A Library with a deadly enchantment.
A fae lord who wants in.
A human woman willing to risk it all for a taste of power.
In a land ruled by ruthless Fae, twenty-one-year-old Lore Alemeyu's village is trapped in a forested prison. Lore knows that any escape attempt is futile–her scars are a testament to her past failures. But when her village is threatened, Lore makes a desperate deal with a fae lord.
She convinces him that she will risk her life for wealth, but really she’s after the one thing the Fae covet above all: magic of her own.
As Lore navigates the hostile world outside, she’s forced to rely on two fae males to survive. When undeniable chemistry ignites, she’s not just in danger of losing her life, but her heart to the very creatures she can never trust.
Happy book birthday to Lore of the Wilds by Analeigh Sbrana!
Ana's not on Tumblr, so I'm doing the celebration for her 💖🥳
If you like:
-🍄 cottage core
-✨ fairy core
-📚 light/dark academia vibes
-🌈 a diverse cast of all Black LGBTQIA+ characters
-💘 romance
-🧝🏾♀️ the idea of being kidnapped by a fairy prince to tidy up his cursed/enchanted library and coming into your own magical powers as a result, then Lore of the Wilds might just be for you!
Full disclosure: I worked on this book as a proofreader before it got picked up by Harper Collins, and I loved every minute of it. I kept forgetting I was supposed to be working and reading ahead. I scheduled a week to finish reading it and did it in 3 days, and the only reason it took so long was that I had to actually pause and work on it 😅
Lore of the Wilds is available now in ebook, audio, paperback, and hardback from most book retailers. Check out the Harper Collins links to find a retailer close to you!
Please consider checking out Lore. It's a stunning world with an amazing cast, and Ana deserves every bit of success after she fought so hard to get her all Black fairytale past the hurdles of mainstream publishing.

here is a thing that is happening! if you're interested in The Remarkable Retirement of Edna Fisher, my debut novel about an 83-year-old who leaves the nursing home for a fantastical adventure, you can join me and Cute Mutants author SJ Whitby for a virtual book launch event. we'll talk about my book, play book launch bingo (sorry, Edna), and give out some prizes, plus there'll be a Q&A at the end if you have any questions about Remarkable Retirement, my future projects, or my writing more generally.
here's a registration link! the event will be on Zoom on Monday, April 24, at 7:30p.m. EST.

[Publishing] Excitement, awe and terror
Yes, it is time to tremble, quake, and possibly do a nervous wee.
Because Learning to be Human is now available to order in the US & Canada!
It is, of course, already available in the UK.
It is, I think you’ll agree, a saucy and well-constructed tome. If you decide you don’t like the stories (unlikely, there’s a huge variety stretching from the Iliad to me), you can always use this as a small…

I have three events coming up in March!
March 1, 5-8pm, 300 South A Street, Santa Rosa- Art Raffle for a local Palestinian family helping their loved ones in Gaza, as well as open studios, art, and crafts. The raffle itself will take place in a vintage shop called Strange Constellation, a Black owned store which hosts a lot of cool events. I am going to try and attend at least the first hour of this event. I donated a signed copy of Gender Queer as well as some limited edition prints and zines :)
March 7, 7-8:30pm, CCA's Blattner Hall, 75 Arkansas St, San Francisco- I will be speaking with Richard Meyer, an Art History Professor from Stanford and author of Outlaw Representation: Censorship and Homosexuality in Twentieth-Century American Art. We will each give a short presentation on the censorship of queer art and literature, then have a conversation with each other, followed by a reception. I haven't made my slide show yet, but I am planning on speaking directly about the experience of being a banned book author.
March 13, 6-7:30pm, Book Passage Corte Madera, 51 Tamal Vista Blvd., Corte Madera- I will helping my friend Tessa Hulls celebrate the release of her debut comic memoir, Feeding Ghosts! This is a heavy book, and the process of working on it stretched Tessa's mental health to the breaking point. We're going to talk about the emotions that go into writing an intimate memoir and the threat of creative burnout afterwards. Both of our books will be for sale and we'll both do signings afterwards.

It's here!! Anna Karenina Isn't Dead from Improbable Press
The anthology
Welcome to the rewritten lives of thirty-two literary legends
From Russia's Anna Karenina to Vietnam's Lady Trieu, from Cio-Cio-San to Frankenstein's second creature, suffering, madness, or death is the fate of far too many women in classic literature. Anna Karenina Isn't Dead undoes that.
In this anthology of literary women, these women live. Do they have a happily ever after? You'll see. Do they have a happy-right-now? Oh yes.
These are the reimagined tales of the famous, the infamous, the barely mentioned women in myths, poems, and legends. These are the stories of the Lady in Black, Wendy Darling, Dido, and many more, each getting a better journey than the one she originally got.
Here Anna Karenina and her literary kin are not dead. Very far from it.
Edited by @atlinmerrick ; Cover artwork by Claudia Caranfa
My story
My mother and I loved the poem "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noyes, and I jumped at the chance to write Bess a better ending. In my story "Love Knot," I gave her five minutes’ notice of the soldiers’ arrival, and she did the rest.
King George's men saw Samuel only as a highwayman, a rogue, a thief. They knew his rich clothes, but not how they smelled of sun and sweat and the cold road. They knew the weapons beneath his coat, but not how he liked to use his rapier to cut apples from a tree, how he would flash his shiny pistols at the children who gathered to hear his stories of daring battles for yellow gold. They knew he'd given a confession of love to Bess. They didn't know what it had sounded like in the earnest voice of a boy who was then only eight years old.

Book Birthday!
The Framed Women of Ardemore House
Today’s the day! This has been a long journey; I’m a historian who writes about social justice most of the time (with an upcoming book on interwar transgender history). I’m also non-binary and autistic, so representation means SO MUCH. I think many of us here have been following GoodOmens (congrats on the big win!) and OFMD, stories that give us sensitive and celebrated diversity. GO, in particular, made me feel ‘seen’ at a critical time in my life. This is my first fiction, book one of a series, and I wanted to show some of what it’s like to navigate the world as neurospicy—but without the cliche or stigma. If mystery fiction is your jive, I hope you will think about reading!
Autistic protagonist determined to be herself
Strong women characters, LGBTQ characters, disability representation
Murder in the manor
Dual POV
Double mysteries
Gothic elements and literary Easter eggs
A sharp, savvy mystery about an autistic editor who inherits a crumbling English estate, only to find herself at the center of a murder investigation when a family portrait vanishes and a dead body turns up.

Hey you, come to my book launch on Saturday the 19th of November in London. It's free entry, everyone welcome, you just need to sign up here.
The book is a kind of alternate history: what if the familiar great artists had painted dinosaurs? There's 50 (yes fifty!) new never-before-seen paintings inside, and it will be out on Amazon in late Novemeber.
