I finally started doing art again this year
This is my third attempt to draw a female body, this one being my body. My newer plus size body I have only got since going on psychiatric meds and haven't been able to shed despite any exercise. Need to eat for energy and mental health now and not for weight loss. I was underweight before and living off copious amounts of coffee and almonds, not good. And this is the body i now have in this new chapter of my life since 2017 as a result of being schizospec + medicated. And that's ok. Me and my body have made it through one of the hardest experiences someone can be unlucky enough to go through and made it through all the subsequent and ongoing bonus health issues that came in the aftermath of psychosis
Hooraaay! Gonna tag this schizo art etc because it is hard af to get anything meaningful done with this illness (extreme fatigue setting in for the day currently since meds breakfast) so it is an extraordinary achievement to fight tooth and nail back to enough relative sanity to get back into the thing you are probably most passionate about in this world (other than love/people) that you became so scared of in your delusions that you damaged some of your work. (There was one high profile schizophrenic female artist I read about who also did the same thing - well actually she destroyed ALL of her work, sadly - 😭 in psychosis so I think it might actually be quite common-the destroying of one's art)
Let alone fight the sneaking fear that you have lost all your artistic talent/gifts and aren't up to the task of even the simplest artistic endeavour.
Despite all that and being so effing exhausted most of the time, this is schizo art. It's not all eyes and scary things. It is good to express that side of things, but it's become too stereotyped like that that that's all schizo art is, but it's us fighting all odds to produce any artwork of whatever medium
Question, tho (if you read this far): the left arm/hand (the viewer's right) I drew simply from my brain instead of the selfie phone hand and I feel like it's too long in relation to the other arm - but I did a quick measurement using my pencil and finger and they seemed to be the same length from elbow to wrist/start of hand). Sp the question is basically is the left arm too long lol?

I did this painting some years ago. Was reminded of it recently because the buyer sent me a picture of its new home. Hope this doesn’t dox me. I covered my signature just in case.

This painting I made represents growth
The bottom is the past - struggles with addiction as well as Schizoaffective disorder
The center is the present - my life is chaos but beautiful
The top is the future - hope as it grows out

This Van Gogh painting was created right after his first psychotic episode and I understand this painting more than any other piece of art. The distrust and fear in his eyes is one only understood by those with psychosis. To see your world crumble around you and become something new and terrifying is the greatest fear I have ever known. He looks almost scared of himself, seeing a new person in himself that he hasn’t seen before. The look in his eyes makes me think of how I look at others, unable to trust those I once could, becoming fearful of my own friends and family. His pain is so visible here and it really resonates with me.
