#my art #the x files #dana scully #fox mulder #alex krycek #i was talking about this on twitter yesterday but #i have a LOTTTTTT a lot of thought about this part of season two #mainly because i think that while scully probably realized she was never going to find peace ever again after emily #i do believe that the last time mulder ever thought everything would be okay was right before scully’s abduction #which is also kind of why i think mulder was closer to killing himself in ascension than in gethsemane #at the end of season four mulder is kind of resigned to his and scully’s lives unravelling #he’s more suspicious and slower to trust then he ever was #while ascension was the first time he was like. Oh okay. It’s over for us forever and ever #and the fact that he was still open and still kind of okay before that just kind of makes it worse #that he was just betrayed and left hanging and lost everyone he thought he had in one fell swoop #ascension jades the fuck out of him and you can see it. like through the whole series there are threads of it #his tendency to rely on skinner regresses for a while. he becomes even less functional when scully is gone. #he has far less patience for his informants and he refuses to rely on anyone the way he tried to on krycek #like it’s just. such an obvious shift in his character that you can tell his mindset about his and scully’s life has changed #and that’s a huge part of the show’s tragedy i think. ​there is no peace. there is no rest. it’s never going to be okay

Uncovering the mystery of the Captain's death and his actual name, and then Alison finding out about Julian pushing her felt like unlocking the last character in a game, beating every level on impossible, and then not knowing what to do next. It's both satisfying and sad, but such a fun ride I'll remember with fondness.

actually it's kind of funny how people will say Alex's fatal flaw is that he 'doesn't ask for help' and that it's his determination to handle things on his own that leads to his deterioration and eventual death when his whole introduction to the present-day timeline was a very literal cry for help that simply went ignored

#N posts stuff #like even if you think alex was lying throughout the entirety of season 2 and he was waiting from the Moment jay showed up #JUST to kill him (Which again i don't think makes much sense when he could have killed Tim & Jay immediately instead of #breaking Tim's leg. anyway) EVEN IF alex spent that whole time lying it doesn't actually change the fact that he would have at least #been Pretending to Ask For Help and if he wasn't lying then he was Literally Asking For Help and it doesn't Actually matter #what intention Alex had because the text is Ambiguous about Alex's honesty during season two; what isn't ambiguous is the way #other characters (specifically Jay) respond to him; like yeah - S2 Brian/Tim were never in one million years going to help Alex with shit #so sort of any argument that brings up Tim as someone who asks for/offers help is borderline meaningless in this era of the series #Jay had the 'opportunity' to help Alex (and i'll get back to that in a sec) but DIDN'T - Jay wasn't Interested in actually offering Alex #'help' bc Jay is ultimately curious about Answers and 'Offering Help' and 'Getting Answers' are two Wildly conflicting goals #Jay thinks Alex has answers and when Alex doesn't Offer these 'Answers' to Jay on a silver platter Jay gets pissed off and paranoid #and starts Stalking Alex bc he thinks it's 'Suspicious' that Alex won't give him the Answers (that Alex probably doesn't Actually have) #ANYWAY. ultimately this post is about how it's absurd when people argue #that individual character choices could have made a difference in the way this series played out - specifically wrt Alex #because EVERYONE in this WHOLE series are being affected by influences outside of their control ; including Brian Tim and Jay #so it's silly when people are like 'if ALEX had just made a different choice For Himself this could have all been avoided' WRONG. #bc Ultimately there's not really a way to 'help' someone else out of this situation - Tim tried and failed Repeatedly #the comics proved he even failed with Jessica - like MH isn't a horror situation where you can kill the big bad #'getting help' is a meaningless argument - what would successfully helping or getting help even look like? anyway. #the sub argument of this post is that Alex's biggest 'sin' is that he doesn't perform emotions the way other people want him to #like Alex is a character with a kind of flat affect - instead of LOOKING scared or grieved he LOOKS bored or angry #and everyone judges him based on that - so Alex is 'Suspicious' he's 'Lying' he's 'Guilty' but all of these deductions are predicated #on the belief that Alex isn't reacting to his circumstances the way a 'Normal' person would - so it MUST all be an act and so he's guilty #so everyone treats him like he's guilty until the end of season two when he's like 'Fuck it FINE i'll be guilty then' and so it goes #not a self-fulfilled prophecy but being Cornered Into a prophecy and then Blamed for it - SAD. anyway

feeling a little hopeful (and very terrified) for Loki ep 6. Luckily this season they didn’t play into the Sylkie romance, and so I’m optimistic loki and sylvie wont be made endgame in the last episode. Ofc writers might completely switch it up and make them confess secret feelings or make them kiss (pray this doesn’t happen) and in that case I will prolly not watch the hypothetical S3 bc ITS BASICALLY SELF-INCEST!! Did you see that Hela is going to be in “What If…?“ season 2?

I did! I was excited for about 0.00003 seconds before I remembered this is marvel and anything meaningful about her character to me will be botched, ignored, or retconned into her being "1000% irredeemable villain who killed people for fun." There is a depth to Hela that What if won't care about because What If is not where you go for meaningful explorations of characters.

#this is also probably heavily influenced by the fact that I as a human didn't like the first season #and had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the end #the animation was beautiful and I loved the serial killer episode #but the entire series made me grit my teeth and scream into the void #answered #anti what if...?

How I'm Navigating 2024 (Blorbo Edition)

I'm a big believer in the quality of life being vastly improved by the anticipation of good things to come (concerts, movies, anniversaries, hang-out sessions, etc.), so I like mapping out what I'm excited for.

And in terms of queer media, I'm pretty well sorted for the year. \:D/

Right now, I have these two:

quick note as someone who's experienced something very similar in another fandoms: whether you hate the cheating plotline or not, it's difficult to say it's ooc. especially for Seb, because we've seen a lot less of him than we have Big Red.

I think it was ooc for how it seemed the characters were going. but really, a lot of their personalities (especially Seb, again) were created by the fandom.

the similar experience I had is that we found out a character, who was engaged, was married from years prior and never divorced the spouse or told the current partner. so many people were outraged about how ooc it was, but some people reminded the fandom - we don't actually know that much about him. and what we do know matches with this

like I said, I don't care if you like the storyline or not. and for the way I personally view the characters, I think the kiss itself was ooc but the way they dealt with it was not (the guilt and ignoring it). but truly, we've created images of these characters in the fandom that are just that - in the fandom. I like those images, but we can't base the characters' standard off that :)

still thinking about shiv trying to blackmail with zero leverage (and being so shiv-ly sure she didn't need any... girl) the one person on this show sociopathic enough to live consistently by gerri's maxim (how does this serve my interests); and also, relatedly, the fact that the conversation greg and shiv had, in which he asked "what's in it for me" and she said "nothing," is essentially the same as the conversation greg and tom had at the top of the episode, and i am really wondering if tom's refusal to settle that question for greg yet is going to become relevant sometime in the final two episodes, the way that shiv's refusal to settle that question for tom became extremely relevant in the finale of season 3
