“All I Saw Was You" Timeline

Summary:

My Stiles/Jackson series called "All I Saw Was You" starts 14 years after the end of season 2 which is what I call the "present". At the same time, you also find out what happened in the "past" and what happens in the "future". This timeline establishes an order of the chapters throughout the years but personally, I recommend to read it in the order in which is posted on AO3.

* This timeline will be updated when I post more parts.

* I’m posting it here to link it on the description of my series and delete it from AO3, so it needs to edited another day after deleting 3 chapters like this one that were not “stories”. I can’t risk losing my account or having it frozen again for something like this.

* I love to know what people think of the story, the OCs, the voices, etc... so feedback is very welcome and always cheers me up. I reply as soon as I can.

Notes:

I never expected to write this timeline and that's why I had not done it in six years—Because I still think that it's better to read the story as it's been posted, but Aceadams asked me last month if I had done one and I remembered that Wam6996 had also asked me about it a lot of time ago... so I started to think about it as a way to establish a sort of layout of the story in a more visual way (not as a reading order although people are free to read it as they wish/prefer), and finally, I was like "okay, why not?" So, I decided to write it down.

This has taken some time to finish, so it'd be nice to know if it's useful for anybody... because I also thought that, apart from those two people, maybe nobody would care about it.

so when the opportunity came for him to finally escape ? the decision to switch sides was hardly a decision at all. taking the offer of a mercifully outstretched hand , madison had given up everything ⸻ every little secret he had been TRAINED to keep. choosing to work for one of the very governments he had studied so hard to take down and topple , his skills were put to use in securing their power instead. all he asked for in return ? his freedom.

　　—　 post - apocalypse : he was on a mission gone terribly fucking wrong when the zombies came a ‘ bitin. dragged kicking and screaming out of an interrogation room ⸻ the last he saw of his wife was the stubborn set of her lip , and a fierceness to her eyes that burned brightbrightbright. ( the first few weeks of the apocalypse passed entirely unknown to mads , who was kept locked away in a cell by a continuously dwindling number of guards. ) but by the time he finally escaped : governments had already fallen , the world had completely blacked out ⸻ it was too late , and the beginning of the end was already here.

　　—　 soon after : by the time he made it back to the last place he’d seen nic , there was nothing left of his wife to trace , neither anyone else to seek vengeance upon. ( he’d made sure that the piece of shit that betrayed them was deader than dead , and the rest of their teammates were either scattered in the wind , or worse : dead too. ) still , giving up without any proof of nic being well and truly gone was never an option , and so mads spent months drifting from camp to camp for even the slightest clue that would lead him back to her.

　　—　 fast forward : alongside his desperate search , he saved some lives , and he built new connections. hell , he even managed to help organize the liberation of a fucking hospital. so while the plan had been to move on as soon as the new camp was well and truly settled , the fear of abandoning those he knew to be alive and in need of his help had kept him stationed ⸻ held him back from drifting too far. pouring all his time and attentions into the camp’s safety , making sure to keep busy. ( how long could one man chase a memory before they eventually became a ghost ? before it was time to let the dead truly stay dead. )

　　—　 is probably known around camp as that guy who’s still in love with his wife and will not shut up about her and how you shouldn’t get attached because he’s not here to stay !!!! actually , he’s probably gonna leave in a week or so !! ( and wdym that’s the same thing he said last week , and the week before that akkwejfnawe. ) he just ... tends to get really morose from time to time when he has too much free time , so just let him work through it until he can find 300 other things to pile onto his plate , until he eventually overworks himself and thankfully passes out !

　　—　 in contrast : he is also that terrifying guard who can kill you in sixty different ways at any given time , and has a constant awareness of his surroundings that’s just ... unnerving. he usually only uses his skills for good though , and he’s taken it upon himself to train up some of the members of their camp who’ve asked !! with infiltration having always been his specialty as a spy and agent , he’s incredibly tactically minded , and lends his expertise to organizing the guard.

　　—　 he might come off as kind of an intense dude , but he’s honestly just ... a Dumb Guy™ !! like even throughout his training as a kid , he was very much a shirker of duties and and a skipper of lessons. more likely to be found pushing the limits of his handler’s patience , and turning in with mottled bruises and blood still dripping as he’d insist on the independence of free thinker rather than the absolute compliance they demanded of him. ( he’s obviously grown since then , but he’s just ... not in the habit of taking anything too seriously. )

　　—　 is probably one of the better adjusted members of their new reality, seeing as he grew up surrounded by the worst of humanity’s ugly underbelly , and was trained to adapt to such situations. very much a go with the flow kinda guy ! though he won’t hesitate to gut you like a fish if you hurt a member of his camp , and even more so anyone he personally cares for.

　　—　 has a scottish accent !! though throughout the majority of his career in the states , he spoke with an american accent outside of secured facilities to be extra careful. ( even now , his scot only comes out when he’s comfortable or really vexed. )

Summary: When you're uncertain how to tell someone what you think of them, music will always be there to help.

A/N: I think Cater is one of the character’s most open to diverse music genres, with how he’s on top of and informed about trendy things. But probably enjoys some genres better than others (def see him as an indie enjoyer).

Also, let’s pretend like Daft Punk is otherwordly (bc they are tbh *big Daft Punk fan*) and are inhabitants of the Wonderland.

"Hey, guys-" Before the Heartslabyul student could finish his question, the other two interrupted.

"I didn't break the drum!"

"Yes, I stole the academy's relic… but it was just for a day, do not worry~"

"H-Huh?" Diamond was confused, "I wasn't gonna…"

"Oh? Then forget about it!" Lilia and Kalim said, smiling to dissipate the awkwardness.

Cater sighed, paying no mind to their little outburst. "Anyways, I wanted to ask you guys something."

"Whatever it may be, young one?" Lilia ushered him.

"Uh…" Damn, Lilia sometimes acted strange, "Ahem! So...uhm... How would you...confess to someone?" Cater finally asked.

Lilia smirked mischievously at him, while Kalim appeared to be clueless of the topic.

"Oh? Pray tell, who is the lucky soul that holds your affection?" Yeah, the old bat was definitely enjoying this wholeheartedly.

Kalim quickly perked up, "I know, I know! It's-!"

"AAH-TATATA!! Kalim, don't!" The redhead immediately slapped his hand over Scarabia's dorm head’s mouth.

Diasomnia’s vice leader giggled in amusement, "Oh~! A secret you only told Kalim out of both of us, huh?"

Diamond groaned in frustration, "Alright, alright!" He sighed, slowly letting go of Kalim, "It's-"

Once again, the enthusiastic student interrupted him, "[Name]! It's [Name]!" He smiled his toothy grin.

Lilia looked at him in a teasing way, "My, my~ The otherworldly human has you smitten, is it~?"

"Completely smitten!!" Kalim's signature laugh resounded through the room.

The Heartslabyul 3rd year groaned into his hands as he facepalmed, "Yes, okay! I-! I-I fell down hard for them!" His blush was vivid. "Back to the matter at hand, please?!" He finally looked up from his palms to desperately get an answer for his club mates.

Lilia finished chuckling, "Right, right… Why not outright say it to them, or perhaps writing a letter is a better option for you?"

"Would prefer it to be something less…direct or flashy…" Cater rebutted.

The bat held his chin in thought, "Leaving a letter for them to discover is still a probable viable, no?"

"So dancing or arranging a parade for them is out of the table, right? A party, too, is out?" Kalim corroborated with himself.

The three kept thinking of viable options, until…

An imaginary lightbulb went off!

"I've got it!" Scarabia's prefect exclaimed.

The other two looked at him to encourage him to continue.

"You've told us how you and them share music you like, and how they talk to you about some of their favorite songs from back in their world. Why not build them a personalized playlist or serenade them with a love song or something similar like that?" The white-haired boy inquired with a curious smile.

Lilia nodded in agreement to the idea, "You can present them the playlist nonchalantly, as if it were another of your typical music exchanges. No need to give a specific reason for the gift other than sharing some interesting songs."

Cater considered the idea a few more seconds, pointing out to himself the pros and cons of confessing this way. Seems relatively harmless and perfect for you.

"Alright," He nodded, "I'll make them a special CD with songs that remind me of them...and perhaps some love songs, too." He whispered the last part.

The Asim heir pat his friend's back, "If ya need help with anything, don't hesitate to ask us! I'll be glad to show you some interesting and meaningful songs from back home."

"The Valley of Thorns has some beautiful ballads and orchestral music that carry a love-filled energy with them. It'll be my pleasure to play them live for you to record." Lilia added.

The green eyed boy thanked them, "I'll keep it in mind!"

They went back to practice and attended their club activities after it was settled.

Cater dedicated his days to build the perfect playlist for you, spending entire evenings selecting the most meaningful songs for him and those that reminded him of you and your relationship.

As he worked, he did ask Lilia, Kalim and some other friends to introduce him to new songs that held deep emotions interlaced in the melody.

Days and days he spent crafting the perfect mix… Until all his efforts bore a beautiful unique fruit filled with love and appreciation.

Now, all he needed to do was wait for the perfect moment to give it to you.

- 02. 10. XX -

Ideally, he wanted to give you his gift on Valentine's Day, but his nerves and excitement ate away at his brain and heart.

"What if their way back home suddenly appears?"

"What if someone confesses first and they reciprocate?"

"What if...what if another overblot happens and leaves them terribly injured?"

"Great Seven forbid." He knocked on wood immediately after that frightening thought crossed his mind.

Lilia always seemed to know more than he appears to, and his aura made him feel at ease, like with a responsible and caring parental figure. Cater expressed his stress to his fellow 3rd year, the words he told him had the love-struck boy in the present situation:

"They may not be here forever, they may leave sooner or later. If you hold your words and feelings at bay any longer, it may be too late… Go, dare do what your heart calls for. It will be scary, yes, but it will bring immense satisfaction."

There was Cater, standing some ways away from you and your group of friends.

"It's now or never…" With a last deep breath, he put on his easygoing smile and made his way to you.

A light tap on your shoulder, "Hey-oh, [Nickname]-chan~! Say, could I borrow you for a bit?" It was the cheery voice you loved.

Turning around, you smiled at your senpai. "Ah, Cater, hello! Sure, there's no problem." You handed Grim over to Deuce to carry as you excused yourself for a minute.

"What could it be that you need me for?" You questioned the upperclassman as you put some distance between you and the 1st year group.

"You can do it! Your goal is right before you!" He encouraged himself, steeling his nerves for a brief moment.

"I… Y'know how we exchange music and all that, right?" He waited for you to nod, "Well~! Your lovely Cater-senpai prepared this!” He presented a decorated CD box.

"Oh?!" Came your excited response to seeing the beautiful disc.

He giggled a little, you were so adorable~. "Ta-da!! A special CD prepared with songs selected specifically for you!" Cater took your hand and placed it on your palm, "I want you to enjoy every second of it, yes?"

You kept looking from his eyes to the object in your hands, back and forth, until you exploded in happiness.

"Oh my goodness, thank you so much, Cater-senpai!! I'll treasure this with my life!!" Your arms acted on their own accord and wrapped themselves around the 3rd year.

Diamond flushed, standing stunned for a few seconds before his arms went around you as well, one hand patting your back lightly.

The embrace was short-lived for students passed by and giggled mockingly at the show of affection.

You giggled nervously, scratching the back of your neck, "Ehehe… Uhm… sorry if I seem rude, but I gotta go now… y'know, to eat and all that."

"Oh, of course! See ya 'round, [Nickname]!" Your senior said.

So both split ways to your respective group of friends after one last expression of gratitude and a curt farewell.

Of course, your friends asked what that was all about. You played it off, saying it was a normal occurrence between you, and by no means did you mention the gift received.

That evening, well after parted ways with your group, you decided to head over to Mr.S’s shop. Ramshackle dorm only had old vinyl disc and cassette players, even the ghosts knew not about CD player. Thus, you wanted to see if Sam had in stock any sort of compatible player for you to buy, as long as it was affordable.

"A peculiar request, little devil, but nothing my friends can't get." With a wink, he banished to the backroom in search of your petition.

"Oh, [Name]! Nice to see you!" Kalim approached you on the counter as he greeted.

You waved at him with a smile, "Hello, Klaim! Nice to see you, as well."

His curious pomegranate eyes scanned you, "You out here getting some snacks, groceries?"

"Oh! Cater gave me a CD and turns out Ramshackle has no compatible players." Sam returned from his search with a box as you explained, "Thus why I wanted to see if Sam had any in stock!" You turned to the shopkeeper.

"Nothing's impossible for me and my friends! Here's your request, it'll be 10,000 Madol." The magician said.

Your heart broke a little. "O-Oh! ...oh…"

Before you could say any more, Kalim swooped in, for his imaginary lightbulb once more lit up. “That CD must be Cater’s confession!”

"She'll take it!" BAM! He slammed the money on the counter, completing the transaction before any complaints could be said.

Your fellow prefect thanked Sam, pushing you out of the shop as he carried the player and waved goodbye to the clerk.

"Kalim, what did you just do?!?! How could I ever repay this?!" You were in mild panic at his disregard for money.

The pearly-white haired boy laughed, "No need to worry about it!" He pushed the box onto your chest for you to carry now, "Maybe drop by Scarabia soon? We can have a grand banquet for the occasion! Bring Grim, too, and help us all cook! That's enough payment for me." Before you could notice, he was already steps away from you.

"Oh! Ah-! S-Sure will! Thank you very much for this!!" You yelled back at him and waved as best you could while carrying the box.

Sighing, you went back to your dorm. "Kalim...what a peculiar guy, huh?" Nonetheless, you smiled.

All needed pieces were in your possession now: a compatible player, the CD, and a working power outlet.

Grim would often complain about the music you would play from the phone Crowley gave you, that’s why you decided to isolate in another room to listen to Cater's gift.

Music played, a beautiful harmonious melody that you recognized!

"The first song Cater introduced me to!"

A pop song you knew by memory now, even if the language was foreign to you. The joy this song evoked made you giggle and dance in place as you hummed and mumbled parts of the chorus.

It was followed by a peaceful yet intense orchestral ballad. The raw emotion transmitted by the string instruments made chills run through you.

"Holy! This is amazing!"

An idol group's cheerful happy sounding song came up, it fired up your idol fan senses.

"This definitely gets the crowd jumping, waving lightsticks! How fun!"

You listened to the CD for the following days, going through a couple of songs each time before Grim began screaming for you to help him with his assignments or with needing your thumbs to open his precious tuna can.

Every new song you were introduced to roused a beautiful rush of emotions in you, sparks and butterflies fluttering all through you.

- 02. 13. XX; 10:30 p.m. -

Only one more song left to listen.

You would often go back and listen to some of the first songs before your first run of the CD ended.

However, one observation you could make was… All songs were in different languages unique to Twisted Wonderland, or completely instrumental. Sure, some had small phrases in "Earth" languages here and there, but they were scarce.

Still, it was a blast to go through each melody.

This last song, surprisingly…. was in a language you understood.

You were a little sleepy, and hearing the tranquil start of the song made the room fall into the perfect mood. Your mind was at ease, vibing to the rich bass line and the first few sung lines…. but suddenly...

The lyrics had you awake and alert in no time [song].

“Something about us? Something between us? A secret to share?” You pondered what he was trying to say with this song.

Heart pounding in excitement and nervousness, you waited for the singer to continue…

I need you more than anything in my life

I want you more than anything in my life

I'll miss you more than anyone in my life

I love you more than anyone in my life

You gasped.

"Did he…? Did he just…?!"

. . . . silence . . . .

A loud holler of "HELL YEAH!!!" left your lips as you jumped around in excitement.

Of course, your sudden outburst alerted several of Ramshackle's residents.

"Young [Name]! We heard you scream, what happened?!" A group of ghosts came to your aid.

You stopped your outburst, big dumb happy grin on full display, with rosy cheeks to complete the look.

Immediately, you ran to them and began circling them, jumping and giggling with glee.

"He likes me! He likes me back, ghosts! He actually likes me baaaack!!!" You were ecstatic.

The spirits floated in place, minds blank as they tried to piece together the information.

"Like them back…?"

"All those songs…"

"A confession?"

Somehow, it all made sense now.

"Oh! You mean the person who gave you that CD filled with love songs is someone you fancy!"

"You reciprocate each other's feelings!"

"Thus your screeching…. We thought you were hurt, had us concerned." One was grumpy about it, but immediately smiled again, "At least the reason is happiness and not something negative."

You chuckled once more, the ghosts were so cute sometimes!

"Wait…" Something hit you, "You knew these were love songs and didn't tell me?!" A pout shaped your lips.

"Ohohoho, excuse us, [Name]!" The chubby spirit laughed.

The tall slender one continued, "We sometimes forget you don't understand dialects from the Wonderland."

They explained to you what some of the songs conveyed, getting a feel around the modern slang used in them that they did not understand. One of the spirits knew what the orchestral pieces meant! They even called other school ghosts to interpret songs in languages they weren't familiar with.

This new information made you decide to do something for Cater in order to show him your feelings in your own way.

Thanking all your ectoplasmic friends, you got to work.

One look at the calendar revealed the perfect date to do your thing.

"An all-nighter it'll be, no problem!"

- 02. 14. XX; 06:00 a.m. -

Grim groaned as he shook the sprawled body on the desk, "Stop sleeping and wake up already, [Name]!! We're gonna be late yanno!! We can't be skipping another one of Trein's lessons!” The tiny chaos bringer poked your shoulder with his claws.

"Who goes'ere?!" You slurred, startled awake by the prickly pain on your shoulder. Whipping around to find the culprit, Grim's frantic screams of "Stop!" registered in your brain.

"Goddamn it, Grim! I've told you not to use your claws-!"

The cat-like monster interrupted you, "Shut up about that already! We're gonna be late!!"

Brain fully alert and on edge now, you shoot up from your seat. "What?! Why didn't you wake me up earlier! I have things to do!"

Grim just sighed in frustration at your words, but quite enjoyed seeing you fret around the room and fling clothes everywhere in your headless chicken bout of panic as you rushed to get ready for class.

In a flash, you were both running out the door (well, more like you were doing all the running as Grim clung to you for dear life).

However, you first made a super quick stop at the shop to buy some spicy ramen packets and flavourful snacks for your gift. You also sneaked in little candies to give to your fellow first years.

"I'll have to come back later for some more candy for my senpais!"

Crashing into the classroom, you arrived (relatively) safe at your usual desk.

Ace and Deuce tried to greet you but you quickly pushed Grim onto them and rushed out the door. "Hello, ADeuce! Have Grim for a bit, gotta go!"

As fast as your feet could take you, you ran through halls and flights of stairs to arrive at class 3-B. "15 minutes to spare, let's make it count!"

There he is! Your target!

"CATER!!!" You yelled, effectively making the Heartslabyul student turn around.

Before anyone could register what happened, you were already pulling him towards you, lips crashing on his in a clumsy, rushed kiss.

His eyes widened, "Hmmgh?!" Cheeks bright red, hands nervously placed themselves on your upper arms. For a brief moment, he relaxed and kissed back, enjoying the little smile on your lips as the liplock continued.

Hearts fluttered as your first kiss together carried on, however….

"Kufufu" A familiar voice laughed some ways away, "My, my~ The indecency of young ones these days~!"

At the remark, you separated and nervously kept to yourselves. Faces flaring up and eyes wandering around to the voice's owner.

Lilia winked, chuckling one last time and signaling to the people around you before leaving the scene. Both of you scanned your surroundings, various students looked away while others were caught staring.

Clearing your throat, you spoke, "Well...guess I don't have to say much more, huh?"

His eyes focused on you. A million tender emotions danced within those vibrant pools of green, while a lovely sincere smile shaped his lips.

"Guess not." His voice was so soft, the softest you've ever heard it.

Your blush gained a couple more shades, "Cater… the music was so… beautiful," A content sigh escaped you, "I enjoy every minute of it, thank you so much."

Diamond's smile widened as he scratched the back of his head, "E-Everything in those songs, I mean it… Sorry I, uhm, chose languages you’re unfamiliar with."

"Oh, don't worry about it! The ghosts helped me with that!" An airy giggle, "Besides, it helps introduce me to this land's cultures."

There was a silence around you, but it was not awkward. It hangs there, giving you a sense of intimacy and peace.

"At any rate," You spoke once more, "I wanted to give you this." You presented him a bag of goodies, the ones you stopped to buy this morning, and an envelope with a letter with all your feelings for him you spent all night writing.

"Sorry my gift doesn't compare to yours, but-" His arms around you in a strong embrace cut your rambling.

"Anything from you is a treasure to me. Thank you, [Name]." Cater whispered, face nuzzled on your neck. "You've just made me so happy. Your gift, your love… is more than enough."

Shaky breaths left him, you could only assume he was holding back tears. This made you hold back some of your own.

With just as much strength and love, you hugged your Diamond back. "I love you, Cater." He held you even closer.

The first warning bell rang, signaling students to go into their classrooms before class began.

The embrace ended, yet Cater remained close to you, standing in front of you.

"Better get to class before you're scolded once more, [Nickname]~" His regular teasing tone came to his voice.

You giggled, "Ah~, guess I'll have to rush back to class before Trein sensei gets there… and you!" A playful pointed look in your eyes as you mockingly scold him, "No Magicam surfing in class!"

"Eh?! How unfair~!" Both of you laughed.

Looking into each other's eyes for one last time, you smiled, "Gotta go now."

Cater nodded, but before letting you part ways, he placed one last little peck on your lips. "See you after class, okay, [Nickname]?"

You nodded back, "See you after class, Cay-kun." A playful wink accompanied your words.

With that, you both made your ways to your respective classrooms, turning around one last time to wave each other goodbye.

That CD ended up being the perfect playlist for love to bloom~♡

Jin’s also shit at feelings he’s used to being the shoulder to cry on not needing the shoulder..he’s not used to feeling vulnerable...so it’s not to easiest for him to admit that he misses being the one you all come home too...misses being “needed”! He’s used to being the one that has his shit together, being the glue that’s held you lot together during your worst times..so this...is completely out of his comfort zone!

Summary: The reader finds herself in the company of strangers after the game.

You heard other shouting and yelling you were able to pick out a few words like kill and other things you were not appreciative of.

You got up and stumbled towards the lights in the other room. You heard some banging as you rounded the corner and leaned against the door frame. Brett was running towards you when a guy punched him and he fell unconscious.

“I guess I still have a little werewolf strength myself.” His eyes glowed blue unlike Brett’s they had a cold color.

“Hey Doc I don’t think he’s breathing.”

The older gentlemen came over and used a scalpel to cut open his chest. A small amount of yellow gas came out and you heard him catch his breath. You collapsed to the floor next to him and blacked out again.

3rd person P/O/V

“Do you hear that?” Stiles put his ear near Brett to listen to what he was muttering.

“Three things cannot long be hidden. The sun, the moon, the truth.” Deaton piped up after he listened for a few moments.

“Satomi.” Derek and Peter said looking at each other.

Peter soon after left probably because he didn’t really care all that much.

“Okay doc what about her? She’s not looking to good.” Stiles pointed at the girl who had collapsed next to Brett on the floor.

“Can you put her on the table and clean up some of that blood if it’s any worse than it looks we should take her to a hospital.” Stiles and Derek lifted the girl up onto the table before Stiles used a piece of gauze with some rubbing alcohol.

Stiles stopped in a few seconds to look at the bizarre manifestation on the table. Derek and Deaton were helping Brett into a back room so he could rest after the Wolfbane.

“Derek, Deaton I think you should come look at this.” They both walked in as Stiles asked to see the girl there, with a tail. Not an animal tail but a mermaid tail.

“Well that’s new even for me.” Derek piped up from beside Deaton.

“I guess hospital is not an option.” The girl started to move

Your P/O/V

You woke up on a cold metal table pushing yourself up on your elbows. Looking down you could see your tail hanging off the edge of the table and beyond it three curious sets of eyes.

“Where am I? Where’s Brett?” You were ready to try and fight your way out if you had to.

“Okay calm down, we’re here to help.”

“How is doing this helpful?” You gestured towards your tail. You reached a hand out and used your powers to dry off.

“My name is Deaton, I am a veterinarian. We promise we are not here to hurt you.” He walked towards you and you jumped up on the table so your legs were beneath you. You crouched down defensively ready to make a move if any of them moved defensively.

“Where is Brett?” You lowered your voice in an attempt to sound slightly more intimidating.

“Brett’s in the other room recovering.”

“How do you know about us?” You slowly climbed down on the other side of the table so it was between you and the three men. You knew you could probably take on the skinny one and the old man but the other one was a wild card.

“Look we only know about Brett because of the deadpool.” The one with the broad shoulders and dark hair walked towards you. “My name is Derek. I’m a werewolf too. I was born a werewolf.”

“Like Brett,” you muttered under your breath. “And you’re sure he’s safe here?”

“Yes he will be. We need to make sure you’re okay you hit your head pretty bad and lost a lot of blood.”

“Let me see Brett first.”

The older man gestured for you to follow him you walked around the table to follow him into a back room. Brett was lying down on a makeshift bed made of chairs with a blanket draped over him as you saw his chest rise and fall rhythmically. Deaton reached out towards you and guided you back into the main room. He had you sit in the table while he took a good look at your wounds.

“I never asked what is your name?”

“I’m Y/N,” You looked over to the other side of the room where Derek and Stiles were having a very animated conversation.

“Some very special abilities you have there. In all my years of interacting with the supernatural I have never meet a mermaid.”

“We’re not as rare as you might imagine. Most of us live in the sea, well born mermaids that is. I ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time and this happened.”

“That’s very unusual.” Derek walked over to you with his arms crossed over his chest.

“We need to find the rest of Brett’s pack to worn them.”

“I’m sorry I don’t know much actually. I actually just transferred to Devenford a few days ago. I found out about Brett on accident I don’t know much other than he called his Alpha Satomi.”

“Alright I’ll figure something out if he doesn’t wake up soon.”

“Can someone drive me back to the place the game was my car is there.” You looked around for your phone. “Has anyone seen my phone? It was in my purse.”

“You didn’t have a purse on you when we found you passed out in the locker room.”

“Do you have Brett’s phone I need to call someone?” Stiles walked off and came back with Brett’s gym bag. You reached in and found his phone, when the screen lit up it had several missed calls and texts from Lori.

You quickly dialed her number and she picked up immediately.

“Brett thank god. What happened? Where are you? Wheres Y/N? Are you alright?”

“Lori calm down it’s me I am with Brett.” You heard her let out a sigh of relief.

“Are you still at the other school?”

“Well Brett was my ride so yeah and I have your purse you left it in the bleachers.”

“Okay I will meet you there in a few minutes.” You hung up and put Brett’s phone back in his bag. You walked past the rest of the guys to the room where Brett was asleep.

“I have to go Brett, I have to watch out for Lori just like you asked I’ll be back in the morning okay?” You placed a gentle kiss to his forehead before tucking his bag under one of the chairs and leaving the room.

“Alright who is bringing me back to my car my friend is waiting for me.” For some reason you had the urge to protect Lori with your life. With that it included her secret.

“I’ll take her Derek are you okay?” Stiles looked over at Derek as he was chatting with Deaton. Derek didn’t say a word but Stiles somehow got an answer from just his expression. Stiles lead you outside to a blue jeep and opened the passenger side door for you before rushing around to the other side to get in and drive.

“So how did you become a mermaid? Were you born a mermaid? If you’re from Australia why don’t you have an accent? Do you transform with water or is it any liquid? Can you fight? What kind of powers do you have?” He kept bombarding you with questions without pausing for you to answer.

“What are you? Actually better question who are you?” You turned so you were facing him as he drove, slightly erratically, towards the high school.

So, I just finished playing Hello Neighbor and I'm here to give it my personal rating because reasons.

First off, I'll admit that the only reason I even was able to beat it was because I used walkthroughs. Without them, I never would have figured out half the shortcuts and mechanics and secrets (more on that later), but I just wanted to see how the game actually turned out in the end because most Youtubers I watched play it kinda gave up after like the 3rd version that got released. That being said...

Overall Game Rating: 6/10

So at its core this game had potential. I WANTED the final version of this game to be better than it was. Would it ever have been the best game ever? I highly doubt it. But it could have been much more noteworthy if it had just *functioned* better. I'm also fully aware that I'm several years late, but man I just need to give my discourse and opinions to someone who isn't 9 or a completely lost parent. Anyways, allow me to explain myself in the good old fashioned Tumblr way of bullets-

The Good

Physical design. Now, this is a completely personal opinion here, but I liked how the game looked. It was colorful, it had its own distinct style. There were very few occasions when I couldn't tell what something was, and most of the time those indistinguishables weren't remotely important. I also like how the writing in the game was scrambled to kinda make it fun and nonsensical, but you could still pretty much tell what it was meant to say.

Story! Guys, the main reason I came back to this game in the first place; the reason I really wanted to see it finished and see what happened in all those chapters that I never saw finished; was because I wanted to get more of the story. I wanted to know what happened, and while I'm still not entirely certain, I have several theories. And all the theories follow the same general track with a few basic deviations, so I'd say that the game did a pretty good job of getting it's focal points across.

The puzzel aspect. I like games that make me (when I'm actually playing seriously and not just playing to get through it) think. And I wasn't using the guide every step of the way, so I had a genuinely good time figuring out what items went to what, and what I could do with certain objects that I couldn't achieve with others. I think the overall idea of "hey, run around this dude's house and work out his overly complicated, Ikea-like home full of coniptions and contraptions" super fun.

Multiple ways to reach endings. Now, mainly this applied to Act 2 in my experience because Act 1 seemed pretty straightforward and Act 3 had me frustrated for so many days to the point where I couldn't really appreciate its options (more on that in a bit), but I'm sure there were deviating paths there as well. Point is, I saw 3 seperate ways of escaping the Neighbor's house in act 2, and I just sorta thought that was cool. And considering I'm playing for myself, and guiding (playing) two children through their own files, I managed to get two of those 3 escapes. The endings were the same, but still, it's cool.

The secrets and optional pathways. There were several rooms that I never actually managed to get into when i was playing through just because I wasn't secret I hunting. But I DID take notice of them, plus there were quite a few that I just happened to find my way into during my run arounds, and I explored because hey! Secrets! And I'm sure there was a ton of extra story material I missed because I neglected a lot of them, but I can appreciate a game that leaves its little hidden details as something you sort of have to work for. If I ever find the patience and the time one day, maybe I'll go back for them.

Audio warnings. Okay okay, so I was a big dummy and played through the first 2 Acts without any sound, and only plugged in headphones for the second half of Act 3. But once I did, having the music pick up in warning when the neighbor spotted me, or being able to hear the mannequins coming was very nice.

The minigames/cut scenes. And I'm not including the Fear rooms in this because I did not take anywhere near as much intrest or enjoyment out of those. I mean the things you were just mean to sorta run through. The bits where you could see the neighbor at his lowest. The bits that showed that maybe, maybe this dude that you've been cussing out the entire game is actually just some dude who had a really tough run, and just ended up snapping. The bits that kinda make you feel bad for barging into his home and shattering all his windows and just being a general dick. The bit at the very end got me especially- when he's trapped in the room by the shadow figure, and he sorta looks out the window at you, and then just stands dejectedly in the corner. I wanted to help him. I REALLY wanted to help him. I felt bad leaving.

The Bad

Limited functionality. Oh my lord, if this game hadn't been so effing glitchy the whole way through, I might have been able to give it a 7 or 8 out of 10. But it just...didn't. There were so many times when things would just vanish from my inventory and I'd have to reload, or the puzzle wouldn't solve the way it was meant to and I'd have to Macgyver my way around it. There were also several times where I would be trying to hide in a locker/closet, and my character would get stuck in the door of said locker/closet. Half the time it would get me caught, and half the time I'd have to button mash for several minutes before I could get free. The worst possible glitch I had during my whole experience was when I was trying to get up to the roof garden in Act 3. My walkthrough told me I had to get in the trolley and stop it just before a ledge to jump up. The problem is THE TROLLEY WOULDN'T STOP. Every time I tried, I'd either glitch through the front and get hit and die, or it would just completely break the train and it would just go into constant motion, not even making its programmed stops at the different stations.

Ridiculous enemy sightline triggers. Listen, Act 2 in particular was absolute HELL to get through the first time (and even unnecessarily difficult after I took the lids through it the 2nd and 3rd times) because the neighbor could be like 3 blocks down and inside his local "Murderous Psycos Anonymous" meeting, and yet the moment I step foot in his yard he's on a dead sprint to my location. And don't even get me STARTED on the mannequins in the Fear rooms. Their sightline triggers were so ridiculously unfair that if I hadn't had the sound triggers telling me they were coming, I never would have gotten past those rooms. But the sensitivity could have even been brushed off, if it were even remotely consistent. There were other times when I would be standing directly in front of the Neighbor, shining a flashlight in his eyes and staring him head on, and yet because I was crouched and slightly out of his sightline (this happened several times in the basement of Act 1.)

Pointless enemy boundaries. By this, I mean that the Neighbor is (apparently) meant to stop at the boundaires of his property when he's chasing you and you run off home. But he doesn't . In fact, quite often I couldn't get him to back off until I was actually physically in my house with the door closed.

Extremely unclear puzzle solutions. The main reason I opted to use the walkthroughs instead of working my way through the game myself? Because without them, it would have been damn near impossible. There were so many times that I was preforming the solution to a problem and I was just like "...really?". Requiring the player to interact with one of hundreds of completely repetative and indistinguishable paintings, having to glitch a shoe through a box to switch a lever, making a specific space match a painting on the wall to open a box that was down the hall and outside...it was just kind of ridiculous. I personally wouldn't have even guessed the the umbrellas could be used as floatation devices until maybe several hours into the game, if ever at all. When you have to many objects that seem unqiue but are actually just more props to toss around, it gets kinda hard to distinguish what is actually useful and what isn't.

The Iffy

The final boss. ...okay, I have to actually admit that I had a fun time being teeny and launching nerf darts and bottle rockets at the Neighbor. Especially after all the pain of getting through Act 2. (He actually didn't bother me much in Act 3.) But like...what was it? His household was weighing on his back or whatever. The reminders of his kids were causing him pain. Okay, okay, cool....but like...there wasn't any better setting for it? There was no better way to pull it off? I was legitimately just running around and doing things just to inconvenience the tall man in front of me. I died so many times just trying to work out the toaster puzzle until I got all...like, 600 umbrellas. I don't know, it was just strange execution.

The Fear Room Powerups. I didn't know the fear rooms were necessary. I didn't know they gave you powerups. Had I not read the walkthroughs, I never would have figured it out. And even AFTER I beat them, I didn't work out that I had power ups until last minute. There was no acknowledgment that I had gained a new power, save for the sneakily worded achievements. However, I did appreciate them while I had them. They let me Macgyver my way around even more.

The seemingly unexplorable. There were doors upon doors that I wanted to get through. And doors upon doors that seemed to have no actual entrances. No secret methods. No special actions. They were just doors. Taunting me. Is it possible I missed something? Absolutely, I'd bet on it. But all I'm saying is I ran around that house a lot in all three levels, and there were some things that I was just never able to work out.

The Conclusion

Hello Neighbor is a game for the patient and the crafty. I enjoyed it. I would have enjoyed it more if it were more functional and made even a lick of sense gameplay wise. But while it isn't anywhere near the best game I've ever played, it isn't the worst either. Its playable enough if you're willing to work around its defects. I'd suggest it for a rainy day, or an especially quarentined week.

Thoughts:

It was interesting to see which pairs and couples my general audience was requesting. By far the two most popular requests where anything to deal with Kyoya (my OTP) and Mori. You wanted my two favorite boys to get some comfort and happy endings and I was happy to supply them. Now that I step back and look at them, I will give you little fun facts or interesting thoughts I had while writing each one (mostly because I think it is interesting how writers explain their process of writing or their opinions on their own writings). The list starts chronologically from first to last fic posted.

1. Bland Cereal & Pregnancy Brain (Mori x Haruhi)

I imagine that of all the hosts these two will have the closest thing to what Haruhi would deem a normal life. They will make time for each other and always try to check in on each other. If Haruhi wants normal life filled with a steady stream of love then Mori is her guy. I giggled my way through this prompt at Haruhi and her oblivious nature (my favorite quality about her). This prompt took two sittings to complete. The first to write it and second to edit. Overall one of the quicker ones I wrote in this batch.

2. Attorney First, Wife Second (Kyoya x Haruhi)

This fic is one of my favorites that I have written. It is also the first posted fic where stuff gets steamy. I was gasping and eeping the whole time writing their steamy elevator interactions. This story took 1 sitting to write, edit, and post.

3. Solemn Tears (Kyoya x Mori)

As stated in the original post this is the first-ever M/M fic I have written. IT WAS SO HARD. Not because it was M/M but because both characters don’t really ever let their guards down long enough for them to cry. Not only that, I really had to dig and analyze what would really push them to the point that they would cry. Have you ever seen two brick walls cry? Cause I sure haven’t! Their dynamic is interesting and I am glad that I got this prompt to stretch my writing skills. Multiple sittings required because I had no idea how I was going to write it.

4. Shrouded Kiss (Kyoya x Haruhi x Tamaki)

Oh, the angst! Out of all the fics posted this one felt the most OOC. My first thought when I received the prompt was, “Kyoya never does anything by accident.” Haruhi was a little OOC in my opinion but that’s because of how Kyoya proposed the idea of finding love. Do I believe what he says about only knowing once you have tried things with different people? No, but there is merit to say that each relationship and person you are with is going to feel different. Some people are just naturally passionate people while others are more subtle with their love. From what I recall this was a pretty easy write and edit.

5. Obliviously Pregnant (Kyoya x Haruhi)

Haruhi probably couldn’t even surprise Kyoya with a pregnancy even if she tried. She might not have married a doctor but when you marry into a family who is a leader in the medical business nothing will stay a secret for long. On top of that, I am sure that Haruhi is so focused on work that she would actually just convince herself that she is sick rather than being pregnant. Now reader, I know you are curious as to why I decided to bless them with twins. Well, you see…..plot device. That’s really it. Plus, after I asked Google about multiples and pregnancy I was plagued with diaper ads. Note to self, use incognito more often when asking questionable questions.

6. Salmon Side Effects (Tamaki x Haruhi)

This was the first “Free Space” prompt. And I was in the thick of writing and posting. By the time I got to this prompt, I was tired. Not long after I got this prompt I experienced a depressive episode and spent the week slowly crawling out of the pit. I just couldn’t bring myself to work on this fic. I knew I would have to write Tamaki super excited and all I could think about was trying to make it throughout the day without crying. But I got out of the pit and finished it. Multiple sittings needed for completion.

7. Unyielding Devotion (Mori x Haruhi)

I am not sure when it comes to other writers but I cannot read and write fic at the same time. And after binge writing the last few fics I needed a break. I needed to read some fic! One night I was scrolling through FF.Net and decided it was time to start working through my 70+ fics waiting to be read. Picked a fic and I was off to the races (Something Honorable This Way Comes by ilovemori9). It was sweet and wonderful and totally the opposite of a break-up prompt. I think with the break up he was trying to do right by her, wanting her to not be held back by what was required of him. When I first started brainstorming this prompt I was going to have Kyoya lurking in the shadows waiting to take Haruhi as his own but the story wrote itself and it wrote Kyoya out of the story. I think it is better that way.

8. Broken Banner (Mori x Haruhi)

TINY HAMMER! Running joke between @ohshcscenerios and myself. This was such a fun story to write! Once I started I just had to finish. I don’t normally lean towards cute and innocent so it was a nice change of pace. Mori is held in high regard but he is, after all, a high school 3rd year. And he has a soft spot for Haruhi. Also, did you know that Mori is 6’2” while Haruhi is 5’1”? How do you accidentally kiss someone who is a foot taller than you?? So part of the issue in creating this story was how to get their mouths close enough to bump lips. I think the outcome suited the prompt. This was a two sitting story.

9. Burning Intentions (All Characters)

The final prompt….this prompt I tell you what. I will be honest I loathed this prompt in the beginning. I was utterly at a loss as to how I was going to write this. I opened the doc, stared at the prompt and closed the doc multiple times over the span of a week. It was like that episode of Spongebob where he had to write an essay and he felt like he was doing so much work but all he did was the fancy-looking “The”. I almost gave up on it. I almost posted an apology instead of actually trying to write something. In a last-ditch effort, I pulled up Pinterest and searched the word ‘fire’. And then an idea hit me! I wrote part of it one night and finished it up the next day. This story quickly became a favorite because of the witty banter between the hosts. I was laughing at my own writing. I am now very proud of this story!

Final Thoughts & What’s Next?

Throughout the last 16 days, I have accomplished many things when it comes to writing! I went from only having posted 4 fics to now having 13 fics. Today (1/24/2020) on FF.Net Boundless Opportunities (Kyoya x Haruhi) reached 200+ views. On top of the 11,935 words I have posted I have also written an additional 9,124 words for other projects I am currently working on. That is a grand total of 21,059 words written from January 1-24! In my free time, I also finished The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins and am 13 chapters deep with The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. On top of everything else, I created a beta profile! I have done so much this month and I want to thank everyone for their support and kind words! They really do me so much to me!

January has been busy! So I am looking forward to celebrating Freedom February!! I am giving myself permission to do whatever I want in February. I still have 11 more paper books to finish as well as 100+ fanfiction stories waiting patiently waiting to be shown attention. Basically what I am saying is I want to spend more time doing other hobbies as well as work on some of my wips that I have been neglecting since I started this project.

Speaking of wips I will be spending February obviously working on my Kasanoda x Haruhi fic but also an idea that sprung up into my head this past week produced a very interesting idea for an AU bad boy fic with Hikaru x Haruhi that has some potential to become another multi-chapter story. Too soon to say if anything will come of it but I want to keep my options open!

TL;DR: January was crazy. Lots of writing. Background information for each fic posted from the bingo prompts. A list of January achievements. Don’t expect me to post anything prolific in February. Using my free time to explore hobbies other than writing. Diving headfirst into digital and paperback stories. Hopefully, make progress on my two main unposted projects. This book is what finally pushed me into reading adult romances. Yeah, I had read a couple before this one, but this is the book that made me fall in love with the genre. I know it’s been talked about by most everyone, but if you haven’t read it yet, this summer is the perfect time (especially with the movie in the works)!

Firstly, if you aren’t a fan of series, don’t worry. This is just a series of companion novels, so you don’t have to commit to them. But trust me when I say, after reading this, you will want to. I just love this book so much. These characters are just absolutely amazing and you will not regret picking this up!

JOSH AND HAZEL’S GUIDE TO NOT DATING BY CHRISTINA LAUREN

I have two Christina Lauren books on this list because I am addicted to their books. However, this one is by far my favorite of theirs. It’s a friends-to-lovers done so well, you won’t be able to put it down. I know I wasn’t able to.

You all knew I would have to put this book on here. It’s my obsession. The love of my life. I know this book is getting a lot of hype right now, but let me tell you, it deserves all of it. This book is really something special. Not only is it an adorable romance with enemies-to-lovers and plenty of wit, but it’s also a powerful read that you don’t want to miss.

THE UNHONEYMOONERS BY CHRISTINA LAUREN

While Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating may be my favorite Christina Lauren book, this one is pretty close. Enemies-to-lovers, fake datings, and basically every other classic trope everyone loves found their way into this extremely fun read.

It’s time to join Ikki’s fan club! Or, is it? Much like the protagonist, Ikkis eyes never really worked on me either, but he was doomed with me from the start. I loathe the pretty boy, girls flocking around him type. The first time i saw him, he reminded me of Caesar from Princess Debut, or Shingen from Ikemen Sengoku. But he actually turns out to be a pretty decent guy, and eventually I found myself blushing. I never pick these types in otome unless I’m trying to 100% a game, so he was a nice change of pace. Ikki’s charm is not in his *INTENSE RADIANT BEAUTY*, it’s in his reflection on it, and how it affects his life.

And there you have it! You’ve seen every side there is to Ikki. I’m curious to know how other people felt while playing through his route. His character left me a bit conflicted, and i stubbornly wanted to know what all the hype was surrounding him and kind of answered my own question in the end. It’s hard to wonder as the player if he really LIKES you, or if hes just into you because you're the only one whose not laying all over him begging to be his girlfriend. It’s just a game, i know, so OBVIOUSLYYYYY, he really does like our protagonist. But still! I felt that worry as if I was in her shoes. I guess that’s what makes him such a great character!

SnK Chapter 112 Major Character Ranking Poll Results & Analysis

Hey Everyone! The results are in for my special mid-volume poll for Chapter 112! I had more participation this time than in any other previous month with more than 500 responses, so thank you all!

I normally conduct this poll only at the end of volumes, but wanted to do a special mid-volume poll this time around due to the shocking nature of Chapter 112 - Ignorance. Eren, in particular, did/said some things that were... controversial, and I wanted to see how his ranking would be impacted. Perhaps not surprisingly, his ranking hardly suffered, and he held firmly onto his first place position. However, there were some interesting changes this time:

Levi took 2nd place from Reiner! This might be attributable to the increased focus on Levi (and his character/past) in 112. He ranked a whole average rank higher this time (one of only two characters to do so).

Mikasa ALMOST made it into the top 5 this time. It's no secret she's my favorite character, so it was a lot of fun rooting for her (and damn, I really wanted to be like SHE MADE THE TOP 5 THIS TIME GUYS). She had the largest jump from the last poll, moving from 10th to 6th. She was also almost twice as likely as last time to end up in people's top 3 characters! 111 and 112 were both amazing chapters for Mikasa, and probably two of my favorite chapters of all time for that reason.

I think we are beginning to see the rise of Gabi. She came in 15th this time, up from 18th. Her average rank improved by only .4 and she was just as likely to end up in the Top 3 as she was in the previous poll, but her likelihood to end up in the bottom 3 went down significantly (28%, down from 40%)

Armin took 3rd place this time, knocking Reiner down to 4th place. This rank increase is one of the things I expected to see (for obvious reasons. Armin might have been my MVP for 112 as a chapter)

Reiner.... fourth place... it's almost certainly the result of simply not being seen in so long. Still oof though ;_; The Warriors, in general, all took hits - Pieck, Porco, Bertholdt, and Annie all saw their average rank get a bit worse.

Historia dropped too. Hard. To be fair, the results of the 110 poll were probably much more heavily influenced by the anime, so it's understandable. She hasn't been around much in the manga, so it's hard to think of another reason for this.

Floch made his debut in my poll this month, though I wouldn't say he was very successful. He came in 2nd to last place, doing better than only Porco (for some reason ;_;).

Character Ranking Correlations

In previous months, I've looked at how specific characters' rankings seem to impact the rankings of others. I did this by looking at people who put a specific character in their top 3, and comparing that group’s rankings to the overall group. This time, I put together a correlation matrix so that we can see the bigger picture of how these characters’ rankings relate to each other. (Right click and open the chart in a new tab, unless you have crazy good vision i guess)

How to read this chart: Values range from –1 (perfect negative correlation) to +1 (perfect positive correlation). This being a ranking poll, there will be no perfect correlations. Instead, interpret the values in this chart such that the more negative a value, the more negatively correlated two characters are. The more positive a value, the stronger the positive correlation. Values close to zero have basically no correlation. (I’ve highlighted the strongest correlations at either end of the spectrum)

Eren and Zeke have the strongest positive correlation of any two characters, and by quite a bit. Zeke and Eren only have one other strong positive correlation each: Floch.

Pieck and Porco have the second highest positive correlation of any pair. Aww shipping intensifies

Levi has an equally strong positive correlation with both Armin and Mikasa. Armin and Mikasa also have an almost equally strong correlation to eachother.

The highest negative correlation was actually between Reiner and Connie, which was a surprise. Connie also negatively correlates with Zeke, but more so with Reiner. I’d have expected that to go the other way.

2nd place for the most negatively correlated pair is a tie between Eren/Ymir and Levi/Porco.

Pokemon Starters

I definitely included this question for shits and giggles. I didn't really expect to find anything too interesting, but there are some cool things I noticed:

Armin!!! His overall average rank is 7.3, but amongst people who selected Bulbasaur and Pikachu, Armin performed significantly better. For perspective, Bulbasaur enthusiasts gave Armin an average rank of 5.8(coming in first place), which is better even than Eren performed in the overall rankings. Armin and Bulbasaur have the closest correlation of any character/pokemon combination. Armin performed almost as well with those who selected Pikachu, with an average rank of 6 and an overall rank of 2.

Mikasa performs best amongst people who selected Pikachu, with an average rank of 6.4 - which is a significant improvement from her overall average ranking of 8.1.

I kinda saw this coming when I added the option to select "No. Pokemon are slaves and FrEeDoM is all I care about" - but jeez. Amongst people who selected this, Eren has an average ranking of 3.8. I'm not sure I've ever seen a demographic that gives a character such an amazing ranking. lol. Found the Jaegerists! This is also the only pokemon group that put Floch higher than the overall group.

Squirtle is kinda a cool case, because people who chose this starter also tend to rank Reiner and Bertholdt better than the overall group. They both performed more than one whole average rank better here.

People who selected Eevee also tend to like Sasha and Jean a bit more, ranking them 1.5 and 1 whole average rank better than the overall group, respectively. People who selected Eevee also ranked both Jaeger brothers worse by more than 1.5 average ranks. Floch is usually with the Jaeger bros in these kinds of situations, so I was kinda interested to see that his hit wasn't nearly as bad here (only .5 average ranks worse).

This group was also the only group that did not rank Porco last. This little fact delights me.

Coffee vs. Tea

Another just-for-fun question, with a few interesting things worth pointing out:

When it comes to personal preference, tea wins with 36% of respondents having a preference for it.

People with a preference for coffee gave Zeke a ranking that was 1.4 average ranks higher than those who prefer tea. Floch follows a similar pattern, ranking 1 average rank higher.

People who prefer tea ranked both Sasha and Annie 1.2 average ranks higher than those who prefer coffee.

Notes

The purpose of my Major Character Ranking Poll is to follow the popularity of all major characters over time, not to rank only the characters that appeared in a certain volume or chapter. For this reason, the list of characters should remain mostly the same across polls - even if a character has been dead for more than 30 chapters.

Michael After Midnight: Pontoffel Pock, Where Are You?

So here’s a neat little bit of trivia: back in the 80s, my grandmother actually had her own video store. Obviously a little indie video store wasn’t gonna survive competition from something like Blockbuster or all the other options that began popping up around the time, so she ended up closing it, and my parents ended up with a lot of the VHS tapes, which of course I ended up watching. A lot of my favorite films and movies I’m really nostalgic for came from those VHS tapes, such as Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer, InHumanoids: The Movie, and Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend - all great candidates for reviews. Frankly, not sure why I haven’t reviewed InHumanoids already… but I digress. I bring this all up because there is one specific VHS I want to talk about.

But first, let’s talk about Dr. Seuss.

Dr. Seuss, as you may know, is one of the greatest children’s authors of all time. The guy churned out classic after classic, creating timeless works featuring wondrous landscapes, fantastical locales, and colorful characters like the Lorax, the Grinch, and the Cat in the Hat. He’s also known for having extremely crappy films based off of his books, but that wasn’t always the case; back in the day, Seuss worked on animated specials based on his stuff, working with everyone from Chuck Jones to Ralph Bakshi. Dr. Seuss was truly a creative genius whose works have stood the test of time.

[Except this one]

Tonight’s work is one that is actually not based on any sort of preexisting book, and was one of those bizarre VHS tapes I watched over and over as a child. And tonight’s work is one that I’m not going to review in the traditional sense; oh no, this one is getting something special. Pontoffel Pock, Where Are You? is akin to Freddie as F.R.0.7. in my mind as something it is far more fun to just explain than to truly dissect, so instead of a true review, I am going to do a sort of recap of the plot before giving you a verdict on whether this insane special is worth your time.

So, let’s get right into this:

Pontoffel Pock, our titular hero, has a job at a pickle factory, and he has the simplest job you could possibly imagine: he pushes the lever “Pushum” and pulls on the chain “Pullum” and the pickles go into the jar (as the song helpfully informs us. Oh yeah, this is a musical. That’s somewhat important). So with such a simple job, it would be pretty inconceivable to fuck it up, right? Well, that’s because you are most likely not a colossal failure on the level of Pontoffel Pock, who SOMEHOW confuses the Pushum and Pullum and ends up destroying the entire factory, which leads to him getting fired. Did I mention this was his first day and immediately before fucking up he was explained what his job was?

[You had ONE fucking job, Pontoffel Pock]

Dejected and alone, Pock goes home and plays basketball on his roof as an homage to Clerks. Please ignore that this animation came out nearly two decades before Clerks. I would like to take a moment to point out that Pock’s house is exactly as weird and impractical a homestead as any you might see in a Seuss work - and the fact it’s a dilapidated mess because Pock can’t hold down a job only makes it even more odd. In his misery and sorrow, Pock wishes he could get away from it all… and he gets his chance, because the Amalgamated Do-Gooding Fairies come down from the heavens and grant him a magical flying piano that will take him anywhere in the world if he plays the proper notes (C, C, C, D, D#, E, for those wondering).

Gifted with this incredible magical gift, and with the entire world at his disposal, Pontoffel Pock does what any normal human being would do: he shows off and acts like a douchebag. Teleporting to Groogen, a sort of German-Switzerland mashup country, Pock freaks the locals out with his flying piano, and gets shot down by their paint cannon known as the Goomy Gun, because nothing in a Dr. Seuss work can have a normal name. Pock returns home, and naturally McGillicuddy, the head fairy, is pissed as fuck at Pock for being a douchey show-off and nearly wrecking the piano right off the bat.

Thankfully, McGillicuddy is a kind and merciful fairy, a bit more Seelie than Unseelie. He gives Pock one more chance, so the question now becomes: How can Pock fuck this up? Well let’s find out as he travels to Casbahmopolis, the Seuss version of the Middle East. Considering what a colossal moron Pock is, it should surprise absolutely no one that he falls in love with the first scantily clad belly dancer woman he sees; that girl is Neefa Feefa, who contrary to the previous sentence is NOT a belly dancer, but rather an… eyeball dancer. No, she doesn’t dance on eyeballs, she’s just dressed in an outfit that covers everything but her eyes. It’s kind of an amusing parody of belly dancers.

Lucky for Pock, Neefa Feefa is the only woman in the world as stupid as him, and she immediately falls for him as well. Unfortunately, she’s stuck fucking dancing for the king, a job she hates, and she wishes she could get away from it all. To her credit, she actually has a real, genuine reason to want to get out of her current position, unlike Pontoffel “First World Problems” Pock. Pock seems to realize this, and in one of his exceedingly rare moments of badassery, singlehandedly infiltrates the palace of the king to save this girl he barely knows. Sure, it’s stupid and cliche, but so far Pock has been nothing but be a showboating weenie; here he goes Solid Snaking his way through a palace full of armed guards to save a woman, that takes some pretty big balls.

Of course, this is Pontoffel Pock we’re talking about; he manages to fuck things up somehow. The guards manage to bust the Homing Pigeon Switch of his piano, which would allow him to zap right back to the dump he calls a house, and when he tries to go somewhere else Neefa Feefa slips into the clutches of the guards and the piano goes on the fritz, leading Pock to desperately try any keys he can in an attempt to get back. At this time, the fairies are getting worried, seeing as they haven’t heard from Pock in ages, and so set out on a massive manhunt to find him, singing “Pontoffel Pock, Where the Fuck Heck Are You?” This is the part where our hero finally triumphs. Pock suddenly out of the blue remembers the proper switch and zaps back to save his imprisoned beloved, so of course… he crashes the piano into the tower.

Neefa Feefa sends out a prayer, and thankfully it is heard by the fairies, who descend from the heavens and save everyone’s ass. Pontoffel Pock’s quest to get some poon seemingly impresses the boss at the pickle factory, because not only is Pock rehired, but Neefa Feefa gets hired there too, and apparently the dress codes are extremely lax there as she gets to wear her eyeball dancer outfit to work. Pock manages to get away scot free despite fucking everything up and manages to get a hot girl and a stable job, so I guess the moral of the story is “Going to great lengths to get pussy will make up for all of your constant fuckups.”

So that was Pontoffel Pock, Where Are You? and I think it goes without saying this is one weird, quirky, and unique animated story. It’s not very long and is a bit corny and cliche, and the shortness doesn’t do much favors to the story as it leads to things feeling a bit rushed, but quite frankly it all adds to the silly, Seussy charm. The animation, the designs, and just all the wacky creativity on display here is Seuss at his best, and frankly it’s hard to hate a story of a man who fucks up his pickle factory job and gets a magical flying piano from fairies so that he can score with a belly dancer.

I really wish this was more well-known than it is. God knows this deserves it. It’s just so charmingly weird. If you like weird and silly animated things or the work of Dr. Seuss, this is something to check out, though if you’re a huge fan of the latter you may already know this. I don’t think this is really something that deserves to be held up alongside the greats like The Grinch or The Lorax, but I think it deserves an honorable 3rd place alongside those two; this is an underrated obscure gem if there ever was one.

“As you can see,” Medical examiner, Amanda Baker, pointed to the horrific burns on the deceased body, the eager M.E’s to be were watching as she determined this corpses cause of death “he was burned, yes. But that’s not the cause of death. I found traces of a deadly amount of arsenic in his liver, a case like this is one the detectives would love.” She was all suited up so she wasn’t worried about the disease-ridden body she was displaying. With the soft click of your shoes, you peeked into the room to see your colleague giving her students raw training with the less than appealing deceased.

You swallowed before entering the room, being that you’ve dealt with graphic crime scenes many times before, this shouldn’t phase you. “Excuse me, do you have a minute?”

“Sure, we were just finishing up. Class, feel free to take notes on the board.” She dismissed the students and went to the sink to wash up and discard the mask.

"What’s up?”

"There's a case that the corporation has been really hush-hush about and I was wondering if you knew anything about it.” You two walked side by side through the spacious hall on the way to her office.

“I wouldn’t know Y/L/N, I haven’t been out in the field for a while. I’ve been teaching more than anything these days.” She pulled off her coat with an exhausted sigh, idly she took her multiple hairpins out of her ear-length hair.

You sat in one of her designated relaxation chairs for when she had to work late and you unbuttoned your uncomfortable collar shirt a bit. “Aw...”

“Why are you trying to snoop on someone else's case anyway? You’ve got assignments almost every week.” Baker knew your tenacity, you always looked for the case that would put you on the map.

“Yeah, but those are mostly local cases about break-ins and it’s been slow lately...” You exhaled.

“You should be glad, that means fewer people are getting murdered, less body for me to examine.” She laughed, skimming through her files to make sure she has her to-do list aligned for the next workday.

“I don’t only do murders, sometimes I do missing person cases...I don’t know, I guess I’m feeling like a private in an army full of generals.” You confessed. “Everyone on the 3rd floor are snobs and take all the good cases.”

Not like you’d really know what went on up there.

“What’s so special about the 3rd floor? We go up there all the time for briefing sessions and it seems pretty normal to me.” She knew that what went on up there was ‘Top Secret’ and people like you, weren’t qualified enough. You thought that was preposterous, not qualified enough? That’s B.S. You knew the reason behind not being allowed in the cases, your supervisor was a butthole and that was the only sensible reason.

“You know they’re lying to us, that's what corporations like this do, they lie to everyone except the inside man. I didn’t go to school to be a reporter but that’s what they have me do!” You got up and buttoned your blouse. “I signed up for this job to be out in the field, with the big league. Not behind a desk, in an uncomfortable chair and conducting research on crime scenes that have already been picked over. I’m a forensic scientist, not Lois Lane.”

“Take it easy, y/n, you’ll get your big break, I’m sure of it.” She put on her jacket, grabbed her bag and keys and began to walk out to the lobby. “Just hang in there, goodnight.” She bid you farewell.

“I’ll see you tomorrow Amanda, goodnight.” You waved goodbye and walked to the elevator with a plan in mind.

You pressed the dingy arrow button and waited. Most people were headed home since it was around 7 p.m and people had families to get to. Ding. The elevator opened and quickly got in and started pushing the close button in case someone was trying to catch it, you didn’t feel like awkward silence right now. When you stopped at your intended destination you saw that some of your co-workers were still here but just a few. You turned to your right and began walking towards your little office. Just as you were about to enter the room, you heard hushed whispering coming from the office across from yours—of course, you had to eavesdrop a little. Since it was fairly vacant, you got on your hands and knees, put your ear to the side of the door and listened.

“I can’t take it anymore.” You heard a low voice say through presumably clenched teeth.

“The hours are ridiculous, I wasn’t trained for work like that and I don’t work in the field! I won’t do it. Why don’t you ask someone else?”

That was Amir Perez doing all that whining...

“Because you’re my nephew and I want you to succeed. It’s not every day that we let Unit 2 people in on cases like this.”

You knew he wasn’t here because of his ‘fine set of qualifications’, he’s here because his uncle AKA your boss, is doing the family a favor. It was a bit of an understatement to say that you’re pissed. He’s been giving that guy all the good cases and he doesn’t even want them!

“I'm sorry, but I’m going home.” He suddenly slung the door open and you stood up in a frenzy to get to your office without being seen, not that they were paying any attention to you.

“Amir, wait!” You watched your boss scramble to follow the unmotivated 21-year-old take the stairs down but when he realized he wasn’t stopping he cursed.

“Damn it, that lazy kid.” He began to massage his temples, what was he going to do? He told the team he’d get someone from this unit, his first pick just walked out the meeting is in 5 minutes. Meanwhile, you stood in your doorway as if to see if he was going out or not.

“You.” You looked wide-eyed when he pointed directly at you with a hesitant expression, this is my only option.

“Me?” You wanted to make sure he was talking to you.

“Come with me.”

He started walking and you didn’t hesitate to follow him, this might be what you’ve been waiting for since you started this job. You looked around to see where he was taking you and he went opened the door to a flight of stairs that you’ve never even seen before. He went up to a large white door and pressed his hand to a tablet on the wall. When you saw that you were about to unload a million questions. But when that door opened, your heart fell straight into your stomach.

“Woah...” You knew the facility was huge but this was massive. It looked like a completely different place in here. There was state of the art computers, file rooms that were being skimmed through by the file organizers, there was even a large vault all the way across the room that you couldn’t even imagine what was in it. You looked around and saw that every office had a stately looking name on it, the more experienced detectives must work up here.

“Sir, what is this place?” You followed him around like a kid in the candy store, eager to find something to get into.

“This is Unit 5, it is not to be disclosed to anyone under Unit 5 clearance, you’re the exception.” He dreaded saying that. “I brought you here because you are now taking Amir’s position in this case.”

You couldn’t believe it. “Seriously?” You nearly squealed with excitement. “I get to work up here with-”

“Don’t get too excited kid.” He cut you off.

“Hey,” He went up to some guy working at a desk, “Get her a badge with all Unit clearance.” He left you standing alone after the command and the guy gave him a speedy ‘yes sir.’

“Okay, follow me to that room over there.” The guy got up from behind his computer and followed you to the room. “Stand in front of that background and in five seconds it will automatically take the photo.” He adjusted his glasses and waited for you.

“Okay.” You scurried over to stand in front of the wall and in seconds the picture was taken with a flash.

“Alrighty then, I’ll get this laminated and you just wait at my desk.” You went to his desk and waited for maybe a minute or so and he was back with two badges; one being a card and the other being a lanyard.

“Here you go, Miss.” He handed them to you and you stared at them in awe, this is the moment you’ve been waiting for...

“Thank you.” You put one around your neck and the other in your pocket with an uneasy exhale you went to find your boss. And on your quest to find him you saw a room with a bunch of pictures and evidence and you smiled as if it fed your inner investigator.

“Gather around everyone.” He spoke loudly and people scattered like ants to the middle of the room. You didn’t know where to stand or who to stand with so you tried to stand next to him but got booted out of the way—you settled for the far right of the circle of people you can’t say you’ve seen before.

“As you all may know, we have a sensitive case that needs the assistance of a Unit 2 member.” He made eye contact with you. “This is Y/F/N, she’ll be working with Min and Kim on this assignment.”

“Hello...” You gave a tight-lipped grin to those around you but you looked around for the two he called Min and Kim but they were nowhere to be seen.

“As for everyone else, resume what you were doing and have a good night.” He left through the main exit and you stood there excited but slightly lost. You inhaled and exhaled—stay confident, introduce yourself and do what you do best—that’s what your parents would say. You were still a bit confused about who to talk to but at this point, you were just happy to be here.

Some random guy with prominent dimples and a soft face came out of nowhere and extended his hand, “Kim Namjoon.” He smiled. “Nice to meet you, partner.” You returned his gesture with a firm handshake and boy, was he tall and handsome—you checked off your mental career-list, sweet coworker—check.

“Nice to meet you too.” You smiled. “I hope you don’t mind but, could you fill me in on what all of this is? I’ve never seen this place before and to be honest, I don’t know what my job is in all of this.”

“Unit 5 is the highest level in the corporation, we deal with everything from serial killers to speculated alien abduction, you name it, we’ve done it. For our case, we don’t have all the details yet, but we do know it was across town and we’ll be sent out there bright and early tomorrow morning.” He explained as you followed him to his office, he was wrapping up for the day. “The location is in this file, don’t lose it.” He opened his drawer and handed you the beige folder.

“Alright, sounds good.” You nodded in agreement. “By the way, where is um- Min?”

“Min Yoongi? He left earlier than normal today, he’ll be at the site in the morning.” He pulled on his jacket and left with a smile. “See you tomorrow.”

“See you.” You waved goodbye as your other hand loosely held the folder. You watched as he walked out of that door and you wanted to scream in excitement, but you kept your cool. There were still some people working on their important cases and some of them glanced up at you curiously—that was your cue to go. Even though he said there wasn’t much on the case, you knew he was being secretive about some of it. So, like the skilled professional you are, you decide to go get a little more information. When you looked around, you saw the file room was unoccupied, so you made your way into the dimly lit room. You opened up the file and saw there was no identified suspect yet, the case explicitly stated that visiting the site was required to finish the case file. It read file 19382, not an actual name, that was test file title so it wasn’t that relevant. He gave you an unofficial file.

“Of course.” You had a feeling that he was a bit too welcoming. Besides that, you knew how to find an undocumented file. You dug through the drawer that was basically empty, the file in the very front was the most recent. To find the one you’re looking for, you just needed to look a few files from it.

“Bingo.” You made sure no one was watching you before pulling it out to look it over, it was a thin file. It read, Woman reports erratic banging on her door in the middle of the night. She fears she’s being watched. Police have inspected the area and waited to see if the culprit would reveal themselves but that was unsuccessful.

“Interesting...” You read further, The next day, the woman was sent to the hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning caused by an unknown source. In critical condition. You heard shuffling outside the door so you took that as a sign to beat it. You snapped a quick photo of the file and stuck it back in its rightful home.

The fire has been ignited in you and this case will consume your life for as long as it takes to solve it.

You heard other shouting and yelling you were able to pick out a few words like kill and other things you were not appreciative of.

“I guess I still have a little werewolf strength myself.” His eyes glowed blue unlike Brett’s they had a cold color.

“Hey Doc I don’t think he’s breathing.”

3rd person P/O/V

“Do you hear that?” Stiles put his ear near Brett to listen to what he was muttering.

“Three things cannot long be hidden. The sun, the moon, the truth.” Deaton piped up after he listened for a few moments.

“Satomi.” Derek and Peter said looking at each other.

Peter soon after left probably because he didn’t really care all that much.

“Okay doc what about her? She’s not looking to good.” Stiles pointed at the girl who had collapsed next to Brett on the floor.

Stiles stopped in a few seconds to look at the bizarre manifestation on the table. Derek and Deaton were helping Brett into a back room so he could rest after the Wolfbane.

“Derek, Deaton I think you should come look at this.” They both walked in as Stiles asked to see the girl there, with a tail. Not an animal tail but a mermaid tail.

“Well that’s new even for me.” Derek piped up from beside Deaton.

“I guess hospital is not an option.” The girl started to move

You woke up on a cold metal table pushing yourself up on your elbows. Looking down you could see your tail hanging off the edge of the table and beyond it three curious sets of eyes.

“Where am I? Where’s Brett?” You were ready to try and fight your way out if you had to.

“Okay calm down, we’re here to help.”

“How is doing this helpful?” You gestured towards your tail. You reached a hand out and used your powers to dry off.

“Where is Brett?” You lowered your voice in an attempt to sound slightly more intimidating.

“Brett’s in the other room recovering.”

“Look we only know about Brett because of the deadpool.” The one with the broad shoulders and dark hair walked towards you. “My name is Derek. I’m a werewolf too. I was born a werewolf.”

“Like Brett,” you muttered under your breath. “And you’re sure he’s safe here?”

“Yes he will be. We need to make sure you’re okay you hit your head pretty bad and lost a lot of blood.”

“Let me see Brett first.”

“I never asked what is your name?”

“I’m Y/N,” You looked over to the other side of the room where Derek and Stiles were having a very animated conversation.

“Some very special abilities you have there. In all my years of interacting with the supernatural I have never meet a mermaid.”

“We’re not as rare as you might imagine. Most of us live in the sea, well born mermaids that is. I ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time and this happened.”

“That’s very unusual.” Derek walked over to you with his arms crossed over his chest.

“We need to find the rest of Brett’s pack to worn them.”

“I’m sorry I don’t know much actually. I actually just transferred to Devenford a few days ago. I found out about Brett on accident I don’t know much other than he called his Alpha Satomi.”

“Alright I’ll figure something out if he doesn’t wake up soon.”

“Can someone drive me back to the place the game was my car is there.” You looked around for your phone. “Has anyone seen my phone? It was in my purse.”

“You didn’t have a purse on you when we found you passed out in the locker room.”

You quickly dialed her number and she picked up immediately.

“Brett thank god. What happened? Where are you? Wheres Y/N? Are you alright?”

“Lori calm down it’s me I am with Brett.” You heard her let out a sigh of relief.

“Are you still at the other school?”

“Well Brett was my ride so yeah and I have your purse you left it in the bleachers.”

“Okay I will meet you there in a few minutes.” You hung up and put Brett’s phone back in his bag. You walked past the rest of the guys to the room where Brett was asleep.

“Alright who is bringing me back to my car my friend is waiting for me.” For some reason you had the urge to protect Lori with your life. With that it included her secret.

“What are you? Actually better question who are you?” You turned so you were facing him as he drove, slightly erratically, towards the high school.

“My name is Stiles,” He looked over at you as you gave him a stern look. “I’m human.”

“You do know i’m supposed to kill any land people who find out about me right?”

“Land people?”

“You live on land so thus you are a land person. Why should I trust you?”

“For one I helped save you and your dickhead of a boyfriend's life from an assassin tonight.” You started laughing and put your hands to your face to try and muffle the sound.

“You think me and Brett are dating? You did hear the part when I said I just transferred here a few days ago correct?”

“Then why did you freak out so much when you were both injured huh? You practically dragged your half conscious body to his before passing out on the floor, partly on top of him I might add.”

“Um…” You didn’t want to mention Lori because then she could be at risk as well but you definitely didn’t want the to think you would date Brett, especially because he was cute. Annoying and a bit hyperactive but he was definitely cute. “I was worried he’s one of my only friends here, can’t make a whole lot of friends when about half your life is keeping a secret.” He pulled up into the parking lot next to your car, the only car left at this hour. You pushed open the creaky metal doors as you saw Lori rushing towards you. You looked up at her and kinda signaled for her to stay hidden in the shadows for now and she seemed to understand.

He sat in the car almost waiting for you to leave but Lori had your keys. You walked over to the gas cap and pulled out your spare so you could unlock the doors.

You got inside and he waved at you before pulling out of the lot. Lori was in the passenger seat in an instant.
