✩࿐midnight baking with rory gilmore (headcanons)
warnings: food mentions
though it was way too late to be giggling like you are, you and rory both know lorelai wouldn't really care
not when you'd have a whole batch of baked goods to present as an apology, anyway
it was around eleven pm when rory had the genius suggestion that you two should bake, in order to satiate both of your sweet cravings
how could you say no to a grin as pretty as hers?
the consequences of her idea?
a slightly messy kitchen and even messier hands and flour stained clothes.
rory's hair was pulled back into a loose ponytail, and you moved to push her bangs out of her face now and then
after much discussion, the two of you had settled on cookies, something fairly simple that would be impossible to mess up
whilst rory measured out the ingredients, you settled for passing her each ingredient she'd need
you worked comfortably as a pair, wordlessly following the recipe and taking over different roles
as you worked to mix the ingredients together to form a dough that you could actually work with, rory disappeared into her room, returning with her cd player tucked under her arm
"rory, it's midnight!" "i'll turn it down, i swear!"
you shape the cookies to the soundtrack of one of rory's pj harvey cds, playfully singing to one another as you go
when you took a second to admire her, your heart skipped a beat
the whole scene was so domestic
rory in her pyjamas, her ponytail barely even holding her hair back from her face, baking with flushed cheeks and a content smile
she pulled you out of your trance by attempting to wipe some dough on your cheek
thanks to the consistency, instead of smearing like she had intended, it just fell to the ground as a smattering of crumbs
you laughed at her efforts, protesting with a soft 'hey!' that both of you knew held no malice
when the cookies were in the oven, you took the chance to just enjoy each other's company
talk, dance, press some soft kisses to each other's skin
sleep was beginning to take its hold when the cookies had finally finished cooking.
rory began to move your creations from the baking tray to a large plate, leaving two aside for you to enjoy right away.
still warm cookies in hand, you and rory retreated to the living room sofa, sleepily eating and curling in to each other
lorelai wasn't incredibly pleased with the mountain of washing up she discovered upon waking, but the offering of cookies definitely took her mind off of it.

♡︎my baby’s day♡︎
Pairing(s): Jess Mariano x gn!reader, Luke Danes x gn!reader, Rory Gilmore x Jess Mariano, Lorelai Gilmore x Jess Mariano
Summary: Traveling to see your boyfriend in the small town of stars hallow for his special day the towns people couldn’t believe there were two of you —flufftober; day 2–
Word count: 2.3k+
Warning(s): PDA, Fluff, Pet names, Taylor, and like two swear word —aren’t you proud 😊🔪—
A/n: —GIF isn’t mine— Jess is literally my baby Dean Sucks :/
Tumblr media
The crisp air hit your face while you stepped off the steps of the metro bus as the burnt orange leaves crunched under your feet with a book bag on your back and a duffel bag in your hand you hadn’t had the best ride to the small town the people were… clingy
You had told three people to piss off and five others to watch where they were stepping your New York accent thick and the towns people found your insults ten times more insulting because you cursed heavy and they could barely pick up what you were saying
You decided to take a cab standing on the curb of the street with your hand up in the air until the yellow street car pulled up in front of you before taking the book bag off your back you slid Into the car your hands deep in the pocket of you leather jacket
“Uhh, Luke’s diner or William’s hardware which ever it is” You spoke to the taxi driver who nodded his head with a bright smile on his face as he tapped his fingers against the steering will and began to hum while you couldn’t help but roll your eyes you began to stare out the window watching the scenery pass by before putting the sunglasses that rested on your forehead over your eyes
It wasn’t long before you arrived at what you assumed to be the towns square you looked at the meter in front of you the read $13.50 and you tossed 15 Dollars onto the man’s arm rest before grabbing your bags and letting yourself out the car as you scoped out your surroundings
As you walked across the street you could feel peoples eyes on you and it couldn’t help but irk your nerve’s slightly in New York you have your good chunk of people but for the most part everyone minded their business and went on with their day it were a school of fish you crossed the street together and then left the pod here you already felt cramped like you were in a can of sardines but you wouldn’t let anything ruin your mood for your baby’s day so you let it slide
“Hey Jess, how you doing today?” Lorelai greeted with a small smile as the teen refilled her coffee mug standing over her table
“Well I’m not bleeding or anything so you know” He responded with a shrug moving to Rory’s side of the table repeating his actions not noticing how the girl looked up at him with dreamy eyes tucking a strand of hair behind her ear before averting her attention away from the boy was the bell ringing in the pretty quiet diner at the time in day
There you stood pushing your sun glasses back on your forehead as you looked around the small diner and if it weren’t for Luke the coffee pot that occupied Jess’s hand would’ve shattered on the floor as he charged toward you full speed picking you up and spinning in a circle while you laughed lightly before he sat you down bringing your face closer to his before your lips smashed together pouring your yearning feelings into each other disguised by a kiss
“What the hell are you doing here?” Jess questioned and couldn’t bother to cover up the bright smile on his face while you chuckled at his anticipation
“I couldn’t miss my baby’s special day could I?” You smirked noticing the small audience you both had before giving them a over exaggerated wave before the towns people quickly looked away engaging in their previous activities
“I come bearing gifts” You stated reaching into your bag passing your boyfriend a black gift bag with dark red tissue paper sticking out of it and you made your way over to the table that Luke stood at handing the man a box that had decent wrapping paper around it with a small bow on its top you stood back watching both of the boys open their gifts Luke being a little more hesitant in opening his own Soon enough Luke had unwrapped the box completely looking at it in shock as his eyes switched from you back to the box
“I don’t know who you are but you are heaven sent you understand” Luke pointed a finger at you running behind the counter dramatically swiping his arm against it’s surface knocking his old toaster to the floor with a loud crash opening the box carefully as he revealed a new toaster that seemingly shined in the light
You chuckled softly before walking towards Jess who lied his gifts across the cleanest part of the counter he came across you had got him about three band T-shirts, an iowa slipknot album, a Barnes a noble gift card, and another copy of Pride of prejudice because his was water damaged and when he told you over the phone that seemed like the icing on the cake of his bad day
Jess wouldn’t have cared if it was just some old copy of the book but you both had went on a date around the city when he was back at home you had walked around the park, went to a pizza cart for lunch, picked out some new records, and then you both went to your favorite Barnes and Noble and picked up the same copy’s of book which you both agreed to pride and prejudice you had took both books home and annotated them for each other to exchange the next day
So when Jess was already having a particularly bad day and tried to lift up his mood with the mix of funny, sweet, and the amusing notes of you raging at a character or the cute little doodles You littered some pages with you could imagine his reaction when his uncle had begged him to help with rush and when he came back to read his book to find one of waiters had spilled coffee all over the paperback
So to see his face light up like a kid on Christmas or a puppy meeting’s it’s new family as he flipped through the pages to see highlighted phrases, small words written in black ink and your hand writing in the margin along the white space, and your doodles scattering different pages what caught his eye most was one of his favorite parts of the book you had wrote his and your initial with a big dark red heart around it
“I love you” Jess had sat his book down before bringing you into another embrace kissing your hairline while for the first time in six months without him you smiled
“I love you more baby” You sighed softly breathing in his his scent of coffee, old books and pine wood laying your head on his shoulder you could at least see half of the towns people peering into the windows blinds
“Are they always like that” You blatantly pointed out to your boyfriend who followed your eyes to at least 30 people staring back at him as he signed heavily
“Would you believe me if I said yes” Jess responded before the both of your attention landed on the ringing bell stormed in a angry Taylor while Jess tried to figure out what the man could be mad about now and as he felt the weight of your head on his shoulder he wondered if you had caused in any havoc
“Taylor what do you want from me” Luke questioned the man not taking his eyes away from toasted he had been setting up and admiring for the last ten minutes
“Well Luke I have you know that you have a great percentage of PDA going on in your store and it is distracting my customers” The man said matter of factly pointed a strong finger at the two of which you barely raised your eyebrows at
“Listen it’s not anyone’s fault your customers are nosey the kids are in love something I’m sure you know all about” Luke sarcastically stated before walking to the back as Taylor called out for him You and Jess both watched in amusement as the man tightened his light tan cardigan before giving you the most disgusted look he could muster before leaving with another ring of the bell
“You wanna get out of here? I’ll show you around town” Jess questioned muttering into your ear as you nodded your head with small sigh that quickly turned into a yawned
“I have to drop my bags of at the inn but after that I’m all yours for the day” You responded reaching to pick up your bags bit before you could grace your fingers over the handle Jess beat you to it
“How about we cuddle, get some takeout, and take a nap instead.. Then I’ll show you around and we can do whatever you want” Jess offered he hadn’t missed you small yawn and Connecticut from New York on the metro was at least four hours and it was early noon so he couldn’t imagine of what ungodly hour you woke up in the morning to be there
“Are you sure Bambi?” You question as you tried to stiffen another yawn while Jess could help but feel heat rush to his face as he tried to brush it away with a chuckle ever since you had found out Jess’s favorite movie was Bambi until he was twelve you hadn’t let him live it down and it became a pet name for your boyfriend In your dictionary
Luke Danes has seen a lot of things in life but his nephew blushing to the bone was a first and as he watched wide eye his mouth slightly agape before Lorelai slightly pushed it back closed with the pad of her finger tips
“Hey Luke we’re heading out”Jess called to his uncle who could just give him a nod and slight wave before he left while Luke continued staring at the spot in the diner where he saw his nephew who wore gory band shirts and has never seen smile unless he was on the phone running up his bill blushed
Like didn’t know who you were but god was he starting to like you
༄༄༄
You were all checked in and Jess sat your luggage in corner of the room before flopping down on the mattress while you chuckled softly sitting the Chinese take out down onto the wooden desk before taking each steaming box and container of food out the plastic ‘thank you’ bag
Not being able to wait you took the disposable chopsticks out the bottom of the bag bringing them down with a harsh impact on the table causing them to stick out of there paper packaging You then begin to crack open the small white container of wonton soup with rice noodles picking up a dumpling with the chopsticks you held in your right hand sighing in content at the taste
You could hear Jess stand from his position residing on the bed before he stood on the side of you opening his own box of chicken fried rice and vegetables
“I don’t know how the hell you eat with those” Jess chuckled lightly as you looked up at him you were in the middle of biting a dumplings and the broth of the soup had made a mini mustache above your top lip
“I don’t know how you can’t” You smirked at the the thought of Jess struggling to bring noodles Into his mouth the last time you both had the food
You hummed alerting Jess before bringing the pair of chopsticks in front of his mouth before he opened relentlessly taking the dumpling from the wooden stick Into his mouth before he did the same with his rice and spoon which you ate without a second thought
You both continue eating and sharing food and as you begin to finish up there’s at least two containers of sweet sesame chicken, broccoli, and rice in result of over ordering you put the container back in the bag they came from and shoved them into the little black mini fridge
Jess began to take of his boots along with his band T-shirt while you did the same revealing a bra|tank top you choose
You and Jess were under the soft bed sheets in no time While Jess lied on your chest you ran your nails through his hair before curling it back to its original state while Jess drew patterns on the side of your hip
You were both asleep In no time bathing in each others embrace
༄༄༄
It was around 11 at night and you and Jess had been out since about three or four he was showing you around town and you both picked up a couple books at the small bookshop
You were now in the park just taking small laps while the gazebo‘s dim fairy lights illuminated the dark empty streets
Jess took a hold of your hand leading up the gazebo’s steps as the two of you sat on the wooden bench you leaned you head against Jess’s shoulders while you both sit in a comfortable silence
“Thank you for coming here.. for me” Jess stated suddenly while you looked up at him with a small gleam of admiration in your eye
“I’ll always be there for you Jess no matter what, I promise ” You Held out your pinky finger as to state just how serious you were before Jess smiled genuinely and wrapping his pinky around yours
The town’s clock tower began to ring alerting that it was 12am you looked up at your boyfriend face with a soft smile
“Happy birthday baby” You rested a hand against Jess’s jaw line bringing him Into a kiss which he deepened
You don’t know how long you both sat there kissing and cuddling on a park bench but deemed your baby’s special day as one for the books
Definitely one for the books.

While you and Jess hadn’t always been the best at keeping track of each other, you knew whenever the two of you got together you would pick up right where you left off, like no time at all had passed.
You waited at Weston’s Bakery, nibbling on your danish and sipping your coffee when the bell above the door rang. You turned and smiled at Jess, who skipped past the line to meet you for a hug.
“Hey, killer,” he said, squeezing extra tight for a second and making you laugh.
“Hey, trouble,” you responded, squeezing back. The two of you leaned back, taking one another in. Even though it had only been a few months since you last saw him, he’d gotten a haircut and grown out his stubble into a delectable beard. His dark eyes sparkled at you and you felt a blush rise in your cheeks.
“I’m gonna get coffee, you want anything?” he said, shucking off his coat and putting his laptop bag on the floor.
“A refill would be great,” you said, handing him your empty mug. He hooked it around his finger and nodded. While he walked away, you couldn’t help but watch how the fabric of his shirt shifted over his incredible torso.
He got in line and caught you staring, making you stare down at the remains of your danish. The door bell rang again and a little blonde girl ran in, followed shortly by her mother, Rory Gilmore.
The little girl clocked you sitting nearby and ran over, arms outstretched. “Book Lady!”
“Hey, Emily,” you said, accepting the girl’s hug. Since she was a baby, Rory had brought Emily in for your weekly storytime, and usually a few times a week. You’d even babysat on the rare occasion that Lorelai and Luke couldn’t. “How are you?”
Emily’s bright blue eyes lit up and she started talking about her school and what fun books she was reading. It didn’t escape your notice that Rory and Jess were engaged in their own conversation, which made your breath catch unconsciously.
As Jess’s only Stars Hollow High friend, you had witnessed his relationship with the brilliant Gilmore girl firsthand. You’d also been harboring your own crush on the rebellious Jess at the time, but he never seemed to notice. In college you’d moved on, had a few relationships, one even getting engagement-level-serious.
But old habits die hard, which you saw in how Jess and Rory interacted with each other. He said something that made her laugh and put a graceful hand on his arm. Your crush on Jess had never truly abated and if the tight feeling in your throat was any indication it was coming back full-force.
“Miss Book Lady? Did you hear me?” Emily asked and you turned your attention back to the girl.
“Sorry, Emily, what did you say?”
“I asked if you had any books on mummies! Mommy and Gramma and I watched the Mummy movie last night even though Papa Luke said it was too scary for me and now I wanna know more!”
You couldn’t help but smile at her enthusiasm. “I do have books on mummies, tell your mom to bring you by this week sometime and I’ll show you.”
“Thank you!” Emily said, dashing back to her mom. Jess had ordered and was heading back toward you with two steaming mugs, one he placed in front of you before snatching your danish and taking a large bite out of it.
“Hey! That’s mine!”
“I’ll get you another one,” he said with a devious smirk, brushing the crumbs off his fingers. “So how’ve you been?”
“Good! The book store is keeping me busy. I did get a reprimand from Taylor last month when I put up a display of true crime books.”
“Really? ”
“Yeah, he said I shouldn’t be encouraging the people of Stars Hollow to read about upsetting crimes lest they start committing them here.”
“Sounds like Taylor,” Jess smiled, taking a sip of his coffee. You opened your mouth to continue, but Emily’s voice and the bell ringing interrupted you.
“Bye Book Lady!” she shouted across the bakery, waving wildly as Rory tried to usher her out. You waved back.
“Emily seems fond of you,” Jess said.
You nodded, “Well with how often she and Rory are at the store it was kind of inevitable.” You took a large sip of coffee. “Anything…happen, there? With you two?”
Jess’s head dropped between his shoulders momentarily before he met your eyes from under his brow. “There might’ve been a thing, but that was…years ago. A quick relapse before Emily came along.”
“Since then?”
“Nah, not since then. I think we both realized our time had passed. And then she told me she was a few months pregnant and it was Logan’s, which was the final nail in the coffin.”
You hummed in agreement. You’d only met Logan a few times when he’d accomapnied Emily and Rory to story time, but he left a bad taste in your mouth. He was too slick, like everything just rolled off his back. Partnered with his air of superiority and the way he called your shop “little” and “charming” in a condescending tone, you could understand why Jess wanted no part in that situation.
“How about you?” he asked, leaning back in his chair with an air of faux-casualness.
“You mean have I ever hooked up with Rory? Far as I know, she’s straight, so no.” You joked, making Jess laugh.
“Not what I meant, but thanks for the visual. I meant do you have anyone special? Boyfriend, girlfriend, et cetera?”
“Not since Joe Mangianello got that restraining order.”
“So that’s a no?”
“Why the sudden interest in my love life or, more accurately, lack thereof?”
“I’ve got some news.”
“News that could impact my lack of love life?” You gasped theatrically, “Is Joe rescinding the restraining order?”
“I’m moving back to Stars Hollow.”
“Really?” You were delighted, to say the least. The idea of having Jess around all the time made you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
“Yeah, my mom and TJ could use the extra help now that Doula is a teenager and the jewelery store is taking off. So I used my last book advance to put a down payment on that little house over on Elm.”
This time, your gasp was quieter and much more genuine.
The little house on Elm was one that you’d always wanted. A small English-style cottage with large windows and stone accents on the exterior, along with a well-tended flower garden in the front yard. The inside was warm, an original working fireplace in the living room and original dark wood built-ins. You’d gotten to see the inside a few times when Mrs. Becker had invited you for tea, but she didn’t want to leave the house while she was still mobile so your hopes of one day buying it were dashed.
“I didn’t even know that house was on the market! What about Mrs. Becker?” You asked.
“I may have asked Taylor to let me know if that house ever went on sale in exchange for a donation to the Stars Hollow Historical Society. Mrs. Becker is moving into a senior community, so Taylor called me last week.” Jess confessed, his cheeks pinkening a bit.
“But, why would you want that house? You’re a freewheeling Philly literati type, not the settle-down-buy-a-house-in-a-small-town type.” You were confused by him buying a house in the town he claimed to hate, the town he left twice.
Your confusion only deepened when Jess reached across the table and took your hand in his, stroking his thumb along the ridge of your knuckles. His touch felt electric and yet, safe all at the same time. He ducked his head a little to catch your eyes with his.
“Remember when we would sneak out at night? Every time we passed that house you said it was the one you always wanted.”
“So you bought it out from under me? Scoundrel!” you accused jokingly, and he squeezed your fingers in his.
“No, but the last few years I started thinking about the people I could really count on, you know, the ones I knew would always be in my life and other than Luke and my family, the only person who came to mind was…you.”
His gaze was so earnest, so open and honest that it made your heart stutter in your chest. What was he saying?
“And since you and Luke and Liz, TJ, and Doula all live here, I figured it was time to come back. I can write from anywhere, and I’m sure Luke could use some help around the diner if I need the cash.”
“But, Jess-”
“And I think it’s about time I show the girl who would sneak out of her house with me in the middle of the night on a school night how I feel about her.”
“How you…what?” Your head was spinning. After all these years, had you both finally come full circle?
“I, uh, I want to give us a try. If that’s what you want, too, of course,” Jess said lowly, to not attract too much attention in the busy bakery.
You had to bite your lower lip to keep from beaming like a complete fool. Turning your wrist, you laced your fingers between Jess’s.
“Yeah, Jess, I’d really like that.”

jess mariano—it hurts to say, but i want you to stay.
summary: the breaks are the best parts of studying.
word count: 1.4k
fanfiction no. 004
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the principal of stars hollow high approached you one unsuspecting morning, asking you to follow him to his office for he had an important question to ask you. sure you were not in trouble, you followed him with eager curiosity, despite the worried looks on your friends' faces—they always worried for nothing.
"you know jess mariano, correct? asked your principal as he sat in his office chair and gestured for you to take a seat opposite him.
"yes?"
"I'm sure you've noticed jess has been skipping classes," he waited for you to acknowledge this, and only continued when you nodded vigorously in response. "in order for him to graduate this year, he needs to improve his grades."
he stopped there, waiting for another response, but this time it seemed he desired for it to be verbal.
"okay," you replied with a hint of confusion.
"it is perhaps...unconventional for me to propose this of another student," he prefaced, "but i would be remiss if i didn’t ask—would you be willing to tutor mr. mariano? now, of course," he continued before you could interject, "there would be benefits for you. extra credit."
extra credit? you knew yourself well enough to know you would have accepted this offer with or without these proposed benefits, but to save your silly little heart, you pretended to think over the offer and ask a question or two about the details.
。+゚☆゚+。★。+゚☆゚+。★。+゚☆゚+。★。+゚☆゚+。
jess trudged down the steps to the diner, peeking out from behind the curtain to see where y/n was sitting. scanning the room, he found them at a table close to the window, not far from the door, their nose buried in a textbook the size of his torso and thicker than drywall. he fiddled with the cd in his hand before finally shoving it down his back pocket and walking out into the nearly empty diner.
"hey," he announced himself.
you looked up from your history text book and turned to the voice's origin. jess mariano looked at you with a lopsided smirk while he pulled out a chair, turned it around, and rested his elbows on the back of it as he sat down.
"hey," you glanced at your watch, "you're right on time, i half expected you to at least be late."
jess shrugged, "i don't want to waste your time."
"that's considerate of you," you thanked him, "are you ready to get started?"
"on the reunification of italy during the eighteenth century? not really," he sucked in a breath through his teeth.
"well, when i don't want to study, i schedule out my breaks so i'm not working for too long at a time and i have something to look forward to," you suggested, "why don't we do that before we start?"
"okay," he nodded, "what do you do on your breaks?"
"anything. listen to music, get a snack, take a walk, read."
jess took this in and decided he knew exactly what he'd like to do for his first break. in fact, he was looking forward to it so much already, he found himself less inclined to do the work than he was before. but he settled himself down, looked over to you and your encouraging smile, and asked for a pen.
the next forty-five minutes clung to the clock's hands, dripping away slowly like honey from a spoon. jess's leg was bouncing impatiently, he tapped his pen against his notebook rhythmically until you told him to focus and stop distracting both himself and you.
"so, what was garibaldi's significance to reunification?" you asked jess, eyeing his notes and wondering whether he'd written down anything of importance, or just scribbled something down when he thought he was supposed to.
"it doesn't matter, because it's break time," he smiled mischievously.
you looked at the clock on the wall, and though he was right, you were eager to learn whether he had been paying attention, or whether your time had been somewhat ill-spent, for it was not all ill-spent if it was time spent with jess.
"can't you answer the question before we start the break?" you asked almost pleadingly.
"nah."
you looked at him with disbelief as he stood from his chair and headed over to the stairs that led to his shared apartment with luke. shaking your head, you went back to your own studying as he walked away, writing away almost immediately, which took jess by surprise when he turned around.
"aren't you coming?" he asked, forcing your attention away from work and over towards him.
"oh, sure," you replied awkwardly, rushing to catch up with him.
you'd never been in jess' apartment before, well, luke's apartment. but since jess was living there, it was much as you had expected—messy. clothes were strewn across the floor and bed, boxes lined every surface and every wall, music albums were scattered around his cd player, and there must have been at least a few dozen books littered across the entire space.
"it's very you," you broke the silence.
"uh, thanks. i got this new album today," he informed you, flashing the cover too fast for you to read the band's name. "they're called 'the strokes'."
you hadn't heard of them, but kept an open mind as jess put the cd on and skipped past some of the tracks until it landed on an upbeat song with light drums and a catchy guitar riff. immediately, jess began bobbing his head to the beat, subconsciously biting his lip as he watched the cd spin. he waited a moment before he turned to gauge your reaction.
it was hard not to move to the beat in some way, it was one of those songs. the man singing through the speaker had a unique voice that both you and jess seemed to enjoy.
"you like it?" he asked.
"yeah," you laughed, "i think it's awesome. can i see?" you pointed to the cd case.
jess raised his eyebrows, offering it to you. daring to walk across the room and further into his apartment, you took the cd from his hand, acutely aware of the way your fingers brushed over his, and turned it over to see the track list.
"we're listening to track five," he said.
"'someday'" you read the title aloud.
"yeah, my other favourite is 'last nite'" he added, noticing the first song was fading.
"put it on, i wanna hear," you demanded gently.
jess didn't get flustered, but if he did, he kew this would be one of those times where he'd be tripping over his own feet and fumbling with the buttons on his cd player. instead, he was collected as he changed it to track seven and tapped his foot to the beat.
"i think i’ll have to get myself this cd," you smiled excitedly, tapping the plastic case against your palm.
jess didn't say anything at all, he just watched you put the cd back on his dresser and stare at the music spinning in his player, your eyes going bright when the instrumental part sounded through the upstairs apartment, your head gently nodding to the beat. he thought you were perfect. and when the principal dragged him into his office to express the idea he had for him, he was sure he'd decline swiftly, certain anything he had to suggest would be stupid and not worthy of his time. but he had never been so wrong. he knew the moment he heard your name in that odious man's office that his life would become infinitely better seeing you twice a week in luke's diner.
but here you were, in his apartment, validating his music taste and enjoying it almost as much as him, being the most wonderful person he had ever known or read about. if he were a poet, he would create poems for the ages, poems that would one day be discussed in dingy classrooms, analysed to the heavens, and they would wonder who the person was that had him so enraptured beyond anything or anyone else. he would make the whole world desperate to get to know you.
you felt his staring, his unwavering gaze upon you. could you bare to look at him?
"this one's called 'hard to explain', i like this one too," jess whispered as the next song came on, and you found yourself involuntarily turning to look at him as he spoke—he was closer than before.
"yeah?"
"yeah," he breathed against your lips, rushing into a quick kiss before he could talk himself out of it.
you reciprocated his advances rather quickly, and once he felt this, the kiss became slower and more purposeful. his hands reached for your waist, trailing up your back to grip your hair.
"i- um, i don't usually do this on my breaks," you laughed breathily, "just in case you thought this was just something i got up to."
jess sniggered, "is it something you want to get up to more often?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow.
"only if it's with you," you confessed, cheeks heating from the bold confession.
"i only like to share music and literature," he winked, leaning back in.

although he’d never admit it— luke danes cared about you. in a way he’d never cared for anyone else before. and he didn’t like it, in fact he hated it because with care came love, and vice versa. and when you’d come into the diner all giddy about another man he had to pretend not to care, although it seemed like just another day with luke; he was struggling internally.
so now, as he heard you sniffle through the phone, ranting about how yet another man had broken your heart, he found it hard to mask his own giddiness. he never saw the need for going through all of these frogs when your prince charming was right in front of you and had been since the two of you were children. even though he wasn’t very at all charming in actuality.
“luke?” you whimpered, your voice all congested and whiny from how hard you’d be crying. “yeah?” he responded, his voice warm and comforting rather than scolding in the way it usually was. he wasn’t here to give you a lecture like he usually would. he just wanted you to feel alright, he could tell how hurt you really were.
“could you come over?” you asked shamefully which was followed by a quick reply. “already in the car.” he huffed, it was like he could almost hear your expression brightening through the phone. “have you got the—”
“the brownies and the dvds.” he cut you off once again. you sniffled again, but you weren’t sad anymore, you were overwhelmed. you’d never felt quite so safe or cared for, it was new, it was.. nice.
“thank you, luke.” you finally responded after a prolonged silence. “for what?”
“being luke.”

pairing: lorelai gilmore being all our moms for one blurb straight 🫶
summary: for when you need a hug from your mom & when you need someone to be there.
warnings: mentions of self harm & depression
a/n: i made it headcannons because it just felt better i guess??
• you’ve been stuck in a void for months
• something’s been… off.
• maybe it was because your asshole dad finally left once again, except this time he left yelling at you.
• or maybe it was your condescending grandparents who didn’t hesitate to call you out on how you hadn’t picked your college yet despite being nineteen years old, or career path, or had a pretty pretty boyfriend like they wanted you to.
• or maybe it was the constatant comparison of you and your perfect sister. the one who’s in her first year at harvard, and with the pretty boyfriend from a rich family, and who’s known her career since she was five.
• you were just unhappy. unhappy with all.
• your favorite band didn’t even help, neither did walks with your best friend jess, or any of your typical hobbies.
• everyone seemed to notice you were “off.”
• especially your mother, who called your sister about it everyday, but was stuck in boston at harvard. and your best friend jess, who watched you like a psychopath once he started to notice your daily wearing of long sleeves. even in 80 degrees.
• luke watched you say no to coffee, and to your favorite meals that he offered to cook you.
• “um.. are you o-“ luke began to ask you only to get dragged off by his nephew.
• “don’t ask her anything, it’ll only make it worse. she’ll feel weird and- it’s not gonna be good, okay?” jess told his uncle as luke hesitantly agreed once he looked at your face some more.
• you looked gone, you put on a smile. you tried. but you looked gone. anyone who knew you truly recognized that fact.
• it was when you arrived home one day that you found your mother and a new furry friend stood beside her
• “y/n, this is paul anka!!” “mom, you can’t even take care of yourself nonetheless a dog.” “ okay mean but, that’s why he’s yours.”
• she read the day before that emotional support animals we’re becoming a very helpful thing
• lorelai treated you normally, well at least she tried. but there were too many looks out of the corner of her eye as you sat in your room. blasting music as you sat on your bed - doing nothing.
• “hey- um, jess… have you noticed anything different about y/n?”
• it was when your grandmother made a comment about how it wouldn’t kill you to get a real job instead of working at the video store down the street if you weren’t serious about going to college. you snapped.
• the silent ride home was too quiet for it’s own good. the words you spoke to your grandparents replayed in both yours and your mother’s head. it was when you felt your eyes sting that she pulled over the car.
• “mom,” you sobbed to her as she reached over and pulled you into a life threatening hug.
• she smelled like vanilla and the cheap perfume you bought her for christmas two years ago. she smelled like home.
• “y/n, hey, hey it’s okay. i’ve got you,” she told you as you let it out.
• you let it out. you really did. you told her what bothered you lately. why you were so upset with the world. she didn’t let you finish a sentence without letting you know she was intently listening.
• she understood, she loves you.
• lorelai patted your hand as you told her about your dad and how much his leaving bothered you. how everyone favored your perfect sister over you. and how that made you feel.
• “y/n, i love you. i’m here for you. we’re gonna do everything we can to get you the help you deserve. because you deserve to be happy, honey. you deserve it all and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”
• “i love you, mom.”

Lees, Lers, Laughter, and Other "L" Words
YALL IT IS HERE MY FIRST GILMORE GIRLS FIC!!! 'tis rory+jess because I will accept no other ideas in my gremlin brain and it's a classic hurt+comfort. I hope you guys like it! Also, my Ao3 is officially up and running, so I will link that here as well as in my bio. That is also where I post my longer works (think chaptered) so if that's something you'd like check it out!
It was a typical Friday night, and they had just gotten back from a particularly awful dinner. She didn’t mean to start a fight; she never did. But regardless of her intentions, Lorelai didn’t see it that way. All she saw was another fight with Emily, and Rory felt awful.
“Mom, I’m sorry,” earnestly cried Rory, while Lorelai merely walked past her and into the kitchen to pour a cup of coffee. “What do you want me to say? I had no idea you didn’t tell them you were dating Luke. It’s been over a month. You’ve always told them by now!” she insisted.
Lorelai spun around at that. “Oh, so now it’s my fault?” she rebutted. Rory couldn’t help but sigh.
“I never said that. All I’m saying is that you shouldn’t be mad at me for something I didn’t cause.”
“But you did cause it, Rory. Once again, I ask you to refrain from speaking to my mother about anything you haven’t cleared with me first! You know this by now!” she exclaimed, raising her voice. A distant voice echoed from the back of the house.
“You alright there, Sugar?”
Both girls sighed this time. “Yes, Babette!” Lorelai shouted in response to the nosy neighbor in her yard.
“Alright! Just checking! Me and Morey could hear you clear across the fence!”
Lorelai turned back around to face Rory. “Now look what happened! Babette heard us!”
“You can’t seriously be blaming me for that. You’re the one who’s yelling!”
“Only because you ruined everything!”
The last words hung in the air ominously, while the mother and daughter stood in the quiet. Rory sniffled lightly. “I’m sorry. Okay?” With that, she gathered her coat and stepped out into the chilly Stars Hollow wind.
Rory kicked the stones in her path, wandering down the streets in front of Doose’s. She was feeling miserable. She passed by Kim's antiques, frowning in remembering that she wouldn't be allowed in. Poor Lane was still under extreme "groundation" as she coined it, from the Keg Party the other night. Oh well, she thought. Just one more thing to go wrong. After the party, she and Jess were still kinda fighting, Lane was grounded, Dean refused to speak to her, and now her mom was mad. That's just peachy.
And for some reason, all the feelings and emotions that had been welling up inside her for quite some time were rising to the surface. She thought of Max Medina and Luke, and how her mom had yet another attachment. She thought of Paris, Madeline, and Louise and how they all hated her. She thought of Dean and how he was fighting Jess. She thought back about the horrid Friday night dinner. As these thoughts continued, she alarmed herself by feeling a drop of water splash on her tights. Soon, more and more followed, as the tears she'd held back now flowed freely.
It sucked. No two ways about it, it sucked, and she let herself cry quietly, now sitting in the town square.
—-------------
Jess Mariano walked down the street, his hands shoved deep in his pockets. It was a crisp autumn night in Stars Hollow, and the leaves on the trees were starting to turn yellow and red. It was one of his favorite times of the year, but he was feeling a bit restless. He had been thinking about Rory a lot lately, wondering how she was doing. He hadn't seen her in over a week and was avoiding her for fear she’d yell at him about Dean, I mean, the man started it, okay? He was just defending himself. With a fence. And a table.
He wasn't sure where they stood, but he knew that he wanted to see her again.
He originally planned to go straight to the Gilmore house, but Jess felt his heart start to race. He grimaced, imagining that Lorelai might not even let him in after the chaos from the night. Frankly, he wasn't sure how Rory was going to react to his surprise visit either, but he was hoping for the best. Turns out he didn't even have to worry about Lorelai at all because on his way over he glanced by the town gazebo and then spun his head around abruptly again after noticing a frail figure curled up on the bench.
“Rory?” he questioned to himself. He cautiously walked up the steps and smiled shyly when she looked up at him.
“Jess!” she lept up and threw her arms around his broad shoulders, hugging him tightly. “I missed you.”
Jess smiled brighter, breathing a deep sigh of relief that they were still on good terms. “Hey, I missed you too.” He cocked his head as they pulled away, noticing her smeared mascara and tear-stained cheeks. “What’s going on?” Anger flooded his chest. “Did Dean do anything?” he demanded.
Rory shook her head adamantly. “No, Dean didn't do anything. It’s my mom.”
“Your mom? You guys are best friends, what's going on?” he asked, wrapping his arm around her comfortingly.
“Fight with Emily,” she sighed. “She just blamed it on me and it hurt I guess,” Tear whelmed up in her eyes, as she crumpled.
“Hey, hey, hey none of that.” Jess took his free arm and gently wiped the tears off her cheeks. “You're too pretty to cry.”
Rory smiled slightly, but it fell right away. “I appreciate it, but I'm probably gonna be doing that a lot more.
"Is there anything I can do to help?" he asked, his voice soft.
Rory shook her head again. "I don't think so," she said, her eyes starting to fill with tears once again.
Jess didn't know what to do. He wanted to make her feel better, but he didn't know how. A small smile quickly encompassed his face, as an idea popped into his head.
"Well, I might depending on how ticklish you are?" he asked, a mischievous grin on his face.
Rory looked at him, surprise written all over her face. "What?" she asked, laughing.
Jess grinned. “Well, are you?” Rory shyly pulled her knees up to her chest. “I dunno,” she muttered, hiding her wavering smile. Jess laughed.
“You don’t know? Well, we’re about to find out!” his hand darted to and squeezed his girlfriend’s side, eliciting a squeak that would outshine a mouse. Jess looked at her face, trying to read if she was comfortable with this or not (he didn't want a repeat of the keg party that's for sure), and to his delight, she was already giggling in anticipation.
Jess didn't hesitate. He reached out and started tickling her, immediately eliciting a string of giggles. Jess smiled coyly and amped it up, feeling her body tense up and hearing her giggles grow louder. He started by tickling her sides, lightly running his fingers up and down her ribs. Rory squirmed and laughed, trying to twist away from his touch, but he was too quick for her.
As he continued tickling her, Jess could feel her body relax and her laughter become more genuine. He could tell that she was enjoying this moment of playful intimacy between them, and he was happy to be able to make her smile.
He started to focus on her stomach, where he knew she was most ticklish. He traced circles around her navel, his fingers lightly grazing her skin. Rory's laughter turned into breathless gasps, and she tried to squirm away from him, but he held her tight.
Jess leaned in closer to her, his breath tickling the sensitive skin on her neck. He whispered in her ear, "What's the matter, Gilmore? Can't take it?"
Rory shook her head, her face flushed with laughter. "Ihihihih’ll kihihihll youhuhuh!" she threatened, but she was still smiling.
Jess couldn't resist teasing her a bit more. “You’re the one dying laughing.” He cringed at his bad joke, but it made Rory laugh even harder, so it was worth it. Ugh, the things he did for her, he thought, chuckling alongside her. He started to tickle the backs of her knees, knowing that it would send her into a fit. Sure enough, Rory's legs started kicking uncontrollably, and she let out a loud shriek and flopped over on his lap.
As Jess finally stopped tickling her, Rory lay there, panting and trying to catch her breath. She looked up at him, a big smile on her face.
"Thank you," she said, still catching her breath.
Jess shrugged, trying to play it cool. "Hey, anytime you need a laugh, just let me know."
All was quiet for a minute until-
“I love you.”
Rory reeled back at the comment while Jess’s face burned. Why the hell did he say that? It was so not the right time! He was spiraling, mortified, and panicked, wondering how he could be so stu-
“I love you too.”
The two looked at each other with shock and pure giddiness as they professed their love. Jess excitedly scooped up Rory off the bench and spun her around playfully as she giggled. He kissed her, and she kissed back, both purely entranced with each other.
I love you!” Rory said again, growing more eager by the second. Jess laughed and playfully rolled his eyes.
“I love you too, Gilmore. More than you’ll ever know.”

Jess blocked a lot of things out of his mind that included your sister Rory Gilmore twisting her hair and batting her eyelashes at him while he worked behind the counter of his uncle’s restaurant as his eyes darted to the clock
The past four times he had looked you had at least twenty minutes until you were let out of school you were switching to Chilton soon and Jess was still trying to fighter out how to deal with the fact
He walked through the court his semi smile he didn’t realize he had on his face dropping when the sight of you and some guy talking to each other caused his jaw to clench
He walked through the court his semi smile he didn’t realize he had on his face dropping when the sight of you and some guy talking to each other caused his jaw to clench
You were handing him something a folder it looked like and before Jess could intervene the guy was already walking away giving you a wave which you returned happily a little too happy for Jess’s liking
You turned around meeting eyes with Jess before you slowly jogged over to him with a bright smile on your face before you came I to contact with his chest wrapping your arms around his waist
“That guy you were talking to, who is he?” Jess questioned interrupting you before you could even begin your sentence as you furrowed your brows retrieving your head from the comfort of his soft band Tee at the hostility in his voice and you suddenly realized how stiff he was under your touch before you dropped your arms to your sides
“He’s just a new friend, whats up with you?” You questioned your head tilted as you looked up at the brunette
“Why was he talking to you?”
“He was asking for some notes he missed Jess. Why does it matter?” You took a full step back now Jess not being the only one tense as you both stood in the middle of the court yard most students already starting their ways on their destination
“He only wants to put his grubby little hands on you like the rest of the guys in this town” Jess stated in a matter of fact tone before you scoffed turning on you heels and beginning to walk away
“You know I’m right Y/n that’s why you’re so damn mad” Jess was hot on your heels to the point you couldn’t even turn around without bumping into him
“Does he even have a girlfriend?” At that you stopped in your tracks you weren’t even together so why the hell should he even care?
“Why do you care!?” You turned around sharply and if It weren’t for Jess having a decent balance you both would’ve went tumbling over You didn’t mean for it to come out so harsh but Jess was testing your patience
“Why were you so jealous when me and Shane kissed at the fair!?” He shot back at you before you could start to walk away again
“Jealous!? You don’t even exist to me!” You found yourself shouting at the brunette jabbing your a finger into his chest the townspeople sparing you both whispering glances and if he were surprised his face sure did nothing to show it
“You’re mine and you know it Y/n. If I see that punk talking to you again you won’t recognize him the next time you see him” Jess had grabbed your wrist as it thrashed against his hold not enough to hurt you but it was still firm to get his point across
“Did that make you feel better huh? Go somewhere and fuck yourself Jess.” You seethed before successfully snatching your hand away from his hold storming off
Jess decided against following you giving you a chance to clear your head before he turned on his heel walking the other way deep down you knew you both belonged to each other it was just a matter of time before you stopped denying it

ok but like Jess and Rory would 100% be that one couple where one could be doing the most casual thing ever and other is like 🥹❤️
But also, I need to know what casual things do you guys think one would do (without realizing) to make the other flustered? You know, like (for my example) they’re just having a casual convo and say, Rory starts playing around with Jess’ hands, intertwining her hands with his and he loses his train of thought.
Please reblog or comment, I’d love to see!! :))

seeing you tonight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing / jj maybank x fem!kook!reader
genre / fluff, fluff, fluff! slight angst if you squint (?) cute little established relationship read:)
warnings / mentions of an argument, drinking (not the reader), talks about insecurities, i'm pretty sure that's it ^^
synopsis / to say the least, you were pissed at jj. and you were pretty sure he shared the feeling. what started out as a petty little bicker escalated into an actual argument. however, you're going to have to deal with him sooner or later since you're both attending the monthly outer banks beach blowout. seeing him tonight, it's a bad idea right?
author's note / my outer banks phase has been resurfacing, and apparently so has my jj obsession! this is inspired by 'bad idea right?' by olivia rodrigo <3 it doesn't entirely follow the song's storyline, but the idea is there. hope you guys like the little homage to gilmore girls (it's fall, after all.) and the little jess and rory mentions. enjoy!
Tumblr media
"Woah, woah, woah- hold that thought, JJ. You argued with her over 'Gilmore Girls'?" Kie asked with furrowed brows and the most confused tone you could hear.
"Well- not technically." JJ replied, but it came out more as a question. Pope decided to pop into the conversation, "How on earth do you argue with your girlfriend over a show about a single mom and her mensa level daughter?" he asked.
JJ sighed sarcastically after John B let out a snicker whilst picking out some clothes for that night's party.
"We didn't really argue about the show. I just didn't like this opinion she had on one of the characters 's all. I think." he shrugged, saying the last part more to himself.
"Enlighten me then. What was this opinion she had?" Kie challenged.
It was early in the morning. JJ had slept over at your house the day before. It was now four am and you were both snuggled up together under a duvet on your couch, head on his shoulder as you both waited for your pop tarts to toast and for your coffee to brew.
You tore yourself away from him, causing JJ to groan and break the comfortable silence that engulfed the two of you.
You giggled lightly at his rather clingy state as you picked the TV remote up from the coffee table in front of you before settling back into his arms.
He held onto you slightly tighter this time, as if he didn't want you out of his hold.
As you turned the television on and started browsing through some shows on Netflix, JJ buried his head into your hair.
"What show d'ya want to watch?" he said all muffled, pressing a small kiss onto your head after.
"Gilmore Girls. You were binging it with me the last time you slept over, remember?" you said, looking up at him. He hummed in response.
"I remember. It's that favorite show of yours." he replied, smiling to himself when he noticed you didn't continue watching it without him, the episode displayed on the 'continue watching' panel being the one you left off on last time.
You both watched in silence filled with only the sounds of your reactions to some scenes. You both only paused to get your pop tarts and coffee, but JJ offered to get it for you before you could even stand up.
After a few episodes, you decided to speak. "Y'know, a lot of people like Jess, but I just can't see why." you said nonchalantly.
JJ looked at you with a confused expression and furrowed brows. Not that he was the biggest fan of that character, but he was curious as to why.
You took his look as a sign to expound on your stand. "Mm, he just doesn't seem to have the best influence on Rory. Not that he really influences her or anything, but you know what I mean?" you sat up straight to look at the blonde boy next to you.
"Not that Dean was either, I remember you droning on and on to me about that one house wife episode. What was it again? Diane Reed?" JJ replied. "Donna Reed. And you know I don't like Dean at all, I just don't think Jess was that big of an upgrade." you simply shrugged.
"And why is that? He and Rory have more things in common than she and Dean did." the blonde inquired.
"It's not really a problem with compatibility. He's just getting into fights all the time, he's incredibly disrespectful to both Luke and Lorelai, even Rory sometimes! And the whole bad boy, good girl thing they have going on isn't exactly the best thing." you said.
JJ doesn't know why, but he somehow felt himself getting defensive.
He scoffs. "So what, they're in love! Since when was opposites attract a bad thing?" his tone was shifting now, and this took you aback.
"He picks fights for no reason! I'm sorry that I'm not soft for him all because he likes to read books!" you met his tone with a hint of sarcasm.
"Is this because he's not some rich kid with a trust fund like Rory? Are those your standards?" he said. You were just bewildered by this argument now.
"Where are you even getting this?" you asked in disbelief.
"Look, I'm just saying that I don't see anything wrong with Jess! It just seems like you're nitpicking what he does." JJ was standing up now.
"Why are you taking this so personally? Is it so wrong for me to dislike a character?" you stood up as well.
"I don't know. It just seems weird that a character you don't exactly like is damn similar to me!" the blonde said, frustration mixed with confusion laced in his voice.
"What? JJ, you and Jess are two completely different people. I don't know what you're talking about--" you were cut off by him discarding your statement with a wave of his hand.
"You know what, I should really head over to John B's. I'll see you later." he said blandly, walking past you and heading for the door.
"You idiot!" Kie exclaimed once JJ stopped his retelling of that morning's events. "You know she would never even think about comparing you to someone in such an awful manner, gosh. That girl loves you so damn much it actually concerns me. Don't get me started on when you brought up the trust fund thing" she scolded.
"And dude, for the record, this Milo Ventimiglia guy is way hotter than you." John B said, showing them all a photo of him he found on google as if to say this was a reason the two couldn't be compared.
"Wow, thanks JB." JJ said sarcastically.
"Look, man, your girl's smart. She'll realize what you were implying with your argument and might get hurt." Pope added. Kie nodded furiously.
JJ's blue eyes softened at the thought of his words hurting his own girl. "Oh, man." he sunk into the couch, burying his face in his hands. After a few moments he sat back up properly. "Okay, hopefully she's still going to the party, if I can't make amends there I'll buy flowers and go to her house." he continued seriously.
Sarah was sitting on your bed as you threw clothes around your room from your closet in search of an outfit all while filling her in on your argument with JJ.
"I mean, how could he even think that I was comparing him with a character I was talking distastefully about? JJ's perfect to me, I don't see how he's as 'bad' as Jess as he thought I was implying." you rambled while inspecting one of your laced tank tops, nodding to yourself and throwing it onto your bed as a sign of approval.
"I didn't realize that what I was saying seemed to hit him where it hurt. I feel bad about that, but I'm still frustrated." you continued while eyeing two sweaters in your hands, deciding to go with the one that belonged to your boyfriend.
"You didn't know. Honestly, I think JJ still thinks he's not good enough for you. Not just with the whole kook and pogue thing he told us before." your friend said while tracing her finger over the lace on your top.
You paused and threw a pair of shorts next to your sweater and top before turning around to face Sarah.
"He thinks that?" you asked with soft eyes. "Oh.. I'm taking this as you guys haven't talked about that yet." she said.
"No, we haven't. I didn't even know he felt that way" you said.
Sarah smiled. "Well, a reason to talk to him later. Right?" she asked with a slightly tilted head. You gave her a tight lipped smile and a nod.
"Yeah. And here I was thinking seeing him later was a bad idea." you said, more to yourself than to your friend.
"You better get ready then, party starts in an hour. I'll help you with your makeup." Sarah said, standing up and handing you your outfit.
Your ears were filled with the sounds of party music, loud cheering, chattering, the opening of bottles of booze accompanied with the chants of some random guy's friends telling him to chug.
You were walking around the party on your own, Sarah already went her own way to look for John B.
Your eyes scanned the beach for the head of blonde hair and blue eyes you loved dearly. You were still eyeing the area as some guy randomly walked up to you and started trying to flirt with you by using pickup lines.
Your ears practically tuned his voice out from the get go.
Your heart rate seemed to have picked up when you saw your boyfriend from afar with some of his other friends that seemed only a bit familiar to you. He looked happy. Smiling widely and laughing after downing a red cup filled with beer with ease.
After looking at him for a few seconds, practically burning a whole into his skull with your gaze, he turned around and made eye contact.
You turned around almost immediately and shifted your attention to the guy in front of you.
"I'm sorry, what was that?" you asked in pure confusion, clueless as to why this man even approached you.
He smirked. "Well, my last statement was asking how a pretty girl such as yourself is alone at a blowout like this." he said.
You took a half step back in slight discomfort. Unbeknownst to you, this didn't go unnoticed by JJ and he immediately excused himself and made his way over to you.
You didn't realize the blonde boy's presence until you felt the all too familiar warm hand of his snake around your waist, pulling you close.
After looking up and seeing him, you faced the guy in front of you with a small smile. The poor boy seemed confused.
JJ shifted his gaze to you. "This a new friend of yours baby?" he gestured the hand that held his red cup towards him.
"Oh, uh- I didn't know you had a boyfriend." he scratched the back of his neck.
"You never gave me the chance to tell you." you simply shrugged.
"Okay then.. Bye." he backtracked as he stated before walking off in long and fast paced strides. JJ simply laughed at this.
"J, can we talk?" you turned to face him properly, looking around to to signal that the conversation should be held somewhere more private. He nodded and you both went to the empty side of the beach.
Once you were both just standing still, there was a rather awkward silence.
"You look gorgeous tonight, as always." he said with a smile that you returned.
"I'm sorry." he simply said. You looked up at him, confused. "I overreacted." he continued.
"JJ, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that what I said could come off as comparison." you said as you looked down.
JJ furrowed his eyebrows and held your chin, tilting it upwards so you were looking at him.
"Why are you apologizing? You couldn't have known. It's just- well, sometimes I can't help but feel that you're too good for me" he said, dropping his hand to your hips as he threw the red cup to the ground so his other hand could mirror this. He played with the hem of your sweater.
"Yeah, a little birdie told me you thought that." you said, the frown on your face somehow heard in your voice. "Sarah," JJ practically groaned to which you nodded.
"I don't get how you could even think that. I think the opposite at times, you're too good for me." you shook your head.
JJ tilted his head to the side as if his reason was the most obvious thing in the world. He scoffed slightly with a smile. "Just look at you. We're from two different social classes, you're a total good girl, and let's face it. I get into fights like Jess and I admit that I'm not the best influence." he said.
"Those social classes don't matter. And JJ, hey look at me, you are not Jess. You get into fights because you're defending your friends, you're defending me. You are loyal, amazing, a person with all these good adjectives and a great heart. You're respectful, my parents love you. I love you. So don't you ever think that you're not good enough because you're more than enough. Got it?" you said as you trapped his face in between your hands.
His hands were on your wrists, and he was smiling with tears slightly welling in his eyes. "I love you, so damn much." he whispered lovingly before pressing a kiss into the palm of your hand. You smiled widely at this.
"Let's ditch this party, wreck our plans." you said as you wrapped your arms around his neck. "Not a bad idea, let's hit the chateau this time." he replied, pulling you flush to him. You smiled and pressed a quick kiss onto his lips.
After pulling away you decided to message Sarah before leaving.
Hey, I'll be heading back early tonight.
You picked up JJ's red cup from the ground to dispose of properly before standing up and intertwining your hands together.
"You pick the show this time." you told him. "Sounds great to me." he smiled before falling into step with you.
Your phone dinged, indicating that Sarah responded. You shook your read with a smile as you read the reply.
Yeah right.

I want to kiss him. I want to kiss him so badly. Not just his lips, but his face, his dimples, his forehead, everything. My heart beats fast, when I realize that I could do it. I could kiss him. So, I do. I lean over and give him a quick peck on the lips. Just a small taste. He stares at me, open-mouthed.
Richie giggles once again.
Please, other-Rory, don’t be mad at me.
