wait i just remembered max survives the shadowhunters tv show but when watching it i really hated his character so i kept waiting for him to die but obviously it didnt happen so i thought they were just drawing it out which annoyed me too and as time went on i became more and more aggravated until one time while watching i had the realisation that i was really begging for someone to show up on screen and smash that small child's skull in with a hammer. good times

So I have some strong feelings about adaptation. Like considering studying it in grad school strong feelings. I was one of those a chapter and episode, a season a book type of people and I've since realized that that's a deeply unrealistic standard that we hold these adaptations to. Besides, if the adaptation is exactly like the source material then what's the point of adapting it rather than just engaging with the source material. Like I'm currently working on adapting a novel that I love as an application to a mock writers room and one things that my advisor said is most important is adding your own voice to the piece, making it your own in some way big or small. So yeah, the adaptation of your favorite book isn't going to be exact, it's not going to be perfect but that's the beauty of adaptation, making sure that it shows love to the source material. So basically, cut Shadowhunters a break because why did I see a post hating on it in 2023
