The other day you were talking about how you wanted to incorporate Mean Gills at some point so that got me thinking about how the story could progress and have the teams of the other series.

(If you’ve already thought about this or don’t like the idea absolutely no problem, this is your AU and your opinions come first! I just had these thoughts so I thought I’d share)

WARNING LIGHT ANGST BUT I TRY TO MAKE IT ALL BETTER

Before the big battle between our main crew and Dogwarts (which I’m assuming happens?) somehow or other Scott and Jimmy get into an argument (I’m under the assumption also that they are together at this point). Then they do the battle against Ren and Martyn and stuff. Uhhmmmm and then Scar dies somehow. IM SORRY DONT GET MAD AT ME HES MY BELOVED TOO BUT JUST HEAR ME OUT! Scar dies, maybe Grian’s fault because of the warlock pew pew. And Scott is still so upset with Jimmy, he decided he just can’t travel with the party anymore. So *Scott has left your party*

Now it’s just Jimmy and Grian, couple of Sad BoysTM. But, they end up meeting Mumbo and Impulse (and maybe making nice with Martyn? Idk how that would work so maybe not) and they form the Southlanders!

MEANWHILE there’s a possibility that Rendog also died during that last battle (perhaps at Scars hand like in canon) (that would also explain why Martyn isn’t with Ren anymore). For sea queen reasons, Lizzie resurrects Ren and he like, pledges his allegiance to her (that’s what happened in Last Life right?). And just to prove to his wife that he can totally resurrect people (she was teasing him) Joel also resurrects some guy whose body was conveniently close to Ren’s body. Aha! He resurrects Scar! My bard is back!!!

Then I had some half baked ideas about the Southlanders returning to the Crastle Tavern, in which Impulse is reunited with his old friend Skizzleman, and Skizz introduces his friend Tango (Jimmy is enamored quite quickly). Scar has also returned to the Crastle because Cleo and Bdubs are his only other friends and you can imagine the SHOCK Grian has at seeing his previously thought dead friend/partner/employee/maybe lover just up on stage perfectly fine.

Oh and while this is all happening Scott has been pals with Pearl.

Another idea I had was Etho owns a decently sized sailing ship, but he’s not a huge sailor or anything. Joel is a sailor on some kind of mission and he’s hired a crew, so he needs a boat. Etho supplies said boat. Joel’s crew is like, all the Southlanders (Aha! 🔭🏴‍☠️) and Scar, and probably Bdubs… Que hilarious shenanigans as Joel tries to be the awesome captain and call all the shots and Etho keeps undermining him because it’s technically his boat.

*gasping for breath* I’m sorry I got so carried away. I hope most of this is coherent and that you enjoyed imaging my ideas! Once again DO NOT feel like you have to incorporate ANY of this. This is your AU so you decide what happens! This is just me theorizing what could happen next 😊

Hello everyone! Today we'll be talking about The Broken Toys AU fiendish tools, the Edge Imps! Sitting at the entrance to the Frightfur Sanctuary are two giant capsule vendors: Toy Vendor and Frightfur Vendor! These vendors dispense a monster, Toy gives Fluffals and Frightfur deposits Edge Imps!

This is the Frightfur Vendor! Whenever MK's friends visit the sanctuary, they can use these vendors since the monsters inside can serve as a guide for their visit. Edge Imps are mischievous Fiends with decent amount of offensive power and are quite crafty. They may be few in number but are quite difficult to get rid of.

Before we get into the Edge Imps, I forgot to clarify some things. Frightfurs are powerful monsters which have a cost to pay should MK summon them without using the fusion method. Whenever MK summons a Frightfur without fusing them or using a card effect, it takes a chunk of his life energy.

Becoming a toy demon lowered the cost but it's a dangerous method should he overuse it. So don't expect him to spam Frightfurs every five seconds. MK will be summoning Fluffals and Edge Imps in battle first then fuse them. If any of his monster pals get defeated, they return to the Frightfur Sanctuary to recover.

Finally MK actually has a limit for how many monsters he can have out on the field. When he was human, he had a 5 monster limit but becoming a toy demon made that limit 7. Summoning too many monsters puts a strain on his mental health and could result in going berserk or passing out. I'll be going over the rest of MK's abilities on their own page.

Now that's out of the way, let's get to the monsters!

Returning Cutters: Edge Imp Sabres 'Capone'

The first Edge Imp MK summoned and his go to for starting a battle. Sabres boast a decent amount of attack power amongst their fellow Edge Imps only tied to their Chain and Scythe brethren. These shears are super stubborn since they don't go down easily without a single fight! By sending a card into standby, Sabres can come back from the grave for another round.

Capone is a Edge Imp Sabres whose handles are red instead of dark grey or black. He's a huge fan of past gangsters and antiheroes, especially Al Capone hence his name. This Edge Imp knows every underground information network that can be found in Megapolis and helps design disguises for Team Monkie Kid to use.

Sharp Gambler: Edge Imp Saw

'Nez'

An Edge Imp who MK uses to challenge the tide of a battle. Edge Imp Saws are the weakest in offensive power but have some decent defense to overcome such an issue. These living saw blades are just like their inanimate relatives, a chance between success or defeat. By sacrificing a Fluffal, Edge Imp Saws grant MK the chance to pull two cards from his deck pool. One card does have to go back but it can pay off should he get something helpful.

Nez is an Edge Imp Saw whose eyes are blue instead of magenta. Unlike most Saws, Nez is actually quite shy instead of extrovert. She prefers quiet places, sky gazing and listening to audiobooks. Nez is only threatening should someone make her mad, in that case she'll tear down any object in her path while she chases the nimrod responsible.

Supplying Matyr: Edge Imp Chain 'Wright'

A beefy Edge Imp MK can fall back on for needed tactical support. Chains are more defensive than most of their tool brethren, they can take a lot of hits but not dish out as much damage. However this particular species of Edge Imps are ones that opponents have to be careful with the most.

An attacking Chain can add another Chain for MK to use later and should this monster fall in battle, our Monkie Kid gains an instant boon with a free Frightfur type Trap or Spell for further applications.

Wright is a Edge Imp Chain whose smaller chains are red in color instead of gold. He's a bookworm with an immense thirst for knowledge. In fact, him, Tang and Warlock alongside a Fluffal named Alder often meet up to exchange information, debate or share book suggestions.

Frightful Imitation: Edge Imp Frightfuloid 'Krafty'

An unnerving ally MK can rely on during a disadvantageous fight. This type of Edge Imp are more mysterious as they share an aura similar to Frightfurs: a pseudo-Frightfur. Frightfuloids are truly dangerous when accompanied by a Frightfur. These mismatched dolls can copy the physical strengths of any on field Frightfur they pick.

Krafty is a Frightfuloid whose dog cap has two button eyes than one. An absolute gremlin who likes to cause harmless mischief to those around him. He is respectful towards his friends and doesn't perform any tricks related to their fears, treasured items or any triggers. Even a prankster must have some chivalry.

Painful Mimic: Edge Imp Tomahawk 'Cherokee'

A burly monster MK calls upon for a painful first move against opponents. Edge Imp Tomahawks are powerful Edge Imps that come second in offensive strength amongst the group. By sacrificing another Edge Imp, these living axes can take a chunk out of their opponents' life force or mimic the sacrificed Edge Imp if it came from the deck pool.

Cherokee is a Edge Imp Tomahawk whose has a obisidian bedrock axe that's apart of his mouth. He is a cultural historians that likes to study ancient cultures, ceremonies and tribal traditions of many different people or societies. Quite respective to the beliefs of others but only gets involved against it should his friends or family's lives are on the line.

Shielding Fusionist: Edge Imp Scythe 'Valor'

A monster MK often uses in dire situations. Edge Imp Scythes are equal to Saws in offensive power but have no capability to defend themselves. This issue is easily balanced by their powerful magic.

Edge Imp Scythes can fuse any Fluffals and Edge Imps that MK has on standby sacrificing themselves. A quick way to bring out a Frightfur for the more dangerous battles. These manta ray shaped monsters can even protect a Frightfur from harm while out of commission.

Valor is an Edge Imp Scythe with a red ribbon tied to one of her handles. She is quite protective and prefers a fair fight in any situation. MK easily trusts Valor when it comes to battling as the Scythe can easily analyze and find a solution when needed most.

Fusion Evangelist: Edge Imp Cotton Eater 'Egil'

General of the Edge Imps that MK summons for his most dangerous fights. Just like Frightfur Skull Meisters, Edge Imp Cotton Eaters are also Pendulum Monsters. They boast enough power that surpasses even a few Frightfurs and good defense to boot!

Cotton Eaters are winged supporters for Frightfurs and fellow Fusion allies. All fusion allies get a small boost in power when Cotton Eaters are in their magical or 'Pendulum State' and even grant MK an extra card to use should he create a Frightfur through Fusion! As a Monster, these imps use vengeful magic to do damage to opponents for each fallen Frightfur ally.

Egil is an Edge Imp Cotton Eater with a black halo on his back. He's quite friendly and laid-back when not in battle. Usually opts to float around watching the various toy monsters enjoy their day. However, Egil is a hardened veteran which shows when on the frontline. His bladed teeth cut down any foe with no mercy and he becomes rage incarnate should any Frightfurs fall.

That's it for now! I'll be covering Fluffals in two separate parts since there are actually a lot of them just like Frightfurs. Actually have the next chapter for Broken Toys done and working on the last chapter for pre-canon.

Next chapter of Stone Novas is coming up too so stay tune for that as well! I will say that things are going to get interesting in both of these stories.

can't believe i am queerbaiting my friends and pulling a bury your gays right now irl (dnd ramble)

we’re soon gonna play curse of strahd so our dm can get to play his (amazing very fun and cool) character and one of the others can take a turn dming, so i’m working on backstory for mine recently! juno is a dhampir warlock, and she’s basically a common language studies professor with some very severe impulse control issues, so i had to write a bit about her past as a professor and her relationship with her colleagues/how she became a dhampir. i ended up making up her school (a practical school- no magic is taught, just for commoners who’d like to learn some trade skills) and some characters- clem ninomae, the disgraced science prof who accidentally turned her, and keziah guillebeaux, the medicine prof who she’s... close friends with. the first thing i’ve written for her is set at the university’s winter ball and goes wrong for juno when keziah realizes juno is no longer fully human, and i just wrote it to explore some relationships and opinions really? but i sent it to the discord bc we share our writing all the time :) and now naturally everyone thinks juno and keziah are together lol

and then i remembered that because juno has the sage background, she gets “a letter from a dead colleague posing a question you have not yet been able to answer”... and it just has to be keziah, doesn’t it. so the letter asks her what her stopping point is- she’s become inhuman, and then she sold her soul, so what else would she do? would she kill? would she die (for real this time)?

but obviously i can’t tell them about all that yet- they’re not supposed to know what the letter is.

so in the end, here’s the story: juno and keziah have been dancing around each other for years. they’re best friends and even pen pals- keziah takes a lot of trips away since she’s a very gifted healer, and juno writes her from the university where she practically lives- and even though juno makes some impulsive mistakes sometimes, they always work through it and repair their relationship. before juno decides to try summoning her patron, she sends keziah, who is off on another business trip, a letter alluding to soon doing something she might regret.

and it fucking works, against all her expectations. she really summons niidaepheles, which was her only goal anyways, and she’s about to close the ritual when he offers her a deal she can’t refuse: serve him with her soul, just a small bit of help every now and again, and he’ll give her access to knowledge beyond anything available on the planes.

like i said, she can’t refuse.

after that, juno is rightfully freaked out and having a bit of an existential crisis, and, faced with her own mortality, decides that life is just too short to let this pass. as soon as keziah comes back, she’ll ask her on a real, official date. she can’t live with not knowing if they could have had something together.

keziah never comes back. two letters arrive for juno a week after she was supposed to return. one is a confirmation that the ship keziah was on sank and states that keziah was one of the confirmed casualties. the other is a half-written response from keziah herself. how far will juno go? does she have a stopping point at all?

they never got their chance together. in the end, it was always the right place, wrong time.

but all my friends know right now is that juno has a “friend” from back home with a lot of romantic tension, and they’ve run with it and conviced themselves juno and keziah end up together/are at least dating by the start of the campaign. and i can’t tell them anything otherwise just yet. and i know this is a bit evil of me, but... what if i play it like juno pretends keziah is still alive? speaking about her in the present tense, keeping the letter to herself, purposefully avoiding questions about where she is now... i could do that. and they wouldn’t know until partway through the campaign when it comes out.

so yeah, right now i am acting like a a shitty dramatic television writer and playing with my friends emotions, and god damn am i having fun with it <3

A Titan’s Gamble Chapter 6

Hawthorne’s eyes were full of betrayal, The woman had placed her trust in Zavala, in the Vanguard, and this is what she got in return? The entire farm was covered in wounded Guardian’s without ghosts, dying civilians and smashed up Exo’s. This wasn’t the deal. A part of the woman thought that the City would be her final home. A place she could finally be at peace. Why did this happen? The man she decided to place her trust in, he was gone now, leaving an empty spot in her soul. Zavala had been a turning point in Hawthorne’s life, she finally felt as if she had a new purpose but now? That was all slipping away. At least Shaxx got most people here and Ikora was doing her best to heal everyone. Things couldn’t get any worse could they? Holliday’s eyes gazed up into the sky as she waited. Where was Shaxx and Ryan? Were they okay? They should be here by now right? The brilliant pilot twitched, her finger nails digging into her skin. A part of her wanted to fly right back to the Tower and make sure that they were alright but Holliday knew she couldn’t. That would risk too much. Like Hawthorne, Zavala had changed her life. All of this was almost too much, she needed her hero’s right now. Devrim jogged over to Hawthorne’s side and gently grabbed the woman’s arm. The man could see the distress printed all over her face. “I know you already thought of this my dear but this place isn’t safe.” The older gentlemen said softly. It was true. Zavala knew about the farm and it was probably going to be his first place to strike. He was smarter with strategies than any of them were. Where was Cayde when you needed him? The Exo would know exactly what to do. “We need people mobile before we can do anything Dev. How many days can we last here?” The woman asked quietly, attempting not to alert anyone. “Not even a day. We need to move, quickly.” “But where do we even go?” Ikora’s form suddenly entered the picture as the wounded Warlock spoke. “We don’t go anywhere. We wait.” Hawthorne and Devrim quickly turned to meet the powerful Warlock’s gaze. Was she serious? They had little to no supplies and she wanted them to wait? “You’re joking, right?” The Clan Steward whispered. Ikora spoke in a hushed tone. “We need to, We still haven’t heard from Ryan or Lord Shaxx-” Hawthorne quickly interrupted the Vanguard Warlock. “Then isn’t safe to assume that they’re gone? We need to think about our people, not our lost.” Devrim quickly placed a hand on the brunette’s shoulder and gave Hawthorne a smile. She had grown so much. “You’re right. But we can’t protect our people without them. I know Ryan very well. He’ll have a plan.” “For everyone’s sake I hope you’re right.”

“AHH FUCK, FUCK!” Ryan’s pained voice filled the Derelict as he crumpled onto the floor. The Darkness that had been shot into him started to overtake the Titan, curling through his inside’s and reaching for his mind. “Shit, SHIT!” Moira’s voice was frantic as she attempted to figure out what to do. She had no choice, she had to try and absorb the Dark out of him. If she could do it with motes, she could do it with Guardian’s right? Right?! “Okay just-just hold on!” The woman cried as she dropped to her knees and placed her hands upon Ryan’s gaping wound. “Ryan! It’ll be okay!” Yogi said in the most calm tone he could muster, the calm was a lie however. The ghost was terrified that he was about to lose his only friend. Yogi’s voice was practically screaming as he watched his Guardian struggle in pain. He couldn’t do this, He needed Ryan by his side. Drifter was quick to prop Ryan up, the man’s form pressed against the Titan’s back as he shoved him forward, closer to his second in command. Drifter gave Moira a nod, she could do this. The rouge lightbearer knew she could. She had to. “If yer gonna do something kid, Do It Now!” With a deep breath, Moira’s eyes closed. The woman was so nervous. She had never done anything like this before. The only Darkness she ever dared to even touch was the ones from the motes Drifter created. Slowly exhaling, the brunette began to focus. Ever so slowly the darkness began to crawl out of the man, answering the woman’s strange call. It was like her body was singing to it. The black liquid curled around the woman’s fingers and wrists, reaching up her arms as it finally left all of Ryan’s form. As the last bit of Darkness was pulled from Ryan, the man let out a gasped breath before crawling back as fast as he could, His form shoved away from Drifter as his hands shook and his back crashed onto the hard flooring. Drifter was quick to let go of the Titan but even faster to check on his Second in Command. Moira’s closed eyes tensed as she absorbed the Darkness through her skin. It hurt so badly, a feeling she had never had before when she ate Darkness. It was so cold, so empty, but the pain was gone in a matter of seconds. So was her energy however. The woman let out soft pants as her hands pressed against the floor. A drop of sweat landed on the steel. “Ryan!” Yogi squealed before he gently rubbed up against his guardian’s face. The Titan was speechless, attempting to process what had just happened. It felt like his mind was going to melt, as if a hand reached straight into his brain and started pulling strings. He saw something or rather...someone? The form was shadow like, he couldn’t make out the figure but it was trying to say something to him. The moment Moira pulled the Darkness out of him, the figure vanished. Was he okay now? With a weak smile, the Titan began to sit up, placing a hand upon the top of his ghost’s head and gave it a gentle rub. “Hey bubby…” At least the man still had Yogi. “You okay Titan?” Moira asked as Drifter helped the woman to her feet. Moira gave Drifter a kind smile before she walked over to Ryan and extended her hand out to him. The Titan took her hand, welcoming the help up to his feet. “You saved me.” The man stated, slightly shocked that she had. “I did.” The woman stated back, giving Ryan a calm smile. “Now, are you good?” Ryan nodded as he released the woman’s hand. “Yeah I-I feel okay.” Moira let out a relieved sigh. “Thank whatever god’s out there. I didn’t think that would actually work.” The brunette smirked, causing Ryan’s eyes to widen, “Oh that’s cool, no it’s fine, I’ll just be your test subject.” Ryan growled out as his arms crossed his chest. Moira laughed as she playfully punched the Titan’s shoulder. “Hey it worked though right?” The Titan rolled his eyes and let a small smile escape his lips. “Sure. You win.” The woman laughed once more and turned her attention to Drifter. The man was smiling as he watched the two interact. A part of Drifter hoped that this would become the new normal. Moira laughing and making jokes, Ryan staying on the Derelict. The two were going to be amazing friends. He could already sense it. That is, if Ryan got over his fear of the Darkness. The Titan would be amazing for his crew. “Boss man? Where do we go now?” The brunette asked softly, gazing into her boss’s eyes. Drifter thought for a moment as he met Moira’s gaze. The man wanted nothing more than some alone time with her, his heart had been pounding in his chest since the kiss on the Tower, all he wanted to do was tell her how he felt, all his emotions, everything. He wanted to finally open up after thousands of years. Moira had been there, pounding and breaking down his walls since day one. It was time for him to finally let her in. It was freeing, knowing that he could. Unfortunately now wasn’t the time for that. “You said the farm, right kid?” Drifter reluctantly removed his gaze from Moira and stared at the Titan. Ryan nodded, rubbing the back of his head. “Yeah, they said they were taking everyone there.” Drifter’s head tilted to the side as he scratched his beard. If they went to the Farm it could mean trouble. Zavala was sure to attack that place soon once he healed up, who knows what kind of army he has built up now? But, if he was alongside a hero, helping others to a safer place then he could be put on Ikora’s nice list. A thing that would certainly pay off in the future. Not to mention, he still needed Ryan to help him with cleaning up the shore. Spider didn’t care about delays, the job needed to be done. Drifter needed that power supply. Moira smirked as she watched her boss deep in thought. She loved watching him ponder. He was clever, crafty. It was an amazing experience to be apart of it. Ryan thought otherwise as he tapped his foot impatiently. “So what’s going on, are we going to the Farm or what?” The Titan interrupted Drifter’s thought process causing Moira to let out a small laugh. The rouge shot Ryan a look before he turned to the cockpit of the ship. “Alright. Let’s get to the farm.”

It took only a matter of minutes for the group to transport onto the familiar land. The moment Ryan’s feet touched the ground, a part of the man felt at home. The Farm was a beautiful place, a spot where he felt safe. It had been ages since he last visited which was his own fault. Ryan always told himself he was far too busy with the Vanguard to pop down. A lie, the man was always worried that if he came down here again he would never return to the Tower. Hawthorne was the first to spot the group, relief flew over the woman’s form as she quickly hopped down from her perch and ran towards them. “Thank the Traveler…” She huffed as she grabbed Ryan by the arm and pulled the Titan into a hug. Ryan smiled, hugging the woman back just as tightly. Hawthorne had become a close pal since the Red War. Cayde would normally bring her along on missions and the two grew close as time passed. She didn’t care about rules, which was refreshing to the Titan. She made terrible jokes and she had her priorities straight. Hawthorne knew who she was. It was nice. Moira smiled, watching the two interact. The woman had her replacement snake mask on and was close to Drifter’s side. Even if they were in the middle of a disaster, she didn’t want to risk anyone remembering her face. It was safer this way for everyone, especially Drifter. The rouge lightbearer smirked as he looked down at the woman by his side. Gently, his hand curled around her fingers, giving them a squeeze. Moira’s entire face turned red along with her ears. She let out the softest squeak before she slowly inched closer to her boss’s form, resting her head on his upper arm. Drifter’s cheeks heated up as a proud smile grew on his lips. “Cocky bastard.” Moira muttered causing the man to laugh victoriously. Devrim and Ikora were quick to follow in Hawthorne’s footsteps once they saw the woman running. The group was thrilled and relieved to see Ryan alive and unaffected by Zavala’s attack. “Where have you been?!” Hawthorne snarled out as she ripped away from Ryan’s form and gave the man a smack on the shoulder. “Hey ow!” The Titan teased, causing Devrim to chuckle. “I needed to regroup. Is everyone safe here? How long do we have?” Ryan threw out questions fast causing Ikora to let out a sigh. The Warlock gazed upon the hurting people. There was no where to go and it was only going to be a matter of time before Zavala’s army came knocking. “Not long at all I’m afraid.” The older gentleman said softly, meeting the Titan’s gaze. “We have little to no supplies and we need to move. We have nowhere to go however.” Moira’s eyes widened as she looked up at Drifter, wondering if he was thinking what she thought he was. “Shit...with the Tower off limits, where can we go?” Ryan muttered as he went deep into thought. There had to be a place somewhere right? Ikora let out another sigh as she turned her gaze towards Drifter and the strange woman. “Glad to know you’re alright.” She said in a kind tone, giving Drifter a clearly fake smile. The man countered with an equally fake grin. Moira removed herself from Drifter grasp, straightening her back and placing her hands by her sides. She was like a solider, always ready to protect what was most important. “Well that just warms this old heart of mine. Lucky enough, I know a place.” The man purred as he began to walk towards Ikora, Moira in tow. Hawthorne and Devrim stared at the con man, aware of his crimes and how he was not the man of trust he claimed to be. “They owe me a favor. Besides, Zavala losin his mind is gonna cause everyone problems. Might as well get an army of our own.” Ikora’s eyes hardened as she challenged the man’s gaze “And where do you suggest we go?” “I’m sure you’ve heard of it. The Dreaming City?” Ikora’s eyes widened as the words left the man’s lips. The dreaming city? He had to be joking, Guardian’s were far from welcome there. “Thing is, we gotta contact someone first.” Hawthorne turned to face Ryan, her face said it all. Was this man to be trusted? Unfortunately they had to. Drifter was all they had right now and the damn smug bastard knew it. He was gonna use this to his advantage, Ryan knew it. A part of the Titan admired him though. Drifter was damn smart, almost as smart as Ikora. He was sly, charming. He knew how to put things in his favor. “Then contact them.” Ikora stated. She was no longer playing around. Every second passing was time for Zavala to regroup. “Alright sister. Remember, you agreed to this.” The man teased as he turned, beginning to walk over to whatever tech the escaping people of the city had been able to salvage. Drifter wouldn’t be able to get a hold of his contact without getting on an untraceable line. Petra, the Queen’s Wrath, owed him a big favor. Now seemed like the perfect time for her to repay him. “We’re going to regret this.” Devrim stated, letting out a soft huff. Hawthorne crossed her arms against her chest, glaring at the ground. “Great, the shadiest man ever survives but we lose all the Titan’s. That’s a GREAT deal.” Moira smirked and gazed up at Ryan. She knew what the boss was doing, who he was calling. It would be interesting to see if the Queen’s Wrath would agree to help. There was practically a war going on in the City, how would he sell this? A part of the woman wanted to go listen in, see how he charmed his way to victory but another part of her didn’t want to let these people out of her eye sight. She trusted none of them, well...besides Ryan. Ikora had made it very clear she would destroy Drifter if she could. The Titan turned and gave Moira a look. She knew Drifter better than anyone else. Ryan needed a little bit of hope right now. A smile, a gesture, anything to let him know that they were gonna be okay. Moira gently grabbed Ryan’s forearm and gave it a squeeze. A good enough sign for him. With that the Titan turned to Ikora, Hawthorne and Devrim. “Let’s get these people ready.” Ikora nodded, beginning to walk over to the Guardian’s while Devrim turned to help the lightless who had been wounded. Hawthorne however had not moved. The woman stared into Ryan’s eyes, watching. Something about the man had changed and she wasn’t sure she liked it. It was like his light had dimmed. “Ryan. You really trust this guy?” The woman tested. Ryan took a deep breath and thought. After everything, Drifter and Moira had saved his life. They at least earned a bit of his trust, not all of it, but a tiny portion. “Unfortunately yeah...yeah I do. Now please, let’s get these people moving.” Hawthorne was unconvinced but walked alongside Ryan as they moved towards the supply shed, packing what could be of use. Moira watched as the group dissipated, beginning her walk over to the boss. Time to be heroes.

Inspired from that Star Wars post you replied to but where would you put Rich and the Guardians in a Medieval fantasy setting?

Strictly Medieval Fantasy? Or something like D&D or Elder Scrolls? OK I just pulled this out of thin air and don’t plan on doing anything with this (and if I ever do it would just be something short because I suuuuck at writing fics as you will see in this post that I do) so just read it for your entertainment.But before you read have you checked out ammosart’s fanart of Sir Richard, Lord Quill, and Lady Gamora? I just had to show people that.

Peter is a Prince who abdicated his claim to the throne in favor of adventure and wanting to help people across the land (it’s similar to how in the original Star-Lord comic Peter abdicates his claim to the throne at the end of his original run and Jason appoints his adopted son, Kip Holm, as Emperor of Spartax so it's in character that he doesn’t want to be a ruler). Before dying, his mother the Queen gave him the title of Lord of the Stars, a title given to the nobles of the Quill family (what it means and why? I haven’t thought that far I’m just thinking this up as I go) along with a magical sword (this AU’s version of the element gun) that Peter’s father left her before returning to his own Kingdom (which is said to be in an enchanted realm and hard to access, though Peter eventually makes his way there and he doesn’t want to be that Kingdom’s King either). Peter is a great sword fighter and a jack of all trades. He has money and influence since he’s a noble and has some connections to less than ideal figures but it’s how he gets around and At one point Peter would meet up with Rouket (Rocket), a genius inventor and blacksmith as well as a magical Raccoon. Groot is an Ent Tree who follows Rocket around after Rocket saved his life.Peter would then meet Gamora a soldier of fortune and former guild Assassin who is wanted by the guild. She joins up with Peter’s band because she likes the idea of using her skills for good and wants to become a better person (she still occasionally wants to get payed for her services though, she doesn’t care if Peter is loaded, people have to eat and buy things for a living and she likes being financially independent). Gamora is friends with an unusual Warlock named Adam who mostly wants to be left alone and his pal Pip the troll, both whom offered her sanctuary while she quit and ran from the Assassin’s Guild. Gamora is also close to two other Soldiers of Fortune, one named Angela and another named Nebula.Then there’s Drax who is a restless Revenant type of human brought back by unusual magic and he’s shunned by common folks because of his appearance and dark origin. Drax feels anger for his wife and daughter’s (who is still alive but he doesn’t know that) deaths and he wants revenge on their killer who is the Assassin Guild’s leader. Peter and Gamora promised him justice so he’s with them for the time being.

Heather and Mantis are definitely mystic monks with Mantis having empath abilities. Heather is in love with Phyla, a lady from the house of Vell (their insignia is the Star of Hala) in the Kingdom of Hala. She took up the sword and is being trained by Sir Wendell Vaughn, a Paladin from the Order of the Quasar which not much is known of. Phyla struggles with her teachings and her darker side. She is also afraid of ending up as a fallen Paladin and Black Knight like her brother Genis.

Rich would be a young Knight Errant (or like ASOIAF’s Hedge Knight) and a former Nova Knight from the lost Kingdom of Xandar. He’s not a wizard but as a Nova Knight he has control of Xandar’s unique magic and knowledge of some of their spells. He sometimes communicates with an old Xandarian Guardian spirit known as the Weorold Gemynd (yes I know the name is awful, shut up) that teaches him about Xandarian magic and also freaks out the locals in whichever town he’s staying. He’s also Xandar’s only known survivor which is a source of anger and shame for him especially since he’s criticized for surviving when everyone else there died. This would eventually set him on a quest of vengeance against those who destroyed Xandar (can’t decide if it would be a demonic version of Annihilus and his wave or Zorr, and the Luphomoids, or even the Universal Church which would fit more with the setting than anything and they also ended up killing the Nova corps). He was a newly appointed Knight when the Kingdom fell and he was also a former peasant which makes Nobles question how a lowborn ever achieved such title (maybe Xandarians were equal opportunity like that. I definitely would like to think of them as being more enlightened or advanced than the other Kingdoms which probably contributed to their downfall). People think Rich is odd since he talks to peasants with the same respect as he does nobles and is forward to a noble of higher status than him as he is to someone of his same status. People have reported seeing him by the sea during dusk no matter where he is and sometimes in the company of an odd looking but beautiful blonde. They claim that he’s bewitched by a Siren but Rich says she isn’t one and it’s none of their business (In reality it’s Nita and she’s a Sea Elf, also I have trouble placing the other New Warriors in this setting, particularly Night Thrasher and Speedball).

Rich is just weird and some people don’t like him because of it and he gets kicked out of a lot of towns. At one point both Peter and Rich end up meeting while fighting on the same side in a war and Peter takes a liking to Rich and his forwardness. Peter eventually wants Rich to join up with his group. Rich occasionally does join up but he eventually leaves to do his own thing (Peter does try to get him to stay though). Nevertheless when they’re apart Rich keeps in contact with the Peter and his Guardians of the Realm (name pending, lol) through magical means and he does join up when they’re nearby. He’s close to them and likes them all (Peter and Gamora being his favorite people and Phyla being the closest thing he has to a sister) which is partially why he keeps his distance because he is still on that vengeance for Xandar quest and he doesn’t want them involved.Gah I can’t believe I spent an hour on this, but thanks Anon, I had fun.

Good Omens Chibi Headcanons Part 1

Headcanons for if Aziraphale had his own little chibi. (Got inspired by cute chibi fanarts I saw on here made by artists with the usernames asunnydisposish and kimmigawa.) THANK YOU TO @luna-sheep FOR READING THIS FOR ME!👍 For space reasons, these headcanons are going to be split into three parts. First is Aziraphale, second is Crowley, and the last ones will interactions between both of their chibis. I’ll post the second and third ones later and link them all in each post.

Chibi Aziraphale:

• HE'S THE CUTEST SMOLEST MOST GOODEST ANGEL BOY EVER!!!😇👼❤️❤️❤️

• You can thank Aziraphale’s heavenly influence for that!

• The chibi gets little reminders from Aziraphale to be happy and to think positive.

• Chibi Aziraphale is happy to have formed a friendship with Aziraphale, and is very glad that both he and him get along so well!

• Aziraphale enjoys reading to him.

• Chibi Azi wishes the humans would invent books in his size so that he’d be able to read them.

• Chibi Aziraphale likes fictional characters such as Winnie The Pooh, Molang, Pusheen The Cat, and Moomintroll.

• Aziraphale takes Chibi Aziraphale to St. James park to visit the ducks by the pond and feed them. At first, the sight of the ducks frighten the little angel. They were much more bigger than he was! W-What if they tried to eat him?! Noticing the scared look on his small friend’s face, Aziraphale kindly reassures to him that the ducks were merely just water birds who enjoyed bread, and that the tiny celestial being had absolutely nothing to be afraid of. He even shows the chibi how to properly feed the birds by placing a crust in his hand and allowing him to toss it at the nerby drake who caught it immediately. This makes Chibi Aziraphale beam in delight as the two angels spend the rest of the afternoon giving food to the ducks.🦆🍞

• As a reward for helping him around the bookshop, Aziraphale miracles Chibi Aziraphale sweets.

• The angel had a love for food similar to his bigger counterpart. Chibi Aziraphale’s favorites include crepes and sushi, (of course) coffee cake, raspberry cream pie, and shortbread cookies.

• He’s not aware of it, but Aziraphale does indeed spoil his chibi at times.

• Aziraphale likes to dress his chibi up in 17th and 18th century male doll outfits/attire. (Imagine a clothing montage of Chibi Aziraphale trying on/wearing the outfits and looking adorable in them all while classical music plays. Aziraphale would squeal at how cute Chibi Aziraphale looks in each outfit, telling him that he looks like a wittle gentleman.)

•Chibi Aziraphale loved wearing the outfits when he and Aziraphale had tea parties. It made him feel fancy! The chibi's Harry The Stuffed Rabbit plush would also be at the tea party as well, dressed up in a 17th or 18th century outfit that was similar to his.

• I can see Aziraphale getting his chibi a pair of round lenseless doll glasses. There! Now he looks nifty too!

• Since he’s become fairly good at it, Aziraphale shows his chibi how to do the gavotte! It’s really cute to see the two angels both have ridiculous pleased expressions on their faces.

• Chibi Aziraphale really likes this song! Everything about it was just so pure and divine. (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TWps8vw8oCo) Imagine during a cold, winter day Aziraphale happily knitting his miniature pal a sweater near a warm fire place all while this plays in the background on the wood metal gramophone sculpture.

• Aziraphale finally has a little assistant for his magic act!

• Chibi Aziraphale loves Aziraphale’s “magic” and was easily impressed by it, believing it to be real! His favorite trick had to be the ‘pull the coin outta the ear’ trick.

• Aziraphale gets one of those really big old doll houses for him (you know, something similar to the Astolat Dollhouse Castle) to live in so that he had a place he can feel at home in and be in control of.

• If someone or something new scares him, Chibi Aziraphale would quickly hide behind Aziraphale’s leg similar to how a timid child would hide behind their mother.

• At night, after Crowley drops him off at his bookshop, Aziraphale goes inside and immediately heads to the back room to check up on Chibi Aziraphale. He had miracled the angel sheets of paper and a pack of crayons before he had left to keep the little guy from being bored while he was away. When Aziraphale walks inside the room, he spots Chibi Aziraphale asleep on his desk. The chibi was nestled up near his Harry The Stuffed Rabbit plush and several sheets of paper and crayons. Aziraphale simply smiles. “Aw, he’s sleeping.” Just when the angel was about to attend to the papers and crayons that were on the desk, he notices a drawing on one of the papers. He picks it up and takes a look at it. It was a drawing done by Chibi Aziraphale! It was an adorable childlike drawing of Aziraphale and Chibi Aziraphale smiling with a heart above them. On the top of the picture the words “Friends Forever” was slightly sloppily written in crayon. Seeing this beautiful artwork made Aziraphale’s face melt into an expression of pure joy and happiness, tears welling up in his eyes. He sets the lovely art down on the desk and gently picks up Chibi Azi without waking him up. “You’re so sweet.” he softly whispers to him before walking over to the chibi’s doll house to get him to bed. As Aziraphale tucks the tiny angel in, Chibi Aziraphale smiles in his sleep and snuggles underneath his little blanket. Aziraphale can’t help but smile sweetly once again. After that, the principality returns to his desk to take care of the papers and crayons. When finished, he catches up on some late night books. Tommorrow he plans on finding a safe place to keep the drawing that Chibi Aziraphale drew for him.

• Aziraphale and Chibi Aziraphale have a sorta almost parent and child relationship.

• Chibi Aziraphale didn’t look so happy today. He seemed pretty sad in fact. The angel was currently sitting on top of a book that was on Aziraphale’s desk with a glum look on his face. Aziraphale sees this and now makes it his duty to cheer his little buddy up! Let’s see, he knows that Chibi Aziraphale really likes it when he performs fake old timey human magic, so, switching into his magician outfit that he wore at Warlock’s party, he tries doing just that. He does the basic tricks like the card trick, pulling Chibi Aziraphale's Harry The Stuffed Rabbit plushie from his hat trick, and even the coin trick, but it doesn’t seem to change the small angel’s gloomy mood. As a final act, Aziraphale makes a “pie” (which was really just a paper plate filled with whipped cream) “vanish.” (vanish as in he basically just shoves the “pie” in his face, pieing himself.) He then is all like “ta da!” and does the whole jazz hands thing. Chibi Aziraphale looks at him for a moment before laughing. Aziraphale then starts laughing too.

• While he does like Aziraphale alot and was pleased that the both of them were really good friends, Chibi Aziraphale does get…slightly envious of Aziraphale sometimes. Mainly because of his size. Because Aziraphale was so much bigger than he was, he didn’t have to ever worry about getting accidentally or purposely stepped on, he could reach for a book on the book shelf and read it without any problems at all, and he could eat all the crepes and sushi he wanted whenever he wanted. It’s not fair! How dare that angel be big enough to do all those neat things! (It’s meant to be a cute jealousy though so it’s nothing too serious. He still loves him.)

or, alternatively: meet teejay vanetten, local golden boy football star turned mechanic.

( jack mulhern, werebear, he/him, & cismale ) is that ( fool in the rain ) by ( led zeppelin ) playing? guess ( tucker jeremiah ‘teejay’ vanetten )’s comin’ in hot! heard folks say the ( twenty ) year old ( mechanic ) was at the thanksgiving fair, ( winnin’ the love of his life one of those damned jumbo elephant squishy things, he swears, just as soon as he buys more tickets ‘cause this damned ring toss is a hell ton harder than playin’ football ever was ) when chaos ensued. during the glitch, ( he nearly lost his life in a werebear attack while tryin’ to get himself and his fiancee out from harm’s way ) .

b a c k g r o u n d .

teejay’s father, jeremiah, went to school with georgia duchannes’ mother, and was introduced to one of her close friends, katherine ( kay ), who would later become the love of his life.

in 1962, teejay was born. he was a bright, hazel-eyed baby boy who just couldn’t stop smiling. the vanettens would play the beatles and he’d bounce in his crib; they’d have living room dance parties before dinner. jeremiah and kay were the picture-perfect, most loving parents –– they cheered when teejay sipped from his first non-sippy cup. as a family, they share many laugh-so-hard-you-cry moments.

the vanettens are an outdoorsy family. they got teejay into camping and hiking very young, starting with setting up a tent and lanterns in their own back yard and progressing from there. teejay learned to whittle when he was six, and has continued the hobby ever since. ( he’s made georgia many a figurine. )

mr. vanetten owns vanetten auto, and mrs. vanetten worked as secretary to the mayor. growing up, teejay lived modestly but comfortably. teejay learned to change his first tire when he was in elementary school, and he was hooked –– throughout middle and high school, he’d bring his dad a soda after football practice and help him out at the auto shop.

local football sweetheart. teejay followed in dean hollis’s legacy, and as quarterback for the ferrets, people expected big things from this kid. he accepted a full-ride scholarship to play football for a D1 university and completed one year of studies there, before choosing to drop out and return home to help out his parents after his mom fell ill with a brain tumor.

for about a year, teejay has been home. his mother isn’t able to work any longer, so the vanetten household lives paycheck to paycheck, and teejay essentially runs the garage to allow his dad to take his mom in for treatments, etc. the prognosis isn’t good, but vanettens are hopeful people, and they’re prayin’ for a miracle. god works in mysterious ways.

around town, he can be found helping his neighbors garden, carry their groceries, etc.

at the garage, he’s always playin’ zeppelin, queen, and hummin’ along. odds are, if you show up, he’s toe-tappin’ under the hood of someone’s vehicle with motor oil smeared all over the place.

his grandmother used to call him peter rabbit because his hair always flops in front of his eyes like peter’s ears.

goes by teejay but... it was supposed to be tj. in kindergarten, when the teachers asked kids to spell their names, tucker jeremiah just assumed it was spelled t-e-e-j-a-y because his parents never addressed him by his full name unless he got into trouble, and it looked right to him ! so that’s what he’s been goin’ by and spellin’ it like ever since.

he has that adorable southern drawl. that warm, lopsided smile. honestly folks, this here’s a heartthrob of a guy, ‘n he’s got no awareness of it.

he loves chocolate shakes and bacon burgers. corn nuts are a must. he does that thing at the drive-in where you get two popcorn bags ( one empty ) and toss all the m&ms and popcorn together like a salad.

not a coffee guy, so he drinks cokes for the caffeine.

t h e f a i r .

teejay was getting slaughtered by the ring toss when the glitch broke out. he immediately searched the mayhem to find georgia, his fiancée, but once the two of them linked up and started their escape, they were attacked by a rogue werebear.

while finding his way to georgia, teejay pointed and helped as many people as he could to safety. he’s the definition of selfless, and his priorities were as follows: save georgia. save everyone else.

he’s so heckin’ thankful his mother and father stayed home; they’d almost decided to go. imagine their horror when they heard the news...

teejay was unconscious at the clinic for about three days before coming to. he has nasty slash scars across his chest and ribs from the attack.

c u r r e n t l y .

strange things are happenin’. he can smell for miles. sometimes his own strength precludes him. he accidentally bent a tire iron in two. wha ? he’s tryin’ not to make a fuss about it. everyone else has so much weighin’ on ‘em, the last thing teejay ever wants is to be a burden. but like. the wakin’ up in the woods with blood on his lips ? he’s startin’ to think maybe that’s not just a night terror.

fiancée – georgia duchannes. these two are letum falls’ token sweethearts, through and through. been best friends since birth, essentially, and even though they only started officially datin’ when they were 15, everyone knew they were devoted to one another long before. their engagement’s a quiet development, but ain’t nobody surprised, really. these two complement one another better than cinnamon sugar on a fairground pretzel. georgia’s assertiveness rounds out teejay’s people-pleasing. and jesus, they’re so in love. teejay’s only got eyes for his girl. he still makes heart eyes when anyone so much as mentions her, even now.

football teammate / dynamic duo – jesse torres. on the field, these two were unstoppable. off the field, they’re inseparable. teejay and jesse made letum falls football history, and there wasn’t any doubt in anyone’s minds that they’d both go on to do amazing things. teejay accepted his full-ride scholarship, but jesse never got the chance. and now that teejay’s back and in a similar precarious situation with losin’ his mother soon? these two need one another more than ever. catch ‘em around town gettin’ into silly shenanigans, and being general doofuses. soft bros. we love.

reluctant ally / sleuther – lee holmes. teejay meets lee when bez introduces ‘em, and reluctantly agrees to help him figure out what the hell is happenin’ to him. because he doesn’t wanna bother anyone else with it, and he trusts the holmes’, even if they are a lil... strange.

older brother figure / idol – dean hollis. dean hollis left a legacy here in letum falls, and teejay has always aspired to be like him. he was so thrilled dean would be makin’ an appearance at the thanksgiving fair, and now that he’s decided to stay? ample brother-type bonding’ll ensue.

w a n t e d c o n n e c t i o n s .

witch / warlock friend. someone teejay knows might have magical aptitude, and might approach about curing his mother. maybe it’s not possible. maybe it is, but this individual doesn’t have the skillset quite ironed out. either way, he can’t exactly go on and ask it with no premise, so... they’ve bonded over the past few months as friends. and he��s still tryin’ to figure out how to ask for help ( one of his weaknesses ) .

someone who helps out at the garage. teejay’s footin’ it all on his own lately, and the workload can be tough. maybe this person helps work on cars too, or maybe they’re more customer-facing. they help round out the workload so teejay isn’t pullin’ 24-hour shifts. because honestly, some days, it comes to that.

high school friends / squad. since teejay’s back in town, i imagine folks he went to school with were keen on reconnecting. teejay was well-liked and popular in high school, yes because of football, but also because he’s just genuinely an openhearted person. these folks could be from all walks of life.

best girl friend(s). he turns to these gals for shenanigans, and also, like... huh. how does he word this? relationship advice? not that he doesn’t know what t’do but uh... sometimes the female perspective’s kinda nice.

beer buds. life’s hard unless you’ve got a cold one in your hand, and a pal to help knock ‘em back.

one-sided flirtationship. yo. he’s oblivious. how hilarious would it be if someone was like... very clearly flirty with him and he just? doesn’t even? see it?

Oh my gosh so my lovely friends @halosboat @helloamhere and @haztobegood all tagged me in this so I’m going to answer a few from each of them I hope that’s okay!!

1. Do you prefer to write in past or present tense?

I mostly use past tense. Present squeaks me out a bit, not sure why, perhaps my anxiety can’t deal with things happening in the moment! I have an irrational fear of the word ‘was,’ though, which is eliminated in present by ‘is’ so, one would think I’d like present more but I *don’t*

2. Is there any story you want to write but feel like you won’t manage?

My story The Garden is going to be... hard. It’s a soulmate fic set in three time periods, a Biblical AU following the reincarnation of lovers David+Johnathan but in the middle ages, Jesus+Judas in the 1960s, and Adam+Eve in the present day, all obviously portrayed by Harry and Louis. It stems from the evangelical idea that Adam, David, and Jesus were the three ‘Christs,’ or rather that Adam and David were imperfect Saviors. Anyways. I want it to explore divinity and fate and religion and politics and loss and violence and love, and the blurring between good and evil and if there even is a distinction, and it’s so clear in my mind that I can almost taste it, but because of that I’m very daunted by the prospect. It would also be very LONG. And idk who would read a biblical gay love story AU so... I’ve even considered just doing a novel, not a fan fic *shrugs*

3. Which one of your fics do you think deserves more love?

OH BOY. Well I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. My RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER AU. Like. Harry is a shapeshifting reindeer. He pulls Santa’s sleigh. He love Christmas more than anything in this whole damn world. Louis is one of Santa’s elves and Harry’s best friend and he wants nothing more than to run away and explore the world. There’s all the mutual idiotic oblivious pining. There’s Christmas shit. SO much Christmas shit. There’s smut. There’s magic. Peppermint dildos. Need I say more?

4. Are the fictional characters you like to read/write similar to the people you like in real life?

I unfortunately read about the people in my real life quite enough in the news *trump voters cough cough* so no, I try to fill my fictional life with witches and warlocks and fairies and intellectuals and scientists and the occasional damsel wandering the moors. As for the characters I write, I have noticed that I tend to make them all very emotionally prone, which I think is more a reflection of myself than the people I’m around. I honestly base most of my characters, or at least their inner issues, on myself, not in an egotistical way, but in an ‘I know myself better than anyone else in my life’ way. Now. Do I like myself? Haha. Um. Ya there’s a reason I solve my self-based character’s problems in fics, I usually need to learn those lessons in my real life.

5. What is your biggest fear about your writing?

My biggest fear has always been failure. As a musician, I’m constantly fearing my art. It’s my profession, and it has to be perfect, and it’s a constant strain. So when it comes to writing, I just don’t let myself care. That’s not to say I don’t edit obsessively and let my perfectionist side play, but because writing is for fun, I don’t fear failing at it. So what if no one reads a story I wrote? I wrote it for me. I wanted to read that story, so I did, and if people hate it, so what. If writing ever became my profession I would likely attach my self worth to it like I do with music, and that’s part of the reason I shy away from that path... I want writing to always be my safe place. Now mechanically, I admit freely that I am the world’s WORST speller. Above that, I also am slightly dyslexic when it comes to right/left, music staff lines, and some words, so I’ll often use the wrong word that sounds the same, you know. Believe it or not my vocab score on the GRE was fucking PERFECT. I just can’t remember how to spell anything, I will legit SPEAK the word I want into Siri and hope she can save my ass. The spelling rules of English are my worse enemy.

6. What is the least “you” story that you like, what was something you really thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving?

This is so hard because I’m super picky and usually don’t have the patience to wait out things that initially fail to grab my interest. Perhaps... dare I say, the Great British Baking show? I eat none of the things they make. I usually don’t like reality tv or competition shows, they’re too anxiety inducing. But I LOVE this show. I will binge watch it while curled up in bed drinking tea. I now know what a proving drawer is.

7. How do you think about places, locations, settings for your fics?

Usually my plots come ready-made with places. The two are pretty inseparable. I knew PITS would happen in a place like my hometown, that was integral to the story. I knew Until You Remember would be a coastal British village like I’d seen on BBC shows. I knew Flawless would be in NYC, and same with Reindeer Games (apart from the North Pole of course). For Kiss the Girl I did debate between Miami and St. Pete, but having been to both I just... Miami is so wild. I needed a slow, tired place that felt old and forgotten. I guess the real answer to this question is that I set fics mostly in places where I’ve spent time in real life!

8. Give me an example of a scene or plot point in a fic of yours that changed a lot from what you thought it would be

I struggled a lot with the end of Flawless. I’d written this fic and posed all these problems and questions about the nature of love and passion and art and they were all questions I’d been dealing with in my real life and hence I just didn’t have the answers. So I sat on the fic for a while and spent lots of time just thinking, thinking while I put makeup on in the morning, during rehearsal, as I drove places, etc. I remember when the answer “art never needs to be flawless to merit love/people don’t need to be flawless to merit love” hit me, I was sitting on the bathroom counter flossing my teeth or something, and I just jumped up and ran to my notebook. Because that’s a super obvious answer, isn’t it? But I hadn’t been able to find it amidst all the clutter of my questions.

9. Do you consider tags necessary for fics or are they just spoiling the content?

100% necessary. I was super conscious of this for PITS, as the last thing I ever wanted to do was trigger people trying to avoid trauma. Also, as someone who will actively stop movies or shows if I don’t know the ending is happy, I always am clear about that as well. Spoilers and proper tagging aren’t mutually exclusive, in my opinion.

10. Is there any author that inspired you to start writing?

Well... I’ve been writing stories since I was very little, so I’m sure many of my influences have been subconscious ones. However! When Christopher Paolini wrote Eragon, I remember thinking ‘hey if one homeschooled weirdo can do it so can I!”

11. Was there a fic that made you cry?

Pretty sure everything soft and magical that Phoenix @alienfuckeronmain has ever written has made me cry. Including her recent girl direction fic that I had the absolute honor of cheerleading for. I think about that underpass scene all the goddamn time. Um... Nina @pattern-pals wrote this STUNNING girl direction serpent fic that left me a fucking mess, like it was HOLY and I wanted to run to the nearest cathedral and jump in a vat of holy water and scream into stained glass windows, that type of holy. I *sobbed* myself to sleep reading the end of the world fic (I forget the name, I’ll never read it again, it hurt too badly) you know the classic one. God. Ya. Um, but in the GOOD tears category I absolutely bawled at @crinkle-eyed-boo ‘s While You Were Sleeping AU, and I am usually not a rom com sappy type of person but it hit ALL the right notes and I loved it so fucking much.

OK K.O. Episodes Review!

I got Hulu Live just to watch em!

Gar Trains Punching Judy: A great funny episode, with the starring role of Melissa Villasenor doing some great work which I greatly enjoyed! It was also a pretty meaningful episode, showing Gar getting himself a bit more emotionally stable after all the hardships of his life- and all in all, it was funny seeing how K.O. was just plopped into this plot without really having any big role in it! 10 outta 10 for this one!

Beach Episode: This is a pretty nice, chill episode I think- I like the idea of them having a second job exclusively for the summer at the beach, even if it probably won’t appear again after this! Beach episodes are always fun, and this is no exception! I love Enid’s Naruto-style training, along with her Jaws-style revenge! And the fact that Raymond’s “swimsuit” is just a speedo and nothing else is just feeding into that fanart and that Radmond~ that Baywatch reference managed to be simultaneously subtle and glaringly obvious, and the landfill plot comes off as a lot less preachy when it’s combined with all this silliness with all the fun beach combat. ANyone else love that Raymond of all people is the one to agree with working together? All in all, this was a great episode, ten outta ten! (P.S. Rad and Raymond were put on the same board, coincidence or ship tease?) OK A.U.: Heck yeah, a canon alternate universe! This is definitely not the way I expected this episode to begin, with a “our life is much harder than yours” kinda plot, but it is a great way to begin an episode about being transported to another universe! I kinda hope that the Alternate Universe Warlock becomes a popular character in the fandom due to how easy he’d be to use for fanfiction! I love this perspective into what its like to be a Boxbot- unlike Mr. Gar, he doesn’t show any sympathy and is perfectly willing to reboot you if you ever disobey! It makes being a Boxbot seem kinda scary, although that was kind of a given. And man, I love the way these humanizations of the Boxbots look, exactly how I would’ve imagined them! I loved how the original moral ended up being completely thrown away when it turns out that when he created this alternate universe, he didn’t give them the same memories. And nice callback to the “Let’s Watch the Pilot” episode! ten outta ten, hopefully this becomes a popular one!

K.O.’s Health Week: This episode has such a Sesame Street vibe to it, or like an episode of a cartoon from the ninetees where they were forced to give out morals without any relevance to the plot or characters. In fact, I am totally certain that this is meant to be a parody of those kinda kid’s shows, with K.O. in place of someone like Elmo or Sonic from Sonic Sez. This episode is definitely establishing K.O. as having some pretty wacky toonforce, being able to just climb into someone’s mouth and shrink into the size of a tiny toothbrush to literally wipe out plaque. This episode seems like it was both meant as a way to teach cute lessons to kids and as a way to show K.O.’s trait of wanting to be a hero to anyone. I enjoy the way they managed to rope in the Boxbots into the plot, and both this and Beach Episode show that in the right circumstances, they can get along well! It looks like this episode might’ve been more than just a silly “the more you know” gag- it was showing that K.O. needs to take care of himself! It’s nice to see that even though the Boxbots still got pummelled, they were on good terms with K.O. by the end. Maybe eventually we’ll have a plot with the Boxbots questioning their villainy? Anyway, ten outta ten for this!

Rad’s Alien Sickness: I absolutely love this already, with Venomous and Fink getting their own villainous intro to signify their new role in Boxmore! I had no idea we would get to the point of biological warfare being used against the Bodega Trio, but Venomous is the kind to definitely pull that off! It seems maybe they were using Rad’s persistence against him in order to make them fall apart, which is pretty clever for someone who hasn’t been there for that long. Their depiction of Rad’s sickness managed to be pretty gross without being overly realistic, as all fluids are replaced with just blue. I love how K.O. has proved to be the perfect pal, helping his friends with whatever is ailing them, and the fact that he got desperate enough to use leeches and crystals is adorable and funny. Anyone else surprised to hear the term “enabler” used in a kid’s cartoon? And I just love the fourth wall breaking of them saying they barely see Ernesto! Honestly, this episode just proves how much better of a villain Venomous really is, as he basically using his real villain skills to do what Boxman always wanted to do- almost, at least! Well, ten outta ten, I can’t wait for the finale! (not sure whether that cocooning thing is more funny or creepy.)

Dark Plaza: It should typically be a good sign when an episode begins with a cheesy laughtrack and everyone being happy, but the last episode to do that was Let’s Take a Moment, an episode packed with big reveals and twists, so I am already feeling something coming. And already I was right, with Foxtail and Elodie showing up with a bunch of construction workers and giant pointy ships! THis episode is already getting heavy, with the supposed hero wanting to bulldoze Lakewood Plaza to start extracting glorbs and Carol’s secret being revealed to Gar! Oh boy, I love the parallels- in the heat of the moment, Gar is telling off Carol and saying something he’s bound to regret while it rains down hard, just like Carol did all those years ago. Gar seems to have completely given up and is gone, time will only tell if it lasts. Oh boy, subversion of expectations- instead of T.K.O. coming out to save the day, he’s stopped from fighting, and two months pass to reveal that they actually did win! Villains win! I mean, heroes win really, but you get it. It’s pretty dope that the heroes have formed a resistance, and they have such cool new outfits which I bet will get plenty of fanart! The fact that Mr. Gar had the blueprints to the Plaza encoded with holographic morse is pretty clever, and I am into this fun heist mission being pulled off! Ms. Mummy’s appearance was a surprise indeed, and I also didn’t think we’d get to see P.K.O. again, but this episode is full of surprises! The callback to the Key to the Plaza from the Plazalympics is pretty cool, as I was almost certain that was just a gag. It probably originally was a gag, but now it’s not! I also love the fact that Plazamo from Crinkly Wrinkly’s story turned out to be real, and he wasn’t just making stuff up- he just has a weird way of remembering things. I am very hopeful that Elodie will come around- she seemed remorseful back then when she actually destroyed the plaza, but it seems now she’s been completely turned. This episode is doing well to prove both how tough K.O. is and how powerful Foxtail is, and I love it!

Nice to see Mr. Gar return to save the day, and Carol too! And man, Elodie is stone-cold brutal- turning on her own superior just to prove she can, and that all in all she still loves Enid. It’s also sweet that they’re still having such an emotional moment with her even after all she’s done- Foxtail did have good intentions, after all. I think that all in all, that was a pretty good season finale. I expected something with Shadowy Figure, and sadly we didn’t really get any hints at it, but I’m sure next season is gonna do something about that. Eleven outta ten!

Bungie Weekly Update - 4/4/19

This week at Bungie, we’re getting ready for some high voltage.

A storm is brewing. Next week, we’ll kick off what we’ve been calling Arc Week. Our goal for this happening has been to take the element that makes our sandbox crackle and put it under the microscope. The most noticeable update is that we improved many Arc subclass paths from the time before Forsaken. The week will also feature Arc Singe and Arc Bounties to synergize with your updated abilities. To provide a proving grounds for all this new energy, Mayhem will be available in the Crucible to let you experiment with your enhanced Arc abilities using shockingly short cooldowns.

Arc Week will also feature one of the most powerful Arc weapons ever created, the Thunderlord Exotic Machine Gun. If you weren’t able to complete the quest to obtain Thunderlord last year, you will have from April 9 to April 23 to revisit the Cosmodrome and add it your collection.

A Spark Can Give Life... or Take It

Arc Week buffs up several Arc subclasses.

Designer Dan Gniady has all the details on what changes you can expect.

Dan: After the release of Forsaken, the sandbox team wanted to revisit some older subclass paths and freshen them up a bit. This entailed tuning for balance as well as quality-of-life fixes. We’ve also added new functionality to a couple of subclasses. In update 2.2.1, we're focusing on Arc subclasses for Titans, Hunters, and Warlocks to kick off Arc Week. That said, we also made a couple needed changes to non-Arc abilities. Let’s get into it.

Striker Code of the Juggernaut (Bottom Path)

Notes: This path is all about punching enemies to get better at shooting them and shooting enemies to get better at punching them. We want to further incentivize engaging in this loop and make doing so move visible and flashy. Shooting an enemy should make you feel like you are primed to strike with melee. Punching an enemy and releasing your rage will make you feel like a more focused shot.

Frontal Assault:

Now increases all weapon damage for the duration of the buff

25% against combatants

20% against players

Duration increased from 10 to 16 seconds

Buff timer is now displayed on the HUD

Knockout:

Melee damage bonus increased from 25% to 60%

Now also triggers once you have dealt 60% damage to a target

Any damage done after 60% will refresh the timer

Still also triggers off shield pop

No longer consumed after 1 melee attack

Duration increased from 3 to 5 seconds

Arcstrider Way of the Warrior (Top Path)Notes:

This path thrives on striking with precision and timing and is heavily melee focused. To enhance this loop, we are giving it a bit more nuance with a higher potential payout. We want to allow for more room to execute and engage with both the path to success and the benefits once you do succeed.

Combination Blow

Bonus melee damage can now be stacked 3 times (requires a melee ability kill for each stack)

Buff increases melee damage by 60% per stack in PvE

Buff increases melee damage by 22.7% per stack in PvP

For comparison, this ability used to be 1 stack and increased melee damage by 50%

Kills with this ability now heal 40 health in addition to starting health regen

Deadly Reach:

Increased buff duration from 6 to 8 seconds

Buff is no longer consumed by a melee hit

Arcstrider Way of the Wind (Bottom Path)

Notes: This path is about quick movement and thriving under pressure. We want to increase your ability to survive while at low health and enhance your elusiveness so you can be more confident when in danger. This way, you don't just get a bonus when you’re injured, you have more control over what state you are in, and you can make more risk/reward choices.

Disorienting Blow:

Increased the disorient distance by 50%

Increased duration of disorient on players from 1.5 to 2 seconds

Focused Breathing:

Increased dodge recharge bonus while sprinting by 100%

Combat Meditation:

Increased bonus grenade and melee regeneration while bloodied by 25%

Lightning Reflexes:

Increased damage resistance while dodging from 25% to 40% in PvP

Increased damage resistance while dodging from 63% to 70% In PvE

Stormcaller Stormtrance Super (Top and Bottom Path)

Damage scales up to 150% over 5 seconds of continuous use of the attack

Updated FX and audio to support this functionality

Stormcaller Attunement of Conduction (Top Path)

Notes: This path focuses prominently on chain lightning, but we also want to better sell the fantasy of being a god of erratic and dangerous energy. We want you to be delighted and surprised by the chaos you cause. On top of that, we should make the choice of using your abilities something to better strategize around, and reward you for doing so.

Chain Lightning Melee

Can now chain up to 5 times, up from 1, and each individual target can be hit twice

Chain damage decreased from 50 to 31 damage per chain hit

Arc Web

Can now chain to many (many) more targets, and back and forth between targets

The amount of chaining varies based on use, and I will leave it to you all to discover!

Increase chain range from 10 meters to 12 meters

Chaining Arc damage now reduces the cooldown of your grenade

Works with Arc Web chains and chains from Chain Lightning Melee

Earn 3% energy per instance of chain damage in PvE

Earn 10% energy per instance of chain damage in PvP

Stormcaller Attunement of the Elements (Bottom Path)

Notes: Currently this path focuses on creating drone buddies for allies and staying close to them to dish out more Rifts and the buddies therein. Generally, Arc drone is short-lived, and you need to stay close to your Rift to keep it around. Now you will be able to take your pal further and, if you stick with friends, will be able to have it around much more often, making this path more potent as support.

Electrostatic Surge:

Increased bonus regeneration rate of Rift by 600% per nearby friendly Guardian

This sounds insane, and it’s a big boost you will definitely feel, but it was previously very low.

Extends Rift duration from 15 to 20 seconds

Added a UI notification for when the buff is active

Arc Soul:

Extended duration by 50%.

Now let’s talk about some non-Arc Changes, as well…

Voidwalker Nova Warp Super

Notes: Clearly we swung a bit hard when we hit this previously. This should serve as a nice middle ground to settle into.

Reduced initial charged detonation energy cost by 20%

Reduced energy cost of holding the charged detonation by 7%

Reduced time required to fully charge the charged detonation from 0.9 seconds to 0.7 seconds

Reduced Dark Blink cost by 20%

Increased base Super duration from 18 seconds to 22 seconds

Dawnblade Everlasting Fire Perk

Notes: Similar to the Striker, we wanted to make sure this perk didn’t allow for infinite Supers in certain activities. We’ve increased the amount you get back upfront but put diminishing returns on it so you can’t go forever. This will still be a Super you can extend much longer with skill.

Tuned the amount of Super gained from Everlasting Fire

Initial return increased from 10% to 13% Super energy

Return then decays linearly over the course of 30 kills from 13% to 0.75% returned per kill

You may be asking “What about Spectral blades???”

We know it’s out of bounds and are working right now on a few tweaks to bring it back in line. We’ll let you know the details once we’ve finished play testing and tuning to lock in on what the changes will be.

An invasion kill will heal 8% of the Primeval's health, down from 12%

The invasion portal cooldown time during the Primeval phase will be increased to 40 seconds, up from 30 seconds

This cooldown triggers after a player has been killed or successfully returns from an invasion

Gambit Prime will now count to unlock the Weekly Gambit Clan Engram

Quests and Bounties

Power Surge Bounties that have been deleted or expired will now be available on the Drifter

Each bounty can still be completed only once per character

Yes Sir, I'm a Closer Weekly Gambit Prime bounty will now award 4 points for a win and 2 points for a loss, with a completion value of 20 points

All 4 weekly role bounties for Gambit Prime now grant powerful helmet rewards

Destiny 2 Update 2.2.1

Next Tuesday, on April 9, Destiny 2 will undergo maintenance and Update 2.2.1 is scheduled to go live. No downtime is expected during this maintenance; however, players who have not yet updated to version 2.2.1 by 1 PM PDT will be returned to the title screen.

Please see below for the timeline of this deployment window:

9 AM PDT (1600 UTC):

Destiny 2 service maintenance is scheduled to begin with no expected downtime.

Update 2.2.1 will begin rolling out across all platforms and regions.

Destiny Companion features will be unavailable on web, mobile, and third-party apps.

1 PM PDT (2000 UTC):

Destiny 2 service maintenance is scheduled to conclude.

Players who have not yet installed Update 2.2.1 will be removed from activities and returned to the title screen.

1:15 PM PDT (2015 UTC):

Destiny Companion features will be re-enabled on web, mobile, and third-party apps.

Console players who encounter issues updating to 2.2.1 should reset their console and try downloading the update.

The following known issues are expected to be resolved after the launch of Destiny 2 Update 2.2.1 on Tuesday, April 9.

Like a Diamond Triumph: Players who became eligible for the “Like a Diamond” Triumph during the window when it was not available will have this Triumph unlocked retroactively following the 2.2.1 update. Impacted players will receive a notice in game when this fix begins rolling out to their accounts.

Acting Bad, Looking Good Pursuit: The “Acting Bad, Looking Good” pursuit is not completing for players using a full set of Ancient Apocalypse armor.

Obsidian Crystal: The Obsidian Crystal doesn't always drop for players on the Unidentified Frame quest step for Izanagi’s Burden.

Wish-Ender: Players cannot see behind walls with Wish-Ender while invisible.

The Vow Infusion: The Vow cannot be infused above 650 Power.

BrayTech RWP Mk. II Infusion: BrayTech RWP Mk. II cannot be infused above 600 Power.

Stronghold Power Ammo: Stronghold consumes Power ammo when blocking with Black Talon.

The Weight of Guilt: The Weight of Guilt emblem does not display its purchase price after it has been unlocked for purchase from Lord Saladin.

One more thing before we close This Week out. There have been a lot of questions about the future of the Crucible in Destiny, and what plans we have to support PvP going forward. Yesterday, we let you know during a stream that we have no plans to remove PVP from the Destiny franchise.

A lot of feedback on Crucible and how it could improve comes in the form of suggested sandbox changes that would impact the flow of combat in PvP. As you can see from the section above, we are still committed to updating the sandbox as frequently as we can, and we have an update going out next week. We have bigger Crucible changes being planned for later this year, but we aren’t ready to talk about those plans just yet. We hope to share more with you sometime this summer. In the meantime, we will continue to provide updates to matchmaking, QOL fixes, Sandbox balance, and Glory changes.

Practicality/Theorem Fun Facts!

I wrote this a while ago but I forgot to save it when I moved blogs. So! Before the sequel goes up, I’m re-writing it to give you all a refresher! It has been 2 months! Edit: Chapter 1 of the sequel is now up!

Logan

Abilities: Telekinesis/mind reader

Stereotypical sweater vest nerd with telekinesis

Brown hair and hazel eyes that almost glow gold when he uses abilities (Sometimes, very rarely blue??? Why???)

He tries hiding it through his glasses

“No, that was probably just the sun on my glasses.”

He doesn’t talk about his past much but has let it slip his parents were very supportive of his abilities

was very open about using them when he was younger

He tries not using them AT ALL if he can help it

The others convinced him to be a bit more laid back about it

He’s found himself at least moving or catching things from time to time

Has a bachelor’s degree but doesn’t use it anymore

He used to do online work and work from home but now just works at a bookstore with another job at a bakery (he’s worked there before)

He wears a plain black shirt with a tie when he goes to work--it makes him look nice but not too formal

Patton thinks he looks like a school teacher when he does

I always hinted he was probably on the ace spectrum--he’s Biromantic

It took forever to recognize and admit his feelings for Patton

He’s a hopeless nerd sometimes

Totally doesn’t have a tragic backstory

Patton

Abilities: Multiply(he can make near perfect copies of himself)/Empath

Patton has a love for terrible graphic tees/sweaters with puns and Argyle patterns

Like he even has argyle socks he wears sometimes

It’s mostly just comfy sweaters/shirts

He’s actually the shortest of the group, just barely shorter than Logan

He’s 5′7 and Logan’s 5′9

Despite that, he is the oldest of the group

He has blue eyes and his hair is wavy/almost curly and he just lets it do what it wants

He does have some light freckles on his face and arms you wouldn’t notice at first

He’s an only child and his parents baby him a bit too much sometimes

His mom doesn’t like his powers and tells him he can be ‘normal’ if he wants

Honestly it’s because she’s a bit of a worrywart and just wants to keep Patton safe

He likes his pals though and would never give them up!

He’s very overprotective of 3 since an incident...

his dad is a bit more laid back but stopped getting in between the two

Works in a library as a tech

literally everyone knows him because he’s so friendly

I’ve mentioned he ‘doesn’t care to find where he is LGBT+’ wise. He just ‘loves everyone equally’

Logan is pretty sure he’s Pansexual but doesn’t question it further. You don’t need a label!

Virgil

Abilities: Time control (Can freeze and break away from time)/Time travel (Creates portals when he does so)

Virgil buys his clothes almost exclusively at thrift stores

His NASA hoodie he wears sometimes isn’t vintage by choice, it’s just really that old

He loves buying old clothes and adding his own touches to them

Like this black hoodie he added purple plaid patches to he loves and wears the most

most of his style involves hoodies

He got into makeup when his Ex took him to the ren faire and he dressed up like an evil warlock but keeps it very laid back

Working at a craft store has taught him a lot too

He learned how to knit simply because an old lady made a joke about how the needles make great self-defense weapons

also he learned it’s good for his anxiety

he doesn’t share any of that though

He looks to be almost as tall as Roman but is actually sliiightly taller

He slouches a lot so he seems shorter than he is

His brown hair is so dark it looks black, same as his brown eyes

Obviously the palest of everyone

Has always had weird odds and ends jobs at local mom and pop stores (That’s how he sticks it to the man)

currently has been working at this one for a while, his longest lasting job

He loves his bosses because they keep people away from him as long as he gets his work done

Also the wife also suffers from anxiety so they accommodate him very well

Has dated mostly men in the past but is bisexual

His dad was a little freaked out about his powers but has come to just accept it

His mother died when he was younger and he still wishes he could have done more to help her

Hates his powers but mostly uses them to get through panic attacks and other issues alone(and naps)

Not the best coping mechanism and he knows it, but he’d rather suffer silently alone then look like a mess in front of someone else

Definitely perfectly okay after the ending of Practicality

Roman

Abilities: Electromagnetic Manipulation/Pretty much a walking battery/magnet

When he decides to dress casual, most of his clothes seem to come from the Disney store

Other than that, you will always find him dressed semi-formal

Button down shirts, dress pants and open jacket are staple Roman attire most days(jacket optional)

Roman has spent more and more of his time outside and running around dressed up in a Prince costume trying to ‘be a hero’ and ‘save the world from evil’

His first costume was from one of his theater shows

He’s very much into dressing up and costumes and makeup and acting though he doesn’t let it slip into his normal life ‘much’

Everyone knows he's in denial about that though

His hair is light brown and his eyes are brown/hazel

He’s also a bit tan. (I always imagined him hispanic)

He makes up for the blandness in appearance in everything else he does

His prince’s outfit comes with a masquerade mask and his hair is usually slicked back

His parents and friends growing up all knew about his abilities

he described it as that ‘one character trait everyone has’ like wearing glasses so they thought nothing of it

He never formally came out as gay, his parents just accepted it and kinda had a feeling

He is the only one with another sibling--a little sister named Julie

She has no powers but always thought her brother would be taken away to become an X-Men when she was younger

They bicker and fight but she looks up to him a lot and while fulfilling her sisterly duties of being annoying, she would do anything for Ro.

His parents have and I quote “the best romance love story in history” which is why they named their kids Roman and Julie. (*cough Romeo and Juliet cough*)

He has a fan club, did you know about it?

He’s totally a real superhero with an actual fan club and it’s awesome

Went to college to get the degree his parents wanted and got a desk job

lost it shortly before moving in with the others

Life has been a roller coaster since then

Thomas

Abilities: Power absorption (Hmm, guess there is no second one, huh? ;) Strange...) EDIT: Power amplification! Surprise!

Totally didn’t have powers until he was greeted by this guy one day

Tried telling him he had abilities and just kind of freaked him out

Something weird happened and the guy kind of walked away and he tried to forget the whole thing

Met him months later and learned he copied abilities???

He told his closest friend Joan about the whole weird situation and gave him the address he was going to for answers when he left

Turns out he DOES have powers, who knew?

These guys just made his life a whole lot more interesting and stressful

You know the story, it’s Thomas, guys!

Life after the whole mess has been weird for him

Logan keeps looking at him weird but pretty much all his memories have returned

He gets random facts wrong he swore he knew

Someone will ask him a question and he will freeze, drawing a blank

Patton keeps in contact a lot and lets him know whats going on

While he doesn’t hang out with the group often since they all moved, he keeps in contact with all of the others in some way

He’s already invited to movie night at the new place

Secretly follows ‘Princey’s’ actions throughout the city to make sure Roman isn’t doing anything too stupid

Visits Virgil sometimes when Talyn needs stuff for some random thing they’re making

He tries to catch Logan at work and gets a new book when he can

Has grown closer to Logan who has a strange interest in his powers...

Darker & More Progressive, 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' Returns for Season 2

“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is back on Netflix and it is darker and more progressive than before.

The first season of "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" reshaped the Sabrina franchise for fans and casual viewers. Before Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa brought his version of the Archie comic book to Netflix last year, most people associated Sabrina with the 90s sitcom that was part of ABC's iconic T.G.I.F. programming block, "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," starring Melissa Joan Hart. When Aguirre-Sacasa's take on the show debuted, it totally flipped the script, making "Sabrina" one of the darkest and most progressive teen dramas of this generation. In Season 2 — or "Part 2" as Netflix calls it — "Sabrina" continues to push boundaries and the limits of a teen soap. Its sister show "Riverdale," about Archie Andrews and his pals in the titular town, airs on the CW and is bound by typical network restrictions (although it certainly does get away with a lot!). Being on a streaming service like Netflix, "Sabrina" is allowed to be as twisted, graphic and forward-thinking as it wants; no subject is too taboo here. But the issues Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) and her friends face in Season 2 are handled smartly and with care, never feeling exploitative or rash and feel like teachable moments (even when the Dark Lord is lurking around the corner) without being too preachy. Season 2 is less plot-driven than Season 1, which focused on Sabrina, who is half witch and half mortal, and her decision if she'll sign the Book of the Beast, effectively giving her soul to the Dark Lord in order to become a full-fledge witch. Now that she's acclimated to her new life, taking classes at the prestigious Academy of the Unseen Arts, Season 2 sprawls out and takes the time to be more of a coming-of-age drama. Most notably, "Sabrina" is a queer show, including a number of LGBTQ characters, like Sabrina's warlock cousin Ambrose (Chance Perdomo) who is pansexual. Many of Sabrina's classmates from the Academy aren't specifically labeled as queer but they're seen being sexually fluid, giving the show a progressive tone without being explicit and try hard. Susie (Lachlan Watson) has been on a path of self-discovery through Season 1 and that continues in Season 2 as she tries out for the boys' basketball team. Her attempt to join the team and use the boys' locker room has awful consequences but it also leads to a powerful transformation.

Elsewhere, "Sabrina" pulls out some tried-and-true teen soap tropes. Sabrina and her boyfriend Harvey (Ross Lynch) have split up but she's moved on to the tall-dark-handsome-and mysterious warlock and Academy classmate Nicholas (Gavin Leatherwood). It's a classic setup where we watch a protagonist leave a partner the audience knows to be good for someone possibly nefarious. But "Sabrina" adds another layer here with Harvey developing feelings for Sabrina's BFF, Roz (Jaz Sinclair), who is dealing with her own trauma of slowly going blind, which also gives her a sixth sense. Meanwhile, Sabrina's aunt Zelda (the delicious Miranda Otto) is continuing her relationship with Father Faustus Blackwood (Richard Coyle), the High Priest of the Church of Night and dean of the Academy, which ends up being a central conflict of Season 2. Another mysterious plot line this season is the Dark Lord suddenly calling on Sabrina, tasking her with twisted tasks that she must perform or risk her loved ones being in danger. Like Season 1, Season 2 is incredibly stylized and sexy. One of the best episodes is "Lupercalia," a pre-Roman holiday that's the dark world's version of Valentine's Day. It's an exciting episode where the romances driving "Sabrina" come to a head but it's considered and filmed brilliantly, full with excellent music drops. It's also a striking episode when Sabrina decides to confide in her aunts about having sex for the first time. It is a frank but open discussion that's not treated like a scandalous moment but a tender one that's insightful and warm.

Though "Riverdale" may be limited by the FCC, it does benefit from time constraints, running about 45 minutes an episode. Netflix, of course, doesn't have ads and its programs can range from 15 minutes to...more indulgent running times. "Sabrina" falls in the latter category with episodes clocking in just about one hour or a few minutes over. Some episodes in Season 2 drag and viewers may really feel that hour, especially in episode four "Doctor Cerberus's House of Horror." It feels like a filler episode — similar to the classic "Treehouse of Horror" episodes from "The Simpsons"— but...not as good. It also happens to be the longest episode of the five Netflix provided for review. Despite its occasional bumps, fans of the first installment of "Sabrina" will be delighted with where Season 2 goes. Aguirre-Sacasa's vision of the teenage witch is a radical approach but a necessary one, creating a teen show that isn't afraid of darkness and taking the time to tackle some difficult teen topics.

Vanguard Poker Night

Suraya Hawthorne never realized there would be so many intricacies of her position as Clan Stewardess in the City. She had a seat on the Consensus, representing the interests of humanity (yes, her, she can’t believe it either). There was also the full gamut of civil events she was required to attend - galas, festivals, groundbreakings, surveys, the list carries on and on and on, the faction events she was required to attend (ugh, honestly could one of them be slightly not-creepy for one), and of course, the Vanguard sanctioned events she was required to attend. Bit weird being the only human - Amanda didn’t count since she’d essentially grown up with Guardians and didn’t notice the difference - but she made due.

And they did do some normal activities.

Like, every third Friday - when the war was relatively maintained and no major threats beside the usual were threatening the solar system - was Vanguard Poker Night. Of course, she was okay not being invited, especially since she really didn’t want to lose all her glimmer to Amanda or Cayde, but both insisted she had to join, and both insisted she would not lose any glimmer. It seemed like a lie to her, but then again...

They also told her to meet them in the hall at 22:00 in her normal gear. Plus weapons.

Okay, so maybe in hindsight the Vanguard didn’t do normal activities. Maybe they just called them that and hoped nobody would notice? Or, maybe she was just overreacting. Social situations - even with people she worked with on the regular (now, at least) - weren’t exactly her strong suit.

In any case, Suraya pulled her poncho over her head, clipped her sidearm to her belt at the small of her back(never can be too prepared), tucked in her knife to her boot, and strapped her rifle to her back before grabbing the best darn moonshine the Farm made - apple pie - and throwing it in her pack. Seeing as they took the time to invite her, she figured she’d share.

Also, they promised to bring her more on the next supply run, and moonshine was great for making friends and learning dirty secrets. And since Cayde and Amanda are absolutely going to annihilate her in poker - she can’t bluff to save her life and she knows it - it makes sense to get them ridiculously drunk.

A girl’s gotta even the playing field somehow.

There’s nothing surprising to her about the scene she walks into. Zavala and Ikora - because they have class, unlike the rest of them - are sharing a bottle of wine, it placed between them with two glasses filled about a third of the way. Polite, the both of them. Ikora nods to Suraya when she enters, and Suraya waves, other arm holding the jug of amber liquid.

Amanda pops up like a daisy to greet the newcomer, bottle of beer in one hand and a case of it on the ground beside what is presumably her chair. “Hey girl, whatcha got there?”

Suraya extends the jug, shaking it a little for show. Cinnamon sticks float happily around in the jug. “Just the finest moonshine in the solar system.”

Ikora’s brows furrow. “That does not look like moonshine, Hawthorne.” A hum to the Warlock’s right signifies that Zavala agrees.

“And besides,” Cayde quips, appearing from out of nowhere and slinging an arm around her shoulders, “There is no way this is the best moonshine in the system. You’ve never even been off planet. You have no idea what the galaxy has to offer.”

The slightest pull of her lips has Hawthorne smirking as she shrugs out of his hold. “Well, none of you have had this before, I guarantee it. It’s the first batch of the Farm’s Apple Pie Moonshine, straight from the cellar. Hasn’t been any ready since before the war.” She sets the jug down to Zavala’s right, between him and Cayde, where she’ll be sitting for the night. Amanda’s already situated herself across from Zavala at the round table. “And besides,” She levels Cayde with a grin, “I know you were trying to convince Devrim to smuggle you some through his scouts. Still the leader of the Farm, bud.” She jerks a thumb to her chest. “Any requests for the good stuff still go through me.”

Amanda chuckles. “She’s got you there, pal. May as well surrender.”

By the time Suraya grabs a rocks glass from a separate table against the wall and returns, Amanda is shuffling the deck like she works at a casino for a living. Suraya sighs, drawing Zavala’s attention away from the fluttering sound of cards zipping through the blonde’s hands, and pops the cork on the moonshine.

The smell permeates the air almost immediately, and Suraya relaxes, pouring her glass almost up to the rim. She looks at the two Vanguards’ wine glasses all respectable-like and shakes her head.

“What?” The Commander asks, turning toward her.

Suraya takes a sip of the moonshine, licking her lips as she sets the glass back down. “Damn is that good.” She glances at Zavala. “Nothing. Just can’t understand what the point of not filling your glass up all the way.”

“It’s to preserve the essence of the wine, Hawthorne.” Ikora interrupts. “It is part of the experience. You get a full sense of the color and can open up the bouquet to enjoy the subtle aromas by doing so.”

Suraya shrugs, not buying it. “If you say so. If you want to try some moonshine, just say the word.” She flicks her gaze back to the Titan, still leaned toward her. “You too, Commander.”

Zavala hums, and when Ikora is distracted by Cayde saying something stupidly funny, he whispers close to her ear. “Wait until she loses a few hands. That wine glass will be full in no time.”

Suraya turns her head; Their noses nearly touch. She smirks, and the lines around his eyes resemble a secret smile. They don’t notice Amanda or Cayde grinning at each other at the other side of the table when Ikora’s chuckle stops. For her part, Ikora leans back, eager to watch the trainwreck that is this game night commence.

Hand one is just to make sure that Suraya knows how to play. She does. She is not very good at it, but she can play. Cayde and Amanda look thrilled. Zavala hands out coin purses.

“Dad won’t let us play with real money,” Cayde says, chugging a glass of something that looks and smells like jet fuel for his refined Exo palette. “So, here’s the tokens we use. Whomever ends up with the most loot at the end of the night gets one favor of their choice, and the losers have to acquiesce. No exceptions.”

Zavala, still grumbling over being called ‘dad,’ pipes up, “Within reason, Cayde. You always seem to forget that nothing publicly humiliating is considered a favor.”

Cayde grouses and mimes as Zavala speaks. “Yeah, yeah, says the guy who hasn’t won one of these in at least a decade.”

“I absolutely have.”

Ikora gives him some incredible side-eye before regarding Hawthorne. “Yes, because he paid me to give him the victory so he could convince Cayde to actually fulfill the tasks of his job.”

“AHA!” Cayde springs to his feet as Zavala glares daggers at the Warlock. “The truth comes out.”

Suraya smiles, tilts her glass towards Zavala, looking for him to clink his glass against her own. “Drink up. I’m sure I’m worse than you. I haven’t really played poker in a while.”

He does, and surprises her by finishing his glass after they clink theirs together. When he reaches for the wine bottle, she tips more moonshine into her own glass and slides it to him. He looks at her. She shrugs, retreating to get another glass.

“If you don’t like it, I’ll take my glass back and share with Amanda.”

He takes the barest sip, truly giving himself a moment to experience the flavor. Apple, cinnamon, no burn. It doesn’t taste like alcohol. Suraya’s eyebrow is raised in a question. He raises the glass to his lips once more, maintaining eye contact. Sets the glass down, closer to him than to her. The smile she gives him is mostly teeth and a peek of tongue. She pours her own glass and sets it beside her.

“Well I’ll be,” Amanda says, shaking her head and gesturing toward the Commander. “You could still share this-a-way, y’know.”

“Finish your beer, Amanda. Then we’ll talk.”

Hand Two:

Suraya lays her cards on the table. “Read ‘em and weep.” She reaches out, grabs the decent pot sized, and pulls it toward her.

Amanda and Cayde roll their eyes as she and the Commander clink glasses.

Ikora smiles and almost imperceptibly shakes her head.

Hand Seven:

“That’s not a good idea, Hawthorne,” Zavala is telling her. “He’s going to-”

She pushes her winnings in with some of her reserves.

Cayde doesn’t clean her out like he’s predicted, but Amanda does.

The Shipwright flips a piece of hair out of her eyes. “I’ll give you some of this back if you share the moonshine.”

Suraya sighs and lifts the jug in defeat. Zavala intercepts her, refilling his glass with a hand over hers guiding the pour, the other hand popping the cork with deft fingers. “Wait until you’re desperate,” He advises seriously.

“Zavala!” Ikora chastises. Not that she has any room to say anything, her glass is creeping above the socially acceptable level of full, and she’s halfway through the second bottle of wine with minimal help from the Titan next to her.

He looks at Ikora with a wide-eyed look that makes him seem far younger than his years. “What? It’s good!”

Amanda guffaws. “You will share some of that, both of you.”

Suraya shrugs, and Zavala opens his coin pouch, pouring several tokens into his hand and handing them over to her. “Not this time, Holliday,” He says.

“Uh, Suraya?” The Shipwright ventures, “How potent is that?”

“Can’t be more than hundred, maybe ninety-proof. I like it pretty sweet. Why?”

Amanda nods. She looks at the Commander. Smiles at him. “No reason.”

Hand Eleven:

“Alright, ten tokens will buy you in.”

Zavala looks up at the rest of them. “I’m out.”

“How many do you need?” Suraya leans over, looking between the walls that are his arms. He has six tokens left. She looks over at her own meager collection. She really overdid it. “Well, I don’t have enough either.” She looks over at Cayde, this round’s dealer. “Can I propose something different?”

Cayde and Amanda look at each other. Amanda chirps, “Your partner in crime gonna stop hoggin’ all the moonshine?”

The Exo puts a hand out in front of Amanda. “Now, now. When you deal, you can demand moonshine as payment.” He strokes his chin with a metal and silicone hand. “I’ll let you and Big Blue in this round for the poncho.”

“That’s a horrible idea,” Ikora says. “We never play for-”

Suraya stands, criss crosses her arms, and tugs the bottom of her garment upward. It lands in front Cayde in a heap. “Not for keeps.”

“No, but I will borrow it for a week if I win this thing.”

“Fine. Don’t defile it.”

“Deal.”

“Suraya, this is a terrible idea.”

“This is a risk.” She takes a drink and licks her lips to get the last of the flavor. Ikora has been shaking her head at their antics for the last three hands. “So you better win this round for me, Commander.”

“Win on your own. This isn’t a team activity.” He has the audacity to smirk at her.

The three people on the other side of the table regard the Commander with surprise. Suraya ignores it. “You’re a bastard, you know that?” She shoves him, hard.

He doesn’t move, and raises an eyebrow when he realizes the rest are watching him intently. “Why are you looking at me?”

“Suraya?” Ikora’s cheshire grin is something to behold. Cayde and Amanda follow suit, and the table is suddenly very much divided.

Before the Commander can realize what’s happened, she tops off his glass. “You, drink. The rest of you: That’s my name. Feel free to use it.”

“Since when does he use it?” Cayde asks slyly. “Why does he use it? How does he say it? I need specific examples here.”

She scoffs, shoving him now, instead. Cayde’s metal body has far more give and that’s saying something. Suraya growls. “He uses it because we work together more than you do.”

Ikora takes an elegant pull from her glass, punctuated by a less elegant snort. “Clearly.”

Hand Fourteen:

“It’s either the booze or my shirt.”

Zavala unstraps the larger of his two pauldrons and slams it on the table, buckles clattering.

“Keep your shirt on, this isn’t strip poker.”

Hand Fifteen:

“I won!” Hawthorne swings her arms out and nearly takes out the open bottle of moonshine. Zavala grabs it with steady hands. “Cough it up,” She says, turning to him.

“I beg your pardon?”

“You bet me three hands ago that if I won another hand tonight you’d give me that grubby tea towel of yours.”

“I did not-”

“You did.” Cayde points up, and Sundance, his ghost pops into existence with a chirp and an audio replay that confirms he did, in fact, agree to it, but it was two hands ago.”

He grumbles. “What do you even want it for, anyway? Certainly you are going to lose it like you’ve lost the rest of your winnings.”

She looks at him with something that’s simultaneously lava hot and ice cold. Her lips purse. “I’m going to take it and wear it around the Tower and let them all wonder about what I’m really doing with you.”

“Ooooh yeah.” Cayde whoops, catching both of their attention. His optics blink. “I mean, you guys have something going on, right? This tension is just,” The Hunter gestures vaguely.

Suraya looks at him with a gaze that could kill, he’s sure of it. Zavala can’t untie his mark fast enough. “No,” She says with a foreboding smile that’s all teeth when he throws it at her in a hurry. “We don’t.”

Hand Twenty-One

“You sure I can’t buy in for my shirt?”

The Titan glares at her.

“Fine.” She fishes his almost empty glass of moonshine out of his grasp and finishes it. “I fold.”

Hand Twenty-Five

“Cayde,” Amanda murmurs, less slur and more focus as she nods in the direction of the man across from her. “Look.”

Ikora has an indulgent smile on her face as she sips more wine. She’s the only one who ever paces herself at these things. She starts hard, feels the buzz, and rides the line. It’s a skill.

Suraya is leaning into Zavala’s personal space, looking at his hand with intense focus. They’ve abandoned their glasses, instead taking turns drinking directly from the bottle that’s only a third full now. The Commander isn’t looking at his hand so much as he’s running a hand through her hair - she lost the tie that held it up in a low bun around hand twelve.

The Hunter Vanguard pats the top of Amanda’s head. He’s swapped his cloak for Hawthorne’s poncho. The group spent most of hands fifteen through twenty telling him how ridiculous he looks. “Oh, I see it, pal. The question is if they see it.”

“Hah! I won!” Cayde hollers, jumping up. “Take that you four!”

Behind him is a stack of miscellaneous armor, Amanda’s leg that he’s totally about to give back because it’s easier than trying to carry her to her room, some knives, and a few miscellaneous weapons.

Amanda shoves him playfully. “Good fer you.”

Ikora smirks at him from over her wine glass. “Congratulations. You’ll have to let us know what your favor is.”

“Yeah, about that.” Cayde looks sly. “You two. Lovebirds.”

The two individuals in question were absolutely not paying attention to anything happening at the other table.

“They’re canoodling,” He proclaims. “Of all the people in the world. Poncho! Zavala! Get a freaking room already. You’ve been making bedroom eyes at each other since like hand two. If you think I’m buying that there’s ‘nothing going on between us,’” He air quotes heatedly, “That ship has sailed. I’m not buying.”

They look over, finally, a combination of flushed skin and sparkling dark eyes. Suraya rises without a word, extending a hand to the Commander. “You heard him. That’s the favor he wants. I’m voting your room, it’s closer.”

“That is not what I-”

“I think it was,” Ikora quips. “What a romantic.”

“Oh you guys suck!” Cayde whines.

Suraya saunters past the Exo, the Commander in tow. She looks at the few drops - maybe a shot - of moonshine left in the bottle in her spare hand, and drops it in front of Amanda. “Here ya go. You’re welcome.” She swings her gaze to Cayde, just over Zavala’s shoulder. “As for you, I expect the poncho to be washed before you give it back. If you stain or rip it, I’ll kill you.”

Amanda tips the remainder of the bottle into her mouth. “Damn. That is good moonshine.”
