i feel like The Last Unicorn is a queer allegory in a lot of ways but also a commentary on art

#like okay these tags are going to be spoiler heavy more than likely click at your own risk #gwyn rambles #okay so when Amalthea mourns being the last of her kind and all the rest were driven by The Red Bull into the sea #i feel like that is a pretty clear shoutout to like #artists being pushed into confined and easier and 'safer' places 'for their own good' #like all she wanted was to be with her own only to find out they're gone #the old artists are dying or giving up their craft and the few that remain are paring down their style to try and maintain any audience #which is something i am identifying with #heavily #i'm being pushed to draw daily detail be damned and it's not what i want in the slightest #i want to take my time and create actual art #not something both i and my audience will forget in a day #at most #and it starts out as 'oh it's only an hour a day' #then it two #then it's eight #it's a full time job without the pay or passion and i wind up hating the whole affair and burning out for six months #it's happened before and i'm trying to stop it from happening again #the queer allegory is pretty obvious #you have Amalthea saying she can feel her (human) body dying all around her #then Molly cursing her out asking here where she was when she needed her #the trans vibes are strong #not to mention the implied WLW vibes #especially for the time #it just #it resonates with me in ways that hurt and validate all at once
