I know the fandom latched onto the 'Jeff's Inn by the Sea' thing early on as some sort of romantic idealized Retirement Goals (TM) endgame, but to me this has always sounded less 'domestic bliss' and more 'unmitigated disaster,' and the finale has definitely not changed my opinion on that. Like I'm giving this venture about a week before both of them are metaphorically clawing the curtains and gnawing the furniture. And the only reason I'm giving them that long is because I'm assuming they spend the majority of that first week screwing each other's brains out (with a few intermittent breaks for incompetent attempts at house renovation). Anne and Mary's antique shop really feels like foreshadowing here. Or at least a warning.

Glad they've got a chance to fail at something together, though (other than communicating about their relationship). Love that for them.

One way I am entertained about the bad news for trans people in the UK is this whole business of "if a trans student is distressed by the idea of using the bathroom of the sex they were born with, they must be given a third bathroom, single occupancy, locks from the inside"

First because the conservative British government has just invented a third gender for the sole purpose of adding construction restraints and expense to the requirements for schools

and second because this is going to be so vulnerable to the "'calling in gay to work" form of protest. In solidarity with their friend, some group of students is going to announce that they too are transgender and as such need to use the single-occupant locker room. The entire sport period will be taken up by people changing in the single-occupant locker room. With a bit of luck, this can be extended into missing maths as people change back out of their sport clothes in the single-occupant locker room. Numbers will be bolstered by students who don't care about the issue but don't like sport, or maths.

Another 'l don't even go here' binding project, with more feynite dragon age fic! I tried something new this time, a millimeter binding, where you have a sliver of leather along the edges of the book, then the bulk of your covering material. It was apparently developed to account for periods of leather scarcity without sacrificing the leather aspect of fine bookbinding. Fortuitously, this aligns beautifully with my personal goal of not obliterating my bank account through impulsive leather purchases. And it was a lot of fun! I originally intended to go red on red on red, but was struggling to find a match for the leather I liked, and I'm delighted with how the color contrast played out. I definitely want to do something like this again, preferably as soon as possible :D

Collaboration (Artswap) - Participants are paired up randomly in order to work on a single creation together. Traditionally it's a single illustration in which one person does the lines and the other does the colors, but you could also do other things like "one person scripts and colors a comic, and the other person does the linework" or "two writers pass a single google doc between them like a hot potato and they write alternating paragraphs" etc.

Podfic Challenge - A podfic is essentially an audiobook of a fanfiction. Either write and podfic a birdmen fanfiction, or ask for an author's permission to podfic (a portion of) a fic. You can get fancy, like adding sound effects or backing music, or just keep it simple and record something on your phone. Nice because it doesn't require you to create something in the traditional sense and is also a way to show appreciation to past fic writers. Not nice depending on how self-conscious you are about your voice.

Not My Medium Challenge - Create a fanwork in a medium you've never worked with extensively. For example, for myself, I'd consider illustrations, sequential art, meta essays, fanfiction, and music videos as mediums that I've worked in extensively, so I'd focus on other things such as meme compilations, music compositions, podfics, video essays, gifsets and edits, among infinite possibilities.

Draw A Comic Month - 4-week event with one week dedicated to scripting, storyboarding, linework, and colors/toning each. A comic can be as simple as a 2-panel comic to something as complex as a 30-page manga. This is one time where my comics advice is going to be ENTIRELY FREE OF CHARGE. I am going to sit in the birdmen discord at regular times throughout this event and do my best to make the comic of your dreams happen (guy who is obsessed with sequential art voice)
