Thinking about my grandmother telling me she bought every single Batman comic book from day one as they came out when the character was introduced and kept them in mint condition and when she got back from college her mother had thrown them all out

Heyyy, I finally saw the Marvels with my family! OH MY GOD, what a truly unhinged movie. I was fighting for my life for most of it, just basically being like:
Tumblr media
What do you think of it as a movie, btw?? There’s so much I like, from the singing planet, to Kamala and her entire family, to the scene where all the Flerkens eat the entire ship(!!). It’s incredibly ballsy — but also, WOW there’s some stuff I don’t like. It’s so goddamn fast paced that nothing has time to breathe, the villain is not very interesting, and I think the way the fight scenes are shot makes the CGI really hard to look at… in terms of looks from the original to this, it’s like comparing Spy Kids to Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over. Oof.
But I still had a LOT of fun, and I don’t really regret it. It’s probably still better than the Flash on account of pure dignity — and I guess to someone who knows these characters better than I do, I suppose the logic of the film makes more sense? My dad was confused by Kamala’s ability to use her powers without the bangles, and I still haven’t seen Ms. Marvel yet… so I might need an explanation on that myself. 😅
I liked the movie! I thought it was fun. Carol, Kamala, and Monica's dynamic was so much fun to watch, and every scene with Fury and the Khans cracked me up! Goose was amazing, too.
But yes, the movie could've been a lot better. I do think they could've added 15 or so more minutes because, like you said, it was so fast and had no time to breathe. I was kind of annoyed that the movie sort of glossed over Carol restarting a sun because that's a HUGE thing to do. Thor (temporarily) did the same thing in Infinity War, and it was rightly treated as a feat of strength, but the movie barely focuses on Carol (permanently) doing the same thing. It's like, "Oh, by the way, Carol restarted the sun. Moving on."
Yeah, the villain is BORING. I really don't know why they went with Dar-Benn, but I guess the problem is that Carol doesn't have many notable villains, and the ones she does have are related to the X-Men, like Rogue, Mystique, and Deathbird, so the MCU couldn't use them. Or they already used what villains she does have in the first movie, like Ronan the Accuser, Yon-Rogg, and the Supreme Intelligence. But I still think they could've used the Brood, Nitro, or Moonstone rather than Dar-Benn. Or even adapted a version of the Kree-Skrull War since I don't think the MCU is going to do it. And if they wanted to use the Quantum Bands (which are basically the Nega-Bands from the comics), they could've made Genis-Vell the villain (who would've turned good) since he's Mar-Vell's son and wields the Nega-Bands in the comics. Basically, there are many more interesting villains they could've chosen than Dar-Benn, or they should've written her better.
The logic of the film does not make sense to me at all; I just took it at face value. I still don't understand Kamala's origin or her abilities, and I've watched Ms Marvel. I think they've overly complicated her origin, and I still don't know what her mutant power is.

The Marvels (2023)
Tumblr media
I have so much fun watching this movie. The people saying is bad just hate fun.
It obviously has its flaws, but I haven't enjoyed an MCU movie this much since Black Widow.
Nia Dacosta's direction was great. I loved all the fighting scenes, something that Captain Marvel's directors messed up in the first movie.
I love how light and fun it was. It didn't try to get you into the next movie or TV show; they were doing their own thing.
I love Carol Danvers. She is my favorite comic character, only next to my boo Jessica Drew. So, I'm always happy to see her, and this is the best she has ever been in the MCU. Nia Dacosta brought the silliness that I think it was lost in the first movie.
Teyonah Parris is a superstar. I love Monica so much. In Wandavision we didn't get to see her too much, but here she shines so brightly, literally.
The MCU hit the jackpot with Iman Vellani as Ms Marvel. One of the things I love about Ms Marvel is how much she loves Carol in the comics, so I was nervous about how they were going to portray it here, but they nailed it. And then she realized she was doing too much and apologized to Carol, just brilliant.
Also, people worried about having to watch a million movies and TV shows to understand the movie are so dumb. I follow the MCU, or I used to because the TV shows are just awful, so I didn't care because I knew Kamala and Monica from their own shows, but it didn't really matter if you watched the shows or not.
Of course, If you know them from before this movie it is an enhancing experience but it's not necessary to watch it. I'd go as far as to say that you don't even need to watch the first Captain Marvel to understand and enjoy this movie.
My favorite things of the movie:
The chemistry between the trio was perfect.
So many scenes that made me laugh out loud.
I love that they didn't give a damn about Secret Invasion as they should. This movie probably happened before the show, but I was so happy to have the real Fury back and not the pathetic version they did on that show.
The planet with the singing had me rolling. Kamala and Monica having a blast with all the dancing, and Carol was just ready to go.
I know the dudebros are going to hate that planet. They almost had an aneurysm when Megan The Stallion was twerking with She-Hulk
Kamala's interaction with everyone. She was so happy to be included.
The fighting scenes
They include a lot of Kamala's family.
Having them in casual clothes while practicing how to use their powers was amazing.
My sweet lovely Valkyrie, come back to me soon.
What I didn't like
Marvel still has a problem with the villain. It was weak, and Zawe Ashton didn't get enough material to work with. The way they tried to explain her actions was kinda confusing too.
The solution to Dar-Benn's problem was so easy and I don't understand why Monica didn't tell Carol before. It took her like 2 minutes to bring back the sun.
Post credit scenes
I couldn't care less about the young Avengers, but if this is the way to get more Kamala, fine. And I hope they also bring Xochilt's America Chavez.
For the second post-credit scene I got confused for a minute because I was sure we were in the Doctor Stranger-altered universe, but when Best entered the room he said that Charles wanted to speak to them and Maria's hero name was Binary.
But Wanda killed Charles in Doctor Strange, and Maria was Captain Marvel (I know Binary is Captain Marvel in her most powerful form, but still). So, I guess we are in another universe or reality.
I don't care about the X-men, but I admire Marvel's dedication to keeping Lashana Lynch employee; I get it.
Anyway, I love this movie, and I don't care what critics have to say 5 stars in my heart.

The Inhuman Superhero Formerly Known as a Mutant*
Since the finale of Ms. Marvel there's been a few confused takes on the issue of comics!Daisy Johnson's origins, including mine.
So, let's clear things up.
It's true that comics!Daisy was thought to be a Mutant, but the keyword here is "thought". I suppose she could have been called one in the standard biological meaning but not in the specific Marvel meaning, as she didn't have the X-gene.
Daisy's first appeared in Secret War, a limited edition series by Brian Michael Bendis and Gabriele Dell'Otto published in 2004 and 2005, and there she already explicitly denied having the mutant gene.
Here's the relevant panel from Secret War #5:
Tumblr media
"Technically, it's genetic damage, handed down from my jerk of a father. I don't have the mutant gene"
So, from the get-go, her powers were innate, the result of some genetic anomaly/mutation, but these anomalies were the result of the altered DNA inherited from her father (Calvin Zabo, the supervillian Mr. Hyde), not the mutant factor of the X-Men & co.
A decade later - issue #7 of S.H.I.E.L.D. volume 3, The Strange Case of Daisy Johnson and Mr. Hyde, published in 2015, a month after AoS had finished airing its second season - her mother was revealed as Inhuman.
Tumblr media
This didn't really alter her origin drastically, since it was her father's experimentations with his own DNA that had triggered her genetic peculiarity, said peculiarity now being the Inhuman gene rather than genetic anomalies passed on by her father as previously established believed.
As a result, comics!Daisy hadn't needed to go through Terrigenesis to unlock her powers, which explains why nobody had thought she was Inhuman before.
Tumblr media
(btw there's a narrative reason why she's so angry, this isn't normal)
In the comics, Daisy's mother isn't the leader of the Inhuman community on Earth, but a prostitute that Mr. Hyde frequented. Her name was Jennifer Kim Johnson, and, unlike her AoS counterpart, she was unaware of her Inhuman heritage.
She was also never tortured by nazis, and had simply given up Daisy for adoption rather than having her baby stolen by well-meaning SHIELD agents.
In the one holographic image of her, she still looks Asian, in line with comics!Daisy's new looks there were now closer to Chloe Bennet's than Angelina Jolie's.
Bonus
Here's Daisy's file from Secret War, her first appearance. There is no mention of her being a mutant. Note the part where she's said to be immune to the harmful effect of her vibrations. Comics!Daisy also has psychic shielding, strong enough to impede Emma Frost. And of course, blue eyes, because her first look was inspired by Angelina Jolie in Hackers.
Tumblr media
Below is her file from Secret War: From the files of Nick Fury, the companion volume to the series, which calls her a mutant. This file also makes her 5 inches taller and 20 lbs. heavier, and her place of birth has moved to New Orleans (it's Portland in the previous file) 🤷‍♀️

So we watched The Marvels (2023). Yeah, that film with Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel and Spectrum; apparently that came out in NOVEMBER, and has now hit streaming. Disney just left this out to die and did 0 advertising for it and it seems nobody watched it.
Overall I think it was a very fun film, with a few big weaknesses. If you like MCU stuff, it's absolutely worth a watch, then again I liked antman 3 and hated the loki tv series, so my opinion is apparently wrong.
More detailed thoughts (and spoilers) below
So there is a *bunch* of stuff that has happened off-screen at the start of this film, that (as far as I can remember) hasn't happened in another marvel film/tv show, we're just expected to magically know it has:
The Kree had (/are having) a civil war
Carol destroyed the supreme intelligence
The Skrulls have an emperor, and at least 1 planet.
Nick Fury lives in space now, and founded&runs S.A.B.E.R
All of that is just stuff you should know, somehow.
The villain is a kree accuser whose name I've already forgotten, she's a boring version of Ronan - and Ronan wasn't exactly exciting to begin with. But at least Lee Pace was chewing the scenery. It feels here like the actress is going for it 100%, but that's still 200% short of where the scenery chewing, cackling villain energy needs to be.
The rest of the cast do a good job, and Iman Vellani continues to be great as Kamala, and her family steal most scenes they're in.
The CG overall is good, and feels like it's actually needed.
The fight choreography is mostly really solid, and has some creative uses of powers.
There is a scene with the flerken(s) I won't spoil, but absolutely give a raise to whoever decided to play that song - it's a very, very funny scene.
Now nowhere in the film does it say Carol is queer. At no point is it stated clearly that she's into women. She just, you know, lived with and had a close relationship with Monica's mum for a number of years, and is "old friends" with Valkyrie. Oh yeah, that's another thing we're just expected to know, she's been...friends...with Valkyrie for years, apparently. Was this just an excuse to get Tessa Thompson to turn up in a suit? possibly. again, the film isn't saying anything, it's just thinking it really rather loudly.
And in a highlight of how few people saw this film: it has some x-men in it. Sure it's because a character gets shunted to a parallel universe, but they wake up to find a well designed, but badly CG'd Beast (voiced by Kelsey Grammer) and an alternate version of themselves looking after them. Which means somebody writing it has read a comic with sword in. Which also means we're one step closer to getting Abigail Brand in the MCU, and that's exciting.
Overall it's a fun film, that wants to have fun and it seems like the people involved in it are having fun. Why this was left to rot but secret invasion was pushed so hard, I'll never know.

Audio Teaser of The Marvels is Out, Know the Movie’s Release Date, Cast, Story, and More
Tumblr media
Long-awaited good news for Marvel fans has arrived. The makers of the Marvels have shared a teaser recently of the film. They have also asserted that the trailer of the movie will be showcased on 12 April on Good Morning America. The clip shared is of 17 seconds by Marvel Studios had the caption - "BREAKING: newly obtained audio from space."
The surprise factor was that the clip had no video footage. But it contained an audio wherein you can hear Monica Rambeau saying the words ‘Hello’ and ‘What the?’. And then Nick Fury enquires – Where is Captain Rambeau? This has raised speculations already among the fans that it means that Rambeau is missing. The film will be a sequel to Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel.
The date of release of The Marvels is on 10 November as of now. The exact plot of the movie is still a mystery and has not been made public. It is an upcoming superhero film adapted from Marvel Comics. It will star Brie Larson, Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani. And it will feature Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Ms. Marvel.
The movie plot is probably about all three coming together to understand why they are exchanging places every time with each other as they use their power. Also, we can expect Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, and Samuel L Jackson to return to the screen. Some of the newly roped-in members are Zawe Ashton, and Park Seo-Joon. However, the characters and roles of these stars are not yet revealed to the fans.
Vellani said she had to put in 10 to 14 hours in a day for the shoot, which is quite tiresome. She also said that Teyonah Parris and Brie Larson would come up to her and converse with her and ensure that she is taking care of herself when Vellani could not power herself enough to take care of herself on an off day.

DEADLINE EXCLUSIVE: After a long and hard search, Marvel has found its Ms. Marvel. The studio is tapping newcomer Iman Vellani to star in its  Disney+ series based on the comic-book character. Marvel and Disney Plus recently named Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Meera Menon as directors on the project.
Marvel had no comment.
Ms. Marvel hails from writer Bisha K. Ali and centers on Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teen based in New Jersey. Ms. Marvel first appeared in 2014 as Marvel’s first Muslim character to star in her own title, and she will become Marvel Studios’ first onscreen Muslim hero. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has said that in addition to appearing on the small screen, Kamala Khan will be included in future Marvel films.
The plan always was to stay true to the character in finding the right actress to play the role, even if it meant offering a person that was not well known to the public.
Marvel and Disney+ have been hard at work setting up their development slate in recent weeks by not only setting Tatiana Maslany to lead its She-Hulk but also giving Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury character his own series. The studio also announced that WandaVision would be the first show to premiere on the streamer later this year.
Though this marks Vellani’s first major Hollywood production, she has already made tries in trying to help diversify the industry. At the 2019 Toronto Film Festival, she was part of the Next Wave Committee which was tasked with adding a special tag to films — already programmed into other categories — which they believed would resonate with their peers.

MCU timeline, if they actually cared about the characters as much as we do:
Phase 1 (setting up the universe)
- Iron Man - Incredible Hulk (+ Bruce’s DID is included and well represented, Hulk is not shown as a monster which cannot control himself so much he hurts everybody around including Betty, in fact he is shown to avoid hurting anybody who isn’t actively shooting at him, Dr Samson and Rick Jones are a must for this origin story, post credit can stay the same) - Hawkeye (includes: his childhood with an abusive father, his brother Bradley, his past in the circus so basically his origin story, his deafness, him being conscripted by SHIELD, and post credit scene with him choosing not to kill Natasha) - Black Widow (includes: her childhood in the Red Room, the fall of USSR and change in Russian politics, KGB being dissolved, Natasha’s breaking of her programming, her leaving the Red Room thanks to meeting Hawkeye, the assassination of Dreykov’s daughter, What Happened in Bucharest, Natasha joining SHIELD, and post credit scene with her taking place of the PA which was supposed to apply to Stark Industries) - Iron Man 2 (+ more info about Howard’s abuse of Tony, Natasha is there, but it’s not her first appearance, and also she isn’t shown as if she knew she was in a movie) - Thor - Captain America: The First Avenger (I think that his stupid behavior in CW is completely set up by his origin story, so I wouldn’t change anything if we wanna have that conflict with him being more concerned about Bucky than literally anything else going on) - Captain Marvel (because her existence makes Fury think about Avengers and explains why Fury wanted to create them in the first place, also action happens mostly on Earth) - Avengers (+ Jane Foster and Darcy are part of the science team and greatly contribute to the plot as scientists, because I am fed up with women being sidelined)
And because Avengers has a post credit with Thanos we should get some movies in space now related to Thanos first, before Iron Man 3.
Phase 2 (we learn about the ultimate badguy)
- Guardians of the Galaxy - Thor: The Dark World (but hopefully better written, + no damselling of Jane) - War Machine (Rhodey’s only movie, Tony is busy doing whatever) - Hawkeye 2 (how Clint dealt with everything which happened during Avengers, how SHIELD agents treated him, introducing his family?, maybe bringing back Barney and showing his relationship with Mockingbird and stuff like those) - Iron Man 3 (without the ableist meta message that all disabled people just wait to become murder machines, but still introducing Extremis) - Black Widow 2 (could be the same story as we got in 2021, introducing Yelena Belova) - Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch (includes: their childhood, how their parents died (Yugoslavia being bombed by NATO, but I doubt Hollywood would ever wanna say it out loud), them growing in orphanage, possibly attending university (universities for citizens in Serbia are free and because Sokovia is based on Serbia, and it is a slavic country we can assume they have that system as well, and there are also social support programs available from both the government and possibly the university as well), the difficulties of a life in which they have to cover their costs of living themselves, because they have no parents, American army stationing in Sokovia, twins getting radicalized, protesting against foreign influences in their country and joining Hydra, experimentation, if they were trained by Hydra to use their powers or not and how were they trained, Sokovia being shown to be normal country instead of breaking apart state which Americans see each time they think about it) - Falcon (Sam’s origin story, his mission in Afghanistan and stuff - I don’t know his origin story, so I dunno what to say here) - Captain America: The Winter Soldier - TV show about the consequences of the movie above. Possibly something akin to Agents of Shield. What happened to the agents, how world reacted to Natasha’s “fuck you”. - Ant-Man (introducing Hank Pym) - Avengers: Age of Ultron (Ultron is Hank Pym’s like in the comics, but in some versions of this Tony helped or provided tech so he still wpuld feel quilty afterwards, + no dying Pietro)
Phase 3 (everything gets complicated, but they prevail)
- Incredible Hulk 2 (what happened to Bruce and Hulk and how they dealt with the idea that Steve literally had his well-being in his ass by inviting Wanda and Pietro to the team, what is going on with Thaddeus Ross and Betty Ross, we meet Jennifer Walters) - Black Panther (different one than the one we got, introduces T'Challa and his family) - Spider-Man: Homecoming (could be earlier, just after Avengers, but *shrugs* this story is written in such a way it is better after Iron Man 3 and Age of Ultron) - Captain Marvel 2 (basically setting up why she didn’t participate in Civil War, my idea was to depower her, but not take her powers away, so she could have some more down to earth stories instead of stories set in space, maybe even explore her alcoholism that way) - Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch 2 (deradicalisation, becoming heroes) - Captain America: Civil War (Accords are better explained, Matt Murdock or Jennifer Walters show up to do exactly that, RAFT is explained as American prison not related to the UN, Steve this time has valid concerns about the Accords, but he still goes ape shit over Bucky, still lies to Tony about his family, because those traits were all set in his origin movie) - The Wasp (Hope’s origin story) - Hawkeye 3 or Hawkeye TV series - Black Widow 3 (something something about Ross hunting her, but Red Room was already taken down, so different story is here instead) - Ant-Man 2 (Wasp is here too, but this is Scott’s movie, previous Ant-Man and The Wasp) - Black Panther 2 (about Kilmonger and T'Challa’s scuffle for the throne) - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (didn’t know where to put it, because it is mostly unrelated to any other movies with this story about Ego, but it develops Nebula more, so let’s be here) - Doctor Strange - Thor: Ragnarok (I am not opposed to Planet Hulk, but I am more inclined to not put Bruce into a movie which is supposed to be about Thor and Loki so… more time for Brunhilde) - The Winter Soldier (solo Winter Soldier movie) - Avengers Infinity War/Endgame (it makes no sense to make two movies if we can have one, the snap was used as a plot device more than actual defeat of the Avengers, so it can last less than 5 years and also no time travel which then you have to explain why TVA didn’t put everybody in jail for that, Tony doesn’t die and Carol and some other powerful people (LIKE HULK, Hulk is NOT less powerful than Thanos or fearful or something) take down Thanos instead and Tony finally retires and is left alone by everybody goddammit)
Phase 4 (new era, some heroes retire, others take their place, while different ones just get the grip of whom they truly were all along, and also we get a new ultimate bad guy and possibly set a stage for his defeat) <- this one not really well set up, because we don’t know most of the movies and TV shows which appear in this phase so dunno how to set them.
- Spider-Man: Far From Home - Photon (origin story of Monica Rambeau) - War Machine 2 - WandaVision (or Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch 3, adjusted, so it would not repeat some facts and would only remind about the most important stuff. Also, Pietro lives in this timeline so no Bohner guy lol, he is just insufferable brother-in-law to Vision, and weird uncle to kids) - The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (but with Steve who didn’t go back in time, because there was no going back in time in this timeline, he just finally is learning what accountability is and has to forfeit his shield, because it’s time to retire) - Falcon 2 - Winter Soldier 2 - The Wasp 2 - Loki TV series (Loki survives Thanos and is taken by the TVA, it basically doesn’t force the story to make him quickly develop feelings in the first episode and bypasses that issue, + more Loki Variants, all genderluid and presenting in various ways in the show) - Incredible Hulk 3 (Bruce and Hulk finally start communicating and Hulk becomes gradually smarter, and we meet Bruce’s another alter Grey Hulk and the circus with getting along starts all over again, because Grey Hulk hates Green Hulk xD, is setting up She-Hulk) - Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings - What If…? TV show - Ms Marvel TV show - Eternals (feels like should be in different phase) - Spider-Man: No Way Home - Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness - Thor: Love and Thunder (about Mighty Thor - Jane) - Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (about Shuri?) - The Marvels (Captain Marvel 3 basically) - Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quntamania (setting mutiple Kaangs I suppose) - Moonknight TV show - She-Hulk TV show - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - Blade (feels like should be in different phase) - Fantastic Four - Avengers (in which they fight Kaang?)
I was going with the idea that every superhero should get at least 3 movies ONLY about them. As of now, I managed to put 3 only for a few, and some were swapped for TV shows instead to fill the place and better show the character and what they’re up to, because TV shows have more hours than movies.
I know there are supposed to be TV shows for Armor Wars, Iron Heart and Secret Wars, but I dunno when, so no idea where to put them.

X-Men Abridged: 1981 - Bonus: Avengers Annual 10/What If? 27
The X-Men, those Claremontian mutants that have sworn to protect a world that hates and fears them, are a cultural juggernaut with a long, tangled history. Want to unravel this tapestry? Then read the Abridged X-Men! [more here]
(Avengers Annual 10 & What If? 27) - by Chris Claremont and Mary Jo Duffy, Michael Golden and Jerry Bingham
Avengers? You’re not here for Avengers! Let me make the following counterpoint:
Tumblr media
Holy eye shadow, Rogue!
See, Avengers Annual 10 is less about the Avengers and more about three other things:
The rehabilitation of Carol Danvers who, after this, has had her fill of the Avengers and becomes an honorary member of the X-Men;
Spider-Woman and the X-Men trying to figure out what has happened to Ms. Marvel;
Mystique trying to spring her Brotherhood from prison, using a secret weapon: Rogue.
Depending on my mood that day, I might name Rogue as my favourite-ever X-Man, so I really could not skip her debut issue. Instantly iconic, all of this:
Her streak;
Her signature green outfit with hoodie;
Her accent.
Queen.
I love how Claremont once again almost effortlessly introduces a strong female character, one that single-handedly takes down three of the strongest Avengers. Also note how free Rogue still is with her powers: fun, flirty, without the tragic can’t-touch-anyone-angle that will define her for the next three decades.
I’m sorry, am I getting ahead of myself?
This story begins as a whodunit: who pushed an amnesiac Carol Danvers off the Golden Gate Bridge and stole her mind? For that matter, where did she came from? Wasn’t she happily married and pregnant in some alternative dimension last time the readers saw her? Spider-Woman rescues her from the choppy water and calls Professor Xavier to help out. He manages to retrieve the Jane Doe’s identity and knows who attacked her: a woman named Rogue.
Rogue, meanwhile, skulks about the Avengers Mansion, first taking out Captain America and then attacking Thor.
Tumblr media
Considering what this comic is about, I don’t believe Hawkeye’s throwaway mysognism is accidental here.
Rogue’s powers work as follows: through touch, she can steal other people’s powers and memories. The longer she touches someone, the longer she’ll have them - with the looming threat of the theft becoming permanent.
After absorbing Thor, Rogue is faced with three Avengers who’s powers she can’t absorb - Spider-Woman (covered in a suit); Vision (robot) and Wonder Man (being of pure energy? Idk, I’m not really familiar with him other than his bromance with Beast). Hoping the three powers she has in her arsenal - Ms. Marvel’s, Thor’s and Cap’s - will be enough, Rogue flees.
Mystique, meanwhile, has duped Iron Man by pretending to be the Wasp and has paralysed Tony Stark in his suit with some sort of device. She picks up the powered-up Rogue and their plan becomes clear:
Tumblr media
Rogue immediately earns her place in my heart by using billionaire Tony Stark the way the Coyote uses anvils. (Also note the odd way of spelling ‘sugah’.)
I love how both the Brotherhood and the X-Men continually pull focus from the Avengers: for an Avengers-comic, it's surprising how much they're pushed to the background. Again, this makes sense if you know what this issue really is about, but that won’t become clear until the epilogue. I don’t mind, it means we get a ton of great moments, like the Blob calling Mystique ‘Misty’:
Tumblr media
My God, this era’s Destiny/Mystique is even more obvious than 90’s Rictor/Shatterstar.
A battle erupts. One funny moment is actually seeing Destiny fight. I’ve never really read comics about this incarnation of the Brotherhood and my collection mostly takes off after Legion Quest, so I mostly know Destiny posthumously. I always figured that, as a villain, she stood somewhere off on the side, delivering cryptic messages. I never realized she was the one to almost shoot Senator Kelly, nor that her powers are this practical.
Tumblr media
X-Men drinking game rule 11: Drink anytime someone fatshames the Blob.
The fight is pretty evenly matched until Spider-Woman releases Iron Man from Mystique’s little trap. Soon, the Avengers overwhelm the Brotherhood. While Mystique and Rogue manage to flee, Destiny, Avalanche, Pyro and the Blob are detained again.
With the main antagonists sorted, we return to the actual storyline: the rehabilitation of Ms. Marvel. Professor X has managed to tease her out of her catatonic state and offers her therapy to restore her missing memories and powers. (The ones stolen by Rogue.) The Avengers, not fully understanding why Carol won’t ask them for help, eventually come by for a house call.
Carol asks the X-Men to leave while the Avengers gingerly confront her. It’s very awkward.
Tumblr media
“Fuck the Avengers. Taking my beer.” - Wolverine, probably.
See, what all this refers to is the rape of Ms. Marvel. I haven’t read the particular comic in which this happens (Avengers 200), so if you want all the details, I’ll refer you to this article. Before I get into the details, it’s important to note that Claremont was the writer for Carol Danvers in her solo-series, giving her agency and turning Ms. Marvel into a three-dimensional character. The title was then cancelled and Carol was shuffled off to the Avengers. (Rogue was, in fact, planned to make her debut in that the solo-Ms. Marvel series, as one of Ms. Marvel’s new antagonists. Presumably, Rogue would steal her powers there, too. We all know Claremont loves to strip his heroes and heroines of their powers to show they’re even more badass without them.)
As an Avenger, Carol was wooed by some other-dimensional dude/entity named Marcus. He courted her by giving her flowers, worshipping the ground she stepped on and, oh yeah, ‘subtly’ influencing her mind to make her fall in love with him and consequently impregnating her.
Yes.
Now, Claremont is no stranger to putting his characters through their paces and he gleefully makes use of the whole mental manipulation-trope. In fact, telepathically coercing someone to fall in love with you is absolutely what Mastermind did to Jean Grey: he probably violated her just as much as Marcus did Carol. The difference is how it’s treated in the narrative: Mastermind’s actions are never laughed away or apologized for and are the direct cause for his downfall. They help trigger Jean’s transformation to the Dark Phoenix, whose first deed is taking out her fury on ‘Jason Wyngarde’.
That’s… not what happened with Ms. Marvel. There, the narrative condones Marcus’ actions by framing it as ‘her happy ending’ (married and pregnant, yay!), something which is celebrated by the Avengers.
This is where Carol calls them out for their bullshit.
Tumblr media
We call this ‘The Reason You Suck’-Speech. It’s a thing of beauty.
The Avengers depart, tail between their legs, and Carol hangs out with the cool X-kids from now on. For now, at least.
So, this issue is not only a landmark because it’s where Rogue debuts, but you can also see Chris Claremont going to bat for one of characters: he (presumably reluctantly) gave back the character of Carol Danvers when her solo was cancelled, proceeded to see how terribly they massacred his girl and then claimed that ownership right back.
Good for you, Claremont.
***
The “What If… the Phoenix Had Not Died”-issue is kind of boring, because it’s basically a rehash of the Phoenix Saga. Why am I paying attention to it? Because of the (mild) gore (and because the Avengers Annual wouldn’t fill a whole post). Anyway, it’s like watching a Final Destination-movie: it’s silly, light on plot and never a particularly thought-provoking movie, but it’s still fun to see all those people inventively but haplessly die.
Plot! Instead of committing suicide on the moon, the Shi’ar strip Jean of her powers after her trial. Jean is trapped in a barren mental state, almost feeling like she's a veggie. But Jean's powers refuse to remain dormant: slowly, her telepathy returns.
When Galactus threatens the Shi’ar homestead, Lilandra summons the X-Men as her champions. Jean embraces her Phoenix-side and defeats Galactus. Everyone is grateful and super-convinced Jean can handle the Phoenix this time! Yay!
And, because that battle with Galactus took a lot out of her, Jean decides she can have a little asteroid. As a treat. She keeps slipping up on her diet, supping on the occasional meteor and lonely planet to keep her power levels up. It turns out to be a slippery slope: finally, she consumes another star (in an uninhabited system! And a small one! How dare you judge her!), but when she returns to the mansion…
Tumblr media
The absolute worst moment to forget you have powers, Kitty.
Xavier attempts to bind the Phoenix, but last time, Jean helped him fight from within. This time, there's not much Jean left. Without breaking a sweat, the Phoenix wipes his brain. But she doesn’t stop there. Maybe the Phoenix remembers that, last time, she was undone by the principles of “friendship is magic”. This time, she’s determined to not let it get so far.
It’s absolutely bone-chilling.
Tumblr media
And the stars blinked As they watched her carefully Jealous of the way she shone - Atticus
I wonder if there’s a rhyme or reason to the way Jean murders her friends: is it random? Does she go for the ones she loves the most first? Does she save Cyclops for last, knowing killing him might trigger Jean to respond?
The narration mentions that the three remaining X-Men are the most powerful ones: Polaris, Havok and Cyclops. (I would’ve swapped in Storm for Cyclops, but whatever.) They have formulated a quick plan: Polaris pulls focus while Havok and Cyclops shift into position. Phoenix disintegrates Polaris while Havok and Scott try and blast Phoenix to smithereens.
But at the last moment, Scott can’t. Havok’s blast alone is not enough. Phoenix shoots him through the heart and then, finally, kills Cyclops. That’s when Jean resurfaces, realizing what she’s done. She can’t take it - she’s in the mood to dissolve in the sky, as per Virginia Woolf - and she lets the Phoenix take over.
Tumblr media
Phoenix finally lives up to her potential: The End of All That Is.
It's a mediocre plot with a lame ramp-up to a terrifying conclusion. In the regular universe, the thing that triggers the Phoenix is the utter violation of Jean’s body and mind; here, it’s being confronted by Kitty. One is the proverbial red cloth in front of the bull, the other is being assaulted by an ineffective wet cloth. The Phoenix Saga is iconic because all the pieces were carefully put in place; this just feels rushed an unearned.
Also, the Watcher is full of shit. You can’t say you don’t pass judgment whilst simultaneously comparing the merits of one tragedy to the other. Shut up, Uatu.
Check back next week for your regularly scheduled X-Men Abridged! It’s time for 1982 and the brood saga!

Pass the happy! 🌻 When you receive this, list 5 things that make you happy and send this to 10 of the last people in your notifications 💖
@omends: Thank you for sending this in, hun. I hope you are doing well!
Well, Marvel makes me happy, so... Just gonna list five Marvel things.
1.) CLINT BARTON (aka HAWKEYE)!
Tumblr media
He is my favorite Avenger, and I love him. (Yes, comic, cartoon, video game, and movie Clint--I love them all) #TeamHawkeye for life!
2.) My Peggy Carter girls!
Tumblr media
I’ve made so many wonderful friends while cosplaying as Peggy--especially my two pals named Jenna, one of them being @nerdgirljen, and I met my Angie, too! (Also when I met @agentsterling we were both cosplaying as Peggy)
3.) AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!
Tumblr media
Yes, this series is very campy, but I love it. When I’m having a bad day, I can pop in one of my favorite episodes, and it cheers me up. I love the animation style, the characterizations, and I love the voice cast.
4.) Season one finale of AOS!
Tumblr media
(I couldn’t find a gif from that episode so I just picked a random one of Coulson) This finale had everything for me-- action, drama, heartfelt moments, cameo with Nick Fury... I loved everything about it. It is one of my favorite episodes in the entire series and for any Marvel series.
5.) The positive part of the fan community!
Tumblr media
(Using Kamala because she started out as a hero fan before becoming Ms. Marvel!) Yes, there are a lot of ugly parts in the fandom, but I have made some amazing friends in this community-- through cosplay, just liking the movies, fanfic writing, and roleplaying. And I will forever be grateful and blessed for that.

EXCLUSIVE: After a long and hard search, Marvel has found its Ms. Marvel. The studio is tapping newcomer Iman Vellani to star in its Disney+ series based on the comic-book character. Marvel and the streamer recently named Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Meera Menon as directors on the project.
Although this marks Vellani’s first major Hollywood production, she already has made tries to help diversify the industry. At the 2019 Toronto Film Festival, she was part of the Next Wave Committee, which was tasked with adding a special tag to films — already programmed into other categories — which they believed would resonate with their peers.

Left Behind
Note: Based on a prompt left on the Tumblr of Miraculous-Of-Salt but not Daminette. Sorry but personal opinion and you are free to like the ship if you do but I don't left Marinette X Damien. My fave crossover ship of Marinette is with the Peter Parker Spider-Man. It's mostly due to not liking Damian from the comics and media I have seen with him as a murderous brat. I don't see Marinette actually tolerating him. That's just my view and I have liked Daminette fics I have read (though for the salt) and they are fine.
Ms Caline Bustier had gotten her class back from the long flight home; she had the class on a weeklong field trip to check out Gotham Academy, all the way in Gotham City in the US! It was also funded by none other than Wayne Enterprises as well.
It had taken a lot of work to do and set up along with the permission slips and not everyone was allowed to go, especially not Adrien Agreste due to his strict overprotective father. She never thought she was allowed to directly criticise parenting but Gabriel Agreste was too strict a parent to Adrien, it had only been recently that he even allowed him to go to school like a normal child.
Most of the School Board needed to be convinced and she along with Principal Damocles was sternly warned that anything that goes wrong will be on their heads.
It was mostly due to the infamous status that Gotham had; corrupt politicians and police officers that were replaced by dangerous Villains and insane criminals. She swore she had everything under control.
She was happy to report that everything went off without a hitch; nothing happened. The only disappointment was that Marinette seemed to be distant from her classmates and especially when Lila was nearby. She seemed to go out of her way to talk to the Gotham Academy students instead of joining any conversations that Lila was involved in.
She frowned at this and decided when they got back she needed to have a small little talk with Marinette; she noticed she was becoming more distant from her classmates and it couldn’t be good for her. She had been hoping she could reconnect with her friends which was why she insisted to her parents that she go.
It didn’t work so she would have to do more.
She made sure to check all the names on the list before leaving but there was one that was crossed out weirdly with a pen but she guessed it was a name that cancelled at the last minute.
She made sure everyone was sent home that Friday afternoon when they got back. However on Monday morning she got an urgent email from Principal Damocles that she was to report to his office immediately after arriving. She was stunned but rationalised that he must just want a report on what happened.
However she was met with a unhappy Principal Damocles; several people she did not recognise, Marinette’s parents who looked uncharacteristically furious and several representatives of the School Board. The representative’s fury was only overridden by the Dupain-Cheng couple’.
She could not even begin to ask what wrong before Sabine Cheng went on a tirade about how she left her daughter alone in one of the most dangerous cities on the planet when she assured them she would be totally safe.
She was in the middle of asking what they meant before her brain frozen when she realised something: she did not remember seeing Marinette on the line to come back at the airport or on the plane.
Marinette had phoned them home saying no one had told her when they were leaving so she was waiting at the meeting place at the hotel having been unable to find any of them. She had been found by Bruce Wayne who had to contact her parents arrange for her to be flown back in a private plane.
Ms Bustier was relieved that Marinette had gotten back safely then but one of the representatives passed her a tablet and saw it was the Gotham Gazette website. Ms Bustier was asking why she was being shown it and was about to get back on the topic of Marinette but she was harshly told to read it.
She saw it was about something that happened on the Friday Night after their flight left, the hotel they were staying at was attacked by criminals after a VIP guest who was in a luxury suite. The photo showed several criminals being handcuffed by GCPD police officers, she could make out the dark vigilante of Gotham ‘the Batman’ (a pretty bleak figure if you asked her) and next to her were the superheroine Starfire and the Bludhaven vigilante Nightwing. The two were comforting a teenage girl.
A teenage girl who looked a lot like Marinette....
Oh no..........
The backlash had been enormous and school was cancelled indefinitely for the students; the School Board and Marinette’s parents were furious that not only was Marinette left behind in a different country but it was in one of the most dangerous cities ever with her life at risk by an attack by criminals.
It was a miracle it was not someone like the Joker, the Batman Who Laughs, Killer Croc, the Scarecrow, King Tut or even the Bookworm who was involved. The criminals were being personally led by someone called the Ventriloquist and what had happened was that they were not willing to harm a teenage girl so they let her get to saftey just before the Superheroes had come.
Of course that was the official story; the one Batman had told the GCPD who related it to the Gotham reporters. The criminals were not contradicting the story due to their embarrassment of what had actually happened:
Batman, Nightwing and Starfire had arrived to see the criminals all tied up to a pole with a Yoyo, there was Ladybug there. Tied up was Arnold Wesker a middle aged grey haired balding man with glasses and was tie up along with Scarface his mobster ventriloquist dummy who he still had his hand in.
Ladybug was actually tickling his cheek asking who was a cute mob boss and Scarface was shouting to his men that anyone who lets this go out will be a dead man walking.
The story became everywhere in Paris; Nadja Chamack made sure to get it out through the news media. She was angry that the daughter of her friends had her life endanger by being left behind in a different country.
Marinette was interviewed about it in the investigation and was asked about the record of her having been bullied by the mayor’s daughter for years at the school. She related what had happened and asked about what Ms Bustier had done about it. She had to say that she didn’t do a whole lot and had taken her aside to encourage just be a good example for Chloe after she had ruined a birthday present she had made for the teacher.
That did not look good at all.
It turned out that when the classmates were asked they said that Lila Rossi promised she would tell Marinette when they were going and didn’t. There were apparently some beef between them and looking into their file they found claims of disabilities, diseases and absences that didn’t have notes.
Her mother was called in for a talk.......
Ms Bustier was on indefinitely suspension but knew she could not count on keeping a teaching profession and didn’t know if Principal Damocles would survive the ordeal. Ms Bustier came to the bakery and gave a well deserved apology Marinette and their parents even knowing it would not do much. Marinette looked apologetic but her parents just said they didn’t have anything to say to her.
She felt that even the look Marinette had given her was more than she deserved.
Marinette had gotten home and despite what happened did enjoy her time in Gotham. She had a few souvenirs including a communication device with a T on it, it seemed like Ladybug was now an honorary Titan.
Her classmates had come to the bakery and given her apologies for what happened along with her parents. She accepted them but was upset about what happened.
She was more than happy with the other classmates (the ones who didn’t go) who wanted to make sure she was okay along with other students. Juleka and Rose had come to make sure she was alright along with Luka.
When she next saw Alya she was enveloped her into a hug that seemed to last forever and tearfully told her that she was glad she was okay. She hugged back. Alya was vehemently refused permission to go by her parents; they knew what she was like in wanting to get Superhero footage in the Ladyblog and the lengths she went.
They did not trust her to do the same in a city like Gotham.
On social media and TV interviews Bruce Wayne talked about making sure the visiting Marinette had gotten home safely and criticised the French school officials who allowed it to happen. Former GCPD commissioner and current Gotham City Mayor James Gordon shared the sentiment.
There were tweets and interviews from Bruce Wayne’s foster son Dick Grayson and his fiancé Kory Anders (a beautiful young woman who most people swore that she did not come from this world) who talked of making sure the poor girl was consoled until they were able to send her home.
Marinette was asked what it was like meeting Bruce Wayne by her friends but she was being humble about it and didn’t like saying anything. It was not like her classmate Lila.
Said girl was angry about the attention her hated rival was getting and the enormous trouble she was in. If she came back to school she knew she would have to face tougher and sharper personnel.
Why did she decide to make sure Marinette was left behind again?

A bit of an endgame fix-it bullet fic
Two years pass, and Bucky and Sam have been saving the world while old man Steve Rogers watches from the sidelines. It’s good to have him around but its not the same.
In april of 2025 Steve Rogers dies in his sleep. He was 98, it was more than his time to go
Bucky doesn’t speak for 3 days, and Sam isn’t really much better.
The first time Bucky does speak its in Gaelic (a language nobody knew he spoke) It takes 4 more days for him to start speaking in english again.
Wanda comes back to mourn her friend and stays
The funeral is pretty small, but the murals, the pop culture is prolific. There is a mural that would put the one at the Smithsonian to shame painted on Bucky’s apartment building
A year passes, and things kinda go back to normal
Peter Parker, journalism student at NYU kinda becomes friends with Bucky and Sam.
And on an unrelated note, that dude Spiderman has been seen kicking it with Captain America and the Winter Soldier
Captain marvel and King T’Challa swing by when they can, even Thor comes back to earth to check in every now and again. After all Steve was one of his favorite midguardians.
 Bucky accidentally meets a teenage girl who calls herself Ms Marvel in the sewer and becomes her mentor (Look Wolverine isn’t in the MCU so having Bucky as Kamala Kamm’s mentor makes the most sense)
They have an Avengers again
And Suddenly Those avengers find themselves fighting the KKK (Still Banking on Son Of Serpent) and they are scrambling. Former members of Hydra, people who didn’t quite come back right, and a whole new bread of racism that sprung up in the time between the break up and the snap are attacking citizens with full force, and the avengers can’t handle it.
They need Steve Rogers.
Wanda suggests that they go back in time to get him, “We bring him back for the mission then drop him off right where we found him. It shouldn’t mess up the timeline too much”
 Bucky and Sam begrudgingly agree and decide that its best to send Wanda and Peter back to get him.
Look everyone is going to know who Bucky is, and Sam never wants to experience being a black man in the 1940s
Later that night Bucky confides in Sam. “I don’t think I will be able to handle watching him leave again”
“I don’t think any of us will, but between you and me, I don’t think anybody would fault you for going back with him.”
“I really don’t think I would be able to handle that either”
 Sam swings an arm around him and says “I’m sorry bud”
The next morning Scott Lang helps them find Steve Rogers in time. He’s pretty hard to track considering he exists at every point in time for a solid 100 years. Turns out that 37 year old Steve will be at a lunch counter in June of 1945 at about 3 pm.
Steve did go back to see Peggy. He got that dance, he warned her about what would happen to SHIELD, told her to be there for Tony in December of 1991 because he was going to need somebody to love him. He got his chance to say goodbye, because he hadn’t when she died in 2016 and that had been eating away at him for 7 fucking years.
Steve was going to go back to the pad. He really was, BUT first he was going to get something to eat from his favorite lunch counter that got turned into a starbucks while he was in the ice.
And when he walked in who should he see but an old friend and a kid from queens
He doesn’t even have time to ask questions before Peter says “Look cap, sir we came from 2026 and things are a little crazy. We need your help. After we stop King Serpent we can totally bring you back to live out your days with Agent Carter.”
“So I can do what? I was just about to head back to Bruce and Bucky and Sam.”
Wanda looks at him. She has seen that memory of Steve on the bench in Bucky’s dreams. She held his hand while he cried about it once. But Steve isn’t lying. “You didn’t come back to Tony’s funeral. A way older version of you met Sam and Bucky there. He was waiting. You passed on your shield to Sam. Told them you got a life. That older version of you died. You stayed in 1945 with Peggy. You had a wedding ring, and you refused to tell us about it”
“Peggy has a husband and Kids, I would never take that away from her… And I would never abandon you guys without at least talking about it before hand.”
And then it hits Peter (Look he doesn’t have a 4.0 in college and a swanky internship at the daily bugle for nothing) “Shit we are the reason you don’t come back to the funeral. We are going to bring you back 3 years later. You don’t stay in the 40s, you just kinda experience time out of order.”
Wanda is quick as they come too, “That means the older version of you didn’t come from the past he came from the future. We have an extra vial of pym particles. Peter take him to sam right now, I need to go to 2024. I am so going to regret leaving you two alone together”.
It is a terrible idea really, but somehow Steve and Peter manage to not get in trouble for the 5 minutes that they aren’t supervised
 In fact steve Spends all of that time asking Peter what the hell happened and how Bucky and Sam are doing.
Wanda finds herself in Bucky’s house in 2024. She bursts into the room saying “I just brought you back from 1940”
Steve grins “I remember. I bet you have a few questions.”
“Understatement of the year really” She decides to ask. She could just look into his head. That would be the easy option really, but Steve is her friend. He wouldn’t lie. “Do we bring you back to 1940”
“Nope, I came back from 2086 during the funeral and waited on that bench.”
“Who has the matching wedding band?”
“Really? You don’t want lottery numbers or the winners of the next 60 superbowls? You don’t want to know how we beat the serpent?”
“I think we’ve messed with time enough”
“Who do you think?”
 She grins, “When do you guys actually get married?”
“2028, once we get back together, which I guess is soon for you, we stay that way. We fell into our old habits and this time we never had to let go.”
So she has to grill him “Who officiated, and who are the best men?”
“T’challa officiated, Sam was Bucky’s best man and you were mine.”
“What made you want to come back, or stay back”
“Bucky died. It was peaceful, and we had been married for 58 years. I’m not really meant to live without him.“
 She gives him a huge hug then zaps herself back to 2026
Wanda actually gets back to Bucky and Sam before Steve and Peter do. “Peter and I were the reason that Steve didn’t come back.”
Bucky doesn’t even have time to blink at her in confusion before he has an arm full of time traveling super soldier. He can barely breathe when he hears Steve say “She told me its been 3 years since the funeral… I’m so sorry Bucky. I never wanted to leave”
And suddenly Sam is hugging them both, and all 3 of them are crying while Wanda is whispering something about Starbucks to Peter.
Look he has enhanced hearing, but he isn’t really paying attention right now, he is too focused on telling Steve how much he missed him
It takes a minute, but Wanda, Steve and Peter are able to explain everything, and Bucky, still crying just hugs him again “Thank you for staying”
“Buck, I wouldn’t give you up for the world… Any of you”
They fight the serpent, and they win. And they keep on being the Avengers. And Steve stays with them the whole time.
Steve is more than happy to let Sam be Captain America. The Captain is a champion for the underdogs, and Steve doesn’t really fit that bill any more. PLUS The nomad suit that fury’s personal costume designer (Agent Armani he called her?) is actually really cool, and its nice to have a low profile. He still saves the world, but now he has more time to draw (His online comic about a bunch of superheroes all living together in a tower is actually very popular, and all similarities between his characters and existing superheroes is purely coincidental) , and to show Bucky the modern world, his modern world.
Steve also takes the time to hang out with his niece Morgan, she is a smart kid, and she makes him help her fill out her WWII study sheets.
A number of things make Bucky want to tell Steve that he is in love with him. but the thing that finally pushes him over the edge is watching peter parker propose to his childhood sweetheart Michelle.
Bucky has barely said the words “I love you” before steve kisses him within an inch of his life.
Life goes on, and for once, Steve, Bucky, and Sam actually get to enjoy it (Even though they still get shot at a lot)

Unforeseen Chasm (Part 33)
Prompt: Two sisters fall for men that are absolute enemies. The love they have could tear all of them apart, or it could bring them together.
Word Count: 3359
Warnings: Fluff! I think this is one of the few moments you get it so enjoy it while it lasts.
Note: This is by far the longest thing I’ve ever written (including my novels). It’s a collaboration with the amazing @mrs-dragneel-stark-solo. It started as a funny “What if…?” and it evolved and got huge. This took two years to write. We are both proud and happy and we hope you enjoy it. It follows from Thor 1 to Endgame in the MCU. Some of the timelines may be off in order to fit certain people, and some characters may show up earlier or in different ways than they have in the movie. But for the most part, it follows the MCU. It also has a bit of crossover with some other Marvel characters throughout the story.
Masterlist for Unforeseen Chasm

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tony and Shannon needed a break from everything. They hadn't had a vacation together in over two years, not had really had a vacation at all.
Until Tony had been hell bent on getting everyone some time to go out wherever they’d like and he could finally pop the question to Shannon. He’d waited a good long while to make sure that they were back to being happy and not having problems.
Fury was a raging ball of disbelief when he had been informed that none of the Avengers would be of help for the next month, but had relented saying that they deserved it to help themselves.
Tony had everyone's flights booked the same day, each destination different. He had planned to head down to a little cabin in Alaska that he’d had made six years ago for when he needed to get away and hide from everyone. Now he had other plans for that cabin.
“Shannon, are you all packed for our trip? Maybe bring that camera I got you three Christmases ago?” he said from the bathroom. He was very nervous about how he’d ask her to be his wife. He’d asked Bruce for some tips, seeing as he was the only person who he could tell about the proposal.
“Tony, I’m not even sure what to pack… you won’t tell me where we’re headed,” she said, completely confused as to what to grab. She stood in the walk-in closet looking at all her options. She felt guilt bubble up in her stomach because she’d gotten back on track to fixing things with you and her leaving would be as if she didn’t care about leaving you in an inescapable cell. “At least tell me how long we’ll be there! So I know how much to pack,” she yelled so he could hear from the bathroom.
“Babe, relax. It’s not long, just a month,” he said, wrapping his arms around her waist. “You need to pack warm for where we're going. You’ll need your snow boots.” He had turned her around in his arms love shining in his eyes.
“Help me pack then?” She looked up at him through her lashes. “That's the only way we’ll get my bag done fast.” She winked hoping he’d get the hint behind her words. She kissed his cheek.
“Oh you bet I’ll help you pack,” he growled, showing her he knew what she was up to. “How about we start with the lingerie?” he teased, going to one side of the closet and looked for some simple yet comfortable outfits.
“How about I pull out some outfits and you tell me yes or no?” she suggested, hoping to get things packed faster. “And I promise not to tease you this time.” She smiled going to some of the already prepared outfits.
The rest of that morning was spent packing and by midday they had already made their way to one of Tony’s planes. The whole team had left together, wanting to leave at the same time. They each were able to get their own private plane to their destinations. Bruce pulled Tony aside for a moment just before he and Shannon boarded their plane.
“So do you plan on popping the question soon? Or two weeks into the vacation?” he asked, wanting to keep things good for calm and happy on the flight to Alaska.
“I want to ask her soon but I think I’ll find the right moment,” he said while holding the box in his pocket. “Wish me luck, big guy.” He patted Bruce’s shoulder and walked away.
_______
“You don’t need luck!” he said loudly to reach him as he had already gone a decent distance.
“What was all that about?” Shannon asked him when he came back to her side.
“What, that?” He pointed at Bruce. “That’s nothing. He’s just being dramatic,” he said sounding calm even though his nerves were on fire. “Shall we head to our destination?” He held his hand out to let her into the private jet first.
“Why thank you, kind sir,” she giggled seeing how sweet he could be.
“Anything for you, my dear.” A smile reached his eyes from seeing her laugh. “Off we go!” He ran in after her.
“Tony!” she shrieked as she went to the back of the jet, he caught up to her and tickled her sides. “Stop... Stop, Tony, I give!” she said between laughs.
“Okay… okay I’ll stop, on the condition that you sit in my lap for at least part of the flight.” He smirked but it softened to a genuine smile he had only for her.
“Like I’d ever say no to spending some time with you.” She turned around hugging him close.
The flight was spent with the two of them watching movies. She had fallen asleep in his arms, he had pulled a blanket over the two of them. Feeling the sleep take over, he let his breathing match hers and they both slept. They hadn’t slept that well in what felt like months.
Once the plane had landed, the pilot announced that they had arrived. By then Tony had already woken up and was randomly searching through the channels. Hearing the pilot say they got there, he looked at Shannon’s still sleeping form and woke her up by peppering kisses all over her face. “Babe, wake up, we’re here.” He moved some hair behind her ear.
“Five more minutes…please.” She hid her face in his chest. Feeling that the plane wasn’t moving, she sat up. “Wait, are we here?” She looked to the windows but could not see a thing, they had all been closed.
Watching her look around to guess their destination was adorable. She looked like a kid on Christmas.
“Yes we’re here. Come on, the car is waiting to take us to where we’ll be staying.” He motioned for her to stand up and the captain had come to the back, holding out her jacket to put on.
“It’s a bit cold here, Ms. Shannon, you’ll need this.” The captain lifted the jacket so she could put her arms through the sleeves. He was holding a poofy looking jacket and had an equally poofy one on his arm for Tony. She moved to the side and watched as Tony got his jacket on too, it was comical seeing Tony wear a marshmallow jacket.
“You look ridiculous, Tony, like the Michelin man.” She laughed looking at him turn around.
“But there’s one thing different, I rock this look, he doesn’t.” He looked so proud of himself. “Come on, let’s get going.” He helped her get out of the plane.
To her surprise she saw the vast mountains of snow everywhere. She looked around in marvel. Her eyes were shining with awe, slowly turning to take everything in. Tony took the chance to snap a picture of her and how beautiful she looked with nature behind her.
“Tony, it’s beautiful here… I’ve always wanted to come to a place with lots of snow!” She walked back to him and giving him a tender kiss.
“Then wait till you see where we’ll be staying.”
They walked to the car waiting for them. Getting in, the driver had quickly driven off to get to the cabin that was a short drive away. The ride there all Shannon could do was look out the window and point things out to Tony. He was mesmerized with how much this was exciting her.
The car stopped and she got out quickly, not believing the sight she had in front of her. It was a big rustic looking cabin. She saw there was a small opening next to the main entrance. Looking closer she saw it was actually a doggy door. Confused, she looked over to Tony to ask about it when she saw him whistle and out came Lucky running through the entrance and jumped onto her knocking her down with his speed.
“Hi, Lucky, it’s good to see you too.” She laughed as he licked at her face and was running around. Tony walked over to help her stand when Lucky jumped on him too knocking him down right onto Shannon. They both laughed and stayed there for a moment, she looked up and saw that Tony’s eyes were filled with so much love that it made her melt because she never imagined that she would ever get this chance to be with him and it still felt like a dream she never wanted to wake up from.
“Here, let me help you.” He’d stood up and reached down to grab her hand. Once they were both on their feet, they walked into the cabin. It looked a lot bigger to him, but it could be the same seeing as it had been years since he’d been here. The driver had brought all the bags in and had left so it was just the three of them.
“When did you get Lucky here?” she asked as she walked around, memorizing where everything was so she wouldn’t get lost.
“The same time we got here, I just had someone drop him off here so that he could get used to his surroundings.” He walked over to closet to put away their jackets.
----------------
They spent most of their time skiing or out walking the trails. He mostly went to watch Shannon become hyper focused on the things she took pictures of. The little quirks she made when she was trying to get the perfect shot, sometimes not even aware of her surroundings unless he moved her out of the way.
They’d been at the cabin for about three weeks now and Tony was beginning to get anxious about popping the question. He’d figured out now was a better time than ever so he told her that he had the whole day planned for the two of them. He’d found a little nook somewhere in the cabin where the view of the mountains was spectacular, then followed by a dog sledding ride, he planned to have someone head into town to get some things for them for dinner. After dinner it would be seeing the aurora borealis. He hadn't told her that they were staying in Barrow, Alaska where it's one of the seven known places to see these lights at night. To end the night by the fireplace all cozy with hot chocolate, he would ask her to be his.
“Tony, I still can't get over this little slice of heaven being all yours!” she said while they were out in the little area near the cabin. “We should come back another time, maybe even invite the others?” The last part sounded like a question.
“I would love to come back here with you.” He watched her skate in the ice of the little pond. “Although I'm not sure about bringing the others here, specifically. Maybe I can find a bigger cabin for all of us?” He had been thinking that the others would like to come to a place like this to relax, maybe even to celebrate Christmas together.
“There’s already a lot of room here in the cabin. I don't see why you’d want to find another place.” She looked over her shoulder at him before turning to skate backwards.
“I want this to be just our get away, imagine it, just you and me.”
“Don’t forget Lucky!”
“And of course Lucky too, maybe even get a little friend for him to play so he’s not so lonely?” he suggested.
To be fair he had always loved dogs, just never had the idea to get one because of his busy life but once Lucky came into the picture he realized how much he had missed out on.
“That would be cute! Maybe get him like a little sister or brother?” They’d began walking back to the cabin by then. That got him thinking about having kids, he never thought about it but then again he thought about ever getting married but here he was about to propose to the woman of his dreams.
“Why don’t you go upload your photos onto the computer to edit while I get started on dinner?” He had everything in the kitchen ready for him to start cooking. Not that many people knew he was really good in the kitchen back at the tower.
“Sure, it’ll give me something to do since you won't let me help make dinner.” She stuck her tongue out at him while heading to the office.
“I already told you it's a surprise, so run along, babe.” He shooed her away. Dinner would consist of her favorite foods, he’s gotten some of the recipes from her mother. And the others were of things he’d gotten her to try.
Time flew by while both of them were busy doing things. She had stopped editing photos for a while and had gone to the living room to sit down at the piano to play one of her favorite pieces by Beethoven. It was a very popular piece on every classical piano cd. She could play it all day long if she wanted to. Tony could hear how she poured her heart into playing that song.
Once everything was cooked and ready he set up the table for the two of them.
“Dinner is served,” he said coming into where she had begun to play Bella’s Lullaby on the piano. She was so focused on the music that she hadn’t heard him coming up behind her he rested his hand on her shoulder. “Babe, come on, the food’s ready.”
The touch startled her. “Oh! Tony, I must've gotten sucked into the music again.” She looked up at him.
“Come on, my talented woman, it's time you get some food in you.” He laughed intertwining their fingers together.
“Tony, look at all of this! It’s amazing. You have all of my favorite foods.” She looked at the table with the food her mother used to make for her. “What’s the occasion? I didn’t forget any anniversary, did I?!” She looked over, worried she’d maybe missed something special for the two of them.
“None at all, babe. Just showing you how special you are to me.” He smiled while he pulled her seat out for her.
They were both dressed comfortably and once he had her sitting, he went to sit next to her. They had dinner, comprised of some puerto rican food her mom would make. There were a few comfort foods they both enjoyed and he had learned to make a dark chocolate mousse sprinkled with white chocolate shavings and inside the mousse was a bit of caramel.
“I’m glad you got me to go on vacation, Tony. These past few days have been amazing not having to worry about work or projects or things we’ve been working on.” She entwined their hands together.
“I’m just glad that I convinced you that it would be nice, I feared it would just be me and Lucky,” he joked and patted Lucky when he walked over from hearing his name. “I think we all needed some time away from working and make time for ourselves.” He looked up at her with loving eyes.
“You’re right. Everyone has been too wound up from everything that's happened in the past two years.” She drew circles on the back of his hand with her thumb.
“Babe, us here has been the best moments of my life.” He sounded honest, making her look up at him.
“All the best moments are when your at my side, Tony, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.” He could hear the adoration in her voice.
The rest of dinner was spent with casual chatter, at one point Lucky sat in one of the chairs and it made them both laugh and they set a plate for him to eat with them. She felt that it had been an amazing night and couldn’t think of any way it could get better. Little did she know her whole night was about to get better once it hit time for the hot chocolate after watching the Aurora borealis.
“There’s two more things I want to show you.” He led her to the back deck where he had set up a cozy looking area. “Come here, it's almost starting.”
“What’s almost starting?” she asked as she sat down next to him and she felt his arm go around her shoulders.
“Just look.”
“Okay, okay.” She turned over just in time to see the northern lights begin to appear. “Tony, look! It’s beautiful.” The shock and awe very visible in her face.
“Surprise! I was hoping to show you this soon.” He was admiring the light but kept turning to look back at her. He knew that right this moment was exactly when he should ask her. “Hold on, I’ll be right back.”
“Come back quick so you don’t miss this!” She pulled out her camera taking the opportunity to take a few shots so that she could save this with her memories.
He ran quickly to grab the hot chocolate and making sure he had the ring in the little box in his jacket pocket. “Here goes nothing, Lucky. Wish me the best!” he said to the dog who had been laying on the couch. “Okay, I'm back,” he huffed, a bit out of breath from running inside. “Here’s some hot chocolate.” He handed her a mug once she set her camera down.
“Thank you...mmmm, this is really good,” she hummed while sipping on the warm drink.
“Actually there’s something that has been on my mind for a while now.” He put his mug down and turned to face her.
Hearing the slight nervousness in his voice she turned around. “Well you know you can tell me anything right?”
“That’s one of the many reasons that I love you. Because we can tell each other everything.” He moved his hands into his pockets and she noticed, thinking that he’s getting cold.
“Are you cold?” She started taking off her gloves to give them to him.
“No, no I’m not cold. I just want to get something from my pocket.” He pulled his hands out but she couldn’t see what he pulled out.
“Okay if you say so,” she said, sounding unconvinced of his hands being cold.
“Listen we’ve known each other since you were a college student and we got together just short of two years ago.”
“Tony, you big sap.”
“I’m not done yet, Shannon.”
She nodded understanding and let him continue talking.
“In the span of these two years I’ve realized that you’re the person for me. I never thought about settling down until I met you...” He stopped to take a moment, looking at how surprised she looked. “I knew that there’s no one else but you.” He had gotten off his seat and got down on one knee.
“Tony…” She had no idea that he had been feeling this way. She never told anyone but she felt the exact same way.
“Shannon, will you marry me?” His eyes were full of hope and a bit of worry seeing as she wasn’t saying anything.
“Tony, I..I don’t know what to say. I’ve always dreamed of this happening,” she was babbling.
“I’m hoping you’ll say yes.” He laughed nervously.
What he wasn’t expecting was to have her land on him, landing them both in the snow. He laughed.
“Of course I’ll marry you, Tony!” she exclaimed, looking down at him and moving a bit of hair out his eyes. “There’s no one else I’d rather spend the rest of my life with.” She moved to kiss him and they spent a few moments simply kissing until the cold finally got to them and they both got up heading inside.
“Here, let me put the ring on your finger.” He grabbed her hand and was able to slip the ring on  her finger with ease seeing that it was the perfect size.
“It’s beautiful,” she said as she admired the simple engagement ring.
Marvel’s WandaVision and What’s Next for the MCU
https://ift.tt/3c4phnQ
This article contains WandaVision spoilers.
WandaVision has concluded with a terrific final episode, and with it, Marvel’s first foray into episodic television came to an end with startling success – taking a quiet story about a woman’s grief and loneliness, one of the most emotionally evocative pieces of MCU storytelling to date, and using it as a thread in the greater MCU tapestry. And that tapestry is unequivocally bigger now that the show is ended. Here are some of the pieces of groundwork WandaVision laid for the future of the MCU.
The Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange 2
Lots of people found it odd that the show used Wanda’s real name in its title when the rest of the MCU uses superhero code names. We know why now: the Scarlet Witch is itself a title, one that Wanda embraces by the end of the show. And now it looks like she’s going to be a huge deal for the future of the MCU.
Wanda ends the show by defeating Agatha Harkness and basically putting her back “in character” while the rest of the Westview illusion dissipates, then letting go of her own grief, dissipating the hex around Westview, and taking the Darkhold, (Agatha’s comprehensive guide to evil magical knowledge that named the Scarlet Witch as the magic user who would eventually destroy the world) to the woods to study for a bit.
WandaVision Episode 9: Post-Credits Scenes Explained
By Gavin Jasper
Wanda is now, to put it mildly, a BIG DEAL. The Darkhold, Agatha tells us, predicts that the Scarlet Witch would inevitably be more powerful than the Sorcerer Supreme, which makes a ton of sense knowing that Wanda is heading to Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness next.
Young Avengers
Or maybe not? Because the last thing we hear in the show are Billy and Tommy’s voices calling to their mother that something is wrong.
Billy and Tommy, like colorful Vision, disintegrated when the hex dissipated. They were entirely constructs, which meant their powers were loaned from Wanda, their personalities derived from her, their existence a nice fiction. Just like in the comics, where Billy and Tommy were absorbed into Master Pandemonium’s hands and never heard from again.
Except the time they joined the Young Avengers.
Here’s how the comics did it, and I bet how the MCU will too: Billy and Tommy were shards of Mephisto’s soul, captured by Wanda and put into hex magic constructs to be hers and synthezoid-so-not-capable-of-reproducing Vision’s kids. When they were reabsorbed by Mephisto, they ceased to exist, seemingly for good. Later, Tommy Shepherd and Billy Kaplan, two seemingly unrelated teenage boys, are united by virtue of their powers (Tommy is a speedster and Billy uses something that seems like hex magic) on a team of teenage Avengers stand ins. After several adventures, Billy and Tommy discover the truth about their powers: they are the reincarnated shards of souls that previously inhabited the made up Billy and Tommy Maximoff. So they’re kinda sorta actually Wanda and Vision’s kids. At least in their hearts.
A running mystery about Westview was “what happened to all the kids?” And that question was only partially answered during the show – some kids showed up after Wanda was confronted about it, while Dotty (actually a woman named Sarah) begged Wanda to let her daughter out from where she was locked up. We know prolonged exposure to the Hex gave Monica Rambeau her powers. It doesn’t feel like much of a leap for two random kids trapped inside the Hex to have also absorbed Billy and Tommy’s memories and powers when it came down.
Considering how much Young Avengers stuff is being laid on the table elsewhere – from Kate Bishop in the Hawkeye show, to Cassie Lang and Kang showing up in Ant-Man 3, to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier exploring the history of the super soldier program, this feels like a rock solid lock to come back.
Monica Rambeau and Captain Marvel 2
Monica Rambeau, the newly powered Photon, is pretty clearly headed for space.
In the mid-credits scene, Monica was taken aside by what appeared to be a SWORD agent, who revealed herself as a Skrull and indicated that somebody in space was looking for her. That somebody is pretty clearly Nick Fury, who was last seen in Spider-Man: Far from Home working with Skrulls, based on a space station, and dealing with interplanetary and interdimensional threats to Earth.
Through the entirety of WandaVision, SWORD was about monitoring “sentient weapons,” a pretty significant departure from its comics counterpart. Its comics counterpart is much closer to SHIELD but for aliens, something we all expected to happen when we saw Fury hanging out on that space station. It looks like that’s coming true, and the next logical place for that to happen would also be somewhere where we can explore the simmering discontent Monica has with Carol that she expressed at one point during the show. Also Monica’s powers are really cool and should be featured just about everywhere they can be.
Captain Marvel 2: What We Want to See
By Delia Harrington
It’s a safe bet that we’ll see Monica reappear on the Ms. Marvel TV show, and she’s long been confirmed for an appearance in Captain Marvel 2.
The Fantastic Four
This is just rampant speculation, but our belief that the seeds of the Fantastic Four in the MCU were sown in WandaVision remains strong. The SWORD uniforms are too close to F4 outfits, and the seemingly new mission of SWORD is too close to the Fantastic Four’s origin for there to be another easy, obvious way in. It’s very easy to imagine four SWORD agents, two of them siblings, getting caught by some cosmic rays on a mission in space and catching superpowers.
This also has the added convenience of giving them proximity to the Skrulls, historically as large a part of Fantastic Four lore as that of the Avengers. It’s just too easy to miss, even if neither Reed Richards nor Victor von Doom didn’t end up being the teased aerospace engineer.
X-Men and Mutants in the MCU?
Certain Denizens are adamant that we also saw the dawn of the mutants and thus the first seeds of the X-Men on screen in WandaVision. The theory goes that Wanda had latent powers that she used to defuse the bomb when she and Pietro were little, and the fact that the two of them were the only ones to survive exposure to the Mind Stone indicated latent mutant abilities activated by the stone.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
This theory feels like the biggest reach, but we will admit that there is something to Pietro having latent powers that allowed him to survive. That is probably the strongest circumstantial evidence for this theory, that WandaVision is also the dawn of the X-Men joining the MCU. But it’s still a little bit of a stretch, and if it was the launch of Marvel’s merry movie mutants, we’re sure to get more teases in upcoming shows and flicks.
