I wanted to start a new sketchbook with gold acrylic paint marker for the shine. I think it looks fun in real life but I don't think it equates well online.

anyway, my husband comes home in a couple days. I have cleaned a lot. I did like a full house cleaning almost including scrubbing the toilets and washing rugs. I got new sheets for the bed. I was going to get things like new toothbrushes and soap but he said he wanted to get those on his own.

I can't really shop for food because unfortunately sometime this week they are having a surprise power outage to test emergency response. So electricity and everything is supposed to be out for 12 hours. They said try not to stock the fridge full of food and buy a bunch of bottled water. I have like no food in my fridge anyway. So my husband will just get off the plane and be hungry...

I also mowed the weeds Im growing instead of my lawn. I replanted a bunch of grass seed.

He doesnt know social media but I did get a welcome home cake and I put it in the freezer because Im not sure how long cakes last and Im not sure exactly when he'll be home and I wont have time to go pick it up later in the week. I peeked in the box and it got a little discombobulated 8( and the top layer kinda slid off. I had to prop it back on...atleast I got to taste it I guess.

Ive also been having stomach problems again but some of that might be my own fault. After I eat I feel like my stomach is pressing on my aorta or something important and it creates a pressure that goes up into my head. Then I cant tell if Im hungry or full.

anywho, going to die tomorrow at work. Im 3 nurses short and they just keep adding patients on even though Ive reported I have no staff. Its gonna be very suspect of a day.

Oh wow this wildman has put a bunch of Cex music from 1996-2000 on youtube. I’ve been wanting to hear this tape again for years.

I wrote about Track 2 on this one when somebody asked what the first mp3 I ever downloaded was. It was 1996 when I made this, most of the audio was stuff I found via telnet-- quite a few in RealMedia format, which sounded like it was coming through an old telephone-- but there’s also lots of voice-over from a CD-rom encyclopedia, and some stuff ripped from storybook cassettes I loved so much as a kid that I kept hold of them well into middle age.

Well, I was anticipating a Vet visit this upcoming weekend because I needed to follow up for my dogs weird UTI. She had something funky in her bladder and I'm brain-googling the worst but the vet insisted its just a really bad uti this last time. This last round of antibiotics were killer. She didn't like the taste of it and it gave it her really bad diarrhea. Because she was having diarrhea, I didn't want to take her to the groomers. She was starting to look scraggly and I'm having to wipe her butt everyday.

The weather was really nice the other day and she threw her ball at me to play, so we went outside and on throw number 3 she snapped her dew claw half off. Started bleeding everywhere. Dog thought she was going to be limp forever. It was really sad, so I took her back to the vet to get it removed and follow up with her UTI.

Her bladder and urine apparently looked really good. Got another round of antibiotics though because of the toe.

now she looks even more scraggly because I tried to clean her paw as best I could but she doesnt want me touching it. So she has an ungroomed body, bloody foot and diarrhea butt. /sigh.

The moment she has normal poops she's going in for a professional bath. I'm like profusely apologizing to my dog walker that I'm not a lazy pet owner (I mean I'm sorta lazy).

otherwise I have no plans for this weekend other than grocery shopping. Pray for my work day today, I feel it may be awful.

E-machines. E like el chapo. How Mexicans become computer users from the barrios. And blacks. And poverty stricken whites at the time the dotcom boom added a 2000-3000 charge every six or seven months, to people’s annual expenses for a beige box attached to a sort of TV and typewriter. 

An e-machine gets you into computing at costco. An e-machine doesn’t play the latest games, or even old games on the highest setting, being computationally “maxed” out by a NIC attached to high speed internet. 

An e-machine doesn’t come with any windows programs like “brand name” computers do. And there’s not a lot beyond standard windows 3.11 even with 98 or Millennium or 2000 (if they could even get that on there, NT kernel and all).

Running basic software is a chore for an e-machine, even a web browser, where e-machine users find they can make up for the rest of shortcomings, so to speak, of a costco computer. Around the internet, they find napster, they find IRC, the find ICQ, they continue to get AOL free trial CDs in the mail, so they seldom have to pay for “internet” internet service. They hear about usenet. And a certain channel of IRC tells them there’s a way to put videogames on computers instead of TV, which sounds promising, because they can’t afford even old ones because computers are so catastrophically expensive for subsistence-wage families.

Windows gives way to DOS “nesticle” and gravis gives way to logitech, attaching SNES layout controllers to computers (in a not suspect, completely suspicious way that no one seems to notice, because consoles never grew flight sticks or keyboards).  SNES9X begins to develop, arguably “forked” (tech jargon in quotes) from ZSNES as a non-assembler Super Nintendo, for people who could never seem to get beyond DOS for financial reasons or because of time constraints. Some realmedia discovering e-machine users, find that television and even movies work sometimes in their browser; most of it is pornographic or foreign language (to english and spanish speakers alike) cartoons called anime, but it looks promising because CDs and videotapes are beginning to give way to Fraunhofer’s codec (called mp3) that works on Winamp “whipping the llama’s ass”, by some of the same people from from SNES work being done for Windows (”platform” independence is becoming a big hit through java development) who well know that an old computer struggles with java (correcting the shit “garbage” collection never got corrected) and it’s ok because computers are developing so rapidly (unless you can only afford the one e-machine, the one time in the 90s).

And there’s good development around DIVX, the way the new VCRs discs work on the computer or will someday, even in DOS. And one more thing, Steve Jobs says “there’s a playstation in every mac” (which are not compatible with e-machines). Spawning the sudden development called “open source” software, and Redhat” the thing that comes in the For Dummies book at bookstores. Windows it isn’t, some people say, and the internet says maybe certain things don’t work, but e-machines are “standardized” hardware, and so what isn’t “supported now” will be soon. And apple software is like “linux” but called something else, and it’s ok because software is “interoperable” between the two.

And I should point out that I was running a PII-450 at the height of the dotcoms; well beyond any e-machine, but I was really interested in what the people without that were doing, because I was still playing games from the 80s on my Nintendo in the era of N64s.

A software called audiogalaxy supplants napster. Any number of “clients” for usenet like things that have no subscription cost, replace file trading there, but for e-machine users. After kazaa, today, there is bittorrent. Americans should remember that cartel Mexicans made music free. And movies free. And made linux a free alternative to apple and microsoft. And sponsored (Speedy Gonzales and the Gatos Bandidos is the “only way to ensure execution accurate emulation” they like to say, which, who is to know) console emulation to the point Sony corporation used it. And then Nintendo started at some point, calling it a “virtual console”. e-machine users exist today, a couple decades on, and now they need “smart devices” to go with what were beige boxes. And flat panel phones that are like smart devices and those are called “androids” and the internet can make them like e-machines, with all those same kinds of software.
