under cut cuz i talk too much lol
i am not blaming dan or anything (and obviously this has been a joke in lgbt spaces for forever) but i do think he unintentionally enabled the like "homophobia is a good thing actually" type jokes and like i definitely make them too, and im always seeing jokes on here like "god why are they Like This" etc. but i think some people just dont know the line or view them so much as friends that they don't think about how it could read differently from someone who is essentially a stranger. ive said smth similar before of like, dnp (ESP DAN...) used to be not great at drawing boundaries esp since youtube and social media culture were so different back then, but now even when they draw hard lines ppl either continue to step right over them, or dont understand exactly where the line goes. they dont care if u write smut or dead dove fics, they dont care if u make shippy fanart, but like maybe dont tag them in buttsecks? (or maybe do, idk theyre being so unhinged lately maybe we gotta start @'ing them in catboy porn (JOKING))
i was talking w a friend a little bit ago about the exact differences between the generally speaking philosophies between older fans and younger fans. it seems that older fans embrace creating transformative works and having their own interpretations on who dnp are, whereas younger fans want to know dnp on a personal level and want dnp to know Them and recognize them not just as fans but as people. and OFC there are older phannies who want the parasocial interaction and younger phannies who write fic and people who do neither, and people who do both! (hi :3) but then some people have a difficult time being able to marry the two ideas maybe?
heres the truth. dan and phil are real human beings who have made a career largely off their shared dynamic together, BOTH because they genuinely enjoy creating and being together AND because a lot of people really get invested in it and it makes them more money. they don't mind fic or art, you probably SHOULDNT tag them in the saucy stuff, but they know it's out there and generally have been respectful of fan spaces and knowing where OUR boundaries lie (altho maybe the line was toed w the roblox video but thats debatable.) they really do care about their audience both in order to please us and keep us coming back, AND because they see how much theyve affected us as people and have a deep *Sarapocial Relationship with us.
there are both parasocial AND tranformative ways to break boundaries, and oftentimes they can be one and the same. they aren't our friends they arent our dads and they arent objects with no feelings. they don't stalk our accounts but they are still able to see whatever we post publicly. theyve seen so many horrible things and have had many horrible things happen to them, and while no one can be certain something like that won't happen again, now that they have been able to be more honest with us about a lot of things they are able to trust us a little bit more.
anyway ramble over back to me talking abt how dan should embrace their transness

Thursday, January 11th - The Forgotten One // A Hole in the World
Friday, January 12th - A Parent Knows Best // Eldritch Horror
Saturday, January 13th - It Takes a Village // Inheritance
Sunday, January 14th - Mistakes Were Made // Horror Movie AU
Purpose?
Not enough horror-themed fanworks in the world about the Superfam. Got jealous of the Batfandom having all these horror-themed events and projects, so I decided to host one for the Superfam.
Why should we participate in this?
Because you like seeing the soupeyfam in ever-increasingly fucked up situations that elicit a deeply-rooted, ancient dread :3
So how does it work?
The release date for fanworks is from Monday, the 8th of January through Sunday, the 14th of January, 2024.
This aint a Halloween-themed event! You have well over three months to write, draw, and create fanworks. However, use the spooky season to help generate some ideas and propel you forward! :3
This an opportunity for people who’d like to explore the Superfamily characters, dynamics, and relationships through a variety of prompts. Although romantic ships are nice, please make sure the Superfam are the focus of your fanwork.
Superfamily characters include, but are not limited to:
Clark Kent
Lois Lane
Kara Zor El
Jonathan and Martha Kent
Jon Kent
Osul Ra and Otho Ra
John Henry Irons
Natasha Irons
Kon El/Conner Kent
Chris Kent/Lor Zod
Karen Starr
Kong Kenan
Superfamily characters of ANY comic book universe are acceptable. If you want to spend the entire fanweek exploring Ultraman and Injustice!Superman because you love drama, then be my guest! If you want Ultraman to kidnap Lois this time instead of Jon, go for it!! Let that imagination run WILD!!!
Darkfic, horrorfic, genre-specific work, and other both safe and not-safe-for-tunglr dot hell tropes are welcome. Just make sure that you post any Mature content on a landing page that doesn't restrict Mature content (like AO3). I don’t want anyone getting their blog banned. We cannot defeat our capitalist overlords, but we can definitely work around them.
This fanweek will not have a dedicated blog. These prompts are free for anyone to use. Because it is a non-traditional, non-monetized, and free-to-opt-in casual event, there will be no mods but moi, no advertising of paid services, and no ratings or participant restrictions. I will open a collection on AO3 in January for anyone who wants their work collated for this event.
In order to ensure that both creators and the audience are making informed decisions about what they engage with, all creators are encouraged to include triggers, ships, and any other squick warnings.
Please utilize the read-more function for fanworks that are longer than 250 words. We're tryna read yer stories, not get spammed with a wall of text. Please Be Courteous.
And last but not least - if you are engaging with any of the fanworks, reblog, reblog, reblog! Share the work with your followers. Send all the love to the creators for crafting their masterpieces!!
What can I contribute?
Fanart (standalones, comic strips, etc.), fanfiction (one-shots, multichapter, etc.), fanmixes, gifsets, graphics, meme collections, fanvids, whatever your heart desires! Go wild!!!
Can I create/write not-safe-for-tunglr dot hell content?
Yes!!! All creators are encouraged to include triggers warnings, sub-genre specifications, ships, and other warnings in their posts. I will not discourage you from writing your 16k Kara-goes-evil fic, but please... Be Courteous and tag your fanworks appropriately so people can make an informed decision on what they're comfortable with viewing.
What does (X) prompt mean?
Each day has two prompts!! You can either pick a prompt OR you can combine prompts in different ways. Let your imagination take you where you want to go with each prompt!! If you want to explore both in the same fanwork, then be my guest!!
Mainstream Canon, Elsewords, and AU content is acceptable! Just make sure to stay within the comicsverse. Creativity is key! Have fun!!!
Can I crackship/multiship/harem/OT3/polyam the characters?
Absolutely!!! Just please remember that this is the Soupeyfam horror week, not the Lois-Has-A-Harem-of-Elseworlds-Supermen week. We love ships and things, but this week is about the Superfamily. The characters can have their lovers, but their personal romantic dalliances shouldn't overtake the Soupeyfam dynamics (unless you're pulling a Cersei and Jaime, lmao, if that's the case, go wild).
Does this have a tag?
During release week, use the general “superfam” tag to share your work with the wider Superfam fandom on tunglr. You can use whatever other tags you fancy. The best way to share, however, is to directly @ me so that I may reblog it.
I didn’t read a damn thing before this, Ava.
TL;DR: Over three months until the fanweek!!! For all fanwork creators out there, now’s the time to start thinking about what prompts you want to utilize for your creations. There are no creative restrictions, but I do ask that you follow these posting tips:
All fanfiction should be under a read-more.
Not-safe-for-tunglr fanwork should be LINKED to whatever landing site the content is being hosted on (Twitter, AO3, etc). This includes both fanfiction and fanart. I don’t want your blog getting flagged bc tunglr hates gay people.
Provide content warnings for all triggers, squicks, and sub-genres. Unfortunately, in my ten odd years away from DC Comics, the fandom's seen a resurgence in puritanical behavior and tons of censorship and self-censorship. Please list content warnings on your work but do not be discouraged in sharing your work. If a fancop gets on your ass, block them. Please block as MANY as you can. They're like pests, they're always gonna be there, but their influence can be diminished by staunch blocking and reporting.
You can participate as much as you want!! Maybe you only wanna create for one day? Cool! Maybe you’re an overachieving corporate clown insomniac like myself, and wanna create for every day of the week? Go for it!!!
The most important thing is to have fun :)
Truth be told, this event is entirely selfish. I personally love to the horror genre, and would love to see the characters in the Superfamily get more canon content as seen through beloved horror tropes. Unfortunately, Status Quo often gets in the way, and the current fanworks are largely ambivalent to the Dreadful and Despairing. If you'd like to join me in creating deliciously dark fiction featuring our favorite DC clan, please do! I would love to read your 10k character study of Otho and Osul assimilating into human society after spending their formative years as slaves in Warworld.
We’re over three months away from release week, so take your time, look through the prompts, and get your creative juices flowing! I will be sending out reminders until the go-live date.
For the people who showed interest during the initial interest check, I hope you're able to participate. To the four people who hate me, your mom's a hoe. Thank you.

First of, I'm a big fan of your work. I love your comics and art and was happy to hear about the engagement 😁
As for my question, I love writing stories and creating OCs/characters. In your recent comic you called out that the only ace/aro rep always seems to be "the creator said so on Twitter" (a problem with a lot of rep. in media).
So I was curious, if I wanted to create an aroace character (and write a story with them), how could I naturally show them being aroace? Do you perhaps have any idea?
Thank you so much for the kind words!^^
Arguably my complaints are ironic because I myself haven't done proper aroace rep in my own fiction thus far – though I guess I'm compensating for that with my current comics, haha 🙈 But also, I've said it before and I'll say it again cus I'm annoying like that – Bojack Horseman did it, in my opinion, so that gives the rest of the media less excuses I guess.
So, again these are my personal views, and they're possibly demanding, but this would be my checklist for ideal aroace rep:
The aro/ace character needs to... BE a character. Actually have arcs, that matter within the story. Whether they're about being asexual or not doesn't really matter as long as THEY matter as a character.
...Ngl I feel they need to matter BEFORE they're revealed as aro/ace too, and obviously after. If they don't, they'll just feel like a placeholder who's just there to tick a box to me.
The fact that they're aro/ace needs to be addressed and not pushed under the rug or left up to interpretation. Leaving things up to interpretation will have so many people interpret them as allo for sure (just like in real life). And conversely, saying they're aro/ace may spark some curious questions and possibly awkward conversations (just like in real life). (...Again tbh Bojack Horseman was great at doing it naturally. The confusion from the ace character themself, the ace character's friend assuming they're gay because yeah that always happens, the MC having a friendly yet clueless "haha you're lucky that'd save me so many problems if I didn't have sexual attraction"... I could go on.)
By that I also mean... Actually NAMING the orientation at some point. If it's not named people who consume the media and don't know such an orientation exists will be none the wiser. (I'm guilty of that myself tbh. In one of my webcomics I had an alloaro character but never had the orientation mentioned within the story, I left it at showing he has sex and him having a conversation with his family explaining he doesn't have a favorite person because he just can't, but I feel like that's not enough, and I've been feeling a bit bad about it.) A good way of bringing that up fairly naturally would be to have the character figure out their orientation within the story, as a way to have the audience learn alongside them; but it could also be played for drama, which I don't think I've ever seen and would like to dabble with myself at some point – like, imagine you have a friend you hold dear who's key to your personal development and suddenly you find out they see you as sex / romance prospects and not as a friend like YOU do? That'd be crushing but that could definitely make for a good conflict. I should try writing that. I'm rambling anyway. Bleh.
Another thing that, to me, is key to the aro/ace experience is that the character may have some moments of questioning their place in the world. Our world is obsessed with sex and romance and fiction exacerbates that to the point where some characters barely even exist if they don't have romance. This could range from "Do I NEED to even identify myself as something" (again, Bojack Horseman did that great) to "Friendship is the most important relationship to me but not to my friends, what if they all abandon me once they find the one person they consider 'more important'". I dunno. I feel like there could be some interesting storylines there. I definitely would love to dabble into that myself a bit more, though I lack the time and talent – those concepts and the lack of things that are done with it live in my head rent-free.
...Actually I feel it could be good to show aro/ace characters as full of heart (if it fits their personality), having their own feelings and emotions outside of the usual romance spectrum, to show that they're just as human and compelling as the other characters. (...AGAIN Bojack Horseman did that great imo, I feel bad that I'm only ever quoting that show but that's still the best example I can ever think of.) Like – betrayal, loneliness, grief, kinship, literally ANY other form of love than romantic love... We feel all of those too, and those deserve to be addressed in stories just as much (if not more) than the pining or simping that's kinda everywhere.
Oh yeah and speaking of being human... Yeah, human. We need more human aro/ace characters. Making it so that only the aliens/gods/demons/robots/whatever are ever allowed to be aro/ace only serves to dehumanize these orientations.
...IIIII think that's it. I might be forgetting some things I'd wanna add on later but I think that covers everything that would make for ideal rep in my own opinion

This is what happens when all criticism is bad faith.
You have a bad show that no one sticks around for. Something tells me she really thought Fizzarolli was going to bring people back. And the thing is, I legitimately think it did. But you have just pushed so many of your most loyal fans away, and a lot of them feel that the story they wanted to know is already finished. They know what happened with Fizzarolli and Blitz's family. They can tell whatever story they want now, and it'll make them far less frustrated or disappointed than waiting for you to stop plugging your ears.
If you would rather spend money for something like this, you could save so much more by just reaching out to your critics and actually listening. Then again, there is the possibility that you've just isolated people too far from you to give you a second chance even if you did. You don't handle yourself maturely on Twitter any more than you did here, and the Lackadaisy situation was the last straw for a lot of people to drop you and your show. All because you had to be petty and post the email online and encourage the harassment.
Bad faith would be conflating the fact you would pay for a puff article with questioning if you were involved with the news articles covering the Lackadaisy team and associating the studio and the show with "transphobia". I don't think anyone can truly claim that they know for sure, but this proves Medrano and her team are willing to mobilize outside media to try and prop themselves up.
Youtube videos make the most views in the first 3 days of a video's life. We are hitting that 3 day mark, meaning she is going to see a sharp decline in views from here on out. I think this video may reach about 12-15 million, but that's admittedly being generous and Medrano knows this.
I genuinely do think she thought more people would come back for this story than who actually did. It's not something I am necessarily happy in either. I thought and still think there are some really good ideas and inspiration for this show. But Medrano lacks the eye of a showrunner. If she had a better grasp on what it took to make a successful series, she would have known and budgeted for season 2 to be all about the Fizzarolli and Blitz relationship with Stolas and Blitz being the B plot and have IMP being the C plot. Have it run through the entire season to really immerse the audience and tell her story well. And I think that could have happened if she had only listened to criticism.
This is where she has found herself, however. Spending more money promoting her underperforming series instead of using those funds to make a good show. If she hired a writer's room instead of a press release, I think we would all be much happier.
I'm sorry, but I lose all respect for a show when the creator is paying money for a promotion piece because their views aren't maintaining like they thought they would, due to their own mismanagement of funds and public relations.

Now after letting it sit for awhile here some thoughts on Wednesday: I do like the Wednesday series, but I only see it as a parallel universe kinda thing.🤔 And I‘ll be talking Addams family centered (because this is my main interest point in watching it), so I am not talking about the new characters.
I grew up with the Barry Sonnenfeld Addams family version so that’s my „main universe“. I saw the original series far later. And now recently the animated movies and Wednesday series. They all have the main core theme, but overall a different vibe. So for me to enjoy them I have to separate them. Though I gotta say that the modern content in recent years misses a few points. I can’t lay my finger on it exactly, but it feels off a bit. It feels like it tries to be obviously over the edge to show „we‘re the Addams, we‘re so wonky right?? And you like that extreme. Right guys??“.
Which isn’t necessary. It’s why they gained so many fans in the first place, because they‘re so non-chalant about it and gave a natural feel about it.
Also one of the bigger things that itch me is the portrayal of Morticia in Wednesday and the over-the-top, unnecessary mother-daughter quarrel between Morticia and Wednesday. Morticia is portrayed in a more snobbish and arrogant way which makes her more distant already. Her troubled relationship with Wednesday feels like it came outta nowhere and never really gets explained why and in one episode, in a certain moment, it just goes poof. That was the annoying point I had in this series. Because here it seemed the creators just desperately wanted to underline the teenage series topic again by making her go through „i don’t like my parents/my parents are embarrassing“ phase and by changing Morticia a bit in their favor to support that. We never had that or this strongly in any other Addams content, so it threw me for a loop. I do hope there won’t be a repeat of overtly annoying normative teenager stuff, but it is netflix, so we‘ll see.
The Addams general storyline didn’t feel fleshed out, more like rushed. Another point was Morticia‘s relationship with Weems. We never get to know what happened here. And we can’t get a lot of indications because Morticia in general doesn’t see or consider other characters a lot. The relationship between the Addams in general feels?? fleeting (except MorticiaxGomez of course)? I can‘t pinpoint it, but what I love so much about the Addams is that they are a team in so many ways with a strong bond and this series can‘t or won’t make use of that main trait, because…yea well „netflix focusing on teenagers getting cray cray“. I heard a lot of people giving the actors the fault, like catherine zeeta jones, but actually give her smth to work with in the first place.
So yea, Wednesday had a lot of good stuff. I.e. I do love that we got more Thing content with this series. Or seeing more of Wednesday‘s talent for various stuff and her being passionate about them. And the case not being too obvious to keep the suspense. Though I wish for less teenage drama next time to keep character authenticity and less edginess made to be „cooler“ for younger audiences. An enjoyable Addams themed series, but as I said viewed as a separate universe.

I saw one of my friends repost your aro-ace comment on Instagram about how we, as a society, put emphasis on family and relationships ahead of friendships… (it was about a reddit thread) and it kind of makes me wonder why we, as a society, put so much emphasis on relationships? I feel like the need to find, have, and keep a partner is so strong in our society that it seems to me that it certainly contributes heavily to the rampant issues of misogyny in our culture. Incel culture, for instance, is centered around the idea of being able to have a partner - just look at their name, involuntary celibate.
I’m no student of psychology, so I don’t really know what I’m talking about and I’m speaking out of my ass. But your text post really got me thinking about that - I just wanted to know your thoughts? Do you think we, as a society, value friendship enough?
I cannot believe that post broke containment!
You're absolutely right about it contributing to misogyny, and that's an excellent point about incel culture. There's also this whole spinster vs bachelor idea that has been discussed for ages - how single women are considered 'sad' if they are unmarried but single men are sometimes considered to be 'too wild to be tamed or tied down' if they are unmarried. And even that is only not sad if they are sleeping around a lot - which then also contributes to incel culture. That is a super interesting avenue of thought - thanks for bringing it up!
I have been thinking on your question for a while, and while I'm absolutely no expert either, I do have some thoughts.
I think within societies, friendship is valuable when you're young.
Now, before I explain this, I'd like to preface by saying that I am generalising here and will use examples of Western (and Indian) media to explain my point but different countries/cultures do have different views on friendships, families, romantic relationships, etc. so there is always a cultural nuance to these things that I won't be getting into in my response.
Getting back to the point at hand, I think friendships are important for the young. I remember a quote by the creators of the TV show Friends about how they wanted to write a show about 'the time in your life when friendships are your family.' There is the implication that friendships are your family when you're 'too old' to be close to your parents but 'too young' to have a family of your own. Aka your early twenties. I believe this is a mentality that is perpetuated by many other movies and shows, but must also clearly be reflecting the way a lot of relationships work in Western countries because these movies and shows are made to be relatable to the general masses.
Media about friendships revolve around how valuable and important friendships are (Friends, Will & Grace, Sex and the City, etc.) but they all end the same way - with everyone pairing up and starting families to denote a “happy ending” and 'moving on' to adulthood. If there is anyone not paired up at the end, the audience consensus is generally that it's really sad that they didn't find anyone, even if they end up with professional success or are otherwise happy.
In Indian media, romance is important but equal to family (parents specifically). In Indian culture, many times family (parents) is more important than romance. Friendships, however, always seem to be second tier. Even Bollywood movies about friendships (Dil Chahta Hai, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai etc.) are all still primarily about finding the great romantic love of your life. And many of the main conflicts of Bollywood films are about the family and romantic partners clashing - friendships aren't even generally considered important enough to be a factor that provides conflict, many times because it doesn't affect your future at all.
While there is a difference between relationship hierarchies in Indian and American media (and cultures), it seems like the one thing they agree on is that friendships are not as important as romance.
But we've all met those people who are reluctant to get into romantic relationships because they don’t want to ruin friendships, so there is a pervading idea that friendships are important! Sometimes more than romance! But it's an idea that people out grow in their mid-twenties, and eventually the implication is that once you get a 'lifelong' partner - who is always a romantic partner - they take precedence and the friendships become second tier. This change seems to happen with age and is not considered sad because everyone follows the same life trajectory! Right?
But for everyone who doesn't want to or can't have a future that revolves around a romantic partner, there’s also a big question mark when you try to imagine the future. Because suddenly friendships aren't the most important thing anymore.
So in a general sense, I do think people value friendships... at a certain age. But I think it is considered to be a temporary phase. The question I want to ask is why? Why can't we put more emphasis on building communities instead of just structuring futures around a romantic partner? Why can't the communities involve relationships that aren't just romantic and/or familial? Sure it works for some people, but it also doesn't work for a lot of other people.
And it's not just about aspecs either. It's also about people who've been in abusive relationships, people who's spouses leave them after marriage, people who simply just don't want a traditional family set-up (see Shonda Rhimes, for example), etc. We need alternative options! That doesn't necessarily mean friendships are the solution, but I think they could be one of the solutions. Why can't a Friends-esque situation be the future - with someone living in the same building with several of their best friends, all of them helping each other out? Why can't someone just decide they want to live with their parents with both parties taking care of each other? Why isn't just having kids without having a romantic partner seen as something normal? Why can't we return to community based systems where the whole 'village' helps each other out with all the activities needed to keep life going smoothly?

Chloé and Zoé for the KPP ask game?
The KPP ask game
Tumblr media
I love this jackass. I really do, and I choose to remember her as her original self from the original show before the retooling of season four. While her season four behavior can still make sense when looking at her character arc as a whole, I still feel like the specific alterations chosen are part of the whole "retooling changing things for the sake of it with little regard to what made the original show work" thing that pisses me off about the New Adventures of Ladybug show.
When looking at the retooled seasons, it just seems like the writers are blatantly telling the audience what they should think and feel about Chloé and I don't like it when I can plainly see that writers are trying to manipulate me. Considering that Chloé is a really popular character who is viewed by parts of the fandom in ways that the creators don't approve of, it really does stink of the writers trying to dictate how we should view a character. In fact, the way Chloé gets treated is eerily similar to Adrien, with her first losing story importance and then being delegated to a sidekick.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If Chloé's treatment by the writers is like Adrien's, then Zoé is her Félix. Zoe is a pretty basic character, but one with no real issues, but her later appearances can't seem to keep her small amount of characterization straight. Like, what was the point of her being built up as the only character who might unconditionally love Chloé in season four, if their relationship is just going to be in the toilet in season five? The cast is full of characters who hate Chloé and the cast even has a more logical character to use for the "Chloé has used up all of her good faith finally" plot with Sabrina.
Also, while her being kind of dull isn't that big of an issue by itself, and I was fully willing to give her a chance when that was the only "problem", a character involved in the Bourgeois family drama shouldn't be this boring. Like Luka, she needs some suffering to build up her character. And just like Luka, having pointless feelings for one half of the main couple isn't gonna cut it. Dating Marinette didn't make Luka more interesting, so crushing on her isn't going to make Zoé more interesting.

Something I absolutely adore about the fathers in season 2 of dndads is that Anthony emphasized how the trauma of season 1 really did effect the sons, and it reflects directly in how they parent the teens. Especially with Grant and Lark!!
Having the detail of how important emotional communication is to Grant, especially that it's to a fault at times, is something I really appreciate. It's a pendulum to how Darryl treated their relationship. Having that reflect into Lincoln and Grant's relationship, an over-sharing element while also still encouraging a mostly positive relationship to emotion. And Matt pushes that idea into his interaction with the rest of the teens and I can see a future where these interactions can teach the other teens better emotional coping skills.
Lark and Sparrow. Oh lord. They still have that stark difference between themselves but Lark's personality is still different than the end of season 1. Still cold, but more tactile and caring for his family. He does everything he can to train and arm Norm for any dangers. And it's a result of the potent trauma of season 1. Then there's Sparrow. Who contrasts Lark while still conceding that there's a reason they act this way, but not revealing why. All Norm knows is that Uncle Lark is weird. Tack on how Sparrow and Lark assumably still live together, are still attached at the hip. They shelter Norm from the world. They have contrasting views but they stick together and do their best. They were all they had for a while in season 1, even when they had their split in personalities. Sparrow cared for Lark, and now Lark tries to care for Sparrow the only way he knows how (as far as we've seen).
Some more detailed spoilers from here on out:
There's something to be said about Grant's scene with Link in Episode 7. Link learned early on that his dad was dangerous and deadly, but having that so clearly confirmed and Grant's true fears put out in the open is something that can fundamentally rock Link. He's everything Link wants to be and to be told that the only dying wish Grant has is for his son to never be like him, that he never deserves love and is an infection he never wants to get Link sick with, it's earth shattering. It's also revealed explicitly to the audience that Grant gets joy in killing people. He's an excellent marksman and a lethal man. Having this result from the single scene of him killing the monster in the end if Daryll's arc in season 1, it's moving and impressive. And it's so important that having that change in Grant from season 1 become clear and effecting the plot directly in season 2 - especially since Link is immediately told that he has to kill the mayor - is a detail I absolutely adore in the show.
This crew of creators is so creative and talented and skillful with what they do. I cannot applaud them enough for their work and attention to detail with this show. It's incredible.

Hi. original alienation anon here. I'm happy to report that my fears (so far) are unfounded :)
I'm going to try to explain why I found dd to be alienating as succinctly as possible.
I get that he was basically trying to make the YT version of the Eric André show, but it didn't work for me for a number of reasons. Firstly, YT is not a good platform for that kind of content. The Eric André show is on a network that is known for bizarre, offensive shows. YT is not that. It's a personality-driven platform that runs on the parasocial relationships between creators and their audiences. Dan was also not the best person to pull that concept off. Eric André is and always has been known for his chaotic, rude, unlikable persona. Dan is not. He built an audience by being likable and relatable. So for him to suddenly do a total 180 and become this rude, mean, cold person was alienating to me and other viewers who had built a parasocial relationship with the person he presented himself as in his videos.
Secondly, and this is gonna sound harsh, Dan is not as deep as he thinks he is. DD isn't good satire. He basically just made the content he was supposed to be satirizing and dressed it up in this pretentious concept of a dystopian variety show. He clearly was pressured into making those videos to promote WAD and it shows. His commentary on the concepts he talked about was surface level. he didn't say anything that countless video essayists who are smarter and more educated than him haven't already said. I also agree with the person who said it felt overproduced and cheap at the same time.
My third and main problem with DD though, is how mean-spirited it often felt. I watch dnp for light-hearted entertainment. I don't want to watch someone I usually like being a dickhead to their friends and family for 20 minutes, whether it's joking or not. There were times when you could tell that the guest was uncomfortable, but Dan just didn't seem to care? The worst was Louise. I felt so much second-hand embarrassment watching that video. She clearly felt uncomfortable but Dan just kept pushing it. The cringiest part was when he said that thing about the 2012-2014 YT era being nostalgic and Louise said "it wasn't a good time for me. I had a 2 yr old and was going through a divorce." Yikes! That just made Dan come off like a self-absorbed, inconsiderate asshole to me. Obviously we don't know how Louise really felt or what went on behind the scenes but that video left a bad taste in my mouth and completely changed how I viewed Dan.
Here's my conclusion. I think Dan needs to play to his strengths. social commentary and irreverent comedy are not two of them. People like him mainly for 3 reasons; his ability to relate to others through his own personal struggles, his chemistry with Phil, and his aspirational relationship with Phil (whatever the nature of that relationship is). DD pretty much destroyed all of that in one fell swoop. Even though I think that was entirely intentional, it was a very, very bad move. He can't just toss his entire image in the fire and expect it to work out for him. Not without doing the work to win over a new audience, like say, Joji did when he went from being Filthy Frank to a serious, sad-boy musician. I'm glad he got the chance to try new things, even if they didn't work out, but I think he's smart for going back to doing what he's good at and I hope for our sake and his that he sticks to it.
I said succint and then this turned into a whole essay lol. Sorry. I know some people are not going to like what I said, but that's how I feel.
hi! so sorry it took me so long to get to this!
i agree with some things and disagree with others. just so people won't argue with me because of your perception of dd, i'll list disagreements (and the hardest agreements, i guess). but it's totally cool to feel what you feel, and youtube content is made for people to have different opinions and obviously, we have different reactions to intentional harshness and rudeness. also, i'm so so glad you gave dnpgames a chance! we're back and stronger than ever!!
putting under the cut to not disturb the dnpgames euphoria <3
i agree that youtube , and specifically Dan's main channel, wasn't the best place to put this type of content on. maybe his 2nd channel would have been better, but it would have given even less views. so like, the point? because now his main channel looks all over the place. the usual content flow was interrupted by a video trashing youtube and the whole conceptual series of dd. and even dd was interrupted by the 2nd wad trailer and the memes video. right now it looks, dare i say, ugly. if he ever returns to actual youtube content and not promo videos, he will have to swallow this hard pill.
your 2nd reason - agree. but i don't think it's a bad thing, considering the circumstances (dd being made under pressure to somehow promote wad. with limited time and budget). lots of people comment on the same things and happen to give the same remarks. it's fine, it's still interesting to hear. (ironically, that's youtube and its algorithm for you)
hard agree on Dan (almost) destroying his image, especially in relation to dnp™. but we're still here, he can't push us away no matter how hard he tries.
disagreements :))
i think the video with Louise was good. that comment about 2012-2014 (the prime Brit crew times specifically) being nostalgic - i mean, it IS. for some people more, for some people less. it can be nostalgic and not a good time equally. i have personal examples when it's both. and i rewatched that moment. Louise said, "I loved those years for the most part." Dan went on to question WHAT exactly she loved, and only then she had to specify that it wasn't actually that simple. Dan likes to say how simple life was "back then". "back then" being any time in the past lol. "simpler, better times" is a phrase i still quote, and it was said years ago (i don't even remember where). he was rude in the video, but not ruder than with others. motherhood is a more sensitive topic for Louise than for Dan and, may i say, the majority of us. but they are friends, and at the end of the day, she could literally say "shut the fuck up and stop" and that would be accepted.
i also think that Dan would be amazing at social commentary if you give him more time to prepare scripts and find the right tone. his liveshows are a good indicator of that. he wasn't trying to punch anyone with his words while delivering his thoughts. he was giving his opinions and explaining them. 2017 has so many amazing quotes from his liveshows. and none of them felt like dd, despite touching on politics, sexuality, mental health, youtube as a platform, our community, the internet as a job, etc. he can do that, he can comment and criticise without trying to prove something. dd had a concept though. he was that obnoxious character playing by "youtube rules". "youtube likes this, this and this. so i'm gonna do all of it, and you're gonna see how bizarre it looks thrown in your face at once and deal with it." social platforms' algorithms are dystopian, he's got a point. his version of satire isn't ideal and you can clearly see that dd was rushed. and that's unfortunate!
anyway, thank you so much for explaining your dd experience. i'm sure there are people who relate to it. i'm sorry, if i sound rude, or like, pushy. i'm not trying to be. actually, dd is probably the easiest topic to discuss because of how ambiguous it is (in a good way).

Okay, it's fine to say that Stella is abusive, but there is a lot of bad writing about the dynamics of this family, especially how dysfunctional families work. Don't try to defend that. Vizvipop just took the typical dysfunctional family tropes on TV shows and never took the time to write it better, she just did it to make Stolas look better.
In fact, I don't even know how she's going to handle Stella and Octavia's relationship. Octavia doesn't seem to hate her mother. Stolas has said that Stella takes Octavia on the weekends. If Octavia didn't want to go with her, Stolas would notice. And Stella made at least an effort to give Octavia a happy childhood. If she was so terrible and selfish, why did she pretend for so long??? So we can assume that Octavia knows the kind side of her mother (Stella is not implicitly seen to mistreat Octavia). Vizvipop going to ruin that relationship, which is already pretty poorly written, just to make Stolas look like the hero.
It could have been a chance to really write what it's like to live in a dysfunctional family, Stella would have been a villain with a better background but Vizvipop doesn't do it just because she chose to make stolas look better.
Tumblr media
It's why I hate it when people try to write dysfunctional families because the creator doesn't know how to handle these topics or the audience will side with the abuser {MHA [my hero academia]} is a prime example of how shitty endeavor is and while he is paying for his actions SOME FANS emphasizing on the word SOME still hate Dabi and want to crucified him.
Honestly this trope could have worked I wrote about this in a previous post but if Stella was in some way like Hera from the Percy jackson books {the queen of the Gods who was the Goddess of marriage and if she cheated on Zeus she'd be viewed as a hypocrite} it would be good.
The head of Goetia family who as a woman had to remain loyal couldn't cheat regardless of her husband's infidelity got angry because Stolas was caught cheating got tired of being the perfect wife and snapped. This would have been a good way to give us a bad ass woman a good portrayal of dysfunctional families and Stolas forcing to view how his actions have consequences.
Nope instead we get a typical villain and Stolas being viewed as a poor baby UwU
The relationship between Octavia and Stella could have been another interesting concept to have. Stella seems to care for her daughter especially since she's seen spending time with and Octavia is willing staying at her house
This family could've been interesting to watch they have all the tools to be a good well written dysfunctional family but Viv has already ruined it and is most likely gonna give people more reasons to hate on Stella by having her be hateful towards Octavia

Choose violence ask game: worst blorbofication? and what's a character no one really likes but you do and why?
I'm not in the Star Wars fandom or the Harry Pοtter fandoms, so I don't have first-hand experience with fans of Kylo Ren and Severus Snape, but from what I've seen they're the first that come to mind in manner of "THIS is your blorbo? THIS DUDE??" Kylo Ren is an immature, unstable supremacist who is most inappropriate to be in any position of power, and the way fans are only presenting him as a "poow misundewstood boyyyy" is... ew. And then Rise of Skywalker came and redeemed him because why by the way and only made it worse, basically accepting all the poor takes.
Now, about Snape, there are far worse things to criticize the franchise and its t*rf of a creator about, but it certainly doesn't help that big-ass youtube channels that pride themselves over being unbiased and open-minded actually support him and think he was a hero all along. And look, I ain't saying he's not an interesting character! He was! As a prideful bigot who should never ever have been allowed to teach kids. Alan Rickman hit the performance out of the park in the movies and unfortunately, that created a problem (not Rickman's fault though) because it made people conflate "well-acted character" with "morally good character" and no. Snape was a bastard with poor priorities and horrible coping methods. His trauma doesn't mean shit when he's made it his life's mission to inflict as much trauma as possible onto his students. His emotional sacrifice in the end doesn't justify or undo the horrible way he treated innocent people around him. His pain over losing Lily doesn't hold any ground when he belittles Harry at any possible chance just because he was the living proof that Lily rejected him.
Anyway, oof, yeah. There may be worse cases out there but these are the ones I can come up with now.
About a character I like but everyone else doesn't... I'm choosing a currently relevant character and it's Nightfall/Fiona from Spy x Family, but listen. I don't "like" like her. I don't root for her goals and I don't support any of her actions she takes towards that goal. I think she is very blinded and biased. I don't want her to end up with Twilight... but I feel she's very interesting in the way of bringing such interesting material into the narrative and giving us an informed view of Twilight, and her bias and obsession actually help towards that. She's the one that confirms to the audience that Twilight's smile hides actual genuine emotion behind it.
Tumblr media
She's obsessed enough to have studied Twilight's pretenses and acting enough to notice the real emotion. She's infatuated enough for it to make her jealous. She's self-confident enough for us to know the smile is real, and not her paranoid interpretation that she's "losing" him. Twilight's happiness with the Forger family is something she wants to prevent because she wants him to be happy because of her and only and that competitiveness is what makes her observant enough to notice and emotionally upset enough to point it out for the audience to know for real.
But, at the same time, she genuinely wants him to be happy, because of her, and because he knows the real her. She doesn't want to use tricks to gain his attention and praise, she hasn't even shown to try and change his opinion on Yor by lying about her. Her sabotaging of the relationship comes in the form of exposing Yor's weaknesses, not making up fake ones to trick Twilight into thinking she's less worthy.
Don't get me wrong, as I said, I absolutely do not support her and I don't want her within a ten-mile radius from Yor. But I think there's more in her other than her "Notice me senpai" thing, and there's traits that actually point her towards a redeeming path. She just has to become more aware of the world around her and especially how said world views her. Then maybe she can rearrange her priorities and find ways to be happy that don't depend entirely on Twilight becoming her husband, and hopefully, understand that Twilight's place is within the Forger family, not with her.
So, yeah. I "like" the dynamic she brings into the narrative, I like how she can offer to the audience a side of Twilight that Twilight himself doesn't allow. I don't like her but I like her role in the story.

do you think that fandoms constantly ignoring stories and themes that focus on various types of relationships (especially those that focus on friendships and found families) and instead focusing on romantic relationships, be it canon or fanon, ruin the overall enjoyment of the content? Especially when common discourse revolves around ship wars instead of good analysis and theories?
ive been trying to think of an answer for this but failing every time i try to think about it. because with everything being so accessible these days, and seeing firsthand how fandom culture can effect the creators and their visions, im unsure if i can answer with just "who cares what anyone else thinks, your opinion should be the only one that matters to you" with confidence. there are subjective and objective elements at play there that we have 2 reckon with yknow... its a difficult question.
more below.
i believe that without a doubt, romance can be a subject with deeper nuance. it has been the crux of some of my favorite shows/movies, and i won't undermine that. but "shipping" is definitely a harder concept to critique because it in and of itself was born from fandom and fandom alone (unless theres some weak ass corny meta that addresses it in the media).
shipping is not an issue to me. i recall a time when i was a younger lesbian and shipping characters i know would never be allowed to be together in canon because of homophobic network restrictions and prejudices. from that point of view, it takes some level of understanding the concept of "coding" too, which is still analytical and requires a level of self awareness to engage with. so no, i don't think shipping is a huge issue. it may be annoying when i can tell the key theme or takeaway of the narrative is not about romance, but i digress... thats ur prerogative and how you decide to enjoy media.
but shipping wars? that shit is juvenile and embarrassing. I get discourse or discussions about the messages and how well theyre conveyed through the sub/meta textual elements, but starting fights over ships???? its so stupid and worthless to talk about. if youre 13, i wont judge, but grown adults arguing over ships is mortifying to say the least. and when shipping is so forced by a fanbase that even the creators start taunting the audience about it, abandoning potential avenues of the story that dont concern petty shit like that in exchange for more cheap engagement, it's downright infuriating. i cant STAND that shit.
but then i reread all of this and while it's important to be critical of media and by proxy who enjoys it + how, i do tend to get kinda tired and just say fuck it. at the end of the day, if the majority of a fanbase is caught up in shipping discourse that has little/nothing to do with the actual core message of the story, just ignore it. tuning it out is honestly the best way to maintain your enjoyment of something.

My Adult Animation Recommendation List
Below is a list of adult animation I would recommend to anyone who wants to watch animation with deeper meaning than crude jokes and sexual humor.
Tumblr media
Serving as a spinoff from Hazbin Hotel, Helluva Boss is about I.M.P, (Immediate Murder Professionals), who are a trio of imps who go to the Living World to assassinate humans for bitter Sinners in Hell. Rowdy Blitz leads the team of married couple Moxxie, a weapons expert and sharpshooter, and Millie, a rough and tumble imp with a penchant for slaughter. Sometimes they are assisted by Blitz's adopted daughter, Loona, a hellhound serving as a receptionist who is addicted to her phone and antisocial.
While there are sex jokes and crude human, there are hidden depths as the show is about relationships between family, co-workers, and both romantically and non-romance. It also carries themes of domestic abuse, classism, and trauma.
Currently the first season is complete and the second season is nearly half complete and available to watch for free on Youtube. It's an indie projected funded by Patreon, monetized videos, and fans buying merch and with each episode drawing in millions of views within the first hour of release, this is an instant hit.
Tumblr media
The first of its kind, Spawn was released late night on the HBO channel. It featured anti-hero Al Simmons who makes a deal with a demon to return to Earth to see his beloved wife, Wanda once again. However, he is returned years later with a severely burned body and Wanda has since moved on, marrying his best friend Terry and has a daughter. Unable to cope with the loss, Spawn haunts the alleyways of New York, becoming an impromptu protector of the homeless, defending them from anyone who intrudes on their home, whether its mobsters, crooked cops, or other supernaturals.
Spawn is meant for mature audiences with depictions of sexual content, nudity, and severe violence. It's a plot that takes itself seriously and there are no gags or jokes. It ran the length of three seasons and can be watched on Max.
Tumblr media
Based on the comic created by Robert Kirkman, creator of the Walking Dead comic, we meet Mark Grayson, the teenage son of Omniman, a Superman like hero with super strength and flight. When Mark comes of age, he finally comes into his powers and is ready to take on the moniker Invincible to follow in his father's foot steps. However, there is a conspiracy afoot in the superhero community which will end in conflict and heartbreak.
What starts off a typical animated superhero tv show, inverts itself by the end of the first episode. Be warned, there is plenty of blood and violence as this tv series doesn't pull any punches when it comes to realistic violence between super powered individuals.
The first season can be found on Amazon Prime with a second season coming out next year.
Tumblr media
Brilliant series from Netflix. What's great about is that while it is based off a video game series, you don't have to be a player or familiar with the game at all. I have never played nor plan to play League of Legends, but that didn't stop me from being engrossed int his amazing series.
Two sisters, Vi and Powder are orphaned during a failed uprising of oppressed Zaun against the wealthy city of Piltover. Through a series of tragedies the girls find themselves as adults on opposite sides of the conflict as the war between Zaun and Piltover brews up again.
Beautiful animation, layered thoughtful story with wonderfully written characters which tackles themes of war, oppression, mental illness, technology, terminal illness, childhood trauma, fatherly love, and so much more.
First season can be found on Netflix with the second season hopefully coming next year.
Tumblr media
Originally on TBS and created by Olan Rogers, Final Space was about Gary Goodspeed, a prisoner whose 5 year sentence is near an end. He's been living in isolation maintaining a satellite and about to lose his mind until a little green creature he names Mooncake arrives. The two become fast friends, but unfortunately, there is an all powerful warlord is after Mooncake because he's the key to opening a dimension into Final Space.
While it initially comes across as your run of the mill adult comedy, I honestly thought it was a rip off of Futurama before I watched it, it has way more depth. While Gary comes across as a talkative goof, he's passionate and loyal to his friends, deeply in love with his love interest, and is willing to put himself through pain and danger to protect them. It's a found family story with the characters going through epic lengths to save the universe.
There are emotional gut punches delivered by awesome voice acting and talented animators. But, I got sad news. It lasted for three seasons without a proper ending. Now some good news, Olan Rogers got permission to finally end Final Space in a graphic novel coming out hopefully next year.
Tumblr media
Reimagined from the classic video game franchised, Dracula avenges the unjust death of his wife by declaring an unholy war on humanity and only three people can stand against him. Trevor Belmont, the last surviving member of a family of monster hunters, Sypha Belnades, a magi from a group of shunned nomadic scholars, and Alucard, the half-vampire son of Dracula himself.
The character development is well written over the course of four seasons. Handling tough topics such as grief, revenge, self-destruction, and corruption of the church while presenting intense fight scenes with some of the best animation I have ever seen.
All four seasons are on Netflix with a follow up series called Castlevania: Nocturne coming up soon.

not bridgerton related hahaha but how are you faring on the ned/ariel/try guys drama as more info come out?? 🙁
It's the fact that yesterday morning I was like "oh boy, I'm gonna settle down and do a whole bunch of writing today! 😊" and then after finding out about the speculation from a tiktok I immediately spiralled and couldn't focus on anything else but the news as it unfolded (much like N*d couldn't focus on not cheating on his wife 🙃).
I've been watching the Try Guys since they were at Buzzfeed but in the last year or so I haven't really watched any of their content, only occasionally listening to the You Can Sit With Us podcast or any video that featured the Try Wives because (with all due respect to the guys minus Ned) I grew more fond of the girlies + Matt and their dynamic.
I know obviously as content creators/influencers you only know the versions of these people from what they put out there but I always felt Ariel was very down to earth and relatable and she truly is just a very wholesome lady. She was open about her insecurities with her body image after becoming a mother not to mention how she lowkey always felt insecure about being a few years older than Ned in their relationship - so after the news broke I was just absolutely devastated for her.
Whatever worries she harboured about her marriage or what her husband felt towards her must have increased by the tenfold after finding out that he was having an affair. And it's bad enough that he was cheating on her but to cheat on her with his employee?! In the business she helped set up?! She designed their office, she became a featured player in their videos, she participated in documenting their family life and sons, she supported him endlessly throughout - and this is how he repays her?! He centred his whole persona around being Ariel's husband, being a husband to a woman he absolutely adored, feeding the audience a version of #couplegoals that the hope-filled optimists in us can be inspired by - only to throw away his reputation, his business, and the love of an incredible woman for some sex that he was too sloppy to even bother hiding properly?! It's just infuriating that he could do that to someone as lovely as Ariel, to humiliate her like that so publicly and to tarnish everything their marriage represented and stood for.
I rarely invest myself in other peoples relationships and obviously I was naive in this case but I really thought N*d and Ariel were aspirational. 😭 It annoys me that people are all like "lol dumb bitch you really thought what you see is what you get?" because for the most part I'm a pessimistic realist when it comes to love but when it came to their relationship I couldn't help but find them adorable. I was never that keen on N*d as a person (I lowkey always felt he was the weak link in the group but felt bad for thinking that lmao I should have stuck to my gut) but the one thing that I thought he had going for him, the one thing that made him endearing was just how much he loved his wife and children. Even though I thought he was a bit of a try-hard and kinda douchey with his frat-boy persona when he was with the guys, I thought he was earnest and grounded with Ariel and their family, like that was the real him. So it makes me apoplectic with rage that he betrayed Ariel the way that he has and shown himself up to be the person I always thought I negatively viewed him to be.
Ariel deserves so, so, so much better than him and while I sadly think she'll stay with him for the sake of their children, I would love if she recognised how unworthy he is of her and walked away from him; but obviously it's not as simple as that. At the very least she's got the Try Team and the fans firmly on her side so she knows how loved and supported she is during this time.
(But anyway, that's my lesson learned of never putting faith in self-proclaimed wife-guys 🤡)

fiction || red, white & royal blue || m/m || alex claremont-diaz/henry fox-mountchristen-windsor || explicit || no major warnings apply || 18,743 || complete
summary: “I hope you know that I am literally never going to stop reminding you that you said that. I’m going to, like, take out an ad in the student paper. Maybe hire a skywriter or something. I am definitely telling Pez.”
“I hate you,” Henry tells him.
“Lies,” Alex says, still laughing. “You know you love me.”
Henry lets out a heavy sigh. “Well,” he says softly, “that’s rather the problem, isn’t it?”
“What, you think we’d be better off if we still hated each other?”
“I think,” Henry says slowly, “I’d be better off if I could figure out how to stop being so stupidly in love with you.”
It takes a few seconds for the words to really register, as distracted as Alex is by the heat of Henry’s breath and wondering how much it would cost to actually hire a skywriter. Once they do, it takes a full minute before Alex can move. Can breathe. Can think.
Finally, he forces out a whispered, “What?”
When that gets no response, he tries again. This time, his voice actually cooperates. “Wait, what?”
The only response he gets is a soft snore and Alex realizes that Henry, the utter fucking asshole, has passed out on his shoulder.

summary: When Jackson’s ambo is called to the building where he lives, he’s terrified it’s Derek. But no, it’s the guy next door, who has crowds of noisy people over all the time, and plays his TV loud enough to bother Derek into getting noise-canceling headphones. Jackson and Derek are more than a little surprised to discover exactly who that person is.
