COMPLETELY agree. i know every wasteland song front and back. the entire thing is saved to my playlist.
the vibe is super unique and distinct. it’s a huge tonal shift from his self titled, more polished and upbeat. i like how you described it: between nihilism and optimism. i would definitely say it’s a hugely optimistic album (minus why would you be loved) and it’s so refreshing to hear how every song is, in one way or another, about living in spite of all the shit in the world. super relevant to our times and especially relevant during trump era + pandemic.
it’s soooooo engaging musically as well. there are the really big choral songs, like nina cried power and sunlight. there are more rock-inspired songs with the SICKEST guitar ever, like be and dinner & diatribes. there’s soft finger style guitar in shrike and the title track because it’s hozier, of course there’s soft finger style guitar. every track has something new to offer and it’s quite literally impossible to get bored.
yeah i actually had no idea i loved wasteland so much! 10/10, it’s so dear to my heart.
i was thinking about this post and how crazy it was that they gave wasteland 4.8, so out of curiosity, what would you rate it out of 10?
Wasteland, Baby! is my favourite album by far and I think every single song slaps. It deserves for Nina Cried Power alone 10/10.
The theme throughout the album isn't as obvious as in Unreal Unearth but I prefer the subtle theme of "somewhere between optimism and nihilsm" and how it's in conversation with the selftitled album. Also the live shows were so much fun?? There's just something for every mood and no other album has managed to give me goosebumps 5 years into listening to it regularily.
Am I biased? Yes, definitely. But am I right? Absolutely.

children existing in public spaces is genuinely like. necessary for the continuation of society. it doesnt have to be your kids you dont have to volunteer at a daycare or whatever but you need to be able to tolerate the presence of someone who is learning how to exist as a human and interact with people

saw a grown woman on tiktok snidely calling gen z the christopher columbus generation bc someone’s fifteen year old son ‘thought he’d discovered weezer’. newsflash every generation finds out about the music of the previous generation at some point it comes free with being fifteen. being annoying about music also comes free with being fifteen. a kid saying yeah i’ve just found this band nirvana have you ever heard of them should be a thing of joy

here are excerpts of a hozier worksheet i made for my friend today!
Gotta hand it to Henry Chen and Ssong Yang. The music video perfectly captured how From Eden feels.
It lulls you into this sense of safety even while facing imminent danger.
