alright back on my fae!jaskier bullshit

there are myths of fairies assuming the guise of animals

imagining jaskier in animal form acting as a companion for the witchers and helping them out in times of need

like lambert is getting stiffed by an alderman so jaskier turns into a magpie and starts pecking the shit out of the alderman and shitting in his hair until he drops his coin purse for lambert to take

geralt gets injured on a really difficult hunt and jaskier turns into a horse and hauls him bodily back to camp

eskel needs help getting information for a quest so jaskier turns into a mouse and sneaks into rooms and listens to conversations to help him spy and reports back what he's learned

but ALSO imagining him using his powers for evil

jaskier couldn't sleep all night and is up before eskel for once. he turns into a rooster and wakes him right the fuck up because he's bored

jaskier turning into a horse to talk shit about geralt with roach. they keep neighing and whinnying together and geralt gets progressively more and more annoyed. he will not tell geralt what was said

he and lambert need to cross a fast-moving river and the bridge is broken. jaskier, the little shit, turns into a fish and swims easily across. lambert has to figure out how to cross on his own

Jaskier was a gorgeous cock, if he did say so himself. Of course he didn't have to say it himself all that often. Everyone else was happy to do it for him. There were many things to compliment him on: his exceptionally red coxcomb, the extraordinary size of his tail feathers and, of course his pride and joy - his voice.

There was no rooster who crowed quite as loudly or melodiously and knew how to wake the hens and other animals as well as Jaskier. He was, quite objectively, the most perfect and desirable rooster around.

The thing was, Jaskier himself was not objective in his judgment. Because as confident as he was, there was one rooster he would consider more perfect than himself.

Sure, his coxcomb wasn't colorful at all. In fact, all of his feathers were a milky white.

And yes, maybe his tail feathers looked like a cat had taken a bite or two out of them.

And alright, Jaskier could admit that the one time he had heard this other rooster utter a crow, it had been croaky and not at all impressive. That didn't change the fact that Jaskier dearly wished to hear it again.

He only feared that he wouldn't get much chance to do so. This new rooster had only arrived at Jaskier's farm the day before and the hens had already started hacking at him, ruffling their feathers to chase him away. The white rooster had scraped the ground with his claws - longer and sharper than any Jaskier had seen before - but he hadn't made a move to attack any of the hens to defend himself. And, well, Jaskier had been intrigued. At the beginning it had been nothing more than a little interest. Who was this rooster who was so very different from him?

But then, things had changed. The other chickens had taken notice of Jaskier's refusal to help chase the white rooster away and consequently, they had turned against him. Jaskier wasn't used to beaks hacking at him or claws trying to scratch his gorgeous plumage.

He hadn't known what to do.

The white rooster, however, did. He had fluttered his wings and flew to Jaskier, landing in front of him.

And he had crowed. The silent rooster had actually opened his beak just to defend Jaskier. And once the hens had fluttered away, the white rooster had picked up a beakful of grain and dropped it somewhat close to Jaskier, before simply turning away. When Jaskier had hopped after him, the white rooster had snapped at him. Clearly, trying to get close to him wasn't a good idea and would come with all sorts of dangers and unpleasantries.

Now, Jaskier was an exceptional rooster, but he was no chicken. He would do whatever it took to get to know the white rooster, who had stood so bravely in front of him.

Sleepless Nights

The first sleepless night you spent with Geralt was when he stumbled into your cottage looking worse for wear. Not to mention the fever that was making him miserable, he did not have it in him to argue with you as you helped inside and began tending to him, doing your best to make sure he would heal as quickly as possible.

His distrustful eyes followed you around as you made the potions and teas necessary to help him, and even went as far as give a drink of each to prove to him it wasn't poison.

You were a healer that worked with plants and knew best what to make to help with common illnesses and some poisons. But Geralt did not know you yet, so you understood his worry. Fortunately, he came to trust you after you had spent the night at his side, putting cold wet rags on his forehead and body to help him cool.

The next morning, once the fever had broken, he had tried to pay you, but you would not hear of it. You had offered your help for free and would not charge him for this one time.

That was how you two became friends.

The second sleepless night you spent with Geralt, was when he was traveling with Jaskier.

Oh, the bard was charming and talented, but you rebuffed his advances and offered him a bed for him to sleep after dinner. You and Geralt had remained at the table, wine on hand and simply speaking quietly to each other of the things you both had seen and done.

You did not realize how fast time passed until you heard your rooster greet the sun. But you did not mind at all, Geralt was great company once you got to know him, and considering he had become a friend after you had healed him, he was.

The day they left, you sent him off with bundles of herbs and teas in case they were necessary for healing. Geralt thanked you quietly and Jaskier made a show of kissing your hand.

You waved them off and told them to come back whenever.

The third sleepless night you spent with Geralt was another emergency. Fortunately or unfortunately, this time was Jaskier who needed help.

According to Geralt, the bard had pissed off someone who had somehow managed to hurt him when Geralt was busy with purchasing food and traveling equipment. So, once again, you slipped easily into healer mode and did your absolute best to make sure Jaskier did not died.

Even if Geralt denied it, the bard was his friend and you knew that he would be upset should Jaskier were to die. That whole lie about Witchers having no feelings was just that, a lie. One that you understood why people believed and Witchers did their best not to dispel, it's easy to hurt someone by hurting those they care for.

Luckily, Jaskier pulled through and this time, Geralt did paid you... by hiding a few gold coins among your jars for you to discover after they were gone.

The fourth sleepless night you spent with Geralt was when he finally admitted to have trouble sleeping.

That had brought you into a halth, you usually did not have to deal with something as bad sleeplessness as Geralt's before. Usually, your tea blend for sleep was enough, but it did nothing for Geralt.

So, you had spent a whole night trying different mixes and quantities to help him. You could not have him be unable to sleep under your roof, so even if you did not find the cure that night, you vowed to him and yourself to find the solution and make him a special blend for him to sleep.

Geralt had smiled at your determination and said, "And that's why I trust and care for you."

And you knew how precious both were.

The fifth sleepless night you spent with Geralt, was the day you had met Ciri.

The Princess was tired, but you sensed the anger boiling beneath the surface, but you knew that if anyone could be able to handle her, it would be Geralt. He was already in full papa bear mode and it amused you seeing him so, after all, this man had not wanted his child surprise and yet, you were sure anyone who so much even looked at Ciri wrong, they would meet with Geralt's sword.

After dinner, and sending Ciri to bed, you two spoke about everything once more. Made plans to make sure that Ciri would be safe and you had promised that she would always have a house and home in your cottage should Ciri ever need it.

Geralt had been thankful, and on a moment of impulse, had invited you to Kaer Morhen to meet his fellow Witchers.

You accepted with a smile knowing how rare this gift was.

It was in Kaer Morhen, after dinner and when most Witchers had gone to their bed, that Geralt had asked if you two could talk. You accepted, why wouldn't you?

In the privacy of his room, you two spoke of the future of things to do and how you would be safe in an ever growing unsafe world. He invited you to remain at Kaer Morhen. "I already spoke with Vesemir about it, he would welcome your expertice in healing." Then, he licked his lips and quickly looked away. "I would feel much better too, knowing that you are protected."

You smiled at him and cupped his cheek, "Then, I'll stay. Everything I have in my cottage can be replaced, and I already brought my most precious things. Perhaps I could go back only for my books, but I would stay." You took a deep breath, "There's something that feels right about it."

Geralt smiled with relief. "Good, then, there is something else I must admit." You looked at him and waited. "That I have fallen in love with you."

Your heart jumped to your throat and your hands shook, you were attracted to him. Possibly loved him too, but you had resigned yourself to simple friendship. "I love you too," your voice was breathless when you admitted it.

Geralt leaned downwards and gently took you in his arms and kissed you.

That was the first night you two slept in each other's arms.

“Okay, I have to give that to him,” Fiebron says to Arnolf, who smacks him. “Seriously, witcher, we’re just curious. We knew Jaskier when he was fifteen and stupid.”

“Now he’s twenty-five and stupid,” the witcher replies. “Go away.”

“What’s your horse’s name?” Arnolf asks.

“Roach,” says the witcher. “Go away.”

“Why’d you name her that?”

“Felt like it. Go away.”

“Why’d—”

“Go away.”

“Fine, fine, whatever,” Fiebron sighs. “Guess we can go torture it out of Jaskier.”

A fist slams into the wall in front of his face, and he shrieks. Geralt is now looming over him, glaring like he means it. Arnolf is the only thing stopping Fiebron from wilting into the hay.

“If you touch my bard, I will have your skin on a clothesline within the hour,” he growls.

Fiebron and Arnolf are two ocs of mine for this fic! They’re bards who were Jaskier’s old classmates and they have absolutely zero braincells. To use another quote from Jaskier later in the fic, “those two couldn’t harm a fruit fly if you have them a sledgehammer.” if you want to know more about them feel free to ask!!

“Go to sleep, Jaskier.”

“Oh,” Jaskier says surprisedly. “I thought, you know, since you’re angry with me and all, that you’d be chomping at the bit to get me up before the roosters and get back on the road.”

Geralt doesn’t open his eyes. “Don’t be stupid.”

“Right,” Jaskier whispers, and Geralt can hear him shuffling to get comfortable, still on his back. Just when he thinks the bard has drifted off, he pipes up again: “Which part was stupid, exactly?”

“Hm,” Geralt says, and then, “the part where I’m angry with you.”

Jaskier is silent, and Geralt’s cursing himself, and then Jaskier’s face is shoved into his neck, his body pressed up to Geralt’s. It’s an awkwardly sideways attempt at a hug, but Jaskier smells relieved and tired and something else, and—

He’s rolling away again, suddenly, as though Geralt’s touch burned him, as though Geralt’s touch contains the same violence as the princess’s outburst at dinner. Geralt wants, desperately, to reach over and pull him back, but he forces himself to stillness and does his very best to ignore the sound of Jaskier’s heart, beating within arms’ reach, racing away but never gaining any distance.

In the morning they wake up tangled up in each other’s limbs, as they both knew they would. Jaskier, spitting Geralt’s hair out of his mouth, is brushing his own out of his face as he sits up, not quite blocking the sunbeams from spearing directly into Geralt’s eyes. They don’t talk about the previous night. Roach is mocking him as they disembark, but Geralt ignores her, and ignores her even harder when Jaskier offers her an apple.

He also ignores how he starts craving Jaskier’s touch after that night. Hopefully it will go away.

(It doesn’t.)

“You should know better than to run off without telling me,” she scolds.

“Bye Mister Witcher! Bye Mister Jaskier!” she yells over her mother’s shoulder. “I love your horse! And your hair flowers!”

Jaskier waves, and Geralt looks extremely disgruntled.

“Mama, put me down,” she demands. “I can walk on my own.”

“I don’t want you getting hurt,” her mother sighs, setting her down. “You shouldn’t walk up to strangers in the street like that, honey. Especially not witchers.”

“But he was nice,” she protests. “His husband was putting flowers in his hair! He let me pet his horse!”

“His… husband?”

“The man who writes all of the songs about him!” Marcy doesn’t understand the big deal about the witcher having a husband. She’d figured her mother, who has a husband herself, would understand the decision.

First Fandom of 2022: Started things off in The Witcher fandom (read: shirtless bard) and about halfway through the month got taken by the hand throat and led into a beautiful magical trash bin, filled to the brim with all my fave badwrong kind of content and an awful lot of Brock Rumlow putting The Winter Soldier on his knees tbh 😅

Favorite Main Character of 2022: I uh… I’m gonna go ahead and say it’s Rooster. I was absolutely goddamn blindsided by Top Gun: Maverick, I gotta say. I was NOT expecting to have a super intense two month summer love affair with fucking Miles Teller and Tom Cruise haha

Favorite Villain of 2022: This isn’t even a question, it’s Brock Rumlow in the year of our lord 2022 somehow. 

Favorite M/F Couple of 2022: Layla and her boys, Marc & Steven. Honourable mention to all those thoughts of Bob getting pegged to absolute obliteration by Phoenix.

Fandom That Made An Unexpected Comeback: Did someone say CASSIAN ANDOR?? Like holy shit, where did that come from? Having spent most of the night up with Jaskier, who’s struggling with a head-cold now that winter is well and truly upon them, Geralt has less patience than he usually does. He pokes at his eggs a little more violently than he should, and bristles when the rooster crows loudly from the yard. Eskel has always been the patient one, and Geralt was sent downstairs after smacking Jaskier a little too hard for pulling his hair, leaving Eskel upstairs to rub salve on the pup’s bottom.

When Lambert knocks over Geralt’s coffee for the second time, he loses it.

What do I take requests for?

-Headcanons

-One shots/imagines

-all will be done in either a 3rd person style if the reader is not included in the story or in x reader style

What will I NOT write?

-romantic relationships in which it’s character x reader x character, only exceptions are the he ones I have listed under “Poly Relationship Pairings”. I just struggle with these sometimes because the characters don’t mesh well in my writing style so I try to keep it to ones I know I can do well.

-Male reader, I never want to put out anything that is less than my best or that I am unhappy with and knowing that I struggle to write from a males perspective I unfortunately do not accept request for this

-smut, I am very new to writing smut, it is something I am growing on and I really have to be in the right headspace to write it

- heavy topics. A lot of my writing does include heavier topics, that being said I chose to write about them and I was always in the headspace to write them. These topics include things like death of family, sexual violence and harassment, self harm etc. a good rule of thumb is that if you think it may be a heavy topic probably do not request it, but you are always welcome to ask to make sure

- Multiple part requests, I do not take requests for multiple part works. This means that you cannot ask for your request to be multiple parts. However if I choose to I may do a second part to one shots.

What should you do when requesting?

-Please include if you’re wanting a head cannon or a short one shot about it

(A one shot will be written more like a Cohesive storyline, a head cannon will be more like bullet points and my thoughts on the topic chosen)

-Please be descriptive in what you are wanting,

For example:

“Anakin and comforting the reader”

Is very vague and can be difficult to fulfill because I want to make sure I am giving you what you want. So:

“Anakin comforting the reader after she’s had a nightmare about to Jedi trials”

Is much easier to fulfill
