Hello everyone! This week I am having a small celebration for my 100 followers objective and I have decided to post a small update regarding my future plans for my bookstagram. I am testing different photo presets and shooting style and In the future I will probably change it once in a while as I love taking photos and trying new things. 💖 A Little Life will also be one of the books I will read in March as soon as I finish rereading ACOTR and I will be back to the series ASAP as I have set my goal to reread all SJM series (I know, crazy). After a few tests I have decided to stay with this style and see where it goes. “A “strange” child, anyway, dimly and fearfully apprehends that the years are not likely to make him less strange” “The children of the despised and rejected are menaced from the moment they stir in the womb, and are therefore sacred in a way that the children of the saved are not” For this review, I want to make it clear that I couldn’t finish this book. James Baldwin is one of my favorite black writers, but this essay narrative didn’t retain my interest. In the beginning, Baldwin briefly describes his home life which intrigued me-how his father deemed him the ugliest boy in the world, how he was introduced to literature and cinema by a caring white schoolteacher named Bill Miller (a woman). I enjoyed reading how earlier of an age he was exposed to literature and cinema, even wrestling with the question of what it meant to be black. Baldwin references novels (“A Tale Of Two Cities” and “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” as well as dated movies that I couldn’t follow. 2023 Reading Challenge

This year I want to read 100 books! I never have time to read, between my work commitments, my run training, my ghost-writing, my personal writing and my house-keeping, but this year I’m finding the minutes in between commitments to burrow into a story.

My friend asked me in rereads count.

I count everything. Reading is for experiencing worlds inside your head. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been there before.

This year I plan to reread The Six of Crows, Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. I’m reading a lot of heavy novels like 파친코 and In Cold Blood, so it’s nice to go somewhere familiar in between.

Besides, the reading challenge is for me. I set my own rules for it. I’m reading what I want whenever I can.

🤍Hello friends! 🤍 I read this beauty a couple of days ago and I am so in love with the Brown Sisters! 😍 they are so raw and real! (SPOILERS FROM HERE) In the first book, I really resonated with Eve because of her chronic pain. I also suffer from chronic pain and it actually felt really nice to see that portrayed in a character! In this book, though I felt a stronger connection with Zaf. His struggles with his family's death and trying to respect Dani’s wishes about it not becoming a full-blown relationship! “For once, little Micah Strauss was peeking out of his bubble and seeing the world as it was, and I wanted more, and I wanted immediacy, and I wanted it to never, ever, end” Finished this fast paced novel by @bkonigsberg . The story introduces Micah Strauss-a mild mannered boy who runs into energetic and proud CJ in a club. Afterwards, Micah begins to change as he introduced to CJ’s glittering lifestyle that everyone else deems unfit. I felt the book was too fast paced. There’s not very much world building, but enough for me to imagine the main details. The story didn’t really dive too much into Micah’s life and his libertarian parents. Micah didn’t have many introspective moments save for him lying on the bedroom floor and listening to CJ’s music choice. However, his fear of Aids/HIV and his self loathing because of his fear was well written, especially when in a relationship with CJ. I did appreciate how CJ’s life wasn’t dramatized as something immoral and that he should change his ways. An exotic dancer and a record enthusiast, he is multifaceted in his personality and can even become somber and real underneath all the glitter. His relationship with his stepfather could’ve had more potential if it were explored more throughly.
