Vacay In The Outlands
Tumblr media
The start of Grandpa's vacation in the Outlands. (Just for the record, she hates this dress. I made her wear it though.) It took many attempts to traverse the fence to get on top of the checkpoint, fell off a bunch of times but we finally made it across the border.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Travel tip - Make sure you have plenty of eddies! Vehicle insurance is ridiculous out here!
Tumblr media
After the border checkpoint, we arrived at Langley in style and all V got as a souvenir was posing with this stupid giant coin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Turns out that metaphorical void I kept talking about in my fic is actually real! Right underneath NC, who knew? Wonder where it goes. Wonder if it'll eventually just consume Night City.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Made it to the very scenic town of Yucca (where you start out as a nomad). Construction standards in this place are even worse than in the city.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grandpa went skinny dipping in Star Lake and Laguna Bend Reservoir. Refreshing but bring your decontamination gear. Got some really nice candid photos at Star Lake.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Saw many strange and alien sights in the Outlands. The work of aliens? Or perhaps the technonecromancers? Perhaps tyromancers with computers?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Climbed the crane across the canyon and got a bird's eye view where they filmed Hell Lake 3. After enjoying the view it was time to head out though.
Tumblr media
Said farewell to an old friend along the way.
Tumblr media
The fortress Grandpa stumbled across was not conquerable. She tried. The wall was too high to parkour over, even with a makeshift step stool.
Tumblr media
Is that how baby trucks are made???
Tumblr media
Grandpa trekked far and wide across the map and eventually made it to the Oil Fields.
Tumblr media
Also found out why the area has a million EPA violations.
Tumblr media
Grandpa took a moment to enjoy the view at the end of the road and the last peaceful moments of her weird vacation.
Tumblr media
Back to Night City! (To find some AC and change out of that stupid pink dress.)

Our Lives Illuminated
Chapter Thirteen: REST STOP
[Need a refresher? Our Lives Illuminated is about two friends who go on a road trip in search of Claire’s birth mother, who is living out in California. Having been given up for adoption that fell through, Claire has grown up in foster care, and has not had many people on her side. Now, she has Jamie, and they’ll take the trip of a lifetime together.]
Oh, what’s this?
Yes. After ALMOST A YEAR, I’m finally updating this story. I do really wish I had even more to update you all with, but with the time constraints on me (and the fact that I’m dragging today thanks to the drugs I’ve been told to take to prep for surgery tomorrow) I’m afraid this short chapter is it. I hope, hope hope to have more soon. It just depends on how much time I have.
For some reason OLI Claire&Jamie have just been talking to me lately, and this was flowing rather easily. I hope you like it, and I appreciate all your infinite patience with this and my other stories (which haven’t been forgotten, either!)
Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy!

The trip thus far had been uneventful. Fox had spent most of the time eavesdropping on locals as her classmates drank beer at every pub along the way. It wasn’t that it wasn’t fun, for it was different and exciting, but she had signed up for the history and the architecture, not a hangover. On this particular evening, she found herself wandering the halls of an establishment that was once a laird’s homestead, a castle, that now treated them to themed dinners and pint after pint of original recipe whisky.
Tumblr media
Following a particular dark corridor, Fox found a window that illuminated the full moon. A strange occurrence considering it was still a few days off. The winds were changing, picking up from the highlands and she swore she could hear horses. She turned back, wanting to reach the yard to see if there were indeed horses and found that once dark hall now held torches. Strange. A chill ran through her. Places like this were said to be haunted.
Following the path she thought she had taken, Fox tried to find the main room once more. When she did, or when she thought she did, she found it empty. Nearly frantic, she picked up the pace, nearly jogging until she saw another person, sure that her classmates were only playing a trick. It did not take long to find someone, obviously an actor of the restaurant considering how he was dressed. Perhaps they did some sort of play? Or reenactment?
“Excuse me,” she was happy now that she had studied enough English to get by when lost. “Do you know the way back to the restaurant? I seem to have lost my way.”
✖ @runaljod ❤’d for a starter.

A Holiday
Written for the dual prompts for @fictober-event and writer's write October prompt: Are you Serious and a trip, respectively.
A drabble in the Foster Child Arc 2 universe
Outlander Fanfiction
AO3
She looks at him, mouth open and eyes wide. “Are you serious?”
“Very. I want the bairns to see the Highlands.”
She shakes her head. “A trip with three month old twins. “
“Aye, why not? They sleep well when in the car. We don’t need to keep formula cold. It is doable.”
She lets her breath out. It is true that Brian and Julia sleep with the rocking of the car and nursing makes taking them anywhere, convenient. But...
“How long do you plan to be away?”
“A week or so. Just a mini holiday. Think of the pictures you can get?”
A bit of an eye roll. He knows her language. She had taken thousands of pictures of the twins since their birth. It would be nice to get pictures in a new location, or locations.
“Alright but I insist on good hotels no sleeping in the car or camping.”
He laughs. “A deal. Camping will come later.”
“Oh Lord,” she groans but she is smiling. A family and family holidays. It is what she has always wanted.

Onlies at large
Sometimes (often, even), I can't sleep. And when I can't sleep, I get easily bored, if not focused on something. And there was nothing of particular import on Netflix or Amazon Prime, yesterday night. Aaand, as I don't have access to my bookshelves back home, I went looking for a light something to read myself to the Land of Nod.
I am, since forever, a solid reader of non-fiction. Memoirs, diaries are a special interest, too. So I just wanted to see if there were any nice memoirs of people who went to Scotland in search of a new life/love/whatever, Under The Tuscan Sun -style. Everand/Scribd is a decent starting point for the such, at 2 AM.
There weren't and I wonder why. But as I was browsing around, lo and behold, I found a tiny, self-published memoir by a certain Ninya (not her real name, of course): Scotland with a Stranger (2020).
Great literature it is not. It is naive and the narrative line sounded really, really meh to me: a 43 year old Alabama depressed divorcee finds healing and a renewed purpose for life, while traveling to Scotland with an improbable companion.
So, I skimmed and skimmed and skimmed (FFS, when is she going to PACK, this one?). Then, I found this and no, I am not sorry AT ALL for the length (passages are bolded by me).
Thank you Baby Jesus, she finally made it to her EDI flight:
'(...) I noticed a little emblem on the shirts of many of the women on this flight. It looked like mountains and said Peaker. All the women were laughing and chatting and carrying on like they had known each other forever.
“Is this your first trip to Scotland?” I tried to make small talk with the lady next to me.
“Heavens, no! It’s my sixth.”
“Wow,” I said. “It’s such a big world, but you keep coming back here?”
“Yes, it’s just incredibly beautiful. I never get tired of it. There is no other place as magical on earth.” She smiled wistfully. “I’m actually coming for a gala.”
“A gala?” I parroted back to her. I thought galas were reserved for Barbie movies. In my social circle, no one I knew ever attended a gala.
“Yes! It’s called My Peak Challenge.” She leaned in closer, excited to share. “Have you read the Outlander series?”
“Funny you ask that because I just downloaded the first book.” It seemed like required reading when you went to Scotland. I loved to read and had nothing but time due to my social media fast, so it was sitting unopened on my iPad.
“Well, the character of Jamie is played by Sam Heughan, and he is the founder of My Peak Challenge. It’s not just a club; it’s a movement, and every year they have a gala in Edinburgh. People come from all over the world for this event.”
The germaphobe next to me chimed in. “This is my first year, but he has truly changed my life. I’ve lost twenty-two pounds.” I was impressed, having weighed nearly two hundred myself at one point. Losing sixty of it was one of the biggest accomplishments of my life.
“Losing weight is so hard,” I commiserated with her. “How did you do it?”
“The boring way, eating right and exercising.” She laughed, and I laughed with her because I knew too well it was the only way that worked long-term.
She continued on. “My Peak Challenge is a training and nutrition program where we support and challenge each other, but it’s not just that because Sam has raised nearly two million dollars for charities all over the world. He’s just incredible.” She was practically swooning and literally fanning herself. I wasn’t sure if it was because he was hot, or because she was.
That nutrition program must include the Sam Heughan is a God Kool-aid.
“This conference includes a meet and greet and a gala and a special workout that Sam leads. He’s just an amazing human being,” she gushed. She clearly was in love with Sam Heughan.
“I have been chosen to introduce him,” the sweet older lady to my left said. “So, I’ve got the next eight hours to figure out the words to say to introduce the man who has completely changed my life.”
“Yes!” She went on. “It’s an incredible organization. He’s really affecting change on a global level.” (sic!)
Great. I am stuck between two evangelists at a Sam Heughan-is-the-greatest-human-in-the-world presentation.
“We have a Facebook group, and everyone is just so awesome and supportive. It really is a family.”
“And how much does it cost to be in this family?” I asked skeptically.
“It wasn’t much,” she defended, quickly changing the topic. “Nearly every penny is donated to charity. He is changing lives,” she stressed so incredibly seriously I had to cover my mouth to stifle a giggle.
Is this a cult? It sounds like a cult. I am trapped on an airplane for the next eight hours with the Sam Heughan cult.
Luckily for me, headphones exist. It was an overnight flight, which meant I could close my eyes and pretend to sleep, and there were movies to be seen.' (Ninya - Scotland with a Stranger: A Memoir, Chapter Thirteen).
For some reason, I doubt Ninya ever opened that OL first tome, on her IPad or elsewhere. But the point of my post is not to poke fun at SRH, MPC and all the gracious Peakers who read and often comment on this humble blog (@ladyjane-lj, @rosfrank immediately come to mind and I am sure they are not the only ones).
The reason I quoted this passage at almost full length, despite the paltry writing skills and abysmal grammar/spelling on display (Sweet Baby Jesus, please make people see the real difference between affect and effect, thank you and amen) is that we are dealing here with a unique perspective on a sizeable chunk of this fandom. You see, Ninya has no damn agenda to promote, in OL terms. She is not a shipper, but she is not an Anti, either. She couldn't care less if S+C=❤️, or if Tait rhymes with Fate (it rhymes with Bait, if you ask me). She doesn't know anything about OL, its cast, its Best Fans Ever, you and me and her.
And this is precisely why her perspective is so damn interesting. She is a mere passer-by, who failed to be grabbed in by the OTT Only Mommie gushing and who saw possessiveness and objectification disguised as love. She saw the most problematic, hypocrite and unimportant side of this whole experience and this whole fandom. And it's terrible and I am really sorry she did.
Maybe someone else than us reads this. For once, I wish they did, for it is an unadulterated, faraway echo of Real Life and the Real World. Selling that Toy Boi image is WRONG, *** and PR and TPTB. It's counterproductive and a total turnoff to real people who can't be arsed to even look for the Balmaclellan Adonis on Google, just because this fan substack is really, really embarrassing.
Of course, they blindly buy the booze, religiously sign in year after year to just about everything he sells around. Of course they show up every single time and pitch their tents on the rude city pavement in front of God Knows Which liquor store in Whoville, America. But they also show up with baked lasagna, pinch his ass (Madame Tussaud's, anyone?) and geriatrically swoon front row, cackling and giggling and catcalling like they were 12. It's also because of these women that OL lost its fabulous innocence and authenticity and it's because of these women we do have the Global Merry-Go-Round Seasonal Shitshow that keeps all of us (sickly, I am the first to admit it) engaged here.
Finally, this is also why I am closely following all the business side of this ahem, universe. It's the road less traveled by and of course, probably the most rewarding.
Shoot me, the very moment I turn into Neilie. Let it be clearly known beforehand. And no, please do not resuscitate. I'd be too ashamed.

Not my image!
pairing : thomas shelby x time traveled!reader
word count : 3,831 :P
summary : a trip to scotland for a belated birthday celebration turns into a blast from the past when you find yourself in 1919 with no chance of getting home, until you meet someone on a train to London that tells you he can help your situation and get you a visa....
warnings : angsty at times, near death experience (hypothermia), inspector campbell being creepy for the plot, bad writing, i have no concept of how much money a british pound is so ??, warnings will change with each chapter so please read them carefully!
notes : reader is 23-27 but no specified age, this is kind of an Outlander A.U. where the reader travels through a stone circle (or cairn for this one lolz) and goes back in time
a.n. : this chapter is technically an intro to the rest of the plot that ties in with the canon + vvv descriptive bc thats my writing style :P + also i suck at summaries + just recently got back into writing as a hobby, so this might be absolute trash but I'm very proud. if anyone has any issues with the content or what i write about because it goes against anything online please let me know so i can fix it!!

The black hoodie clings to your skin, sopping wet and forcing a chill through your skin. In the split second it took to regain consciousness, you realize your clothes are soaked, and judging at how badly you're shivering and that you're face-down in the grass, you've been asleep in the rain for god knows how long. Rolling over the damp grass to sit up, you catch a glimpse at the location you find yourself, the cairn outside the small town you had been staying at in Scotland on vacation.
The sky was dim, sunrise slowly encroaching over the heavy raindrops on the hills. Sitting against one of the boulders of the cairn, a shaky breath leaves your chest, fanning out in front of your face. Through the near hypothermia that's started to quickly make you sweat, a deep uneasiness started to take root, but you were far too panicked to acknowledge it in the moment.
You jumped to your feet, realizing how little time you have alive could be without action, rubbing your hands together for as much friction they could create, dancing your legs in place to wake your body back up. Attempting a warm breath into your hands barely helped your frigid and close-to-death state. The cold was numbing, the fog in your brain was all around you, mentally and physically, keeping the hilltop the cairn sat upon as an island amidst a sea of grey. And suddenly there was a faint light approaching.
The candlelight within the squeaking lamp softened the mist, making it far more inviting than the haze the man emerged from. Your shivers halted abruptly, the uneasiness bubbled up from your stomach to your throat, a foul taste in the back of your mouth spread over your tongue.
"'ello!! 'ello is anyone out 'ere?!" The man's shoulders shook with a powerful Scottish accent, and a strong sense of safety accompanied it. Alas, the shivers returned in full force.
"Here!" Your voice broke sharply. "I-I'm over here!" Attempting to speak up through the shakes and ambiance of early dawn proved difficult, your breathing overtaken by the cold and feverish urge to survive.
And luck was on your side today, for the first time.
"Hello?" The gentleman turned to the sound of your voice, not expecting to find you curled in a ball and soaked to the bone. And in strange clothes that were quite unseemly for a woman of your age. The outer layer that draped over you and the denim that clad your legs were downright outlandish to the man in front of you. 'Damn Americans and their strange styles of dress'  He thought to himself quickly, before stepping lightly over to you, helping you up, and taking his overcoat off to throw across your shoulders.
The warmth was welcomed greatly. You nearly stopped shivering for a moment as the smell of worn and slightly wet leather, cologne and fire overtook you. It was the most definitive thing you could grasp on to in the few minutes, or hours, you had been conscious of.
"Ma'am, what are you doing out here at the time of morn'? You'll catch yourself a death of a cold out in this weather for much longer." The older man took your hand and led you to his carriage and horse. What am I doing out here? The reasoning escaped you through the fog, but you caught a glimpse.
A stone in your hands, turning in your palm as you walk the grounds of a historic castle. Your phone died in your hands mid photo, with the cairn in the fading pixels.
Where are you?
Your slowly warming hand finds its way into the soaked pocket of your hoodie, and alas, no such stone was to be found. Your cell phone and wallet remained, but judging by the man assisting you, there didn't seem to be much hope in asking if he had a charger you could borrow.
He paused to let you lean against the large wooden wheel of his cart, waiting a moment before speaking. A gentler tone took his voice. "Ma'am, do you remember how you got out here?"
The fog had cleared, both in your mind, and as the first bits of sunlight rose from the eastern horizon. After a pregnant pause, you responded.
"I'm vacationing here, from America." That much was true, you were from America and you were here on vacation, the only question was when you were visiting. You had flown over in a modern plane, taken a modern train from London to Edinburgh, and then a taxi to Inverness. The man in front of you made a subtle face of surprise, as if the journey you have described could have taken over 6 months, when in it only took 2 days for you to be a quarter of the way around the globe.
"I'm sorry you've found yerself so far from home, Inverness 's not a place I would expect an American to want to travel." The man moved the lantern from his hand to a metal bar attached to the seat of the carriage. He busied himself with his gloves. "If I'm correct, you're shivering out of yer britches and startin' to sweat at the same time." You nodded quickly, sharp pins and needles erupting from the skin you moved. The man brushed his hand over his chin, considering his options.
"My daughter Isa will have coffee and a warm hearth awaitin'. Once you've warmed up we can 'elp you return to wherever ye came from." The man sounded less than enthusiastic to have an American in his home, but the desperate need of your medical situation demanded his unwilling help. No one wanted to have any connection to a dead foreigner found at a locally mysterious site known for having a frequency of people going missing when visiting.
He helped you up onto the bouncing wooden seat. The smell of horse and leather of the reigns was the second most tangible thing you could consider basing your reality off of. This was obviously not the 21st century. A young woman, possibly anywhere in the 1830's to the 1940's (judging the man's attire and horse) in a foreign country with no possible way of proving her existence via official documents. That was the reality of the matter. You had no idea when you were, and if there was a possibility of getting back to the modern day.
Focus, and compartmentalize. There will be time to deal with the larger issues later on. Don't freeze to death, and then figure out what time and day it is. Gently and slowly returning to work, your brain made its first decision of this strange crisis: Deal with it later. In the meantime, you were able to do a quick mental diagnostic ; Legs work, fingers bend and grab, your stomach growls and you understand that your guts and heart still work, you've spoken to the man, so obviously your mouth and voice still work just fine. The only outlier was what year you were inhabited by accident.
The gentleman took one last glance at the girl who had barely spoken, and urged his horse forward toward the gentle outline of a stone town a few miles away.
-
The fire overtook the crisp and clammy feeling that crawled over your body. Heat licked at your hair and half exposed arms. You had met the man's daughter, Isa, and she had practically thrown a warm cup of half brewed coffee out of half awake panic. Although your father walking into your kitchen with a strange young woman at barely 5 in the morning would alarm you as well.
Adding to the alarm, Isa was just as perplexed about your strange, "American" clothes. She was convinced no one was strange enough to wear those clothes willingly, and since you were of similar size with Isa, she gave you a few of her old clothes to wear as you warmed in front of the fire. A bulky, tan skirt slightly too tight at the waist and a thin, loose in the bosom white blouse. You sat at the hearth with a large blanket draped over your shoulders, reminiscent of the smell of the man's overcoat.
Your clothes draped near the fire, steam coming off of your printed socks with cats on them. Isa had commented about the craftsmanship and how expensive they must have been. You barely muttered a response that would have made sense. All that time spent taking notes in World History class, and you remember nothing about Britain and Scotland after the Revolutionary war or before WWII. The grip on your phone was tight and you quietly pondered as to how you were going to keep it hidden while you were here. There was hope to get home. At least for now.
"So you really can't remember anything?" Isa leaned over to place the back of her hand over your warm forehead.
"Nothing from before your father found me." You only partially lied, you can't directly remember how you ended up at the cairn.
"But you remember your name, right?" Isa sat back in her chair, reaching for a cup of coffee on the dining table.
"Oh, right, sorry. My name is (y/n)." Your answer was curt, unrevealing as possible.
The morning dragged on. The sun was up, the clock on the wall above the sink read 7:46. Time.
"What day is it?" You asked quietly into your coffee while attempting to cool it off.
"Wednesday." Isa had been buzzing around the kitchen, completing various tasks but while also keeping an eye on you. Her father had toddled off somewhere else in the house, his footsteps were heard, but not yet seen in daylight. "But if you would like the specifics, it's Wednesday, February 5th, in the year 1919."
"Thank you, Isa."
-
Hours later and lots of planning around the limited memory you spoke about having, it was decided that Isa's father would lend you a 20 pound note he had been saving (He was subtly adamant you got his address to mail money back to him) for the trains to London, and Isa gifted you a few of her mother's worn skirts and blouses.
The plan was for you to travel back to London and hopefully return to either your home country or your family, though you knew both of these things were problematic. Isa's father, Robert, had left around 8 to ask around the town about your family, or anyone who may have traveled with you. No one had a clue. You thanked both of them urgently, and with deep appreciation. A small mental note was categorized that you should repay more than just the 20 pounds, kindness as bountiful as had been shown to you was deserved of a larger reward.
A short walk with many stumbles to the train station back to Edinburgh. The heels of your company's shoes clicked against the raised wooden deck parallel to the stone station.
"Thank you both, for your generosity." You gripped at the skirt that fell to the tips of your toes barely covered your Chuck Taylor Converse. Isa smiled gently, holding a worn and broken leather carrying case out to you to take.
"I can't do enough to pay you all back." You made a note to include Isa's mother in the thanks, as she was also indirectly gifting you items.
"Goin' home safe," a large pause entered the conversation following Robert's comment. Isa had earlier explained that her father has a strange and unusual issue with Americans. Especially visiting somewhere like Inverness. "-Is all we can pray for." His voice was genuine, but with a hint of resentment. Not towards you, but aimed at something far larger than you. Robert was odd. Everything is odd. If you were only slightly more deranged, you would be acting just as cold and bitter as he was.
The train whistle was enough to make you jump out of your skin slightly, and the final call for boarding passengers was announced by the conductor.
"Again, thank you both. Your kindness is appreciated more than you can imagine." Taking the bag from Isa's hands, the heft slightly surprised you, but recovered as you walked up the steps to the train. Part of you wanted to stay, see what life you could carve here while trying to get home through the cairn. The other part of you understood that there isn't a choice in going home.
A large smile was across Isa's face when you found her among the scattered people on the raised deck, her father seemed to have already walked away and started on the walk home. A smile and wave and the train chugged into motion, steam flying behind the glass. You catch your reflection briefly. (y/e/c) eyes and an ill greenish grey colour clung to your skin, the grey skies unrelenting in their goal to forbid sunlight from reaching Scotland’s soil. It was pitiful to see yourself like this, a homesick and anxious ache bloomed in your gut. Settling into the steady chugging, the warmth of the shirt on your shoulders, and the steadiness of your seat beneath you was reality enough to coax you into a well deserved sleep.
-
A clamorous crash awoke you from the short nap your body allowed, the train had stopped, and with it came your carrying case from the weak storage compartment situated above your head. Calming your racing heart, you leaned over to stand and pick the dry leather handle from the floor and returned the hefty item to its previous place. A huff of breath while you fall into your seat, and your pulse finally calms down. You looked out the glass at the yellow train station sign reading the carefully painted words ‘Welcome to Manchester’ slowly.
People filed onto and off of the individual train cars, and soon enough your train car was mostly filled, all except the private aisle you suddenly shared with an older man in a bowler hat and bulky, black overcoat. Scanning him as he took the opposing corner seat in the small room.  Everything about this man was understated, his tie held no colour, nor did his vest or suitcoat. The only colour to bespeckle this man was the icy blue of his eyes, weathered by age, and his salt and pepper hair and mustache.
He carried and opened a file of paperwork close to his chest, but sitting across from him it was easy to see that he had no intention of keeping the title private; ‘TOP SECRET, SPECIAL BRANCH, BSA MUNITIONS ROBBERY : PRIME’- Suspects, finishing the sentence you couldn’t read fully. With the amount of heist movies you watched before you were thrown back in time gave you a good inference that this man was police, or whatever British version of the FBI that happened to exist in 1919.
You were shocked the man didn’t seem to acknowledge your existence in the train car, until he swiftly checked to see where your eyes had been trailing and caught you staring directly at the opened folder.
“Has your family yet taught you that staring is quite rude?” A gruff and grumbled voice projected from beneath his bushy mustache. You removed your eyes quickly from the grey-green envelope. He carried the corners back towards each other, closing the file to place it on his lap.
“They did, I apologize.” You moved to turn your body away from him, crossing your left leg over your right to lean against the window, eyes dragging sleepily over the quickly passing trees. You hadn’t even been aware the train had started moving again. Your accent seemed to surprise the man.
“American?” He queried. You nodded, turning your head back to look in his direction. “If I may be so bold and ask, are you traveling to London?”
“Yes, actually. I hope to travel home once I arrive there.” You pondered quickly over the depth of information you wanted to share with the man. “I lost my passport while visiting Inverness, I need to speak to the police in London to figure out how I can get home without it.”
The man’s mustache lifted gently with a slight smile. “Well, I suppose it’s a good thing we met today, my name is Chester Campbell, I’m an Inspector with the Scotland yard. I can get you a travel visa in Birmingham tomorrow, and then the day after you can be on a boat in London sailing back to the states.” He enthusiastically put his hand to his knee, outwardly excited for the upcoming few days. Your warning alarms were blaring in your head, but you doubted this man would let you stray away from the plan he just created.
“May I see your identification?” You hoped he would be too excited to hear in your voice how deeply you distrusted him. “It’s awfully dangerous for a young woman like myself to be traveling with a stranger who can’t prove his identity.” A shy smile lit your face gently, hoping to ease your own tension. He gave off waves of steeled and attuned senses to something. What it was you couldn’t pinpoint, but you could barely manage to stay in the same car with the way your skin suddenly crawled.
“Of course m’lady,” He handed you his badge after drawing it from within his breast pocket on his overcoat. All his information seemed appropriate for a man of his age and stature, and your hackles smoothed down with the small comfort that he was in fact a police officer. “Anything for the comfort of the fairer sex.”
Ew. Forget your skin crawling, you felt violently ill. But he could get you to America sooner. Although, what the hell would be good about being a woman traveling by herself to her nonexistent home in the states? Where would you even go once you got to New York? Dangers lurk around every turn, this Inspector Campbell was proof of this. I can’t give this opportunity away, as much as I dislike him. I might not get another chance to fall into my lap like this. “Thank you, Inspector.” A response finally fell through your teeth as you handed his badge back to him, and he tucked it back into its place within his coat. A tense conversation of small talk filled the remainder of the ride to Birmingham, your trust in him was nonexistent, and the hour and 30 minute ride didn’t improve it.
-
Stretching your legs from the excruciatingly long train ride was a welcomed feeling, stepping off the train and onto the Birmingham station platform. The sun was setting and you needed a drink. The trunk in your hand bumped your leg as you walked with it, eager to get away from that god forsaken room the Inspector filled with conversation through the entire ride. Swiftly asking those scattered around the buildings surrounding the station, The Garrison seemed to be the only pub within walking distance and price range, and so you started your venture to find food and drink. Your legs carried you away from the station as fast as possible before the Inspector had the chance to corner and engage you in yet another drawn-out commentary on the weather.
The Inspector had also offered to take you out for dinner, but you refused politely as you were collecting your things on the train to leave swiftly. If an hour of his time was grating years off of your life like it seemed to have done, you can’t imagine dinner with him. It might kill you on the spot.
The intricate details on the glass of the front façade gave The Garrison an odd aura that felt so very welcoming and warm, and yet the building itself had a feeling of owning wary and watchful eyes. Pushing through the doors, the rubber of your shoes squealed loudly against the marble flooring, catching the eyes of many of the other patrons through the frosted glass. You paused against the second set of doors to steady yourself and grip the handle of your carrying case before walking directly to the golden bar top and shimmying up onto a stool.
It wasn’t a great bar, in fact it was barely more than four walls, a few windows, and a mountain of liquor. The lighting was dim, keeping the more unseemly stains from the eyes of the customers. The woodworking of the booths behind you was gorgeous, beautiful craftsmanship that was beer spackled and possibly pissed on. The woodwork behind the bar seemed less abused, instead worn and well loved, and before you could admire it any further, the tall bartender asked you for your order.
“What food do you have here?” You asked swiftly, running on fumes and short tempered from the train ride. You, very less than subtly, reached down your shirt to where you had stashed the 20 pounds in your bra. Luckily The Garrison paid no attention, and you were able to order the largest meal the man in front of you could provide: a few slices of sourdough bread, cheese and a small chicken breast with potatoes. Pairing it with a large stein of beer, you were barely awake by last call, nearly asleep on the bar after everyone else had cleared out, except for the strange group of men that had been in and out of the corner room over the course of the night.
“Ma’am, I hate to do this to you, but you can’t sleep at the bar tonight.” The bartender leaned against the golden surface with a rag over his shoulder. God knows what time it was, and there was no possible way of getting you to care.
“Is there anywhere nearby for less than,” You did a quick tally in your mind to count the remaining coins in your pocket. “10 pounds a night?” Lifting your head from the counter to gaze up at the barman.
He sighed above you. “Look, don’t let anyone know about it, and I’ll let you sleep at one of the booths for tonight. You seem like a good enough woman, but tomorrow morning you are done loitering here and you’ll move along.” He bargained, and your heart leapt in your chest at the grace of the cards that have been falling into place around you.
“Thank you so much, sir. I’ll help you open tomorrow morning if that would help at all, I really do mean to earn my keep for tonight.” You suggested, overexcited at the fact you had a place to stay the night. He seemed to chew on the idea in his mind for a moment.
“I don’t see why that wouldn’t work.” He nodded. “The name’s Harry Fenton, I own the Garrison.”
“I’m (y/n),” You smiled slightly. “And I think I will be going to bed now.”

synopsis: kaeya is none the wiser to the people around him and what it is they think about him- he didn't get his title of 'top candidate for grandson in law' for nothing. however, he never thought he'd get so swept up in his own feelings that when he does, he decides he has to put a stop to them no matter the cost. but can he really follow through with that?

“A mosaic.”
That was your answer to a question Paimon and the Traveler asks while you were meandering around the Favonius Library looking for a book you needed for some personal research. They had run into you there and a conversation about what some citizens of the City of Freedom embody had sprung up somehow. For example, Paimon was very set on saying that Master Diluc was a rock- set in his ways and tough to budge- and so on from there.  The ideas and objects tossed around were anywhere between insightful and downright silly.
So, it was inevitable that eventually the trio would cycle around to the Knights. Jean was dubbed a Dandelion according to the Traveler and Lisa was crowned as an elegant bookmark that was so sharp it would cause terrible papercuts. Of course, Lisa’s object was picked ever so gracefully by Paimon even if it didn’t make much sense she was set on her answer, and nothing would change her mind. Then, when the personification of one Kaeya Alberich came around, admittingly the two Outlanders were stumped.
Kaeya would always peruse around with such an air of mystery. Keeping important aspects of himself tucked so far away that very few people knew of his secrets- and they were tight lipped for their own reasons.  His smooth tongue aided him greatly whenever someone would ask about himself personally- spinning tales and weaving verses that got him out of any sort of personal interrogation.
The trio knew if they asked Diluc, he’d give a short and possibly crude answer.  Jean would probably give him some illusion of not being sorted into such games and Lisa would just think you three were adorable and not give her two cents at all. You, however, thought on it for a bit longer and finally had an answer.
“A mosaic?” Paimon mimicked, making sure her voice was kept down in the sanctuary of books. “Like the artwork?”
“He is good looking,” Traveler pitched and it was true. Even people with aged or poor working eyes could see Kaeya was far from being an ugly man.
“I don't see how him being a little ‘good looking’ is deserving of the title of being a piece art!” You chuckle at Paimon’s small fit of confusion.
“Well, ignoring his looks, a mosaic is a piece of work that is made of small pieces right? It isn’t whole until it’s all put together. Just like a puzzle.”
“So, he’s a glorified puzzle?”
“That isn’t what I meant,” you shake your head in a small chuckle. You take a small trip to another corner of the library and run your fingers along the spines of different books before you grab one and easily slide it out of its spot on the shelf.
It’s a book on different types of art. Flipping the pages you find a page with a drawn on copy of a mosaic from another country. You lay it down on a nearby table and tap the drawing with your fingertip.
“What I meant was the process of becoming a mosaic- how it’s created.” you trace the empty spaces of white on the page where the piece of the drawn on piece were supposed to connect to create a bigger piece. “Various pieces of work all put together to make one big picture. A series of events leading to a grand conclusion of hardwork and patience. Maybe it took a lot of time and work. Sometimes creating such a piece was so frustrating at times you wanted to give up, or maybe sometimes nothing looked right. But, by the end of it all- it couldn’t be anything but a wonderful representation of all those struggles.”
Paimon floated in awe at your explanation and the Travelers playfully placed their hands on their hips as they looked at you.
“You sure think highly of Kaeya, don’t you?”
“It’s that noticeable, huh?” You chuckle a tad embarrassed. Your long-standing puppy-crush on Kaeya you’ve had since you met him wasn’t always the best hidden secret. In fact, you were almost positive that the Cavalry Captain himself knew you had a thing for him, but you were happy he never cornered you about it.
“You’re a love-struck citizen alright,” Paimon rushed to the Traveler’s side in making slight jests at you. You shut the book you had used to try and explain your choice of object and rubbed the back of your neck as you ignore the warmth in your face.
“Yeah, yeah, I get it.” You turn on your heel and walk back to the shelf to replace the book. Paimon had cupped a small hand around her chin before she was floating over to your side and asking you another question.
“So, if Kaeya is a mosaic, then who’s his artist?” You look at her and blink a few times, processing what she was asking. You didn’t expect a question like that.  You cup your own chin in thought and after a moment, you laugh at being caught off guard.
“I hadn’t thought of that.  I guess maybe Mondstadt itself? It is where all his friends and family are after all. Oh, and his job of course.”
“That makes sense,” Paimon muses, seemingly satisfied with your answer. The conversation had moved from the shelves to the open space of the library and soon out the doors. As the three of you left, the topic of objects to people shifted to one of getting some food into Paimon’s ever empty stomach.
The book you had previously replaced back on the shelf was easily slid back out by a hand adorning open finger gloves. Taking a relaxed seat at a nearby table, he flipped to the very page you had been on before and looked at the image himself with a small huff that twisted into a quirk of his lips.
“How interesting,” he muses before reading the whole installment about that specific piece of art. After all, how could he not?

The next morning was quick to roll around. After a hearty meal at the Good Hunter and pleasant good nights exchanged with the Traveler and Paimon, you were more than ready to head back home to rest. After a swift debrief on the commissions set aside for you today, you move out of the way and off to the side so you could flip through the four pages of individual commission information.
A typical site clearing of hilicurls, a balloon transport, and two other sites said to be infested with abyss mages and mitacurls. Taking a deep breath and letting it out in the form of a heavy sigh, you roll your neck and shoulders. It looked to be a very physical day, considering the commissions alone were already enough, they were hardly close in range to each other.
“My, what does this sunny morning lack that is making your shoulder’s slack so much,” the familiar voice of the ever lingering person on your mind spoke. Lowering your commissions and offering him a greeting smile, you watch as Kaeya marches his way down the stone steps of Mondstadt to you.
“The weather has nothing to do with it, I'll have you know.” When he finally gets to your sides, he silently offers his hand out for your daily commission sheets. You hand them over and resume your small effort of stretching. His eyes quickly scan sheet after sheet before he’s clicking his teeth and shaking his head.
“Having your run all the way to Stormbearer, to Windrise, down to Springvale and then back up to Wolvendom is just cruel.” The way his voice has that familiar lithe to it, you knew he only half meant what he said.
“Maybe I’ll get lucky and run into the Traveler who can do me a favor by hitching me a ride on a Waypoint.” You quickly take your commissions back and fold them down twice before storing them away in your pack. Watching the sun’s orange morning hue fade into its daylight yellow was tell enough that you had to get moving or else you’d be rushing to get your work done. Kaeya walked you to the city gate and even across the bridge before you were ready to set off.
This is practically routine. You weren’t sure when it started, but at some point, Kaeya had started meeting you at the Adventurer’s Guild after receiving your daily commissions and would insist on escorting you out of the city. He claimed it was on the way of his morning walk to stretch his legs, but you weren’t sure how much you believed him. You allowed him to do it anyway since it always set up a good start to your day.
Getting a small amount of Kaeya’s time was something you would relish since you never wanted to impede on his busy schedule with the Knights. It was the small selfish part of you that wanted to capitalize on this so-called ‘alone’ time that lasted only a small piece of the day.
“Be careful,” Kaeya always tell you and you always nod back to him a simple ‘I will’ before he would watch you disappear down the worn, dirt paths. Your first destination would be Stormbearer Mountain it appears.
Most of Kaeya’s morning consisted of going over documents shoved on him courtesy of his position as one of the ten Captains within the knight’s ranks.  With sighs echoing in his private workspace every few minutes and multiple tempting ideas of sneaking out without even processing the paperwork, he finally finished and approved the last document before placing it in a file on his desk that Jean would surely come and snag from him later.
Leaning back in his chair that would soon need the cushions replaced, he craned his neck to gaze out the tall window in his office.  The sun was much higher in the sky than it was when he had arrived earlier that morning.  His thoughts easily drifted to you and a frown found its way onto his lips.
“Are you doing alright?” Kaeya delicately asked to the air of solitude around him.  You were more than capable to handle yourself.  In truth, if you weren’t already associated with the Guild and kept so busy by them, Jean probably would’ve scouted you for the Knights instead.  ‘Your skills are impressive, and the others could learn a lot from you’, that’s probably what Jean’s pitch would be. All true of course, sometimes the job of trying to train the lower ranking knights was more of a chore than a duty, once Kaeya would often get stuck with.
He'd be more than happy to spar with you instead any day.
Steering his gaze away from the window and moving it towards the ceiling, he traced the wooden beams above him with his single visible eye. He sighed again- this time not because of his now finished paperwork.
“Surely, they’d be in Windrise by now… right?” His fingers drummed against the arm of his chair before he was bringing his chin back down to lock onto his office door.  His paperwork was done, so maybe…
Two knocks rapped against the thick door and Kaeya’s posture straightened out of habit. A muffled ‘Captain?’ heard behind it.  He let his head sink as a small, defeated breath left his open mouth before correcting himself again.
“You can come in,” he answered.  Guess his plans to sneak away were once again foiled.
By the time Kaeya made it out of HQ it was already late into the afternoon.  Stretching after stepping foot out of the large entrance, he stepped down the short set of stone steps before making his way towards the front of the city.  You must be back now, or close to the city at the very least.  It had been almost the whole day, if you weren’t back yet he’d simply go on an unprompted adventure to ‘bump into you’. Luckily, there you were; standing in front of the Guild and talking to Katheryne once again. Although, the look of you was less than encouraging.
While you yourself seemed more or less fine, just from the distance between the top set of steps by Good Hunter to you at the Adventurer's Guild Reception, he could tell your commissions had worn you out today. It was no wonder considering the distance between them. Your clothes had clearly been fixed prior to you reentering the city since the dirt and stains on them were a clear indicator that you had your fair share of roughing up.
Kaeya can, and did mostly, dismiss this all, however.  It was the serious look on Katheryne’s face and the way yours didn't show relief after a hard day's work like it normally would be. He started making his way towards you and started catching bits of the conversion you both were having.
“I deeply apologize, y/n, but it’s an Emergency Commission we just received.” The way Katheryne’s voice was coated in tension made Kaeya’s pace harden. When he had arrived at your side, his hand came up to rest on your back without his notice as he looked at the way you held your head in your hand like you were preventing an oncoming headache.
“What’s the problem?” Kaeya made it a point to look at you- directing the question at you and not Katheryne. Your hand dropped and you sighed with a shake of your head before looking at him.
“It’s nothing, just a last-minute Commission.”
“What? You just got back from your commissions, didn’t you?”
“It’s an Emergency. I can’t just brush it off.”
“Make someone else take it then.”
“No one else is available.”
“y/n.”
“Kaeya.”
The small verbal battle you both engaged in was empty and Kaeya knew he was playing a losing game. He let out a sigh before he finally turned to look at Katheryne who must have all the patience in the world for standing by and letting you both bicker until she was needed for something.
“What is the commission exactly?”
“Apparently, a Ruin Guard has been spotted near Springvale after a passing Adventurer accidentally triggered its detection sensors. The nearby residents are frightened it could march into someone’s territory and wreak havoc there.”
Kaeya pinched the bridge of his nose with his free hand- the other still mindlessly resting on your back- as he sighed.  This is indeed something that couldn’t be pushed off for someone else to take. When it comes to those old machines, who knows what could happen if they aren’t swiftly deactivated. The Captain was at an impasse; letting you go after already being exhausted from running around all day or tying you to one of the Guild’s posts and keeping you there until someone else passed by that Katheryne could snag instead.
“Fine,” Kaeya relented.  His hand finally dropped from your back and crossed with his other arm over his chest. “I shall accompany you then.” He saw you open your mouth- probably to protest- but he didn’t let you. “Ah-ah,” he tutted at you, “no arguments. Let’s get moving.” He uncrosses his arms to grab your shoulders, spin you around and lightly push you to get your legs moving.
Luckily, Kaeya’s vision was extra compatible with your own. While your fight styles were different, the fact you had a hydro vision was very much a blessing. It was quiet easy work taking down a Ruin Guard that had been drenched in water then subsequently frozen. After picking up a few dropped items from the timeless machine, Kaeya had stood up and placed his hands on his hips as if proud of himself.
“Aren’t you happy I decided to tag along now? We made quick work of that Ruin Guard.”
You can only roll your eyes at the smoothtalker.  Still, you quietly laugh at his antics all the same. Finally calling it a day in the middle of the field you had previously battled in with him, you lay down on the grass.  You were already covered in sweat, dirt and other stains from your earlier commissions, so getting a little more on your clothes wasn’t a concern. You shut your eyes and took in the breeze you silently thanked Lord Barbatos for as you took in a deep breath, letting yourself decompress.
Kaeya stood over you, moving so his boots were on either side of your head and he was looking down at your relaxing face.  With your eyes closed, you didn’t get to see the smile that was only ever present when you weren’t looking.  The moment your eyes would open, you would only see his normal everyday grin. And open your eye did and oh how lovely they were. The evening glow did wonders for their color.
Evening. Yes, it is getting rather late now.
“Are you ready to head back now?” He asked and you nod. Sitting up, Kaeya offers to carry you back to the city on his back- which you decline. That didn’t stop the fact that you reentered Mondstadt securely resting on Kaeya’s back as he held you up with a slight bend to his posture and firm grip on your legs.
Tumblr media
This routine would continue for as long as Kaeya’s luck would allow.  He’d be the first to see you in the mornings before being the one to walk you out of the city and if he was lucky, he’d be the first to greet you back (not including Katheryn).
If Kaeya was lucky he would greet you back into the city and spend more time at your side.  Reporting in with you to the Guild. Running a few errands like stopping by to purchase things from Blanche or getting your polearm enhanced or repaired at the smith.
If Kaeya was lucky, he would persuade you into getting dinner with him or dropping by the Cat’s Tail for some casual TCG matches when he was off duty.
If Kaeya was lucky, the conversation between you both would be flowing well enough that even if there was nothing left to do, he’d be privileged enough to walk you home or come inside to continue occupying your time until you fall asleep or push him out the door saying that he had to get up for work in the morning.
Today was not Kaeya’s lucky day.  When he got up this morning, his routine to finding you was practically ingrained in his muscles and when he didn’t see you at the stone steps, city gates or the Guild’s reception, confusion crossed his brows.  He casually took a seat on one of the nearby outside stools by the Cat’s Tail and waited until the time to clock in at HQ was growing closer.  With hesitation, he got up and looked around for you once more just to see if maybe he could at least catch a glimpse of you rushing around to get a (rather late) start to the day.
He was antsy all day and he was astonished to find out that throwing a wrench in his morning threw off his day so much. Kaeya knew that seeing you first thing in the morning was quite a lovely way to start his day, but he didn’t know the extent in which it could affect the rest of it.  Not exchanging a good morning with you or even saying his usual ‘be safe’ message at the edge of Mondstadt nagged at him.
Currently, he was sitting in a remote corner of the Favonious library, legs crossed as his rear was sat towards the front of the seat to make up for the fact his back was bent over the back of it.  He rests a flimsy, paperback book over his face, the pages scent of old paper and ink invaded his nose and the feeling of them rubbed against his cheeks. One of his hands held it open with his thumb and pinky and the other arm was hanging uselessly at his side, his wrist bouncing against his vision from time to time just for something to interact with.
Underneath the book, his eye was closed.  He had tried reading the passages in this particular book at least four times now, but the words just weren’t registering in his mind, so he had given up. He was left listless; certain he could easily fall asleep in this very position at any given time. Of course, it wasn’t often that Captain Kaeya would get much quiet time to himself anyways.
“Uh, what are you doing?” The voice of Paimon made Kaeya’s eye open under the book before he was pulling it down his face enough to only reveal that one eye.  Seeing Paimon floating at the Traveler’s side made him slip the book off his face completely and shut it before setting it on the table in front of him. His posture was corrected as he sat up straighter and rolled his neck.
“Couldn't you tell? I was reading.”
“Paimon think’s you were slacking off.”
“Is that what it looked like?” He jokes as he pushes his chair back and stands up properly before placing one of his hands on his hips. “I would never be caught slacking off, you wound me.”
“We’ve heard that before,” Paimon sighs with a shake of her head.  In the moment, Kaeya is reminded of the conversation he overheard before between you and the other two. The same time of day, the same location, the same two participants of that conversation.
“Say,” he says to gain both of their attention, “what do you think it is?” Kaeya’s exceptionally broad and unprecedented question left the two Outlanders confused. The way the Captain could almost see materialized question marks float around their heads was comical before he elaborated. “I’m asking about my artist, of course. Surely you must have your own idea, no?”
Both Traveler and Paimon’s mouth opened in shock.
“You were listening?!” Paimon shrieks before she is shushed by other people in the library for her volume.
“It’s rude to eavesdrop, Kaeya,” Traveler tells him as they cross their arms over their chest.  Kaeya fakes a gasp before shaking his head and shrugging with his arms up.
“Eavesdropping? Why, I’d never.” He dropped his arms back to his sides. “I was simply in the area and didn’t want to interrupt such a compelling conversation topic. That would’ve been quite rude of me, wouldn’t you agree?” The looks he received were easily brushed off. “Anyway, you didn’t answer my question.”
“Well,” Paimon started, “didn’t y/n say it would be Mondstadt?”
“And? Do you agree with them?”
“Paimon doesn’t see a reason why not,” she shrugs in the air.
“I see,” Kaeya’s arm crosses over his chest before he’s resting his opposite elbow on it to cup his chin. His gaze shifts downward before he's blinking slowly, meaningfully. “I suppose I could give you half marks.”
“Half marks?!” Paimon whispers.
“What about ‘the people of Mondstadt?’” The Traveler interjects.  Kaeya’s eye shoots back to them and his hand drops from his chin to resume a casual stance.
“That assumption is largely correct as well.” The smile he gives the two gives nothing away. It wasn’t clear if he was sincere about what he said or if he was just saying it to hear himself talk. “A mosaic is usually a large piece, yes? It would make sense for there to be multiple people taking part in such a project at some point I suppose.”
“You suppose? You’re just running us in circles here!”
“I don’t know what you mean,” Kaeya deflects with a lighthearted tone and short laugh.
“Fine! We get it!” Paimon huffs before the conversation devolves into little to nothing until he is parting ways with the two, leaving the library and ready to end the day that seemed to have lasted longer than usual. Despite having a rather lax day, he felt lethargic.
Yet, despite his lethargy, when he finally made it out of his day clothes and into his bed, all he could do was lay on top of his covers and stare at the ceiling. His eyepatch had been removed- just as always when he was in the confines of his home- and his long bangs covered the eye that was always so accustomed to the darkness.  One of his legs was propped up on the mattress with the other stretched out and his arms were folded behind his head.
His mind was curious about a number of things all the time- so his racing thoughts weren’t unknown to him. Still, the nagging feeling in the back of his mind didn’t let up. Was not seeing you at all really that much of a clog in his daily life? It made him feel so off-set and that alone was enough to plant a seed of anxiety in his chest.
Kaeya sighs to himself and his ceiling before rolling to his side and letting his bangs slip across his face and reveal his always concealed eye between the blue strands. He closes his eyes and wills his mind to stop dwelling on menial things.
Heart and mind are difficult things to cooperate with one another though.
Kaeya Alberich couldn’t risk getting mixed up in too many personal things- it made his future even more murky and daunting than it already was.
Tumblr media
After that one day of missing seeing you out before your commission, Kaeya tried to do it less on purpose. Maybe that was a message from the gods themselves that he needed to take a step back. If your very presence could affect his day to day life like it had, he needed to back off for his sake and yours. And while he didn’t see you off, he still would welcome you back any chance he saw you return to the city with a raised hand he would immediately tuck away again.
“I didn’t do anything to make you upset, did I?” Of course, you had noticed his sudden shift in nature.
“Of course not,” he tells you as sincerely as he could. His smile was strained on his lips and his nose felt like twitching from the sheer effort it took just to pull them up. From the unamused look you gave him at his answer, he knew you knew he wasn’t being completely truthful. Still, you just looked away from him and sighed. Kaeya was grateful you didn’t push the issue because a part of him was sure if you had, he would’ve spilled his guts about things he wasn’t sure of himself just yet.
The process of slowly taking steps away from you wasn’t pleasant for either party. Kaeya’s days had devolved into nothing but more boring paperwork and patrols he could do with his eye closed, and that would mean seeing nothing at all. The dull lag of the daytime was boring to him with nothing to do between his job and downtime he suddenly had. The Angels Share's atmosphere was a welcome comfort to his new, unpleasant routine- though, he could do without the looks from Diluc.
Meanwhile, you had felt the sting of dejection in your chest. You had come to the assumption that maybe Kaeya had finally taken action on your unspoken feelings for him and was politely telling you to take a hike. It was logical to you; a common everyday Adventurer probably couldn’t make it work out with one of the Knights’ Captains. His previous time spent with you was probably just a hindrance, a distraction from his real work, so this was good. He could focus on what was important, protecting Mondstadt.
Though, that mental pep talk didn’t make it hurt any less.
Just like Kaeya, you decided to bury yourself in your work. Taking commissions on top of any other field requests. Clearing hilicurl camps wasn’t something difficult and while the occasional Abyss Mage was a pain, it was all manageable. So, when your back to back jobs kept you out of the city for days at a time, that slowly became the norm for the citizens of Mondstadt.
It was only natural for no one to notice.
“Has it really been that long?!” Kaeya had been passing through the central square of Mondstadt when he heard the familiar shrill of Paimon. His interest took little to be piqued and he easily strut his way over. “And no one has tried looking for them yet?” Paimon and the Traveler were stuck in a conversation with Katheryne as is the norm for them nowadays when their travels bring them back to the City of Freedom. “Oohhh,” Paimon worries, “Paimon’s worried.”
“What’s the problem,” Kaeya interjects into the conversation. All eyes shift to him, his easy strides coming to a stop when he fully joins the group with his arms crossing over his chest. “My, what’s with all the long faces?”
“Kaeya!” Paimon screeches. “Oh, maybe you’ll know! Have you seen y/n around?” Kaeya’s chest tightens.
“Y/n? I’m afraid we’ve both been too wrapped up in our own duties recently. Sorry to disappoint.” The slight light of hope Paimon dawned dimmed and worry once again took over her features. The tension in his chest felt tighter, like a white-hot coil was entangling itself around his insides and replacing his ribcage. “Has something happened?” He asks slowly, making quite sure his voice doesn’t crack or waver. All his hard work to distance himself from you can’t unravel now; not when you aren’t even here.
“We aren’t sure,” Katheryne fills in.  All eyes look to her as she repeats what she had just told the duo before Kaeya arrived. “Y/n had taken a rather dangerous commission the other day. It was a job that required them to explore and investigate some ruins that had been discovered behind a wall of rocks on Stormbearer. The commission should’ve well run its course by now, but we haven’t heard back from either the client or y/n, so some of us are beginning to worry.”
Kaeya’s fists clenched, but no one took notice of them under his cross-armed stance. He made sure to keep his face from giving himself away.
“Have you made the issue known to the Acting Grand Master?” He questions. Katheryne shakes her head.
“No, we haven’t. We had had planned on bringing it to her attention if y/n still doesn’t get in touch with us by this evening.”
“We should let Jean know right now!” Paimon insists and the Traveler easily nods in agreement. “What if they’re stuck in the ruins. Or- or hurt or something!” Paimon’s worry bleeds easily into her words like a fresh wound into water.
“The last thing we should do is panic,” Kaeya said hypocritically. His gut felt like a boiling cauldron with panic as the main ingredient. Still, his many years of being persuasive and aloof didn’t let any of that show.
Though, the off hand look the Traveler shot him made him doubt himself; they’ve been awfully diligent when it comes to reading him ever since his wild goose chase he sent them on not long after they arrived in Mondstadt. Or maybe it was just because they had more experience than he initially thought. Still, it almost made him squirm.
“Well, we’re going to go tell Jean!” Paimon declared, her small hands on her hips as she bobbed up and down in the air. Kaeya just shrugs indifferently, surely not making any moves to oppose them. With a small huff, Paimon and the Traveler take off towards the Knights Headquarters. When they were well out of earshot and sight, Kaeya’s cross arms drop and his gaze moves to the ever-open gate that showed the wilds outside of Mondstadt.
“Katheryne,” he almost whispers. “You said Stormbearer?”
Tumblr media
Your vision was blurred when you opened your eyes from your, albeit useless, slumber. You had long since tucked yourself between a small alcove of debris and rock in the ruins you had agreed to investigate. Had you known the person who had commissioned this job was some ruin machine-obsessed loon, you wouldn’t had agreed so easily. A couple ruin guards aren’t a big deal, but adding their mechanical brethren- so to speak- on top of a nut job maintaining them the moment you have to step away to recoup, that's when things get tricky.
Your body had long since grown exhausted from using your Vision by excessively trying not to get killed. Luckily, the mad man only had his madness going for him, so hiding from his view was easy. Staying hidden from the machine’s censors was what worried you, but you had succeeded so far. Because of that very fact, however; you were reluctant to move. Beyond your weary body, hunger and thirst were starting to eat away at you too.
Having been in hiding with no ample moment to even try fleeing back to the city for additional aid, you had run through what little rations you had. Your gut ached with hunger pains and your throat had never felt dryer, still you weren’t backed up against the preverbal wall so much you threw all caution to the wind.
Your polearm had remained materialized as you kept it rested against your shoulder for ease of quick use should you require it.  Your vision had never felt heavier from its placement on your person and your hands cramped from how tightly you had gripped your weapon’s staff. You let your head fall back into the rock behind you and let out a silent sigh.
In truth, you felt more foolish than injured or exhausted. You knew this commission sounded… odd, but you took it anyway. Anything to help distract your mind from the ever cloudy presence of Kaeya- or lack thereof.
Your small sliver of respite you found in your cove of rock and debris was beginning to quake and crumble… literally. Your eyes you hadn’t realized had dropped back down shoot open and between the crumbling dust that threatened to get into them, you could hear the engines of machines whirring above you. You scramble to get out into the open before your previously, temporary safety could crush you. Though, coming out meant that you would be more vulnerable than you’d prefer.
The moment your gaze lands on that familiar warm glow of the back of a Ruin Guard, you throw your polearm into its core, coating the blade with water from your Vision without much thought. The guard crackled with electricity as it malfunctioned and was brought to its metallic knees. Sprinting to its back to quickly retrieve your polearm, you made sure to use your Vision to drench its legs and feet just in case it got back up again. Perhaps the moisture would cause it to comically slip and buy you just a bit more time and maybe a chuckle or two.
It was odd though, aside from the now jagged whirring of the jittering machine in front of you- there was nothing else. No crazed man trying to jump you or sick another random machine of his on you for whatever cause. It was in fact quiet, and that quiet put you on edge. Your brain knew you needed to stay on guard, but the silence was starting to lull your body into a false sense of security you couldn’t trust.
Still, your mind that had been in fight mode for what should have been days now, had no chance against your weary body. Your grip on your polearm slips and the weapon clatters to the ground just before your knees did and your body slumped rather pathetically afterwards.
‘If you fall unconscious, you’ll die’,  you mentally scold yourself. Trying to bully yourself into getting back up, keeping your eyes open, keeping your guard up. Still, your mind was beginning to feel as weak as your body. Thoughts swirled together into a mess of intangible words stuck in your mind and your sight was no better.  Perhaps it was your delirium and exhaustion, but your body suddenly grew cold and you vaguely felt goosebumps raise on your skin like winter itself had bloomed in these ruins with you. Among the changes you felt externally, you swore you heard a muffled voice too.
Perhaps it was the mad man, the one who got you suckered into this stupid job. If it was, he could make quick work of you now since the last of your fight had disappeared taking out that Ruin Ruard core. The warmth you felt on your neck and cheek was the final thing you could mentally register before your body succumbed to its burdens.
Tumblr media
‘Odd’, was the first thing that crossed your mind when you found yourself staring blankly up at a well maintained ceiling. You were sure that if you woke up again, and not gotten yourself killed or crushed, you’d be waking up to jagged rocks and mossy walls. So, the well furnished room you now occupied threw you for a loop- which your pounding head didn’t exactly take well.
The room you were in was familiar, and you were sure you’ve been here before, but your foggy mind couldn’t process where you were.  The bed you were tucked into was soft and comforting, and with a wince the mattress gave when you push yourself to sit up. You were alone in the room and without much thought, you shuffle your legs out from under the blankets thrown over you to place your feet onto the floor and wobble up to your legs with the help of the bedside table acting as a- albeit less than desirable- crutch.
The door creaking open was almost mistaken by you for the sound of your sore joints straightening out, as humorous as that was to you since you let a brief, lighthearted laugh escape you in a huff. Then, with your sights on the ground, you noticed a shadow casted by light you don't remember being in the room with you before.
You follow the shadow along the hard floor covered with a single, purple rug until your eyes found a pair of all too familiar boots.  Your aching body starts to feel anxious- a small wave of gooseflesh running across your exposed skin at the idea of Kaeya being in your proximity for the first time in a while. Still, regardless of how you hadn’t been able to squash your silly crush on him or properly prepare yourself for a possible rejection without even confessing- you were no coward.
With both hands tense on the bedside table, you raise your head to look at the blue haired man who had removed the fur, half-cape from his shoulder.  It was strange seeing how empty his shoulder was without the extra fluff the fur provided. Still, it was nice to see him in his entirety again since it had been a while. The blacklight of the space behind him made it difficult to see his expression since the lights in the room you had woken up in had been turned off presumably for your ease of comfort.
“It’s been a while,” was the lamest thing that’s come out of your mouth in a while.
Of course it had been, you were both actively avoiding each other and practically the whole of Mondstadt picked up on it. Looking behind his shoulder you could only barely see corners of art pieces on the walls behind him and another rug that ran down the hall behind his heels.  “Kaeya, am I at your house?” You ask, finally realizing where you recognized your surroundings from.
You’d been in his living room plenty of times visiting, but you had hardly been back in his room unless you were the one tasked with dragging him home from Angels Share and were generous enough to lug his body weight back to his bed. It was a rare occurrence since you were normally one to just dump him on the couch with a blanket and glass of water for his possible next morning hangover.
Kaeya never graced you with an answer before he was marching into the room. His bootsteps seem louder than usual on his hardwood floors of his enclosed room, but maybe that was just the headache. His hands shoot out to grab your shoulders and turn you towards him, your hands that had been on the wooden night table were effectively removed from its surface and now Kaeya’s grip was the only crutch you had for balance before your brain could full calibrate standing without swaying again.
“What on Teyvat were you thinking?!” He raised his voice and even in the dimly lit room with only light from the hall flooding in, you could easily see his expressions now. His brow was turned in a frown and his eye clouded with something you couldn’t pinpoint. It was a far cry from his normally suave and dismissive behavior. “Taking an obviously suspicious commission in ruins that hadn’t been officially investigated by the Knights? Seriously, you thought that was smart?!”
His temper only made your headache worse and in turn soured your already not-so-great mood.  Reaching up to grab his arms like a hook for support, you verbally push back.
“I think I'm capable of handling things myself, you know? The Guild doesn’t need the Knights’ to babysit them for every little thing, and as a member of the Guild that applies to me too!”
“Oh yes, so capable you spontaneously disappear for days? Does that sound capable to you?”
“It does actually because I was handling things just fine by myself, not that it makes a difference to you.”
“You collapsed next to a Ruin Guard, y/n! What would you have done if it had restarted or if something else would have happened? Magically wake up and jump into battle again, because I have my doubts about that!”
“What is your problem, Kayea?!”
“You! You are my problem!”
Astonished, you scoff before rolling your eyes.  It had been so long since you hashed it out like this with anyone, let alone Kaeya. It didn’t feel good, it made you feel sick to your stomach. Not hearing any retaliations from you, Kaeya guides you by the shoulders back against the edge of the mattress and pushes you to sit down again. You didn’t let yourself release the sigh of relief that you felt now that the weight of your own limbs was lifted- you wouldn’t give the Captain that satisfaction.
You expected him to let go of you, release your shoulders and march out of the room and maybe slam the door for good measure. Or maybe pace around the room before ordering you good enough to argue, so you would be good enough to get out of his hair. Out of the possibilities, the only thing that you predicted right was him releasing your shoulders.
Kaeya's hands left your shoulders before sliding down your arms and dropping to the mattress edge on either side of you. You were stunned when he dropped to his knees in front of you and the pressure of his forehead resting on your knee felt heavier than anything. Caging you with his arms and using his head as an anchor on your legs he had effectively trapped you. You kept your hands tucked into each other by your stomach, making sure your knuckles wouldn’t brush even a strand of his hair and you could feel the thin strap of his eyepatch leaving an intent on your skin.
“Kaeya,” you sighed heavily, his name leaving your lips like a weight.
“I tried,” his muffled voice sounds weak that your gaze softens at the abrupt tone change. “I did. I tried to fix it, but my problem is still you and I can’t do anything about it.”
“I have no idea what you’re-”
“Tell me what to do.” His words that interrupt yours cause you to furrow in confusion.
“What?”
“Tell me what to do,” he repeats with a strained voice. “I have so many things I need to do, choices but I- I don't want to. So, do it for me.”
“I still don’t know what you’re talking about. What does all that even mean?”
“Make me choose you,” he sighs heavily before the hands of his that were placed on the mattress beside you move to lightly grab at your shirt like he was scared to touch you further. As if you’d push him away, scorn him for his actions and inactions alike. “Because I will. I just- I need someone- you, you need to-” His sentences never finish as his breaths become uneven. The hands that grip your shirt tighten to ball the fabric in his fists now. “I’m sorry.”
Never had you seen Kaeya, the ever debonair Calvary Captain who kept all his secrets stored into his chest, kneel and subsequently crumble like this to anyone- much less to you. Perhaps in the past he never talks about, Diluc had seen him so weak, but that would be where the witness list ends. You lift your hands from your lap and hover them over his hunched body that clung to you like a child; you were unsure if touching him would set him off or if he would recoil from you. Your silence only made his hands that ensnared your shirt tug on the fabric like an anchor keeping a ship from sailing away.
One of your hands reach to his head and your fingertips breach the blue tresses of his hair. His shoulders tensed and you almost snatched your hand away.
“Don’t,” he mumbled into your leg. You weren’t sure if he was saying not to touch him or not to pull away. So, you kept your hand half in his hair and unmoving.
You yelp when the tugging on your shirt flew into a harsh yank. The back of your knees that had previously been resting snug against the edge of the mattress were now well away with the back of your thighs replacing their spot. Closer to sliding right off the bed than comfortably sitting on it, Kaeya’s arms moved to wind around your waist and his face found a new home in your stomach as your arms hovered in the arm like a puppet's dangling from unused strings.
You could feel the weight of his words fall onto your legs by way of the tears leaving his eyes. You could feel it in the way his shoulders shake and the uneven breaths that warms your lap through his mouth.
“Kaeya,” you softly start, “what has gotten into you? I've never seen you act like this before.” You slowly lower your arms and place your palms on his shoulders gently so as to not startle him; you weren’t going to keep them in the air forever, they’re sore.
“I’m from Khaenri’ah, you know?” His voice strains as he lets out a pathetic laugh that’s damp with a web forming in his throat. He feels your hands on his shoulders twitch and his grip around you tightens so you have no chance of running from him.
“Kaeya, what-”
“My father abandoned me here with the intention of using me as a spy. I’ve only ever told Diluc, but when I did a lot happened and he left, abandoning me too. I don’t care about Khaenri’ah- not anymore- Mondstadt is my home. It’s where my friends are, my brother- even if he will never accept that role again. I can’t leave Mondstadt behind.”
“I’m sure Diluc doesn’t hate you, not like you think. He just- he’s set in his stubborn ways and isn’t good at communicating.” You decide to speak only on his mention of Diluc, since the new information of the land in which he supposedly hails was still processing in your mind.
Your previous comparison of Diluc to a rock briefly comes to mind at the mention of his stubbornnes. You nearly laugh at the thought, but now is definitely not the time.
“Please, please, make me choose you. Tell me to, order it of me, I don’t care. Just- don’t make me live without my artist. I can’t risk that again; I can’t take being abandoned again.”
“Artist? Kaeya, what are you talking about?” You felt like you didn’t understand the words coming out of his mouth.
There was a bout of silence after your question and the air felt heavy. You know Kaeya heard you, but he was reluctant to answer. Odd, considering the word vomit he had already coughed up in the last several minutes since he came into the room. Your hands start to move and lightly rub his shoulders over onto his neck, silently trying to coax him into talking more.
“I heard what you said to the Traveler.” You almost roll your eyes because that could be literally anything. Does he know how often you get the chance to actually run into them and Paimon? He is just trying to dodge the question and by habit you lightly swat at his head. A silent, ‘okay smartass’ to keep him going in the right direction. He almost scoffs into your lap for that one. “You called me a mosaic.” Oh. “You told the Traveler that ‘Mondstadt’ is my artist; they said the ‘People of Mondstadt’, but only I know who my artist truly is.” His arms around you twitch and you could almost feel a stitch of pain in your side from how long he's been effectively squeezing you. “My artist is you. It’s just you.”
The room is engulfed in a silence that feels heavy, yet... somehow also relieving. So much time recently had been the both of you dancing around the issues neither of you wanted to confront and all it took was you getting yourself into potentially mortal danger for days on end for the truth to come out. Kaeya knew you were someone important, but he didn’t realize just how heavy your permanent absence would be to him. Just the thought of possibly finding you in those ruins dead made his throat burn and ache like swallowing a ball of thorns.
“Kaeya.”
“I’m not lying,” his voice was strained, filled with fear of being labeled someone worthy of nothing.
“I wasn’t going to say you are,” the hand that had previously tapped his head now rested on his nest of blue hair. The gentle strokes of your palm against his scalp were soothing as he felt your breath move your stomach against his head. “I don't see why you would lie to me right now.”  There was no doubt in your mind that everything that came out of his mouth was the unadulterated truth. You’ve never seen the suave captain bleed such vulnerability before.
You didn’t say anything else to him after that. You move your hands to his arms, unwinding yourself from them before pulling him pathetically up onto his own bed. Not even bothering to fix your position, you fall back onto the mattress with your feet hanging off the edge and he easily follows you. From the lighting provided from the hall, you notice his eyepatch string had loosened from all his face hiding and you take it upon yourself to tighten it- securing it back where it belongs. Your fingertips linger around its material for but a moment before sliding down to his cheek.
His eye is brimmed with tears that had stained his skin with tracks and swelling. He also wouldn’t make eye contact with you, and you roll your eyes endearingly at his childish whims. With you both laying sideways on the bed, feet and legs hanging and not even a blanket to cover up with, your thumb run over his skin. Kaeya is quick to reach for and latch his grip delicately onto your wrist to keep it there.
“‘M sorry,” he mutters again, sounding much more shy than he did before now that his face was in view of your gaze. You smile at him, knowing there was a long and meaningful talk in the near future.
“I know. Go to sleep.”
“But I-”
“Artists' orders,'' you chortle. He just scoffs and offers his own eye roll, but his cheek warms under your palm. His eye closes and he let out a deep breath before taking one back in and repeating.
“Stay until I open my eyes again.”
“I will.”
And you did.

Timaeus Isn’t the Only One
Windbloom with Genshin men ft. Cyno, Albedo
Drabbles - GN Reader (No Pronouns) - Fluff (slightest angst in Albedo’s but ends with fluff) - Romantic - SFW
Part 2 for Cyno
It seems that Timaeus isn’t the only one who's gained a love interest this Windbloom festival…
Tumblr media
Cyno
Cyno had several agendas for his trip to Mondstadt. Of course his principal reason was Collei’s protection and accompaniment, though another not so secret motivation added to his decision. How could this reason be anything other than Genius Invokation TCG?
Not only did he have the opportunity to commission a custom card back from the famous Calx, but Cyno would also be able to spend his precious vacation hours playing against folks in Mondstadt’s heart of TCG; the Cat’s Tail.
As soon as Collei had gone off with her local friends to catch up and see the sights, Cyno set off to the Cat’s Tail, his deck in hand, hoping to find some worthy challengers in the renowned tavern. Upon entering, Cyno took no time to tarry, immediately challenging the first person he saw with a deck to a duel. The Mondstadtian man in question was naturally a little shocked to be issued such a sudden challenge, but accepted none the less.
It took all of three minutes for Cyno to beat him. After accumulating three more consecutive wins in the next ten minutes or so, Cyno’s table had gathered quite the crowd. The tavern was ablaze with excitement, many players afraid and in awe of the evident master before them.
It was around this time that you entered the Cat’s Tail, planning to catch up with Margret and maybe stretch your card game muscles with a few rounds of Genius Invokation. What you didn’t expect was a crowd of people surrounding one table, holding their breaths and intently watching a game as if it was a chess tournament.
“Hey Prince, Shuyun, what’s going on? Was there a special event today that I wasn’t aware of?”
Prince meowed in response, Shuyun translating,
“Not exactly, but it seems we have a new house champion. And an outlander, at that.”
“A house champion? Is he really that good?”
“He’s beaten some of our best players in mere minutes. I’d say he has earned such a title.”
You’re gaze swept over the crowd again, hoping to see the illustrious card player between the audience members. The crowd cheered, jumping around and indicating that another game had been won by the champion. As the audience parted slightly for the small celebration, you caught a glimpse of the winner, a man dressed in Sumerian clothing, with a stern face that presently held a small prideful smile.
You turned back to Prince when he nudged your arm with his soft head, watching as he pointed his paw and nudged his head toward the man.
“You know what? Maybe I will Prince,” you took a moment to pat his head, being mindful not to topple his tiny hat, before making your way to the crowded table.
“Would anyone else like a game?” The champion asked the crowd, face still flat, though his eyes shone with a subtle sense of fun.
“I’d love to,” you said, sitting down opposite.
“Excellent, let’s begin.”
The game was long and gruelling, with both sides losing two characters and using almost all their cards before the final round. The audience was impatiently watching, eyeing off each player's determined expression and holding their breaths as you played a final card, allowing you to destroy your opponent's last character with your own on only two health points.
The crowd cheered loudly surprised and excited to see someone beat the incredible stranger.
"You play with great precision and thought in your actions, I willingly accept my defeat."
"Thank you, but it was super close, I would believe that if I my deck had been shuffled a little differently I wouldn't have won,"
"Do not underestimate your own skill. But we can test your theory in another game. I am Cyno, the adventurer."
You introduce yourself accordingly and shake hands to initiate another game. The two of you go back and forth in several more rounds of TCG, each losing and winning in equal ratios. You continue on for so long that the crowd eventually dissipates, you and Cyno the only ones left in the tavern.
Cyno used a final elemental skill, destroying your last character card and ending what was likely the hundredth round. You sighed in satisfaction, it had been a long time since you'd had this much fun playing cards with anyone before. Cyno seemed to share your sentiment, sitting still at the table and not bothering to pack away his deck.
"I would suggest playing another game, but I think the staff want us to leave so they can close," You laugh, slowly packing your dice into a little bag.
"Yes, it seems we are inconveniencing the staff. Although I will be back tomorrow. I hope you will come as well,"
"For sure, I've had so much fun playing against you Cyno. You're really amazing at this game, although I think I might be able to one-up you next time," You tease.
"Well, we will T-see-G." Cyno's usual stoicism did not shift with the uttering of the pun, though it did cause your own head to jerk in a chuckle.
"Pfft. I didn't take you as the kind to make jokes Cyno, but it seems to be a CARDinal part of your personality." You laugh, holding up a random card from your deck.
Cyno felt his subtle smile widen and his heart grow in kind. You laughed at his joke. You even returned it.
"Come have dinner with me."
Your head shot up at the sudden request, mind racing and mouth agape. Did... did this guy just ask you out?! Surely he was just making a request to spend time together platonically, right? You hardly knew each other after all, even though you had great chemistry and shared a lot of interests. Not to mention he was attractive, and his hair looked so silky. Okay now you were just complimenting him.
You know what? Whether Cyno was asking you on a date or just as a friend, you wouldn't mind.
"Sure, that sounds great," You smile.
Tighnari and Collei were beyond surprised when Cyno told them he went on a date the next day.
Albedo
You walked through the main square of Mondstadt, admiring the festive decor and lively atmosphere of the Windbloom season. Strolling past the fountain, you spotted Sucrose and Albedo conversing at the alchemy station. A smile lit up across your features, it has been a while since you’d spoken to the alchemists, especially with how busy the seemed to be recently. Your hopefully secret crush on Albedo also meant that you were always looking for a chance to talk, especially during the festival of love. Deciding to take the opportunity, you walked over to say hello.
“Sucrose, Albedo!” You called, turning the two toward you. “How are you?”
“Y/n, we’ve been well. I hope you can say the same?” Albedo smiled politely.
“Yes, I’ve been well enough. I feel like I’ve barely seen you guys though, have you been busy?”
“Yes, my position as Windbloom ambassador this year has certainly kept me very busy, not to mention this strange prophecy we’ve come across.” Sucrose explained, sounding a little out of breath, but satisfied with her work. “How has your Windbloom been? Is there anything I can do to help make it better?”
“My Windbloom has been just fine, thank you Sucrose. A little too regular, if anything. I hope that with all your work you’re still finding time to enjoy yourself. I would believe that as Windbloom ambassador, it’s most important that you are enjoying yourself. Otherwise, how can you bring joy to others?”
“An excellent postulate, I too believe that Sucrose’s own happiness will affect her ability to help others with theirs. After all, a gloomy person would not do much to sooth your own worries.” Albedo reasons.
“Th-thank you, both of you,” Blushing at both of your concern, Sucrose adjusts her glasses bashfully. “When you said your Windbloom has been ‘regular’, what do you think would make it more impactful? Perhaps there is something I can help you with after all?”
“It’s nothing you’d be able to change Sucrose, but thank you,” you sigh, glancing wistfully across the square at the smiling, bustling citizens. “I suppose a festival of love and friendship just makes the lonely feel a little more alone. But it’s nothing big. I’ve got my own work and things I need to do, as I know you both have, so I’ll leave you to it. It was nice to see you both!”
“Yes, and you as well,” Albedo responded, although both he and Sucrose had a crinkle of worry in their brow.
“Um, we’ll see you later Y/n, I promise!”
You bid the duo goodbye, smiling and slightly regretting saying anything about yourself. You didn’t mean to turn the conversation so somber, hopefully Sucrose and Albedo still kept their lively attitudes despite your sudden sob story.
Although you did truely feel the effect of the events surrounding you everywhere you went. Although the festive air was fun, the novelty ran out quickly for you when you didn’t have anyone to celebrate with. Your friends were busy with their romantic pursuits, and only chatted with you shortly to update you on their success. Of course you were happy for them, but it stung a little to know you didn’t have the same.
Seeing Albedo today hadn’t helped your hurt. Despite the friendly conversation, speaking to him so casually only served as a reminder of what you knew deep down would never be. Albedo was a serious and studious, he would never have time for something so trivial as romance.
You sighed as you entered your home, deciding not to keep throwing the hapless pity party and get some work done instead. You would just have to get over it, you huffed. It’s not like anything was changing anytime soon.
You sat down across the couch, slouching after completing your work, staring into space and trying not to let the sensation of loneliness creep back now that you weren’t up and about. A knock at the door brought you from your stupor, pushing the doubting thoughts back for a moment as you curiously approached the door. You certainly weren’t expecting any guests, but what you saw when you opened to door couldn’t have been expected.
Albedo stood outside your home with a gentle smile and a full bouquet of winding, snow-white flowers the likes of which you had never seen. Your mouth gaped open as you blinked, your chest light as you tried to hold back your imagination. Surely this couldn’t be what your heart desperately hoped it would be?
“Albedo, what are you doing here?”
“Why, I simply wanted to visit you. As well as take the opportunity to present you with my Windbloom. I hope you will accept it,”
Albedo carefully handed the vine-like flowers over to you, your arms cradling them as you admired the otherworldly blooms.
“Did- did you create these?” You asked, wonderment filling your voice and reflecting in your eyes.
“Yes, I believed it was only reasonable to present you with something unique. Something to reflect how I feel... for you.” Albedo's calm features never faltered, his eyes only dropping for a second in what you could only guess was a rare shyness.
“What- I mean why-,” you tried to breathe, not quite sure how to ask the question burning in your mind. You settled with a whisper, “Why are you giving these to me?”
“Is that not obvious? I apologise if I have not been as upfront as I would have preferred, but I did not want to cause you any grief in the case you didn’t reciprocate my feelings.” Albedo explained, voice softer than ever. “I find myself infatuated with you, Y/n. You occupy more of my thoughts than any other, and I feel myself drawn to you at all times. It was only earlier today when you commented on your lonesomeness that I realised it was worth my taking a chance to make both of us happier for it. So if you’ll allow me, would you accompany me to dinner tonight?”
You smiled wide, bashfully taking Albedo’s hand in your own as you stepped closer to him.
“I would love nothing more. Thank you, Albedo. You’ve no idea how much this means, how much I like you,”
“If it is anything like how I feel for you, I’d imagine you are quite spellbound at the moment,” the alchemist chuckled, taking your cheek in his palm and caressing the skin.
It was only that morning that you found yourself tired of the Windbloom festival. Yet now, you wished it would never end.

I knew I was going to be in the mouth of everyone. Dating him, a well known driver in Europe that drives for the second most famous team of the world, would mean that my social media would be full of notifications, of people sending requests of following, of attempts of messages. I knew that once we landed back in London, people would recognize us and follow us.
But I have to love the present. I have to keep being who I am, I can't show a weakness because they would be attacking it immediately. If I want to be with Lando, I have to fight against the odds to make them see that I don't care what people say about me.
“I don't want to leave tomorrow…” I sighed, laying on the bed and looking through the window, observing the pyramids.
“Me neither” I heard him sigh, laying on his side and kissing my arm. “Maybe we can stay some more days…”
“You know we can't” I sighed looking at him, smiling weakly. “My worry is growing and I need to see Eloise. I'm really worried, she's not answering my texts or calls…”
“Did you call her parents too?” he smiled weakly, rubbing my back softly.
“They decline my calls…” I whisper, sadly. “I just… What if she's really mad at me because I chose to stay with you instead of talking with her? I mean, I did explain to her why I did that, what happened… But she didn't answer, just left me on read”
“It will be okay, love” Lando sighed, kissing my shoulder. “You want me to go with you? So we can talk with her and explain to her…”
“I don't know, I think I want to do it alone” I smiled weakly. “We have to talk, many things have happened since last time I saw her and I just want to have some time alone with her”
“I understand” he nodded, wrapping his arms around me and pulling me to his chest.
“You are the best” I smiled, kissing his lips softly, cupping his jaw with my hand. “You know, I think we broke the internet some days ago”
“Oh, yeah. I know” he laughed, making me smile when I felt his chest move with his laugh. “My manager texted me saying that people just went crazy, kinda”
“I just… I don't want to be like those girlfriends that are models and influencers” I said. “I mean, they are perfect. Every time I talked with some of them I felt like an outlander, kinda. They just dressed with important brands like Gucci, Dior, Tommy Hilfiger… and the most expensive clothing I have is a dress I bought for a gala in the museum, and it's nothing compared to what they wore”
“I know you are not like them, Violet” he said, kissing my head. “And that's what I love about you. You are natural, careless. You are like a breath of fresh air for me, really. You keep my feet in the ground”
“That's cute” I smile looking up at him. “I just… I guess I want to be worth it? Yesterday I read some of the comments of the posts and they kept repeating that finally there's a girlfriend that is not famous. Like, I'm normal, I guess. Not an influencer, not an athlete, not a model”
“And that's perfect, really” he smiled.
“But that made them think that I want you for your money” I smiled weakly. “I mean, if they say that, I can just take a screenshot of my bank account and show the money I have. But that's not what I was saying…”
“I just imagined you posting on Instagram that screenshot with a caption like… I'm not poor, I have a job. Go mind your own business” he interrupted me laughing, making me laugh too.
“You and I both know that I'm capable of doing that” I laugh. “But what I was saying! Why are they so determined to say that every girlfriend is with their partner just because of money and fame? Why can't they think that it is because of something else, like love?”
“Because… I don't know” he sighed, brushing my hair with his fingers. “I guess they want drama, gossip. They think that a love story is not dramatic or important for a driver. They just want to make and believe their own narrative and take things out of context”
“That kinda sucks” I whisper.
“It does, yeah…” he sighed. “But I don't care about what they think. I only care that after every race I'll have someone waiting for me. I made many mistakes before, like letting them get in my mind and make me push away people that cared for me. I won't make the same mistake again, I will fight for us”
“I love you, Lando” I smiled, hugging him tight.
“Tomorrow I will take you to a place before we leave” he said. “So I want you to take that white dress you bought the other day at the market”
“Are you going to propose?” I laughed. “Isn't that a little soon? I don't know, wait for next year maybe. We have been dating for a week!”
“No, silly!” he laughed. “But I'll keep that in mind”
“Idiot” I laughed softly.
He just held me, both of us watching the pyramids before falling asleep in each other's arms.
The next morning, after I woke up I grabbed my phone, checking if I had any answer from Eloise. But like the last few days, I didn't have messages from her.
“I'm sure she's fine, Violet” I heard Landon whisper, kissing my shoulder.
“It's just… I feel something is wrong. We never have been this long without talking. I just want her to send me whatever…” I whispered.
I heard Lando sigh and wrapping his arms around me tightly, making me take a deep breath and close my eyes, getting comfortable in his arms.
The next morning he woke me up, peppering soft kisses all over my shoulders and neck, rubbing his hand over my back in soft circles. His smile was the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes, making me answer him the same way.
“Good morning, beautiful” he whispered, making me chuckle softly and hide my face on his bare chest, pressing a soft kiss on his skin. “Ready to do one last visit?”
“Mhm” I nodded, wrapping my arm around him.
We just got up and while the room service came with our breakfast, we put out clothes back in the suitcases, making sure they were ready and sent to the reception so we don't have to come back before leaving.
I looked at the white dress, smiling. I have no idea what he wants to do, where are we going now. But somehow I was excited about it, I was excited because I saw him excited about being in this place. I'm excited because he was so interested in things I like. He looked at me with a smile while he nodded, paying attention to everything I explained to him. And it made me fall even more for him, if that was possible.
“You ready?” he smiled, watching how I tied my hair on a braid after hanging my bag on my shoulder. “Let's go”
I laugh softly, walking out with him and going to the main door of the hotel. A van was waiting for us, ready to take us to the place he planned to go. He held my hand all the time, rubbing soft circles on my knuckles.
“Where are we going?” I asked him, resting my head on his shoulder.
“You'll see” he whispered. “Just be patient, we are close”
I laugh softly and nod, looking out of the window and enjoying the land that surrounded us. After a few minutes, the car stopped.
“Let's go” he smiled, opening the door and getting out of the car before me.
I smiled at him, holding his hand as he helped me get out of the van. I looked around surprised, recognizing this place.
“No you didn't” I laughed softly.
“Oh yeah” he smirked, hiding my hand tightly and walking with me. “You know what this temple means?”
“It's Hathor’s temple” I nodded, looking around and smiling. “Egyptian goddess of the sky, music, joy, dance and love”
“And you told me that she was associated with Isis, right?” he said, wrapping his arm around me. “The goddess of the loyalty and the maternal love”
“Mhm” I nodded.
“Well, I want to make a promise, in front of her” he said, holding my hand and stopping right in front of one of the many statues of the goddess.
“Lando” I laughed softly, watching how he grabbed something from the pocket of his jeans, making me swallow the lump and laugh nervously.
“I want to promise you that I will treat you how you deserve to be treated. I promise that I will never hurt you or touch you when you don't want to. I promise that I will never make you cry. I promise that I will be only thinking about you, when I wake up, during the day and at night. I promise to cherish you and make you happy and fight whoever dares to make you feel sad”
“Lando…” I smiled softly, feeling my eyes getting wet when I saw him open his hand, showing me a silver ring with two small rocks placed next to the other.
“This is my promise. I'll give you this ring to seal my promise of loving you forever. You owe my heart since the day I first saw you” he said while he put the ring on my ring finger. “This ring has our birthstones, together. Because I really think that we were born to be together, that you are my soulmate, Violet. And now that I found you I will never let you go. I won't leave you”
His words sank in my heart, filling my chest with a warm flame he only knows how to turn on. His touch is delicate, how he holds my hand while I admire the beautiful ring with both stones, topaz and and tanzanite, together.
“Idiot, you are going to make me cry and you just promised me that you won't make me do it” I laughed softly, wiping the little tears of joy that were running down my cheeks.
“Come here” he laughed, wrapping his arms around me, holding me close to him, heart by heart.

Driving through the road that takes me to my childhood village was bittersweet. The first year I was away for my studies I was excited to come back and finally be on my childhood bed with my family again, but as years went by, that feeling started to disappear and it turned more into an obligation rather than something I used to do for pleasure.
Once my life was in order after coming back from the trip with Lando and both of us got used to living around the other, I took some days off from work and forced myself to grab my car and drive home.
The past few days I tried to call Eloise again, as well as her family. But again, none of them answered. She only has her parents, her family is not as big as mine with grandparents that are still alive, uncles and aunts and cousins. That's why she always loved to spend time at my house during holidays, because she had more people around besides her parents.
As I drove past the signal that indicated the main entry of the village, I saw a few flowers on the ground, as well as marks of rubber of the tires that lead to the side of the road. And watching that made me feel shivers running down my spine.
When I parked my car in front of my house I looked at the house next to it, to her house. The light of her room is turned off, even the curtains are closed. Her car is not parked next to the garage.
If she's not here, then where?
I sigh, walking towards the main door of her house and pressing the doorbell, sighing when I noticed the lights were turned off.
“Hello? Eloise, I want to talk!”
Seconds later the door opened, and my smile dropped when I found her mother looking at me. I was surprised to find her wearing dark clothes, always used to see her wearing bright and neutral colors. Her gaze is not even the same, and the smile she always drew when I came to their house is no longer there.
“What are you doing here?” she frowned, her voice sounding rougher than I expected. “You are not welcomed here anymore”
“What? But… Jane, I want to talk with Eloise… I-”
“Leave this house now! You already did enough. How dare you come back here after everything you did to her? Are you insane?!”
“But… I just…”
“I don't want to see you” she groaned, closing the door on my face.
What did just happen?
I frowned, trying to call again, but I was  answered with silence. I sighed, giving up and walked to my house, opening the door and closing it behind me.
“Lottie, is that you?”
I smiled weakly and sighed when I recognized the voice of my grandma, so I walked towards the living room. She was there, on her chair next to the fireplace and whatever she was knitting. The moment she saw me I could see her face light up, smiling softly and leaving both needles on her lap and opening her arms, inviting me to a hug.
“I'm home, nana” I whispered, kneeling to be at her height and hugging her. “Did Eloise come by? It's been a while since I talked with her…”
“Oh, little Lottie…” she whispered. “You came late, my girl”
“Late? Why?” I frowned, pulling away from the hug and looking at her.
“She's no longer here” she smiled weakly.
“What? Then where? She lives here”
Eloise's dream since she was little was to be the owner of the restaurant we always visited when we were little. Everytime we got out of school, we went to that place to have a chocolate milkshake while we did our homework. It was our place, sitting on the fourth table that is next to the door, facing the window and with views to the park.
In that restaurant, during summer, she worked there to make money. She was a waitress, a cashier, and she cleaned the place. But what she loved the most was the moments she worked in the kitchen. She discovered her passion for cooking in the stoves of that restaurant and it helped her decide that she wanted to be a professional chef.
When we moved to London, we lived together during the first years of our studies. She went to the cooking academy while I went to the university. And when she finished her years of formation, she started working on restaurants until she gained a name, a reputation.
Her dream was always going back to our village and make that restaurant a place tourists would go to experience the gastronomy of our country. She always wanted to be a reference in the kitchen.
“Maybe she's in the restaurant” I frowned, getting up and looking around.
Maybe that's why her car is not parked. Because she stayed longer in the restaurant, as usual.
“No, Violet”
I took a deep breath when I heard my cousin's voice behind me. Maya, the oldest one, already married and with a kid.
“Come on, will someone tell me what is going on? Why did Jane say that I'm no longer welcomed? I'm so lost! Where is Eloise?”
“Let me take you somewhere” she smiled weakly, grabbing the keys of her car.
I frown and look at my grandma, watching how she nodded with a sad smile on her lips. Somehow, what is happening it's not good, I could tell because of the shivers that were running all over my body.
I followed Maya, getting inside her car and watching out of the window, hoping she would take me to the restaurant where I thought Eloise would be working. But when she turned to the left, going to the road that goes to the church and next to it to the cemetery, I heart skipped a beat.
No, right? This can't be happening.
“Where are we going?” I frowned, feeling how my hands started to get sweaty, feeling how my heart was beating in my throat making me feel nauseous.
Maya didn't say anything, she only looked at me with a sad smile while she parked the car. She got out and waited for me to follow her, something that took me around a minute. But she waited for me, she stood in front of the car with her hands inside of the pockets of her black coat.
“Come on” she sighed, biting her lip and walking.
Every step I made sounded louder in my ears and it increased the anxiety I was feeling. That anxiety started to become panic and fear.
“Here” Maya sighed, standing in front of a gravestone.
I didn't want to read what it said. I didn't want to know who was buried there. It was recent, the smell of flowers was still recent and I could see that the marble was still shining.
“No” I mumbled, feeling how I was choking with a scream. “No, no. It can't be. No. You are joking, right? This is a cruel joke. Eloise is working in the restaurant and she just wanted to play around, making me pay for something I don't even know I've done. Please, Maya…”
“I’m sorry” she mumbled. “It happened some weeks ago… But Harry came and said that you two stopped being friends and something about you betraying her”
“No!” I exclaimed, looking at her and letting my tears fall. “None of that! Why would I betray her? Just because I chose myself first? Harry is the problem! He manipulated me so many times!”
“May I remind you that you couldn't stop saying that you loved him?” she said, and somehow that made me flinch. “That he saved you from being raped? That he was always next to you and that you felt so bad and jealous because you wanted to be in Eloise's shoes?”
“That was before I knew the truth…”
“So what? Now that you are having a love story worthy of a fairy tale with that driver you think that you can forget about your family and friends?!”
I closed my eyes, breathing deeply. Maybe she's right… Maybe I was too focused on Lando and I stopped caring for my family… No. Lando has nothing to do with this. He showed me how it is to be loved, he showed me how it is to be loved by a family.
“I tried” I whisper. “I tried to call her, to talk to her. Lando told them to leave the trip because of things that happened between him and Harry. And Eloise wasn't the best friend during those days either. But I never stopped texting her and calling her. She was the one that ghosted me…”
“Look, I'm sorry, okay?” she sighed. “Eloise was a good girl, she didn't deserve this ending”
I swallowed thickly and looked at the flowers. I smiled sadly. There are roses on it, her favorite flower.
“Can you leave me alone?” I whisper.
I heard her walk away without saying anything, and when I felt I was alone, I let out a sob.
How on Earth could this happen? When? Why? Why her? Why did no one tell me? My own family forgot to tell me that my childhood best friend is dead. Those tyre’s marked at the entry of the village and the flowers… It happened that way?
I felt incredibly nauseous and the need to throw up was real, making me run to a tree and bow, emptying my stomach. I tried to breathe, but the tears and the burn on my throat made it impossible.
“Just… why?” I cried, looking back at the grave. “Why? It's not fair! I didn't betray you. Did you feel like that? I chose myself first, for the first time, Eloise. I chose love first… Why did you never answer my calls and texts? It wasn't my fault Harry blackmailed Lando, it wasn't my fault at all… And still you believed him. If there was one who was betrayed, that was me”
I wanted to blame her. But… Is she the one to blame? She loved Harry, she followed him. Of course she did. I would do the same.
“It's not fair at all, Eli” I mumble. “What am I supposed to do now? I just… God. Who am I supposed to talk with about my problems? About my life? Life is unfair, why the hell did you have to leave this way? Who am I going to tell that Lando and I are dating? That he promised me he's going to marry me? Who am I going to ask to be my maid of honor? What the hell am I supposed to do without you, Eloise?”
It hurts so bad. It hurt realizing that she's not here anymore. It hurt so bad realizing that she won't be next to me anymore, that she won't make her dreams come true.
“I'm nothing without you…”
It hurts. But what hurts the most is that for the first time I experienced what is it to lose someone you love, someone that was important for you.
“I just… I'll miss you, Eli, so much. I already do”
I took a deep breath and just let the tears fall while I fixed the flowers on her grave, tracing with my fingers the letters of it.
“In loving memory of Eloise Taylor. Born on the 23 of October of 1999” I whisper, feeling a knot on my throat as I traced the next words of it. “Dead… The 27 of December of 2023”
-
I felt empty, so empty.
When I returned to London, instead of going back home, I went somewhere else.
The park where Eloise and I went to spend our afternoons together was close to the first apartment I ever lived in, with her. It was on the other side of London, in a small neighborhood. I sat on a bench, right next to a streetlight, and hugged myself.
I didn't notice how long I stayed there until I looked at my phone, reading the notifications of messages and missed calls.
Lando🧡: how are things going? Did you talk with her?
Lando🧡: text me once you are coming back home, okay? I'll make something for dinner
Lando🧡: Babe?
Lando🧡: is everything okay? I'm worried
Lando🧡: Baby, please answer. Where are you? It's late and it's getting dark
Lando🧡 missed calls (3)
I took a deep breath and smiled weakly, pressing the call button and placing the phone on my phone.
“Violet? Thank God!”
“Lando…”
“Where are you? Are you still in your village? You are staying with Eloise? Did you talk?”
“Lando, she…”
“God, I was so worried” he sighed, relieved.
“She's dead”
“What? What did you say?”
“Eloise” I mumble, sniffling softly. “Eloise is dead… she's no longer here. She… she died”
Silence. He was quiet. I could hear his breathing, how it got stuck on his throat.
“Where are you”
“I… I need to be alone” I whisper.
“Violet please…”
I closed my eyes tightly and took a deep breath, telling him the address of where I am. He didn't end the call, he stayed on it, making me hear everything he did, how he walked out of the apartment, how he went to his car and turned the engine on.
“There you are” he sighed, ending the call and sitting next to me.
I felt his arms wrapping me and pulling me to his chest, holding me tight.
“How did it happen?” he mumbled, brushing my hair with his fingers.
“She… she crashed” I whisper. “She was going home and the road was frozen…”
“Oh…”
“What am I going to do without her?” I whisper “I… I feel like someone took something away from me, a part of my heart. A-and she left thinking that I betrayed her… she left and no one told me because Harry said…”
“Harry knew?” Lando frowned. “And he didn't tell you?”
“N-no…” I mumble, looking up at him. “He told her parents that we argued… That's why they didn't call me”
Lando took a deep breath and kissed my forehead. He held my hand and kissed it.
“This just made me realize how scared I am to lose you” I said looking at him.
“You won't lose me” he said, cupping my cheek and resting his forehead against mine, closing his eyes. “You won't lose me, ever. I made a promise, remember? I promised that I will never let you go, that I will never leave you”
“What am I supposed to do, Lando?” I whisper. “I lost Eloise because of a car… How am I supposed to feel knowing that you work in one? I just…”
“You will never lose me” he repeated, squeezing my hand. “I'll make sure of that. I'll start every race and finish it to be next to you. You are my checkered flag. I'll race as much as I have to just to get out of the car and hold you”
“Just… never leave me” I whisper. “Never, okay?”
“Never” he nodded. “You have my heart, I can't live without it. Just keep it safe with you and everything will be alright”

SETTING THE STAGE! : The former ramshackle prefect had barely managed to escape—it had been a stunt that had taken months or perhaps longer (time had become hard to keep track of after being locked in the same place for years) to pull off however what mattered now was getting as far away as he physically could. Even if it was the last thing he ended up doing he couldn’t go back to that wretched place.
His breathing was uneven and shallow as his limbs ached with the sudden strain that covered his body with a suffocating grip as a consequence of the physical activity he had just forced his body to go through after years of not being able to move farther than what his prison allowed him.
His pace faltered for a minute as he tripped over a thick root of one of the trees that he had failed to properly acknowledge and dodge in his desperate sprint. With his heartbeat on the back of his throat, he quickly scurried back to his feet with paranoia dancing on the edge of his vision.
It was impossible to not associate any sound with that guy—and if he successfully managed to get out of this forest that surrounded where he had previously been captured for the sake of a sick twisted way of love he doubted that he would ever be able to go back to the life he previously had.
And as a branch snapped behind him his greatest fears were confirmed as the person whom he had been trying to escape from, his captor, his ‘precious romantic partner’ was standing there with a look of turmoil on their face that the outlander doubts won’t haunt him in his nightmares.
In that moment right before his so-called lover could even speak the former beast tamer had opened his eyes to his old ceiling that was covered in spider webs from ramshackle back when he was still attending Night Raven College—
Wait what?

# — 𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐃𝐋𝐄 𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐒! [TIMELINE: AFTER LEONA'S OVERBLOT!]
Riddle wasn’t sure what exactly was going on with the Ramshackle prefect recently—it felt odd seeing them around school with this look of wonder and dare he even say melancholic on his face. He furrowed his eyebrows in deep thought while slowly trying to gather his thoughts together with the most recent events that had happened around here, first there was the conversation he had heard from the first years of his dorms who had tried to whisper in low tones about how odd Yuu had started acting since this morning (something which he had of course reprimanded them on doing harshly and barely held himself back from putting a fitting collar on their necks instead letting them off with a two thousand word essay of why they should not gossip about the prefect anyone)
Yuu and him had managed to find a routine he adored liked well enough to not do much changes even if it caused him to stay up late at night catching up to his work. After class they would meet up and he would teach the ramshackle resident about Twisted Wonderland’s history and alchemy which the other seemed to have never taken a class off before attending Night Raven College—it had been something he had found very suspicious at first which was why he had been forced to be more aggressive with his approach of finding out why.
Riddle was sure that his words back then were justified, especially now that he knew that his close companion was an outlander. Something that greatly reminded him of one of the many stories surrounding the Queen of Hearts—perhaps this was just proof his help was indeed needed by the magic-less student who was like a lost chick in a pack of wild animals. As a Housewarden the minimum he could do for the one that helped him through his overblot and the shameful aftermath he had to experience was guiding him through this world and making sure he was well educated on the dangers this realm had.
And sure he did have to take care of some of the more pesky students who seemed intent on making his new companion—a honorary Heartslabyul student life more miserable than he already had it, but he would do that for any of his other dorm members or friends so there was nothing to worry about (when he told Trey about his actions regarding the prefect he had noticed the pause in the clover’s action before everything had gone back to normal while Trey seemed to encourage to pursue his feelings, something that he won’t admit to not had understood back then)
(He verbally questioned the odd look he had received by Cater but had been laughed off by the former who insisted he was reminded that he had school work to soon complete)
In the end it hadn’t been more than two days before he had ultimately gotten fed up with the pointed avoidance of him out of everyone else. Riddle wouldn’t admit to anyone how much space it had taken in his mind, then as if it hadn’t been enough strain the last incident happened where he had overhead Grim complain about the prefect not wanting to leave ramshackle for anything except to meet the headmaster about unknown matters—to be more precise leaving the school.
And hadn’t that just made the hollow feeling in his heart grow so rapidly he wouldn’t have been surprised if the anguish was enough to suffocate him.
So it shouldn’t come to a surprise to anyone that he had been knocking on ramshackle’s dorm door one step away from actually knocking it down due to the force he was using each time his hand came in contact with the already fragile door. A hurried hand opened the door and he had been left staring at the horrified eye’s of Yuu who was looking at him like he didn’t know him.
It was a weird experience as in one second Riddle was staring at the horrified face of the prefect and in the next second he had been forcefully pushed away from the entrance and gotten the door shut in his face.
He had tried demanding an answer by raising his voice through the door demanding an answer to this attitude. When he realized it would get him nowhere was after hours of trying to coax Yuu to let him in—but just because he had decided to go back to Heartslabyul didn’t mean he was anywhere near done he was determined to get to the bottom of this abnormal behavior even if it was the last thing he would do. The frustration wasn’t something that could easily be resolved though, frustration at this odd behavior, frustration at himself for not being able to solve this faster, and frustration at Yuu himself for deciding to take such an immature response to whatever was happening.
And even thinking of leaving him just like that? Like he was a replaceable toy he could throw away after he was of no use anymore, did he not meet the prefect standard? Did his teaching methods perhaps become too difficult or inefficient for him? If so he would change. Whether it was his temper, his academic achievement or his personality—he wouldn’t mind changing just for him. As long as Yuu didn’t leave him in the dust he was willing to take more drastic measures to not have the floor crumble under his feet.
But first he would have to form a better position for himself, and now that would only be done if he managed to speak to Yuu face to face—and while he didn’t like to admit the only way to currently do so was through Ace and Deuce. Those who he has still yet to completely warm up and probably never will with how distracting and downright clingy they would be towards Yuu, it’s not that he had anything against them specifically, of course not! But they just weren’t a good influence towards Yuu. Since the first day incident and all the other messes they have managed to drag the prefect into, was it a crime to be worried for his friend?
Surely not.
Which was why he had made sure to give them a king lasting task outside of the dorms while sending Cater to persuade Yuu into a more secluded space where he and his dorm leader could talk to in private without disruptive activities.
Riddle would be lying if he didn’t notice the conflicting emotions that crossed the diamond’s face didn’t make him raise an eyebrow at his odd behavior but couldn’t allow himself to think much of it as he had more urgent matters at hand and if some more pressure needed to be put in his subjects to make him more efficient he will do so.
And what better way to do so than the spot at the library in which they had managed to study for days for different assessments—it was a place he considered to hold sentimental value for both of them. Riddle had done just what was needed to make this encounter near perfect, and sure he did resort to a method that was not as gentleman as he would have liked—and he of course hadn’t forgotten to in estimate ways that could make his and the perfect’s meeting more smoothly, and he had ended up in the potion section of the library.
This was of course more of a precaution than anything! It was just a more psychological potion that could help soothe someone’s nerve in a very efficient way(something that he had planned on giving Yuu as soon as he saw him)
“Ah, you have finally arrived! I’ve noticed a drastic change in your behavior towards me since last week—huh? What’s with the expression on your face? Are you upset I didn’t go get you myself? Don’t worry I’ll make it up to you soon, so why don’t you take a seat first?”

# — SILVER! [TIMELINE : AFTER AZUL'S OVERBLOT]
Silver wasn’t as distracted as others were led to believe, most of his inconveniences came due to his particular condition but even then he could find a way to work around it (sometimes) but that of course didn’t translate to him being sloppy when awake. He had learned from the best and he would be damned if he let it go to waste—which was why even before his father had pointed out the unusual behavior of Yuu to him, Silver had already realized by day two that something was amiss.
Not too long after the failure that was this year's entrance ceremony he had the fortune of meeting the ramshackle prefect while trying to find some food resources to feed the horses of the club and had the pleasure of meeting Yuu.
It was a short but pleasant meeting so it wasn’t a surprise when next time they both saw each other they had engaged in a larger conversation than before and instantly hit it off. It wasn’t something he was trying very hard to find if anything he was uncharacteristically giddy over this new friendship and how at ease and natural it felt to just be with the prefect. Which was probably why it didn’t take two looks from his father for him to spill about the new freshman that had gotten his attention—what he hadn't expected was for the fae to have a mischievous smile on his face while muttering something about ‘growing up too fast’.
But Silver had always been a quick person of action so with some pushes to the right direction it hadn’t taken him long to put one and two together about why the urge to become glued to the prefect’s side had become impossible to ignore—so the next day with the help of his father and a grumbling Sebek he had managed to ask Yuu out on a date. It hadn’t been the last time it would occur but the day he had said yes was probably one Silver would remember for a long time.
But nothing is ever that easy is it? It felt maddening every time he had to walk to the nurse office to visit the person who he was considering spending the rest of his life with because Yuu had managed to somehow land himself in the middle of an overblot. During Leona’s overblot was the only time where he had managed to be of use by annihilating any Savanaclaw student that had been involved with this pathetic plan to win against his liege—that wasn’t his only motivation of course. But it just added to the anger that seemed to bubble in his chest.
Then he had heard of the incident with Azul and the twins and it just seemed to make everything worse. It was a surprise to hear the reason why Yuu had made the deal in the first place was because of those people that he hanged around made more sense all of the sudden. Of course he wouldn’t be the one doing such reckless actions; it was obviously done by the less than ideal people that surrounded him—Silver wouldn’t be able to have a clear conscience if he didn’t help out his dear partner when dealing with less than ideal people.
Originally he had intended to go to Lilia for advice but due to some matters with his own club he had an eye opening run in with his liege who seemed quite perspective towards Silver’s latest issues. Truly he couldn’t and shouldn’t have dared to spill more about the issues that plagued his mind regarding the prefect but he knew if there was another person who he could trust that also matched his father’s wisdom was the young master.
So spill his guts he did, and unlike what he had expected for the reaction to be he instead got an advice that would probably shape the way he would treat his own romantic relationships for years to come.
“One knows how deceitful matters of hearts can be, this is way the way towards your desired achievements should probably hold a more firm approach—young inexperienced children of man cannot always distinguish between what’s beneficial and harmful.”
A more hands on approach would be needed to deal with the more harmful thorns of the bunch, a necessary sacrifice which he would gladly dispose of if it leaned the healthiness and happiness of his dear. Which was why he had started to perhaps share his concerns about the Heartslabyul freshman duo who seemed to be breaking more severe rules per day with Riddle who while trying to be more lenient with his subjects would not hesitate to put those he deemed out of place back to where they belong. Never let it be known that a ten thousand word essay per day didn’t keep s perdon busy. Right after that he had the misfortune of dealing with the other pest but the solution quite literally came to him in the best time possible as he realized how easily the animal could be bribed to do things with a can of tunas that required his presence far away from ramshackle and it’s other human resident.
It didn’t have the most positive reaction from the prefect once he realized that the friends he had been hanging out with (and depending on—) had started to be seen less and less till Yuu couldn’t see them around at all. That’s when Silver stepped in and directed his boyfriend to a better solution for his problem, and which better way to make him forget about those pests than dragging him to Diasomnia to spend more time with Silver himself?
It had been a rough start but eventually the prefect had adapted and even formed connections in said dorm—better connections than the ones he used to have.
Everything was going well, at least to Silver. His father had approved of Yuu and while Sebek had made a show of grumbling and butting heads with the ramshackle prefect it was obvious at least to him there wasn’t a real issue between the two, no matter how much the first year’s comment about humans was spit out. And of course his liege had approved since the first moment he had reached out for help when dealing with this particular situation.
Then Yuu had drastically changed his behavior and instead of being attached to the hip together as much as possible he had started actively avoiding Silver and any other resident of Diasomnia—it had baffled him even more when he saw him somehow find the time to talk with the two guys who he had thought were not a problem any more towards his partner’s safety. What in the great seven’s name was going on? It was even harder to pin the prefect down for an explanation himself because as soon as they got in a range to each other Yuu would find a way to slip away as if he knew what action Silver would take next, like an infinite chase of cat and mouse where the prefect was the mouse and he was the cat.
As if this couldn’t get any worse he had also found the prefect to not be attending any of his classes and on top of it all also not sleeping in his dorm. Instead it seemed that he had started sleeping in Heartslabyul, yet all of this was done without saying a word to Silver who was his boyfriend—the person who should have been made aware of this from the start!
It also seemed like everyone was determined to get in his way when trying to rightfully contact his partner. The final straw had been when in the third day of avoiding him Yuu had sent him a text message (which he had been surprised to see as for the last days he had been blocked) but hete was no reason to be happy as the message read, “We are done.” That was all there was, no explanation nor elaboration and it seemed that his unblocked status had been temporary because when he tried to initiate another desperate conversation to the surprise of nobody he had found himself blocked again.
He wasn’t proud to say he had tried everything under the sun to get to talk with Yuu—it wasn’t supposed to escalate to this point. This was the worst possible outcome and the puffy eyes that many of his doormates made a show of not pointing out, perhaps it was for the best to not talk about the mess his hair had become with the lack of care from the human and his temper had increased tenfold when dealing with the other students.
So perhaps he should be grateful when his father had finally put his foot down when he saw him moping around while staring at his phone with a dull look in his eyes.
Enough so that the fae had grabbed matters into his own hands and practically dragged his son’s boyfriend (technically it wasn’t an ex just yet until Silver confirmed so—this was what many would call ‘a bump’ on the road to a better relationship) and locked him in a room until his son came back. It had been a necessary measure, nobody liked stubborn people who refused to speak their problem with their partner—Lilia would make sure that this problem would be resolved even if he had to take some rough measures. And what better way to do so than to use more persuasive techniques to get the reason as to why Yuu had decided to avoid his son so abruptly to the point he started missing class and even begged Crowley to let him leave the school rather than letting him go home.
Sometimes it was necessary to make some hard choices and this was one of them—Lilia wasn’t sure how Silver would take this as he had seen how enamored he was with the boy. But surely he would understand the reason he had used some old methods to get the prefect to speak right?
He had expected many things, expecting the unexpected was the key to win in some situations—but time travel? That was a new one, especially coming from the magicless student. Lilia supposed that it made more sense than a change of heart about the relationship out of nowhere, especially knowing the type of soft heart Yuu wore on his sleeve.
Not the weirdest thing that has happened but probably in the top ten—instead of pondering too much into it he let himself think about how to deliver the news to Silver (he ignored the previous begging from the prefect who had been imploring him to not let his own son know—as if!)
“Time travel? Yuu—why didn’t you tell me? Were you scared I wouldn’t believe you? Who put such ridiculous ideas in your head? I’ll make sure they won’t have a tongue once I’m done with them, but don’t worry I’m here now and won’t let anything happen to you.”

# — RUGGIE BUCCHI! [TIMELINE: AFTER JAMIL'S OVERBLOT]
It had been a surreal day—so much that Ruggie probably looked like a dead man with the glossy eye looks in his eyes that made his pupil look more dead than if he had actually encountered his demise. At least that’s how it looked in the eyes of Savanclaw’s students who had the misfortune of bumping into Ruggie who had done nothing but kept walking while ignoring their questioning shouts after him. But after what the rumor that seemed to have more through that they originally assumed after seeing the state of mind he seemed to be in.
By noon it was already common knowledge that the prefect had broken up with the unofficial vice-housewarden of Savanclaw—it had apparently not been a pretty one where both sides had left to their separate ways after deciding that it was the best thing to do, instead it seemed like Yuu had decided to obilirate the poor hyena by going through a list of reasons why he had been the worst partner he had ever had in his life.
“He really said that?”
“Yes! And it’s wild when the next thing he said was ‘It’s like having a black hole as a boyfriend who doesn’t care about anyone for himself’ pfft!”
“It’s surprising that Yuu decided to snap that way though…”
“I mean they are a Night Raven College student and having somebody like him has to be draining.”
Ruggie had not been planning on leaving his room till he died and became a new person from the inside out so he could be the person right for Yuu, because if he wasn’t the perfect person to date then who would prefect be with? Nobody in this wretched world deserved even an ounce of the love from the ramshackle prefect not even him. But he was the only one who he considered to be the most deserving to be by Yuu’s side—he had made sure everything was adequate from the food he ate to the words he used to communicate was dictated by things that he had seen Yuu being inclined to like.
So how did it come to this? (To the point that even Jack found him pitiful and had made an even worse attempt at comfort by leaving a cactus outside his dorm door) Where had he gone wrong? Did somebody force Yuu to do this? What has he done that made Yuu look at him with such a seething look? He felt like one of those moping housewives in the telenovelas his grandma used to watch after their husband had left in an attempt to ‘protect’ them. He stilled for a minute while his ears twitched as he quickly bolted out of the bed having had one if not the most genius realization in a while.
That was it! There had to be some sort of misunderstanding between the two of the for him to resort to publicly humiliating for something that he wasn’t sure about—Ruggie was determined to ignore the long list of reasons why his boyfriend (not ex, he would never let his partner escape his grasp—how else was he supposed to make sure Yuu didn’t get in trouble again?) had broken up with him which Yuu had also made sure to loudly announce in the courtyard.
On his way to Ramshackle he had bumped into his housewarden but due to the desperation that was clouding his usual judgment, so much to the point he didn’t think twice about ignoring the call for his name as if it was background noise.
But something that he hadn’t taken into consideration was Yuu not being in ramshackle yet, he had almost forgotten that his partner usually preferred staying scooped up in the library at this hour—his plan had gotten some holes in it due to the latest developments but he could grow around it.
He had to.
But it seemed like his boyfriend was determined to play harder to get after the latest verbal argument they had—but then again it was normal for couples to have an argument every now and then right? Ruggie had even read somewhere that it could strengthen the bond between two people! Even if said argument included one of them running away from the other who was desperately trying to catch up to him, enough so that Yuu threw himself out of the window to get away from him. It was something he was not used to, him? Being outrun? He had a sharp eye and even a keener sense of where to turn and when to turn to get to his destination as fast as possible, something that he hasn’t seen being displayed as a skill from Yuu.
But it was more than that, there was something else happening which he couldn’t put his finger on. Because it was almost as if Yuu knew his moves better than he himself knew them, something that just didn’t make sense as he had not been observed that often by his boyfriend for him to be able to analyze and break down any pattern in his behavior. But then again even Ruggie could admit that being discreet was not his boyfriend’s greatest strength, a belief that was preserved after hearing the ‘private’ conversation that Yuu and Grim were having in the middle of the library (while it was true nobody was supposed to be in the library at this time by order of the headmaster himself it still didn’t mean people didn’t sneak in for one reason to the other—yet Yuu was being so careless by outing this ‘time travel’ issue without thinking about the consequences if anybody were to hear then talking! This just proved his point of his boyfriend needing him to survive)
Yet this also explained more than he would admit, of course he didn’t believe one second that time travel was what really had been at play as only a noteworthy mage who could be categorized to be one if not the strongest of the world could achieve control over such a volatile element like time and space—while Yuu was magicless. There were too many details being excluded for him to even remotely believe it. But what if Yuu truly believed that was the case? Maybe it had been an overactive nightmare or an illusion casted on him as cruel prank (if that was the case then he would make sure the Night Raven College’s number of students would be down one or maybe more) either way the matter was that something or somebody had infested his boyfriend’s mind and made him become irrational and break up with Ruggie.
So the reason why his hand had been forced to forcefully take Grim right under Yuu’s nose was to use a necessary bait, a needed sacrifice if he was being more specific (one that he wouldn’t hesitate to sacrifice if needed) he needed to find a way to bring those dumb ideas that somebody had implanted on his boyfriend about time travel out of his brain. Even if he had to use a spell or a less than legal potion to achieve the desired results. He would do anything to get back how things were before, he was now just keeping his word on never leaving Yuu alone.

─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ── This idea came to me in a vision while i was rewatching the show. This first chapter is more of an introduction because the reader (SPOILER AHEAD) hasn't travelled back in time yet. I wanted to get this chapter out of the way as soon as possible so i can start writing the more interesting ones hehe. This fic will be a Johnny Soap MacTavish X Reader, but you are technically married to Graves in this chapter. He won't really show up after this unless you're talking about him.
Warnings : Some suggestive dialogue, implied sex. No use of Y/N, Female Reader ─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
PART 1 Inverness, 2018 People disappear all the time. Ask any policeman. Better yet, ask a journalist. Young girls run away from home. Children stray from their parents and are never seen again. Housewives reach the end of their tether and take the grocery money and a taxi to the station. International financiers change their names and vanish into the smoke of imported cigars. Many of the lost will be found, eventually, dead or alive. Disappearances, after all, have explanations. The little inn did not look like a place people would disappear in. Mrs. Baird’s looked like any other run down Highland bed and breakfast. With peeling paint and near dead flowers, the smell of cigarette smoke stuck to the walls in the rooms. Mrs. Baird herself almost looked like her inn. In her late sixties, always bustling and talking, still she made no objections when Phillip turned the room she rented us into a second office. His laptop and papers strewn around the desk, walls now had something akin to maps tacked onto them. It was your husband’s great idea to take a second honeymoon trip. Inverness was a strange choice, the setting so different from the one you were used to in Texas. But when Phillip came to you with two plane tickets and news that a one month break was needed, you wouldn’t even dare to turn him down. Walking down the rickety stairs of the inn, you found your husband sitting in an armchair near a fireplace, a book about the Jacobite rebellion in his hands. He looked so peaceful sitting in the maroon chair, the flames from the fire basking him in a soft glow. “How long are you going to stand there and stare at me Mrs. Graves?” your lips quirked up in a smile as you walked over to your husband. He set his book down on a coffee table and beckoned you to sit across his lap. Your hands found their home looped around his neck and he smoked into your collarbone. “I don’t know Mr. Graves, you make a fine subject for staring, maybe I’ll never stop” you giggled and ran your hands through his hair. The sudden quietness behind you two told you that Mrs. Baird has put down her broom and was covertly watching you. While golf and fishing are Scotland’s most popular outdoor sports, gossip is the most popular indoor sport. And when it rains as much as it does in Scotland, people spend a lot of time indoors. “She’s staring again” You mumbled and Phillip donned a devilish grin. Suddenly he hoisted you up and ran the length of the stairs to your room. The sudden change made giggles erupt from your mouth as you clutched tighter to him. ‘“What in god’s name are you doing!” You yelled at him through fits of your giggles and your husband threw you down on the bed, before getting on it himself. He was halfway sitting up, with his knees digging into the mattress and he smiled at you. “I’d hate for the dear old thing to be disappointed in us,” he answered. Sitting up on the side of the ancient bed, he bounced gently up and down, creating a piercing rhythmic squeak. The footsteps in the hall stopped abruptly. After a minute or two of bouncing, Phillip gave a loud, theatrical groan and collapsed backward with a twang of protesting springs. You giggled helplessly into a pillow, so as not to disturb the breathless silence outside. Phillip waggled his eyebrows at you. “You’re supposed to moan ecstatically, not giggle,” he admonished in a whisper. “She’ll think I’m not a good lover.” “You’ll have to keep it up for longer than that, if you expect ecstatic moans,” You answered. “Two minutes doesn’t deserve any more than a giggle.” “Inconsiderate little wench. I came here for a rest, remember?”
“Lazybones. You’ll never manage the next branch on your family tree unless you show a bit more industry than that.” Both of you chuckled as Phillip moved to lay next to you, bringing his hand around your middle and squishing you closer to his chest. That’s how sleep found you, being held close by your husband’s strong arms as his rhythmic heartbeat slowly lulled you into sweet sleep. The rustling sounds of your husband getting dressed stirred you from your dreams. You slowly sat up in the bed and stretched, the downpour outside has finally stopped which meant you two would be walking around town tonight. “ Let’s stop at that pub from yesterday. That might’ve been the best salmon I’ve ever eaten” Phillip noticed that you woke up and started making plans about today’s escapades. First you were going to meet some tour guide that would drive you two to some historical sites and then back to Inverness. “I distinctly heard the barman at that pub last night refer to us as Sassenachs.”
“Well, why not?” said Phillip. “It only means ‘Englishman,’ after all, or at worst, ‘outlander,’ and we’re all of that.”
“I know what it means. It was the tone I objected to.” Phillip searched through the bureau drawer for a belt. “He was just annoyed because I told him the ale was weak. I told him the true Highland brew requires an old boot to be added to the vat, and the final product to be strained through a well-worn undergarment.”
“Ah, that accounts for the amount of the bill.”
“Well, I phrased it a little more tactfully than that, but only because the Gaelic language hasn’t got a specific word for drawers.”
You reached for a pair of your own underwear, intrigued. “Why not? Did the ancient Gaels not wear undergarments?”
Phillip leered. “You’ve never heard that old song about what a Scotsman wears beneath his kilts?”
“ No and I’d rather not hear about it now. Off to the bath you go, the stench of the fire still clings to your hair” You playfully messed with it and your husband smiles, cupping your face in his hand and kissing your brow.
“Only if you join me”
The walk to the town square was a bit hard, dull ache between your thighs after Phillip decided to fuck you senseless in the shower, was making itself known. Taking small steps you idly window-shopped. Your husband was on the phone, talking to the tour guide when your eyes caught sight of a vase. It looked tacky, the colors were bright and the shape was a bit lopsided but the drawing depicted on the vase itself was beautiful. A myriad of large stones in a valley, the sunset drawn behind it was basking the stone in a soft glow.
Soon you found yourself meeting Phillip at the crossing of the High Street and the Gereside Road and you turned up the road together. He raised his eyebrows at your purchases.
“Vases?” He smiled. “Wonderful. Perhaps now you’ll stop putting flowers in my books.”
“They aren’t flowers, they’re specimens. And it was you who suggested I take up botany. To occupy my mind, now that I’ve not got nursing to do,” You reminded him.
“True.” He nodded good-humoredly. “But I didn’t realize I’d have bits of greenery dropping out into my lap every time I opened a reference. What was that horrible crumbly brown stuff you put in Tuscum and Banks?”
“Groutweed. Good for hemorrhoids.”
“Preparing for my imminent old age, are you? Well, how very thoughtful of you.” You two laughed as suddenly a small green car stopped in front of you. The man in the driver’s side seat looked no more than fifty. Big rimmed glasses sat atop his small nose, wild curly hair had bits of gray in it and you noticed one golden tooth as he sent a smile your way.
“ Mr. and Mrs. Graves! Pleasure to meet ya, I’m Colm I’ll be takin’ ye to Craigh Na Dun”

So, I know you don’t think there was much to Sam and Monika Clarke after those photos showed up in March of 2022. This ask isn’t about them, btw. Whatever those photos were it was 18+ months ago. Since you usually try to be as logical as you can, have you seen any evidence that you think is credible of anyone he has actually dated since then? Like more than one date here or there. It’s like those photos dropped, then supposedly the photographer said around Easter of ‘22 that they “ broke up so he could go back to an ex.” But we haven’t seen any ex that he’s actually dated. Have we?
Since those photos there’s been innuendo about Katrina K, Karina E, Chloe M, Georgia E, Susie E and probably a couple names I forgot . Have you seen any logical proof that makes you think he ACTUALLY dated any of them?
I’m starting to think he’s pretty happy on his own and very tired himself of all the innuendo. Most of us settle a little more as we get into our 40’s- whether that means a relationship or just being content on our own. Maybe hes decided that he won’t seriously try to date again unless it’s someone he really wants to be with. It’s got to be difficult to get someone to date him if she knows about this fandom and honestly, about his dating record of the past 10 years. (We don’t know much about what he was like before OL.) I kind of hope he’s doing some serious reflection on where he wants to be professionally and personally post Outlander and whether that includes a relationship or not. I also hope he’s getting some counseling, if he wants it, to help him figure out who he wants to be in the next phase of his life and to help him with his own self-proclaimed personal issues.
Just wondering if you have seen signs of real dates, or if these patterns of assuming he is dating any woman even thought to be connected to him are just the same old stuff that’s been happening for years in this fandom.
Tumblr media
Ugh... where to start...
In general, I can only say, a pattern of speculations and innuendos about rumors/dating/affairs connecting women to him are most of the time kept alive by the fandom, or should I say certain parts of the fandom itself that thrive by it, or desperately wants to connect him with a woman.
After the MC pics, which actually ended the speculation about AM, with whom he was seen a number of times. A video in London as well as pics and videos in Paris. Especially the Paris videos surely implied an affair with AM. Shortly after the Paris trip (and rumored skitrip after Paris) he went to LA and NZ. People tried to keep the affair alive, telling he would be in SA with her, and she would come with him to NZ. They certainly would be together for Valentine's Day. Needless to say, nothing of the kind happened and AM became old news when the MC pics surfaced beginning of March 2022.
Beyond the infamous cafe kiss nothing ever could connect her in anyway to him. Nevertheless, innuendo was created on the fly by the usual ones. Even when he was spotted in a YT video with KK end of April 2022. The vibe wasn't one of a date or affair though, and couldn't stop the MC speculations.
Summer came with the usual flood of names sent to inboxes. KE was one of them, and became a bit more interesting when he appeared to be on a roadtrip. Even after he posted some pics from it by himself, and after posting the video of his 48 hours in LV, speculation about MC was still kept alive. All the pics that could be found from the John L concert in LV were analyzed and yes, he was spotted in some with 'a woman'. Though that far away that it was merely impossible to positively identify the woman. The queen of innuendo even identified her as MC in the beginning. Until someone spotted the infamous dog in the cowboy pics of his roadtrip... that's when KE became speculation number one so to say.
A pic with her has never been seen, never was there anything else than the rumored dog. Despite many attempts to connect her or even put her in the same place as him, all proof of that is circumstantial and most of it even far fetched. So much that up to today she hasn't been out of the speculations and innuendo.
Do you see the pattern, and how it is created by certain parts of this fandom? I bet, with an open mind, you can all confirm we've seen exactly the same the past months.
GE, nothing else but spotted at the athletic games in Ratingen, Germany on a Sunday. Based on some history, someone kept sending the most fantastic innuendo to my inbox all summer. Cinderella and Kristina S, Emily S, nothing but innuendo, not even the slightest shred of suspicion.
Susie E. People take it for granted she's the woman on the booze boat, I'm sorry, I'm waiting patiently for the white Prada sunnies or the blue bikini on her IG. A video in the suite at Shutters where he recorded an interview is somewhat questionable, but doesn't make an affair nor a romantic weekend. Telling me she was not posting on IG isn't evidence she was on a romantic trip to Nevis with him. All innuendo created by the fandom.
I'm pretty much with you Anon 1, about the last part of your message and your conclusions. We know some of his dating life before OL, he was described being a flirt in a very old article. He mentioned about dating an actress he worked with during his theater days during Waypoints interviews as well as mentioning some other stories about dating. Nothing new, he said himself he had dates, he's not living the life of a monk. Being single doesn't mean you have all kind of issues, though he mentioned some things from his youth.
Anyway, more and more people live a single life or only find their partner later on in life. We all make our own choices based on our own priorities, opportunities and challenges we see before us.
