When I moved back in with my mother, over a year ago, I knew to expect a mild measure of criticism and smart comments from her about my weight. Not only did she deliver on said expectations, today she went above and beyond.

She came to get me out of bed, close to 10pm, to show me her Facebook feed and said “Someone took your video!”

On her glass I was seeing a woman about my height and 240-260lbs, shadow-boxing in what looked like a makeshift home somewhere in Central or South America.

The lady was killing those drills, and holding my irritation in hopes that my mother would clear herself of shaming me for my build, I asked “huh” and “what” in Spanish at least once.

She only kept replaying the video and I stared at her directly when I asked “Why are you saying that’s my video?”

“Isn’t it you?”

“What about the video is mine? Or in what location would I have been in to take that video?”

We live in the suburbs in the South. The woman in the video very tan, when I’m closer to the complexion of Elijah Wood.

The need to feel better about herself by insulting me is real determination.

How acidic-ly stupid must she be?

Even in a potential moment of dementia, it’s a need of life to see and define her daughter as less-than.

What sickens me is that if or when I attained overall fitness, I wouldn’t want her to see me or talk to me again. A compliment from her would just be a jab with a smirk.

She’s been buying me clothes lately, for someone 50 pounds heavier and makes sure to tell me each one is XXXL as she hands them to me and informs me they stretch.

The miserable bitterness and regret she drowns in is deserved. I wish it wasn’t true, but it is.

I’d wish her healing and happiness, but only to not hear another remark or receive clothes as joke and reminder to herself that she is in fact measurably smaller than I am.

When I reach the stars I hope she cannot claim any credit of my art or labor, because she didn’t raise me either.

Sick for a week and softening my heart to ask help to care for me… An opportunity of healing to the inner child she bullied, burdened, then abandoned. To be stomped through with her vile stupidity or cruel humor.

I wish I wasn’t hurt.

And although I’ll force myself to brush it off by tomorrow, for tonight, I am suddenly six again, being told I’m fat and should stop eating. Reprimanded to remember what the dietician said at the clinic, even though she never cooked healthier for me. Instead just withholding any sweets she gave to my younger brother and sister.

Anyway, I love little me. And teenage me was a badass. Marriage me was exactly what she needed to be. And in my new identity, I’m not at war with food or my emotions.

Love in me to me, unconditional and not dependent on my appearance.

This week we focus on rebuilding and reinventing ourselves.

Whether you have come out of a difficult relationship where you have changed so much to please the other person you don't know who you are anymore, or because you realise you are stuck in a rut and life is passing you by. During these difficult times many people have lost their jobs and their self confidence has hltalen a massive knock. Maybe you are one of those people who love constant change, pushing yourself, growing and trying something new all the time.

What ever the reason, we can not dwell or live in the past, wallow in self pity or blame someone else for the circumstances in our lives. If you want a better of different life, it is up to you to make the change.

By changing the view of what happened to you in the past, putting a different perspective on it or taking the lessons learned and empowering yourself to move forward, you have already taken the first step to rebuilding and reinventing yourself.

By changing the way you think about the past you have already changed your present and your future.

Let go of what no longer serves you. To quote another great woman:
