Charlastor: ship or lie

Charlastor, a ship that has been bothering me lately, apparently we have confirmed that Charlastor will not happen (unfortunately, I haven't seen this confirmation from the author, only other people writing about it, as if someone had a screenshot of this confirmation directly saying "No, Charlastor won't happen", it would be nice to reblog with this screenshot :) )

This will be a long post, I recommend arming yourself with a lot of popcorn :)

Many people are against Charlastor, their arguments are:

Alastor is aroace: although I saw a lot of people who wrote that they are aroace and ace, and yet they ship Charlastor, because being both ace and aroace doesn't mean that you cannot be in a relationship, you can be, but this relationship will look a bit otherwise, all people who bring up this argument are shooting themselves in the foot and unfortunately it shows how many people have no idea what it means to be an ace or aroace and without any actual knowledge about it, explain to others what it means, it shows how people who don't like something are able to run blindly, as long as they stick to their opinion, instead of looking around and first looking for information and making sure that they are right, and it's not that difficult to get information, after all we live in the 21st century and we have the Internet...

,,Asexuality is understood as a state in which a person does not feel sexual attraction or desire for people of the same sex or the opposite sex, or for any other objects. An asexual individual usually does not engage in sexual behavior and does not feel the need for sexual contact. It is a permanent lack of sexual drive.

And we divide asexuality based on "romantic attraction":

aromantic is characterized by a lack of feeling romantic attraction.

biromantic – feel romantically attracted to more than one gender.

heteroromantic – feel romantic attraction to the opposite sex, homoromantic people feel romantic attraction towards people of the same sex.

panromantic – they experience romantic attraction to people regardless of gender.

So, most asexual people are still interested in forming romantic relationships, and what about aromantic asexuals... Aromanticism is a type of romantic orientation whose name itself indicates a lack of interest in creating romantic relationships. Aromantic people feel no (or only a little) romantic attraction to other people. Aromanticism is usually talked about in the context of asexual orientation, but in fact, romantic orientation applies to people of all sexual identities. It is wrongly assumed that aromantic people do not have sex or that they are unable to form relationships with others. Many issues regarding aromanticism require explanation and understanding, as well as the basics of distinguishing different types of attraction: sexual, romantic, aesthetic and sensual. Aromantic orientation does not assume a dissocial attitude or social isolation - aromantic people can have close people, form relationships and lead successful social and sexual lives."

So Alastor doesn't feel sexual attraction or romantic attraction, but it still doesn't mean he can't have a relationship with someone, he can, it just will look different, we could say that for most people who feel attraction and romantic, such a relationship, that the aroace person enters into can be described as platonic for us, but it will still be a relationship and attention... such people can still have sex: ,,There are two things to distinguish: sexual attraction and sexual behavior. The former is an impulse that pushes towards a certain person or situation. In the case of asexual people, it does not occur at all or very, very rarely. However, our bodies still respond to certain stimuli, and we can become horny and orgasm. So yes, there are asexuals who have sex - if only because they want to please their partners or, even if they don't feel the need, they know it will give them pleasure."

Alastor will never fall in love and will never feel sexual attraction, but he can still have sex and can enter into a deeper relationship with someone.

Another argument is Charlie has a girlfriend: yes, he does, but it doesn't mean that this relationship will last forever, is there any confirmation from the author that it will never change(?), not saying that they are canon, because they are canon at the moment, but that they are canon and will always be canon, does anyone have such confirmation...(?), if so, please reblog it with a screenshot :)

Another is that Alastor sees Charlie as his daughter: this has already been confirmed by the author, that Alastor only said this to upset Lucifer and in fact, there is no father-daughter relationship between Alastor and Charlie. Link to tiktok where the author talks about it:

And the last argument, the rarest one, but still, that Charlie is too young or too naive for Alastor (twice in the comments, once on YT, another time on Tiktok, I even saw someone writing that this ship is pedophilia.....): age first:

Alastor is 40 biological years old (because he died at that age), and chronologically he is about 130 years old, link to info:

Charlie is biologically around 20, and chronologically over 2,000, link:

So if we take biological age, of course Alastor will be about 20 years older than Charlie, if we take chronological age, then Charlie will be so much older than Alastor that it's incomparable :D

But all this happens in hell, in an animated black comedy, so in my opinion such a thing doesn't matter much, because both of them don't age very much anyway, but coming to Charlie's naivety, Charlie is a lot, a lot, a lot... older than Alastor, so technically she should be more experienced and learned about life (especially in hell), so why isn't she... because in my opinion, Lilith and Lucifer kept her in a protective bubble of safety instead of her being convinced to in her own skin, what is living in hell..., that's why Charlie is so naive, sweet, etc., but nevertheless she still has the devil in herself..., we see it in the pilot, when she gets angry on TV, we see it in the series , when he gets mad at Susan in the cannibal town, we see it during the fight with Adam, Charlie is still part demon and he also has his dark part, which I think will become more and more visible in the series, not in the context of her becoming evil, but that she will become more experienced, self-confident and will be a born leader of hell, but for this she still needs to learn a little and remember that she is much more powerful than Alastor will ever be, she just needs to learn to use her powers ;)

Also in the future, in my opinion, Charlie will be much more powerful, with more power, experience, etc., than Alastor, Alastor will only be one of the most important catalysts for her, "she has so much potential that I could guide":

the question is whether Alastor will be in able to guide (control) her when she discovers her potential..., in my opinion: NO, and just as Alastor's deal with Charlie will bite Charlie, this attempt to use Charlie and direct her potential will bite him..., which in my opinion they will learn a lot from each other :)

So, the whole argument that Charlie will be manipulated by Alastor, that he would be the "stronger one in the relationship", in my opinion, will no longer make sense in the future, because this power dynamic will change... and besides, it would be strange if the princess hell didn't spread her wings at all throughout the entire series and remained just as naive, sweet, unaware and etc..., the characters must evolve.

And now that all the arguments against have been countered, it's time to move on to forshadowings.

Many people write that all these forshadowings are just fanservice, and sure, maybe... but it's really hard for me to believe that so many details like this would be done just for fanservice... it would be terribly rude and, in my opinion, bad writing, because sure, one forshadowing, two forshadowings, even three forshadowings don't do anything, but when you start getting four, five, SIX of them... it gets weird... and it's hard to say that it doesn't mean anything..., sorry, but for me, if there is so much of this, then either it will happen, or the creators are pigs doing something like this (let's be honest) for money..., so I believe that there must be something more here, but first before I will write about forshadowings, I will also refer to the canonical relationship, i.e. Chaggie, why I am against this relationship... because this relationship is, firstly, terribly boring in my opinion, in the context that I feel absolutely no chemistry between Vaggie and Charlie, nothing, zero, total null..., and Vaggie herself is an empty character for me, apart from her past, which did not affect her relationship with Charlie in any way, apart from a momentary (literally a tiny momentary) quarrel and had no real far-reaching consequences and apart from her getting a weapon to fight, she has no purpose in the show other than Charlie..., her entire being, her existence is based on Charlie, she takes care of the hotel for Charlie, she takes care of the residents for Charlie, she gets the weapons for Charlie, she does everything for Charlie, and don't get me wrong, on the one hand, it's great to have a girl who cares about you and cares so much, but, well..., apart from Charlie, she has no other reason for existence, she has no life, no goals, no desires, which makes her a characterless character, and I don't mean her personality per se, but her being as a character, who she is to the Hazbin Hotel arc apart from being Charlie's girlfriend... NOBODY and that terribly offends me if she got some actual development, or her past was better handled not in a "oh you were an angel, you didn't tell me, I'm mad at you" - five minutes later after talking to Rosie and Carmilla - "I forgive you, let's go back to the old way, as if your past didn't exist", why..., WHY..., why was it done this way....

Sometimes, even despite all of Vaggie's care and her involvement in Charlie, I think that this relationship is toxic, precisely because Charlie saved Vaggie, took her, and from that moment, it can be safely said that Vaggie became independent from Charlie, If it was a man-woman pair and the man saved the woman and then she was completely focused on him, just like Vaggie on Charlie, most people would probably call such a relationship toxic immediately without blinking an eye, because the woman is dependent on her savior... and why doesn't anyone think this way about Vaggie... after all, it's the same situation... so until they give me the development of Vaggie's character, some of her thread, HER and ONLY HER, I see this connection first of all no chemicals, and secondly, toxic for Vaggie... even though Vaggie became addicted to Charlie, in a sense, of her own free will (I don't see Charlie forcing her to do anything, that's not what I mean :D ). Besides, in the original and in Zoophobia, Vaggie was supposed to be Angel Dust's girlfriend:

and I regret that they don't have more closer interactions with each other in season one, because I'm curious what their dynamics would be, because maybe Angel Dust and Vaggie would have better chemistry... and I know that a lot of people ship Angel Dust with Husk, me too :) , but I would still like to see if the Vaggie + Angel Dust relationship would be better, especially since Vaggie and Angel Dust are characters that quickly reach for weapons, as Vaggie's caring nature could, in my opinion, help Angel Dust a lot, and Angel Dust with his more libertarian character (apart from his bond with Valentine) could cause Vaggie's development as a character with his own dreams, desires, etc., but this is just my thought :)

So finally moving on to forshadowings, even external ones, not only internal serial ones (I may edit this post, if I find more, new information will always be added to the bottom of the post):

So both Chaggie and Charlastor have two items in the shop (at least for now), a backpack and pants, but Chaggie has two normal or witch versions of the backpack and pants.

But the thing is that all the previous pairs, Millie-Moxxie, Stolas-Blitz, Fizz-Ozzie are canonical in the Helluva Boss series, from Hazbin Hotel we have one canonical pair Chaggie and one non Charlastor and of course you can write "it's fanservice", so where are the Alastor-Lucifer things (this ship is extremely popular), where is Husk-Dust, where are the other Helluva Boss ships... (list of Helluva Boss ships: https://shipping.fandom.com/wiki/Helluva_Boss), there are none, there are only those that are actually canon, apart from Charlastor.

In 2018, the author posted a post on Twitter (for me it will always be Twitter, sorry, I'm too old for a new name, I don't like it :D): https://twitter.com/vivziepop/status/956857844740931584?s=61 , where Vaggie was reading from a computer to describe ideal man (it's already time when Charlie and Vaggie are a couple as we see) and Charlie replies that he is dark and mysterious (I guess Alastor is dark and mysterious, right?), that he can sing (what is it that Alastor likes more than singing..., I guess only being the most important person in the room :D) and that he can play the organ and here is a link to the author's stream:

where at 19:10 she starts talking about Alastor and says that he can play the Furby organ :D

So this is a bit of an odd post for someone who wouldn't have planned for Alastor and Charlie to be together, sure it was in 2018, but still....

Besides, I will also say this... why make Charlie bisexual if she will only be in a relationship with Vaggie..., we know she is bisexual because we know she once had a boyfriend, Seviathan, but why add that to the story... and sure there are many stories of couples in which one is bi and the other is gay, but... in all the series and books on this topic that I have watched and read, it has always been connected with the thread that a bi person discovers his/her a new sexuality that she/he had no idea about before, and of course, you can also leave it like this: Charlie is bi, she used to have a boyfriend, now she has a girlfriend, and that's the end of it, but still... it just seems weird to me because it doesn't I've also come across the idea of making someone bi without using it... I don't want to offend any bi person, it's just unusual for me and I would like to at least mention the fact that in all such stories (which I watched or read) bisexuality was somehow used in the story, maybe someone watched or read something where a bi person was just bi and was in a relationship or was single, without using his/her bisexuality as part of the story..., I would love to read or watch such thread :)

Moving on to the series, the parallel between Lucifer-Lilith and Charlie-Alastor, Lucifer is a fallen angel and Lilith is a human who became a demon (so we can rather assume that she went to hell as a sinner), so Charlie is half angel (after her father), half a demon (after her mother), but her appearance is entirely after her angelic father :) , Alastor, on the other hand, is a sinner who became a demon, i.e. Lucifer = angel, Charlie = angel (she looks closer to an angel, despite that she has hellish powers), Lilith=sinner/demonic, Alastor=sinner/demon, in addition we have the following screenshots in the series:

This parallel ;) Lucifer as the softer one, Charlie as the softer one, Lilith as the scary one, Alastor as the scary one :)

Then, of course, the presumption of a relationship in the series, primarily Rosie, who delivers her memorable line, and Charlie, who rolls her eyes at this line (I still don't quite know how to interpret her eye roll, as she is annoyed that Rosie even did she think they could be together or out of annoyance that Rosie thinks Charlie is too young for Alastor, because it could go both ways, both Charlastor and anti-Charlastor :D ):

And of course Lucifer, who at first thinks that Alastor is Charlie's boyfriend and is clearly terrified and furious at this idea, just look at how Charlie looks at Alastor at that moment, and Alastor at Charlie, it's a short moment when they look at each other as if they didn't see Lucifer and the rest (of course you can see that Alastor is doing this to piss off Lucifer) and then Lucifer quickly (to break their stare) tells Charlie to introduce the others and separates Alastor and Charlie with his hands, and when Charlie introduces Vaggie to Lucifer, as his girlfriend, he is clearly relieved and happier than ever:

We also have foreshadowing with the bed, first we have a scene where Vaggie lies alone in bed and calls Charlie, who has already woken up a long time ago and is downstairs, and then in episode 7 we have a scene when Alastor comes to Charlie and what a coincidence that we have the moment when they both lie on a heart-shaped pillow...:

Of course, Alastor doesn't like to be touched, and yet Charlie touching and by Charlie is no problem for him:

prompted by a reply on another post, abt the aromantic manifesto. the more i think about it, the more it seems like the authors' definition of "the queer community" and "the queer rights movement" is not in line with the actually queer community and queer rights movement. it seems like they are using "queer" as a stand-in for "all lgb cis people" which is just definitionally not what the queer community is. the queer liberation movement goes back decades and has always been championed by trans people, particularly trans people of color. so for the authors to assert things like "the queer rights movement prioritizes gay marriage over everything else" seems to betray a lack of experience and knowledge about the actual queer community and the actual queer rights movement. also the only time trans people were really mentioned was to paint cis (allo) lgb people as overwhelmingly transphobic (which is a whole other can of worms.)

and like. on one hand i think there is an issue with marriage equality for cis gay people being considered Thee Most Important Thing by mainstream lgbt advocacy groups (though i really need younger people to think about why people older than us considered it to be so important - hint: it has to do with surviving the aids crisis). but also i feel like responding "yes, but" legitimizes their assertion that their uninformed and incorrect definition of the "queer community" and the "queer rights movement." and then we just get stuck in this feedback loop of "well y'all only care about gay marriage" "who is y'all" "you know. queers" "lgbt advocacy groups?" "yeah. queers." "actually this is what the queer liberation movement is about." "yeah but these groups only advocate for marriage equality." "right but those are lgbt advocacy groups, not queer liberation groups." "yeah. queers."

and then even outside of that is the whole point of why i started this ramble in the first place, which is: why does this manifesto structure queerness only around lgb identities? why does it not include transness? does this framework assert that transness is not inherently queer? i think it does, which is another point against them actually understanding what the queer community and queer liberation movement is. so by asserting that the "queer community" is overwhelmingly transphobic, only cares about marriage equality, and does not inherently include transness, you are essentially giving ownership of queerness to cis people, which only seeks to reinforce the hierarchies in queer spaces the manifesto claims to condemn.

so yeah like tldr i think this manifesto sucked for all the reasons i already talked abt in the other post, but also because it tries to assert its fundamental misunderstanding of what and who the queer community is as True Fact, and then uses that misconception to be homophobic. it's just very weird and i think the people who wrote it need to talk to more trans ppl.

“That’s entirely up to you, my dear!” Alastor folded his hands behind his back, feeling quite pleased with himself. “I’m perfectly content knowing I’ve done my part to help the hotel’s one and only resident out of his contractually obligated path of sin for the night so that he can fail redemption of his own free will!”

Alastor thought Angel could use a day off, so he got him one! Of course, what Angel does with his time off is his to choose, but Alastor did offer him a date.

Originally this was day 4 – and still is on AO3 – but the OneWayStatic date prompt is turning out to be darker than previously expected, and I’d rather sandwich it between two fluff and humor fics than one fluff fic and one smut fic, so this one’s getting moved.

Also, I was hoping to finish the OneWayBroadcast today, but I don’t think that’s in the cards.

Alastor surveyed the lobby of the newly rebuilt Hazbin Hotel from the shadows. Husker was asleep at the bar – which, ordinarily, Alastor would attribute to laziness or alcoholism, but he supposed the reconstruction had taken a toll on them all – while Angel Dust was milling about, clearly restless.

Angel hadn’t bothered to wake Husk – which, in itself, was a sign of the spider’s distress – and was pacing, fidgeting, and constantly checking his hellphone device.

Well, this just won’t do! Alastor thought.

Alastor zipped through the shadows, rematerializing by Angel’s side. “Good evening!”

Angel cursed under his breath and almost dropped his hellphone. “I don’t think I’m ever gonna get used to you doin’ that, ya know,” he said.

“Hardly anyone does!” Alastor said, cheerfully. He was particularly proud of his ability to strike fear into the hearts of men using nothing but low-level magic, timing, and his signature smile. “I even get Rosie from time to time!”

“You sound real proud of yourself, smiles,” Angel said, halfheartedly.

Alastor grinned. “And you sound absolutely miserable!”

Angel sighed. “That obvious, huh?”

“Afraid so, my dear.” Alastor leaned on his microphone – ah, it was good to have that back! “What’s got you so out of sorts?”

“What else?” Angel asked, rhetorically. “Work. My boss is the kinda freak that makes freaks like you look like upstanding citizens.”

“My fuckin’ skin itches,” Angel said, scratching as if saying the words out loud had pushed the itch to the forefront of his attention. “And it ain’t even withdrawals this time. I’m just… I’m not ok.”

“Ah.” Alastor wasn’t sure he’d ever get used to Angel’s honesty.

When Alastor first arrived at the hotel, he’d met an Angel Dust that buried his emotions under the mask of a performer putting on a show for anyone and everyone in sight, including himself. It was something the two of them had in common! But, as time went on, and they grew more comfortable in each others’ presence, they both began to lift their masks – Angel considerably more so than Alastor.

Angel’s newfound vulnerability was something that Alastor both envied and feared, although he would never say either out loud.

“Perhaps you should take the rest of the day off!” Alastor suggested.

Angel forced out a laugh. “No can do, smiles,” he said. “As much as I’d love a fuckin’ day off, Val’s got me booked for the night. Some bigshot who wants to” – Angel used his upper set of hands to create air quotes – “‘remain anonymous,’ but has no problem pickin’ me up at the hotel in front of Lucifer and everyone!”

“Haven’t talked to him personally, but he sounds like a pompous piece of shit,” Angel complained.

Alastor tilted his head at a forty-five degree angle, just barely covering his amusement. “Is that so?”

“Mhmm.” Angel pulled out his phone. “I’ve got receipts.”

Angel held the device up to Alastor’s face. Between the angle of the screen and the brightness, Alastor couldn’t really see what was on the damned thing, but he didn’t need to.

“Oh right,” Angel said, putting his phone away. “I forgot you’ve got the whole ‘deer in the headlights’ light sensitivity shit.”

That wasn’t exactly how Alastor would describe it – but he had developed some difficulty seeing under bright lighting since taking on this cursed, cervine form.

“Just take my word for it,” Angel insisted. “Guy talks like he thinks he’s better than everyone.”

“He’s supposed to show up here around seven – which is way too fuckin’ early by the way,” Angel said. “Johns never know what to do with me when they book me out for too long, and I wind up sittin’ around, twiddlin’ my dick because they can’t get it up again, but they can’t get a refund, neither.”

Alastor checked the time. 6:57 pm.

“I know next to nothin’ about him. No name, no pics,” Angel listed, counting them off on his fingers. “Just that he’ll be wearin’ red. I’m s’posed to recognize him from that and this dumb passcode he came up with…”

Alastor queued up an instrumental and sang a slightly modified version of the matching lyrics.

“Got a date with an Angel

Got to meet him at seven

Got a date with an Angel

And I'm on my way to Heaven”

Angel stared at him, slack-jawed and wide-eyed.

“Tsk tsk,” Alastor tutted. “I know you’re a spider, but surely there are better ways to catch flies!”

Angel laughed – a real laugh this time. The honest, uncontrolled kind that left one’s sides aching and compelled everyone else in the room to laugh along.

“Alastor,” Angel said, once he caught his breath. “Ya gotta stop buyin’ my time.”

Alastor was grinning from ear to ear. “Well, if your poor excuse for an Overlord would give you a ‘fucking day off’ as you put it, I wouldn’t have to!”

It had admittedly become a bit of a habit. Not a bad habit, but a habit all the same.

Angel would start to become restless or overworked, causing Alastor to notice his distress and find some way or another to discreetly buy him some time off. Sometimes they spent the allotted time together, though more often than not, Alastor left Angel to do whatever he pleased with his newly found free time.

“How’d you even do it this time?” Angel asked. “Val had the whole conversation over Vitter and said the guy paid with Voxmo. I’ve never seen you on a hellphone or a computer or anything with internet access for that matter.”

“Oh, that’s where you’re wrong, my effeminate friend!” Alastor wrapped an arm around Angel and reeled him in closer. “I’ve had access to the ‘internet’ for as long as the Vees have been mooching off of my domain, rebranding radio waves as this so-called ‘wi-fi!’”

“Holy shit, I never thought of it like that,” Angel whispered.

“Wait a second…” The spider aimed an incredulous look at Alastor. “Are you tellin’ me you’ve been playin’ dumb about modern tech and culture this whole time?”

“Well, I guess the cat’s out of the bag!” Alastor played the sound of a cat yowling – which caused Husk to flick his ear and stir in his sleep.

Angel Dust wiggled out of Alastor’s grip. “Can’t believe the Radio Demon has a secret Vitter account,” he said, shaking his head.

“Actually, I created that account specifically for this occasion,” Alastor corrected. “Just because I have internet access doesn’t mean I’m ‘chronically online,’ as the youth say.”

Angel smirked, as if a truly wicked idea had entered his mind. “Hey, Al,” he said with faux innocence. “Look up ‘Radio Demon rule 34.’”

“Angel Dust,” Alastor replied, voice dripping with saccharine sweetness. “In the kindest way possible, go touch grass.”

Angel laughed again. “Ok, so you know enough not to search rule 34 and to tell me to get a life/go fuck myself.”

“Precisely!”

“Alright, internet literacy test passed,” Angel said. “Now what?” he asked. “You gonna actually take me out on a date?”

“Wow, thanks, asshole.” Angel rolled his eyes and flipped Alastor off with three different hands. “Finally startin’ to see the nun parallels now, Sister Alastor. The holier-than-thou attitude and constant guilt take me right back to my days as a Catholic schoolboy.”

“You should keep a ruler on ya,” Angel added. “Just in case I start writin’ with my left hands.”

Without thinking, Alastor rubbed his thumb over the knuckles of his own left hand – which was thankfully still behind his back, and therefore hidden from view.

“Hm.” Alastor pretended to consider Angel’s sardonic suggestion. “No, I think you might enjoy corporal punishment a bit too much for it to have anything but the opposite effect.”

Angel shrugged. “You’re not wrong,” he said. “But, now that I know you’re in it to watch me struggle or whatever-”

“Technically,” Alastor interjected. “That was my reason for involving myself with this hotel and the nonsensical notion of ‘redemption’ to begin with.”

“Yeah, yeah, reality is the best entertainment and you get your kicks outta watchin’ us lesser demons struggle.” Angel Dust waved his upper hands dismissively and folded his lower arms against his chest. “But I’m a petty bitch.”

“And you tipped your hand.” Angel took one index finger and pointed it directly at Alastor’s chest – sufficiently accusatory, without physically touching him. “So I’ve decided I’m your problem for tonight.”

“Fair enough,” Alastor said. “I suppose I’ll make good on my offer for a date.”

“It don’t gotta be nothin’ fancy,” Angel said with a shrug. “We can just hang out at the hotel and order MacMammon’s or somethin’.”

A record scratch played in response to the word, ‘MacMammon’s.’

Alastor cleared his throat. “Regardless of the circumstances, I will not be eating or serving any ‘fast-food.’”

Alastor said the term, ‘fast-food,’ like it was a curse. Because as far as he was concerned it was one.

Angel snorted. “The cannibal is a foodie,” he said. “Figures.”

“I have standards!” Alastor said. “And if I expect my date to raise his above Lucifer’s kneecaps, if only for tonight.”

Alastor queued up some lively background music. “The night is young!” he said, taking Angel by the hand. “Come with me and I’ll cook you some real food!”

“Hold it, smiles.” Angel dug his heels into the carpet, refusing to move an inch. Alastor could have pulled him along using Eldritch-enhanced strength, but…

“Time out,” Angel said, sounding a bit hesitant. “I just wanna clarify some shit before this goes any further.”

Alastor waited patiently as Angel collected his thoughts.

“This is still, uh… platonic, right?” Angel asked. “Just two friends sharin’ a meal? No happy endings or nothin’?”

“Completely platonic,” Alastor confirmed. “No strings attached. I may have purchased your time for the evening, but adding a sexual element to our relationship is decidedly not something I’m interested in.”

Angel breathed a sigh of relief. “Oh, thank God.”

“What’s He got to do with it?” Alastor asked, prompting another wave of giggles from Angel Dust.

“Thank you, Alastor,” Angel said, instead.

“Well, now you’re just feeding my god complex!” Alastor said, accompanied by his own laugh track. “And Heaven knows Gluttony is my sin!”

“Pride, too,” Angel noted.

“Yes, Pride, too,” Alastor agreed.

The two friends walked arm and arm out of the lobby, headed towards Alastor’s room for a night of purely platonic, non-contractually obligated sins.

OK OK OK SO MY BRAIN HAS BEEN GOING INSANE ABOUT AMICUS CURIAE SO I NEED TO RAMBLE ABOUT IT!!!!

Spoilers for the fic under the cut (duh), link to read it is here, goooo do that!!!

OK SO. The main conflict am i right

Right now we are in a fluff sweet spot where most of the teams are on friendly terms and the main 6 aren't in conflict. However considering what the author has posted to their TD blog recently, it's definitly not staying that way.

Hell even in the current chapters it's probably not staying that way, considering Courtney's 100% caught on that there's something going on between Noah and Alejandro, and in return Alejandro's detected Courtney's crush for Emma.

So yeah! Im predicting that's gonna be the cause of the big rift that happends between the best friends; both of their feelings are going to get in the way of the win eventually in a big way. Maybe Courtney will get distracted by Emma or Alejandro's going to try to keep the Pros in the game in a way that handicaps the Best Friends for the challenge, and it'll blow up in their face, and past events are gonna be brought up and they're gonna get HURT.

I think Courtney's main reasons for being annoyed at Alejandro and Noah's friendship (outside of Courtney would like to win thanks) is her wanting Alejandro to not get hurt; Noah's already betrayed him (from his perspective), she wouldn't want him getting stabbed in the back again. I dout he'd do that, but Courtney doesn't know that!

Also whenever she'll figure out it's romantic, she's certaintly going to discourage Alejandro to go for it during the show. Dating on Reality TV is not a good idea, they both have negative experiences with it, Courtney especially. Neither would want to go through that again, so conflict arising from it makes sense.

Also also, Courtney might be afraid of losing Alejandro,,, she's lost friends due to relationship drama in the past, hell she's still struggling with the after-effects of her trust being broken so many times. So seeing Alejandro be genuine with someone else? Yeah she's not gonna react well. Im basing this off the line "Alejandro's supposed to only be genuine with her" Because it says ALOT. To me.

This is 100% aromantic projection hour but Societytm constantly pushes romantic relationships as more important than platonic ones, an impression reinforced in media and especially tabloids - Courtney and Alejandro have already been mistaken for a couple in this fic by one of the main characters due to their closeness - so i wouldn't be shocked if either had internalised this and fears losing their one actual friend because they're crushing on someone else.

I don't think Alejandro's expressed much derision for Courtney's crush on Emma yet? So im not sure the conflict on his end would come from that. I think his main issue is trying to push himself too much out of a sense of obligation to be performing at his best all the time (especially now at the final 8 teams and non elimination rounds being pretty random so far) + his guilt over previous performances in challenges. It's 100% going to bite him or Courtney (because i dout she doesn't have similar over working tendencies) in the ass in a MAJOR way in an upcoming challenge. That and their respective competitiveness is probably gonna hurt them in a major way.

FINAL NOTE: I have no fucking clue how this can happen if the final POV's not Courtney but it would be so fucking cool if the closing lines of Amicus Curiae were a parallel to the "This is a terrible idea" that Courtney kept repeating in chapter 1, you know bring it full circle and stuff.

Quick facts about me that no one asked for:

Figured since I’ve posted more here and answered some asks, I would share some facts about me on my blog both BTS/Jikook related and non related.

1.) I became ARMY during quarantine era. A friend got me into them. After I watched their MMA 2019 performance I was blown away. She was a Yoongi bias so that is whose content I initially watched and gravitated towards. When I ventured out on my own and watched more performance stages and Run BTS I knew immediately that I was drawn to Jimin. Everything from his stage presence, gorgeous vocals and dance lines, funny and sassy personality, but also super empathetic and caring. He was it for me and still is. But I do love all seven of them. I could probably rank them in order of my “favorites” but Jimin would be number 1 without a doubt.

***super fun fact is that I actually first was exposed to BTS in 2017 :( that’s right, I could have stanned back then. I frequently kind of kidding but not really refer to this as my biggest regret. An undergrad in my research group was obsessed with them. She showed me a clip of them dancing and probably because I didn’t like her that much (she was friends with someone toxic) I chalked it up as so they sing and dance? Who cares. I ended up reconnecting with her later when I stanned and found out that she was a low-key TKK shipper and loved reading their fanfics. By that point, I was already sus of Jikook so we clashed and I don’t talk to her. 🤣

2.) That brings me to point number two. The most important: Jikook. I wish I could remember the first time I was like yep this is a thing but I don’t. I do remember the first Jikook moment that I was exposed to was their Black Swan pas de deux. I remember finding their chemistry palpable and bold of them to perform a romantic dance together but that was it. The more I watched Run BTS and being a Jimin bias I couldn’t help but notice JK too and their closeness. What was the nail in the coffin so to speak? The cliches. GCF Tokyo and Rosebowl did it for me and I’ve been endeared by them ever since.

3.) I’m a sort of Jikook fanfic writer on A03 who I guess is on a hiatus and has been for awhile now. I love fanfiction and have been reading it and writing it a little since I was like 12. I was never a RPF girlie until BTS but I view them as characters in a story because that is what they are when I’m reading or writing fics. Not the actual people.

4.) I’m asexual and probably aromatic to some extent too. Asexuality is so misunderstood, I could go on about it for days, but I’m not the authority on it by any means. I like the idea of sex in the abstract. Fanfics, great. M/M where I don’t feel inserted in the act, even better. I’m not a prude, I just don’t experience sexual attraction. The idea of looking at someone even the tannies and wanting to fuck them makes me uncomfortable and it’s something I can’t relate to and have never felt. I’ve had sex of course, but it’s never lived up to the hype for me. I can definitely live without it. As far as being aromantic that I’m not sure. I love the idea of romance or I wouldn’t be so smitten with Jikook and other cute couples. I don’t actively seek romance in my life. I don’t date or want to date. I haven’t had a crush on someone in like 10 years. I’m not opposed to it. Their gender wouldn’t matter to me but it’s not something I feel like I need in my life. If you are anywhere on the ace spectrum or are LGBTQIA+, hi you are more than welcome here.

5.) I’m educated! I have a PhD in chemistry. I am on the Professor track and I teach organic chemistry. I spent 7 years in grad school combined for my masters and PhD.

So yeah! This way you know a little about me when you send in asks. I am terrible at formatting and use my phone only for Tumblr, so my blog probably won’t ever be pretty. I’m just here for connections and content that is more in depth than Twitter. Yes, I’m still calling it twitter. Sorry not sorry Elon.

i can't stand social media platforms 'nd teenagers constantly harassing people, cuz it just happened 2 mi! riri's g'na rant 4 a seccie 'kay! (even tho no1's g'na c)

i don't like the hazbin hotel fandom, specifically the alastor section. specifically, the alastor purifiers. i got much i can say, but 'm only gunna speak on the aroace thing because there's a reoccurring and quite annoying phenomenon happening in comment sections. a.k.a the "erm...he's ace!" 🤓☝🏾 comments.

it's fiction. fan actions rarely lead to actual canon events, and in this case, it will never happen because viv and amir have confirmed that he's aroace. i promise you, tumblr and tiktok, your fave serial killer will not choke and die because someone said found him hot. a "alastor just the tip!" comment is not going to affect him, because he's fictional. and as long as there are attractive features/attributes to something, people are going to be attracted to it, people are going to make fan content of it. especially if it's fictional.

now, that's not to say "it's ok to hypersexualize characters!" there's obviously a problem when it comes to sexualization, but there's nothing you can do about it by saying "he's ace" on one post out of the millions on the internet.

alastor has canon fangirls. he will be ok.

now, i completely understand fellow aroace people being a bit uncomfortable and stuff towards it with representation and all. and trust me, someone like me has perfect experience with that as a black person. it's a magical thing to see someone like you on TV screens, and alastor has done something for me as a canon aroace character.

however, there are a good selection of canon asexual and aromantic characters that aren't the same brand of character he is. because i remind you this aroace representation we have is a former serial killer. he's a demon who's murdered people, he's an active cannibalist, and enslaves peoples souls. i love rep as much as the next person, but he's a demon. there are regular aroace rep like for example, saiki k. lmaoo.

i say all of that to say, constantly commenting "isn't he ace?" "he's canonicly ace." is not helping anyone, you're only annoying people. especially the aroace authors that write for characters like alastor.

please stop. he's not an uwu deer guy, he's a grown man who finds an orphans unfortunate situation funny. leave writers and fangirls alone.

@certainunknownlove making my own post for this, because this is not only a response to your question about good omens fandom and its casual aphobia, but I want to try once more to get my thoughts down.

To simply put - when you see aphobia in a fandom setting, what do you expect to see? Most allo people think of the classics, "asexual and aromantic are not real!" or "you're being homophobic!"

But the problem is these are all too cut and dry (not to say aphobes like this still pop up every now and then). Social media is now far more aware of aphobia, and are all proudly saying how they love and respect aromantics and asexuals, they're apart of the lgbtq community, hoorah!

This leads to a situation like the good omens fandom: two mostly male-presenting beings are not human, and their relationship in the book and in s1 is in a weird murky ground of queerplatonic. Humans point out how romantic they look, the author repeatedly states how their relationship isn't in human terms yet doesn't shoot down anyone's interpretations and tries to do little innuendos like an ox-rib eating scene. And by the time s2 comes around, they showcase their relationship in a more traditionally human sense, ala a kiss.

Talking about whether making them asexual or aromantic is aphobic itself is a whole other topic that would be far longer to do, but the fact of the matter is some people see them as asexual, some people see them as queerplatonic, some people see them as completely alloallo.

For aspec people, the kind of comments you would usually find, off the top of my head, would be things like:

"They have to kiss again in s3"

"Wouldn't it be sooo poetic if they were made for each other, soulmates, and if other angels and demons were too?"

"Wouldn't it be great though if these non-human beings were soooo connected to humanity that they did these universally human things?

Innocuous, but then it builds up:

"It was queerbaiting"

"They finally confirmed they're romantic in s2 with the kiss"

And making assumptions based on their own allo perspectives:

"If they aren't sexual, what's with all the things like the ox-rib?"

"I understand people read them as asexual, but here is a 5k word meta confirming they're sexual"

"Ace people can still have sex!"

Which can then lead to certain people claiming things like:

"I'm going to quote tweet this person expressing their fear of them making ineffable husbands sexual by saying I hope they do"

"The author said they weren't sexual, but we saw them kiss"

"The author is too cowardly to commit to them being gay because of this"

"What are they gonna do, make them Ken dolls in their relationship?" (This is paraphrasing an actual post)

... what allo people dont get is they can make alllll sorts of excuses for these kinds of phrases: its my interpretation! I'm not really serious! Ace and aro people are valid!! But when those posts get hundreds of notes, and these posts are made by the Big Fandom People, other people climb on the bandwagon and it leads to those last few examples I gave. It's a fucking echo chamber, at that point.

When aspec people talk about these things, they only get ten to twenty notes at best. And you might still get people in their notes saying things like "it's not everyone in fandom, stop taking it so seriously!"

I don't know, man. I tried to talk casually, i tried to give detailed examples on why it's aphobic, I tried calling out the Big Aphobes and still politely censoring their usernames, I tried making a discord for aspec people but its always dead silent in there. All I know is, it's thankfully not just me.

The discourse about how ace/aro characters shouldn’t be shipped is so funny to me as someone who’s into kink and finds attraction in that context to be completely different from romantic and sexual attraction

I’ve got an OTP where headcanon one of the characters as aromantic and interpret the ship as friends(ish) who do kinky shit together. It just works for me, they’re friends canonically and deeply care about each other, that friendship relationship isn’t canceled out by possible aromanticism

And I’ve got an OT3 (X dating Y and Z, Y&Z not dating). I joke about Y&Z being aromantically in love, because they start out tolerating each other’s presence for X’s sake, but through a series of incidents, Y and Z grow to have a completely different connection with each other than they do with X. And also they do kinky shit together but none of them really know what “a kink” is, so it leaves the label in the air (who knew beating up your girlfriend’s boyfriend for fun is a bit different than holding your girlfriend’s hand, you know?)

So yeah, sure, don’t ship aromantic characters or whatever, but no one can really agree what counts as “relationship feelings” anyways

And when it comes to ace characters, As an ace person, let me tell you, libido doesn’t magically disappear just because you’re not attracted to a person. Sometimes a girl’s horny and only trusts her best friend in bed, and that’s all there is to the shipping

But more importantly, where are y’all finding so many ace characters to complain about?? The asks until now have all been in favor of shipping, but I keep seeing posts outside of OTNF’s blog.

I can name you maybe 3 canonically asexual characters (4 if I count that books from the author of heartstopper, but I never read it) only 1 aromantic character. Where are all these poor ace/aro characters being forced into fanfic relationships? (Im not being sarcastic, I’m asking for recommendations )

One has the suspicion a lot of people are actually mad about people not sharing their headcanons.

Aromanticism in Academic Papers (day 3)

This is day 3 of me summarizing a paper that researches aromanticism for each day of ASAW 2024!

Today's paper is "The investment model of commitment: examining asexual and aromantic populations using confirmatory and exploratory factor analysis" by Lijing Ma, Hailey A. Hatch, and Eddie M. Clark [stable link]

This paper focuses on validating the investment model of commitment with aromantic and asexual populations. The investment model of commitment was hypothesized by the authors to help explain differences between ace, aro, and aroace individuals. The investment model suggests that relationship satisfaction, quality of alternatives, and investment together can predict commitment in a relationship. Satisfaction level is the happiness with a current relationship, quality of alternatives is the quality of different relationships/other things that would replace the current relationships (like a close friend fulfilling the emotional support needs that would otherwise be filled by a romantic partner). Investment size is the amount of resources that one has put into a relationship. The theory states that a person is more committed to a relationship if they are more satisfied, have worse alternatives, and have high investment.

Participants were selected from people who indicated they were, aro, ace, or both, but both took the Asexual Identification Scale (created by Morag Yule et al. in 2015) and the Aromantic Identification Scale (created by the authors of this paper by replacing mentions of sex with romance in the Asexual ID Scale). This Aromantic Identification Scale is one of the more significant new things done by this study. Its counterpart, the Asexual Identification Scale has been well documented and used. Having an equivalent for Aromantic populations will enable more research to be conducted. (the aromantic identification scale will be reprinted at the bottom of this post.)

The results of this factor analysis found that satisfaction and commitment were loaded on the same factor, and not separate factors (ie. people of the population do not seem to distinguish between the two measures). This may be biased though, because only half of the participants practiced monogamous relationships, and those who are polyamorous may view commitment differently than how commitment was intially conceptualized in the creation of the Investment model in 1980.

The results also found that commitment was positively related to relationship satisfaction and investment, and negatviely related to quality of alternatives. Meaning that the investment model usually held true with its predictions amount aro and ace individuals, but the factors are not quite the same as what the investment model proposes.

Ultimately, in my opinion, this paper's most significant contribution is that of the Aromantic Identification Scale, and not necessarily its actual findings. I can't say i'm well acquainted with the world of research in the investment model of commitment, so maybe there this paper is more significant.

If the sum of the numbers of answers you selected was above 40, the identification scale believes that you are aromantic. Now, obviously, this scale is not perfect, and is not the end all be all on your identity, what really matters is what you identify as. But for scientific purposes, a sample often needs to be randomized, which means finding aromantic or asexual people in a large population without being able to just ask them if they are or are not aromantic or asexual.
