while I've been opening up more, allowing myself to be vulnerable and rejecting shame, I still find it extremely difficult, if not impossible, as a chubby trans man, to imagine someone loving me. The lack of media and artistic representation of trans men being loved is not insignificant to this. I cannot name a single book, movie, tv show, song, or other form of media (except visual art such as paintings) that explicitly depicts a trans man experiencing love. If there is clearly a lack of romantic sentiment towards trans men, why should I think I would be privy to such experiences? Why would I look at myself, someone who I am trying so hard not to hate, and think another person could look at me and see someone worth their heart?

The shirt I'm wearing belongs to a dead girl

And I don't know what to make of it.

It is soft, and 3 sizes too big, and I hold it to my face absentmindedly as though some part of me hopes I might still smell her on it (despite the fact that I've already washed it, and it had sat in a box for a year before the fact.)

I remember picking through her things, feeling like a vulture. Scavenging for anything I could justify taking from the tomb of her bedroom, anything I might use, while her father sat on the bed with tears in his eyes. I hate the fact the first time I saw her room was long after she would never set foot in it again.

The shirt has an Edgar Allen Poe quote on it and I wonder how it ended up in her closet. Did she like his poetry? Or was it just this specific quote that resonated with her?

"And so being young and dipped and folly I fell in love with melancholy."

I think it was the latter, but I hate that I don't know for certain.

I sat down next to her father and there is both too much, and not enough to say. I said what was able to and then flopped down on my back and stared at the ceiling.

The bed was nearly bare. It isn't until much later that I realized it wasn't that way because she'd been too depressed to make it- no. They'd stripped the sheets because she'd died laying on them and I'd just lain in exactly the same spot.

And it strikes me that I almost died the exact same way.

Broken Tension

Author's Ramble: i kinda did a spin on it cus it was hard to imagine daryl doing anything ever (im delu). anyways i'm literally struggling but i guess writing is like a fresh breath!! i actually write poetry but im insane so i'd rather post my stories for crazy people rather than my beautiful knotted strings of words. (guys someone tell me if second person present or third person past is better)

Prompt: Daryl x Reader smut but the kids interrupt (there's no smut sorreee)

Summary: You and Daryl seem to have something going on and try to take it upstairs, only to find a surprise awaiting you

Contains: Slight mention of alcohol, pretty gender neutral I think , Carl and Judith mentioned

Word Count: 435

The stairs creek with pressure as your hands intertwine, leading him up the stairs, a light jog set in your pace. You recall the moment previously shared with Daryl, only to feel the apples of your cheeks warm in response. You're grateful the hallway is dim.

Flushing your brain for the recent memory, you had found yourself grabbing his neck to push him closer, protected from Deanna's partygoers by a sturdy green bush. The rough pebbles and debris poked your knees, but how could you mind when Daryl was compressing his rose lips against yours? When the two of you decided the lack of privacy was suffocating, you wrapped his hand in yours, leading to your house.

Your foot lands on the final step of the wooden planks, resulting in a whining screech. Your back hits the wall as a large chest presses you against the wall. He's sloppy, messy, sensual, and maybe slightly buzzed. Once you press away he takes the hint, leading you to your bedroom.

The wide knobby oak plank door is pushed open by a sturdy hand. You follow him, only to hit your nose between his lower shoulder blades. Taken aback by the sudden halt, you look around him to meet a surprising duo.

Judith smiles sweetly at you, while Carl adorns a jackass smile.

You take a stride away from Daryl and into the room.

"Hey, what's up?" You smile bashfully, like a child caught in the act of something forbidden.

A flustered red adorns the apples of your face.

Carl slightly wiggles his eyebrows, slowly giving you a sly smile as his eyes slowly dart between you and Daryl. Judith doesn't suspect anything, much to your relief. Daryl situates himself against the door frame, biting the side of his thumb.

Judith casually looks up at you, "We left my books here. Sorry..."

"It's quite late. I'm sure your parents would like you both home soon." Your lips purse into a tight and awkward slight.

The little girl nods and collects her books, you pat her back when she walks past you. Daryl shifts, allowing Judith to exit with Carl on her heels. Carl doesn't miss the opportunity to wink at Daryl (getting a shy grunt in return), before closing the door behind him.

An idle moment of silence passes between the two of you, allowing the sound of the front door shutting to be heard. You pace towards Daryl and cup his face between your hands in a schmaltzy manner. You lean into a slotted soul kiss as his hands find the waist of your figure.

15. What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

im not sure. i plan on getting all of my wips done at some point and i don't really think there is one that i won't (at least not at this point)

descriptions i think. i can paint a pretty picture and definitely have flowery purple prose. and a lot of people have told me i am good at characterization which i always worry about but am glad to hear that's it's something im good at even if i doubt it

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

i cannot shut up. everything i write is so lengthy even when it doesn't need to be. being succinct definitely isn't my strong suit. and uhh i struggle with writing dialogue because i will get lost in the character's headspace and forget people are supposed to be talking

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

i absolutely love it though i don't do it often because i get nervous about it. thankfully i have friends that i can ask if i am unsure about something and im trying to get more comfortable doing it

2. what’s your total ao3 word count? 195,338, and i’m pretty sure half of that came from in flammam flammas alone

3. what fandoms do you write for? currently atla but i’ve dabbled in merlin, ancient history rpf (lmfao), and danmei before

4. what are your top 5 fics by kudos?

nip it in the bud (what can i say, zukos nips are obviously enrapturing!)

lan eye for the bland guy (a testament to the people power of the mdzs fandom)

in flammam flammas (always felt like she should get more love! proportional to the sheer bloody labour i put into her 🙈😆)

deep and creamy (doesn’t deserve it. galactic repairman is way better, i wrote this as a shitty lil voice test fic for zuko pov!!)

the iconoclast (neck to neck with deep and creamy actually, will defs surpass in the next couple of days)

5. do you respond to comments? i make an effort to respond to each of them to show my appreciation. the only time i dropped off was when i wasn’t actively writing and ppl were commenting on stuff from the stone age 😭

6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? definitely religio, in which i killed arthur. granted arthur dying is very much canon and literary convention unrelated but for that fic i asked my latin lecturer at the time about my translation of a passage that ended up in it lolol

7. what is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? in flammam flammas. it’s a triumphalist ending, it’s one zuko has absolutely fought for, and now he gets to reap all his rewards. the joy of overcoming adversity to become a stronger, better person, a force for good in the world

8. do you get hate on fics? thankfully not! besides the occasional leery/perhaps poorly phrased comment. but i cut those some slack

9. do you write smut? if so, what kind? yes i love writing smut [40,000 words of plot later—]

13. have you ever co-written a fic before? i allegedly co-wrote a fic with my ex once… i don’t recall much of the process though so i suspect she actually wrote most of it and i maybe edited/chimed ideas/drew art? otherwise the closest i’ve gotten is collaborating with reikah, which i’ve really loved. i think it’s the ex-grad student in me that loves bouncing ideas with someone else, getting a second opinion, getting pushback. i come up to reikah with all these ideas (usually chunks of prose bc writing is my planning) and i’ll say some shit like “i want chapter 2 of nipfic to be structured in a chiasmus!” and she’s amazing at for instance going in to figure out HOW to practically (re)structure all of that. just like. concrete ways to bring the lofty vision into fruition 🫶

14. what’s your all-time favourite ship? noooo i can’t sayyyyy cos what if it changes?! but i do really love writing zukka atm for their ethnic4ethnic energy. i love writing characters of colour and delving into ideas about empire and colonialism and they’ve been the perfect vehicle for that

15. what’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? well there’s one that i abandoned for uh. political reasons 🤡 i was writing an au based on an event extremely close to my heart and i poured a lot of love into it. but the situation irl took a pretty bad turn and while i wondered at first if i could post anon, i became worried about being harassed or doxxed over it

16. what are your writing strengths? i think im good at writing on a technical level. i used to write poetry and it was a fantastic exercise in wrangling words as an art form. so many lessons carried over into my prose. there’s a sonic element to mine that is i think quite distinctive. plus i can be critical of my own writing and im receptive to feedback

17. what are your writing weaknesses? structure can be a little tricky if there are a lot of moving parts. REALLY grateful to everyone who’s beta read to give a second opinion about those elements. and the bit i hated writing the most in iconoclast was the freakin chapter 2 sports montage. i am not a sporty person

18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? ehh. what’s the point? it’s all well and good if there’s a point to it, which isn’t just “look, i the author can speak other languages”. untranslated, i just think a whole bunch of dialogue in another language can have the effect of alienating a reader see donna tartt’s goldfinch

19. first fandom you wrote for? merlin i lied. it’s hetalia genfic i wrote when i was thirteen years old on fanfiction dot net

20. favourite fic you’ve written? recency bias maybe but i’m becoming VERY fond of the iconoclast. it’s definitely not a fic i thought would take off (zukki is a smaller ship! and the story is balls to the wall bonkers in a way that im sure isn’t up some ppls alley!) but i uncovered so many fascinating ideas and concepts while researching i felt like i HAD to try do them justice. i challenged myself writing more violent fight scenes & more ruthless/complex characters. i wrote the fucking haiku 🤡 and the plot is a bit of a beast. but i can sense it coming together and im writing the insane fic i wanna read!

Hello it’s me again back with another fic exchange event but this time i'm sick of doing all the work so im making u guys do it instead (/silly).

On the 20th of September it will have been a year since my first hermitcraft fic. Really, I just wanted an excuse to organise an event cuz I like doing those. 

This is an AO3 ONLY exchange, due to the ease of archive warnings, ratings, and the tagging system. The name of this exchange implies you will be creating a fic. That is an option, but not actually the point. I am just stupid. 

Any works of any rating with any warning can be submitted. The sign-up form lets you choose what you are comfortable reading. 

[SIGN-UP FORM]

The premise of this exchange is as follows:

Everyone submits one of their own fics (and fills out some details on the submissions form).

Submissions will close at 9pm BST on the 15th of August.

On the 20th of August, I will send out dm’s assigning everyone someone else’s fic.

You will then have a month to create content for that fic (content options below).

All content should be posted by the 20th of September.

This exchange is limited to mcyt, but it’s open to all branches (there is a tick multiple option on the form for which you are comfortable reading).

The content options you can create are listed on the form, but I will explain some specific rules here:

Companion fic. Either a continuation of the fic, a chapter from a different pov, or something else within the universe that the original author created. 

Art. Either doodles or a full blown painting, whatever you want. If your style is more on the quick doodle side, please do a full page/multiple doodles. Equivalent exchange etc. 

Moodboards. A series of (usually 9) still images representing the fic. Please do at least two if you choose to do a moodboard. 

Stimboard/GIF Moodboard. (Usually 9) GIFs representing the fic. With stimboards/gifs, you are allowed to only make one board. 

Poetry. Write a poem about the fic! Get creative with it, whatever. I’m not gonna limit word count but I will say if you write haikus then maybe do more than one. Once again, equivalent exchange. 

Book-style cover art. I made this separate to art because it can be drawing or photo editing, but this would be creating a cover as if the fic were a physical book.

If you are unable to complete your creation by the 20th of September, you can either dm me to tell the person who’s fic you were assigned, or you can dm them yourself. If you have not received your gift by the 20th of September, dm me and I will message the person who was assigned your fic. 

All of these are minimum limits, if you get inspired and want to draw a full-blown comic then go for it! Basically what I’m trying to convey is just make sure your gift is something you’d be happy to receive. This is an event for enjoyment. On the flip-side, don’t feel pressured to create the most glorious work of art and get yourself burnt out. That’s not fun for anyone.

ummm my Curses series was more one-shots without actual plot.. and as many of those were shibuya or post shibuya they were all pretty angsty beifbekdjeodk. i wouldnt say any have this kind of ending because then there would have to be a story. but i would say the saddest one ive written is 'keep running for the sink but the well is dry'

7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

'light of a new morning' for sure. this one actually had some kind of development i would say. also i have bias because this is one of the only three ive written that dont totally suck. though the tsumiki wip im working on for sure will have an even happier ending

there is a shokohime wip i started two or so years ago about shoko's backstory and the developing of their relationship up until the present but at some point there was a research aspect to it and i thought 'ill do it later'. and then i never did 💀 id like to continue it but i still lowk think it will sit there.. i dont have enough motivation to do research ekdbfkenfkdk

there is also a trigun one i started, it was kind of plotless, just vibes, but i wasnt able to get their dialogue right and idk. maybe when i get into a trigun phase again ill find inspiration and continue

i think im good at describing a scene and emotions. im good at making this kind of poetry

im soooo shit at dialogue and even when im not shit at it i keep overthinking it and ruin it anyway lol

i mean ive done it (but i orphaned those... lol) and im doing it now for the tsumiki wip so its fine i guess. but id only do it for languages that i know and if not, after profuse grammar checking. also ofc it has to make sense within the context of the story
