i understand the appeal of publishing "fic with the serial numbers filed off" as original work but i also feel like. what makes something a good fic is at odds with what makes something a good original story.

#I've legit thought of turning fics into original works #but i always hit this problem. my best fics only work bc they are interacting with a pre-existing set of rules #and they're good bc of how it navigates the reader's knowledge of the characters and story #i have one fic in progress that COULD be a book...but only bc it's almost entirely an original workd already #and at that point i should maybe just write a book wwww

anyone else finding that Tumblr is being a little weird? Specifically about filtering a searched tag by "Latest" and having the results extremely limited?

I think something the fandom gets a bit confused by is that the songs we hear in Alien Stage aren't always a perfect recreation of what the characters are singing.

Some, like "My Clematis" and "Til the End", are probably pretty literal depictions. But we can basically take it as fact that Ivan did not actually perform "Black Sorrow" on stage, because that song is a solo and we see his opponent singing during their round. Ivan had no foul play, there was no sabotaging of his opponent like Till—we just don't hear the song they actually sang together.

I bring this up only because I've seen people theorizing about whether the songs performed on Alien Stage were written by the staff or by the characters, and acknowledging this really shifts that conversation.

#Luka might not have written ROMH to manipulate Mizi. Ivan probably didn't write Black Sorrow. #Both songs are merely narrative devices meant to convey what the characters are thinking about and feeling #and we can only make guesses as to how much is literal and how much is artistic interpretation #personally I think Till's the only one who wrote his own song...but I could be wrong! #alien stage #analysis #alnst

i made a character sheet. free to use as you wish, feel free to change whatever you want XD open source ass thing. spent all of ~maybe an hour on it.

Credit: the text in the insert-image box comes from this video, and the text for the top three lines (intense, complex, fruity) comes from this post. The actual image was made with the free NBOS character sheet creator, which is a sort of dated but free and solid text-layout sheet maker intended for ttrpg style character sheet creation.
