"Colin, what are you doing here?"
Colin sends you his characteristic grin, his fingers drumming on the pillar in your apartment as he leans against it, "Well, I uh.. I needed an escape."
"An escape from what, exactly?" You ask as you take a bite out of your breakfast bagel, quirking a brow in his direction.
"Well, I uhm... Have a girl at my place."
You roll your eyes, "Oh, so you invaded my private space to avoid the girl you just slept with... Again."
Colin laughs, "When you put it that way, it makes me sound like a total asshole."
"Maybe that's because you are a total asshole," you quip, sipping your orange juice, "I've told you numerous times that I don't like when you use me like this."
"Hey!" Colin immediately exclaims, "I'm not using you! I would never!"
Your eyes trail over his naked torso, the sweatpants he's wearing hanging so low on his hips, you're surprised they haven't slipped off already.
You place a hand on your hip as you look at him pointedly, "Sure you wouldn't. Tell me again why you're at my apartment at eight in the morning?"
Colin eyes you for a moment before he sighs, "Fine. You're smarter than me and figured me out. Is that what you want to hear?"
"No," you snort, tidying up your kitchen as you speak with your back turned to him, "What I'd like to hear would be; 'I met this girl and she's amazing and I'm gonna marry her because she's the best.' But for some reason, you keep ruining that."
Colin scoffs obnoxiously, "Why do you keep holding on to that fantasy?"
"Because I know you," you reply as you turn around to face him, "And I know you deserve an amazing person in your life. As your friend, I have a right to believe that. And I also have a right to believe that you're sabotaging yourself by sleeping with random girls every night."
Colin groans, "Will you fucking quit it, already? I don't know where you got the idea that I need to settle down when I've always told you that I don't want to settle down."'
"Right, you want to keep sleeping with strange women every night because it makes you feel better about yourself."
"Exactly!" Colin grins, "I love that about me."
You snort again, "Well I hate that about you. It's one of the things I tolerate about our friendship."
Colin walks up to you, plucking the breakfast bagel out of your hand before he takes a bite, "Please, shut it. It's not like you're any better."
"Better than you?" You scoff, narrowing your eyes at him, "Come on, Col. You must know I'm better than you when it comes to this."
"When we met each other you were just as much of a slut as I was."
"Yeah!" You exclaim loudly, "Five years ago! Did you not realize that it's been that long? Or do you just not believe that people change?"
Colin rolls his eyes, "No, what I don't believe is the fact that you're now suddenly celibate because you want to get married. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard."
You frown, turning your back to him as you put another bagel in the toaster, "Well, just because you don't believe it, it doesn't mean it isn't true."
"Oh come on!" Colin laughs, placing a hand on your shoulder, "You're so full of shit. I saw a guy leave your place yesterday."
You whip around to face him, your eyes narrowing, "Yeah, you did. The same guy that's been leaving my place for the last couple of months."
"What?"
"I'm dating someone," you say, frowning as your eyes meet his, "I've been dating Robert for months now."
"You're dating someone?"
"Yes!" You reply, rolling your eyes, "And you'd know more about him if you ever asked. But you never do! All you ever talk about are the random girls you fuck. Or Mexican wrestling."
"Wait.." He drags out, tilting his head as his eyes narrow, "So you're telling me you're dating someone? Someone serious? And you have been for months?"
"Oh my god, Colin," you sigh, stuffing the bagel into his mouth, "Yes, I am dating. And I have been for a while. Why is that so hard to believe?"
Colin pulls the bagel out of his mouth as he takes a step back, "It's not hard to believe.."
"Then what's with the attitude?"
"There's no attitude," he quickly interjects, "I was just.. I don't know.. Surprised."
"Well, you wouldn't be if our entire friendship wasn't based off of you and your conquests."
"Come on," Colin scoffs, "You know that's not true."
"Isn't it?" You immediately reply, "Because it seems to be the focus of our friendship."
Colin's brows furrow, "Yeah, but not on purpose.. That's just how it's always been.."
"Yeah," you scoff, turning your back once again to butter your fresh bagel when it pops out of the toaster, "That's how it's always been because I'm a good friend and that's what you need. The only times I basically see you anymore is when you come to hide out at my place. I don't feel the need to tell you about what's going on with me."
"Why not?"
You frown, looking at him over your shoulder, "Because you don't care about what's going on with me."
Just as you turn your back to him to focus on the task at hand, he replies, "I care."
"Colin," you groan, shaking your head as you focus on your bagel, "The only important person in your life is you. And I'm okay with that. I've accepted it. But don't fucking lie to me, I don't like being lied to."
"That's not true. And I'm not lying."
You scoff again, turning around to look at him as your arms cross over your chest, "So you're telling me that I hurt your feelings by not telling you about the guy I'm seeing? Come on, Col, we both know you don't give a shit."
"I do give a shit, though," he grits out, glaring at you, "And I can't believe you didn't tell me."
"Will you stop it? It's not that big of a deal. Can you just go back to being your normal self, please?"
"I am being normal."
"No, you're not," you huff, "You're being weird.. And I don't like it."
"Well, excuse me for having a reaction to you telling me you're dating someone," he loudly exclaims, turning his back to you before he starts walking away, "And that you apparently kept it secret because I'm such an awful friend."
"Colin-"
"No!" He yells, glaring at you, "Fuck off. You've said enough. I should leave."
He marches to your door stubbornly, making you huff out, "I thought you needed to hide out here so you wouldn't have to deal with your one night stand? Isn't that the only reason you ever come to see me?"
"Fuck you!" He yells, slamming the door behind him as he walks out.
"Well, fuck you too," you mumble, walking back to your kitchen to finish eating your bagel.
Tumblr media
Five entire days went by without you seeing Colin.
That's the longest you've gone without seeing him since college. On the second day, you contemplated reaching out, but you also knew you'd done literally nothing wrong.
You were just being honest.
Truth is, you loved Colin.
In fact, you'd loved him since the second day you met him. And for the rest of your college days, you were also in love with him. But the closer you got, the more it faded.
The more you watched him hook up with a new girl every night, most of the time right in front of you, the more it went away.
When you found an available apartment in his building, you didn't know if you'd actually stay friends. You always suspected he just kept you close by in college to hit on your friends.
But then you moved in across the hall from him and he decided to keep you around. But he mainly did it so he'd have somewhere to go when he needed to hide from the women he brought home.
To be fair, usually when he'd come by, you two would end up spending most of the day together. You'd watch Mexican wrestling (he's obsessed with it and it's actually quite entertaining, so you didn't mind), or he'd play you music he'd been working on. Sometimes you'd both be doing separate things but within the same space, sharing a comfortable silence. Or you'd watch movies or simply just talk.
But there had always been a.. distance, between the two of you. He always had a hard time opening up, sharing parts of himself. You knew you meant something to him because on rare occasions, he would show a softer side to himself. Like when his dad died. He came to you for support and you did everything to help in any way you could, and it helped you get to know him a little better. He wasn't as guarded as usual.
But eventually, things went back to normal. Which meant he went back to hiding out in your place. You didn't mind that he was hiding, it wasn't about that. It was about the fact that it felt like that was the only reason he came to see you.
In the three years you've lived across the hall from him, he's had countless one night stands. Several times a week, if he wasn't working too much or was too busy to go out. It never grows old - at least not to him.
But it did to you.
Being in love with him did too.
It wasn't more than a few months ago when you decided that the dwindling feelings you harbored for him were not healthy.
That was the night you went on your first date with Robert.
And he's great; charming, handsome.. The only thing that's missing is that feeling inside.
The one you feel whenever Colin is around.
Tumblr media
"I can come up if you want me to."
You're smiling politely up at Robert as you finish another very adequate date, but you're just not in the mood.
You haven't been in the mood for the past few days, but you don't really know why..
Actually, you do.
You know exactly why.
But you refuse to admit it.
"I'd love that, truly," you reply with a small smile, "But I'm feeling pretty.. icky, from the food tonight. I don't know, maybe I ate the wrong thing.. And I feel completely knackered out. I'm sorry Robert, is it okay that I call a raincheck on your offer?"
Robert just offers you a warm smile, "Yeah, of course. Don't worry about it."
He really is a very sweet guy. Not everyone would take a rejection that nicely. You've only been seeing each other for a few months, and it's not exactly serious; you haven't had the talk yet, and you're not exclusive with each other, either.
But he's nice and kind. Very sweet and understanding. And he's making an effort to get to know you.
Robert leans down to peck your cheek, making your smile widen before he pulls back.
"I'll see you later this week."
Once you're inside your building, you trudge up the stairs. You lied when you said you were feeling sick, but you weren't lying when you said you were tired.
Your body feels heavy, your head groggy as you walk up to your place, your mind wandering aimlessly.
You keep thinking back to the date with Robert, and how truly sweet and kind he is, but for some reason you also keep focusing on the fact that something is missing.
And once that thought hits you, your mind inevitably wanders back to Colin.
Fucking asshole. First he infiltrates your apartment and now your mind.
You shake your head and sigh once you reach the final flight of stairs. But you immediately tense up when you hear an oddly familiar sound.
Your eyes dart up at the sound of a high-pitched giggle, immediately landing on a tall, beautiful blonde, practically hanging off Colin's side.
You roll your eyes as you continue walking, glancing shortly at Colin as he fumbles with his keys to get the door open.
You walk past them, your eyes catching Colin's for a split second before he darts his away, back to focusing on getting his front door open.
You walk to your door, swiftly unlocking it, your eyes rolling to the back of your head when you hear the girl giggle out a "Colin, come ooon," before you slam the door shut.
Wine.
You need wine. Only wine can fix this dark cloud seemingly permanently hovering over you.
You hang up your coat before you patter into your bedroom, immediately changing into a pair of sleep shorts and a tank top. You swiftly move to your kitchen, grabbing a bottle of wine and a large glass, and then you plop down on your couch.
Before you know it, you've drank half a bottle while watching some mindless rom-com on TV.
Is this really what it's come to?
You have a perfectly sweet guy, who would have loved to spend the night with you, and yet you're sitting here, moping on the couch and drinking wine. Alone.
Stupid Colin. Stupid Colin with his beautiful stupid face, and sculpted abs, and firm chest, and perfectly round ass, with his large hands that could-
Stop it!
You shake your head at your thoughts, topping off your glass of wine. You need to focus, need to get your shit together.
Maybe it's time you find somewhere else to live.
Yeah. That'll fix it.
You immediately pick up your laptop from the coffee table, perching it on top of your lap as you start typing.
Good places in Boston
Yikes. Okay, that's not going to work. You don't have that kind of money..
Cheap places in Boston.
Double yikes. You want to run away from your distractions, not get murdered..
You sigh, looking through some of the places as you take another sip of wine. Your fingers move over the keyboard before you can even stop yourself.
Places to live in Boston when you're trying to run away from your feelings
You chuckle at the fact that a few options actually pop up, immediately clicking through the pictures.
But then you almost spill your glass of wine on your computer when your front door is suddenly pushed open.
"Alright, we need to talk!"
Colin loudly slams the door shut behind him as he walks inside, making you snap your head to the side to look at him.
"Col, what the fuck?!" You exclaim, placing your laptop down on the coffee table, "What the hell? I thought I locked it, how are you in here?"
"No," he stomps inside, sending you a pointed look, "You didn't. Just like you never do. Sometimes I think you have a death wish."
You roll your eyes and pull your feet up on the couch, tilting your head as your eyes narrow, "Thanks for the lesson, I'll remember to lock it next time. Maybe that'll keep the assholes out."
"That's it!" He yells, crossing his arms as he walks up to you and stands in front of the couch, "We need to talk!"
"Oh, you think so? About what?" You retort, mirroring his expression as you cross your arms over your chest.
"Yes, I do!" He exclaims, clearly missing the sarcastic tone of your voice.
"What are you doing here?" You frown, glaring at him, "I'm pretty sure I saw you with a date. Shouldn't you be entertaining her?"
"I sent her home," he huffs, his stance tense. Your eyes momentarily gaze over him, noticing his grey sweatpants and his t-shirt. But then you inwardly sigh when you spot the text written on it; Free Licks.
"Okay," you sass, "And what's that got to do with me?"
"Everything!" He bellows, arms waving about exasperatedly, "It's all your fault!"
"What?" You snort, watching him as he walks closer to you on the couch, "How the fuck is that my fault? I didn't exactly invite you here, you're the one barging in!"
"Because I can't fucking... Ugh! You're so annoying!"
He huffs out a breath before he plops down on the couch dejectedly, practically staring daggers at you, "You ruined everything!"
"Colin," you sigh, shaking your head as you turn your body to face him. He's slumping down on the couch, legs spread wide, his face reminding you of a kicked puppy, "What are you talking about?"
"I can't do it anymore!" He exclaims, gesturing with his hands exasperatedly, "It doesn't work anymore! You broke it!"
"Broke what?" You frown, tilting your head at him.
"Me!" He yells, whipping his head to the side to look at you properly, "You broke me!"
You snort again.
"How exactly did I break you?"
"You were mean to me and now I can't do it anymore. It's your fault!"
"Okay, stop yelling," you sigh, sitting criss cross on the couch, looking at him, "Elaborate, please."
Colin sighs deeply before he turns his body towards you, "You fucking broke me. You were talking about that shit, about you, and settling down, and just-ugh! You fucking ruined it."
"Colin," you shake your head in confusion, "I have no idea what you're talking about. Do you mean that you're upset because we had a fight?"
"No," he replies, his eyes trailing over your living room, "I'm not just upset because we had a fight, it's not that. It's-"
His eyes narrow when they land on your computer and before you can even object, he snags it off the table, "What the fuck is this?! You're looking for an apartment?!"
You pull your bottom lip between your teeth as your eyes dart down, not saying a word.
His head whips to the side to look at you, "Are you moving?!"
"No, I was just looking-"
"Why?!"
"Please, stop yelling," you mumble, rubbing your temples with your fingers, "You're going to give me a fucking migraine."
His eyes move back to the computer screen, long slender fingers quickly tapping the touchpad as he looks through the site, "Why are you moving?"
You shrug, your fingers fiddling with the hem of your shorts, "I'm not, I'm just.. Looking. I just wanted to see what else is out there, just to, you know.. Have a look."
"But you love living here," he mumbles, glancing at you before he looks back at the screen, "And these places are.. Wait a fucking second."
You glance up at him at his tone, your breath almost hitching when you're met with the stern look on his face.
"Are you moving in with him?"
You scrunch your face up in confusion, "What?"
"You are!" He exclaims, fingers now clicking furiously on the touchpad as he glares at the computer screen, "You're fucking.. You're moving in with him! I can't believe this.. Why would you do that?!"
You put your hands up to calm him, "Okay, hey, calm down, that's not-"
"Why are you moving in with him?!"
You blink a few times as he looks at you, his eyes searching your face. You take a moment too long to reply, making him speak again, "Do you love him?"
"What? Colin, it's-"
"You fucking love him," he breathes out, eyes widening as he looks back at the computer, "You broke me, and now you're gonna move in with this fucking guy, and you're gonna leave, and-"
"Colin!" You interrupt, making him look at you again, "Calm. Down. I am not moving in with him. I was just looking for fun. Calm your fucking tits, Shea."
"But do you love him?"
Your brows furrow at his question.
Why would he ask that?
Your eyes search his face and it has this strange vulnerability to it, one you haven't seen many times before. It's so rare, because he usually hides who he truly is. The only times you've ever seen it have been when something awful has happened, like when his dad died and you went with him to his funeral for support.
Your words are quieter than before when you ask, "Why do you want to know?"
He takes a deep breath, cerulean eyes holding yours captive as he whispers, "I just.. I want to know.. Do you?"
You wait for a moment, holding his piercing gaze, "No, I don't love him."
He releases a breath, your eyes not missing how he visibly relaxes where he sits. Then his eyes move back to the computer without him saying a word.
"Why are you here, Colin? What's going on?"
"You broke me," he mumbles, not looking at you, "I don't work like I used to, anymore."
"What does that mean?"
"Means I can't fucking get it up," he grumbles, clicking through the pictures on the website, "Can't have sex, it's like you're infiltrating my mind. No matter how hard I try, or who I've brought home in the past five days, I can't fucking do it. Can't even masturbate, how pathetic is that?"
He lets out a dry laugh as he continues looking at the pictures on the website, not even glancing your way.
You can feel your heart pounding in your chest, slamming against your ribcage as nerves swirl around your body.
"Why do you think that is?"
"Dunno," he mumbles, "I just keep thinking about you, it's so infuriating. It's never happened to me before, I don't know what the fuck is going on. I think your domesticated stink rubbed off on me, or something.."
You smile, watching the side of his face as he keeps his focus on your computer. "Or maybe it's something else."
"Like what?" He asks dumbly, turning his head to look at you, "You think I'm going impotent?"
You snort, shaking your head, "No, you idiot, you're not going impotent."
"Then what is it? Is this normal? Can you help me? I'm going fucking crazy here."
You nod slowly, eyes holding his, "Yeah, I uh.. I've heard about this before."
"What does it mean?" He asks you urgently, putting the laptop back down on the coffee table so he can face you fully, "How do I fix it?"
"I'm afraid you can't."
"What?! Why not?! I can't live like this!"
You chew on your bottom lip nervously as you hold back a smile at his words, and you don't miss the way his eyes immediately dart down to your lips at the action.
"I don't think it's something that needs fixing, Col. I think it means something else."
"What does it mean?" he mumbles out, eyes staying locked on your lips, "What should I do?"
You lean closer until you can cup his cheek, making his eyes move back up to meet yours, "I think it means you have some feelings that you're trying to ignore."
He scoffs softly, eyes bouncing between your own as he whispers, "But I don't get feelings.."
You chuckle softly, tilting your head, "I'm sorry to tell you this.. But I think you do."
Colin's eyes widen slightly at your words, then dropping to your lips again, "So.. What do I do? How do I get rid of them?"
"Sweetie," you smile, making him meet your eyes again. Your thumb gently rubs his cheek as you whisper, "Why would you want to get rid of them?"
His brows furrow, baby blue eyes scanning yours, "Because they're ruining me. I don't work anymore, I can't-"
He trails off when you lean a little closer, his breath hitching audibly.
"What was that?" You ask, tiling your head, "What were you about to say?"
Colin keeps searing eye contact, his blue eyes slowly being swallowed out by his pupils as he breathes out, "I can't get it up."
You smirk, your eyes darting down to his crotch momentarily, noticing the large bulge straining against his jeans, before you whisper, "You sure about that?"
He looks at you in complete and utter fascination, a dumbfounded expression pulling at his features. Then he mirrors your actions, his hand raising to cup your cheek, "What is this? What's happening?"
You snort, offering him a small smile before you drop your hand from his cheek, "It's nothing, Shea. Doesn't mean anything. But at least now you know your issue isn't physical. It's all in your head."
Colin frowns when you start to pull back, the hand cupping your cheek suddenly sliding back to curl around your neck, "Wait! Wait, stop, don't move.."
He pulls you closer to him, slowly, your lips parting as you look into his eyes intensely. He inches you closer until your breaths are practically mixing, his gaze never faltering.
"Col," you whisper, your heart beating rapidly, "What are you doing?"
He doesn't reply, instead, his eyes bounce between yours nervously before he leans the rest of the way. He moves in, slowly, and then he releases an unsteady breath when his soft lips slot over yours.
Your eyes close on instinct, your body practically melting into him at the delicate touch. He holds you to him, his grip on you never wavering, and it makes you rest your hand on his thigh to steady yourself.
He hums quietly as his lips move over yours, slowly, exploring the feel of them, and you mirror his movement, kissing him back carefully.
You can feel practical fireworks swirling inside you, your mind swimming at how soft his lips feel, how fucking fantastic it feels to dig your teeth into that plump bottom lip of his.
He groans quietly at the action, his other hand lifting to cup your face, tilting your head to kiss you deeper.
But then, when his tongue swipes at the seam of your lips, it snaps you out of it.
You pull back immediately, eyes widening as they meet his, "What-"
"Come back," he whispers, his eyes wild as they meet yours, "Don't pull away, please. Kiss me again."
"Col, I don't know if-"
"Please," he says, his eyes pleading, "It felt so good."
You smile softly, leaning into his touch when his thumb strokes your cheek, "Yeah, it did. But we can't do this, Colin."
"Why not?" He asks, almost needily.
You let out a small sigh, your eyes dropping to your hand on his thigh, "Because I won't just be another notch on your belt. I can't do that, we can't do that. You're my best friend. I don't want to just be a fuck, if we did that it would ruin everything."
"No, you don't know that, maybe-"
"I wouldn't be able to do it," you reply as you look back up at him, "If we crossed that line, I wouldn't be able to go back. I can't do that and still be your friend, still watch you hook up with every girl you meet. It would be too painful."
Colin stays quiet for a moment, those baby blues almost haunting as he holds your gaze. But then his hands drop, releasing you from his hold, and it's like your heart shatters into a million pieces.
"You're right," he mumbles, looking away from you, "You're right, it wouldn't be okay. It would be bad."
You try to hide the hurt inside, forcing on a brave face as you reply, "Yeah, it would be."
"I'm sorry," Colin says, glancing back at you before he gets up from the couch, "I shouldn't have done that. I shouldn't even have come here. I should go."
And then, before you can even manage to object, he's stormed out of your apartment, leaving you sitting on your couch, feeling even more lost than before.
Tumblr media
When your door opens suddenly at 8 am two days later, it makes your blood run cold.
You almost cower in the kitchen, your eyes glued to the inside of your fridge, body tensing when the front door slams and you hear footsteps getting closer.
Guess it's back to normal, then.
And normal means he hooked up last night.
You take a moment to calm yourself before you mumble out, "Morning."
"Morning!" Colin says cheerfully as he walks closer, dropping something on the kitchen counter behind you.
You pick up the jug of juice in your fridge door, not looking at him as you turn to bring out a glass from the cupboard, "You're chipper this morning."
"Yeah," Colin replies, watching you pour juice into your glass, and you don't miss the happy tone of his voice.
Guess his problem got fixed.
You open another cupboard, reaching to pull out the bag of bagels hiding inside, when Colin's voice stops you, "No need, I got us breakfast."
That makes your brows furrow.
You glance at him over your shoulder, surprised to see he's actually dressed at 8 am, wearing a graphic tee and a pair of jeans, as well as his blue converse.
You tilt your head, smiling in amusement, "What?"
Colin lifts the bag off the counter, jutting his chin toward the couch, "C'mon, let's watch something. I got us fresh bagels. Bring the cream cheese."
You watch in utter confusion as he walks over to the couch and plops down on it, placing the bag of bagels on the coffee table. You remain a little sceptical as you bring out plates, a knife, and the cream cheese from your fridge, before you follow him.
You sit down next to him, frowning in confusion as you move to sit criss-crossed on the couch, leaning against the arm of it.
Colin just smiles as he pulls two bagels out of the bag, even preparing each of them with cream cheese before handing one to you.
You take it hesitantly, eyeing him carefully as he leans back on the couch and takes a bite, picking up your remote to turn on the TV.
As you watch him casually take a bite of his bagel, you finally ask, "Colin, what's going on?"
"Breakfast," he replies with his mouth full, eyes locked on your TV screen.
"Yeah, I got that," you chuckle, looking at him incredulously, "But, why?"
"Wanted to prove it to you," he says after he swallows his bite, finally turning his head to look at you.
"Prove what to me?" You ask curiously, watching the wide grin slowly spreading on his face.
"That it's different," he replies as he looks at you, "That you're different."

Tired of the Temporary
Summary: You lost your beloved cat, Mavis. Your gorgeous neighbor is there to comfort you, and although you adore him, you don’t want to be another notch. Is he tired of temporary?
Colin Shea x Reader (You)

Tumblr media
A/N: As always, thank you so much to @peyton-warren who always cheers me on. I was blocked by my own grief, hopefully this will allow me to continue on.
This is purely a comfort piece for me as I just lost my sweet cat unexpectedly. Colin is one of my comfort characters, so I hope anyone else who needs comfort can find it here 💙
Warnings: Pet death, euthanasia, angst-so much angst, Fluffy ending
It had all happened so fast. You’d just woken up, your sweet cat curled up next to you. She chuffed when you moved, irritated at the interruption to her beauty sleep. Mavis stood up and stretched, her two front paws stretched out in front of her, her back end in the air, yawning wide before she jumped off the bed.
You threw your covers back and made your way to the bathroom, then into the kitchen to feed Mavis who was already standing and meowing at the cabinet where you stored her food. She sat down, looking at you expectantly, and you were pretty sure if she could talk, you’d be getting an earful. You stopped to pat her head, always loving her purr while eating.
You made your way back to the bathroom to shower and get your morning started. This was your one day off this week and you’d made plans to hang out with Colin, your very handsome man whore of a neighbor. You’d be lying if you said you didn’t have feelings for him, the two of you spending more and more time together, but you were also wary. You’d seen the revolving door of women, you didn’t want to be just another one night stand, so you kept your feelings to yourself and your heart out of reach.
You’d just turned off the water, your thoughts running through your mental checklist as you got dressed when you heard Mavis yowl. You quickly threw on your hoodie and jeans, running out to the living room. Your heart dropped when you saw her, unable to stand no matter how hard she tried, her cries alerting you to her excruciating pain.
“Mavis?!” you yelled, dropping to your knees next to her, checking for any obvious signs of trauma or injury. When you got to her hind legs, you immediately noticed the limpness, the temperature cooler than the rest of her body. You knew what this was, she’d thrown a clot called a Saddle Thrombosis, a fancy way of saying a clot that paralyzes.
Time was of the essence, you knew as you scooped her up carefully, cradling her in your arms as you whispered she would be okay. Thankfully you didn’t live too far from the veterinary clinic you worked at, a five minute drive at the most, even shorter as you ran red lights. You pulled to a screeching stop, barely shutting your door as you ran into the clinic, Mavis having gone frightfully still.
You ran past the reception area directly into the back treatment room, calling for the doctor. You placed Mavis on the treatment table and moved to grab the emergency supply kit when the doctor came in, followed by the other two veterinary techs on duty. You pulled out the supplies to place an IV catheter, tearing the tape as you went.
“What happened?” Doctor Yang said as she made her way to the treatment table, gently pulling you back and out of the way so she and the techs could work. You explained everything to her, not even realizing you had started crying until you felt a tear hit your hand, a prequel to the tornado about to rip your world apart.
“I need you to go to a room and let us work,” Yang said gently as she palpated Mavis’ spine to evaluate where she was hurting and where the paralysis began. You knew she was right, you were too close to this, there was nothing you could do while you were blinded by your emotions. You silently left the treatment area and made your way to the waiting room.
After what felt like an eternity, Dr. Yang made her way to the waiting room, her face somber, a face you’d seen many times, the face she made when she had to deliver a terminal diagnosis or heartbreaking news. Yang had gotten only as far as apologizing before you dropped to your knees. You heard a keen wail, not realizing you were hearing yourself.
“I’m so sorry, she isn’t going to make it. You know I will do whatever you want, but you know the odds of her surviving after throwing a clot this large are very slim,” Yang said. “I need to know what you want to do here. If you want us to try, I need to get back there now.” Yang gently squeezed your shoulder, bringing you back to reality. As you stared into her face, looking for any direction, you knew what you needed to do. You told Yang your decision, compassion crossing the woman’s face.
You were led to the euthanasia room to wait for Mavis, your final goodby looming over the horizon. You’d thought about this day for so long, wondering how you would feel, how much it would hurt, wondering if you’d ever be able to love another cat the way you loved her. The door opened as Dr. Yang entered with the two other techs in tow, and the receptionist.
“We closed the clinic,” the receptionist, Julia, told you as her eyes filled with tears. “You need friends, and we need to say goodbye too. We all love Mavis so much.” Everyone nodded in agreement as the new tech, you weren’t too sure of her name, placed Mavis in your lap, wrapped in a warm blanket.
“We already gave her the pre med in the back,” Yang said softly as she flushed the IV with saline. You cried harder, kissing Mavis on the head and telling her over and over how much you loved her, how it was okay for her to go, how you would never forget her while the doc administered the medication to stop the heart. You cried harder, your sobs eching through the room, Yang nodding to confirm she was gone.
Everyone in the room was sobbing, and slowly one by one, they all left until it was just you. You kept holding Mavis, telling her how good she was, telling her over and over how much you loved her. After about an hour, you pushed the button to alert the front desk that you were done and they could come and take Mavis.
You weren’t sure how you made it home, the drive was a blur and done completely by muscle memory. You couldn’t stop crying, your eyes expressing a sorrow you’d never felt before, a piece of your soul ripped from your existence. You weren’t sure how you managed to get into your apartment, your tears streaming endlessly. You kicked off your shoes, not even bothering to change, and went straight to your bed to lay down, pulling your duvet over your head. Your tears dampened your pillow, catching every moment of sorrow.
You weren’t sure when you fell asleep or what woke you up, however you looked around confused wondering if it was all a horrible nightmare. You sat up and looked around, calling for Mavis with all of the hope you could muster, collapsing back into your grief at the realization you wouldn’t be waking up from this nightmare.
You slid even further down your bed, pulling your covers over your head as you sobbed, your heart shattered.

Mavis and you had found each other at very difficult times, you having just lost your mother, Mavis having lost hers also. You’d heard the tiny cries, following the sound to a tiny kitten, hungry and scared.
You took her with you, with the intention of taking her to a shelter as you weren’t sure you had the emotional capacity to care for another living creature, but you’d have to take care of her over the long weekend. You put your tiny friend in your purse, got back into your car to get some supplies.
You stocked up on wet food and kitten milk as she couldn’t have been older than three weeks, along with a litter box, and lots of toys. You heard the tiny cries as you made your way home, and held her as you set up her little spot with a heating pad, litterbox, toys, and blankets. You tried to put her down to make her a bottle, her tiny cries breaking your heart.
After she had her bottle and you did the dirty job of helping her use the bathroom, you put her down on the heating pad and covered her with blankets, moving to your bed, exhausted but sure you wouldn’t sleep. You’d buried your mother today, and now here you were, taking care of a baby kitten, a baby kitten who wouldn’t stop crying.
“Alright, alright little one,” you cooed as you made your way over to her, too exhausted to listen to her cry all night. You scooped her up, wrapped her in two blankets to maintain her body heat, and moved her to the bed with you. You placed her on your chest, her tiny purrs immediately relaxing you. You smiled as you felt her tiny paws making biscuits in the blankets, her purrs getting louder.
“So, you’re stuck with me for a few days,” you told her softly, her purrs seeming to grow in response. “What should we call you? Kitten? Cat? Little one?” You felt her climb up your chest, curling up in your neck under your hair. You pulled the blanket up to cover her, pulling out your phone to find a movie as you felt her breath even out, her purrs slowing.
You decided on a show you had just recently found, Gravity Falls, a supernatural cartoon you wish you’d had growing up. As the twins, Mabel and Dipper popped up, the name came to you, a name you’d always loved: Mavis.
“What do you think, Mavis? Is that your name?” you asked the tiny creature, a tiny chirp followed by a yawn your answer. Mavis it was then. You fell asleep like this, Mavis curled up, in your neck, your phone on your face still playing. It had been days since you last slept, but tonight, you found a comfort you never thought you’d experience again.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The next time you opened your eyes, you heard the TV in your living room playing softly, the scent of your favorite food flooding your senses. You sat up, your head throbbing from the crying, your eyes puffy and sore, and stretched, wrapped your blanket around you and made your way to the living room.
“Hey, I didn’t mean to wake you,” Colin said quietly as he handed you some ibuprofen and water, anticipating your needs before you even thought of it. You gratefully took the medicine, gulping down the water in just a few swallows, not realizing how thirsty you were.
You looked at Colin, his eyes filled with concern and sorrow, and you knew he found out. “Who told you?” you asked, your voice raspy and raw from sobbing as you felt the tears well up again. The last thing you wanted to do was have this gorgeous man look at you the way he was now; you hated anyone seeing you emotional, never wanting to seem weak. With Colin, you didn’t want to stop the thing before it even started.
“I stopped by the clinic to grab Mavis some of her favorite treats and Janice told me,” he said softly as he dropped down next to you on the couch, his arm instantly around your shoulder pulling you to rest your head on his chest, his other arm around you playing with your hair as he whispered softly to you that it was okay, to let it out, and that he wasn’t going anywhere.
As the tears started to slow, you lifted your head and saw Colin shedding tears of his own. You reached up to his face, wiped his tears away, and gently kissed his cheek as the two of you sat quietly in your grief.
“I remember the first time I met her, she was so cranky and mean," Colin said, his hand still softly playing with your hair as his other hand moved soothingly up and down your arm. You chuckled softly as you recalled that day also, your first glimpse of a very naked Colin, heading by your door as you brought some more boxes in from downstairs.
Colin stopped and smiled, covering the good parts with a dish towel while he ate an apple. “Hey, you must be new!” Colin said, pulling the towel up to wipe the corner of his mouth. "I’m Colin, I live right across from you-oh shit.” Colin opened your door and dashed in as you watched with your mouth open.
“Hey!” you yelled as you dropped the box and moved to open your door just as your naked neighbor’s front door opened with an equally naked woman standing in the doorway. You closed your mouth which was catching flies at all of the porn you’d managed to see in the last ten minutes, trying to look everywhere except this woman’s perfect tits. God damn, how was it fair to even look like that? You suddenly felt very self conscious as you stood there in a baggy t-shirt and shorts covered in cat hair, your hair in a messy pile on your head.
“Oh hey,” the woman said as she stood with everything out, very comfortable with her body. You’d kill to look like this woman, but right now, you’d settle for a bra and some shorts. “Have you seen a guy, I think his name is Coleman, Callum, no that’s not right either. Oh! COLIN! That’s his name. Have you seen Colin anywhere?”
“Can’t say that I have, sorry,” you mumbled as you turned and made your way to the front door. You heard the supermodel grumble and retreat back inside. You cleared your throat and balanced the box the best you could while trying to turn the door knob, cursing the rudeness of your uninvited guest, no matter how tight his ass was.
“Whoa, whoa,” you heard Colin say as you heard Mavis hissing at him. “Good cat, kitty, kitten, whatever you prefer, I’m not going to hurt you,” Colin said softly from the corner, the towel covering his dangly bits from your fierce, tiny cat. You watched with amusement as Mavis swatted at the bottom of the towel, growling and hissing again. “Little help?” you heard from a distressed Colin, the entire scene causing you to erupt in laughter.
You walked over to your girl, scooped her up, her body instantly relaxing at your touch. Her purr revved up as you pet her head, telling her she was the absolute best guard cat in the world. You heard Colin grumble and grouse from your couch, finally free to move about. You reminded him of the tiny fact that he had broken into your house, and Mavis was free to protect her territory.
“So…” you awkwardly began, trying to avert your gaze and look at anything besides his bottom half, a slight heat creeping up the back of your neck. “Do you like cheese?” you asked, mentally kicking yourself as soon as the words left your mouth. You were so shy and introverted, small talk was hard for you.
You both heard the door across the hall open and close as Colin’s guest yelled a not so nice goodbye as she left. Colin stood, thanking you for letting him hide, never answering what his favorite cheese was, and made his way across the hall. You went back to unpacking, chastising yourself as you worked, reminding yourself that this is why you didn’t have many friends.
A sudden knock on your door caused you to jump as you were lost in your thoughts, and you were surprised to see Colin standing there with more boxes. You opened the door to let him in, thanking him but reminding him he didn’t need to do this if he had other plans.
“It’s no trouble. It’s my day off and I am going to make friends with your psycho demon cat if it takes all year,” he said, holding out his hand to pet Mavis as she made her way into the living room and sat at your feet. She lulled him in with a false sense of security, hissing and swiping at his hand at the very last second, then cleaning the paw that had touched the offensive object while Colin cursed under his breath. You laughed and handed him a paper towel, your laugh bubbling to the surface of your shy demeanor.
“You don’t know much about cats, do ya?” you chided as you moved to the box of Mavis’ things and grabbed out her favorite catnip treats and toy mouse, and handed them to Colin. “Here, hold this out and let her come to you. Let her sniff you and get used to your scent. Once she accepts you and the treat, go ahead and hand her her favorite toy.”
Colin did exactly as you said, smiling like a little boy on Christmas when Mavis finally ate the treat out of his hand and took her mouse. She played on the floor a little bit defore laying on her back and offering her belly to Colin. Before you could warn him about the belly trap, Mavis grabbed onto his arm with all four paws, bunny kicking his arm with her two back feet, and holding his hand hostage with her front paws while she bit him playfully, not hard enough to break skin.
You laughed at his face of surprise, then laughter as he played with your grumpy little lady. Unbeknownst to you or Mavis, Colin Shea found you fascinating, something he had never felt before, preferring to keep everything casual because it was easier. But at that moment, Colin Shea knew he was in trouble and his life wouldn’t be the same, scared this would destroy him in the end.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
“She wanted to eat you,” you said through your laughter as you moved your head off of Colin’s chest to look up at him, finding his eyes already on yours, his shoulders shaking with laughter at the memory. “Then when she tricked you into thinking you could pat her belly.”
Your laughter stopped as your body was wracked with sobs. “I failed her, I didn’t do enough, I didn’t get her there fast enough,” you said, finally vocalizing your grief, your guilt, your anger. “I should have had them try, I killed her. How could I miss what was happening?” you continued, your breaths becoming shallow as you found it harder and harder to breathe, the oxygen thick with your sorrow.
“Mavis loved you, she knows how much you loved her. You gave her everything.” Colin held you as you cried, trying to soothe your broken heart and soul. “She knew you would have done anything to save her, but she also trusted you to make the most difficult decision if you couldn’t.” Colin let you cry, rocking you back and forth comforting you the best he could.
As you calmed and your tears started to dry, you heard your stomach growl, the smell of your favorite food wafting into the living room. Colin laughed, and you grumbled as you chastised your stomach for embarrassing you.
Colin stood to grab plates for you both, leaving you on the couch, already missing his warmth as you wrapped your blanket tighter around you. You asked how he knew what your favorite food was, completely shocked at his answer.
“You told me last month We were up on the roof, you’d had a bad day, so we set up the inflatable sumo suits and drank between rounds.” Colin said as if his remembering anything you’d said to him was an everyday occurrence. You’d never had anyone really listen to you, no one ever cared enough to listen.
“You remember that?” you asked as you took a bite of the plate Colin set in front of you, your hunger taking over as you realized you hadn’t eaten since yesterday. Colin looked over at you, then back at the television, trying to find something for the two of you to watch.
“Of course I do, I remember everything we talk about.” Colin settled on DareDevil, a show you’d recently started watching together as you introduced him to the MCU. He continued staring at the screen, pretending he didn’t see the soft smile that crossed your face as you continued eating. Once you’d finished, you leaned your head on Colin’s shoulder, and before you knew it, you’d fallen asleep.
Colin looked down, pushing a piece of hair out of your face and tucking it behind your ear, and kissed you softly on the forehead. You smiled and sighed, snuggling even deeper into Colin’s arms, his head resting on yours as he made sure you were covered, falling asleep quickly.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
You opened your eyes, confused for a moment as you weren’t in your bedroom. You felt movement behind you, forgetting that Colin had come over last night. You screamed, falling on the floor when Colin moved his hand around your waist to pull you in closer.
“What the hell?” Colin said as he sat up quickly, sleep written all over his face as he stared at you on the floor. “Are you okay?” he asked, slightly confused as he helped you off the ground. You hopped up, your face and neck hot with embarrassment as you sat back down on the couch, unable to meet Colin’s gaze.
“I’m, I’m fine. So-sorry. I forgot where I was for a second and when you moved you scared me, and I guess I fell….and now I’m rambling.” You shook your head as Colin laughed, completely humiliated by your reaction. Had it really been that long since you’d felt someone touch you? And if you were being utterly honest with yourself, you liked the way Colin felt. His touch made you feel safe enough to cry, to fall asleep, to just be yourself.
“Hey, it’s okay. You fell asleep right after we started the show, not even Matt Murdock could keep you awake.” Colin stood and stretched, turned to use your bathroom, and you couldn’t help yourself, your gaze landing on his perfect ass, one of your favorite sights.
You shook your head, trying to tell yourself Colin didn’t like you in that way, not the way you cared for him. He was your friend, he was there for you during hard times, but you knew his feelings about commitment, you were witness to his many different women. That’s why you kept your distance.
You started some breakfast, eggs, bacon, and toast, for the two of you. You didn’t have work today, your boss had given you the rest of the week and weekend off so you could mourn in private. Colin made his way in, coming behind you to steal a piece of bacon you’d just grabbed.
“Hey! Jerk. I made you some right here!” you grumbled, slapping Colin on the chest as you made your way to the living room with both plates. “Can you grab the hot sauce, utensils, and juice please?” you asked, as you grabbed the remote to start your show all over again.
Colin set all of the requested items down before you had even started the show, having grabbed everything and followed right behind you. Damn it, if he could just let someone stay more than one night, he’d be such a good boyfriend, you thought.
“You’re staring again,” Colin said, his eyes never leaving the screen as Matt and Foggy flashed into view. You dropped your eyes, mortified he had caught you. Again. You were thinking of some reason to have been caught when you heard your phone ringing in the bedroom.
You ran to answer it, tears forming by the end of your conversation. It was your boss calling to let you know Mavis had been a special cat, so she was sent for cremation and was back at the clinic for you to pick up. You thanked your boss, telling her you’d be there to get her shortly. You were so lost in your tears, you hadn’t heard Colin come in and sit beside you on the bed. You immediately leaned in, seeking the warmth and comfort of his embrace and let your tears go.
Colin offered to drive you to the veterinary hospital, which you gratefully accepted. The ride was quiet, and before you knew it, you were parked in front. Colin asked if you wanted him to go in with you, but you declined knowing this was something you needed to do on your own.
You came back to the car a few minutes later, a small urn clutched tightly to your chest, your sobs wracking your entire body. You felt Colin’s hand on your thigh as you drove back, but you were so lost in your head. You weren’t even aware of pulling into the parking lot or even making your way upstairs.
You laid down in bed, Mavis on the nightstand, and pulled the blankets over your head again, your place to hide from the world. You fell into a restless sleep, your dreams plagued with guilt over Mavis and your inability to save her. You woke from a particularly rough nightmare, and threw your blankets off, feeling suffocated under the weight of your feelings.
You dropped to the floor, panting with sweat running down your face mixed with your tears. You heard your door open, but didn’t register Colin was there until he made you look at him to regulate your breathing. Colin was trying to ground you as you were in the middle of an anxiety attack. The ringing in your ears finally softened to a dull noise, your tears finally slowed, and your breathing was back to normal, your breaths in and out matching Colin.
“There you go, that’s it. Keep doing that.” Colin moved beside you, his arm around your shoulder as he kissed your forehead so softly you weren’t even sure you had felt it. Once you’d finally calmed down, you allowed Colin to put you back into bed. He covered you up, then moved to lay behind you as you fell back asleep, safe and warm in his arms.
You woke up to find your bed empty and cold, Colin no longer behind you. You stood up and made your way to the bathroom, stepping into a hot shower and brushing your teeth. Once you finally felt a little human again, you dressed and made your way out to the living room.
You weren’t sure what you were expecting, but you found yourself disappointed when Colin was nowhere to be found. Not that you could blame him, though. You’d broken down in front of him more than once, and if he wasn’t completely sure he wasn’t the commitment type, you would definitely be the one to prove his point.
You grabbed some water and ibuprofen and made your way back to your room. You gulped down the glass along with three pills when you noticed it. The urn was gone. You dropped your glass, not caring when it shattered beneath your feet. You looked all over, only stopping when you heard your front door open.
“Hey, what are you doing awake?” Colin asked as he made his way into your room, takeout bags in his hand. He made his way next to you, stopping when he saw the broken glass on the floor. “Shit, don’t move, let me clean this up.” Colin left, returning with a broom and dustpan.
“Mavis, I can’t find Mavis,” you said as you looked around your room and on the nightstand again. “I know I left her here, I was asleep, you were here and then you weren’t…” you mumbled, rambling as you tried to think of anywhere the urn could have gone.
“I’m sorry about leaving like that, I had something I wanted to surprise you with,” Colin said as he continued sweeping the shards of glass. “I grabbed Mavis, I wanted to sur…”
“Why the hell would you take her?” you yelled, anger rushing over every fiber of your being at what you’d just heard. “You had absolutely no right!”
Colin stopped, startled at the sudden rage in your voice. “I didn’t mean any harm, I wanted to…” You stopped him, fury taking over every rational part of your demeanor.
“You had no right to take her while I was sleeping. What were you thinking? How on earth did you assume this would be a good idea? Just when I start letting my guard down around you, just when I think you’re someone I could absolutely let in, you go and do something like this. Get out.”
“Just let me show you what I am doing,” Colin said as he pulled his phone out to show you something. “You’re going to love it, and I promise to bring Mavis back when I’m done.”
“Just get the fuck out. I don’t want to see it, I don’t want to see you! You betrayed my trust, took the one thing that matters to me right now.” You turned and locked yourself in your bathroom, collapsing onto the floor. Your heart shattered even more, knowing Colin hadn’t meant any harm, yet you unleashed all of your anger and sorrow onto him, keeping him at arm's length.
You waited in the bathroom, eventually falling asleep on the floor, waking only when your back and legs started to cramp up. You stood and moved to your bed, covering your face and head again, not wanting to see the empty nightstand. You also missed the warmth behind you, the strong arms that held you while you cried, but it was better this way.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
You spent the rest of your time off in bed, only leaving it to use the bathroom. You’d been awakened by knocking on your door the first couple of days, but you didn’t answer, choosing to hide away. Eventually the knocking stopped, and you weren’t sure if you were relieved or sad.
Monday came around too quickly, but you forced yourself up and made your way to the bathroom. You showered and dressed, unsure how you were going to make it through this day, but knowing you couldn’t hide any longer.
Your day was a blur, full of routine and muscle memory. You smiled when you had to, laughed when it was expected, and left looking cheerful and happy. You weren’t but you definitely faked it until you made it.
You pulled into your parking spot at home, sitting in your car for a few minutes to let the weight of the day fall away from you, exhausted and emotionally drained. You made your way inside and up the stairs where you saw a small package in front of your door. You stopped as you saw the small urn next to it, and dropped down to get a better look.
The urn was Mavis, and it had a small nameplate and picture of her added to the urn. Next you opened the small box, finding a beautiful necklace which looked like the cosmos swirled with the brightest strip of stars ever seen. You pulled the chain out to get a closer look when you saw the small insert in familiar handwriting.
This is a small charm made from some of Mavis’ ashes, this way you always have her with you. I”m sorry I broke your trust or hurt you, that wasn’t my intent. I just wanted you to have a piece of her always. -Colin
You hung your head in shame, fully realizing just how awful you had been to this man, this man who just wanted to make you happy. You took a deep breath and swallowed your pride as you made your way over to Colin’s door and knocked.
“Colin?” you called, waiting a few seconds before knocking again. “Colin, I know I was horrible to you, please open the door?” You waited again, sighing as you started to turn away before stopping. “I need to say this, and I don’t know if I will have the courage again, so please listen. I am so sorry. I was wrong and mean, I took all of my anger and grief out on you, you didn’t deserve it at all. You were nothing but amazing to me, and I am sorry. This is beautiful, but I can’t accept it. I don’t deserve this.”
“Yes you do,” you heard from behind you. You jumped, turning to see Colin leaning against the wall, his hands in his pockets. He smiled his crooked little smirk, the one that always made your heart race, his bright blue eyes focused on you.
“So, did you hear all of that or do I need to start all over again?” you asked, embarrassment creeping up your neck and face. You weren’t good at this, sharing and apologizing, and you were really hoping he’d heard it all.
“I heard it, and you don’t owe me any apologies. I’m sorry I worried you, I’m sorry I hurt you at all. I just wanted to surprise you with something to see that smile I’ve come to adore so much.” You stared at Colin in shock, not quite believing your ears.
“What do you mean? You don’t adore me, you don’t do relationships, remember?” you said, confusion written all over. You wanted this to be true, there is nothing you wanted more but you knew about his liaisons, and you weren’t going to be just another notch.
“I didn’t, but then I met this really quiet and shy neighbor who let me hide out in her apartment the first time I met her, and from there, I stopped being interested in the temporary.” Colin started walking towards you as he continued. “We started spending a lot of time together and I finally realized what I truly wanted. So, the endless parade of women stopped, and I started spending all of my time with her.”
You looked up, trying to remember the last time you’d seen anyone come out of Colin’s apartment, realizing there hadn’t been a woman in months. “You want me?” you asked, waiting to hear him finally say the words.
“I want you,” Colin said as he grabbed your face and pulled you in for a kiss. This was by far the most amazing kiss you’d ever had, his lips soft and sweet, his tongue gentle as he waited for you to allow him access.
You pulled away, the both of you breathless and flushed. “You’re sure this is what you want?” you asked, your uncertainty taking hold as you looked up at this man, the one you’ve wanted for so long.
“I’ve never been so sure about anything before.” He pulled you into his chest, holding you tightly. As you melted into his touch, you felt his hands move lower until your ass was placed perfectly in his grasp.
“And there he is, there’s the Colin I know,” you said, laughter bubbling up as you smacked his hands away. He looked at you, that sexy sideways smirk on his face.
“Hey, this is all just for you now,” he said as he gestured up and down his body. “I never said anything about being chaste, only that you were now the only victim of my hormones.” You laughed and kissed him again, softly and slowly, fully enjoying your new life.
You would swear you saw and heard fireworks if anyone ever asked, but for once, you finally allowed yourself to live in the moment. You weren’t sure if this would last, but if every day with Colin was like they had been, you were damn sure going to try.

The park is crowded, teeming with people having picnics, walking their dogs, and letting their children run loose along the grass and walkways.
Everyone here seems to be more intimately involved. They hold hands or have their arms slung around their partners in one way or another. If they’re not attached physically, they walk in close proximity to each other.
It makes Colin and Aly stick out. They look like an awkward pair, staying about half an arm’s length from one another as they search for the picnic area where Aly’s next ex is meant to be entertaining a seven-year-old’s party.
“There it is,” Colin points out.
It’s the classic picnic-in-the-park birthday party with bright foil balloons, food everywhere, and kids running amuck with water guns and silly string. Parents are day drinking out in the open, not paying attention to whatever havoc their little monsters were creating.
Colin gulps when he realizes this is in his future. Over-the-top birthday parties for kids who probably won’t remember a single second of it, stupid presents, and mingling with actual adults who know what they’re doing.
He’s way out of his depth. He should’ve known he was punching out of his weight taking you back to his apartment; you were the only woman smart enough to leave before he woke up. His usual targets are the girls who have only a fraction more desperation than he has. It’s why they stay in the morning hoping for something more and what’s led him to running around Boston tracking down his neighbor’s exes.
“Well, there he is,” Aly’s voice comes, jarring him from his thoughts.
He spots a little wooden theater where two homemade farm animal puppets appear to be arguing. The kids burst into laughter while Colin and Aly exchange a look.
As the show comes to a close, it doesn’t get any stranger, but it gives Aly an opportunity to say hello while the kids get cake and watch the birthday celebrant open presents.
To avoid looking like a strange man lingering around a child’s birthday party, Colin makes his way to a tree and sits among the roots. He contemplates his impending fatherhood while people watching from his vantage point.
It’s not just stupidly expensive birthday parties coming. He watches a dad catch his kid mid-fall–it’s that too. He sees another lugging a diaper bag in one hand while his baby flails in his grip, but his hold never falters.
Colin looks at his hands. Can I do that?
At the birthday party, a man mediates a situation between two boys. One boy says something, he looks at the other one. On and on, until the man speaks once more and the boys hug before playing together again.
Will anyone teach him how to do this?
He thinks about his own father; Chief of Police in Salem, a well-respected man who produced two sons who have made a name for themselves in their own rights.
And a third who had no part of his life together, trying to usher a baby into the world with a woman he had a one night stand with.
“Well, that was a disaster,” Aly’s voice jars him from his thoughts, the ideas rattling in his brain before dissipating like smoke.
“Huh?”
“Didn’t get much out of that encounter other than the fact that I remember why we broke up.”
“And…?”
“His puppets creeped me out. Anyway,” Aly pauses as she opens her purse and digs through it. “Here is…twenty, forty, sixty, seventy.”
She hands him the cash and it crumples in his hands.
“You wanna grab a taxi back to the building? I need some wine.”
Colin shakes his head. “No, I’m just gonna head a few blocks that way before I head back.”
“What’s over at ‘a few blocks that way’?”
“Just gotta pick up some stuff,” he says as he shoves the bills in his pocket. “I’ll see ya around.”
She nods and walks on her way to the western entrance of the park.
Putting his hands in his pockets, Colin stands up and begins to walk down the path when a male voice catches his attention.
“Hey, Free Licks.”
Looking up, he finds Mateo, donned in all black with shades perched on his nose. Colin can’t help but note the difference between the two of them again; he was wearing stained jeans and a faded t-shirt.
Colin greets him with a nod. “Detective.”
“What brings you to the park today?”
“Oh, you know, the sunshine, the fresh air.” Colin inhales through his nose obnoxiously.
Mateo raises an eyebrow. “I see. Well, I was here on business from Y/N, but…when I see suspicious activity, I have to follow up on it, you know?”
Colin shakes his head, a little incredulous. “What? She’s got you spying on me?”
“Not you, but a point person. BPD business. There was a drop that was meant to happen. You know anything about that?”
Pursing his lips and raising his brows, Colin gestures “no” again. “Nothing that I’ve seen.”
Mateo reaches into his pocket and hands him his card. “Well, if you see anything, you’ll let me know, right?”
Taking it between his thumb and forefinger, the card nearly falls in his weak grip. Colin doesn’t know what to do with it or why Mateo is giving it to him. “Sure…?”
“Good. See you around, Free Licks.”
- - - - -
“I wasn’t expecting you to actually show up,” you scoff with a smile. “But, while you’re here, you can push the cart.”
You let go and the cart still moves, wheels squeaking as it glides down the aisle and Colin scrambles to get a grip on the handle. When he eventually gets it, he cranes his neck to find you studying the different boxes lining the shelves.
“What are we looking at?”
“Changing tables.”
“Like the ones in ladies’ bathrooms?”
“Not quite, but same idea. Just a space where you can store everything for changing a diaper and keep the baby safe while you’re grabbing stuff.”
“You make it sound like it’s a whole process,” Colin snorts.
You look at him. “You’ve never changed a diaper before in your life, have you?”
He scoffs, lying through his teeth. “Psh, what are you talking about? Of course, I have.”
“It’s okay if you haven’t, you know that right?”
How are you able to see right through him?
It seems his face shows his bewilderment, and you respond to it, “Colin, like I said, I didn’t expect you to do any of this. I still don’t expect a lot from you–not that I don’t welcome this, but because I can do this on my own if I need to.”
He doesn’t reply. Looking at his face, his cheeks look particularly round like a child’s, casting a sort of innocence on him that doesn’t reflect the person you know him as. He’s goofy and charming, things that attracted you to him in the first place that fateful night when all of this started. Along with that, he’s experienced, but you can see there’s a thought rattling in his mind that his mouth won’t say.
“Look, whatever your decisions are for doing this—if you’re trying to prove yourself to someone or if you’re putting expectations on yourself–you can’t let that bother you. I don’t know the extent of what I’m getting myself into. This kid could be like me, or they could be like you. But however they turn out, I’m gonna do my best to make sure they live happily. And that’s all you can do: your best.”
He nods, but you don’t think it’s really getting to him.
“Maybe I can sign us up for a parent coaching class. I’m sure we’d hardly be the first unusual pair of parents a teacher has seen.”
His cheeks turn red first, then his ears. He smiles and nods again. “Yeah…yeah, I think that’s a great idea.”
“It’s a deal.”
You grab his hand and hook your pinky with his.
“Now, while we’re here, can you do me a favor and put that box in the cart?” you ask, pointing to the one you want.
“Yes, ma’am.”
As he does what you request, you bite your lip and blink slowly.
You can feel your non-expectations–the ones you still hold on Colin where he’s welcome to do as he pleases–slowly metamorphosize. There’s a flash of him bathed in the morning sunlight, smiling up at a giggling baby he’s lifting over his head.
“Anything else from this aisle?”
The image is gone in a puff of smoke, trailing in the air before disappearing completely.
You shake your head. “No, but I need to go to the next aisle and look at rocking chairs.”
- - -
Hauling everything to the cashier for check out, your items are ringed up and bagged while you reach for your wallet.
“Oh, here…I have this.”
Colin shoves his hand in his pocket, pulling out some crumpled up bills and awkwardly setting them on the counter. Just by looking at it and the grand total of the items on the counter, you know it’s not enough.
“Colin…it’s okay,” you say, pulling out your card and handing it to the cashier.
As he gathers up the money, you ask where he got it.
“I did a favor for a friend.”
“And they paid you that much money for a favor?”
Grabbing the last bill, he puts it back into his pocket. “Well, she owes me.”
You don’t have time to wonder too much about why he’s being so vague, not with the cashier asking for your signature for the payment and asking if you want to join the store’s rewards program.
With all the items bagged, you and Colin hail a taxi to go back to your apartment. Every once in a while, you consider pressing further, your suspicion a by-product of the analytical mind that got you the position you work in.
Deciding against it, you send Colin on his way and prepare for work tomorrow.
- - - - -
You yawn as you exit your apartment, pivoting back to lock the door behind you.
A flash of blue stuck on your door as it closes behind you catches your eye. When you look at it, you realize it’s a note, probably from one of your neighbors.
The words become clearer as you reach for the note, peeling it off the surface and reading it.
If you know what’s good for you, you’ll stop.
You huff. Rolling your eyes, you stuff it into your canvas bag–your newly-designated lunch bag ever since your appetite grew so that you could “eat for two.”
And prevent yourself from rage-quitting your job out of hunger-fueled anger.
Figuring it’s just the young kid on the second floor playing a prank, you head out to work.
- - -
“Bebitaaaa,” Mateo sings as he enters your cave of computer monitors.
He places a hand on your shoulder to straighten your spine.
“You need to work on your posture,” he remarks.
You scoff. “And you need to pack your own snacks and stop taking from a pregnant lady,” you speak, but are certain he couldn’t hear you over the sound of wrappers crinkling.
“Speaking of you being pregnant, I ran into Colin at the park yesterday..." he trails off. "What’s this?”
“Hmm?”
Your chair swivels as you look at him, finding the note from your door in his hand. “Bebita…where’d you find this?”
“Oh,” you exhale dismissively, “that’s nothing. I found it on my door this morning.”
“And you didn’t think to tell me?”
“Tell you about what? It’s a note. Probably from the little boy upstairs.”
Mateo’s eyes narrow. “How old is that kid?”
“I dunno,” you shrug. “Fourteen?”
“I don’t think fourteen-year-olds play tricks like this.”
“Just because you didn’t because you were a damn genius who went to college at sixteen doesn’t mean other fourteen-year-olds don’t.”
“Bebita, I don’t think you understand this. ‘If you know what’s good for you’? That’s a threat.”
“Mateo, come on, after that it says ‘you’ll stop.’ Stop what? If this is a threat, it’s a pretty empty one.”
“We’re in a dangerous line of work, did you even consider that maybe this is a guy from the mob? Or maybe one of them put the kid up to writing the note to try and hide their scent?”
You roll your eyes, “Knock it off, Mateo. There’s no way they know who I am, much less where I live–”
“You don’t know that, you don’t know what they’re capable of–”
“I know what I’m capable of, and I’m pretty sure my work is completely untraceable.”
He’s quiet for a moment, then grabs your phone from the desk. Unlocking it, he swipes through and taps before showing you the screen. It’s Colin’s contact information. His thumb hovers over the call button.
“Don’t make me do this.”
“Oh my god,” you roll your eyes again, your head lolling back in annoyance as your arms cross. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
He taps the button and he brings the phone to his ear as the call begins.
You hear Colin on the other line. “Hello?”
“Hey, Free Licks.”
“Oh, it’s you.”
You snort and Mateo’s eyes drift up in exasperation. “Yeah, it’s me. I’m calling though because Y/N found a threatening note on her door but doesn’t think it’s a big deal.”
“Wait, what?!”
“Yeah, it said, ‘if you know what’s good for you, you’ll stop.’ I think the mob knows where she lives.”
“You really think they would?” Colin’s concern comes clearly through the speaker.
“I think anything’s possible,” Mateo says pointedly, throwing you a look. “But like I said, she’s pretty confident in her ability to be untraceable.”
“But if the note was on her door…”
Mateo nods slowly, smugly. “You get it.”
“Is she there?”
“Right in front of me.”
“Can I talk to her?”
You take the phone, sticking your tongue out before you speak, “Hey Colin.”
“Why didn’t you tell me about the note when we were texting earlier?”
“Same thing I told Mateo,” you sigh, getting really irritated that you keep having to repeat yourself. “It’s not a big deal, it’s probably nothing.”
“But it was on your door.”
“I’m sure a lot of people find notes on their doors.”
“Not threatening ones!” Colin says into the receiver as Mateo nearly shouts the same thing in front of you.
“God, how do I turn off the surround sound in here?”
“Bebita, you might take this lightly, but I’m not.”
“Yeah…yeah, and neither am I!” Colin tacks on.
“A woman’s life is most endangered when she’s pregnant because that’s the time she’s most likely to get killed.”
You’re shocked Mateo would bring that up to you now, placing a hand on your lower stomach.
“I’m not taking any chances with you, especially with Riona Maher’s arrest at Logan happening earlier this week.”
You swallow, pushing your pride down as you look away from Mateo. You feel like a teenager getting lectured by her father.
“Promise me if you see anything else like this, you’ll tell me right away.”
You don’t reply immediately.
“Promise him,” Colin pleads from the phone.
“Fine, I promise. But only because I’m still pretty sure this is nothing.”
“I’ll take it,” Mateo sighs. “And Colin’s a witness.”
“Thanks for including me.”
Mateo says, “You’re welcome,” as you say goodbye and end the call.
“I’m gonna take this down to forensics and see if they can pull up anything.”
“You’d be wasting time,” you taunt as you turn back to your computer.
“And I’m driving you home tonight and picking you up in the morning.”
“Mateo–”
“Nothing you can do about it, my mind’s made up.”
He shuts the door behind him, leaving you typing away as you shake your head.
I’m the pregnant one, your mind gripes, I should be the one who overreacts to things, not them.

Giggles and breathless gasps came from the couch in 6C on which its owner made out with his newest flavor of the day. Teeth collided as lips pressed against each other and tongues swept into the other’s mouth. Hands wandered, tugging at the clothing that hadn’t been shed yet as their bodies shifted against one another.
Colin planned to get to the baseline, another hookup, another woman he would have to hide from in the morning. At least until knocking on his front door alerted him. Fully planning on ignoring it, he concentrated back on his date’s lips. His neighbors knew not to disturb him and even if, they surely would leave on their own if he didn’t respond. But the knocking persisted, getting louder and more insistent.
With a promise to be back in just a minute and lips that chased him as he stood up, he went over to check the door. Upon opening the door he was greeted with an empty hallway. At least he thought it was empty until a noise made him look down. There on his doorstep stood a carrier with a small baby in it. Looking left and right he couldn’t see anyone on the landing and even peeking down into the stairwell there was no one. Had the person who knocked on his door simply vanished?
The baby made a noise that made Colin snap his head back around. Rather alarmed he watched, fearful it would start to cry. The baby didn’t cry, it made another small noise before it yawned. He could watch its eyes fall close, the small thing asleep in mere moments.
Internally he was panicking, he didn’t know what to do with the sleeping baby on his doorstep. To make matters worse from within his apartment his hookup called his name. Without thinking much about it he grabbed the carrier and hurried into the apartment. Hurrying in this case was him tiptoeing as he didn’t dare go any faster, still too scared to disrupt the sleeping child.
“You have to go,” he told the random woman still laying on his couch. She had propped herself up on her elbows and watched him descend the five steps down from the entryway into the heart of the living space. She didn’t react at first, only raising one eyebrow but Colin didn’t pay her much attention. Carelessly he grabbed the discarded dress as it came across his path just after he took the last step. He flung the flimsy cloth in her way, not caring if it landed in her face or on her, or on the floor again.
Much more careful he handled the carrier, there weren’t many spaces in his apartment he deemed safe enough to place it. The floor didn’t seem like a good idea to him. Too much potential to trip or knock it over. Really, the only place available was his kitchen table. The carrier wobbled slightly, his hands held out towards it, but it stayed in place. In the background, he thought to hear the woman pull her clothes back on, loudly complaining about his behavior. Colin didn’t care, he looked around for his phone and when he finally found it he practically dove for it. Wildly pressing buttons he pressed it against his ear.
“I need you to come over. ASAP.” The woman he had wanted to bed not long ago complained again in the background, to which he waved his hand at her and pointed towards the door. He hadn’t had a woman leave his apartment this fast in forever.
Tumblr media
Leaving her apartment after a very unsuspecting but dire-sounding call of help from her neighbor, she witnessed an angry-looking woman storming out of said neighbor’s apartment. It confused her. What had happened that Colin shooed his booty call away? And what could it have to do with his SOS that needed her to come over? She watched the angry and tumultuous retreat of the woman, following her down the steps until she was out of sight but not out of earshot.
The next thing she noticed was the open door, prompting her to step into her neighbor's apartment, at least until she reached the steps. She didn’t want to go any further without his welcome.
“Colin?” she asked into the empty space, no trace of him anywhere. With one hand still on the doorknob, she strained her ears to listen for him.
“Why did you need me to come over so suddenly?” There was no blood and if he had injured himself his date would surely have left in a different manner. Not a moment later Colin slid into the hallway, a finger in front of his lips and loudly shushing her. “I thought Friday evenings were your hookup nights?”, she whispered, even more confused by his weird behavior.
Closing the door behind her and walking down the steps she was eye to eye with her neighbor. His attire made more questions pop up. He was only wearing jeans. No top, no shoes. Colin cringed, his nose scrunching as he rubbed his neck.
“Something uhm interrupted,” he told her, placing his hand at the small of her back and guiding her into his kitchen.
Tumblr media
“Why do you have a baby?” She broke the silence that had settled over them as they stood in front of his kitchen table. The kitchen table on which a baby carrier with a sleeping babe in it stood.
Her brows were furrowed both in confusion and worry. She couldn’t stop eyeing the babe carefully, not entirely believing its existence here. Colin’s place seemed like the last place she would expect to see a baby. He hadn’t stolen a baby, had he?
“That’s the interruption,” he told her, rubbing his neck, eyes constantly flickering towards the baby. He didn’t seem able to hold still at the moment, constantly fidgeting, shuffling his feet, and going from rubbing at his neck to combing his fingers through his hair or even so far as biting on his fingernails.
“The baby rang your doorbell?”, she asked him deadpan, making Colin groan. He shook his head.
“No. But someone did and left the baby there.”
“Who in the world would leave their baby in front of a stranger’s door? Especially up on the sixth floor?” Colin let his head hang with a loud sigh. She glanced over at him, taking in the droop of his shoulders before his movement caught her eye. He slid an envelope over the table, pushing it her way. Raising her eyebrow caused him to whine.
“Just read.” Complying she took the envelope and peeked inside. There was a note in it. Fishing it out and unfolding it, she started to read.
“Shit Colin, this is serious,” she told him, the hand with the letter slowly sinking to her side. He was leaning against his kitchen counter, arms crossed before his chest and chin resting in one palm. He didn’t look at her. She had a bad feeling about this, not only because he refused to look at her.
“I know..” He mumbled quietly, seemingly in thought. Looking back at the baby she had to swallow down a lump. It was no secret to her that he was getting around, she had seen many of his ladies leaving his apartment. He had even searched refuge in her apartment a couple of times. That’s how they first met. But Colin was smart, at least she had thought he was smart enough to keep it wrapped.
“So that’s your…” She couldn’t see it but he nodded.
“Daughter,” he finished her sentence, confirming what she had already read in the note. One of his hookups had fallen pregnant, now she wasn’t able to look after her child anymore so she had dumped it onto him. He was supposed to look after his daughter now. Raise her.
With a loud sigh, she stepped up beside him, leaning against the counter too. Their shoulders touched. Colin finally looked at her while she kept her eyes focused on the baby. She missed the way he eyed her softly and fondly, quickly replaced with guilt and a brief glimpse of sorrow that crossed his face before he too focused back on the baby.
After a while of heavy silence, he spoke again, “You’ve got to help me.” His words made her look back at him, puzzled this time.
“I have no clue how to look after a kid.” She huffed and rolled her eyes.
“You have a nephew. You look after him regularly.”
“That’s different! He is nine. I wasn’t around when he was a baby.”
“Are you asking me to raise this baby with you?” She looked at him, hoping to find denial to her question. Colin only looked at her, hopefully and quietly. Biting her bottom lip she looked away. This was a lot to ask of her. Deep down she wanted to say yes to him without even thinking about it. Something told her this would be the closest thing resembling being with him that she could probably get. A glimpse of what a shared future with Colin Shea would look like. But even if his track record read like that of a manwhore, she had fallen for the charm he possessed and the human side he showed her. The Colin that was hidden beneath the superficial want of getting into one's panties. Focusing her eyes on his ceiling she took a deep breath. She felt a sense of sadness and hurt swirl in the pit of her stomach she couldn’t understand.
“Fine.”
Colin jumped up beside her, whooping and fist pumping the air. Barely started with his celebratory dance he froze mid-movement. Both their eyes jumped towards the table, waiting with bated breath. The baby didn’t budge and they could breathe a sigh of relief. Colin drew her into his arms and pressed a friendly kiss to her head.
“You are the best!”
“Only because I don’t want you to accidentally kill the kid.”
Tumblr media
Frantic knocking and panicked phone calls at the most ungodly hours had become the norm. Now too Colin stood in front of her apartment in the early morning - or what some people would still consider the middle of the night - with his daughter in his arms. He was at his wit's end, the small child didn’t want to stop crying no matter what he had tried.
He kept knocking until the door to his neighbor's apartment opened, revealing a tired, still very sleepy woman. The breath in his throat hitched at her sleep-disheveled sight. She looked cute and had it not been for the baby crying her soul out on his arm, he would have given himself longer to take her in.
Ushering both into the apartment, she was quick to close the door. A noise complaint from some of the other tenants was the last thing they wanted. Almost immediately she took over, grabbing the small child from his arms and pressing her against her chest. One hand laid on the baby’s head, the other propped under her little butt to keep her up. Shushing and swaying did nothing, not even from her. Colin looked exhausted, she noticed. There were deep purplish circles under his eyes, his hair was a mess and he wasn’t wearing a shirt under his jacket.
“What have you tried already?” She asked. It wasn’t the first time he had ended up at her place when the crying didn’t want to cease. They had the routine down to a notch, but normally the little one wasn’t as agitated as she was now.
“Everything!” Colin’s voice was laced with desperation, wobbling even as he felt ready to cry together with the small baby. He felt helpless, not knowing what to do anymore to soothe the baby.
She remembered the first time he called her over when she hadn’t stopped crying. That one had been easy. In the following times, it had steadily become harder as Colin’s own skills had evolved. Now she feared they had reached the point in which she too couldn’t help him with expertise anymore. Thinking hard, she kept swaying and shushing the baby that cried into her neck, tiny hands painfully tightened to fists that clasped her sleepshirt in their grip.
“Have you tried music yet?” Colin stopped in his movements, hands falling from his temples to look at her with big eyes. She could see the fatigue in his eyes, the heaviness with which they drooped. Her lip twitched upward at the hopefulness with which he looked at her right now. He had played for the little baby a lot of times before and she had always seemed to like it.
“Go get your guitar and bring her nest too,” she instructed him, sending him out of the apartment. The way Colin bolted made her chuckle quietly, he nearly tripped up her stairs too. While he was gone she looked down at the baby. Her face was red, wet from tears, and screwed up in an unhappy frown.
“What a silly dad you have. Be nice to him, he is trying his best.”
The baby kept wailing, it couldn’t have been hunger or a poopy diaper that had her this unhappy. Colin had become a pro at feeding and changing her. She was getting to the age at which babies normally started teething, so maybe it was that. Sometimes babies didn’t even need a reason to cry, they just did. She surely remembered the many stories her parents told her about their experiences, which reminded her of something.
Positioning the baby so she was laying in her arms instead of pressed against her chest, she smiled down at the little girl. A soft tap on the tiny nose did make her wailing stop for a moment, but only a short one. While Colin was still away - he certainly took long - she started to softly hum a lullaby her parents had always sung for her when she was little.
Tumblr media
Coming back the first thing Colin noticed was less crying. He slowed down on the threshold and strained his ears. He could still hear wailing but it wasn’t deafeningly loud anymore. Stepping into the living room he looked around and he saw she had migrated toward her bedroom, now walking back and forth in front of her bed. The second thing he noticed was the soft singing. It amazed him, both her beautiful voice and the way she sang to his daughter who was still fussy but not screaming at the top of her lungs anymore.
He felt like an intruder standing there and watching her, even more so when she looked up and their eyes met. Her smile had him smile back at her before he followed her nod towards the bed. He placed the nest on one side of the bed before he sat down and put his guitar on his lap.
Strumming the strings he listened to the melody she sang until he felt confident enough to follow and accompany her voice. With the added acoustic of the guitar, the baby finally calmed down.
It felt almost magical to Colin how fast she calmed down, back at his apartment it had felt like she would never do so. He watched in awe as the small girl looked up at her with those round and innocent eyes, yawning and reaching her hand out towards her. He watched as the baby settled against her shoulder, eyes growing heavy as she was swayed from left to right.
When his daughter was asleep, they put her down in her nest on the bed. Colin allowed himself to relax, feeling the tiredness pull on him. With a sigh she too sank down beside him on the bed, the way her head leaned against his shoulder had him smiling. He set the guitar down, leaning it against the bedpost.
“How did you do that? How did you know it would work?” He asked her, and she shrugged.
“I didn’t.” She shimmied a little, leaning against him as he wrapped his arm around her. “When I was a baby the only thing that put me down was music. She seemed to like it whenever you played. I figured it was worth a try.”
When he looked down at her, the softness in his expression was back. He was quiet, smiling to himself. Carefully he pushed a piece of her hair behind her ear.
“Thank you,” he whispered, causing her to hum. A yawn left her mouth, eyes closing on themselves. It was still early in the morning. Too early for them to be awake. Before he knew it, they both were sinking down on the bed, asleep before their heads even hit the mattress.
Tumblr media
Waking up much later when the sun shone through the windows into the room, she noticed the quiet. Glancing over to the nest the baby was sound asleep. Waking up like this felt like a dream, one in which she could convince herself that this was her life. Her baby and her Colin, she could wake up next to every morning. If only that dream could be reality. Stretching a little, she turned her head around to the body beside her. Colin was already awake and watching her with soft eyes and a dreamy smile. It made her cheeks heat up.
“What are you staring at you weirdo?” He chuckled at the words stumbling out of her mouth.
“Just you,” his words caused her to raise an eyebrow, cheeks still hot. He kept watching her for another moment, his eyes taking in the slightly disheveled hair, the crinkles from sleep, and having her face pressed against the sheets, her eyes still a little droopy and glossy. She could practically see his mind working as he thought about his next words before he pushed himself up onto his elbow. Colin hovered above her and she looked up at him while she lay on her back.
“I was just thinking…,” he trailed off.
“Yeah?” Her prodding made him smile, a hint of embarrassment tugging at the corners of his mouth.
“How nice it would be if this was my life.”
“This is your life, Colin. Are you sure you slept? You sound like the lack of sleep is making you say crazy things,” she asked with a laugh. His words sounded so silly to her.
“Shh.” He pressed his finger on her lips to silence her. “Let me finish.” She nodded silently, his finger still on her lips.
“I was thinking how nice it would be to wake up every morning beside you.” She gulped. Her heart stammered in her chest. She kept staring up at him with bated breath.
“How nice it would be to share this all with you,” he trailed off once again, leaning down and resting his arm across her middle. His eyes mustered her face before he glanced to the side. She followed his view to the nest, “How nice it would be if she was ours.”
Her heart was in her throat; breath and words leaving her at once. His words made her head spin, the meaning behind them overwhelming her. So many things convinced in so few words. Colin’s finger had slipped off her lips when she had turned her head.
“She could be,” she whispered, eyes still focused on the small baby. She stared at the small human with longing.
In the beginning, she had wished for her to never exist, now she felt shameful to have ever considered that. The more she had helped Colin adjust to life with a baby, the more she had fallen in love with the girl, the same way she had with her father. From then on the wishes in her had changed, wishing for the small girl to have been hers.
“Yeah?” Colin gasped. She nodded. The grin that spread on his face from that made her heart leap once more. He leaned over her again, coming closer and whispering against her lips, “I’m going to kiss you now, ok?”
Instead of reacting she was the one to breach the last distance and press their lips together. The kiss ignited a firework in her stomach. Colin’s hand wandered to her waist, softly grabbing and holding her there. Her fingers clutched the front of his jacket, fabric soft under her palms.
A noise had them pull away. Simultaneously they turned their heads to the little darling that had disturbed them with her coo. She was awake, gnawing on her fist and smiling at both of them. The gummy smile made her gasp and pat Colin’s chest.
“I knew it! She is starting to teeth. Oh honey, that has to be so uncomfortable.” Rolling towards the small girl, she rubbed her stomach. For the moment she seemed content, not too bothered with the growing pains. Colin behind her chuckled, she heard and felt him shuffle until his arm slung over her middle and his head came down to rest on her shoulder.
“You meant what you said?” He asked her quietly, watching his girls. Turning back to rest on her back she looked up at him again.
“She may not be mine biologically but I could love her like my own,” glimpsing back at the baby she corrected herself, “I think I already do.”
Colin descended down on her once more, kissing her breathless this time. With his hand on her waist, he pulled her even closer to him. This time they also weren’t interrupted by the baby, instead, it was her phone.
Pulling away with a groan she looked for her phone while Colin chased her lips, trying to get another kiss from her. With a chuckle, she pushed his face from hers and wiggled up to grab her phone. While stopping her alarm she caught a glimpse of the calendar.
“Huh,” she chuckled and looked back at him, “Do you know what day it is today?” He shrugged his shoulders, both hands landing on her waist and pulling her back towards him.
“I don’t care,” he told her, leaning in but she turned her head away. His lips landed on her cheek with a loud smack, one that had her laughing and Colin whining in protest.
“It’s Father’s Day,” she told him. Her phone got thrown back onto the nightstand before she turned around and put her hands on his cheeks.
“Happy Father’s Day,” she told him and pulled his face down for another kiss.

A Little Kiss Masterlist COMING SOON
Tumblr media
When an ex leaves an unexpected surprise on Colin Shea’s doorstep, he quickly drowns in just what it is he needs to do.  Trying to be everything that his unplanned daughter needs, but he is at a loss, and has no clue on what to do.  And then there was you.  The librarian that hosted children’s hours, and just so happened to be his next door neighbor.  Even though you are resilient to help him, it’s not the baby’s fault that her father is an idiot.

"And this is my favorite place," Colin explained as he led you onto the roof top of his apartment building.
"Are you sure we're supposed to be up here?" you asked him, gesturing towards the door that said 'Closed. No Access.' on it.
"We're good," he said with a sly wink.
Looking around the roof top, you saw that for a place that was marked as no access, it was well cared for and almost like an outdoor living room.
"Do you bring women up here often?" you asked Colin. The two of you had been seeing each other for awhile, but you were well aware of his manwhore past.
"I've never brought a woman up here," he replied, honestly. "You're the first non-band member allowed up here."
"I am?" you squeaked.
"You are," he stated. He closed the gap between the two of you and cradled your face in his hands before he kissed you.
As his head tilted to the side as he slipped his tongue between your lips, a loud boom echoed around you, making you jump.
The two of you parted enough to look up and see another burst of light fill the sky.
"I know people say they see fireworks when they kiss the person they're supposed to spend the rest of their life with," he muttered. "But I never thought they actually saw fireworks."
"The person they're supposed to spend the rest of their life with?" you echoed him.
As the firework show continued, Colin turned his attention back to you. "I'm sure there's a more romantic way of saying it," he said, apologetically. "But I knew there was something different about you from the moment we met."
"I don't think there is a more romantic way," you said, gesturing to the fireworks in the sky. "And I felt it, too."
Leaning in, Colin kissed you again, pulling your body tightly against his own.
"You promise no one will stumble upon us?" you asked him breathlessly, a few minutes later.
"I can block the door just in case," he offered.
"Please," you replied.
While he grabbed a chair to block the door, you reached under your dress and pulled your panties off. You were well aware of the fact that people from other buildings could see the roof top and you weren't willing to give anyone a free show.
"We're all good now," Colin said, returning to your side.
"Let's sit down," you said, motioning to the padded bench.
"Whatever you want," Colin replied.
You waited for him to sit down before you joined him, choosing to straddle his lap instead of sitting next to him.
"Oh, hello," he said with a grin.
Leaning in, you kissed his lips then whispered in his ear, "I seem to have lost my panties."
Colin stilled below you for half a second before you felt him slip a hand under your dress to see for himself. "Fuck," he groaned as his fingers found your heated core.
"That's the goal," you said, seductively.
"But the neighbors," he muttered, concern in his voice despite the fact his hands were still under your dress.
"We'll keep everything covered," you assured him. "Undo your pants."
Colin's eyes dropped from your face to your cleavage and he licked his lips. "I'll suck you guys later," he promised your breasts, making you laugh.
"We'll appreciate that," you told him.
His fingers swirled around your sensitive numb, making you swear, before he moved them away and fumbled with the front of his pants.
"Hold on," he instructed. He waited for you to tighten your grip on the back of the bench before he raised his hips, pulling his pants down to his thighs. "Ok."
Lowering yourself back down, you felt his skin against yours. His dick wasn't fully hard yet, but he was getting there.
Leaning in, you caught his lips with your own.
Under the dress, Colin wrapped a hand around his dick and grabbed your ass with the other, pulling your body closer to his. Once your sex was pressed against his, he pulled his hand from his dick and guided your body against his, stroking his dick with your folds.
"Oh god," you moaned against his lips as the tip of his dick hit your sensitive numb. You arched your back, pushing your upper body into his and regretting the fact that you couldn't free your breasts. "Please, Colin, I need you in me."
Colin dropped his hand between your bodies and aligned his manhood to your sex. Then he slid into you, both of you moaning as he filled you.
The firework show above you muffled the sounds of your lovemaking, limiting the chance that anyone in the buildings around his knew what you were up to.
The finale hit just as you climaxed, you cries getting swallowed by the energetic booms. Colin's climax followed and the two of you remained joined together until the normal street noises came back.

Okay…..next 100 word Drabble…Colin realizing he wants to end his fuck boy ways to be with reader
Author's Note: Still have not seen this movie but i feel like @adulting-sucks has shared so much about him with me, that I know Colin Shea like he was my brother... wait ick that's gross.... anyway, here you are darling, before I go back into Blinded By the Fog and not come up for the rest of the weekend.
Warnings: discussions of Colin's towel, Colin talking to his towel.
Asks: Still taking 100 word drabble requests as part of my 100 follower celebration.
Colin hung his modesty towel up on the hook inside the coat closet for the last time. Smiling softly at it, he thinks of all the times they had together, teasing his neighbors, mostly female but he couldn't help it if a few men took notice along the way.  He never complained, nor did towel.  “I’m sorry, buddy,” he muttered softly, closing the door, closing a chapter of his life.  He was done with the endless parade of women, the meaningless sex.  He finally had what he needed, and you hadn’t fallen for the towel trick.  You were the one.

was writing an ask and tumblr deleted it ugh
but safe dad! colin shea listen,
this little girl in his apartment building always seems to hang out alone, mostly at the stairs or playing by herself. she makes friends with colin and they spend a lot of time together (when he's not hooking up with girls and actually, she's quite the helper in those situations)
she hangs out in his apartment and he's sort of been in her apartment too once but mostly bc he needed to hide.
one day they're in his couch watching the super bowl or some show eating sandwiches and colin suddenly thinks of asking her like "hey where are your parents? like do they know you're hanging out with me?"
and she's like "I doubt they care, don't even know if they know what I eat every day or what I do at school" she shrugs and continues. colin's smile fades as he realizes this kid is truly neglected. he's seen her parent maybe once, but they truly were never around. "i have a nanny..supposedly, but she doesn't do much, don't think she even comes anymore"
he becomes more of a father figure rather than just a cool old brother situation, which is weird for him because he's never had a role like that, being responsible of a child. he makes sure to check she's eating what children eat?? you know veggies, good stuff not just snacks and also water.
the second she arrives from school he's already approached the staircase to ask her how her day was and what she did that day. she's even around when the whole situation with him helping find the exes of the common neighbor.
(they maybe have an argument when she tries to play matchmaker. "you can't just- you can't just stick your nose in adults' business okay?! it's not a fairytale"
maybe some legal shit happens, her neglectful parents lose her over well,, neglect, and she goes off with him?
IDK IM IN MY FEELS AND THIS HAPPENED
OMG SORRY FRIEND i have been so busy today i promise will get to dm’s soon but— this safe!big brother!colin ordeal has me 😵‍💫 like i have already formed so many plot points for it, idk how i could commit to it tho i have so many project going on already 😭

Tumblr media
“C’mon baby, I bet we look fucking hot.”
“Of course we look hot, unlike you I don’t need a fucking reminder.” You moaned when Colin started sucking on your neck, letting him press you further into the couch as his hands roamed over your body.
“But why’d we make the tape if we’re not gonna watch it?” He nipped at your ear before bringing his face to yours, pouting slightly and giving you his puppy eyes until you laughed softly.
“You’re not gonna let this go, are you?” You growled playfully when he shook his head then let you bite at his lips, swallowing his heady sigh while he rolled his body into yours. “Fine, put it on.”
He gave you a pleased grin before grabbing the remote and turning the tv on, setting up screen share with his phone before pulling up the video you two had made a few weeks ago. You rolled your eyes when it came up on the screen, opting to watch Colin instead as he sat up over you and ran his tongue over his lips.
“Jesus, just look at you.” He purred when he curled over you again, keeping his eyes on the screen as he licked at your throat. “That tight little pussy always swallows me up so good.”
“God, I still can’t believe that’s the position you wanted to go with.” You turned your head and watched the screen as he started peppering kisses over your chest, biting your lip at the sight of you spread wide over Colin’s lap as he drove his cock into you with deep, smooth thrusts. “We do look good, though.”
“Yeah we do.” He teased his fingers under your shorts as he nuzzled at your throat, smiling when you gave him a small whine. “Need to feel you.”
“Do it.” You pushed your hips up so he could slide your shorts off, moving your own hands to push his sweats down his thighs until you felt his leaking cock smack against your hip. “Split me open, Col, I need it.”
Colin pressed his lips to your collarbone as he slid inside you, humming when he felt your throat vibrate under his lips as you whined when he buried himself to the hilt in your wet heat. You wound your fingers in his hair as he started rocking his hips into you slowly, his head tucked under your chin as he kept facing the screen.
The rhythm of his hips matched the way you two were fucking on the screen, your soft sounds mixing with the ones on the video perfectly as he started thrusting faster. He wrapped his arms around your shoulders and held you close as he could, groaning when you started clenching around him each time his hips met yours.
“That’s fucking it, could watch you take me all fucking day.” He growled when the you on the screen let out a desperate wail, her body shivering with bliss as she came all over Colin’s thick cock. “Give it to me, c’mon.”
You couldn’t deny that there was something heady about watching Colin fuck you while he was fucking you, your eyes glued to the screen as the woman there moaned with ecstasy, her body writhing as Colin’s hands dug into her tits while he mouthed at the curve of her neck. It was intense, your body so turned on just from watching yourself that it took almost nothing for Colin to pull it out of you. He purred into your neck when you fluttered around him with a soft whine, your cunt leaking slick all over him as he fucked you through it.
“Colin.” You were choking on your own pleasure as he started slamming into you, your fingers digging into his shoulders while he nipped at your throat. “Please, I need it.”
“I know, baby.” He shoved a hand between the two of you to tease your clit, his breath fanning warmth over your neck as he panted against your skin. “Just give me one more.”
Your body bowed off the couch when you came again, your pleasure matched by the screams coming from the you on the screen. Colin pressed his lips to yours and swallowed your cries with a deep groan as his hips started to falter, his thick cum spurting against your swollen walls as he sank into you.
“God, Colin.” You laughed lightly when he started pressing kisses all over your face, wrapping your body around his and sighing as you came down. “We should film ourselves more often. What do you think about some 69-ing?”

Your neighbor, Colin, finds out you’re in quarantine and tries to take care of you from afar but gives up on the “six feet apart” and decides to join you in your apartment. Suddenly quarantine didn’t sound so bad.
Oh my god, nonny. I read this prompt and the beginning of it just came to me. Like instantly. And I love you for it! This one ended up being a lot longer than I had thought it would be (even though I knew it would be long haha).

Title: Quarantine with Colin
Pairing: Colin Shea x reader
Rating: PG
Warnings: n/a
Disclaimer: This work of fiction is not to be reposted, used or translated without my permission.
Tumblr media
You knew the knock on your door before you heard Colin's voice on the side of your door.
"Neighbor," he called out in a singsong voice followed by another knock. "Neighbor. Are you still alive?"
Getting up from your computer, where you were working from home, you went to your front door and leaned against it before answering, "Yes, I'm still alive."
You heard Colin shift his weight on the other side of the door. You'd clearly caught him off guard by not opening the door.
"Do you have it then?" he asked, his voice in a conspiratorial whisper. "The corona?"
"No, thank god," you replied. "But I was exposed and even though I tested negative, my normal fall allergies mean I have symptoms and that means I have to quarantine for 10 days."
"That's bullshit," Colin stated, his fist thumping against the door in frustration. "How many more days are you under house arrest?"
You chuckled at his word choice, but answered, "Another seven days."
Colin let out a low whistle and you could just picture him shaking his head.
"Are you good?" he asked. "Do you need anything?"
"I'm good," you assured him. "I had groceries delivered after I was tested."
"Ok, but don't hesitate to call me if you need anything," he offered.
You didn't bother to remind him that you didn't have his number, you didn't imagine yourself needing his help.
"Stay positive, this will be over sooner than you think," he said cheerfully before he knocked his knuckles against the door in a goodbye.
An hour later, you were in the middle of a stretch when you heard a knock on your front door.
"Food delivery!" a disembodied voice called from the other side of the door.
Knowing you hadn't ordered anything, you got up and made your way to the door. You carefully eased it open and, after making sure no one was on the other side, looked down at the paper bag on the ground.
A throat cleared across the hall and you looked up to see Colin grinning at you from the doorway of his apartment, a matching paper bag in his hands.
"I got us lunch," he called. "From that Chinese place around the corner."
"Thank you," you replied. You picked up the bag and got ready to close your door when a paper ball sailed past you.
"My phone number," he called. "Use it. Please. Even if it's just to get Dunkin."
"Thanks, Colin," you said. Waving to him before you went back into your apartment.
Colin had always been flirty with you, but that was just the type of guy he was, the kind that flirted with everyone. But as you emptied the bag in your kitchen, you wondered if you had missed something. Wouldn't a normal neighbor in 2021 avoid you like you had the plague if you were in quarantine?
Grabbing your phone, you put Colin's number into your phone and then texted him.
Thanks for lunch. I appreciate it.
He replied with a smiley face and a thumbs up.
After eating, you put the leftovers in the fridge and then got back to work.
The afternoon went by quickly and before you knew it, it was time to sign off for the night.
A ding from your phone alerted you to a new text.
I'm thinking pizza from Johnny's for dinner. Wanna split a large with me?
You shook your head as you read Colin's text.
I really did stock up on groceries, you replied.
Just let me feed you. There's nothing else I can do to help.
Fine. But I'm paying for it.
An hour later, you heard Colin's unique knock on your door.
"Hey neighbor," he called. "Dinner is here!" He knocked again on the door, but you recognized it as his departing knock from earlier in the day.
You waited a minute before you got up and opened the door. The pizza box was waiting for you on the other side. You picked it up and then looked at Colin who was grinning from his own doorway, a slice of piece in his hand.
"Answer your phone," he called before closing his door.
Curious, you went back into your own apartment and put the pizza box on the counter just as your phone started to ring the way it did for a video chat.
Accepting the call, you propped your phone up as it connected.
"It's almost like we're in the same room," Colin said with a grin.
"Almost," you agreed as you opened the pizza box and breathed in the heavenly scent. "Johnny's has the best pizza."
"It's up there," Colin confirmed. "How was your day?"
The two of you fell into easy conversation as you ate and it began a pattern that carried into the next five days. You somehow convinced him not to buy every meal out for you, settling on just letting him buy you dinner while you were under quarantine.
You were preparing for another dinner date when Colin knocked on your door.
Going to the door, you leaned against and said, "I thought you were calling tonight?"
"I had a better idea," he replied. "You're only in quarantine for two more days and since it's the weekend, I thought, maybe you'd like some actual company."
"I don't know, Colin," you replied, hesitantly.
"I tested negative yesterday," he told you. "And I got an at home covid test kit, too. You haven't been around any one for 8 days now, but just in case you want to test yourself again."
"Are you sure though?" you asked him.
"Positive," he said.
You considered it for another second before you opened your door and stepped aside, letting Colin into your apartment.
He walked in with a backpack over one shoulder and a paper bag that no doubt contained dinner. He set his bag down on your couch and then made his way to your kitchen to empty the bag.
You watched him as he moved around your kitchen with ease, amazed that he seemed to know where everything was just from the video chats that two of you had done the last few nights. The last couple of which had lasted a couple hours after dinner had ended.
When you'd first met Colin, you'd thought he was a flirty frat boy, but now that you'd spent more time with him, albeit from a far, you knew that was only a small part of who he was. The real Colin as a caring, considerate guy who would do just about anything to make you laugh.
"Why me?" The question left your mouth before you could stop it.
Colin looked up from the food and countered, "Why not you?"
"You know what I mean, Colin," you sighed. "I'm not exactly…"
"You're exactly who you are supposed to be," he stated. "You are exactly who you appear to be. You don't play games. You don't hold back. You're unapologetically you."
"And that's a good thing?" you asked. You'd been led to believe, previously, that it wasn't a good quality.
"It's the best thing," Colin assured you. "I could tell you would be an amazing person to get to know and our chats the last few nights have only proved me right." He gave you a dazzling smile. "Maybe someday you'll let me kiss you, but only if you want to."
"And not when we're in quarantine?" you said as your heart thudded loudly in your ears.
"At least not this quarantine," he replied with a wink as he picked up a plate for you and a plate for himself.
"Let's not get quarantined again," you stated as you accepted the plate from him. "It's boring as hell."
"Might be fun if we were both in the same apartment though," he teased. "We'll give this weekend a trial run."
You nodded your head, not wanting to confess aloud that just having him with you in your apartment had already made quarantine more tolerable.

—————————————————————————-
“And, what is this!”
Colin asked with a wide ass smile as he came out of your bedroom. He’d just kinda dropped in to hang out after one of his hookup’s boyfriends apparently decided to interrupt. Since you were used to him doing that by now you didn’t say anything.
When you’d moved in next door you’d immediately found out that he had a lot of guests. You’d ended up needing to tell him to keep it down a lot. He’d poke his head out of the door while he was naked before giving you that charming ass smirk and telling you sorry. Somehow in between that time you’d built up a soft spot for him and he started using your apartment to hide from those same guests after they’d over stayed their welcomes. Yeah it was awful, but it kind of worked out.
Not like whatever this was, was a one sided deal. In exchange for using your apartment he did things that you hated doing. Like when you had something wrong with your car he took a look under the hood. Had a flat tire? Here comes Colin to the rescue. Bad date? He’d find a way to get you out of it. You liked the deal the two of you had. Besides you actually enjoyed his company and he seemed to enjoy yours too because the two of you had started hanging out a lot even.
The biggest problem you had with him is that he had the habit of being nosy as hell. Going through your things. Looking over your shoulder as you tried to draw. If it had been anyone else you probably would have clobbered them by now. You didn’t want to admit it, but you kind of had a crush.
Which is why him finding your vibrator was super mortifying. You’d asked him to grab your phone so it was kind of your fault anyway. Since you’d set them to charge near each other. You just didn’t think about it when you’d asked because you had started making him a sandwich. Yeah you know how that sounded, but homeboy seemed to always be hungry and you actually liked the way the two of you were.
“Put that back!” You protested forgetting about the sandwich as he giggled. Your downstairs neighbors were probably pissed off because you’d started chasing him around only for him to jump over your couch with no issue. Fucking himbo. “Colin!”
“What’s the magic word?” He teased, waving it in the air.
You narrowed your eyes. “How about I’ll kill you!” Then as you were trying to catch him again, you tripped over his guitar case because this douche couldn’t not leave his shit everywhere. Ugh he’s so lucky that he’s pretty.
“Shit!” He said before hurrying to your side. You whimpered as he scooped you in his arms so that he could sit with you on the couch.
“You’re such an asshole.” You sniffled.
“I know. I know. I was only teasing, Sweetie,” he cooed as he started nuzzling your face with his nose. “I’m sorry.”
Then he started placing kiss after kiss on your forehead. You could see the device in his hand still so you reached over to snatch it away.
“You little shit,” he gasped.
“It’s mine.” You laughed as you tucked it into your shirt, before standing up to try and get away from him.
“Give it back!” He protested as you tried to get up to get away from him. Before you could get very far, he grabbed you pushing you onto the couch.
“Stop!” You giggled as he started tickling you as he tried to grab it.
He’d pushed your legs up so that he could get between them. You screamed as he continued his assault while also wiggling about trying to keep your toy out of his hands.
“Why do you want it so bad?” You asked as you laid back, trying to catch your breath. “That’s gross it’s been on my vagina.”
Colin laughed. “Maybe that’s why I want it.”
“Ewwwww! Colin!”
He finally stopped as the two of you ended up staring in each other eyes for a little too long. “Gimme it back,” he said.
“No.” You giggled. “It’s mine.”
He glared down at you before finally grabbing it from under your shirt, exposing your breasts to him. Of course.
“Hey!” You protested pushing your shirt down and then reaching for it again. Instead of handing it to you his gaze seemed to focus even more before wrapping his bicep around your inner thigh.
You were totally spread out for him at his mercy. Only wearing a pair of shorts and he’d already seen your boobs. When you tried to reach for it again he used one of his hands to pin you down. “Not so funny now, huh?” He smirked.
Suddenly it felt like the air had changed. He was on top of you snuggly between your thighs. Looking down at you. Ugh why did he have to be so-
You couldn’t even finish the thought as he placed his lips on yours. His mouth working yours ever so gently. Like he was afraid you’d deny him.
When you deepened it, it was almost like you couldn’t help yourself. You’d spent the last year harboring this crush. Seeing him bring girl after girl to his apartment and fuck now that you were thinking about it, you didn’t want to become one of them.
“We should stop,” you said breaking apart from him.
He nodded and raised off of you. “Sorry... I...”
“It’s okay...” you replied as you also sat up.
“I, um, I should go,” he said, as he stood. It was like neither of you could believe what had just happened.
You nodded and swallowed as he got up to grab his guitar and left. As you went to close the door behind him, he lingered for a bit like he was about to say something before shaking his head.
“I’ll see you.”
“Yeah,” you replied. When he was gone you put your back against the door and sighed because what the fuck were you supposed to do now.
You’d promised yourself that despite liking him you would never pursue it. It wasn’t even about his “guests.” Sure he’d been a good friend to you, but would that translate into more.
It may have been childish, but in the days that followed you did best to avoid him. You weren’t even sure if he was home. There’d been a noticeable silence with no women moaning and screaming his name at all hours of the night.
You didn’t walk into your living room to him asleep on the couch as he waited for his latest booty call to leave. Thinking about him not being around was making your stomach hurt. Fuck you hadn’t meant to screw up so badly.
Your friends having noticed your slump had set up for you to go on a date with this guy. Except you didn’t want to go out with some random guy. You wanted Colin. Fuck him. This is bullshit.
Of course you saw him as you were leaving. All that avoiding and you’d run into him at the worst possible moment. “Hey...” he said with a soft smile. “You look nice.”
Ugh. He was making your heart flutter. “Thanks.”
“Going out with your girls?” He asked.
“No. It’s this stupid blind date.” You rolled your eyes.
Colin’s face fell. “Oh... well. Call me if you need anything.” He smiled weakly. “Oh yeah did you still need me to take your car to the shop?”
“No I did already. Gotta pick it up Monday.” You smiled weakly.
“Okay...” he trailed off with a frown on his face. Like he wanted to say something more, but didn’t know what to say. “I’ll see you later?”
“Yeah. See ya.” You shot him this tiny smile. You started to go down the stairs, kind of hating how how sad you felt to walk away from him.
“Wait!” He suddenly said.
“Yeah?” You turned back to him a little quickly.
Colin stood there. Like he was trying to get his thoughts together before answering. “I... um... nothing. It’s not important. Call me if... you need me. Okay?”
You nodded and that was it. You waited for him to stop you again, but obviously he wasn’t going to as you walked out of the building.
Your entire date all you could think about was him. Sure it was a little rude, but you’d let him consume you. Your date was bleh anyway. You hate when your friends set you up.
As he rambled on about himself, you stabbed at your food with your fork. Not only was this how it’s been this entire time, but the food wasn’t even good. How long was he gonna keep going on and on about his fantasy football team. Sure Colin would go on and on about it, but it was so weird to have someone else do it. Also Colin didn’t interrupt you every time you opened your mouth unless it was to make you laugh.
Finally it was over and you wanted to go home and maybe get postmates or something. Before you could get in the car he’d stood in front of you so you were leaning against it. Damn this was awkward.
“It’s crazy. When Simone showed me your picture, I was a little apprehensive, but you actually are really pretty for a chubby girl,” he said.
And there it is.
Isn’t it funny how this shit goes. You don’t know if people thought that kind of thing was a compliment, but it really really really really wasn’t and now all you wanted to do was punch him.
He even tried to fucking kiss you after. “Why are you doing that duck thing?” He asked. “Put your lips like this.”
You turned your head. Fuck you should have never let them talk you into a date when your car was in the shop. How is it that they hate Colin, but this guy was fine? “Actually can you take me home? I think I left the stove on.” You crinkled your nose.
“You don’t have to lie to get me to go home with you,” he said.
Oh hell no. “Actually,” you started, crinkling your nose because ew, “I don’t have sex on the first date.”
“Oh,” he replied making a face. “Then what do you do on the first date.”
Yeah. Don’t get into a car alone with this man. You will be cussing your friend out for this. After you had food. “Uh, actually I think I’m gonna get an Uber.”
Thank fucking god he’d finally left you alone. You thought about calling Colin to come pick you up because sure he’d helped you out on a bunch of these things there was something about it that felt humiliating. Pretty for a chubby girl? Really dude. Fucking jerk. As if that’s even a real compliment.
And your friends would rather you be with that. Over a guy that actually cared. Not that you were even sure that Colin liked you. One kiss doesn’t mean anything with. He kissed a lot of girls. What made you any more special.
It wasn’t even about the other girls. If it had been you would have stopped being like that with him a long time ago. You didn’t care. You just missed the way the two of you were.
When you’d finally made it to your door you were already crying. Fat tears falling down your cheeks but since you didn’t wanna sound like you were on some Haunting of Hill House shit as you walked up the stairs you tried to keep yourself quiet, with your fist to your mouth.
You almost made it to your door, too. When some girl walked out of Colin’s apartment looking pissed. Then him noticing you before he could close it.
“Y/N? Fuck. It’s not what it looks like.”
You rolled your eyes. “I don’t care,” you said through the tears.
“Shit what happened?” He asked.
You didn’t say anything as you took out your key. Just wanting to get inside so you could be sad in peace. You’d rather him not pile onto the shittiness.
“Hey,” he said, putting his hand on your shoulder. “Talk to me. Did he do something?”
You closed your eyes tightly because you knew if you looked into his you’d spill everything. You couldn’t not talk to him. He made it impossible. It was so annoying.
Colin breathed. “Look, I know I kissed you and I know that you’ve been avoiding me since. I’ve just been trying to give you space. I didn’t want to freak you out, but I miss you. That’s why I kicked that girl out. She wasn’t worth it when I’m trying to be... that doesn’t matter. I at least wanna be like old times.”
You sniffled, finally opening your eyes. Ugh there it goes. “It was so bad, Colin.” Ah fuck him you couldn’t hold it in anymore.
He sighed before pulling you into his arms. “Here let’s go inside. Okay? I’ll making you some tea.” He swiped his lips across your forehead.
You nodded but didn’t let go of him. He was just too warm. And his muscles were all tight around you and it felt good. Besides his chest was really good to cry into.
“It’s okay, Honey. I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere.”
You nodded. “You promise?”
“Yeah,” he replied before pulling your chin up with his fingers and kissing your nose. “Always.”
He made your tea while you showered and did your routine. You’d also spent a lot of time brushing your teeth because you’d felt gross after he kissed you. By the time you got back he was waiting for you already on the couch. Looking so inviting in your hoodie.
“Hey, that’s mine,” you said with a pout.
He narrowed his eyes. “This is my hoodie. You stole it from me.”
“You shouldn’t have left it here then.” You whined.
Colin chuckled before holding his arms out. “Get over here.”
You decided to get over it for now as you went to sit beside him, curling into his side. You reached forward to grab the cup of tea he had waiting for you. “Thank you, Colin,” you said.
“Always,” he replied. “Now tell me what happened.”
You rolled your eyes again because you didn’t even want to talk about it anymore, but with him there was no letting to. You sighed. “Do we have to?” You asked.
“Not taking no for an answer.”
You took a deep sigh before taking a sip of your tea. “Okay, so, he spent all night talking to me about his fantasy football team.”
He cringed. “Only I’m allowed to do that.”
“Exactly! And then he told me that I’m pretty for a chubby girl,” you said rolling your eyes.
“What?” He frowned.
“Yeah. I think he was trying to neg me.”
Colin sighed. “That doesn’t make it okay. I wish you would have called me.”
“Yeah. Maybe. Didn’t wanna bother you.”
“Hey. Stop it,” he said. “You can always calls me. I don’t care how far I am. I’ll hop on a plane if I have to.”
“Stop,” your voice shook as you spoke. “You don’t have to do the whole knight in shining armor thing.”
“I prefer Prince Charming.” He shrugged.
You rolled your eyes, as you sniffled. “Whatever.”
Colin chuckled before placing more kisses on your head. “Don’t you ‘whatever’ me. You should have called me. He didn’t do anything else did he?”
“He kissed me and it caught my off guard and he asked why I was doing a duck thing with my mouth!”
He frowned. “What the hell. And you let him take you home?”
“No. I got to freaked so I called can Uber.”
He nodded. “Okay.” He sighed. “Next time you have to call me.”
“I don’t even want there to be a next time. I’m so over dating.” You pouted, crossing your arms.
“Well, then, how about you don’t. Instead it’ll just be us?”
“Yeah as if you can go even three days without sex. You’re an addict.”
Colin’s jaw dropped. “I’ll have you know I haven’t had sex since before you started avoiding me.”
“What about that girl?”
“I told you it didn’t feel right,” he answered. “I was only with her because I got mad and that wasn’t fair.”
“Mad about what?”
“That you were going on a date with some other guy,” he confessed with a sigh. “I don’t want you to go on dates with other guys. I only want you to go on dates with me.”
So there it was. You’d thought about this moment so many times before. About what it would feel like for Colin to like you back. Honestly it felt pretty good.
You looked up at him and you don’t think you’ve ever seen him so nervous. “You sure you want that?”
“I’ve been doing boyfriend things for you for a year and I miss it.” True. “Might as well make it official.”
“Colin, I... look if you’re serious about this then you need to promise that you’re committed because I know you and I know how you get.”
He took a deep breath. “I know, but I know that I want you. I’ve never been like this with anyone. I love you, Y/N.”
“You’re so annoying,” you said, turning so he couldn’t see that he’d made you tear up as you wiped away each one that slid down your cheek.
All he did was kiss the top of your head. “Say it back.”
You shook your head. “Go away.”
He laughed before pushing you onto your back so he could crawl on top of you. “Don’t fuck with me. Say it back.”
“Colin!” You giggled.
His nose touches yours as he glared down at you. Lips getting ever so close to yours. “Say it back.”
“Fine,” you replied dramatically, even if you couldn’t help the smile that was on your face. “I love you, too.”
“Yeah?” He whispered, pecking your lips ever so soft.
“Mhm,” you hummed putting your hands in his hair. When the kiss deepened you let yourself feel him. Didn’t even think about pulling away this time. Pushed whatever thoughts to the back of your mind. None of it mattered anymore.
You fisted his shirt in your hand as his tongue started going against hers. There was something so yummy about him kissing you. You can’t believe that Colin was really your boyfriend.
He did that thing again where he wrapped his bicep around your upper thigh so he could get situated between your legs. This time you didn’t even think to pull away from him. “Colin,” you moaned into his mouth.
“That’s it, Baby,” he whispered pulling away so he could take off his hoodie.
You couldn’t help yourself as you grabbed it. “Mine.”
“Are you- no!” He tried to grab it out of your hands. He’s so lucky he’s so muscly because he balled it up and threw it across the room. “I want my hoodie back.”
“But, I wear it when I masturbate.” You pouted.
“Really?” He asked with this dopey smile spreading across his face.
You snorted. “No. I do think about you when I do it though.”
“Yeah? It’s okay I’ve accidentally said your name during sex.”
Your jaw dropped before smacking his arm. “Colin!”
He laughed. “That’s why that girl left so quick earlier. She kissed me, but I was thinking about you.”
“You’re such a jerk.”
“Yeah, but it’s cuz I’m crazy about you.” He leaned down to kiss your neck.
You let out a moan at the feeling. “Unless you plan on taking care of me I suggest you stop doing that.”
“Oh, I plan on spending all night taking care of you,” he whispered.
“Can you get me food first. I’m starving.”
Colin chuckled. “How about we order in and until it gets here I make you cum with my mouth like I’ve been wanting to.”
You smiled lazily. “I like that idea.”
Obviously he kept his word. He had you pick whatever you wanted before laying you back to tug your shorts off. Being exposed to him like this was making you feel a little shy, but you didn’t have the chance to think about it once his long was licking your clit.
Your hands went to his hair as he bent you up so your legs were over his shoulders as he put his hands on the back of your thighs. “Got the prettiest pussy,” he said before going back to feasting on you.
“Colin,” you whimpered. “Fuck.”
He was making your stomach quiver. Putting his hands under your ass getting a grip so he could really taste you. Until you started trying to move your hips against his face. Damn he looked so pretty like this. Fuck he was gonna make you cum.
Seriously looking into his eyes as he was between your brown thighs was so sinful. He was eating you out like you were the best meal ever. Making you cry and moan for him. It was literally everything you’d been wanting from him.
“I’m cumming!” You squeaked, throwing your head back. “Fuck me, Colin. Please,” you whined as he kept going.
“Here go get on the bed. I’d prefer our first time not being on the couch.” He raised back up so he could kiss you softly.
You nodded as he got off of you so you could stand on your shaky legs. He chuckled, pulling you into a hug. You wrapped you arms around his waist, needing to feel close to him.
“I love you,” he whispered.
“I love you, too.”
He grabbed your hand as he led you to your room. Stopping every so often during the short walk to kiss you. You don’t blame him for not being able to help himself. Now that the two of you were honest about your feelings you weren’t sure you’d be able to get away from his embrace anytime soon.
You kneeled on the bed in front of him and he pulled you into his arms to kiss you again. You started to undo his pants, getting on your stomach as his cock finally popped out. Your jaw dropped as you looked at it and then up at him. Sure you always expected for there to be a reason he was getting girls back to back. Yeah he has a pretty face, but there was definitely a bigger reason and now that you were faced with it, it was like every thought left your brain.
Wrapping your hand around it, you brought the head to your tongue. Moaning around him at the taste. “Fuck, you gotta big dick.”
“Were you not expecting it?” He asked.
“I mean I was, but fuck. I don’t even know if you’re gonna fit.”
“Oh I’ll make it fit,” he said, hissing as you placed open mouthed kisses in it. “Fuck, Baby. Stop. I wanna be inside you.”
“Then get inside me.” You pouted up at him. “But I wanna suck it later.” You got back on your knees and he smacked your butt.
He chuckled before taking his shirt off. When his pants were finally thrown wherever, he moved to remove your own top. You’d been so preoccupied looking at him you didn’t even realize you even still had it on. “Always wanted to see these perfect tits,” he groaned before diving in.
When he finally laid you down, his didn’t stop licking and sucking them. He was going so hard you were pretty sure he was trying to leave a mark on purpose. You were so just sensitive that you couldn’t stop yourself from moaning even louder.
“Colin,” you whimpered.
Finally he got on top of you. Lining himself up with your core. “No turning back now, Baby,” he said as he started to push into you.
You cried out as his thickness stretched you out. He pressed his lips to yours again as he got a little deeper, but then pulled away to hiss, “Fuck, you’re fucking tight.”
You threw your head back. “Harder.” Despite the slight burn you felt from how thick he was all you wanted was more. He felt so goddamn good.
“I don’t wanna hurt you,” he replied finally tearing himself away from your breasts.
“I don’t care fuck me harder,” you whimpered. “Please? I need it.” You moved your hips. “Colin, I need it.”
“Yeah?” He asked before planting his palms on either side of your head as he started to rock in and out of you. “Fuck. You’re so wet.” He groaned. “Fuck I shouldn’t have waited this long to do this.”
You wrapped your legs around his waist and moaned as he started picking up pace. Making you feel so nice and full of him. It was honestly everything you’d hoped. Maybe even better.
He reached between the two of you to rub your clit. Not only was he stuffing your pussy, but the added stimulation was only bringing you closer to your peak. “I’m cumming!” You cried.
As you came your muscles contracted, you pushed him out and he took the chance to turn you over. Without any warning he pushed back in. Since you were still in the midst of an orgasm you were so sensitive. His pelvis smacking into your ass with each thrust.
“Fuck me, Daddy,” you cried, moving back against him. Soaking pussy still tightening around him.
“What’d you call me, Babe?” He asked, placing a kiss on the back of your shoulder.
“You’re my daddy,” you sobbed into your blankets.
Colin groaned. “Fuck yeah I’m your daddy, Baby. Don’t you ever fucking forget that.” He reached down so he could wrap a hand around your neck. “I’ve never fucked a girl without a condom before. So glad you’re the first. Pussy’s so damn good.”
“Please don’t stop,” you begged. Feeling the next orgasm right there. “I need your dick.”
“I’m not gonna stop until you cum again,” he replied. “I know you wanna cum again.”
You nodded as you let out gasps of air with each movement. “I am. It’s right there. Fucking harder.”
He smacked your ass and you threw your head back. “Fucking cum for me.”
You nodded, feeling like you were tearing up again. God you wanted it so damn bad. “Colin, Colin, Colin,” you chanted as your eyes rolled to the back of your head.
He didn’t let up. Shoving himself inside of you as he felt his own peak creeping up to him. He just wanted to make sure you were taken care of before he could finally let go because once you did he couldn’t stop himself. Filling you up with his hot cum. Not stopping as he fucked it into you.
While you slumped over, he laid beside you before pulling you into his arms. “Goddamn,” he breathed. “We waited way to long to do that.” You nodded, chest heaving up and down as you laid your head on his shoulder.
As the two of you were getting all relaxed and basking in that post-sex glow a knock on your door made for jump.
“Shit, I forgot we ordered food.” He laughed before kissing your temple.
