I just love the detail of Mickey having little anarchist and curse word doodles hung up in his room because that just SCREAMS "stay away from me I'm so scary and mean and edgy I'll kick your ass >:( ((god please. anyone. anyone help. I'm so lonely and scared and this house is a prison. this family is a prison))) FUCK YOU. FUCK EVERYBODY. LOOK I'M BIG AND BAD AND DRAWING A DICK ON A PIECE OF NOTEBOOK PAPER!!!'
anyway the set designers on shameless were really good at their jobs. That's it.
The difference between knowing how to write a bad parent having dementia without absolutely losing the point of how having an abuser as a parent can affect you and how you don't need to forgive them. (BECAUSE NOTHING SHOULD GIVE THE MESSAGE SHAMELESS GAVE)
In Beatrice's last scene we see BoJack empathizing with her but not forgiving her, because he doesn't have to.
He was genuinely feeling bad about her because he realized she's not the same person who abused him anymore.
We got to see Beatrice as a child, the abuse, the bullying, the being silent and mistreated, everything in just a couple of episodes. While in shameless we got 11 seasons to see Franks backstory and they barely showed that, the show ended with a scene trying to make us feel bad about an abuser without even explaining anything, we're just supposed to feel sorry for him because he has dementia? I'm not even saying that showing his past would've helped with the show giving a good message because someone's past doesn't justify their actions but they didn't even make an effort to try to write it in a good and not hurtful way.
I really think shameless is giving an awful point with Frank's character. They're basically telling you to forgive your abuser just because they're "also broken" which is completely ridiculous and can really affect other people's mental health and journey. While BJHM is showing not to forgive, just understand.
I know they're just shows but writers should be more aware of how showing these types of characters can affect real people who went through real abuse.
I don't hate Shameless but i do think the writers of that show should've thought things twice before giving this awful message (also being a famous show and a lot of people's comfort show this is even more dangerous)
I don’t think I have any for TWD! I have some I definitely like, definitely don’t like, like, don’t like, and am neutral about, but I don’t think there’s a single one that I’ve said “hmm, that’s interesting but I can’t get into it.” Maybe… maybe Rickyl and Desus? They don’t bug me but I don’t take the time to read them! The idea catches my attention and then I move on🤔
There are definitely some from other fandoms of mine that I have wished I could get into before, though. I know it’s an unpopular opinion but Fiona Gallagher and Jimmy/Steve from Shameless can’t snatch me. I get the ick when I see that man, even if he was technically her best relationship on the show. Also the same with Debbie Gallagher and Sandy Milkovich, I just dislike Debs way too much to even appreciate that we got a new LGBTQ+ pairing lol.
I’ve been a fan of Marvel and DC for as long as I can remember so there’s a handful there as well. For the ships in the MCU as well as Marvel Comics, cannot get into Tony Stark and Pepper Potts. They don’t even ick me but I never saw the appeal either. Same with Thor and Jane Foster. AAAAAGHHHHHHH!!!!! I used to hate them together adamantly but after the latest Thor film I had a little bit of “I wish I could get into it.” Can’t really get into… literally any Wade Wilson ships, including his current non-binary partner despite the initial excitement for more DP LGBTQ+ rep. I’m a massive Deadpool fan but I have no interest any time there’s a comic run w romance. Maybe that’s just my diehard Spideypool obsession… I think so actually since I’m not fond of Peter Parker x Mary Jane Watson/Michelle Jones or Peter x Gwen Stacy with the only exception of TASM 1&2. Pete and Wade are.. honestly.. probably my full-on fav ship 😭
Rounding back to DC Comics, my dislike for Bruce Wayne x Selina Kyle is completely purposeless, just don’t like it ig, every comic run with them getting married makes my lip curl which is just strange because I’m a sucker for hero x villain/anti-hero. Idk. Something in my brain also refuses to allow me to get into any Bruce Wayne x Talia Al Ghul storylines because of the one singular comic run where it was revealed that she rped and baby-trpped him. Justice for my Batsy boy. At least Damian came out of it! I also… may get crucified for the fact that I have no interest in Clark Kent x Lois Lane, or Dick Grayson x Princess Koriand'r, despite finding them precious. And for a fandom ship, I neutrally dislike Superbat.
Long ass answer but these are my biggest fandoms and ur already used to me talking a lot! Sorry bestie.

annabeth being weary of an amusement park because, in her experience, everything good has always been a trick, an illusion, a mirage (especially considering the very fresh and raw sting of betrayal from the only person she called family), and percy smiling at her in understanding and telling her to ”just…be a kid” because she was never given that privilege the same way he was…i’m going to SOB
The most realistic part of the Trevor/Ian relationship to me was Trevor being like "Your mom seems great, why can't you just forgive her? :D" and "you're a bad father. >:(. You need to leave >:(" because people who have no idea what your parents are really like and didn't grow up similar to you will think so differently and just assume that everything has an easy solution and I- like, idk if that was character assassination or not but it sure was realistic
Why are shows with gay people just like 10x better than any other in human existance?
Like every show with a gay person just automatically because revolutionary and has the most amazing fandoms with the most vivid, creative, awe-inspiring plots and word building.
Arcane, Good Omens, BBC Sherlock Holmes, Our Flag Means Death, Umbrella Academy, Shameless, BBC Merlin, The Last of Us, the list goes on!
But I feel like any other show, regardless of genre, just falls flat when it lacks the ✨crispness✨ of queerness. Am I the only one that thinks this?
