thinking about maggie and went really awkwardly trying to let richie know they'd support him if he was gay without letting him know they basically are 100% sure he is gay... but they're really bad at it and it just ends with richie really confused about their taste in entertainment
richie is like. dead from finals at university and he's coming home from the summer and he's real excited to see his parents and he gets off the bus or train or whatever and went's like. "it's so good to see you son. also did you hear ellen is a lesbian? isn't that great!" and richie's just like?????? "yes dad thats. thats nice? its good to see you too?"
a year or so later he comes home and he's just trying to settle in and maggie's like "richie! come here, i think you'll really like this music!" and he comes into the living room and maggie is playing judas priest on her CD player and she's like "i think you'd really like them, they're called judas priest" and richie's like. "mom. mom are you okay? i introduced you to judas priest. remember? i made you buy me a new CD because you stole mine... DADDDD mags is acting weird." and maggie's just like. "rich, richie, did you hear? their lead singer is gay, isn't that cool?" and richie's just like.... "um. yes?"
went keeps trying to like. collect a list of lgbtq historical figures and he'll randomly pop into richie's room with "did you know oscar wilde was gay?" and richie's like. where in the world are you getting this information???
more later my assignments are NOT completing themselves

thinking about Nico adjusting to letting himself miss and long for the people he loves. based on these bits from the sun and the star:
" As Nico and Will followed the trogs, he thought about how much he missed Hazel. He was learning to make peace with that feeling. It was okay for him to miss people because that meant he wanted them around in his life. That idea was *very* new for him- he was used to either pushing people away or watching them recoil from his presence." *
" That was the most surreal thing of all... Was he happy? Nico wasn't very familiar with the sensation, but he couldn't deny that he felt wonderful in Will's presence. He even longed for the son of Apollo when they were apart. A funny thing had happened as the two grew closer: Nico suddenly understood all those cheesy, sappy love songs he'd always hated."

Hmmmm
Hmmmmm
So we know during the time Tim lost in spleen (his Red Robin run) and wakes ups next to the pit he almost believed he had been tossed in the Lazarus Pits.
What if
Now hear me out.
What if he actually was.
But what if instead of gaining Pit Madness, he unlocked his past life memories.
His memories of being Daniel 'Danny' Fenton and Danny Phantom.
And once the memories returned so did his ghost form and powers.
And as Tim sits at the bottom of the pits, crossing his legs and letting all his memories slide back into place he questioned what to do now. He pondered for a moment and hummed tapping a finger to his chin.
Maybe he'll play the Pit Madness card? After all Ra's chucked him in here to either turn him into a mindless rage machine he could manipulate or see what the Pits would do to a mind like Tim's. Or Tim could pretend to be a silent rage, a calm before the storm.
Well, Tim grinned his eyes glowing green as he stared at the surface of the Lazarus waters above him, he was very good at lying this life time around. After all he was Tim 'I can even lie to Batman and get away with it' Drake-Wayne and he did used to be Danny 'Commit to the bit' Fenton/Phantom.
He was going to have fun playing that fruitloop named Ra's like the cheap kazoo he was.

I… do not understand tumblr live. Like, are there actually only about 50 people streaming across the whole platform at any one time? And why are so many of them just… people smoking? Or unoccupied desks? And why is nobody talking about frogs?

One thing that I think a lot of Disco Elysium meta misses (likely because a lot of it is very clearly written by young Americans writing from an intensely American-centric cultural perspective without even really realizing it) is that one of the singular and central themes of the game is massive-scale generational trauma in a home that is economically collapsing as its resources and people are being drained by an occupation.  People have noted that no one tries to help Harry, despite the fact his mental illness is incredibly obvious to everyone around him.  He tells Kim that he completely lost his memory, and Kim politely asks him to focus on the work.  He tells Gottlieb that he had a heart attack, and Gottlieb tells him that if he’s still alive it couldn’t have been that bad.  That he’ll drop dead sooner or later, but then so does everyone.
And that’s the most important thing: so does everyone.  Look at Martinaise.  Look at the world in which Harry lives.  It is not our own, but it is adjacent to ours.  More specifically, it is clearly adjacent to the states of the Eastern Bloc: overtaken and occupied by a faraway government that clearly doesn’t care about Revachol or its people.  And that is obvious in every tired face, every defeated citizen, everyone trying to eke out a little happiness or meaning in spite of the overwhelming trauma and damage around them.  The buildings are still half-destroyed.  The bullet holes are still in the walls.  The revolution was decades before, but it still feels to the people there like a fresh wound.  The number of men of Harry’s generation who are not alcoholic or otherwise deeply fucked up are very few.  Some, like Kim, hide it better, but the deeper you dig into his history, the more you realize how damaged Kim is.  He’s more than a little trigger happy, and hates that about himself, but he is a product of his environment: Kim’s entire life is seeing people he cared about shot and killed, so his instinct now is to shoot first himself, to protect those few people left who still matter to him.
Harry is not unique in his trauma.  He is a distillation of an entire culture of people who tried to rise up and make something beautiful, and were instead routed and occupied.  He is trapped between the occupation and the people on the ground, along with all the rest of the RCM.  Their authority comes from the occupying government, but it is implied that they were formed out of the remnants of the citizens militia which sprung up from Revachol itself as a way to try to mitigate some of the horrors being committed on its streets.  The Moralintern sure as hell wasn’t going to get their hands dirty, so they happily conscripted (and therefore could better control) this group, who are only recognized in certain places, and whose authority mostly amounts to giving out fines.  The RCM is corrupt, but it is corrupt in the same way its culture is.  Bribes are considered standard with them, not a moral failing, but a necessity, so long as those bribes are correctly logged as ‘donations’.  It’s how the RCM stays afloat, and the rest of Revachol completely understands that.  Everyone would take a bribe if it meant they kept eating.  Everyone would take a little under-the-table money if it meant keeping a roof over their heads.  The officersof the RCM certainly don’t make enough to see a doctor.  They have an in-house lazarus, and if he can’t fix them they just die.  Mental health care?  What mental health care?  Harry doesn’t get it for the same reason no one else does: it doesn’t really seem to exist.  There are no counselors, no psychologists, no psychiatrists.  How would they even start?  If the world is what is broken, if everyone is suffering a similar catastrophic amount, it makes sense that Harry’s trauma would simply get rolled up with all the rest.  Kim asks him to get on with the job because Harry’s suffering is not remarkable in Revachol.  He is one of an entire generation who have an astronomical number of orphans from the revolution, and so many younger people are left more or less orphans as their parents drink themselves into oblivion like Cuno’s father.  So Harry’s truly unique attribute is embodying all that trauma, having it all inside of him, filling him to bursting.
To really engage with the themes of the game, engaging first and foremost with the reality of Revachol is imperative.  Imposing our own reality onto Revachol, particularly if coming from an American perspective (which tend to have the habit of both viewing the world through an American lens and not realizing they’re doing it because they’ve never experienced a different lens), will always feel shallow to me because of this.
All that is to say, I would love to hear some more explicitly European meta about this game, and especially Eastern European meta.  If anyone can point me to some good, juicy essays from that perspective, I would be grateful!

maggie tozier to me is like the losers favorite adult ever. like all of them love her, i know it in my heart. like she picks a bunch of them up from school and everyones excited to see her and they fight over who gets to sit in the front with her and she asks them all about their days and usually a lot of them when their parents ask that they just go "fine" but all of them end up sharing random details from their days. all of them have fond memories of her helping them with cuts, or homework, or driving them out of derry for day trips, and she's like. the coolest adult they know because she lets richie swear and she is halfway decent at mario. they just think she's the coolest adult in the whole world. i think once richie is like 15ish he moves past the "my parents are so embarrassing" phase and he is her number one hype man. "guys my mom made this awesome dinner you have to come try some" "guys mags said she would drive us up to canada to celebrate when all of us are 18" "i bet my mom could beat you at mortal kombat" (another reason why the losers thinks she's really cool is because she lets them all, including her son, call her maggie). eddie wants to make fun of richie so bad for being such a momma's boy because of how relentless he was about eddie's own relationship with sonia when they were younger, but he can't bring himself to do it because like. they all love maggie so much, of course richie loves her.

Anybody else think that the "superhero fatigue" people keep talking about has less to do with people not liking superheroes as a genre, and more to do with many superhero movies made in the past few years being bad faith adaptations?
I'm not tired of comic books or action movies, or the inherent optimism of a world that, despite its many flaws, deserves saving
I'm tired of movies that are mass produced with no respect to the source material, audience, or the people making it!

💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart?
🤡 What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh?
😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?
💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart?
I don't think I could ever truly break my own heart with a fic; I control the outcome, so the story doesn't have any leverage to hurt me unexpectedly. However, I do feel dismal about the consequences of name of the ruiner (warning for noncon), since within the context of that story I've created a future where Jack and Gabriel both die miserably, unreconciled.
🤡 What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh?
Imagining the delivery of this exchange from the Venom fic did make me laugh to myself.
“I don’t want your excuses, Eddie. I want your penis.” “Oh-kay,” he says, his voice rising a little. “Well. H…ere it is.”
😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?
I think the entire premise of things you say when no one's listening is a bit playfully mean! I wanted people to have some doubts about what was going on but to also get kind of swept up in Jack's anxiety.
Thank you very much for the questions!

yeah, i'm actually really fascinated by the setup going into the last episode here.
like. okay. so the thing is: despite the tasks and the secrecy and the chaos, secret life has actually been a season of INCREDIBLY STABLE ALLIANCES. i don't think alliances have been this stable since third life. people keep on re-affirming their loyalty to one another, sacrificing themselves for one another, dying for one another.
the difference between this and third life, though, is that there aren't blood feuds driving this whole thing. sure, there are some grudges (the cleo/pearl enemyship from this season instantly exploding, for example) and some loners (poor scar) but. NOTHING like the level the end of a life series season normally gets to. everyone is mostly... friendly? and they're going to protect their own alliance first, but...
the thing is, no one has an incentive outside of the tasks to kill, it feels like. despite several tasks seemingly being DESIGNED to form grudges, that lack of grudge, killing energy is felt ALL THROUGHOUT this session. the reds only went after yellows, after all, and even that felt... almost half-hearted and cartoonish, compared to how it normally gets when there are only a few yellows left and a critical mass of reds. and without yellows to target here, what drive do the red names have to start killing?
they don't have any reason to betray each other, and they also don't have any reason to lead their allies into danger, right now. we're in a calm before the storm, sure, but i have no idea what can even START the storm.
something has to blow this up next. something has to make this fall apart. but for the season about secrets, this has been a season of people who largely stick together, and i don't know if anything can change that at this point. not when everyone is settling back into their alliances after the zombie thing last session.
i suspect we're going to have a different kind of ending: an ending of people who don't want to be doing it. who are tired. who don't want to be killing. all they want is to protect their alliances. they're on an even playing field now, after all.
the only difference from the start of the game, now, is that they have people to lose, and three already missing. three holes in the cast list to remind us that this is still a death game, even after two deathless sessions later.
i don't know where this is going. i don't know what this is setting up. but it's... strange, and i'm fascinated.
