how much power is in the ring magnus give alec?
first, a little revisit to trsom
it's shown from scenes like this in the books that despite having the power to bring forward incapable feats or destruction, magnus doesn't want to use it, like at all. we get brief instances in the past where he used it and how much it affected him (killing his stepfather, creating earthquakes when he was upset). the status quo is set, magnus lightwood-bane and his immensely frightening, possibly corruptive magic will never accept each other's friend request again.
but then, there's this scene
the kind of power comes from the very heart of hell. we know warlocks are offsprings of demons, so it's safe to assume their heritage will somewhat show its influence in their magic. but this isn't your garden variety charm. from what the seelie girl trying to convey here, the ring literally reeks of magic from the deepest, most unpredictable and intimidating part of existence.
does alec know he's carrying a piece of magnus too-dangerous-to-not-be-unsealed-magic around him every day? and that there's no end magnus wouldn't go to, even if it's the part of himself he's terrified of, to keep alec safe?

Alec was on his feet now. His seraph blade was in his hand. He shot a look of contempt at Sammael. “Michael,” he said, and as the sword blazed up with holy name, Sammael visibly inched at the sound of the archangel’s name. Magnus felt a wave of pride. Not everyone could diss a Prince of Hell so artfully.
Michael is the name of the Archangel who defeated Sammael and it is also the middle name of Alec's son. Maxwell Michael Lightwood-Bane.
I just think how Alec when in battle can use both his son's names and lit up the seraph blade. Rafael. Michael. Alec loves both his children to infinity and I am so sure of that.
It's so beautiful to know the fact that Alec thinks of his family and heads into a battle.
And, the way Magnus is proud of Alec makes this moment even better. Also, props to Alec's sassiness.

Was thinking of Magnus today.
How his love for Alec seems almost desperate sometimes. The way he reacts everytime Alec gets hurt or worse, hurts himself. If Alec died... I have to think I wouldn't be like that. How he feels awed by Alec’s Angelic goodness even though from nearly everyone else's point of view, he's the one shining brighter. Some would call it the presence of God. He just thought of it as Alexander Gideon Lightwood. The many many spells he put in Alec’s ring. The way everyone knows Alec’s bow protects Magnus Bane but they never see the blue fire coming. The way he's spent hundreds of years living, loving, the many novel experiences, but never finding peace till he meets Alec. However long or short my life may be, it seems to me that I could never find time enough to love you as you deserve.
There's this quote from Emma by Jane Austen which perfectly encapsulates the way Magnus loves Alec, I think. If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more.
Anyway, I got caught up in feels and made a playlist. Enjoy.
