My problem is that some Harry Potter fan fiction is arguably better than the Harry Potter series, but no Pride and Prejudice fan fiction is better than Pride and Prejudice.

I just stumbled across another Darcy Has Amnesia and Has Been Living as a Lower Class X and I need to say this:
DARCY WOULD BE IDENTIFED AS RICH BEFORE HE WOKE UP!
First, clothes. In Jane Eyre, despite her tramping through a bog, they knew her clothes are upper/middle class before she woke up. If Darcy is wearing anything he's gentry or merchant class on sight.
So lets say he's naked. People today kind of just look like people, but in the past, no. Lower class men in this era especially would wear their profession on their skin. Fishermen and farm workers would be tanned like crazy, carpenters would have lost bits of finger, blacksmiths burn marks and developed muscles. Do you know that winemaking can stain your hands purple for weeks? Aside from profession, Darcy would look soft to lower class people, but at the same time well fed. The lower classes were struggling with food insecurity during this era or for all time...
And then he wakes up, now I am not sure if they trained provincial accents out of kids in this era, BUT HAVE YOU HEARD DARCY TALK? Jane Austen doesn't have many servants talk, but sound like Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy they do not! He has perfect grammar and a huge vocabulary! He will be known as a clergyman, lawyer, merchant, gentry or even an aristocrat the second he speaks.
So what then? These are poor people, they aren't dumb. They would advertise that they have found a rich injured person and hope for a reward. Darcy would be fairly well known by face and they have artists and newspapers and printing presses. He also would be known to be missing, he has a family, he writes his sister on a regular basis.
I give it a month tops before he's safely back home.
And that's not even getting into the fact that erasing a person's entire memory is basically neurologically impossible...

The wonderful @jennelikejennay has recently written a Spirk adaptation of Pride and Prejudice called ‘Logic and Prejudice’. And although the characters in the fic don’t wear period dress (they’re in Vulcan robes and Starfleet uniforms as you’d expect) it inspired me to recreate the famous picture of Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet with our boys. Don’t they look dashing 😁😂

A new Jane Austen variation… COMING SOON
I know it’s been a while but… my new book will be coming out soon!
In it, Darcy and Elizabeth are at Netherfield together: she’s on a mission to extract her ailing sister and he is on a mission to stop crushing on her already.
Tumblr media
But here to spoil both their plans are the ghosts of Netherfield Park...
Tumblr media
I’ll share more in the coming weeks but for now… a quick glimpse at my new cover, which I’m genuinely obsessed with.

New cover!
A modern Pride and Prejudice Variation... Fitzwilliam Darcy falls madly in love with the vivacious and clever Elizabeth Bennet. After a few shots of tequila, he declares his affections for her. It is a disaster. Elizabeth resoundingly rejects him. But…it’s late, they're alone and slightly intoxicated. They sleep together. Now Darcy has everything…and nothing. He is having sex with Elizabeth and while he falls more desperately in love each day, she still hates him. It is the beginning of a secret, sensual, complicated liaison, wherein each plays a cruel game; Darcy because he is hiding his passion and growing despair, Elizabeth because she is feeling lost. As Darcy gets more hopeless, and Elizabeth tries to deny her budding feelings, another man begins to vie for her affections… Note from the author: As you may gather from the premise, this is neither a sweet nor clean tale. Nevertheless, Games of Love and Cruelty is also not erotica. The story is deeply romantic, and the depictions of sex are not too graphic or explicit.

It’s a Pride and Prejudice variation. Mr. Collins visits earlier in the plot, before Bingley and Darcy make their first appearance. So when he expresses interest in Jane, Mrs. Bennet encourages him.
Elizabeth plots to prevent the courtship and save Jane, and she gains an unlikely ally in Mr. Darcy. Meanwhile, Lydia develops a crush on Mr. Darcy. Matchmaking hijinks ensue.

Jane Austen Fanfiction Recommendation
A Wilful Misunderstanding by Amy D'Orazio | 4.5/5 stars
Pairings: Elizabeth Bennet/Fitzwilliam Darcy (Primary); Jane Bennet/Charles Bingley (Minor); Lydia Bennet/OC (Minor)
Rating: Mature. There are some references to sexuality, as well as several sensual scenes between a married couple.
Summary: Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy have a whirlwind romance that leads them to marry less than two months after they meet. Their joy is unmatched and full until they travel to London to enjoy the entertainments of the Season. External machinations lead Mr. Darcy to separate himself from his wife and set her aside at a removed country estate. Tragic misunderstandings lead to even more tragic circumstances, resulting in an enduring struggle to find their way back to each other, both physically and emotionally.
Read This Fic: This fic is free with a Kindle Unlimited subscription, or it is available for purchase: https://www.amazon.com/Wilful-Misunderstanding-Pride-Prejudice-Variation-ebook/dp/B08FZ4S23L
[SPOILERS and TAGS BELOW]
Tags: Regency Era, Canon Divergence, Angst, Hurt and Comfort, Misunderstandings, Miscommunication, Earn Your Happy Ending, HEA, Marriage, Marital strife, Marital Separation, Discussions of Infidelity, Mental Illness, Depression, Parenthood, Pregnancy, Childbirth, Forgiveness, Not safe to read if you are triggered by pregnancy, Loss of virtue, Discussions of fallen women, Ramsgate never happened
My Impressions: This fic was beautifully written and incredibly impactful. It explores and complicates several things that I love about regency-era stories, such as legal duties of wives to their husbands, beliefs that women and children were property, and the dangers of love matches and matches of convenience. There is also a complex emotional interplay between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy that I find very compelling. The only reason that this fic is not five stars is that the miscommunication/misunderstanding that occurs between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy seems somewhat contrived to me. I confess that I had to stretch my imagination to believe that it could happen. That said, the somewhat unbelievable nature of the miscommunication only makes the fallout of the realization more intense and fraught.
Notes on Characterization: Elizabeth is somewhat out of character in this fic in that she spends much of the story very sad, angry, and depressed due to her circumstances. Mr. Darcy starts off the story very out of character, but considering that Ramsgate never happened, it is at least somewhat believable. His characterization becomes better as the story moves along. Caroline Bingley is relegated to being an insufferable shrew intent on ruining everyone's happiness, which is pretty common in JAFF. There are some really delightful original characters in this story, however, especially Viscount Saye and Mrs. Macy. Characterization gets a 4/5 stars.

Common misconception about Mr. Collins in Pride & Prejudice is that he's sucking up to Lady Catherine to retain his position in the church. This is not true, the living is his for life, he's sucking up for more, as Elizabeth observes: Very few days passed in which Mr. Collins did not walk to Rosings, and not many in which his wife did not think it necessary to go likewise; and till Elizabeth recollected that there might be other family livings to be disposed of, she could not understand the sacrifice of so many hours. (Ch 30)
It was possible at the time for a rector to hold multiple livings, they would install a curate for about £50/year and pocket the rest of the income.
Also, it was nigh impossible to remove a clergyman once he was installed at a living. This example is from the book Fashionable Goodness, Christianity in Jane Austen's England by Brenda S. Cox (TW: violence against pregnant women):
Dr. Free seduced his housekeepers, resulting in five illegitimate children; caused one of the women to miscarry; let his pigs desecrate the graveyard, and kept cattle on the church porch; sold the lead off the church roof; cut down and sold trees not belonging to him; left the parish for long periods of time; and refused to marry and bury his parishioners. Eventually, when he offended a gentry family over a burial, they lodged a complaint. This led to seven years of expensive trials, at the Bishop of Lincoln's personal expense. Finally Dr. Free was removed from his living, eventual dying as a beggar. (Ch 10)
(And now you can see why Darcy really didn't want Wickham to be given a living!)
Mr. Collins and Charlotte are not being irrational in their devotion to Lady Catherine, a second living could double their income without adding very much at all to their work. Charlotte might have the added benefit of Mr. Collins spending some time at his other living during the collection of tithes. Now I do think Jane Austen found this kind of behaviour repugnant, but it isn't ridiculous, it's highly motivated.

November Reading List #1
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
This haul was a complete impulse buy and I don’t regret it.
I adore small pocket books, one of my all-time wishlist items is a leather pocket version of the LOTR and the Hobbit altogether.
Also, I really need to step up my classical reading skills which were pretty discouraging these past years.
This little book fits my small hand perfectly, and it has a hard cover which is just perfect. It also has a fabric bookmark which matches the pale blue colour of the dust cover, and! the hard cover, it has illustrations and gold sprayed edges.
I mean I want to open a shop where I re-print all my favourite books in this manner. Heaven, paradise, parallel universes unite!
If you are interested about the whole list of what I have read in November follow the link below:

Okok since everyone is doing this if this gets 2000 notes before new years imma write all of the stories and fan fictions going around in my head, which include:
-My fantasy novel with a shapeshifting culture
-a novella loosely based off a mixture of pride and prejudice and twilight that takes place in the 17th century and the love interest is secretly a vampire
-a gomens fanfic where Crowley and aziraphale go to the garden center/plant nursery
-a hobie fanfic (anything about him really)
for my novel and novella I will also share the characters: who they are, what they want, etc.
This is a LOT of work for me so that’s why the goal is 2,000 notes if y’all get to that I’m SO SCARED

Silly Little Sebastian Sallow HCs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I LOVE that I’ve seen so many headcanon posts recently because I devour all of them. Here’s me throwing in my two cents with a bunch of random tidbits I’ve sprinkled into my fic/writing 🖤
He’s almost always on time. Though he can be a bit disorganized when it comes to schoolwork (hard to keep track when you’re doing your own side projects too), punctuality is important. Literally attached at the hip to his pocket watch.
Speaking of the pocket watch, it was his father’s.
Takes both Ancient Studies and Ancient Runes as electives.
His amortentia smells like pine from Scotland’s forests, smoke (a la confringo), old books, and the candies he likes to snack on 24/7.
Following that, Sebastian is a huge foodie and loves to cook for his friends/family.
Favorite color is red (a rich, dark shade like maroon)
Has a big soft spot for nifflers.
Loves Shakespeare - Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream are his favorites
Really just loves all fictional literature; from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice to Dante’s Inferno and Homer’s the Iliad.
Chaser for Slytherin but isn’t the biggest Quidditch fan otherwise (he just enjoys the glory and excitement of a good competition)
Super stealthy. The only person who can (usually) catch him before he sneaks up on them is obviously Ominis.
Actually a fair dancer - he and Anne used to make up routines in their living room when they were little
Dances a good ceilidh, too. (kilt kilt kilt)
Born in Aranshire and traveled a lot in his youth, as his parents’ research demanded it.
Is terrified of the Black Lake after having an awkward run-in with the giant squid his first year…but loves to swim elsewhere
Secretly hates his freckles :( but overall, he’s fairly confident in his looks - without being cocky (man knows the effects he has on ~ the ladies ~ (and gents) he just doesn’t always understand it).
The scar on his lip is from Anne scratching him during a fight over a toy at age 6.
Not the most “traditional” guy, but he IS a hopeless romantic after giving him time to be comfortable showing it.
Loves starting ridiculous arguments with Ominis when he’s bored
^^ man needs CONSTANT stimulation
Birthday is October 24, 1874; he’s a Scorpio sun, aries moon, gemini rising
Might add onto this whenever the urge strikes 😇
