the most notable sticker-outer--yea she's green. i mean cmon we have enough red and no green and everybody knows science is green. anyway this is another one of my favs. vapor clouds and bubbles what's not to love

i do love the embroidery in the show, especially how, yk, much there is of it, and how identifiable it makes it, but on the other hand the books only ever mention the cuffs and hems so i like to think i struck a nice balance

under a cut for discussions of the above content and also mild comics spoilers if you care about that lol

yep, the comics are very textually about reactions to extreme trauma (familial trauma but with the extra layer of being famous and under scrutiny from the public eye since childhood - its own kind of isolation) and the characters are intentionally flawed and do fucked up things. the whole point is that it's a dark subversion of the superhero team genre, which was a lot more original/groundbreaking in 2007 than it appears now (definitely not the first one ofc - gerard was inspired by watchmen and doom patrol, and the boys came out not long before etc, but it did win an eisner back then for a reason). in the comics, rumor goes through a divorce and loses custody of her child, then reacquaints with her step-siblings who she hasn't seen in years after hargreeves's death. because she feels incapable of giving or receiving real love or human connection, has been taught from infancy that her power and her physical beauty are the only worthwhile things about her, and has nobody else in the world, she uses her power to make spaceboy fall in love with her. it's textually a non-consensual relationship right from the start and is acknowledged as a fucked up & harmful trauma response and treated as such. these aren't comics for kids lol.

imo the fundamental issue with the show that makes it unpalatable to me is that it tries to water down the content for a netflix (and preteen) audience, but then they still left in parts of the allison/luther plot, only they took out the whole 'rumor' aspect and ended up portraying as. romantic. and not tragic and disturbing lol. so the show had to backpedal and didn't textually denounce it as anything more than harmlessly cringey until like season 3. a similar thing happens to the seance's addiction storyline, which is a big deal and has very real consequences in the comics but kinda got played for laughs in later episodes of the show, and with portrayals of genuine disability, almost all of which are erased in the netflix adaptation (spaceboy requires a full-body mechanised assistive device to move, rumor is missing an arm and the kraken an eye, and vanya acquires a traumatic brain injury which impairs her motor and cognitive functioning etc.)

i'm certainly not saying the comics are perfect - their biggest issue is how white they are (which gerard has acknowledged and said he regrets) and some (presumably) unintentional racist imagery/stereotypes (e.g. the bodyguard abhijat who feels tokenised, and most other characters of colour being background non-speaking roles etc). those are things the comics can, should, and have been criticised for, but i don't see the step-sibling incest as it's portrayed in the comics as ~problematic - it's definitely supposed to be uncomfortable, at least in my reading of it. much more than it is in the show, in any case.

so overall like. the comics are super not for everyone, even beyond gerard's unconventional pacing/writing style that i know some people don't vibe with. they weren't meant for a wide audience. they're very dark and are primarily about fucked up trauma responses more than anything else - luther and allison's relationship is just one of these. i personally love the comics but it's totally understandable if other people find them unpalatable - but yk, dark media isn't immoral when it knows what it's doing. imo if the show was going to leave some of those darker plot points in they should have made the entire tone of the show darker and raised the rating; otherwise, they should have left out aspects like the step-sibling incest.

but yeah, tl;dr yes there's step-sibling incest in both versions, but it's treated very differently in both and imo is so much grosser in the show becuase they tried to make it palatable at first for some fkn reason lmao.

and beyond your question and just in general, the tv show being attributed to gerard when it's not his artistic content bothers me so so so much skdkffk. even if i totally loved the show, i can't staaaand things being miscredited, especially creative things. gerard's given steve blackman his blessing to make the show his own vision, and says he considers the comics and the netflix version entirely separate entities and has made a conscious effort to distance himself from the latter.

his full name is Joseph :) and he used to have longer hair and was considered pretty plain personality wise. just some guy yk?

he used to live on a Bighorner ranch in a pretty christian community (church at sundays, prayers, etc etc) he never liked animals all that much which is why he became a courier...altho he also wanted to try and do his own thing too!!

eventually he earned enough caps to get a cross tattooed on his upper arm because he was super religious like his family and wanted to show hes a good person and devoted and loved his community

and then Benny happened :(

now he doesnt remember ANYTHING about his past life. the only things he does remember are vague memories of church and praying and because he doesnt understand it or have the context of it hes now terrified of religion and finds imagery of it deeply unsettling

but he also feels a weird amount of guilt and shame because he feels like religion had a huge positive influence on him but he just cant remember it/understand it/pinpoint it!! so he just doesnt know what to do or think of it. his tattoo now makes him feel really strange :( he feels like he has a connection to it but he also wants nothing to do with it

on a lighter note...hes got like stupidly high luck and low/mid intelligence. hes not stupid but hes pretty naive and too trusting of people. hes not very convincing (speech wise) but hes naturally super likable :)

he has a wide network of people who ~kinda~ like him (more as a “awh he’s a bit daft but he’s got his heart in the right place” kinda opinion) but theres also people who outright hate him cause of how annoying he is to deal with

^ one of those being the Kings. he demanded to see the Queen before holding up an pre-war postcard from the UK...he got booted out of the place short after

also hes a pacifist. like he doesnt want to kill benny or hurt anyone on his way to vegas he just wants some Answers and wants to know why or what happened (he really doesnt care for the whole ncr/legion/house thing and he never sides with anyone)

^ speaking of vegas he does NOT like it. freeside too. he stays far the hell away from it all and sticks to the desert and exploring

joey loves collecting all sorts of cowboy hats and loves revolvers.he doesnt use them like Ever but he likes having them by his side, he feels safer with a weapon (cough courier instinct cough)

hes a bit of a nomad. he doesn’t have a specific place to stay in, but he doesnt just sleep outside. he wanders from motel to motel and can usually afford it. he has a couple places he frequents (like Novac) and the people he meets like him so they let him just crash w/o payment whenever he likes

Max Verstappen: I feel like he would wear a black suit but there would be something slightly less boring on it like embroidery on the shoulders or something(still a black suit tho)

Charles leclerc: he wouldn't be even remotely close to the theme but I feel like he'd wear like a red velvet suit or something along those lines

George russell: yes but I feel like he would not wear a shirt underneath (for obvious reasons), kinda like timothee chalamet at the Oscars

Mick Schumacher: realistically, yes but I would like to think he would try something at least a bit different

I'll be honest, I think this one, ineffable husbands observatory date was kinda cowardly haha. In it I pretend like Aziraphale wasn't fully about to shoot a kid. I think I should have let that be a true moment of darkness! These days I wouldn't shy away from it I think.

uargh. 'I don't need to be taken care of' 'but I WANT to take care of you'. Kills me dead every time.

🤡 What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh?

haha almost every fic I write has something that made me laugh!! An undervalued one, from my Jo/Bela heist fic:

She doesn’t get like this. She doesn’t get distracted on the job, she doesn’t get flustered over sly little compliments, she doesn’t want to be seen. Why did it have to be here, now, on her biggest job in years? “You know,” Jo says, unperturbed by the mental anguish she was causing, biting off the end of the thread with her teeth, “since we’re partners, we should get matching balaclavas.” And why was it for someone so stupid? “All balaclavas are matching,” Bela says, and Jo smiles up at her cheekily, proving she only said it to wind her up, “and we’re not partners.” “We’re totally partners! We look out for each other.” “No. You’re not on my level. It’d be like saying Michelangelo and his finger painting niece were partners.” “Fine,” Jo huffs, “accomplices?” “You are an accessory at best.” “Yeah? Do I rate above or below your shoes?” Bela pretends to think about it. “So far my shoes have done more quality work for this shindig than you, so I suppose the jury is still out.”

"It is certainly within the AD range," Cas says, deadpan, and he doesn't laugh when Dean does but his frown does lighten. He looks expectant, so Dean caves: "It's 2005. The year of the rooster. Or, as I like to say, the year of -" "Cock. Yes. I've heard it before."

😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?

hmmmmm! There is one in one that I'm writing right now in fact! This is Endverse Cas, talking to Dean about Endverse Dean:

"Did you know," Cas says, leaning right into Dean's space, the smell of weed and dank sweat rolling off him, "He trusts me. He needs me. He - what did he say? Oh, yeah. He couldn't do this without me."

A cruel play on the Crypt scene - "I need you". Maybe people won't pick up on it but I have the intention of being mean.

🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.

Themes....you ask me of themes...would you ask mozart of staves...jdsavbhfav I'm kidding about. I love themes my book club and anyone I've beta'd for will tell you!! In my own work, I like animal imageryyyyy. Dean is a dog (and sometimes rabbits), Bela is a rabbit, Jo is a horse, Cas is birds. I like scenes characters talking around things but both understanding what they mean. OR, the inverse, when one of them THINKS they're being perfectly clear and straightforward and the other one is coming to very different conclusions. And grief. And absence highlighted by an intense focus on objects. I think that last one is most clearly done in The Aftermath, Time/Body Problem and Brought to the Flame. I OBVIOUSLY love make-out scenes lol. Scenery used as character! It is the only way I am able to write scenery!!

I am...good at weaving scenes together. Dialogue and exposition and jokes and deeper character moments. Pacing, I think, would be the word. I heard some advice from the guy who wrote Not Going Out: if you end a scene high, the next "should" (usually) start or become low, and vice versa. We did it! We fucked it up. Things are looking fucking bleak. There's a moment of hope!! Peaks and valleys yknow. See here I am deflecting my compliment to someone else's advice ajkfsjbv. I write good original characters who don't distract from the narrative, how about that!! And titles! You didn't ask but my favourite titleset I've ever done is my [aged up]Bela/Edward kinky series Frames of Mind. The first is called Metacognition because Edward is thinking about Bela thinking about him (and metacognition means thinking about thought) and the second is Projection because Edward is mentally prjecting himself into the threesome Bela is in. And Bela's putting him in there too, in her mind. Also, I do a lot of stupid jokes in these, I was seriously debating a third in that catagory. I suggest that Edward turned one of his pet mice into a vampire, and that Bela's being lusted after by a swamp monster. <3

💌 How do you feel about comments and feedback?

I LOVE THEM. I LOVE I AM IN LOVE. To any person who has ever commented on anything I've ever written (apart from that one bot lol) I kiss you I kiss you I kiss you a thousand times. Knowing that people took the time to read my works and say what they thought, even if they thought "<3" or "nice"...it's so kind. Also every beta reader I've ever had, I keep their joyful comments active so I can reread them over and over <3 shout out to @sonorousangels @eboyeasy @homoangel @sweater-soup and @mrcowboydeanwinchester <3

❌ What's a trope you will never write?

Never, huh....? Hm. I like a lot of things, I think there's a way to make pretty much any trope interesting if you think about it long enough. I think it's unlikely that I'd ever write something with a matchmaker!character, like, get a life? lol. It's often foisted on Sam or ANY nearby female character. BUT I do think you could make that interesting potentially, if that character was the protagonist. Like, why ARE you so obsessed with them, why DON'T you have anything going on in your own life, how can you break out of that and come to see your friends as people again instead of dollies?

btw, complete tangent, one time at [redacted] I met an old lady and told her my name and she said. "You have the same name as my dolly." Not even, the doll has the same name as ME. I have the same name as HER DOLL. Horror movie type interaction.

Perhaps I should have preread these questions and mentioned my smoking sequel here lmao. OH WELL. I will talk about another!

I am working on a Cas timetravel fic wherein (late-)s4 Castiel (who is considering rebellion) gets pulled to...s15? ish? And Dean is NOT coping well with having a younger Castiel who doesn't have anything to resent Dean for yet, and Cas is trying to reconcile his jealousy and his resurfaced guilt (this Castiel hasn't done any of the things Cas despises himself for yet, and he's lonely and untethered, but he's also not as much of a Person and Cas can only take so much Angel Mode Bluntness and he misses Jack while Castiel it there). Also. Well the Castiels do make out but I mean. It's my fic. It was sort of inevitable.

🧠 Pick a character, and I'll tell you my favorite headcanon for them. Castiel.

Cas is the tv angel!!!!!! He doesn't read very much, he watches tellyvision! He watches old sit coms at any available moment, and he does NOT get the MAJORITY of the jokes but he adores the laugh track and I love him. And, king of sick burns that he is, he'd pick up some good ones. I think if he was explaining it, perhaps to Dean, he'd say something like that he likes that "Humans have, with every theme and concept available to them, so often chosen to imagine a softer world, where the consequences are limited to a punchline, and there is a constant unity and connection with others. When you laugh at Niles Crane, you laugh with every other being in that room at that time. A snapshot of the past, with its defined limits, to a timeless creature such as myself, it has a remarkable beauty. Also, I enjoy the antics of the little dog."

I REALLY should have read ahead haha. This is frommmmm I can't really say what it's about without spoilers. Um. It is a plot fic wherein Cas returns post-empty and Dean is a little TOO happy about it. This is from the opening:

Cas wakes up in a car wreck. He pushes himself up from the smoking bonnet gingerly, and hears the crumple of metal below. He'd made an impact; a whole stack of rusted vehicals have been crushed beneath him, threatening the integrity of the surrounding towers of scrap. He doesn't remember the fall. The last thing he remembers is - Dean, the confession, the debt being paid. There's a pervasive ache in his muscles and his heart is beating at a sickening pace, as if he'd been running for a long time. It's possible that he had been. [...] "Dean?" Cas asks, and gets an answer he didn't expect. There's a tired sigh on the other end of the line, and Sam's voice says: "Who is this helping?" "Sam, it's me. I'm at Bobby's. I need someone to pick me up." A faint, plastic-y creak. Cas imagines Sam pressing his flip phone against his forehead. His voice is distant, mournful, "Can't you guys leave any bodies in the ground?" "Sam?" "It's not going to work. I wish you'd all stop trying." Closer, now, louder, "Just leave him alone, you hear me? You better leave him the hell alone!" The line goes dead. Cas tries calling again, but even with his Grace it doesn't go through...

✅ What's something that appears in your fics over and over and over again, even if you don't mean to?

Haha, Meg. Okay, serious answer...............whenever I do sex it always turns romantic and sweet at some point. Even the "rough sex" in my jo/bela heist, it IS rough sex and then ALSO Jo says "You're really special and I like you". In my kinky vampire rimming fic! When they just reference having other sex offscreen in my struck by lighting blowjob fic! The closest I get to not going crazy romantic is in the pseudo-sex scenes of my grace feeding fic but even then it's echoed in a sweetie darling honeypie way later.

I think I may deep down be a romantic at heart.

hi i’m sylvie your favorite admin in the world and i’ve been hyperfixated on batb (1991) since I was 14 so here’s my definitive (mostly spoiler free) review of every book based in the universe of batb (1991)

1. As Old As Time (alternate universe)

Like a 6.7/10. The characters were well written and I liked the imagery. Felt very reminiscent of the musical adaptation which I liked. A lot of characters to keep track of though and I don’t love the uh. “subtext”. somebody else in the fandom mentioned their issues with it and i don’t remember who it was but yeah that. I liked it but the flaws unfortunately bring it down a few notches. still a decently interesting read. mrs potts was such a fascinating character in this I really loved how braswell wrote her. sadly no name for the beast this time but that gets addressed at one point so??

PROS

It’s a neat concept

The writing is really good

Pretty and spooky imagery

The characters are well written especially Mrs Potts (beatrice my beloved)

had some genuinely dark moments that fit surprisingly well

CONS

weird subtext iykyk

too many characters. so many names

some scenes happen really fast and move on with no explanation or callback to it

2. Belle Takes Flight (sequel)

2.1/10. Its meant for a younger audience but theres really good books for younger audiences and this aint one. I liked that it kinda centered around belle’s friendship with lumi and cogs bc its a fun dynamic but the boys come off as incredibly useless and bumbling the entire time especially when theres high stakes? like are they idiots? yes (lovingly) but oh my god it was rough like you could take them out of the plot and it would still make sense. on that note i subtracted 50% of the rating right off the bat bc this book fatshamed cogs every chance it could. the dialect felt very on par with the movie which was nice but the messy plot, inconsistencies, unlikable new characters, and like the constant reminder that cogs is plus sized really almost made me dnf. also the prince still has no name. read anything else on this list unless youre that content starved like i am actively begging

PROS

the way they talked was very on par with the movie? at least the main trio. they said mrs potts was irish?? h u h?

belle and her dads-in-law(s?) goin on an adventure is such a fun concept and again i like getting to explore their dynamic when not in a “please fall in love with our son-figure boss so we can have hands again” type situation

i liked elise. i thought she was cute.

CONS

bad decisions made by the characters and by the author simultaneously

the new characters were poorly written and had the capability of being really interesting (i was hoping granny was like a mechanical engineer or something before she got introduced. like cogs breaks his leg and elise is like “oh granny t will fix him” and my immediate thought bc of the phrase “fix” was like. steampunky prothetic leg omg so cool and she’s gonna help belle fix the hot air balloon but nah)

belle is the only one out of the three who contributes anything to the story which like yeah ofc but you could switch which servants were there and nothing would change

in case you forgot how cogsworth looks as a human, worry not! because this book will remind you. at every opportunity. like two times in one paragraph on page 4 type opportunity. I physically winced. if all your development for this character boils down to “he’s fat and he’s short and did I mention he’s fat” like. you lost me so fast babe.

3. Rebel Rose (sequel)

8.5/10. If Rebel Rose has 100 fans, i’m one. If Rebel Rose has 10 fans, i’m one. if Rebel Rose has 1 fan, it’s me. If Rebel Rose has 0 fans, it’s bc i died. clearly meant for an older audience but still kept the charm of the film. loved the dynamics between the characters and making the servants feel more realistic while still keeping their personalities and quirks of their animated counterparts. also gave the beast a name thats NOT adam so bonus points. lgbtq rep thats done well too so ANOTHER bonus point. pls emma give me a sequel i’m on my hands and knees

I dont give any books about monarchy and government type stuff a 10/10 because there’s always some issues with that. a book set during the French Revolution will have its faults regarding that but its not the focus of the book

4. The Beast Within (prequel/alternate universe)

4.5/10. this one is. weird? like I genuinely dont know how to explain it? the writing is nice, i like how creepy the witches looked physically, and it’s a better ya batb book than BTF but those the only good thing I can think to say about it? all the characters were flat and the PACING IS SO BIZARRE? like I genuinely thought there was a point where my archive.org borrow time ran out and the pdf stopped working but nope the pacing is just so genuinely bizarre. I don’t love the involvement with Gaston, it felt super forced. apparently this book is part of an expanded universe bc ursula from the little mermaid was mentioned??? i have so many questions that I won’t get answers to. i want to dislike it but i’m just so confused. like i might just make a separate post of how much this one confused me but I cant give it a lower rating than BTF because that one just made me mad. i think the fact that i had the coraline soundtrack on in the background might’ve convinced me it was better than it was bc it was good atmosphere music. read coraline instead of this idk it’s almost 4 am.

I’m really hoping most of my confusion was bc this was out of order in a series and I didn’t know it bc why was ursula there?

the prince (who still has no name) goes from being a massive jerk to talking about how much of a family he views the servants as and i think this was supposed to show how him slowly turning into a beast was messing with his head but it didn’t come off that way (the closest things you had to a mom and dad go missing and you dont go looking for them??? like you just tell everyone else to? when you were JUST talking about how much you care about them? “where’s my not-dad go find him” AND YOU DONT SEE THAT MAN FOR MONTHS???

i dont like gaston’s inclusion. i feel like his childhood bff being another snobby rich nobility boy wouldve been better.

it starts too late for a prequel. we never get explanations for where his parents are, why he’s the way he is, etc. like the story starts just a few weeks before the night he got cursed.

a lot of things happen and dont get explained or things happen offpage and is only spoken about in reference. (gaston murders a court painter bc beasty boy told him to? beast’s fiance’s mom kills herself? ursula fucking kidnaps his fiance? the entire part where he meets belle?)

NOW THIS IS AN INTERESTING AND ORIGINAL IDEA normally people make akira's palaces a theater or a jail so i am chewing on this comic book concept not fully on board though because... i don't think akira ever considered himself a hero? he reassures the thieves that they're the good guys and according to his own justice he's doing right but... "Thou who art willing to perform all sacrilegious acts for thine own justice!" and Arsene's entire spiel in general... i think his view on things is less "I"m the good guy and I'm doing good things" and more "We aren't saints but we're doing what has to be done." so ig you could spin that concept to be more like gotham like you said with a vigilante aspect. ooh ooh or, perhaps he doesn't see them as heroes, but idolizes the thieves in some form and that's why they're heroes, because he is a lowly vigilante and they're the actual bright spirits. i'm still kinda iffy on that one though, because i feel like he treats and sees them all as mostly equals. but then also. this is a palace-- cognition gets warped and maybe akira goes a little fucky in the head yk? [shrugs] i do think that if his palace formed post shido that akechi's death would for sure be a part of it though...like that's such an impactful moment for him and i guarantee "If only we met a few years earlier" haunts him in some form

Do they have any motifs?

Luther has 2 kinda. One was a little intentional the other just kinda came as a bonus. His main one is like, angelic imagery. That’s mostly from one of the first scenes of the story I came up with, where Ezekial is first brought to see Luther, who’s standing above him with light shining from behind him, and that with his hair kind of creates a halo kind of look and Ezekial remarks to himself that he looks like an angel. And yk, that whole like, white/light blue being angelic/pure idea with his color palette also kinda reflects that, which is both reflective and subversive to his character. Reflective in that it shows how he likes to be extremely clean and put together, but subverts how he’s involved with very dark things. His other motif only just occurred to me, that being space/moons. His planet and moon earrings weren’t really meant to be anything more than a cool design choice, but I realized that a lot of scenes I’ve pictured where he’s more vulnerable and open are at night and/or under the moonlight, so that motif has become a bit important to his character. You could also definitely draw some sun and moon imagery with him and Ezekial from that.

Ezekial doesn’t really have concrete motifs in the same way Luther does. There’s a couple reoccurring ideas that surround him, like scarring, loneliness, and loyalty, but I haven’t really given him strong specific motifs. I guess the main one that you could argue for that I’ve been thinking about lately is kind of like, wearing over time. That applies to the story and their dynamic at large, but specifically with Ezekial, there’s a lot of focus with him having to accept that things are not the same as they once were, as well as visually, his design changes and wears with time, both with him getting more and more scars and with his clothes gradually becoming more scuffed and dirty with the more experience he has. This also juxtaposes Luther, whose design is very clean and sharp and put together.

Describe their voice. Do they have a voice claim?

I always struggle finding voice claims for my characters bc I have such a specific vision in my head that nothing feels completely right for them, but I’ll try to get as close as I can.

For Ezekial, my first thought was Aoba from the beastars dub (I think. I was specifically thinking of the “hey, legoshi already knows her name!” line and I’m pretty sure that’s aoba but idk). Looking up a couple voices, I think also a bit of Ash from fantastic mr fox, though very slightly lower for both of those. Also also a smiiiidge of mk from lmk. Just a bit. The idea for him is to have a voice that’s very smooth and nice, pretty average tbh, and usually very bright but occasionally able to slip into a darker tone. Idk though, I feel like he’s really hard to place and I don’t even know if I really like any of these all that much for him, but it’s the best I got 😭

Luther’s voice I imagine closer to the lower end but also not particularly deep, very soft and level, kind of that back of the throat kind of sound. It’s really dumb but specifically I thought of that one clip that’s like “SHUT UP. SHUT UP. IM GONNA KILL THE NEXT PERSON I SEE I SWEAR TO GOD” but JUST for him yelling. The line I was imagining him saying in that tone was “Don’t you get it!?” and it works oddly well. Otherwise, it’s kinda like a mix between lilac cookie’s eng voice and sal fisher. Another one I found specifically looking at voice claim compilations that’s random as fuck is Wesley Gibson from wanted??? no idea who that is or what that’s about but I think his voice fits really really well for Luther.

Are they a dog or a cat person?

Ezekial likes both and he wouldn’t be able to choose, though probably leans a little more to dogs.

Luther you’d think would be more of a cat person, given his everything, but he actually prefers dogs because they’re easier to train and more obedient. He doesn’t dislike cats though.

Have they ever fallen in love and with whom?

I mean, there is a LOT of longing between these two, especially on Ezekial’s end. He’s been in love Luther since they were really young but I think he didn’t really realize that for a long time. At some point it kinda registered for him but even then I don’t think he ever really said it out loud to himself. It was never really some big revelation or anything, just kind of putting a word to a feeling that’s always been there.

And I’m not gonna lie and say the feeling isn’t reciprocated, but that’s something Luther hasn’t thought about in years and still hasn’t yet to really understand himself. The mix of emotional suppression and catholic guilt made a cocktail of self denial and inability to really accept that thought when he was younger, and in the present it’s far worse and far more repressed, and he has a long way to go before anything begins to change with that.

It’s actually interesting because this is also a scene I thought of pretty recently. After their reunion, once the tension has settled past the initial Luther-being-willing-to-kick-Ezekial-across-the-floor-without-a-second-glance phase, one of the conversations they end up having is Ezekial asking Luther if he’s dated anyone since he last saw him, to which Luther respond “I don’t think you could really call it that.” He asks the same question back at Ezekial and Ezekial responds “Yeah, I don’t think those really count either.” And that surprises Luther and he give a little “Huh.” And Ezekial asks what that’s about but Luther just says it’s none of his concern (really he’s surprised because Ezekial’s always kinda been a romantic, and he’s dated a couple people before when they were younger. “And I mean, Ezekial’s an attractive guy, and he would probably be a good partner, how has he not had any good relationships since high school?” (<- clueless))

its 6:30 am and i have the spn au on the brain. i feel like my akira au has more substance to it but i tried writing that and man it was like pulling teeth yk? i really like the concept but that just wasn't going to happen lmao. do love the imagery of buddy with tetsuo powers and everyone riding those sick ass bikes tho!!! anyway spn au rambles below

i rly rly rly want to keep Buddy And Dustin's Grand Adventures located around olathe bc i want their not-so-secret main motivation to be to figure out why brad mutated, so yeah there's been instances of mutants all across the country but their dad never left his hometown and that was ground zero and that might mean something. they're driving around with his notebook trying to find the people who knew him when he was trying to get buddy back but there's so few real names that it's hard to find, and sometimes they find them but it's their bodies or their families who hadn't seen them in a week and fear the worst. they find terry and he's like "oh wow you're actually brad's kid! yeah the last time i saw your dad he ditched us on the side of a road? what happened" and they have to explain everything to him and he's like YIKES OKAY. they try to confront people right before they mutate to figure out what's going on, but they just can't find the connection, because joy isn't just joy, it's been laced into other drugs that people have been buying il/legally for years. the cops and the FBI can't figure it out either, and there were too many hunters who mutated for hunters to stay out of it.

they don't even realize the truth until it's staring them in the face, until dustin catches buddy taking a drug he's never seen before and she says it's a painkiller, it makes her a better hunter because she has to be a hunter now, but he knows something's wrong, and it's so wrong. it's almost too late when they find out that this is the drug that's been causing it the whole time. they know there's a ticking clock on buddy's life when they travel to find the source and shut it all down. bernie shows up to say some cryptic shit every now and then because he's in the exact same boat as her but he's terrified at how quickly it's progressing with her, at how it only took her a few months when it had taken him years. he was supposed to get her hooked on it but now he regrets ever taking that job even though it was the only reason he didn't go to prison.

basically i'm thinking joy kinda serves the same purpose as sam and his addiction to demon blood in s4, but when dustin finds out he's just like :( but you're like 18, baby sister, as opposed to dean who gets mad at like 80% of what sam does. but joy is also kiiiiiiiind of like the croatoan virus maybe? i also kinda like the idea that because joy canonically "makes you feel nothing" it could even make ppl act like how soulless!sam acts. it doesn't have a direct spn counterpart. maybe other hunters have started to guess at it and are trying to infiltrate drug operations and drug manufacturers to figure out where exactly normal drugs are being laced with joy? idk i have a LOT of work to do on this before it can really be a thing. it just came to me one night after watching spn, this was the exact thing i made at like 3 am on a google doc one night lmao

Okay so before I fucking faint of exaustion as a side effect of being stupid and sleeping only 4 hours, I want to talk about how surprised I was in the process of trying to archive my old phone's notes.

So, to put it simply, I used the notes app as the to-go writing app since 2018. Yes, I still used it as a, you know, notes app (and would doodle on it sometimes, but I didn't archive those), but it was mostly made out of random, unfinished texts.

Thing is, I never fucking finished these texts because I thought they were stupid, and that my writing abilities were embarrassing and probably resembled something out of wattpad. Hmmm... thing is (part 2) that... some of it was actually pretty fucking cool. I mean, yeah, I was always shit at writing romance, and some of the texts were cringe edgy stuff a 12 year old would make, and the notes were full of poems and songs in broken english (I got better at writing english from 2019 to 2021), besides some porn I found locked (which I archived for shits and giggles aka make fun of younger me in some years), but there was some very good shit too.

I mean, it was no masterpiece, it was very flawed, many times I lost track of the story, it had kinda of a more aesthetic-based thing than a thematic-based thing (in other words, I'd write the best emotions and imagery I could convey, and would abandon the work if the images started getting "not right") but... that's actually very important to me. I actually learned how to write extreme emotions from this overly-edgy time period of my writing style, where I'd keep the text as simple as possible, but would try to convey as much image and feeling as possible too. I am now thinking about one of my recent works (a piece of fanfiction which you can find here), although it not being... fantastic, it has great influence of that time period, with the changes that I actually learned a lot more and managed to convey even more grotesque feelings by mixing words together (shoutout to my friend for helping me with things like texture and sound and taste, I think he made the story even more grotesque by suggesting this to me). I think that, although I was very ambitious, that was a very experimental phase for my writing, and that I am still on the experimental phase, but with different things. You get the idea? I have some stories here from 2019 that were just lines of dialogue that were just practice for writing things such as despair, comfort, melancholy, imagery.... it's all very sweet to think about, how much I wrote and how something I was embarrassed of was actually of surprising quality (not great but decent yk).

Perhaps one day I'll try to rewrite those bits of text, to see if I made progress with the years. Visual arts are more easy to compare old from new but I think I can do that with text too.

I honestly didn't expect they have kissed in the past. idk, guess I kinda imagined their first kiss is gonna happen in the present coz of how much Takasugi seemed to be on guard around her then-- as if he had set a line for himself that he shouldn't cross bc of his plans and how they would affect the Tsugaru sole heir? but it makes sense he let his guard down on one vulnerable drunken night,,, hajhjfhsjgjsahhhh look at me read this with a stupid grin on my face lol… the entire scene is so beautiful and serene (one rare moment of calm before the storm before shit hits the fan smh)

also why is this line so sad: "just tonight allow me to sheathe my sword" (and how do you come up with such meaningful lines????)

the drinking part with the boys was so funny! I can totally see that scene happening--nah it's just completely canon hehehe,, the fact that shoyo never met sakomoto makes me sad too :c he'd have been amused by sakomoto 100% lmao,,, and the part where Takasugi hallucinates about shoyo TT_TT </3 </3

for the present: nah, I didn't feel the way reader "changes" her mind comes off as abrupt or anything. for one, she is still in love with Takasugi and the feelings were mutual in the past (yk, the kiss cough cough) even if she was bitter before, thinking he had merely been toying with her feelings to achieve his own goals-- but to almost die saving the life of a "pawn"???? that is either utter stupidity or a sign of his true feelings hehehehe (ntm why you two bickering like kids in the cell?)

ahhh the poetic rain imagery for tears is back!! (although here it's from reader's pov but I have to say-> in canon this boy is just so poetic with his inner thoughts~ the rain monologue from the rakoyou arc is my favorite and also his last words to gintoki were also so tragically poetic ;-; had he not been a terrorist, he should have become a writer/poet imo lmao)

and you ended the chapter with a cliffhanger grrr jkjk ;~; wondering if there is a twist somewhere, like in nobume's case? it can't be, right? it is Takasugi who killed the Tsugaru clan, right? I mean, he had been the one making plans to get rid of this clan but did he change his mind at the last moment and someone else intercepted him to the deed and he managed to save only Harumi before reader's arrival? lol idk what to think….

on the whole, another excellent chapter, author-san! this has to be my favorite fics among all you have written so far *_* thank you once again for bringing this story into existence orz ^^

about the past, well you aren't wrong! Shinsuke was the more upright/uptight one for sure between the two of them, considering how 1)he knew what would happen and 2)he is still heavily depressed about the shouyou thing :( and that's why he has a hard time resisting and keeping his guard up. she is so carefree and forward about the way she feels, that he gets carried away. PLUS let's not forget, he is still a teenager at that time, it's heartbreaking if u consider how he never got to live as one :((( and she can afford to do that, but lacks the freedom to live freely, so while on polar situations, they do understand one another!

i won't go into much detail regarding how their relationship "ended" back then, since i'll explain that in future chapters :p so stay tuned ^^

about the present: I feel like this is where the whole tsundere Takasugi trope shines best LMAO. he's always been the kind of person to "reject" his emotions and act as if they don't matter, while acting solely on emotion (aka him acting as if gin and the others arent his comrades while constantly being up their asses, him starting an entire rebellion bcs of shouyou, claiming that people are his pawns despite saving sooooo many of them) and you know, this is one of his charms that goes unnoticed!

It's easy to assume that someone doesn't care enough or that are pure evil based on things they say, while neglecting their actions. In this case, she doesn't really know what to believe. Part of her blames herself bcs she thinks that she fell for his lies, but he never lied to her. Even if he acted coldly towards her in the past, he saved her and taught her things that shouyou taught him. He took care of her in his own way and even now, he didn't have it in him to harm her.

So yeah, in her mind he definitely is responsible for killing her father, and because of that she tried to see the "evil" in all of his actions, ignoring the possibility of them being real and that's exactly why he kissed her. Because he doesn't have an easy time communicating his emotions and he can only hope she sees the truth in his actions. It's hard on him to keep pushing her away and keep acting as if he is the bad guy all the time, despite being accountable for his actions .-. THEY ARE BOTH VICTIMS OKAY LMAO

Back to what you said, SHINSUKE WOULD DEFINITELY BE ONE OF THOSE SECRETLY ARTSY THEATER KIDS IN SCHOOL LMAO I mean he is very poetic like you said! I love that about him, and in general, I'm a huge fan of metaphors myself. Seeing one thing and connecting it to something else, it's just beautiful imo. As to how I come with meaningful lines, WELL they just happen :p I literally have a notebook on me 24/7 so I can always note things down as I think of them :p They always come in handy in future ffs or chapters.

And to end this loooooong ass response, about him being the actual killer or not, you'll have to wait and see :p next chapter will once again be Takasugi POV heavy since I'll finally reveal what the hell went down in the past. Just know that the scene in the first chapter where she had her nightmare, is not 100% correct. I mean, it was just a dream, things didn't necessarily happen like that :p

the lyrical imagery in this song is so fresh and amazing, especially the first verse. i don’t know how you interpret the tone, but it’s very different from tu falta de querer, where it was very angry and filled with longing (if not for the boyfriend, then for an explanation). even though she is undoubtedly repulsed by her father’s actions, the way she sang it and the way the lyrics are worded doesn’t really sound like she wants her father in her life anymore. it was a goodbye, and it’s so heart wrenching bc her dad had years to “grow daisies, and not wither them” but he had chosen his own selfishness over his daughter. forcing her father to face his own actions like that in front of his face… something about that is so powerful to me. he can’t run away anymore.

i’m very unfamiliar when it comes to this musical style (south american? chilean?), so i think it’s a good thing that i’m dipping my toes in these waters. my mind subconsciously categorized what “sad music” is supposed to sound like: slow, mournful music, the depressed voice of a western artist, but this, with all its guitar and maracas and things i would expect to be presented in a cheerful tone, is sooo different from what i’m used to. without the context, i’d kinda expect somebody dancing to this, ykwim? as someone from the us, hearing mon laferte sing about such a depressing situation using a style like this… my musical mind was so much more limited than i realized.

HELLO I have been summoned the moment I read 'morally grey' characters!!! First of all, what exactly is a morally grey character?? From my experiences it's a character that understands and exhibits the darker sides of human emotions, i.e. jealousy, hate, and will act on those emotions. Not quite a killer straight up but definitely not a Disney hero either. (So pretty much a normal person tbhfjfh)

Now picture, a person who wants to do good, to be good like everyone, but keeps getting pushed further and further into the depths of despair instead. Maybe they have problems with school or family, maybe they just can't vibe with life. Enter, our yandere. Who seems to worship them, who seems like they will solve all of their problems for them!!

It's not quite right, no, to use them. But they just need some help, any help- and if the devil knocks, well, your straw door certainly won't keep them out 😈

So basically a darling that seems good, even if they are struggling- slowly become manipulative and just as addicted to their yandere as they are with them. Or, even if they do develop stockholm syndrome, they also have power over their captors, and they know how to use it. I rarely, if ever! Ever!! See this very specific trope in yan writings (which is understandable because most yandere writing is supposed to make you afraidfjfj) so whenever I do see one I just go 🥺🥺🥰🥰🥰💕💕💜🥰💞🥰😊

morally grey persons are, for me, yeah. the not straight up bad guys but also not heros. kinda like anti-heros, if yk what i mean. they do exhibit darker sides of human emotion, but whether they act on it or not depends on the situation.

i like to visualize them as cold and calculating, always on the edge of doing something really bad but just STOPPING themselves because it's impulsive and it's not going to help them in the long run, now is it?

i also enjoy visualizing their actions as a topic of controversy. not in the bad way that it stirs everyone up, but in the way that it gets you to think : have i really been living my life right? morally grey characters are never bad nor good, hence grey. they tap dance across the line of good and evil.

I LOVE the imagery of someone just delving into insanity (altho if it's happening in real life, we're getting therapy dear, sending hugs) and GOD, just thinking they're a meek lil lamb from the yandere's pov then you just have them and then suddenly you're crying and you're scared of them.

disillusionment as my first post is probably fitting, because somehow, disillusionment in these kinds of tropes is one of my favorite things to include.

Director's cut ask game: ⭐ for Push and Pull?

(decided to just say “fuck it” and do all of ch 1)

k so throughout the fic i wanted have this hazy vibe to it. like that fog over your mind whenever ur dreaming or youve just woken up, yk? also, that feeling of not rly knowing whats going on in a dream but also just going with whatevers happening.

looking back now i probably shouldve added a bit more indication whenever i was describing a flash rather than the dream, but i think it works how it is? either way its kinda late to change it so whatever

With a shaking hand, they reached out for Anne’s, but they hesitated. It only took a moment before he pulled back.

not much with this line, i just like it. hints to some lingering guilt and self loathing w marcy thinking he doesnt deserve annes help, even w something so small as picking him up.

then theres the bit with marcy second guessing themself and the description of dread, and honestly its just a bunch of self projection.

They had no clue where it all came from. It was as if they spoke the words right as they popped into their head.

something something this being a dreamworld thing so they dont really have a mental filter so he just speaks his mind

“Sort of. Only, I knew where the feeling was coming from, what caused it. Like, when Hop Pop betrayed me.”

ok, it probably wouldve made more sense to bring up sasha instead of hop pop, but i didnt want to detract from anne and marcys relationship by bringing up sasha. plus, hp and mars kind of work better as a comparison, since both of them tried to keep anne in amphibia because of what they thought was best, and in a sense put their own feelings before hers. of course hop pops intentions were a bit less selfish, but the comparison is still there.

The wind started to pick up, and the crashing of the waves grew louder. He flinched at the specs of sea water flying into their face.

The wind whipped at Anne’s hair and clothes as she glared down at him. The sky had grown darker with clouds, blocking out the sun.

Thunder boomed somewhere in the distance.

they were practically yelling over the waves and the wind.

just something im kinda proud of thinking of, ngl. i tried to parallel annes anger with the weather around them slowly worsening and a storm picking up. plus its kind of a build up to the huge wave at the end. it can also be taken as the sort of “paradise” beach thing falling apart, no longer shielding marcy from the terrible things that happened. not much else, just a minor detail im a bit proud of

A giant shadow fell over him.

this line was kinda subtle, but just thought id mention that this was supposed to be a reference to andrias towering over marcy in the episode. kinda unrelated, but i liked the imagery with those scenes with andrias looming over marcy as they tried so hard to justify their actions.

honestly i kinda struggled a bit trying to find the right words to end off anne’s whole outburst. i was kind of on a roll with everything she was tearing at marcy with, and i wasnt sure how to stop it. i did know that i wanted to bring back the stab, and i wanted the giant wave to come in, i just couldnt find a way to lead up to all of it exactly. hopefully it worked out in the end

and then the drowning and void sequence. idk i was just rly fond the idea of juxtaposing being drowned out by the roars of those you wronged and being lost in a silent void with nothing to hear but your own heart beating. i remember a youtube video i watched a couple years back where this guy tried to see how long he could last in a soundproof room, and he mentioned going kinda crazy in the silence. and then theres the ending, where i was kinda alluding to a sort of nightmare loop that marcy was going through.

i purposefully kept it vague on whether the nightmares were being fabricated by the night in order to manipulate marcy, or if they were the result of marcys own mind tormenting himself over everything that happened. im pretty sure this was before nightmar was confirmed in the trailer, so i wanted to keep it vague so that it would still hold up in canon if marcy didnt end up being possessed.

and uh yeah thats abt it.
