I'm reading Queering your Craft by Cassandra Eason, and the book says that one of the cultural symbols of queerness is cold brew instead of hot coffee? Can anyone explain why???

i’ve been trying to craft all my xmas presents this year and i thought it could be cute to share some here as i go…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
first up, i made my friend this cute lil alien buddy. i made it by using florist wire to create a skeleton of the body, then covered it in tin foil to bulk him up and then covered the tin foil in masking tape to keep it together. after that, i used polymer clay for the head and felt for the body. i used acrylic paint on the face and acrylic yarn for the hair and used some fabric scraps to make lil clothes :))

reading peer essays about diversity and shit and i feel so conflicted ugh
because the person is like "i like diversity but diversity needs to be on good merit they should be diverse because they bring their cultural impact and not just for the sake of it"
like sure i agree that when we include pocs or minorities they should have proper representation and be given the same respect and character development as their cis white male counterparts BUT why can't we have diverse characters for the sake of ittttt. why is the default character always white why do they get to be all over the story but diverse characters need to fight there way in.
why do we need to wait around for more diverse characters in the hopes that someone will do it right, i just want them to be there for of all
like why is white people and elves and orcs and dragons okay but suddenly black people is breaking the narrative?

[image description: an sac webcomic page. “you’re good sweetie, we’re just hanging out!” smiles the woman in the hijab, who waves, and the man in the leather jacket next to her raises an eyebrow and smirks, saying “oh hey, you on babysitting duty?” “hey, i’m older than her!” exclaims lewis, glaring with slit pupils. “oh, this is my new teamate! i’m training him! everyone, this is howler, he broke wraiths arm, but don’t spread that around.” smiles jade, putting a arm around him. “oh shit really? i heard he blamed that all on you.” the same woman replies, off screen. “urgh, of course he did. probably to make him look less pathetic, long story.” “well howler, fantastic to meet you. the name’s moon striker, my pronouns are she/her and i’m team captain for us four.” the same woman, now introduced as moon striker, greets. “this is my boyfriend, terra flora, he/him.” the man in the leather jacker, terra flora grins and shoots two fingerguns. “his girlfriend stardust, she/her, and their partner split second”. stardust, the woman with the blue ribbons, smiles and waves, her fingers purple and glowing with sparkles and glittery dust. “i mostly stick to he/they/she but i’m partial to fae/faer pronouns. feel free to use whatever though, all’s chill” states split second, the person with the eye patch, with a blank expression on faer face, tilting his head a bit. end id]
moon striker and her team have been briefly mentioned once before in comic, back in early chapter 3 page 23, when rami was infodumping and speculating who would win in a fight
i dont have any witty comments to make because its 1:41am rn and i gotta get up early for a doctors appointment because i dont do my t shots myself and i havent bothered to ask bc i know i dont have the will to do so, so i got to go in and a nurse does it. but im on holiday off work so at least i can go home and take a nap after. annoying that my clinic is in another town though

Wanna know how big of a nerd I am? I was talking with this person, and at first I didn't think anything in particular about them. But the moment they started talking about their investigation on camp aesthetic in latin american literature, I swear to you I transformed into a giggling, blushing mess. Twirling my hair, kicking my feet and thinking to myself "damn, this is the sexiest person in the room".

I mean. I do think its weird that some ppl are so eager and willing to switch their old make up out with "cruelty free" make up but then. Not consider doing that with food in any capacity. And its hard not to feel like some ppl have been convicned vegan food is cringe and that since vegans are cringe all around that everything we do and eat is also cringe. Like yall reaaaallly want to divorce animal rights from veganism and thats an impossible task. Vegans will always be part of animal welfare one way or another. Who do you think fights for cruelty free make up in the first place? Ig if you divorce them in your mind you get to pretend the two movements are entirely seperate and you're not like those Loud Cringe Vegans or whatever lmao. Like. Okay cassandra. I kinda have a feeling a good majority of the people involved in pushing cruelty free make up are vegan. Idk why substituting your meat every now and then is so fuckin hard (if you can do it) if not for how ppl react to vegan food as if its cringe. And taste to me isnt a good enough excuse bc theres a lot of vegan food that tastes good. It feels like you just like the taste of something familiar.
#i promise its a lot better than you think it is#is it exactly like meat? no. but meat doesnt have to be the main protien in every fuckin thing#sometimes a nicely crafter veggie patty os enough#crafted*#anyways theres a bunch of vegans in my motes now bc of an old post of mine#so thats why i was thinkin abt this#🙄 and no i dont think theres some way to sus out who can and cant eat meat. i think people know when they can or cant and just wanna lie#to themselves when they can so they can keep eating the tasty tasty meat.#like. you know who you are. i dont need to make you vegan bc clearly you already feel guilty enough to lie to urself 🥴#i dont believe in Legislating Some Way To Detect Who Is And Isnt Vegan Possibly By Evaluating Their Medical History or some crap.#but ik yall gotta assume the worst from vegans so.#like why would i legislate anything. ppl who eat meat and can eat other things tend to feel guilt regardless. i dont have to do shit lol.#its all on you and whether or not you wanna keep feeling that way or if you wanna be an edgy diseffected douchebag whos just. so above#doing anything or caring about the world in any capacity bc no ethical consumption so it doesnt matter what you do or at least#you dont care so you toss your cigarette butss in the woods.#thats always gonna be my go to bc if you ever get to that point then ik that you're just a nihilist tool and i dont want to be around you.#to detect who can and cant be vegan* is a better way to phrase that#like god dude you're so cool and subversive with your combat boots that every other queer leftist has and cigarette butts you dont#care about flicking in every which way. like. ur just so coold dude. so so cool. fer sure#didnt mean cold but you're also cold hearted so thats applicable.#the fact this is a stereotype in the queer community to me should tell you enough about how subversive you think you are.#cant emphasize enough that this isnt about people who cant be vegan bc they biologically need to eat meat or theyre poor#this is about ppl who can go vegan. have the funds. have no health condjtions. knows internally that they can. but chooses not to#in spite of trying to consume ethically in other forms. like some of yall will buy cruelty free make up. buy ethically sourced clothes.#but for some reason when it comes to food you act SO fucking weird about it. its truly hard not to feel like its not bc of the narrative#around vegans. and no! i cant tell who can actually go vegan and is lying and who cant! i dont care about investing that much energy into#controlling other people!! they know when they can and they know when theyre lying to themselves and others! i dont gotta do shit!#idgaf!!!#imma let the guilt about their actions do the work my dude#and to the person reading this going 'i dont feel guilty' im sure the fuck you dont! you edgy totally different person from the rest!!!

So the leader of the library craft club I joined told us today she wrote for Gay Community News back in the day?! Like going to work there was why she came to Boston in the first place!?!
She talked about how it was a big deal at the time that they had both lesbians and gay men writers because the communities has been so separate. And about receiving death threats with her own name on them and still being the one who went to rallies and events to hand out the papers! Earlier in that same meeting the youngest member (Surprise, it's not me!) had shown us the pride flag she had painted at a Michael's workshop!!
If you guys really want to meet queer elders, a bunch of them are in online zoom clubs now a days! (And if you're anxious/rusty like me, one of the best non-pushy leading questions you can ask them is why they came to live where they did!) I am once again begging you guys to join clubs!!!

why does it even matter what i would have to say about something that has nothing to do with me, that my opinion or actions do nothing to change? why does it matter who i support or dont, if i dont bother with either side at all? why is it the end of the world to you that im staying out of it? why am i "supporting the oppressors" by not talking about it.
what in the actual world would anything i do change? why should i tune in when all it does is make me miserable, and change none of whats happening there at all? why should i stay informed when it doesnt help anyone being hurt?

Sources for Somerton's Plagiarism from Hbomberguy's Video (as much as I could get)
I went back through Harry's video, focused entirely on the sources James Somerton pulled from in the hopes of creating as much of a comprehensive list as I could--though my Google-Fu is not very strong. I did however find something I thought was forever lost and that made me very happy--specifically the magazine Midlands Zone containing the column by Steven Spinks that Harry poignantly used as an illustration of gay erasure... while Somerton uses it to sound like HE is waxing remorseful about the very subject.
This is not a complete list, I'm sure. For one thing, I was only able to attempt to pull sources that Harry himself mentioned in the video. Surely there's so very much more out there. I expect there to be a great deal more internet archeology to unearth just how much writing and culture Somerton has stolen like he's the British Museum of Natural History but for gay people.

Harry's list of mentioned youtubers:
Alexander Avila - https://www.youtube.com/@alexander_avila Matt Baume - https://www.youtube.com/@MattBaume Khadija Mbowe - https://www.youtube.com/@KhadijaMbowe Lady Emily - https://www.youtube.com/@LadyEmilyPresents Shanspeare - https://www.youtube.com/@Shanspeare RickiHirsch - https://www.youtube.com/@RickiHirsch VerilyBitchie - https://www.youtube.com/@verilybitchie
Harry created a convenient playlist of videos by these and other people he wants to bring to everyone's attention.
Please give them your support.

Midlands Zone Magazine - Column by Steven Spinks
After a great deal of searching, I found an archive of the "Midlands Zone" magazine, where you can read through past issues dating all the way back to February 2014. I have also found the issue from which Somerton took Spinks' poignant discussion of gay erasure: Overall archive Specific Issue - Pages 16-17
It will not allow you to download it, but you can read it exactly as it appeared in print form.

I refrained from including certain sources.
First off only focusing on Somerton's work.
Secondly not including anything that might be visible enough to not require amplifying their voice (I cannot speak for all of those I have found links to, but journalism is frequently a thankless job).
Thirdly any source that is of a nature that is antithetical to the very existence of the queer community, such as the right-leaning source that didn't make it into Somerton's video, but Harry was able to identify as a source he had considered using.
If you feel I have missed a mentioned source--or you know of a source from material that was not covered in Harry's video--please do not hesitate to reblog with added details.

Please share this information far and wide, and please add to it if you find more material that can be positively identified and linked to the creator/writer.
