#thank you for listening to me rant

really solid analysis of ford's reluctance to say "thank you" to stan! just want to throw my own two cents on top of all the great points you made already– i think some of it also came from a place of stubbornness to not give stan what he wanted. hell, had stan not made such a big deal about it right out the gate, ford might've even thanked him of his own volition (or maybe not– he was pretty upset about being dragged back right when he could've defeated bill/the portal even being reactivated, after all) but ford spent the greater part of 40 years believing stan was selfish and only did things that benefitted himself no matter who he hurt in the process, and for stan to (in ford's eyes) disregard all of his warnings and drag him back just to hold it over his head and demand gratitude for saving him from a situation he never would've been in had he not contacted stan in the first place? i think that only drove that idea further home. plus, you know, stubborn bitter old men be stubborn and bitter 🤷‍♀️
Oh, absolutely. That’s what happens when you don’t talk about your emotions; the hurt doesn’t just go away if you pretend it doesn’t exist. Allow me to go on a tangent: (You have woken a beast, Anon)
Anger. God, do I have a lot to say about anger. It is an emotion I am acutely familiar with. But the thing about anger is that it is a secondary emotion; a reaction, and quite often a cover up for fear or hurt. Because anger is an emotion that makes us feel powerful and can give us a shadow of the control we crave.
With that in mind, I bring your attention to toxic masculinity. How often do we see a male character undergo a tragedy or loss of some sort and react with anger or even physical violence? So often, reactions like this are praised by the narrative; the death or tragedy was what pushed the hero to defeat the villain! But the fact is, situations like that are not all that common and resorting to anger and violence after tragedy is never healthy.
So how does this relate to Ford? Well, I have serious doubts that the brand of masculinity he was exposed to growing up was particularly healthy. He spends most of his life heavy with bitterness and anger. Because being bitter and angry hurts so much less than actually cleaning out the wound.
(If discussion about toxic masculinity and masculinity in media interests you, I highly recommend you check out Pop Culture Detective on YouTube. Here is a particularly good video of his: https://youtu.be/kGxW2toAvzc)
It’s okay to be angry. I would even say that anger is often healthy. But it’s definitely not healthy to bathe in your anger and let it consume you.
Moving on though… I do hesitate to label Stan as bitter. Ford, definitely, no doubt about it. But Stan… That man answered a two word plea without any hesitation after no contact for a decade, ready and willing to forgive, forget, and move on. He spent thirty years working his ass off to get Ford back and when he does come back, Stan seems overjoyed and relieved. (Until Ford punches him, that is.) I don’t think those are the actions of a bitter man. Of course, like Ford, Stan has decades of emotions he needs to work through, but I absolutely think he did a better job of handling things than Ford.

I keep falling asleep everywhere and it’s only been a few days. Any Spoonies of the Fibro kind have any experience with this..:….? : Basically on Wednesday my body started hurting everywhere and not just in the trigger points. No new meds, no new habits. But it got so unbearable that my brother dropped me off at the hospital (he had to pick me up about a half dizen hours later because of Raid, which I said was wonderfully fine (I used to raid, myself lol)).
I kept falling asleep everywhere. Waiting room, doctor’s room before he got in, doctor’s room after, and then at the coffee shop I waited at for my brother (the staff were so sweet and basically adopted me).
Had to fight (well, I gently pushed, not fought) for even 3 days of the lowest form of ‘narcotic family meds. It helped but I’ll definitely talk to my regular doc about it on June 1st.
Doc was a little worried about a blood-borne virus or another type of virus that starts eating st the joints. Which actually jives with what my physiotherapist said on Tuesday when she noticed arthritic nodules at the base of my fingers that weren’t there a year ago. Sigh. Would be a shame if I had gout. :P
And yet he still didn’t draw blood or seab or anything fir other samples???
People hear ‘fibromyalgia’ and seem to just close off half their brain. Ridiculous.
But yes. Mostly my question is: have any of you experienced excessive lethargy and sharp pain everywhere on your body, not just triggers? Any hints or clues from your own life experience?
Medical side of Tumblr, I call upon you with this ring of—wait, wrong script. 😂
But yeah, any and all advice would be loving. When it’s just my trigger points hurting, I do know how to lie down to minimize the pain. This, though? Far more widespread snd the lethargy is likely because of not sleeping well.
*violently shakes magic 8 ball* GIVE ME A CLEAR ANSWER, YOU HUNK OF JUNK
And before you ask: yes I had a fully normal (besides herniation and degeneration) MRI done in 2018, osteoporosis check every few, pap every 3, somewhat regular blood tests (unless they look at the wrong things…
So hey! It’s great I’m not nauseous nearly as bad as those 8 months were but oh lookie, a new problem. Or one I was ignoring on purpose while dealing with the nausea.
Sad part is I can only have a ~1km walk a day and it’s been so lovely out. I can sit on the comfy deck chairs but everyone else has to walk Yg noe. My baby. 😢🥲🥰
Off to go fall asleep outside since I just now crossed “fall asleep in shower” off my list. Jeebies H. Crab.
Any help is great, even commiserating! Love all y’all and thanks for listening to me be all upset. Time for some fanfic I’ll likely get a paragraph into then zzzzzz. :P

the netherese orb: consequences for gale and his connection to magic
i wrote a post a while ago focusing on the physical ailments that the orb was causing gale, and i had a really interesting exchange with another user on it:
@dark-videogamer: I just noticed it myself, which for me implies that as the orb is consuming his weave, his life essence, it's also refusing to allow that part of the body to properly heal, like he's always internally bleeding or it's infected. (at least in my opinion) which makes me wonder how irreparable the damage is there. @galedekarios: i actually do have a post coming up on that! i want to focus on what the orb does to his magical ability in that post because i focused more on the physical aspect here. of course, they sort of go hand in hand for a wizard to a certain degree, but there are a few hints in the game. anyhow, sorry for rambling! i very much agree with you! it's def either is still consuming gale's own gifts and i think that's a reality he has to face after it's removed.
so this further inspired because i actually wanted to use this opportunity to look at how the orb might be affecting gale's magic / casting ability.
general stuff & how the physical impairments affect the casting of spells
first off, i want to note that both of these are of course intrinsically linked, not least of all because the orb is affecting everything a caster class needs to cast spells:
-general biological deterioration -muscle spasms -ringing in the ears -disorientation -concentration issues -varying levels of physical discomfort / pain
aside from the obvious things that would impair a caster (deterioriation, disorientation, pain, discomfort), concentration is incredibly important to maintain a spell. muscle spasms, too, would absolutely interfere with the somatic component of a spell:
The somatic component was a basic part of spellcasting. Many spells required the caster to make a motion to cast the spell. If the caster was unable to make the correct motion, the spell could not be cast.
i could add more here, of course, but i think it's fairly obvious how all of these mix together into something that would leave a wizard defenseless, and again, gale admits as much, too:
Tumblr media
player: i fail to see why you need me to help you this. you’ve done fine without me so far. gale: A fair point - however, until recently I was able to rely on a supply of artefacts stored in my tower in Waterdeep. A supply that has now run dry. The reality of the matter is that a lone wizard with a chronic impairment such as my own is not in the most ideal of situations with regards to self-defence. The manner of artefacts I need are not often found waiting patiently on a shop-keep’s shelf. One usually has to lift them delicately from trap-filled tombs or prise them from the hands of violent ne'erdowells.
the orb
but what consequences did the orb itself have?
we have several lines in the game, where characters are surprised that the orb didn't outright kill gale. gale himself knows this and the imagery we get when gale opens his mind to the protag and shares his story is incredibly violent:
Tumblr media
the orb didn't kill him outright and it was a miracle that it didn't, both gale and mystra acknowledge this in-game.
but it left him incredibly weakened and with a condition that could still kill him if left untreated, as well as those around him.
what it did do instantly, however, is that it did consume his gifts.
again, both gale and mystra acknowledge this in-game:
Tumblr media
Gale: Is that why you lied to me about the Crown of Karsus? Self-preservation? Mystra: My concern was the preservation of everything. The Karsite Weave could tear apart the very fabric of the Material Plane. That it entered your body and consumed no more than your powers was a miracle. But we will not be granted another. The only reason the 'orb' sleeps is because I have allowed it to feed on the true Weave - a temporary measure, but one that will not be enough to save us.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gale: It sounds like the door to redemption is open at last. All I have to do is walk through it, carrying the Crown of Karsus. Player: Is that what you want? Gale: Perhaps. I see few other options open to me, if I ever want to reclaim those parts of myself the orb snatched away. If I ever want to be me again. Player: We're going to cure you Gale: Thank you. There aren't many I'd trust to stand beside me on such a journey. Fewer still who would do so because they believe I deserve such a chance.
so what are these gifts that were consumed exactly?
in early access, there used to be a scene with gale in act i that was commonly known as the loss scene, where he would be found in camp, cursing as he tries to cast a spell that he was once able to:
Gale: Khat-Tsjin Deth-Thra! Tav [Wizard]: That was a failed spell if ever I heard one.  Gale: Failure. You'd think I'd be used to it by now. It’s getting late. I think I’ll turn in. Perhaps some sleep will do me good. Tav: Is something wrong? Gale: Let’s just say not all is right. But that goes for all of us. Tav [Wizard]: I didn't recognize your hand gestures. What spell were you trying to cast? Gale: A bygone spell from a bygone age. It doesn't matter. Tav [weave romantic]: Come, you know I care about you. I showed you when we shared that spell [CHECK wizard] Gale: So you did. Very wel. Just now, I was trying to cast a spell I once cast with ease, but I failed. You see, this fire – there was a time that I could make it come alive. That it would take the shape of a dragon and roar in delight. There was a time I could silence a Beholder with a word, and lift a tower from its foundations with a flourish. There was a time I was all but one with the Weave. But no more – a mere shadow of the wizard I used to be. Why? Because I’ve lost. Tav: I don’t understand. What is it that you’ve lost? Gale: I’ve lost… Tav: [Insight] Go on. Every burden is easier to carry when shared. Gale: An apt enough observation.  I've... lost... Mystra. I sought to impress her personally. Tav: Another fool pays for his arrogance. A tale as old as time. Gale: Arrogance? Ambition, rather. And ambition is a fine thing – until suddenly it no longer is. Then again, if that is how you judge me, there’s little I can do to change your mind. But know that I have this ambition still. First to save myself, and after that, the licence to dream. (Gale Disapproval)
this insight in just how great the magnitude of his loss in power as a wizard and, intrinsically linked to that, his ability as a wizard is entirely absent in the full release of the game.
while we do know that he was an archmage and we also know that he was a chosen of mystra, with all the gifts that may have entailed, we only get a very vague mention of the lost gifts and gale being a former shadow of who he used to be.
abilities of the chosen of mystra include:
Chosen of Mystra gained many benefits from her blessing. They held a greater command over spell, being able to cast even the highest tiers repeatedly. Doing so, however, was not encouraged by Azuth and Mystra (Midnight), as it required repeatedly tapping upon the weave. They also became more familiar with magic and able to detect its presence. In addition, many also developed immunities to magic, and eventually even immunities to disease and poison. They become much more hardy, showing a toughness uncharacteristic of most mages. Mystra's Chosen were also immune to the deleterious effects from the casting and wearing of a mantle: they suffered no loss of health or the removal of spells from their minds upon the raising of a mantle or the cumulative daily requirement of the spell. The Chosen also wielded silver fire, a unique raw magic that conjured a silvery flame with a variety of functions.
[source]
other interesting bits and pieces:
Chosen age, albeit slowly, and as they age their power becomes closer to equivalent level mortal wizards. They can steal bodies to prolong their lifespan, but if they choose not to they eventually die and return to the Weave until Mystra makes them a new body. Chosen still have access to Silver Fire and can manipulate their hair freely. Mystra has imposed restrictions on magic in some cases, such as making it physically painful to read minds. This applies to using weave-work to communicate long distance with 'regular' humans. Chosen have the ability to communicate to the weave-ghosts of other Chosen as well as living Chosen, but rarely seek to interrupt the lives of each other. Laeral can speak across distance with Storm, Alustriel and even Halaster. Chosen still don't need to sleep, but do need to enter Reverie to replenish their energy.
[source]
again, this is all not really mentioned in the game and it's sad because again, it adds a lot of context to gale as a character. the most that is hinted at, i believe, is elminster's incredibly long lifespan of several hundreds of years.
conclusion / consequences of removing the orb
this is just speculation on my part, so feel free to ignore this completely.
apart from the chronic ailments, we know from the arcane hunger status that the orb feeds on gale's very soul and that both gale and mystra acknowledge that the orb has consumed already gale's greatest gifts as a wizard.
we also know that tara and gale were not able to figure out immediately how to treat the orb after gale was afflicted by it. it was tara, who in their combined research, figured it out and it took them some time to do so.
on top of that, we know that gale had to live without said treatment for a while since he no longer had any magical items to consume and, in fact, i speculated it's a part of the reason why he may have left waterdeep behind and was captured on the nautiloid.
all this time, the orb was left with nothing to consume, with nothing to feed on, except what was within gale to give and the orb is ever-hungry.
i feel like this surely would have consequences even after the orb is rendered inert and then, later, implied to be removed by mystra:
one of the sadder outcomes could very well be that his ability to cast spells is permanently diminished or entirely cut off.
Thus comes the question: what is the Weave? It is an essential element of the universe. It runs through everything in unseen threads. It is what makes magic possible. — Excerpt from Magic of the Weave - An Introduction.
with the orb inside of him, left untreated for long intervals, it may have consumed a lot of gale's own weave, something that runs through all living souls, his ability to cast magic might be even smaller and weaker than now.
at best, it will take him some time after the game to recover, back home in waterdeep, with tara, with morena and a romanced protag and new friends.
at worst, and, with the knowledge that the orb consumed so much upon first entering his body, it may also be a possibility that gale could be stripped of magic entirely, but that's quite a cruel fate for him, someone who says that magic is their life.

Just realizing that the fact that there exists an “Angel Eyes” Eclipse implies the existence of either a more foreboding or comically innocent version of him called “Devil Eyes”
oh, Lumi, you just unleashed something devasting
As entertaining as a detective Eclipse would be, innocent and way in over his head when it comes to dealing with a mob boss Y/N who just so happens to find him devilishly handsome and too clever for his own good, I'm thinking of something worse than a mob boss.
As a young rookie cop, you are attempting to put out so many fires in the city. The crime rate is abysmal. The politicians are running on fumes and bribes. The police force is barely hanging on through constant corruption. Animatronics are still considered inhuman, unalive, objects to be owned and used, and disposed of. You're hoping that the laws declaring animatronic rights will pass soon.
Murders happen every single day in a city racked with gangs, crime lords, and thieves. You and a few other officers are tasked with dealing with a particular crime scene. It's not unusual for a politician to get assassinated, but there's something particularly brutal about the killing that sits in your stomach wrong—there was blood everywhere.
Then another important person gets knocked off, the carnage grisly and crimson, then another, and another. You can't shake how savage the murders are.
High-ranking officials start having you and other cops stand as bodyguards, taking them where they need to go, standing outside their meeting doors and on the street of their homes at night.
The killings keep happening. You learn of police officers who were standing watch were gutted, too. Slained just as well as the intended target.
You do your job, but you don't like it. You became a cop to help the city. This wasn't what you had in mind, much less babysitting powerful and possibly corrupted individuals that you despise.
That's how you confront him.
Late one evening, sitting in a squad car with a fellow policeman, you two keep each other awake with small talk until you hear the faintest scream. You both take off, and you take the back of the house. When you enter the gauche kitchen, there's a cook animatronic knocked to the ground. You stop to speak to the poor robot, her optics fuzzy until you offer a helping hand and get her back onto her wheels.
Before you can send her somewhere safe, a cold shudder rolls down your spine, as if someone were walking on your grave. You whirl around to find a towering figure at the far end of the room, dark and threatening. Black optics with pinpricks of electric yellow peer at you in judgment. The devilish eyes startle your soul.
You yell out commands to stop but the animatronic—you realize—doesn't head and disappears deeper into the house.
You give chase. You hear a gunshot upstairs and a shout from your partner. When you reach the second landing, you lift your gun to take aim, but a large fist clamp around your own. You fire once, hitting nothing. You're thrown against the wall, dangling by the wrists under the looming killer. Sharp rays, burgundy and royal blue, circle his face plate, splattered in bright blood.
It's too late. It's too late for the politician, it's too late for your partner, and it's too late for you.
He takes your gun and drops it far away. His staggering height gives no hope that you can fight him off, and already, he has you pinned. You simply hope that it will be quick, painless, but your heart sinks when he lifts a hand to your throat. His optics glint. You close your eyes.
A cold, slick finger tilts your chin up. He commands you to look at him, and you aversely obey. The optics scan your face. You wonder if he takes a sick pleasure from causing harm. You loathe that he most likely finds fear in your eyes but you are determined to not make a sound.
"Officer," he says in a cold, dark voice that spears your heart. He studies the badge on your chest, reading your last name etched in brass. You clench your fists, still suspended by his one large hand.
"Who are you?" you demand.
He doesn't answer. He cocks his head with a flash of sharp teeth in a metallic grin. When he drops you, you nearly crumple to the ground. You're aware of the blood underneath your chin where he had touched you. When you try to reach for your handcuffs, he's already down the stairs and out the door, fleeing the murders. Trembling, you fumble for your gun, but you find the clip gone.
The killer animatronic left you alive.

it's actually, genuinely, honestly hilarious that in a fandom where popular ships include characters who are biologically related, characters with a 10+ year age gap who met when one was a teenager or even a child, and characters who have tried to kill each other, people hate on a friends-to-lovers ship with a <2 year age gap where the characters have a deep emotional bond and plenty of romantic subtext, because "they're siblings". my brother in the force they are literally not.
#i'm just saying. out of all the ships in the star war; sabine and ezra have one of the healthiest dynamics#right up there with kanera and bail and breha and obitine and maybe a few others. there are SO few 'problems' with it.#not that those 'problems' make a ship BAD when it's written well or in certain context.#just that out of all the ships to pick on; people choose THIS one?????#the one with character growth and found family and mutual respect??#the one with self-sacrifice and decades-long loyalty and obitine parallels and a jetpack chase scene????#what's there to hate???#and i would add a disclaimer about how if you dont ship them its fine as long as you dont bully but honestly?#i am so so tired of having to qualify my statements.#this is about the targeted hate. this has always been about the targeted hate.#and i don't care if someone loathes something i love as long as they they keep that loathing out of my personal space.#this has been a tag rant. thank you for reading.#btw i'm not being sarcastic about it being hilarious. it genuinely cracks me up to see people get SO hateful over this#for a reason that does not exist#as opposed to several other ships which DO IN FACT HAVE THAT OBJECTION.#like. oh my gosh. are you even listening to yourselves.#if u wanna have the don't-ship-siblings fight then puhLEEZE bring it to someone who ships siblings.#jessica's controversial star wars opinions#sabezra#(don't worry that this post is a vent because i'm getting bullied or anything. im not visible enough for that i guess lol)#it was written in humor not in hurt :)

Aight I'm awake and writing this in class :3
So, what's up with the shadows in this post? Is that Whole? Ehhh yes and no. That's just a shadow.
Kind of like in Light.
Tumblr media
"But wait isn't that Whole" EXACTLY. Whole is a shadow.
And here's where my interpretation steps in. (tossing in a read more this got long)
I think that HMS have always been Whole, in dissonance and harmony alike. There is no higher being they will become when they are harmonious, there is no total being that they make up. They ARE Whole, and there is no Whole. (side note I'm using the "mental illness as a loop" interpretation instead of an actual time loop, there is potential for growth)
So if there is no Whole, why does the shadow exist?
A shadow tends to be what's haunting you, and not what you aspire to be in the mirror. I see HMS pursuing becoming Whole as literally chasing their own shadow, something that doesn't exist yet is still inherently themselves.
Whole, to me, is a shadow that is cast when HMS are together. 'Whole' is a concept that they chase, so he is the concept that they cast.
HMS doesn't reflect Whole, Whole reflects HMS.
As a kind of additional slap to the face, his name is not Whole or Harmonia. He is less than HMS are after all, nor is he the ideal human they are chasing. He is "a sad sulking mess, this human you're being", so he is not Whole. He is also formed regardless of dissonance or harmony as long as they are together, so he is not Harmonia.
His name is Me. ("I AM ME")
There is no god here for you to find. At the end of your faith, there is only Me and Me and Me. You are the gods and titans you have always searched for, Apollo and Artemis and Atlas.

Any Tang thoughts? 👀
YES!! Forgive me for taking forever to respond, I literally was brewing my thoughts together.
Summary: I believe that Tang is the most similar to his reincarnation, judging by what I've read in JTTW, and also he has the coolest ability.
Okay, let me start off by saying that initially, I did not like Tang. I felt like his character didn't mesh well with the group's dynamic and he just felt out of place. Since then, I am now a big Tang fan. While his character dynamic still feels a bit wonky, I love how in season 3 and season 4 he slowly gets more of an emphasis.
The reason I believe that Tang is most like his counterpart in JTTW is that although Tripitaka is very knowledgeable, he will usually insult the people who work so hard to protect him. In JTTW, Tripitaka is also noted to have trouble walking, which tang is something that Tang also struggles with. (Although, Tang might have been faking it.)
Tumblr media
Although, I believe that Tang's weak ankles are referenced again in season 4, so I don't think he's faking it. WHICH LEADS ME TO THE POINT OF THEY SHOULD HAVE GIVEN HIM A WALKING CANE THAT TURNS INTO HIS STAFF LATER ON. (Missed opportunity if you ask me.)
Tumblr media
Tang also has the uncanny ability to interact with the fourth wall, my favorite being when he says "Oh I see that Sandy is in this episode." In Season 2, Episode 8. I have no idea if the gif will work, but Tang can be seen looking straight at the viewer when Sandy mentions the plot convenience of the flower's bloom.
Honestly? I would love it if Tang has this ability due to the powers of his reincarnation.
Tumblr media
I MEAN LOOK. No one else can see the golden cicadas that literally tell Tang how to move the plot along. There is literally a built-in Deus ex-Machina power that only Tang is actually able to see. If we ever get an episode from Tang's POV, I really hope they address the cicadas. Also, Tang is the only one who gets to interact with one of his previous reincarnations outside of the scroll, which must be super weird. Then you also have the weird plot contradiction that Tang should NOT be the reincarnation of Tripitaka if he completed the journey to the West, because doing the journey should have freed him from the cycle of reincarnation. But, it's a Lego show, so I am not going to fight it.
Also, I think his characterization is perfect. I mean imagine you are 40ish years old, an english major, and have no physical skills. Now also imagine you are best friends with a 6ft pro-wrestler, a man who can crush you with his bare hands, and two people half your age. Then suddenly, those people who are half your age become more powerful than you could ever comprehend. Yeah, I can see why Tang would never get worried about being hurt or putting in effort. However, that also is going to do horrible things to your self-esteem. Tang did not any powers until about the end of season 3, and even then his powers are only really used in season 4.
Tumblr media
WHICH IS WHY THIS SCENE IS SO IMPORTANT TO ME. Instead of falling victim to an inferiority complex, Tang knows his strengths and knows that he has a good family. I'm going to be so honest with you all, I think this episode was where I started to like Tang. He doesn't even have powers here, he is simply a man who loves his family.
I've already talked so much, but I just really love Tang and I hope he gets actual characterization throughout season 5.

I’m curious about your masters! You doing a course based or thesis based? Do you have any specific areas you’re focusing on? (If you wanna share lol)
I'm doing a taught based masters but want to do a PhD next year or the year afterwards. Being taught is just a lot of work shopping, reading sources and essays. And a SHIT ton of writing.
For my research based, I really wanna base it around the narrative of linear versus choice bases games, and how it can fail and when it succeeds, while dipping into games from multi endings games that range from complex, like patholigic, to simple, such as mystic messenger or most otome games
Cuz I'm a nerd
