Koda looks badass, which is something I never though I’d say. Also, his quirk evolution is amazing!

SO happy Horikoshi focused on Shoji’s humanity and the personal impact that discrimination had on him rather than on society at large.

And Hori captured it with nuance too — Shoji clearly suffered but he also learned to shift his focus to the things that make him happy (which coincidentally are also the selfless things that help others). It’s a very Buddhist perspective.

Similarly, Shoji has his eye on the next generation already. Big problems can’t be fixed by one person, one class, or even one generation. Long term, consistent, collective effort is the key.

Shoji rescuing a girl from DROWNING, you say?? Reaching out a hand to a child in a river??? Wow, that sure hits on some themes.

Shoji’s backstory also gives more insight to what he told Izuku during the retrieval of “Dark Deku.” After what Shoji has survived, he doesn’t want to be seen as a victim, he wants to be seen as a hero:

Mineta DID call Shoji an octopus after Sero did, but then Mineta called Shoji sexy. Just to clarify :)

Shoji’s speech to Spinner sounds a LOT like what Shoto said to Toya exactly 20 chapters ago! “We know what it feels like to be hurt” = “Dad was a madman! Our family was screwed up” and “Yep, that’s me” = “You’re not wrong about me.” It’s a formula we keep seeing from the heroes in this final arc: Validate the villains as much as possible, and accept their insults with objectivity and grace.

Screams filled your ears and smoke filled your lungs. You heart beat so fast you could feel it in your head. The city was burning; buildings crashing around you. That's when you hear the laughter coming from behind you. Whipping around you see a figure; nothing more than a solid silhouette it's right hand ablaze as it stands there unmoving; uncaring.

"What's the matter little hero? Can't even save a single city?" His voice was coarse and cocky but just barely audible over the sounds of screams and the deafening ringing in your ears. You tried to move but you suddenly felt a sharp pain on your side from a wound you didn't realize you were holding. Within the moment that you looked at your side and up again he was directly in front of you. His green eyes piercing through you as you take in his burnt skin. His calloused hand was brought up in front of you face, you knew what was happening. You squeezed your eyes tight the tears that were falling stinging with every millimeter as you braced yourself.

Hot. That's all you could feel as he unleashed his quirk on you killing you. As you jolted up from bed. The hot tears against your red face, your body was drenched in sweat. You stayed there your body shaking as you hid your face in your hands. The five minutes you sat in the dark felt like an eternity until you removed the covers from your body. Standing up on quaking legs you shuffled over to the bathroom taking a nice cold shower.

After letting the water fall onto you cooling you off you dry off and get back into pajamas. You crawl back into your bed your heart still racing. Reaching for you phone with a click the screen lights up reading 2:24. Shit. You opened your contacts and scrolled, looking for his. You stared at your phone screen unsure if you should wake him up or not.

"(Y/N) next time you have a nightmare or need help I want you to call me ok?" His voice rang through your pounding head. Though the tears had stopped the congestion was not. The phone rung a few times each ring making you more hopeful you wouldn't wake the sleeping giant. He picks up a groggy hello comes through the receiver.

"I had a nightmare again..." your stuffy nose and scratchy throat made it hard to talk but you could tell he heard you. He said a quick 'I'm on my way' and hung up before you could protest.

You couldn't deny he was a great friend. He was caring and protective and was always looking out for you. You also couldn't deny you wanted to be more than that.

It wasn't long until you heard a knock on your dorms door, luckily there was no question of who it was. Getting up you shuffle to the door on your ever so shaky legs. The second the door opened wide enough he picked you up cradling you against his warm body with his wing like arms. After locking the door he carries you to your bed and tucks you in. Laying down on top of the covers. You scooted closer to him as he gently rested a hand on your arm comforting you. Though the two of your talked softly his voice and warmth lulled you to sleep quickly. The memory of that nightmare saved for tomorrow.

The next morning you awoke to a shining sun but something was different than usual. Your blankets were the same, as was everything else. Everything, that is, aside from the large busy you were currently cuddled up against. This isn't the first time this has happened, the two of you slept in the same bed before, just as you had last night. You gazed up at us resting face. He looked peaceful. You were admiring his peacefully figure when you felt yourself drift back to sleep.

The next time you woke up you felt your bed empty; a sensation that even though you were used to seemed extremely unwelcoming. Groggily you sit up noticing the bathroom door open and just beyond the door frame you saw his shirtless muscular body. You felt yourself choke slightly as your eyes scanned him, taking in every inch of him before you were caught. That's when you noticed his mask sitting in the counter in front of him.

You crept out of your bed making as little sound as possible as you snuck over to the bathroom door.

"Shoji?" You called to him from a couple feet away, sleep coating your voice. Startled he jumped back turning towards you and instinctively covering his mouth. Once his feet were planted solidly on the floor and his eyes were glued to you. His eyes searched your features for an indication that you saw what he hides.

One step. Another step. You slowly made your way over to the startled giant. Your eyes focusing on eachother searching for... for.. for something you weren't sure what. Maybe it was the mutual feelings you were both craving. Maybe it was answers. No one knew. You couldn't help yourself as you raised your hand slowly as you inch closer and closer to him. Reaching up you cover his hand with your own, you could feel him tense up as you try to gently pull his hand away. His eyes full of fear as you remove his hand from his face. Your eyes wander from his down to his mouth. His mouth was full of sharp pointy teeth. More.. menacing.. than Kirishima's.

You didn't scream, you didn't cry, you didn't run, you didn't laugh. You smile softly your eyes kind and gentle. Your bodies drew closer as if you were magnets as your hands entwined. A soft blush spreading across both of your cheeks.

"Shoji. You're still you. Nothing can change that." You say softly afraid to break the moment. He smiles. He smiles with his teeth showing for you. A smile that no one else would get to see. Only for you. The two of lean in in unison. The second your lips connect you entire body gets washed over by a warm sensation. You close your eyes hoping the moment will never end if you can't see. But it does. Only for a moment until you are pulled against his body and kissed again. Deep. Passionate. Trusting.

A PICNIC FOR SHOUJI

Shouji was called to a picnic on his birthday, and the day seemed to call for it. The sun was shining brightly even though it was winter. Taking advantage of the good weather, his Class gathered in the woods to throw the towel on the ground and spread their delicacies. Each brought something. Everyone except Shouji.

“It was a surprise for you, it couldn't be different,” Tokoyami tried to ease his conscience.

Even so, Shouji insisted on carrying at least a dozen baskets.

The grass was still damp even though it was afternoon, but everyone was prepared with more towels to cover the floor and sit down.

Although all twenty members of the class had gathered, they formed their little groups, as usual, all very close to each other and as close as possible to the central tablecloth, where the food was.

Shouji noticed, with great appreciation, that most of the things there were related to the sea or had shapes that resembled octopuses, fish, shells, and so on.

He reached for a bowl of takoyaki as soon as he found it and passed it around to his closest friends, huddled in their towel.

“Did you know Tokoyami and I made those?” Ojiro pointed, his tail lazily swinging before settling down folded to take up less space.

“Oh, I'll make a point of savoring them then instead of just devouring them,” Shouji replied with a smile in his eyes.

“Please keep your expectations low. It was the first time any of us had made takoyaki, and Sato didn't want to help us,” Tokoyami requested wistfully, looking doubtfully at his own dumpling.

Kouda just nodded, asking for something else behind Shouji since he didn't eat meat. Shouji readily agreed and got his friend a piece of cake.

With everyone served, one of the ends of his arm turned into a mouth, eager to savor the delicacy, until he was interrupted.

“You can take off your mask, if you want,” Tokoyami proposed, sure and inviting.

Shouji felt the weight of anxiety in his stomach. His face was no longer a secret to his Class, but that didn’t make it any nicer to show off. Even more so when everyone was eating.

“But that's alright if you don’t want to,” Kouda reinforced gently.

“Yeah, we just want you to feel comfortable,” Ojiro confirmed.

They were already more used to seeing his face than the others, so it was easy for them to speak. As for the rest of the Class, they wouldn't have a chance to get used to it if he didn't show himself more often too. Moreover, none of his other classmates had ever made any mean comments about his face – he had checked, though he wasn't proud of it. In fact, his appearance was never an issue between them, except when they occasionally pointed out how strong he was or how convenient it was to have so many arms.

They always had something positive to say, if anything.

His hand lowered his mask and let it rest on his neck before he could doubt his friends. To distract himself, he quickly devoured one of the takoyakis, his huge maw hugging the entire mass, and the octopus quickly crumbling into his tongue.

He blinked in surprise.

“Hmm, it's very good,” he assured as soon as the food was down his throat.

His friends smiled. Someone in Bakugou's group lose a bet. But no one said anything about him not wearing a mask. No one even looked at him any longer than necessary, always with kind smiles, or offering him something different to try, as his group's food had been approved.

Shouji was among friends, real friends, and although he already knew it, it was always a pleasant surprise when it was reassured.

I think Shouto has burned off some of his hair. His scar look bigger.

Now that’s an instant morale boost for the heroes. That is still a very large nomu though

They sure did group a lot of students up together. I know it’s for story reasons, but logistically you would want to keep the hero:student ratio a bit more on the adults’ side

Mina and Minoru are both crying

Quirked warfare is a fucking mess. There’s so much going on.

This just in, Pinky considers murder. Red Riot may be an accomplice.

Also, I think that should be “man” not “dude” that’s kind of his thing

Fat Gun and Aoyama vs Literal Flower Power

And Flower Power’s acting like the match up is in his favor

So Flower Power here was going to be one of the assassins sent after Midoriya if Class A hadn’t gotten him back to UA, got it

Also I don’t care if his name is on the page right in front of me, I will continue to call him Flower Power

Now the “Bat of Aesop” comment. Choosing sides based on whoever’s winning, not entirely sure how well that fits, but whatever. I think the thanks is coming from him being warned about being hunted down for the rest of his life

Spinner is taking Dabi’s defeat poorly

Spinner got his sword of swords back.

A little messed up of the heroes to put Shouji against Spinner and all of the other mutant-types, no?

Also, is that the shape of a smile under his mask? Will we get to see his face?

Oh i have a character: Shoji

My first impression: I immediately went "Oh, he's a big kid!!"

My impression now: THAT IS MY SUNSHINE, MY PRECIOUS ONE, HE IS EVERYTHING!! HE DESERVES HAPPINES!!

Favorite thing about that character: It's so funny to me that he is the youngest of the 1A kids, yet is the tallest.

Least favorite thing: That he's not appreciated enough.

Favorite line/scene: During the Provisional License Exams, it's an added scene that wasn't in the manga, if I remember correctly. Asui got in a pickle and goes into hibernation for a while and because Shoji has all those arms, he cradles her to keep her warm and it's the cutest thing ever. Like??? He's just so great??? 😭

Favorite interaction that character has with another: It's underrated, but his relationship with Jiro. I love seeing those two being the lookouts and there's this scene in the baseball OVA, that is also another Shoji scene I love, when Jiro is like "Oh, it's getting brutal" and he suggests she takes a dive to get out the game, she fakes it and he plays along. It's so funny! 😆

A character that I wish that character would interact with more: Oooh... to choose I have to go with Asui here. I want him to have more scene with everyone, but I'm choosing Asui because he also had teamed up with her during the Cavalry Battle and again, the whole hugging thing. The idea of those two just being besties is just too cute.

Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character: Ever seen Nanbaka? Okay, if you haven't, there's this character named Rock that I also like a lot. He's a lot more aggressive and outgoing than Shoji, but he's a sweet, big guy just like Shoji.

A headcanon about that character: You know how Shoji wears a mask and usually it's blue? I headcanon that he has a bundle of the same mask and many other masks of different designs and colors that he wears just to feel some pizzazz that day.

A song that reminds me of that character: The song Comedy by Gen Hoshino, which is also SPY X FAMILY's first ending song. That song just has a vibe to it that reminds me of Shoji and it's also a real catchy song. The song lyrics, I just feel, resonate with how he is.

An unpopular opinion about that character: I guess this also would count as a headcanon, too, but I just think Shoji is the best hugger there is in the BNHA verse. He is also a character I just think no one could be able to hate him. Like, how could you hate him?!

Favorite picture: Okay, I have two! The first one, he just looks so cozy!! The second one tickles me because he's holding a bunch of oranges.

pairing: fumikage tokoyami x gn!reader x mezo shoji

tags: polyamorous, fluff, implied spoilery stuff (kinda?)

tokoyami and shoji both had clear similarities, like their mutant quirks or their desire to become a hero, but when it comes to showing their affection, they're quite different

shoji and tokoyami both care a lot about you, but shoji struggles to be affectionate towards you, at the start of your relationship

he struggles to fully open up to you, despite how close the two of you are. he's worried that you wouldn't like him if you got to see all of him. the biggest example being his face…

affection comes much more naturally to tokoyami however! he's the type to write you poems, buy you flowers and hold your hand when you're walking to class together

there isn't a lot of jealousy between the three of you, but shoji envies tokoyami for how easy affection seems to come to him

as much as you try to assure shoji that you love him no matter what, it's tokoyami who manages to get shoji to open up and confess why he struggles so much

after that point, shoji manages to open up more. he occasionally holds your hand in public and when it's just the three of you, he'll even take off his mask…

while shoji and tokoyami aren't dating each other, they are very close friends and only want the best for each other!
