Woman of Color

It's been a long time since I've read a physical book to completion that I actually enjoyed page for page. "Woman of Color" was refreshing and kept me glued word for word. Latonya discusses what she's learned about motherhood, sisterhood, beauty, loss & resilience. The whole book is literally like sitting with your girls and talking about life and its changes/seasons.
My favorite parts revolved around style and beauty and most surprisingly motherhood and the transition into it. I also loved the interviews Latonya does with the black women in her life learning about their perspectives on beauty, style, loss, and so much more.
The interview excerpt that stuck out to me most was "Joy is your birthright. And anything that keeps you away from your joy is binding you from freedom" We have the choice to make our lives what we wish, we can enjoy our lives as we see fit, and we don't have to carry anyone's emotional baggage.. it's not ours to carry.

The mornings are getting darker. The evenings are, too. It’s a little chillier, don't you think? Well, if you start feeling a little blue around the holidays, we might have something for you. We call it Holiday Blues, and it’s back for 2023. 
You probably know the score by now. If you don’t, here’s a little intro to make your acquaintance. We are partnering with social good brands, mental health experts, and mindfulness aficionados to bring you the essential winter toolkit—and help you thrive during the darker months. Enough is happening right now to feel overwhelmed without these LONG, drawn-out days. If you suffer from S.A.D. (AKA seasonal depression) or struggle to offer yourself the right self-care, Tumblr and friends are bringing these small acts of nourishment straight to you. It takes very little time, very little energy, and doesn’t cost a thing.
How does it work? Easy-peasy. If you turn up, we will look after you. Over the coming weeks, we have classes tailor-made for TLC: space meditations, movement, music, and self-care.

Mindful Mondays: Out-of-this-world mindfulness session for a calming start to your week with @nasa.

Remember your why.
It's funny how friends can say just the right thing you needed to hear even though it was unintentional.
One of my @afronymphet said this while we were talking last night about feeling the pressure both invisible and our own to be 2x as good to set the example. The common saying most black people know. "You have to be twice as good to get what they have, to get where they are" This feeling has been strong in the past few weeks.
The pressure to do better, to be the absolute best because we know have to. Pressure to rise above and be phenomenal to serve our ancestors proud to serve our living family proud. We can not let their efforts to bring us here go to waste. Mediocre does not exist.
The feeling is miserable, sinking like an anchor tied to your heart and stomach. Anxiety and doubt are screaming through you, threatening to push you to quit right now while you're ahead. The feeling is so strong you fear you just might. But. Then you remember your "why".
Why you're doing this, why you're pushing through discomfort and doing the work. Your "why". No one else's. Your why comes to your thought almost immediately. Maybe it's to change a dire situation, maybe it's to bring more happiness into your life, maybe it's to feel at peace or just get to a point where you feel okay with yourself. Whatever your why is, it's completely exclusive to you.
Your why is the reason you're willing to push through the discomfort, your why is the reason you keep going every day even though you are exhausted. Your why is purely and simply just that it's a reason. Your why is your secret formula in your choices & decisions you make to create the life you've always wanted for yourself.

ten small habits to start doing ♡

never go to the bathroom with your phone. It's gross , wastes time , and spreads germs.
are you a forgetful person? set alarms and reminders for things you need to do (drinking water , homework , showering, etc)
be kind! always say hi to people you know and smile at strangers. don't be afraid to compliment people too!!
cant be bothered exercising? try dancing instead. this could be learning a new dance , a Kpop choreography , literally anything!
put screen-time on your phone/devices. maybe start off with 10pm - 7am being the time that you shouldn't be on any devices, and then gradually increase it. it will help you be more productive and sleep better.
if you have a sweet tooth like me but are still trying to be healthy , try starting off the day with something sweet! fruits and oats , honey and porridge , french toast , pancakes , etc.
try cooking/baking/making something new each week. i allocate a Sunday each week to looking through a recipe book , walking down to a grocery store , coming back and baking something! cooking is a very helpful skill.
double cleanse your face every morning and night. even if you don't wear makeup , it helps get rid of any excess dirt and leaves your face fresh and clean!
when using skincare (more specifically moisturiser), never rub the product into your skin in a downward motion! it can drag your face down over time. try an upward or circular motion instead.
keep your house tidy , especially your room / workspace. tidy space = tidy mind.

Witchy Self-Care
*pulls out draft from over a year ago* ENJOY
Hi! this is a list of witchy self-care things you can do. Most of these are pretty basic on account that i wrote this ages ago but they definitely still work. Anyways, I hope these help :)
Do the dishes and dedicate it to your house spirit (if you have one) or a deity (if you're religious)
sweep/mop your floor in the shape of sigils
add rosemary (or rosemary water/essential oils) to the water you mop with to set an intention of cleansing
taking ritual a bath/shower
cleansing your energy. it's so basic but I forget more than i'd like to admit
dedicating time to yourself. it's just as important as dedicating time to your deities/other spirits
light shadow work or going to therapy. bettering your mental health also betters your spiritual.
go outside and ground yourself
take a nap (less witchy, more, I love naps. rest is important)
work out/stretch and dedicate it to an entity
do some gratitude
take 5 minutes to just sit and turn off your devices. you can use this time for anything, just take a second to get off screens and connect with the world around you
meditate. if you can't sit still long enough to meditate, just focus on taking 3 deep breathes
when you wash your face, draw sigils on your face with the cleanser and moisturiser
^do the same as above but with your body wash and when you wash your hair
say some affirmations/manifestations while brushing your teeth
just check in with yourself and see how you're feeling spiritually, psychically and emotionally. sometimes we don't actually know how we're feeling until we sit down and actually ask ourselves.
