led me to believe during the first two weeks of his cohabitation. He spoke and in several dialects! He had a native language, unknown to the human race, but knew about ten of them who had spent a good part of his adolescence learning them and had quickly explained that the humans’ world fascinated him and a mermaid friend, even if much less since that night. Which was more or less understandable. His name was Jack, one of the few things I knew about him, had not been able to resist coming to the citizens he thought were friendly, but as soon as the tentacles showed, there was panic. If we were in Japan, I could have been very scared. Maybe. Although we had become a little sympathetic over the time he was healing, we avoid communicating too much, even looking at himself, I think he regretted having made so much noise and caused problems, but I was afraid to want to study him too much, to flood him with questions and to talk to him. Maybe one day when we would be a little more comfortable, we'll exchange more. Then when he was completely cured, that is, at the end of the month, I took him away to give him his promised freedom, but when he saw the watched and infested beach of hunter-fishermen, this idea was forgotten for the time being. Apart from Toothless, I had no close friends, and I watched the news very rarely, but after a trip on youtube, I learned that Jack was nicknamed “Casper the octopus boy" probably in comparison to the species of the same name, and he was popular with all fanatics of strange facts and mystical creatures. And although some people shouted “fake" in the comments and forums dedicated to him, the majority believed in it and had the firm intention of seeking it. Although I was lucky not to be noticed, it was the shit anyway. In the end, Jack was going to live indefinitely in my bathtub.                                                                        ~ ~ ~ The story is inspired by a manga / anime yaoi “Orenchi No Furo Jijou" if you want to laugh, go see it's just great. (a little short though) Thanks to my boyfriend for the trad ♡

Isayama Hajime Holds Autograph & Q&A Session in Oyama, Oita on March 3rd, 2018
As announced on his most recent blog entry, Isayama Hajime held his latest autograph session in his hometown of Oyama, Oita, Japan!
The lucky fans who were able to attend shared various photos of his sketches and signatures, as seen above. Separate sessions were held with different groups of fans within a room in the onsen resort where the event took place. Each group had 30 minutes to ask him questions and receive illustrations. A total of 30 chosen participants were divided up into 6 groups of 5.
Isayama’s answers to various fan questions are as below (Note: These are fan accounts):
About Levi and the other characters’ updated looks: Levi’s cape is a new, black one. However, Levi couldn’t adapt to the other changes, so he kept his uniform and blades. Kawakubo Shintaro (Isayama’s editor) didn’t want any visual changes for the characters - he even wanted Eren to stay clean-shaven. However Isayama decided to not “shave” Eren too much.
On Older Eren: 19-year-old Eren’s height is 183cm - the same as Grisha. However, Isayama states that Eren was more like Carla when he was younger. [T/N: Grisha is actually 182cm, so Isayama may have misremembered here. Zeke however is 183cm.]
On Erwin’s Burial: The Survey Corps had to move on quickly to fight further after Battle of Shiganshina, but Levi later returned and brought back Erwin’s skeletonized body with him/buried him. Though a lot of soldiers perished, there was a special memorial service for Erwin.
On Horoscopes: Neither Eren nor Jean’s birthdays were decided through horoscope characterizations/stereotypes.
On Levi’s Father: Isayama has no plans to draw Levi’s father in the manga. He’s not anyone significant - Isayama thinks he was probably just a short guy.
On Levi’s Cape (Again): The question was what Isayama thought of fans thinking that the cape belonged to Erwin. Isayama states that there is a sense that Levi dyed the green cape into a black color. He doesn’t know whose cape it was, but if it belonged to Erwin, Isayama doesn’t think the size would’ve worked for Levi.
On New Character Designs (Again): Why didn’t Levi’s change much compared to the 104th? Isayama says he wanted to show that the 104th trainees belong to the “Smartphone Generation,” but Levi decided to stay with his “Flip Phone.” Levi doesn’t understand the younger generation, and he is turning into an old man (Literally “Oji-san”).
On Erwin: Will Erwin appear in the manga again, even if just for one panel? Isayama says he thinks there are still chances, such as in flashbacks.
On Levi’s Eyesight: Levi’s vision is measured at 2.0
Hardcore Eren: If Eren goes to karaoke, what type of songs will he sing? Isayama: “Metal.”
General Eren Facts: Besides now standing at 183cm, Eren is also a heavyweight drinker (Doesn’t get drunk easily) and good at cleaning. He is now influenced by a lot of the memories he retained, and he determinedly chopped off his own leg before entering Marley. His irises are a grey-ish color and his bloodtype is B.
Toying with His Editor:  "Will you be happy with developing the future plot similar to how you drew the story so far?" Isayama: "Yes! But I want to see the readers anticipating [the upcoming plot].” Kawakubo: "Like he said, I've been saying the same thing! Everyone is looking forward to it." Isayama: "...Then I'll change the story."
Eren & Elysium: When Eren asked Falco "Is that person...a girl?", he was under the influence of other people's memories (Possibly Grisha in that moment). The new Survey Corps uniform was inspired by Matt Damon’s external armor/exoskeleton in Elysium (Below). When asked about the members going to the restroom, Isayama: “It would be better to open a hole in that design...”
Tumblr media
Lots More Information: Isayama on Eren’s bloodtype - "Because this is a fantasy series, maybe there are not only 4 blood types. But then again, are they even counted as human...?" [T/N: This somewhat contradicts the earlier fan account where Isayama said outright that Eren’s bloodtype was B...]. “What will Levi think of Eren’s current look?” Isayama (Without hesitation): “Dirty.” [T/N: As in unclean, of course] "Was it Eren's own idea to grow his hair long?" Isayama: "Right now he is in a state where he is no longer paying attention to how people view him, so he just let it grow out." "Did Eren consider the fact that he will be infiltrating Marley when he grew out his hair?" Isayama: “Since he was supposed to be a hospitalized patient, he actually should’ve kept a cleaner hairstyle.” [T/N: A little vague, but this basically sounds like Eren didn’t mean to grow his hair out as a disguise] “Were there any cases of when you let the characters’ behavior and dialogue develop organically?”
Isayama: “In general, I let the characters evolve on their own. I don’t remember things after I draw them. I can’t look at my storyboard calmly right after I finish them, so Bakku-san (Kawakubo) is the one who reads them objectively.” “Following up on that answer: Bakku-san will immediately read your storyboard (In less than one day) after you submit them to him?” Isayama: “Since he has been waiting for the storyboard to arrive, in most cases he will read them in one or two hours after I give them to him.” “Did they (Eren and Levi) resolve the confusion of when Eren said ‘midget old man (chibi oyaji)’? Or did Eren apologize?” Isayama: “Levi is not concerned about being referred to that way. But after Eren said it and Levi thought about the moniker by himself later, he seemed hurt. He probably thought “So Eren sees me like that….” “Any plan to draw the four-year period back on Paradis island?”
Isayama: “That’s something I can’t tell you for now. (Kawakubo also chimed in here and said: “Isayama-sensei won’t tell you anything, but please look forward...”) “Kenny said he will never go to a brothel. Does Levi think the same way?” Isayama: “Because it’s an environment that Levi had been part of since childhood, it seems like he considers prostitution as just another ordinary job.” “What is Eren’s current body weight?” Isayama: “If I have to answer that now - he indeed gained some weight because he has grown taller. However, he has a rather slender body.”
Chef Levi: “When the characters lived in the castle [T/N: Not sure if this meant Utgard or the SC headquarters], who made the meals?”
Isayama: “Everyone. Everyone knows how to cook, because they are soldiers.”
“So it doesn’t matter if someone is a new cadet or not?” Isayama: “Ohhh. In that sense, maybe those who are in higher ranks don’t cook.” “Then can Levi cook?” Isayama: “I think he can.” “Does he hold the knife in a reverse fashion?” Isayama: “He holds it the normal way. If he holds a cooking knife in reverse, he would just seem like a cocky person (Laughs}.”
Bloodtypes (Again): “Please tell me the blood types of Shingashina Trio.”
Isayama: “If we are talking in the sense of normal blood types, then Eren is B, Armin is O, and Mikasa AB.”
Anime Changes: “At the end of Season 1′s OP, Eren’s eyes turned red. Was it an effect of him turning into his titan form?” Isayama: “It’s because the anime was completely at director Araki’s discretion. In the original work, it was not designed like that.”
Eren, Levi, & Cleaning: “I feel that Eren has been together with the Captain for a long time. Will their actions or language be influenced by one another?” Isayama: “For Eren, [the thing that influences him the most is] the cleaning. It is not because he likes cleanliness, but more that he has to do it - otherwise he will get scolded.” “Does Eren have a cleaning skill he is very good at?” Isayama: “It would be that — dusting. [T/N: Isayama’s original word here means “beating/knocking and dusting”. It can mean dusting general objects or dusting a futon, during which you hang the material outside. Judging from his next sentence saying Eren could make a stick for cleaning, Isayama was likely referring to him beating a futon and dusting it that way.] Maybe he would make a stick from tree branch and then wrap it with clothing or cotton.” “Then how will Levi react to it?!” Isayama: “Ohh, wouldn’t Levi want to see it (Laughs)? Although he wouldn’t consider it as good work, he would be quite surprised [T/N: There is a sense of “caught off-guard” in his feeling].”
Another Character Death: “There have been a lot of character deaths up to now. Is anyone going to die in the future?” Isayama: “I don’t even know, but I’ve decided for one person to die. It’s  like when I draw the storyboard and I suddenly realize - ‘Huh? [This person] just died?’ But for other characters, I still don’t know.”
High School AU: “The High School AU is very popular among fans. Will you make it into a complete story?” Kawakubo: “Isayama-sensei is very into the idea of doing a spin-off.” Isayama: “I’m very concerned about its quality. I think I can only do that if I have the chance to learn about American culture in-depth, and draw it in a detailed fashion.”
Levi in the High School AU: “What’s the color of janitor Levi’s jumpsuit in SnK High School AU?” Isayama: “Deep blue. I based its model on the game Life is Strange.”
On Fanworks:  “Have there been times where you came across ‘secondary creations’ of your work (e.g. Donjinshi and/or fanart)? If so, what perspective do you have of them?”
Isayama: “There are times when I have come across them. That alone has already made me happy. Like, people are creating new types of ‘fun’ out of Shingeki. I don’t mind no matter how you are having fun with it.”
On SnK’s Manga’s Ending Date: “Have you decided on when to finish this series? Have you ever considered timing its completion with the Tokyo Olympics (In 2020) somehow?” Isayama: “I'm now working on the manga without any decision about the ending date. But [Kawakubo and my] shared idea is to finish it quickly. Five years ago, we decided to finish the series in three years (Isayama and Kawakubo laugh together).”
Erwin as a Character: “What’s the role of Erwin in the work Shingeki no Kyojin?” Isayama: “For the protagonists, it is necessary to have a charismatic superior, and that ;person is Erwin. I think he never broke into cold sweat. It would be wrong for him to get that nervous/anxious.”
Revisiting Erwin and Bertholt in Flashbacks: “I find it hard to draw Erwin in flashbacks, because I feel there was already a perfect ending for him. But for Bertholdt, I haven’t finished drawing him…”
Bertholt’s Family: “To be honest, I didn’t think much about his family. If I’m going to consider it right now, he is probably performing his tasks (e.g. Being a child warrior) for the sake of his father.”
Why Bertholt was Chosen for Colossal Titan: “He had his own hidden opinion towards the fact that he was asked to take on the most important responsibility. Well, I think [it’s because] he could do anything [physically], so [he might think] ‘I can also grow mentally stronger in the future [by doing this].’”
On Character Deaths: “But I don’t think the characters literally ‘died.’ Even if they died in the story...well...they still often appear somewhere else. [T/N: We’re not sure if he meant they would appear in the story again or appear in another form, such as in the anime or merch]
Kawakubo is Nervous About these Q&As (LOL): “Things like this… I… I am not remembering all the things Isayama-kun is saying here. There is going to be trouble for me later when we make guidebooks for things like birthdays or other stuff.”
Janitor or Thief?: In the High School AU where Levi entered Eren’s room, he entered through the window.
Eren & Alchol (Again): “Does 19 y/o Eren drink alcohol?” Isayama: “I think he drinks, but how should I put this…there is ‘compliance’ in the manga industry regarding adolescent law [T/N: To prohibit mangaka from drawing illegal situations. In this case, the legal age in Japan to drink alcohol is 20]. Maybe it would be fine to draw alcohol? As long as it is not in the anime.”
On Spin-Offs (Also combining this Tweet): “How should we consider the relationship between SnK spin-offs and the original manga?” Kawakubo: “Kyojin Chuugakkou (Jr. High)’s author had creative freedom.” Isayama: “Regarding ACNWR, I talked roughly in advance with the author about things that could happen in the underground world.” [T/N: OP mentioned her memory was not clear and she could be wrong] Isayama’s own design was that Erwin noticed thug Levi in the underground and decided to draw him into the Survey Corps.
On Levi’s Return: “Recently I haven’t been drawing Levi in the manga. Sorry that I drew a far too smooth/straightforward return for him when I finally made him appear again.”
On Mike’s Death: “What were the feelings of Levi and Erwin and others when they heard of Mike’s death? It was necessary to have their feelings depicted in the manga, right?” (Kawakubo smiled bitterly) Isayama: “Why did I rush that back then and not draw it properly?” Kawakubo: “It was too early for a good person to die.”
Clarifying Erwin’s Burial Further: Levi carried back Erwin’s bones and then everyone buried him together.
On Erwin and Levi Touching Hands: “When entrusting the syringe and serum, was there any meaning behind the scene when Erwin and Levi’s hands touched each other’s?” Kawakubo (Laughing): “Are you asking about Isayama-san’s meaning or Erwin and Levi’s meaning?” Isayama: “There is no particular meaning. In reality, if this were two real people, it would also be normal for them to touch hands…”
On Erwin’s Mom: When asked about Erwin’s mom’s story... Isayama: “I’ll start thinking about it from now on." Kawakubo: “We need to have a memopad here [for him to help Isayama keep track of all his responses/new ideas].”
On Names: “What was your reason to use German names such as Yeager and Ackerman? Because of the words’ feeling?” Isayama: “In most cases, I learned about or searched for their meanings after I found their pronunciations to be captivating. Doesn’t the German language sound cool?”
On the Setting: The model of the SnK anime is Germany, but for the manga, it’s not only Germany but a mix of countries. Isayama also referenced castles in Portugal.
More About Levi: “Levi’s face resembles his mother, but his height is like his father?” Isayama: “Yes. I drew Levi’s great-grandfather with the sense that he would look like Levi with a beard, so Levi resembles his great-grandfather.” “Sometimes Levi’s bangs seem weird. Why is that?” (This was in reference to the sketch she received) Isayama: “That’s…’bed hair’…” “Does the Captain get angry?” Isayama: “I feel that he gets angry… quite often.” “Even in private?” Isayama: “Yah. He can get grumpy for whatever reason…”
Erwin & the New Gear:  Erwin has high alcohol tolerance. The new Survey Corps uniform is made of leather. The anti-personnel vertical maneuvering equipment is easier to master than the original 3DMG, so it’s carried by a lot of new soldiers during the Marley battle. Overall, the maneuvering equipment is getting lighter and lighter.
New Gear & Isayama:  For Levi and Sasha (Plus others) - characters who have specialties - they choose equipment based on their own preferences. Erwin, Levi and Magath don’t break into cold sweats. The food Isayama likes is Famichiki (See this post for reference). The sightseeing spot Isayama likes is Shimantogawa (In Kochi prefecture)
On Floch: “Will Floch be the ‘cause’ of anything later in the manga?” Isayama: “Are you asking about the meaning of his name?” “Ah…no, I am asking about his mere existence…” Isayama: “Yep, he will have a very important role.” “!!! You mean he will have a ‘wild card’ kind of role?” [T/N: OP was referring to a figurative role, i.e. Floch being a plot device in a literary or theater work; Thanks @darlingpoppet for this tip] Isayama: “Yes.” [T/N: Isayama answered this question without hesitation]
On Chapter 84: “What is the metaphorical meaning of the Chapter 84 title ‘Midnight Sun’?” Isayama: “The basic idea of the title is that ‘[The sky is] bright even in a dark night.’ Bright, like the sun does not set. In other words… Erwin’s death means the sun has set. But in fact, it still feels like the ‘Sun’ never sets. The title sort of contains this message.”
Also on Chapter 84:  "What were the 104th thinking at that time [When Bertholt tried to speak to them]?" Isayama: "Hmm, they seemed to just feel “Oh...” about whether Armin could be saved or not. Though Bertholt was confounded and pleaded for help, I think they wished for him to stop."
Erwin’s Burial:  “Does Erwin have a tomb?” Isayama: “I think he was buried. Recently I’ve been thinking that I have to draw it…But maybe I didn’t want to draw a mourning scene for a specific character, because I have this problem of not wanting to treat someone too differently from other soldiers...”
Death Scenes: “I think you drew Erwin’s and Armin’s death with great detail. Did you decide how to illustrate those scenes from the beginning?” Isayama: “Yes. I decided on them quite a long time ago. I’ve been drawing just for these moments to come.”
Jean & Bertholt: "Do Jean and Bert have others that they have crushes on?" Isayama: "Ah...I think what I've drawn so far is just how it is...I don't think there are any others..."
PERHAPS MOST IMPORTANT, this was Isayama’s Disclaimer at One of the Sessions: “Ultimately, the story resembles a living creature in the way it evolves. My answers during this autograph event are just some of all the possibilities that can happen. I hope you can ask questions while having this idea in mind.” [T/N: Isayama, forever the King of Vagueness]

The Prince and the Bride
A Revolutionary Girl Utena Voltron AU
Rating: G
Pairings: Keith/Lance... smidge of Lance/Lotor
Length: 1,293 words
Tags: Angst, Pining, Power Dynamics
Notes: A scene I could imagine happening in Utena
Keith - Utena; Lance - Anthy; Lotor - Akio
Keith stumbled into a dark room, forcing himself not to slam the door behind him. He pulled air deep into his lungs, trying to smother the spark that wanted to lash out and burn.
He’d spent the day annoyed with the teachers needling him about his sad past, grimly interested by the tragedy of his parents’ death.
Then he was badgered by the tittering girls who flocked around him admiring his strange red jacket and gloves, pulling at his arms and shoulders, fluttering their eyes and leaning on him.
“Keith, do you know where the bathroom is? I can show you, I don’t mind.”
“Keith if you get detention because of your uniform, I’ll wait outside the school for you!.”
“Have you ever heard the song Afternoon Delight? We should listen to it together, it’s a classic, tee hee...”
As innocent or brazen as the girls were, he already knew that he’d have trouble with the guys in the school. They had started out fine, if a little awkward with all the attention he had been showered with.
But then he had schooled them at basketball, having years of practice at boys’ and girls’ clubs and foster care, and then he had ripped down a letter that had made that girl Florona burst into tears and run off.
That was probably related to his sudden and overwhelming popularity with the female students if he thought about it.
But by the end of his first day to say Keith was persona non grata among the boys at Ohtori was to put it mildly.
But it was fine, he’s used to that kind of crap.
He could handle being disliked. He was comfortable with it.
I didn’t make it into Ohtori because of friends, he thought, spinning the rose signet ring on his hand.
He’d made it to find the person who’d given him the greatest gift almost a decade ago; that special person who’d given him a ring, kissed away his tears, and told him to never lose his nobility.
He’d find that person, or Prince if his childish daydreams could possibly be right, and he’d thank them for teaching him to live with his whole heart and no regrets lingering behind.
I’m here now, at Ohtori. I followed your clues… now when are you going to find me?
The sound of delicate chords shook him from his reverie and Keith realized that he wasn’t alone, tensing. Waiting a minute and then two it became clear that the musician didn’t know he was there.
He peered around the corner to see a person he didn’t recognize practicing in the dim light of an overhead window.
Long dark fingers moved delicately, like magic, against the stark black and white keys.
Keith looked up to see a slim young man in the simple Ohtori boys uniform and round glasses, eyes focused on the papers in front of him. He hadn’t noticed him during the day but as his eyes lifted to the top of the next page, he’d wondered how that was with his delicate features and strange blue eyes.
The student had a somber expression but his eyes crinkled, like he was about to laugh or cry.
He shifted to stay hidden as the student reached the end of his piece and pulled his glasses off his face to clean them. He showed no sign of any pleasure or disappointment with his performance. His face was smooth and empty of emotion, except for his cold blue eyes.
Keith was not musical but to him the performance had been flawless.
Just as he was steeling himself to turn the corner and talk to this strange boy, another voice rose up behind him and he turned to see who it was. He had to stifle his gasp with his own hand.
A handsome, broad-shouldered man walked up behind the pianist, dressed like a prince. Everything about him looked glamorous from his violet silk shirt to his silvery hair, bound in a curling ponytail. His skin was dark like the other boy’s and he had blue eyes but other than that there was little resemblance.
Could it be him?
His fingers curled around the student’s neck and hair, toying and petting it. He kept his smiling eyes fixed on the keys as he leaned heavily over.
The whole scene looked like it had been taken from a book of fairy tales, down to the beams of light illuminating the dark theater and the motes of dust drifting around and the memory of the somber piano notes still in his head.
At the same time Keith was overcome with the familiar aroma of his letters, a smell he hadn’t told anyone about. He turned around, stunned, looking for the Prince with the scent of roses.
But there was no one behind him.
Is this real? Or is it a dream?
“My dear, sweet Lance, a perfect performance as always. Big brother is so proud of you.”
Brother?
Keith focused on the dashing man again, his voice was bold and accented, naturally elegant.
Was it familiar or was he caught up in the scene unfolding before him?
But when he looked at the student called Lance, he noticed that despite a faint blush, he hadn’t moved an inch, gazing only at his lap. The look in his eyes was indecipherable.
Was he happy or sad? He didn’t seem uncomfortable. Could he be enjoying the attention?
Much, much later Keith would wonder why he hadn’t recognized the dominant posture or the predatory attitude.
Why the student allowed this person to run his hands all over him...
Why the man seemed comfortable handling his brother like a doll...
But he shone so brightly it was hard to notice anything except his perfection and that familiar, comforting scent.
The mysterious man draped himself further on Lance’s back and a hand dropped down to his lap to pull the glasses and cloth away. He finally rested his graceful fingers over Lance’s eyes, who sat straight as a board, though trembling. His long hair was falling over Lance’s shoulder.
Keith wondered how it would feel in his hands, his heart pounding wildly.
“But I know you can do better. I want to hear more emotion. Won’t you do as brother asks, precious Lance?” He rested his cheek on the chestnut brown hair, with a rakish smile.
Keith couldn’t tear his eyes away from the man’s princely demeanor or Lance’s red cheeks.
I shouldn’t be here, Keith thought to himself but he didn’t move away.
Lance raised his hands to the keys, despite being unable to see, and oriented himself by lightly touching a few, the tones falsely loud in the quiet room.
And then he moved his hands and the same song he’d been playing minutes ago pieced itself together better than before, despite its perfection.
The quiet notes were delicate and soft and the stronger notes rang forcefully in the silence. Where the song had been slow it was plaintive, and where the notes were faster, Lance rushed along frenetically, moving his hands swifter than Keith thought possible.
The music swelled to a crescendo, and together with the infuriating scent, overwhelmed him.
He dashed out of the side door, not caring that they must have heard him or that the music had come to a sudden stop.
Keith had to find out more about the mysterious man, the one who looked and smelled like the Prince of his dreams.
It can’t be a coincidence.
Keith kept running, desperately trying to calm himself.
I’ll have to ask Katie, she knows everyone....
He forced himself to remember the man’s every detail  as he ran to the dormitories.
The Prince who rescued me… could it be you?
And Keith began to forget the other person in the scene -  oddly blank expression and troubled blue eyes and even the name, Lance, pushed to the back of his memory.
Note: This is NOT a scene from the Revolutionary Girl Utena movies or manga or anime. I could just picture Akio doing this to Anthy and then my brain substituted Voltron.
Also this is the piece that Lance plays.

Note
Unpopular (?) opinion: Most of the Devilman sequels, spin-offs, AU’s and what-have-you that Uncle Go has done over the years are actually quit terrible, and Devilman Crybaby was better off ignoring later established canon.
Yuasa didn’t “ignore” them, in fact, he incorporated things and changes from spinoffs, sequels and adaptations, including the whole “God (or Satan in Violence Jack) makes a new planet/Earth” after the last one is destroyed, Miki is Akira’s childhood friend (she wasn’t in the manga, she was an acquaintance at best before he started living with the Makimuras not so long ago), the track and field  stuff of the live action adaptation, the “Jinmen” attacks Akira’s mother from the OVA, the original is fiction within this setting from Devilman Lady (in Lady case, it was the manga being a manga and now is the TV show being a TV show), the bike scene with Miki and Akira is a reference to Amon OVA and the TV series ending too, etc.
Crybaby didn’t ignore anything, Yuasa did his own thing with what he thought was a theme that he wanted to explore, which was IMO unfortunately cripled by Okouchi using his usual stereotypes of main characters and tried to pass them as “Akira”, “Miki” and “Ryo”. It’s very obvious they have more in common with his Valvrave cast with even less depth and layers (‘cause he was also tied to a general plot) than Devilman one. In all, I think Crybaby’s weakness is that Yuasa and Okouchi didn’t have a good chemistry as a team.

A Fic Year in Review - 2017
dear god this was the busiest year i’ve had yet. let’s see how i did fic-wise!! :D and, as always, concrit and comments are welcome ♥
January
to win the hand of pasithea
this fic was hecka fun to read, not so much to write. the first, extremely silly draft was written while on a red eye cross-continental flight, and i had to post in time for the exchange it was for. luckily hallie was really patient as i cobbled together this marichat/ladynoir fusion nonsense during the next couple of months :’)
February
volpina ladrien drabble prompts (8/9):
no clothes
manga
i managed to squeeze in a few drabbles between an increasingly stressful school workload and my own brain turning against me (more than usual)
March
nothing posted this month, thanks again to the double whammy of school and depression :/
April
volpina ladrien drabble prompts (9/9):
the love at first sight/fish tank scene from romeo+juliet
I WAS. SO HAPPY TO FINISH THIS DRABBLE SET. i actually watched the entire movie for this drabble and ended up loving both, it’s a great scene and i think i did a good job with it :D
May
mlnsfweek prompts (3/3):
walking in on
"nice rose, but get off my bed"
dry humping
foreplay
i think i started my summer internship around this time, which meant less time to write. i got a few sin prompts done tho, as you can see, and ‘walking in on’ is probably my favourite thanks to chloe getting rejected XD
June
ladrien june 2017 drabble prompts (1/2):
comme il faut
cat person
god’s gift to women
“sorry, i wasn’t paying attention because your face is so distracting”
trying to finish the other’s sentences and failing
swallow
work still took up pretty much all my time, but i couldn’t let ladrien june pass without even an attempt at it. the sentences one is my fave thanks to nathalie being nathalie, but all of them were fun :D
July
tell the survivors (the help is on the way remix)
auuuugh okay. so. i was going through a lot of shit this month, including work but mostly involving my family, and i usually let out steam by writing. this is the fic i wrote to help me process everything. it turned out pretty good AND helped a lot, ngl
August
ladrien june 2016 drabble prompts (3/6):
late for class
alya's notp
identity slip up
soft ladrien in blanket
ladrien june 2016 drabble prompts (4/6):
desperate kiss
love spell | potion
still deep in work, so i decided to take another crack at the ladrien june 2016 prompts and finished a nice chunk. elaienar pleasantly surprised me with a ladrien art, so i decided to get back at her by writing a drabble to go with it, thus it is my favourite to write for this month :’)
September
everything's better with beanie babies
i went straight from work to school, which again meant little time to write. but crispy’s bday was this month!!! so i decided to finish writing this silly fic we talked about when i visited her as a present and ahhhh just thinking about all this is making me happy ♥♥♥♥
October
ladrien june 2016 drabble prompts (5/6):
sacrifice
rumours
ultimatum
my school went on strike about halfway through the month, which left me some extra time for writing. i went more cute than the suggested seriousness of the prompts and ‘sacrifice’ is probably my fave thanks to lovey dovey lb =3=
November
ladrien june 2016 drabble prompts (6/6):
weakness
caught in the act
falling
the best friend knows
fairytale
fashion show
‘weakness’ was first drafted more than a year ago and the strike meant i finally had the time to sit down and really rework it into something i’m very proud of. it’s probably my best fic to date and the one that challenged me the most this year. i never would have been able to get it to the quality it is without the help of my friends :D ♥
then i finished off the ladrien june 2016 prompt set, which i was also very proud of, ‘caught in the act’ got a little out of hand, but all of these fills i really love and enjoy |D
December
pire noel ladrien drabble prompts (1/6):
the fluffiest gd spin you can put on adrien finding out that ladybug is marinette
during an attack, ladybug tries to get adrien to hide in a certain store/place and adrien has to explain why he’s banned from entering that place for the next 3 years
what the thief left behind
sleet
adrien asks nathalie for girl advice
age difference au
space au
newly established relationship ladrien where ladybug finds adrien’s collector edition ladybug body pillow
adrien is a weeb. lb walks in on him sobbing over an anime/manga and adrien is only half coherent enough to explain why (or stop her from accusing another person of being an akuma after him)
balcony scene
termination shock
pire noel ladrien drabble prompts (2/6):
ladybug craves kisses, adrien is busy with something
adrien moaning
texts (+all the emojis) adrien would send as himself if only he had lb’s number
“ladybug, we need to talk about this problem of yours.” (aka, ladybug accidentally pisses off another holiday guardian because of adrien)
the strike ended near end of the november, but i was so stressed from the condensed workload and my own brain that i kinda retreated into writing fic as a type of relief. i started in on the pire noel prompts which i collected last December, with a brief foray into voltron so i could deal with my many, many feelings regarding aliens, and i really love i was able to stick to 300 words when i got most of them done (only 10 left!!)
Total Year’s Output: 33,115 words!
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted?
i wrote less than predicted, since i thought it would be around the 50k+ of last year. but this was also the busiest year of my life thus far, so i’m proud of how much writing i got done :D
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2017?
definitely voltron fic, since i love the show but i don’t really feel the need to write for it. the canon just happened to be the one in line with my pressing need to express my love for aliens
(i literally cried in my astrobiology class over aliens adskjafhlksd)
What’s your favourite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest.
definitely ‘everything’s better with beanie babies’ because it features the agrestes being ridiculous and reminds me of crispy :’D
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
literally every year i say this, EVERY YEAR, but i want to:
a) finish my wips while making a significant dent in my ‘to write’ list, and;
b) WRITE A MULTI-CHAPTER FIC. 2018 IS MY YEAR I’M GONNA DO IT I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD ALKDSJFHLAKSJD
