Sometimes (not often and not referring to the proxy versions bc that’s its own thing), I’ll see someone call Masky and/or Hoody a killer and I sit there like. But they aren’t though. They tried to kill one (1) guy and technically Tim did later but that was purely self defense.
Their actual crimes ARE attempted murder, breaking and entering, theft(?), assault, and stalking, with maybe a few more, but 80% of the murders were caused by Alex. You can lump Tim’s kill count with Masky if you want (which brings him dubiously up to 2 if you count Hoody falling) but Hoody has a kill count of exactly zero.
They ARE very intimidating figures and highly important to the story but I definitely wouldn’t label them as killers!

honestly really tired of the mandalorian jedi trope & especially mandalorian clones trope I wanna see clones adopting and being affected by Jedi culture I wanna see clones meditating sharing recipes and actually developing their culture through the Jedi I want to see Jedi culture being actually appreciated and explored

someday, we, as a fandom, are going to accept that Matthias is an extremely deep and thoughtful character who, after reevaluating his entire life values and beliefs, manages to come to profound conclusions that doesn’t obliterate his devotion to his god but instead strengthens his purpose in life and his beliefs about his religion and can see deep, personal difficulties in the people around him and isn't afraid to comment on it, (eg, calling jesper angry and frightened), but whatever fanon can just make his big blond and dumb its finnne

my one (1) big nitpick of the PJO tv show
In a lot of the marketing material, Percy is wearing this green flannel and it seems to be his Primary Outfit.

here's the thing about matthias: he isn't the honorable, reformed hero some of the fandom seems to see him as.
yes, he was raised by a tight-knit family of comrade soldiers and decides to betray them in the end. of course that took incredible strength. i don't deny that. but we also need to recognize that the drüskelle are not just some rogue cult. they are a core part of the fjerdan government, who is trying to wipe out the grisha because they are seen as dangerous. that's literally just genocide. however indoctrinated someone is, this is something that is evil from every angle, even if the character can't or won't see it.
and look, i love a good redemption arc, but matthias is such a passive actor in his. he falls in love with nina against his will. she changes his attitudes toward grisha because she's beautiful and kind so all grisha can't be bad, right? this a classic example of the trope of separating the "good ones" from the rest, where you cherry-pick specific individuals to point to as exceptions to a group's nature, which is still implied to be evil. you have to do a lot more than fall in love to truly unearth and address the roots of bigotry.
tbh, this is my biggest critique of the books as a whole. i loathe the "love conquers all" trope that pairs together a character from the oppressed group and one from the oppressors, letting the one show the other through the power of love that being bigoted is not nice. it puts all the responsibility on the former to prove their humanity, and gives all the credit to the latter's ability to be persuaded to recognize it. and then it inevitably leads to forgiveness, because the character has "earned" it by changing their views, once again making the victim seem like the villain if they don't absolve the oppressor of their past "mistakes". also, it's incredibly unrealistic for someone to fall in love with a person who actively hates them and considers them sub-human. in real life, people have to work on their bigotry before that happens, not use the relationship as a plot device for character development.
i think the idea of writing a character like matthias is neat. i think portraying someone's struggle to throw off the suffocating, hateful dogma they've been fed all their life is a story we need more of. i think personal growth of this variety should be celebrated, because otherwise people would never change. but i don't think the people, fictional or real, get to do this without facing profound consequences. it is not enough to feel sorry. it is not enough to apologize. it is definitely not enough to fall in love. and i think writing that lets people off the hook like this grossly oversimplifies power and oppression, and ends up being a feel-good way to romanticize people who cause a lot of harm.
a last note: my opinion is 100% influenced by my being bipoc. matthias is a classic aryan supremacist, even if being aryan isn't the thing he's being supremacist about. my gut reaction to that type of character is always going to be mistrust, both because people in real life have given me reason to be mistrustful and because characters like these are often written in a way that makes you sympathize with oppressors. i don't think matthias earns that trust, and i don't see why i owe him my affection as a reader.

i love minos (thinks about his fanon depiction) (throws up)
#okay god i try not too care too much abt mischaracterization especially if its something small but even bigger stuff its like. who cares#we've all been guilty of it at least a little bit before. you know.#but the fact fanon minos has practically ZERO things in common with minos in canon. like. :/#the fact they make him a sex obsessed guy when he shows zero hints towards being horny/sexual in game. and at most he just says that people#shouldnt be punished for loving one another. like.#everytime i see fanon content of minos and hes like haha gabriel do you want to have sex or hes constantly talking abt sex like. come on.#i never even see people talk abt stuff abt minos thats actually cool and not some fanon made up haha bisexual lighting and i love sex bit#like okay we're not gonna talk abt the fact that he had to see the destruction of everything he worked towards to help others with his own#eyes from his prison.#we're not gonna talk about how tragic he is or his story or anything abt his personality in canon?#no we're just gonna graft a make believe personality onto him where he constantly talks abt sex and nothing else? and wants to fuck gabriel#when one of the first things hes ever said upon being freed is that he wants to kill gabriel?#SORRY I KNOW IM BEING A LITTLE HATER AND IVE TRIED TO LESSEN UP ON IT ESP COMPARED TO MY LAST FANDOM. BUT.#GOD.#it wouldnt even be that bad if they didnt rough down minos's rough edges and hatred of gabriel and yet make sisyphus more#angry/violent towards him when he just had beef with heaven in general. like. interesting. that youre. depicting the person of#color as more angry/violent towards your blorbo when its arguable he doesnt even care abt gabe in specific.#really interesting.#truly.#okay im done being a hater#salt tag#to delete

as someone who has been here since last life i think it's awesome how many newer ethubs enjoyers there are these days but ill admit do sometimes wonder whether we watched the same series LOL. 90% of the stuff i see about last life ethubs these days seems to be pure fluff which i understand bc of the whole he loves me scene but like. did we all just forget about the part where they got 6 people killed for each other . about how many lives they took from their friends for each other. about how etho prioritizing his own survival cost him bdubs' life in the end and drove away their closest allies. they were selfish and evil and toxic and traitorous and mutually destructive and PETTY and sucked so unbelievably bad at communicating or being sincere and it's awesome. they literally showed affection by threatening to kill each other constantly. like they were terrible together and genuinely some of the worst guys in that entire series and maybe it's because there's something wrong with me but i think that's what made them so compelling

In my time honored tradition of “I like rise Leo but in a slightly to the left way of the general fanon interpretation” I propose: yes, Leo was being a bad leader and not communicating with his team during the movie because he didn’t want the responsibility of being leader HOWEVER he was not purposely self-sabotaging in an effort to get Raph to take leadership back. Instead, he was going solo and not working with anyone in order to avoid leadership altogether and not make calls and decisions that could potentially fail.

This is all because someone said that tim being wealthy DOES impact his character. Like the ppl in the screenshot are defending the idea that tim should be written as middle class and even claimed that plot points about/made possible or exacerbated by his wealth have nothing to do with his characterization bc they’re plot points and not character traits. They also previously said there’s little to no mention of his wealth whilst also trying to say his wealth doesn’t matter because it’s just “new money” (which I’d argue adds a LOT of context to the drakes vs the Waynes but that’s into analysis territory and I’m not getting into with someone who said plot points don’t impact the character 💀)
Anyways the main point of the post isn’t just to clown on them I just want y’all to take that final tweet into account; “They come and take only what they want, they don’t like to delve into the great character that is Tim.” On a post saying Tim being rich doesn’t matter and has nothing to do with his character. Tim Stans I’m not saying this is all of you, but this group of y’all is sooooo. Let’s be nice and say weird. That it makes y’all look bad. When they’re saying “they pick and choose to ignore his character” in order to defend picking and choosing to ignore his character…have a group meeting or smth yall. This is crazy.
#this lowk made me appreciate tumblr tim stans#like Ik y’all wouldn’t say shit like this God Bless#dc should rewrite tim as middle class 💀#just say you have 0 understanding of why certain details were added to Tim’s character post Jason Todd#and like even if you think it has nothing to do from an in comic standpoint#are u gonna sit there and tell me his being rich doesn’t impact his writers at all? his fans at all?#the way tim has been so accepted and subsequently flanderized (not even flanderized bc some of the traits y’all boil him down to are traits#he doesn’t have) has a lot to do with him being a rich white teen#and i specify teen because the way y’all baby him has to do with his class and race#y’all make it so when you say ‘he’s socially anxious bc he was so secluded at home 🥺🥺🥺’#and tbh let’s get down to it this is another way for y’all to make him ‘special’ or more likeable without thinking about it#if you think his wealth hasn’t impacted his character why do you want him to be middle class so bad? y’all just wanna relate more#it’s like when u hc him as a poc but refuse to acknowledge that him being white may impact his character#like u don’t know shit and I don’t trust u with subjects like race or class#back to the drawing board sweetheart#im not even tagging this anti tim Drake this is just who he is lmao#anti tim Drake Twitter fans#anti Thomas and Kyle#OH and the “why Is him being rich relevant’ you don’t even know how plot points impact character you wouldn’t know#OOOH and if you mention how it might’ve impacted Bruce’s view of him they’ll call it fanon#like no thats just point A to point B#to be fair they’d prolly call Tim’s mistreatment of Steph being misogyny fanon too#craaaazy#nothing is real it all exists in a void where social issues don’t exist#Ur so so smart

i just think christine is stronger than most people give her credit for and i think its time to acknowledge that…
(i ranted so hard in the tags i ran out of tags)
#it takes. incredible. INCREDIBLE. fortitude to go through what she’s been through#she isn’t weak e___e i’m so tired of people saying she’s weak and that she’s stupid#and that she should have stayed with erik#what do you guys WANT from her?#he tried to killed her fiance / he’s a wanted man with the police on his trail#he scared the LIVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF CHRISTINE#SHE WAS LEGITIMATELY WONDERING IF SHE WAS GOING TO DIE#idk enough of the bad fanon takes literally shut the fuck up#there are still christine haters in the year of our lord 2024#she’s literally doing the best she can with her shit circumstances#and! AND! IN ADDITION TO THAT!#SHE HAS TO OBSERVE SOCIETAL EXPECTATIONS AS A WOMAN#her choices are not wholly her own#she is given an INCREDIBLE amount of agency for the time period#but she is still held back. there’s nothing she can do.#her choices are often a forced hand#there are external factors at work#there’s so much she can’t do. there’s so much. she would literally be shunned and left to rot#i don’t think people understand she’s doing as best as she possibly can#i don’t think people understand how fundamentally /broken/ she is as well#people put her on a pedestal to fix erik. that’s not her fucking job#i mean- she WANTS TO HELP HIM - she LOVES HIM#but it isnt her fucking job#and if you read the original source material you’d know#that they’re both tremendously fucked up people and they both helped EACH OTHER#IT WAS NOT#ONE PERSON DOING ALL THE WORK#OOOOOO I’M SO#WHY IS IT THE WOMAN’S JOB#AND BETTER YET WHY ARE WE IGNORING THIS EQUAL PUSH AND PULL
