genuinely one of the saddest parts of this new era of the internet is how hard it is to rick roll someone now. with people's attention spans shortening so much, they wouldn't even get through the first few bait seconds before clicking off the video. like i saw a comment that ended with "btw i made all of this up" and the replies kept treating it so seriously because none of them finished the entire 4 sentence comment. and We're no strangers to love You know the rules and so do I (do I) A full commitment's what I'm thinking of You wouldn't get this from any other guy I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling Gotta make you understand Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

grabbing new writers by the shoulders. it is important to write what you love and to love what you write. if you spend all your time trying to make something other people will approve of you will hate yourself and everything around you. learn at your own pace. you have time. i’m proud of you

If you’ve ever wondered how reposting hurts artists- yesterday I found a post from 2012ish featuring one of my Sherlock/Doctor Who pieces. That post had 17,604 notes. It wasn’t my post. My post of that art had 0 notes.
Apparently I saw the post once when it was at 6k because an artist I admired reblogged it, but at that stage I was very unwell & not experienced enough with Tumblr to realise what effect it might have.
Looking through the notes now I see that in the six years since then-
Several people got the design as a tattoo.
A number liked it enough to want custom designs but didn’t know how to contact me so that’s approximately £300 I didn’t get a chance to earn.
Someone used that art in the front cover of a comic by accident and while the company fixed it after I contacted them that’s exposure that it’s far too late to capitalise on now.
If you like an artwork that you find off tumblr, please, please I am begging you search for the artist’s name and see if they do actually have a Tumblr you could reblogged from instead. If you’re an artist search your username(s) every so often to see if your work has been taken.
A few hundred quid might not seem like a lot, but that’s a few months of income for me

AHHHH BOOKS OF OURS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE QUEER LIBERATION LIBRARY ( @queerliblib ) I AM SO EXCITED.
Tumblr media
If you don't know what the QLL is this is a great chance to find out!! They're an online library of hand-curated queer e-books with really awesome range (non-fiction! fiction! many genres and disciplines!), and they keep growing! Anyone in the US can become a member FOR FREE. From their webpage: Queer Liberation Library (QLL) is fighting to build a vibrant, flourishing queer future by connecting LGBTQ+ people with literature, information, and resources that celebrate the unique and empowering diversity of our community.
They're also a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, and completely funded by donations (we donate a pittance monthly, I wish we could do more).
I HIGHLY recommend you go to their webpage here to find out more, and you can follow their tumblr (tagged above) too!
And if you didn't know - all our published anthologies to-date are available through multiple library apps, including Libby (if selected by the library) and Hoopla (should be available to all libraries with Hoopla subscriptions). So even if you aren't a member of QLL, you might want to check your local library e-book system to see if you can read our books. Titles potentially available at your library include our anthologies Add Magic to Taste, She Wears the Midnight Crown, He Bears the Cape of Stars, Aim For The Heart: Queer Fanworks Inspired by Alexandre Dumas's "The Three Musketeers" and And Seek (Not) to Alter Me: Queer Fanworks Inspired by Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing," and our stand-alone titles To Drive the Hundred Miles by Alec J. Marsh and Many Drops Make a Stream by Adrian Harley. There's more on the way, too, so be on the lookout.

Not socialist in a “I won’t have to work” type of way but socialist in a “I’ll still be working but I won’t be worried I won’t make the rent” type of way. In a “billions won’t be hoarded by one person” type of way. In a “janitors, fast-food workers, child care workers, preschool teachers, hotel clerks, personal care and home health aides, and grocery store cashiers, will live comfortably” type of way. In a “the sick and elderly will be cared for” type of way. In a “no child should work” type of way.

if elves lived in modern america they would be rednecks im sorry but it's true. imagine you meet a tall guy who's always in a baseball cap and driving around in his truck and learn that he's a crack shot with a rifle, like insanely good. okay that's pretty cool i guess. but it starts to get weird cuz he's so good at identifying edible plants that he practically survives off of berries and wild game and his mom's homemade bread which is the absolute best stuff you've ever tasted in your life. his truck, which he tells you he essentially built himself with the amount of repair and replacement work he put into it, is either insanely well-built or insanely lucky, and drives right on through snowdrifts and mud pits and potholes like they're nothing. the first time he tries to take you on a hike he drags you uphill for two straight hours with a cheery smile on his face and seems genuinely surprised when you're worn out at the top. sometimes when you're out in the woods his head turns around at what you swear is literally nothing and he's like "oh yeah there's deer 'round here you can hear 'em. loud as all get-out." when he finally takes off his fluorescent orange snapback and shows you his pointy ears and tells you he's immortal you're just like oh that makes a lot of sense actually

Fun History Fact: The overwhelming majority of cowboys in the U.S. were Indigenous, Black, and/or Mexican persons. The omnipresent white cowboy is a Hollywood studio concoction meant to uphold the mythology of white masculinity.

You had heard about these monsters, seen them on the news as your parents murmured in unease, listened to the teachers whisper in fear whenever they thought the children weren’t listening. Even the other kids spoke about them from time to time at school.
People were terrified of them, understandably so.
No one could ever predict when or where they would show up, and it was only as they witnessed them slowly walking the streets or fields, that they even realised they were there. There was no warning. Between one moment and the next, they would simply appear, often vanishing just as strangely and suddenly as they had come.
You knew you should probably scream for your parents or try to hide out of sight, but peering up at the slowly wandering creature, you just couldn’t find it in you to do so.
Silently, you crept out of your bed and carefully pushed open the sliding door for your little balcony, walking right up to the banister as you peered up at the towering being. Stopping its listless wandering, it slowly walked over to you, carefully bending down until it could see you properly.
It’s eyes were nothing but vacant glowing sockets in its dark skeletal face, and yet somehow, you thought it looked sad, your young heart aching for the terrifying being. For a moment the two of you simply stared at each other in silence, the creature looking at you curiously as you tried to figure out a way to cheer them up, even if only a little.
It wasn’t until your eyes fell on it’s long skeletal fingers, that you came up with an idea.
Reaching up, you carefully pulled your necklace up and over your head, gesturing for the creature to lift up it’s hand. The elastic beaded necklace was something you had made in class a few days ago, and you were rather proud of its shiny little beads, having refused to take it off since, much to your parents frustration.
Once its hand was within reach, you carefully pushed the necklace over one of its long skeletal fingers, beaming happily as it came to rest just before its first knuckle. Smiling brightly up at the creature, you watched as it gingerly touched the necklace, before finally turning it’s attention back to you, its confusion obvious even without the ability to show expressions.
“It’s a friendship brac- uh… Friendship ring! That way you wont feel alone anymore!” You chirped happily in answer to the unasked question.
If it were even possible, you could have sworn the creatures vacant glowing sockets had widened at your words, before the light they gave off suddenly became slightly more gentle. With a low hollow groan that shook the earth around you and set off a few car alarms, it reached out and ever so gently brushed one of its sharp fingers over your head.
Standing up, the creature almost seemed to sigh contentedly, before simply fading away into wisps of dark smoke, taking your necklace along with it.
Still beaming, you hurried back into your warm room and crawled into bed before your parents could catch you up and about, content with your actions. Whilst it was your favourite, you could always ask to make another one when you had craft day again at school, maybe you could even make one that matched the one you had given away!
Either way, you were glad you had given it to them. They seemed to need it more than you did anyway.
Based off of This beautiful piece by Boris Groh

My god my girlies
MY GIRLIES. I am still crying, I am still crying about this. Every day I cry about this.
You bitched so hard about being forced to read 1984 in school when it’s so problematic (tm)
Maybe you should have actually paid attention when you read it
Because all these AI fics
You are LITERALLY MAKING THE GARBAGE NOVELS FROM 1984 that are written by machines
You have literally recreated the worthless soulless machine-made books
Literally,
Literally. Every once in a while it hits me in a fresh wave of disbelief and anger. You have literally created the dystopian book from the dystopian story about why dystopia is bad, and you are passing it around like it’s this amazing thing. I’m crying, I’m crying.
