I’ll answer for my GOTG selfships because I haven’t stopped thinking about them since the new movie came out 😵‍💫

For context, Rocket and Drax are romantic F/Os, Peter, Groot sr, Mantis, Nebula and Gamora are Platonic F/Os, and Groot jr is a familial F/O. Also I have a silly little crush on Yondu 🤫 so when asked about “them” I’ll usually talk about Rocket or Drax, but sometimes the others too

what’s something you do to feel closer to them? fanfics, listen to songs, etc.

I love watching the Guardians of the Galaxy movies! I also enjoy watching MVs on YouTube. This is my favorite!

how did you get introduced to your f/o and/or their media? do you like their source?

My brother is a huge fan of Marvel. A couple of years ago, over the summer, he made me watch all the movies with him. I wasn’t too big of a fan of the other ones, but I really really loved the guardians :) there’s actually kind of a funny story about how I got introduced to my F/Os— when I first watched the movie, Rocket was my favorite character, but I knew if I told my family that they would make fun of me, so I instead told everyone Drax was my favorite (he’s actually my SECOND favorite lol) and I’m just now starting to let myself love Rocket :,)

what’s one or two things you especially like about your f/o? can be a headcanon!

I love how creative and smart Rocket is :) he loves to build things and invent new weapons and machines, and I think it’s really cool!

I really really love that Drax is so honest— it may annoy our friends sometimes, but he really likes me and isn’t shy about saying it.

Peter is very affectionate and loves to give hugs!! He and I are really good friends (we’ve known each other since even before the Kyln) so it’s nice to have someone who really knows me.

what’s one or two things your f/os love about you? ( self positivity time babey )

I know Rocket really loves my smile :) my S/I is less angst ridden than the rest of the team, so he’s often the one to keep everyone’s spirits up, and Rocket really appreciates the positivity.

how do you express your love to them? how do they express their love to you?

I express my love to my F/Os by being there for them. There are some things I won’t ever understand, or be able to help with, and that’s okay. But I can be a listening ear if they ever feel like opening up.

My F/Os show their love by caring for me. My S/I is the type to prioritize everyone else first, so they help me out by taking care of me when I need it. We usually make our own food (it’s hard to cook for so many different species with different nutritional needs) but when I feel burned out or particularly morose, Drax cooks for me.

a gift you’d like to give them if you could, and something they’d give to you!

Rocket’s flight suit is obviously good for flying a spaceship and fighting people, but it doesn’t look very comfy (especially for the cybernetics on his back) so I think I would give him some more comfortable clothes to wear. Early on in our relationship I think I would be wayyy to embarrassed for such a grand gesture (spending money is a big deal) so I would just give him one of my shirts. Rocket absolutely loves it.

Omg me and Clyde were literally kinda talking about this earlier but basically Rocket would totally collect a whole bunch of pretty things (shiny rocks, stolen jewelry, etc) and give them as gifts to me.

what do you celebrate together? like halloween, christmas time, easter, etc.

We all celebrate Christmas together! Of course the first time was on Knowhere, much after Vol2 and Endgame and stuff, but it’s become a tradition ever since.

do you sleep together? is it peaceful or filled with snoring? do you both stay up? tell us more! ( how you sleep, when you sleep, do you wake up at the same time? )

Drax has his own bed because he can’t stand sleeping with other people (it’s the sensory processing disorder) but me and Rocket sleep together sometimes :)

Rocket’s sleep schedule is really weird because he’s meant to be nocturnal— he doesn’t sleep much at night, and takes a lot of naps in the daytime. He either snuggles with me anyway, just enjoying the closeness, or stays up building something.

When we lived on the Milano, and Groot was still a baby, he would sometimes come sleep with us (or just me) too if he had a nightmare.

Drax always wakes up earlier than me. Once we start living together in Knowhere, he gets into a habit of cooking breakfast for us all.

what’s one thing you can’t do well that the other can, vice versa ( e.g cooking, playing video games, so on and so forth )

One thing I’m not good at is cooking 😭 I’m bad at managing time, so things tend to end up burned or undercooked. Drax is really good at cooking, though!

And with something I can do well— Rocket isn’t good at writing. Numbers are easy because they’re a lot of sharp lines, but letters that curve and are kind of round (like “s” or “o”) are really difficult. It’s because his hands aren’t very good at holding the pencil, so he’s embarrassed about this, and avoids writing whenever possible. I really enjoy things like fancy lettering, painting, and drawing. It’s one of my hobbies :)

do you have similar tastes in fashion? aesthetic? food? tell us about their taste!

We Guardians kind of wear the same clothing (there’s not much range in the space junker business) but I like pretty things a lot. When not on a job, I like to wear a lot of accessories. As for food— I love all kinds of food. Literally anything.

Rocket doesn’t have a lot of options when it comes to clothes, so he just wears what he can find. He loves eating fresh foods, like fruits and seafood.

Drax’s fashion sense is complicated. Comfort takes priority, but he also is picky with colors. His species sees more colors than the human eye can pick up (hc). His taste in food is simple: he loves things with a lot of flavor, especially meat. You ever watched Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives? That kinda stuff.

how do they tend to comfort you? how do you tend to comfort them?

Everyone knows I love hugs. Drax is so strong and he gives the best hugs 😭 Rocket and I like to cuddle, and he also makes me feel better by making me laugh :) Groot is also really sweet, he and I could talk for hours.

I mostly comfort my loves with reassurance. “It’s not your fault” is a big one, both for Rocket and Drax, and Groot often needs reassurance because he feels like he’s not as good as Groot sr.

if you have a rival or nemesis f/o, why? are there any lore reasons or is it just because?

Obviously all the bad guys we’ve fought (Ronan, Ego, Thanos, the High Evolutionary), but in a more lighthearted sense, I don’t really get along well with the avengers. No real reason, I just don’t like them.

what are some uncommon headcanons you have for them?

I’m not quite sure if these are uncommon or not haha— I headcanon that Rocket likes to play video games. He got into it because Groot wanted someone to play with, and of course it was a lot of fun. I also headcanon that Rocket is hard of hearing from being too close to explosions and gunfire all his life. I headcanon Peter suffered some type of disordered eating growing up because he was always afraid that if he got too big to fit into small spaces to steal things, the Ravagers would kill him. I also headcanon that Peter has synthesia, which is why he loves music so much, but also doesn’t often listen to it when he works— it’s distracting.

what is your favorite fan theory/headcanon about them?

My favorite about Rocket is just about him being a dad to little Groot. Of course it’s practically canon, but it’s really sweet

if you live together, how’s domestic life like for you both?

We live together on Knowhere once it becomes the Guardians of the Galaxy HQ. I think this is my favorite part of our story, it’s so sweet :) that kind of life takes some adjusting to, but it’s really what we’ve all always wanted. (Post vol3) Drax gets to be a loving father figure to the children rescued from the HE, and after finding a home with the Guardians and leading a decade or so of an action-packed life, Rocket really just wants to rest. So he does. And for me, ever since I was young, all I’ve ever wanted is to love and be loved. We keep in contact with our friends and they visit often, of course.

do you have any scent hcs for them? ( sweet, something like coffee, etc )

Unpopular opinion, I think Rocket smells a lot like soap. He washes his hands often, and is kind of a clean freak tbh.

is there anything commonly misunderstood about your f/o?

I kind of like the fandom’s current interpretation of Rocket. My only complaint is that sometimes people portray him as a womanizer, when that’s not him at all.

one thing you don’t have in common, and one thing you do

One thing we don’t have in common is probably, for lack of a better word, toughness? Rocket has no hesitation when he needs to kill someone, but my S/I had a breakdown every freaking time. One thing we do have in common is the deep and profound loneliness and desire to be understood.

how do you resolve conflicts? how do you both typically react when faced with conflict or whilst dealing with an argument?

We don’t heavily disagree on anything important (like morals and ethics and stuff) so conflict is usually pretty surface level annoyance. Sometimes Drax is too loud, or says something mean on accident, or Rocket is having a bad day and snaps at us, or i feel too low energy to get stuff done, etc… usually the solution is to just spend some time away from each other to cool down and feel better. Sometimes an apology is needed, sometimes it’s just mutually understood.

have you met their friends/family? how did that go? do they even keep in contact with their friends/family?

I never met batch 89, or Drax’s late wife and daughter— but I have met Ego! And Thanos! 👍 neither of those went very well. Oh I also met Yondu and the rest of the Ravagers a few times, and Peter considers them family— there was some conflict before, but Yondu was a good friend to us. Also i thought he was kinda hot but don’t tell Peter.

if they have variations (timelines, skills, voiced languages, etc) which one is your favorite?

The biggest variations are probably their comic book vs movie characters, and while I’ve read a few of the old comics that feature the Guardians, I prefer my F/Os movie versions.

your favorite outfit/costume of theirs! if they don’t have any official skins or anything, show us something you think they’d look good in!

Rocket’s suit in the first Guardians of the Galaxy (the orange one) has a special place in my heart :3 but I also like how he looks in the Kyln’s prison outfit lol— yellow is my favorite color. As for Drax, I really really like his sleeveless shirt outfit in GOTG 3 :D

who confessed first and how did it go?

I confessed first to Drax, I’d say it went well because we ended up dating lmao. Then a little bit later Rocket realized that his feelings for me were more than platonic, but it still took him a long time to find the courage to tell me haha

did anyone know about your f/o’s feelings before they confessed? how did they find out?

Just little Groot. He and Rocket are besties, they tell each other everything.

if you have multiple f/os, do they fit into any “type?” ( e.g coincidentally they’re all smartasses, blonde, villains, etc. lol )

Kind of! Drax and Rocket aren’t very similar, but the common ground is Yondu (a crush of mine) who has a similar personality to Rocket and looks kind of like Drax (bald).

do you have any favorite scenarios you like to imagine your f/os in? ( domestic fluff, angsty, etc. )

I love hurt/comfort!!!!! I’ll get injured in battle and my F/Os will nurse me back to health!! Rocket will experience the emotional turmoil of having to fight a past abuser immediately after having a near death experience and seeing batch 89 in the sky and i’ll be there to help him through it!!!

have you ever thought about ( platonic or not ) marriage? would you consider it a good idea? why or why not?

Yeah :) I would 100% want to get married to both my romantic F/Os, especially Drax. He would be so excited about it! Me and Rocket are kind of just having fun, but it means a lot to him. All our friends would be there, too!

The wedding wouldn’t be too fancy, just one of the nicer buildings on Knowhere. Nebula, surprisingly, would offer to help plan. She’s very good at things like that. Everyone would be there (maybe Gamora would even swing by) and there’d be lots of good food and drinks. For a honeymoon, we’d probably go to one of the planets less involved in interplanetary crime— ooh, I bet Xandar has some nice vacation places :) we might even get a discount for saving the Galaxy haha.

if you live together, how does your home look like? who decided on the decor?

Knowhere is known for being more functional than pretty, but I just love making things look nice— Drax and Rocket don’t mind if I handle the decor, as long as it’s not too crazy, so I get to put in carpets and nice lighting and stuff! I enjoy paintings of landscapes, since Knowhere doesn’t really have any natural beauty. It’s very colorful.

do you, or plan to, have f/o kids? ( pets and plants count! ) bonus: if you have pets, do they show any favoritism?

Groot is our kid, but he’s pretty much grown up after vol3– we all want kids, but adoption is a big decision. I suppose we could have pets, but Rocket feels kind of weird about having a “lower life form” around.

what was it like when they first said ‘i love you’? how did you reply? where was it?

Drax first said I love you maybe a month after we started living on the Milano as a team. I was super flustered— obviously he meant it, he’s a terrible liar. I said it back, but I was a little embarrassed haha.

When Rocket first said I love you, it was late at night, and he and I were hanging out eating a midnight snack because he couldn’t sleep. We were both dead tired but Rocket was having nightmares and I didn’t want to leave him alone. This was a couple months after Vol2, and we hadn’t even started dating yet.

if you could make one thing 100% canon about them, what would it be?

It’s already implied in very few scenes, but I think it would be more realistic if Rocket’s cybernetics were more of a problem to him. In my canon, he has chronic pain and nerve damage from the surgeries, and needs to take special care to upkeep his metal parts.

how do you kill time with them when bored?

Drax loves to tell stories. I love listening to him. He also tries to tell jokes, which are pretty funny.

Rocket also talks a lot, but he likes to be doing something while we talk. When he and I have down time, he works on his inventions while I just lie down and we talk.

your favorite thing about your f/o, appearance wise

I love Rocket’s eyes 👁️👁️ they r so pretty I love brown eyes— also I like that Drax is taller than me lol. And I like Yondu’s mouth. His teeth are all messed up, but I like how he whistles and grins all pointy >:3 yk?

your favorite thing about your f/o, non-appearance wise

I love how deeply Rocket loves. He cares for his friends so much, it’s beautiful.

This was kind of touched on by Mantis in vol3, but I love Drax’s positivity despite everything he’s gone through.

what’s your dynamic like? any tropes you fit?

In terms of tropes that actually exist? Probably “sunshine x grumpy” and “best friends to lovers”

For Drax, the one I appreciate most is “nothing goes over my head… my reflexes are too fast, I would catch it.” And for Rocket, probably when he was telling little Groot how to set up the batteries to explode lol.

Omg Rocket does haha— he doesn’t get compliments often, so whenever I voice how much I love him and what exactly I like about him he kind of doesn’t know what to say. He also things I’m handsome :3

if you were in an emergency or stressful situation, which one of you’s the best at staying level headed keeping the other calm? who is the one absolutely freaking out?

We have emergency situations a lot, so it kind of depends. When threatened, Drax automatically goes into fight or flight (always fight, for him), and I usually try to find a peaceful way out of the situation. Rocket is almost always very good at keeping his cool in high-stakes battles, but some things throw him off.

what nicknames do you call each other?

My nicknames for Rocket: Rocky, love

Rockets nicknames for me: (embarrassing as fuck so only teasingly and in private, but—) Boo

My nicknames for Drax: Honey

In my phone: Rocket 🚀 and Drax🗡️

Rocket: has a few apps that Groot used to play games (now he plays them too lol), his wallpaper is a photo of all of the guardians

Drax: his phone is default settings for the wallpaper, ringtone, etc— hasn’t downloaded any apps either. He uses his phone mainly for taking thousands of pictures. Mostly of the stars, and other things he finds pretty, but we’re also in there :)

favorite memory involving them ( whether in your lore as a scenario, a scene from their media, or another physical experience like when you received merch etc )

Irl, my favorite memory is seeing GOTG vol3 in the movie theater :D but in universe, my favorite memory is just any time when we’re all together and happy ❤️

Drax gives big hugs :) he’s strong enough to pick me up and carry me around! And Rocket is more shy, but he likes to cuddle with me.

any funny or awkward moments you've experienced with them?

Actually yeah, with Peter— we worked and lived together for a few months several years before the events of the first movie. Peter asks a lot of questions, like “if you’re a shapeshifter, why is your dick small”.

who’s more likely to get into, or start fights? whether with each other or with others.

Rocket starts fights. He’s insecure, and steals batteries he doesn’t need, and there was a learning curve to living with him. We all love him very much though.

what were your first impressions of each other?

My first Impression of Rocket was that he was someone strong that I’d want to stay with— we were arrested and brought to the Kyln together, and he and Groot were protecting Peter, so I decided to stick around.

His first impression of me was that I was untrustworthy (because I tried to help Peter when he and Groot tried to kidnap him)

My first impression of Drax was that he was scary, so I treated him with respect. His first impression of me was that I was kind :)

do you have an anniversary date? how was it decided & how do you (plan to) celebrate it?

No I don’t lol— maybe I should

how did their personality or lifestyle change after befriending/getting with you?

Rocket used to live his life more… unhealthily. He drank a lot and got in fights and had only Groot to support him. Once he made friends with the rest of us (and me of course) he subconsciously began thinking his life actually had some worth, and for the most part, he wanted to stay alive.

Drax was filled with so much rage after losing his family. He thought killing their killer would make him feel better, but after Ronan was dealt with he didn’t feel any more satisfied. He learned slowly that he could only heal and feel better if he opened up and allowed himself to experience love again. He jokes around more, but also cries more— he’s not “fixed”, or without the bad memories, but rather he allows himself to feel things. Before, he coped with the grief by just destroying.

something you know about them, that many others don’t?

Peter often likes to make fun of Rocket for being afraid of spiders, because once they were exploring a planet with these giant bug creatures, and Rocket froze up and couldn’t kill them. The truth is, something Rocket’s only told me and Groot, is that they reminded him of Floor, with all the hydraulic legs skittering around.

how do they reassure or affirm their love for you?

Words of affirmation mostly, and quality time spent together. I need a lot of affirmation ;-;

what’s your funniest or most embarrassing memory together?

I always love when we’re on a mission and need disguises >:3 very fun. one time we were going to a fancy gala, and we had to dress up in nice fancy clothes, but we didn’t even get halfway through the event before Drax took his shirt off and got in trouble.

what’s their sense of humor like? how easy is it to make them laugh?

Rocket and Drax are both kind of immature with their humor— Drax in a more childish way, and Rocket is just kind of a dick. Like he thinks those videos of people falling down or getting hurt are funny lmao— or, as per canon, stealing people’s prosthetics.

what inside jokes do you share?

Mostly about Gamora and Peter’s will they/won’t they relationship. We placed bets on whether they’d get together or not. I lost.

if necessary, how do you wake them up? how do they wake you up?

I’m the one who gets woken up lol, I sleep wayyy too much. Rocket usually tries to be nice about it but Drax is straight to the point and just shakes me awake lmao

any daily routines or habits you two follow?

Life is busy on Knowhere, so we don’t spend every day together. However, we at least try to have breakfast and dinner together every day :) it’s really great!

what do others in source say about your relationship? do you keep it a secret?

Everyone, for the most part, is supportive. Though there are planets like Earth where polyamory might be considered odd, in space (like businesses where you travel a lot and practically live on your ship) it’s pretty typical. We’re all men, too, but that’s pretty normal— for example, Kraglin’s been married 14 times, and has only one ex-wife.

We’ve never kept it secret.

if you have more than one f/o from the same media, which one were you drawn to first? any lore connection like did they introduce you to the others? did one make you fall for the other?

Irl, I was drawn to Rocket first. Something about his voice and personality 🫣 I thought he was so cute.

In lore, technically Peter introduced me to everyone. It did not take long for me to fall for Drax, but because Rocket was more standoffish at first, we were just friends for a long time.

dream piece of merchandise or f/o-related experience you’d like to have

I don’t even know if they make these, but I’d really like a life size weighted plushie of Rocket :,)

how are they like when vulnerable?

Rocket gets angry. He cries and then hates himself for crying, so he picks fights with Peter and then hates himself more.

Drax is very quiet. He doesn’t like to show his emotions in front of everybody, so he isolated himself.

It’s important to me :) I love thinking of scenarios for our first kiss, first date, etc :D this post actually made me realize that I’d want a wedding with them, so I’ll have a lot of fun thinking about that!

if you have a s/i, how’d you go about creating their design? what went into their lore? how do the others in the source feel about your s/i?

Well, I just started imagining it— I wanted to be kind of humanoid, but I didn’t want to be Terran like Peter. I settled on a shapeshifter alien because I love the freedom of being able to change things and explain it as “oh lol he just decided to have pointy teeth that day” because he’s a shapeshifter :) I also thought it would be cool if his true form was kind of reptilian, because snakes are my favorite animal!

does your s/i hold similarities to you, is completely like you or completely different from you? do you even have a s/i?

Personality wise, we are very similar. He looks different from me because what human features he has are just kind of how I would want to look (for example, he is bigger than I am and has facial hair, and I want to look like that but I don’t because I’m trans 🥲)

thoughts on AUs/canon divergent things? do you prefer to stick as closely to canon as possible or no?

I love AUs! I’m focusing on canon things right now though; the most canon-divergent things get are the fact that I decided to have Rocket settle down and live with me on Knowhere post vol3 instead of being the new captain.

However, when I was depressed and in 10th grade (as if I’m not still depressed lmao) I kind of coped with the stress and shame of being not “good” enough to go to a normal school by imagining that I went to my weird little school and became friends with the highschool AU Guardians. It was really comforting because they were all also too fucked up for public school, and I felt less lonely. I think I still have some drawings from back then!

quick! your f/o’s just spawned in front of you, now what do you do?!

Well, I would probably be really embarrassed because I’m in my pajamas, but I guess I’d take them outside so we could talk without waking up my parents haha. After telling them where we are, what year it is, etc, then I’d probably tell my parents. My dad would probably kick them out of the house🥲

do they have any superstitions they believe in?

It seems unfair to call this a superstition, but the only thing Rocket really believes in is the afterlife. He didn’t used to, but after seeing the rest of batch 89 in the sky, he’s not so afraid of death anymore.

would you or your f/o ever get matching things? ( keychains, tattoos, shirts, etc ) do they find it cringy or cute?

Rocket and I would have matching necklaces :) Drax really loves our wedding rings— they were a gift from Peter.

who’s more the scaredy cat out of you two?

Me by a long shot. I don’t get squeamish with blood and gore (kind of a requirement in our line of work) but whenever we fight gross looking monsters it really freaks me out. The hellspawn the HE created were by far the worst.

what kind of things is your f/o into? games, music, decor, whatever!

Rocket kind of adopted Peter’s taste in music :) he also likes to watch movies— horror movies especially. That’s something he and I have in common :) I enjoy them for spooks, but he thinks they’re hilarious.

the most random thing you associate with your f/o (foods, shapes, even textures! anything that’s not an obvious)

For Rocket: having really good muscle memory for driving a vehicle, or doing something with your hands. It’s kind of silly but, like, seeing someone solve a Rubik’s cube super fast reminds me of how he puts together scraps of metal.

For Drax: genuine laughter. It’s so lovely <3

anything your f/o absolutely hates, but you absolutely love?

Rocket can’t stand spicy food, but I absolutely love it 😋 and Drax really doesn’t like heat, but I enjoy it :) summer is my favorite season

any aesthetic or -core you associate with your f/o, whether it be due to their design or personality?

Ummmm space pirate :0 I don’t know if that makes sense, but like— have you seen Treasure Planet? That kinda deal. Danger and adventure and really stylish outfits, but also futuristic technology.

For all of us, probably being in a good place to adopt kids. Right now Rocket is still dealing with his past, and Drax is busy helping Nebula with repairing Knowhere, but maybe a couple years in the future we could think about it :)

your favorite f/o fun fact or bit of lore

Rocket loves dancing. He loves singing. He loves music. Especially with Groot, haha— they have a lot of fun. And with Drax, I absolutely adore that he’s so good with kids. I love Nebula’s quote about how he wasn’t made to be a destroyer, he was made to be a dad. It was tragic that he lost his daughter, but the fact that he still has love in his heart to care for the kids we rescued from the High Evolutionary…

Drax is such a sad character, and that isn’t recognized enough. When he and Mantis are on Ego’s planet, and she uses her empathic abilities to feel his emotions and is immediately overwhelmed with sadness, all the while Drax is completely calm. He rarely shows on his face how truly sad he is.

I was hoping there’s be a question I’d be able to fit this into (something like “what is a way you help your F/O and vice versa”) but I am a huge sucker for non-sexual intimacy. Rocket has cybernetics on his back, and they need special care to upkeep them, and he used to have Groot take care of that, but after he passed away in the first movie… anyway, at that point, I’m Rocket’s closest friend, so even though I’m nervous as hell because I suck at robotics, Rocket asks me to help with occasional tune ups and cleaning. Hmm I guess I could have added this to our domestic routines… lol whatever. Anyway that trust means a lot to me ❤️

GOTG Review: Astria Ascending

This is the next game in my Backlog Roulette series, where each month I spin a wheel to randomly select a game on my massive backlog that I must play (though not necessarily to completion). These wheel spins occur on the monthly preview episodes I co-host with my friends on The Casual Hour podcast.

There’s a phenomena about robots you’ve probably heard of before. It’s called the uncanny valley. The idea is the closer a robot looks and acts like a human, the more its inaccuracies are scrutinized and criticized by real humans. The reasons could be myriad — it could be the way it looks or sounds or moves or something else entirely — but the important thing is that it’s not…right. Astria Ascending lives in its own uncanny valley. But it’s not one of being human, rather, it’s one of being a JRPG classic.  

There’s another saying famous saying: “If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.” Astria Ascending certainly looks like a great JRPG, its Vanillaware-like character design is striking, with a number of unique races from the beastly feline Arktans to the angular and serpent-esque Zeft. The art direction in general is often a sight to behold. The hub area especially has a real electricity about it, with many gorgeous structures. 

It swims like a great JRPG as well. Opening the menu reveals a wave of systems and mechanics. Each of the eight party members has their own starting class, equipment type, skill tree and abilities. Combat sees you use four of your party members at any one time, though you can swap out members mid-battle for strategic advantages. There are a suite of buffs and debuffs that can be applied to your team or to enemies. There’s a summon system. There’s even a Bravely Default-style system that lets you spend resources for more powerful attacks in a single turn. 

And hey, it even quacks like an RPG classic. The premise is undeniably cool: The world is protected by a faction of eight demigods, people from around the world who were drafted into service and given incredible power, but also given just a few short years to live. And the current group — your playable characters — are just three months away from a pretty permanent retirement as they work to protect the world fully knowing they won’t be around to see the fruits of their effort. The writing and voice acting (both in Japanese and English) are well done. And musically, composer Hitoshi Sakimoto, who has contributed to Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy XII and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim does solid work here as well.

But unfortunately, looking, swimming and quacking like a great JRPG is not enough to make you one. And it’s in the details where Astria Ascending falls.

The game looks beautiful…in stills. Characters’ idle animations are so fast and so wild they become distracting. Walking and running animations are awkward too. There’s a real “Live 2D” look to everything going on here that just is devoid of personality. Battles don’t fare much better as animations and effects for spells and attacks are weak and flat. It’s such a bummer seeing cool characters move in such lifeless ways. 

Astria Ascending does have a wide array or systems though…too big of an array, in fact. You start the game with your full party of eight, which means you have eight classes, each with their own massive skill tree to attend to. And before you can unlock much of anything on one of these trees, you’re given additional access to a choice of three upgraded job classes per character that open up a second full skill tree. And later you’re given sub jobs and support jobs, which create even more headaches. I love tinkering with character builds, but this is just too much. Oh, and those upgraded job choices are permanent, so you better be happy with your picks. 

This skill tree is fine, but when every one of the eight characters has two of these each (and most of the things on it are flat stat buffs), it becomes both overwhelming and monotonous.

And all of this mechanics and systems just end up making the game’s many, many fights long and tedious, often with little reward. It got to the point where I turned the difficulty down to its lowest setting just to mercifully pick up the pace. 

When you’re not fighting, you’re walking around incredibly simple and bland Metroidvania-like environments. The structure feels a lot like Vanillaware’s Muramasa: The Demon Blade, where dungeons are made up of 2D side-scrolling rooms that can branch off in multiple directions. But each of Muramasa’s screens are visually distinct and built for dynamic platforming and action combat. Astria Ascending’s rooms all look the same and you mostly just hop around to solve the most basic of puzzles. 

Every dungeon ends up looking this spartan, with identical room connecting to identical room. It's easy to get lost.

And as for the quacking part, while the premise is cool, half the game is spent going back and forth among everyone’s hometowns, solving very similar problems before going back to the main hub to report in. It feels less like a grand adventure or unravelling a mystery and more like running errands with no payoff.

The music is also CONSTANT. There are no quiet moments. There is very little up or down. The tracks are fine, but they're implemented so poorly. They're just always there, sometimes drowning out the voice acting. And those voices, while nice performances, sound awfully similar (especially for the female English voices), and since the camera is almost always zoomed out, it can be quite difficult to know who’s talking.

The speech bubbles are also of little assistance when it comes to knowing who's speaking.

At this point, I suppose it’s clear that I didn’t like Astria Ascending, but I do find it to be an interesting case study for what makes a JRPG good or bad. Astria Ascending pretty strictly follows the formula of classic JRPG design, but while it hits the right notes and plays them in the right order, there’s just no soul to this music. Even if developer Artisan Studios addressed all of the issues I listed above, I’m still not sure the game would be good. Because it would still be missing a thousand little details that even I can’t so easily put my finger on. 

Astria Ascending is not a bad game, not in a technical sense anyway. It’s just one that lacks heart and passion. It’s a photocopy, an amalgamation of good things from other games without the understanding of what those good things mean or how they should interact.

It’s uncanny. And once you see it, you can't unsee it.

Ive posted this to IG and twitter before. Again, art for just fillers sake. Kinda an art vs artist version 2022 but not all of these were done this year.

I mentioned on IG that this year started off really rough. We got hit at the same time with both my husbands dad passing away and our cat at the same time. It was a rough January. I then lost both grandmothers. We did do some cool things. Disney at easter time was a lot of fun. We did the new ratatouille ride, husband got to do Rise of the Resistance for the first time but unfortunately the new GotG ride wasnt open yet. I also got to see my first ever Cirque du Soleil show and saw Alannis Morrisette in concert. I also got really lucky with art companies sending me lots of art freebies. Its been so cool. I never thought Id ever be worthy of art freebies.

Now ofcourse we are just hanging out in our hotel. Housing said theyd hopefully have our house ready next week. Im so ready to be moved in and buy new stuff for our home. Our apartment we had a mantle over a fireplace for our tv and now I think we need to go buy a tv stand. I dont know why thats exciting but it is. I also tossed all our old shower curtains so now Im going to retheme the bathrooms 8D

Ofcourse having my art space back would be nice. Its hard to create outside a comfy spot.

As for the area..now Ive lived in the southwest before but I think my dog is missing the grass. Shes having a hard time using the bathroom with her little feet and decorative rocks. We've yet to track down a dog park just yet but shes overdue for a game of fetch.

My first impression was how huge this city was. Like I knew it was large based on population but like idk..guess I thought people would build up? Everything is like single story accross a vast flat land. Its so weird to see houses go that far back. I am so far enjoying the amenities. Alot of the neighborhoods are definitely screaming border city ghetto. Ive yet to wander into the higher class neighborhoods yet but even amongst the ghetto looking houses they have so many amentities in one place. I havent seen a super target in years and I went in one today 8D and we've gone indoor rock climbing twice so far. I got dutch bros coffee (Im never going back but Ive never been to one before!!!). And they have a disney store here! A DISNEY STORE. I THOUGHT THEY WERE ALL DEAD! They had simba/nala plushies and I put them back 8(

What Im most excited for is one of the 3 rock gyms is 5 mins from my house and free to me. The major regular gym is accross the street. The army post here is the fanciest Ive ever seen. Theres a starbucks down the street too. So honestly if I could find remote work I never need to leave post really.

Anywho I applied for a couple jobs. Im still a bit overwhelmed and its really hard to job search and fill out apps on a phone/ipad. Much easier on a desktop. And its obviously very much so like a foreign country. I have heard more Spanish here than English which is also..making..job hunting interesting.

But Im not going to worry for now.

I am going to make another tumblr post later probably about other things Ive accomplished this year but this ones long enough.

Don’t hide Loki’s things

Marvel fanfic | Loki x Reader

Summary: Reader is sassing Loki and hides his stuff, prompting a chase where Loki ends up tickling reader to reveal the location of his things

Author’s Note: Prompt that won first place in the poll (Option: Loki 2). Second place (GOTG 6) will come shortly, and I’m still deciding how I want to go about a tie breaker for 3rd place lol. Based off prompt from @delightfulfics

Word Count: 1,336

“Go away.” Loki said in frustration, rolling his eyes after the second paper ball hit him in the back of the head. He was being a sour puss lately, largely due to boredom of not being trusted to join the other Avengers on missions, and you thought maybe if you could convince him to do an activity that he might start being a little cheerier, or at least a little less sour.

You moved to stand in front of him and put on your best ‘cute and innocent’ face as you lowered the book he was reading. “Aw, you know you'd be bored without me.”

“Boredom would be a most welcome friend compared to your presence at the moment.” Loki said, pulling back his book and turning so his back was facing you again.

You turned with him, grinning. “Well that’s not nice. Why don’t you put down the book and we can do something. We could watch a movie?”

“I’m not interested in your moving pictures. One can only watch the reptilian movie so many times.”

“Hey, Jurassic Park is a classic, Lucky Charms.” You grinned, trying to provoke him, knowing Loki hated it when you called him by that name.

Loki looked up at you with dark eyes. You finally got his attention. Putting down his book his stood, towering over you. “Well if you insist on bothering me, then I suppose I’ll go for a walk.”

“Cool! Let’s go to-”

“Alone.” 

The words came from his voice, but the man in front of you did not move his mouth at all. You heard the door shut behind you and watched in confusion as his form shimmered away before your eyes.

Realizing you had been tricked you didn’t bother to chase him down, instead you turned your attention to the book he had been reading, and you got an idea.

About an hour later, you heard Loki return. From your place on the couch you could hear his footsteps walking to his room, some shuffling noises, and then slightly angrier footsteps exiting his room and walking in your direction as his called out your name.

His eyes were narrowed as he asked if you had seen his book anywhere.

“What book? Can you be more specific?” you grinned, mostly from nerves than from anything else. You knew you sucked at lying.

He stepped toward you, prompting you to get up from the couch and pretend you needed something from the other side of the room.

“You know very well what book, and I’m not going to entertain the notion that you didn’t take it, now where did you put it?”

You reached the other side of the room and you wasted no time opening the door, hearing him already approaching you. You quickly made your way through it without a word and shut it behind you and took off running, nervous giggles bubbling up your throat as you heard him rip open the door and sternly call your name.

You rounded a corner and ducked into a stairwell. You could hear Loki calling your name as you descended the stairs. You considered camping out there for a little bit until you heard the door above you open just as you reached the bottom of the flight. Startled, you looked up to see Loki, almost surprised that he had such a close tail on you, but you supposed that’s what you got for not looking behind you as you ran. With a squeak you ripped open the door and bolted, nearly knocking into Happy as you did so. 

“Whoa, Whoa, Whoa! Where’s the fire?” He called.

“No fire,” you panted. Just then Loki shot out of the stairwell, a playful look of murder in eyes. You squeaked out, “Loki!” as the rest of your answer to Happy and took off again.

You know you couldn’t outrun the god, so you ducked into the nearest room, not sticking around long enough to see what happened to Happy, knowing that he’d probably be dumb enough to try and stop Loki. You knew Loki wouldn’t hurt him, but you also knew he wasn’t going to let him stand in the way of his target either. 

[Little did you know, Loki just calmly walked up to Happy, who looked at him suspiciously, but after Loki explained that you two “were playing a simple game of tag” and he was “it” Happy simply let him pass. Oh, gullible Happy...]

You didn’t waste time. You were grateful to see that you had ducked into a room with another door, and even luckier, it wasn’t a closet. Before you ran out into the hall, you thought better. Surely Loki saw you run into this room. He’d be there any second. Instead, you left the door wide open and went instead to crouch behind the large drink bar on the right side of the room, suddenly grateful for Tony’s over-abundance of rooms for parties.

Just as you thought, Loki entered the room not long after. Not peeking, as you didn’t want to accidentally be seen, you still heard him chuckle as he no doubt fell for your plan for him to think you ran on through, before he ran though the door himself. 

You waited just a bit to make sure he was gone before you quickly got up to walk back out the door you had entered in, intent to run back up to the stairs to gain a larger head start on Loki, maybe hide away in Steve or Nat’s rooms, somewhere Loki might not think to look. 

However, the moment you walked out the door and softly closed it behind you, you were startled by a loud “Boo!” shouted behind you. Clutching your heart, your eyes widened in horror as you spun around to find Loki standing there.

Damn! He hadn’t fallen for your trick, you had fallen for his trick! 

Before you could take off, Loki caught you by the arm, a mischievous gleam in his eye. “I’ll give you one chance, my dear. Where’s my book?”

Nervous giggles poured from your mouth as you said, “Uh... What book?”

Loki tutted, “That was a mistake.” and before you had a chance to think his fingers flew to your ribs, tickling them mercilessly.

You squealed, backing into the door you had just closed, and now very much wishing you hadn’t and foolishly thinking you might have been able to escape your torment if you had left it open. You grasped at his wrists, trying in vain to smack him away as you shrieked for him to stop. 

“You had a chance, now you’re learning why it’s not wise to steal from the God of Mischief.” There was laughter in his voice. You apparently had succeeded in your goal to cure him of his sourness, but by god, at what cost?

You slid down to the floor and he only followed you down, laughing with you as you laughed your head off and begged for mercy when his fingers began to attack your stomach. 

“You better tell me where you hid my book, and give me an apology for taking it in the first place, otherwise I can just stay here and find all your most sensitive areas to make you laugh and squeal for hours.” 

He may have been the god of lies but you had no doubt he’d keep true to his word this time. Breathlessly you cried out, “OKAY! Okay! I give up! Second floor! Coat closet! I’m sorry! Please! I’m sorry!”

Loki stopped with a grin, looking down at you as you gasped for air. “Thank you,” he said, but you noticed he didn’t get up, he was still straddling you, looking down at you and grinning that grin of his that he wore when he was up to no good. 

He spoke again, “But, to make sure you’ve fully learned your lesson...”

Your eyes widened as he grinned wider. “WAIT-”

But of course, he didn’t.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Film Review

           Sonic has raced back to the silver screen in a sequel that takes everything that was great about the original and charges it up. As he faces threats both new and old, Sonic makes new friends and learns what it takes to be a real hero.

           Sonic The Hedgehog 2 stars Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic. The film also features Sonic veteran Colleen O’Shaunessey as the voice of Tails and Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles. James Mardsen and Tika Sumpter also return as Tom and Maddie Wachowski.

I found this movie to be more than generally acceptable. I think they did a good job of expanding on the first film. The writers added two more classic characters and more plot elements from the lore of Sonic. Sonic really got his time to shine in this one. Getting to see him adventure with Tails and battle with Knuckles not just physically but also  ideologically was very fun. He’s one of the most purely good characters in cinema right now, and it’s nice to see a hero who is willing to save the day no matter what.

           Tails and Knuckles were both great in the film. Knuckles was the fun and reliable sidekick he’s always been. He was integral to the plot and one of the brightest parts of the film. He looked cool using his powers and he also got to ride a plane, which was a nice touch. Knuckles proved to be a worthy foil to Sonic. His character arc through the film was good, better than I expected. I’d compare him to Drax from the GoTG films, except with his feelings of revenge focused towards Sonic and instead of Dr. Robotnik.

           The additions of these characters, as well as the introduction of the Chaos and Master Emeralds, are all great ways the filmmakers have expanded the sequel with the help of the lore of Sonic. It made the film feel bigger, and gave it the feel of an adventure film as well as a superhero film. It also made Knuckle's connection to Sonic more personal, and more tragic. Also this film has a mid credits scene that introduces another classic Sonic character that I know will be really cool.

           The other human characters have less screen time this time around but they were still crucial to the plot. The Wackowskis and Wade all helped Sonic and Tails save the day. I actually enjoyed Maddie’s sister in this one more than the last one, especially when she helped Maddie save Tales from a new secret government task force led by “Olive Garden Guy” from the first movie. Also how Shemar Moore looks absolutely chiseled at 51 is beyond me. I need to get me one of those Hollywood personal trainers.

           This. Film. Looks. Amazing. The animation quality is some of the best I’ve ever seen, especially in a video game adaptation. Sonic and friends were able to keep their iconic looks from the games while mostly looking like they could exist in our world. The hair animation is flawless, the texture and follicles were impeccable. There’s a moment where Sonic washes up onto a beach and the sand realistically gets stuck in his hair. Props to the CG department because they really went all out on this movie. It just shows that everybody working on this film really cares about the final product.

           I knew I had to end my analysis of the film with a bang, and what better a bang than talking about the human-cartoon acting god that is Jim Carrey. I enjoyed every second that Jim Carrey was on the screen. He was goofy, quirky, and absolutely unhinged. It was as if he fully channeled his Riddler energy into his performance this time around, because he was on a whole new level of bonkers in Sonic 2. It’s like his Riddler walked so his Dr. Robotnik could run. If this is the last time we see Carrey on the silver screen, then he gave us a really god damn fun one.

           In closing I highly recommend you watch this delight in a theater. Get yourself a big ol bucket of popcorn, with extra butter of course, and just let yourself feel joy again. Sonic exists to bring joy to children and the parents that introduce Sonic to them. To bring joy to the older siblings who want to show their younger siblings the fun hero and all his friends. Sonic exists to bring people together. Paramount, keep everyone on board, they are making the most solid video game movies to date. And one last thing, do you have the number of Shemar Moore’s personal trainer? I wanna have nice muscles like him. Please Paramount, help a guy out!

Fun scripted memories I have in my DR bc I can.

Eddie and I having breakfast across the table without speaking and just giving each 9ther a mini wave and smile.

Watching the sunrise or set with Bruce. (This was my first Core memory and I the first thing i do, everything is in the Tickle series 😂)

Thor and Loki taking me to asgard and giving me a dress, it's gorgeous and Thor does my hair and Loki helps when Thors a bit rough <3

When the snap eventually does happen, I go back to the compound and go in my room. Bc I have the stones in my blood I'm technically one of the strongest in other ways so I was able to hold on. But I was also snapped. Before I go thiugh, wade comes in and sees me beginning to fade and we hug with tears in our eyes and I'm just dust.

I actually have tickles scripted, so wade knows I enjoy them and loves taking the piss 💀

Damn Sony that was a lot to unpack yesterday and IT WAS SO HYPE so let’s go through it (me gush about video games the entire time)

Spider-Man 2 is the one I’m most excited for not gonna lie the new suits look amazing and I love that they pulled a dark knight/Arkham city with them by just improving on what worked and adding new details and kraven the Hunter looks like he will be big which is a first witch is awesome and of course venom who looks amazing and scared the sh*t out of me so yeah I’m hyped

God of war ragnarok looks sick continuing the adventures of Kratos and BOY also delivering on hints littered throughout the last game with new mystery’s with Thor and tyr showing up which was amazing so I’m excited yay

KOTOR remake has got me so excited (since I love Star Wars) and I just finished fallen order so my body is ready for some sick Star Wars action and to see my man Revan again

Never really played borderlands (NO I DIDN’T DEAL WITH IT INTERNET) but it looks pretty good and bat shit insane literally that is one big ass bat so yeah looks cool probably won’t ever play I but it looks dop

This looks so cool and the fact that it’s probably gonna be in the same universe as Spider-Man looks good and wolvie has a pretty good track record with him having one of the rare movie tie in games ever so I’m hyped as hell bub

Tchia looks very promising with gorgeous art style cool body hoping mechanics and BOTW gliding and wind waker boating and a enticing story so yeah looks good

Uncharted is a series I enjoy and now a updated collection nice not too much to say looks great and I can’t wait to see my man Nathan drake back in action thieving it up again

We get a new look at the new GOTG and I’m still not that excited for it with only one of the five playable not much to be it looks ok but not that hyped but I’m ok on it

Top 7 Favourite Aspec Headcanons

I was tagged by @kimmycup in this tag game for International Asexuality Day. Don't look up how long ago that was. >.< ANYWAY

1. Drax: Demisexual. I saw this headcanon on someone's post ages ago and immediately adopted it. It's one of my more consistent headcanons. He definitely has demi vibes in the 2021 video game.

2. Korath (1): Aroace. A lot of my shorter form Korath content is allo but this is one headcanon I like and use in some MCU verse Ronan/Korath WIPs. It's basically about Ronan having a one-sided crush on Korath. He knows Korath is kinky so he takes advantage of the Accuser role to offer him lots of fun stuff to play with. Just happy evil partners stuff.

3. Korath (2): Alloromantic Ace. This one comes from a post that really got me thinking about What If Korath figuring out sexuality outside of the Kree expectations and his crush on T'Challa. I don't have a lot of ideas about it yet but I like it.

4. Nebula: Ace (romantic orientation varies). It's a common one in the MCU but I think it would be cool for What If too. Sort of thinking about how both of the Daughters, but especially Nebula have this femme fatale vibe at points in GOTG that they quickly drop in missions, and the idea that in What If she has the chance to play with presentation and flirting on her own terms without pressure.

Come to think of it, I have Nebula/T'Challa/Korath WIPs and prompts with ace Nebula but not ace Korath, or ace Korath but not ace Nebula. I'd like to try coming up with one where they both are ace.

5. Thanos: Ace. Another one I started liking from reading a post. I like to think about Thanmaw with pining Ebony and ace or demi Thanos and I just like it.

6. I can't think of any more lol.

I Watched Captain America: The Winter Soldier For The First Time

So, I've seen most of the MCU, except CA:TWS, AoU, Iron Man 3, & GotG Vol. 2. So when I missed a movie night on my server where we were going to watch the captain america movie, I was disapointed. SO I said I'd just watch it myself later. @night-scroller kindly offered me use of the movie night channel to live-blog my thoughts.

So, here they are. Unedited. And mostly me thirsting for Natasha and Bucky like the hopeless bisexual I am.

GOTG Review: Hypnospace Outlaw

This is the next game in my Backlog Roulette series, where each month I spin a wheel to randomly select a game on my massive backlog that I must play (though not necessarily to completion). These wheel spins occur on the monthly preview episodes I co-host with my friends on The Casual Hour podcast.

Both of my parents were educators at my elementary school (they're retired now.) Mom was a 3rd grade teacher and Dad taught gym. They both would stay after classes were over to work on lesson plans or grade papers or move equipment, and I got to freely choose which one to spend time with before we got to go home. With Dad, I would mostly practice free throws in the gym (though I never got any good at them). But with Mom, I’d often get to play on her computer (when I wasn’t watching Digimon Adventure on her classroom TV.

That was probably my first real experience with computers. I’d play things like Oregon Trail II (the best one, by the way) or an awful typing program called PAWS featuring a freaky Cheshire-Cat-like mascot. But sometimes, I would load up Netscape Navigator and just poke around on the late ‘90s internet. 

I hated this cat so much as a kid.

I only remember bits and pieces of that time online. A Sokoban block-pushing puzzler, a Super Mario Bros. fan game with all-new levels, some first-person hovercraft racer that had multiplayer LAN capabilities (I’ve never been able to find that game since, it’s definitely not Hover! by Microsoft.) a fansite for the Sonic Underground cartoon. Even with my fragmented memory, I remember the joy and adventure I had just digging around. Anything could be around that next corner, and that was half the fun.

Hypnospace Outlaw is the closest I’ve ever come to reliving those formative computer experiences. Set in an alternate 1999, you are thrust into Hypnospace — an internet stand-in that’s part GeoCities and part forum chatroom — and are asked to moderate and police this online Wild West. 

Developer Tendershoot has nailed the tone and aesthetic of this era. The highly compressed bitmap images, the way pages auto-play (incredible) music when they load, the terrible, terrible fonts, the fileshare servers that are completely inscrutable unless you know exactly what you’re looking for — it’s all just perfect. And it’s not just Hypnospace. The game has its own little desktop computer experience complete with email, virtual pets, a download manager and more. It reminds me of Cibele or Her Story, but much more freeform and robust. But all that is just aesthetic —  the game itself is pretty cool too. As a Hypnospace moderator, you’re given little jobs as you explore the various pages and zones of the browser: Take down some copyrighted material here, censor some threatening speech there, find some lost files that are hanging around…somewhere. Some of these tasks just require you to pay close attention to the pages themselves, while others force you to put on your hacker cap as you cross reference ID codes with unlisted pages, crack passwords or decrypt files, all while a corporate conspiracy bubbles up around you. 

It’s truly satisfying to use your online sleuthing skills to their fullest. And whether you’re stopping a virus from breaking the virtual world or just banning a kid who can’t seem to stop making offensive webcomics, you just feel this sense of power.

In many ways, Hypnospace Outlaw the platonic ideal of the concept of late-90s computing. I do wonder if that hyper-specific aesthetic and mechanics gives it too narrow of an audience, but as someone who is part of that narrow audience, I found my experience with it to be incredibly fun. And it’s one I won’t soon forget.

Since you talked about the game and how Hulk sucked in it, what do you think of the MCU?

MCU Hulk sucking dampers my enjoyment of it overall, but damn if it isn't an impressive accomplishment.

Right so I'm not reviewing every individual movie but looking at it overall you have to be impressed. For better or worse they've pretty much replicated the Marvel Comic experience with films. You have your individual solo films that tell self-contained stories but also all feed back in to the overall storyline that gets focused on in the Avengers team-ups. With Infinity War and Endgame they even managed to capture the excitement of a crossover event at their best. There are changes made, as all adaptions do, but the people working on this franchise clearly have a lot of affection for the source material, something that is lacking with other attempts to copy this kind of shared universe. Seriously look at all the failed copycats: DC, Universal, Sony's "Spider Cinematic Universe" plans, etc. If the MCU is a conveyor belt it's a damn well put together one. Undeniable that a lot of characters sound the same (how many quippy hotheads do we need?) but there is enough variety in what films are put out that it didn't feel like everything was just an Iron Man reskin the way detractors claim.

Overall the biggest achievement was that the MCU succeeded on the backs of B and C-Listers. None of the general public knew about or cared about Iron Man, and now he's one of the most popular superheroes around. Cap, Thor, and Iron Man have been treated as Marvel's equivalent to the DC Trinity, something I don't agree with, but it's undeniable that those three have become hugely popular post-MCU. Guardians of the Galaxy were obscure even amongst comics hardcore before their movie, now they've got a video game coming out (and unlike Avengers it seems to be reviewing well?). Wild seeing GotG treated as one of Marvel's most prominent teams, also hilarious how Pratt went from being reddit's self-insert and tumblr's crush to the guy they hate the most once they found out he was religious. Black Panther is the obvious second-best success story, people went from crying for black versions of white heroes, to getting more interested in the underrated original black characters once they realized that a lot of them were cool. Was very happy personally to see one of my favorite Marvel characters get a wider audience, shame Marvel seems to be planning to kill off T'Challa and Coates completely wasted the hype on his boring ass run. Hopefully Blade can recapture some of the hype.

Conversely some of their most popular characters pre-MCU haven't been treated well at all. Hulk obviously, but yes, I'm not a Holland Spider-Man fan either. Won't rehash old arguments but there you have it. Many of the MCU villains were as much a miss as the heroes were a hit. Ultron sucked which is a huge bummer given he more than Thanos is one of the most iconic and dangerous Avengers foes. Red Skull was completely wasted. The two breakout villains were Loki and Thanos which were both adapted extremely well. Really, given how bad the MCU usually is at conveying the threat of a villain, it's a miracle Thanos turned out as good as he did.

Man was he fucking good, kicking the Avengers collective ass and actually winning in IW. IW and EG absolutely lived up to the hype for me personally, I felt like they tied up the main Avengers plotlines pretty well (Hulk continued to suck but at that point I had given up on him). Tony going out on "I am Iron Man", Steve getting his happy ending while entrusting the mantle to Sam, Natasha making a sacrifice for the team, Thor getting his shit back together, it was all pretty enjoyable. Wasn't perfect but as the culmination of over a decade's worth of blockbuster movies it was damn good.

Yet I have to say after Endgame I pretty much felt done. I'll probably go see No Way Home simply for MacGuire and Rami nostalgia, but I have no real desire to keep watching religiously anymore. Haven't seen Shang-Chi, won't be watching Eternals or BP2 (entirely because they reuse to recast), the only other project I have some interest in is the rumor of a World War Hulk movie. How the hell would that work with Ruffalo Hulk and without an Illuminati? They already wasted Planet Hulk on an admittedly great Thor movie. I'd probably go just out of pure curiosity for what they do, but otherwise? I think I'm tapping out just like Star Wars. And just like Star Wars I think there will plenty of people to replace me and I'm ok with that. Hopefully they get as much joy out of whatever the next Phase of the MCU is as I did with the Infinity Saga.

If it were me, I'd put the showcase in reverse. I'd have FF Origins, LiS, and whatever else was in that presentation before the Marvel stuff cause let's be real, your showcase isn't great if people are bored/burnt out 10 minutes in because you haven't moved onto another game.

Like really we went from 20ish minutes of Marvel, then Final Fantasy and Legend of Mana for like 10 seconds, and then BACK TO MARVEL like they couldn't include the Black Panter stuff with the GOTG stuff, then to mobile games, then to LiS, then the 2 minutes of FF Origins, and then the show's over.

I'm glad GOTG is getting a game and it looks cool, but it didn't need 20ish minutes of footage. That's something you save for the end of a presentation, not start with it. And even then, it was enough for Marvel to have their own showcase.

Marvel, I get that you're worried that GOTG might end up like Avengers, but fam you promoted the shit out of Avengers when you announced it (you still are), you had a whole showcase for it, and it still flopped. The less you show of a game when you announce it, the more surprises you leave for the audience. You didn't have to show off the gameplay here.

I went in thinking "Y'know we could get some more info about FFXVI since it's the next mainline game, but if there isn't, that's cool too. I'm not expecting any Kingdom Hearts since we're on a break, but I keep a little hope because of how DDD's development went. I doubt we'll get 7R Part 2 since Integrade came out, but if it was there, it'd be a nice surprise."

Square's showcase was a mess and everyone knows it. I got more enjoyment from the Xbox presentation and I don't even play Xbox.
