warnings: bit of angst, talks of childbirth (nothing explicit), anxiety
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hours seemed to tick on forever. Another few nerve-stricken paces and Stephen Strange was positive he’d burn a hole into the linoleum floors.
As a surgeon, he had never been nervous performing a procedure. He was the greatest neurosurgeon out there and no one could take away his title. His calm reserve, his steady hand. He was quintessentially perfect. Anxiety didn’t grip him in its vice.
Until the accident. He finally was made aware of his emotions and how delicate he truly could become. He discovered his unwavering ability to exhaust emotion; tears, sadness, happiness, love. It all came like a tidal wave upon his metaphorical shoreline when you happened. When you walked into his life, he discovered that he could feel all of those emotions, sometimes all at once. But fear was the least felt.
Until today. Today he felt fear. He never wanted to experience such a cruel emotion but as he watched you writhe in pain and cry for him to make it stop while knowing this was one problem he couldn’t solve with the wave of his hand, that nature must take its course, he grew scared. He had been waiting for this moment ever since those two lines appeared on the pregnancy test, after the initial shock of oh wow, I’m going to be a dad after not wanting kids, and today in the delivery room, mournful that he couldn’t be more for you than just a hand to squeeze and a shoulder to cry on… and bite. He wasn’t expecting teeth marks on his skin today, but he’d let you do it a million times over if it meant he could get you through this.
“You’re doing so good, baby. I promise. It’s almost over.” he had encouraged you with both hands clasped through yours, his body leaning over the edge of the bed as you worked through every single ache and pain. You held him like a vice until you were dizzy, his voice the only thing holding you to the bed. You blocked out the voices of the doctors, nurses, you only desired Stephen’s encouragement through such a trauma as this.
And when the pain ceased and you felt a sudden emotion of emptiness, the one thing that only you had held on the inside for nine months was extracted from your being, you felt numb.
Stephen held you tightly, awaiting that glorious sound all parents mewled about. His hands were trembling in yours as he waited, and waited, and waited.
“Come on, sweetheart. Cry.” Stephen whispers to a little girl who couldn’t hear him. “What’s going on?” he demands, using the voice he reserved for the operating room.
He hears the doctor and nurse's correspondence.
“Fluid in the lungs” - “Can’t breathe” - “Lips are blue”.
Quickly, his mind whirred and he knew what was happening. His baby girl had entered the world essentially lifeless. He turns to you, feeling as you force yourself up in the hospital bed by way of his arm. You clutch his forearm in a death grip despite your strength having been drained, the wave of adrenaline pulsing through your veins as you struggle to overhear.
“What is going ON?!” you scream at the top of your lungs, pain surging throughout your limbs. You were a brand new mother who hadn’t got to see your daughter’s face and more importantly hear her cry.
“Honey, I need you to lie back down,” Stephanie coaxes, kissing your forehead that was slick with sweat. You look up at your husband whose eyes are fixated on you. “Take some breaths for me, alright?” He knows you’re on the verge of panic so he quickly reaches above the hospital bed to grab the oxygen mask.
“Stephen!” you exclaim, lungs aching. He shushes you and closes his hands around yours. He wouldn’t dare let his resolve down, not now. You needed him more than ever and he couldn’t let you see him fall apart, even though he wanted to bombard those working on his baby and the cause.
“She’s going to be okay. We’ve got to let them look at her.” He smothers his face against your hair, reaches up, and strokes your scalp, “That’s my girl, nice deep breaths. I need you to stay calm for her. Can you do that for our little girl, sweetheart?”
You nod your head. Your ears were ringing so loud after she came out that you didn’t overhear what Stephen did.
“I-I’m scared,” you blubber.
Stephen can feel tears pricking the corners of his eyes. I am too, baby. I am too he thinks to himself.
“There’s no need to be scared. I’ll be scared for us both.” Stephen kisses your temple before moving to your lips, tasting the saltwater tears that had fallen to your mouth.

That was hours ago. Stephen continued to pace the floors. The last he heard was that his daughter was being taken to the NICU for further observation and to be stabilized. Fortunately, Christine had stopped by a few times to check in. She of course had no updates for the two of you, but she was there as a means of emotional support. Each time she snuck in quietly, she’d find a pacing Stephen who she only sighed at.
“Have you sat down?” Christine whispered, seeing as you were finally asleep. Stephen shakes his head as Christine grabs his hand, forcing him to stop. “Stephen. You need to sit.” she leads him to the chair but he shakes his head.
“No, Christine, I need–,”
“To be a supportive husband and great father. You can’t do that when youre footprints are embedded into the floor.” she chuckles quietly but turns serious upon seeing his wary expression. She licks her lips and sighs. “If that little girl is anything like you? She won’t give up. She’ll be a fighter. But she needs a father who can remain strong for her… You can’t stay strong if you’re exhausting yourself. The same goes for her,” Christine looks over at you. “She needs you to lean against during this which means she needs you relaxed and alert. But pacing won’t do anything.”
Stephen draws in a sharp breath and finally takes a seat upon Christine’s pushing of his shoulders. She smiles at him and pats his shoulder.
“Everything’s going to be okay, Stephen.”
He sure hoped so. “Thank you,” he nods his head, appreciative of her friendship despite their past. He squeezes her hand just before she removes it from his shoulder.
“Try and squeeze in a cat nap. You’ll feel better.”
He chuckles, knowing sleep was out of the question entirely. But rather than arguing with her, he nods his head in agreement. When Christine left and Stephen was left alone with his thoughts, he closed his eyes and tried to imagine him finally holding his daughter, and how relief would wash over him the moment he could see her. That’s how he managed to close his eyes and relax. He did it for his two girls. You and that precious little one fighting upstairs.
An hour or so later, when the door to your room opened, Stephen’s eyes bolted open and he was up on his feet in seconds. The woman who delivered your daughter enters the room, pushing a tiny glass cart. Stephen’s heart thudded wildly in his chest, realization washing over him at just who this sweet little visitor could be.
“Hi, Dad,” the doctor whispers.
Stephen gasped quietly at the sight, that relief he clung to after Christine left washing over him. “How is she?” he asks.
“She scared us there for a little while.. she came so fast that she swallowed some fluid on the way out, but she’s perfectly healthy. I didn’t want to wake Mom up. I know she’s been anxious, but would you like to hold your little girl?”
Stephen felt a rush of emotion. He never wanted kids. He thought they were irritabilities, tiny humans who would annoy him forever. He was one of those people who when the kid ran around the dinner table in a restaurant after being told to stop, would smirk when they finally smacked their forehead against the surface. Christine normally always kicked him in the shin under the table and then you started doing it when you began dating. But that all changed the morning you approached him with trembling hands and a positive pregnancy test.
“Yes, please,” Stephen whispers, looking over at you. He was grateful you had finally succumbed to the clutches of sleep. He wasn’t sure how much longer you could keep going, as you were nearing 48 hours of no sleep at all.
The doctor smiles and motions him to sit in the chair beside your bed. She rolls the glass cart over to him and looks down at the sleeping bundle. “She didn’t get to have skin-to-skin with Y/N so would you like to do that? She can do it also when she wakes up, but we find that skin-to-skin holds many benefits.”
Stephen nods his head as the doctor lists the positives such as bonding, regulation of body temperature, and heart rate, among others, tears burning the corners of his eyes. He quickly unbuttons his shirt and pulls it open, his heart racing even faster when the doctor carefully picks up his daughter and leads her to his chest. She rests the baby on top of him and immediately, Stephen feels like a brand new man. The softness and warmth of her skin against his made his serotonin level skyrocket and caused more tears to freely fall.
“Congratulations, Dad,” she whispers in the dimly lit room. “We just fed her in the nursery but when Mama wakes up, we’ll let her try feeding her. Call if you need anything,”
Stephen nods his head and watches the doctor leave, gently closing the door behind her. He looks down at the new life snuggled against him. Her eyes peel open, naturally blue irises glassy as she moves her lips. Stephen could already see you within her. Her sweet little nose, the curl of her lips. He took a small peek under the hat, the tiniest wisps of brown hair visible, sending the new father into a chokehold.
“Oh, my darling girl,” Stephen coos. “You gave Mommy and I quite the scare today… Yes, you did. But I’m so glad you’re here. Do you know who I am? You’ve heard my voice every single day… Whether I was telling you and Mommy how much I love you or bickering with Wong. You’ve heard it. I’m your Daddy,” the words fall like water from his mouth and his chest tightens as he dubs himself with the title. Daddy. He’s a father.
The baby girl gently closes her eyes, lips smacking as she remains rested on his chest. Stephen ran his fingertip up and down her spine, bewildered by how soft she was. He glances over at your sleeping form. He smiles, being the proudest he’s ever been since the day he proposed and the day he wed you. He had you to thank for all of this. His little family. The only family he’s known other than those he’s encountered on his journey.
“My sweet Tessa… Yes, you’re my special girl, aren’t you? I promise. I may not do everything right in life but I’ll do right by you. Thank you for changing my life,” the tears flow without warning as Stephen presses his quivering lips to the side of her head, squeezing his lids shut as he snuggles her closer. You stir gently and awake to the sight of your husband holding your newborn, your heart fluttering.
“She’s okay?” You ask hoarsely.
Stephen’s head lifts at the noise and a smile of relief greets his face. He looked exhausted and you felt bad that he hadn’t gotten a wink of sleep except for his small power nap. He wouldn’t dare miss out on anything.
“She’s perfect, sweetheart. You did it.”
The look of utter pride glows on his face. You feel your lungs refill with fresh air as you wince, moving to sit up gently. “Can I?”
Stephen chuckles quietly. “How could you ask me something like that? Of course, you can. Tessa, let’s meet your beautiful Mommy, yeah? I know, I know,” he shushes her as she starts to pout her lips, a pitiful cry on the verge of slipping. Your body felt like electricity had just been shot throughout it, the excitement bubbling.
“Here, let’s unbutton this,” Stephen holds Tessa in one arm while he helps you unbutton your hospital gown. Once your chest is exposed, Stephen places Tessa on you and you fall apart the moment you touch her. Your lips quiver and the tears spill.
“Oh my God,” you whisper, kissing her. You drew in a deep breath, Tessa’s scent making you cry even more. Stephen slips into bed beside you and carefully puts one arm around you while holding his other hand over yours that’s currently on Tessa. “S-she’s perfect,” you cry.
Stephen wipes his eyes through a sniffle.
“She is,” he can’t help but agree. “I’ve never seen someone so little,”
You giggle softly, kissing her head as you lean into your husband’s chest. “We’re parents, Stephen. We have a daughter.”
He smirks, his eyes resting on you. He leans in and kisses your lips tenderly, savoring the taste. As he pulls away, both of you turn your attention down to your newest addition, your hearts soaring over the moon.

he’s got that fire
Tumblr media
doctor strange x reader
synopsis: you have an unusual relationship with your mentor/boss, and when he asks you to be his date to an important awards ceremony, you can’t help but relish in his fire
a/n: stephen strange is so lana del rey coded omff, so heavy sad girl vibes. i haven’t proofread and it’s longer than any of my usual works i think.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
he always told you how much of a gift it was for him to choose you. it was always like that, he chose you, like some god. that he had made your life better by choosing to be in it. he repeated that to you whenever you became ‘insubordinate’.
you never really argued though. you knew that it wasn’t ever the right thing to do, especially with someone so arrogant, you’d be wasting a breath and your career if you did so.
but you learned to live with his narcissism, he was the best surgeon in new york, and arguably in the states. his credentials are why you’ve never argued back.
this day was not any different.
“i said that we should do the shunt.” stephen stared at the films. he was cross, had been since the morning and was now profoundly irritated but hadn’t stated why.
“you’ll kill him. think about it, what if we do another approach in a few days? give him enough recovery time so that when you actually do the surgery, he won’t die on the table.” you explained your decision, but stephen had already stopped listening. he was shaking his head, clearly none of this was going as he wanted.
“stephen-“ you closed your eyes, already preparing to apologize for undermining him, when he shushed you. “i-“ you scoffed but didn’t say anything else.
“we’ll do it tomorrow. it’ll be the first surgery of the day, i want it to go well.” he recycled your idea, and turned around with a nod, “get me dr. palmer. i want her to be in there.” he demanded.
you looked up from your notepad and raised your eyebrows, “you don’t want me in there?” you were his student, his resident, you were assigned to scrub in on all his surgeries-
“no. i want dr. palmer. that is final.” he stalked over to the door, pulling it open and letting it shut behind him without another word.
you couldn’t lie and say you were disappointed. you had hoped that after last night, that you and stephen had finally come to an understanding. but this had just proved that he wasn’t capable of listening. and that he was still hopelessly in love with christine.
“dr. l/n.” a nurse had stopped you as you walked around, moping about stephen kicking you off the surgery. she handed you some papers, “dr. strange has requested you in his office. and he needs to sign these papers for the patient in 203.” she smiled thinly, clearly making you do part of her job.
you shoved the papers back, and stalked off.
you had swiped a salad on your way to his office. you had learned from the first few times that stephen requesting you in his office was like attending a lecture, all about him. and you wouldn’t starve if you were going to be stuck there.
you knocked on the door once before pushing it open. stephen was sitting at his desk, an untouched piece of salmon and greens was in front of him. he didn’t even look up when you walked in.
“what’s up?” you set your salad down, including some of your patient files. you took the chair opposite of his, and cracked open your salad.
“i hate it when you speak like that.” his eyes remained glued to his computer screen.
you looked up, rolling your eyes, “one of the nurses said you requested me? might i inquire why or are we just going to stare at each other and pretend like last night didn’t happen?” you were angry.
he could tell.
your voice shook with a twinge of rage that only he could be the reason behind. it was always the same twinge, it was the same twinge earlier when he had requested christine for the surgery.
his eyes broke away from the screen for the first time since you had walked in. he stared at you, as if trying to calculate this moment in his head. he paused, silence taking the both of you as he stared into your eyes.
“i- i didn’t want to have to do this-“ stephen sighed, “we’re at work. when we’re working, i’m your boss, you are my resident. we can talk about us, later.” he sounded so professional that if you didn’t know him so well, you’d probably throw yourself on the floor and beg for forgiveness.
“just tell me why you picked her over me. that’s all i want to know.” you challenged, your eyes boring into his.
stephen scoffed, “i chose dr. palmer because she is a more experienced surgeon than you. you would just-“
“fuck it up?” you finished his sentence and rolled your eyes, “if you don’t have faith in me than that is a reflection on your abilities as a teacher, as my mentor.”
“no it is not. because if you actually did what you were told, you would be on your way to making an incredible surgeon. but you aren’t. you’d be mediocre at best.” his words cut hard. he hadn’t blinked, and you didn’t dare to look away.
it was weakness to look away. you had to be able to continue to stare him down, if he was going to listen to you.
“i do exactly as i am told. last night was the perfect example of that, wasn’t it, doctor?” you raised your eyebrows and incredibly, stephen broke the eye contact.
“get out.” he returned his gaze to the computer screen and you were taken aback.
“what-“
“i said get out. get your shit, and get the fuck out of my office.” stephen didn’t hesitate to yell at you, which made you want to cringe.
you stood up, sighing as you collected your things, you had almost made it out when you stopped, hand lingering on the doorknob, “this is why christine left you. you’re a fucking asshole, and no one will ever love you.” he had turned, but you had already left before he could yell anymore.
you knew you shouldn’t have slept with your boss. clearly, as you sat at home instead of scrubbing in on a surgery, that it wasn’t working out well.
you had left the hospital after your little outburst with stephen. your pager kept going off, but you had ignored it since they were all from, unsurprisingly, stephen. you tossed and turned in your bed, not having the energy to do anything else.
he had ruined you. he had ruined you from the moment you had entered the program.
but yesterday, he had really ruined you. he ruined whatever perfect balance the two of you had. you knew him, and he knew you, but now you were too involved, too emotionally attached.
you couldn’t even curb your jealously. it wasn’t about your abilities or her abilities, it was the fact that he wanted his ex-girlfriend to scrub in with him, and not you.
stephen stared at the wall. he had been staring at it since you left. assumingely, you had gone home. all of his pages went unanswered, and he knew that he had really, really fucked up.
there was a knock at the door and stephen turned, “come in.” he had hoped it was you, but he never had to welcome you in. you’d always just waltz in, carrying food and random case notes.
“i’ve been looking for your resident all day. i heard she’s the expert on the case?” dr. palmer had graced his office for the first time in a long time. stephen didn’t have the best poker face when it came to surprises, and he couldn’t hide this one.
“uh-“ he laughed slightly, blinking as he focused on her, “yeah she wasn’t feeling well today. she might’ve gone home but the case is at the nurses station.” he didn’t smile, he never did at her anymore.
christine nodded, “hey, stephen.. why did you ask me to scrub in with you? if you already have a perfectly capable resident-“
stephen shook his head, “i- i just wanted you there. i don’t know why- but,” he shrugged, “i cant trust residents, can i?”
christine laughed awkwardly, her attempt at trying to get out of this was already shot to the ground, so she just exited.
you wanted to quit. you had spent all night practicing how you’d do it. you were going to go to his office, set the resignation letter down on his desk and walk out without saying anything.
but you couldn’t even gather the courage to print your letter out. you had left the paper jammed in your printer, half inked, as you left to go to work.
“good morning.” stephen greeted you at the nurses station. it was time for the early mornings rounds. you nodded, but didn’t say anything as you walked off.
stephen chose to ignore the fact that you ignored him, and walked after you, “i am going to need any and all case notes on that patient today.”
you scoffed, “why? you never read any of my notes.” which was true. he always thought your notes were just annoying little scribbles.
“they’re for dr. palmer. she requested that she get any notes relevant to the surgery today.” he responded.
“oh, okay. i’ll drop it off at your office along with all the respect i have for you.” and you turned a corner, leaving him in the dust for rounds.
you were sitting in the cafeteria, head in your hands over your tray of food, you hadn’t even noticed the people gathering around your table.
“dude- long time no see.” you looked up to see one of your old friends that you had met during your internship, thalia. before all of this, before him.
you smiled, a real one in a long time, “we’re residents. we’re lucky if we even have clean underwear.” you joked. she smiled, “i heard you’ve been working closely with dr. strange. how is it? he’s got the hands of a god, you know.”
you blinked, almost happy to be able to get through a conversation that wasn’t plagued by stephen strange.
you blinked, hesitating with your words until it all came spilling out. “we slept together. multiple times.”
thalia’s jaw fell, practically hit the floor as she stared at you in disbelief.
“and we’re fighting right now so i’d really love it if we could just move on-“
“dr. l/n.” you turned at the sound of that voice, abruptly ending your conversation with your friend, you couldn’t hide the shock on your face to see stephen standing in front of you.
he never came to the cafeteria. he was always too good for it, and it was evident that even just his presence was shocking enough. all other conversations seemed to quiet down to complete silence.
“stephen-“
“you’re scrubbing in. dr. palmer has another surgery that will run late so-“
you nodded, “understood.”
your unwillingness to say anything more was evident, and stephen would not open that can of shit right in the middle of the cafeteria for all the underachievers to hear.
he nodded, leaving as quickly as he came.
you stared at his hands moving gracefully in the patient. he was a god, it was clear in his work, that’s why he was the way he was.
“suction.” you immediately brought down the tube in your hands, sucking at whatever he pointed at.
his glove caught on the tube, the air trying to suck up his finger. he pulled back, just as you pulled the tube away.
“oh my go-“ you stared at the tube, and turned back to stephen. he raised his eyebrows just as you dipped your head back to laugh.
stephen looked around at the rest of the staff but didn’t say anything as you finished laughing by yourself.
you let out a sigh, your laugh turned into a quiet chuckle, even as you met his eyes, you still couldn’t stifle it.
“i’m sorry.” you apologized, “that was unprofessional and it won’t happen again.” you blinked, head bowed as you waited.
but stephen didn’t say anything, he looked up to stare at you once before going back to work.
stephen asked you to meet him in his office after the surgery. you had to practically throw yourself up each step to get to his office, exhaustion weighing heavy on your bones.
you didn’t even bother to knock this time, you just pushed the door open and dragged yourself in. stephen was sitting at his desk, but he had the case files in his hands.
he looked up once he saw you, and you took a seat across his desk. “you wanted to see me?”
stephen nodded, throwing down the case files, “this is good stuff.”
you blinked. hardly did stephen ever freely give compliments. you had thought you were the worst resident until he had called you “okay” once during an assistive surgery. another surgeon had said that meant you were good.
clearly stephen knew what you were thinking, and he grimaced, “christine suggested i read them.” you hummed in acknowledgment, “and she also told me to apologize.”
you looked at him expectantly, eyebrows raised.
“i am sorry for not calling you, or texting you after..” he mumbled off, “and im sorry for kicking you out of my office, it was rude and i am so-“ he faltered and you sighed, standing up.
he watched as you strode over to his side of the desk, hips swaying in your tight scrub pants. your hand gripped the leather of his desk chair, pulling it back as you positioned yourself on his lap.
stephen watched you carefully, watched as you dragged a finger across his cheek, smiling coyly, “i accept your apology, stephen.” you hummed again, “and i am sorry for what i said.”
stephen held your hips, his large hands tightening around them so you wouldn’t fall. “it’s okay. it’s okay.” he assured you, hands moving to caress your neck, he planted a kiss on your collarbone, just underneath your scrub top.
you shivered at the contact, but you were eager for more. stephen was hardly affectionate, especially at work. it made you wonder how it all even happened in the first place, as he was always so clipped with you.
stephen kissed your neck, sucking hard on the skin that you were sure they’d bruise.
“come away with me.” he whispered, “put on a slutty little dress and come away with me tonight.” he gripped hard on your hips, and you laughed, “what? where?” you were surprised he hadn’t mentioned anything about a trip to you.
“i was nominated for an award in california. the ceremony is tonight and i was hoping that you would accompany me.” he didn’t smile, but there was a hint of one.
“publicly?” you drew your brows together, hand on his shoulder as you looked into his eyes.
“well- people would only assume that we work together. but yes, publicly.” he nodded, and you felt your stomach drop to your ass.
“uh-“ you scoffed, “yeah. sure, i’ll go.” you couldn’t hide your hesitation. the last person that stephen ‘worked’ with was christine, and people would notice.
stephen nodded, “okay. i’ll see you tonight, kid.” his lips brushed past yours as he planted a kiss on your cheek. “tease.” you commented, gripping his shoulder as you hopped off his lap.
“i’m the tease?” he grabbed your wrist and you looked at the tent in his pants. a laugh escaped you, even as you strutted out of his office.
waiting was unbearable. you found yourself glancing over to the clock hoping hours would roll by until it finally did, and you were gathering your things to head home and prepare.
stephen said that he had arranged a private flight to california, and that he and a driver would be at your apartment by 8.
“are you out of here?” thalia, standing at the end of the hallway, broke you out of your thoughts, “i heard you’re going with strange to that ceremony?” you nodded, as you met her at the end, you couldn’t hide your smile.
she nudged you, smiling, “aw im so happy for you. especially after we all thought dr. palmer would go with him.”
your smile fell immediately and you stepped back, “what? why would you think that?”
thalia shrugged, “because he asked her. i heard them in the attendings lounge, when i had gone to find my-“ she continued to ramble on but you had stopped listening. you walked past her and slammed the double doors open. she called your name, but you were already in the wind.
all you could do was practically run out of the hospital, dashing past the front desk and out the doors. you panted, feeling the ache of a sob in your chest. you walked now, breaking down in tears on the way to your car.
how could he have asked her, before he asked you?
you realized you couldn’t go home now. stephen would be there soon to pick you up, to take you to an event that you weren’t supposed to be at.
stephen paced the apartment lobby. your doorman said that he hadn’t seen you since the previous morning. your car hadn’t been parked in its designated spot either, evident of your absence.
“fuck..” stephen muttered, his fingers breezing on the screen as he tried to call you. thing was, you always called him, never the other way around so he couldn’t remember the numbers to even dial.
he scrolled through his call list but it was a sea of unknown numbers, and stephen didn’t remember the last time you called.
stephen walked back up to the doorman, “can i go look in her apartment?” the doorman raised his eyebrows and stephen sighed, “i’m her bo-“ he paused, unsure of what to call himself, he grimaced, “i am her colleague. i just-“
the doorman nodded, there was a look on his face as he looked at stephen up and down, “yeah..i know who you are.” as he spoke stephen realized that it was disdain that this doorman held for him.
but as the doorman let stephen up, he didn’t even care how you talked about him, it was that you talked about him at all.
the apartment was messy. of course it was. you were a fifth year resident who clocked in more hours at the hospital than all the combined time spent at home. but it wasn’t dirty messy, it was a barely moved in, hadn’t had time to unpack messy. the stack of broken down boxes in the corner was evident. he pursed his lips at the sight, but continued in.
your bedroom was close, he could see the edge of a mattress through a cracked door. it was barren, besides the bed and dresser, it was filled with packing peanuts and a box of hospital scrubs. he hummed, stepping out and deciding to check out the next room.
he pushed the door open, revealing a very organized office space. there was a long desk along the wall, a chalk board took up the entirety of another wall, medical scrawl was all over it. pictures of anatomy were hung up, including unknown jars of specimen.
stephen was more than intrigued, he was impressed. the rest of your apartment was messy, barely lived in, but your work was your life, and your office was clear of that.
he trailed towards the desk, a dim light shone from your desktop, and he nudged the computer mouse to turn it on.
dear stephen,
i am writing to formally tender my resignation as a fifth year resident under your tutelage…
there was a mix of worry in his mind that he hadn’t felt in a long time. the rest of the letter was just professional bullshit on your decision to leave him. you weren’t leaving the hospital, you were leaving him.
but he had to get the truth.
it had been hours since the award ceremony. hours since it would’ve started at least, looking at the clock, you knew that it was time to return home.
stephen probably didn’t even make it to your house, since you hadn’t received a single call. the area you had gone to, outside of the city, still got decent cell service, so you knew he didn’t even try.
you no longer felt the rage of being overlooked in your career and in your relationship, all you felt was the regret of believing him. you tightly gripped your steering wheel, and silently drove back home.
stephen waited silently. he had looked through your pantry, trying to find something to snack on until your arrival; he knew he’d be there all night.
but didn’t take anything, deciding that he wasn’t even hungry, just restless and angry, and as soon as he heard keys jingle at the door, he stood up.
“stephen.” you were breathless, your hand was clutching hard on your doorknob as your bag hit the floor. it landed upright, but you pushed it to the side with your foot. stephen didn’t move, watching as you cautiously stepped forward.
“what- what are you doing here?” you swallowed thickly, hands feeling clammy against the rough fabric of your hospital scrubs. you looked at him up and down, eyes lingering on his sharp suit, hands positioned at his side. “i’ve been waiting for you.”
you nodded, “i’m sorry if you missed the award-“ you felt your voice shake, afraid of how this confrontation would proceed. you kept your eyes glued to the floor, afraid to look again into his striking face.
“you think this is about that?” he scoffed incredulously, his eyes narrowing at you. you could just feel the edge in his voice, it was the same edge that had haunted you nearly all of your residency.
he took your silence for shame, and continued, “i found your letter. when were you planning to hand it in? hmm? after you assisted on a major surgery or after i was presented with an award with you by my side-“ it was your turn to scoff. you looked up, walking towards him at a speed that had you now nose to nose.
“you think that i’m proud of being second choice?” your voice broke, and you sighed, knowing just exactly how this would end. stephen’s face fell, and he looked speechless at your emotion.
you inhaled a breath, trying to calm yourself down as you fought to say your piece. “i- i had to hear from thalia, of all people, that you had originally asked christine to be your date tonight.” you felt a tear fall down your cheek, “you come in here, into my apartment, look through my things and accuse me of what? riding your success?” you spat, your voice still wavered, but you carried on, “i’ve had to be second to the greatest love of your life. and i will not continue to be.” you sniffled, looking at stephen right in the eye, “i quit. i don’t ever want to see you or that fucking hospital again.”
stephen was absolutely wordless. he didn’t even know what to do with it, and as he watched you strut down the hallway to your bedroom, he found himself following you.
you sniffled, and noticed he was right on your trail, “get out, stephen. get-“
he stayed firmly planted, and instead raised his eyebrows, “christine is not the greatest love of my life- i thought she was.” you rolled your eyes, not wanting to hear his speech, “until i met you. and i’ve been selfish. i’ve been keeping you from your potential. so you should quit, be a better surgeon under someone who-“ he faltered, and his features softened, “who doesn’t love you.”
you felt your face get hot as you tried to speak. stephen strange just told you he loved you…
“it’s okay.” he stepped forward and you found yourself stepping into his embrace. he kissed your forehead, “it’s okay.” he repeated, assuring that it in fact, was okay.
as bittersweet the moment was, you had to release all of the truth, even if you knew it would only hurt him more.
“i love you, too.” you whispered, hands gathering up his suit fabric, gripping it tightly you didn’t want to let go. but he didn’t say anything, the two of you continued to hug until you practically fell asleep in his arms.

Just Hold Me
Pairing: Sinister Stephen Strange x Reader
Summary: Something is wrong. You are acting odd & all Stephen wants to do is help you feel better
Warnings: Not much, light angst & references to potential depression. Fluffy ending. Sinister being the most loving devoted boy ever even if he doubts himself.
Totally a self-comfort piece. I've been feeling sad & this is what I want right now.
Tumblr media
He wasn't used to seeing you this way. In fact, in all the time you had been in his universe, he had never seen you like this before. The light was missing from your eyes. You weren't crying, but your normal sunny disposition was nowhere to be found.
Your face was a blank slate. You didn't seem angry or outright upset, but your smile was nowhere to be seen. Even when he put on your favorite show, you weren't smiling and giggling like you normally would. It was breaking his heart.
You had always been the sunshine to his dark storm cloud self. You brightened his day and cleared away the gloom and cobwebs that had invaded his mind for years. He hoped that he hadn't somehow accidentally extinguished that fire and light that made you so enchanting. That was something he knew he would never forgive himself for.
Even the weather outside had shifted with your personality. The cracks of sunlight that had started illuminating the barren land below, lulling it back to life, had dimmed. Storm clouds and low rumbles of thunder followed in the next few days. By the third day, it had begun steadily drizzling on and off all day.
Perhaps you wanted to leave but didn't know how to tell him. He was sure he would die if you did leave, but he wouldn't keep you there if you were no longer happy in his world. Or with him. Maybe you decided you couldn't love a monster like him anymore. He wouldn't blame you.
He found you sitting in your shared bed, bundled up in blankets, and just staring out the window. Watching the raindrops pitter patter against the window. Your hair hadn't been brushed in a day or two, and you were still in the shirt you slept in.
"I know you have said nothing is wrong, but I know you are lying, my love. You can tell me if you want to leave. If you aren't happy with me anymore. If you have changed your mind about us. Or if I have done something to hurt you. I will make it right in any way that I can. Even if it means losing you. Your happiness is the most important thing in the multiverse to me."
Your heart ached that you made him question your love for him. That had never even been a thought in your mind. You loved Stephen unconditionally. In fact, even you couldn't pinpoint what you were feeling or why you were feeling so withdrawn. You couldn't stand to see his eyes looking like a scolded puppy, and you immediately wanted him to be near you.
"Oh, Stephen. Come here.
You unwrapped yourself from the blankets and patted the spot next to you on the bed. Wanting him to join you in your blanket cocoon.
"You haven't done anything to hurt me, and I definitely haven't changed my mind about us. I love you more than anything, Stephen. I'm just feeling really down, and I don't know why. It's stupid, and there's no real reason why that I can think of. I didn't want to bring your mood down with me, but I guess that didn't really work, huh?"
He had brought himself to sit in the bed next to you. Not wanting to touch you until you gave him permission, but he grabbed one of your hands in his as you wiped away a couple of stray tears with the other.
"Trust me, darling. I have been to the depths of despair, and nothing you could say could bring me down. Not as long as you are here and you let me help you. Now, what do you need? Do you want anything to drink or eat? I can get you some more blankets to snuggle in. I can put on one of your favorite movies. I can leave you alone if you want me to, but I'd rather be here if you'll let me. Even if we just sit here in silence."
Your heart warmed at the honesty in his eyes and in his voice. You had never met a man quite like him. One who had seen and felt so much in his life. Had his world ripped apart in front of him, and yet all he wanted was to make you feel better. Even just having him next to you now made you feel a little less sad. A hint of a smile pulled at your lips for the first time in days.
"Can you just hold me, please, Stephen? I just want to lay here and listen to the storm and have you hold me tight. I don't really know what's wrong with me right now, but you feel right to me."
He smiled at your request. He was so hoping that you would let him hold you. He knew that having you in his arms was always what made him feel better when the dark thoughts and lingering voices from the Darkhild threatened to overtake his mind.
"Of course darling. All you ever have to do is ask."
With that, he snuggled down under the covers and held you tight. Spooning you from behind and making sure his body touched yours as much as he possibly could before using his magic to pull the soft fluffy blankets up around both of you. Restoring your little cocoon you had made with both of you inside it now. Your hand quickly found its place over his, and your body wiggled to get even closer.
He pressed a couple of soft, comforting kisses to your shoulder once you had found your comfortable spot. His heart fluttered a little when he heard you sigh and felt you relax into his arms. Letting your body melt into his.
You stayed like this for what had to be hours. It didn't matter to him how long he stayed there. He wasn't going to let you go until you told him to. He would hold you until the universe collapsed around you both if you asked him to. His reason for living was to be the mooring that held you steady in both calm and stormy seas.
He knew you were on the verge of sleep by the way your breath pattern changed. It was only then that he let his own guard down and let himself begin to drift with you. Then, in the smallest and sweetest tone, he heard you whisper. It was barely audible.
"Thank you, Stephen. I love you."
He smiled softly to himself. Nudging his nose into your hair to get closer to you still. Whispering back into your ear, the truest words he had ever spoken in his life.
"I love you too, darling. Always and with all of my being. Though good and bad."

Glimpse of Us
Summary: Years after the faithful night, reality brings the two back together, with all the years of unresolved pain, feelings and comparisons
Warning: Angst is all the warning I can think off ehehhe, Hard core Angst
Note: ehehehehe the long awaited sequel to She use to be mine is finally here! After what? nearly 2 years. its finally here! I'm so sorry for the long wait and thank you to those who encouraged me to continue on with the next part. I won't dawdle on and let you lot enjoy the concoction i seem to have mustered on. ehehe again sorry for the months delay.
oh and i almost forgot, the italics are best imagined as her singing
P.S. I drafted this post 7 or 8 months after the first part and dear god, how time has passed. Looking back at the story, I'm not really too proud of this one and ended it because I really have no idea how to continue it. I have an idea for a next part (dangerous words coming from me) but I'm not gonna set a date for when I post it because we all know how the last part turned out. Anyways enjoy
😊❤️💛💚💙💜🖤😊 -T
Tumblr media
‘Hey, you’re up in five’`
‘Yah sure, just touching up’ you say as you smacked your lips after applying a bit of lip gloss.
‘You don’t need it’ he replied.
‘Still. I can’t believe I agreed to this’ you scoffed, fiddling with your hair for the hundredth time.
‘You’ll do great’ he smiled ‘Now your hair is fine, you look amazing, and I have to go. Break a leg’ he bid before getting on stage to rouse the crowd. Admittedly, you are nervous. You wouldn’t call yourself a singer, but you do have a good enough voice and can hold a tune. You knew it was a mistake singing in front of Harvey and you were only doing this as a favor. God. You checked the mirror one last time before finding it was good enough.
‘Now for tonight’s performance, A very dear friend of mine has agreed to perform tonight, though with a little bit of persuasion.’ Harvey mumbled the last part, getting a laugh from the crowd and a chuckle from yourself ‘She has a voice made by the gods above, though I don’t remember Thor being much of a singer. She can lure you in better than a siren, but I think that’s the other mythology’ he said cheekily.
‘Now, without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome a dear friend of mine, Y/N Y/L/N!’ he introduced, that being your cue to emerge from the curtain, you stepped on staged and made your way over to the middle where he and the mic was, the spotlight following your movement. You waved and smiled at the crowd, glad there wasn’t much. Grasping the mic, you chuckled as the small crowd continued to clap.
‘Hi everybody’ you began, getting a hello in response from the crowd ‘Wow, thank you for the warm welcome and thank you Harvey for that unrealistic introduction’ you chuckled with the crowd, turning to Harvey who waved you off.
‘Now, taking something off of Harvey’s speech, I am made by no god or am one. Nor am I a siren from the Greek mythology. It did take some persuading to get me to do this and hopefully I don’t regret it.’ You laughed sheepishly.
‘I don’t normally sing on stage or in public really unless it’s karaoke with friends, which by the way is how I got tricked into doing this, so pardon me if I seem a bit nervous’ you smile shyly. Glancing back at Harvey, with a smile on his face, he nodded, pushing you to continue. Pulling out the rest of the confidence you still had stored, you turned back beaming at the crowd.
‘Now to not keep you waiting any longer, Paul if you will’ you gestured to the man on the piano and he nods before gliding his fingers along the keys, playing the start of the song. Letting out a breath, you closed your eyes, feeling the rhythm of the piano before singing the lyrics. Grabbing hold of the mic, you opened your eyes and began.
He'd take the world off my shoulders
If it was ever hard to move
He'd turn the rain to a rainbow
When I was living in the blue
You let your eyes flutter to a close as you gripped the mic firmly. Swaying your body occasionally to melody.
Why then if he is so perfect
Do I still wish that it was you?
Perfect don't mean that it's working
So what can I do? Ooh
Opening your eyes, you scanned the crowd, completely surprised by how the much you can see of the crowd seemed entranced.
When you’re out of sight
You saw you’re your friends in a booth over on the corner, the people entering the establishment.
In my mind
Then the bar where you found him, staring at you. You locked eyes with those beautiful ocean blue orbs that you love loved so much. Stumbling over your words, you nearly forgot about the song but once the piano keys hit the right note, your lips continued in autopilot.
Cause sometimes I look… in his eyes
And that's where I find
A glimpse of us
Eyes leaving contact, you scanned his entirety. The grey streaks at his temples have grown longer since the last time you saw him. The old clean-shaven face he used to don had a goatee. Prominent lines and creases were evident in his features and really the years have aged him well. He wore a suit, complete with a vest, a red handkerchief in the breast pocket and everything. A glass of whiskey at his side and he was still as handsome as the day you left.
You closed your eyes once more, willing this to just be another trick or hallucination by your imagination. Though it was a horrid idea as memories of the day came back crashing onto you, you let them stay shut as you continued.
And I try to fall for his touch
But I'm thinking of the way it was
There you stood, as beautiful as the day he met you, if not more. In all your beauty, and the signature grin you adorned, you were radiant. Though the spotlight might have something to do with it, you were still a ray of sunshine through the darkest of clouds.
The rest of the world faded out to him and his mind finally faltered. There you were. Standing a few feet away as you introduced yourself. Your hair’s cut short, or at least shorter than the last time he’d seen you. Earrings hid behind your curls and the lightest bit of make-up was applied to your soft features. Though that didn’t hide the blossoming pink tint gracing your cheeks. Your lips glistened with the lip gloss you had on just like you use to. Smile lines drew at the corner of your eyes as you chuckled over your own words, explaining how you ended up in your current situation.
You always smiled, even when you were feeling down, you always smiled. Whether to hide what you were truly feeling or to just be nice to people, you always smiled. He nearly forgot how beautiful that smile was, with only his dreams used to recall that charming grin, since it has been a rarity for him to look you up or even open the box full of pictures during your years together. Even with the picture he kept in his nightstand, he rarely opened the drawer. Funny how this photographic memory of his nearly forgot the most beautiful piece of art he’s ever seen.
He listened to every single word you uttered as he looked and committed every single detail he could of you to memory. Your hair curled into soft waves, parted and pinned on one side. Your frame, fuller since the last time he saw your thin, nearly skeletal figure on that fateful night. You wore a wine-red wrap top that reached down to your wrists, paired with simple jeans and boots, you looked divine. The dip in the neckline of your shirt revealed the top of your cleavage but the gleaming gold necklace is what caught his attention. It was a simple gold bar plate though engraved with a heartbeat on one side. Common and a bit of a cliché now adays but what was special about that was it was an actual heartbeat. His. He gifted it to you when you both got accepted at Metro General. He explained that it was how his heart beat whenever he thought of you. As you tried to find the words to thank him, he made you turn it over to the other side to another engraving. You know I love you so, it said. A line from one of your favorite songs. He remembered how tears brimmed your eyes as you leaped to him, capturing his lip with yours.
What came as a shock to him now was that you were still wearing it. As he continued to look you over, the sound of your chuckle registered in his ears. God, he loves that sound. A sound he hasn’t heard long before you left. Looking back up to your face, he sees the girl he met all those years ago, buried under piles of books in the library on campus. The very same girl that chuckled at his horrible attempt at a flirtatious first introduction. A small smile tugged at his lips both at the memory and the sound. He hasn’t heard that sound in so long, it was a wonder when he heard it last. He just knew it was long before he fucked up and just chose to relish in the sweet sound now.
Now focusing and giving his undivided attention to your voice now, he listened.
‘I don’t normally sing on stage or in public really unless it’s karaoke with friends, which by the way is how I got tricked into doing this, so pardon me if I seem a bit nervous’ you laugh timidly. A chuckle bubbled at his throat as flashes of you singing whilst cooking in the kitchen of your tiny apartment came into view. Wearing nothing but his shirt as you flipped pancakes, singing from Coldplay to Queen at the top of your lungs or humming to Ed Sheeran whilst you worked and studied case filles.
He knew you enough to know that you were nervous, you didn’t have to say it. After all these years he still knew you better than the back of his scarred hands, heck better than he knows himself.
He saw you look to the side and his eyes followed, landing on the host from earlier. With a smile on his face, he nodded, giving you the reassurance you needed to continue with your performance. And it did, he saw how you pulled the last of your confidence before turning back to the crowd.
A pang of jealousy shot through him as he watched. I mean what did he expect, for you to be alone after all these years. A stupidly selfish part of him even hoped that you’d be waiting for him. To get his act together and you’d be back together. It was incredibly stupid; he knew that but that didn’t stop the creeping grip of jealousy from grasping his heart. As much as he knew how selfish the thought is, that didn’t stop the pain and hurt he felt seeing you look for reassurance in another man. Even after all these years.
The smile he had drawn up earlier had faded to a look of melancholy. It was good you had someone, he thought. Someone to be there for whenever you needed them the most, unlike him.
He watched as you turned and gestured to the pianist who nodded and started to fiddle with the keys. He watched as you took a breath, closed your eyes and began to sway to the smooth melody of the music. A small grin was itching at your lips. You were always more comfortable whenever listening to music and this was evident, unbeknownst to you.
Then you started to sing. You opened your eyes, took a firm grip at the mic and the lyrics just came dripping smoothly from your lips. That melodic voice of yours that he loves so much reminded him of the early mornings in the kitchen, the concerts in the shower and the lullabies to the kids under your care. Little did you know but the sound of your sweet voice always comforted him during the hardest times. He didn’t ask you to sing directly but he always listened whenever you hummed a simple tune or sang a song from some Disney movie to calm the kids in peds ward.
He took in every word that came from your lips. From what he’s heard so far from the first verse, it was about how the man lightened and took away the burden and sorrows the singer felt. The way you sang the song, it was beautiful. It was as if you were truly meaning the words that left your lips and he couldn’t help but feel the envy creeping back up at him, though at the same time, he’s conflicted with relief. He didn’t know if you’ve had someone during the past couple of years but as hurt as he is at the prospect of you with somebody else, it sort of gave him a sense of comfort thinking that you were getting taken care off. It eased some of the weight he felt and often times he thought maybe it was good that you separated. All he'd done with you the last few months of your relationship was hurt and neglect you and if you ever found someone that remedied that, maybe it was for the best that you left.
He watched your eyes flutter to a close again. The way your body moved to the melody of the music completely hypnotized him that his drink was deemed long forgotten.
Why then if he is so perfect, Do I still wish that it was you?
At those words, for some reason that gave him hope. He didn’t know if it was just the song but really, just the way you sang it made it seem all too genuine. He still loves you; he knew that very well. He also knows that he had a better chance in coming up with a new strategy in defeating Thanos (despite the many but one failed attempts he saw using the time stone), than ever getting back in a relationship with you.
You are the most kind, caring and understanding person he knew but you were also stubborn. He might have the chance in getting to apologize and to ask for forgiveness, but a relationship was a billion to one cosmic fluke. Though that didn’t stop him from wondering if you meant those words.
You opened your eyes and continued with the song. He noticed you looking at the growing mass of people watching. From the corner booths to the door, he knew from that growing look at your face that you were surprised to say the least at how many were captivated by your performance.
Then you met his gaze. Those soft blues meeting that beautiful shade of your own eyes. God, how much he loved those shining y/e/c orbs could never be put into words. How they twinkle in the light. The comfort and understanding they held and how they always seem to know he felt.
When he woke up from the crash, the first thing he longed to find were your eyes. The warmth, comfort and security they held, he ached to see those beautiful orbs because for the briefest moments he forgot everything but you. You were his main thought. He forgot about the fight, the neglectful months before, the pale, emaciated figure of yours that haunts his dreams, everything. Only the kind, gorgeous face of the woman he fell for all those years ago stayed in his mind because whenever he thought of comfort, the only thing that formed in his head was, no… is you.
He was hurt, in pain, his body ached, he could barely see let alone open his eyes. He needed comfort, he needed you. But when was life ever nice.
Instead, he was met with the fluorescent lights of the hospital room and the horrific sight of the mangled hands that once led a successful career in medicine. There was no warming gaze to be greeted with, only the sad sympathetic ones he now knows to be from the wrong woman and a cold, sterile room.
Cause sometimes I look… in his eyes
You stumbled over your words as you continued to look at each other. You continued singing but your eyes were locked together. Neither of you could look away. Your mouth moved on autopilot as your eyes lost the spark of a flame you had earlier, just like that night all those years ago, replaced by a reflection of the pain and grief he caused. The very same one that haunts his dreams.
A glimpse of us
You finished, your voice fading as the lyrics came to an end. As soon as the piano tuned out, you smiled and gave a little bow at the crowd who erupted in applause before leaving the stage in a hurry. Welled up tears spilled down warm cheeks as emotions and memories continued to riot your mind. After all these years he still managed to make you cry. Why can’t you move on?
You were quick on getting your belongings from the small prep area behind the stage however your plans of a speedy getaway were quickly ousted by the very same gentleman that perpetrated this whole ordeal.
‘You were amazing! The emotion you put in the performance…’ He continued to ramble on, looking past the curtain and to the roaring crowd cheering on for an encore, completely oblivious of his friend’s distraught state. ‘I mean the teary eyes, come on. Doctoring ever not work for you, acting could be something to con…’ he paused after finally getting a glimpse of you, swiftly wiping away tear streaks that ran down your cheeks but the growing redness in your eyes were dead give aways. ‘Shit’ finally piecing things together, he cursed, his attention fully set on you now. ‘It was real. Fuck, are you okay?’ he asked, finding it difficult figuring out what to do, yet a hint of urgency too as he still had to go back on stage.
‘Yeah, yeah, I’m fine.’ You swallowed, lying through your teeth. ‘I just… have to go’ you mumbled quickly, giving him a grin in hopes to resemble something as composed as the friend he knew. Though he knew you enough to know you were not ‘fine’, with great reluctance he let you go, rushing to the stage shortly after exchanging goodbyes and promising to check with him later.
As your friend went back on stage, you quickly took a survey of your appearance on a nearby mirror, making sure you didn’t look as dreadful as you felt. The bit of makeup you had on survived, however your eyes weren’t as forgiving being red. Nevertheless, you sped out to leave.
Considering your options, your only available exits were the front or back door and wanting to avoid individual who has left you in this state (just by being present), you turned to the corridor that lead to the back door but as unfortunate as you were, the exit was blocked by men hauling in delivery shipments and by the looks of things they weren’t going to be done any time soon.
You were antsy enough as it was and waiting by the second for them just added to your agitation. You really needed to leave now.  A lump was lodging itself on your throat and the air around you seemed to be thinning. You need to leave NOW.
Swallowing all the anxieties you had, you had no choice but to rush out the front. You stayed on the side, avoiding the patrons and the one in particular perched up at the bar but unlucky you (your luck really seemed to have vanished really), the man saw your abrupt departure, unbeknownst to you.
You made it out to the street and the open air was a fresh welcome, letting you finally breath, whereas the establishment you had left felt suffocating.
You thought it was done. That the lump in your throat would finally dissolve as you walked down the street, thinking that you had successfully avoided the now famed sorcerer of New York. The hero, Doctor Strange…
but when was life ever good to you.
‘y/n…’ he breathed out, catching the sight of you sprinting toward the doors he entered only moments before. It pulled him out of his reverie, wondering if he should talk to you, what he’d talk to you about, an apology perhaps, contemplation of your years together, however the sight of you pulled him out like it always did, especially in the beginning. He sometimes had the tendency to be too deep in thought, he’d ignore everything and everyone in his surroundings, but he always caught you. Your scent, your voice, let alone your image, it always drew him from his stupor.
Now the sight of you cemented his thoughts.
Downing the last of his drink, he pulled a bill from his wallet and slammed it down the counter without so much as a look onto how much it was before he scurried out, chasing after you. (Like he should have done all those years ago)
He called out your name once he reached the sidewalk, turning left and right in search for you. The street wasn’t crowded much so it was easy to spot the figure stood still a few yards away to his right. With the last few rays of the dying sun and dim streetlight, he made out the curled head of hair the same shade as yours the figure had, and he just knew it was you.
‘Y/N!’ he nearly shouted, causing a few heads to turn in his direction but not yours. You kept your back to him as he sprinted your way. He knew you heard him. You would have kept on walking had you not.
It only took a second to reach you and when he did, he hesitated, not knowing what to do. He wanted to reach for you and plead for forgiveness. On his knees if he had to. Instead, he opted for another call for your name, hoping you’d finally face him.
And you did, after dropping your hands to your side, he heard a small sniff before you turned to him with your gorgeous smile and said (in a somewhat forced cheer in your voice)
‘Stephen. Hi’
‘Hi’ he replied densely. You idiot, he thought at how stupid his response was.
A silence fell over you both as Stephen canvassed your entirety now at a closer distance. He took in every graceful line, freckle and strand of hair he saw to memory. Every little detail he took in was as important as every breath he took. How bloodshot your eyes were didn’t go unnoticed though. Puffy around the eyelids from crying, red possibly from -he guessed- how hard you were rubbing them just before he reached you.
Surprising thing is, it still broke his heart seeing the distress you so clearly were trying to hide. The thought of tears running down your cheeks, was illegal. They had no business in gracing your face yet, he can’t help but realize that he just keeps being the reason you were left in that state. Where were all these sympathies back then? He asked himself, the very night flashing through his mind.
‘Stephen’ you said again, taking him out of head again. He missed that though. His name coming off your lips. It brought him back to all the mornings with you in bed, tangled in sheets as the morning glory woke you up and you woke him up with that honey sweet voice with the say of his name. Stephen
‘Sorry, um…’ he coughed, trying to piece a sentence, words, anything really that didn’t end in three syllables.
‘You were wonderful’ he finally managed, okay that’s five ‘Back there at the bar…. you were amazing’ like always, he wanted to add but stopped himself, pointing back to where he just left.
‘Thank you’ you muttered, nodding your head before leaving it down to look at your shoes. The way you responded lacked any sort of confidence, as if you didn’t believe his words or yourself. Truthfully, you were never really the most confident, even back then but always did step up when the situation needed. Either that’s the reason or you didn’t believe him, which considering his case, why should you.
Your hands were fidgeting, he noticed. Running and marking the bones of one hand with your fingers tips before your nails would start to pick on skin. This was something new to him. A new nervous habit of yours he hadn’t known before, so it was most likely picked up after your separation.
The person in front of him wasn’t the same one he knew all those years ago yet, still so similar and the same. He remembers everything about you, so if anything of the woman he knew back then was still in there, he knew by how you were acting that you were uncomfortable, agitated.
‘Really, you were amazing’ he affirmed, really wanting you to believe him, or at least to believe how wonderful you really are. ‘Truly, but are you okay?’
He’d done it. Ask that stupid question and that’s what broke the dam, causing the river to run past it with no mercy.
He heard a laugh at first, your hand raising towards your face. The sound bordered on maniacal, nothing like the one he loved but familiar enough to know he has heard it before. Slowly, your head rose, your hand half covering your mouth, half wiping away the rivers that flowed down your cheeks. The sight finally triggered the memory he was looking for. It was all too similar to that night, it felt like déjà vu.
‘um’ you started, finally managing to say after that little fit ‘I could lie but what’s the point? No. I’m not. I’m not okay because you’re here. Fuck, I actually thought that I could get away from this but no, evidently not.’ You tried to reason, looking him straight in the eyes ‘Christ Stephen, I was okay. I was okay when I was singing, I was okay ten minutes ago but then you just came out of no where and now I’m not okay. I’m never okay whenever it comes to you. Not anymore.’ You spit like venom, unrelenting in your streak to get out all your pain because of him. ‘I thought I could be civil but… I-I’m tired. I’m sorry, I’m gonna go. Enjoy your night’ you hurried, saying your goodbyes and turning your back to him to walk away. You would have gone had he not called you back in such a pleading tone.
‘please’ he begs and for some reason and it compels you to listen. You halt your steps, you don’t turn around, but you do wipe away your tears and he takes that as his chance to apologize for everything.
‘I’m sorry.’  He starts, his own eyes teary ‘I’m sorry for everything. You didn’t deserve what I did to you and it…’ he swallows that lump in his throat, trying to get the rest of his words out ‘it haunts me every day. You’re the kindest person I know, and I took you for granted. I was an arrogant piece of shit, too self-absorbed to even notice that the woman I love was working herself to death.’ You start to turn around ’You were the purest thing I knew and you didn’t deserve the monster I was. And I am so sorry for who I was then. I’ve changed or I’m trying to change, to be better than- than that monster that hurt you and I could only hope for your forgiveness because, you were always someone I never wanted to lose, and I did. By a stupid mistake and horrible decisions.’ His tears start to run, and you finally face him ‘I never wanted to let you go but I was hurting you more than I was loving you and I understand if I don’t get your forgiveness but, I am sorry. I am so sorry for hurting you. For taking you for granted. For not treating you how you deserved to be treated. For everything. You didn’t deserve what I did to you and hearing myself admit this… really just proves I don’t deserve your forgiveness, but I need you to know that I am sorry. I’m really sorry for what I did and that… that you deserve.’
You stare at him with tears running down both your eyes and he sees the same urge to wipe them away, in you. The hesitant twitch of your arm as if by instinct, to move and act on the need to clear away his tears and comfort him. At least that’s what he interprets the move of your arm because that’s exactly what you would have done, that’s exactly your character and he wants to do the same. To dry away your tears and take you in his arms in respite.
But you act against those thoughts, only balling your fist as some form of control. You stare into him, as if gauging to find the lie in his words yet there is none and he sees something in your eyes that he can’t explain before they dart away. He watches as you scan your surroundings, looking at the people likely to be watching you both but he didn’t care for them. He only cared about you.
When your eyes turned back to him, you closed them immediately, face scrunching as you desperately tried to hold back to tears but to him, it was as if you were so pained by the mere sight of him. He’d be lying if he said that it didn’t chip away a piece of his heart.
Your head bowed for a bit as you tried to compose yourself but the words that left your lips once you rose again, only broke more of his heart.
‘You’re forgiven’ you were quick to say before turning back and walking away from him. He watched with wet cheeks, as you sped away from him, and he kept his gaze on you until you disappeared around the corner and then you were gone.
For what seemed like forever, he kept his eyes on that street corner, hoping for something that won’t happen. He knew that whatever he wanted wasn’t going to happen, but a man could hope, right? Though hopes are as easy to diminish as they are to ignite. Grief and disappointment, they tend to last.
The sun had set and streetlights and buildings are all that lit the side walk where Stephen stood. A man well known to the people and thus, there were those who were bound to watch the spectacle put on by the hero. Small crowds had formed over time as they watched the powerful sorcerer confess to the dreadful things he’s done to some doctor from before his fame, asking for forgiveness to all the terrible things he’s done.
To new passersby, they’d wonder why a hero of the city stood so stiff, looking at oblivion. They’d wonder for a minute without context before walking away with a shrug, figuring much more important things to think of.
Eventually, the crowd thinned to a trickle, til the lone man was all that remained the lone street, wondering what he had done to deserve you.
A/U: I've read this way too much to do a final proof read so sorry for all the grammatical mistakes and spellings and all that. Thanks for the read though
I'm hoping that the people who asked to be tagged don't mind me tagging them this late in the game and I hope you liked it. Hopefully it was worth the wait @strangesweetheart @evelynrosestuff @vesta-ro @doodle-cat16 @nabiilahadid @evansmusk @circe143 @dracoflaco

Haunted House - Stephen Strange
Authors Note: HAPPY HALLOWEEN
Word Count: 1,286
Warnings: illusions to smut
Description: Small halloween blurb.
This is apart of my Halloween event, stay tuned for a new story every hour!
Tumblr media
Happy Halloween!
It starts as a small whisper from a mother to her neighbor. “Did you hear about the witch and warlock?” The neighbor talked to her sister, this time whispering “The witches are running a haunted house.” Her sister tells her coworker about it, and on and on and on.
Within days the news of ‘The Haunted House’ travels and everyone is preparing for it. Making plans to stop by on Halloween because who in their right mind would miss this?
But no one, NO ONE, was as excited as Stephen Strange.
The sanctum was normally to remain hidden unless the person called to it, but on Halloween (and with proper protection spells of all the artifacts) he began a tradition of opening the sanctum to the world and unleashed his powers upon them…… but that wasn’t his favorite part of it all.
No.
His favorite part was you, his wife, and your natural power.
You came from a coven when he met you, cocky and beautiful, everything about you powerful and smooth. You ended up saving him from a demon, showing him up in all but two moves before you vanished.
It took months of this, you popping up and saving him, before he finally got your name. Wong had warned him about you, warned him about your coven as well.
“They are purists, the witches are not to interact with warlocks or humans. If they find that she does, she could be stranded or worse killed.”
But Stephen couldn’t stay away, he was drawn to you.
Months and months, seeing you became a natural thing and soon enough he was completely in love. Your coven expelled you, and though you had been upset about losing your mother and sisters you had agreed to marry him and you had formed a happy family with him.
And there was one night a year that you allowed yourself to actually unleash the depth of your power.
“America!” You call up the stairs, fixing your cliche witch hat once more before moving to fuss over the streamers on the railing. “Baby wizard come on, it’s nearly time!”
“Coming!” She calls, and Stephen comes around the corner, leaning on the wall as he watches you fuss over the decorations before your adopted daughter rushes down the steps in her own wizard costume.
“YOU LOOK GREAT!” You squeal, pulling her in and fixing the shoulders.
“You’re not mad I chose wizard over witch?” America asks, allowing you to fuss over her.
“Absolutely not, I think you look great. Now where is-”
“Right here.” Stepen smiles before you even have to finish asking, turning slowly to show you his outfit.
“Those are your normal robes, Strange. This is supposed to be-” He smiles and holds out his hand, allowing a fully decorated cloak to fly to him. Cobwebs and black paint over him, and the second he latches on the outfit Stephen had been wearing transforms into the sinister version of it.
“Better? Mrs. Strange?”
“Perfect.” You smile, stepping closer to kiss him deeply before pulling back and clapping your hands.
Stephen takes a moment to admire you, trying not to grow a hard on at your costume before you are finally ready to begin.
“Alright, when the clock strikes 6 we will begin. A new round every hour. Understood?”
“Ready.” America smiles.
“I guess.” Wong sighs from his spot by the door, pretending not to be excited even though he was.
“Extremely ready!” Peter calls, swinging from the ceiling and landing next to America. Another one you had managed to adopt, you had ripped the memory curse and managed to allow everyone in the sanctum to remember him.  “Remind me of my role one more time.”
“You’re the dead man hanging, darling.”
“Right. Got it.”
“Let’s begin then.” It takes everything in Stephen not to kiss you when you smile, your eyes shining that magnificent purple. He loved this holiday.
The clock chimes 6 times, echoing out to the first crowd that had formed outside, bouncing on their feet excitedly as they wait for the Sanctum to appear, and once the 6th chime hits a heavy cloud of purple smoke appears and then the building is revealed. Gasps travel through the crowd as everyone pushes forward, stepping up the concrete steps happily.
The doors open slowly, the purple smoke working as a fog as a serene voice rings out to the crowd, lulling them all in. “Come little children, I’ll take thee away-”
Janey, who had just turned 17 three days ago, takes a couple steps in and once 30 people had made it in the doors slam shut and the lighting goes down easily, everyone nearly surrounded in darkness as a purple cloud forms above them. “Follow me, if you dare….”
And there you were, Janey could do nothing but blink up at you as you emerged from the cloud, floating. You were everything.
“It’s the witch of the sanctum!” Someone yells, pointing as if you weren’t the easiest thing to see in the room. You smile, a cheshire cat smile as you gesture for everyone to follow, leading them into your house of horrors.
The last batch of people come in at 4 am, most of them college students not ready to end the night. You had to pull back the scares a bit so there were no incidents. But by the end of the night you are left on the stairs, laying down with a small smile as Stephen comes to find you.
His touches are gentle as he lifts your head to sit on the stairs with you, laying your head on his lap and brushing your hair.
“Have a fun night?”
“The best night ever.” You yawn. “Reminds me of my old home. Especially when the hellhound ended up chasing after that biker guy. If only he knew she was just a puppy who smelled bacon.”
“Why would he have a burger in his pocket, I still don’t understand that.” Stephen jokes, trying to ease the tension in his chest as he gazes at you. He knew you missed it, your family. “I’m sorry baby.”
“Don’t be sorry, Warlock.” You whisper, sitting up and pulling him in for a soft kiss. “Thank you for letting me have fun tonight.”
“I enjoy it, you are msot gorgeous when you’re not taming your powers….. But the medusa trick was a bit much this year.”
“I TURNED HIM BACK.” You defend, smiling from ear to ear. “But we might have to tone down a bit next year.”
“We?” He laughs and you shrug. “Fine. I might have to tone it down next year.”
He grabs your chin softly, pulling you close until his lips are grazing your own. “Don’t ever tone it down, Witch.”
“No problem, Warlock.” He lets himself kiss you then, opening a portal to your room and allowing himself to destroy you.
Janey goes to school, whispering about the house. She tells her friends of the smoke and how the witch had turned a man into solid stone and the hellhound. She tells them about the epic maze of blue star shaped portals that lead them from room to room, each one containing another world.
The news travels about the hellhounds and the flying demons. The skeletons that walked amok and the young man that hung himself in the foyer at the end. (They didn’t know that Peter was using his webs as a harness and the spell you put on him made him unrecognizable)
By the time the police went to the address they found nothing but an empty warehouse, Stephens protection spells back in place keeping his witch and his family safely tucked inside.
{Would love to write more about reader witchling and warlock Stephen}

Something had gone wrong.
Terribly, terribly wrong.
He wasn’t quite sure what had gone wrong, just that something had. He could sense it, traveling from his fingertips all the way to his heart. One minute he had been casting his spell, and the next, he felt a shift, and now he was here.
Stephen brushes his hand on his shirt, glancing around the busy street and trying to place a familiar sight. This was still New York, the same Empire State in the distance. But he knew better, there was a hint of something in the air, and Stephen knew to always trust his instincts. He thinks through his options and concludes that the best one is to find the sanctum. If he's right, he assumes he was in another universe and that they probably had their own Dr. Strange. He always did want to meet another version of himself. The question was, would they be best friends or enemies?
He walks down the familiar streets, noting that the names are consistent and nothing looks out of place. Which was a little odd given he had yet to find out what made this world different from his. Yet, that idea was quickly negated when he stepped foot in front of his home.
He could feel the energy wrapped around his wrists, and it wasn’t his. Someone else was here — someone that wasn’t him. He takes careful steps towards the door, sparks flying from his fingers just in case. The doors open with ease, and his eyes narrow in anticipation. He takes a careful step inside, hands up in defense as he prepares for whoever is guarding it to start a war. But no one enters and the doors slam shut behind him. He lowers his guard, left with nothing but the orange glow of his magic. The feeling was stronger now. It was so familiar on the tip of his tongue, like something from his past he can’t quite capture.
At the sound of footsteps, his hand flies out, a spell flying at the intruder. But they easily deflect it with their hand. “That’s not necessary.”
And that’s when Stephen knew what the feeling was. It was the feeling of you.
He watches as you descend the stairs, hood falling back to reveal the same eyes he always loved. He knew for sure what had gone terribly wrong. You stopped at the end of the stairs, tilting your head.
“You’re not from here, are you?” You asked softly.
Your voice is light, airy, and sweet like he remembered it. You were exactly how he remembered you, down to the curve of your nose. It makes his stomach lurch as he stares at what must be a joke.
“What gave it away?” He asked, trying to keep his voice steady as he meets your glassy eyes.
You point towards the Eye of Agamotto around his neck. “I’m the only person allowed to wear that.”
He shrugs, playing arrogant though his heart aches deeply. “That all?”
You press your lips into a thin line, feeling the weight of the room on your shoulders. “Well, that and Stephen Strange is dead.”
He wasn’t sure why that shocked him so much. Maybe he really was arrogant enough to believe he couldn’t die. But it was only after you said that did he notice the frown on your lips and the dark circles under your eyes. He glances around the Sanctum and notes the condition of dust and darkness. A place that wasn’t very suited to the you he knew. “Funny, where I’m from, (Y/N) (L/N) is dead.”
“It seems we’re not exactly the same variant then.”
Stephen quirks a brow. “How so?” He wanted you to so desperately not be a carbon copy of her. Yet, by the looks of it, you were. Nothing about you was different except for maybe the whole sorcerer supreme thing. He’s not really shocked by it. You were always so determined. He doesn’t doubt this Earth was lucky to have you. He just wishes he did too.
“My last name isn’t (L/N),” You said with a soft frown. “It’s Strange.”
Stephen’s lips part as his eyes fall to the ring on your finger. It’s identical to the one buried in his sock drawer. The one that should have been around your finger until…
You both stand in silence. Stephen, desperately trying not to shed a tear or kiss you. He’s dreamed of this day for so long, but now that it was here? It felt like a nightmare — it was a nightmare. He couldn’t stay. He got a taste of what he finally wanted, only for it to be taken away moments later. He often thought of doing it himself, going back to that night and changing it. You weren’t dead, you couldn’t possibly be dead, and if there was any proof, then it was this Dr. Strange.
You take a deep breath. “It’s weird, isn’t it? Everything you’ve ever wanted is right in front of you, and yet…” You trail off, sniffling at the end. Stephen wasn’t sure what happened to your Stephen. Maybe the same thing to him, but obviously, this Stephen had gotten lucky enough to marry you. He would kill for that opportunity. In fact, that thought has crossed his mind a few times. He could utter a few words and rewrite history as he knew it. Somehow though, the idea of everything he would miss out on stopped him. Not to mention the chances of him succeeding were little to none.
“Yeah,” Stephen chokes out in reply. He stares at his boots, refusing to look at you. He fears if he does, he might never go back.
Your fingers drift towards your ring, twisting it around your finger as you try to think of what to say. “Did she lead you on this path?” You gesture towards his outfit and the cloak.
Stephen nods, recalling the night his life changed forever. All it took was one accident, one mistake, and he found himself in the worst pain imaginable. A pain that didn’t go away, even after everything. Even after years and years, anniversary after anniversary.
“He led me on mine too,” You whispered. “I always did wonder what would have happened if it was me instead.”
And here Stephen was, wondering the exact same question. He finally looked up again, realizing just how broken you looked. It didn’t matter who died — the outcome was the same. One Dr. Strange, broken and just as alone.
“Did you ever try going back?” He blurts out.
You let out a small laugh, “Of course I did. I got so close once I could see him, but what good would it do?”
“You’d get to be with him again,” Stephen replied. “Is that not worth everything?”
“It is,” You whisper, lip trembling. “But I can’t change what made me who I am. Besides, you’re proof of my theory. I chose to believe that in the infinite number of worlds, we had to make it on one of them.”
Stephen shakes his head. “Do you really believe that?”
A tear slips down your cheek. “I have to.”
“Or else?” Stephen probes.
“Or else I’m going to beg you to stay here.”
“And I wouldn’t say no.” He takes a tentative step towards you, wiping the tear from your cheek and meeting your eyes again. Your eyes are so full of life, youth, wisdom, and all the things he wanted to see from you. The eyes of his wife.
“I still love you,” He whispered, letting his own tears feel as you pull him close. He knew this was dangerous. He might give in and just stay. He would never know what happened back home. This was home — you were his home.
“I still love you too,” You said. “And I know in some other world, we’re happy.”
“Perhaps we can indulge in that fantasy here just a little longer?” Stephen suggests, pressing a tender kiss to your forehead. He just needed a few more moments with you.
“You know what happens if we do.”
Stephen pulls back, pressing his forehead to yours. “I know, just please, five more minutes.”
“Five minutes could be forever.”
“If only it was.”

“Just a pawn.”
Stephen strange x reader/ Bucky Barnes x reader
Tumblr media
Hurt / comfort
Tw: angst, emotional abuse, emotional manipulation, self deprecating, mentions of death, just strange being a flat out asshole in this to get to Christine because he is capable. Happy ending for (Name) this time though. Once again getting (Name) the therapy they need.
Strange is kind of intentionally an ass here, my bad guys, I’ll make it up in another story
———————————————————————
Never had he thought he could lose the love of his life and his soulmate all in one day.
———————————————————————
Stephen Strange had met you through the avengers, a newer recruit hidden from the media. He hadn’t known where you had come from or why you were there, it was just where he found you.
He could sense your power, a hidden blurb of Energy manipulation and wonder working. But he could also sense your downfalls, your side affects.
One side affect in particular drew him to you, luck of others but not of yourself. It was a realm of supernatural being he’d sure he’d never reach, but it mustn’t have been easy for you.
Imagine a child growing up in a world where in which they seem unlucky, purely as they are unwillingly gifting the others luck and success. It is a gift and a curse all in one.
But a power like that made his mind wander into places it should never go. Christine, he wondered, would he and Christine have a chance if he was graced with your luck. He shook of the thought and it’s selfish nature as he finally went to greet you.
But the thought never truly left his mind, and so he started to unconsciously formulate a plan. A plan he’s sure would demote him and discredit all he’s worked for if he was ever found out.
———————————————————————
Stephen was more than kind to you, kinder, even, than all the others. Except from Bucky, your new room neighbour with a hardened glare but a soft demeanour. The same man who’d wish you a “good morning darling” just rough enough to make you blush every morning.
But there was something different about Stephen, he wanted you, wanted you close all of the time.
You’d catch him dragging you to fancy restaurants and small quaint coffee shops, you’d enjoy yourselves, laugh and talk for hours but you’d always leave abruptly.
It got to a point where you had to question his strange actions and how he’d always stare just beyond your face and behind you.
There was always a woman with longer brown hair and a light voice wherever you went. Of course however, so caught up in Stephens love bombing you never put two and two together, chalking it up to a coincidence, as he’d always manage to capture your attention once more.
———————————————————————
The longer you went on with Strange and the closer the two of you became, the more Bucky would pull away.
You two took to spending more time away from the compound, as if you and Stephen spent time together within it, Bucky was sure to spare a glare at the two of you.
You didn’t understand what had happened, he was your best friend and now he seemed a bitter child. Why couldn’t he just see you were happy and be happy for you?
Why did he have to knock on your room late at night and leave cryptic warnings?
Why couldn’t everything go back to how it was?
Bucky had taken to grabbing your shoulders when you’d bump into each other alone, he’d stand there with an iron grip and stare deeply into your eyes.
His multi toned hues searching into your soul and trying to slip in answers and reasons you’d never understand. He was searching for something, and you weren’t sure why he hadn’t found it.
Bucky began to scare you with his odd ways and strange glances. He would leave deep bruising imprints of his fingertips, one’s that you decided would be best left unknown to him.
You couldn’t understand what you had done wrong.
Stephen comforted you, he was all you had, he was all you needed, and so you pushed away everyone else for him.
It was within his advice that he suggested you isolate yourself from them, that you come stay with him.
He told you he loved you and you believed him. Because somewhere you were sure you loved him too.
Living with him was a dream come true, and yes, you fell for him deeply. But he was odd, there where irrational moment where he’d drag you from your bed in the middle of the night and mutter to himself next to you, or he’d drag you outside in your pyjamas at 2 in the morning to some late night event where that woman would be again. The same brown hair, the same hazel eyes.
You thought that maybe, maybe this was how he showed love, maybe he was just trying to be spontaneous. But you knew something was wrong, deep down something was wrong.
———————————————————————
The answer came to you one night.
Did you know that guilt can make people sleep walk, sleep talk? As in the case of lady Macbeth and her stained damned spot, Stephen began to be active in his body as he was in his dreams. As active as he was in his guilt.
He muttered her name, ‘Christine’, for nights on end, he muttered her name and you let it slide. But it only got worse
The muttering had transformed into loud chatter. He said things that his waking mind would dare not.
Then finally, he said what he had done. His dreams must have been plagued of you confronting him, and he proclaimed his apologies and then his selfish plans.
“You were a pawn” he said
“I’ve never loved you” he said
“Your power was meant to be used” he said
“I’m sorry” he began to cry
“Forgive me” he sobbed.
That night you slept on the couch.
———————————————————————
Stephen knew you were catching on, he knew you were drifting away from him. But he also knew that he had stripped you of anywhere to run to. He was your only hope.
It hurt him to treat you how he did, but he always was brought back to the greater cause. In the end he needed Christine, he didn’t need you.
Stephen knew he was being selfish and abusive. But it was at a point where he no longer cared. He was too infatuated, too close to getting what he wanted.
Guilt followed him into his dreams, he’d wake up more tired than when he had fallen asleep. Your betrayed face plaguing his dreams.
When he woke up to you gone, he had to keep himself from going insane. For a split second he could see his world crumble around him, only to rationalise and find you downstairs asleep on the couch.
He draped a blanket over you and smiled. He thinks he could have loved you, if only Christine hadn’t stolen his heart first.
“I’m sorry (name)” he muttered under his breath. “But at least once I’m done, you can find someone who deserves you.”
But you couldn’t, he knew that, because he had taken you away from society and placed you into a fantasy land of false security and love.
For a while, you pretended everything was normal, you tried to forget what he had admitted to.
You hoped he’d fall for you if you just understood what he was going through, if you just stayed with him.
———————————————————————
Finally, he had had his fill, finally, Christine had agreed to go on a date with him.
He abandoned you at the first hurdle to winning her back. Your luck had been used up.
“Please” you had begged, “what did I do? Why was I not worth your love?”
He had shaken his head at that point.
“Who even are you again?” He had asked mockingly. You were a stranger to him now, used and abused and thrown away. He didn’t want you anymore.
For the first time in a long while, he looked at you and your heart didn’t flutter, you gazed into each others eyes, and you felt nothing but resent, nothing but pain. Because all you were was a pawn in his game, never enough for him.
So you left, you left his home, you left his life, and you found yourself a nice corner in the hustle of New York, and that is where you laid your bed and, you hoped, your grave.
———————————————————————
You must have fallen asleep at some point because the sun was now setting and the crowds had changed. Far less children wandered the streets and now partygoers and criminals made up the sea of faces.
You were still exactly as you where, hidden in a dark corner of New York, between a brick stairwell and a building. You were heartbroken, but not stupid enough to go down an alley.
You hoped for the world to take you away, the cold to strip your warmth and to be embraced in all those dead, all those who had left you alone in such a big cruel world.
You prayed it could happen before an avenger on their night patrol found your pitiful state, you knew how thorough they were. You knew that despite his rant about his lack of use for you, Stephen wouldn’t let you die. He would have reported your missing state to tony. You were too good of a pawn to lose. To much of an asset.
Tony wouldn’t get the full story, Stephen needed to protect his image. So Tony would get some explanation about your power causing irrational behaviour, that you ran off and want to go rogue, that you want to become a villain.
You knew Tony would be sceptical, but protocol called they drug you up and lock you away.
You couldn’t stand it, you hated it, you hated Strange. You wanted to go back to those movie nights you’d spend bundled in Bucky’s arms or laughing with Natasha, normally over Steve smashing his face into the ground after Tony tripped him up. You missed your family.
So you fell asleep, you dreamt of those warmer nights. Because your dreams were all you had anymore.
———————————————————————
Waking up in a bed wasn’t your plan. But it was soft and smelt familiar.
You could hear water gushing into a bath from a distance. You didn’t want to open your eyes though, they stung, but everything felt so peaceful, so homely.
“Good morning darling.” You knew that voice, you knew this smell. It was him.
———————————————————————
Bucky hadn’t known how to react when he found you asleep and shivering in a dirty corner. He almost overlooked you as a drug addict or homeless person, you had just looked so desolate and abandoned.
He only turned around once he heard a small whimper, it was you. He took a step closer and saw your form curled up, still, and yet lost among the city.
Picking you up, you felt lighter than before, he cursed Stephen in his head. He hated him.
Tony had received that message from Strange. But he had known better. He had hacked into your phone before he did anything radical, had found those rants on your notes app. The emotional manipulation he put you through, all of it, right there.
Bucky had to prevent himself from hunting the bastard down and publicly gutting him, then and there. But he reeled in his anger when he finally saw you.
He loved you. But it had taken him too long to protect you. Now you were hurt, and he blamed himself.
———————————————————————
Living with the avengers again was strange, everything felt far too normal. It was exactly the same as when you had left. But Stephen had convinced you they had forgotten about you, that they hated you?
You were confused, but not unhappy.
You weren’t able to do any missions again unless you were brought into ‘mandatory therapy’ as Tony had put it. But it did help.
You soon got over Stephen and came to loathe how he treated you. Once again returned the soft cuddles of movie nights and the infectious chortles of home. Everything felt right again.
It took Bucky more time than he’d thought it would to admit his feelings to you though.
He had been walking through the hallways of the compound when he came across you. You gave him a smile and a wave before trying to walk away again.
It was in that moment he realised he never wanted to see you turn away from him again, not without knowing how he truly felt. So, he grabbed your shoulder, you flinched and he took a moment to reel back, softening his grasp.
“I’m sorry, I should have told you how I felt, I never wanted to hurt you.. I just couldn’t find a way to tell you his true nature, not when you seemed so happy with him. Then you moved away, and he isolated you from us and we- I- missed you. We shouldn’t have let him take you. I shouldn’t have let him hurt you- I’m sorry.” You look up into his eyes and see nothing but sorrow, adoration and genuine love. He began to tear up, taking a deep breath as you placed a hand on his shoulder and smiled.
“I love you.” He whispered.
———————————————————————
Everything wasn’t as perfect as Stephen thought, he missed you. It took him all that time of neglecting you, and now neglecting Christine to realise.
He watches ,who he considered his one true love, scream at him, tears flowing down her cheeks. She pushes him from her house, throws his bags and slams the door.
He had truly fucked up everything good in his life.
But he did love you.
And so he found himself a corner, somewhere in the streets of New York, a corner where he could sit and rot.

The Strange Policy | Stephen Strange
Tumblr media
Pairing: surgeon!Stephen Strange x nurse!femme!reader
Word Count: 5K
A/N: I watched When Harry Met Sally and got inspired and in my feels. This is a product of that and it’s also my take on the “there's only one-bed” trope. This is also my first Stephen smut so be gentle....might do an angsty part two, but ZERO promises. Enjoy.
Warnings: SMUT (18+ ONLY), mentions of wounds/cuts/etc, doctor stuff, vague ass stuff, lack of medical knowledge, cringey fluff, etc.
"Did I wake you?"
She hummed briefly, debating lying but sighing out the truth, "You know I don't sleep."
"You sleep more than I do," His laugh was breathy, revealing his fatigue, "What are you doing?"
"Watching When Harry Met Sally."
Her chin was working its way down to her chest as she slumped further into her bed. She filtered through the channels, nothing grabbing her withering attention. But then there it was.
Maybe it was the fall leaves she was desperate to have over the snow that taken over that drew her in or maybe it was the nostalgia tied to it, either way, it filled her with something that she was happy Stephen's call interrupted.
"Really?" There was his superficial judgment she was looking for. In an odd way, it grounded her, always a good reminder to not take too things seriously. That was only when it wasn't getting on her nerves.
Her tone was dull as she answered, "Really."
She could picture him now, his posture slightly hunched to reach the phone while he rubbed his recently discarded cap off his head and through his hair. His mind was probably still in the operating room already critiquing his technically perfect operation.
If she wasn't in the room with her, he'd always call her after. He'd give her the play-by-play of what happened, down to the music choice. She preferred to be in the O.R. with him, no longer dreading it like she once had.
She could appreciate the way he worked. It was clinical for a purpose, but under all of that, she loved the way she'd inadvertently become his good luck charm. It was the first and last time she'd complimented him on his procedure methods. From there forward, he'd offer her a wink before picking up his scalpel. It was a joke at first, but it stuck like honey due to his superstition and genuine amusement.
"Do you agree?"
"With what?" She mumbled, watching as the movie had another five-year time skip. New York was always so romanticized in the movies, only showing the beautiful love-filled parts. Perhaps, that's what it truly did look like for someone in love.
"That men and women can never be friends because the sex part always gets in the way."
He could feel her laugh on the other end all the way down to his toes. That or it was the exhaustion catching up to him.
"You clearly do with that 'Strange Policy' and all," She smiled lightly, loving teasing him about the unofficial rule Palmer had created for Metro-General. One that she knew was in place not for his lack of trying.
"That doesn't answer my question," He tutted softly. She could feel his smirk from the other end, knowing her answer was contrary to his and how he loved to pick it apart. He lived to challenge her but loved when she challenged him as she was one of the few who succeeded in doing so.
"We're friends, aren't we?"
---
They had met years ago, yet if you asked Stephen at the time he would have said he'd never met her. She was his scrub nurse of a handful of years and yet he had failed to learn her name, too concerned over his ego to care.
It wasn't until a fateful New Year's Eve. There was always the press at the door, waiting for the New Year's Eve babies. Along with the numerous alcohol-fueled accidents that fit in just before midnight. Then there were the patients that had been in their beds for months, the ones that needed constant care even during the busiest nights.
Sure, the pay was slightly better, but there wasn't enough monetary compensation to give to make up for what the nurses endured on the holiday. The work was demanding, but the doctors were even more so. The doctors were always on edge, but the holiday brought out a completely other side to them. Accident reports were their worst enemy, but it was the unorthodox olive branch between the doctor and the nurse.
"They got you good," Stephen spoke softly to match the quietness of the room. His headlamp was bright in her eyes as she tried to pull away from him and the utensils he was too quick to pull out.
"It wasn't her fault," Her response held bitterness. Her head was throbbing from the bedpan that had been thrown at her. It was yet another nightmare story to add to her repertoire.
"Shouldn't need stitches," He continued his examination on the small flesh wound above her eyebrow, dabbing it with the iodine swab.
She grew jittery on the parchment paper of the exam chair. The entire thing was uncomfortable from its start. Stephen had walked in on her disinfecting her cut, thinking he was one of the only ones left. She tried to be discreet about it, but he was criticizing her methods before she knew what was happening.
"I know that."
"It's a superficial wound at best-
"I know."
"You seem to know a lot," He hummed while removing his gloves for a fresh pair. He was nothing but thorough. Then he looked down at her scrubs to add, "You're not a doctor on this floor, are you?"
Her laugh was anything but genuine. In hindsight, she could see how his question was actual, but the struggles of the night overwhelmed her and took her sense of humor with it.
She went to speak but his voice was louder, "I work this holiday every year-
"So do I-
"How come I've never seen you?"
"Look, Dr. Strange-
"You know me?" His charm was instantaneous, asking the ego-filled question with delight. He read her face quickly understanding the double meaning of the conversation, "Am I supposed to know you?"
She eyed him, trying hard to give him the benefit of the doubt, but his smugness drove her, "Ask me for a scalpel."
He paused his action for a moment, a confused laugh threatening to break his perfect bandage application, "What?"
She insisted, remaining still until he pulled away from her again, checking his handiwork. It looked seamlessly put back together, some of his best work, "Come on, ask me."
He'd bite.
"Pass me the 10-blade." It depended on the surgery and she hadn't been specific. Therefore, he went for the safe, generic choice. One he rarely used due to the higher-powered tools it took to get inside of someone's head.
"10-blade." Her tone was mocking and he finally understood why.
He hadn't realized she was the hands behind him tying his medical gown. It wasn't a part of his routine to pay attention. He was too immersed in running through the surgery ahead of him trying to push away the feeling of pressure to hold up perfection. There were always more people in his room, all the students pushing and shoving each other behind the glass wall in hopes they'd be able to catch Stephen's free hand something.
Yet, he never realized she was front row to all of it.
---
She had a love-hate relationship with hospitals. She thought they were always too bright with a bleak atmosphere. There were phones constantly ringing, monitors always beeping, people coughing all of the air out of themselves; everything too overwhelming to the senses. Yet, she loved everything about it even down to the paperwork.
It was therapeutic for her, something to keep her hands busy and give her a breather from the constant social interactions of her position. It was a moment she'd have for herself that she usually spent contently alone.
"You seem tired."
A coffee cup now sat on the line she was supposed to use to record her notes. She followed it up to be met with Stephen, an identical cup in his own hand. This was new.
"We don't have that thrombectomy until 12," Her eyebrows furrowed with confusion all the while ignoring his unintentional insult.
"I know," He took her response as an invitation to join her, pulling the chair next to her away from the table for himself,  "We've got some time to kill."
It took him a few weeks to warm up to the idea he was in the wrong for not recognizing her. But once he did their conversation flowed more smoothly. It remained professional, cordial even, but it was no longer in the nonexistent territory. Something he couldn't stand.
"Did you always want to be a nurse?"
"What is this?" She looked between the coffee and him, suspicion settling instantly. The last thing she wanted was someone else workload passed off on her on mile high stack.
"What? Don't blame me for trying to get to know the person who hands me blades..." He teased only to receive a glare. He copied her squint slightly in further jest to ask, "Too soon?"
It was the first time his humor had caused the smallest of smiles to appear on her face. She wasn't sure what about it let him wedge his way into her life she so desperately wanted to separate from him, but figuring out that she preferred her coffee black with a lot of sugar helped.
It helped start a routine, something both doctors and nurses thrived off of. Usually, Stephen's break would have a slight overlap with hers, not always, but day by day it seemed as if it was happening more frequently. So frequently, Stephen had begun waiting at the nurse's station for her to come out of the last thing she'd been doing.
"Loitering again, Dr. Strange?" Her voice startled him slightly, her hand coming to touch the back of his arm to move past him more easily. It was fleeting, but it was deliberate.
Sometimes their finger brushed in the O.R., but there was always gloves covering the touch. His skin pricked as if she'd shocked him. He wasn't used to touch in that way, let alone accepting it, but it felt different from her.  It was like his senses had become heightened to how closely she was now standing to him. He watched her as she sorted her charts like she always had mindlessly chatting with him about something unrelated.
But Stephen hadn't heard a word, too focused on how she was careless with her movements, no longer thinking or moving away if they touched. It was like they had passed an unspoken milestone. One that made Stephen's confidence falter for just a moment.
"Can't do coffee today," She muttered, but Stephen finally and fully picked up on what she said. He ignored the rest of her reasoning due to simply not wanting to hear it, "I'm going to-
"I noticed on the schedule you get off at eight," He continued despite her still speaking, "I was thinking-
"You do a lot of that," She stopped him before he could start. She'd evaded it skillfully the past few times, not usually one to mix business and pleasure, but Stephen was nothing but persistent.
"Dinner."
"Dr. Strange-
"My treat."
"Dr. Strange-
"Stephen."
If there were lingering nurses near them, they all stopped what they were doing, eyes and ears intended on hearing what was happening between the two. Stephen was notorious for his wit, but not entirely for his flirtatious side. It caught everyone in the room off guard.
However, she wasn't buying any of it for a moment, "What's your motive?"
He couldn't help but smile, "Didn't realize I murdered someone."
---
It was cold out again, a few winters later.
She  had finally gotten a moment to herself where she could strip herself of  the scrubs she had on for over twelve hours, shower to wash off other people's bodily fluids, and get off her aching feet to give her back a  break.
The beds were never comfortable in the on-call room, but they fulfilled their purpose.
She  was fast asleep when she felt the bed dip. She turned slightly,   thinking it was someone else trying to hoist themselves to the bunk   above her. Soon enough, she'd slip back under into slumber. But, she   felt the scratchy blanket being pulled from her shoulders pulling her   further from the state she wanted to be in.
"Move over," The voice was deep, but undoubtedly belonged to the head of neurosurgery.
She groaned lightly, something resembling a disappointed whine, "Get your own bed, I've finally got a break."
"I've got surgery in an hour," He said pushing himself further into the twin-sized space, "And the other beds are taken-
"Fine." She hadn't allowed him to protest further. She couldn't care about anything else, desperate for sleep to chase away exhaustion. However, his sterile smell overwhelmed her quickly, pushing her to whisper once more, "Where'd you come from?"
"Craniotomy," He moved around more, looking for the most comfortable spot to lay.
She could only hum in acknowledgment, barely able to really process what he was really saying.
He continued, mind still buzzing from it. He thought it was a routine procedure, but once he saw the grey matter, it became much more complicated. He explained every detail to her, his volume increasing slightly with excitement, "You should have been there..."
"Sounds interesting..." Her response was on instinct. She knew he'd be talking about the surgery until the next big one came along and she'd be filled in on the details more than once.
However, what she truly neglected to get from his elation was how much more he was trying, in his own way, to convey to her.
"There's this other case I've been trying to get, I need your help on it," He said, turning on his side to face her better, "Maybe if you talk to the mom she'll sign off on-
"Hey, Stephen," She mumbled straight into the now shared pillow, "I'm going to go back to sleep now."
Stephen. He  melted at the sentiment of just his name coming from her lips. It   usually bothered him when his title wasn't used and he found joy in   correcting people. However, whenever she called out for him. Dr. Strange. It was always so cold, ironically both clinical and cynical.
"Right, right," He apologized briefly.
He shuffled more in his spot, pressed against her with ease. It was just how she was; always a sense of ease radiating from her. Stephen liked to think she heard him. He could say anything to her. He could just be himself. It all felt easy.
"Your watch is digging into my back," Her voice was still soft as she turned back to him. She pulled at his wrist until his arm was over her, creating more space for the two to be more comfortable squashed in.
The complaint was a disguise to take advantage of his warmth. Stephen   loved when it was cold out because that meant her touches always   lingered. This, though, was entirely different as his arms encased her   completely. It was like she could finally shake off the chill on her   bones.
His frame perfectly covered her, his body looking like the only one in the bed. An outsider would have difficulty seeing her in front of him as she was almost to the wall. It didn't matter if anyone saw them, everyone knew by now they functioned as a unit. If there was one, the other wasn't far behind.
"Did you see the snow out?" He all but mumbled into her shoulder. He knew she wouldn't be asleep for a little while longer, maybe not even at all.
"Mhmm," She nodded, her muscles relaxing into him, "We're supposed to get a few inches tonight."
"Did you get your tree yet?" He added before too much of a pause happened.
"Stephen-
"I know you haven't," He continued his thought, "Let's pick it up tonight before we get snowed in and-
"I'll get it on my day off," She groaned, shifting in his arms to face him. Her eyes were still shut meaning she missed how his eyes were studying her face.
It was a bold move on his part to pull her to him, but he was no sense of shyness in the hold. Neither would admit it, but they missed each other throughout the day.
"Let's just get it tonight," He insisted, wanting an excuse to spend more time with her, "I passed a place today they have those scrawny ones you like-
"You're going to wake up the whole room with all your Christmas spirit," She mused, body turning to face him the conversation pulling her completely from slumber. She didn't mind, too focused on how Stephen's fingers became bold as they trailed rhythmically up and down her spine.
His smile was that of a child, "So is that a yes?
Her lips tugged, "Of course."
---
"Did I lose you?"
"Hmm?" Her eyelids were becoming heavy, but she was in no mood to fall asleep. The relaxation was too good to.
"You're not falling asleep are you?" He quipped. He was starting to feel antsy in his spot, ready to leave the hospital but hanging onto her every word.
"Can't," She started, eye focusing intently on the screen in front of her,  "How will I find out if they get together in the end?"
"Don't be ridiculous, they always get together in the end."
"Always a cynic."
"Oh come on now, don't be upset," He wanted to hear her voice once more before their call ended, "...Look, I'll make it up to you...I can pick up some of those noodles you love-
"With the extra sauce?" She asked, falling for the obvious trap.
It was routine at this point, a good way to debrief from the day. It was easy to be sucked into the hospital 24/7. The late-night food after a grueling shift was always the cure and as Stephen put it doctor recommended.
"With the extra sauce," He promised.
From the moment he left the hospital to the moment he left with the warm meal, he was ecstatic. Stephen chalked it up to hunger and seeking warmth. On his way over it seemed everything reminded him of her from the dainty Christmas trees in the shop windows to the people bundled up with warm drinks, making each step he made more assured than the last.
Once he made it to her door, Stephen balanced the food steadily in one hand while the other felt blindly on top of her door frame until he hit her spare key. Entering her home was always a simple action, a ritual Stephen loved.
Firstly, he'd place the key back in its spot for the next time he'd need to use it. Then, there were the dim lights of her place always on in a way that would lead him down the hall to her room. Her home contrasted his in such a clear way. Everything in her home once belongs to someone else but was put together in a way that was uniquely hers. Each piece in his home was custom made to be only his and he paid generously to make sure. Hers was warm and inviting while his was lavish and desolate.
"Good I made it just in time for the end," His sarcasm was palpable as he push his shoes off one by one while announcing his presence.
"For a second there, I thought you might have gotten lost," She joked, sitting up to accept the warm food he passed to her, "...Thank you."
Mumbling a quick you're welcome, Stephen propped himself up just how he'd found her. What Stephen had really come for was her bed. It was smaller than his, but the memory foam was unmatched. His legs were stretched out in front of him, ankles cross while his hands lay comfortably on his chest. In only a matter of moments, his breathing steadied to that of someone in a deep slumber.
Surgeons liked to think they were invincible, that they could fight sleep better than any other person. However, with the perfect concoction of low lights, a comfortable bed, and a working radiator, sleep became instant and irresistible.
She went to speak to him but closed her mouth once she saw how his head drooped to the side. The entire thing felt out of place, but she wouldn't want it any other way. The two had created a bond that she never thought she'd hold so dearly to her heart. Neither of them was blind to how the other grew fonder by the day. But there was always the doubt of lack of reciprocation or the fear of ruining what had taken time to build.
"You crying?" Stephen mumbled as he adjust his spot by moving on his side, palms together and hands under his cheek as he gave her a once over realizing she actually was.
Her head stayed positioned forward, watching how the two protagonists finally understood the other, "Go back to sleep."
"C'mon now, don't cry," He studied her unable to catch her true feelings. Tears from her, good or bad, held his attention. Stephen moved to her quickly as the laughter started to bubble in his chest, "He gets the girl in the end."
"That's not the point."
They both knew what she was talking about, the setting all too domestic to not. He now used his thumb to catch any remaining stray tears, "I think that's the whole point."
Neither could remember how their faces gravitated towards each other, but it was most likely due to how his thumb was to her lip, an eye trained to where he'd just traced. It was a preface to how their lips connected: quiet and barely there, a tender peck as if to console her, and something innocent.  Then he pecked her once more slightly less tentative and less friendly. It wasn't until the third she melted into his touch, reciprocating the same level if not more emotion.
He used his body weight as leverage as he now was pressed above her. He was warm, filling her senses with his scent as he stared at her ear and nibbled his way down to where her shirt had lifted. He was languid in his movements. Giving her every moment to savor the feeling of holding each other this close.
Stephen leaned back, pulling the hem of his shirt over his  head before tossing it aside, giving her the time to do it for   herself.  The two took their time to be settled between each other until Stephen's hands slid down her now bare stomach. One hand went to  grip  her thigh, while the other sandwiched itself in the space between  her  pelvis and his. His fingertips could already feel the heat  radiating  from her clothed core.
"Your hands are always so cold," He mumbled against her neck, feeling how her hands trailed his chest to get to his sides.
It had almost distracted him from the journey his fingers were on. However,  Stephen's eyes were latched to hers, exploring the interaction in every sense as their lips tangled again. He tapped two fingers against the  soaking fabric, happy with the way it caused her to squirm breathlessly.
He pulled away from her lips, but stayed close,  ghosting his mouth over  hers to say, "Will you let me taste you?"
Her stomach tingled at his bluntness, only fueling his conviction.
She'd never felt like this before.  She didn't  know that she  could feel an ache so deep inside her and be so completely  aware that  the only cure for it is the touch of another person.  A  specific  person. At this moment, she felt like he was her person.
But  before she could  reply with anything, Stephen pushed aside her underwear  and pushed his  fingers as deep as he could. The relief she found was   instantaneous.  A  breathless sigh slipped past her lips as he rubbed   over her folds,  delighted with the fluttering breaths she was letting   out.
Despite the  tension building up in her body, this is the most  relaxed she'd felt in  days. The attention he was paying to her body was  like no other. Stephen knew how her core was soon going to  convulse in the most delightfully  sinful way, making him harder than he'd think was ever possible. He  wanted to feel her completely and   wholly, but he needed to see how he  could make her feel with just his   hands. He wanted a taste, he wanted to  hold, he wanted to suck, he   wanted to bite, he wanted to squeeze, he  wanted to do anything and   everything that had to do with her.
She, though, all she wanted was for Stephen to fill her up so completely that she'd be feeling him for days, "Stephen..."
It  went quick, his movements stopping, leaving her empty, and pulling   back. She worried that it was time to come to their senses, but before   she could finish her thought she could feel Stephen's wet kisses on her   thighs. He was craving her at this point, selfishly not being able to   give her what she was asking for. He kissed the inside of her thigh once   more as he gets settled in  between them pulling her underwear off so   his arms  could hook around both thighs to pull her closer.
Her  hips twitched in the slightest movement, and Stephen's eyes darted up to  hers  for a moment before he dove in. He was teasing her and it was borderline painful the way he slowly kissed every part of  her   that ached for him.
Her lips parted, eyes shutting in pure bliss  as he  got to work, lips closing in on her clit to gently suck. Then,  his still  warm fingers returned to work in and out of her like no  tomorrow, she  was sure to be done in minutes. He continued to skillfully work his  mouth and fingers in her heat as she moaned deeply,  beginning to see  stars and feel warm.
As predicted, it didn't take  long for Stephen to coax  her through and down from a powerful orgasm. He coaxed her through it all from the high and back down, settling his cheek against her thigh in a tender hold as he watched her catch her breath.
Once  it was  still again, Stephen smiled to himself; pleased with her pleasure.  He was  ready to dive in for more, wanting to feel again how her  fingers tugged  his hair tenderly. But she couldn't help but beg him  again, "Stephen, please."
Her wish was his command.  Especially when she  said his name the way she did. Stephen got  pleasure in her  pleasure, so now as her legs were spread wide open just  for him, it was  his absolute bliss.
"Let's just go slow," Stephen managed through a confident breath, regaining his composure. Slow. His voice became lustful with his last word, just how she wanted it to. However, he wasted no time  kicking the  rest of his clothes to the side  so he could drag his tip along her slick core.
He guided himself to spread her open, circling around her clit making her walls flutter as he then pressed further. She could feel how his breath fanned against her neck, causing her to shiver. The feeling heightened when Stephen relaxed completely into her, causing them both to groan at the sensation of how her body instinctively reacted with a soft clench.
The moment  he filled her for the  first time, there was a  feeling of   completeness that  she'd been  missing.  She needed this, she  thought.  She needed to be  stretched,  to be filled. She meant to hold  her in her  mewl, but she  only had so  much control when she was  underneath Stephen.
Yet, Stephen based everything on her as he asked,  "This okay? Do you want me to stop?"
"God, no."
Neither  admitted it to the other, but it had been a long time for both to be in the position with anyone.  Their pleasure was quickly building as Stephen began to push his hips towards her finding the perfect rhythm within a few thrusts.
“Right there, Stephen,” She whispered, “Oh, right there.”
Her  tone's softness  was  making  his head dizzy. She'd only imagined this moment, craving to know how it felt to be with him as closely as they were. The moment finally solidified how the two grew exponentially fond of each other. It made all of her previous experience pale in comparison. She had never moved so in tandem with someone who held nothing but her best interests at heart.
She wanted to stay in the moment forever feeling the way he perfectly dragged through her to only return with such fervor.   However, she could feel his tip  pulsate inside of  her as his thrust became sloppy and his breath low. She couldn't help but repeat his name, again and again, each time her voice sounded desperate. He groaned in response as she felt the hum throughout her entire body, vibrations sent straight to her core.
"Stephen," Her voice an octave higher, her hips eagerly chasing his movements.  His forehead dropped to her shoulder, her name leaving his lips in a heavy breath.
"That’s it," He encouraged on her lips. She wasn't sure she could get anything out but moans much to his pleasure. His thrusts were becoming deeper, never missing that spot that was rarely explored.
Anything out of her mouth resembled a whimper, "You f-feel so good."
Stephen was  trying hard to last as long as he could,  but with one  flex of   her  muscles, he was a moaning mess on top of her as  he  finished inside  of  her. Stephen collapsed on top of her, his heart  pounding out of his chest. He wasn't sure if it was through passion or   embarrassment.
"Sorry I just-
"You're alright," She spoke over his confession with honesty. She loved the   feeling, being able to feel him, and how she now had something of his to hold onto which prompted her to say, "Let's just stay like this for a  moment."

Stephen stood in the silent darkness, blending into the night as the smell of petrichor permeated the air.
The rain had just begun to fall upon the earth, soaking every dry crevice with life once more, marking the end of a long, brutal summer, and ushering in the long-awaited autumn. The leaves were just slowly turning red, and the warmth of the summer air barely departed even if it was already October.
His eyes glowed dimly beneath the moonless night, pale and sharp, almost colorless by the way the glacial blue slowly faded to silvery white. His skin was ashen, cool like marble–a contrast to dark circles under his eyes. He looked almost sickly by the way his skin hung over his sharp cheekbones.
A cruel fate, he mused as his lips pulled back, revealing the sharp, pearly canines as he looked down at his gloved hands. Centuries have passed and his heart still hoped that one day the universe would return to what once was his. He had traveled the world, searching in every corner of the world, yet he found himself back here once again.
Standing in the mask of the shadow, watching from afar as his eyes could see, feeling breathless once more as if it was the first time he had laid eyes upon you. A pessimist he was, Stephen couldn’t help but be overwhelmed by the sudden burst of warmth that flooded his cold, unbeaten heart. It was like an ocean, filling up the trenches of the scars that were left when he lost you.
How cruel was the fragility of mortality–ripping you away from him over and over again?
The wickedness of the universe, punishing a creature like him to eternal damnation– devoiding him of any joy for all eternity—perhaps as a punishment to balance the universe once more for the deed he had done–for daring to try and cheat death; the defiler of the natural law.
But now he finally found you. Again.
Upon centuries of searching through endless, fractured hope of his–centuries of loneliness was nothing compared to the sliver of hope you have given him at the moment. And by the grace of the Damn, he won’t let you go ever again.
Taking a deep breath, Stephen could smell your scent lingering heavily among the crowd, far sweeter with a tinged for floral notes–like honey and lavender coursing through your veins, making his mouth salivate. All of his rationality wavered between hunger and needs.  The thought of tasting you upon his tongue–the smell of your scent overwhelming him once more, and he couldn’t push the thought away.
How long had he yearned to be close to you, yet the anticipation scared him? The what-if questions, whether you would find him suitable to be a lover or companion scared him more than the light of the sun itself.
Surely, turning to ashes was less painful than your rejection.
He wanted to laugh at the thought. How pathetic he was–a creature who could swallow a world terrified of a mortal woman…
No, he shook the thought away. You were more than that to him.
You were his heart, his soul, and his star–his compass that guided him on the right path. You were the reason his unbeaten heart remained hopeful.
His attention shifted once more from his thoughts at the sound of your laughter rang in the night. He felt his heart drop to the pit of his stomach as you pulled a man into a hug before saying goodbye. He knew he was your friend, but it didn’t stop his heart from feeling a pang of jealousy. Oh, how he wishes to touch you.
Stephen’s eyes continued to follow you, though he remained where he stood, not wanting to draw any attention to himself.
He watched you looking both ways at the crosswalk, waiting for the traffic to die out a bit. As you took a few steps forward, he heard from the far distance, the tire-screeching sound heading your way, but of course, you were unaware of that.
He listened closely as the truck rounded the corner–so quickly for any mortal to react, and without any consideration of the traffic. He told himself again that he won’t interfere. If fate meant for you and him to not exist at the same time, then he should let it—then images of you dying before him over the course of his immortality flashed before his eyes, and every rationality left him.
“Fuck it,” he said, using his power to transport himself.
He reappeared less than a second later like a rush of energy, bursting through the sound barrier with a loud bang, sending the speeding truck barreling off the road and straight into a metal pole. He had already caught you in his arms while he reappeared, whisking you away to safety.
A few moments later, five police cars came into halting screech as police rushed out to pull the suspects out of the wreckage. Stephen gazed down at your frightening form, trembling in his arms like a baby animal. Your eyes were wild. Fear permeated from your blood and straight to his nose, reeking of sickly sweet scent like spoiled fruits that were left under the sun too long.
“Are you alright?” He asked, looking down at you.
You couldn’t answer him, except to nod.
His eyes scanned your body quickly, surveying for any scratches or wounds. He would not figure himself, nor the driver if there were any marks on you. He relaxed once he noticed that there were no scratches on you.
“We need to stop meeting like this,” he muttered to himself under his breath as he stood there with you still in his arms. He could feel your body trembling in his arms while your heartbeat frantically, pumping the blood in your veins with effort.
Your adrenaline was still pumping in your veins as you stared up. Your breathing was still heavy, inhaling every mouthful of air into your lungs as they allowed you to.
Stephen could feel the burning sensation growing stronger the more he breathed in your scent. It became too apparent and it made his body tremble with needs from blood lust alone. It shouldn't have happened because he was feeding just before he came to check on you tonight.
Stephen mentally groaned. You were his undoing indeed. Yet, he longed for it–for you.
“Wh–how did you do that?” You finally were able to speak as you looked wildly up at the man and then at the wreckage. It was impossible what just happened—the speed of the truck, and him—he was on the other side of the road, and then in a blink of an eye, he was here, whisking you away in his arms, away from this wreckage…
Stephen carefully set you down on your feet and took a step back, trying to create a distance between the two of you. But he quickly changed his mind when your legs gave out. It was best to simply let you use him for support.
“Do what? Pulling you out from incoming traffic?”  His voice was too calm.
You stared up taken aback by how relaxed he was–it was almost as if he wasn’t scared or terrified of it. A normal human would be shaken by just pure adrenaline alone, but this man–this man simply looked bored.
“I saw you across the street a few minutes ago, you can’t possibly get here this fast–”
“I think you mistake me for someone else, miss,” he quickly cut you off, and a small part of you snapped. You didn’t know if it was the adrenaline that was left in you or if was it something else. Whatever it was, you really didn’t appreciate what he just said to you.
“Look I am grateful that you saved my life, but what I don’t appreciate is you gaslighting me into thinking that what I saw earlier wasn’t right.” Your voice wavered between anger and wanting to cry. There were so many things happening all at once, and as your body slowly came down from the high, it slowly registered to your brain that you almost died. For this man—this stranger to just blatantly lie in your face, you were beyond furious.
“And what do you want me to say to that?”
You narrowed your eyes for a few seconds. He was self-assured. You didn’t understand why he had the need to lie to you about it.
You exhaled sharply through your nose. “I don’t know.  Just something that would help me rationalize all of this. At least tell me your name.”
“It’s for the best if we remain strangers, miss. Have a good night.”
His voice sounded so sad. It made you even more eager to understand him.
When he turned to walk away from you, you instinctively grasped his hand, but all you got was his leather glove. Stephen halted immediately and looked at you with uncertainty and horror as you stood there, looking at his glove and then at his hand.
Stephen quickly snatched the glove away from you because he couldn’t afford to have your scent linger on his belongings way more than it is right now. Every cell in his body was buzzing and craving for you, and the more time he spent with you, the more he felt all of his sanity slowly slipping away from him.
It would not be long before his hunger dictated all of his wills.
Your fingers grazed him by accident. Stephen quickly pulled himself away as if he was burned by your touch.
You sucked in your breath sharply at how cool his skin was, but suddenly you felt yourself slipping into the darkness. Your ears range briefly before you feel like your whole body is being submerged underwater.
The noise around you drowned out, melted into a jumble of sound till there was silence. Your body went limp. Images flashed before your eyes like one of those old times in movies. It was blurry, but then the images were clear.
Your brows pulled into a deep frown, watching images of a woman—no it was you, but it wasn’t you at the same time. You flinched at the sudden noise that seemed to emit from the scenes before you. You were smiling and laughing, dressing like one of those old-timey clothes with a man. You weren’t sure of who he was at first, but he felt familiar. Upon further inspection, you found yourself gasping.
It was the stranger—he was looking exactly like you saw him, except that he looked happier. You were kissing and laughing while holding onto each other.
“I, Y/N. Take you, Stephen Strange, as my lawfully, wedded husband,” you heard the woman say before she–or you kissed him.
She–no, you and him was standing under the pale light, wearing a long flowing white dress. There was nothing but the soft, flickering amber from the candlelight illuminating. There were no guests, nor anyone else at the altar, except for the two figures. You felt your chest swell with a sudden burst of happiness, but the scenes soon flashed to a much somber one.
You were now laying in bed, looking deathly sick. The man was sobbing and holding onto your hands. Crimson tears rolled down his sharp cheekbones, falling onto your white gown, till it was deep red. He was saying something, but you couldn’t hear it well enough because the scene was suddenly cut short. All you remembered was his eyes–they were as they are now–dark, sad, and somber, marred with dark circles, and brimmed with bloody tears.
A loud gasp slipped past your lips, and you felt your body slowly fall. You expected the pain to shoot through you, but it never came.
You blinked as the darkness that covered your vision slowly slipped away. Dim light slowly pours into your line of vision. Your first image was the man once again, looking at you with a concerned look. His eyes were pale blue, almost too pale, you realized. He looked almost otherworldly, yet he was familiar.
“Are you alright?” He asked. His deep, baritone voice sent a wave of warmness through you.
You frowned when you realized that you were once again back where you were. Tears slipped from your eyes. Your hand slowly reached up with uncertainty to touch his face. The coolness of his skin didn’t shock you anymore as his eyes widened. He opened his mouth to protest, but you felt his whole demeanor shift.
Stephen closed his eyes, savoring the way your warmth felt against his skin. It felt strange, yet familiar at the same time–something that he longed for centuries yet never dared to dream of being this close.
“Stephen…”
He opened his eyes to find you looking at him with confusion. You sounded uncertain as if you were testing the name on your lips for the first time.
“Your name is Stephen Strange, isn’t it?”
He couldn’t utter the words except that he was nodding slowly in admission. He had yet to reveal himself to yet–
“I–” you started, but frowned to find a better word. “We met before, didn’t we?”
“I don’t know what you mean. This is the first time I see, miss. I’ve said it many times before–”
“Your name is Stephen Strange and I was your wife…in another life–I don’t know which one it is, but perhaps a long time ago.” You struggled to understand yourself as words fell from your mouth. Tears were still rolling down your face, and you didn’t understand why. Your chest hurt so badly every time the images flashed in your mind.
Stephen remained quiet as you continued.
“They were your memories, weren’t they–or were they mine?”
Stephen stared at you for a long moment as you struggled to make sense. He wanted to admit it, but he was scared of what fate has in store for him in this lifetime.
“You won’t believe what I have to say,” he finally spoke.
“Why is that?”
“Because I know you,” he said quietly. “It happened so many times that I just know you won’t believe me.”
“What do you mean “too many times”?” you asked as you took a step forward. Stephen found himself stepping back.
He looked around and there were people lingering. “Do you trust me?”
You frowned, unsure why he asked you this but you nodded. A small part of you was afraid though, and Stephen felt too by the way the sickly, sweet scent permeated your body.
Stephen’s lips pressed together into a tight, thin line. If only you knew how capable he was at inflicting worse things than what you feared…
“I have no reason to kill you,” he said softly as if he could read your mind, looking more sad than offended. It was in your nature to fear a creature like him. “I just want to give you the answer that you want.”
“Fine. Then show me.”
Tumblr media
The heavy, wooden doors groaned as he pushed them open, revealing a grand staircase that led up to the darkness. The place smelled of old books and leather. As soon as you stepped inside, the heavy doors slammed shut with a dull thud, startling you in the process.
“What is this place?” you asked softly, yet your voice sounded louder in the silent darkness.
Amber light slowly illuminates the dark, emptiness, revealing rows and rows of floor-to-ceiling bookcases.
“My home,” he said softly.
“So you brought me to your home…to show me what exactly?”
“Do you believe in reincarnation?”
You thought for a bit and shrugged. “What’s that have to do with anything?”
Stephen took a candelabra and motioned you to follow him up the stairs. They creaked beneath your feet as you followed him not too far behind. He briefly turned before holding up the light to reveal a portrait.
Your eyes widened.
“You and I have met many times before over the course of centuries,” he started as your eyes bored into the portrait of you and him, dressing in the exact clothes you saw a moment ago. “The last time we met, we managed to get married and live happily together, until–”
“Until I suddenly died…” you finished his sentence. “I saw it–I died in this house, didn’t I?”
“You died from consumption–tuberculosis in the modern term. We only married for a few months,” he said almost sadly. “I wanted to save you, but I couldn’t.”
“Why?”
“To save you means you have to become what I am, and I couldn’t live knowing that I have made you suffer the same way that I was.”
“So you're just letting me die like that?” you frowned, not understanding his reason.
“We weren’t meant to be together,” he said softly. “The first time I tried to cheat death—to prevent death from happening to you, it made me become this,” he said as he slowly revealed his true form to you.
His eyes were now glowing almost subtly against the dim light. His bluish veins were becoming more visible on the surface of his pale skin. His canines elongated. His fingers were black, his nails sharp almost like claws.
You swallowed the lump in your throat, but you remained where you were.
“The spell that I was trying to cast had somehow doomed me to walk the night, and become this horrid creature. Tell me again why I would want you to suffer the same fate as me?”
“So you just watch me die, over and over again?” you frowned.
“It’s the only way,” he said softly.
“No, Stephen. It’s not the only way. If you love me like you said you do, you would have saved me then instead of wallowing in this self-pity of yours,” you snapped. “I-I just don’t understand why–”
“Your death is an absolute point in the universe,” he cut you off. “No matter what I do, you and I weren’t meant to be together.”
“So you're just going to let it happen like that?”
“Y/N, please you must understand.”
“What do you fear, Stephen Strange?” you asked as you walked toward him till you could touch his face. Stephen closed his eyes and leaned into your touch almost immediately.
“You,” he said softly. “I am afraid of existing in a world without you.”
“But you refused to turn me, and instead you continue to chase after me like this?”
Stephen swallowed for the very first time as if you had hit the nail on the head.
“What are you really afraid of, Stephen?” you asked again.
You could see red liquid pooled in his eyes before he looked down as if he was ashamed to admit it. You cradled his face in your hands and you saw that his crimson tears now stained his pale skin.
“Losing you forever,” he said softly. “I don’t want your existence to get completely erased from the universe, Y/N.”
“Is that what you think will happen if you turn me?”
He nodded reluctantly. Stephen didn’t know about it himself, but he didn’t want to think about it. The fear consumed him far too much and for far too long.
“Don’t you think it’s a little unfair for me to have you make a choice for me over and over again?”
Stephen didn’t say anything. You gently pulled him down until he could feel your breath fanned over his face. Fear no longer permeated off you, but a rather new scent–a tantalizing one.
“Why did you save me earlier if I was fated to die then and there.”
“I just found you,” he said softly.
Your eyes flickered from his down to his lips. You could feel your heart quickening the closer you got to him. “So you wanted to be selfish and save me for a bit before you let me go. Again and again, and again.”
“Please don’t say it like that. I do love you so much that I’m willing to rip this world apart for you.
For a minute, you believed him. You didn’t know the sort of power or ability he possessed at the moment, but you knew he meant it when he said those words.
Without a thought, you leaned in and kissed him. Stephen was surprised but welcomed your kiss. His arm wrapped around your waist, while the other one cradled your face. You shuddered at the way the coolness of his skin felt against yours. He was slow and careful at first. Each movement was precise and calculated as if he was afraid to hurt you.
You moaned into him before you opened your mouth and allowed him to slip his tongue inside. Stephen was still reluctant to completely allow himself to be immersed completely in his desires, but you pushed him.
Oh, you pushed him alright.
Without a thought, you slowly take a few steps back, pushing him until his hard body hits the wall with a soft thud. Stephen gasped in surprise. You could see him smirking for the very first time, and for that small moment, your mouth captured him once again.
You kissed him with urgency, while your hands laid flatly against his chest. You couldn’t feel his heart beating, but you know it doesn’t matter anyway. You weren’t meant to be together so if the universe decided to say “fuck you” to you, you might as well take this opportunity and give him a memory that would last another lifetime.
Your fingers slowly trailed down his body, feeling the way his taut muscles strained and contracted underneath your palms.
Stephen hissed as he felt your hand covering his growing bulge. He quickly pulled away from your kiss and looked into your eyes.
“You are much bolder this time around,” he commented as he took both of your hands in his. Your eyes widened at the realization of how large his hands were.
“I build differently this time around,” you joked before standing to your tippy toe to kiss him again. “I also don’t want to die without knowing what’s it like to have sex with a vampire, so maybe I’m just trying to make a good memory for both of us.”
Stephen’s eyes seemed to soften when he chuckled. He looked more human when he laughed, you realized. He brought your knuckles to his lips and kissed him almost too gently.
“I assure you, it’s not that much different than what you know,” he smirked before he suddenly bridged-carrying you into one of the large rooms.
The candlelight suddenly came to life as you and he entered. Stephen gently laid you down on the large, plush bed before he slowly loosen the tie around his neck.
You were mesmerized by the way his long, thick fingers undone those buttons. Your mouth went dry when he began to undress. Your eyes followed a trail of dark hair that disappeared under his waistband. Stephen noticed your hungry look and chuckled softly before he knelt astride your body.
“Is this some sort of a perk of being a vampire?” you asked as you let your fingers graze over the deep ridges of his abdomen. He didn’t seem to mind, which only encouraged you to explore his body more.
“I’m not quite sure what you mean,” he murmured against your skin as he lazily suckled at your neck.
“Being hot,” you said bluntly, and if Stephen could blush, he would have been a deep shade of red by now.
“Is that what you thought of me?”
You nodded.
“I’m flattered,” he said. Stephen caressed your face almost too gently as he takes in your beauty. Adoration practically poured out of his skin as he looked at you and touched you so gently. “I know we just met and all, but are you sure you want to do this?”
You nodded. “If I’m not meant to exist in this world at the same time as you, then I might as well enjoy it as much as I can. The question is, will you be ok with it?”
“Every moment I spent with you burned into my memories for all eternity, darling. I’m more than ok with this,” he said before he leaned in and kissed you. He didn’t care at all if that made him sound desperate.
He was much bolder now as when he captured your mouth. His tongue thrust into your parted lips, sliding against yours, licking and tasting every part of you until you were breathless.
His fingers moved to the back of your head to position you however he wanted. You melted under the weight of his passion–he was practically devouring you whole. It was possessive and demanding, and you wanted more.
His hips pressed into yours, pinning you against the bed. His erection was prominent and heavy against your lower belly. You moaned into the kiss as your resolve slowly dissolved into nothingness.
You had no idea how much he craved this. Every part of him was buzzing with excitement and needs. He was seeking solace in you–filling the void of loneliness he felt for so long. Touching you like this, kissing and tasting your skin beneath his tongue like this, touched him in a place he never thought still existed. The moment was fleeting for an immortal creature like him, yet it burned into him with a memory that’d last his lifetime.
Tearing his mouth away, Stephen kissed his way down your neck, nibbling and sucking at whatever skin his lips found. You, on the other hand, were restless and impatient as if something had taken over you. You were breathing heavily by the time his mouth wrapped around your breast.
His tongue slid over your taut nipple, licking and swirling around the sensitive nub just enough to make you moan. Your hands moved deftly on their own. Your fingers weaved into his dark, silken strand, tugging and pulling until he moaned deeply into your skin.
Stephen looked up, and you noticed how silvery his eyes were as if they were molten metal, sending goosebumps across your skin. There was something innately predatory in the way he was looking at you, yet it sparked something deeper inside you that made you want more.
You whined softly when his mouth left your breast, leaving you feeling bereft and restless, but that feeling soon dissipated into pure feral needs.
Your eyes flew open when you felt his mouth descend upon your molten core. His tongue glided across your folds with a purpose before he pushed the tip past the slicked seam. A sharp hiss left your lips at the way the coarse hair of his beard scratched against the tender skin of your inner thigh.
Stephen moaned deep inside his chest as his tongue slid inside your quivering heat, penetrating as deep as he could before retreating back. He repeated this a couple of times until he was satisfied before he moved to flick his tongue around your sensitive clit.
His focus was absolute and tuned into your pleasure. Your intoxicating scent permeated the air, making him high, drawing him in like some sort of his own personal kind of drug. He could feel the way your wall fluttered around his tongue, and he knew you were close to your first release. Even then he was relentless.
He fucked you with his tongue in a shallow penetration until the quiet house filled with nothing but the sound of your moaning and panting.
He concentrated and focused on that one spot that made you strain below him, licking and sucking at the bud until you were nothing but a painting mess. It wasn’t long of course. You came not a moment after, clutching onto his head like it was your only lifeline while he continued to feast upon your body.
“Do you trust me, darling?” he asked as he slowly pulled over the edge.
You nodded and watched as Stephen slowly slid his pants down until his cock was visible to you. You were watching of course of pure curiosity about what a vampire dick looks like.
He was long and hard, with a perfect thickness that made your mouth water. Thick ropes of veins ran underside of the length with a promise of a pleasure that was drawn out from the inside.
Your breath shuddered as he stood between your parted legs. His eyes bored into you with that same look earlier, making you shiver and horny at the same time.
You watched as he lined the head of his cock along your aching opening. His chest was broad and oh so sculpted that you regretted not touching him earlier. If you lived to see another day, you’d make sure to let him know that.
Your eyes continued to watch him stroke himself, making his shaft harder and thicker.
“I can’t wait any longer,” he said softly.
“Take me,” you urged him, biting your lips, trying to dull your neediness for him.
His hands pressed you gently before he pushed past your nether lips. The pink, fat tips breached you slowly, stretching you and filling you to the limit. Your eyes fluttered as he surged forward, hard and silken, filling you with torment and relief at the same time.
You shivered and moaned as he pushed deeper into you, sliding through your scorching, tight heat until he buried himself to the hilt, his forehead pressed against yours.
Each slow and tantalizing movement sent a shudder through him that he couldn’t help but offer a gentle smile, revealing the pearly white canine teeth. He looked more like a beast here than a man–the predator that he was meant to be, but his touch said otherwise.
He was careful and slow. Every time he surged forward you could feel every part of your soul ascend to heaven. You felt like you were losing your mind every time he pulled himself all the way out till the tip remained inside, making your body feel bereft and empty for his length.
You swallowed hard every time he pushed himself all the way inside you, knocking all the words right out of your mouth. Your forehead was damp despite his coolness as perspiration dampened your body.
Your hand reached up to touch his face. He was nuzzling into your touch at first, but he shocked you when he slipped your fingers into his mouth.
You didn’t know what to say except to watch. His cheeks hallowed, sucking and drawing on your slender fingers with a steady and rhythmic suction, matching the way he was fucking your pussy with a slow, steady pump.
You gasped at the way the matching rhythm aroused you. You couldn’t think straight at that point. The way he was watching you only made you melt further into the pleasure. Nothing you ever had came this good, and you sure were losing your mind over it.
“I’m going to come,” he panted as his pace quickened. Every thrust seemed to get harder and deeper and the faster he moved, the less sane you’ve become. You wrapped your legs around his waist, pulling him closer. His cock seemed to stroke deeper inside you. His greedy mouth tugged at your skin, building up a pleasure so intense that you came again without realizing it.
Stephen continued to move, faster this time, savoring the way your pussy was squeezing his length. Your body was like it was set on fire, yet not enough all at once as he continued to move inside you with a merciless pace that brought you both pain and pleasure. He hunched over you, caging your body to the bed, thrusting hard until he came with a deep growl.
Time felt like it was standing still as he stood there, spent inside you. At that moment you didn’t care. At that moment you were his once again.
Tumblr media
You woke up slowly, reluctant as you lifted your head off his hard chest. You felt drained, tired, and spent, but in the most delicious way. Your body was sore and ached, yet you felt satisfied.
You opened your eyes and looked up to find his liquid, pale sapphire bored on your with tenderness. You were left breathless for a minute before you flashed him a flustered smile. Heat began to flood your face, and you felt him inhaling deeply.
Stephen felt his nerve on fire once more by the way your sweet, floral scent flooded his senses. He was deeply satisfied, yes, but the innate hunger was still there, craving deeply to taste you. He told himself though that he will wait for you to return home before he feeds again.
“Let me become like you,” you said suddenly.
He looked at you with shock. “You know I shouldn’t–”
“Stephen, listen to me. If you don’t do it now, you won’t know what will happen. What if I walked out of here and just went like that? What will you do? Wait for me, search for me for another hundred years?”
Stephen thought for a long moment, but you knew he was still unsure about this. You sighed and cupped his face in your hands, forcing him to look at you.
“This is my choice, Stephen. No matter what happens, it’s all me. Do you understand?”
He didn’t speak.
“Please,” you pleaded with him softly.
“Are you absolutely sure about this?”
You nodded eagerly.
Stephen stared at you for a long moment, unblinking before he slowly brought your hand up to his lips. He closed his eyes for a long moment, inhaling the way your skin smelled. He could hear the sound of your heartbeat against your chest, slowly picking up speed. You smell warm and sweet, and without much thought, he sank his fangs into your wrist.
You gasped at the sudden sharp pain at first but soon melted into something more. Stephen growled deeply at the rich, intoxicating taste of your blood. You were like everything he knew you were: sweet, floral like honey and lavender. Your thoughts swarmed inside his head like a haze, swirling and floating at the back of his consciousness.
He drank for a long moment, as your body writhed against him in agony and lust. Your blood soothed him from the inside out, calming his weary soul.
Stephen pulled back and quickly cut open his arm with his sharp nail. His dark crimson blood poured out of the long slit and poured into your mouth. Your eyes fluttered as you drank in the way the strange, rich liquid slowly slid down your throat. Your hand blindly reached up to him as your mouth latched onto him.
Stephen could feel your pulse slow down. He counted in his head until he heard the last faint thud of your heart as you went limp. Then he watched, licking the wound on his arm to seal the wound, and he began counting.
Your eyes flew open, your skin hard and cool just like his. You stared at him and he at you. He was the first to reach out and you melted into his touch just like before. Centuries of memories flooded inside your mind–memories of many lifetimes played before you.
Blood rolled down your cheeks as the warmth flooded your unbeaten heart. This was his memories of you–what remained of you for all these times.
“You won’t have to be alone anymore, Stephen. I will be with you for eternity,” you said softly before pulling him down for an assuring kiss. Indeed you’d be with him for eternity.

There for you (pt 2)
Pairing: Stephen Strange x F!reader
Word Count: 1.2k
Content: unrequited feelings, angst, Stephen pining over christine
A/N: I honestly would have left the first part as it is but an idea hit so here it is. Anyways, as I said, either Stephen suffers or you do.
Part one
Tumblr media
Your steps were heavy, it had been an exhausting and hectic shift and yet, you still found yourself making your way to the rooftop. At this point, it’s more to disappoint yourself in hopes that you move on from Stephen. Opening the door to the rooftop, you walked in, smiling at the familiar breeze and cityscape you have come to know and appreciate. That was when your eyes fell onto his figure sitting on the bench, your eyes widening in surprise. Stephen’s shift had ended hours ago. You sucked in a breath, taking a few steps towards him.
“I was hoping to catch you here.” Stephen looked up to you with a smile, handing you a can of coke before taking a sip out of his coffee. You took the can of coke from him, it all felt so surreal, you were half expecting yourself to wake up and find out that you had fallen asleep on your work desk or something. Stephen raised his eyebrows at your frozen state, “I was feeling nice today.” He joked, thinking that your appalled expression was from the fact that he had prepared a drink for you, in hopes of finding you here. You sat down beside him, opening the can of coke with a hiss. “It’s been long since we talked, I missed it,” Stephen admitted, staring into the distance, feeling uncomfortable at your lack of words. “Shouldn’t you be home now? Your shift ended a few hours ago.” You asked, he pursed his lips. “You keeping track of me?” You shook your head, “Christine and I are working overtime for the research study.” He answered.
   Of course, Christine.
“Don’t overwork yourself.” You reminded him. He smiled, “That’s why I’m here, decided to take a break. Christine suggested it too.” You grimaced at his mention of her. Stephen glanced at his watch, “Hey Valentine’s coming. You found anyone yet?” Stephen started, you snorted childishly at him. “I’m single Stephen.” Stephen rubbed his facial hair with his palm, trying to wipe the smile off his face at your tone. “There must be someone you’re into.” He emphasised on the ‘someone’. You looked at him, “What are you planning Stephen. Leave me alone.” You sighed, he stifled a laugh of his. “I just hope you find someone soon. You are awfully single.” He shrugged. “You’re one to talk Stephen, aren’t you single too?” You regretted the question the moment the words left your lips. “At least I had my fair share of relationships and romance, you on the other hand…you don’t even seem to be remotely attracted to anyone.” You smiled, at least that meant you were doing a fantastic job of concealing your feelings. Stephen leaned in closer to you, an action that made you gasp and your heart flutter. “So, is there someone?” He pursued. You looked at him, your face flushing a little. His eyes twinkled in delight, “I knew it! Do I know him?”
You could stare at his features, a soft smile on your face. “Well, he’s cocky and an annoying overachiever but he’s got the biggest heart, he pretends that matters don’t bother him when it does, he pushes himself and strives for excellence in everything he does. But you know something? He’s a coward who refuses to do anything that he isn’t sure he could be the best at and that applies to romance too, he makes me laugh despite having a reputation for being stoic and I’m comfortable around him.”
Stephen raised his eyebrows, giving you a judgemental look before looking away. “What?” You asked. “He sounds like a walking red flag but you do you.” You slapped him lightly on the shoulder, “You talk like you ain’t one.” He shot you an offended look, “Or maybe this guy is great and all. I forgot you tend to give compliments in the form of insults.” he said, laughing a little at the look on your face.
“So what’s his name?” Stephen questioned, he wanted to know who it was that you seemed to be head over heels for, judging from the lovesick look you had on your face when you described the guy. You looked into the distance, frowning slightly. “Shit, it’s raining. I gotta go before it gets worse.” You cursed, you didn’t have an umbrella with you. “It was nice talking to you again Stephen.” you smiled at him before running off. Stephen stood up too, his mind preoccupied with the man that you described as he strode back into his office where he was working on the research study with Christine.
Christine was already at her usual seat, pouring over some files and documents. Christine turned back to greet him. Stephen’s eyes fell onto the window that was being pelted with raindrops, the rain was getting heavier. His eyes then spotted the extra umbrella he had kept in his office.
“I’ll be back soon, just gonna go lend my umbrella to someone.” he said, leaving the office again with two umbrellas in hand while running through the halls of the hospital.
The sound of your name being called out in the rain almost missed you, you unplugged the earphones from your ears before turning around to find Stephen running up to you with an umbrella. “You’re drenched!” He pointed out. “I can see that Stephen.” You told him, he thrusted the extra umbrella into your hand. “What for? I’m already drenched Stephen.” He leaned further into you, trying his best to shelter the both of you from the rain. “Stop being stubborn and use it already.” He scolded. You sighed, glancing down before stepping away from him. You had to do it now, it was no use waiting for him everyday, you had to make the decision of what to do with your feelings towards him. He let out an annoyed huff as he tried to shelter you again, you took another step back, giving him back his umbrella.
“I don’t need it Stephen. Take it back.” He opened his mouth to argue, but you already stopped listening. The signs were clear, you were just a friend to him. Christine is the woman he goes to, listens to and smiles the most with. Whatever you felt towards him was how he felt towards Christine, it was like looking at a reflection whenever he interacted with Christine, it was like how you interacted with him. You bit on your lip, looking away as you felt the tears start to well up, if not for the rain, Stephen would have caught sight of your tears already. You looked at him again, a worried look on his face. You swallowed, you have made your decision.
“Thank you but I’ll deal with it. I’m already drenched, the umbrella is of no use.” You said again, smiling sadly at him. Stephen watched helplessly as you turned the corner while walking under the heavy rain, worried for you.
You wanted to be there for him so you’ll do it.
You’ll do it as a friend and for that to happen, these feelings for him had to be concealed until the end of time and its ok.
It’s ok as long as you’re still by his side

Say Don't Go | Stephen Strange
a/n: i just wanted some angst and here it isssss
Tumblr media
Everything had felt like it was crumbling around you for the last few weeks. The distance he put between you, the quiet which left you almost hollow. You would stare at the front door, beckoning him to walk through it, only for him to let you down. You didn’t know what to do or how to make it better. What was there to say to someone who wasn’t putting in the effort to love you as you deserved to be?
The evenings he does come home, he won’t look at you. He won’t touch you. It’s as though a part of him that once adored you had died and all that remained was this silhouette of a man who used to belong to you. You knew his life was a strangled case of despair, that everything seemed to crumble around him after the accident. But you never expected Stephen to shut you out. You thought there was more to your relationship than this bitterness.
Sitting on the barstool in front of the counter as you finish looking over a case for tomorrow at the hospital, that’s when your heart scatters in your chest at the unlocking of the front door. He stumbles inside, his complexion drained of all color. There is a heap of sorrow sitting in the middle of his back. The weight he carries looks detrimentally heavy and within time, you knew he’d fall to the ground and be crushed by his grief.
“Stephen?” You call out to him. Your eyes trace the outline of his body, his bandaged hands, and the withering of his fingertips as he splays them on the door. You can see him taking in a couple of deep breaths before the sound of his forehead thumping against the wood has you closing your folder and crossing the distance before your brain can catch up.
Standing before him with his back turned to you as it has been every time you see him, you swallow the thickness and blink back the tears. You will not cry in front of him. You promised yourself that you wouldn’t let him see you fall apart.
“Stephen,” you say his name with a little more force.
“What?” He snaps harshly, his head craning to the side. “What?” he asks again when you don’t respond immediately.
“Where were you?”
“I was–” he draws in a sharp breath and stops talking. “Nowhere.”
“Nowhere? Please, Stephen. Spare me. I know you’re hunting like some madman for a cure, some sort of way to fix this situation. When will it stop? When will you let me in?”
Stephen’s shoulders clench. You can see it through his clothes. The tension could be sliced with a knife as thick as it lays between you two. “You couldn’t possibly begin to understand what I’m going through.”
His words stab like a sword, straight to the heart.
And the next words out of your mouth make him flinch.
“I would be able to understand if you’d drop this grieving facade and let me in!”
You wince after the term grieving, knowing that struck a chord in him. He slowly turns to face you and you see nothing but wariness on his features. His eyebrows pinch together as he glances up at the ceiling, forcing himself not to look you in the eye.
“Grieving facade?”
“Stephen, that’s not what–”
“No, no. You don’t get to say that to me! I don’t expect you to understand what I’ve lost because of this damn accident! These hands,” he lifts his scarred hands, deep blooms of red and purple and blue splotching his skin from the surgery. His eyes are glassy but he won’t let them fall, just like he knows you won’t cry in front of him. “Are my life. My livelihood is centered on what I can do with them. I’m a neurosurgeon! The best there is! And now I can’t do what I do best! You wouldn’t understand. You’ll never understand.”
You stare up at him and your body trembles with the desperate need to sob. “You shouldn’t even be here.” he finally pushes past you and leads himself into the kitchen.
“What?” your voice cracks.
“I don’t need you.” He whips around, his face reddening as the anger surges and boils to the surface. “I don’t need you coddling me! I don’t need you waiting here every night for me! I don’t need YOU!”
The words are out of his mouth when the first tear slips free followed by another. And another. And another until his image is completely blurry from crying. That was the final thread, the string that held you two him. He just severed it in two. Your head falls into your hands as you sob uncontrollably, listening as the man that you loved just screamed that he didn’t need you.
You’re not sure what’s going on in the rapidly spinning world but the moment you feel his touch on your shoulder, you find your bearings and flinch away from him.
“I-”
“NO!” You scream. “You don’t get to say that to me, Stephen! You don’t get to hurt me because YOU’RE hurt! That’s why I’m here– to help you! I know how much this accident has affected your life. I know there’s nothing more you love than to be in that operating room, saving lives, and making a name for yourself! I KNOW THAT! But you… You don’t get to say that to me. I can’t believe you said that!”
Stephen’s face morphs into so many emotions but the one that sets in stone is remorse. Shaking your head, you walk over to the counter and grab your folder and purse. “Where are you going?” he asks.
“Someplace where I’m needed since you don’t anymore.”
“Sweetheart, I’m sorry.” Stephen’s voice is tight. “I’m just angry. I-”
Holding up your hand, he stops talking. “Figure it out.”
His eyebrows lift. “What?”
You point a finger at him. “Figure out what it is that will make you happy. Figure out what you need.”
“I need you.” he hisses. “I need you!”
“You should’ve thought of that before you said you didn’t.”
“Am I not allowed to be angry?!” Stephen’s voice roars.
You angrily wipe away your tears as you sling your bag over your shoulder. “Of course you do, Stephen. You’re allowed to fight, kick, punch, and scream. But never will you take that anger out on me, the only person who has stuck by your side since the accident happened! Who’s taken off work to be with you, to help you recover? Who’s cooked for you? Who has ensured you met every appointment, drove you to those appointments, who has loved you through this entire freaking mess?! ME, STEPHEN! ME! I’VE LOVED YOU THROUGH IT ALL!”
Stephen flinches the higher your voice grows. Your chest heaves, a quick rise and fall as your nerves pulse with the need to throw something. You bite hard on your cheek until you taste blood, knowing that if you say anything else, you’ll bury the casket that was once your love for Stephen. You adore him. You love him. But you’ve officially reached your breaking point.
“I need some time to regroup.” You exhale.
“How long will that be?” Stephen dares to ask.
You shrug your shoulders. “I don’t know.”
“I love you,” Stephen says.
His heart squeezes in his chest, waiting for you to say it back. But when you inhale and grab the doorknob, he feels you slip through his fingertips.
“Bye, Stephen,” you say before leaving.
It’s when the door shut behind you and you made it to the safety of your car that you sobbed your heart out.

In Every Universe
Stephen Strange x Reader
Warnings- slight MoM spoilers
(I’m back!)
The sparkle that was once in your eyes had dispersed. You hated it, the feeling of ultimate loneliness. Like you’re the only person in the world with no one around for comfort. You should’ve known when he went to her wedding, he demanded he go, insisting he send his best regards to her and her new husband.
You would never be as good as her, she was everything you would love to be, everything you wish you were.
You should have seen it coming, when your soon to be husband decided to go to his ex’s wedding and later left to travel through the multiverses to protect a child.
You supported him, he was the love of your life, you wanted the best for him, but you would never compare.
Stephen came back and the first thing you did to him was wrap your arms around his neck and hug him, glad he was back home and safe.
There was a change in his demeanor, he looked emotionless as he loosely hugged you back, you pulled away, a small pout painting your face.
“Stephen, what’s wrong?” You grabbed his hand, hoping to bring comfort to him, he pulled away from you, his stare not meeting your eye.
“I’m still in love with Christine.“
Those words made your heart ache, like your stomach was filled with concrete.
You should’ve expected it, you always came second to her, you would never compare to her.
“In every universe, I love her.”
You wanted nothing more than for him to say that about you, you wanted to be the one he talked about like that.
The one he loved in every universe.

little taste of heaven | stephen strange x reader
Tumblr media
summary : you use the darkhold to be with stephen and get a little taste of heaven.
A/N : a little warning: i kinda channelled my anger into this. im sorry, if it's too much. also, ignore my bad writing and english, it is not my first language.
You've always believed there's a thousand more realities where things in your life are different—better, and you've always wanted to trade places with one of your alternates and taste a little bit of heaven. You just didn't know how to reach it. When you learned about the darkhold and the secrets it keeps, you smelled a scent of hope in the middle of your despair.
You've heard about the consequences of using the book of the damned but you don't care. Not anymore. You are tired of having to watch him pining over someone he couldn't have when you're right in front of him. You've made a fool of yourself all those years trying to prove your love to Stephen and he damn well can see it but he just won't let Christine go. The worst part is that you still would do anything for him, even after all the pain he put you through.
You spitted the olives out of your mouth and downed your drink in one gulp before snatching your purse off your lap and sprinted out of the wedding. Stephen asked you—no, he begged you to go to his former co-worker's wedding as his date only for him to cling to Christine for some closure and completely forget about you.
You don't know anyone at the wedding. He could've at least introduced you to Christine and be a gentleman. You wish he would've held you like he held his stupid pride.
"Y/N! Where are you going?" He called out, trailing behind you. It's a miracle that Stephen noticed you storming out of the wedding. He usually would forget about you once Christine is on the frame.
You slammed the door to your room in the sanctum and immediately pulled out the darkhold. You called the candles and they instantly lit up, surrounding you in a circle as you opened the dreamwalking section. The door banged loudly, and you can hear Stephen howling your name from the other side of the door.
You walked through multiple clouds of alternate realities, searching for the one you most desire. A lot of these clouds played an agonizing scene of you leaving Stephen's wedding with your mascara streaming down your face, it made your heart ache.
Your eyes gleamed in felicity when you see a clip of you fast asleep and locked up in Stephen's arm. It looks so peaceful. You went to reach for it but a portal appeared, revealing Stephen.
You laughed, "Still has the heart to check on me, Doctor?"
"I'm sorry I left you all alone, I should've been with you the whole time." He apologized, "Please don't do this. This isn't you, the darkhold is playing with your mind."
"You don't know me, Stephen Strange."
"I do. You're my friend, Y/N."
"I just want you, but you couldn't stop pining over her. What does she have that I don't?" Your voice cracked as tears streamed down your face.
Stephen doesn't give you an answer.
It breaks your heart even more to hear his silence. You performed the spell and felt yourself floating. You let out a long sigh, allowing yourself to relax as you entered your alternate self.
As if just in a blink, you can feel your surroundings shifted. The sheets and strong arms tangled around your naked body makes you feel giddy. You couldn't stop the smile from taking over your face.
"Y/N? Are you okay, sweetheart?"
Hearing Stephen calling your name, made your heart fastened. Afraid you might have slipped away and failed to do the spell but when that sweet word fell out of his mouth, you immediately melted in his arms.
"I'm fine." You sighed, inhaling his scent, you wish you could bottle and get drunk in it every night. "I'm great."
"Are you sure?" He asked, his face slightly concerned. "You were tossing and turning in your sleep." Must've been my alternate self trying to fight me off.
"Just a bad dream, I'm good, fine, amazing!" You assured him.
"For someone who had a bad dream in their sleep, you're a bit silly."
"Well, you can't dwindle over a bad dream all day, can you?"
"I suppose not." He plastered that smirk that makes you weak in the knees and kissed you. It was a quick peck but you threaded your fingers into his hair and pulled him back in for more.
His taste invaded you, making you feel light headed. This is the little taste of heaven you've been yearning for. You could stay here and leave your mess of a life behind and never worry about it anymore.
"Not that I'm complaining, but what has gotten into you?" Said Stephen, panting after pulling out of the kiss.
You chuckled and buried your face in his chest as you carefully listened to his heartbeat.
"Am I dreaming?" You looked up at him. The sun was illuminating his face, making him look ethereal and inhuman.
Stephen doesn't respond. Instead, he pulled you into a passionate kiss and bit your lip, making you winced. "Still dreaming?"
You laughed and playfully shoved him.
"C'mon, I'll make breakfast." Stephen went up to leave the bed but you yanked him back down by his forearm. "Y/N!" He laughed. It is the most beautiful sound you've ever heard.
Stay, your treacherous voice tempted.
You held onto Stephen for your dear life as if he would disappear if you let him go. "Five more minutes."
"I'm not going anywhere." It's true, he's not going anywhere but you are. The spells are not gonna last and you could leave in any seconds now.
"I love you," You kissed him on his shoulder.
"I love you," another kiss on his neck.
"I love you," another kiss on his cheek.
"I love you." a kiss on his lips. You rested your forehead in his, your nose bumping each other.
You can feel him slipping away from you as you hear him say: "I love you."
You fell with a thud as reality shifted back to the way it was and broke down, letting your tears flood the room in your ocean of despair.

‘The best surgeon and the best superhero. But you still didn’t get the girl’
The words lingered and repeated in his mind over and over as he watched the happy couple dance. There he stood, perched up against the bar, draining his martini as he thought and repeated those words over and over again. The number of times he’s repeated that could compete with the amount of times he’d died at the hands of Dormammu.
Turning to the bar for a refill, he didn’t see Christine walk over in his direction for a refill herself.
Clearing her throat, interrupting and snapping Stephen out of his thoughts, she said ‘A glass of red please’ in her pitched voice to the bartender. Stephen, being who he was, interjected.
‘Oh, allow me miss’ he piped, waving his hand over her glass and turning the clear liquid water to blood red wine.
‘Ahhh’
‘A little too on the nose’ he questioned
‘No, for you, at my wedding, nah it’s perfect’ she grinned
‘Congratulations’ he praised as they rose both their glasses and clinked.
‘Thank you’ she said before taking a sip of her wine. ‘Mmm, there’s Charlie. I have to introduce you because he’s kind of, it’s embarrassing but he’s a big fan’ he nodded, laughing at her words ’sooo’ she said as she started to walk away.
‘Yah, ey um Christine’ he said, putting a hand on her arm to stop her from moving any further. Turning back to him, she waited for whatever it was he was going to say.
‘Um, I should have’ he exhales ‘I wish it could have been different. I never stopped caring about us but I had to make sacrifices to protect you and I’m sorry.’ He finished looking down.
Breathing out, she looked at him earnestly ‘It was never gonna work out between us’
‘Why not?’ he asked
‘Because, Stephen, you never loved me.’ She smiled solemnly.
‘What do you mean?’
‘You never loved me like you loved her.’ She explained apathetically. ‘At the time, I would have taken it, but you always had to be the one holding the knife. And I always respected you for it, but I couldn’t love you for it. She did.’ She finished. Digesting her words, he exhales.
‘How long you had that in the barrel?’
‘Long time’ she beamed
‘I bet’ he responded as she took a sip of her drink and placed his on the bar. ‘But um truly, I’m just glad you’re happy’ he said looking at her. He really was genuinely happy for her, it just made him a bit sad. To think that he was alone. Nic’s words returned in his line of thought. But you still didn’t get the girl.
‘I am. I really really am’ she said. He grinned, she really does look very happy and he didn’t want to ruin that for her. She deserved to be happy. And now looking back, he thinks that she never really was happy when they were together, or at least the way she’s happy now.
‘Good’ he said, letting out a laugh.
‘Are you?’ Christine asked. Getting caught off guard, he thought of a quick response.
‘I’m happy’ he said. Truthfully, he was just fine. Content. Happy seemed like a strong word so fine was more accurate.
‘Good’ she said, nodding. Believing his half-truth ’You deserve it’ she said before leaving him be and going back to her husband and other guests. As Stephen watch her walk off, his mind started to wander again.
‘The best surgeon and the best superhero. But you still didn’t get the girl’
‘You never loved me like you loved her’
‘You deserve it’
Did he though. Did he deserve to be happy? Because as Christine so kindly pointed out, He didn’t love her the way he loved you. She was right about that but got a part wrong. Loves her. He knew that. He knows that he still loves you. But the way he ended things with you, the way he hurt you, does he deserve to be happy?
The way he ended things with you, it was, what he did was horrible. He broke the one thing he truly loved the most and others think he deserves to be happy. What he did to you was unforgivable, he thought. He doesn’t…he never deserved you. You were the best thing in his life and he broke and hurt that.
Downing the rest of his drink, he decided to leave. As nice as the place was and as convenient as the open bar is, he needed to leave, and if that meant he had to pay for his own booze then so be it. Tipping the bartender, he went off to say goodbye to Christine.
Finding her with Charlie, he was pulled in a small conversation before saying goodbye to both the bride and groom. After getting his coat and shrugging it on, he left the venue and wandered the streets of New York. He didn’t know where he was going, he just needed to go and get away from that.
As his feet roamed, so did his mind. That was a problem with him, he can never seem to turn off his mind. He thought of your relationship with him. How and why things ended in his perspective and how he thought yours was, from what you told him that night.
He knew he was arrogant and narcissistic, but he believes he’s changed. Changed from that from that asshole that hurt you. Yet he still knows that he was that asshole. No matter how much he changes, he still hurt you. He still broke you and that guilt still weighed heavily on him. No matter what he does, what’s done is done.
He doesn’t have the time stone anymore but if he did, if he still can use the stone one last time, he would change what he did to you. Sure, it would wreak the multiverse but a part of him doesn’t really care. A small part of him, the selfish one will do it, if he gets to have you, he’d sacrifice the world but as he thought of it more, he knows you wouldn’t want that. He knew better. He knows that you’d rather die than let other innocent people be a victim of his greedy selfish need. And he’d settle for that, for you to be alive and apart than for you to die just to be together.
An annoying thought is how when he didn’t have nightmares, he’d dream of you. How you both were happy, how if he never got into the accident and got you back. How you both were still working at Metro General and worked together on patients. He’d dream of that. Sometimes there’d be dreams of Christine but there were more of you, so much more of you. There were dreams where you had a family and sometimes there were dreams where he lost you. He chooses to forget the bad ones but with a memory like his, it was difficult.
He knows of the multiverse. He hoped that there was one of him that was happy with you. One of him that never hurt you. He hoped that there was one of him that was happy.
As he absent mindedly walked, his thoughts drifted further, and he thought back to the cause and effect of the night where he ruined it all.
You were getting paid a bit more in your fellowship that he was. You split the rent in your tiny apartment, but you had a bigger budget, so you paid more. You both agreed that whilst you took care of bills, he was in charge of groceries and food. That worked for you both. You both were happy with that compromise. Occasionally when he had extra cash, he’d pitch in some of the bills and utilities.
As you both were workaholics, either of you were barely home. Now that he sees it, the “compromise” was unfair. You both were always at the hospital so, you barely ate at home. You were paying for nearly everything while he paid close to nothing. You were practically just housing him. He lived off you and either of you realized it.
Days after that fateful night, he discovered that you’d paid a few months in advance on the rent, the bills were all paid and the fridge was fully stocked. When you left, you just packed all things necessary and left. You were paying for everything, the rent, the utilities, food and you left your own damn apartment. Paid months in advance just to make sure he’d still have a place to sleep at most nights. How did he ever deserve you when all he did was use you.
He barely spent a dime for anything the last few months as he was so consumed in his research on the formation of new nerve cells that he barely even left the lab. He barely saw you in the weeks he was focused on the project and spent much of his free time with Christine. The only times he saw you were when he’d see you pass the halls of the hospital or when he’s come home late at night to your sleeping form only to wake up to an empty bed. There were times when he wouldn’t see you for days, whether he came home for a change of clothes and a shower or even a nap, you wouldn’t be there, taking extra shifts so to keep up with the bills.
The problem with Stephen was he wanted better. If the matter could be improved, if the stakes were higher, he’d strive to get to that. That’s how he was with his patients. If the case was too common or standard, he’d dismiss it and give it to another surgeon. He wanted and craved the high-risk procedures and surgeries. He wanted to be the best and with that thought in mind, he needed the best. That habit with the patients slowly contaminated his mind that he inadvertently let it link and connect with his relationships.
In the weeks that lead up to their spilt, Strange has been testing out a theory with Christine that led up to the creation of a laminectomy procedure. His focus on his projects caused him to neglect his current relationship that he barely noticed how awful your health was. His need for the greatest foreshadowed your growing success but he didn’t see that. What he saw was a better woman. A woman of higher rank than you. He saw a woman he was capable to collaborate with while the woman he was with grew her achievements in her own field.
That night, the last time he saw you was a week before. You had to call in a neuro consult for the child you were treating. You barely talked about anything outside work. As he looked back at your state back then, he should have noticed the weight you lost. The dark circles and bags under your eyes. The paleness of your skin and how you could barely stand up. But you still held a smile on your face, the sarcasm that was held in the tone of your voice, how you still managed to make that child laugh. How you played with the instruments to entertain the kid while he did his examination and you cleaned up his wounds. The cheeky grin you wore from the little boys infectious laugh when he played with the little stuff dog pinned to your coat. You were a rain of sunshine, even in your weak state, you were the ray of light that shown through the dark clouds.
When he saw you next was the night he fucked up. He came home to an empty apartment. The lights were off, the place was clean, but you weren’t there. He grabbed a bottle of beer from the fridge as he finally got a night off, he wasn’t on call and he needed a break from the lab. Checking his notifications for the first time in days -because his phone died and he didn’t even bother to charge it-, he had a miss call from you and several from a few other co-workers the day before that was followed by a message saying "sorry" and that "it was an accident". Thinking nothing of the messages, he turned on the tv and found a video of an old surgery by some famous surgeon.
A few beers and a couple glasses of whisky in, he heard the door unlock and saw you walk in. You were deathly pale, your clothes hung sizes too big for your body as you lugged in your bag. He gave you a quick glance to see if it were you who walked through the door then turned back to the tv, not giving you a once over or to ask how you’ve been.
‘Hey, you should see this. It’s Liegeman’s technique in dissecting this beautiful butterfly tumor performed by Julia Schinner. It flawless, come look.’ He said waving you over. Hobbling over you place your bag on the coffee table next to the bottles of beer. Sighing, you picked them up first and put them on the sink before returning to the couch. Carefully sitting down, you leaned back, closed your eyes and let out a loud exhale, drawing his attention from the screen.
‘You okay?’ he asked. You gave him a serious look, brows furrowed before a look of disbelief overtook you. Pain reflected in your eyes and your mouth gaped before answering him.
‘Yah um, yah, I’m okay’ you said before leaving the relief of the couch and getting yourself a glass of water. You looked exhausted. You kept holding your head and grabbing a chair or the wall to stabilize yourself. Your movements were slow and unstable, wobbly. You drained the glass in one go before bracing yourself on the counter. You refilled the glass before staggering back to the living room and heading straight for your bag. Rummaging through the bucket bag, you pulled out a couple pill bottles. Stephen watching the whole occurrence, looked confused when you pulled out the containers.
‘What are those?’ he asked
‘You’re a doctor, you should know these are pills’ you said sarcastically, taking one of the containers, shaking it before pulling out a few tablets.
‘What are they for?’ he said sternly, more serious, not at all amused by your sarcasm.
‘Again, doctor pills are chemicals or compounds used to cure, halt, or prevent disease. They can ease pain, symptoms or help with the diagnosis of illnesses’ you answered textbook, before popping the tablets in your mouth and draining the glass again. Your eyes were closed as you dropped your head back, letting the medicine work. Stephen, a bit tipsy and frustrated with your bullshit, set his glass down and snatched the bottles you’ve placed on the table and read the labels. Ibuprofen, Ambien, Acetaminophen. Pain and sleeping pills.
‘What are you doing with these? He questioned. He didn’t have the faintest idea why would have these. He should have but he was too ignorant. You were always okay, you rarely ever got sick so being his unmindful, selfish self, he didn’t even consider you were sick.
‘None of your business’ you say, slowly standing up, bracing yourself on the table because your legs were a bit wobbly. Closing your eyes again, swaying a bit and letting out a breath. You looked dizzy. Once you’ve stabilized yourself, you picked up your glass and looked to Stephen, putting your hand out.
‘No. And what do you mean “it’s none of my business”’ he said strictly, moving the hand that held the bottles out of your reach. Grunting, you reached to get to the bottles, but he moved them away again.
‘Give them to me’ you whined ‘Why do you care anyway?’ you said, you moved to get it again, but he kept them out of reach.
‘What do you mean “why do you care anyway”, I am your boyfriend aren’t I?’ he countered heatedly.
‘Yah, yes you are, the one I rarely see. The one that only comes home per his own convenience. The one that I slave for and get absolutely nothing in return. The one that doesn’t even ask how I am, when I at least walk through the doors or when I slump down on the couch. Yah you’re the fucking one’ you snap, pulling away from getting the pills. You ran a hand through your face and up your hair, taking a deep breath before letting it out. Shaking your head, you turned, moving towards the kitchen again.
‘Where are you going?’ he asked, the heat in his voice from earlier grew ‘We aren’t done here’ he continued, and receiving no response from you, he stood up from the couch, dropping the pill bottles and grabbed your arm forcefully, making you look at him.
‘You don’t get to say that and walk away’ he seethed, his grip on your arm tightening and if it weren’t for the cardigan you wore, he was sure he would have seen a bright red bruise, the shape of his hand. He should have noticed how thin your arm was. How he could almost close his fist if it weren’t for your slim limb. How before, whenever he’d grab you by the arms, either to pull you in for a kiss and hold you still or to stop you from rushing to the immediate danger, his fingers could only meet whereas now or then, his nails are digging into his palm.
You winced. At how tight he was gripping your arm, he wasn’t surprised but what he saw in your eyes, he knew he was breaking you. The look haunts him in his dream. The look of tiredness. Of giving up. You didn’t even pull away nor did you answer. You just looked him in the eyes as your eyes started to well up.
Having enough, you hit his hand away from your arm. ‘Why the hell not!’ you yelled, moving away from him before he could even touch you again. You placed your glass in the sink and turn the water on. Stephen followed you in and as you were about to reach for the sponge, he quickly grabbed it before you could and threw it away. You looked at him wide eyed, furious.
‘What the fuck is wrong with you’ you fumed. You looked at to where he threw it, but he blocked the way.
‘No what the hell is wrong with you’ he raged. You open your mouth to answer but he cut you off
‘NO! This is the first break I’ve had God knows how long, without being on call and THIS’ he said, waving around his hand in gesture as emphasis on the word and point ‘isn’t how I planned on spending it so don’t make this about you!’
You laughed. Cackled actually. It sounded an awful lot like a witch or a villain in a movie, cackling as they conceived their evil plan. You were laughing so hard you doubled over which confused Stephen so much at the time. This wasn’t the laugh he loved to hear from you whenever you found something funny or when he tickled you to death. No, this laugh was full of rage and anguish and pain. This wasn’t you. You both were practically at each other’s throats, screaming your lungs out. Why were you laughing? He thought then.
‘Oh my god’ you managed to squeeze out in between fits of giggles. Once you had yourself together, you looked him in the eyes, wiping the tears that started to fall and shine your cheeks.
‘You arrogant, narcissistic, self-absorbed, egotistic, ASSHOLE!’ you laughed at the start but screamed at the end. To say Stephen was shocked would be an understatement. In fact, there were no words in any dictionary to describe what he was at that moment but to put it simply and as close to a description, he was stunned. Never in his life did he ever expect you to ever call him names he’s ever only heard from other people and when you heard them, you always defended him, but to hear it from you, hurt him.
There he stood, wide eyed as looked him in eyes, no remorse, no regret, no shame. You meant what you said and you weren’t taking it back. What hurt him was that, after all the years you defended him and stood by his side, you finally believed what they said. He knows it was true, at least now, he realizes how true those word were. How horrible he treated you when all you did was take try to take care of him. He knew he was stubborn, he knew that it was impossible to make him do something he didn’t want to, so you took care of him the only way left you knew how to.
The pause that lingered in the kitchen was haunting, like everything stood still as you waited for him to digest what you said. Call it dramatic, it might have been, but he needed that to be drilled in his head. Having decided that brief time was enough you continued.
‘You don’t even care how tired I am, do you. You think you’re the only one that hasn’t had a fucking break in weeks, hell MONTHS! I have been taking extra shifts, practically living in that hospital just so I can pay the fucking bills because news flash, you haven’t given me shit in months. I let it pass because I know how busy you are with your new projects and I am fine with that, the research your doing could save countless numbers of people and I am proud of the work you’re doing, but did you even stop to think of the rent you agreed to split with me because I don’t think you have. I have been paying for everything in this broom closet of an apartment and I have been cleaning and buying the food which was your task. Even if we spend more time at the hospital than here, I have kept the fridge stocked with the beer you just love to dive in to and food, just so you could come here, whenever you please or is convenient for you and finish it all.’ You screamed, pacing the kitchen, opening and pointing to the food that stocked the racks of the refrigerator to emphasize the point.
‘The hours of overtime I have taken couldn’t even compete with the number the other fellows in my year have taken, combined.’ You continued, slamming the door of the fridge and leaving the kitchen. ‘I don’t see you for days, weeks because your too holed up in the fucking lab of yours to remember anything else besides maybe Christine’ you seethed through gritted teeth. Stephen, having followed you from the kitchen, still stunned by your livid demeanor, listening to you confess about the hard labor you had to endure, snapped at the mention of Christine. She didn’t have anything to do with this, why were you bringing her into it.
‘DON’T! don’t you bring her into this. She has nothing to do with how hard you’re working or our living situation. You don’t get to drag an innocent person in the fight because you’re jealous.’ He said, narrowing his eyes as he stared right at you. He was filled with uncontrolled rage that he lifted his hand out of reflex. From how you were at each other’s throats, you flinched. You flinched at his quick movement and backed away. Far away from him. Afraid that he might hit you.
When he saw how you scrambled away from him, he looked for the cause and saw his hand, hovering mid-air. Turning back to you, he saw fear reflect in your beautiful eyes and that chipped away a piece of him. He would never hurt you.
As Stephen now realized, he just laid a hand on you. How tight he was gripping your arm just moments before, hurt you. It amazes him how even he manages to surprise himself with new fact about him. How brilliant he was at lying to himself.
Far away from him, you stared at each other. As the silence grew louder, you started to laugh all of the sudden. A small snicker really, as tears rimmed your eyes. A hand flew to your mouth to muffle the sound as the tears started to spill. You closed your eyes as a half assed attempt to stop the well of tears from overflowing, but it was no use. Tears seeped through your eye lids at a never-ending pace as you bowed your head down to hide the pain you were in from him.
Seeing you break down, broke him. Not as much as you were hurting but it still chipped another part of him. Then, he looked like he didn’t care, that he was breaking you but he knew deep down that it was killing him.
You’ve been with him for years. Since college in fact. Whenever the other students would pick on him for being too brainy, you defended him. Even through med-school, you’d sit by him in the library, pouring over books or when eating lunch, you exchanged notes from the same class to see what the other missed and found out. You knew each other like the back of your hands but never has he ever seen you so broken like this. And the thought that he was the one that caused that hurt, everything inside him was screaming to stop it, to stop hurting you but his mind was too clouded and full of shit to hear any of it.
Getting yourself together, straightening up, you looked at him again. Straight in the eyes.
‘You really don’t give a shit do you. I am not dragging Christine anywhere. You know the only reason I know you’re alive is because she messages me how you’re doing or whenever id see her in the ER, she tells me where you are or where you’ve been. I have been trusting that woman to take care of my boyfriend because he’s too focused on her to even care about me.’ You sobbed, grabbing the arm of the couch to stabilize yourself.
‘Yah sure, I’m jealous. I’m jealous that she gets to see and spend more time with you that I do. That she doesn’t have to kill herself to take care of you. That she actually gets to talk to you almost every day when all I get -in the rare chance that I actually stop you enough to stay in front of me for five minutes- is a few grunts, nods and ahms. I am not dragging her anywhere Stephen. I am merely acknowledging her as it seems she is more in a relationship with you than I am.’ You finished, exhausted from arguing with him but he didn’t care -not then-, no, he decided on adding more salt to the already gaping wound.
‘Well, if you’re so tired of this relationship then why not end it then.’ He said seriously. Tears that continuously fell on your cheeks started to pour. The droplets helplessly clinging on to the soft surface of your skin as it glided along the too sharp features of your thinner face. The beautiful sparkle of life that lit like a candle in your eyes were nothing but the glistening well of tears that you so desperately held back. You stared at him for a while before swallowing a lump on your throat and you nodded.
‘Fine. It’s over. Were done’ you said impassive. What shocked Stephen -as you continue to do so- was the lack of fight. It seemed laughable at the time, how weak you seemed to him then. But now, all he could see was how you had given up.
You walked away to the bedroom to pack all the clothes you could fit in your suitcases. You only took the necessities and made your way back to the living room. He had sat down after you left the room. Staring passively at his empty glass. Only looking up when he heard the bedroom door close and your footfalls. He watched as you snatched your bag from the coffee table and bent down to get the pill bottles. He should have noticed how you were holding on to the arm of the couch. Clutching on it for dear life as you steadied yourself. He should have noticed your fragile state. Maybe he did but what he didn’t do was call it out to you.
Throwing the bottles in the bag, along with a few of your things from the living room, you moved the cases to the door, checking around if you needed anything else. Stephen just watched silently as you packed up and got ready to leave him. He should have said something. Stop you. Anything. But he was stupid. Watching as you looked around the apartment before giving him one last look. Your eyes were puffy and red. Tears were welling up your eyes as you gave him your final words.
‘I hope you finish your projects, Stephen. I know you’ll be a brilliant doctor, the finest of our age. What your doing is good. It will save a lot of people. Just, I hope you figure it out because the amount of time you spent for your research on that, I hope it was worth losing our relationship for it. But most of all, I hope you fix that attitude of yours Stephen because, you deserve to be loved. But no one will if you keep putting your ego on top of everything else. If not for your sake then at least for Christine. She cares about you and she’s good for you. Maybe even better than me. Just don’t screw it up Stephen because, caring, let alone loving you, is so damn hard, not a lot are willing to take the chance to even handle to be with you anymore. Just please, do me one last favor and fix that. For me. Please.’ You said pleading to do this one last thing for you.
‘Goodbye, Stephen’ you said one last time, before walking out that door and his life.
As much as it hurt him to watch you walk out that door, he acted as if he felt nothing. There was no one else in the apartment, he didn’t have to keep up an act. Yet he did, he didn’t know why but he knew he was lying to himself because everything in him was screaming, to get his head out of his ass and get you back but he just sat there.
He stared at the door for a while before turning back to the tv screen. At some point the video was paused. The image of an open brain, just as a small amount of blood started to pool on the exposed surgical field of the right hemisphere was shown on the screen. He remembered feeling numb. His chest felt heavy and his mind was racing but he chose to ignore it and over analyze the exposed brain on the screen.
Despite how much it pained him to watch you leave him, it didn’t compare to how the information he was about to learn, hurt him.
When he got back to work a few days later, he saw a lot of the staff giving him dirty looks. Grimacing whenever they got close to him or the clipped conversations he’d have with the nurses and doctors. He tried to ignore the stares, the whispered conversation as they looked at him.
By some miracle and eventual mistake, he decided on getting lunch. That’s when he found out the cafeteria was much worse battlefield. He remembered how when he walked in, all conversation seemed to stop and all eyes moved to stare at him. The air seemed as tight as the tension for him. He walked as the silence continued. Everybody staring at him, scrutinizing his every movement, as he picked up a piece of fruit and a serving of the salad. Even the lunch lady didn’t look pleased with him.
He remembered how they continued to stare at him as he sat down. How whispered conversations were exchanged as he ate his greens. Halfway through his salad, everyone seemed to have gotten bored at staring at him, but the hushed conversation continued. He was deliberating leaving and going back to the lab, but he was surprised by Christine joining him.
‘Surprising seeing you here Strange’ she said taking a sip of her drink
‘I’m beginning to think it was a mistake’ he said finishing off his apple. Christine opened her mouth to answer back but as group of doctors and nurses -one he’s noticed are from the pediatric ward- passed his table, he heard his name mentioned followed by unkind words. Interrupting Christine, he snapped and finally confronted them.
‘If you have something to say about me, why not share with the class’ he snarled at the group, causing them to stop in shock. They stared at him before looking at each other with an irritable expression before coming out with it.
‘Shame on you Strange. You just lost us out best and kindest doctor. That project of yours better be worth it if it came at the cost of one of our best doctors’ the fellow -he noticed that was the same year as you- said.
‘You never deserved her. How you treated her, you never deserve her. She deserved better than you, than to be used and worked to death, all for nothing’ another doctor seethed. A scowl printed their faces as they walked away, leaving a very confused Strange at their wake.
He noticed the whole cafeteria staring at him with the same glare. Having enough of it, he disposed what was left over of his food and left the place, Christine following in suit to the labs.
‘What the hell was that all about’ he lashed out.
‘You really are a stupid jackass’ she said, leaving Stephen in shock and stare. A lot of women were saying that to him at the time and he now understood why ‘You don’t know?’ she questioned
‘Know? know what?’
‘You really are an asshole. Y/N left. She quit. Gave her notice 2 days ago.’
Stephen stared. He wanted to say he was surprised, come to think of it, what did he expect. A part of him was getting tired of the constant shock and surprise revelations coming from you. Another thought this was a joke, that he’d still see you around the hall, playing with the kids you were treating.
‘I don’t know what happened when took your day off that led you to drive her away but from what I’ve seen, she sure as hell didn’t deserve it.’ She said, turning away from him.
‘A lot of people are saying that. What the hell do you know of what happened’ he growled, furious of people’s opinions on his relationship.
‘We know enough. We know that she’s killing herself for you and you don’t even give her a second of your time or glance.’ Christine turned to him, seething. Venom and anger seeping through her words as she reprimanded him. Stephen turned away from her as she continued, having heard enough of that tone in women.
‘You didn’t even answer your phone or bother visit her when she got admitted’
Confusion lined his face as he snapped his attention back to her.
‘Admitted? What do you mean admitted?’
‘She collapsed four days ago. Exhaustion. They were doing rounds when she just fell. They admitted her for the night. She slept for 15 hours before she woke up. She wanted to go back to work but Shirley and Chief Richards refused and made her rest, so she just insisted on going home the next day. Not wanting to take up a bed.’ She explained dejectedly.
He felt numb as he stared at Christine. His mind piecing together everything. The pills. Your weak state. It all made sense to him now but not once did it make him feel better.
‘They called you. Everyone did. But when you didn’t answer the first call, she told everyone to stop. She even made an excuse for you. Saying you were busy or was probably sleeping.’ She continued ‘she told everyone not to bother you. I was gonna but I was swamped in the E.R. Everyone visited her but you. Roberts even stayed with her. Didn’t want her to be alone like some people.’ She finished before storming out of the lab.
He just stood there in shock. Alone. His body felt numb, feet weighed by block cement as he tried to come to grips with the information he learned. You were admitted for the night, collapsing due to exhaustion. They called him but again, his phone was dead. Your stubborn ass wanting to go back to work afterwards. You came home, still exhausted, to be screamed at and leave. He repeated that over and over, to this day. It haunts and weighs on him every day.
God, he wondered what happened after you walked out the door. Where you went after.  He was scared for a moment at the prospect of you on the ground, dead but was reassured when he remembered that you handed in your notice after.
He remembered snapping out of his thoughts, quickly got a tablet and looked at the record of admissions. He put in the day and found your chart. He remembered how he felt the blood drain from his face when he saw your record.
Patient had been asleep for the past 12 hours since the collapse. She has been given fluids for severe dehydration. Patient’s immune system is weak due to extreme undernourishment and will be given the right nutrients once conscious. Patients heart rate is slower than normal and is under observation.
He read, skipping to the most recent note and summery.
Cause
Exhaustion, Lack of sleep and food, Dehydration, …
That chart is forever printed on his mind. The causes continued on, the medication you were given listed and some other technical stuff was branded in his mind. He couldn’t help but blame himself. At the time he acted like it didn’t affect him, like he wasn’t struggling with carrying the guilt in what happened to you.
You were so kind and he did nothing. You were killing yourself, but he was too self-absorbed to even care about you. He could have taken the time to make you rest, spent time out of the lab to do the extra shifts. The list of what-ifs continued on as he did.
Snapping back to the present, the sun had started to dip down the horizon. He’s been wandering the streets of New York for a while now. Getting out of his mind long enough, he finds a bar, decent enough to look like it has good alcohol and not too big to be too loud so he can sulk in his mind.
The place is dimly lit, private booths lined the walls and tables scattered everywhere else. Finding the bar standing in the middle of the far wall, luminated only by the small light bulbs overhead, he made his way over.
‘A glass of Macallan, neat.’ He said, perching himself on a stool in front of the bar. The bartender nodded before moving to fix his drink.
Downing the glass in one go, he asked for another before looking around the room. A stage stood to the right; a spotlight directed to a mic in the middle of the platform. The tables in front were filled, eagerly waiting for the awaiting performance.
He was given his drink just as the host was entering the stage. Turning back from the applause and the over enthusiastic voice arousing the crowd, he took a sip of his drink before spinning his finger on the rim of glass, planning to wallow and sulk back in his thoughts. This wasn’t as quiet as he thought.
Before he could continue on thought, his ears picked out a name he hasn’t heard in a very long time.
‘Now without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome a dear friend of mine, Y/N Y/L/N!’
Turning to the stage, he watched as the applause roared, seeing the spotlight move as you entered with a bright smile on your face. You waved to the small crowd, making your way over to the middle of the platform where the mic stood.
His heart skipped a beat, breathing hitching when he heard that sweet voice he had longed for a very long time. He watched as you stood there, in all your beauty and introduced yourself.
‘Hi everybody’

Where is my love?
a/n: can you tell how much I adore angst? Idk how i feel about this one, but i kinda like it??? Hope you’ll enjoy <33
summary: Stephen finds himself in a different universe. He goes to the Sanctum Sanctorum where he meets someone who’s been long gone, you.
pairing: Stephen Strange x variant!reader
word count: 1.8k
warnings: hurt no comfort, angst
Tumblr media
The darkness around him felt heavy, oppressive, almost surreal. He was in New York, but it was nothing like the city he knew. Silver moonlight broke through heavy, dark clouds showing him even more of an atrocity that he wasn't able to see at first. A few mockingbirds were sitting on a dead tree, they tried to sing, but the sound that came out was almost like screams of tortured souls. This universe was rotten down to its core, even howls of the wind were dreadfully unwelcoming. He was pretty sure that he got stuck in an empty universe with no one to help him.
He walked through vacant streets wondering what happened to this place. All of the buildings were destroyed, with no grass on the ground, only dirt. Street after street of abandoned houses drowning in the darkness of this world looked the same. Each house was once a home, a home belonging to a family and now there was only hollowness and coldness. If there was hell he was sure that this was exactly how it looked like. The closer he got to the Sanctum Sanctorum the quieter the world got, even the wind seemed to be gone. When he finally saw the building shivers went down his spine, he had never seen so many dead birds laying around one place. He was never the one to believe in bad omens but this one made him want to turn around and run as far away as he possibly could. The dead bird is considered to be a symbol of discontentment, loss, grief and hopelessness. They also symbolise that the place that you're in is unsafe and he was aware of that. He looked at one of the birds lying next to his feet and noticed something on its crown, a symbol that he has seen only once before, in the book about the darkest magic. It looked like whoever did this was in possession of the darkhold and what was even worse, knew how to use it. He took a few deep breaths and walked towards the doors. If there was a way for him to come back to his universe it was through objects and books from the Sanctum. As he approached them the smell of rotten corpses was unbearable. Whatever was inside was probably as vile and wicked as what was outside.
Before he was able to push the door open, a portal appeared underneath him causing him to fall. He hit the wooden floors of the building's hallway. He immediately stood up ready to fight the person that opened that portal, but he was alone. His only companion was the silence that allowed him to hear his shaky breath. Much to his surprise, he didn't smell the corpses anymore but the sweet, familiar scent of paperwhites. He decided to follow it and as he did he entered the living room that looked just like the one in his New York except it was messier. He looked around and found plenty of ancient magic books tossed around the tables, some artefacts and a few weapons. What got his attention was a small frame laying on the floor a couple of metres away. It looked oddly familiar. He wiped out the thick layer of dust that revealed a broken glass underneath which was a picture of you and him. He was always happy while being next to you. No matter where his life was taking him as long as you were near he felt safe. Tears formed in his eyes, in his universe you were gone, you sacrificed yourself for the universe. Another version of him probably went through the same loss. Lost in the memory of you he didn’t hear someone coming down the stairs.
“Hello, Stephen” this voice, the one he would recognize anywhere, yours.
His eyes widened, you looked nothing like he remembered, you were tired, no, exhausted. Dark circles were under your fatigued eyes. Your face was sickly colourless, almost corpse-like. He was carefully analysing your features. He didn’t even realise that a sad smile formed on his face. You walked towards him and for the first time in this universe, he felt comfortable.
“y/n,” he said, trying not to break down in front of you. He missed you dearly. Back at home, he thought about every possible way to bring you back or at least to let him say goodbye. He tried to touch your cheek but you stopped him by grabbing his wrist. That’s when he noticed your fingers. They were black, cursed by the magic of the darkhold.
“Why?” he asked you.
“There was no other way” you stated. Before you were able to continue you got interrupted by coughing up your blood. “Fuck” you mumbled to yourself.
“It’s killing you,” Stephen said, it was obvious how concerned he was. You weren’t his, but he couldn’t bring himself to act like he does not care.
“I know” you responded.
“Then why? Why are you using the darkhold? I’ve seen this world… it’s almost dead” his voice was a little shaky.
“Because as I said there was no other way” you don’t remember the last time that you said anything and considering your health condition it was a miracle that you still were able to do so. “We fought against Galactus, we were losing. If we’d lost that day the whole multiverse would have paid a horrible price for it. You absorbed the power of all six infinity stones just to buy me a little time” you chewed on your lower lips nervously as you felt tears filling up your eyes. “You distracted him and I tried to trap him in a pocket dimension but he was too powerful already. I managed to do so but…” you took a deep breath.
“But even the spell from the darkhold wasn’t enough to keep him locked up. You have to protect it” he finished your sentence.
“Yes, that’s why I look like this” you turned your head and felt disgusted as you saw your reflection in a window.
“Did… I leave you?” he asked anxiously.
“In a way,” you said and he felt his heart stop. How could he leave you knowing the price that you had to pay for keeping the multiverse safe? “You couldn’t handle the power of all the infinity stones. I killed you and destroyed all of them except for the time stone” you explained. “I kept the time stone so I can be here and protect the spell” you continued.
“You’ll be here until the end of everything?” he tried to touch you again and this time you allowed him. The feeling of his palm on your shoulder made you grin.
“Yes,” you sighed knowing that all that you can expect is pain and suffering.
“You don't deserve this, you deserve the world. That’s not how things should be for you” he said, his voice shaking.
“Where am I in your world?” you asked and just by the expression on his face you knew the answer “Sometimes we need to put ourselves aside Stephen. I’ve had plenty of time to learn about the multiverse and us. In every universe, one of us, if not both, has to deal with eternal sacrifice. I wish it wasn’t like that, I wish there was at least one version of me and you living a happy life” you smiled at him. “But I don’t think it’s meant for us”.
He would love to say that you were wrong but he’d be lying. He was trying to remember if he ever dreamt about you laying in bed playing with his hair and not having to deal with any sort of threat. His dreams were always the same, either you or he were dying.
“Can I ask you about this picture?” he pointed at the frame he found earlier.
“That was the day you proposed. We went to my favourite restaurant in Italy…” you closed your eyes and gulped. “I miss my Stephen, every day. Being here all alone isn’t helping with that, but trying to change anything is just a pointless resistance to the destiny” you coughed again. “I miss you too. I mean my version of you. I had all of you and then none of you, in just a few seconds I lost everything. I didn’t even get to say goodbye. I watched you die and I couldn’t do a thing about it” he said.
“I’m so sorry” you gently cupped his cheek and looked into his eyes. After a moment of hesitation, you placed a gentle kiss on his temple.
“You came here because you need to get out, right?” you said. You could read his thoughts, this one was buried deep down, almost hidden. Not from you, but from him.
“I don't think I want to” he responded.
“I can help you” you stated. “I know a spell that can open a multidimensional portal. It will send you home” shy smile formed on your lips. “How is your universe?” you asked.
“It’s beautiful. I wish I could show it to you” he grabbed your hand. “Leave this universe, leave with me, please” he was practically begging you.
“If that was an option for me I’d do it ages ago. If I leave and the spell breaks…I can’t afford that risk. I’ve carried the burden of the darkhold on my shoulders and I’ll do it for as long as I’ll have to. You see Stephen, everyone in the multiverse plays a part. I wasn’t born to be happy and have my little, sweet, dreamy life. I was born to suffer, take burdens and cause destruction. That’s how it is, was and always will be, all so the others can live in a peaceful world. The same goes for you” you sighed. “You're not meant to stay with me. My death was an absolute point in your life and yours was an absolute point in mine. We can not change it.”
“I know,” he said. You walked towards the large windows and within one swift move of your hand, you created a circle out of candles. He walked into it and stood next to you, your bodies inches apart. “I want to try something,” he said and pulled you into a kiss.
“Thank you” you wished you could keep the warmth of his lips forever. “Once I start we won’t have much time left. I want to say goodbye”
“This is our last goodbye, isn’t it?” he asked.
“I’m afraid it is” you answered and he nodded. Dark mist filled the room and you began to cast the spell. His eyes weren’t leaving yours until the light beam blinded him.
He was on his earth surrounded by so many people and yet he felt lonely. Then he noticed something in his palm, a paperwhite from the sanctums living room on the other earth, a symbol of hope.

— ONE
It was a well-known fact that New York was a hot spot for superheroes and supervillains. In fact, it was a common occurrence to wake up to your car smashed to pieces and explain to insurance, “No, this isn’t my fault! It was the purple alien dude.”
Honestly, some people moved to New York just because they liked the thrill of almost dying — or the chance to hook up with one of the heroes.
You didn’t care for either. Rather, you liked the aesthetic of budding coffee shops, high fashion, and maybe the occasional hero.
Now, that certainly didn’t prompt this.
When you ordered your coffee this morning, you had intended on drinking it. The world, it seemed, had other plans. Mere seconds after you were handed your drink, someone came flying through the glass, and your drink was not spared. Whoever it was managed to crash right into you, but with a quick flick of their hand, keeping you both upright. That is after the coffee spilled.
“I’m so sorry about that miss,” He apologized, and you just shake your head.
“It’s fine,” You assure, finally looking up. To your surprise, you find that Dr. Strange is a rather good-looking man. In fact, you never noticed his striking blue eyes or the curve of his nose. And now that you realize you notice these things, maybe you’re standing a little too close together.
The sorcerer claps his hands, and the coffee disappears from both of your clothes. He opens his mouth to say something more when whatever is chasing him starts shooting. He immediately grabs you and hides you behind him, using the cape as a shield.
You watch in slow motion as Dr. Strange spreads his hands and orange sparks fly from between them.
“Like what you see?” He asked.
You’re quick to quip back. “Liked you better when there wasn’t a space alien shooting at us.”
“Once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
“Yeah, I wonder why.”
Dr. Strange chuckles before lassoing the alien in a few quick motions and stepping away from you. He opens a portal, pushing the creature through before flying away to take care of the rest. Now, maybe you imagined it, but you could’ve sworn he looked back at you for a second. Not that it mattered, he was probably just surveying the scene of the coffee shop.
Your favorite coffee shop which was now going to be closed for quite a while, given the damage. You huff, so much for superheroes.
— TWO
“Come on!” You shouted to no one in particular. You pressed on your horn again, trying to see around the car in front of you. There seemed to be no end to the traffic. You couldn’t think of a reason for traffic at this time either. It was way past rush hour and a Tuesday night. Where could all these people be going?
You frown, about to get out of your car, when something slams into you from behind. You jolt forward, feeling your head smack against the steering wheel.
You groan, holding it in your hands, about to turn around and confront the reckless driver when you see it.
An octopus crossed with an eyeball, grabbing people's cars and throwing them off the bridge. You panic, grabbing the handle of the door and pushing hard. Fortunately, it gives way, and you get out and run. Of course, you’re not the only one with this idea, and you quickly run into the problem of many car doors opening and many people moving. You can hear the thing getting closer, and you’re pretty sure the car next to you is next. Your heart slams into your chest as you spin around, looking for an escape. Option one was you could jump off the bridge, and while that would warrant an escape, it would not ensure your survival and that was kind of the goal. Option two was to run back where you came from and hope you don’t look too much like octopus food today. You don’t have time to make that decision though.
In an instant, one of its tentacles comes sweeping across your feet, and you scream, running back towards your car. It seems you peaked the creature's interest though, as it grabs you by your leg and lifts you into the air.
You scream and thrash in its grip, hitting its slimy arms and trying not to gag at the giant eye.
“Please,” You whimper as it pulls you closer.
Death by giant eyeball was not your plan.
You screw your eyes shut when its blinking eye is right in front of your face. Almost like it’s sizing you up for dinner.
Then, there’s the sickening sound of something being cut, and you’re free-falling back down towards the bridge. Almost as fast, something grabs you and lurches you back into the air.
You’re suspended above the bridge, a red cape wrapped around your shoulders and slowly lowering you towards the ground.
“Oh my god,” You gasp when your feet touch the ground.
And then you’re doubled over, emptying your stomach, when a hand grabs your hair to hold it back.
“Is it a mere coincidence that I’m saving your ass again?” A cocky voice asks.
Once you finish puking, you turn to face the sorcerer, frowning. “I just puked my guts out, and that’s what you open with?”
Honestly, you weren’t that annoyed, in fact, maybe your heart was racing for a different reason. There was no doubt you now find Dr. Strange to be a little bit more attractive than you remembered, but pile on that he remembers you from the coffee shop?
Oh yeah, the bar is low.
“Did you want me to comment on the color of your stomach contents?”
You sigh. “No.”
“Maybe a thank you is better,” He suggested with a grin.
You cross your arms over your chest defensively. “You are one cocky son of a bitch.”
Strange makes an “o” shape with his mouth, stepping back. “Got it. Next time I’ll let you get eaten by Mr. eyeball.”
“Don’t even think about it!” You shout as he goes to finish what he probably started.
“We’ve barely met, sweetheart,” He replies with a wink. “You’re acting like we’re best friends, and it’s my job to save you.”
You can’t admit the little ache you felt with that sentence, but you bounce back just as fast. “Oh, I didn’t know you thought so highly of me.”
Strange clicks his tongue; “If I have to save your cute little ass again, I’m supergluing you to my chair.”
“Did you just call my ass cute?” You shout, not offended in the slightest.
“You’re distracting me. Bye!” He calls out, and then he’s gone.
You laugh to yourself, still standing on the bridge. “I do have a cute ass.”
— THREE
You hadn’t seen Dr. Strange since. Not that it bothered you or anything. He was a superhero, and you were merely… you.
But maybe every now and then, you imagined him rescuing you again and asking for your name since you knew his. That was a foolish thought, though. It wasn’t like you had a silly little crush on the sorcerer. Besides, even if you did, Strange was out saving millions of people every day. You doubted he’d even remember you now. You doubted you were on his mind as much as he was yours. The first time he recalled you was probably just luck. And it had been weeks since, so he’s seen plenty of other people and probably cuter asses.
You let out a sigh, digging through your bag and grabbing the key to your apartment. You knew better than to expect anything from the hero. You’d heard enough from Christine about him before. He was arrogant, as much as surgeons were. Yet, somehow, she still spoke of him fondly. She held nothing against him and said, “I hope he’s happy.”
You admired her for that, even after the harsh words he said to her after the accident. You weren’t around then yet, having moved to New York after the blip.
You open the glass door to your apartment complex’s lobby, absentmindedly looking around. The door shuts behind you with a soft click, and you continue towards the elevators. Your finger hovers over the button before the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. You whip your head toward the glass doors and watch as some creature thing falls from the sky and lands right in front of the complex.
Almost immediately, the screaming starts, and you frantically start jamming the elevator button, just in case that thing wakes up.
It, of course, does and begins screeching. As soon as it does, ropes of orange shoot out and grab its arms. The creature cries out, its gangly limbs flying around, and within seconds, an individual with a red cape is at your feet.
You scream, jumping back and almost tripping over your own feet. Strange stands up, brushing off his coat, and with a tilt of his head, sends two spells the creature's way. Its tentacles fly out, and you gasp when the spell cuts right through them. Squelching sounds fill the room as they land on the tile floor, still withering. Now, you’d seen a lot of gross things in your life (thanks to your job), but this still somehow ranked in the top ten. The creature screams out, and Strange rolls his eyes as more tentacles start flying towards you.
You duck out of instinct, only to find that Strange had cut that arm off too.
He merely scoffs, sparring one look at you. “Oh, come on now, you couldn’t possibly think I was gonna let this thing take you out, did you?”
“Like you said it’s not like I’m your best friend or anything.”
Strange shrugs. “And yet, I’m on this streak of saving your ass. Wouldn’t wanna ruin what I’m best at.”
You open your mouth to give your own witty reply when the creature surges forward. “Strange, look out!”
You’re a second too late, and the arms grab him and discard him like a child would a toy once bored. Strange’s body collides with yours, and you both go rolling across the white tile, the cape trying to cushion your fall. Strange lands on top of you with a huff, and you just stare back, wide-eyed in disbelief.
“You know, there’s typically an exchange of formalities before this point, but I don’t mind,” He winks.
“You can’t be serious,” You reply, trying to roll out from under him.
“But I am. Listen, if you’re gonna be under me, you might as well tell me your name, so I know what to—,”
“(Y/N),” You cut him off, feeling the heat rise in your cheeks. “It’s (Y/N) (L/N).”
You blink, and Strange lifts off of you with a smirk and offers his hand. “(Y/N), how lovely to meet you.”
You step back as soon as another tentacle comes flying between the two of you.
“If you’re done trying to get into my pants, you could kill this thing!” You shout, jumping back again.
Strange frowns. “And here I was thinking the fun was just beginning.”
You don’t have a reply because Strange has the creature in a hold, and suddenly it vanishes into nothing. Well, if nothing was a pile of black steaming goo.
“You couldn’t have done that sooner?”
The sorcerer shrugs. “I wouldn’t have gotten your name if I had.”
“You did all this for my name?” You asked in disbelief.
You don’t get the courtesy of an answer as Strange walks through one of his portals with a shit-eating grin. “See you around, (Y/N).”
“Stephen—!” You scream, met with sparks and a very damaged front lobby.
You stomp your foot on the ground out of frustration. First the coffee shop and now your home? You just hope next isn’t your heart.
Although, you’re not sure if you’d be mad if that was the case…
— ONE
“Oh, it’s bad,” Christine said with a giggle.
You swatted her away with a frown. “It’s so not!”
“It so is,” She replied. “You have a crush on my ex, Dr. Strange!” She howls with laughter, and you’re thankful she’s not mad yet, not amused with the teasing.
“Tell the whole hospital, would you?” You whisper shout, glancing around to see if anyone heard.
“And he’s soooooo into you,” Christine said, nudging your shoulder.
You feel your face heat up. “You think so?”
“(Y/N), I dated that man. I know.”
“And it’s not weird?”
She shakes her head with a smile, flashing you with her ring. “Not a problem at all. Two hotheads, perfect for each other. Should I also add arrogant surgeons to the list?"
You roll your eyes at her. “I’m not arrogant—”
“Just confident,” Christine finished for you. “I know. Probably why he likes you so much.”
“Really?”
“I mean that or he wants a piece of that hot, sexy body or that cute little—”
“Okay,” You said with a clap. “I’ll see you on break.”
“If you’re not screwing him in a supply closet, that is!” Christine calls out, disappearing down the hall.
“Christine!”
You could hear her laugh as she rounded the corner. You shake your head, not denying that wouldn’t be the worst scenario. You return to your post in the ER, consulting all the patients. Everything appeared to be under control, no need for emergency surgery. You smile at the charge nurse, double-checking that she doesn’t have anything incoming before saying you’re gonna see if they need help in general. She nods, promising to page you if someone comes in. You’re just about to leave, hand on the door, when there’s a crash and people start shouting.
“Dr. (L/N)!”
You rush over, dropping to your knees next to the patient. Madi, the charge nurse, begins shouting orders demanding a stretcher from Dr. Belfar and any other free people.
You place two fingers on the patient's pulse point, before shouting, “Code blue! I need a code team, now!”
The patient had landed on their back, and you flip them over to begin CPR when a gasp leaves your lips. It was Strange.
“Dr. (L/N)?” Dr. Belfar asked.
You shake your head. “Nothing. Just not every day you see a hero in the ER.”
With one hand laced over the other, you straighten your arms and start CPR. You try not to panic, recalling that Strange was a sorcerer and there was no possible way he was going to die. You get to thirty right as the code team arrives, letting them take over.
“External bleeding, possible fibula fracture. We need an ultrasound to check for internal bleeding in the abdomen and an x-ray. Does anyone know what happened?”
Belfar shakes his head. “No, he just walked in and collapsed.”
“Clear!” One of the members of the code team shouts. You watch, in anticipation, as they deliver the shock and wait a few seconds.
There’s a beep, and you exhale in relief. “Sinus rhythm returned. I want those tests now!”
You help get Strange on a stretcher and wheel him into one of the trauma bays as a nurse grabs the ultrasound and another goes to get the emergency x-ray equipment. The nurse cuts through Strange’s clothes, squirting gel on his abdomen before handing you the ultrasound. His stomach is rock hard, and you can see the blood pooling in on the screen. Meanwhile, the nurse got an x-ray of his leg, confirming the fracture. “He has a perforated bowel! Move him up to surgery now and call ortho for his leg. They’ll have to wait.”
The nurse nods, punching a number into the phone to get you an OR.
“Belfar, with me! Let’s move.”
The next few minutes blur together as you rush upstairs and grab your surgical team before tagging in and getting ready. Strange lays on the table. His face is cut off, so you can only see what needs to be operated on. You nod to your team, taking your place next to the table.
“Scalpel,” You said, feeling the cool metal in your gloved hand. You take a deep breath to remind yourself this was like any other case you’d seen in the past. Never mind that this was Dr. Strange, protector of Earth’s reality. And never mind the fact that you had a huge crush on him. What mattered now was pulling him through this surgery.
You, of course, have performed this one many times in New York, so you were confident in your abilities for Strange to make a full recovery, but things could always go wrong, and that fact seemed to bug you much more now.
“I must say I wouldn’t have thought it would turn out this way,” a voice said. You scream, backing away only to find you didn’t move. But that wasn’t the weird part. No, the weird part was that you could see yourself.
You could see the thin line of blood that escaped as you cut into Strange’s abdomen and the steady movement of your hands.
“What the hell is this?” You whisper, turning to face the ghostly-looking Dr. Strange in the corner.
“Astral projections,” He said simply. “I figured it was best to not scare you while you save my life.”
“It was about time I repay you the favor.”
“Indeed, Dr. (L/N),” He smirks at you, flying forward. “So since we have some time to kill, I was wondering what else do I not know about you?”
You hum. “Well, you know where I live, my name, my job. What do you want to know?”
“The chances of me taking you on a date when I wake up.”
There’s a part of you that wants to say zero percent, just for the fun of it, but you don’t. There’s only one answer you can think of as you eye the sorcerer. “One hundred percent.”
Stephen raises his brows. “Did I make that lasting of an impression on the lady?”
You snort. “Oh, please. I just want your constant protection 24/7.”
“Ah,” Stephen tuts. “Good thing I’m a packaged deal.”
“Do the magic powers come with it?”
Stephen chuckles, “No, but you do get one free kiss coupon when I wake up. Consider it my thank you for saving my life.”
You smile, “Deal.”
